Episode 65 - The Tau Pt 1 - What they are, where the come from, and how they rose up

The 40k Lorecast

On Today’s cast we start our coverage of the Tau. What they are, where they come from, and their history. We open with the surprise they were to the imperium, going from stone age to plasma in less than 60,000 years. From there we dive into the story of rise of the Tau and the introduction of the Ethereal. Then how the Ethereals changed the Tau into the full Caste structures that helped them rise up at an amazing rate. We then dive into what a Tau is physically and also what is a kroot, and how pointless the vespid are. We then close with the real force behind the Tau the Ethereals.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty Kaylorcast with me, John Barsodian, Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Today we're going to do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to cover Tao?
[SPEAKER_01]: Before we begin.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tell me how excited you're
[SPEAKER_02]: Just Mojo is right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tell.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, before we begin, it has been pointed out to us that over the last sixty four episodes, we never told anyone that this is a weekly cast that releases every Monday at seven p.m.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eastern time in the U.S.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not once.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not a single time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, Kevin.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is amazing that anyone is hearing us.
[SPEAKER_01]: The people are like, oh, I wonder where the next one comes out between now and the end of time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or never.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who knows?
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, weekly cast, every Monday, seven p.m.
[SPEAKER_01]: is when I, seven p.m.
[SPEAKER_01]: before the record is when we release the cast out to Spotify and the other companies, some, some of you make it instantly, some of you make it in thirty minutes that we've established out no technology ball enough to answer any of your questions beyond that.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a witchcraft.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Before we begin, though, please do like and comment in the podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Your like and comments, they do move the podcast up and ranking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty heavily, and gives, and really spread a thought to more people.
[SPEAKER_01]: More importantly, from a selfish standpoint, it gives me joy when I get to read your comments in the morning, because I have to read and improve all of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's very fun for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them are quite clever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some ends of your complaints.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well noted.
[SPEAKER_02]: Spoddle.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well noted.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I still retune.
[SPEAKER_01]: Retune.
[SPEAKER_01]: How are you blitturing that?
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say anything because I wrecked so I don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I made it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I probably learned to, I didn't learn to talk it birth, but yeah, I probably learned to that word.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thirty-seven, thirty-eight years ago, if not longer, and used it wrong that entire time.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, thanks comments.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, if you're enjoying the cast a lot and are looking for a place to interact with other people, please in a show notes is linked to our discord.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's completely free forum that has grown leaps and bounds recently.
[SPEAKER_01]: At time of recordings, actually over four, five hundred members, which is a lot, just a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a ton of activity in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this isn't your Costco membership that you use once every six months.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: Unless you have a big family, your Costco shops, like, eh, I don't want to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you go and you're like, I spent a lot of money.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's Costco.
[SPEAKER_01]: But this thing, the discord, the channels cover everything from, you know, they're talking to Brad and I about the cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are in there quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: The questions about the lore in general, hobby and gameplay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Did you gaming a lot more?
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, big fan shout out to Kevin, Macy, Brian, Ethan, Steve, Ryan, Trevor and David.
[SPEAKER_01]: These are the mods that we have in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've been a really good job of helping keeping it a healthy and fun place to interact.
[SPEAKER_01]: The challenge with an all-text forum is that you can, for a cone.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they've been a really good job of helping us kind of keep it so people don't get upset and offended in there because the goal of this thing is to make it not DACA DACA and Reddit.
[SPEAKER_02]: you know what they did find another way to make me lose a game of forty k because one of the guys said what are you going to do if the middle of a game of forty k in a tournament someone says the lords of terror are amazing and have never done anything wrong and I said I'm like when did that you would just clock out you're you're dietribes wouldn't and the guy would sit there like you're on your own
[SPEAKER_01]: We're on your turn, buddy.
[SPEAKER_01]: So also, this is more for me for the older listeners.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to call out the facts.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of you may have noticed that there are ads.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've never heard those before, and they are there now.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is something that we were going to put a note out this court to do anyway.
[SPEAKER_01]: We changed platforms to be able to kind of produce this cast at a higher level and do more sit them more things with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The company we're using.
[SPEAKER_01]: utilizes ad advertising in the podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: So as much as fun as this was a labor of love, it's eating up about fifteen hours a week of my life.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in order to kind of really upgrade any further, we need to kind of bring something in to be able to buy some of this stuff we want and kind of make the stress a little bit less.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you guys don't like the ads reach out to me directly, you can find me on Discord all engage with you.
[SPEAKER_01]: The main thing is, you know, if you hear something offensive or you hear something that you really don't think belongs there immediately reach out, but even if you just don't like that they're advertising now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come talk to me and let's have a discussion about it because I really do care about people's opinions and how they feel about these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to tell you to go to www.poundsan.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have really wind about losing your punk rock edge.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's like for those people who saw SLC punk, there's a bit there about selling out.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is an element.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't eat like I don't, you know, I'm, we have to do this, but I open about it with everybody that this isn't something that I really wanted to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just book, it's the way the world is.
[SPEAKER_01]: The podcast, these things cost money to produce, and that's like I wear wear.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do love the next note.
[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of sell, it's though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad, just carry on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I like the upgrade, but for those people looking to play the game on the tabletop, finding help can be quite hard to find.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is like an ad.
[SPEAKER_01]: For that, Brad has coaching services available.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're new to the game or just looking to improve where you are currently, Brad has an extensive end of experience in both.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to reach out to him for these services, it's on our website at the FortyCareLorecast.com.
[SPEAKER_01]: or you can email him just like all the spam bots do at old man bread.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Gmail.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had to dig for everybody that hasn't.
[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't got back to.
[SPEAKER_02]: I dug through my spam file and got a bunch of people.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, I got buried lately in a bizarre amount of stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Look, it's not, it's not your fault that there's so many singles in your area.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just sometimes these are important messages to send out.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a not-to-people.
[SPEAKER_01]: How else would you know?
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get this over with the towel.
[SPEAKER_02]: Boom!
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the couchish.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the towel joined the game in third edition literally out of nowhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every other army that's been added to the game has existed in the lore before they were added.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everything for a while too.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's been, there's been every faction that's been out, there's been stories, mentions.
[SPEAKER_02]: and everything from the codices to road traders and everything else in the past, Tau did just show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because in Necron's, the Warren, I guess the Warren heaven, yep, the Warren heaven would have come out before the, isn't the lore of the war of heaven would have come up before the Necron's, really, they're there because they talked about the old ones and stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for when they just had others.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're the Tau.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only one that people might argue with us on this vote and
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it depends how you interpret vote.
[SPEAKER_02]: Space dwarves.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're not for the problem is the vote.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I do believe or not supposed to be the squads.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the separate from the squads.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can argue that all they want.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we should be defend.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give them the credit here because yeah, the vote.
[SPEAKER_01]: And might maybe the other one.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the towel came out of nowhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we give the story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about how a towel came in.
[SPEAKER_01]: So back in the, the story is actually a kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: So
[SPEAKER_01]: back in m-thirty-five, so but blows in five thousand years after the the horse heresy, the an ad-neck exploratory speed was just marking worlds.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what they did.
[SPEAKER_01]: We discussed something in the road trader episode where like road traders and ad-neck go out and they especially mark worlds and this they know for future colonization purposes.
[SPEAKER_02]: of what they're going to do with them, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: A signed rose.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the worlds they found was out on the right side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Eastern French, thank you very much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, they found a lot of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They found it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's lush greenery, good soil, oceans, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it was going to be a fairly paradise world, which is a little bit of terraforming.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to send them out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was a local population of xenomorphs, and they were very primitive, basic tools, fire, rudimentary housing.
[SPEAKER_01]: These were the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so the AdMEC sent word back, gets back to the Imperium, and the Imperium begins the process.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's an industrial process of putting together a fleet of them out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Epic bureaucracy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eventually, they do send where they're called seeding ships and the seeding ships are what they sound like.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's ships full of people and some STCs and they're going to land on a planet, do what Terraform and they have to do and just start breeding.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: As they got close to this planet, which is now known as Tao,
[SPEAKER_01]: massive warp storm erupts all around the system.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is like, and there's lots of levels of warp storms.
[SPEAKER_01]: This one was extreme.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this was a category five.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're gone.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so this whole fleet is gone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Interestingly, too, the storm didn't abate because when it usually kind of look just like in on earth, the heavier the storm, the faster it blows through.
[SPEAKER_01]: these warped storms usually when they're this intense go away pretty quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: This one lasted centuries.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a big deal because things happened as we covered in previous episodes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we were on our way.
[SPEAKER_02]: The ships got trashed.
[SPEAKER_02]: We were going to
[SPEAKER_02]: throw more bodies in it, which is the imperium way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, try again.
[SPEAKER_01]: And well, I mean, let's call out.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the idea of a seating ship fleet going somewhere and then getting eaten by a warped storm, they were like, oh, that's never happened before.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, all right, it's more of a what happened.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just they had to check.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, check filing there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're putting their paperwork in and they go, which way do they get killed?
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Check, check.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, oh, so we're setting the backup fleet that we're already making.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: But unfortunately, the storm was so intense.
[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then what happens is as we covered numerous cast now, the Goch Vendier, the age of aposta.
[SPEAKER_01]: He sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: The age of apostasy, again, he's not real, Brad.
[SPEAKER_01]: He is the me.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's not real.
[SPEAKER_01]: So a civil war now engulfs the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this eats up, and this isn't, again, thousands of, thousands of years go by on the Eastern fringe of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the truth is, is that because the reason they didn't go back after Tau does make sense, you just had a civil war within your own, within your own.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to do what we've, with the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: We, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm calling it way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we had to do a lot as a parent.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to re-conquer really settle fixed things.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, the imperms, millions of worlds, all of this takes time and resources.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in that world of be there.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: The whole idea was, yes, there are new worlds we could colonize, but there's also worlds we have to go fix right now because we're going right out of food.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it got just ignored.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fast forward a few thousand years and start having this weird thing coming out of the Eastern French.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not saying it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The right side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going back to it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Come on now.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, we're going back to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They even call out the Eastern French in the codices.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know you do.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can call it whatever they want.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eastern French still.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no magnetic north.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't make sense.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just makes sense.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the Eastern French.
[SPEAKER_01]: It wouldn't work just for a call it going with port and starboard bow and aft.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it has the exact same relevance to what we're talking about here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: On the port.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're heading out to the aft portion of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Man the brig anyway.
[SPEAKER_01]: When is it occurring kind of the right side of the galaxy is
[SPEAKER_01]: road traders and other like independent vessels, just keep disappearing out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is chalked up forever to just being orcs and other asinos, because the orcs are really the biggest presences out.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a small area.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, the Eastern French is massive.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the largest.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
[SPEAKER_02]: because they need to push more resources than that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So fast forward M- Forty-One.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is six thousand years after the events when they first met the town.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a planet and system called Devlin, which is out and what's called the ultimate segmentum.
[SPEAKER_01]: And really don't feel like diving too hard into this stuff, but to make it clear, the Milky Way's devoted, divided up into four quadrants.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the largest is the ultimate segmentum, clear it's on the right side.
[SPEAKER_01]: because it's the largest it also has the most problems and it's where it's where
[SPEAKER_02]: seventy percent of all forty-case stories.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, because it's where, yeah, it's the eye of terror is over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The rift is primarily over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The tyrannids were over there, orcs are from over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: You do see it a lot of elder worlds actually still all the way over there because it's far enough in the eye of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, it's like all of this stuff is over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, to Brad's point, this is where we cause you hear about stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, pretty common for planets in that area to use their planetary defense forces.
[SPEAKER_01]: Devlin detects some ships coming in, sends out the normal hails.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ships don't turn around and Devlin opens fire.
[SPEAKER_02]: And as usual, the period did what it does, which is shoot first, ask questions later.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like the story though, because the,
[SPEAKER_01]: They just start blasting these ships.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ships immediately turn around into runaway.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Imperium just saying, no, and the Imperial Navy jumps out after them and catches them and destroys them.
[SPEAKER_02]: It wrecks them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, these deals kills everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: But with the Imperium does though, every time this happens, these are ships they'd never seen before.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they board the ships.
[SPEAKER_01]: and they go and they grab, you know, what's left of the, of the beings on board and the genetic testing on them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they can know what they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: And while they're testing it, what comes back is it's the same beings that were there six thousand years ago.
[SPEAKER_02]: The guys were the sticks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is a huge problem because six thousand years ago, these guys were Stone Age.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now they have spaceships.
[SPEAKER_01]: with pretty big guns, with pretty impressive technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what opens up next is the impact, it's like next, the imperium opens an investigation and discovers things are a lot worse than they thought.
[SPEAKER_01]: Road traders and fringe colonies have been trading with this race.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a lot for a long time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's actually a lot of knowledge of this race.
[SPEAKER_01]: or we'll get into a crew later, but they've actually been probably seeing some of its members serving as mercenaries on ships at this point, as they want.
[SPEAKER_01]: So at this point, this is pretty well advanced.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you have that, but the bear question is, how the hell did erase in six thousand years to each of the two community close to twenty thousand years?
[SPEAKER_02]: I love that you're going to get so mad about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's simple.
[SPEAKER_01]: They ripped off the backstory of the game, XCOM.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, they also got together and didn't have wild infighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they always went forward.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not letting this go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad didn't play Xcommy played a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have, I believe that time of cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Last, I checked, it's around nine hundred dollars total into the notes, actually, notes over that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So several, maybe twelve hundred dollars.
[SPEAKER_01]: If I look at XCOM one that originally, I'm talking, I'm talking original XCOM, Terra from a deep apocalypse kind of sucked, and then both of the remakes.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't played XCOM, you should play XCOM.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically the best turn-based game I've ever seen.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyways, where they all come from.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, but if theoryals are in that, we'll get to that in a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so rise to the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, let's go back and talk about how they did, what they did in the last six thousand years to make themselves so precious stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got plasma that works.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they've got a lot of things that works just not just say.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So key element of the help that's going to, that's overarching and a lot of their lore is like the Necrontier, they don't access the warp.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to put a pin on that one, though, because depending on the codex, they either know about it or they don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a mystery.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk more about that with the rolling class.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's serious for sure.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think they know at least.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk more.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we'll talk more about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's give you more information.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll hear us having a weird conversation around it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, it has been read kind a little bit, but for the most part, thing in the mic like the Necront here, that everything the towel can to towel do doesn't involve the warp.
[SPEAKER_01]: They really have very, they've almost no knowledge of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The regular towel have no knowledge of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: A primitive creatures just jumped.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about how the tout did this.
[SPEAKER_01]: First, they've got a weird evolutionary tricks.
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems for whatever reason the entire race began developing independently from one another due to location on the planet.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they vastly segregated themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they only did genetic engineering without having genetic engineering.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the crew do this up to a much higher level, but even the base levels, like those living above land.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they come later on with the crew.
[SPEAKER_02]: The crew would actually have like some Marines.
[SPEAKER_02]: They get genetic information from eating people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the crew would actually do change.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting about this is like the tower where one, because it's like they make smaller changes.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got the people with a lowlands, they became experts in agriculture, mineral extraction, getting stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those in the mountains, somehow just grew wings, although that never comes up in
[SPEAKER_01]: The code X is ever the air cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because the air cast, but you'll never see the air cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no models for them, but I'm like apparently they have wings.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're in the body suit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're in the body suit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Others turn into pneumatic traitors.
[SPEAKER_01]: You actually look kind of like, would just interact between the different groups.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the big ones for later because they become the fire cast of the ones in the open planes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these, these were hunters.
[SPEAKER_01]: They became masters of hunting.
[SPEAKER_01]: So each of these four groups begin to kind of
[SPEAKER_02]: And they won't specialize completely separated themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard about the builders.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was also the master of the earth cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, probably the more important.
[SPEAKER_01]: The fire warriors are the most important for the tabletop.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a cast the most important.
[SPEAKER_02]: Correct.
[SPEAKER_02]: That makes me having stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're the only ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: So almost forgot them.
[SPEAKER_01]: My bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: What happens though is that.
[SPEAKER_01]: In each of these individual areas, they start making advancements upon advancements, upon advancements.
[SPEAKER_01]: What we were taking human kind a thousand years, they were doing in a few weeks effectively.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, oh, we have animal husbandry done, you know, irrigation, done, basic manufacturing, more involved manufacturing.
[SPEAKER_01]: But kind of as you'd expect, as this progresses, it progresses, it progresses, and eventually disaster.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're going to worry each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was also vastly a crazy word because of the fact that they were so separated.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you could win the war, but all of a sudden you didn't have food.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this and then all of a sudden there was no traders.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we didn't have anything but
[SPEAKER_01]: destruction of disease and strife because they weren't set up to their entire world was set up so they had to interact with your all little independence who are very very specialized so the guy the the best warriors were the ones who were the hunters that's fine but they couldn't grow food
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the best, the builders could build an incredible fortress, but they'd fit the food in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the guys making the food couldn't fight or defend themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: And all.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it really wasn't.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because they specialize to the tenth degree of, well, why would I know?
[SPEAKER_02]: They also are crazy about that, because they do have the, why would I even bother to know about this?
[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't my cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the weirder part about them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of useless.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, but they do.
[SPEAKER_02]: The thing is is that they're, they know that they're not supposed to know.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they just don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: So no surprise after not a very long war.
[SPEAKER_01]: famine breaks out, which then leads disease breaking out.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the town are just dying off.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they do whatever one does when they're dying off.
[SPEAKER_01]: They begin fighting more with each other.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just go and win.
[SPEAKER_02]: We have a really specialized society.
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And everyone, but no, let's just keep stabbing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they went back to stabbing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's when we get John's favorite part of just IP violation.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this isn't even close.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same name.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's spelled the same way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's like, I don't understand this.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I made a new system for making a computer work.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's it called Windows?
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there already exists, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just call it Windows.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll still love XCOM.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so let's go to this do the ethereals.
[SPEAKER_01]: On a random plateau, there's like, there's been some siege.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's been going on for months or for about five years.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have to say five years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the flying towel have aligned with some of the planes to wellers, and there's a, there's a basically, and they're attacking a fortress.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is one hundred with this, a video game I played in the eighties.
[SPEAKER_01]: What was the one call we had to like put in the number and the artillery would shoot?
[SPEAKER_00]: I remember that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was a great game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway,
[SPEAKER_01]: Five years into the siege, I'm not doing the full drama.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is when the last day, they were almost out of food.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
[SPEAKER_01]: One night, at the camp of the attackers, this new town.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all described as a new town.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a town where the weird thing is face just shows up and says, hi, I'm an ethereal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd like to talk to your leaders.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's a big deal because they also did this on a global level.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, initially, that's what this is the first.
[SPEAKER_01]: They show up to both camps.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: and tell them about the greater good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which we're going to say a lot because it's the towel mantra.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is what how their society exists.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, one, just, sorry, I have to do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why don't towel have noses?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's no, it's the nose is one of the most important organs in your, like a core and the features of our bodies.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like every species has a nose.
[SPEAKER_02]: Look, man, fold them up.
[SPEAKER_01]: They should have noses.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the mind was doing fine with that nose.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: You are a bad never heard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they're I never read it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was honestly too fair.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's we were not Harry Potter.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know we should Harry Potter my little brother read it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just I was I think I'm like high school.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, they was like college when it came out.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the movies at least.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was saying if one had had a kid, so when my son gets older, I'll learn about it for the first time, that will have to redo it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, but yeah, the nose, I'm just gonna go into this, because I do wanna point this out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Our nose is smell, taste, and breathing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is also a filter against poisons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get me started.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, it's funny story.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why we have nose hairs.
[SPEAKER_01]: Trim them people, but don't trim them all the way off.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice that they're like control them, but not scorched earth.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm gonna say.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm glad we had this time to talk about those.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's more interesting than the towel.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Getting guys that actually these stories are actually pretty good.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the ethereals tell everyone about the greater good, you know, and I could I was going to spend this whole cast going to the greater good, but I'll do it twice and you guys will get.
[SPEAKER_02]: They do a huge deal about this because they show up and don't even just.
[SPEAKER_02]: In the world, you know, they're not like, hey, you should work together.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have a detailed plan of life for the top.
[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't just, they're gonna modernize the farm by building a windmill.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll get that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: All the tau and attendants just buy in, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: These are theoryals.
[SPEAKER_01]: I still think that the theoryals have psychics, but that's something that's my own person.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll dive into that in a little bit, because even the Imperium has a few different theories on it.
[SPEAKER_02]: because these guys came in in the middle of a war.
[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't go.
[SPEAKER_02]: You should stop fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: They went, you should also buy into.
[SPEAKER_01]: You should stop fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: You should follow my lead.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go talk to the guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: You were just shooting at, I don't know, six hours ago and go be best friends and everyone went.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: And also do communal communist living.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like also give me all your shit and I'm in charge.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a hard sound.
[SPEAKER_01]: And at the same time, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: The theorists are popping up all over the planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've never been seen before.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just appeared all over the planet in this one thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And within, I don't know, a few weeks, the entire planet now is aligned.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they enter a, what is it, candidly, the greatest golden age in the history of the galaxy?
[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not even close.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing has ever been this successful.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've cast all the overland and chantments.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: That there's an old game.
[SPEAKER_01]: That may be a little bit of an ex-com.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good God, but how'd you play being into it?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well electricity
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a big deal because they instantly align a planet.
[SPEAKER_02]: The whole planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's aligned and they go back to these individual groups and they rename them as cast, which will dig into them in a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these cast become kind of like what the LDR are now at the path.
[SPEAKER_01]: Each of them is whatever you are the master at this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's as extreme as the aspects.
[SPEAKER_01]: because it's pretty strong.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the difference in the aspects or me, it's as extreme the difference is the size detail though, the aspect.
[SPEAKER_01]: So like I'm going to be, I'm going to make you know, blueberry muffins.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true.
[SPEAKER_01]: The way these guys are like, yeah, I make food.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I'm as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I am an engineer based.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they, they just, these guys, they get a little more wide, but they are, that is, if you're not in their wheelhouse, they just, oh, yeah, no one like like doing bother doing anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not this.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a big deal because they instantly, and we're talking, they went from rabble with all these disparate, the war famine, nothing to almost overnight, finally home machine working at a hundred years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we are now, and the greater good begins to spread.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what this does is obviously, it fixes all the current problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: So medicine.
[SPEAKER_01]: gets created, diseases over housing, food, transportation, all that boom done.
[SPEAKER_01]: The towel go from a planet that was probably going to be discovered by the imperium in a few thousand years with like three, with like three dying people on it to complete the exploding and technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also pretty wild because
[SPEAKER_02]: They have no, they bought into the, I, we're going to say greater good of a million times.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but they bought in so hard that they didn't even have planet.
[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't doing anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah, this is actually kind of a cool thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when the, the cow began to rebuild their planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: they don't have to spend any resources on like internal defenses.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all external defenses because they're so aligned that there's like, you know, it's, the other, there's no walls in the blend of town, but they're effectively are no walls on the planet of town.
[SPEAKER_01]: Any wall that's there, it's a retaining wall.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not there for like, where is like, even, you know, obviously the imperial palace on terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like any planet you go to within the imperial is designed for, well, what if we have a civil war?
[SPEAKER_01]: The tower is like, that's not possible.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also going to give it the quick.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wish they would have kept them in third edition tile.
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were originally the good guys and I need to point that out as we continue on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because they're not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're very complex.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're stuff going on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: But originally when they put this army out in third edition, they were just this unified, the one force that was trying to do again.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say it again.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, or animal fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll get, we'll get that in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do a lot of those.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the ethereals remake the town's society.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the first thing they do is they break up into forecasts in each cast that's on specialty.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the name that after the elements, because with their powers combined, that show sucked.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was wildly too old for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Were you really, oh, yeah, that show.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I hated it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, not because it's like, it was a subject matter.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: The whole idea of it's the Captain Platic and Save the Planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just the kids were all whiny and the plot sucked.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was awful.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know what it is.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was wildly too old.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was the secret.
[SPEAKER_01]: I shocked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so the forecast firewater, earth and air, which I could have done in different order and when it made bread start singing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's dive into the individual cast themselves and what they were.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the air cast was started there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The origin of the messengers.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they was the talent had wings.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about this in the jukari episode where the scourges who had wings, they would be messengers and they'd fly it around.
[SPEAKER_01]: Problem is like the talent also invented telecom industry.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the flying pony Express kind of don't need that no more.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's wild because we're going to talk about this a little bit later.
[SPEAKER_02]: But like, how technology
[SPEAKER_02]: increase so much that they even now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They can't keep up with the advancements that they're making and putting them into place.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like half the time they're making stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're work drive things not going great.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not going.
[SPEAKER_01]: That one, that one was a oopsies.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, but yeah, the bread points of the air cast go from being like, hey, how about you applies message over there to be like, well, you already can fly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So go fly this spaceship.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what they did to the pilot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They'd drive everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in the, there's no models for them in the game, because they're just the pilot of the things, because there's them, about the, did the man to go to do the legends?
[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's just, it's too expensive to play.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, good.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, it's twenty one hundred points.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to pour it without for Snig's.
[SPEAKER_01]: If the man to head gone to.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, CK does have two of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he can, he can not play either of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so you never see air cast in the game because that because they're actually on side of the ships and a lot of actually and the vast majority of the reduction of fleet ships, which are, you know, transports or in orbit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, the other one we don't see the water cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: The water cast are purely lower.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they are super important in the lore in there, but they're nothing in the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, important lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: If someone can explain to me by the way, one of the towel fans, I know there are a lot of you because this got requested a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why are the traders the water cast?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like why did they, why that element?
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like the, I like the flow of water for the diplomats though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I just don't, I don't, I'm not saying they're wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're probably is an allegory here and I just don't know what it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you guys know what it is, let me know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'd appreciate it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, so the tau water cast take over and they become the bureaucrats, politicians, administrators, even like some of the diplomats sort of.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the truth is that the tau society is just a hegemony for a hegemony.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I'm a corrected.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking for the ethereals.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that is always everyone else is a with your figure.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they are they are in charge of making deals a start.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're the water cast is really, really good when they meet new races.
[SPEAKER_02]: and developing trade with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are smooth operated.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are, but my point is that, but we call them politicians.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're, they're much more at minutes.
[SPEAKER_02]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I don't think I don't really think of this politicians in the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Ethereum is run stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: But these guys have a lot of power, really, because they can broker deals on the spot when they make people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I read the lore, I'm always kind of like, it feels like they're there, but there's an ethereal, like, right behind them.
[SPEAKER_02]: I get you, but I'm saying, that's what they do.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's fair, and that's the, I mean, the thing about the town societies, again, because it is, you know, that the town wanna believe that they're a nacrosan, mystical commune.
[SPEAKER_01]: But in reality, you know, where, you know, you have a political officer taking turns as like the executive officer of the week.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then that decision is then ratified in a meeting, which is a way better assist over government than maybe like supreme executive power being wielded just because some watery tart through a sword at you.
[SPEAKER_01]: And a couple of you know, I know what I'm talking about.
[SPEAKER_01]: Couple of your, I was getting, I was waiting to run a government.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think they're waiting to run a government.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, if you don't know a lot about, I'll give you one more.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come see the violence inherent in the system.
[SPEAKER_01]: Help help.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm being repressed.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, tell what they are, though, because
[SPEAKER_02]: They end up with a big old, doing style and stuff and just erasing people out of pain.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the truth of the matter is that how these, these up diplomats, they're there to promote the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do believe in their heart of hearts that the entire galaxy should align behind them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this system of government that they're pushing forward this style is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason I made that, as obviously there's a money Python reference, the reason I made that money Python reference is because
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone within the town believe that they're taking part in this greater good, where we're all working together to get somewhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the truth is, no, there's a ruler.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a hidden ruling class, and it is very much so the ethereals.
[SPEAKER_01]: To this end, every time the town encounter a race, they open with diplomacy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They always try to talk to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: It hasn't gone great sometimes with the tyrannids, for example.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but also they didn't know what the tyrannids were.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they did actually send diplomats to the tyrannids.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also sent to the works.
[SPEAKER_01]: And after a while, the orcs got written down is not accepting of the greater good, which is too bad because I think the orcs do like the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just their version.
[SPEAKER_02]: Greatest good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Greatest of the goods.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about the one that actually matters for people who play the game, which is the firecast.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the warriors.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's the wars.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are these were the planes hunters of the early town and they just moved up and up and up.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're an interesting dichotomy because on the one hand, they talk all the time about their big believers in honor.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the honor of combat, the honor of this, the honor of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they shoot like cows.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just gonna call it.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also super small comparatively still.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying, there's big cool suits that they're in right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I get those guys are time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I get that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going back to our elder cast where like Morgan Ross whole thing was like, yeah, I'm just gonna blast things from massive distance and all the other aspects are like, hey, man, that's kind of a cool way to do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to get in there and mix it up with each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: a giant gun that has blades all over it, because he f around and find out if you get too close to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying that's what they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, I just found it interesting thing in the lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about the towel talk about, you know, you have the, is it the blood ritual?
[SPEAKER_01]: What's it called?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the member of these people at these people ignore the leadership on a sex.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, the bonding.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've reached all these things, but their entire combat style was to hide.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you where I can't be seen and then shoot you from being hidden.
[SPEAKER_02]: The patient hunter, Kaya.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that whatever the other one is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Madka.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I just want to point out like their entire battle strategy is to hide.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then they do really well.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then kill somebody.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the term that just the term like honorable fight doesn't like jump to my mind.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like the deer when you're sitting a deer blind.
[SPEAKER_01]: and you blast it from, I don't know where, isn't like what an honorable warrior was up there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like the fact that they have combined arms.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have no melee, but they have one of the best on the board and in the lore.
[SPEAKER_02]: Combine arms fire between small arms, large, huge tanks, the suits, the suits that also range up.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty cool there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, just accept that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's, there's, they do have a third option, which is put a giant robot in the middle of the field with fifty shield drones about it, and then make their opponent sad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not over at the addition.
[SPEAKER_01]: Top players.
[SPEAKER_01]: If those of you who, and I'm going to be only, and those of you who've never played the game, and those of you who started playing the game in ninth edition, my hatred of your army is completely unwarranted and unjustified to you, and I get that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those of you who played in eighth edition, you know you deserve this.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'd like to, we're going to go into it later.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the next cast about the cast.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I do like the fact that they've got a progression.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got to stick out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: The fireworks have a whole system of the way you progress up.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is, it's well.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give the town credit.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're actually one of the better fleshed out races in the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: The writings very good.
[SPEAKER_01]: The codecs are very in depth.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even their like story books are quite well written with good, with good twists and turns.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've had some abuse because if we want to talk about it from specifically on the tabletop, anytime you have an army,
[SPEAKER_02]: That only fights in one phase.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's always going to be too skewed.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same as guard.
[SPEAKER_01]: When guard or good are when tower.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like things like corn.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you only do one thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's it's mainly the my opinion.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is us doing a diet.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've been to end the game play, but it is so we want to send work.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're a lot of like table top hatred comes from when a shooting army gets really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you don't get to do the game sucks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you just, you don't get to do anything besides pick your mouth.
[SPEAKER_01]: The towel with some of their, you know, move shoot move and the shield drones were abusive with this one on our artillery guard.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, inside of the codices and the lore.
[SPEAKER_02]: are a really fleshed out army as far as.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have scouting in it.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have infantry in it.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have suit in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything but the shield drunk thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: The towel table top to lower made sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to give the tell players credit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I made massive fanboy of when my elder be a dark elder or you know, grappled or got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hardly wins.
[SPEAKER_01]: Get lower specific rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: I fully support it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to, I'm going to be kind of not to hate the towel for getting the same thing except for shield drones.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to cover that in our next episode because there's no reason for them to do what they did.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the same.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: But as far as the line, they do a great job of having, uh, they think about a huge amount of units and the lore, they might be the most accurate lore to tabletop.
[SPEAKER_01]: Guard.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the hardest, but the problem is both, I mean, this is what we're discussing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're both in the same problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: Guard when they play really well on the table top to their lower.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's our tele-regard, which you guys are saying how much bread hates that army.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like a passion of a playing against it is like his ultimate nightmare because it is just.
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have agency.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're just, you can blast into oblivion and go, oh, so I didn't roll well on its over.
[SPEAKER_01]: How do the same thing is my issue?
[SPEAKER_02]: True, but I like their line.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, they do really well from Lord of tabletop.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you have to give them credit on the fact that they have stuff that makes sense in this cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, let's get back to the cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive into a theoryals who aren't really a cast, but there's a lears of the town.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're the governing body.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're wildly above everybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a before the tower, effectively a commune.
[SPEAKER_01]: And since all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the ethereals.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the ethereals begin to exert absolute control over all the other cast.
[SPEAKER_02]: Every element of town society, they take control of all their other comrades.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's such a rip off animal farm.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so brutal.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just, I'm just saying like, the, every time I do like the whole research into the town with me going, and
[SPEAKER_01]: I was debating going into, I think it was Lexicana.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was on, I was going to add more footnotes, but to say the actual place that GW got it from.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily like, oh, it's in how codex too.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, this is George Orwell.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where this is from.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the way the South Society of Structure is each of these casts have like families that kind of run the cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Each of those families report to an ethereal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of those ethereals report up to another ethereal.
[SPEAKER_01]: So while the cast themselves have some level of autonomy, they are cosy being influenced by ethereals who are kind of in their orbit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that thing of the day, the theoryals actually make all the decisions.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do like in the game, because the game doesn't do a good enough job of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Win a theoryal is on the board or a theoryal in the lore is on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They'll do everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: They'll lose the engagement to make sure the ethereal survives.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And let's talk about why.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the ethereal's, the imperium beliefs are have some way of mind dominating lesser races.
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe this hard quote.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's, it's a hundred percent true.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that's true because the ethereal's of XCOM can do the same exact, exact, exact.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've worked on here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have one thousand two hundred and eighty four hours into XCOMs into the series in general.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've played this game a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just, they have to have powers though, because you, I don't care how good of a salesman you are.
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't just instantly, you know, what's interesting, those the Imperium can't figure out how, and the Imperium have, they've captured ethereals.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they've dissected them, can't figure out what it is all, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: They brought back like, you know, them alive, which yeah, they can't.
[SPEAKER_02]: They, they are, they do some sort of psychic.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what it is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, it's not specifically psychic because they've had sisters of silence around.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the answer I'm going to talk about.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they, they've dissected their bodies.
[SPEAKER_01]: They, but more importantly, they've actually interrogated live top like live etherels.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I say interrogated, it's a buy the ad Mac.
[SPEAKER_01]: the inquisition and the death watch of the three groups who've done this and you know the imperement not the good guys there are playing good space rain bad space marine you know it was all bad space rain and worse yes it's bad space and angry bad space marine and inquisitor and the reason that I bring this up we talk about where their powers come from is they cannot figure this out because the imperement would be able to
[SPEAKER_01]: understand, for example, if you were, if these theories had a psychic presence,
[SPEAKER_01]: the sisters of the blanks would would detect.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've actually dissected them and they found this like diamond that's the shape it's in their forehead and they cannot figure out what this thing does.
[SPEAKER_01]: I did like though in the code exit does refer to the live ethereal's captured being less than forthcoming to imperial.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also you have to give them credit because we're not nice touching.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, when they say every ethereal would look what I found.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go suck him and just get tortured to death and the whole time is one.
[SPEAKER_01]: But is that what you got?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
[SPEAKER_01]: We do now know, though, in the more the later books, the theferials do have some level of control over the town.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this control does have a distance limit, because it went ethereals and no longer around the town.
[SPEAKER_02]: Coffee off far side.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to cover that in the next cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: So those of you like far side, it's in the next one.
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is a tricky one, because we don't know where the thearials came from.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just appeared suddenly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And first there were two of them, and then there were hundreds of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now there's probably thousands of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, it's not saying they're from it, but there was a giant warp storm.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was, but again, if they were warp creatures, the Imperium would notice it.
[SPEAKER_01]: True.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Tyrion would notice it, the Eldar would notice it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Something would notice it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that becomes the issue.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're more, I think they're, they're a race that's actually, was similar on the Eastern French potentially from Darkspace that know that figured out how to adjust their physique.
[SPEAKER_01]: to at least resemble the town, which, you know, because like the old ones, ragdand, although it's a little, you know, they did with collars.
[SPEAKER_01]: My theory is just the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, they were also super psychic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the, the, there's a little bit there and there was, and there was also that the worm things of the ragdand worked for, forget that with their flavors.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, there's something that was the other.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I, I'll book the South, I'm looking about right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I only missed by sixty million years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just a bit, just a bit outside.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just a bit outside.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the whole thing about this is that I could think of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there are lots of, if you read the Forty K lore a lot, there is a constant interaction with Zeno species who don't get the code X level.
[SPEAKER_01]: My theory is the ethereals are some sort of species that does have a way to mine dominate things that are around them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what they're mostly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I'm taking that from XCOM, cuts exactly what that is.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you guys haven't figured out, yeah, I'm not letting this go.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to keep doing this over and over again, because, twelve hundred hours into that game.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, what is a town?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, we just discussed how the theoryals are potentially just making the list of look like the town.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, really, what are the town?
[SPEAKER_01]: The town?
[SPEAKER_01]: kind of tricky.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are collection of species that are just fighting under the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we refer to the towel.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the towel is a way of life.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just a race.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: When we talk about the Eldar, they are Eldar.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dark Eldar, they're Dark Eldar.
[SPEAKER_01]: When we talk about the towel, it's anything that's fighting for the greater good is technically a... This is one thing that I wish they would do better on the tabletop.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tow have brought in so many races.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the Lord, it's huge on the tabletop.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got several different types of crude and the vespids.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it, you know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And went to that point like the, the cow empire.
[SPEAKER_01]: is made up of humanity in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm jumping ahead a little bit, but there's humanity in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it's a vestipids to the crew.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's numerous races all through there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Many of them don't have models, obviously.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the only thing that I liked how in the fact that they brought it in, but I wish they would have brought more of the racers in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they said, they're really good about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about seventh edition, Brad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the towel
[SPEAKER_01]: to their credit, like to use diplomacy, and they do believe that part of the greater go-to's fighting with your enemies to achieve a greater success.
[SPEAKER_01]: So instead of the addition, we could have allies, couldn't we, Brad?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just, I'm scowling at, Brad, because I know he played this army at one point, and I'm scowling at him, because he knows he did a bad thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Look, the Marines and Tau were allies, period.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking, that's what the bad one.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying that I could attach.
[SPEAKER_02]: How dark.
[SPEAKER_01]: All the town are just wasn't even allowed.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's that's what I'm referring to.
[SPEAKER_01]: So how dark is is how elder combo.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it got banned from the games by tournaments because you couldn't beat it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, sometimes you got to take a detachment or I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: or they call the three retides.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh god.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why am I losing this?
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are people who play formations.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're the formation.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're real who played back then who are now who are probably getting like, they're, they're, they're, they're moving in their share.
[SPEAKER_02]: From what I'm talking about was he's a super crazy and tall.
[SPEAKER_02]: The tall and our supremacy suit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which just wasn't allowed as a model on the board.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just like, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can't have this anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's back now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because it also doesn't have.
[SPEAKER_02]: I win the game by myself.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just when he used to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was, I actually, I love how that thing looks though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a lot of stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love how that thing looks.
[SPEAKER_01]: I heat a lot of their models.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love how that one looks.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just someone pointed out the other day.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I have to, that's going to be over the cast.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they are selfish though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're also fish, but they don't, they don't call them calfish.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is got to everybody off.
[SPEAKER_01]: We call them calfish because they've got clothing feed, which by the way, not just cows have them, soda horses and lots of things.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have fish heads basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they've got fish heads, but they breathe air probably.
[SPEAKER_01]: Did you W never explains that by the way, about like apparently the whole galaxy is breathing what?
[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever we tell him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not it's not important.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just point it out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Between the different casts, their skin does have some variation, but more about like a transparency hue.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's actually just just like human beings.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's regard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you are.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they they send rid of themselves so pet you instantly know if you're looking at an air case.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a difference is like it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at melatonin levels and human beings, it has to do with kind of how much sun there was where you were.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what affects it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also human.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also how much hair we have in our bodies.
[SPEAKER_01]: They embody that with towel.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the towel to bread's point.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're air cast, your skin's borderline translucent.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're fire cast, actually rather dark because they come from a different area.
[SPEAKER_01]: Earth cast, water cast, they're kind of dangerous.
[SPEAKER_02]: only have those together again, they did genetic engineering without knowing they were doing genetic engineering.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, now I'm going to the most going to rip it to them now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, this one again, so you can hear me getting angry.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's how possess and this is in the in the same codex, good eyesight.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they can't focus on distant objects, which is also known as bad eyesight.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if they kept this.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't seven.
[SPEAKER_01]: It makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's what they had on fours now.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's all holding.
[SPEAKER_02]: So basically, they're full targeting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go back.
[SPEAKER_01]: A race whose entire warfare is dependent on ranged combat.
[SPEAKER_01]: has good eyesight, that's not good if that thing is far away.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where are shooting them?
[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess they're really good readers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really, really, really good readers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, why?
[SPEAKER_01]: They also do have blue blood.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a thing because they use cobaltons that have iron, which I had to look up on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's no, and it is real.
[SPEAKER_01]: So for the record, it's real.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's very random to put it in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lastly, not shittin' on him, just telling the truth.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are the physically weakest race in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: But like, oh, by a wide wide large.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Smaller than humans, weaker than humans.
[SPEAKER_01]: Humans are the next smallest.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're, they're way of leaving grots.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but they're us to the horse.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just bigger.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think by the, I think a grot could beat up a towel.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're really small.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is, is they kept it.
[SPEAKER_02]: They wanted them to be that because they included their two technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's where it all comes from.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also don't live very long.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're the shortest live that I about fifty years.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and we say sure that the humans have a low at life expectancy because like a lot of war, but the tethered difference of human being could live just like we can.
[SPEAKER_01]: They hundred years or or so.
[SPEAKER_01]: The towel came.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was saying that for the first millennium, you're still living to be like a hundred and twenty plus if nobody shoots you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you just nobody shoots you that the hive city you're working on.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're rich, call it whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like today.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can be effectively almost immortal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're really rich.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're immortal.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're just mediocre wealthy, you live a long life.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
[SPEAKER_01]: One flip side of the town do get is they need about fifty percent less sleep than a human does so that they're a lot more.
[SPEAKER_01]: So their total active time is a dot equal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I like it when GW does this kind of writing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I give me some weird back story that given him blue blood, does it matter?
[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels that they're more fleshed out.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just all common.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's fleshed out, but it made them why they're alien and here's the reason.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the things about them that are alien.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now we're just humans that are tiny.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so as we said before, that was the cow original race from the planet of town.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now let's talk about some of the other ones because, you know, as soon as the town built their first spaceship, they went into the galaxy and discovered, oh, there's other people.
[SPEAKER_02]: They did other races, but like, tall expanded crazy, especially for somebody that didn't have warp drives.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just, because we've got other systems now, because you got
[SPEAKER_02]: hopefully they knew better job about the soon, but you know, the different, you know, towel, the different systems all have a different style of fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, well, they did.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's going now.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was fun for a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so like the theoryals as a towel have expanded the towel to like bring other raises into the fold.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so the tower, I mean, I don't know what percent, but at least twenty five percent of the towel are not towel.
[SPEAKER_01]: are not original to how they are, they are more than that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm assuming if I grew in desperate cycles to fifty percent, I'm thinking about it more.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's super, there's a ton of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why because the group breathe like guppies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's more, that's why.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ethereals are bringing them all in because they're not just looking for warriors.
[SPEAKER_01]: Looking for anyone who wants to make a new home can be building perfect little gardens for the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about some of the ones that added originally.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there were some small ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: The poctron, the throcks, and the Nikosar.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wish they would have brought them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they never did.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've mentioned it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The poctron died off immediately.
[SPEAKER_01]: They actually, they mentioned that the thoraxian or six in the seventh edition code X is one sentence.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's also a sentence of different races than her that are coexist with the Tao.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do the nicaster though, who had potential and then they just went nowhere with them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it was awesome because they were sick.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were bears.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were bears.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a psychic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a psychic bear.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a psychic bear.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to give me a cool model?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like there, I mean, GW, love their business stuff off, workcraft.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're in the workcraft free, we're with over the bare things and workcraft.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there it's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ta-da.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also, by the way, wrote these things in the Necassard, fly spaceships.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted these in the talent pile so badly because I also think it fight because well, they're bears.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're bears who fly spaceships.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing but potential.
[SPEAKER_01]: Psychic best.
[SPEAKER_01]: The waste of potential.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, nothing but wasted potential.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lastly, of course, they're humans who have joined town.
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of humans actually.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there's a lot of huge, we've pruned them pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: The imperial isn't real big on you joined the town.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this is the higher, but yeah, this is the second sphere.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the third sphere with the, well, I think was called.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll believe that up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say, the humans who join the towel do not appear on the table top, but it's here up here massively in the lore because the towel like to use them whenever
[SPEAKER_01]: other imperium visits, they like to have a bunch of humans greet them because they think it's making a good impression.
[SPEAKER_01]: Instead, you're saying to a space marine who's usually the one you're meeting with or an inquisitor, hey, Harris, again, look at all, look at all the humans we converted to our cause.
[SPEAKER_02]: How to be a cleansing example.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just basically just send a note that says, please, exterminate us.
[SPEAKER_01]: It would be quicker.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about the lack of it last to a crude investment.
[SPEAKER_01]: These actually are heavily fleshed out within the tau lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: Codex is they have models and we'll start with the crude who are dumb and I hate them.
[SPEAKER_02]: How do you hate a crude party?
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_02]: Screw this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going about what crude are.
[SPEAKER_02]: So crude can alter their DNA by eating their enemies.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what's great about this is they have many a story in the beginning when the the town got them as part of their force and a huge part of their force.
[SPEAKER_02]: They had to effectively have many a meeting of, you can't just stop and eat the dead in the middle of the battle, because we still are fighting a battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when they eat the dead, they mutate right there on the spot.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not how genetics work.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's magic and sci-fi.
[SPEAKER_01]: Say magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Codex says it absorbs their DNA and changes them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Magicly?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not how it works.
[SPEAKER_01]: Magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not how it works.
[SPEAKER_01]: Magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the crew are originally birds.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they're going to put you different types of crew now, which is fantastic because of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we've got, you know, I mean, just look at the game.
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got crew.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's more in the lore, but like just on the board itself, you have regular crew, just the regular crew.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you've got crew talks.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got the far stalkers, which are slightly different.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got beasts.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got all these different, uh, slightly adapted.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know you ate them, but
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just, whenever some puts on a table top, I'd go, I'm gonna kill them on principle.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I care about the points.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want them off the board.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, these guys are significantly, they're still very frail looking, but they have that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they haven't even held our bill.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very, it's a frail, but very muscular build.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're stronger and taller than a human, and they're really fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing with the group.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're really, really fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're also very stupid, like, functionally not just my opinion of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They, the imperial autopsies have shown that, like, they don't even have a rear hemisphere in their brain effectively, which is where all your creativity, imagination come from.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the crew really are animalistic.
[SPEAKER_01]: If it wasn't for the towel, they would just wore and kill.
[SPEAKER_02]: They would have never got off their plan.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, well, let's talk more about the stupid trick that they have, which is crouchavers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a crouchavers.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the crout leaders are called shapers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the shapers tell the crout what they can and cannot eat.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this helps them kind of control their evolution.
[SPEAKER_01]: And because it's gone bad a few times effectively.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you eat the wrong thing, you actually going to effectively devolve, which is what a crout hound is, which is crook dog.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have devolved.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what they do is they say that this is good to eat this.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll turn you to something of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the ones I do laugh at that are big no nos for eating our tyrannids.
[SPEAKER_02]: I did not go well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, anything that's worship chaos and there's still not supposed to eat the towel.
[SPEAKER_01]: That seems to be a courtesy.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'd like to see what happens if a crew needs an affiliate.
[SPEAKER_02]: They also don't really get into the original meeting because all crude are wildly loyal.
[SPEAKER_01]: From a societal standpoint, the crude are a familial unit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they view anything as being pure family and they do anything they want out of it, crude are fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, actually, fun story.
[SPEAKER_01]: The crude, unlike the poison weapons in GW, cannot eat a neckron.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the GW rules, you can poison a neckron, but the crude cannot consume them.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... you know who doesn't have jeans tailor invasions also the group cause they can detect it yeah whatever stop that worth invading so the version but but the group come from a bit because i do kind of like this one so the crew live in a part of the galaxy right next to the orcs
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we don't the crew that the town discovered were actually a pretty heavily like evolved version of whatever the original bird was that has eaten a bunch of orcans just about saying they're really which is also why I think they are where they are yeah
[SPEAKER_01]: The crude are, this is why the crude are so strong or so quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's because they're actually genetically somewhat similar to Orcs.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're a bird fungus.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got nothing.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have a lot of Orcs-esque weaponry, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they can talk about this.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, just because they have, it's, I say, esque because they have guns.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have some like weirdly higher tech.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, nothing else.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's an annoying thing about this to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in the code X, in the stories, the crew encountered Orcs early on.
[SPEAKER_01]: They then ate the Orcs and eating the Orcs, it gave them the ability to interact with the York technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it's written.
[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is, as we've talked about Orc technology numerous times in our cast, Orc technology doesn't work.
[SPEAKER_01]: It only works because you believe in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So how could the the crew have used this stuff unless you're telling me the orcs are now the crew have the power of the orcs to make it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just it's this really weird like cyclical thing that I was for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like they just kind of saw certain things work because they have rudimentary offense, but they have again, they carry rifles.
[SPEAKER_02]: They give back I think a lot of those kind of good talks writers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's come from the tal though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think probably because you've got an administrative real quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's have some variations of the crew.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got the crew talks, which is this giant.
[SPEAKER_01]: For just hooking four like it beast looks nothing like a regular crew and a crew carnivore who's kind of the regular crew warrior just as honest back with a giant gone or a spear.
[SPEAKER_01]: These things have had some interesting rules over the years, just from a toughness ratio standpoint.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also super fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I haven't seen one of the board though in years.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're there.
[SPEAKER_02]: They brought down the points a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Crude hounds we discussed before are just dogs and moved in packs.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just skirmish and units.
[SPEAKER_01]: But one thing that that crude hounds that use a lot for is whenever a surprise attack from a tower occurs and the enemy runs away, the crude hounds chase them down and eat them.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I start with with a crude game from.
[SPEAKER_01]: m-thirty a crew are engaged in a war with the orcs and it's just the problem with the orcs is this war got so big that it was drawing more orcs in because they weren't the crew the crew weren't strong enough to eliminate the orcs there isn't a strong up to make a good fight for the orcs which brings more orcs which brave and that it is compounding and compounding
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a rather the same time the towel had just discovered interstellar travel.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the towel see this and decide to intervene because the towel hate the orcs.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they also keep ripping the heads off the water cast out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, those diplomas and things didn't go great now.
[SPEAKER_01]: You guys want to you guys want to trade?
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not the towel save the crew from the works.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is it.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the after this the crew are just unwavering.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I also do believe though that that's how it's written in the codex.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's because as we said before, the ethereals can mine dominate lesser rates and the crew are incredibly stupid.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's kind of where I went with because they said that there's the one battle and everyone was now on board.
[SPEAKER_01]: But, and this is why I think this is because the crude are very popular mercenary force throughout the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're seen independently all over the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe that's because once you get them away from the ethereals, they have to think a bit more for themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they just go, well, I actually don't want to be in a large scale fighting force.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to be, it's other a small family or even its individuals just all throughout the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very popular on rogue trade or ships, et cetera, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: But to Brad's point, that loyalty they have is why they get hired.
[SPEAKER_01]: The crude having natural loyalty.
[SPEAKER_01]: So every
[SPEAKER_01]: And even whatever you are any mercenary who wants to hire, you know if you hire a crude, they will not abandon you until the job is done.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: But since the job is done, they make it hire for something to kill you in which case they're totally okay with that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that is just like I'm pretty done now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to vespits.
[SPEAKER_02]: Genotians, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Genotians.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're called from the stupid Star Wars.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a dead rip off of.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even close.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fourth edition.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tesla's.
[SPEAKER_01]: They added vespits.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're I hate the monso many levels.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know I'm just the next cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be more positive.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're flying bugs with a cool gun.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're flying bugs with a cool gun, but it's again, I just don't like when they describe them wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they've got, they've got these like two pillars on top of their head and each of those pillars have a, it's a set of eyes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Three pairs of eyes, an exoskeleton in wings.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and it randomly, they have a stinger in their stomach that either can deliver a pox in the anatomy or cannot deliver a pox in the anatomy, depending on which code X you read.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't care.
[SPEAKER_01]: And those three eyes, sets of eyes have all seen a different light spectrum, which is not a thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I live in different light spectrums or a thing, but how would your brain process?
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, at one level with this, we're just like, it's magic, John.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just don't write it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, this is, I've been over this before.
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to give me details.
[SPEAKER_01]: That suck.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can skip them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's say they have three sets of eyes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need to know they can see in a different spectrums.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't care.
[SPEAKER_01]: My real issue with them is their purpose because the whole idea of them is that there should be scouts and like fast attack for the town, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have wings.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're insects.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exoskeleton, they have a gun.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cool, we could use that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Trains do it so much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the town of African drones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Drones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the first meeting is so awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's fast bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I will yet that part is just funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, drones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Feels like one of those would be a better assistant.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't hate on your genocians.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but yeah, but Brad's point is fair.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about their story of how they got a similar to the towel because he actually is kind of funny.
[SPEAKER_02]: They gave them a cursed item in a box.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that just one that's that's why it's funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the towel meet the vest bid and the vest bid are instantly hostile because the vest bid are fit with its insects.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they it's like a horn.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they meal your tack.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so the towel looked at them and were like, yeah, we're just going to have to eliminate this one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm either, and the ethereals went, no, I've got an idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll go talk to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the ethereals walked up to the vestments and said, hey, things that keep shooting at us every time we get near you, I made you a gift.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the gift is a helmet to put on your head.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's offers great protection.
[SPEAKER_01]: But protection, just their head, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Their head has the same exoskeleton as their body.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it wasn't like it wasn't like the whole body was exoskeleton.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like soft gooey head.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no difference.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the little of that's what's went awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks to the baseball cap, they throw it on and immediately become docile to the ethereals and follow every command.
[SPEAKER_02]: They put my control habits all up.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they did it.
[SPEAKER_02]: They gave them a curse.
[SPEAKER_02]: Badger guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's end on the ethereals again.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go back into them and kind of more about what they really are.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the short answer is that they're evil.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the wrong answer is that they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're only evil now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the greater good used to be the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad cared about this when it came out.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I did.
[SPEAKER_02]: I liked having one good guy on the tower.
[SPEAKER_01]: The tower originally, the original code X is they were the good guys, the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were unifying all the races to defeating evil.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually there was being set up to be a way for actual the Milky Way to succeed for lack of a better phrase.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then they decide to sell the underdogs.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're so much smaller.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's why they're greatly smaller.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're their entire race.
[SPEAKER_02]: And where they, it takes up nothing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we moved into that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was, you know, right about six edition.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when the far side book came out.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's been about six edition.
[SPEAKER_01]: It pivoted hard.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hard, hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like all of a sudden.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when you discover, well, I say, I'm discovered.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when GW decided we would all discover.
[SPEAKER_01]: that the ethereals are completely in it for themselves and their own advancement.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're manipulating their lesser races of the galaxy just to be their fighting force.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't know why.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I do, because I play next come.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ethereal's for... The issue I have with this is the writing where it's a little bit goofy, so it's implied in the far-sight books.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ethereal's are aware of the warp and the beings of the warp.
[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, they have no... The imperial psychers and blanks have shown the ethereal's don't interact with the warp, or at least they're not psychers.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's hard to figure out what's going on here.
[SPEAKER_01]: The best theory I can give you is that the theoryals are old, one level, old.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they actually, it's more, they are aware of it because they've learned of it than I have an essence to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this also would explain the fact that the theoryals were caught completely off guard by the size of the imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: In my mind, if they were actually a warping, first thing they would have known.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why that's why I keep going back to just me.
[SPEAKER_01]: John theory is that the ethereals are a
[SPEAKER_01]: thought to be extinct species in the galaxy that has, you know, maybe not full blown parasite on on the towel, but pretty close because they're the heads.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what let's go through kind of what some of the stuff that's changed with them because
[SPEAKER_01]: Originally, like we said, the ethereals was obvious there was some level of mind control being done in.
[SPEAKER_02]: But originally it was more of a beacon.
[SPEAKER_02]: You wanted to, you bought into the greater good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more like what Horus had, where it was being in Horus's presence was a like, you know, with it was glowing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, you also, you were just inspired to be better by his just being there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Later on, they become much more
[SPEAKER_01]: your mind dominating becomes more brilliant.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, much more brilliant.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And for example, from the outside, and now in the modern version of Forty Kay, the Tal Empire is stagnating.
[SPEAKER_01]: It has stalled it being the stagnate, but everyone inside doesn't believe that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but they also, that's why they keep pushing the spheres out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it would have been successful.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the last one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, this fear is of expansion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Last three.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, just look.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's nice too, I've been three, four, and five rolled down, stir fires, and they're about start six.
[SPEAKER_01]: So one and two were successful.
[SPEAKER_02]: One and two were slightly successful.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know you're a Raiders fan, but just so you know, going two and four is not a good record.
[SPEAKER_01]: For the, like, you do get a good ice draft pick, but that's about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But everyone inside of town still thinks things are going great.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's because if they're near the ethereal's, the mind domination is pretty strong.
[SPEAKER_02]: They also have a pretty big propaganda.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lastly, though, what we don't know and we really don't know is what their goal for the galaxy is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It might be like the Cabal where they actually are cherishing peace in their heart and they just, they have a plan for it, but they can't really explain to anybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or this could be something much more nefarious where they're actually trying to manipulate it through.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm ashamed.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of my theories here are, again, based on X-Combin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because if those of you haven't played the game, X-Comb, I'll give you a little bit of a breakdown in this cast for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: X-Comb is an amazing cool game where human beings are fighting against an alien invasion on Earth.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they discover quickly is that through the multiple levels of aliens they fight through, there's a lead alien.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is they're called the ethereals, and they dominate all of the rest of the aliens that you're fighting against.
[SPEAKER_01]: The theoryals in like later XCOM become clear, there's actually a greater enemy in the galaxy that they're trying to fight with.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they've been moving around the universe, unifying races, be a psychic domination, to be underneath them, to then build a giant fighting force so they can then go out and defeat this greater evil.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, that's what the theoryals in XCOM are.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those of you who read a tale literature tell me where I'm wrong,
[SPEAKER_01]: I do hope, I mean, that being said, we'll see what GW does, but let's break there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because next week we're going to focus on a few different things, like the way the towel's wage war, John's going to talk about shield drones.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll also spend some time on some of the key characters and the key events, like they forgive all the spheres of expansion.
[SPEAKER_01]: But until then, this is begrudgingly been John Barsotti and happily been Brett Jester.
[SPEAKER_03]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: See you then.
