Because it's TVT week with the guys on the TVT team, kind of come individually and get a talk to them. But for the second time, Drew in their UK basketball career, the Twins are back. They came back for their sophomore season at Kentucky.

We'll start with you, Andrews, and you enjoyed it so much last year you wanted to be a part of it again this year. What was your thought processing coming back?

Speaker 5: Definitely, I just enjoyed being around the guys, being in the facilities, being in the licensing, uh, being uner player in front of the the Kentucky fans.

Speaker 5: My brother gave them the same team, so all that went into one to be able to come back and try to try to win the championship this year.

Speaker 4: Yeah, Aaron, after you all did one, did you have kind of commit right away? Do you have the whole year to look forward to it. What's the excitement like now that you've figured out what it is and you know what you're getting into.

But nah, at the games, I kind of got a feeling once we had like an autograph signing and stuff that all the fan's gonna come and show and support us a lot.

Speaker 4: Last year you all, the highlight was in Louisville, and forgive me, I was a littleing cussed. If my details are off here, I got assaulted there. But I remember saying, this is the part where I always hits it, and I was talking about Aaron hitting the game winner, and then Andrew hits the elam ending. Was there any like, what the hell, man, that's my shot? Any brother? Jealousy there was? Was it his turn? How did that work out where Andrew finally got his chance to call game?

Speaker 5: I mean there's definitely no jealousy. Of course he had it going. It was a great shot, great play. So you know this type of stuff, you just you know, you just want to win. There's nothing, definitely no jealousy.

Speaker 4: How to feel to do that in Louisville. That that atmosphere was insane there in Freedom Hall. You being the road team, definitely that was fun.

Speaker 5: There's a lot of red in there. Was a little bit of blue, but there's a lot of red in there. So they were they booed us and stuff, which made me small. That may be smile them booing us when we ran on the court and everything, I mean shot was was good. Blood made the play, got it to me and I was able to make it, so it was pretty cool. I got he just saved us so many times, so at least I could do it one time.

Speaker 5: With It's okay, you know, it's okay when you win and when you lose, like I wish I had the rest of the game, but I mean it's okay. It's definitely a way for our teams not to just hold the ball or keep it exciting, you know, So it's cool.

Speaker 2: Aaron, I gotta ask you when you're back in Lexington or back in Kentucky. How many times a day do people ask you about the shot against Wisconsin or Louisville, Michigan. It's got to come up every single day you're here.

Speaker 5: Like that's probably the first thing that people ask, yeah, like, oh, how was this shot? Like how did it feel after? Like or they say what they were doing when, I when when it happened. So that's something that's like, you know, priceless. So it's pretty cool.

Speaker 2: And we even asked you here during the break which one of the shots was one that kind of curved in. It was the Michigan shot that kind of somehow magically curved in and went in.

Speaker 4: So yeah, thank god you get asked about that so much, including us right now. We even asked you when you first walked up. Sure this's a fun Kentucky memory. That wasn't one of your ten buzzer beaters you had. Surely there was a game or another moment that other people. We can remember you for something else too, because right now I said during the break, the four of us will be long gone and generations down the road we'll still be talking about there in Harrison shots.

Speaker 5: Uh yeah, So probably a memory besides that, probably, like m I mean, my first Big Blue Madness was kind of crazy, Like I think that that had a big impact on me, like just experiencing that, and then I feel I think I went to someone else's like whatever they call it similar and it wasn't even it wasn't close. So this is going to that that was just pretty cool, and that's something I all always remember just being in high school and that having a big impact on me.

Speaker 4: And you've carried the team several teams several times yourself, just not the buzzer beaters that he had. Did you have a favorite moment or a game that you really think fondly of looking back?

Speaker 5: That was probably like the best game that I played in while I was here in terms of going back and forth and just competition.

Speaker 6: So that was like a very memorable game, even.

Speaker 5: Though it was kind of early in the tournament, but we were actually the underdogs in that game. Yeah, and I don't know, we figured out a way to win. So that was a pretty cool moment. Louisville my freshman year was a good game. We were underdogs in that game as well. We ended up winning. There's so many any game that you win, I mean, but you remember the losses too. You remember the criticism of all the scrutiny that me and him took. So, I mean, you you become men, like at the end of the day, we became men here. You able to take the good and the bad. Gotta be able to have tough skin and not really care what other people say. So yeah, it's I mean, you become a man whether you want to or not. So it's it was funny. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Speaker 2: You guys talked about that last year when you were here. Archie Goodwin just got up. He kind of went through some things when he was here. Yesterday we had Khalil Whitney. He had some things when he was here, and all three of you kind of said the same thing. Helps you grow up as a man, not necessary as a basketball player, but helps you grow up as a person.

Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, because everybody's not gonna go on to make five hundred million dollars in playing in the NBA for twenty years. It just don't happen like that. So you gotta what kind of man are you gonna be? And you're gonna figure it out. Are you gonna complain and worry about what else, what somebody else got or what somebody else doing. So we always been like that. We never worry about what anybody else got going on. We're just trying to be the best us.

Speaker 5: Now, of course, I mean that's just a part of a part of coming here, part of our college careers. It was just you know, ups and downs, and you just become you become tough. Like you said, you have tough skin, and you learn not to let what other people say or do bother you really because we're gonna do it anyway.

Speaker 4: So let's get back to the present day with law of me. Oh, you're you're the point guard. What's her team looking like this year? Look some back, some new changes. Did you have any saying the roster and you're liking what they have there?

Speaker 6: I never have any say in the roster. Don't it's not that's not my job.

Speaker 5: But now we look great, man, we look great on defense, especially on defensive end. We got a lot of switchable parts. We can go one through one through twelve or eleven. I think that we have everybody on the team can play. Everyone's gonna stay committed and play the whole time. So I think we'll be fine. It's a tough field that we that that we have. It's like a you're a pretty good bracket and stuff like that. But if we play together, play defense, I think we'll be fine and we're gonna we're gonna finish it off this year, hopefully.

Speaker 4: Everyone we've talked to has said defense. This sounds like we're gonna have some unders Ryan, I think, is this is this the message behind the scene with the coaches, Just defense, defense, defense.

Speaker 5: I mean, you know, and in a tournament like this, it's all about it's about defense. No one's gonna come in there and play like and no one is gonna be such an offensive, fluid team in a week or so. But there will be talented players on every team, but you just can't let one player beat you. And I think that we have I think we have a team that it would be pretty tough for a player in this tournament to beat us by itself.

Speaker 4: So last season, when you got to it was the expectation kind of what you thought of just the competition and the level of play would be. We're kind of coming in not knowing what you're expecting. Did you feel like it met your expectations? Were people better than what you thought?

Speaker 5: No, I mean, if I'm being honest, it's not. I still don't feel like too many people are like better than me individually. So like in this tournament, we all look at we can look at it like that, like, oh no, none of these guys are individually better than us. But if we put it together, it's like it's like amazing. It's like something that that we don't have to do, but we're doing it just because we want to sacrifice for each other. So, you know, no one is gonna get a contract out of scoring thirty, especially not on our team. No one's gonna really gain anything individually by going off in that in the TBT, So we all know that, we know that the goal is to win. So that's the best part and what makes it fun.

Speaker 2: We had some of the guys say that the relationships they built with last year's team UK team kind of led them to follow the team more last year. Did you either one of you guys like follow the team a little more last year because you kind of knew these guys, He'd worked out against these guys and maybe develop a relationship with any of the guys.

Speaker 5: I think. I, I mean, I feel like I did have a little bit more of a relationship. I did kind of like check them out, check on it a little more than I Yeah, just because I did get to see them up close. I saw him in the summer, so it was just different, you know, it was it was kind of different.

Speaker 5: Cool to come back and see see the team and it has a different it has a different, different feel. Yeah, yeah, you agree, Andrew, Yeah, absolutely, just being around the guys, even coach Pope being new, wanted to check it out, seeing how they look. But even this year, I'll probably check them out even more and more, just because I know a couple a couple of kids on the team just from Houston, and they just seem like it's intriguing. It's like you don't really know if they're gonna be who they're gonna be. I'm not saying. I mean they look good yesterday, but you know, you never know who's summertime, so it's interesting to see how good they can get.

Speaker 4: You mentioned the connection you all know Jalen Low. He's new to Kentucky fans. What do you think everybody's getting out of the new point guard that came in from pitt Man.

Speaker 5: At first, he's a great kid, come from good parents and everything like that. Man, he was a little kid, like he's a little kid. He showed me a picture yesterday he was at David Bunchet. He's like a little kid and I was like, oh man, I feel real old.

Speaker 5: I mean his dad had him in basketball all his life, around basketball his life, so I mean, I think he'll do well here. He works hard, he's a leader, has some toughness, so he just got to keep working. I talked to him yesterday, gave him a few pointers and he'll be just fine.

Speaker 4: He did he reach out when he was considering Kentucky in the portal? Did you all have any conversations before he got to Leccident? Or is just now you're walking hi through it that he's here.

Speaker 5: No, no, no, I feel like, you know, everybody got to make that decision on their own, Like everyone's a different, different situation. College basketball is way different now than when I was picking, so it's a different mindset.

Speaker 5: I didn't get to talk to him about that. But I got to talk to him yesterday, and we did an interview earlier this week together, so I was able to talk to him. He was able to ask me some questions and stuff too.

Speaker 2: So, and you mentioned yesterday, we're not really allowed to talk much about it, but there seemed to have been a gathering yesterday with you got and the other guys. What's your takeaway from that, Aaron?

Speaker 5: It was it was fun. I mean, I think that they they're they're a good it's a it's a good group. It's an athletic group. I think that the SEC will be fun to watch this year. They I mean, they obviously have like a leader and they have I mean, they have a leader and coach pope, so I think I think they'll be fine in the SEC. I think they need to make sure they're physical enough. We were a little physical with them yesterday and They definitely fought back with that, so that was a good sign. So I think that's the main thing. Like SEC basketball is pretty physical, so that's probably what people are wondering when when a bunch of new guys come in and can they handle the SEC? Can they can? They do that every every week, but I think that they responded to us pretty well. So this week.

Speaker 4: Makes it easy for you all to interact with Pope and the team. I mean you're in the same building over there. But beyond TBT, I think Pope's done a good job reaching out to alumni. We hear stories of some other guys, you know, pictures with them. It's offered up the gym to anyone. Do you all feel like Pope's doing a good job of keeping everyone all all together?

Speaker 5: He definitely, He definitely leaves Blue for sure, like he loves it. He loves being here. He from what I see every day, he seems like he's grateful and he puts us on every day. So you can't ask for much more out of a coach. I mean, winning a tournament it's a one game thing out so you can't really judge judge someone like that, even though you know that's what we do. That's you you have to do. But yeah, I mean I think he's a right man for the job. Can't really put it in no other words, perfect guy for the job.

Speaker 4: That's one of my biggest takeaways having covered all of these guys since Cal's first year. Like in, Archie comes here and he's eighteen, and like any of them, they're right out of high school. They're shy, you know, they're kind of giving two word answers maybe a full sentence. You're not getting a lot out of them. They've been media trained. Now we're talking to thirty year old versions of those guys and grown men. Yeah, just having real good conversations about how it went. It's almost like we're I mean it's not almost. We're getting them in a different part of their life, a lot more mature and have a lot more to say about how it went.

Speaker 2: But in a little bit though, even with the Twins, they talk about the struggles they went through, they go right back to that moment and you could see and hear that they still feel that when they were eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old and they were here.

Speaker 4: And for people that only hear this and don't keep up with La Familiar on social media and all the stuff that's going on this week, it is really cool to see how much fans embrace these guys. Whether it's at a restaurant one night, or the bottle signing tonight, or over at the road show. Whatever they're doing is they're getting the same love that they were getting when they were showing up for games as college kids.

Speaker 2: And I think that's why a lot of these guys have come back, will eat the Twins. Some of these guys come back and run it back again because of exactly what you just said.

Speaker 4: A lot of the ones you mentioned. You know, Andrews said himself he didn't get to come back from the moment he left. Yeah, they've been playing proker. They're just slowly reaching the end of theirs. Then through TBT, they're all able to come back. We haven't. We haven't seen Archie in person probably since the Robert Morris game in Pittsburgh. So it was really good catching up with all of them.

Speaker 2: Well, I think he said that. He said, uh. When that game was over, he immediately left and has not come back, but he wanted to be a part of it. Last year signed with somebody else and made it a point to come back and play again this year to be be a feel a part of the BBN family again.

I think that kind of added to that look where we want you guys to feel as much part of this family as we feel about you guys.

Speaker 4: Yeah, Aaron said, you know, I'm checking on a little more than I would normally. I mean, in this coming year. They have the jailing connection that we got into a little bit. But that story has been written several times about how when he first got here he mentioned having connections to them. I think maybe Darren Fox connection all these Texas guards we keep getting here in Lexington.

This is the day that Trent Degerro got murdered by Shane Raglan July seventeenth. And there's a new documentary out that I watched it and it's awesome. I mean, people that know around here know the story and it's on it's called A Killer among Friends and it's on HBO. It's like six different episodes and the Trent dezero episode is episode number one A Killer among Friends on HBO. If you remember the story. I'm sure people around here they know the story. It's the officer Don Evans, is Antonio O'Farrell, some of the guys that were involved in it. It's kind of a new fresh look at what happened that night. I mean the house is still over there off campus, you know, still the paint of the same pale color blue. I mean, everybody knows around here knows that house. So I just wanted to mention that that this new documentary on One Party is out now, Killer among Friends.

You know, I got to watch guys like Brandon and I, Terrence Jones, Droon Lamb put on the show. You know, my brother was just sitting on the sideline. You know, it sucked and not having him play, but you know it was really cool, you know, watching a game. I think I was at the time, fifteen or sixteen years old, my first year coming to America. So I'm like, if they have that type of love for college basketball, you know, it's cool.

A lot of the guys, you know that we were a little rusty, you know, just getting off of planes and stuff like that, so somebody had to you know, put on a little bit of a show. So nah, I just was really more pleased and happy that the guys were, you know, really encouraging of it.

Experience, you know, in his legacy from UK carries, you know, he knows what he's doing. So you know, we're having him on the coaching staff, especially as the head coaching made it a lot more comfortable to come to play, you know, for UK alumni and UH and to be a part of the journey because I believe these guys are one of the best teams last year. So hopefully I'm one of the secret recipes to get it done this year.

We're competing, you know, and last year was able Familia's first year doing that so this year we have more experience. We got to the final four, so I think having that experience is key for us, and having veterans like Drone Lambs, someone who won a championship here.

Did you expect that when you committed to play in the TVT that you'd be playing in these big sold out or you knows like you have been?

Two years ago I was playing for the college that I went to, Xavier, and we hosted Cincinnati and we got about eight thousand, and I think that was the second most fans that was ever at at a game. First was Witchita at nine thousand. I definitely didn't expect sixteen seventeen thousand at a TVT game. You know, it's summertime. People usually, you know, not as school students are not here, so it was it was a cool game. I'm glad he won that game, you know, bragging Rice for an entire year.

But now I'm just ready to do my part. You know, I expect you know, sold out arenas. I expect you know, big time shots. I expect big time plays, you know, because that's what you want. I'm a competitor, so I didn't want to sign up for nothing that was you know, wasn't up to par. So I believe, you know, it's one of the best competitions that you know, could be available right now.

But uh yeah, I mean as a competitor, like I said, you know, you want, you know, big time shots, you know, big time plays. So yeah, it's fun, you know when you're on a on a good side of it, you know, but uh, you know it has its cons definitely, you know when you're on the other side of it.

So that was that was really cool to see. You know, I'm looking forward to seeing these guys. I think they they you know, they put up a good fight yesterday, so I'm looking forward to following.

So yeah, I mean anytime I could just come out here and you know, play with you know, Kentucky legends and meet new people and things like that and make connections, you know, I was definitely down for it.

So but yeah, there's definitely an advantage and definitely something that will be used for sure.
