Adam Luckett will talk some football in the second hour, but Myron is in Minneapolis, the co host of Matt Myron on Sunday Mornings with Me. Myron, thank you for joining us on such short notice.

00:01:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, nah, thank you for having me.

00:01:26
Speaker 6: Man.

00:01:26
Speaker 7: How hi was I on the list of people you were thinking about it? You were the first, because I felt like I was like seventh a little bit based on the tens F I didn't know you were first.

00:01:36
Speaker 5: We just had we knew Ryan was gonna be gone. Drew is having like Drew and this has happened to me. Have you ever had the back problems where your back just locks up and you can't move. Drew is having that right now. So he can't he he can't like he barely got in here yesterday and like he can't move. And when as soon as Drew was out and I knew Ryan was out, I was like this, it's Myron time.

00:01:58
Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, good, I'm just making sure I was pretty high on the list. Hope everybody is good.

00:02:02
Speaker 6: Though.

00:02:02
Speaker 2: Back problems are no joke. At all, but glad to be here. Man.

00:02:05
Speaker 5: No, I think he's good. Now, Myron of course, and I of course do Sunday mornings. Uh, we're gonna call a bowl game together, Shannon, which we may practice a little bit of today.

00:02:14
Speaker 8: Now.

00:02:14
Speaker 4: I know you never done play by play, Myron.

00:02:16
Speaker 3: Have you ever done a color commentary for a game for a football color?

00:02:20
Speaker 4: What color commentary?

00:02:21
Speaker 8: Oh?

00:02:21
Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, yeah, I've done not football. I've done basketball. I've done commentary, I've done play by.

00:02:27
Speaker 2: That's very they are chanted.

00:02:28
Speaker 5: That's a different sport, that's true, much difficult, much experience, though, it's much different resumes I've done.

00:02:34
Speaker 2: I've done games, and I've done a ton of sideline.

00:02:36
Speaker 5: Are you nervous about the fact that I've never done play by play and you've never done color for a football game, and we're doing it in a national broadcast? Does that make you at all nervous?

00:02:46
Speaker 2: Wait? I thought you told me you had done play by play? You haven't. You haven't.

00:02:50
Speaker 7: I thought you said when we first talked that maybe you've done it before. I mean, it is nice to think I said that, But but.

00:02:59
Speaker 2: I did. I wasn't nervous, No, really nervous. I mean, but I've watched football. I've seen chanting. I've seen plays happen one after another.

00:03:15
Speaker 4: Sure, you want to put your good name on the line.

00:03:17
Speaker 7: That listen, if they put us on they know what they're getting. I just I've been working on catchphrases, catchphrases, not just hard.

00:03:27
Speaker 2: But do you have a catchphrase? I got a couple of them. Okay, you want to test out his catch phrases?

00:03:33
Speaker 4: Here, I've got one right here. I can play back for him.

00:03:36
Speaker 2: Let's play one of his catch phrase. All right, Okay, tell your friends about me.

00:03:43
Speaker 7: That's that's that's you say that for later in the game though, that's like one of my premiere.

00:03:49
Speaker 2: Okay, you don't bring that out. You don't do the that's like the fourth quarter, big big Western Kentucky play.

00:03:58
Speaker 5: Tell your friends that's a yeah, that's that's later in the game.

00:04:08
Speaker 7: You know, that's like a fourth quarter somebody makes a big play in a close game, then you you throw that out there.

00:04:14
Speaker 2: I see what you all think of this idea.

00:04:16
Speaker 5: I had an idea, Shannon, that since I have not done it long enough to have catchphrase, that I would give a tribute to all the great announcers by using their catch phrases during the game. Not consistently, Shannon, but like it's like it's like little almost tributes throughout the game.

00:04:36
Speaker 7: Yeah, you gotta be careful about that. Lightly, I just got you don't want to overdo it. I would use game. I would only do it once again. So let's say game starts, Southern Miss has the ball. I'll say about Western Kentucky, Shannon, they opened up.

00:04:54
Speaker 2: Man, now you're using a basketball. I don't know. Yeah, I don't know football. You don't think I do that.

00:05:02
Speaker 7: No, I don't think. I don't think that. I don't think. Well, commentators are really like they don't like that. Like commentators are really protective of their catchphrases.

00:05:18
Speaker 5: So I wrestlers are like that. They are and they don't like you to use their finishing moves. Yeah, so you gotta be careful about That's one year.

00:05:26
Speaker 7: What's one you've considered? So, like, let's say there's a big catch. I call a big catch.

00:05:32
Speaker 2: Well, looks, don't make me call things, and this is what we actually, this is what we have to do that.

00:05:41
Speaker 5: Until I'm ready to call them. But we could just say, you know, Philip Rivers deep ball to shading griggs Be thirty one yards. That ball stuck to his hands like peanut butter to jelly.

00:05:51
Speaker 2: Mat No, I can't wait. Wait a minute. That wasn't That wasn't That was bad? Was that bad? It wasn't good? That well, it's bad. It shut up.

00:06:08
Speaker 5: It's just it felt like a little for give me, it felt like just it just felt like a regular, like a joe.

00:06:15
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:06:15
Speaker 7: Yeah, let me be a little more natural, give it, give it to him again. Let me be a little more natural, and I'll do it the way I'll really do it.

00:06:21
Speaker 5: Philip Rivers drops back to past Griggsby's open catches for thirty one yards.

00:06:25
Speaker 7: Down the sideline, Matt great hands by that young man stuck to his hands like peanut butter to jelly.

00:06:33
Speaker 2: Better, I'm throw it away.

00:06:35
Speaker 4: It's the content, it's the delivery. The delivery was better.

00:06:39
Speaker 2: The delivery is not good.

00:06:41
Speaker 5: Better the second time, I agree, the delivery seemed more natural second time.

00:06:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, a lot of my catchphrases involved peanut butter and jelly. Should I change that up? Because that's maybe my problem? Like I couldn't like a lot of it's peanut butter and Jelly. I think I gotta maybe come up and I think you can.

00:06:56
Speaker 5: Only do one line ship And wouldn't you agree peanut butter in jail?

00:07:00
Speaker 7: We can't have every catchphrase be up Butter than Joe. I've got three three per half Peter Butter. I just I gotta come up some new stuff. Isn't gonna go with? I mean, that's just kind of this is not gonna go with.

00:07:13
Speaker 4: It was already off the rills.

00:07:16
Speaker 5: You know what, We're gonna do a great job. I'm one hundred per confident we're gonna do uh, We're gonna do.

00:07:22
Speaker 4: It extuply regardless.

00:07:24
Speaker 2: It will be entertaining.

00:07:25
Speaker 5: Even if I just end up making fun of Myron the whole time, it'll be entertaining.

00:07:29
Speaker 2: I wanted to bring you on.

00:07:30
Speaker 5: Here to talk a little bit, in addition to having fun, talk a little bit about basketball. And you're so, how long you been covering basketball for ESPN?

00:07:38
Speaker 2: Byron? What?

00:07:38
Speaker 8: What?

00:07:39
Speaker 2: Well?

00:07:39
Speaker 7: How long has it been? Fifteen years with ESPN? Almost twenty overall?

00:07:44
Speaker 2: Twenty years?

00:07:45
Speaker 5: Okay, so you you probably you've said before Kentucky fans, when you write something for ESPN, isn't it the case? And you tell me if I'm wrong that Kentucky articles do better on ESPN than anything else.

00:08:03
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean the traffic is I mean, I don't know what I can say about the traf's the the audience at Kentucky is different than I would say any other audience in college basketball.

00:08:13
Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's pretty obvious. Is that by substantial margin?

00:08:18
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I think anything Kentucky related is the biggest. I mean I think it's almost like Cowboys in the NFL, Like people are always like, why do you always talk about the Cowboys on ESPN? Because the numbers show that people tune in when you talk about the Cowboys, whether people like it or not. So I think Kentucky is that in college So.

00:08:39
Speaker 5: When you so so, the point being, you guys all will end up following Kentucky quite a bit. When you've watched Kentucky this year as a neutral, third party observer, what has been your your conclusion about the team?

00:08:55
Speaker 7: Well, I mean we actually were talking about this the other day because we're trying to figure out a trip to Kentucky. Uh, We're trying to figure out kut what the story is with Kentucky. They just seem disconnected you know, And I think that to me is probably the most obvious thing in their losses. I think even saw in the first half early against Indiana, they just don't seem like they're in sync. Like to me, I don't think in my time covering basketball that I've ever covered a team where you didn't know definitively who your number one, number two, number three options were.

00:09:27
Speaker 2: Like, I feel like this.

00:09:27
Speaker 7: Is a team that feels like there are seven guys that think they're the number one or two options and that just never works. No team has ever had that situation in one big Like, at some point you got to figure out who's the guy, and you also just have to realize your strengths. And I think Barkley did a good job talking about this in the Indianay too.

00:09:45
Speaker 2: I thought he's surprisingly for a guy who clearly had.

00:09:48
Speaker 5: Never seen them play. I actually thought he did a good job of pointing out the deficiencies.

00:09:54
Speaker 7: But I think this is why, and again, the analytics era is incredible. I think we get a lot of information the analytics that have changed the way that we see basketball. I also think we get obsessed with the numbers sometimes that you can't do the basic things, and it wasn't hard to look at that team and go, wait a minute, Yes they're missing shots, but why aren't guys rebounding?

00:10:14
Speaker 8: Like?

00:10:14
Speaker 7: Why are guys getting back on defense? Whying guys making the extra pass? Like the stuff that I felt like has been wrong in Kentucky is very elementary and fundamental, and I think Indiana and the second half they kind of figure some things out, but it's been disappointing overall. And I think you got to put that on Mark Pope. He said this is what he wanted. He knew the expectations. Now you got to deal with it.

00:10:32
Speaker 5: Do you think it was a poorly assembled team?

00:10:38
Speaker 7: This is not Major League Baseball, it's not the NBA, it's not the NFL. So my challenge with poorly assembled is I think it's very difficult in this era to have all the right pieces for any team Like Kansas last year had all these great transfers, it didn't work. There's been a lot of teams North Carolina, North Carolina, a lot of teams have put these team together and it just hasn't worked because it's more complicated than fifteen points per game. I think the numbers have made people nationally go, well, wait a minute, you can't spend that amount of money and not figure it out. But the teams that I know that haven't worked behind the scenes, and I don't care what I know. Mark Pope and others are saying there's nothing wrong. The teams that haven't worked behind the scenes just don't really vibe with each other like I do these stories, Matt. I've done them for fifteen years, where you go hang out with a team, and the teams that like each other, you can see it. The teams that vibe together, you can see it. And I just haven't seen that with Kentucky yet. I have a lot of people saying that there's nothing wrong, but I don't see it so far. Now, Shannon that Mark Pope on his showlet yesterday. Yeah, he said two things I thought were reporting. One he said, this team is still going to be a really good shooting team.

00:11:48
Speaker 2: You believe that, No, I.

00:11:50
Speaker 3: Don't, because we're not three or four games in. We're eleven games in, and they still have not shown that they can shoot the ball. And it's like they do, you know, they shoot the ball well in practice, but that's not translating to end the game.

00:12:01
Speaker 4: I don't care how they.

00:12:02
Speaker 3: Shoot in practice, I don't care about what I'm seeing, and it's not good.

00:12:05
Speaker 5: And then the second thing he said is he's been he's been speaking with a lower tone of voice recently, and it's led some fans to say that I want my coach to have emotion. But Myron he said yesterday that he yelled so much for a month that his doctors have told him he's not allowed to scream until after New Year's, that he has to that he he is going to like ruin his voice, and so that's why he's not yelling, is he's not allowed to yell until after New Year's.

00:12:39
Speaker 7: What's your thought on that? Yeah, I didn't understand that. I mean the Brandon Garrison when he yelled at him to get on the bitch. That was the first time I think I've ever seen Mark Pop yell. You know, I don't know that I'm in practice.

00:12:51
Speaker 5: I've seen him yell in practice, like not liking an ang He just yells, like you know how I mean, I talk with power in my voice.

00:12:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, he just yells.

00:13:00
Speaker 5: I think sometimes when he talks, not in an angry way, just that's how he communicates. Do you think he can go weeks without yelling. I don't think he'll go a day with that. I mean like he's been very monotone. I mean he's been very monotone recently.

00:13:17
Speaker 4: We didn't have a coach on vocal rest.

00:13:19
Speaker 3: He's not Mariah Carrey, no, right, I mean like, I don't care if he doesn't have a voice.

00:13:23
Speaker 4: At the end of the year, I need my coach doing what it needs.

00:13:25
Speaker 5: You want him no matter what, even if he even if his vocal.

00:13:30
Speaker 4: That's what it takes.

00:13:32
Speaker 7: Sometimes sometimes you need a second opinion, right, Like the guys go and get ACL six, Go find a doctor who will let you yell. You know, there's a doctor out there who will let you do it. But your general okay, yeah, there will. I think in general though, I think with Mark Polpe and I told you this on the show, he's really smart. Like he's smarter than any coach probably at college basketball, in terms of if he didn't have basketball, he'd be okay. And the guy went to medical school, and I think that's a cool thing. Sometimes, however, without even trying, you can sound like you're trying to be smarter than everybody else. And I don't think Mark Pope is doing that, but his delivery his intellect in moments like this, So they could be somewhat of a turn off to people sometimes because you're like, hey, man, just talk to us, Man, just talk to.

00:14:14
Speaker 2: Us about coach. Who's the dumbest coaching? I mean nobody shan't nobody. I don't think.

00:14:19
Speaker 5: I don't just say if you were this. Okay, let's not say that's not true. I've talked to you private.

00:14:24
Speaker 4: Who's the least who is the one that.

00:14:26
Speaker 5: Would be least likely to go to med's school? Okay, you said you said Mark Pope went to med school. Which coach of a big time program is least likely to go to med school? Okay, this is not about intellect. Okay, right, we're gonna get an answer. I like this, who's least likely to go to med school? This is not about intellect.

00:14:46
Speaker 7: Mick Cronin probably ends up fighting a professor, would sue, you know what I mean, So like you won't do it. He probably can't just say which one is not can't get into med school? So you want me to name a coach that you just said who's the dumbest coach? And then a week from now, maybe I have to call that coach.

00:15:06
Speaker 2: Isn't that what we want? Yeah, thats what we all want. That's what we want.

00:15:09
Speaker 7: Yeah, I'll let you tell. I'll let you headle that you named the coach, but I don't know him.

00:15:13
Speaker 2: You know them?

00:15:14
Speaker 5: If I'm eighty seven, text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. Could you go weeks without yelling? I think I could, but I don't know if like a Shannon could. I think all of us could. I don't know if you could. If you're a basketball I'm not a yeller. I don't just y know.

00:15:32
Speaker 2: I means that.

00:15:33
Speaker 5: Would be very, very difficult. We'll take a break. Very back, KSR, welcome back. Take you sports radio text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights, Matt, did you practice during Monday night football last night? I did, Channon, I put it on mute yep and just called about a quarter of the game.

00:15:51
Speaker 4: How do you feel about it? You have more confidence?

00:15:53
Speaker 5: Really awkward, felt really awkward at first, but as it went on started to get you know, I didn't have like meyron there to kind of play off of, so like I'd do it and then there'd be silence. Yeah, and talking to yourself out loud is weird, like like it's it's weird to just talk to yourself out loud. But uh, but I but I got more used to it, and I'm gonna I'm gonna keep I'm doing one game every night for the next for the next week.

00:16:19
Speaker 2: But myron, so I feel better about it.

00:16:22
Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, but you know, the best commentators, that's that's honestly what they do. So I was at a game once where Gus Johnson and I was staying at the same hotel before a basketball game that he was calling, and I get ready to drive to the game and Gus Johnson is in the parking lot calling.

00:16:38
Speaker 2: This imaginary game.

00:16:39
Speaker 7: I kid you outside, he's outside of his car, He's yelling, he's jumping like he's doing Oh. It was almost like knowing e powerful voice he was doing the Gus Johnson calls invoice standing in a parking lot in the middle of Indiana doing all of his calls two hours before the game.

00:17:00
Speaker 2: I've never seen anything like it.

00:17:01
Speaker 7: But like, I think that's how locked in you have to be, uh to kind of play that role well.

00:17:07
Speaker 5: And as we said, like they wouldn't have hired me ad Myron to be like real announcers, like they're expecting us to be to be to be us. One person writes, Matt, it's nice to have Matt Jones and Black Jones on the same show. That's what you called yourself right when I was gone.

00:17:25
Speaker 7: Yeah, when we hang out without you, Yeah, it's a fun show. Like it's like your parents give you the keys to the house for the weekend because they gotta go away. We gotta just do our things. So yeah, Black Jones, let's waffle house. Oh man, So many conversations about how there.

00:17:39
Speaker 5: One person writes, Matt, you, uh, were gonna try to get Myron in trouble by talking about the coaches. So I'll ask him one, what's it like actually working with Matt behind the scenes?

00:17:51
Speaker 2: Is he difficult? All right? There you go? Is that? What do you think? How would you answer that Myron to find difficult? Was that? What do they mean?

00:18:02
Speaker 7: Answer it however you want. It's fine, Mat and I are good. I don't have any issue. I mean, there was devil a period where I felt like we would have screaming matches, like eight minutes before we had to start a show and we figure it out.

00:18:18
Speaker 5: But nah, we we can sometimes shan and literally be yelling at each other and then they go thirty seconds and we turn it off and we'd be fine.

00:18:28
Speaker 3: It sounds like a perfectly normal, healthy relationship to me.

00:18:32
Speaker 7: I mean, next week, that could be some of that. Like, that could be a little bit of that next week.

00:18:37
Speaker 5: He's a little stubborn, Shannon in a way that you like, he's a little stubborn like you guys. If I say we're gonna do this, y'all are like, we're doing it. Myron sometimes is like, we're not doing that.

00:18:49
Speaker 4: You're a little stubborn.

00:18:50
Speaker 2: Though, wait, I mean that's true Matt.

00:18:55
Speaker 7: So so we have a running joke like before Mattle Jump on the pre show, we'll start to plan the show, but and we always are like, well, Matt might change all this, because you know, Matt likes to be organized and he likes to call the shots.

00:19:06
Speaker 2: And move things around.

00:19:11
Speaker 5: One first writes, Myron needs to know peanut butter doesn't stick to jelly.

00:19:16
Speaker 2: It actually sticks to bread.

00:19:20
Speaker 5: The whole thing up because he's because he said peanut but like peanut butter stuck to jelly.

00:19:27
Speaker 4: Do you put your jelly Peter.

00:19:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, I gotta start actually sticks to the bread. I gotta start from scratch. No, I gotta I got a bunch of peanut butter and jelly catch raises.

00:19:39
Speaker 5: I gotta go back to the gotta go back to the draw your jelly.

00:19:47
Speaker 2: This uh.

00:19:48
Speaker 5: For Louisville's Bowl game against Toledo, the Boca Ratone Bowl, you can get into the game for free.

00:19:58
Speaker 2: If you bring a ca of baked beans to the game.

00:20:01
Speaker 4: Why do they want baked beans?

00:20:03
Speaker 5: Because it is the Baked Bean Bow it is sponsored by Bush's Baked Beans. But I don't understand why Bush's Baked Beans would need more baked.

00:20:12
Speaker 3: Beans because they want more money and then that gets you into the game.

00:20:18
Speaker 7: Well, concessions are gonna be ridiculous. I bet they're gonna make a lot of money, probably off concession. I don't know if you want to let people in Florida in for free, I mean, like there's gonna be a whole that's gonna be a different kind of crowd.

00:20:31
Speaker 2: Man.

00:20:32
Speaker 5: Well, I think they probably for Louisville to security situation, they probably need to get people in the stadium however they can. But I do like the idea that if you bring a can of beans to the game, you get in for free. That's Bush's bake beans, only be the company that has sponsored it. Yah see, there's gonna be a problem at the door.

00:20:53
Speaker 7: Somebody's gonna bring some baked beans that are not bushes, and it's gonna be a conflict.

00:20:57
Speaker 3: So you can guarantee a bowl game for essentially one two dollars and fifty cents or I don't know how much.

00:21:03
Speaker 5: How much is it can mean two dollars, three dollars? Are you all that rich that you've never been to a grocery store? It's cass had That is cass Hard.

00:21:13
Speaker 7: That's successful that you have never been to a grocery store, and I haven't.

00:21:18
Speaker 2: I haven't bought beans in a while. Let's go to Josh. Go ahead, Josh, that's okay, Hello, Jish, Yeah, okay, Hey, I want to.

00:21:29
Speaker 9: Give a quick happy birthday shut out to Kentucky unforgettable Darren Fieldhouse.

00:21:34
Speaker 2: Happy birthday? Darren? Is your name? Jish?

00:21:39
Speaker 9: Oh No, it's a nickname, nick.

00:21:41
Speaker 2: Okay, got all right? Cool? Go ahead.

00:21:45
Speaker 9: So while I'm on the Fieldhouse topic, Belmont's coming in Man and they're robbing the state of Kentucky. I feel like Jake Fieldhouse is having a tremendous season at mass Essential. I think it's something. I mean, who's Mark Pope getting next year as a freshman?

00:22:03
Speaker 5: Well, I mean it is a good question about who he's getting. I'm not sure that I appreciate the call that that that the answer is from Madison Central, although that kid is playing well. But Myron, do you are you worried about Mark Pope's recruiting? Still no commitments for next year?

00:22:21
Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like there's a divide right there.

00:22:25
Speaker 7: The they're the and I think Kentucky's one of the programs a lot like I'll say North Carolina, maybe Kansas, where there's this idea of even in the portal era, you still want to go after top prospects, right But I think but Dwayne top prospects Carolina is Kansas is the only team that has in is Kentucky. Yeah, I think this year has been unique with freshmen, right, Like the freshman classes have not looked like this in past years.

00:22:53
Speaker 2: If you tell me time, we got to break here real quick, We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky's works Radio. Okay, TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

00:23:03
Speaker 5: He'll make them.

00:23:03
Speaker 3: Pay now, Morgan Tucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:08
Speaker 4: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:09
Speaker 2: This was for me.

00:23:10
Speaker 5: I know, I appreciate that a lot of people don't know this. I bet no one else knows this song except me and you.

00:23:17
Speaker 3: What was this? Uh space ghosts? And this is brack that's right, singing about beans.

00:23:24
Speaker 2: Singing about beans. That's right. Beans.

00:23:27
Speaker 5: By the way, Myron, two dollars and thirty nine cents, so you can you know, it's only the first two thousand people that get in to the Boca Ratone Bowl with with two dollars.

00:23:37
Speaker 2: And thirty nine cent beans.

00:23:40
Speaker 7: Once you get past nineteen hundred, it's gonna be a fight in that In that line, you're gonna be skipping.

00:23:45
Speaker 5: People skipping will end up in a bowl game where they're playing Toledo for beans.

00:23:50
Speaker 2: Like they were like though they were going in the playoff. Literally, that's a classic line man.

00:23:58
Speaker 5: Move away from the play off to playing Bledo for baked beans.

00:24:04
Speaker 2: That's true, that's true. Is this the Old West? Shannon? What's happening to?

00:24:09
Speaker 4: These ball games are ridiculous? Anyway?

00:24:11
Speaker 2: I love them, but I have to say, what person rights?

00:24:13
Speaker 5: Does Myron know that his play by play guy just learned yesterday that referees wear white hats.

00:24:20
Speaker 7: Yeah, we got some stuff we gonna have to figure out that. No, I think I'm curious, Matt, what the meeting is gonna be like, because you know, before these broadcasts and I've done a bunch of ESPN games, there's like a big meeting where everyone kind of walks through the game. Like, I wonder what that's gonna be like. You know how how the people with us are gonna feel well, they're.

00:24:39
Speaker 2: Gonna have to get over it.

00:24:40
Speaker 5: What person says, Matt, I've been doing play by play for thirty five years from my local high school. I cannot imagine doing your first play by play game on national radio. I feel like you could do it, but I would be nervous as can be. Thank you very much.

00:24:56
Speaker 4: I appreciate it's gonna make you feel better about the situation.

00:24:59
Speaker 5: Nah.

00:25:00
Speaker 7: No, man, I've done my first play by player on ESPN National TV and it went okay. Like the good thing about production, I will say this because I've done games is we're gonna get a lot of help, Like there are a lot of smart people who are going to be around us, who are gonna make it pretty easy.

00:25:15
Speaker 5: Well, Billy got both. Billy got bumped. You stat, he can't go, So I got it. I'm talking to my new stat guy after the show, which I wanted Billy to go. But probably the new guy will know more about what's going on.

00:25:29
Speaker 4: But you don't know the new guy like you think.

00:25:32
Speaker 5: That's true. I'm meeting him. His name is Kirk. And do you know him? Do you know Kirk? The stack guy?

00:25:38
Speaker 2: Myron? How would I know him?

00:25:41
Speaker 6: I don't.

00:25:42
Speaker 2: That's that's all you have? Is that all you done? Last name? The stats for games? So where for? Who?

00:25:52
Speaker 7: Who does he work for ESPN? Maybe I've maybe I've worked with him. We'll be embarrassing for it if he gets down here. Uh and he and he does it?

00:26:01
Speaker 2: Know him? Tonight Tennessee plays Louisville. Who do we root for? Shannon?

00:26:06
Speaker 6: Who? Well?

00:26:07
Speaker 3: I think we got to stay with the conference. You know the SEC, So I think we gotta pull for Tennessee to beat Louisville.

00:26:13
Speaker 5: Tennessee's lost three straight games, they're playing at home. This could be their fourth straight loss. I'm kind of with you, I guess I have to pull for Tennessee. Who's gonna win Myron.

00:26:24
Speaker 7: I'll probably picked Louisville, I think in this one. I mean Mike cul Brown junior uh is pretty good. Uh. And I think Tennessee Nate Amen has been off. He's had a lot of up and down performances. Like Tennessee's challenges is basically Jacobe Gillespie Nate Amen. And if they can't score forty combined, Tennessee has a hard time within him. They lost to Syracuse, and I don't think Syracuse is great.

00:26:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, and then Syracuse like Costra or something, didn't They lost to hog Street.

00:26:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, so the Florida Tennessee is pretty low. Yeah, I think Tennessee that was an awful loss to Syracuse. Joe, go ahead, Joe.

00:27:01
Speaker 6: Yeah. Hey, guys, something interesting from the IU game. When you look at the box score, Kentucky actually lost the rebounding margins. Now, I think we got every rebound that mattered, all the fifty to fifty balls from an effort.

00:27:15
Speaker 5: Well, a couple things about that, though you're talking total rebounds, I would say two things. One you may remember they got like five or six rebounds at the end of the game when they were shooting desperation threes.

00:27:25
Speaker 2: You remember in that last minute too.

00:27:27
Speaker 5: But I think the biggest part of that is the free is the free throws. We missed seven free throws that they rebounded and they only missed one that we rebounded. So that's a six rebound difference right there, really just on free throws which aren't even really contested.

00:27:43
Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, that's fair, that's fair, and appreciate that point. And one more thing. As you guys were talking, I think you guys have hit the nail on the head of this Kentucky team from shooting to you know, team gelling together whatnot. Jasper Johnson only played three minutes. Now, I know Hope trunk the lineup down, But to Jaster Johnson's credit, I watched him. He was standing on the sideline coaching his team, clapping, pointing things out like it was really kind of nice to see with jo Landlow getting that spotlight and really carrying the team through that second half.

00:28:16
Speaker 5: I actually agree with you about Jasper. You were about to appreciate the call. You were about to say something marred about the rebounds. We got to teach people about the rebinding war like. One of the challenges is we use sometimes like this old school terminology. I think what Matt is most people talking about rebounding, like in terms of off of the rebounds. Kentucky actually won that battle.

00:28:34
Speaker 7: Fourteen day grabbed like yeah, but they grabbed thirty three percent of their misshots, which is a higher percentage than what Indiana did. I think the other thing with the free throw attempts, I think that's how they have to play like. This is a Kentucky team that hasn't been great about getting to the line. They got to the free throw line against Indiana and that put them in a position to win. And I think the other thing Cope yesterday said, we all said after the game in the second half, Kentucky's gonna have to play like that. I heard Terrence Oglesby on Field of sixty eight say Kentucky's got to play like they did in the second half.

00:29:04
Speaker 2: Charles Barkley said it.

00:29:05
Speaker 5: Mark Pope yesterday said, Myron, we don't want to play like that. We did it because we had to to win that game, but we don't want to play that kind of messy, gritty style. That's not what this team is. I kind of disagree with him, what about you.

00:29:21
Speaker 7: Well, unless he's making a move at the trade deadline, this is what he has so so I don't really know what that means. Like like, Kentucky to me is a team that has to play around the basket, try to score and transition. The turnover thing is a big part that people aren't talking enough about. Four turnovers in that Indiana game matters a lot. But you don't have a bunch of shooters.

00:29:39
Speaker 5: We had four, they had eighteen. That's a huge difference.

00:29:43
Speaker 7: You gotta be a great defensive team, which I think they can be, and you gotta win ugly on offense. You don't have a bunch of shooters who can spread the floor and beat the Golden State Warriors. Everyone can't do that, and that's okay, and that's what this team is. Yeah, let's go to eight nine two, eight, twenty three, eighty seven. Couple open lines. It's a good chance to get in. Go to will, go ahead and will, Hey.

00:30:05
Speaker 10: Fellas, thanks again for taking my call. I was not expecting to get on three days in a row after never calling your.

00:30:10
Speaker 6: Guys show, So shout.

00:30:12
Speaker 5: Out first of all, like three days in a row. I had no idea, how did you get in.

00:30:22
Speaker 2: Three days in a row if it's Tuesday.

00:30:24
Speaker 10: Because because I was gonna say, man, well, I was gonna say I was on Friday. That was my first call ever, and I started ranting about Mike Lee.

00:30:32
Speaker 6: And he didn't want to.

00:30:35
Speaker 10: No, it wasn't hey. And I also wanted to say, shout out Myron. It's good to have a football perspective and an outside perspective. Talking about UK basketball also furthers my Mike Leachs point I made on Friday.

00:30:46
Speaker 2: By the way, well you know I was the head college basketball reporter.

00:30:52
Speaker 10: Well shoot, I thought he did some football. But anyway, also I did want Also I listened to the other day he made the correlation between Dusty May and he wanted a football coach at Michigan similar to their basketball coach. So I felt validated. But anyway, I did want to say something. I think Mark Cope is having trouble with recruiting right now because he cannot promise the guy that they're going to be the alpha on this team.

00:31:18
Speaker 6: He cannot promise the guy thirty five game guy.

00:31:23
Speaker 10: Does That's what and that's I think what's holding him back.

00:31:27
Speaker 6: He needs to promise.

00:31:28
Speaker 5: Guy Wills a lot. There's a lot of words that come out of Will's mouth when he talks. You know what I mean, it's it's it's a lot.

00:31:35
Speaker 4: Maybe maybe take a day off, Will.

00:31:38
Speaker 7: Do you want one but to it? But one thing he said that is interesting. Do you want your best player to be a freshman in this era?

00:31:47
Speaker 5: Well, I don't know. I mean, it depends on who the freshman is. I mean, Cameron Boozer is Duke's best player and they're really good. Darius Acuff is probably arkansas best player and they're playing well. I think it just don't you think, Myron. It just depends on who the freshman is. I don't think you can win if you have a secondary freshman is your best player. But I still think. I mean, the Duke was the best team in the country last year. They lost, but they're their two best players were freshmen.

00:32:19
Speaker 7: But I think you knowled it right, Like we have the problem with the rankings is that there are suddenly fifty eight five star recruits, which it wasn't that way twenty years ago. Right, that's true. If you get one of the five or six guys you're talking about, I'm with you. If you have seven through twenty eight, that's a different ball game.

00:32:37
Speaker 5: But that was Cali Perry's thing is in the early col years, his best player was one through six, and then in the later years it was seven through thirteen. And that's a big difference, Byron, between having John wall Is your best player or Anthony Davis or Carl Towns and having BJ Boston as your best player. It's just a different level of skill.

00:33:00
Speaker 7: Yeah, once you get outside the top five, you have a better chance of getting somebody in a portal who's as good or better than that player coming in, and that that's the challenge. There's five guys you want every year and beyond that, but what amina is last year in the portal. A lot of those guys have ended up good but not great.

00:33:20
Speaker 5: Yaxel has really been the only one of those top seven guys who is leading a great team to success. A lot of these other teams are winning with guys that they kept in house, and I just think that's kind of interesting. It's gonna be interesting to see what works in the portal era. I think there's gonna be a lot of different ways, uh to what's the phrase, Shannon, There are many different ways to skin a cat, to cook the pie.

00:33:45
Speaker 7: To cook the something. I don't think it's cooking. Is there another one about cooking? There's one about cooking. I think it's in a cat.

00:33:52
Speaker 3: There's only one way to cook a pie. I mean it's in the recipe.

00:33:56
Speaker 2: What kind of pie were talking about?

00:33:57
Speaker 7: I don't think one other way with there be to do besides making assumptions about the kind of poe.

00:34:02
Speaker 2: Well, I don't know.

00:34:03
Speaker 7: You know, we got air flyers and there was a time when we didn't have ovens. I don't know, put it over a fire. There's different ways to cook a pot, so I don't think you can make a suck.

00:34:15
Speaker 5: I would argue. There may only be one way to skin a cat. I don't know how, But who's skinning cat on?

00:34:20
Speaker 2: I don't.

00:34:20
Speaker 7: Yeah, is that something we're still saying twenty times. It does feel a little bit problematic, but.

00:34:28
Speaker 5: It's shame and it feels widely problematic, but I'm not sure why it does.

00:34:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe we should let that one go.

00:34:35
Speaker 5: Clayton and Cream was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a lifetime. There's many ways to make a leather good. Everything for bags, belts, wallets and more. Go to Clayton and Cream dot com, that crum me dot com, or visit their flagship store in Louisville at Shelby Street two sixteen, located in New lout quality leather goods, built to last at Claytonancream dot com. My mom told me she's getting one of these Duffel bags from there for me for Christmas.

00:35:01
Speaker 2: Oh yeah. She was like, there are six colors, which one do you want?

00:35:06
Speaker 5: And I was like whatever, whichever one was, Like, would you like this level of the brown or this? I don't know, you know, like I just get do you do you have an opinion of which brown you want?

00:35:17
Speaker 10: No?

00:35:17
Speaker 4: I thought there was just leather brown.

00:35:19
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I don't know multiple browns. Yeah, there's brown. I don't know.

00:35:24
Speaker 7: I got to learn how to wrap gifts. I try to watch YouTube video and I don't know how to do it.

00:35:28
Speaker 5: Dude.

00:35:29
Speaker 2: That's another thing I don't know.

00:35:30
Speaker 4: I was doing the same thing.

00:35:31
Speaker 5: I'll just get bags and put the little fluffy paper there you go.

00:35:35
Speaker 7: Yeah, but they say bags are informal. Though they say bags are like not, they're informal. That's how people some people see it. Bags well versus gift. I think people expect it from me. They're lucky they get the bag. We'll take a break of right backs. Canentuck you sports radio? Welcome back?

00:35:53
Speaker 5: I tell you sports radio if I'm notine two eighth twenty two eighty seven. Uh, text machine is seven seven two seven to seven four or five two five four? One person rights, I'm have to start listening to you and Myron on Sunday mornings. Myron seems like a really great guy. That's a lot of fun. How about that?

00:36:09
Speaker 2: That's nice?

00:36:11
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I appreciate that. Now I get a lot of love and support when I fill in. Uh here, so now you know me.

00:36:18
Speaker 5: Another person rights. I need Myron to not do the catchphrases. I love him, and I think they're not gonna work. But I do have to say, in the similar way that people want to see a car wreck, I need to hear his other peanut butter and jelly catchphrases.

00:36:35
Speaker 2: All right, So he gave us one.

00:36:36
Speaker 5: It was it stuck to his hands like peanut butter and jelly, which we realize, Shanon, peanut butter doesn't stick to jelly, so that one does go right.

00:36:45
Speaker 7: So what's your second one? Like, so make a big defensive play. Let's say they get an interception and it shuts down why I'm.

00:36:53
Speaker 5: Living with the head at the line stops him for a one yard loss. And that's the kind of stop that comes Matt when you our team is together, like peanut butter and jelly. Hold on, I'm asking, I'm workshopping this, Like y'all are just laughing at me.

00:37:13
Speaker 2: I know, but you're just laughing and you're not critiquing. I mean, like.

00:37:16
Speaker 5: Healthy gives a hit, you want it to not be stuck together. It's like powerful, so you want to be like that hit was as hard as Bob not stunck to. I feel like you're trying to force in stuck together like peanut butter and jelly.

00:37:32
Speaker 2: That's all I got right now.

00:37:33
Speaker 7: So I mean, I got a week, but peanut butter and jelly is kind of what I was thinking of.

00:37:37
Speaker 2: So yeah, away from the peanut butter and jelly.

00:37:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe like try something different. You know, there's other foods you could use.

00:37:45
Speaker 2: I don't know, there's a lot of foods. How about baked beans, So.

00:37:48
Speaker 5: You go, I don't know how to throw baking They're leaking out like after you.

00:37:54
Speaker 2: No, they're gonna cut us.

00:37:57
Speaker 7: They're gonna cut the game beat and put on like a Adam Shefter podcast.

00:38:01
Speaker 2: If we do that, you know, we got we gotta.

00:38:04
Speaker 7: Get through the actual game itself, shifter, you know, I gotta, I gotta. I'll get better. No, I'll get better. I'll figure it out.

00:38:12
Speaker 5: Listen, I'll figure I would just say to you, this is my only piece of advice. You're gonna need to give me advice because again, I've never called a game. Just remember, we just have to do our thing, just me and you talking like we don't have to be like these other people, because if we try to be like these other people, we're not gonna be good because they've been doing it their whole life.

00:38:33
Speaker 3: Matt wants to take phone calls during a play by play call of a game that's.

00:38:38
Speaker 7: You can't take a phone call that He mentioned that, and I think I get the sense that people at ESPN are a little nervous, Like they don't say it, but when I talk to them about this game, they go like, you know, let.

00:38:52
Speaker 2: Me give you an example. Third and two.

00:38:55
Speaker 5: We gotta time out on the field. Let's go to the phones. Cadence is on Cadence, what do you, Cadence.

00:39:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that. In the middle of Cadences, Myron Cadence is on the air.

00:39:07
Speaker 8: Go all right. First of all, we're gonna have to fix that a Louisville pronunciations at Louisville.

00:39:15
Speaker 6: It's Louisville. Are you all casts A.

00:39:20
Speaker 11: Second thing?

00:39:20
Speaker 6: I would like to say, hold I second, how.

00:39:23
Speaker 2: Did you say it? How did you say it, Cadence? How did you say it Louisville? All right, so try that Myron Louisville. He said Lousa.

00:39:31
Speaker 7: No, sounds like an eighty seven eighty seven Chevy louis That's how we said.

00:39:38
Speaker 2: Louisville.

00:39:39
Speaker 7: Lover love it, love it?

00:39:44
Speaker 2: He can't love How about it? How about it? Love Conda? Is that good? Cadence?

00:39:49
Speaker 8: All right?

00:39:50
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that'll be honest. I'll do all I can think.

00:39:53
Speaker 8: I would like to say, though, With basketball, uh, I want to know why we So we have a really deep team, right, really extensive roster. Our team or rosters to considered one of the deepest in the nation. Right, But when you look at other teams, like say Logo, for example, their team might not be as deep but they have three elite guys that can score with Michael Brown and the other two guards. I think Ryan Conley. I don't know the other, but he But why can't we do something like that? Why have we have.

00:40:24
Speaker 5: That's a fair question. I appreciate the Carl Cadence. What do you think Kentucky Myron has elite players?

00:40:30
Speaker 2: Yes, they definitely have.

00:40:32
Speaker 5: Who are the elite.

00:40:32
Speaker 2: Players on the roster in your mind right now? Well, even though he's not playing like them, you got Otega you start there with the sec. Do you think he's an elite player? I think he has to be.

00:40:43
Speaker 5: Okay, I don't know. Has to be Low as well? Right, Low has to be I think Denzel has to be that. But I mean, do you think Denzel Aberdeen's an elite player?

00:40:54
Speaker 2: He has to be?

00:40:57
Speaker 7: Like to me, what it comes down to is you don't have a choice if you're gonna be good. I think the other thing is depth is the most overrated thing that I sport. Once you get to mid January, you got six or seven guys who are really playing for every team in America, Like nobody's playing eleven guys, ten guys. It just doesn't happen so you got to figure out who you're six or seven guys out.

00:41:14
Speaker 5: Of this group that you can depend on. I agree with your depth is overrated, Jordan, I got a minute.

00:41:19
Speaker 2: Go ahead.

00:41:20
Speaker 11: Oh hang them. Hey, Matte, it's good to hear you on. Myron's going to have you on.

00:41:26
Speaker 6: Appreciate it real quick.

00:41:28
Speaker 11: I don't care how Kentucky has to play to win. I don't get if we win dirty. I just can't see his view what we did against Gonzaga. And then Ma's going to have you on because you know, Matt with his wrestling love, likes to give a rub, so maybe he can give you one.

00:41:46
Speaker 2: I appreciate that you he heard that, Myron.

00:41:49
Speaker 5: You know you don't like the wrestling phrase give someone a rub. You don't like if someone a rub going out on their back. I don't know what y'all were talking about. It just that's not that's not a thing. I want to be a potto man. Well, no, I appreciate you being a part of this show for an hour on Late Notice. The New Orleans Bowl is one week from today at five o'clock.

00:42:11
Speaker 2: We're gonna die out for dinner in New Orleans. We're gonna have a.

00:42:14
Speaker 5: Fun night, and then we're gonna call the greatest football game of all time. Myron, let's do it. Let's do it, Adam, look, it'll join us for hour or two. Thank you Myron for being with us. We'll take a break, be right back to kis Her
