Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio Our two.

00:00:05
Speaker 2: On this Wednesday, people fired up over Bill Belichick. Did Bill Belichick actually have a good day yesterday? I know he didn't get into the Hall of Fame, should have gotten into the Hall of Fame, but it feels like the outcry and the reminders of just how great Bill Belichick was in his coaching career. We'll talk to two of the voters coming up South pal Antonio a little bit later on, and we'll check in with Armando Salgero, a senior NFL writer for OutKick dot Com and he has been covering the NFL since nineteen ninety. And also I think that Armando presented the case for Bill Belichick in front of the committee, so he'll join us.

00:00:43
Speaker 3: Coming up.

00:00:44
Speaker 2: Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. Whole question for hour one, we'll clean up that seat, and what do we have for hour two as well? Yeah, we got two of them up there right now.

00:00:56
Speaker 4: We have Bill Belichick is not a first ballot home Hall of Famer because this one's from Paul Spygate slash to fleet Gate, how he treated the media or Bill Pollian got payback.

00:01:10
Speaker 2: Well, we don't know for sure if Bill Pollion, the former general manager who's in the Hall of Fame, voted for Bill Belichick, because Bill Pollion said, I'm not one hundred percent sure if I voted for Bill.

00:01:23
Speaker 4: We're gonna have to tell the audience because he's winning the pole question right now about forty percent of the vote.

00:01:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, we also have up there. This one's from Marvin More.

00:01:31
Speaker 4: Unbelievable Bill Belichick not a first ballot Hall of Famer or Shador Sanders being a pro bowler. Right now, Bill Belichick is barely edging out Shador.

00:01:41
Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, the whole Shador thing that's made for TV. I get it. I'd have him there as a participant. You know, there's no designation there, like we're gonna know on his resume. And I feel bad for the kid because what's he do if he turns it down? You know what we say, Oh, you think you're too good for the Pro Bowl. So it was a lose lose proposition. It felt like for Shador Sanders. You know, people are still floating. Man, what about Dion is the head coach of the Browns.

00:02:11
Speaker 3: It's not gonna happen.

00:02:13
Speaker 2: Deon's got to get healthy, take care of what is going on in Colorado. But man, when you get some of these hosts, these analysts, who they raise the flag, they carry the flag for Dion coach and the Browns. Yeah, remember it was all coach the Cowboys. We don't have the package deal.

00:02:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, we love nothing more than the coach quarterback package deal.

00:02:33
Speaker 2: It's like third most popular topic ever. What are you talking about? Yeah, Packagel alrighty eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show Hall of Fame voter Armando Salgero and senior NFL writer for OutKick dot com. How did we get to this point, Armando?

00:02:54
Speaker 5: Well, obviously, Bill Belichick has been away from the game for a year, so he becomes eligible for consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a coach. He went through the Coach Committee and beat out such people as.

00:03:13
Speaker 6: Holmgren and others.

00:03:15
Speaker 5: I presented him there and he got through to the main selection committee, which consists of fifty folks media, former NFL players and coaches. Tony Dungee is on the committee. Dan Fouts is on the committee. Bill Pollian obviously is on the committee, and we took a vote and we found out I found out yesterday that he hadn't made it. He found out last Friday that he hadn't made it.

00:03:49
Speaker 2: And I'm shocked you laughed when you mentioned Bill Pollion.

00:03:54
Speaker 3: Why.

00:03:56
Speaker 6: I can't tell you.

00:03:57
Speaker 5: I know that Bill had has gone forward and backward on.

00:04:05
Speaker 6: Whether he voted for Coach Belichick or not. I think that speaks for yourself.

00:04:11
Speaker 7: No, if you you're you're not sure that you did, you are one hundred percent sure that you did, and then you're you don't remember.

00:04:26
Speaker 2: Was there any talk in the room while you're presenting the case for Bill Belichick that would lead you to believe that we were going to have this end result.

00:04:35
Speaker 5: So the way it works, Dan is I present and then there's the you know, discussion slash debate. And in that discussion slash debate, there was definitely of signs that this was going to be somewhat of an uphill battle. There were there was one voter who said, out right, I'm not voting for him and because of Spygate, and you know, he gets his opinion, and there was others who brought up the one year thing, just the fact that he might come back and be a coach again in the NFL after being selected.

00:05:15
Speaker 6: To the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That is not an.

00:05:18
Speaker 5: Issue for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and that was said in the meeting, So I assume that that was not the thing. I think that Spygate was the factor that we're sitting here today. It's the reason that Bill Belichick is not a first ballot Hall of Fame.

00:05:39
Speaker 2: Can I be fair to the story the situation in Belichick where I look at his career after Spygate. Could I look at success after Spygate and maybe split this up that if you have something under suspicion as we move into the second part of his career, he's a Hall of Famer with what he did after that.

00:06:03
Speaker 6: One hundred percent.

00:06:04
Speaker 5: In fact, in my rebuttal, because you get the presenter gets a presentation, everybody you know discusses, and then I.

00:06:13
Speaker 6: Get the last word on Bill Belichick.

00:06:15
Speaker 5: And in my rebuttal, I pointed out that Bill Belichick had a higher winning percentage after Spygate than before. Bill Belichick went to six conference championships, a record. After Spygate, Bill Belichick won three Super Bowls after Spygate. Spygate happened on September seventh, two thousand and seven. On September eighth, two thousand and seven, the New England Patriots hired a compliance officer. And I've been told that that compliance officer, who worked for the team through twoenty twenty five, her sole purpose, she's a lawyer, was to make sure that the Patriots completed with any every NFL rule to make sure that this didn't repeat. And obviously we didn't have another spygate. After two thousand and seven, you.

00:07:11
Speaker 2: Get a letter from Tom Brady and I don't know if you even thought you were going to have to use the letter from Tom Brady? But how did you get the letter? And then you present that to the voters by reading.

00:07:28
Speaker 5: It correct And oh no, I knew that I was going to use it, because if you're going to come to a gunfight, you bring all of your ammunition. And that was part of it. When Tom Brady, who, let's be honest and transparent, there were rumors years ago that their relationship wasn't great, that there was, you know, a little bit of a separation there.

00:07:55
Speaker 6: Tom Brady gave.

00:07:57
Speaker 5: The most full throated endorsement of Bill Belichick that I've ever seen or read.

00:08:05
Speaker 6: Or been associated with.

00:08:07
Speaker 5: So I thought that that would carry weight in the room, and I read the whole thing to the other selectors.

00:08:14
Speaker 2: Do we know the number of voters who didn't vote for Belichick? I know that you had to have at least eleven? Was it exactly eleven?

00:08:25
Speaker 6: I don't know the number. The Hall of Fame would know, and they're not telling.

00:08:32
Speaker 5: So there's that we don't know as selectors who did and who did not because the selection process is done electronically and nobody is sharing their ballot obviously.

00:08:46
Speaker 6: So there's only guesses based on what was said in the room.

00:08:51
Speaker 2: Should your vote be made public?

00:08:56
Speaker 6: Well?

00:08:57
Speaker 5: So I wrote a column at OutKick dot com last night saying that at the minimum, the people, the minority of selectors who declined to vote for Bill Belichick, they should speak up and say why, because a majority of the selectors did vote for Bill Belichick. And now we're all under that umbrella of you embarrassment. We're all we're like beagles that just went to the vet wearing this cone of embarrassment around our neck. We didn't vote for Bill Belichick, and I don't want to be a Beagle wearing a cone of embarrassment. I voted for Bill Belichick, and I know a majority did. Let the minority who didn't explain themselves if they.

00:09:49
Speaker 2: Wish, okay, then what happens to Tom Brady when he's eligible?

00:09:53
Speaker 5: That's an interesting question because if you're going to ding Bill Belichick for Spygay, are you going to ding Tom Brady for Deflategate?

00:10:06
Speaker 2: Have you been in contact with Brady since this announcement?

00:10:10
Speaker 3: I have not?

00:10:11
Speaker 2: Okay, Armando, thank you, We appreciate you joining us, all right, Dan Pleasure. Armando Salgero covering the NFL since nineteen ninety. Hall of Fame voter, I don't know how many didn't vote for Bill. They needed eleven votes for this for him not to be elected, you had to get eighty percent, but I don't know if it was just eleven.

00:10:37
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:10:37
Speaker 2: You know, if you start the presentation and you get one voter saying, hey, I don't care what you say, I'm holding him accountable for Spygate, okay, and then all of a sudden, like you would think if you get a letter from Tom Brady, you know, talking about Bill Belichick, glowingly. That's one of those where you go, I don't even think I'm not gonna need this, right. I don't need a letter from Tom for Bill Belichick. It feels like Armando got a heads up that, hey, you better bring your guns here. It's not a foregone conclusion that Bill was going to go into the Hall of Fame. But if you're gonna ding him, I got a ding Brady. I mean, be consistent. I got a ding him for Deflategate, even though it was silly and it came down to him lying to the commissioner. I don't think it helped him win games. And the amazing part. And I bring this up because it just seems hypocritical. I had Aaron Rodgers on after that and I talked to him about PSI and he goes, I actually over inflate the football. Nobody cared, he said, I did it for a year, no one cared, So you're manipulating the football. I wanted it over inflated, Brady underinflated. But the crime was lying to the commissioner.

00:12:04
Speaker 3: That was it, all right?

00:12:06
Speaker 2: A couple of phone calls here. Dominique Foxworth, he is a former NFL player, was head of the Player Association for a long time and contributor to ESPN. David in Ohio, Morning, David.

00:12:22
Speaker 8: Heyy morning Dan.

00:12:23
Speaker 9: I got an idea.

00:12:25
Speaker 8: Of how Bell Belichick and swing the voters.

00:12:28
Speaker 2: Just send his girlfriend there with muncibles and pop darts and he can bribe him and maybe get him in there. So thank you, thank you, David, Thank you, Shawn and Oregon, Shawn, welcome back.

00:12:41
Speaker 10: Hey, You're You're right on topic there with the line to the commissioner. Look what happened to Pete Rose for Lyne to the commissioner? And I say that, you know, the greatest coach doesn't screw up an undefeated year. You know, when he lost Eli Manning and the Giants, you know, there ain't nobody thought that they were going to lose that game. And then he lost to Eli Manning and the Giants twice.

00:13:03
Speaker 2: Brother, so you think that they lost to the Giants. That's why he's not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

00:13:09
Speaker 3: All right?

00:13:10
Speaker 2: Thank you, se Donnie and Indiana, Hi Donnie, Hey Dan, how you doing great?

00:13:18
Speaker 3: Great? Awesome.

00:13:21
Speaker 11: I've been a cold stand for a long time, and I think that Bill Bolichick should get in first ballot after all those battles between Belichick and Dungee, I don't see how he shouldn't.

00:13:35
Speaker 2: Be Well, I'm with you, and you being a Colts fan, admirable of you to look at the greatness of Belichick, and I don't factor in if I was covering the Patriots and he wasn't nice to me. Okay, he's not nice to anybody. Bob Knight wasn't nice to anybody, Bill Parcells, Billy Martin. I mean I ran into all of these coaches.

00:14:02
Speaker 3: Pat Riley wasn't nice.

00:14:05
Speaker 2: But you, I mean, you got to be a big boy and say, okay, is he's still great at what he does? And the answer is yes. I'm not gonna You can't be petty and say, well he went nice to me. And I know writers have talked about this, certain guys accommodating you like them, you like them a little bit more consciously, subconsciously. I gotta look at the bottom line. You're great, You're a Hall of famer, and Bill Belichick's a Hall of famer. If you want to say before you vote, hey, you know the NFL is gonna bar Bill from first year eligibility with that punishment okay, and at least I know the rules going into this, like with Pete Rose, but it almost felt like, hey, by the way, you know that told uh Spygate.

00:14:59
Speaker 3: You know to keep that in mind.

00:15:01
Speaker 2: Oh, but if you need eleven, at least eleven to keep Bill out, uh Joe and Nashville. Hi Joe, what's on your mind?

00:15:12
Speaker 12: Hey?

00:15:13
Speaker 6: Dan?

00:15:13
Speaker 8: Five seven one sixty nine. I'm calling him because the main thing I'm thinking about with the whole Belichick is that if you think back to Super Bowl twenty five when he was the decoordinator for the Giants, his game plan for that game is in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, so the Hall of Fame, his game, his game plan is good enough for the Hall of Fame, and he's not. The other thing I wanted to make real.

00:15:35
Speaker 2: Well, Pete Rose has probably more artifacts in the Baseball Hall of Fame than maybe anybody, and he wasn't Hall of Fame worthy to the to the Baseball I.

00:15:45
Speaker 8: Love I did love the that the caller brought up Pete Rose, but like you said, it was known from the beginning that Pete Rose lied, so we knew that he wasn't eligible. If you wanted to do that with Belichick because he lied to the commission of them, like you said, push his eligibility back year or five years or whatever you have to do. And the other thing is we're just so happy, you know, all let's Patriots fans now that we're sixty minutes from the super Bowl, because I mean, think about it, well, we hired Balichick. We weren't thrilled.

00:16:12
Speaker 9: About that high.

00:16:13
Speaker 8: I mean, we gave up draft choices. But thankfully and Jonathan and Robert Kraft we trust when he let Purcelves go, we would devastate him. And you know what, he proved to be right on every single turn.

00:16:26
Speaker 2: We lost you, Joe, bad connection there. And Robert Kraft has done a wonderful job. Hope he gets into the Hall of Fame as well. Rightfully, So all right, we'll take a break. Dominic Foxworth will join us to get his thoughts on that big announcement. Also, I wanted to talk about what I thought I was going to be talking about today. The Steelers new head coach, the Bills new head coach, and these other coaching vacancies. Anybody coaching in the Super Bowl who might be the next head coach for one of these teams take a break back.

00:16:56
Speaker 1: After this, be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

00:17:07
Speaker 13: Hey, it's Ben, host of The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller. Would mean a lot to have you join us on our weekly auditory journey. You're asking, what in God's name is the Fifth Hour? Listen to The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:17:36
Speaker 2: There was news yesterday as Joe Brady got promoted. He's now the head coach in Buffalo. Mike McCarthy you took over officially with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then you had the Belichick news that dwarfed all of that. Dominique Foxworth, host of The Dominique Foxworth Show, ESPN NFL analyst, joining us on the program. Hey g here. Bill Belichick's not getting in the Hall of Fame.

00:18:01
Speaker 14: I did realize how lucky the Bills are today that we're not dissecting the decision.

00:18:06
Speaker 3: That they made to.

00:18:08
Speaker 14: Essentially promote everybody except for the coach and sending them back in. And also, I guess the Steelers are dodging a little bit of hell today. Also, but yeah, Bill Belichick didn't get in, and people are mad. Jimmy Johnson called everybody a holes and that started telling. They started telling on everyone else cheef scandals. Did you see that tweet that all I did not? Oh, I've been looking up and read it to you.

00:18:31
Speaker 2: Why didn't Bill Belichick get in first time? First ballot?

00:18:36
Speaker 3: I mean, none of the explanations seem like good.

00:18:39
Speaker 14: The only good explanation is one that hasn't really been presented yet is he's still kind of a professional coach. And like, I don't have any opposition to putting guys in while they're still active, but that's traditionally not something you can do. You have to be one year removed or for players, five years removed from having played. He's coaching college now, which like he's getting paid a lot of money to run a program. So I guess you could make the argument that he and he might come back to the NFL. And we we've seen like Mike Shanahan's a coach who I think is like the father of most of modern NFL offenses, and he still hasn't gotten in yet, in part I think because they want to wait until coaches are fully retired. But that's not the excuse that's been brought up. It's this spygate stuff and it's explanations for how convoluted the process is. Those are really bad excuses for a guy who won six Super Bowls as a head coach, two as an assistant coach and kind of like ushered in the generation of like flexible age rushers.

00:19:39
Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's baffling.

00:19:42
Speaker 2: Okay, Which this mean for Tom Brady?

00:19:45
Speaker 3: Nothing?

00:19:46
Speaker 14: No, like Bill Belichick has just actively been his or essentially been his fullback.

00:19:52
Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna do that to Tom Brady.

00:19:53
Speaker 14: And I also think Tom Brady has done a better job with relationships than Bill Belichick. And that's one of the things that we haven't focused and this very much that a lot of the voting is about relationships, and different teams will promote different guys, and if you like somebody, you're going to be more prone to vote for him. Like, I think that Tom Brady has done an excellent job of promoting those relationships.

00:20:16
Speaker 3: He's a part.

00:20:17
Speaker 14: Owner of a team, in the lead broadcaster on one of the biggest partners. Like, I don't think Tom Brady's gonna have nearly as much of a as much trouble getting into the Hall of Fame as it seems like Bill Belichick is.

00:20:29
Speaker 2: Okay, why isn't Robert crafton the Hall of Fame?

00:20:31
Speaker 3: Yeah?

00:20:32
Speaker 14: Again, I think it's about relationships, and it's the game of Thrones. Behind the scenes is sometimes more interesting, as I mean, Don Van Nude and Seth Wickersham has made careers out of exposing some of that stuff that is so much more interesting in some cases than what's actually happening on the field.

00:20:49
Speaker 3: And I think that speaks to it.

00:20:51
Speaker 14: Older guys, I think you get a little bit more sympathy, the more likely to put you in. But I think often there are people and we've heard about some of the rivalries that Robert Craft has had in the league and some of the issues and that might bleed into We saw that documentary that he put out that might bleed into some of the opinion of Bill Belichick. I think all this stuff matters, but people, I mean, it is nice to have all of America agree on election, right, it's kind of cool. Remember what that was like, Yeah, long time ago, it was wonderful.

00:21:21
Speaker 2: Joe Brady got promoted. Yeah, I said last hour, I thought this was uninspiring. If you're gonna change, and you're gonna change by firing your head coach, I don't know if you can keep your GM and promote your offenship coordinator without sort of being the same team next year.

00:21:39
Speaker 3: Your thoughts, Yeah, I like to It's often easy just to be like that was dumb.

00:21:45
Speaker 14: I like to extend some like assumed strategy and intelligence to the owners and people who run the teams. Terry Pagoula when he did that press conference and made it really hard to continue to assume some sort of strategy and then intelligence. But I think if you without them having said this, if you're trying to look for a logical reason why they did this, it's because of Liam Cohen, Like that's the reason. Honestly, It's like you have a good coach on your staff with which the Bucks had and you let him leave, and it's something that's happened a bunch of time.

00:22:17
Speaker 3: The Ravens are a good example of that.

00:22:19
Speaker 14: Also, Mike McDonald was on the staff, you let him leave, he goes to become a head coach and maybe one of the best coaches in the league at Seattle, and then you fire your coach then next year, Like, that's the only thing that possibly makes sense that they were seeing Joe Brady as someone who was gaining a lot of attention and sooner or later they were going to lose to some other organization. And while they did present a bunch of other reasons for why they made the decision that they made, if you look at the collection of all the decisions that they made and where they ended up, that's the only thing that makes sense. Either that or they really think Sean mcdemmert was so bad of a coach he's the one loan piece that is holding them back, which is absurd when you also listen to the owner say that the only reason why they lost is because of bad call. So yeah, only then it makes sense is they loved Joe Brady and they didn't want to lose him to some other team.

00:23:10
Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy going back home, emotional. This isn't a typical hire for the Steelers, but he does help. He develops quarterbacks, and he can elevate an offense that's been, you know, a bottom feeder for almost a decade. Now, I know, we look at his age. They like to get that thirty five year old defensive coordinator. Your thoughts on Mike McCarthy, Yeah, I.

00:23:34
Speaker 14: Mean I think there's some incongruent thoughts in that one also, where it's like, we hired a coach who we believe is good at developing quarterbacks, but this coach seems to want a fully developed quarterback to return, which Aaron Rodgers is so like, that's the part that doesn't make sense, is if and maybe he's just saying that because he has to say it, But if this team is serious about turning the page at some point, I think they're going to have to move on from this band aid situation that they've been doing for the quarterback position. They're gonna have to start using draft picks and signing free agents. I don't think Mike McCarty is a bad hire. Obviously, it's a kind of an uninspired hire, but what it suggests to me is something that Mike Tomla actually did surprise them with this.

00:24:18
Speaker 3: It felt like to me like there's no way that he could be there.

00:24:21
Speaker 14: For as long as he has and not have hinted towards the ownership that this might be my last year. But it seems like the way they reacted to it, he was really shocked.

00:24:30
Speaker 2: Talking to a Dominic Foxworth of The Mothership former NFL Cornerback and next Thursday, February fifth, from six to seven thirty Pacific, the Dominic Foxworth in Fringe Live at the strand look at You.

00:24:45
Speaker 14: Yeah, having fun out in San Francisco for a live pod. Mina Kimes will be there, Marcus Spears and Kevin Clark. All the proceeds they're gonna go to the Special Olympics, So please do foxfurth Podlive dot com, get on buy some tickets.

00:25:01
Speaker 2: The Denver Broncos firing coaches yesterday kind of quietly because we're still trying to digest the fourth and one call, and now Sean comes out and says, hey, I would have gone for it. I would have called a better play, paraphrasing I mean, you won fourteen games and now You're like, they had an excuse with Bonix. They probably win that game and you'd be in the super Bowl. But like, are these jobs that tenuous? It's like, no, we lost, Uh, you're going yeay.

00:25:35
Speaker 14: Champayne is a powerful guy and he's never been shy about making these type of decisions.

00:25:40
Speaker 3: I think that.

00:25:41
Speaker 14: There's one way to look at this where you're like, hey, we can always get better.

00:25:44
Speaker 3: That's commendable that there are going to.

00:25:46
Speaker 14: Be aggressive because you look back at their season, as good as their season was, as a lot of single score games, and while you could walk away and be and feel good at scapegoating the injury to your quarterback in the web there, I think that whatever happened, obviously there's a longer track record. I don't think the result of the season is why they made that decision. And then you can look at the Jets too, which also did some cheerious things that at some point.

00:26:11
Speaker 2: Someone's got any coaches aside from Aaron Glenn.

00:26:15
Speaker 14: I again talk about strategy, and I said at the beginning, this is like I like to extend the assumption that these owners are at least reasonably intelligent and making some sort of plan. It's so hard to put together the last decade of decisions by the Jets and find like a through line of a strategy or some belief, Like they had a bad season, they gave up on it midway through, and then somehow held every coach but the head coach accountable for a season that they obviously gave up on. Like, I don't know what's happening in that building, So it's hard for me to project, but I know it's ugly. And if I was a fan, I mean, I guess they probably lost.

00:26:54
Speaker 3: Hope a long time ago. I'd be pretty pissed.

00:26:56
Speaker 2: Cleveland needs to coach, Vegas needs a coach, Arizona needs coach.

00:27:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, you want to.

00:27:02
Speaker 2: Fill those voyage is somebody coaching in the Super Bowl who might get one or two of those jobs?

00:27:09
Speaker 14: Yeah, it feels like all of those jobs, right. That's the only way that it feels like.

00:27:15
Speaker 11: That.

00:27:16
Speaker 14: Otherwise they've been getting rejected by people that they want, right, and that makes it look even worse.

00:27:23
Speaker 3: These jobs are few and far between.

00:27:25
Speaker 14: For people not to take that opportunity is surprising to me. And we saw Mike m Mike mcdiane, No, McDaniel, Yeah, McDaniel from Miami. We saw him go to the Chargers, which like that opportunity to seem great. But my assumption is he could have gotten one of these other jobs and maybe he didn't want it, but given how he dresses, I feel like he's going Miami to La next.

00:27:47
Speaker 3: At some point, man gotta go to Vegas, right Like, I feel like.

00:27:50
Speaker 14: There's the only other place that Miami, La Vegas, only other place that he can go.

00:27:56
Speaker 2: Does anybody want the Browns job? I mean, it feels like they know they might just shay to Jim Schwartz, We're gonna hire you because we don't want to be rejected anymore.

00:28:05
Speaker 14: That's a bad way to go about hiring a coach, but it might turn It might work out. He's a guy with experience in that team obviously respects the defense has been great all the way through, but you can expect if they take him off of the defense and make him a head coach, is possible the defense could make take a step back.

00:28:22
Speaker 3: The thing about the Browns job is.

00:28:26
Speaker 14: On paper, when you look at the way, like one of the reasons why I think the Ravens' job is attractive because you have a front office that you know consistently will give you quality talent. The Browns have done a pretty good job of building up this roster. I think you can point to the major decision, which was an ownership decision to bring in Deshaun Watson, as a terrible one. But like other than that, they've done above average in their drafts and decision making, so it's not that bad of a job. The organization isn't as poorly run as the results seem to suggest from what I understand. But it's still the Browns and there's still the benefit of having a low bar, but also the challenge of there's really no culture to speak of, and people will turn on you immediately because they assume that it's the same old Browns. There's no like faith in the same way that you would have with the Steelers. No one has that for the Browns.

00:29:13
Speaker 3: What about Arizona, Yeah.

00:29:16
Speaker 14: That one is another situation where the complaint that I've heard from candidates about the Arizona situation is commitment from the ownership. And that's always a big question, is what the ownership is going to do for an organization or it's going to do for a coach to support them, And that's something that's been hanging over that organization, so someone will take that job. There there are some jobs that aren't A level jobs, and it feels like the Bengals fall into that category, despite the fact that they have a quarterback. And the Cardinals, one of the oldest franchises in football, also feel like one of those organizations that doesn't feel.

00:29:51
Speaker 3: Like an A level job.

00:29:52
Speaker 2: I was just wondering about this shouldn't may be crazy and off topic here, but Sam Matthew Stafford decides she's going to retire the Rams. You got two first round picks. Do you reach out to the Bengals?

00:30:09
Speaker 3: What do you think?

00:30:11
Speaker 14: Yeah, reach out to the Bengals and offer those picks for their quarterback. Yeah, it's gonna take more than that.

00:30:25
Speaker 2: That's the starter. That's the starter.

00:30:27
Speaker 14: Okay, okay, okay, okay, Yeah, you can throw it at him, but I'm hanging up the phone. If the Bengals and you reach out for Joe Burrow for that, like I think, for Joe Burrow to move, it's gonna require him to force his way out, which is not a very un football it's a very NBA style behavior. You rarely see football players force their way out, especially quarterbacks. But I can't imagine that there's enough compensation where it would not be received the way that Luca Daunton's trade was received. If anyone moves on from their top level quarterback who's still in their prime when quarterbacks are playing for twenty year that no Burrow has been injured a lot. But moving on from your quarterback, you will lose everybody's because you are then acquiring a bunch of draft picks in hopes that you can find someone nearly as good as Joe Burrow.

00:31:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, but you get him on a rookie deal that it felt like there was a disconnect between him and front office. Uh not happy. Uh So, I don't know, I just yeah, just throwing it at him.

00:31:25
Speaker 3: It's the dream.

00:31:26
Speaker 14: It's the dream like herschel Walker trade situation, where you can find you can set yourself up for a dynasty if you move on from a super talented player at the right time. Like, I get the idea, but it better work.

00:31:38
Speaker 2: Dominic, thank you for joining us, no problem, appreciate you, Dan. That's Dominic Foxworth. You can see him in person. That'll be next Thursday in San Francisco. Along with Mina comes Marcus Spears, Kevin Clark, and it's Dominic Foxworth and Friends Live at the strand go do Foxworth pod live dot com?

00:31:59
Speaker 3: Is that crazy?

00:31:59
Speaker 11: Though?

00:32:00
Speaker 2: The Joe Burrow thing? You you got two first round picks. Now, Stafford could come back, but if he decides to retire, I don't know. And it felt like there was something going on with Joe not happy, Yes, Marvin.

00:32:17
Speaker 12: But the Bengals going to ask for somebody like pookin the coop with Well.

00:32:21
Speaker 2: They got their receivers, what they.

00:32:24
Speaker 12: Need, what's one more great receiver?

00:32:26
Speaker 3: That's true?

00:32:27
Speaker 2: Uh, two first round picks and pookin the coop for Joe Burrow.

00:32:35
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:32:36
Speaker 2: It came to me just because I thought, you know, what what happens if Stafford retires, You're gonna draft somebody. You're gonna sign somebody. What about trading for somebody?

00:32:47
Speaker 15: Yeah, Paul, it's interesting because otherwise you have to start a search for a new franchise quarterback. Yeah, with a good team already in.

00:32:53
Speaker 2: Place, yes, a team ready to win already. Uh, well, they could always bring in Jared Stidham. God, yeah, that's not fact.

00:33:05
Speaker 12: That was a terrible little shovel pass thing.

00:33:06
Speaker 3: Man, are you off stiddy? I guess so.

00:33:10
Speaker 12: I'm not putting it all on him. But we gave them seven points and didn't take three. That's a ten point swing.

00:33:15
Speaker 3: Do the math.

00:33:16
Speaker 12: That's why we're not in the super Bowl.

00:33:17
Speaker 2: All right, we'll take break. It's definitely Joe Lombardies. Yeah, it's somebody's fault, not the head coach. I love that. I love a little too much attention on that one call.

00:33:26
Speaker 4: I want to fire a bunch of people just to make sure everybody knows it wasn't my fault.

00:33:30
Speaker 2: Nobody's talking about that call today. All these coaches are getting fired, and the Jets fired. Everybody is Aaron Glenn's job save like it would be so jetsy and that they would get around to firing him and all these other candidates are gone. Take a break. More phone calls coming up. Speaker 2: Wendy in Miami, Good morning, Wendy, what's on your mind today?

00:34:10
Speaker 8: Good morning, Dan.

00:34:11
Speaker 3: Good morning.

00:34:14
Speaker 8: On the bill.

00:34:16
Speaker 2: Oh we got a bad connection there. We've been having a few of those, Marvin. Is it on our end?

00:34:23
Speaker 12: It seems random because there's sometimes when the calls are really clear.

00:34:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Paul, are we playing?

00:34:28
Speaker 3: Who are we blaming?

00:34:31
Speaker 2: Definitely not us?

00:34:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, can't be us.

00:34:33
Speaker 2: I'm gonna take this Sean Payton approach. People just have the same issue with their phone. It couldn't be ours. Yeah, it's not ours. Michael in la Hey, Mike, what's on your mind?

00:34:44
Speaker 9: Are good morning, Dan? You want to take my call?

00:34:46
Speaker 3: Yep?

00:34:48
Speaker 9: I just want to weigh on on the Hall of Fame voting. For me, it's just another example of why s horse riders shouldn't be the gatekeepers. And I mean that in all sports, major League Baseball, especially h football, all of them, because I mean, maybe it made sense one hundred years ago when he didn't have internet television and so you needed some people who could, you know, who had seen most of the players, But it sounds like it should be in the player's hands and and people who know the game, like Tom Brady had a great point about, you know, like JSI keeps his shoulders level, so you know, he doesn't tip off his running plays. Well, like what sports writer knows that.

00:35:28
Speaker 2: Well, I'm okay with you know, former players or coaches, but I mean they have a bias as well. It's it's tricky.

00:35:36
Speaker 3: You need to get a balance there.

00:35:38
Speaker 2: And sports writers aren't as uh powerful as they once were. Columnists were. You know, they they ruled the they ruled the land. Had to have a great columnist. Now newspapers are going away. That doesn't mean you don't have great writing. But you know, broadcasters, we fought hard to get. We always sat up in the rafters. If I went to the Boston Celtics game, you know, in NBA finals in the eighties, I was way up top. Writers were always down below. We're both covering the same game, but you kind of fight to get a little bit more of the TV side of this. We were just known as talking hairdooes. And I remember when I was in New York and I got a real harsh dose of that of Hey, I'm Mike Lupica, I'm Dick Young, Dave Anderson, like all these legendary writers in columnists and you're now They didn't say this to me, Well, Dick Young might have You're just a talking hairdude. So you're you know, you want to get a balance of broadcasters, analyst, former players, former coaches, But you got to be careful because deep down, whether it's consciously or subconsciously, people have a bias.

00:36:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.

00:36:55
Speaker 4: I don't know if if even all eleven people that came out and that they voted against Bill Belichick because he was involved in two of the biggest his team was involved in two of the biggest cheating scandals in NFL history. I don't know that anybody would have a problem with that. But the fact that no one is coming forward who voted against him speaks to the idea that maybe there's another motivation and that's actually super lame, like that's what makes you a coward. Then if you're going to say, well, he cheated, so yeah, I'm going to ding him for the one year, I think most people would understand that. But you're not saying it, so now you're a coward.

00:37:29
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:37:29
Speaker 2: I don't have a problem if you didn't want to vote for him. I do want to know why you didn't, because does this is it applicable to Tom Brady he was involved in Spygate to a certain degree, But he was involved. He was Deflategate. Team got punished, he got suspended. I mean, this was a big deal, and that's cheating, or at least bet is cheating. So that's where I'm trying to understand, like what is so egregious here? And really, if you look at Spygate, Spygate's silly too.

00:38:04
Speaker 3: Hey you can.

00:38:05
Speaker 2: Film the other team, but you can't film there that angle, and that that was spygate in a nutshell.

00:38:13
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:38:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, even if you want to, you could try to remove Bill Belichick from deflate Gate, but he was the one up there within like a day or two, doing the ideal gas law and explaining how these how footballs deflate on their own, which is true, by the way. I mean, yeah, look, the NFL still didn't they studied those balls the entire next season and never release the results. Well why was that they were doing exactly a study to see if they did deflate that way and then they never released the results. I think that we know why. But he was right out in front and center of that whole scandal two, So you kind of have to ding him for that, especially if he's a head coach who controls every single aspect there.

00:38:53
Speaker 2: Sure, Hey, just tell me, just be transparent, Be transparent when it comes to the huge astro's when they're up for the Hall of Fame, when jose L Tuve, just tell me. Then at least we know and if you had, you know, maybe it was an asterisk by Belichick's name by certain voters going in we're not going to vote for him. Just let us know, just you know, be fair to the situation, because as you're saying, is there something else involved in this, you know, the Belichick situation that we're not being told. I was told yesterday, reiterated this morning that maybe some voters thought there's no guarantee that Belichick is not coming back to the NFL. And I said, he's not coming back to the NFL. He said, I'm just telling you that the vibe of is he going to coach again in the NFL?

00:39:48
Speaker 3: And I said, okay.

00:39:50
Speaker 2: So I don't know if they can even agree on why they don't agree that he's a Hall of Famer. So yeah, PAULI. Multiple reports.

00:40:03
Speaker 15: The Cleveland Browns are hiring former Ravens offensive cordator Todd Munkin as our next head.

00:40:09
Speaker 2: Oh Kirk Kurbstreet is gonna be thrilled?

00:40:12
Speaker 3: Is he happy? Right?

00:40:13
Speaker 2: No, Todd Munkin, He could dial up some plays, man, Todd Munkin, He is gonna turn Shadoor Sanders into a Pro Bowl. Oh no, he's already a Pro Bowl.

00:40:30
Speaker 3: Cord, continue with the excellence.

00:40:33
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I'm gonna make a Pro Bowl starter out of Shador Sanders. All right, Todd Munkin felt like whenever Todd Munkin was coaching, Herbie was letting you know Todd Munkin was coaching, he can dial up some plays like Spags in Kansas City. Nobody dials up plays like Spags, doesn't Kansas City? One hour to go on this Wednesday. Sal pal Antonio joins us, coming up,
