Episode 120 - 1st (ish) War of Armageddon - The Battle for Armageddon

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we jump into the events of the 1st war of Armageddon (sort of). We open with a dive into what Armageddon really is and where it actually came from (damn it ad-mech). Then we talk about the Grey Knights, doing a bit deeper dive into them and their function in the imperium. Then we get to the warp and Angron doing a YOLO into the galaxy. After all that we get to the meat and potatoes of the conflict, the planetary guard, the Space Wolves, and now the Grey Knights. Then onto the final battle itself and the breaking of the black blade! We then close out on the Inquisition’s decision post battle and how that is not going to go over well in part 2 of our cast.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Fort Gailor Cats with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Today we'll be covering the first warm of Armageddon, which is actually the fourth or fifth war there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But just this is the first thing to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: On the giant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, I do want to open with an important thing as we get into more of our Megan.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a black library book called The Emperor's Gift.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what a lot of this is going to come out of.
[SPEAKER_00]: Go read that or listen to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the better books they have.
[SPEAKER_00]: Although I didn't love the first half.
[SPEAKER_00]: Second half, I really liked, but the first half, it was fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was, I mean, it's, they sent a plan of things, I like it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was falling asleep in the first, the whole, like, first half of it, and then I think I actually did skip, like, oh my god, three chapters, so like, I just, I stopped caring, and then I got good.
[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway,
[SPEAKER_00]: 40K Lordcast, weekly show in the lore of the Warhammer 40K Universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m.
[SPEAKER_00]: Please continue to follow and comment the comments we do help us out.
[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are doing a rock and roll job.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing great and I couldn't be happier with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you like the cast and you want some more of Brad and I, click the link to our YouTube page where you have the 40K Lordcast, there you have some of our earlier stuff converted over to imagery, our Q&A sessions and our other show, the history of 40K.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually also
[SPEAKER_00]: podcasting platforms in general, but that's there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then with a bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: In the show notes, there's also a link to our Patreon.
[SPEAKER_00]: Massive, thank you to everyone's contributed.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually using that Patreon right now to explore some expansion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you guys for contributing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It allows us to do some more stuff in YouTube, some more stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, even other podcasting areas, and just kind of expand out in general to offer more to you.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, thanks so much for doing that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Our Patreon is $4.99 a month.
[SPEAKER_00]: That gets you this show and the history of $40K ad free.
[SPEAKER_00]: or if you want to swim in a lake with the best name, if you're an immature adult, it's 16.81 soul, so you can listen to our cast while eating poya of the brasa and looking at Lake Titi Kaka, because my god the food in Peru is so good.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the best food in the planet, but that's also because their country has all of the climates.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the Amazon jungle, the Pacific coast, the Andy's mountains, and really, really, really fertile land from glacial runoff, and the cuisine's nuts.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the good show, Kousa, Lomo, Satato, and of course, Poyolabrasa, which I've actually built my own rotisserie in my house, so I can make Poyolabrasa with Wakayania sauce.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I look forward to much you try to figure out how I know what all that crap is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lastly, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a really great place, interactive Brad and I, it's also a great place to interact around this in general.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do know, actually quite a few of our discord members on a personal level, because some of that met them at tournaments and at events.
[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of them have raved about how great the discord is for getting into the game and learning about, hey, I have some kind of new level questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to put on something like a Reddit, our discord's perfect for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's also a really fun place for more veteran players, just come in there, talk about literature, talk about things you like, talk about the history of 40K that you like.
[SPEAKER_00]: Come on in.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an incredible place and I cannot thank you all enough for joining it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you haven't joined it, jump on in.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is also completely free.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like all discord should be.
[SPEAKER_00]: I look forward to the negative comment from random people.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, with that, let's get to Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, first and foremost, what is Armageddon?
[SPEAKER_00]: And Armageddon is complicated.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a planet in the upper right sector of the galaxy in the northeast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope, upper right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was one of my favorite comments in discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was just a, yes, you can figure out at time of what I record this versus time of release, but they've now announced a total war coming for Warhammer 40.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and someone says, do you think the map will be northeast southwest or up left down right?
[SPEAKER_00]: and I don't think I don't, unfortunately, know it's way it'll be.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Holy Terra is in the sole system.
[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, Holy Terra isn't in the segmentum sole.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where Armageddon sits.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the smallest space of all the segmentums.
[SPEAKER_00]: but it's also the most defended and the most active.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just the most defended, it's the most active.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just constantly stuff going on here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, because there are bigger worlds in other segment of the side, outside of segment of the sword.
[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but like any good empire, the vast majority, the function of the empire sits in these areas.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got forge worlds, nightmares, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_00]: Segmentum solar is effectively the backbone of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: although the 500 rolls of ultramar are kind of moving that way a little bit and current lore will see where it goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I bring all that up is that any conflict that occurs on a world within this segment of solar is a direct threat to the imperium, because it's so close to soul and can disrupt all the, you know, munition movements, et cetera, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a very, it's a staging point.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's around the stage from here and they go, they're places and it's heavily defended because they want to make sure that you can always get whatever you need, guns, people, everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if you need help caps, you got them.
[SPEAKER_01]: We go from there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this has been, it's also a great surprise because of the fact that it's one of the first reconquered when we had the great crusade in the thing, and they had the histories.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a big deal to make sure that this is always safe.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also kind of like a beacon for the Empire, the Imperium says this is ours, I mean they say that a lot with everywhere, but this is a thing where they don't let things, they don't let any threats go unanswered quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the tricky thing about Armageddon is it doesn't belong.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like my dim solar.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's there, but it doesn't belong there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm gonna talk about why for a minute, because it does matter a lot as we cover a lot of the Armageddon issues.
[SPEAKER_00]: So
[SPEAKER_00]: During the war of the beast, we covered this, give that a listen if you want.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if the end effect, during the Great Crusade, the Emperor and his legions found themselves engaged in his protracted battle, and what's called the ulanor system, primary and the planet ulanor.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's located, and we actually don't know where ulanor was.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's believed that there's been on the right side of the galaxy somewhere, but it's been scrubbed from all imperial records.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the planet was home to the, an orc empire, Warboss, Erloc, Erg.
[SPEAKER_00]: the empire was in effect the last major threat in the galaxy to the emperor during the Great Crusade.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because this is M30.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Eldar are still reeling from the birth of Slash, the jukari are hiding it in the web way.
[SPEAKER_00]: the harloquins are hiding in the web way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hm.
[SPEAKER_00]: The heart.
[SPEAKER_00]: The crafted.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thiefwoods try to figure the craft roads taken a step and having an existential crisis and wandering around the galaxy tower being tall.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there are no towel.
[SPEAKER_00]: The towel don't exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: The tear and ends are 10,000 years away from joining the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's like five necrons who are awake anywhere, and the vote and didn't technically exist, but now totally, but they're in the court.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're in the court.
[SPEAKER_01]: What the big of the skin about this is the emperor says, if I can quail this, then I can go do my secret projects in the basement, which didn't work out very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Worked out perfectly.
[SPEAKER_00]: After defeating the Orcs with the help of the Lunar Wolves in the Ultramarines and the White Skars, because this is heresy, so GW is still caring about the White Skars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, Dichart.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't write books about them anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not my fault.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just went, eh, White Skars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, them.
[SPEAKER_00]: The White Skars get the X girlfriend treatment by GW sometimes.
[SPEAKER_00]: So like who?
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: But after they did this, they had the big meeting, and they declared Horace the Warmaster Emperor went and did this thing in the basement, and there was no ramifications on those actions whatsoever, but older was just colonized and just became part of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for a bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: for a bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and about a thousand to fifteen hundred years later, yes, the timelines tricky here, the world just went dark.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was unnoticed, but more and pretty more, actually another one, it was just more uncared about, because it's with our M32.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Imperium is now recovering from the Horace Heresy, thanks to Gilman and the Ultramans who actually made it so they were recovering.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's supposed to all the other loyal factions who went, yeah, yeah, everything's broken.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going
[SPEAKER_00]: But the problem is that at this time, if a world went dark, it was kind of a normal occurrence, especially a world far away from segment of the solar, we'll go figure it out later.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so we'll go check on it between now and 10,000 years from now.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, in the case of Illinois, they were going to check on it a lot sooner than that.
[SPEAKER_00]: The war that we showed up started there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So not long after Ullinore, the beast invades, kicking off the war of the beast.
[SPEAKER_00]: We did three casts on this, so go back and listen to those.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in effect, as the war of the beast progressed, they eventually realized the origin of the armies of the beast were from the planet Ullinore itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is the home world for the beast, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_00]: So after one pseudo-successful, pseudo-failed attempt,
[SPEAKER_00]: Beasts, Beast Eye, I don't know how it made.
[SPEAKER_00]: How about I think you meant to say Beasties?
[SPEAKER_00]: Beasties?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a bunch of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: That story's just the beginning.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's kind of gets us to a fun point.
[SPEAKER_00]: The next bit is where as always, the AdMex grew everything up for everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: They make great stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Really great stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it always comes with a catch.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are the monkeys, Paul, of 40K factions.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, come on, now you can't put this level of temptation in front of the AdMag, because the org showed up with force fields, just planet, world, distress, undisturizing, one of them was supposed to be weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they also had, oh yeah, the ability to teleport planet-sized objects across the galaxy and the AdMag went, yeah, we need that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, they effectively said you need to get rid of all this and the ad liquid 100% were definitely going to do that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's it's a lot of funnier than anything else to me because when the orgs dropped one of the planets as a box.
[SPEAKER_01]: moon.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're a tack moon, right in orbit.
[SPEAKER_00]: After the Imperium, thanks to space marines, we're able to stop it.
[SPEAKER_00]: The ad mix are taking you to part almost instantly and we're just like losing their mind on this is the greatest thing that's ever happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Imperium, let's call it guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, you can have that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the ad mechanism is to they figure that they've gotten all the technology we can make this work.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it happens next is
[SPEAKER_00]: Once the war ends and they defeat the beast, they have an issue.
[SPEAKER_00]: The planet, Lulinore is covered in orc relics and orc technology and all these things.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Imperium looks at this and says, if another orc takes over here, this is a massive threat to the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: We can't risk even just destroying this.
[SPEAKER_00]: This place has to cease to exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the ad mech say, I got you, bro, we'll take care of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, picky promise.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they said, wait a minute, we're for sure going to teleport this into their own son.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just going to launch it in there, going to destroy this because like John was saying, if another oracle or boss starts, they're using this all of these things that keep showing up and we keep having more and more oracle problems, there's obviously power from here.
[SPEAKER_01]: technologically advanced, even for us, let alone orcs, we need to do something with us.
[SPEAKER_00]: But like the elders are this stuff, was it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, true.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Necron pushing towards Necron technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the problem is, is that the AdMAC after a pinky promise and definitely had cross behind their back because they were, yeah, man, we're definitely not launching this planet into the sun.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know, we don't even, we haven't harvested every single piece of technology from this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they said, let's just launch it.
[SPEAKER_01]: somewhere else, and then we'll say that it went into the sun because it's pretty hard to tell if you kill the planet, if you teleport it somewhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they went, let's just teleport it not into the sun, and then we'll just have as long as we need to figure out all this stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sort of, that's the problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, as always, the ad-meck don't think all the way through.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause Brad's totally right.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you teleport a planet into a sun,
[SPEAKER_00]: The sun doesn't care, it just dissolves.
[SPEAKER_00]: Something like, well, that was like it blows up the sun.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the ad make decide to Brad's point.
[SPEAKER_00]: We need more time to excavate every last minuscule piece of this planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to teleport at somewhere else, but they also decide to be super lazy about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of teleporting it somewhere really far away, they need next to a, a important for a world.
[SPEAKER_01]: John, that would be inconvenient to keep sending people there to do stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: We want to be quick, quick, quick, quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come on now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they teleport the segmentum solar.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not, I'll be honest with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guarantee you a couple of them were like, why don't we just bring it into the soul system?
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll just, we'll replace Saturn.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's way to show someone will notice, you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they find this wonderful system called Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because nothing, whatever happened bad on a place called Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they all derone the existing planet there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause remember, if anything, it's segmented, so it's already marked by the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with the ad makes it was fairly clever, they found a planet that resembled Armageddon a little bit and just blew it up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they teleported Armageddon to where that planet is.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that way, no one would really notice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause the only
[SPEAKER_00]: that the admit can't have is rogue critters show up because they can't have a new planet and a bunch of rogue critters are like, hey, I went to this planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got all these great artifacts all over it because that message is going to the imperial.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the admit do a very clever like switch a rule here.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only problem the admit run into is that Armageddon gets labeled for colonization.
[SPEAKER_00]: So while they're working over a time, and they do a good job of scrubbing the planet full of the technology dripping everything out of there, kind of, but you don't want to plan it up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they never got a chance to blow the planet up, because all of a sudden, a trillion humans show up in a colony ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: It got marked as, this is a perfect planet to make a high world.
[SPEAKER_01]: And a high world is,
[SPEAKER_01]: primed a man for the Imperium because that's the people that make everything so they sent trillions of folks over and the Ed Mac is basically doing their emo kids sad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We only had forever to look through this place.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we only had like 6,000 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: But where this is interesting is, and I would like to point this out a little bit of cast, especially because of where this cast is going to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: When we talk about 40k,
[SPEAKER_00]: magic is real.
[SPEAKER_00]: We talk about things like machine spirits, some of the weird customs with the end of the sense of stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they look silly, but they're not.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are real.
[SPEAKER_00]: These things do work, because something that demons are a thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Magic is a thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So a world that's had this much
[SPEAKER_00]: probably has an attachment to the warp that's beyond anything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a beacon.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a giant lighthouse in the middle of the ocean of the warp saying, come on over here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do some stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, baby.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so moving it halfway across the galaxy doesn't change that.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't the system.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So from there, the next piece of kind of building the story of Armageddon I want to get to are the
[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about the granites, we covered them a little bit a while back, but I wanted to dive into bit more about what they are, because it's been over a year, so we thought granites looked at them.
[SPEAKER_00]: The granites are not a normal chapter of a start-in, and when I say not normal chapter, we've got minitars, char carodans, terror tigers, never gonna let that go, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're all space marines, but just have an unknown founding.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they're all at their core still as start-in, we'll also, there's quite a few of the
[SPEAKER_00]: The grainites are really space marine 2.0.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have a prime mark because their gene seed is the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are imbued with the emperor himself.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how they're at the ages on this.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are uncorruptible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're a bit special.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they have all the rest of the regular space marine bits.
[SPEAKER_00]: The organ implantation is the strength, the power, the speed,
[SPEAKER_00]: But then they also get the cipher piece, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they get the emperors shoved into them, making them immune to corruption and increasing a lot of their power, but also all gray nights are cikers.
[SPEAKER_00]: And not like the I can cast cikers.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are some of the most powerful cikers in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just the regular dude walking around with laugh at a librarian.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just like good, you're adorable.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do also love the fact they go through a crazy process also.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, man, how do you become a great night john.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, they don't there's no aspirants.
[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't you or you?
[SPEAKER_00]: Solidarity.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, hey, you've checked a bunch of boxes and have a bunch of latent abilities and we want you whether you want to or not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, no green light and they cover this in the novel, but the green lights, they actually block out all their memories from beforehand.
[SPEAKER_00]: Grants have no idea where they came from.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just wake up one day as a green light with a number, and then they earn a name later.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so also you make it sound real, please, sir.
[SPEAKER_01]: You make that process sound like it was, hey, they gave you that pill and now you forget your past.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, they secretly wipe your mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's really talented.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mine's scrubbing torture to make you forget.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like you're like, hey, take the blue pill and you'll forget everything that happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's the blue pill gave you the GI tract of bread.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's hurtful, and sure not as much as that as hurtful as your GI tract is after spicy food.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or any, you said true, but like, Brad, I have just some five alarm wings.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so you want me to die, or wish I was dead.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the, maybe both.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the main thing about the green axis, what we're going to, is that though that,
[SPEAKER_00]: upliftment process, explodes or psychic abilities, and makes them some of the best fighters of the immaterial in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: which also that little bit, I just said there matters to the other key part about the Grey Nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: No one knows they exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is really important.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Grey Nights, they are part of the inquisition under Orta Malias.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not, okay, just pause on that one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody knows the existence.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Grey Nights have been seen so much even though they continue to pretend that they haven't.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the point of this story,
[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_00]: So my point, when we get to this, but how it four, four, four of them 40, the great nights are not well, because of what happens in Armageddon, they become a much more known commodity, although they're still not fully known.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true, but I'm just saying it's one of those things where everybody just kind of pretends they don't know the right nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we can jump into that a little bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the gray nights are known by the inquisition, obviously the lords of Tara, and then when I even share if it's every chapter master, but at least select chapter masters, I see there's nowhere, it just gets tricky because like you have chapter masters of some of the small chapters, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's some of those.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's all this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, on the mains, 100% they all know.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's just about peace.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's probably some administrators who know, yada, yada.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the job of the grain knights is to intervene whenever chaos appears in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they rapidly deploy and then secretly destroy whenever any immaterial manifest in the material.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the key things we're talking demonic forces, so with demons or present, they'll banish them and they'll put awards to make them not come through.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's only part of their job.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other part of their job is a little bit,
[SPEAKER_00]: convoluted.
[SPEAKER_00]: Brad and I we've had this to bake numerous times here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we have.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is M40.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're right now this cask going to be all up 444 of M40 and knowledge of chaos for the arch enemy is a secret or is it the timeline here is really goofy because sometimes the citizenry knows of chaos, sometimes it knows nothing of chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it knows a little bit about chaos, but not how powerful chaos is and other times they know absolutely everything about it, you know, it's just all over the place and
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the jobs for the inquisition has been for a long time and even goes in and now we're busy m42 now, cleansing when people learn about chaos, sort of kind of maybe not always.
[SPEAKER_00]: The grey knights take that to a different level, the grey knights will cleanse a population
[SPEAKER_00]: but they will also cleanse anyone who's seen them or had an erection.
[SPEAKER_00]: And, example this, interestingly, also involved anger on, in FM38, anger on 50,000 berserkers hit the imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: And for 200 years, there was a war.
[SPEAKER_00]: four space marine chapters, two titan legions, 30 guard regiments and the great nights had to get involved after hundreds of worlds were burned by angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: No one knows about that except for the great nights and a few people who worked me.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is this one, this is M38.
[SPEAKER_00]: So everyone's dead except for newspapers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you weren't super excited if you just got saved by the great nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you died.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, as we've been discussing, the Starty's leadership kind of knows about the Grey Knights, and that's because the Starty's do fight chaos, but we're still not even sure how much to know about Grey Knights.
[SPEAKER_00]: We know they know about the Inquisition, obviously, in the order of Malias, but as far as, oh, hey, there's a battle brother that exists.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's like you, but actually it's made specifically for fighting demons.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those ones where my assumption, assumption, is that they will know about the great nights if their chapter was engaged in the conflict that the granites had to assist in.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you do have chapters who are going to spend most of their time fighting against Xenos.
[SPEAKER_00]: or maybe even just cultists, you don't need the grainites for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: You did that, some of the grainites, the grainists don't get involved with cultists.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't get involved with, because you're going to have, if the grainites had to call, or they just had to call every single time a cultist at Rebellion came up, there would be 11 people in the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's like no, it's like no, so the grant's only get involved when an actual demon makes manifest because it's like oh, when you've seen a Lord of change, they decide no you didn't and don't tell anybody and we're going to make sure that those two things are true.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it to Armageddon itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's jump in this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start in the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: Inside the eye of terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: The chaos forces are always fighting each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not always, but mostly you get little times.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost always.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, they basically fight really totally nonstop.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then every so often to do the step brothers did we just become best friends and then later decide to know we were not best friends.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we've had 12 Abadad Crusades at this point, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the Imperium is starting to really fortify it, because also a lot of the leader Crusades are him bringing more and more stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Imperium has wildly, the Katie is comical at this point in time before the 13th Crusade, the fortifications.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's several of the guns.
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the big things for the great nights
[SPEAKER_01]: When you're monitoring for demonic incursions, you're looking into the warp, well, it's not super easy because there's a lot of things, but warp powers just cause warp disturbances.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's where you start focusing what you're looking at.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the imperium's learned at this, that basically when a large warp storm start up, something's coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the best way to explain.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a red moon on the horizon type stuff that we think about like more modern-day earth stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are bad moments.
[SPEAKER_00]: Start coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, inside the material, the world leaders are maybe the least organized and the most chaotic of all the regions.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the downside of being beholden to the God of war, conquest, and combat is everyone's constantly trying to prove themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: The world you just got broken into were bands, because it looked like choice.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like you were broken into, it wasn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was by choice after car and decided that.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's like the fact that we say wasn't like we say I just said we say broken apart.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like someone did something the Legion Oh no Legion apart.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just Every individual member of the world leaders wants to be the greatest world leaders don't really High five and team up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey buddy, you got my back.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll go
[SPEAKER_01]: They've definitely become mercenaries for a Muslim.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just keep joining into whoever is going to war.
[SPEAKER_01]: It wants great war.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're almost orkish promising them a fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: They go with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, we talked about this in another cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can only imagine a world leader's battle barge of getting to the battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's got a nightmare.
[SPEAKER_00]: So apparently though after 10,000 years in the war, Angron does the record Ralph Zangheaf where it's the guy in bad guy, but not bad guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a terrible guy, but he decides that he instead of again M38, when he hit the galaxy, he was him in berserkers.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were just in the galaxy killing stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: He decides he wants to unify his legion now.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he takes a different steps that being berserkers, he's grabbing everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you did a way to do it, so if only there could be a big shiny object.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what happens next, by the way, is more work than it is chaos, because an anger on really needs something to go his way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: This, I love, I know it's stupid, but I just love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because like, all I can think of is anger on sitting on a giant throne going, I really need a way to unify, get everybody together, and storm into the material, and a space hole, just.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just a personal problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like he's like, he just wished a pot of star.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, speaking of wishing a pot of star, that I love that they say that the name of the Hulk was the devour of stars.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, in my mind, he didn't rename that.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just had a plaque on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's sad.
[SPEAKER_00]: The devour of the stars just appears next to him.
[SPEAKER_00]: I assume with a little like a ding sound like what are coming with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And an agronis does the effort we ball maneuver and grabs everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: He grabs his legion, but all they've everyone within weekly, not carn, but it's for
[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, come on, a bunch of demons jump on the cultists who were in the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: They all went Noah's arc two by two style into the destroyer of stars and then decided to let corn take the wheel.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see where we go.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I just have to say that I'm assuming this operation was operation Yolo Swagans.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone get in the ship.
[SPEAKER_00]: Where's it going?
[SPEAKER_00]: Stop.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't ask stupid questions.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, somewhere cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Shut up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Get in any of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, back in the material, stuff starts going haywire.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're starting massive warped storms everywhere, standard side, chaos incursions, imminent, but from where.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so as this storm is progressing, the grain nights are searching the warped for any sort of movement.
[SPEAKER_00]: Looking for where is this going to be?
[SPEAKER_00]: And the problem for the grain nights, this is really what covered in the book, it should be clear, they couldn't find it, no matter where they look, they don't see it anywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they start getting worried.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, some things up, we don't know what's going on, we should know what's gonna happen next.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so as he's warp storm, he's not just localized, they aren't making any system, it's throughout the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: They start sending people all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: The same time one of the big problems in warp storms is it disrupts travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: A warp storm is no different than if we go back to, you know, the naval errors of the globe where we had sailboats going all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: You get like a big storm comes through.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no shipments that are coming in.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you start getting shortages of food and all those things.
[SPEAKER_00]: So uprising start occurring all around the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these uprisings are expected.
[SPEAKER_00]: The planetary defense forces actually know they're coming because hey, there's a warped storm.
[SPEAKER_00]: So all the foods going to be late.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's maybe prepare for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so these are all cultist usually led upurizing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's just straight rebellion.
[SPEAKER_00]: But more often than not, there'll be a cultist led ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is all because Alfred Lewis was right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Simply put, people will eventually the water gate reporter.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, Alfred Lewis.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're always nine meals away from anarchy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you miss nine meals and you'll get anarchy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been proven time and time again.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what you got here in Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm staying with water gate.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where by Biden, we don't like, I don't know how he's tying this in.
[SPEAKER_00]: So on Armageddon, let's get now to the meat and potatoes of this whole thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the world of Armageddon is a high world.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world's made up of three continents.
[SPEAKER_00]: The game civilization style, because it's really obvious where a GW plate civilization.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the continents are larger than others and some have more values.
[SPEAKER_00]: Each continent has a contingent of hives on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a main continent that has because we have to write a story now, but I've said when one of the continents has two main hives and they are named Armageddon Prime and Armageddon's secundas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the main one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's and there's a giant thing of jungle separating them too.
[SPEAKER_00]: I played this in Civ 5.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: out of nowhere, I'm not really out of nowhere, it's expected with the shortages of the six hives around the planet all have outbreaks of rebellion, it's food shortages, I should expect.
[SPEAKER_00]: And all the revolutions are put down pretty quickly except on the main continent.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, a lot of these had cultists in them, but they were just clapped out no problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, I've primus proved to be pretty stubborn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hives secundus was able to put it down and get control but I primus is a whack-a-mole.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so funny because you're like, hey, we've got to revolt over here.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the farthest place away was another revolt.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they kept having to bounce.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is all, but it's getting together.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hive secundas gets their stuff together and they start actually moving to go health about Hive primus.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when the devour of stars blinks into existence right above Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_00]: And kind of like when the orcs with the war of the beast arrive, it's not just a space station in orbit.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a space station full of problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also equally fun, as soon as this thing blinks into orbit,
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's written in an instant.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say it, and they instantly were not happy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And letting them come down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, nice not going for the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this increasingly winnable revolution is now turned into an imminent disaster.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing that saves Armageddon is that there's another defender of the Imperium not far away, unfortunately it wasn't the Ultramarines, but it still is blue, and blue is still good, so we get the Spaceless.
[SPEAKER_00]: Spaceless and Logan Groves.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be critical in this cast a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: They happen to be patrolling in the sector as a result of the warp storms.
[SPEAKER_00]: and they detect what's going on, and yeah, we're going to deal with that right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron, world leaders, demons, they've all descended on the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly around primus, though, not around secundus, and we're going to get that's going to matter a lot in a minute.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron, and then obviously do pretty short work of session one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about the beginning, because the beginning, they actually graphically start wrecking people.
[SPEAKER_01]: and world leader style.
[SPEAKER_01]: They start making spectacles of people also.
[SPEAKER_01]: People are unbelievably demoralized like we can't run away.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you keep a score, man, but we just got our asses kicked.
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
[SPEAKER_01]: Luckily, the wolves show up and not only start putting in strategic defenses, getting ready the smash, but also seeing them come down basically gives them a rail boost that the planetary defenses actually start fighting back.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because at this point in time, they were getting so overwhelmed.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even think they were trying to fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were just straight.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, I mean, demons just showed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not really, I mean, I get it.
[SPEAKER_00]: yes or where they exist.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just I'm just saying that there's a lot of planetary defense positions fortified heavily fortified that didn't even matter because no one was bothering to stay because they were shooting their pants, you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a pretty existential moment of what is no is kind of what we get into.
[SPEAKER_00]: But
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the other thing that does help though, so they get those fences going, this also they're aided by the fact that this is before the rift in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the ability for a demon to exist outside of the in-metarium inside the material is load.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the larger the demon, the bigger the
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron's a pretty big demon, and I should mention, I'll jump ahead of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's surrounded by blood thirsters.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a pretty big draw on the immaterial.
[SPEAKER_00]: So in order to keep himself and his army tethered to the material, Angron can't move very quickly, because he has to constantly raise monuments to corn, his piling skulls, burning pits of fire, whatever you're going to do, in order to keep himself there, which slows him down.
[SPEAKER_00]: Grimnar knows this and Grimnar uses it to his own advantage.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the biggest things about it is he needs to have a constant slaughter to keep himself there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Grimnar just starts to pull everyone back so they just don't have so much chaff to murder and keep going to.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so angriom, and what Logan does is he also would
[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of ranges this really well.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Angron will sit there and he'll raise a monument to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, around that monument, the link to the image here is very strong, but the further you get from it, obviously, the weaker it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Logan backs his forces up, not all the, but just far enough that he's in tempting range of the, of Angron his forces.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then when Angron his forces come in, Logan's at the very edge of kind of that power source, allowing him to be much more effective against them,
[SPEAKER_00]: and he does this over and over and there's some in the book they talk about these stories like they fight they do a counter attack into one of those.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just trying to get it, yeah, they're trying to get them to overextend so they can weaken their pull because they actually are weaker.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're like actually physically weaker.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: The less they have connection to the impact area.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're just easier to kill.
[SPEAKER_01]: And
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a big thing when you have people covered in brass armor that are as big as tanks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, also soccer tossing tanks.
[SPEAKER_01]: So also Logan realizes, hey, man, I need some help.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Logan does know about the great nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he puts in a call and says, hey, this is here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, back to the great nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jump back, back on Titan, the great nights receive the first reports from Armageddon, and it's worse than they ever could have imagined.
[SPEAKER_00]: a theme in Primark is back in the prime of the day.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is, I was to say, we didn't realize or have any inkling that this happened, is a big deal for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they talked about it in the book about they realized Angla with Blocking them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They realized, at the after the moment that Angron and the forces were blinding them to this.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a well-written piece talking about, oh, and so they have this issue.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to get there now.
[SPEAKER_00]: because we talked about anger on like hating psychers and he does hate psychers, but he's also because he is a demon prince of corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot of, we'll call it warp power.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's not, you know, what we could do normal psychic power, where he's manifesting and blessing.
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, he has a presence in the warp, and there's a lot of warp flowing through him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it was, the thing is that it's not even just presence.
[SPEAKER_01]: He causes a mess in the war.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, this challenge wasn't the granites.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just not really prepared for this scenario at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been spread out, but assuming that there is some sort of like maybe greater demon, most likely some chaos sorcerers in play, they kind of think a dozen granites can take care of.
[SPEAKER_00]: and runs a bit bigger of a lift and because he blinded them to it, they're spread out.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's also too close to soul for them to kind of let this thing go.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they take off and all they have, the 109 great nights, which is not a lot by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is not a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're fighting in a primer.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think what you're trying to say is the words we're looking for is not enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: not even just not a lot, not in y'all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is nothing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause you're taking on not only a demon primar, but also the forces of corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, corn fans, I love corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think corn's more fun than angron, but we're not gonna pretend that they're on the same scale.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the most dangerous being possibly in the immatarium and the material.
[SPEAKER_00]: A very angry and fully powered angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, call it up, oyster combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Grey Nights arrive, Logan then goes and meets with them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this scene is epic.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, really good book.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Grey Nights have put together a plan of action.
[SPEAKER_00]: The idea is they're going to teleport striking to the middle of the demonic forces and fight anger on directly, because if they can banish him,
[SPEAKER_00]: than the rest of the forces would lose their attachment to the material, and all that's left with the cultists and chaos marines with no demonic support, which is with the size of the force they have there, that won't be that hard to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the fun part about this plan is, Angron is not by himself, he's got body guards, and his body guards, I assume there's eight of them, but there might have been 80, like it's
[SPEAKER_01]: I say he has a actual retinue of bloodthirsty, which is if you're going to go with a retinue,
[SPEAKER_01]: A rental of bloodthirsty is probably the most intimidating of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not ideal.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not ideal.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they need to have happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they're going to pull this off, they have to have angronis forces distracted, which with the space walls, we're going to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: The space walls, we're going to do a full assault into angronis forces to distract them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wall and Grond has turned the other way that would allow the Grinnis teleport town because teleportation does have can be blocked with work power So if Angron knows it's coming he could scatter them So he has to actually be fully distracted But this is a big ask on this because I love this part of the book because They effectively go hey our plan is for you to get wrecked So so we can do this and the wolves agree
[SPEAKER_00]: But, yeah, Logan demands a chat first, and it has a chat look what's still looking in the eyes what it says What do a couple things the first thing you want to do is he wants to look them in the eyes Logan's never met a great night, so he's he wants to go and meet these battle brothers of his and see what's going on
[SPEAKER_00]: But the real reason he gets there is he wants to have a chat with them about the English, about after the battle.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the issue is, Logan's been here for, it could be weeks.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's unclear how long this battle goes on before the grain nights arrive.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Armageddon is currently the site of the largest chaos incursion in Imperial history, since the battle for terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've never been this many.
[SPEAKER_00]: And actually,
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, another redeem is there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, this is the most demons we've had in one spot in the Imperium, this level of incursion that I'm aware of, someone can correct me, but that's the most number of chaos is going to top that in a couple centuries.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't worry, they'll blow this one out of the water, but this is some of the inquisition needs to have removed from all imperial records.
[SPEAKER_01]: It Logan is not cool with this because over the course of the time that they've been fighting,
[SPEAKER_01]: a bunch of the regular citizens have really stepped up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Logan calls them heroes of the Imperium because they've been so brave in the face of demonic incursion, and he wants to know, hey, what's going to happen after?
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to win.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it checkbox where the good guys, we're going to win this.
[SPEAKER_01]: What are we going to do after this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the challenge is that
[SPEAKER_00]: there's an issue here.
[SPEAKER_00]: From the inquisition standpoint, anyone who's seen this is a, they're not just a chance they could turn heretic, it's they could actually lead a heresy.
[SPEAKER_00]: People may have varying levels of knowledge of the art genemy, because obviously in the teachings of the Imperial Creed, the emperor is fighting against the art genemy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if people know it, but imagine people discovering how powerful that our genemy is, man, that opens up a lot more doors for someone to turn heretic.
[SPEAKER_00]: The problem for Logan, Logan knows this.
[SPEAKER_00]: He knows the English and is going to kill anyone who has seen a demon.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's accepted that, whether he's okay with this or he's accepted it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But what Logan did when he deployed down to Armagede was he and his forces worked really hard to kind of courral and grind on the forces in this area just near Hive Primus.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hive Secundus hasn't even had no idea of the demon's present and the other Hive's in the planet aren't even aware there's a war going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: because he'd locked them all down.
[SPEAKER_00]: He'd put every hive into the lockdown.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no communication in out.
[SPEAKER_00]: There weren't really windows to start with.
[SPEAKER_00]: But those people have no idea what's going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he calls it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, look, these citizens know nothing of this war.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are as pure of heart as they ever could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: They will be spared.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then the point Brad was making the other challenge, is he's talking about the planetary defense force.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who's really at this point more of a regiment?
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause it's been go time.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are staring down a demon holding a Lazarifle and fighting.
[SPEAKER_00]: And his point is these are heroes.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are not people who need to be exterminated.
[SPEAKER_00]: So these are heroes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's giving this speech to Lord Yoros, who's the grandmaster of the great nights, brother, Christian, Arilian, Kisnaros, who's an inquisitor, and a very soon to be important squad leader named Casti and Hyperion.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to come up a lot, pretty soon.
[SPEAKER_00]: they all look at him and they all have a side conversation with psychic by the way to each other basically saying so is he going to stop talking soon because it's not going to change anything that we're going to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these hands are delicious.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also look at speech is pretty awesome in the book by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: He gives an impassioned speech about the heroes after him because he's just these are common.
[SPEAKER_01]: He makes a big point of saying that
[SPEAKER_01]: non-space Marines, now you are just standing up to the hordes of chaos and it's heroic, you know, when you're not a Marine, when Brad stands there with my stick,
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's pretty awesome, but let's get to the battle itself because what happens next is simply it's go time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron's forces get assaulted by the space wolves and the planetary defense forces distracted and the granites teleport into an absolute nightmare.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like this book, it's the Emperor's gift.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is chapter 12 or so.
[SPEAKER_00]: The ones before that are fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: From chapter 12 to the end of the book.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, fantastic.
[SPEAKER_00]: The beginning of the book, by the way, is how a Greenite is made, if you want to know that stuff it's great, it's interesting, they're backstory, but anyway, I want to talk about the cool part of the book, so chapter 12.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Greenites in an instant are next to Angron and a bunch of blood thirsters,
[SPEAKER_00]: They describe it as the sky is raining blood, not a trickle, but like a monsoon where if they didn't have psychic vision, even through like their visors, like they're with all the technology that they wouldn't be able to see.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these are giant winged creatures who are tearing up so much dust, that's like being in like a dust storm of the Sahara.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and there's a demon prime mark there, which is probably not ideal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of that none of these people are prepared for.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've never, they've fought demons, they've fought stuff, they've never seen this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron looks at them and is not cool that they're there.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Aigrad puts on his boots and mighty ass cakey and decides, I'm in a, how many are there?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in a kill 109 and anybody that you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: The, to make matters worse, the great nights can't kill Aigrad.
[SPEAKER_00]: They all they can do is banish him.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's an immortal being of corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can wound him, which lessons his connection to the warp, but you have to do a sending to reference Final Fantasy 10.
[SPEAKER_00]: great nights as soon as they land, begin a combination of actions.
[SPEAKER_00]: They start using their psychic powers to create a network, to channel their powers together, to disrupt anger on his forces.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this way they can banish him.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the same time, they've got all their ruinic weapons, which really are lame on the tape.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're so awesome in law.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorites about this is, they make a point of saying this, every single bullet.
[SPEAKER_01]: has ruins on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I can only imagine that there's like random servitors just sitting there going.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is bullshit as they're inscribing all the bullets, which is one unit of high.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just man, this is
[SPEAKER_00]: but they also have four staves and four swords that have it, the all is designed to damage demons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Others are channeling four fields because that's also gonna come if you're fighting a being four or five times your size, that's carrying an axe, probably good to have a four field.
[SPEAKER_00]: Problem with a forest field though.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is where it starts to fall apart.
[SPEAKER_00]: The forest field can stop a blood therster, can stop a blood letter, no problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: How about a demon prince former primarck?
[SPEAKER_01]: And it did work out so well for him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so he starts wrecking.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron is starts cutting down grain nights.
[SPEAKER_00]: So 1.3 takes like a dozen in one swipe with his foot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he starts sweeping him through like saron.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the beginning of load of the rings.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the where he starts doing is they put up force fields and he'll hit the force field once and then he'll crack it on the second or third swing.
[SPEAKER_00]: He also swings pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now we get to Hyperion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hyperion is, he's a up to his point, a cycle of no great significance.
[SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot of power, but he's known the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty emotional.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he had the psychic powers to be what's called a prognostic or who's like the one and more powerful psychers of the great nights, but he didn't know how to channel his power as well, and he wasn't great at listening to orders.
[SPEAKER_00]: So great character for a
[SPEAKER_00]: As Angron is bearing down on him and his squad, Grun reaches Hyperion's best friend, Malkadeel.
[SPEAKER_00]: Malkadeel.
[SPEAKER_00]: Malkadeel.
[SPEAKER_00]: Malkadeel.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say this is also what they call him in the book.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, and Malk gets wrecked by Angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't die, but he's about to die.
[SPEAKER_00]: And seeing this, Hyperion channels a bunch of psychic power and freezes Angron's sword in mid-air as Angron's mid-swipe, which, by the way,
[SPEAKER_00]: it was not cool with at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very angry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is so far because for me, this is like a Star Wars moment when you realize, oh yeah, I'm super powerful with a dark side of the forest, which I haven't been using, but I'm going to use right now, because this is our rage power.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then Angron is basically yelling inconceivable, but with actual anger at it, back at him.
[SPEAKER_00]: As this plays out out of nowhere, the blade breaks and explodes from Hyperion's power.
[SPEAKER_00]: The blade gives out, it leaves an angron kind of stain or holding no blade, and now significantly diminished versus the immaterial.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hyperion falls unconscious because he was actually using his own soul to power this.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's why when Brad was talking about the channeling the dark side, he basically ran out of work power and started using his own soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't go great.
[SPEAKER_00]: But
[SPEAKER_00]: as Hyperion falls asleep, and Grond's reeling, brother Captain Orrillian steps up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a goal, so he just yells, and Grond face your judgment.
[SPEAKER_00]: And long story short, and Orrillian defeat sang Grond, banishing him for a hundred years at a day.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on, he defeats him.
[SPEAKER_01]: However, he does not make it either, it's not like yeah, it's not like he was like I'm too skilled And I kicked his ass you're like hey, what happened?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I got my arms pull the part and beat with them But I did manage.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually not clear how he dies to me I don't remember how he dies.
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was just the use of the second power is killed him That that was my read on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know maybe I miss I might have missed it though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron's banish the space wolves launch a full assault and with anger and going all the demons to be with him almost immediately.
[SPEAKER_00]: So give this awkward moment or a bunch of cultists and world leaders are kind of standing round going.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so my big brother's not here anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got an out of here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Parlay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Question mark.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, oh, you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I thought it was another guy named Bill.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm real sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: awkward.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is less than ideal.
[SPEAKER_00]: So effectively, in an instant, it's not really because it does take, it's more going after.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in this, the war is really over.
[SPEAKER_00]: The war is one.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is that moment in a war where a battle turns, and that battle basically seals the fate for everything else.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the demon's gone, a couple of world leaders are left around the cultists.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is something that the space wolves who took losses, but not catastrophic losses.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the planetary forces are going to mop up pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that, the space wolves arrived in the battlefield where the grenades had fought angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they ate the grainites and recovering what they kept.
[SPEAKER_00]: This moment, the Hyperion and Mali, it's the pull bodies off of them, so they can stand up again.
[SPEAKER_00]: They actually help them get back to their ships where the apothecaries can start putting them back together again.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the key part of this is that the Grey Nights had succeeded, but it was incredible losses.
[SPEAKER_00]: 109 Grey Nights went to Armageddon, 13 remain.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, great, big ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on.
[SPEAKER_01]: 13 remained.
[SPEAKER_01]: What have them remain?
[SPEAKER_00]: At least one of them is, again, is in a pseudo-permanent coma.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, they're referred to, he likely won't come out of.
[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been 200 years there, he might have popped out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But,
[SPEAKER_00]: At the same time, this is going to matter a lot for the next bit we're going into.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hyperion is now a very big deal within the space wolves.
[SPEAKER_00]: The space wolves were not fighting over there while the great nights were fighting anger on.
[SPEAKER_00]: The space wolves were looking at the fight of anger on while this was going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: They saw the blade break.
[SPEAKER_01]: They saw who made the blade
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the space wolves really are impressed by Hyperion.
[SPEAKER_00]: They think this is because he checks all their boxes that he stood mono a mono against a demon prince and broke its weapon.
[SPEAKER_00]: No comment on a really and who also the same thing and died, but that's not important here because we're writing a novel.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not writing something logical.
[SPEAKER_00]: The battle is over, and it's time to decide what to do with the people of Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where the story starts to get ugly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Grimnar had made his opinion known, but Grimnar is not part of the inquisition, and it was their decision not his, and they made one.
[SPEAKER_00]: The entire population must die.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every single being on Armageddon has to die.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a problem though.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the problem is that they can't use an exterminatus, which is what they would usually use.
[SPEAKER_00]: These scenarios, pull that door a bit, nuclear from a space, virus, bomb it from space.
[SPEAKER_00]: The planet is too valuable.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a major hive world with tons of manufacturing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they didn't even want to damage the buildings.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they have to kind of kill everyone one by one.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they decided to really messed up plan.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to sterilize them all.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that way they can't ever have kids.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they send them all off to work camps.
[SPEAKER_00]: which is really messed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're going to take the entire population and move them out of the hives, put in work camps where they're sterilized, and they will work till they're dead.
[SPEAKER_00]: Problem solved.
[SPEAKER_00]: Spate will think it's not like that baby.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it gets worse though.
[SPEAKER_00]: The one that's actually worse, which is bigger thing for the space wolves, is all the guardsmen who fought.
[SPEAKER_00]: The difference is the populists didn't see the demons, but they're aware of conflict.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the argument the inquisition would made to all this, would have been something akin to.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were two close to the powers of chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: That, it's definitely going to affect their souls.
[SPEAKER_00]: where is the guardsman thaw and grunt.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they decide for them, they're actually just gonna kill all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like with the populists, we'll let them die out.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're killing every single one of these.
[SPEAKER_00]: And to Brad's point, they want to y'all grimd our referred to as heroes of the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now get to get murdered and cold blood.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ain't going out like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that, we're going to break.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to break because next week we're going to cover the months of shame, which is both epic and tragic at the exact same time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is a really cool story.
[SPEAKER_00]: It has some plot holes to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's not important, but it is pretty epic and makes a space for us, it's really cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right, baby.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so next week, space wolf time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Surprise, extra space wolf cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: But until then, John Barassotti, Brad Jester, this guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys then.
