Speaker 1: I welcome to episode two of four. We'll share some new music that comes out this week the music news and also speaking of new music, I thought we'd talked about the Greatest Grammy Losers for Best New Artists, which we'll get in a little bit. By the way, Eddie is joining me, and so is Mike d And let me encourage you to check out Eddie on the Sore Losers podcast. Yes, it's a sports show, a bunch of guys talking guy stuff sports. Um, I don't really know a lot about sports, Like I'm a fan, you know, but I don't really know the details. So lunch boxes the sports genius and it's mostly us who says he's the sports he does Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah he does. So we just mostly just argue about what we think the outcome of games are gonna be. So check out the Sore Losers if you're into sports. Sports genius, that's what you called himself. It's like anyone that calls us a good golfer. Like if someone's calls a golfer, you're like, you know they're not good or are they dressed really nice? Um? Okay, here we go. By the way, when we get to the Grammy stuff. For example, in nineteen seventy best New Artist was the Carpenters. Oh yeah, and you know who lost to them was Elton John some of those crazy ones that you're like, wow, they lost. That's coming Tom just a little bit. I do want talkbout new music coming out this week and so on our show we had a big premiere of Sam Hunt and any of I say this about new music. Anytime you hear a brand new song that had a bunch of hype to it, at least coming out pre it never lives up to the hype because it can't possibly meaning. The first time you hear a song, it's it's never that good because it takes a couple of plays for you to go, oh like the hook, It takes a couple pays where to get that chorus in your head, unless the song has some crazy meaning that you personally identify with the first time you hear it and get you chill bumps, because the lyrics mean something so much to you, and it's not so much about the structure of the song the melody, you're the chorus. Otherwise it's gonna take a few times. I just remember body like a backgrow When it came out, people hated that song. They were like, what is this. He's had four hits in a row. This is not going to be a hit, biggest hit of like five years. My point is one of my friends was like, it's nobody Like a backgroup, And I'm like, you didn't like body Like a Background for like two months? Do you think it's a body Like a background? That's not the point. I think that's because we haven't heard it enough to even beside that. And the course about the second time, I was like, I want to do I think it's fantastic. It took me a few listens, even for someone that listens to the music somewhat professionally. Um much like we made from the Lunchbox, any sports genius, anybody that goes I could tell a song about listening the full of crap. The people that are really good at it don't claim to be good at it. But as much as we know now what we have with Sam Hunt, I think Body Like a back Road is like his friends in low places. So so the next song is just whatever comes next. It's just gonna be hard for it to be body Like a Background. Any song you have that's a massive hit for you. It's gonna be hard to Yeah. So I personally, I haven't given the chance this one a chance yet, and you probably won't for three or four months. You're hed enough to go, oh that's a jam. But I that that. I want to end it to my kid. That's it's a really cool core that us. I don't know if it's gonna be massive or not, but I do like it. Here's Sam like kin folks. Here, I want to shoot my canol to friends that I do love his style. This is just Sam Hunt. His style is very much you know not aside from the talking stuff, which he doesn't hasn't done on a few songs, it's very go go stop, go go go stop like that, even in Turn it Up, Mike, even in the verses to even the music. It's a bunch of good catch man. Was it over? Yes? Yes, we have no more good catch. That's so true. Yeah, that's how sing the chorus I'm gonna tell you to my kid folk. I mean, yeah, you're right about that, that line, that line, and it's so simple. No no, no, it's like so easy anybody but I don't. And my whole point is they don't yend them music now in the music industry after I bought it like a backup, Like that song is so easy. Anybody can read it, Okay, then write it and we're your hits. If it's so easy, then why aren't you doing it? I think just sometimes as human we complicate things. No. I think what happens is somebody makes it look so easy that you think it's easy. I mean, I get a bunch of people like you can do that radio show that you do. Okay, didn't do it. You have just enough life to go and and start small and if people like you and you can get ratings to to create a radio show, because well, you kind of make this thing look easy. And that's the point of I see that. People should be like, oh wow, that's easy. I mean anybody could do that. I see that same thing with that song. People could do it, they would have nobody has. There's only cowple people that can write a song like that that has done it. Anyway, I get super irritated for saying that Luke Combs has a new song out this week called what You See is What You Get. Here's this king no good thing. He's dropping a bunch of songs he's got a new record coming out, so he's putting out songs as the releases. The grat tracks you have, Bailey Brian, where we started? This is a new this week? Can we get back to? Can we get back to the first night you give? I'm a big Bailey Brian fan. She's opened for us and for me a bunch. And what I don't really, I don't realize is when we met her, she was really really young. I think when we met her she was like seventeen, right tea yeah, And so she's got a lot of growth to do, like in her career. And I can hear it in this song already, from the first songs she had when she first came to their studio, like this is that felt like a pretty super pop super pop cutch totally. Lanco has a new song out today. I Love these guys. It's called what I See What Us. Let me make another analogy to why people like songs. If the lyrics don't hit you immediately right and you feel them, you don't like it until you can sing it, And sometimes it takes a few times before you can sing it back. Like that's when people will start liking a hit. When they can sing it back. Do you listen to lyrics first or melody first? Melody? Yes? Do? I wish I listen to the lyrics first. I know sometimes I don't even know lyrics as songs until I really try to pay attention to it. I just know Nana, Nana, Nana noon now, and that would be what is called a melody, like the melody of um friends. All the places would be uh and you can switch that up. That's what you wanted to change the lyrics on top of that melody. It could be like we know people with that faces a parody is saying melody different lyrics. Cot wait to break that down? Blanco Brown who has going to do the two step, and he has a new album out this week. And here's Funky Tonk, which I think is like funky honky tonk. Yeah, check that out. Harry Styles has a new song called lights Up. Here's a club of that Green Day, Green Day, Green Day, fire Ready Aim, here's that? There you go? That's cool. I like Green Days new stuff like they always seem to redo themselves. He sings, can you pull up their their their single right now? What is it called? He sings in like a falsetto the whole thing really really high. Yeah, which is pretty cool because the first time I heard the song, I didn't know it was I don't know if it was like a um, you know, Arctic Monkeys. That's kind of what this sounds. It does feel very British. He yes, British alternative, I guess would be called. Mike, do you know the name of that new song? I can't find it right now. All right, let me know when you get it. In music news, the Baby has the number one album in the country. Who is that? No idea, I gotta be honest, the number one album in the country. His new album, Kirk sold a hundred forty five thousand copies, which was enough to be that post Malone. But his album has been out a few times or a few weeks right, a few weeks. The Baby I needed to serve and I'm sure this is good across the I need to hear a few times a lot of streams. So the Baby, it's got the number one album. I can tell you. I didn't even heard of the The The Baby until he either Mike d father of all debate of the Baby. Yeah, I knew him because he was on his song with Little nos X. He was on a remix of Panini. Okay, but you don't know if anything else. Speaking of Pannini, I mean that's gonna be a big hit. Like my kids are already singing it, are there? And that's kind of my tell tale of like, all right, this is gonna be big. Yeah. And he my son was my eleven year olds like, you heard this yet, and I'm like, no, I haven't heard it yet, but we've talked about He's like, I know I heard you guys in the radio show talk about this song. Yeah, me and Little Nozacs aren't all the best terms. So whatever, you guys can work that out. They'll be all right, we'll work that out. Yeahs um the Great Day song? You have it? What's it called? It's called Father of All? Didn't you have it? I don't, Oh, all right, we don't. We have an alternative station in the building. We are not anymore. Yeah, we did, but not anymore. We have a rock We have a rock station, though it should. Yeah, I would think that Great Day song will be in there. Uh CMT artists that your celebration except for this Wednesday and Sam Hunt and Lady and Bellam we're gonna perform a tribute to Reba. Hey, question, what's the what is artist? What's the difference between this and the big, the big award organization, the organization like c m as are a big foundation organization, big group that we're all members of. CMT is a channel. So they just oh, this is CMT. I'm so sorry CMT Artists of the Year. They basically whoever works at CMT has picked the five people they have deemed artist of the year. Got it? It would be if we just go, hey, we're having a Artist of the Year show and we got people to come up and play. How many people who get to watch? It's how big the show is. Um. So CMT does it and I will be presenting Carrie Underwood. They didn't ask me to perform for her, which is a shame. I know they're missing on a big opportunity, right, Mike Day, don't they give bribly down to Cary unerwoods on that have been great go out dresses? Here? This rocket the same kind of legs. Yeah, I wear a little short. I don't done that, but no, I'm super Uh. I was surprised and also pretty honored that carry was like, hey, will you present me that she's actually not gonna be there. She's gonna be in Cleveland because she has a show that night. And she's like, hey, will you present me back in Nashville. And then my throw to her is a video is there gonna be like live or video? A live thing and someone's gonna perform. But I don't know if I should say all this, but there's a thing happening, so um. And then you know the dude at the tattoos on his face, guy Takashi six nine. You say his name, they say, signed a ten million dollar record deal from prison. I'm gonna put out two albums from prison. They have a studio in there. We'll know he signed the deal from prison, right, yeah, when he gets out. So he's not getting the money now, but once he's released, whenever that is, he'll get the cash in return for putting out two albums, one in English and one in Spanish. He's yeah, he does where he does? Look Hispanic? Where's he from? I'm not sure. He was sentenced in December. He was originally looking at forty seven years in prison, but he started singing like a bird and snitching. Now it's possible he gets off with as little as time served. I don't know how I feel about this. By the way, no plea deal has been announced. It's n clear how Tim's he found out, But there you go. He's from Mexico with his mom and dad. Are so you and him are the same. Yeah, there you go. I want to introduce you to my campos. But it's kind of weird that you can just do all that from prison, like still continue to do business. Um, you're not supposed to. There you go, Yeah, you're not supposed to. Just this one that told TMZ. But yeah, I mean Kanye recorded his from um from the hospital where or maybe he said from his jos shut through the wire. Yeah, there have been people that have recorded stuff from all having all different situations. So Kanye recorded his rap with his Josh. There have been people that have recorded from prisoner. People record from all kinds of weird places like get on the phone and do stuff. A lot of j like sign autographs in prison too. Yeah. I guess my point wasn't so much prison, but yeah, there are a lot of ways that you can do things when you're not really supposed to. That through the wire with Kanye, such a good day like this is the whole time is after the crash, and then like you shouldn't wrap, you can't wrap right now, And I think he talked about that in this song. Then somebody used to call on a phone from prison and laid down track speaking of prison, so it would sound like phone. Try we get on the phone and he'd be like, yo, I mean in jail. Yeah, yeah, I'm saying of that. So um, there's that. I didn't want to go over this listen. I just like doing these new music episodes to give you guys a heads up. The Greatest Grammy Losers for Best New Artists which I found as an article and I wanted to talk about this. So Elton John tops the list of the greatest musicians to lose the Grammy for Best New Artist. He lost to the Carpenters in nine seven. Here's the Melton John for you. Do you have any of the Carpenters? Why? Second verse? Yeah, what you would know originally is why do births sudden? Leah here and every time you are near dude, like but but here's the thing about this there you artists, so like Tiny Dancer, wasn't I wonder what was around for Elton John in nine seven? Could have been a full record. Not sure which record it was, but yeah, probably not the Elton John that we know today. Well, no, because we've had fifty years with them of great music. Billboard put together this list. Let's go backward from what what do you have on yours? How many? How many do you have? It? Have all those on the sheet? Mm hmm. Interesting. Let's start a number twelve. We'll go backward a little bit. In two thousand two, the winner was Norah Jones. You know great what in us you should? And she won? But she beat this guy here. That's tough, wucking cast me. Let me ask you this at number eleven on this let's bring Billboard, I'm gonna give you the two. You tell me who you think should have won, share Crow or green Day. Um, I would say green Day should have won, Okay, Sheryl Crow one two Tonight Music Club, Monster Refuge. But green Day lost to Ryl Crow. I guess Cherryl Crow. It's still I mean, I guess pop music kind of claimed that one because Sheryl Crow was just pop that at that point, and then Green Day was just they were a punk band. Alternative. I guess they fill into yeah, but they were they were pops. You know, they were a punk band that was so big they went pop quick like Dukie. Was this a huge album? Duke was on pop radio a little bit. I don't have that much of a problem with that one, No, because they're both really big and you love Sheryl Crow and two thirteen Mac Lamore and Ryan Lewis one that's thrift shop or was that? What song was that? Yeah, Maclamar, throw Shop. You know they beat it was Kendrick Lamar. And then that text came out right, We're like Mcamore posted attacks. It's like I shouldn't have one, remember that? Might remember that? Yeah, that's pretty recent. Okay, let's see here. Justin Bieber lost to a bassist, Esperanza Spaulding in two thousand. Are I know her name? You do? Yeah? But I don't from what her win her winning the Grammy. Maybe I remember Esperanza Spaulding, I just don't know who she is. Was her singing and playing bass. She's a jazz bassis and she'd been Justin Bieber in two thousand ten in Okay, who do you think one? This one in? Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears. Brittany do you think Brittany one? Christina one? That's where it's on the list because because you why, why wouldn't Brittany may be the most famous person of our lifetime? Yeah? I agree with that arguably, oh a lifetime. Yeah, I don't know, that's what I'm saying. Who would you put up Jackson? I'm not really in my wheelhouse of me being someone who was in a popular culture I have in the eighties. I'm sure like it is peak. Yeah. Well, I always think like if I asked my dad, who doesn't know anything about music, do you know Britney Spears is, he'd probably say no, he would know Britney Spears. M you're out of your mind. But if you said Michael Jackson was mine James older when he was younger, I mean, I think Michael Jackson was probably big. I think the Beatles were probably bigger than Britney Spears. But I wasn't able to like be a part of the Michael Jackson phenomenon in my lifetime. I feel like Britney Spears was the most famous person that I've been able to see. And it's not the right answer, but I think Brittany is the biggest thing that i've Brittany. Who else? I mean, Taylor Taylor Swift, But I don't think Taylor's as big as Brittany was because Taylor's in the land of where there are a lot of options, more people could have been. We're famous around the same time top I probably in my lifetime. But I think for me, I think Britney is the biggest. If I used my dad rule, Taylor Swift wins. But but again that's TV whyre using your dad rule, because the dad rules important because he doesn't know anything about musing. But if he knows that name, this means that means that artist is huge. I would say Britney Spears in my life is the most famous m D in your lifetime. Like Macdonna, it just kind of fizzled out. Well, but again at their peak. I don't think I got to experience Madonna at her peak. Yeahter what well, okay, Princess Diana, Yes, well we didn't. I mean again, we didn't. Yeah, you're right, there's not a right answer. We didn't live that whole time. Um ed Shearon lost to Macklamore and Ryan Lewis in two thousand third. How did they get up twice for this? It was the same year, got it alright? Also that Esmeralda Spaulding should beat Drake the same year be brand Drake. What year was that though? Two thousand ten? So biber Drake or in the same category and Esperanza Spaulding one number five? Who do you think should have won this? Maroon five four or Kanye West two thousand five, four thousand four Kanye Kanye lost him or in five? Yeah, because this was this was the the time of that was as big as his album was Getting Harder Breath Now I'm thinking the Kanye album. I do anything for Klondyke, I do anything for situation. Yeah, graduation that was huge. Can you not hear Mike barely? He just said graduation. But I do I think when I started having like four kids in my house, I isolate things. Uh. Let's see Taylor Swift lost to Amy Winehouse in two thousand seven. Um Crosby, Stills and Nash beat led Zeppelin in nineteen sixty nine, wow, And in nineteen seventy two year winner for Best New Artists was that any two? Yeah? It was a band called America. Remember the song I don't know the song clip you have dude the desert with the Horse. Yeah, that's with the Horse for no name who they beat up the Eagles? Oh man. Yeah, this list is shocking because the beating, you know, it's hindsight now like living we know the bands that lasted. Yeah, and we'll keep putting out hits. Yes. And then Elton John is the biggest shock. Nineteen seventy Elton John lost to the Carpenters. That was interesting. I like that, um, because these are all fortunate, you know, like future tellers. They're just like, oh, yes, well here And they may have been accurate in that one year to Espalding, except for that one. You don't like that. I don't mind it. Yeah. Yeah. And the Grammy I'll tell you this. I'm a Grammy voter. I don't even read all the categories. It's so much a lot. And Grammy voters are a little snootier than other voters. They're not really in tune with what people are listening to. Sometimes they pick something just because it's a little out there, more so than picking what I would compare to the Oscars, and they don't pick any big movies that have made money at all that we all like, and they're all independent movies that we're now like, well, I guess we gotta see it up to winning awards, but they don't pick the big ones that people just love. I don't know, I just don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't know what it is because like you watch the Oscar stuff. I literally try to watch all of the movies that come out as Best Picture, and two of them are just they're terrible. It's not that I don't understand what it is is people that are making the art feel like they're deeper into the art and they can appreciate the art on a different level than the normal person. So they're gonna pick stuff that's gone second and third level deeper. You and I wouldn't enjoy that same thing with the with the Grammys and music. That's how occasionally somebody who's super talented, this es brandsa what's her name, Esperanto Spaldi. Yeah, like I'm sure she's the best in her field, sure, but people go justin Bieber, what did that? Anyway? There? You go a little new music for you. I thought we put this out over the weekend. I hope you guys can find some stuff that you like and um, you can pull out some of that stuff is trivia at a party when you're doing your Grammy trivia all the time.
