Who could have imagined that an episode involving Cletus' family would turn out so great?! So much to love here in both stories, whether it's the genuinely scary "Dark Stanley" story, to Lisa rescuing the Spuckler children form the clutches of Krusty.

NOTE: This episode goes best...with lemon.

This week we're Here's the review episode j ABF zero nine. It is a
Yocal Chords Iron Dando and I am guy me pleasantly surprised, Mate. I
posted in the Patreon today, I'm like, going into this episode, I
was like, it's about the sparkle of children. I was like, and
everyone knows my disdain for I don't hate Cletus, I just hate the way
he's being used lately, right, the overused and just I'm not a huge
fan, kind of like side shoe melt. And I watched it and I
got to the end and I went hot, Diggity Dan. That was the
best episode of the season so far. I had a lot of fun with
it. I enjoyed it very much. And I have a I suspect why
that might be the case. Why is that not a whole lot of cleans
the thing is and when they did use him. Besides, at the very
start, it was like rich Cletus. It was like a different version of
Cli. Yes, yeah, it's corrupted Cletus. You know, it's sort
of blinded by the wealth. Yeah, which is a bit of a bit
of a cliche, but also pretty funny. Yeah. Yeah. But the
fact that it focused on the kids mostly and fleshed out the kids to some
degree, game a little bit of character, gave the names, you know,
it was great. It was that it didn't focus. As Lisa points
out, the metagag of this show, you know, perpetuates the stance of
all hillbillies. What is that yogls a hicks? There's a term, she
says, the exact words, what is it here? This show just perpetuates
that all yogals are hicks? Right, and then there's a pause. I
could have done me that the pause, we got it, but you know
whatever, I liked that and what it made me realize, wait a minute,
what they're doing here is the kids aren't idiots. No, no,
they've just been victims of their situation. They have been well neglected to some
degree. And the second that they get sort of introduced to culture that they're
fine, they're not normally can't give them opportunities. Yeah, and I thought
the setup was very clever as well, like we know they're there, but
we can't let them in because the grades are going then further, I just
I enjoyed every aspect of this episode, even the second plot with Bart.
I thought the opening act was very fun, dark Stanley and everything. Well,
that was great. Let's not jump ahead to our favorite bits. Yeah,
yeah, there was a lot to enjoy this episode, including a cavalcade
of guest stars all used perfectly. They were indeed, and I mean Meg
Ryan. I didn't realize was make Ryan, nor did I, but you
knew it was somebody though. Yes, all the while I'm listening going this
is a very familiar voice and a voice that I like a whole lot.
Yeah, because your power guy. Here was card carrying Meg Ryan fanboy.
I imagine you being like a when Harry met Sally. Is that what she's
in? Yes? Yeah? And what was the other slips in Seattle?
And You've Got You've Got Mail was the big one. When I was a
kid, it was like everyone talked about because emails. What this new fandagle
thing? You've got me? It's funny that that is, you know.
At the time, it was like, oh, yeah, there's this crazy
thing called the Internet and you can send letters vibe. You just have to
get to www dot and poor little books was going to get crushed by big
borders bookstores. I remember writing ages Girls, like they really should make a
sequel to You've Got Mail, where Meg Ryan has set up like an online
e bookstore that puts Tom Haiks's borders out of me business. Because it's such
a movie of its time, but you watch it now and it's just so
charming. It really is. I mean that's the magic of Nora Efron,
who wrote and directed it. Yeah, but I mean she knows how to
make just great romantic comedies. And even if the trappings do feel like this
is the most nineteen ninety eight that you can get it's still like still it's
still work. I mean, it's it's a remaking classic nineteen forties movie as
well, Is it really which one? It's called The Shop around the Corner
with Jimmy Stewart, not You've got Penn, You've got Mara, You've you've
got more, You've got smoke signals. Yeah, but no hearing. I
felt bad that I didn't recognize it was Meg Ryan. But that's the beauty
of it that I was almost kind of like, is it Susan Sarandon?
Is it Michelle fiv It was like one of those many women that guy had
a crush on, But then seeing that it was Meg Ryan, who was
I should say still is because you know she's still making movies. She actually
she directed the film with David d'cavny that came out not long ago. I
think it's called What Happens Next and sort of like a bit of a rom
common as well. Why does that happen now? Where stars who were so
huge in like the nineties, they're still making movies but you don't really hear
about them anymore. I know, notice get sort of replaced or yeah,
I mean the theory that they are basically eight different face types. But Holloiano
still making moves. Everyone talks about Keiano. There are still people like Tom
Hanks, Tom Hank Pieles talking about Tom Hanks. I do, yeah,
I mean I think you've got to be fairly savvy and how you play the
game. Yeah, sadly there's a bit of sexism as well. True.
I mean, you know, I've bember Sandra Bullock, well, Santra Bullicks
still doing very well. But what movies was she in recently? Like big,
big, the last one I remember the biggest one was like the the
Space one with Clooney. She did one called The Lost City with Channing Tatum
not long ago, okay, and she's like Channing Tatum, not sounding Tatum.
Is her love interest? Sounds like a video game movie. Yeah,
it's very much like a romance in the Stone kind of rip off. Okay,
It's not great, but it's fun and she's good in it, and
it made a ship ton of money. I mean, so, I mean
good for her. Yeah, she's doing very very well. Yes, I
love Sandra Bullock, love it well. I love Meg Ryan and I loved
her in this. I thought she did a very good job, but not
just Meg Ryan. No, you've got the late great musical theater genius Stevenson.
I wish, I wish it was the late Andy Dick. I just
love it. One of my favorite bits. And I'll just jump ahere because
I'll tell you the rest of my movies. But one of my friends like,
yeah, everybody hates Andy Dick. I was surprised they had him on
though, I know, given the history with philm Yeah. I was like,
wow, he actually I thought, okay, the perking find Andy Dick.
I was like, no, he voiced it. Yeah, really wow.
I was surprised by that too. Man, if only John Lovets was
on board as well, made me in the same episode, and I was
surprised. You're looking at the closing credits to see all the all the guest
voices that Patterson was in it. James James Patterson was in it, and
Peter Bogdanovich. Yeah, another another late Hollywood great. Explained why it was
so great. He's came here here. Yeah, well he's playing the psycholarist
or psychia psychiatrist of Meg Ryan's character, who's also a doctor Samson. Yeah,
yeah, and one of his because it was Swanson Swanson, not Samson
Swanson Swanson. Yeah. Yeah. He was primarily known as a filmmaker,
but he also branched out into acting, and one of his last roles was
playing the therapist of Doctor Melphi Tony Sopranos therapist, the therapist on the sopran
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, so he was riffing on that a bit.
Yeah yeah, So I don't know. It's just seemed like a very thoughtful
episode. And I think both both of you and I tend to like musical
episodes. Yeah, and this had a bunch of good songs in it,
and he wrote the Willly one. Michael Price wrote this episode, the Wily
episode. That's right, you your new best Bard. So spoiler Michael Price
has agreed to come on the podcast early next year. So forget that on
the feed looks like it's getting replaced. I was just like, I watched
this and I was like, I think, at this go home, because
he's another Carolyn de Meine write all the best episodes of the recent season.
So because he did Mummy Beers where they replaced Mo's Bar with the pub,
that's right, that was a really good episode as well. And he's written
a handful of great one I did. You did a really good job with
this one. The director also did a good job, and we're talking about
that a little later on. But yeah, otherwise, what else is happening
in the world, I mean your world, I mean leading up to Christmas?
Are all extremely busy and stressed. Well, you know, here's the
thing. I was stressed out this morning because usually here on a when they
were recording this on the thirteenth of December to twenty twenty three, normally Wednesdays
are my child free day. And then a couple of days ago, Mom
was like, would you mind having the kids from like eleven till two because
ive got a Christmas lunch? And I was like, fucking Christmas lunches,
all right, no worries, I watch the kids. I watch the kids
anyway. So then now that she calls up, she's like, would you
mind if it's just oldaggs, I've got a Christmas dinner? And I was
like, you know what, No, don't you go double up? No?
No, no, no, no no. Basically she was like,
okay, I'll come back and get on. I'm like, yes you shall.
So Mum rocked up at ten thirty, not eleven. So I wasn't
quite ready and the house was still messy and the kids. I had tidy
something like some of the house up. The kids got in and went,
oh, I see you've cleaned this house up, Dad, Well, I
asked Nikola. No, shit took like ten minutes. Boom. I was
just you know, when the house is a mess and you just feel erratic
because your house is a mess, Yes, yeah, it's yeah. The
external situation is reflecting your internal one. Because I've been very relaxed, a
lot more relaxed lately than I have been in recent years, because I tend
to keep the house as clean as possible. And when I walk out Dan,
it's just clean. I'm like, this is nice. You know,
it's nice. And I cleaned up this morning and I walked out there and
the kids just gone. Anyway, they're pouring dirt into the pool. Anyway.
What happened was I opened up my emails on my lunch break and I
saw It's Wicked Wednesday, and I was like, oh, yes, please.
We always got on his podcast about how physical media is dying. But
then when you see you know, two for forty and then an extra ten
percent off on top of that, twenty thirty percent off on top of that,
because there's twenty percent special on top of the two for forty and then
you throw it Actually a week a Wednesday, so this is JB Hi Fi
here and Geelong and I was like, I know, I'm going to go
into the store and I'm going to buy me some physical media today. I
cannot wait. Once we finished recording this podcast, Dando was going to do
this. Guy has already You've already been Oh yeah, guys, like I'm
working today, I can't do the podcast early. Meanwhile, I don't think
that I was Yeah anyway, yeah, because you know it's Wednesday, which
is Dan. Every time he's about to start the store, he's robbery's hands
together. He's so excited. I've got multiple reasons to be excited. I'll
tell you why. First of all, you know Dan, I was saying,
you know, Wednesday is his child free day, you know day,
my childhood free life, every day. The lovely Luise and I went down
to the coastal town of Lawn, Crystal Shire. Yeah, very nice part
of the world. You know. We did a nice look walk along the
beach, had steak for dinner, fell asleep at the stand of the ocean.
It was so lovely last night. It was really nice. It was
very nice. But we had to come back in early. But while we
were down there, we were discussing Christmassy things, including you know who's getting
who for what? You know, we're in the Davis family, there's a
lot of us were Catholic. We do a Chris Kringle kind of dealer.
It's like, okay, we hate the Chris Kringles. Well because my mom's
side, my mum wasn't, but my mum's brother was like Christian and like
they've fallen like very very Christian. Man. They always just did because there's
so many kids, we'll just do a Chris Kringle and I'm like, what
from every word, get one good present? They were good. That was
the problem. I'm sure they went, well, that's if you're a little
if you're a little person, I mean not like a little person as in
listen to our jingle all the Way podcast folk, if little people get ragged
on by guy and everyone. Sorry, not really. They weren't ragged on,
but believe me they won't. If you're a kid, yeah, they
would all get presents. But once you were a grown up, once you
hit eighteen, it's like, okay, you're grown up. You're in the
Chris groom. Now you get one gift from one person, and you buy
one gift for one person, and Lou's family is doing it this year as
well, and I'm like, I don't want to chance this. I'm too
old to give it in crap gifts. So I said to Lou, Okay,
who's buying for me? And who am I buying for? Because so
she know everyone? Yeah, yeah, well she was plowing the names out
of the yes. I said, I want to make sure that I get
what I want, so, you know, don't get me some relative or
I can't say, all right, I want this. She's fixed it.
Yeah, And then I said, just to make sure. Okay, so
the price limit is this, Okay, I'm going to get Oppenheimer on four
K because JB is having a sale and I can get you know, it'll
be just the right price. And then lose saying, oh Lou's got a
fit bit lose very Apple. I am, Samsung, I am, but
I'm like, I'm reaching that age where I think I need to know my
pulse rate at all times, my bi rhythms, all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, it's a wonderful time to be alive that you have a watch
that tells you how well you're sleeping or not in my case, and I'm
like, maybe I should hurry up and join the twenty first centuries. I'm
like, yeah, maybe I'll get one of those. Is it true that
if you jacket, we're in one of those that thinks he's done steps when
you haven't. Let's find out. Tune in in twenty twenty four as yeah,
guy busts a few mites not to mention enough, but as if by
magic, by a wonderful unified theory of forfing a discount coincidence, the email
hits the inbox, having a big sale only Samsung watches was about eight hundred
and fifty dollars down to four hundred and twenty. You add the ten percent
of it's under four hundred dollars. I'm like, wow, loo, I'm
gonna go and tomorrow I'm gonna pick that up. I'm gonna give it to
you. You can wrap it up, give it back to me. I'll
unwrap it. What a thoughtful gift. I'm doing this across the board.
I did this yesterday. You're doing the biggest shit anting grid on your face.
What a wonderful gift. My girlfriend is so thoughtful. But I did
this yesterday as well. I went into Dan Murphy's. I found myself a
nice bottle of single malt whiskey, and I got in touch with my my
brother in law. She's my niece, my nephew in law. I guess
yeah, my sister's daughter's husband is buying from me in the in the Davis
Chris Kringle, I said, Ricky, I'm coming to see you tomorrow with
a bottle of whiskey. It is not for you, it is for me.
Wrap it up and give it to me. Oh, if you've ruined
the surprise, Yes, but I have gained satisfaction in getting exactly what I
want. Some people are very much like opening up their presence. Woll a
new pair of sucks. This is wonderful, thank you, Whereas I'm like,
I've got exactly what I want. That's only because he's sleeping with the
boss. That now, that is part one of Guys' Adventures in Retail,
Part two, and this is an ongoing saga that is about to reach its
wonderful climax. Not unlike when you jacket. We're in the fitbit. Regular
listeners to the show will be aware of guys' adventures in the Amazon where he
purchased a pair of jeans that somewhere got lost. A triple threat, a
triple threat, and I was going for the triple crown of you know,
I got the refund, I got a little extra credit on top of that,
and I don't know, maybe one day the jenes would come to me.
I was not hopeful about the third, but then that damn book arrived.
That book arrived. You know what I wanted. This is not the
this is not the page. I did order this, but at the same
time this is and then I paid for I felt like a sucker. I
had all but given up hope that I was going to get these jeans.
And then last time I'm looking on Amazon, let's just check the order situation,
because it had just been packages left the carrier and that was it,
like this could be anywhere, and then packages landed in New South Wales.
Packages left the New South Wales thing and gone somewhere else. I go onto
another side, gone somewhere else, and I'm like, where where? But
then package arrived in Orlane, nor lane as in geelong as in not far
from my house, go and get it now, and no or just before
I left to come here and record this. I mean, I was almost
going to say, Dana, it's great fun recording with you face to face,
but I've got an email saying this package is going to arrive today.
I'll go and record it and when I go home there'll be a little treat
hopefully. So anyways, Jeff's like they delivered it bad, big daddy,
jazzy jazzy Jeff b give. This is like worthy of like some slow social
media TikTok video. You've give somehow pulled off the impossible. I have him
there, You've got a refund, extra money, and the gift. I
feel like Danny Ocean. So anyway, that's that's. I mean, people
are listening to this car Okay, guy, you bought some stuff and you
actually got it great. Well, I'm like, I'm feeling pretty good about
that by it. They Jeff gave it to you. Jeff gave it.
Jeff pays you for these jeans. That's I got. I got free jeans
and thirty dollars in store credit. Yeah, listen, thirty dollars I thought
it was five dollars extra. No, that was the gift card that I
never got. Oh, I thought was only so you got thirty dollars.
Yeah, the refund and thirty dollars as well. I got sixty dollars refund
and then thirty dollars credit. Holy shit, I paid sixty dollars for a
pair of jeans that is normal about one hundred and sixty. Then I got
that sixty dollars back, and then they gave me another thirty bucks those jeans
for the Chris Kringle. This guy fucking spent one hundred and sixty bucks and
a Chris cre lizays, I'm sure there are someone who out there who have
beat the system in a similar fashion. It's like me in my kfc apack.
That's great, and then they fucked me over and they stopped doing it.
I should just kept it a secret. I know the PEPSI Max think.
I had to work that time as well, and they got in the
machine. Oh that's right, put two dollars in to give you a refund.
That's so good. When you just find little loop and you want to
tell someone, But if I tell someone that it'll spread. And I was
like I had that gone for like three months, and I was like,
what a deal? And I'm like, I'm gonna tell someone, and I
told someone and then it was just that was that was Have you seen there
are new Pepsi Max flavors floating at random amount, like creamy soda one for
like what is now? Really? Yeah, Crimya has been for ages and
the cherry one yeah really yeah. Oh I didn't know that forever. Oh.
I feel like an idiot. I just came up in my socials like
the other day. It's like, I like creamy Suray Pepsi Max. You
know who else likes that? Dann, I'm gonna tell them. It's gonna
make him sad. And of course he's looking at me like you chump.
But that's that's enough adventures in retail and purchasing and scams and funds and whatnot.

you say Z or Z? I tend to say Z. I should say
Z. That's Z for some reason. I don't know why. Anyway,
Well, now we're going to start doing the whole garage garage thing. Yeah,
let's do that. That's not we'll We'll never talk about yocal cords.
My favorite mister davis favorite moment's from this episode because I had several. As
I mentioned, everybody hates Andy Dick. That was good fun. I just
love the little sometime bit. He looks so happy to be there and be
happy to well, first of all, give the kids a really, you
know, excellent song with themes and motifs and all the team most known for
look, he wrote a bunch of stuff for Broadway, not Cats, Not
Cats. However, now he's not an Andrew Lloyd Webber kind of guy for
some reason. As someone who grew up in the nineties, Andrew Lloyd Webber
apparently he was like a huge success because he was the arch nemesis of mister
Sheffield on The Nanny Oh. He was always compared to like Andrew Lober h
Andrew Lloyd Webber's got the new He'd passed on something and Andrew Loyd web if
it would take it, and then he'd become a success as a Levandro was
the fan of the opera. Yeah did they delay miss I'm not too sure,
but I'm pretty sure like cats used to always get ship on the Nanny.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure, like probably. I
mean, it's it was incredibly popular and it's still sort of going to this
day. The film was terrible, right, film was absolutely That's what I'm
thinking of. Yeah, And I mean I remember seeing a production of Cats
here in Geelong about ten to fifteen years ago, and I don't think I've
ever seen this. It's kind of garbage. You know. There's just a
bunch of people in cat outfits sort of prancing around and saying I've got multiple
names and you've never seen it? Okay, didna? I don't. It's
kind of shit. The Star Wars Christmas Special. Never watch it? Never?
Well, we could do a commentary of it. Oh, that's right,
we did say that. I think we were talking about if we like
get massive, I really draw an influx or something, Well, we'll post
a thing about it. Because I rewatched the first twenty minutes of it the
other day just to get a sort of a bit of a flashback, and
I was like, oh, boy, guy, but you were right though.
Harrison Ford is in a lot a lot of it, and he's like,
it's a mini little story. Yeah, like him and Schewbaco are Giant
fining the Millennium Falcon and shit they are bros. Yeah, but yeah,
what else did you enjoy for this episode? Yeah? Yeah, just going
on about some Time. Yeah, I mean, he's kind of I think
he's kind of regarded as one of the guys who really legitimized Broadway musical theater.
I don't know a whole lot about him, but he passed away a
few years ago, and there's this great docco for Austraians. It's on Foxtel
or on Binge called six By some Time, and it sort of gives you
an indication to his life and his art and all that kind of stuff.
And he just seemed like a really cool dude. Very he was. He
was a big fan of Parker and Stone. Oh wow. He wrote to
them when they did either Team America or Bigger Longer and un Captain and said,
do you guys really know how to do this? And I think they
returned the favor because they did. I think you may have mentioned this.
Yeah, they did a bunch of sometimes stuff and like I think there was
an episode where Randy was going to a bar and it was like a typical
sort of sports bar full of bros. Except they're all sort of reciting sometimes
lyrics saw each other like but being really dudish about it, and it was
very very funny. But yeah, sometimes I think Rode Parker and Sown and
said, yeah, you guys are legitimately good at this. So if you
want to collaborate on something, let me know, which is kind of like
being touched by God if you if you write musical theater or you write musical
cabaret. So just the way they presented him in this, and I get
the feeling this is how song I might actually be in real life. You
just have to be like, you know, he gets the no peppy vamp,
but he's like this peppy vamps actually pretty. I should write it,
but I should ride that buzz colored with Lemon weird Lemon. That's it.
I just so gold was I just had the porter that was so good it
made me very happy. Lemon Lemon. That was great. There's so many
great moments in this. I thought there really were. I'm going to let
you tell talk about most of them, but I think the thing that I
probably enjoyed the most would be the whole dark Stanley animated son. How it's
awesome. Was that that was Monkey's music playing, well, Monkey's music playing,
which is really creepy, unsettling music and fit this perfectly, fit magnificently.
But the animation style was I should have looked up. I don't know
if it's a direct reference to anything or if it's in the style of anyone
in particular. So the musical number that plays during Bart's telling of Dark Stanley
is Sweet Punta or Punta del Esta, a song composed by Argentine composer Astor
Piazzola. The song is also fettioned the movie Twelve Monkeys. There's nothing about
the visuals, but it looks I kind of get like coraling vibes from it
a bit like that, Yeah, yeah, Or it looks too specific,
doesn't It does? Very yeah, very individual style thinking for some reason.
You know, the books where the wild Things are and in the kitchen bits
of Maurice Sendak sketchy. Yeah, but I just sort of looked horrifying it
did. And I just love the legend of us ghost story, you know,
it's really good. We're talking about on the Fog review that we did
starting off with the ghost stories, Like what better way to set up a
horror movie than a fucking ghost story. Correct, and like Bart is telling,
I'm just like and the legends sort of growing in the school yard.
I'm like, this is exactly what happens. Fantastic. So they were my
favorite, my main favorite bits from Yoca Gords. I'm sure there were gonna
others that are gonna come up as we talk with it. I can't believe
you didn't mention the kitchen contact lenses. It was I just thought there were
so many gags that just felt like I was watching classic Simpsons, but that,
for example, just felt like some Australias like season four. Also the
lead after that, it's like I've heard about people like you. No,
I mean a joker. That's all right, very good, very very good.
I'll hear the animation of Bart story. Oh my god, how fucking
good was she? Like this guy loves the act. I was like,
oh shit, this is awesome. It's a great work around for that kind
of Yeah, this guy loves the acts. You'll bring Marchie super leader.
It was so funny, like, how can we put on racist accents and
get away with it? How you do it? I just loot this what
this episode did it's like a theme of going against stereotype. So like the
usual Simpsons episode will play up the hill billy kleaders and that's the that's the
gag. Rise a sort of spun it and put turn it on its head
in this one. Here a game with the hello mister Simpson. Right,
It's like normally the Simpsons would just have that character doing that voice. Here
they gave a reason for doing it and turn it back on Homer. Yeah,
and then did you get his wallet? You're drinking too many scorpion bold
trivia question gone and yeah, I just really enjoy The two meta gags that
stood out to me were the what we discussed about the shell perpetuates all yokles
the Hicks, and Bart saying you had a dream of his family being cartoons
that were out build up the propaganda network of Fox. Next question, you
there eating the beast? All right, mister Davis, it is trivia time.
Hit me with your first question because you've stolen Oh sorry about that,
but I've got a few here. As is often the case, I come
out of the gate quick with the trivia questions, like usually from the first
first act five minutes or something. Try to space them out. Yeah.
Having said that, what actually is the James Patterson novel that Marge is reading
on the beach? Is it a nursery rhyme theme? It is Kiss the
Girl, Kiss the Girls, okay, made into a movie starring Morgan Freeman.
What was the one that they think of? Does Marchmont with a name?
She does? She comes up with a little bow peep. Yes,
all the clue could be the ship. My first question for you is how
often did snake used to rob a pooh o three or four times? Or
week two or three? Two or three times? Which is another funny scene
if now it's like once a month and he doesn't really it's just there.
It doesn't initiate it. In the picture of Lisa's sandwich, what kind of
bread is the sandwich made out of? It? In the pitch ah,
what kind of bread is it? Wonder bread? It is sour though square,
wonderbread? All right? Which child of cleatuses wore the potato sack?
Birthday? Birthday? How many? How short of an mit degree? Was
dark? Stanley? Not sure? What was it? Something? Is there
five in there somewhere? Two credits short degree or something like that, but
two credits? But I watched this and I was like, I don't think
i'd let Elliot and Holly watch this. It's actually very spooky. Oh that
bit. Yeah, absolutely, I was like, this is scary shit.
Well, when I was putting together new names and the new names and the
mail bag post for the patrons, I was looking I mean because I didn't
really remember this episode, but I was looking imagined i've ever watched it.
Apologies to Michael Price, because I basically used to see this as a Cletus
episode and went, I'm not going to enjoy It's gonna be one of those
new ones that they just kind of like when they told me book guy and
they fleshed around like I don't need that. It's not really bad Cletus at
all. No, no man loved it anyway. Continue, Yes, yes,
I was putting together the selecting the images to go with the new names
and the mail band. Yes, for the patrons, I saw these images
that, yeah, from the dark Stanley store, and I'm like, what
the hell is going on here? And then I was pleasantly surprised when I
watched the episode. All Right, is it time for you to hit me
with a question. I'm done, I'm going through all mine hit me with
a couple more though, all right, I can give you two more you
like, let's do it. What is only coffee mug that Homer gives Marge
in the morning? Oh not World's best mum, world best husband? Smiley
face, smiley face? Okay? Was it like the Forrest Gump smiley face?
It was? Yeah? Okay, yeah. And my last question to
you, what are Skinner and Charmers going to? Well orders? The value
of the gift card that charmers five five dollars? Yes, I also really
enjoyed the band between them two and this one as well. I'm gonna see
us so much to enjoy in this there was I'm not going to skip ahead.
Let's just run through the episode'll run through. Let's do it. Let's
start a review of skip ahead. But let's just skip ahead and do the
whole the whole thing. Yes. So. The original edit of Yuko Chords
was March fourth, two thousand and seven. It was written by Michael Price
and directed by Susie Dietter, who's a fantastic director of the Simpsons, and
she's done a great job here, as we said. Guest appearances from Meg
Ryan as doctor Swanson, Andy Dick, James Patterson, Stephen Sondheim, and
Peter how do you say his name? Bogdanovich Bogdanovich Bogdanovich as the psychiatrist Cash
gag was a good one as well. It was I was like, how
could it be as a kid finding a vending machine for action figures? Well,
yeah, awesome. Anyway, So the episode starts off with Marge and
she's on the beach. You realize how many of those would get stuck if
a Mars bar gets stuck. Imagine what like a turboman have to be specially
designed? I think so yes. But by the way, tune into our
jingle all the way movie guys by that's coming soon. Marge is reading a
well plotted mystery on the beach, written by one James Patterson. That is
a bit of a joy in life, just reading a good a good mystery
on the beach. Well, I'm looking at they've got some books over there.
So I've got one on the ashes, I've got sign Faudia and Joel
Salwood book and I'm like, one day I'm going to do no work.
I'm going to fucking lay here. I'm just going to read these books.
Absolutely. It sounds like heaven to me. But yeah. So then he
arrives and he says, you know, you up some more nursery rhyme themed
titles for my thrillers. And she says, little boat, I thought a
little bow peak. It must be a little bo peak. It's a little
bit peak. We better peeking behind the door anyway, And then he's about
to spooch her, but he face turns into his alarm clock. Yes,
it was a nice vision, Yes it was, Yeah, Susie, good
stuff. Yeah, well then well done. Yeah, and she's overslapt.
The family can't start the day without me. But Homer's got his shit together
kind of at least expect that. He's tried. I mean not well,
but like he's like Marge's sleeping. I've got this. It's these days we'll
take home a trying readers. He did not have it. Relax, baby,
Well, you were dreaming of me and calling me James. I took
care of everything. You woke up. Roy stumbled home at dawn, same
dip. I don't worry. I picked everyone's lunches and sent them off into
the world. What kind of lunch is this? I drying? IM a
sandwich. I've got Grandplas medication. Pull over, You're not the driver.
Shut up, be chuic, I gotta delivery, but then tries he decides,
well, look, everyone else has got lunch. I'm gonna be hungry.
What I'll do is I'll scare up a lunch, and he tells the
story about the anniversary of Ducks or the Dark Stanley murders, and how awesome
was the payoff as well for this story. It wasn't just something that but
made up the psychiatrist at the end, I know Dark Stanley twist. I
really enjoyed this episode. In case you had went away by the way,
I would have gone straight for UTA's sandwich. Oh the sub one. Yeah,
it looks delicious, didn't it look nice? Yeah? How often did
you get a good lunch at school? My favorite was when we would have
a lamb roast the night before leftovers and there'd be a bit of a bit
of lamb leftover my gravy sandwich and would put it in bread and I'd have
the cold lamb with tomato sauce. Tomato sauce. Good, It's really nice.
Okay, Yeah, isn't it awesome when you've got something look forward to
for lunch and it makes the morning so awesome when you're at work, like,
oh, I got to cut way for lunchtime during research, but you
do it anyway. Elliott's school has this new thing. I've never heard of
it before, and it blew me away. They have lunch. They eat
the lunch after their lunch break. That's mind boggling, right what I'm sitting
there. That sounds like diy tax. And they're like any questions and I
was like, can you explain why they eat after the break? And he
goes because basically what would happen is at primary schools used to be that you
would get ten minutes eating time and go out and play. Yes, the
kids were so eager to go out and play, they wouldn't concentrate on eating.
They'd be planning what they're gonna do at lunch time, and half their
foo would get thrown in the bin. We find it if they just go
out and play, get it all out of their system, come back in.
They then focus and eat their whole lunch. I was like, checks
out and they're probably full of food and under sedated. Yeah. Yeah,
So basically it's like they go get their energy out and then they're hungry.
They because they've been getting their energy out there. Therefore hungry, they eat
all their lunch and then they're ready to learn. It sounds like they were
pulling a guy scam whereby they check out for lunch and then they actually eat
lunch. But I just thought it was odd. Yeah, I was like
eating the educators know what's up. Yeah, but it makes sense. But
still, if I was a score, like I want to eat my fucking
lamb and smartest sauce sandwich, now make me go play. Sometimes Mum would
drop off macas it was the best. Oh my god. But it's like
eventually got to the point where if you had takeaway brought in, like fast
food, you have to eat it somewhere else to not make the other kids
feel bad. That makes sense. You can you can keep bringing me Donald's,
but he's got to eat it in them. Hey, guys, remember
to stick together. Today is the anniversary of the dark Stanley murders. Oh
you know, all right, Imagine I'm holding a flashlight under my face.
Years ago, Stanley Degrute was a cook here at the school. All the
kids made fun of him because he never graduated from college. Stanley Dany no
degree creditoria, And one day Stanley picked up a cleaver and put a new
entree on the menu, a delectable little dish called kids Heads Soup Needs More
Girl? What happened? A dark damn? They hanged him from murder and
buried him in an onmarked grave. When they came back the next day,
the whole cemetery was missing. Use your imagination. I could a flash light
under my face. I do it now to the kids, right. They
love it. It's like the highlight of their night. They turn the lights
off to and I go. They love getting spooked. Like I said,
I took the kids on the ghost train. They love. Ally's like,
okay, I want to go on the ghost train. I'm like, you
were scared. He's like, I want to go on it again. Though,
I'm like, I like it. Good one, And I loved all
the stuff that came out in the in the Dark Stanley story. You know
how it's sort of perpetuated. I don't know if it was bart who mentioned
Soup of Sorrow. I thought that was a great It was set at some
point, yeah, yeah, but then Millhouse takes it and runs with you.
It makes your skull into a toilet, well ship Jesus injury to insult,
and then it's like Nelston says something that uses your skin. He makes
your skin into footy pajer. Yes, and watching that in Australia, we're
like, oh, like with Joel Sellwood on them or something or with it
with it was like oh no, Butja was with feet but you know kids
heads stooped, and I was like, Aliott and Holly cannot watch this.
No, they would have genuine nightmares. I reckon if they watch that little
bit, they like the spooky stuff. But yeah, you've got to set
some boundaries. I felt like I was watching a treeouse of horror story.
I felt like you're watching more than it beyond the tree that might be too
spooky the treehouse and then like what happened to him? He got hanged for
murder and burn and I'm much grave the next day the whole cemetery. He
tells a good spooky story. He does. Yeah, as you were saying
that, the story spreads throughout the school, and I just love that when
the legend just gets retold and just changes each time. Yeah, like Chinese
not Chinese whispers, just whispers what's it called now? Such Chinese whispers.
That's something else we'll find out careless whisper possibly, But but then fakes his
own death in the cafeteria. Nothing better than like a good turn the light
out and he eats everyone else's lunch because timing is everything, telling his story
at the right time, pulling that stunt, and one ran out. They
left their lunch behind millhouse, runs off, screaming, Murtha, was that
meant to be like a play with your mother and murder? I guess so?
Yeah. I wasn't quite sure about that one. But then this is
like so cliche and obvious. But Chalmers and Skinner walking in with these antique
colone bottles. I assume they're irreplaceable. You assume correct, You know what's
happening, but like it just it felt like classic Skinner and Chalmers. Well,
Timar, I certainly appreciate you letting me store my collection of antique cologne
bottles in your office while they recarpet my condo. It's quite a collection,
and I assume they irreplaceable. Now you assume correct? Seymour, Gary Hm
Simpson, I know you're behind this. Well, you are going to get
some counseling from our school psychologist. Don't stand he's gonna eat my breads or
from a qualified professional. And then he sends Abillity to go round up the
kids alive, not dead. He never lets Willy be willy, and then
he sort of Old West style, gathers them all up, brings them back,
and they realize that the Spuckler kids, he's grabbed them as well.
But they don't go to the school. They get homeschooled. We get clear
as being cleared. I teach the big ones, and the big ones teach
the little ones. Anyway. I didn't mind that. So the whole things
and exercise and futility, it's not bad. But they say the reason that
they're not in the schools because they're bringing the scores down. And Lisa's there
from the newspaper, purposely denying education to these children. We can for all
that was funny. We can do this. We can from for all day.
It was perfect. This is really good, Lisa Sampson with the school
paper. Am I to understand your purposely denying education to these children too?
I mean you see the thing is I warn you, young lady. We
can from for all day. We see it's not that you're not grasping the
you haven't heard the last of this? Well, I think we've heard the
last. No, you haven't. That's skins and chimas. Then sing a
song because for fun? How can we How can we stop this girl?
Let's sing? It make us fun more enjoyable. Singing songs makes everything more
enjoyable. And we gotta feed this episode. I want it going. Oh
it's a musical one. Oh yay, Look it's been a great first actor.
That's a musical and it's basically or how can we take down the up
top Lisa? And how can we stop it from complaining? We're gonna have
to give this some thought. Let's sing, well, we think it'll make
it more fun for everyone. How do we gag a blab her mouth like
Lisa? How do we crush her first met ride? How do we stop
riding up? What she saw? But she shot her trap for a gift
card from the gap she might? Oh? How do we stop the royal
man? Like Lisa? How do we miss right just last? You have
a lovely voice? Sir? Where do you have to make everything weird?
Skinn calls Lady to his office and they suggest that she becomes a tutor for
Clitics's children. I was like, can you suggest an eight year old to
be a tutor? I'm not too sure about this. It's what I'm gone
with it because the first act was fun Nah hill Billy tug reab time night
toties. I can'ts the plowm you none birth to girl, critter, young'uns,
that's here. Girl has come from fairy land to school. Y'all.
Now, if you made me, I'll be on the parts. Drink in
Thompson's water sale. My name's Lisa. What are your names? Waitney,
Jitney, w Incest, Crystal mad International Harvester. First time? Are we
gonna do this much work every day? Then Homer is taking Bart to the
psychiatrist and the school is paying for five sessions. And he likes this because
the Chinese restaurant is nearby where he can get drunk. And as I said,
Sheila, this guy loves the act. Get ready to Shila. This
guy likes the act. Mister Simpson, you're good man. We happy to
see you. You not come long time? Come see drinking drinky? Where's
Margie? She's super lady. But then the psychiatrist doctor Swanson. She suggests
that they played video games. She's got DK C two DK. Well,
is it death Kill City to death Kill Stories? Yes, and it's rayed
bad for everybody. Did Bart refer to something as a half full of craps
or along the line here? I thought that was quite good? Maybe,
but I just remember you destroyed all human life on Earth level one complete?
And Lisa, basically the doctor or the psychiatrist, is taking notes. What's
going on here? Lisa is teaching and this is how a president as your
videos overridden and they ask, how is this going to put dog food on
my plate? A very valid question. Sometimes you're school like this math ship.
Yeah, excuse why do I need to know this? And I watched
numbers now and I'm like, I get that this guy uses numbers to solve
shit. Oh you're talking about the procedural number. Yes, I'm watching numbers.
When we record this, Daniel was right next to a calendar. I'm
just picturing him sitting and looking at her. Wow eight my favorite. But
yeah, and he's just like, you know, we use numbers for everything.
I'm just like you might, but I don't how long ago did that
come out? Because I mentioned Oppenheimer and earlier the guy from Numbers is in
Oppenheimer? Now is he the guy? And I get the feeling when he
got Numbers, he's kind of like, you're gonna be at the start of
this cool procedure. You're going to be the cool maths detective. And he
lost a whole heap of weight and you gotta got a cool haircut. And
you look at me to be a fat did he in? He was in
a really great, great show that I like called The Deuce, And I
don't know if he because he wasn't fat and he's not fat Numbers. No,
No, he got really lean and he's wearing cool clothes and all that
kind of stuff. And you look at him in the Oppenheimer and the other
show and it's like, oh, you're like a jolly fat man. David.
He had good actor. Didn't really pass away, you got a cancer
or something. He did put weight on. Yeah. See that's the thing
I mean. I'm I feel kind of uious saying that story or pointing that
out because he may well have been unwell and this could have been reaction to
and he treating them that he had, yeah, illness, but he I
know him from the sand Carse movies. That's right, Yeah, something else
or whatever. Yeah, and he was in Ten Things I Hate About You?
Was he really? Yeah? I think he's been a bunch of Judd
Apatow stuff. Good actor, yeah, really solid dramatic actor, but a
very very funny actor as well. Yeah. I'm we really enjoying the show.
Your numbers ain't bad. It's the same shit every week. But whatever.
You're like, you've got to have a show. Yeah, Okay,
Nicol and I, you know, sometimes got phones in our hand to eat
and dinner or whatever. It's like it's on. It's like you don't have
to be every single bit to get out. That's correct. Yeah, I
mean, well, as we said, there are it's it's the TV equivalent
of sitting on the beach reading a James Patterson. Yes, exactly right.
Yeah, I'm just sorry. I was just reading here. On the Michael
price wiki page, he also wrote the Lego Star Wars special, well what
a man Pricey? Not the Star Wars Christmas Special. Well, I don't
think anyone wrote. I think that is like cameras on let's see what happens,
make a noise? Pretty much what it is A ten minutes and so
I made a mistake. It's Chee back, his son and his wife.
Oh, it's like it's his actual family. It's called Stumpy or something like
that. Yeah, it's a Stumpy. It's weird. I just want to
have Arthur Fitz into it. Yeah, I'm really curious about it. Yeah,
she's the bartender at the cantina. Oh wow, they don't like your
kind in here. No, we don't let that kind. I feel like
maybe I should just rewatch Star Wars the original. Yeah, the original.
We'll talk about that. Yes, Maybempire strikes uncle. No, we're talking
about yesterday. It's like, have you ever watched the new ones? And
he's like, I'm like, I don't think i've ever. I walked out
before the new one, like the last one, Ros'skull even finished at the
cinema, was like, I'm just done. I don't care, and I've
never got back. I don't even know how it ends. I know that
he is her grandfather or something if I'm just like, what are we going?
What? Ah? No? But the first two though, it's like
I can put those on the first three. If three not so much,
but the first two you can put them on any time and you'll enjoy it
absolutely. The fac like, I've got to be in the right mood to
give the prequels a go, and I usually get like fifteen twenty minutes and
I'm like, h I tried, but the first three you're just like absolutely
amazing. Can't beat them. Let's maybe we'lluggested for the movie Guys. Good
idea. Yes, but by the way, the theme for January's movie Guys
is Water's and Guys just the film that he really hopes gets selected. I
did because well, when we recorded the other night, when it was Dano
and Mitch and I all in the same room, Mitch broad beers that was
very nice, and Dano hits us with yeah, by the way, the
next thing is water and I hadn't paid attention and I got think of anything,
and Mitch had two good ones. You had some pretty good ones.
Let di Mitch have again. Witch had point break in the Abyss. That's
right. Yeah. I went with Jaws, and you usually suggested Jaws.
Yeah, but then I know how much I loved Jewels. I was like
and down periscope, yes, And I went with the Shallows, and I
was like, and to be determined, and last night I actually started texting
you like one in the morning. I wasn't again. Then I was like,
I'll do this tomorrow and then but my second sggestion is the nineteen ninety
eight sea monster mash Deep Rising, one of guys all time, Tack,
I've never seen it O synopsis and I was like, hell, have I
never heard of this movie? It's on Disney Plus, so yeah, Bomley's
check it out. Wit are back, We're back. The County Fair is
always sucky to visit. On a hot summer fight. You can eat delicious
cotton hate and ride the Fairest and the Merry Go Booger. Oh you can't
make that stuff up. What does this tell you? Bart? That this
is one terrible County Fair? And and my dad never takes me on the
Merry Go Booger. He's always passed out in the parking snot he's flying.
Well, you drink too money, scorpion ball you got stippy slipping? Now?
Did you? Uh? Do you get his wife? Every president has
a word balloon that says I Am gay. That's always like, it's a
quite a Michael, you got to put a gay gig in there. I
think this is like the least this is the least offensive gig one they've had
so far. It's more a rip on Homer than is anything else. There's
a lot of bad Homer in this episode as well. He starts starts off,
well, yeah, that's you know, all the stuff with the with
the Chinese restaurant, and later when he's on the couch doing all that shit,
it's like, yeah, not really needed? Is it unnecessary? No?
But although it does give us the Chinese couple, which was worth it.
I didn't join the Chinese couple, that's correct. The Sparkler kids are
now being taken to downtown Springfield by Lisa, and it's supposed to play on
their favorite Things song, and Lisa says their minds are opening. They're experiencing
culture and multiculture and they think that none of the culture seems lame now that
they used to. And then Krusty's very impressed by what he sees and he
is all the singing, what a number you kids got talent? And I
should know I used to have it. Hi, you're one of those funny
people with a big crazy nose, A clown, no, a joker.
That's right, And I'm not a practicing joker, so I'm not that offended.
Well, it's nice to see again, Christy. But these kids have
field trip journals to write. Yeah, yeah, right, who's your agent?
What's an agent? Got churing? Finally I get a chance to use
these gag contact lenses for me. I just did not expect that. I
was like, oh, thank you, Well, you explained it very well.
But Bart says he had a dream that his family were all cartoon characters
that help build out the propaganda network that his Fox News. And fortunately though,
they've only paid for five sessions, so he's not that. You know,
she has to cancel or just say no more sessions going forward. And
its almost like he's been broken up with. He used to rub me two
three times a week. No, I'm lucky if I get it once a
month. He never initiates it. I have to do all the work.
He just stands there. Now now, don't talk through him, talk to
him. Oh pooh. Sometimes when I rob you, it's like you're not
even there. That just because you're rubbing my brother Sanjay, dude, I
didn't know. I just shut up. That's one of the most racist thing
they've ever said on this show. But again, you know, poking out
at the white folks. Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's bad. I'm
just like everything was done in such a clever way around, Like it's not
just being racist. It's like making Snake the idiot for not knowing, you
know, it's all pointing it back. But then Krussy tells Cletus that you're
gonna be getting scale if it tends to read the contract signs it at least
interrupts Teeny get her out of here. Teeny takes her out, and then
they're recording promos for all the affiliates, and I was like, so many
kids have probably been put through. This reminded me of like the contestants of
like American Idol. It's like, you know, for six months you're a
star, read all these fucking promos for the affiliates and the sponsors, and
shit, good out next kids. It's it's really tough. I mean,
not that I do this anyway, but I mean I imagine it'll be really
tough sort of watching Nickelodeon shows or Disney Channel shows now, just knowing that
these kids have just been put through. Yeah, the ringer in so many
ways. Amanda Bynes oh god, Yeah, yeah. I mean Drake was
in Drake something, Drake Bell. I think that was that show. He
was Drake and Josh, Drake and Josh. But yeah, another show,
I'm pretty sure. Yeah yeah. But a lot of them now just off
the rails. Yeah yeah, I mean Hillary Duftum well for herself though,
there's one I think the Jeanette McCurdy she was on like I think she co
started with like I've forgotten who, but she was. She was like a
child star or something. She's written this memoir apparently really well regarded with the
great title I'm Glad my Mum is de Wow, because basically her mum just
pushed her into her child started and just kept going, going, going,
and put her into all these you know, really harsh situations, sometimes kind
of dangerous situations, and yeah, basically just to either feed her own ego
or line her own pockets. So the best revenge of just writing a memoir
saying I'm glad my mum is dead. I mean it's just not quite as
simple as that. I mean, she's conflicted feelings about it. I mean
that's the title, it's the title. Yeah, yeah, but she's got
kind of conflicted feelings about it, but she's also, yeah, she kind
of did a lot of bad hit. Yeah. As Krusty yells at them
for getting it wrong, I don't think they really got it wrong. No,
But Lisa sees this and she's that's the point though. It's like these
kids have done nothing wrong and there's getting abused for it. They're by their
agent and Lisa's sad watching it through the window. Crust then introduces them as
the smashing Bumpkins, the singing Spuckler kids, and I love that. Whilst
they're singing, he's just off at the back's reading in news paper. He's
just profiting off them, and it ends if you're better than us. So
they're playing up the whole where Hillbilly's and that's the kind of shtick the planet
was there times. Hammer laughs at them, So I know what that's what
he's going for. His home is the idiot, you know what I mean.
But it's like it just came across like it was just a real jerk,
didn't it. Absolute little bit too dumb. Look at those dumb Hillbillies.
Oh bet they don't even know what something is Dad. Those kids aren't
dumb. This show just perpetuates the stereotype that all yokels are hecks. Look
at those morons they sing because they're stupid. But then missus his therapy,
you know, he's he walks by his millhouse in there and he reads the
article I think in the paper. Was it in the magazine there's some psychiatry
today magazine? Yeah, Then he sees the Chinese man having an affair.
I was like wow. But then Krusty introduces to the kids who mister Davis
Stephens sometimes. Yeah, he's gonna He's written a little jingle for him,
I believe is correct? Is it in a jingle? Or he gets back
into writing jingles after he plays the He's written them like a nice pey song
for their thing. And yeah, tell you what, just give me a
peppy vamp okay, and I can counterpoint it with no counterpoint vamp peppy.
Hey, this peppy stuff isn't bad. Maybe I will write that jingle for
buzz Coler President Tola. Everyone loves new buzz Coller with lemon with lemon.
From presidents to Ayatola, everybody loves buzz Colon with lemon. Very good stuff.
I hope he wrote that. I hope I think he did, yeah,
because it's in the credits, like I think it might be called like
the Ballad of Buzz Colar Oh, and he wrote it. I think,
so that's so good because I was I was letting the credits run after I
saw the case, and it's like, oh, written by not all the
songs are written by sometimes, but I think that one. Okay, with
Lemon, I'm gonna have to go home just where he watched that. But
I was looking for it on YouTube because I just I wanted to get the
with Lemon right, because it's a really distinctive little melody anyway, But yeah,
it's so much fun this is But Lisa arrives and they've missed their reading
class. Clear just doesn't care that though he's the manager and he's making a
lot of money for himself, he's spending all the money on himself, including
a solid gold hound dog. Is he going to dress like kid Rock at
this stage? It's just as to me like the pimp from Homer versus New
York City. Ah, but is now having fake therapy sessions with himself,
which is kind of concerning a little bit. But you know, he misses
doctor Swanson. March sees this, and she I liked her that she's used
the money that she saved up papers on Bartney's this. But there's another great
line coming up in just the moment. So she goes to see doctor Swans
and she saved this money form's breast reduction surgery. But she gives it all
to the doctor. It's all they can have fought for. Now, when
you're older, you can pay some lady to make you happy for an hour.
Oh, I probably will. And I wasn't planned. So when I
came, my parents had to get married and they were too young and not
ready for a kid to screw up their lives. Maybe I act out because
if my parents are mad at me, they can't fight with each other.
His parents weren't ready to have kids yet. I was like, that is
very real. That's very perceptive. Yeah, but it's like it's not funny.
But it's like I don't dislike it either. No, I mean,
I would not necessarily that that's canon, but you know, like, oh
it makes a lot of sense. Yeah, yeah, so I folded in
by all means, But I mean, and I didn't think it was unfunny
that you know, but oh and yeah, I'd use the name Stanley because
that's the kind of hammer that Dad used to hit me with. I'm like,
okay, that's I didn't need that didn't need no, no, no.
I mean we've talked about how, you know, the choking is just
it's so sort of outlandish. So many people were angry when they read articles
about how they've stopped the choking gag now right, and the two things they
haven't actually okay, they just didn't do it anymore because it doesn't matter.
And as we've discussed on this podcast, where a season eighteen and it's well
passes used by date and these people complaining don't want you show anymore anyway.
It's like the glory days were because I'm a choked, bad fuck off.
Political correctness gone wrong? Chop. Why does he have to check bond?
It's but silly, it was necessary. It was never like the best gag.
I never laughed at it. But then he leaves. He's fine,
now, he settled, he realizes what's going on, so he leaves twenty
minutes early. Now she said, what a great spin, very good bart.
We have twenty minutes left. Is there anything else you want to talk
about? You know, what I think. I'm good? Oh well,
good good good will Will I see you again? Anything could happen. One
of these days I might have a complete psychotic breakdown. I'd like that.
I just can't stop thinking about him. Do you think maybe Bart is replacing
your son who was killed by dark Stanley? Oh? Oh oh, I
am not ready to go there. What a twist. It was a good
twist. It was like it was like James Patterson Murder Mystery. Ah,
it all came together. Well, then the Sparklers are signing eight by tens
and the top five different dry cleaners that they're the best. Ain't that line?
But crust because you can be living on this bus as part of the
No Color Comedy Tour, including Butt crack Berry, merl Values Moral Values,
Moral moral value, Yeah yeah, Reverend Racist and Andy Dick his Blue Colic
because his dad owns a shovel. I can't laugh at anything Andy Dick says,
because just by proxy, I just don't want to. Yes, even
when he's poking fun of himself, I'm like, we're boycotting laughs. His
history's biggest monster. Do they say that that is? It's the Jimmy car.
Jimmy Carter right, which has just become more and more of a good
gager is because he's just saintly. It's becoming increasingly more so. Missus Carter
passed away recently, Rosalind Carter rest in peace, Rosalind Carton. But Cleidis
now has a monster truck and Lisa arrives in a helicopter and I was like,
what the fuck is O my brand is I don't even realize she was
missing, But this kind of I'm willing to go with it. Yeah,
I mean it made me. I think one of the reasons, Like as
I said at the start, I think one of the reason we enjoyed this
episode not so much clean this and Brandian and now we know why Brandan wasn't
there, and yeah, but it does scan the tribul yeah of fighting in
one of America's forever war was just to put a little bread on the table.
I'm trying to stop nine to eleven, That's what says. But I
just I just like the fact that he explained because you could have just left
branding out, it really would have really mattered. I don't think that.
But it's also a great out yes, yeah plot speaking at the end,
it's like these only can't take only two of these kids and they were the
ones that suck. Yeah, I guess you needed her to be away so
that could work. I guess yeah, it makes sense. Yeah, because
I'm the father to ye A lip So. Then they all think Lisa and
give her a big hug, and I was like, this is this is
I can't believe this wholesome? What is happening? Like, where are they
going to suck it up? Oh? They don't suck it up. They
didn't. It was nearly a false or misstep in this episode. They still
crusty ten thousand dollars. We can live on that. Then the honeymoon is
theme plays and this pans up and we got clear us his face on the
moon and how sweet it is, and that's the end. I was like,
holy shit, what a good episode. Well done, Well done,
Michael Price, and well done. I'm sorry, remind me of the director's
name place Susie did? Yes? Well, iconic Simpsons director. Indeed?
Yes, But as I said, Michael will be coming on the show early
next year. It's looking for that. What do we learn bomb? All
right, mister Davis, what did you learn from this episode? Maybe I'm
just ignorant. Have been paying attention, but I had no idea. So
I learned it this episode that Gary was super intended charms first name. I
think it's the first time they mentioned it. Yeah, that's what I learned
this episode. I learned that everything is better with lemon. Oh, he's
found my funny moe. He knows how to just a But you can't just
say you've got to do the little piano. Well, that's doing Jay's hands.
What are you targeting about? Forward? Your names will be all right,
new names, mister Davis. The current leader board stands at this four
season eighteen. In first position, we have Philip J. Hawkins on sixteen
points. We have Kyle muldoon and Luke McKay both on eleven points. In
second position. All right, take it away, all right. One point
goes to Shillbillies. That would be David mott putting him now on four points.
Weld on, David Motski, well done. Two points for Cities Spucklers.
Not bad. That's a man from the factory. Steve Roberts operate in
that heavy machinery. He's now on six points. Well on Steve, six
points. As many fingers as Steve has left after after being on zoom calls
instead of paying attention to the heavy machinery, and three points goes to the
sound of news. Hicck. I love this. You know why why?
It's a newbie to the Lean Award. Oh for real, Yeah, it's
Hamish Wilson. Well done, Hamish, Hamish. There we go. So
we've got a newbie to the leader board, which means that Philip J Kyle
maul Dune and let McKay they haven't stretched that lead away so people are just
getting close. Oh it's like that he's gaming us with the golf clubs.
I'm going to put up a meme closer to the end of this year,
thinking of it today. It's been done before, but I'm going to put
a new spin on it. Basically, I'm going to have twenty nine year
olds and the end of this year and then twenty twenty four. Because once
you hear thirty, you feel like I'm getting it old now. Now I
forgot I was thirty five. I'm at that point in my life now where
I forgot how old I was. Oh yea, I was fucking certain old
thirty four and I was like thirty five. Holy shit, it's a year
ago. What happened? It's really bracing when you've got to take a second.
Oh, I'm fifty whatever. I actually I was certain old thirty four
and then nigga, no, you're thirty five, I'm thirty five. I'm
like, what, oh fuck I am? It was startling. Just say.
At least Dana's very proud of his memes these days, un justifiably.
So I got a message from him last I was telling you about this last
week. I made this. I tell you, I'm going to make this
me. I finally made it for you. I'm very proud of going to
put it on the fridge is here, So it's time for the mail bag
with the Davis for Yoko. Course, I love the pitchure you've got here,
the Kid's head soup in the patron group. It's just terrifying to look
at it is you hear that music. Then our newest stonecutter, Josh Hally,
is the first question here. What do you consider to be the best
Simpsons game? We don't play many games, do you The best Simpsons game?
Of course is Simpsons Hit and Run. That aside, what am we
gonna say? Simpsons Arcade has a piece of my heart because it's to play
it all the time at time Zone and I'll never forget. I mentioned this
on my chat with my man at Bart of Darkness, who just released a
new book collecting the Simpsons Check it Out with Lydia from the Simpsons Theory Warren
Evans. I mentioned on that podcast within the Simpson Full Thing of This extra
that I had the chance to buy the actual Simpsons arcade machine that was at
time Zone Kid, and it was only gonna be eight hundred dollars. And
there's this guy on like this T shirt and Tanny like got it. He
was like a Simpsons fan. He's like, just I don't want it anymore
eight hundred bucks. And I was like I want it, And Nichola says,
ah, we got in the room for it's eight hundred bucks, and
I was like, yeah, she's right. And the next day she's like,
look, I can tell you want to just go and get it.
I went in the next day and he fucking sold it, even though I
said to him, look, give me a couple of days to try and
convince. The wife's like, Ye'll give you a couple of days. I
went in there, I'm like I've convinced her and he's like, ah,
so dude, I sold it like this morning, and I'm like, you
said, you're gonna give me a couple of days to confront. This is
mister t at the mall. I forget I never forgave him. I understand
that his ship business when out of business, and I've not really but like
I was just like, so sad, I've never forgotten it. I'm like
kind of at the time Nicola again, it was eight hundred dollars. Nicola
didn't let me buy you see that's giant Bart Simpson behind you. I do
I either chance to buy the entire family, including the catch and everything.
That was the cinema display for the Simpsons movie, right. Granted they were
fucking enormous, right for somebody in Adelaide was selling them for eight hundred dollars
for the entire collection. That wasn't that wasn't part of that one. I've
bought that one separately, but that was they had the Bart one and Nicholas
like, hey, gonna get there. It's a hundred bucks. They're huge.
Yeah, you're right, and Dad's like I'll drive you, and she's
like shut up and I'm like, right, cool, we'll get in Dad's
you We'll go to fucking Adelaide road trip. You know, I'll pay for
the fuel. We'll go get them, we'll come back and because like the
two, I'm like, you're right, they're too big. They sold one
recently for twenty five thousand US dollars. Twenty five thousand US dollars, that's
like close to forty forty grand. Forty grand. I could have got it
for eight hundred dollars like seven years ago. Oh, the divorce papers are
still sitting in the drawer. But the best Simpsons game, yeah, the
Arcade is probably the one that has a piece of my heart. One I've
never played is Simpsons Skateboarding. I bought it recently to try it out,
so I'm looking forward to trying that out. On one I never really played
was road Rage. I felt like you were either a Simpsons road Rage fan
or a Hit and Run fan. I think road Rage came first, I
want to say, but Simpsons Hit and Run will always be the peak of
Simpsons games. Okay, cool, Next question here? Was there ever a
ghost story from David Mott? Was there ever a ghost story or spooky rumor?
That you heard of school. We used to say the bloody me you
one a lot, say your name three times in it was that candy Man,
But Bloody Mairy was the same, wasn't it. Yeah, n Bloody
Mary three times, candy Man five times, five times. Okay, Yeah,
I remember doing it to my sister that much after she for some reason
my uncle let us watch like the horror movies, like a horror movie marathon,
when she was like ten and I was like thirteen or whatever, and
I was like, candy Man, can stops doing it? Your monster crazy
canny Man? Good movie? Yeah, are you any good though? No?
No, okay. One that did a lot of circulating when we were
kids was the one about the hook. You know how they it's no,
I know it did last summer. Yeah, it's a bit like that.
Okay. It's the couple they go parking the makeout somewhere and he's teasing the
girl a bit and he's sort of talking about, oh, there's a a
guy who you know, supposedly escaped from a metal asylum around here, and
instead of you always an escape, Yeah, it's he's got a bloody hook
for a head. Oh yes, and classic something like that. It gets
like caught on the door of the car or something like that. I mean,
and you know, grow op and bloody regional Victoria. I don't think
anybody's going, oh, yeah, that happened around here, but yeah,
we'd tell it regardless. There was a book that was going around when we
were teenagers called The Banishing Hitchhike it which was full of all these urban legends
where people saw hitchhiked. A people saw hitchhike, I don't think so.
I used to see them quite a bit on the highway, but not anymore.
Well, I was a teenager a very long time ago down yeah,
the pretty uber day, yes, but you know it was full of all
these urban legends. Yeah, yeah, everything from the hook story to well
the title story about the Banishing Hitchhiker, where it's like, yeah, I
gave this girl left for you know, then I looked over and she just
wasn't there. It was like, what the hell have I be given a
road to a ghost? What's happening? And so we're all sort of Jamie
Curtis, It's but yeah, that was that were the main ones. The
Hook was the main one. Okay, the bloody Hook. It's always like
a name in the mirror or like a hook for a hand. Yes,
classics, all right, Andrews Swan. This episode won the two thousand and
Any Award for Music in an Animated Television Production. Apparently, well, he
said, apparently a question. This is a question that formed the statement,
what's been some of your favorite music in the Simpsons today? Maybe excluding the
big songs to put the question in hard mode, So your favorite Simpsons music's
so we'll take the score out as well. I did look. I like
it when they I've said this before when they put a spin on the Simpsons
theme over the closing credits. I think it makes the episodes feel special.
They did with who shot Mister Burns and but versus Australia and things like that,
the Treuce of Horror theme. So it's best songs I've as an adult
have a new fan appreciation because as a kid I didn't like it. But
the songs in Colonel Homer by Learling Lumpkin, Oh yeah, that last one,
She's like the marginal just down. I'm like, oh, I could
cry thinking about Its fucking great and it was written by Ben. Yeah,
it's finally bagged me a Homer in that and that one is well, yeah,
because that's great. Yeah, that's really good. She wrote all of
them, definitely, Dangelo. Yeah, classy lady. And that episode was
written by mac graney, the only episode to have a solo writing credit for
mc graney, I believe. Yeah, but that's one that I appreciate a
lot more when I'm older those ones. Sorry not to jump on your bandwagon,
but yeah, that the season's turning around for me. Now I finally
bag me a Homer. It's really neat. I mean, you know,
it's it's tough to write a song. Well, I mean maybe it's not
tough to write a song with this sort of like a central motif like baseball
or something, but to you know, do a love song or a happy
song about something like that and you have it all makes sense. Yeah.
I love how the song sort of tell her love story throout the episode as
well. Yeah, first song, she's depressed and sad and she's bad to
her home and at the end she's like, oh got somebody you know you've
got in a way. I hope she understands how lucky she is, and
I'm like, oh, this is great. Yeah, So yeah, I
think that's my that's one that really springs to mind. Glenn Gomez, what's
your top video game franchise? Why is all about video games? Harkers Bart,
Yeah, what's your top video game franchisees see, I a stopped playing
video games when I was a teenager. Franchises for me as a kid,
though, when we go back to the nineties was Crash Bandicoot, Spi of
the Dragon. I was never a Mario kid. I never owned a Nintendo.
I had a sixty four when I was a bit older. I sort
of got it when it was old news by that point, but I was
very Sonic when I was little kids. Sonic and Crash Bandicoot and Spira the
other three tier top tier for me. I'm not sure if Mortal Combat counts
a franchise, although it's got various iterations. Yeah, I mean, I'd
never played all that many of them. I probably played like Mortal Combat one
two. That's arka machine at the Fish and Chip shop. Absolutely at the
Las Vegas pinball parlor across from the old forte fucking good is that play?
That was great? Holy shit? It was really good because it felt slightly
disreputable. They sold They sold great hot dogs. Actually they did. They
had really good hot dogs. You get a hot dog with coke, get
a bit of change, go play Mortal Kombat, kick the shit out of
Goro, go back to work. Yeah, maybe that was fantastic. My
nephew, Rory, my man, Rory James, he he's still a bit
of a gamer, and he sent me a link recently to like up on
YouTube. There was a bunch of cut scenes from the most recent Mortal Kombat.
And yeah, I'm not really a gamer. I don't know a whole
lot about cut scenes. Were like, oh, this is sort of filling
in the story and all this kind of stuff, and it was really great
visuals and I had some good fighting at watching a movie. It really was.
I was like, make it into gaming if I can beat the shit
out of people speaking of Rest in Peace E three Expo apparently. So it
was always gonna happen when they started Pawn. It's gonna happen to Comic Con
probably eventually as well. I think so all the big movie sitios are like
I probably I'd rather announce the ship on our social media and get their likes
and the engagement I reckon. So yeah, I mean, well that's also
you know, the current decline of the superhero genre, because that really is
not dead but no, but it's one for in the fucking cough. It's
kind of on life support at the moment. I mean someone was someone put
up on Twitter the other days like which of these twenty twenty four superhero movies
are you look forward to the most? And it was like Deadpool three,
Venom three, Craven the Hunter, and Madam Webb, the last three of
the sort of Spider Man spin offs, and everyone's put like one Deadpool three
and then gap gap, gap, gap gap about the others, even though
I watched the trailer of a Craven the Hunter and it looks kind of rad.
It looks, but who can well it? As I've said about those
those movies, the Spider Man Universe spinoff ones', they've been pretty smart in
that they have you know, Tom Holands of Spider Man and everyone could everyone
can enjoy that, you know, everyone loves cheeky little Tom. And then
they do the villain spinoffs, and if they're smart, like like I think
they are being with Craven, they make it r rated, they make it
bloody, they make advance. I think they were originally going to do that
with Venom and yeah, but so you know, you get something for the
geeks and something for the freaks. Yes, anyway, I don't know how
we got to talking about that. Oh that's rights in three. By the
way, rest in peace as well. I don't know how many Brooklyn nine
to nine listeners listen to the Forefinger is, But we just lost one of
the sincerely one of the great American actors, Andre Brower. Should we watch
it Brooklyn? It's a bit of it. Yeah, it's quite funny.
Yeah, it's very good, and he's very good in it because he is
like a legitimately strong dramatic actor and then he does this incredible dead pan comic
turn in Brooklyn. No No, and it's very very funny. He's gone
at the age of sixty one. That is far too fucking young for an
actor who was you as brief illness. Yeah. Fuck, I mean,
it's it's like losing someone like Philip Simh Hoffman or Allen Rickman's like, you
could have gone to your ninety man, Yeah, and you could have been
just given us great stuff. So yeah, look, that's that's really sad.
You sorry to bring a bumper a note into the lake, but yeah,
after respect, rest in peace, Andre Brown. Final a question from
your man Andrew JP. Of course he's your man. Two thoughts on the
Spuckler family as side characters, that they're just an excuse for cheap hill willy
jokes up until now, Yes, up until now absolutely, Yes. I
hate to keep repeating stuff that I've already said, but yeah, the fact
that we didn't have so much cleues than Brandean, who are very much butts
of the joke. Yeah, focus on the kids who you know, bring
the quote unquote redneck humor but with a degree of heart. Yes, yeah,
just a great episode. This wastcal cause in the next episode of four
