Three Generations of Bachelor Superfans

Speaker 1: Welcome back, everybody to another episode of Baster Happy Hour. We have a really fun episode for you guys today, and we're going to shake things up a bit. And I feel like we've been saying that over the last couple of weeks, and I think you guys have enjoyed it because ever since the Greatest Thing has ever started airing, we've been noticing that we have some true die hard fans that have really comes to life. Like we know there's this Bachelor Nation, but you guys are I don't know. It's just like coming out of the woodwork, sharing all the knowledge that you have and kind of congregating together, reminiscing over past seasons, and it's really been kind of fun to watch. So you guys amaze us with your Bachelor knowledge. You honestly teach us a few things, because I don't know if we're as in depth with Bachelor Nation knowledge as some of the die hard fans are, but that's okay. We love to learn. We love to learn, and you guys are our listeners and we love that you're so into it and we appreciate it, love to see it. This franchise has been around for such a long time. And it's really created an army of viewers to call you a nation. And today we wanted to honor you guys just a little bit. And what I love so much about this franchise is not only that it's entertaining, but in a lot of cases, it brings people together and across so many generations. You know, you hear these stories of you know, mothers and daughters that watch together, are best friends from across the country that went to college together they watch it, or just a normal watch party where you just want to get faded lats at us on your television screens and have a good time. But honestly, The Bachelor is one of the most fun shows to watch with other people. And I've even been to watch parties. I told you this back. I've been to watch parties before I was on the show, never watched it. I just came for a good time. I couldn't tell you whose season was on the screen. I was just there for the good company. So the bats where it has such a unique ability to bring people together, even the former anti Bachelor people like me and we get we actually get so many sweet messages from you guys about how much the show me is to you and the people that you share this show with. So a couple of weeks ago, we received one message from a fan that both Becca and I thought was absolutely adorable, and we decided we wanted to share the story with you, guys. Rage It really does bring people together. And what I love about doing this podcast with you is, yes, we can watch old seasons and reminisce with the greatest seasons of all time that is going on now. But what I also love is that we do have the ability to shake things up and bring in new people that have watched the show far longer than either of us have. So we did get this really sweet message. So our fan name, her name is Emily Kellman. She's twenty four years old, and she actually wrote to us just this amazing message through DMS. That's kind of how we got connected, and mentioned that during this pandemic and for the past several years, the Bachelor, not only the Bachelor Show, but the spinoffs and our podcasts have really brought her and her family, especially the women in her family, connected and entertained. So in this message, she goes on to explain that it is in fact her grandma Honey, who is get this ninety years old, Yes, I said ninety who actually brought all of the women and her family together. They would watch it every Monday's, like I said, they would watch Listen to Your Heart, all the spinoff shows. They've watched Paradise and now listen to our podcast. But Grandma Honey has been a fan since season one, so for the past eighteen years she has been keeping up with the show. She's connected three generations of the women in the Common family and keeps them communicating no matter what. So unfortunately, because of COVID and the quarantine, they haven't been able to get together physically, but they still connect every Monday night to talk and catch up on all the drama and the recaps that are happening. So it's really keeping them connected and laughing during this time. And Rachel, I don't know about you, but when I heard about Grandma Honey, I just felt like a we needed to bring her on because she, I mean, not only sounds amazing, but she sounds like a hoot too, So I cannot wait to connect with her, to get her on here so the world can meet this woman. Yeah, there was just something that was very sweet about how much this show meant to the Caluman girls and that they could share it amost three generations, which is wild to me. So we decided if Grandma Honey could figure out Zoom, then we would invite them to talk about all things Bachelor. And luckily Grandma Honey is very, very savvy, and so later on today on the show, we're going to have her on, her daughter Leslie and her granddaughter Emily. I can't wait. But before we begin, I want to talk to you first, Rachel, because I know that you know, you never really watched the show before coming on. I think I was the only person in my family prior to me going on The Bachelor that had watched the show. But since then it felt like it bonded my family in this really weird unique way. I mean, you know, my family started tuning in and watching it, and and now a lot of them are just hooks. Like I think, the show just like kind of sucks you in, um, but it really has brought my mom and my sister and I and even my aunts and stuff together in a really new tradition of Monday nights. UM. So I want to first talk with you and see who are some influential women in your life and traditions because I think, you know, we I call this like Monday night tradition, like batch Mondays, But what are some other traditions that you guys have. It's so funny. I hear you talk about like your mom and your sisters, and I'm like, my mom, my mom, like not probably they're like, who's Peter, Who's Hannah? Like they had no idea we watched it for you watching it, I didn't done a little. I feel like it was traumatizing to my family because they're so private and nothing against the franchise because they adore everything that's come out of it for me, and they adore Brian, but it's just I think it's just like tough for them to watch, yeah that knowing that I was on it. But as far as traditions go, I don't. I feel like we don't really have a lot of traditions. I think it's just more of we're really close, but we don't have something that we all do that's, oh, that's the Sheltons, which is my mom's side of the family, or that's the Lindsay's all my dad. More So, I think holidays are assigned to certain families, so when I think of certain holidays, I'm like, oh, well, around Thanksgiving, we usually always go to Houston and spend time with my grandmother, and it's a tradition for us. Like my grandmother, you know, she's had a lot of health issues over the last couple of years, and so she's always loves to be in her room. So it's a tradition that although she's got her living room her dining room, we always end up in her room and we're always in her bed on her chair on the floor, just like laughing and talking about whatever. It is, just reminiscing about old stuff. So it's I mean, it's not a tradition, it's just more of like maybe I haven't Yeah, I guess that's what I would call it. That's so sweet. I love that. I just you know, there's something and it's a little different for me because, you know, my dad passed away when I was nineteen, so my family has been mainly women. My mom and sister and I are super close. My sister just had her first baby a few months ago, so we we brought little Emmy into the world. Ammy is so freaking cute. I can't stand it. Like I couldn't even pass by your story without commenting. I passed by and I went back and I was like, I just need to tell you how adorable your nieces she is. And like, I know people are biased with their nieces and nephews, but I like, I was just with them last weekend and I told my mom and sister, I'm like, I don't think I can ever have kids because my child is not going to be nearly as cute as Emmy, Like, are people are gonna love my kid as much? Probably not. She just like for those of you who haven't like seen on Instagram, she my sister and her husband have like massively curly hair, like so curly, and Emmy has like this mohawk curl going down the front like she just and she just started kissing, so like I'll hold her and big okay kisses, and she'll like lean her face in, but like her head's too heavy, so she'll like fall into you. But yeah, so and that's one thing I mean, I like, she's my first niece. I've never had a niece or nephew before this past year. And so the fact that I'm now an aunt and can carry on things that I've learned and that we've done with in my family is something really special and a whole new thing that I'm learning to navigate. It's kind of scary knowing that, like, you know, not me because I'm not raising her, but like have the ability to kind of, you know, shave her. It's a lot of pressure. So yeah, I'm on. But I think thinking about traditions, I mean kind of like you holidays, Yes, my dad's side of the family actually is like we're huge foodies and so cooking with my aunt and just being in the kitchen during holidays, like that's something that's really special to me. And just sharing recipes, like I think it bonds us in a really special way. But my family, um, we don't really watch a ton of TV, but we love games like that is one tradition when we're all together. Yeah, okay, games, yes, like saying yes we love games like we I mean, if we could have tournaments all weekend long, that's what we would do. What's your go to family game? Oh man? Uh? Well, so growing up when I was younger, because it was easy, was YACHTSI we would play yachts. So we would go to a cabin every summer for a week and we would probably play like five hundred thousand games of Yatsi and would always bet, and so I feel like I was always really good and I won all the money. But I don't know if have you heard of lately. It's not I shouldn't say newer game, but we've been playing Settlers of Catan. We're like, oh my god, you're gonna make so much fun of me. It's like, you build these It's kind of like a Game of Thrones meets Oregon Trail and that's it's fun. It's strategic. You're like building roads and cities and settlements like bargaining. Is it like a computer game? No, it's a board game. But oh wow, why is it called again, Sellers of Catan. I'm such a nerd, I think so. I think it's like, wow, they really are using her brains there. I'm like, meanwhile, our game is Taboo. Oh yeah, oh I love to play Taboo. And then all they do is like I like, make fun of my dad. Yeah, the game just make fun of my dad. So yeah, games is a thing too that yeah, and I guess in playing into that. Like my great grandma, who I mean, she passed away when I was six or seven, But I remember going visiting her in the nursing home and we would always play Kings in the Corner. It's just an easy card game. So that's something I think that's bonded us. Yeah, And it wasn't until I went on The Bachelor where my family started watching the show, and then my uncle's got into it and they like had to make brackets and all these drinking games for the show. So yeah, that's kind of where we land. Do you guys have any I guess do you guys? I know that you love The Real Housewives, but does your family have any shows or movies that bond you guys? My mom, both my parents have a love of westerns and western movies and that's something that they connect over. But my mom loves older movies and so as a kid, she'd always try to make us watch these movies and we couldn't appreciate them. But there was this one movie that we all loved and it's called Splendor in the Grass. Oh, it is so good. It's Natalie Wood. It's a young worn baby, and it's just like a coming of age movie, which are always really really good. So you should watch if you get a chance. It's all that's in color. But that was one of our like movies that we love to watch. Oh that's so sweet. Well, so I'm in Minnesota right now, staying with my mom, and so we're always looking for cute movies to watch. We watched Hope Floats the other day, which I don't know, like, I know that I've seen it when I saw it when I was little, but I didn't remember it. And so here I am like sobbing with my mom because Sandra Bullock's mom dies at the end and it's just that was a sweet one. Um, have you maybe this is just me. I'm obsessed with this movie. Have you ever seen or watched it with your family? The First Wives Club? Oh, it is one of my favorite movies. No, I don't watch it though with my family. It's one of my personal Yeah. Wait, Becca, you don't understand. In eighth grade, there was a talent show and we did you do this too? No, but my sister I want to be them for Halloween. Okay you should, And we dressed up at the end and saying you don't known me? Yeah, I just we did the whole dance and then it was like such a big deal. And my job went to up small school where they were like forty people in my class and they were like Encore Encore and they were like, uh I get a woman. Yeah, where people had like who had like the white power suit. We didn't dress up in costume, just all took on characters in the movie. I didn't remember which one I was, but like I might even Goldie Han because I feel like I remember standing on the chair I figure out in the air and you know it's so I love obsessed with that movie. So it's that girls movie that, yes, I would say I was trying to rack my brain for like movies that really have brought my family together, but for the females in my family with my mom and sister, First Wives Club hands down, Like I remember watching that when I was like god seven or eight, and like the scene when they're like in the window washing and it's like going down and even like, um, I don't know why this is always except to me, but when they're all with their they're all have holding their glasses of champagne and they all throw their rings in the champagne and yeah, cheers. It's just it's such a badass Field like a strong woman movie that if you are listening and haven't seen that, this is your homework for the week is to go watch First Wives Club because you will not be disappointed and then learn the words you don't know me? Because that song to come out when it did back in the day Leslie Gore singing it is so freaking powerful. It should top the Billboard charts now because of the power and that song and the guts that she had to come out with it back in the day. Shall we shall we sing a verse? We could? What? What do you do? You want to start? Or do you want me to take it? Oh? Good? Something again? Something again? Oh? Man? One two? Sorry, you don't know me, don't try to change me in okay anyway? Oh I definitely I can catch up theirself. Let me let me kick it off for you and tell me you love to duke. Don't tell them that what was today? And where that I want? Oh? Just okay, this is going and I'm not a baby. I'm free and I love to be free. You're dances where that I want to say? And do I still remember the dance moves? I mean, how badly did you want to take a handkerchief, run on the street and say you don't know me, No, don't know me. So she could. And you know what, when Hannah Brown Susan came out and that was her theme, so, I mean it wasn't the original, but just the was her thing song where yeah, don't you remember thought? Uh it was like her promivideo marking through the Woods, the commercial. Yeah, and that was her song. And I was like, Okay, I actually don't like it they gave her that song now because that was a miss opportunity bachelor marketing for her. When she removed her skirt, she should have taken a handkerchief out of her to her top and swung it around. That was a miss opportunity. Should we refilm it? I didn't either thing on that. No, we'll save it for the next bachelor. Oh my gosh, what a miss opportunity. And you guys hold us accountable for this. When Becca and I get together, we're gonna watch the movie. We're gonna get wine waisted. We're going to get our handkerchiefs or rip off our masks because COVID s. We're gonna march down the street and we're gonna say to that look that mask in the face to say you don't know me. No, no, I'm okay, cut that part out please to night. I'm watching that. No, I'm gonna keep it. I'm watching that movie. It's so good. Seriously, we shall recap movies. We gotta get two more badass women with us, and we need to do this for Halloween. Wait one more, Well I need three people? No four? No three? Rachel, Wait, who's the fourth? There is a goldie hat Diane Keaton and then the one with the um Wait no, it's oh my god, am I thinking of the one that died? The fourth recommensions? Oh yeah, that's the first five Rizzo from Greece. Yes, that's okay, five movement. I mean, so she really brought him together. But the dances three people. So remember last week when we were talking about movies and like who would play our family? So my mom, my mom was obsessed with Diane Keaton because of this movie, so she was kind of upset that I went with. Well, she she also loves Sally Field, so she was okay, So both are great choices, but you're right one way. I was like, there were clearly three, and I only know because we reenact I'm telling you we did this at a talent show. That's how I know. Yeah, shout out to shout out to Aaron Ross, now Taylor and Robin Rankin, who are my fellow? Please tell me you have this on a home video, Aaron, Aaron does it is on a video somewhere if you were listening. We need this And here's the We'll say this because Beck and I could keep talking about this movie and we'll move on. But the sad thing is, we thought we were so cool and we nailed it. And I remember watching it back, maybe like a few years later, seniors in high school. It's the most pitiful performance that I've ever You were an encore though, Yeah, all forty people in the audience. It's like great graduation. Okay, I want to see it. I feel like, guys, if you haven't, you will fill our joy. You have to go this movie. You need to hear the song. You will fill our joy right to us. Tell us your own first Wives Club stories, because we want to share with you. Guys. Clearly we're obsessed with it and we didn't know we loved it this much together. This is something that we talked about doing, and we've always wanted to connect with you guys in a more intimate way, and now we get to do that. And so we're doing it with these lovely women three generations. We're having Emily, her mother Leslie, and her grandmother Honey all along to talk about their love with the Bachelor franchise and to hear about how it brings their family together. All right to start real quick, um, let's just explain who you all are in each other's family and kind of how your relationship has been built around the Bachelor. Sure, I'll go first, So Hi everyone, I'm Emily. I am twenty four years old. I am currently back in Westchester in the house I grew up in. Thank you, COVID nineteen and today with me. I'll let them introduce themselves, but I have my mom and my grandma who is super special. Hi everybody, I'm Leslie. I'm Emily's mon. I'm older than twenty four and younger than grandma, honey, So you know, pick whichever number in between you really want, because I'm open to that. Um and seven. Thank you that works. And you know, we are a really close family and of strong women, smart women, and we love to look for things to keep us close, and you know what, Bachelor Nation has done that for us. So thank you for that, especially in these you know, the co vocation as I call it times. Yeah, and last but not least, the woman honey, And I don't have to tend to how old I am because everybody knows at this point. And I was lucky that my son shows Leslie because she really is a daughter to me, and Emily is my angel from angels warm, considerate, loving, the whole family is They're just wonderful. And I think just reading your message and knowing that you hit the nail on the head about being strong women and that you connect by watching this show, and like Becca and I, we like we like to consider ourselves as strong women. Becca and and I love that we've been able to showcase that through the Bachelor franchise. So I have to ask you, guys, though the show connects you, but what is it that you love so much about the show. I think it's it's the romance, it's the love, it's the happy and every so often, I mean, you see the kookie characters, but you see the real people also. Um, and like my mom raised me and my grandma raised me, you have to be strong as a woman and you really have to advocate for yourself, and you definitely see that through bits and pieces of the show. And I think I mean that coupled with the entertainment and the fact that the three of us are able to watch together and text every Monday with my grandma, who is my only grandparent left. UM, it's a really just nice way to connect all of us. So the reason I love the show is I like, um, I like the thought of happily ever after. Um, I like the happy you know, the happy endings. Like not those kind of happy endings, but you know what I mean, happy endings, So um, you know, And I call bachelor and night. I called Monday nights our bachelor parties. And we have a bachelor party every Monday night. I invite Emily's best friends since kindergarten over Tara and her mom, Debby, who's my friend. We have dinner then Emily, you know, and Grandma Honey and I are in a three way text group. We have so much fun, and you know, it's another connection that well, we'll be part of the family lore. And it also keeps us connected to Grandma Honey, whose we always want to be connected Grandma Honey, and she is our matriarch. So that's what And I love I love the women on this show because I don't like when they fight, because I don't think that shows women in their best life. I hate that. But I like, like the two of you are so great for women to see strong, outspoken individuals and who don't necessarily need a man to complete them, but want that part of their life. So I like to see those professional, professional women like you in the franchise. I think that's what your women. Thank you so much for saying that. Thank you. I have grandmachney. What is it that you love? I have been watching the show since day one, and my husband and I had we like some of the same things, and I said, ah, I watch you to watch a cookie show tonight. You don't have to stay with it. Well we will both fat. We watched every single week and my girlfriends now, no, they're not loud to call on me on Monday nights because I'm at my body and it just I'm a romantic at heart. What could I say? I'm always looking for the better and it's a show that makes me happy. There are sad moments, but basically it makes me feel happy. I'm getting together with the two of them. I can't tell you what that means to me, because it's a connection that I love that maybe I wouldn't have during the week. They're busy, they're working. It's just it's a wonderful connection and I look forward to Monday nights. That's so sweet. I love that you said that you're romantic. I feel like some people, especially in the newer seasons, they watch it more for the drama than the real life love story and connection that's taking place. So Grandma, honey, it sounds like you are maybe a hopeless romantic. But Emily and Leslie, would you too consider yourself as the same. Go first, I would saying yes. So I've been getting my boyfriend now for a little bit over a year, and there are definitely parts of our relationship where I just like have these visions and you know, like I do like the romantic acts, and like one day, for example, like my favorite food is pretzels, and he was dropping something off for me, like he bought me stamps or something, and then he like threw me a bag of pretzels, and I was like, that's so romantic, Like that's so nice, so thoughtful, so like things of that scale all the way through, like those big grand gestures. I definitely am a hopeless romantic. I think we all are, you know, and the show teaches you that. Oh go ahead, Leslie, I'm sorry, don't you know that's okay. I don't know if I would say I'm a hopeless romantic. But I'm very sensitive, as my whole family knows, and very sentimental. And I've always been about the effort. It's not about the outcome, but it's about the effort. So like when Connor put all those little notes up when Hannaby was sick, Yeah, and like brought her soup, that says something about his character like that, to me, spoke volumes. So I like that part of the show. When I was watching Trista and I was watching Ryan and how Ryan wrote poetry for her, that to me was beautiful. That's what I love about the show. That's the things I look for in the show of Money. It makes me feel good to see I want everybody to see. I'm a pleaser. That's my role in the family, in life. I want all my friends and family to be happy and healthy and make them happy and do things so that when I see other people do that, it really makes me smile. I mean, it makes me smile, it makes me happy. So and that's some of the things that I see in the show. Yeah, it's so funny you bring up to Trista and Ryan part, because I had never seen Tristas season until the Greatest season's ever, I don't have to ask. I know you guys are watching, and it was like seeing it for the first time. I thought that moment was so beautiful, I said, Trista, I would I would have said, everybody go home after that moment. It was just something very sincere to see, and a lot of times you don't get to see the sincerity on the show because of the drama. But this kind of leads into my next question, because I was going to ask you guys, what are some of your favorite Bachelor History moments or moments in Bachelor history. So Grandma, Honey, I'm gonna start with you. You've been watching since day one, so I know you've got a few favorite moments from Bachelor history. Yeah. Well, I don't remember specific moments remember my age, but I remember bachelors. I love Okay. I loved Travis the doctor. Oh now he has his own show. He was an emergency room doctor. I thought he was down to earth and sweet naturally. I loved Ryan and I love that the fact that they got together together, um, and I liked the girls that were involved with them. They weren't they had now the the other girls they weren't hysterical. They weren't crying crazy. I love that. I liked Sean and his um wife. I thought they were an adorable couple, and I was rooting for them. I'm trying to think of some of the others. You know what, my memory is not one hundred percent. That's most thought. I found that the girl bachelors I liked better as a whole than the boy bachelor's. But the boy bachelors that were in the group with the girls with a bachelorette, they were terrific. Those guys, and you know that, you do. I was gonna tell you, did you see that Travis just had his first child? Yes, okay, yeah, yeah, I was gonna tell you that he's like over the moans so excited about that. I didn't want to information. Yes. I also loved Colton, felt that he needed a little growing up to do, but I did like him back. What about you, everyone? And Leslie? You so of your favorite Bachelory Beuchort moments. My favorite moments, I think when I think through them, it's always when the girls are telling off the guys. I just like whether it was kind of be with Luke p and that was like, oh, that was just waiting to happen, like we were waiting the seasons for that. I was not happy. I thought it was a very dangerous situation. Just show you up, um. So I really loved like her telling him off. I think so, Becky, your season was the first season that I really started watching religiously, and I think you were the perfect for me to start doing that because I think you're extremely strong to show that throughout your season. So I really liked your season as well. And he wasn't good enough for you or I love it. So everything happens for a reason, and you look where you are exactly. Yes, So I'm happy, okay going, I let all the honest going to stop you. But the thing I think that I remember watching was on Hanna Bey's season when she was doing the naked bungee jumping. I remember I was sitting around like my Bachelor with the friends that I watched with every Monday, and we were sitting there and as they're doing it, you see her dangly earrings and I'm like, they took everything else off, but they left for her to go upside down. We were all sitting there and how is his hounding? Um? I didn't even notice that before. That's hilarious. Yeah, so um, I named I really liked when cult and went to Cassie's house and Cassie's dad like called, he I have a little Cassie's dad and a little bit of bar but not as much in me as as a mom. And when Cassie's dad said, like, you're saying this to all the other girls, how could you be in love so quickly? Which, by the way, and you guys can maybe answer this for me, because I don't get that. I dated, you know, Michael, my grandma honey son for two years, we got engaged, got married after three and like you guys have a very short period of time where you meet and all of a sudden you're in love and you're gonna get married. So like, I don't get that whole thing to begin with, even though I wanted to work. So I love that he called colem on the carpet for that. I thought that was awesome. M I think I also, like I said, I love Jordan from your season, just because I'm like, oh my god, does this guy not understand what he looks like? That guy, Like, what is this you saying? I loved him too? I see these people, I'm like, do they know that? Like their parents are watching this? Like what is Roman? I like, you have like a gold underwhere I'm like, oh my god, I was showing that toall nobody really needs to see that. So I was like one of my favorite Jordan, Yeah, Jordan was. I can't even like say he was a character because he was like himself, but he just he's just a funny guy. But it's funny that you say that, because, um, when I left to go on are season of The Bachelor, and then also when I became bachelorette. The one thing that I told the girls when we first moved into the mansion that we kept reiterating throughout like the entire season and it never made it to camera, but before I left, my uncle Gary, who is my mom's brother but he's a pastor, he kept saying like, what would uncle Gary think? What would uncle Gary do? And so the entire time, if I'd like anything scandalous or dramatic or petty was going down, I would like utter under my breath to the girls, what would uncle Gary do? What would uncle Gary? Maman? So it became this running joke of like, don't embarrass ourselves in front of our parents who are going to be watching in you know, two months or whatever. It was. So that's funny that you say that because I think that you know, I'm not a parent, so I can only imagine, but I feel like anyone watching their sons or daughters or family members would be thinking that exact same thing, right right. I mean I was also I really love try not to embarrass anyone. Yeah, I was like, seriously, like, think about it. You also have to be yourself like some things I do. Like, I'm sure you would be embarrassed, like you know, I don't know, like I just know, even though that be that stupid, I'm sorry so eminly. I know that you do have a boyfriend. You mentioned it if you weren't seeing him. Would you ever consider going on the show and Leslie and Grandma honey, what would you say to that? Wash it eiter head. No. The reason why I don't think I would is, you know, being following the franchise for as many years as I have now, and seeing the bachelors and the bachelorettes from like seven to ten to fifteen years ago versus now, I think it's very different your life afterwards. I mean, I think now it's a lot of people come out of it and they're influencers and they're in the spotlight and that is their everyday job, and I don't think that would be for me. You see that a lot less with the previous Bachelor and Bachelorettes, obviously because social media wasn't around and kind of the digital world looked really different. So I think that's a big reason why I don't think I could do it, because I think there's just so much more limelight and your life really changes. So yeah, right does in your life Emily, you were so ahead of your age. I would well, I mean, look at look at the examples that she has. I selfishly would want to see you on it because I want to see how Leslie would respond to a hotel said you have compared yourself to Barb. And then I mean, can you imagine Grandma Honey there too, like, uh, she wouldn't let no one would be grand Honey would steal the show. You know what, Let Grandma Honey steal the show. Honestly, I never want her, let's be honest, And I really want to don't want to be a bachelorette bachelorette. You know, if anybody tells me they love me or they're gonna take care of me. I was all in love with them. You would be great. Stop with them. I could never make up my mind. Oh, you'd be You'd be great TV. It would be so fun to what you would love that? Grandma Honey, Well, so I need to ask you, because you were obviously married for quite some time, you would watch the show with your husband, what are some tips for all of us listening that for a long, healthy marriage. Well, you know, I think we had a lot out of the same interests. We both we enjoyed the same He was a tennis player. We enjoyed watching the tennis games. If I wanted to watch a certain television program, he was willing to try it. He didn't stay with it if he didn't like it. But he didn't like this, and we did do that together. We did everything together. We shot together, We went out to I mean not just the two of us, we went out with couples, but we went out a lot. We were very happy. And then he got sick. He had Parkinson's and it was a long struggle. But even even that, he was wonderful. He never complained God in the Beauty Fall, Go play Marshall, go do your thing. And it was just a happy marriage and I enjoyed him and I really missed him. And just so you guys first married sixty years sixty this podcast is coming out, is actually the wedding anniversary. It would have been sixty four years. Beautiful. I believe in all this. Yeah. I realized that when she sent me the date and I said, oh my god, this must be Dad. I said to her, Grandpa, how is looking down? And I called her immediately and I said, Dad's saying he likes this because he approves, because this is when it's gonna because I believe in a lot of these things. I believe you too, I really do. I believe. I believe in that show in many ways. I know what you staying with me. And when when this is coming out July twenty eight, I said, oh, well, Al, we're celebrating. We're happy anniversary. Happy anniversary. I things that you share that I think that that's beautiful. It's something that we achieve, you know, we've got to achieve towards and I just I just love what you said. It's so beautiful and I think sometimes when we were talking about the show and just the dramatics of it, you forget the little things like you mentioned it, Leslie when you talked about the notes, but you talk talking about you did everything together. You would shop, you would go hang out with the other couples, you play tennis. It's those little things that make a lasting relationship. And so I'm so thankful that you shared that with us in all of our Bachelor Happy Hour listeners. Thank you. Yeah. Also, you need fair value, you really values, and that's like, that's when I'm watching the show, like I know that there's a lot of things they don't show you, but how do you see that side to know that this is the person because you know, you can go on twenty million dates, but unless you're really digging deep, Like, how do you get to that? Because if you don't have shared values, it's not gonna more. Fathers, some of the fathers asked the right questions that the girls never Yeah, right, they do. I would tell you and Becta, I don't know if you got to do this. But when we my hometowns were a little bit different because my sister was pregnant and so she couldn't fly to where it ended in Spain. So I he did mine a little bit early. And I remember after all the men had met my family, I got to sit and talk to my family, like what did you guys think? Who did you like? They made me say something positive and negative about each one, and then they gave their own opinions. And so I took that. I wrote it down, and I know we like to, you know, romanticize, and it is romantic and dramatize the fancy suite. That's truly the opportunity to ask those questions to find out if that person is aligned with you when it comes to your values and your morals. So I would take the information that my parents gave me, the concerns that they had, I would take my own concerns questions that I would have, and I would ask them during a fancy suite. And then after that is just taking a leap of faith. And it's really after, you know, after the engagement and once you're done film and where you truly do get to know the other person. It's and like kind of like what you said, the little day life things like somebody buying you pretzels, just getting to know you. You would have never you know, for ration, I would have never probably had that on the show. It wasn't until we were outside of it. But yeah, I agree. You know, interests are definitely important. The values so important, Leslie. So for everyone listening, I might go like, we need to have you guys on every week because it's wonderful. But I do want to ask because because I know, you know, watching with family and friends, like we sometimes say things that it's either inappropriate or it's funny, like give these shared inside jokes. What are some of the funniest things that Grandma Honey has said while you guys are watching the show together, I know you have something to say. Oh god, I just have to press that. Every week I read Grandma's commentary out loud to the group of girls that I watch with, and they say, you know, that makes their experience. So everyone got experience. And when we're at when I'm at my Bachelor parties with Debbie and Tara, like they're like, what's Grandma Honey saying? Now? Oh she must have so my favorite I didn't pull punches. I didn't pull punches. If I saw somebody I don't like her, I don't want to see her I don't like her. I don't like him. Why her makeup? Um? Yeah, No, Grandma Honey does not hold back. My favorite thing every week, which is like our own little tradition, is during the rose ceremony so ceremony, Grandma Honey will send her commentary after every single girl or guy is called. The end of the rose ceremony, I have about the length of my phone a list of yes is nose boo yeah, which is great. Okay, but we saw also prefaces by saying Emily and I are always behind Grandma Honey. So she's commenting on things that we don't even know yet, and she I call her this spoilers. I'm like, Mom, you have to stop doing that. I'm just I'm showing up, showing up. What my memory remembers my favorite names, I think was during one of uh Colton and Cassie's dates, which they obviously showed a lot of them making out um throughout the season, and I remember during one of the dates they were making out, We're like okay, and Grandma's like, oh, this is his workplay which lam of money. But before that, but Emily that Emily wasn't play for Coulton. Better can we make a request so when Claire's season finally is airing. So, Grandma Honey, before you joined us, we were talking about we need to get you on Instagram because I feel like our followers and our listeners are gonna fall in love with you. They're gonna want to see and hear more of you. So could we do a thing where it's like Grandma Honey's texts where we can go alongside a week by week and know her thoughts. I read that would that would bring people together in such a fun way. Okay, I feel like we should do some bachelor's superlatives a little bit. So I want to know from all of you, who's your favorite bachelor, who's your favorite bachelorette, and who's the hottest bachelor. Grandma Honey, I think the hottest Well was Tyler. What Tyler wasn't even a bachelor, but I get it, but he just emerged. Yeah, honey, he would take his shirt off. Oh yeah, get yourself in recently and before yes, oh my gosh, we should call him and have you say hello, Oh my god, he's like my grand yes, my son. No, he's not like your grandson, but I mean, oh yeah, yeah, yes, my son is twenty seven. Are you really she's really calling him? I think she's really calling him. Grandma, honey, you might have your opportunity. This is I was gonna tell Rachel to FaceTime him to see if we could get like an ab shot or something. What about the new I like his friend to the new Bachelor. I like that, Oh mad, I like what he does. I like, yeah, it'll be Oh my god, yes, Oh she's on the phone. I can't. Oh my god, honey, this is your moment. I'm just getting tired. Okay, I like that a lot. I like ben Okay, okay, Grandma honey. Can you say hello? Mom? He Hello, Hey, Grandma honey? How are you Tyler? Can't you speak to us a little bit louder? Can you say hello again? Hey? Grandma, Honey? Is Tyler? How are you doing? Hi? Tyler? I really enjoyed watching you. I'm the Bachelor, and I have named you the sexiest guy there. You can't. You probably can't hear Can you hear her? I had I have headphones on, but she can hear you. She said that she named you the sexiest guy in Batchel Nation. She just wanted you to know that. Oh Grandma honey. She said you're welcome. Oh yeah, say Tyler, get Grandma honey. Grandma honey, we're gonna have to get you once things are open and we one day we're zoom normalcy. We're gonna have to get you to like after the final rows or mentell all or something. Yeah, she would be a great commentator, honestly, Grandma, what do you think about that? Oh? My god, but I'm too honest. Sometimes I was very happy that Tyle didn't end up with Hannah Bey, but I did not like there's Grandma honey. There's no such thing as too much honesty. Sometimes sometimes natur Nation needs more honesty. And I think you just didn't want him to end up with Hannah Be because you might want him for yourself. Good point. Back up, that's a good point that I wish I remembered more of the girls and the guys more clearly. Uh you know, I remember as a general program, but I wish I remembered more clearly so I could comment on. I loved a lot of them and the few I didn't like. I was very verbal about Grandma honey. Who did you who was like the biggest villain that you've watched throughout the seasons that you did not like. Yeah, there were a couple of guys there about was was it ari? I can't think of the names. There were a couple of guys sounds about right well that were There were a couple of things that Grandma, honey, I felt they were there for the wrong reasons, that they were just trying to get themselves in front of the screen and get some you know, airtime, maybe for their music or for their jobs. I kind of saw it through them right away, and that's why I really liked some of the father's questions, because they saw it too. M hm. Oh yeah, yeah, it sounded like we needed you on our seasons with us to give us advice. Oh boy, well my advice to clar Yes, I remember clear. I thought she stood at when I watched it. She's a beautiful young woman, and I think that she should certainly not underestimate her self, be herself and not be part of the girls that talk about each other and m knock each other, and just be herself, be true to herself, and I really hope that she finds someone who can love her. Really. I liked her. Yeah, yeah, Claire's shout being great. I'm excited. I'm excited because she's more mature, and I think that she's more she's she's grown up, so she knows, she knows who she is. So therefore, if you are happy and know who you are, finding somebody else to be your other half or your partner so to speak, will be that much easier. That's the issue. And I think a lot of the earth the later shows now is everybody is so much more less mature, so they're not ready for these can a relationships. They don't even know what they want to be when they grow up. Yeah, that's what I always say. You don't be asked earlier on the show, you said, how do you fall in love so quickly? How do you say all of that? It's it's scary because you're figuring out this whole journey and these men out and what you're finding in these last couple of leads is that they're also trying to figure out who they are. It doesn't work, and that's why you don't see these relationships working. So you have to know who you are. And Claire, we had her on a couple of weeks ago, I mean leap years ahead of people. So I'm very excited, and Emily, I think you're gonna get your wish with her telling the man off. Yes, I think Claire, Yeah, you're doing that quite a bit. That's what I was gonna. Yeah. I think she's going to be one that us as females watching, are going to be able to back her and you know, just really feel empowered watching her, especially some of the younger girls who maybe had just had just started watching the show. I think she'll do awesome. Uh. So we have to pivot because we love playing games on our podcast. And so Grandma Honey, we know that you've been watching since season one and that's been eighteen plus years. Um, and you're the one who kind of started this tradition with your family and the girls watching the show. So with that being said, we want to see which one of you would win in a game of Bachelor trivia. Okay, God, So here's how it's gonna work. You're okay, Emily's and if you don't know names, if you if you remember anyone and can just describe them, that works too. Well. We'll try to you know, who know who you're talking about. He was just on the first time he didn't propose to anybody, and the second time he did propose, but he since yeah, and you got it, she got it? Do you effort like Brad at all both times, both seasons. You didn't like him at all period. I didn't, you know, he was very good looking, and at first I was to say, oh, what a handsome guy. He had no personality. He was like dead. I did not like him. I didn't think. I couldn't see how any of the girls would have chosen him, and she choose them right, And then I couldn't understand why they gave him another chance because he wasn't trying to a typical gaze of a case of a guy just not knowing what he wanted his oldest time. Yes, but you know what, it happens all the time. They're all good looking until they opened their mouth, and then they're dumb and it doesn't have how look they are. They just don't look to see him. I agree. I remember watching I remember watching there was a young girl who at the end she didn't choose anybody. I think she was a gymnast. Oh, choose anybody. I don't know, maybe i'm trying to sing list. I don't know. This might be before my Bachelor, my mom. I think she was a gymnast. Yeah, and I think she was on and I have a feeling that she didn't choose anybody at the end. Mm hmm, Okay, we'll have to do some digging. I mean you you know more than because you've watching for knowing, for knowing something that no see the brain I don't even all right, mom, well, Grandma, honey, I have a feeling you might get this next one because we did talk about him, very very briefly. Which bachelor said I love you to two different women? I know who that is, but I can't give you the name. I know exactly who that is. You just said he was one of your favorites. I think you mentioned he was one of the most handsome after Tyler Ben. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I think it was one but you walked. I'm gonna give you another point because I know you're thinking of Peter because technically he has said I love you two several women. Well, also, speaking from experience, Ari did as well. There was a lot of right. Yeah, but Ben was the first trend bad trend did okay, very bad trend to trend that it shouldn't be followed. Yeah, you see Sason whose season, oh whose season of the Bachelor was Claire Crowley on Grandma, you know this one. Oh oh, she told him off, right, didn't you tell him off? What was the question? It wasn't one Carlo? Was it one? Something? One? On? Oh Pablo was discussing I like the pot where she told him off. Yeah, oh yeah, I think all of America loved that part. Oh yeah, this is yeah. See I forgot about that when you asked what favorite part, But that would have been one of my favorite parts. Yeah, this is see the ball over again. You might get your wish. Well, you're well, you're getting there with the recaps. This is why we either have to watch all together one day or we need Grandma Honey's text because I feel like, you say what all of America thinks. Yeah, she love. You're making me not sound as bad. Okay, like I people always do on the n what I say, And I'm like, well, you know what Grandma Honey said it first exactly. But you've earned the right. You've earned the right to say whatever it is that you want. Yes, yes, yes, but do you reach ninety you could say any yes exactly exactly, ye young, yes you can. Okay, you should just know her son. My husband is very uptight about this. He's like, are they gonna edit this out there. It's very worried that she's gonna say something that isn't gonna She is a gift. Let me tell you a gift to worry. She was one of our favorites, I know, but of my favorites too. And I liked her because smart, right, But I don't understand why she's with him, because exactly he was. He's as dirt. I mean, he's a nice man. He's a nice guy, but he's not too like he just kept saying the same things over and over through his whole season. He's like was a broken record. And she's very smart. She clearly is successful. I mean, listen, he got thrown off after he slept with Hannah. I mean that's not a good song. I'm just saying, yeah, after it was publicized and had its own you know. Yeah, yeah, but you know, but Kellie knew him from before, and I think she had a crush on him right away and tried to be you know, his his love of life. And then um, when when they had the Bachelor, everybody talks about it afterwards, she was there in the audience. Yeah, she wasn't letting go, but we will know that she had more on the ball than he did. Yeah, yes, yes, yes, I think yes. I think what people loved about Kelly too is, like you mentioned, she's down to earth, but she's one of the few contestants that I've really ever seen that didn't let like the bubble and the hype of the show get to them. She still seems to be who she was throughout and she didn't want to like play things up if they weren't there. And that's what I think, Well, I know I didn't. I think Rachel you did too. That's what we loved about her was that she was just so chilling, down to earth and was like, yeah, you know, I'm not going to say something and do something just because it's for a TV show, right. It was like it was like she she was just she was there to meet Peter, but she wasn't there for the whole commercial and drama and TV. She wasn't there for the TV. She's one of the few, like you said, Becca, really yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, I don't really happy. Yeah they seem happy. Well, I'm playing years. That's important. Yes, it is.
