Speaker 1: Reality with the King is hosted by me, Carlos King. I'm an executive producer who have produced some of your favorite shows from the Real Housewives in Atlanta, New Jersey and my own creation, The Love and Marriage Franchise and Bell Collective. Every episode we recap reality television from the Real Housewives Franchise to The Bachelor or Selling Sunset. In addition to celebrity guests, whether in the unscripted space or scripted as well.

00:00:36
Speaker 2: Ray draws He's back. My best team, my favorite journalist in the world. Besides Porsche, of course, Dave Quinn from People Magazine is here to give us the scoop.

00:00:47
Speaker 3: Hey, Dave, Well, what's.

00:00:48
Speaker 4: Up, Carlos. I will never be as good as a journalist as Porsche. She's always number one, like always number one.

00:00:56
Speaker 3: She's always number one. She always breaks the news first. But listen, you are a Peabody close second book.

00:01:04
Speaker 4: I will say. When we did the cover Digital cover story with Portia, I interviewed her. This is right after the Simon Gubadia divorced, and I said, like, what's going on with love for you? And she goes, I don't know, should I be a lesbian? And now she is so I got the scoop from the scooper.

00:01:25
Speaker 3: That's how it should be done. I mean, she gave you Edna's.

00:01:28
Speaker 2: Glusive and clearly it wasn't bullshit because she is living her best gay life, honey, something you and I can relate to. However, has that big topsy with us? It has everything to do with Listen, raindrops. Dave Quinn is here to talk about and exclusive interview. You guys are hanging her first that he did with former railhouse Wives of Salt Lake City star Jenshaw.

00:02:00
Speaker 4: Yo, it's crazy. Is that crazy?

00:02:04
Speaker 3: I mean it's insane, but it's not.

00:02:07
Speaker 2: Listen, it's not insane in terms of you getting yet, because of course you would get this close up. It's the fact that we now have on record how she feels. I'm assuming because listen, you're here to give us a school honey.

00:02:23
Speaker 3: So what is going on with Mi Jenshaw?

00:02:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, like Carlos, she has not done an interview since she pled guilty. So that was a long time ago. Since she pled guilty, she went to jail. She was in jail for two years and nine months. She's now been out in home confinement. She has not spoken that entire time. Remember when she was arrested and indicted, we were all losing our minds. We were on clubhouse talking to all of our friends about all this. It was like twenty twenty Finny.

00:02:53
Speaker 3: We were all like losing our month balls.

00:02:56
Speaker 4: We were like, I can't believe Jenshaw is going to prison.

00:02:59
Speaker 3: This is crazy.

00:03:00
Speaker 4: She's indicted, look at these crimes. And the whole time she was saying I'm innocent, she was selling like free Genshaw merch and was saying that she was wrongfully accused. And then all of a sudden boom, she plied guilty. And from that moment on nada we heard not a drop. So finally, for the first time, she sat down and she said everything, how she became the alleged kingpin of this entire telemarketing scheme, why she decided to plead guilty, what it was like being behind bars, what it was like being behind bars with Elizabeth Holmes and Galene Maxwell.

00:03:41
Speaker 2: What wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait, there's so much unpack here.

00:03:45
Speaker 3: And listen, rain Jobs.

00:03:46
Speaker 2: You got to pick up the issue that is out today, Okay, so make sure to pick it up. But day give us this gooop because Elizabeth Holmes rain drops. In case you don't remember, she was a Silicon Valley woman, the inventor who allegedly was trying to invent some sort of blood transfusion.

00:04:09
Speaker 3: B as whatever. Hbos. Get a whole documented about her, honey.

00:04:15
Speaker 2: One of my favorite actresses, Mada Seyfried Baby played her in a biopic. So way she was in she shared the same jailso as her.

00:04:27
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:04:28
Speaker 4: So they were in the federal prison camp in Brian, Texas, which is a minimal security camp, and they shared I think there was over ten months that they were in the same unit. Dude, are you ready for this? This is my favorite quote from the piece. I'm gonna read it to you verbatim because I am a journalist, as you mentioned, and I like to make sure that I get my quotes correct. So I asked her about what it was like, you know, being with Elizabeth Holmes and whether they were had a friendship, and she said they were, They were friends, and they were both high profile prisoners, so there you kind of had things in commons. And she said, quote, we both got assigned to poop duty together. When you do poop duty with someone, you're gonna be close, I said, poop duty. So then she explains to me what poop duty is, so the loss on crimsis.

00:05:24
Speaker 3: So who's picking up? What poop? Are they picking up?

00:05:27
Speaker 2: Day?

00:05:27
Speaker 4: Okay, So what poop duty is is each unit has their own bathroom, right, so like each like sector in the prison has their own bathroom, and they were assigned to the same bathroom. And if someone in your bathroom going to your bathroom does not clean it, you get a strike. And if your bathroom gets three strikes, guess what happens poop duty. So sure enough, they were doing everything they can to make sure they didn't get poop duty, but they did get poop duty. And uh, what it does is you have to sit with a metal chin in the bathroom and you watch people like you're a bathroom attending. You watch people come and go into the bathroom, and when they leave the stall, you get up off your chair and walk over and make sure it's clean. And if it's not clean, you either have to clean it or you have to go get that person to come and clean it. Poop duty yuck?

00:06:19
Speaker 5: Oh okay, okay, And she's in Denvergala Maxwell too, who we all know was Jeffrey Epstein's girlfriend and co conspirator.

00:06:31
Speaker 4: Yes, and sentenced to I think twenty years in prison for her crimes, and apparently, according to Jenshaw, showed absolutely no remorse behind the scenes, told everybody and told jen blatantly that she had no remorse. The TV's on and they're showing the the the horrible victims of Epstein fighting to get the unsealed documents in Congress, and she's like mocking it in the room. Apparently, what girl, I was shocked.

00:07:07
Speaker 2: This is madening. Okay, back to Jinshaw. So, because baby, let me tell you something. Between Elizabeth and Galley, this whole fucking episode can be about them alone.

00:07:20
Speaker 4: But yeah, where is my real Housewives of the Clink? You know, like give it to me Orange is a new Housewives? Like I want to.

00:07:30
Speaker 2: See it, Lizzy, that's an episode that's the title this episode?

00:07:35
Speaker 3: Or a Housewives? That's actually Genia's Dave. That's why I love him, so body.

00:07:40
Speaker 2: Okay, So back to jin Okay, how did she describe.

00:07:48
Speaker 3: Her experience behind bars.

00:07:51
Speaker 2: Because you know on the show, she loved the label she had a big house, she's a mom, she's a wife.

00:07:59
Speaker 3: Did she get along with people. Did somebody try.

00:08:02
Speaker 2: To like, you know, you know, check her and big Mama her like what people, Mama.

00:08:10
Speaker 3: You know, these are things that my brain DAWs want to know.

00:08:12
Speaker 4: Well, she didn't open up about that first thing. You know, we've been laughing we're talking about this, but I do want to just strip it back to just say the big purpose of the interview was really Jenshaw talking about what happened, and she was very very accountable, saying over and over again that she is sorry, that she takes full accountability for what happened, that she's doing everything she can to pay the restitutions. She owes six point six million dollars in restitution to pay back the victims that were defrauded. She was very clear that she never targeted the elderly. That the way the government's case works that if over ten people are over the age of fifty five who are among your victims, they are considered elderly and they can add in this elderly charge which would require which would therefore get you more prison time. So she was very clear that that was never something that she targeted. She also said that she really didn't know that there were victims that she had been going through these processes believing she was doing the right thing, not recognizing that the people she was in business with were not doing the right things. She shouldn't have been more trusting, and she takes accountability for that. She's clear that she's not placing blame. She said clearly to me, I'm sorry. There is no excuse, but there is an explanation, right, like, this is how I got here, but there's no excuse for it. And she said to me pretty much at the eleventh hour of the story that also while this was happening, Coach and I were nearly divorcing, our marriage had completely fallen apart, I was abusing alcohol. Things were happening in my life where there was massive amounts of trauma due to the death of relatives, where I hadn't dealt with it, and my life was falling apart, and I wasn't being diligent. So this all happened around that time. Jen's now thirty six months sober. She is in a totally different mindset. This is a woman who we all are used to popping off and acting sort of very entertaining, I will say on the TV, but this is somebody in our conversation, who was really really different than the person that you had seen on TV. So the experience when you ask me what was she like back there, it is really changed her. She said that it is not camp Cupcake, it was prison. It was difficult. She was treated differently because she was well known. She said, everybody there watched Bravo and everybody knew everything about her. When she came in. She called it a Bravo Con meet and greet. She said they all came up to her asking about the show Andy, everything like a Bravo con meet and greet, And then she said they're they didn't really understand how to separate the difference between television and reality, so that it was almost they have no social media, right, so they would talk to her as if they were on social media, meaning if they liked her, they would say they loved her, and if they hated her, they would say they hated her. It got so bad that she had to be moved to another unit because it was so intense. So these are things that we don't think about, right, Like, we're adult enough to know that when we're around one of these women that we can sort of separate.

00:11:35
Speaker 3: But in these situations.

00:11:36
Speaker 4: They were not able to. Bravo was taken off the TV temporarily because it got so bad and they eded it back on. She said she didn't even watch the show, but she knew what was happening at all times. And remember she's behind the scenes, behind the scenes, she's behind bars when it is on the show, right, that whole thing is happening while she's away. When when when Heather Gay is blaming the black eye on her, like she's been gone for all this time.

00:12:08
Speaker 2: So when it came to Monica's iconic season, was she able to watch it and did she share her thoughts on Monica Garcia.

00:12:18
Speaker 4: I definitely asked her about Monica Garcia because I'm messy and I want to know about Monica Garcia, like I love Monica, I'm curious what her feelings about it were. And the first thing she said to me was Monica Garcia Garcia. I don't know Amonica Garcia. And she kept saying like I knew some Garcia's behind bars. But and then she was like, oh, Monica Fowler because remember Monica's name changed, So she was throwing a little subtle shade, which I you know, we like our Housewives a little shade, and then she sort of went back and said like ultimately, like I'm not going to give her any time of day, you know, I got a respect boundary, but would.

00:13:01
Speaker 3: Love a little more, would love a little more.

00:13:04
Speaker 4: I'm sure Monica will have something to say about it when she sees the clip.

00:13:08
Speaker 3: Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely.

00:13:13
Speaker 1: This is reality with the King and I'm Carlos King.

00:13:16
Speaker 3: Let's get back into the show. Did you watch any of the of the season gift thoughts on the show so far?

00:13:24
Speaker 4: She didn't watch it, but she was aware of everything that was happening. I did ask her about Andy's comments that he never wanted to see her again, and I thought that she handled that really diplomatically. You know. She said, listen, I was not able to speak once I pled guilty. My lawyers said, don't say anything because there's a distance between when you plead guilty to when you go and get sentenced to go to prison. This isn't like, you know, a crime where you're arrested for murder and you say I'm guilty and that you go to jail right away. There's this distance and anything that she was said, the federal government was tracking and they were put everything in their sentencing document. They were watching her every move, so any interview she gave they were going to use that against her in some capacity. That's why she stayed silent. And remember Andy wanted to do interviews with her. She didn't do any of that. So she recognizes that people have this portrait of her that they don't know the full thing. And that Andy, she said, I respect him. He can say whatever he wants, but he doesn't know me. He knows what he thinks about me, So I take it with a grain of salt. And that's sort of how she felt about the women in general. She was really open and looking to speak to them, possibly because she doesn't really hold on to the grudges of what had happened in the past. She doesn't even remember it right. She's been away from this experience for so long.

00:14:47
Speaker 3: Does she keep in touch with any of us all?

00:14:49
Speaker 4: Like City Housewives, She keeps in touch with Meredith, and Meredith has talked about this. I know too, but she said Meredith has been really consistent and that Meredith was always, you know, getting in touch with her while she was away, getting in touch with coach. Meredith and Seth stayed good friends to coach, so she really appreciated that. She also said that she reached out to maryam Cosby after Robert Junior died. She said she privately reached out to her because she felt like it was the respectful thing to do. So she mailed her card telling her how deeply sorry she was to hear about the passing of Robert Junior, and that you know, Mary was in her family's prayers every day, and she wanted to do that privately and not publicly. She want to post about it. She wanted to make it about her right, but she wanted Mary to know that you know, she really cares about her and is thinking of her. She hasn't spoken to Angie. She hasn't spoken to Heather, though she does say she wants to clear up things with Heather over that Black.

00:15:47
Speaker 3: Eye LESSI does she give you the exclusive of whether or not she did it.

00:15:52
Speaker 4: She did not give me an exclusive about whether or not she did it at that point. I will say we did talk for like over two hours, and at that point, when it was really the last set up questions and there was only so much I could push, I did ask her if she had any advice for Wendy Osepho because of course also going through a fraud case, right, So I asked her if she had any advice for Wendy and Eddie, and she said that while she's not spoken to them and doesn't really know the details of their crime, that her heart goes out to both of them going through this. She mentioned that they have younger children, and her advice was just saying to like, focus on what matters in your life, focus on what's you know, the right thing for your family, because at the end of your day, your children and your family are all that matters.

00:16:43
Speaker 2: She did she bring up anything about what's happening now with her and Coach and the kids, Like she back in the house and she's not allowed to leave the premises, right.

00:16:55
Speaker 4: So it's interesting she talked to me a lot about this. And this is really where you can see that Genshaw is different because she does wear an ankle monitor and you and I both know that these celebrities love to have their ankle monitors accessoriyes and and don't you think that if I would have told like, don't you think Jenshaw would do that?

00:17:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, a whole Gucci, but dazzle logo exactly.

00:17:22
Speaker 4: But she told me that she's actually she feels a lot of shame towards it. She didn't want to have it photographed. She sort of hit it away, and she's she's like, I never thought that I would be somebody with an ankle monitor. I talked to her a lot about letting go of that shame, you know, she recognizes that it's part of the process. And when you're in this, when you get you know, God forbid you hopefully never have to do this. But when you're in the process of being in jail, everything is like a step, right. You have to do certain things to get here. When you go to jail, you have to do certain things to get your phone card. Like you're just sort of aware of the process. So she knows that this is like a key to the process. She's on home confinement, likely until August. It might be a little bit earlier that she'll be released. She won't know for sure. It's all based on good behavior. She has to get permission. She's still a member of prison, like I had to get permission for the Bureau of Prisons to have this conversation with her to begin with, And she essentially is allowed to go certain places on their approval, so she can go to religious services or things for work. I said, oh, so it's not like you're going to Target. She goes, No, I can go to Target. If she gets that approval, she can go to do that to get you know, hygiene products and various other things that she may need. So she is that the boys are both out of the house. Both of her kids are adults and in school, so she's there with the dog and with Coach. She did tell me that they were, you know, as I mentioned, going through a really hard time when this was all starting, but they've worked through those through they're shared renewal and faith and really are I said to Coach because he was there too, I said, a lot of other men would have left, and I think it's pretty impressive that they stood by one another.

00:19:16
Speaker 2: You know that He.

00:19:17
Speaker 4: Said that he wants to just love her through this, and that's kind of what's happening. So she's really enjoying her day. She's doing a lot of home improvement products and projects in the households.

00:19:28
Speaker 6: Okay, and she's like reveling in the simplicities of things that she normally took for granted, making coffee, making the bed right, doing the things that like she wasn't.

00:19:43
Speaker 4: Able to do for so long. It's really shifted her mindset and she's very dedicated to making things right. I said to her, people are not going to be happy that we're platforming the story. People are going to say you shouldn't have the right to tell your story. People are going to say, you know, I'll never forgive you, and she was like, I know, they don't have to. It was a definite distinction, and I'm really familiar with this, like this distinction of making amends. Making amends is not about getting someone to forgive you. Making amends is about forgiving yourself. Ultimately about saying I want you to know why I did this, that I'm sorry that I did this, and that I've changed to be better, and you don't have to forgive me. I'm doing that work for myself. So it was revolutionary to talk to her. I was not expecting this sort of a shift.

00:20:38
Speaker 3: No, especially for two hours to talk about that.

00:20:41
Speaker 2: So rain draws, please pick up a copy of this is out today.

00:20:46
Speaker 3: But they I got to ask you one last wait.

00:20:48
Speaker 4: What can I give you a little bit more tea absolutely okay. So I asked her. I was like, yo, you know that when you went into prison, everyone was wondering what your face was going to look like when you came out, right, because like everyone was like, Wow, her fillers and her botox is all going to dissolve, and like, what's she going to look like? I am telling you, Carlos, she looks incredible. You cannot tell. And she goes, yep, I guess they didn't have any filler or botox. Dude's like she was kind of like, see, you thought that I was this, but she said that her she was hoarding beauty products from commissary. She said that she was running the ALTA at prison.

00:21:31
Speaker 3: I can't Scam's empire girl in prison.

00:21:38
Speaker 4: Pads for her face, laundry detergent. She had all the hairsprays. She said, I thought they were running out of hairspray, so I kept buying it. And she said that women were like coming up to her being like, what's your beauty routine? And she was like helping everyone out with that. She was also teaching. She got her fitness certification to be a certified Fitness instructor and she was teaching sha amazing abs and she was to take this up teaching a line dancing class, which she got Elizabeth Holmes to join, and then she begged Elizabeth Holmes to join her step dancing class because Jen of course was captain of the step dance team, and Elizabeth was like, I'm going to draw the line there, which, let's be honest, is the best decision Elizabeth Holmes has ever made. Nobody wants to see Elizabeth Holmes step dancing, not even in prison. So it was it was filled with really interesting tidbits like that. I just I really think that fans are going to be interested, and I hope they'll be open to just listening. Look, she don't have to. She did not get paid a dime for this interview. So this was not about her making money off of her story. It's about her having the opportunity to tell it. And as a journalist, I want to hear what your story is, and I sort of hope that fans will give her a chance to listen.

00:23:03
Speaker 3: Now listen, I'm the same way.

00:23:05
Speaker 2: I think, at the end of the day, the job of a journalist is to get the story you and I grew up at a time where that's literally.

00:23:13
Speaker 3: I was watching Barbara Watss doc.

00:23:14
Speaker 2: On Hulu a few months ago, and the links that she made to really laying the interview against her competitors, whether it was Oprah, Diane Sawyer of the Men and she spoke to world leaders, She's Oprah spoke to the to the KKK, Mark Furman like, these were not about choosing a side or giving us on a platform. It's more about this person's in the news. I want to ask some questions for the audience, and that's it, and I think that's what we want to know, because no one's excusing what Jinshaw has done. I've had my very very very opinionated things about that. However, I still want to know what she's up to and to hear more about this too.

00:23:58
Speaker 3: And I think that.

00:24:00
Speaker 4: Bear, do you want to see her back on the show, Well, this is.

00:24:04
Speaker 3: The thing for me. I want to see her and Monica back on the show. Listen.

00:24:10
Speaker 2: While I understand that people may feel like you're being rewarded, I do believe once you do the crime and the time and you're released, then you are a citizen who should go back to the workforce. I don't think you should suffer by not working. I think if she's saying that I owe you know, these people six million dollars, I want those people to get their money back.

00:24:40
Speaker 3: And if that means every paycheck she gets from her housewives goes to them, then so be it. So I would like to see her back on the show.

00:24:50
Speaker 4: I also just like that you like chaos, I want her and Monica you were like, let's.

00:24:56
Speaker 3: Go wake it up, wake it up.

00:24:58
Speaker 2: I mean, we need, we need something else to happen on that show. And I just I just think it's a step in the direction of listen. I do think there's, of course, different cases where someone should not be back on a show. I think in this case, once again, the crime, the time she's released, and I think us watching her being documented.

00:25:27
Speaker 3: What that looks like. I would watch it.

00:25:31
Speaker 2: I mean I would is she Well, let me ask you this, does she want to get back on television?

00:25:39
Speaker 4: I asked her if she would want to come back to the show, and she gave me the very standard like never say never, a sort of question. Obviously, it's not her decision, she did say. I asked her how she's making money. I asked her what she's planning on doing, and she said that she's weighing her options right now in a couple of projects within the media industry, in the entertainment industry. So is it going to be a podcast, is going to be a documentary? Is it going to be another TV show? I don't know what it's going to be, but a book, there's something obviously that she's going to do with it. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't think Bravo is knocking down her door right now, but I also think that they're probably waiting to see what she's like right because I'm and how the fans receive her, because I'm not necessarily sure they want to give I don't think they want to be first to that. That situation, well, that.

00:26:35
Speaker 3: Makes say is a huge gamble.

00:26:37
Speaker 2: The thing about the Bravo audience, the housewives specifically, is the fact that they're very opinionated and loud on social media. However, they still want to know how this person is living. And because look we saw with Karen Hugert who was convicted of.

00:26:57
Speaker 3: A DUI you know her her or fourth one.

00:27:01
Speaker 2: And she served her time and when she came out, they said come back now. Granted, people listen There's people out there day who looked at Karen hug and said she could have killed someone, right, and they won't ever forgive her for that understandable. There's people out there who look at Erica James saying, I don't think you should be on TV because your husband's stole money from the orphans and take those earrings back. In all these things, she's still on the show. She hasn't been convicted of anything. And then you have Jenshaw who got committed doing fraud taking money away from the elderly, as we have now learned specifically what that was. And I just think any opportunity to judge, I just don't think that's fair when other people have done something and they're back on their shows.

00:27:58
Speaker 4: Yeah. No, I mean it's at the end of the day, I just want good television, right, So ye give me, give me something good, right. And that's and that's how I feel about all of these shows. When I hear that Miami is on pause, like, I'm bummed about that because I want Miami on my TV screens, but I also want it to be a good show. Yeah, And I understand, like, oh, maybe I can't have Miami and my TV screens. If Alexia is still with what's this bucket? Who's suing the right, who's suing the network? So like, okay, well that's not going to work.

00:28:34
Speaker 3: How are you going to show her real life?

00:28:37
Speaker 4: If he's that that's not going to make sense. And there are certain people in their mix who they don't have the right cast, and it's like you kind of have to wait for them to figure it out. I can be patient for maybe there to be a boomerang opportunity for her in the future, or maybe she'll go somewhere else, or.

00:28:54
Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, yeah, listen. At the end of the day, what we can't deny is Jenshaw. It is amazing to television. At one point in time, she was literally the face of that particular franchise, and based on what you're saying to me, it does appear that she has become somebody that is different. And I also think, look, any opportunity to see some growth in a person that served time behind bars, I would like to see that, and then and then from there, I think we can say whether or not we believe it, but it sounds to me like you were there, you got to change to talk to for two hours and you see a difference in her than what was on the show.

00:29:38
Speaker 4: I see a difference in her, for sure than the person that I had seen on TV. Whether or not I believe her even is sort of not something I've even spent time thinking about, because I'm just like, I'm so good at I'm so good at compartmentalizing that and saying, these are the facts, and these are this is her story and her facts, and these facts may be different, but they both validity in this case.
