Speaker 1: Welcome to a spoiler review. We're going to be talking about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume three, so this is where we get into all the details about the movie. Listen to this if you watched the movie and want to know all the spoilers, or you just like having movies ruined for you. Kelsey, you are here this week. You didn't give your initial thoughts on the movie, so just based on an emotional level, what did this movie do for you?

Speaker 1: So destroyed you too. I feel like it did everybody. I've only met one person who did not enjoy this movie. Do you feel like this movie should have come with some kind of a warning to kids or animal lovers?

Speaker 2: Absolutely? I mean I'm Philly. I might kid at Hart, but I am an animal lover. I cry at tech talks all the time. I actually related to this. I laid in bed the other night after you fell asleep, and I somehow have ended up. I don't know how my algorithm has brought me to the side of tech talk where it is showing me pets crossing the Rainbow Bridge. Absolutely not. I just sob And then I've been getting like videos of all these shelters that are rescuing animals and being like this dog has been here six hundred and eighty one days and no one loves it. And I'm like, oh, this is sad. But then I see the comments and like they find the dog at home. But I don't know why. That's what side of TikTok I'm on. I had to tell TikTok that I don't want to see the hashtag crossing the Rainbow bridge. So I'm just like laying awake at midnight the other night it's sobbing about these dogs.

Speaker 1: And that is also what this movie did to a lot of people. Sobbing, yeah, because it's about you learned about Rocky Raccoon and all the things he had to go through. And I felt like, for me, this movie started out really emotional.

Speaker 2: Poor little Rocket, like Cardy said, thinking about it again.

Speaker 1: Before we get to that when it starts off and he's already hurt, and he spends the entire movie hurt and then learning about his story through the flashbacks, and each one gets sadder and sadder as they go along. But I don't think anything has gutted me emotionally in a Marvel movie. The hearing baby Rockets saying hurts hoots like and then you look over to me at that point in the movie and we're like, I didn't expect this movie to make you as emotional as it did.

Speaker 2: I saw people that like saw it, like on opening night or preview, and they're like, this movie made me feel all the emotions, and I'm like, how is it that emotional? And then I saw it. I wish it was on this emotional.

Speaker 1: I got a DM from a listeners saying they had to leave the theater an hour we're into the movie because they are such a big animal lover that they couldn't take it.

Speaker 1: I get it's hard, but I also think it shows what animals go through and the hard things that sometimes we don't really take into consideration with the treatment of animals. So I think it is shedding light on it and showing that animals deserve to be taken care of and not be treated poorly in any case. So I think it had to show people and hit people on that emotional level of like, you know.

Speaker 1: I think so a little bit. I mean I did see Peter praising the movie for making that point, so it does hit you so hard, but it's also shedding light on that, so I thought that was important. So I feel like in order for a movie to take you on a low, it does bring you back up. But if you're not prepared for that, I could see how it could be a hard watch. I don't know, the fact that all of his friends died was a pretty hard low. I didn't really feel like I came back up from that one. So I was expecting more people to die in this movie.

Speaker 2: I was expecting people, not the little sad animals in the cages. I thought they were all going to get out.

Speaker 1: Yeah, that hits you, but I would I think there were different points throughout the entire movie where I thought, oh, this character is about to go. I thought Drax was gonna die, and even going into this movie with Dave Batista saying he's stepping away from the role as Drax, I thought that meant his character died. There is a point whenever they go and break into that headquarters where he gets shot pretty brutally. Yeah, like two big shots to his body, and I thought that was the end of Drags, But he ended up surviving. All the Guardians ended.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I find it really hard to take superhero deaths. It and Marvel movies have been pretty good about not killing off main characters, and when they do, it's because that actor usually doesn't want to play them anymore. I've also got into the space of watching superhero movies and TV shows that are very brutal, like The Boys and I just watched Invincible for the first time, and I think it's something about seeing a superhero go down that messaged with me on a different level because as a kid, they're invincible. They never got hurt. They'd be back the next episode of the next movie and they'd be fine.

Speaker 1: Yeah, So I think seeing like a character die that you love would have been really hard. So I'm glad nobody in the main cast died and they kind of ended a on a good note. They all split apart, but it ended on a good note. But yes, seeing all of Rock and Friends be shot as brutally as it was awful.

Speaker 2: And just like coming up with their name and they just would like lay on their little cages and become friends or chiefs. Oh or it just got me and Lilah like that was her name, right, yeah, Lilah. I was just so sad.

Speaker 1: I think more so than that part, the scene that really got me emotionally was whenever Rocket was about to die. He was so close to death and then he goes and he sees them all and he's they tell them that, you know, they exploring the big open sky. It was at that point that I felt it. I think the last time I felt that was probably probably when Tony Stark died. But it was such a beautiful moment, and then you think Rocket is gonna die and then he does it. Whenever she puts her hand out like not right now, I was like, oh, he's gonna live. And then he came back. But that was such a great scene.

Speaker 2: It was I'm just so sad thinking about all of it again, like Rocket's little voice.

Speaker 1: Oh but the baby Rocket boys played by a different actor. Yeah, that was great. It does go on a big emotional level throughout the entire movie. You're kind of all over the place because it has a lot of big fun action that Guardian to the Galaxy is known for, but it was a lot more somber, a lot more just straight ahead, this is all of our character's final chapter. So the more comedic part was probably what I was anticipating and waiting for, was the F bomb that going into it, it was the Marvel movie with the first F bomb. They've danced around it before.

Speaker 2: See, and I didn't know there was going to be an F bomb. And it also didn't feel that surprising to me because A we watch a lot of things, yeah f BOMs, and honestly I have a sailor's mouths.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess just the fact that it hasn't happened in a Marvel movie. It was more comedic than I was expecting.

Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be like, at a very action filled point of somebody saying it out of anger, but instead it was Keeter Quilt just frustrated in saying the F bomb. It kind of reminded me of like that one SpongeBob episode where they're cussing the entire time. It felt a little bit like that, So I thought it was funny. I thought it was going to be a little bit more like jarring and shocking, but I thought they did it pretty well.

Speaker 2: Yeah, I forget that that's like a thing like if it's a Peachy thirteen movie, like, you get one F bomb? Is that what the rule is?

Speaker 1: Yeah, you get one F bomb and a handful of s words.

Speaker 1: My other favorite scene in the movie was that final fight scene when they're all going back in to save the day and they're not. They have the option to get off the ship because it's exploding and save themselves, but they want to go back and save all the kids, and then they want to go back and save all the animals. But that scene where they go into that tunnel, right when they open that door and it's almost one continuous shot, had some of the best action that I'd seen in a Marvel movie. Looked amazing.

Speaker 2: I loved all of the animals getting rescued. That was also comedic timing too, because it was just like so many different animals. Yeah, it's a little bit like Noah's Arc. It was kind of like it was Ark in Space.

Speaker 1: Or like Acepinterro whenever he saves all the animals and he doesn't want to save the bat and he runs out holding the bat. I haven't seen as That's what it kind of reminded me of. But It also had that really heroic moment whenever Rocket gets to face the high Evolutionary and you find out that the face has been wearing is just a mask and it was actually Rocket that tourist face up after he killed all his friends haha, looked brutal, and he ends up defeating him through the use of gravity, which I have gone back now and watch Guardians one and two and realize that you got traces of rocket story throughout the entire franchise, about his past, about him being genetically altered, about him being tested on. I guess I just never really picked up on that the entire time, And when James Gunn made The Guardians of the Galaxy, his plan the entire time was to end it like this, with Rocket and it being his story. So if you go back and watch those movies like I have now, you see kind of all the pieces there if you want to put him together, and you see all these glimmers of rocket story of what he went through. I think Yondu is the first person to kind of pick up on that, telling him that hey, I know who you are, I know what you are feeling inside, versus how you act and how you treat people. And this movie is the exploration of that, of what Rocket has been through and how he is mentally tormented so much that that's the reason he is the way he is. So I think seeing him go back and fight that high evolutionary and beat him and defeed him, and then also make and get a point to save all the animals after he realizes that he is actually a raccoon, because before, every time anybody would call him a raccoon, he would get mad. But in the movie, when he saw like that was his name next to all the baby raccoons that said the species is raccoon, it kind of set in within the first time of like, well, crap, I am what people have been calling me this entire time.

Speaker 1: They're very cute. All the animals are cute, even the ones that were genetically altered like thiefs, and they all had these mechanical arms.

Speaker 1: Thought that was the perfect ending, saving all the animals. I also thought Peter Quill was going to die in that moment, and he's done that before where he goes back and tries to save his music playing device. This time it was soon he went back to try to get it. He got it, and then that moment where he stopped and wasn't moving forward anymore and his face started expanding. I thought he was done.

Speaker 1: I really liked his role in this movie of him trying to get Goamora back. I guess it was a little cringe worthy at times. How he was just like trying so hard to reminder that they used to be in love more so than he did even an endgame.

Speaker 1: I did like how the relationship kind of shifted between Gomora and Nebula. Of how in this movie is the really mean one and the one who doesn't want to be a part of the team, and Nebula is the one trying to get them all together and helping out the most.

Speaker 1: Yeah, she's low key became one of my favorite guardians. I didn't really care for in the first one because she was still evil right and in the second one, but in this one, she really became like a part of the family and felt like, Oh, I really like Nebula.

My other take, as your millennial female co host is it's so funny to me to see James Gunn's brother Sean Gunn in this because he's Kirk and Gilmore Girls, Oh yeah, I'm Gilmore Girls. He's Kirk. He is the weirdest, quirkiest, strangest character in the whole series, just like on like a different planet weird, And to see him in this like, I can't reconcile the two, But it's so funny for me because I just see him as Kirk.

Speaker 1: Yeah. I liked his relationship with Cosmo in the movie.

Speaker 1: It was funny. And then yeah, his character trying to learn how to use the arrow yea beyond you did. But yeah, Cosmo holding together the ships at the end, I found, I guess a good doggy. Yeah, I guess. I wasn't expecting him to be as big of a part in this movie. And then you get to the finale, after you find out the star Lord is gonna be okay, he gets back on the ship he's all good, Rocket is safe, Rocket is alive, nobody has died, and then they ended with having that big dance party, and then you get to hear Groot not just say I am Groot, but he says.

Speaker 2: Guys, of you guys. If you watched it of Florence Welch watching Guardians in theater and getting to see her song out on Storina is like the ends scene.

Speaker 1: I think that's what these movies have done for me. But after seeing this movie and rewatching all the Guardians movies, I went and listened to the soundtrack to this movie, which it has kind of a different feel to it to match the somber tone. It starts with that acoustic version of Crete by Radiohead. And I don't really like seventies music at all, Like seventies rock never really got into it. But all of these songs that felt were picked for a reason, and they all fit so perfectly that I could see myself Carries only listening to some of these songs. But still I don't think it was the best soundtrack out of all of them. I still think Part one has the best soundtrack, but I think it's just because this movie is a little bit more emotional that the soundtrack isn't as fun.

Speaker 2: Gonna say what Guardians does really well on what they've been known for. It's like the incorporation of music. Am I'm making it a soundtrack? Like throughout the movie they do that really well. Still like they've kept that up.

Speaker 1: I'm curious to see where the movies go after this. The end credit scenes didn't really tease anything, but instead they said that star Lord will return. The thing that kind of ruined it for me going into it is I saw Chris Pratt in an interview saying that he would still play star Lord with James Gunn's blessings. I was like, Oh, I mean, he's probably not gonna die, but he's gonna return, probably in maybe another Avengers movie. But it doesn't seem like they'll all come back as a team. What I would like to see is a solo Rocket movie and I guess it would have to be a prequel, but.

Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there's a period of time where this where these flashbacks end, and it's right before he meets Groot. So I think a good movie could be him first meeting Groot and before Guardians won would be a fun prequel.

Speaker 1: Yeah, ra I think that would be a great maybe more like a Disney Plus series. I think if it were a movie, it would probably be better after the events and Guardians three.

Speaker 2: But just say I am Grouth the whole time, and we have to have subtitles or discrout use his newfound voice at the end, because I am Group doesn't always mean the same thing. It's true, I am Group means seventeen different things. But I still stand by saying that I think Guardians is the best trilogy in the MCU, one of the best trilogies of all time, and I want to watch this movie again. I would watch it again. I am also just always in awe of how Zoe's Aldana has managed to get into two of the highest grossing like film franchises like itsane. It is so impressive to me, I mean Avatar. She's done Guardians, which sin leads to Avengers, like she has done some of what do we look up? She's done like three of the five highest grossing films, like three of five films that have hit a billion.

Speaker 2: It's insane, and I feel like that like didn't pay off for her until later in her career. And I just find that so inspiring and cool and badass.
