Episode 127 - The 500 worlds pt 1 - The galaxy is a dumpster fire, so time for Ultramar to save it

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we jump into the 500 worlds campaign. We open with a breakdown of the state of the galaxy in “modern” 40k. From there we jump into the background of the Imperium and the Necrons. We then go over to the set up of Ultramar and how the campaign there is to work, with a focus on Titus and his role in the campaign. We then close out on the Necrons and the C’tan shards, primarily the night bringer.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Forty-K-Lorecast with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: With the close of 10th edition upon us, GW has decided, once again, move the narrative forward with a chunk of lore that they just drop out of nowhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: And say, like it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And since this lore is heavily revolving on Gilliman and the Ultra Marines, there was no way I was going to miss out on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which also,
[SPEAKER_01]: Does again, Bobby G going, do as I say, not as I do because, wow, the ultra-brings took the codex of star days, put it into a t-shirt gun and fired it into a t-shirt.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, they have the codex of star days.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they're with.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's right over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's that thing you do, or it's all right, it's over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: If anyone asks for it to see it, I have a copy of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, it's over there, it's a little bit dusty.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so today we're going to jump into the new campaign books of 500 worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's very well written and really set the stage for the state of the galaxy as we're launching into a level of addition, closing out gillemuses in dominant campaign, but also launching is in dominant campaign.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Bye.
[SPEAKER_00]: 40K lore cast weekly show in the lore the Warhammer 40K universe releasing every Monday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
[SPEAKER_00]: Please continue comment like it boosts a rather than number of links are in the show notes too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Links to our YouTube channel for our bi-monthly Q&A and some other random stuff we dump in there are others show the history of 40K where you can listen to Brad myself and Alan discuss the history of this game on a tabletop most of it was broken.
[SPEAKER_00]: We also have links
[SPEAKER_00]: are merchandise, where we do have, actually expanding out, get some new objective markers coming, some new dice, and some new clothing coming right on the pipe.
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, our Patreon, our Patreon is awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: You guys have done an incredible job with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot thank you enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's why we have better audio, it's why you said, or kind of everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: with the Patreon very simple, $4.99 a month gets you this show and the history of 40k ad-free, or for our dolphin and crab lovers, 7.12 Australian.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mandara, Western Australia is the place or people who like water and apparently don't like people that much because there's about 10 people per square kilometer and just calling it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fisherman's paradise with an abundance of sea life and great coastal waters.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like the for the Americans.
[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like it might be the San Diego ish of Australia, average summer, 10th of 23 Cs of 75 degrees average winter, 10th of 13 C, 55 degrees, but they do get lightning storms, really impressive ones, like terrifyingly impressive ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you don't like lightning, don't go there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't go there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to stay away from the place that the storm Lord throws down.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say, emo tech with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: But we're got our net runs today.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is hardcore lightning storm pretty impressive.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they have had a couple days of like 120.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this stuff comes up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It also is kind of hard to get to.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really long flight.
[SPEAKER_00]: So basically, if you're going to Perth, because let's see only visiting you're going to be in Western Australia, yeah, take a drive down.
[SPEAKER_00]: Go take a look at it, Menderra.
[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lastly, Discord, click into the Discord, join our Discord, 12,000 people have done it, so you should too.
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: The world's worst reason ever.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about the good things, Jad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, great community that's really welcoming.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have tons of channels, movies, literature, lore, everything you could think of.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously a lot of 40k.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we just have a lot of chance going on about kind of everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a good time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, names are the best.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Through the show, Retro Recall, I do an old video games.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing Lemming's right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: So following is a key thing in my life.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which by the way, Lemming's is awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: I totally forgot how much I love that game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow Lemming's is fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but on onto the cast, let's dig into this.
[SPEAKER_00]: the state of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we part of the show we bounce around a lot and we talk about more.
[SPEAKER_00]: So before we get into the 500 worlds, I really need to take us all the way up to absolute modern 40K and what's going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Spoiler alert.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not great.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the onset of the 41st millennia, the Milky Way is a dumpster fire full of poo.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dr.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fires are mad that you compare them to the current state of 40k.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so let's kind of go through all of the bits.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go from kind of, let's, let's start minor.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with the best.
[SPEAKER_00]: the car.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is the least of the problems.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say we'll go low, low problems.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, what are the little problems?
[SPEAKER_01]: The torture guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the least of your problems?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, technically, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everybody's aligned under fact.
[SPEAKER_01]: He lost a little bit of glow with Janay taking a lot of organizing the elder together, but not really.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's still the law in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah,
[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever looked at someone that wants to take advantage of someone in their weakest points, if you want to punch down, your carry are your peeps, and if that's ever a chance to hit a wounded duck, duh, duh, duh, duh.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is your time because man, the galaxy is on fire, tons of places that used to be really well-defended,
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're not me more, and you know who loves to do rating parties, that'd be the Jakari, and they would love to go, hey, did you lose your fortified place that you used to defend you?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it sucks to be you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do some rain.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I hope you like camera because I'm one way to take it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, but that's the one of those boiler, not going to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of the better parts for the Imperiums, actually Drew Carrey raids, they're one of the lower problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because actually, I would argue the bigger problem for them, is the actual L-DAR.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the L-DAR, I mean, it's complicated.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why is because first off, which L-DAR are you dealing with?
[SPEAKER_00]: Bill Tan, there's still attacking settlements all over the place, because they're convinced the L-DAR are coming back.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh, next week we're coming back, and I got to preserve this neighborhood.
[SPEAKER_00]: roof, but then you also have Eldrade and you've rain who on the one hand brought Gillman back to life, but you really can never trust Eldar, because they brought him back to life, but is it actually to do a good thing or to just get in the way of something to the Eldar don't die?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll say yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to point out that Gilliman and Trasian Valoris both were kind of like, yeah, you guys can leave now, because it's like, they haven't really reached out to their old friends since taking power, which tells you even they were like, look, I appreciate the help, but there's a zero percent chance.
[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't have to be the hard catch.
[SPEAKER_00]: because the LDAR are actively attacking.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to put the difference is the Jucari are rating, which is if you're at a subject of the rate, it definitely sucks, but they are rating.
[SPEAKER_00]: The LDAR are attacking.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there are actual space marine on LDAR conflicts routinely, where the LDAR are attacking.
[SPEAKER_00]: We just covered the blood ravens last week, you know, with the LDAR kept like, oh, no, what if we blow up a couple planets?
[SPEAKER_01]: Weirdly enough, they are sometimes the allies, sometimes that you don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing is, is that to be fair, most marines for its most imperiant period just don't know the difference between the craft world and between the factions inside.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're built here or somehow I have no idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, is this a Yenari thing, you know, what are we looking at?
[SPEAKER_01]: What are they trying to do?
[SPEAKER_00]: You have no idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what I know is the hell out of the yelled are.
[SPEAKER_00]: Where they're like, come on, it's really obvious.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you not tell my eyebrow moved up?
[SPEAKER_00]: A millimeter, obviously I'm Sam High.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why are you also stupid?
[SPEAKER_00]: That's basically how this goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Another one that's equally problematic, but used to not be, or the Votem.
[SPEAKER_00]: Leagues of Votem used to be actually a benefit for the Imperium, because they were incredible at trading.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've colonized a part of the space where they had caused part of the space where they were getting all the best minerals.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were a great trading option.
[SPEAKER_00]: Full of mercenaries, which the Imperium could use a ton of, but now they're invading Imperial space and taking Imperial planets for their own.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, they're super powerful, and it also from a place where the Imperian didn't readily defend before.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it was a trade came out of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: You basically got attacked from the people who were trading with you happily every day.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, and then you discovered the guys you were treated happily, but they had better weapons than you did.
[SPEAKER_00]: but speaking of things that are terrible, the Tao.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Tao and I'm not talking to you guys, the Tao are one of the biggest problems if you think about it on paper.
[SPEAKER_00]: They should be allies.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason why the Tao and the Imperium should not be allies.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't like chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're, they're tower under threat from necrons and tyrannids and yet constant full blown war.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the Damikley's Gulf Crusade was such a drained imperial resources that had actually put the Imperium back.
[SPEAKER_00]: There are no former relations between the two of them, and while the tower right now bit more occupied with tyrannids and necrons and orcs, they're still planning a new sphere of expansion into the Imperium to go try and reclaim it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're also not even winning any of those other workers.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they're losing terribly.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, hey, man, the sixth mirror is going to be most of a political show.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really the towel.
[SPEAKER_01]: Loving it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is pretty funny because you're just like, we should probably fix the rest of the area before we do anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: They won't be missed.
[SPEAKER_00]: They won't be missed.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're the biggest threat right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's good.
[SPEAKER_00]: I actually disagree with this one, but it's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: I could see that.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this is that once I think the rift is bigger than anything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: Abadance 13th crusade tore through is still wrecking.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is the big bad, but the bigger thing is the I've tear became the rift.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the rift is a larger problem than anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'm touring it.
[SPEAKER_00]: On the one hand, yes, the problem was before the eye of terror was there, it was surrounded by imperial defenses.
[SPEAKER_00]: It made chaos as incursion to the galaxy in theory hard, but never seemed to be that hard because they did all the damn time anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just calling it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But now chaos is a lot more access to the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: The flip side to that though is it's still chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the more chaos can gain the more chaos in fights.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I look at chaos as a yes, I'll give you the yes, but but the second, but the double but is the fact that because of the rift is making it strike in places they couldn't go for it's letting chaos colds rise up in places that they never should have had.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are also the chaos can accidentally cause the downfall of the galaxy by some of the threats we're going to talk about in two seconds.
[SPEAKER_01]: Boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can basically eat more easily, take over Imperium space because it's being weakened by culture and they're causing a lot more problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the bigger ones, it's kind of like all the big three because it said chaos is not for chaos players and chaos fans.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's saying chaos is not a threat.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just chaos always chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be as they get more power and more access, they just turn on themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they tend to almost self-contain.
[SPEAKER_00]: as a result of it, as opposed to the tyrannets, who will not self-contain, they have to be contained.
[SPEAKER_00]: And high fleet the Viathon was our start-up of ninth edition.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're in tenth edition now.
[SPEAKER_00]: It came in from effectively every direction of the Milky Way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman and crew were able to kind of nip in the bud.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the ones coming closer to segmentum solar, but they are still pressing into the galaxy everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a reason that one of our seasons of competitive 40K was called Leviathan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they had a very broken codex for like six months.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, which was, honestly, played in the lore correctly.
[SPEAKER_00]: The tyrannids right now, it's funny, because when Space Marine 2 came out, tyrannids actually weren't that strong in the game, or even in the lore, but timings timing.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they are a ever present threat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilman is basically virus bombing planets all around the galaxy to just starve them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the reason that they've been held back a little bit is all the imperial areas they come into just get virus bond.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the fleet starving and then they're hitting other spots.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the ultimate, I give a whole Chinese credit on this because they're one of the first.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they found that you don't fight strength strength.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're basically pick on the tendrils.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, caught off portions of the tear in the veins.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's Darves, exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's Darves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they've been kicking in, they're kicking it off.
[SPEAKER_01]: But tear in is our, I mean, they can, you could say that they're the big bad to be honest with you on this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they're terrifying,
[SPEAKER_01]: and they just keep getting more and more and more, unless you put it completely down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and things like GSC are terrifying also.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, GSC are the are an issue, but one way you handle Ternids is orcs, because that this is where, and it's why at least last three are kind of important.
[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of play into each other and also a bit into chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Orcs are
[SPEAKER_00]: about to kind of dive into their glow up.
[SPEAKER_00]: We know it's coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're spoiler guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a hit 11th edition.
[SPEAKER_00]: Orcs are part of the launch package.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it could be gas is back again.
[SPEAKER_00]: But guys, we know he's reforming.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's getting his wob, a back up ring.
[SPEAKER_00]: Armageddon's probably about to have his 87th invasion at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's not going to go well for them.
[SPEAKER_01]: For the orange fans, I still love the fact that gas is two words taped together with duct tape, but
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, one of the works is gas.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other one is Mike.
[SPEAKER_00]: The other actually might be multiple orcs taped together with gas head taped on the sand it's gas head taped on the he might monstros.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is gas Voltron
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, that'd be a good kit bash.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, but the orgs are looking for a scrap anywhere they can find once.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what's happening is for the Imperium, as these fires are happening all over the place, you do have work in stations everywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we talk about the orgs largely with like the War of Armageddon, with gas, we like to talk about orgs with stuff like the War of the Beast, etc.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, last week we were talking about blood rapids and how they were just his random orgs,
[SPEAKER_00]: on attacking.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's also happening throughout the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Random or war bands are causing problems, and they don't get snuffed out easily.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have people, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was just saying, one of the big things is you're like we're talking with your current.
[SPEAKER_01]: Your carry rate and leave, orcs you have to put down completely, or just festers and grows and grows and grows and grows.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you have to get rid of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: because they, if you leave them alone too long, they'll just be trying again.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you knock them down, I don't hate the quote, Chomba Womba here, but they will get back up again.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you should help, but I get that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can say that ain't nothing gonna hold this up.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it is like he's saying that that's just that didn't feel good.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be honest that one didn't feel good But that is what works do you push it works down and they come back up which is a huge issue for the guys Never be yeah, that's Matt the Chumbo one more thing might be better, but let's get to
[SPEAKER_00]: the next one though is that the second largest threat though is actually from within and that is the actual citizens of the imperial rebellion and piracy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to separate them out from it because it's hard to be because you're getting more of this because you're getting more opportunities and getting more compliance.
[SPEAKER_00]: see this is where I'm I'm intentionally trying to separate these two out.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to separate them because you're always going to have we've got red core serpyrus we know that's there.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've got rift rebellion that's going to be there where inquisters are coming in there and finding out that governors are actually agents of slenash that's going to happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you're also just getting straight up the more war and the more you turn the mechanisms and make the life of this
[SPEAKER_01]: rebellion you're going to give it watch some of the stuff on Warhammer plus every single video is if you watch actual commonplace in the imperial it's yeah regular person in the imperial exact so bad yeah and that's where it it's the whole thing about this is
[SPEAKER_00]: You get a lot of these rebellions, a lot of these, and something we're just, something we're just subtle.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's something we're just like, guys, it stops paying a period of time to see what happens.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them are more extreme, but we're going to form our independence.
[SPEAKER_00]: Piracy is the same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's really easy to be a pirate in 40K right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because, oh, a shipping vessel went missing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and, like, it's not hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a big thing, let's go again, why it sucks to be just part of a regular people in the period, because piracy's a big thing, because if something gets pirated and you bitch about it, you could be censored or killed yourself for not taking care of your, why did you let that vessel get pirated?
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to punish you for this.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, we're just not going to tell them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't need a
[SPEAKER_00]: Chapter of Marines killing everyone because we didn't hit cold on it and this rebellion and piracy one's important especially for some stuff we're going to talk about in this cast today because what happens is these two things make this segmentums and the systems less functional because even if you do get a world that's producing really really well getting the bits off that world into other worlds then turn to other goods is a challenge
[SPEAKER_01]: It would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it would, it
[SPEAKER_01]: The everything kind of sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really, really sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: 40k is whoo.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: But we're doing 500 worlds and anyone who's seen any reveals on it knows there's one faction we haven't talked about in the main faction.
[SPEAKER_00]: Neck Rolls.
[SPEAKER_00]: Neck Rolls.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, back in episodes 1-0-1-1-0-3, we jumped into Pariah Nexus.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we do a quick recap to get to the beat of it so we can get into
[SPEAKER_00]: Necrons have been awakening in the kind of small piecemeal status from Evans about M30.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very small around M30, but you know, we've all read infant and divine and if you haven't, go read it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ed, but it's very small.
[SPEAKER_00]: When they were wake up, it's mostly as a function like calamity or invasion.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the later that invasion bit became a lot more common as the millennia went by.
[SPEAKER_00]: because we don't know when, but at some point during this period, the ad mech became aware of Necron II worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're the ad mech, and you find this massive, incredibly technologically advanced race, slumbering an underground tomb that they could read and pillage,
[SPEAKER_01]: pillage, AdMek are the people in the horror movie that are consistently going, we should split up.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is, yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the AdMek has spent thousands of years raiding Necron tomb worlds, and they were really good at it for a while, because they actually memorized, you know, and planned out the method Necrons would defend themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Really think, it might mind, this is the lab, but this is how I've always remembered it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The AdMek were like bank robbers that knew exactly how long the cops were going
[SPEAKER_01]: how when they got the silent alarm and everything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how they were.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Ed Mc have been super willing to let other people deal with their masks, because they're like, did we awaken these guys?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it takes this amount of time before so we can steal stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then get the hell out of here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the admit, they had a really good run of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were stealing technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were selling weaponry, power supplies.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know how much they got out of this, but it's probably quite a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're welcome, Skittari.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right.
[SPEAKER_00]: They did really well, but then M41 came around.
[SPEAKER_00]: M41 is when the Necron slumber was set to end.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, they nailed this pretty close, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Two worlds now stop being awoken by a geologic event or an invasion, which is kind of haphazard, it was more designed to wake up what you need to and deal with it instead planned awakenings.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now you're getting lords over lords coming in, the entirety of the warrior class are now or awakened.
[SPEAKER_01]: The dynasties are coming unlocked and the ad back are getting Chuck Norris kicked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, instead of me Yeah, and it's hilarious because and this is it's a great scene of the book where the ad MacArthur go to Gilman and be like, so hey, we need your help with this zino race And Gilman and all the beer and we're like, okay, well, how many of them are there?
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, you know, what drillias there are?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of amount.
[SPEAKER_00]: That many, they're also more advanced than we are.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we've, and we've also known about them for 10,000 years and they tell it also, we could have totally done something about this way before we are.
[SPEAKER_00]: We just didn't want to tell you guys because we've been stealing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: And much.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Gilman has to pivot because all of a sudden, the tyranny invasion is no longer the greatest threat.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's now the neck renovation.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about why, though, because it's underneath it.
[SPEAKER_01]: How crowded vision is right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, where are they invading from right there?
[SPEAKER_01]: When I say right there, just look out the window.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where they're coming in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're coming in.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're coming in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dave, I couldn't use this information yesterday.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, should we make a tremors reference?
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but it's going with wedding singer, but uh, come on.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going with trailers way better.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a very strangely entertaining film.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but let's get to what the 500 world.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilliman, now he's trying to take control of the Imperium and the first thing he does is triage.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's just not enough forces to fight all the battles.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he has to make a bunch of tough choices to solidify the Imperium, kind of claw it back from the break.
[SPEAKER_00]: luckily has some experience from this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because as far as he was concerned, he was doing this 200 years ago because Fogram stabbed him and he's been asleep since he got stabbed by Fogram.
[SPEAKER_00]: So when Fogram stabbed him, he was still running the let's bring the Imperium back from the Horus Harrison thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: He woke up and went out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So basically, you guys just stopped exactly where I was when I died.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Back at it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a guillotine, everything we're spoken to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was so mad.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's so guillamined is furious for the record, by the way, that how little was done in his absence.
[SPEAKER_01]: But how backwards we are?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So one of the first things guillamined does is folks on resources and resource management, because the Imperium is a thirsty beast.
[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to resources.
[SPEAKER_00]: and you try to keep them as centralized as possible, but goods still have to travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: And even if it's only a system or two, it's still enough to be interrupted.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gillerman goes about sort of fortifying and securing all the most important and most critical shipping routes.
[SPEAKER_00]: What this does is it actually slows down the movement of goods, but it makes it so the reliability of those goods are coming goes up massively, which is he did this actually during the horse heresy, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to say, this is another reason why love G. Man, he's a genius, but he also went, hey, you're on a fringe world, and you're going to have to figure it out for a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got some, I got to do some other stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he starts doing this, but the same time, Gilman also needs to build a backbone for the imparing to build off of.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the challenge is, we talk about segmentum solar.
[SPEAKER_00]: segmentum solar obviously is the most important part of the imparing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost all settled, but a lot of it's noble worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: What I would call them, these are a little bit holly-toyty.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's night worlds in there, cardinal worlds, administrative worlds, etc.
[SPEAKER_00]: segmentum solar's purpose
[SPEAKER_00]: But more importantly, segment and solar is at the last bastion of the imperium of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you just concentrate everything there, you have no fallback point.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just we're all here and then we die.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you actually kind of want to take the fight to the enemy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And kind of you might as close them as you possibly can.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he needed a place that he could take the fight to the enemy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Far enough away from segmentum solar that he also could fall back to.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he decided to pick a place that he grew up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I will say one thing about Gilliman that said a bunch of times before, he doesn't do things in error.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is no different.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me do it aside though real quick for everybody because a lot of times we talk about a system of planet where primarx from Ultramar isn't even one system.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost its full sector basically yeah Ultramar's it consists of many systems and huge amounts of worlds Ultramar isn't a small place it isn't hey you
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the whole world of blah, blah, blah.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, Ultra Mar is a full multi system small empire.
[SPEAKER_01]: You got to remember that during the Horace Heresy, this was gonna be where we base the new Imperium off of when we make our comeback.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then when all the emperors not dead, yeah, we gotta get back.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, Gillian picking Ultramar is again, it's not him being a Homer.
[SPEAKER_00]: This actually makes complete sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason he picks Ultramar is not because he's a Homer, Gillian picks Ultramar because it's the right call.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I say that not because I'm an Ultramar in fan, it's because of what Ultramar Mart is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Partly it.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, but it's true though, that's about Ultramar.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Ultramar is the most highly functioning system in the entire period.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, in fact.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's my point.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Dark Age of Technology, most of the galaxy suffers massively.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor goes out in the great crusade, and most of what he finds is devastation destruction.
[SPEAKER_00]: What worlds did survive the Dark Age?
[SPEAKER_00]: were largely isolated barely able to survive and the few that did they thrived a little bit but then Ultramar is a whole different world Ultramar is a segmentum that actually thrived through the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is funny because of the fact that joining the
[SPEAKER_00]: the worst thing that it is, the worst I have in the Ultra.
[SPEAKER_00]: The worst thing that ever happened Ultra Mar was joining the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: They had none.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of their bad history happened after joining the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it sucks for Ultra Mar.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: that's why Gilman picks it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the most productive part of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have been invaded so many times, yet it's still the most productive parts of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the most fortified parts of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Ultramar sits in a very advantageous place.
[SPEAKER_00]: It sits in the ultimate sector, which is to the right of soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, it sits really far from soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost on the Eastern
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this is also why highly behemoth hit it when it did Ultramar is actually closer to the Tao Empire and the Votan Empire than it is to soul meaning it's pretty but also means that you can launch stuff out of there and hit your enemies quickly if your enemies are the Tao which they think it's made up of five sectors and I want to point out that's not five systems five sectors and yeah it's it's big.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just big.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what interesting too is we say 500 worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: The 500 worlds is an old definition for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: When the emperor got there, it was 500 set of worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: This has shifted around a little bit because there's been a lot of invasions in the last 10,000 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: There may not be 500 worlds, there might be more than 500 worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of hard to tell because it's been a little bit much there, but we call it the 500 worlds because that was the old term for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, a region this large can't be governed by a single entity.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's actually split into four slash five sectors.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little bit weird how this is done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Each sector of the four sectors is run by what's called a touchwork.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a term for those who may recognize it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a latin term.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's from Rome, GW stole this.
[SPEAKER_00]: of deoslidian, dichloric and dichlorium, split the Roman Empire up because of what he got too large.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he actually split it into two Augustine rule, one east, one west, then he had two chisars who were deputies underneath them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So all four of them became the tetrarch and the idea was that with this many people ruling it, they actually can handle all the functioning of the empire.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was wrong, the empire still fell, but that's a side note for a different day.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in GW, you might fell significantly earlier than the other, but you can say, yeah, mistakes were made.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, GW, when they were writing Ultramar, they wanted to keep a similar concept.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll be honest, this is a way better term for what they really are, which is feudal lords or war lords.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually what they really are.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being honest, their words.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is more because of the fact that they're in charge of the sector, but they're really more in charge of defending the sector because it's constant war.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's me.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's your main job.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're warlords.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just what have been awkward to call them warlords because when we think warlords, we think bad thing Because traditionally it's pretty much a bad thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of benevolent warlords in history.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I do like that he's coming back and she adds putting everything back into this is how we're doing it and he does
[SPEAKER_01]: drop, and I have to give this, they do a good job sometimes in the books of this, which is he is a little snarky about this, because he's like, yeah, we're going to do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like we were doing it before.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they stopped this, the tetrarch thing went away when he got stabbed by full-groom, they stopped doing this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he wakes up and goes, guys, what the f?
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so remember my perfect idea that was worth it working perfectly every single time so we're going to go do that again now right everyone Yeah, sorry about that are bad, but Hold on, John, what I want to talk about is let's talk about who's in charge of the North East South It was so unfortunately I had to do it Victory is mine this broke me so Brad is obviously about the show notes
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, so they broke up the realms for the Tetrax to rule and I have to name them now and unfortunately I have to do them with this is Navigation yeah navigational directions.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a way.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a way out of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So know how much I hate that I have to do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: First one is Konoor, it's in the North, it's ruled by Agamans.
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, he's going to be Agamemnon.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Agamemnon, sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not his right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I followed you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Brett, I both, we both, we are sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ultraman fans, it's Agamemnon.
[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot not read that when I see it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I know it's AG, E, M, M, A, N. That's not how you say it's not how you spell Agamemnon.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's Agamemnon.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's Captain of the first company.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then the South you have, and among that's Captain Portin, who's actually not an ultramarine.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's the head of one of their successors called the Genesis Chapter, which is not the band, but what have been a lot funnier if they named him, what's the, what's the, what's the, what's the, what's the, what's the,
[SPEAKER_00]: No, what's the lead singer Phil Collins Phil Collins it would have been way better if it was Captain Collins the Genesis chapter I'm just saying she will be misses these things and I even like Genesis, but I would have been a good part So this is all I am like a name every person in Genesis.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not surprised.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right the east you have this batter which is governed by Captain Felix of the 11th company
[SPEAKER_00]: And then pro toast to the West is garned by Captain Balthus, who's another successor chapter with a way cooler name called the Doom Eagle, which is a really good name for like a fighter wing.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a fair sector, but it's just, well, there's a fair sector, yeah, cowguard runs McRack, because no, we're not messing around with this bit, and then all of them report to Gilman.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this makes sense, because each of them, even though they're space marines, they're very, these are good.
[SPEAKER_00]: ultra elite space marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's always so much data and thinking they can do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman can do all of it, but that's the idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: It breaks apart this way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, another key part about this whole region is that ultra mar and the ultra marines are beat up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ultramar is the most profitable and most double region in the Imperial outside of Seoul.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that is in spite of the efforts of chaos and Zenos for the last 10,000 years over and over.
[SPEAKER_00]: And over.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why is this job?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because as Brad loves to say, there is nothing in thicker in 40k than the plot armor of the Ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing that almost wiped out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's have fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go through what the original attack by the word bears should have killed everybody there.
[SPEAKER_01]: They effectively blew up a planet out there on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They got wrecked during war the beast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then we took some time off first tyrannic invasion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it ironed warriors?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, with the tear did's work.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they just got slammed into.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's an iron warrior's invasion that actually took out a chunk of planets.
[SPEAKER_00]: The plague wars invasion of Konoor effectively over by the way, there's still plague forces out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, invasion of Konoor, that one actually did get snuffed.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Black Legion is still there because when they break resurrected Gilliman, and they came in in Matt.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is one of my favorites, by the way, for anti ultramarines, because Abidad heard that they were about the Res G-Man, and he went, yeah, cancel my calendar.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going there now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't go well for him, though.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say that much.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like new.
[SPEAKER_00]: He did not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, there's so many.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, Mark Terri and my third tier ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's so bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ultramar has been wrecked, but every time the Ultramarines,
[SPEAKER_00]: deal with it and then rebuild.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what happens is a lot of their worlds have been lost permanently to destruction of Imperial forces, but Ultramar continues as the worlds are lost, new worlds are colonized, as a stardise die, new recruits are found.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what matters is this chance from secret level.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yet, Elstra lives.
[SPEAKER_01]: Elstra lives.
[SPEAKER_00]: I basically is what's going on here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But what matters most for this campaign that's launched here is for the majority of the forces of Ultramar are not Ultramarines or Stardes, they're humans.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are regular, militarum, and imperial navy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to throw just a tiny bit of a shame.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like it a quite a bit because I still think this is how they should do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've also said they can play warrior lodges, but he's part of the Imperial Navy and the Imperial Guard this with him.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that these guys are more loyal to Ultramar than they are.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they are, yeah, that's what that is an important piece.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big piece.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are Ultramar people first.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're people second.
[SPEAKER_00]: Astramilitarium regiments are from Ultramar planets.
[SPEAKER_00]: Their imperial navy is all built in Ultramar and, you know, crude by Hiov Malchore.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a,
[SPEAKER_00]: The forces of Ultramar are almost an independent place.
[SPEAKER_00]: If it wasn't that Gilman is part of the Imperium, but if he wanted to not be, it would not be an an instant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not very codex of stardies following.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll admit that, I'll admit that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But again, he doesn't have to follow the book.
[SPEAKER_00]: He wrote it, that's how cults work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that, that, that comments I get me in some trouble.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, all right, let's talk about our boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows and loves Titus.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a fantastic video game character.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gillibon texts his old friend.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, this is the kind of task that you give to somebody you hate.
[SPEAKER_00]: His old friend who he's never met, I will be honest, okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna cover a lot of tie this next couple episodes Tie this got wedged into this thing into a gap that did not exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna be kidding.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have this whole thing with the touch marks all ruling these areas and
[SPEAKER_00]: Space Marine 2 sold just a little bit too well and games workshop went what are we going to do we can't just have Titus hanging out somewhere I got an idea and I actually like the idea, but this makes super cool it's super cool
[SPEAKER_01]: He just got put on the world's toughest pimp of all time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it went, hey, man, to show that you're good, why don't you recapture the 500 worlds?
[SPEAKER_01]: Which one of them?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, no, all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's worse than that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what Gilman's plan is, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's just, though, because he's like, he doesn't have to recapture them.
[SPEAKER_00]: He just gets the worst part of the recapturing of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilman's plan is a two-pronged approach.
[SPEAKER_00]: First is, grow all the worlds in silence.
[SPEAKER_00]: been brought back and he's put meet him master of the watch, putting him in charge of fortifying and securing Ultramar.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this, we'll get to his role in a second because his role is hilariously difficult.
[SPEAKER_00]: The role the Tetruarchs is to go through and deal with this constant problem the Imperium has.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at the imperium over the last 10,000 years, they probably have as many or a little bit more worlds than they did at the start of the horse heresy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but there might be only 10 percent of them are the same worlds that were there as sort of heresy.
[SPEAKER_00]: because so many worlds just change over, from invasion and all this stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And all this stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And all this stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And getting exterminated.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also trade hands, you know, you're trading cards of who took it over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chaos, Necrons, or invasion.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, it keeps changing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I, we settled it again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay guys, nothing could push my happiness time.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's never like a real net positive you're getting out of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the challenge is that it almost pure can all your victories.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliam in is like, no, we're done with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: All the tetrarchs you are going to launch a campaign.
[SPEAKER_00]: First, you're going to fortify all your world.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not losing anymore wins.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then you're going to start occupying and taking worlds from the surrounding systems.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that you're gonna make ultramar bigger.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna go from 500 rolls to like 700 rolls, okay?
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna expand out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these worlds, by the way, will be peaceful acquisition.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at that in a minute.
[SPEAKER_00]: Others not so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Titus's role was, all right, he's basically,
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a better term for this that would work for Americans, but rugby fullback or soccer fullback.
[SPEAKER_00]: His job, he's just, yeah, it's just to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, I don't feel this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't watch baseball.
[SPEAKER_00]: So five fair enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, his job is still here.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's the center fielder.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's not midfield because midfield's different.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is more like because his role is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true.
[SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
[SPEAKER_01]: He's following the ball.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so with Titus' job, he's been given the strike crews to the righteous fury, and it's full support fleet, which is rough.
[SPEAKER_00]: And his little retinue, we're going to get to in a second, and his job is to go out there and just deal with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Effectively, anyone was in the problems you deal with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is why it's such a whack.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, he's on a pip that he can't fix.
[SPEAKER_01]: He, ready, all the other touch trucks are doing with their thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: He said, fix anything that they're having an issue with.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I will say his crew is interesting to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: So some of these people, you all know, Gatriel, he's back, who's been promoted to an ancient.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so he's there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, Metaris, the guy who recruited Titus, who you saved from taking a orbital strike to the face and secret level, he's there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But we get new people.
[SPEAKER_00]: We get Commodore Gaia Selva who leads the Navis Imperial Fleet for Titus.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the one thing I do like about him is he actually leads a battleship called the Magnificence in Throne.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good naming.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good naming.
[SPEAKER_00]: All I will say, GW should have gone with.
[SPEAKER_00]: This would have been the perfect chance for BODY McBoatface.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could have been.
[SPEAKER_00]: The British listeners know what I'm getting out there, it would have been epic and they could have done it and that would have been great.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Commodore Silva has a larger ship than Titus and a larger fleet which makes sense because the Imperial Navy does have the largest ships with a couple exceptions of whatever the thing that Imperial Fists have, that's special.
[SPEAKER_00]: He also has Amelia Minervis, who I enjoy.
[SPEAKER_00]: She runs the, to what we was talking about, the McRag defense oxalo, which is basically, she's one of the leaders of the McRag.
[SPEAKER_01]: She got a crap sound advertisement.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, she has.
[SPEAKER_00]: The one that's interesting when they, because this isn't the book, they're listing out all the people that are with him, they name his astropath.
[SPEAKER_00]: Dino Cornelius.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why I'm assuming this is either an over-attention to detail or a foreshadow.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those two.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a foreshadow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, ask for that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Die.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason to name it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to name it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And ask for that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys either just straight die or you're like, this guy's gonna be a demon later.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then the last one they have is important.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lusia Vesta, Lusia Vesta, her role is diplomatic because not all the worlds in Ultramar need to actually have war brought to their shores.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them just are they're basically part of the Imperium, but not part of Ultramar.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why she's one of the most important people because when you were making Titus's sheet, you didn't put a whole lot of points in the charisma and diplomacy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, somebody else has to have someone's guy go talk to the imperial governors who's not just going to cleave them in half with a chain sort and Titus was going to do that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So her job is to go talk to them and say, hey,
[SPEAKER_00]: See that big angry person behind me?
[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna talk to one of the two of us and this could go really well, or whatever he's gonna do.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Titus and his crew, but we're coming on their job now is to just deploy wherever the tech trucks were in the problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: They hit an issue, he's gonna go.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's gonna hit one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy, because the task ahead is rough.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ultramar is a mess.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have plague war planets that have nirgles curse on them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So these are demon worlds inside of Ultramar that can't be ignored because their corruption could spread to other worlds and can't be reclaimed because nirgles curse.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they have to be destroyed if you can or quarantined.
[SPEAKER_00]: That sucks.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have world that have fallen to chaos like 11 times.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Use your billions.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also have fortified.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about the fact that they're not just rebellions.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have giant fortified planets that have orbital defenses around them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they have no desire to be
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but the problem is some of these worlds, so like one of them is the sick our system is incredibly wealthy.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got it's all natural resources.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have to reclaim it and it's going to be a fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: You also have worlds to still have tiered in on them, a bunch of them, just all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these are usually by the way, Agree Worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Agree Worlds with lictures on them.
[SPEAKER_00]: agerals of warriors, gods.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have to go down there and find them and kill them because they're just going to terrorize the local population.
[SPEAKER_00]: For the most part, you know, the predatory plants are there, but that's the thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, yeah, orcs.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've also got org planets all throughout all chimar because where there's a fight there's an org and there's always an org then we have your standard pirates just floating around and you know just your regular old planets of hey I just don't really want to be part of the Imperium
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, we kind of glossed over at the pirate forces.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some of these pirate lords are wildly powerful.
[SPEAKER_01]: Third, yeah, small warlords unto themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like it's a go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is more black beard.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he wasn't real, but still the concept of black here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is, it's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's actually going to dread pirate Roberts.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, yeah, this is serious.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are, these are fleets.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are giant fleets doing this stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then yeah, it's just a whole system's kind of a mess.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilman's also making this a little bit worse because he's also in effect increasing the imperial tithe for all of Ultramar,
[SPEAKER_00]: Pull it here on, and it's like, because he's not going to pull a here on.
[SPEAKER_00]: He can't just take the tithe that's coming in Ultramar and put it into Ultramar.
[SPEAKER_00]: The tithe has to go back to the Imperium, but Ultramar has to build up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he has to basically increase the tithe.
[SPEAKER_00]: More troops, more supplies, more everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Reducing the wealth and reducing the power of a lot of these planetary governors, something that they're not going to like.
[SPEAKER_00]: pushing Ultramar further into Rebellion, which puts even more pressure on the Ted Sharks to do more stuff, and then tight us the party around and the fix deal with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But all of this is going on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman's aware of all this.
[SPEAKER_00]: All the stuff we've talked about up to this point, every single member of Gilliman and his crew around him were ready for.
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's another problem that's about the pop, and that's the necklamps.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the fact that he you write it the ship for like eight seconds and you're like I think we got this guys It's a super probable.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're trading water.
[SPEAKER_00]: We got everything go we're about to go forward and then there's neck rubs Yeah, so I want it we're gonna be setting up the next episode of next like maybe five or ten minutes So the onset the 500-world's campaign was going well and no surprise
[SPEAKER_00]: the leadership of a primarck and a bunch of the top captains of the, you know, Ultramarines were able to write it.
[SPEAKER_00]: World Conquest begins and standard protocol at this point is to use rogue traders.
[SPEAKER_00]: They bring in rogue traders as we brought up before.
[SPEAKER_00]: The rogue scanning doesn't really work like long range scanning doesn't work in the 41st millennia.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the rogue traders no reason whatsoever, but continue.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, for plot devices, that's the reason.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, this and the road traders out to all these systems, the basically figure, hey, what is there?
[SPEAKER_00]: Let us know and give us information back.
[SPEAKER_00]: The road traders go out and they go system by system, scanning the planets, giving details.
[SPEAKER_01]: I need to give one thing to people that are long term listeners because in the show notes, on purpose, John has kept every single road trader as Rouge trader, just to piss me off every day.
[SPEAKER_00]: every single time.
[SPEAKER_00]: So impresser read the notes because the thing is it can he will read it, Rouge every single time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a little crazy.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are the little things I get to do in my life to give myself the joys that I deserve in this world.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that this is, that doesn't, this harms, well, they harms you, but it doesn't harm me.
[SPEAKER_00]: It harms, our listeners don't get into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: The little thing about the bad happens to them, but just bread, who's had a stroke, has to ask himself, am I having another one?
[SPEAKER_00]: Why can't I read this word correctly?
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he meant to say rogue, but I keep hearing rouge.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, every time, every time, every time.
[SPEAKER_00]: but so one of the areas that a road trader gets to is the address system sitting on the eastern side of Ultramar.
[SPEAKER_00]: The road traders actually surprised what they found when they got there.
[SPEAKER_00]: They found a robust agri world that's still reeling from the tierendids, but hadn't been changed that much.
[SPEAKER_00]: High fleet had been blunted, but the plant life had been changed over.
[SPEAKER_00]: No tear in it's there but it's a pretty good planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a feral world, which has no immediate value, but it could be colonized later, but the big one is a frontier world.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a world that it's interesting that she was still giving tides back to the Imperium, but just they had lost contact with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the road trip is actually marked it as a pre-high world, meaning that this potential was so great.
[SPEAKER_00]: that it could be turned into one of the major resources for the Ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this role is called Nova Magnaur.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the first major side of conflict of the 500 worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the forces of Ultramar go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, tie this goes, man, this is awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in my first couple days and by new role, I got this new world.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be producing everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing that would suck is if, I don't know,
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, which is exactly what it's, and not only is it a tomb world, it's a tomb world with a shard the night bringer on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is, which for everyone, if you're looking to not have to fight a shard of a contend, this is the one you don't want to fight.
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, we're going to close out with a little common on some tombroads.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, not all tombroads are equal.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is an important point about Necrons, because they're not a monolith.
[SPEAKER_00]: Get it?
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything else.
[SPEAKER_00]: And all seriousness, not all tombroads carry the same value and importance.
[SPEAKER_00]: There are tears to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, first off, all tombroads belong to a dynasty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some dynasties are large, some dynasties are small.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the plan to the great awakening was for all the tombroads to awaken together.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this happened close session.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look for 60 million year nap.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they were close.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're pretty close.
[SPEAKER_01]: 10,000 years is nothing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the idea is once a tomb wrote what a wake in, it would be connecting with all of our tomb worlds, namely those the same duck dynasty and then head out of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some two worlds were of greater significance than others.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were all meant to be self-sufficient, so they could kill whatever the Zenos were present, because their logic had calculated the L-DAR, the cork would have fallen by now, which accurate, they missed humans.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was the big calculation they were wrong on, and also they missed how the L-DAR would fall.
[SPEAKER_00]: But some worlds had more artifacts on them than others.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nova Magna was one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, we have talked a little about sea tans because they're going to come up a lot next couple of episodes.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a conclusion of the war of heaven, the necrons hurled themselves at the sea tans.
[SPEAKER_00]: They wanted to kill the star god that had tricked them and enslaved them.
[SPEAKER_00]: In their fighting, they discovered that often it was impossible to kill a being a peer energy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some they destroyed, but others were just too powerful.
[SPEAKER_00]: The ones who were too powerful, they had to break them apart into sharks.
[SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea how this works or you would pretend to, but the necrons were able to blast apart these C-tans, making them into these little fragments, and then containing them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these C-tans shards are insanely powerful.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could actually power the massive tomb worlds.
[SPEAKER_01]: because they're reactors in some of the coolest vehicles in 40k.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's also one on Mars, just say, there's one on Mars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the way to vault that the mechanic can not open thankfully because the emperor got their first built it and sealed it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And
[SPEAKER_00]: new what this was, but there's hinted evidence that almost all the creations of mankind, the age of technology came from this because a void dragon actually is technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: In my mind, there's a button and it's like guardians to when he's rockets trying to sound great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not to push the one red button and he just keeps immediately pushing it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel that that was the add back with the effort and he's like, all right, you can't, you guys aren't interested with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And also, I know people ask, well, you guys to do a cast on the Dragon on Mars, guys to get 15-minute cast, whether it's some point, but there's just not that much on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just very well.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's hinted constantly in books, but no one's ever drawn it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to kind of just infer it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But...
[SPEAKER_00]: Since the awakening of the Necrons, another power of the C10 Shards has been utilized.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an offensive one.
[SPEAKER_00]: If the Shards are removed from their shackles, they basically manifest as a version of its form or self.
[SPEAKER_00]: No one near as powerful, and they're actually still controlled by the cryptics sort of at this point, which makes sense because a C10 is a god.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is not as powerful as a god.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the guys that ate stars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so while they're still, you know, shells of their former selves, they're pretty rough.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, each C-10 Shard has powers, but some of them are more than others, and one of the worst ones is the Nightbringer.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Nightbringer comes from one of the worst.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can go with maybe the deceiver because he did the whole thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was far as if Nightbringer or I think the burning ones also really rough.
[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't put him in the game yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a couple of the Nightbringers.
[SPEAKER_01]: So crazy though, just like it.
[SPEAKER_00]: during the war in heaven he aired I guess after it was actually it was during the war of heaven the war in the war has been turned on the contend in the middle of the fight against the elder yes so during the war in heaven the night bringers so all the sea tans are different they're not you know they're not a species or well there are species but sort of they're all independent
[SPEAKER_00]: The nightbringer is pure evil and destruction.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the Eldar's love mythology about the nightbringer.
[SPEAKER_00]: It had basically no intention in strategy and warfare.
[SPEAKER_00]: It just wanted death.
[SPEAKER_00]: The more it killed, the more it hungered for more killing.
[SPEAKER_01]: See, Darth Niles.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or slonesh, actually, I mean, it began to feed it, and so what happens is the night burner actually at one point during the war in heaven became so problematic that it actually started attacking the other Ketan to feed on them, which was kind of good for the necrons for a little bit there because he was actually killing other Ketans, but also made it kind of hard
[SPEAKER_00]: They did eventually break it apart and shatter them into pieces.
[SPEAKER_00]: But a shard of the nightbringer is pure death.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been encountered a few times.
[SPEAKER_00]: And every time they get encountered, it's super, super, super bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: They can pull entire army down by themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in the game, you don't want to fight the nightmare.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's, like, right now you don't, like, right now, go back seven months.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did you care if someone put a diaper on the table?
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's still an eye.
[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, right now it's your face.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right now it's horrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what's on Nova Magner.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now the reason this matters is, and we're going to get this, the bread of break here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And next week we're going to,
[SPEAKER_00]: how serious no a magnet or gets because this is going to escalate like the fight in anchor man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about Amantar who's going, hey man, you know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: It'd be awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: If I grabbed all of the shards,
[SPEAKER_01]: of the nightbreakers.
[SPEAKER_00]: What if we put the nightbreakers back to to God's status?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's not do that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to have necrons.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have tear nids.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have tightest.
[SPEAKER_00]: This whole thing is going to blow up because we've actually with, you know, I'm in tar.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're adding someone new to the necrons and actually adding a new plot.
[SPEAKER_00]: to the Necron forces, that's creating an internal challenge for the Necrons, which is going to be super cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: So next week we're going to dive basically into more of a linear here's the battle, here's how it's going in, and this could be interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: So by way, with that John Barsotti, Brad Jester, this guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys then.
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
