Episode 70 - Death Watch pt 1 - Who are the Death Watch and how does one become one

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we start our coverage of the Death Watch, the special forces of the Space Marines. We start with a quick overview of what the Death Watch are and then dive a bit into their two different founding stories (one was way better than the other). After that we talk about how a Space Marine joins the Death Watch, both the official and common practice as well as the Black Shield style. From there we focus a bit more on how the Death Watch function as a fighting force in the imperial forces, with their smaller and more specific goals and actions to achieve great success via tiny events.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty K. Lorcass with me, John Barsade and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: On the day's cast, we're going to deal with John building a new army.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking about death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's already built it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But then, yet, partially done.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's mostly, you can always add more.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's a, but that is, but that is the story of Forty Cash.
[SPEAKER_00]: Are you done?
[SPEAKER_01]: You're never done.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got, well, you might answer done because I own it every model.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, multiples.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't have enough loop.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not having enough flash gets.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you have enough tank past this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I've got the, I've got old tech.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got guys holding rockets.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got twenty guys holding rockets.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: He said I like old models better.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, before we begin, the Forty-K-Lorecast, the weekly podcast, we're using every Monday evening in the US, focus on the lower the Forty-K universe.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you'd be so kind as to like and comment in the cast, massively helps us out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Additionally, if you click on the show notes, you'll find a link to our website, the Forty-K-Lorecast.com where we have our merchandise, Patreon, Discord links, even information on Brad's coaching services.
[SPEAKER_00]: wearing the merch right now?
[SPEAKER_00]: Am I not?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you could see me, you could see, I just hurt myself with my own merchandise.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_00]: Brad is skilled.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Discord though.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was bringing it up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Discord is a completely free community that we have available for anyone looking to interact around the Forty K universe.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have channels dedicated to
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Feedback in the episodes, Lauren general.
[SPEAKER_01]: Literature, gameplay, memes, hobby, online gaming and lots more.
[SPEAKER_01]: Massive thanks to our mod community there for making it what it is at time of recording those fifty five hundred members in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening to this cast in the distant future and there is no discord, it's because they got big enough and I burned it to the ground and the only thing between the
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we ready for that too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the only thing between me burying this thing to the ground that it existing is this group of mods.
[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you guys for doing that because if your services weren't here, it would not exist.
[SPEAKER_01]: True story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also on our website, we have a link in some information, the Brad's coaching services.
[SPEAKER_01]: A third of years of playing in the game in ten years of coaching players.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad has become a very good resource for him and looking to play the game at tabletop.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad has worked with players of all experience levels from brand new, all the way through heavy tournament players.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to know more, you can go to our website or a discord.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do Brad a favor here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe sixty nine episodes of yelling out his email address.
[SPEAKER_00]: It has become such a problem with him with the spam bots that for everybody that has that I have not responded to, I'm this weekend after recording this.
[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be
[SPEAKER_00]: after who cares.
[SPEAKER_00]: But for people that have not been responded to, I tried to up my spam filters and everything else and effectively what happened is I got almost no one's email.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I still got though?
[SPEAKER_00]: I still got bots.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: All the real people got stopped.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And bots still got through.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is your fault in the website earlier.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the joke kind of is on its course.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the amount of spam hitting Brad just actually affected his ability to do his job.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to stop yelling it out.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not editing the prior cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, if you're looking for Brad's coaching services, go to our Discord or to our website, both links are in the show notes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was saying, or in the discord, and people will just yell at that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not hidden.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what are the death watch?
[SPEAKER_01]: So the death watch, much like custodes in the lore are light years better than their on the table top.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also don't, is this the most difference between tabletop and gistodes?
[SPEAKER_01]: Gistodes and gistodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gistodes, gistodes and gistodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gistodes, gistodes, and gistodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gistodes, gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, and gistodes, gistodes, and gistodes, and
[SPEAKER_01]: but did whale hop at Harlequins are in the lore are more of an NPC?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's more I'm saying, like, bring them on a table type, like wire.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like playing, if you unlock a boss after you beat it, and then he's terrible, then it's with Harley Quinn's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's,
[SPEAKER_01]: are style-wise to support me.
[SPEAKER_01]: They actually play well.
[SPEAKER_01]: In the eighth edition, they played really well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're good.
[SPEAKER_00]: The thing is, they're a really good army.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just not a lower, yeah, even the way they show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so let's explain this.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch, they're the special forces of the space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of part of the inquisession of autosinos.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have a different match with them because they come from all chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we'll get any kind of where they want more, be it?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, but I like to start a little bit with that, just because of the fact that that's a big deal of their identity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's all these people that are coming together.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're sending their best guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why it is, they are truly the special force of the space Marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to, you earn a right to be in the death watch and it is a serious right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone who plays the space Marine to, you know what I'm talking about.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a massive piece.
[SPEAKER_01]: So where the death watch,
[SPEAKER_01]: Their entire purpose in the galaxy is to deal with Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas the Ordo Malias have the great nights.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Ordo Heronicists have the cancers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, have the sisters.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Ordo Zenos have the death watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a big deal on this because they get very specific because they only want to fight these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, let's play on the table top.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which they never fight these exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's always funny when death watch are good.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're a space marine army is good.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then to all the space marine armies are good.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they just constantly play space.
[SPEAKER_00]: You play space marine and they have a zero stories of them doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but they do an eighth edition, a little bit of ninth.
[SPEAKER_01]: They did some pretty dirty things in space marine.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what's cool about them is that obviously the death watch spend their time fighting tyrannies, Eldar, Jukari, Necron, Orgs, Tau, and Votan, TBD if they're Xenos or not.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the part I find more interesting is they actually deal with their main job in the lore is the non-codexalience.
[SPEAKER_00]: hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why they show up so much different than we're going to talk about kill teams in a minute here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the things that Death Watch does in the lore is they it's just a group they send down a effectively a platoon of Marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: that are specifically kidded out for this.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't, they usually don't send, they have sent larger forces, but for the most part, and that's what they don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's because they're dealing with, and what's cool about that is that they're sending when breathes, they don't send like in our mod.
[SPEAKER_01]: They send a few dudes to deal with what is, we're getting this more later, a small threat that could become a bigger
[SPEAKER_00]: They send rangers.
[SPEAKER_00]: They send seals.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what they did.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're sending a small group of operators down to take care of a problem and get out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not trying to take over.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not trying to occupy.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just trying to resolve a problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: And some of the coolest stories are these non-coonics aliens, though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, because they have cool stories about them coming down and they take care of something.
[SPEAKER_00]: When I say take care of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was to say, when I say take care of them, usually means they're the new dark angels.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about the history of the death watch first.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, they have a really great history.
[SPEAKER_01]: So M. thirty two, the Imperium almost collapsed due to this great or block of the war, the beast.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the beast, I was just saying though, the war of the beast was a, this is a big deal though, because Xenos wise, we've had, from the horse air sea, they're aware, chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have to do something about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're rebuilding the empire.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Imperium, the empire.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it is the upper.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in that two thousand-ish year span, it's like fifteen hundred before we had that, you have the Imperium kind of sitting on its laurels about Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and let's talk about why it's because the great crusade only happened because of the fall of the elder and up until basically the whole age of technology, the whole and everything up up to the great crusade, the elder were in the galaxy and the elder had been there for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: They know how to handle all the xenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the elder were quickly
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everything was in check.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what you saw, they did have the UNR situation during the great crusade, but the orcs specifically because they were on the right side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not changing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Eastern, friend.
[SPEAKER_01]: On the left side of the galaxy would, it was hard that they had to go through what was the elder part of the galaxy to get to the human part of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they were always, which just didn't happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, remember, we talked about this in cast previously.
[SPEAKER_00]: The elder didn't have to pack up and do things.
[SPEAKER_00]: The web way meant, hey, there's a problem here.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a problem here.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they also could sense it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if an orcs, if they're all from moving anywhere, they could see them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even if even the orcs were to hop on a space hall, conjunct us out of the galaxy, the elder would see it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then to Brad's point, they'd go through a web way and just instantly in the height of the elder, a pirate power, they just went, and these were nothing to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because it took no time.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're precox.
[SPEAKER_01]: So with the elder gone, the orcs begin to kind of spread out into the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're also, they're testing it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're like the kid testing going, Hey, it's dad going to do anything about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then they keep, then they keep pushing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then this was made a lot worse by the effects of the emperor going into the golden throne because you have the end of the horse heresy.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got worlds are devastated, obviously a heresy, but now the emperor is going.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which means, which may have to touch on that though.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who's in charge now?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not even just who's in charge, but as much of, I'm wearing the sweatshirt, by the way, if you go to our merchandise, the bad dad ever sweatshirt.
[SPEAKER_00]: But as much as he didn't tell stuff, the emperor was the best, the most powerful psychic in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: He knew what was going on most of the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he could deal with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he sent a lot of things where he didn't tell anybody why they were going there.
[SPEAKER_01]: But he knew.
[SPEAKER_01]: But as we get into the war of the beast, one of the challenges they have is that the lords of terror were fully in charge at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: But have them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the issue with the lords of terror is that the lords of terror were never meant to actually be in charge.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were meant to serve as figureheads who did the bidding of the Emperor Melcador.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's all they ever had to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: And suddenly,
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they were in charge and they sucked at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because the only thing that they did, because they never had to worry before any poor decision by a Lord of terror, terror, Lord of terror, while Mount Kudor and the Emperor work was around, was really, it was covered.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because the Lord of Terror were supposed to be the five ten-year-old boys sitting around and then they did something and dad went,
[SPEAKER_01]: I think of it as like their massive trust fund kids who are one day maybe they'll they'll they'll they'll the business the one of these suddenly inherited the business and unlike Tommy boy it wasn't funny
[SPEAKER_01]: You just ruined the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what ends up happening with this is that when the first orconvasion, the first part of the orconvasion begins, almost all the lords respond with not my problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why is because the orconvasion was beneficial for the majority of the lords of the Heracles.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they suck.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about why though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they crushed the rivals.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the news crushing the rivals.
[SPEAKER_00]: And because they're the worst people ever, ever, ever, they just went,
[SPEAKER_01]: They've never existed.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is efficiently in the future.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still angry.
[SPEAKER_01]: God, you're mad about this like, you know, they suck.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the problem is that this organization gets really moving and the lords of terror are not willing to put any real effort into it because they want to watch their guys fail.
[SPEAKER_00]: They actually started attacking their
[SPEAKER_01]: the rivals, the rivals stick their weakened to gain less.
[SPEAKER_01]: The bigger problem, though, is the space marine fleets.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the space marine army was cut down by like, seventy percent.
[SPEAKER_01]: At least, at this point in M- thirty two, everyone's gone to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lehman and Corax are in the warp.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gilliman's already been stabbed.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Dorn was down to just a hand, is always left at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are no, there's no primarks in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this also that everything about this is building towards a huge problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: To make matters worse, because of the lords of terror, the space planes were actually a largely independent body.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is because the lords of terror were incredibly focused on improving their own standing and their own power.
[SPEAKER_01]: And all they really cared about was not crossing the space mode.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is they did a good job of this because
[SPEAKER_00]: Marines historically, and somewhat to this day right now, besides people like Bobby G, as long as you don't interrupt their flu of ammunition, food, logistics, they're good.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't pay attention at this stage, we're completely focused on chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were all in a, again, every single space Marine Legion has lost their primar because of chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only reason that that primer is long is you're not messing with their ability to beat the shit out of chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't care.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it also, to be fair, first one of the day, the Marines also, while geniuses, have a hard time occasionally with understanding petty men's drives and desires because why?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they're entire doctrine of everything that they stand for, but this doesn't even make sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: where this gets ugly is because it's exactly Brad's point, they're not suspicious of the lords of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what happens is the lords of terror kind of send all the space marines to the other side of the galaxy away from their spheres of influence, because they want to yield them, which means as this orconvasion is progressing, the space marines aren't even aware of it, because no one's saying the messages, like, oh, hey, by the way, this is happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: So moving forward, the beast's law finally gets to a point where it's so massive that it can no longer be ignored and it gets close enough to terror, that basically right up to the segmentum solar, that now you have to do something about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And two things happen.
[SPEAKER_01]: First, as we covered before, the head of the assassins, signalists, or assassins cast, gets involved and gets all the lords of terror to fall in line by killing one of them and then threatening a bunch of the others.
[SPEAKER_01]: with his assistant.
[SPEAKER_01]: Showed up to a meeting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a real thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually it's pretty funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a good cast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to our cast on the on this sass as we talk about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: This gets the commitment of the Imperial Navy and the militarm.
[SPEAKER_01]: It also there then gets the notice of the space marine chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: Primarily the imperial fists, but there weren't the only ones.
[SPEAKER_01]: Space wolves were there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Black, Templar, Ultramarines, Blood Angels.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone joins the cult.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it becomes an every, but it again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes, it's the silence.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it becomes an all-hands-on-deck because it becomes so serious.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the orcs aren't just winning their smashing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're also rooting logistics.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what's during this war of the beast, there was an imperial fist who is the current, is chapter math or core land.
[SPEAKER_01]: Core land was the Lord commander of all imperial forces.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's
[SPEAKER_01]: why he went there first.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's that head, I was also the head of the imperial fists.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he and the fists take the brunt.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's known, he's supposed to be a brilliant strategist, but this initial move is terrible, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: What?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just get between Orquan.
[SPEAKER_00]: He had no other play.
[SPEAKER_00]: He starts to come up with some plans, but his original plan was just
[SPEAKER_00]: Let him use the rocky, he'll get tired of punching me in the face, because they get wrecked.
[SPEAKER_01]: They get absolutely wrecked.
[SPEAKER_01]: And to the point where the legion is potentially going to fall, like that level of wrecked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Coreland at this point becomes a better strategist.
[SPEAKER_01]: And realizes that they cannot defeat
[SPEAKER_01]: the war that the beast was head on.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I will defend him this one.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the first time they've sent him like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: When they fought the works on Ulnar, it was a very powerful, it was a war boss on Ulnar.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the beast is a whole different volume.
[SPEAKER_01]: The beast is the largest war up until the second time the gas shows up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they've never seen anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Ted, did I guess?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a third time.
[SPEAKER_01]: The third time is the head is the head.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Ted, on.
[SPEAKER_01]: On the most to a corolland realizes that they need to win, they need to win small skirmishes all over the place to lead into a race.
[SPEAKER_00]: because the bigger the battle, the more works are drawn, the bigger the wall gets.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you fight small skirmishes, it actually not only kills some of the works, but it decreases the wall because it deflates them because they've lost and they, they wasn't a big battle and they, nothing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he focuses on these, like these tiny little asset wins that maybe divert the work hoarding certain directions or impede some movements.
[SPEAKER_01]: The problem he has though is that this, there's no force within the, the imperial that works this.
[SPEAKER_01]: The imperial war machine has always been dominance.
[SPEAKER_01]: It has been throw giant numbers, giant warrants and just wrecked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've never done that because
[SPEAKER_00]: RMO is you have bodies.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the way we have more bodies, they're better armored, they're better equipped all this stuff in the problem with the orcs.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've read the imperial problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know they're better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they,
[SPEAKER_01]: What he comes up with ends up becoming the death watch where he realizes that he needs that make a new fighting force of small space marine groups who can go and win tiny baths with specific weaponry though.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the biggest thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not only going to be different tactics, but they're going to be equipped to
[SPEAKER_01]: only specifically these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now one thing I'm going to tell you two stories here back to back on the founding of the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're both in codexes and they're but not in the same codex.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this does get a little bit loopy.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to tell you a story I like more and then the other one.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to tell the one thing before we continue the this is a big deal because codex compliances a big deal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Space Marines fight a certain way and then adapt from here.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is them saying, we're scrapping that.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to make you unbelievably focused to only deal with this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this story becomes interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only way for core land and make a new space marine, my chapter effectively is with the blessing of the lords of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: who do not want to do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason they don't want to do it is because space Marines were already operating independently of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this would technically increase the size of a military force that they have no control over.
[SPEAKER_01]: These people care about nothing but control.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, luckily the war of the beast is high of an imminent concern, and I pretty sure the head of the assassins got involved here, so they approve it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the first kill team, they would say they had to approve it because they screwed around so long that the war was outside.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they could see the, but I also, from the ability, the head of the assassins were also saying, it's a sign this, because I got someone behind you who's going to have an issue if you don't sign it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the next guy up will sign it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also he'll be wearing your skin.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's great is, so this gets approved and I love the original founding.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got this situation where all these space marine shepherds have been fighting against the beast and they've lost seventy-five plus percent of their soldiers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are not battlefield radius because they operate these big groups, but these like twenty to twenty-five percent who were alive went nothing more than to revet than to get vengeance for their fallen brothers.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Corlan, just float this idea of a, hey, would anyone be willing to join a Hodge Group of Marines to go fight the Zenos?
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, quite a few volunteers show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some grim anger coming out of here.
[SPEAKER_01]: But don't forget, these are also the people who survived the fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, these are, so they have into, and it's better than I've talked the discuss before.
[SPEAKER_01]: Space marines are light years intelligence.
[SPEAKER_01]: So us every battle of space marine fights is knowledge they never forget.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what ends up happening is a cool side effect.
[SPEAKER_01]: These are some of the best work fighters in the galaxy form small groups to go fight works.
[SPEAKER_00]: Does now they figured out what works, what doesn't work and they've got it burned into their brains because that's how they roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: after the war of the beast, this then becomes like Canada's wherever it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: This become, they become an official force, but this force ends up being moved under the inquisition, undo to some protests in the lords of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's, that's, we get, so they end up becoming, but it actually just makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: You put them under under the autosinos because their goal was to fight Xenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just was a weird little thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: The funny thing about this to me though is that that's one of the two stories.
[SPEAKER_01]: The other one, so in twenty ten, we've got the first death watch codex.
[SPEAKER_01]: In twenty fifteen, you get on black library novels that tell the story we just covered.
[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now I'll tell you the twenty ten version of it, which is a labor, which is labor.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they actually, they just showed up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, a bunch of the ideas, this one is a bunch of inquisitor lords got together to petition the space marine chapters to give them a fighting force to standing in Susino threat.
[SPEAKER_01]: And under this one, all of the heads of the Ordozinos went to all of the heads of the space marines and told them that they needed
[SPEAKER_01]: basically they said give us your best space marine so we can go fight with your best space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Chepmes are agreed.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is it's not as cool as multiple chapters.
[SPEAKER_00]: You wanting vengeance for their followers and come together with the best of the best of the veterans exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just going to skip over the rest of it because I really don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just, I don't like that story.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's here to find it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's the older story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Effectively, the only thing that really comes out of these two stories I do think is important is I am still unclear as to the relationship with between autosinos and the inquisition.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still unclear between the relationship between deathwatch and the autosinos.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I say that because
[SPEAKER_01]: In the Codex is in the books, they work together, but it's very evident that the inquisition cannot tell the death watch what to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can, they just don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's like, I'm not going through.
[SPEAKER_00]: On paper.
[SPEAKER_00]: On paper.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do have the ability.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just the death watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just with a fair point.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're saying to a nine foot man holding a frag cannon wearing power armor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go do what I thought you to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to tell the same thing would happen to you that happened to the biker in secret level.
[SPEAKER_00]: He will put his shoulder down and you will explode.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go that into kind of now that we've covered Death Watch origin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about the structure of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I really, I love the Death Watch, so I really do.
[SPEAKER_00]: The way they make new people are get new people is so different.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is, they're unique.
[SPEAKER_01]: So key, key piece.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every space marine chapter holds its roots in its gene seed.
[SPEAKER_01]: As we discussed before, it's a stupid waste of a program because you could easily just implant them with the emperor's gene seed, but we'll skip that.
[SPEAKER_00]: or you could have always made them primaries?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the primaries has extra things, but anyway, the point being is that each legion still hit poison.
[SPEAKER_01]: No limit to poisoning, Brett.
[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently not like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently not like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it just happens.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do gas masks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the genes seed determines your chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever chapter you're from, they put a gene seed in, and you've got a natural attachment to your primar.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch don't have a primar.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they have no gene seed.
[SPEAKER_01]: So as a result, the death watch becoming a malgamation of chapters, which I love them so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not only did you pronounce that right, but you also spelled it right in our notes, and I don't understand how that happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: I spell check, if it could spell emalgamation on one shot.
[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of times you put the wildest stuff up here?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I also work in Dentos when Melgan's magna spell is the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's like it's like it's like it's a magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna magna mag
[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of things on a death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Join the death watch is not a permanent assignment.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a die, but if you don't die, you will eventually leave the death watch and return back.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, space marine do.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a huge thing for people who return.
[SPEAKER_01]: Going to the death watch is an amazing honor.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to that in a second.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when you come back from the death watch,
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say, you weren't stationed on like you, a super happy, you weren't guarding Hawaii.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you come back from death watch, you've killed more Zenos than most of your chapter brothers will ever even see.
[SPEAKER_00]: You also get sent to some serious hot.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't call for the death watch to clean up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like, hey, we could, could you guys help us out over here a little bit?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, go, we're gonna drop you to the middle of a neckron tomb.
[SPEAKER_01]: So then they actually did, to fight your rate of the center of it, which they did, to then kill, you know, and it's, they get some whack assignments.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those are stories are awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, they send them into, we don't know what this alien race does kill them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, so absolutely no intel.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now you figure it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're good.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're good.
[SPEAKER_00]: You kill Zeno.
[SPEAKER_01]: Second eyes are her novel, or third eyes are her novel.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is the one where they do that?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the second, the third, where you either fighting, alien race, that no one has ever seen before in the death watch they're going, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a yellow, a man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Next problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: So another key part of the death watch though is that they are not centralized.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a huge deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is actually one of the coolest things to me about them.
[SPEAKER_01]: the galaxy's massive and like we said, they're not just fighting the codext, you know, aliens, but also aliens every week.
[SPEAKER_00]: It goes down the size of that though.
[SPEAKER_00]: They never tell you exactly how big the death watch is, but you start to figure out, wait a minute.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Galaxie?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: GWMF.
[SPEAKER_01]: There technically should be more death watch than there are spacemories.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they are everywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: They get drawn from all the chapters.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they also operate independent of the codex of starties.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they can have whatever the hell they want.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the way the death watchers set up is they're on these watch fortresses, which will cover more than the next cast, and actually watch in the turn for them to watch stations all around the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is done because they have to be a little deploy real fast.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have a centralized base, but overall these small spots all around the galaxy are so that if a Z-nope's threat is detected, they can be there basically in an instant.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is very different.
[SPEAKER_01]: It would be talked about the last cast with the space walls.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have just the base on venerous.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think this a couple of them might have more than one base.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously the ultramate's heavy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think you meant to say the fang the fang fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the ultramate's have an entire system.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's still its one system.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's something's going on the other side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have to warp travel a whole way there.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch have someone local.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got, they've got, they've got local.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's so many death watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: There should be, there's just their everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in each of these local areas have a watch command and I like the watch commander because he fits like a strange role within the death watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love these guys though because they have good rules in the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't watch much of the great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but the I love the fact of what they are though because they're
[SPEAKER_00]: the guy that has to get everybody going now all the time.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it is woo.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see, talk about tabletop rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the rules suck compared to what they should.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is the, like, to become a watchmaster means that you've been in the death watch for
[SPEAKER_00]: decades.
[SPEAKER_01]: You basically should be a watch master against a custodian combat.
[SPEAKER_01]: The custod still wins, but he has to sweat a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where as a custod versus space marine is a, oh yeah, that guy was there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Past tense.
[SPEAKER_00]: Past.
[SPEAKER_01]: Past tense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Unless the table top said a opponent is holding a last rifle.
[SPEAKER_00]: He read the litany.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can't be stopped.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, can't be stopped.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or your vehicle's blow up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: God, I'm so mad about that stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, no, I'm like a total story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's play some games.
[SPEAKER_00]: But are you blowing up my stuff?
[SPEAKER_00]: My knee blowing up your stuff?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Brad and I play this weekend and I took him.
[SPEAKER_01]: I took out a chunk of his army with an exploiting roguel dorn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but you kept blowing up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you act like one thing blew up?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the appearance and business and build stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize that all of your reactors were sent to explode.
[SPEAKER_01]: I blew up two Lehman, what, one Lehman Ross, one Rogled Dorn, one Sentinel, one Basilisk, one Basilisk.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's all.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I probably did about the seventy mortal lose to you on explosions.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're upset about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you should have planned better.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
[SPEAKER_01]: I should have punched you with just the right amount of force and careful.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also watch out for Overwatch.
[SPEAKER_01]: It can sting.
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But with Melto's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so the next the greatest thing about that the Watchmaster is because he he folds into all the pieces of Death Watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you join the death watch, you reset your rank.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could be a captain and join the death watch, doesn't matter your journey of quilting.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you have to refite your way all the way up.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is done not because of some weird like your new here, so you have to start from the bottom.
[SPEAKER_01]: It really is a looking.
[SPEAKER_01]: that we fight differently than you fought before.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to learn your way up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so it's not just ranking back up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's they want to find what your specifically could have absolute best at because we're going to specialize.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because this you're already sending the best of the best here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We want to know if we take the best of the best and we figure out their specialty.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's where we're putting them in and they have
[SPEAKER_00]: Kill teams.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: In ten minutes, the kill is a myth, but what the idea is that every member of the death watch is as you move further and further up to your debt, your kill teams, your veterans, your watchmaster, each level up, they get astronomically better.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they have to be because of what we just were discussing earlier.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys operate independently.
[SPEAKER_01]: They move very quickly.
[SPEAKER_01]: When it's go time, they are absolute go time.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have a lot of support behind them.
[SPEAKER_01]: The way it's going to work is the local inquisition is basically scouring the galaxy for problems.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to find a problem.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to decide quickly what needs to be done.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this a local planetary defense for a situation?
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little bit of guardsmen.
[SPEAKER_01]: or am I really up, you know, a river without a paddle in which case we're calling in the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you wanted to, I said better read these, I believe it's a second Eisenhower novel.
[SPEAKER_01]: What he's dealing with, I feel an alien race there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, maybe the first one action.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Are they touching these both?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the death watcher pretzent there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: People ask for recommendations.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been noticing a lot in discred lately.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're never going to go wrong with the Eisenhower novels.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think I think it's the best one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like going to a lot, but I think Eisenhower's the best.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I've listened to an audio book wise.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've listened to Eisenhower in a bunch.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only downside to the Eisenhower audio book is that you listen to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's the writer's name?
[SPEAKER_01]: Puddle the Eisenhower.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Abbott uses the same guy for all of his audio books.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the next one in, you're like, oh, but that was Eisenhower's voice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, let's go now talk about joining the death watch because again, cool is shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start with a codex where you join and then we'll get into the space marine to where that you join.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't really cover this as much in the codexes, but they've kind of added it later.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start with your rich witches.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch are not a secret organization, whereas like for the great nights, only certain members are aware of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows about the every state screen, even the members of the Imperium, the death watch are well known, which makes sense because as he knows aren't really a secret, auto malias is it's holding a secret, auto xenos is like,
[SPEAKER_00]: I do have to assume that there's like some sort of like Stallone and Arnold movies that are death watch movies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, why is it was that?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they're everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Within the space marine's eyes, we were discussing the death watch are viewed as the elite.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are a special force.
[SPEAKER_01]: So
[SPEAKER_01]: everyone kind of wants to be in the death watch, joining the death.
[SPEAKER_01]: So effectively every single space marine, whether they say it or haven't said it, are volunteering to being part of a death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: So huge honor.
[SPEAKER_01]: However, you can't volunteer for the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be volunteered into it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is because Space Marines by nature are stoked.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Space Wolves, we give them a bit of a grief about glory and action, but it's still done with class.
[SPEAKER_01]: No Space Marine would ever demand.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be in the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lucius, but Lucius would.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lucius, but aside from Lucius, he did fall to chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's fair.
[SPEAKER_01]: He still likes killing Lucius.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're a such entish.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I do want to talk with a little bit in the sense of like this whole idea of honor and stoicism could space holes.
[SPEAKER_01]: We did kind of make them out to be a little bit like kind of
[SPEAKER_01]: borderline, chaosy with some of those.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just accepted move on.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they, it's, I want to clever.
[SPEAKER_01]: They, they're not, the space wolves are not so prideful that they would, that they would kind of be part of Emperor's children.
[SPEAKER_01]: The space wolves take pride in the honorable way that they do the things.
[SPEAKER_01]: A space wolf, you know, does he want the final kill in the biggest boss?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what he do anything nefarious to get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can also not try to ruin the victory period.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what happens is with the death watch is everyone wants to be in the death watch, but they don't, but they're not, they're not going to overly, ever demand to be in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the question is how do you get someone into the death watch?
[SPEAKER_01]: You join the death watch by being recommended to it, but it's a process and it's a really cool process of recommendation.
[SPEAKER_01]: It starts with either your lieutenant or your captain, seeing a Marine who just excels in combat against Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, fighting Zenos is step one.
[SPEAKER_01]: They then take that recommendation and they actually go to the chapter master and say, I believe, space marine Ted.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wish they'd name them.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny because Ted then has to go through a physical.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, hey man, I'm already a marine.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the physicals done by the apothecary.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's actually kind of cool because I didn't realize this thought you're reading about death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: You do get variances in physical ability within space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are some are bigger, some are stronger, some are faster.
[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the biggest things is they want the guys that heal the fastest.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of the biggest things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They basically do an NFL combine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry for those of you who are not in the US.
[SPEAKER_01]: For these guys to figure out, all right, yes, you're going to kill Xenos, but are you also the peak of physicality?
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's not the cool one.
[SPEAKER_01]: The cool one to me is once your Captain Lieutenant has signed off and the apothecary has signed off, the next one that sends you to is your chaplain.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the chaplain's doing a few really important things.
[SPEAKER_01]: First off, weighing the strength of your character and your soul, because you're going to be faced with overwhelming odds constantly against genuine horrors of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: In the thing is, you're also fighting against something that maybe no one has ever seen.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not even like you can fall back on your teachings, which is a big thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because a lot of these horrors are just, yes, is it something unbelievable that my mind is going to melt?
[SPEAKER_00]: But you've been trying to find.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because in death watch, yes, you have to really get following orders, but you can't be on a time of time.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be able to say, all right, we're dropping you off and point a bare grill style.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're dropping off at point a, you have to get to point b. What's between those two?
[SPEAKER_01]: Not good things.
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of horror.
[SPEAKER_01]: How do I get there?
[SPEAKER_01]: Just get there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also figure out how to take care of the thing that's stopping you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: The other one, though, which is why I really like that the chaplain has to be there is the chaplain's also testing the metal of your ability to keep a secret.
[SPEAKER_00]: which is so crazy because every space frame chapter has stuff they don't want.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but there's levels to that.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's the dark angels blood angels and it's even the space when a secret is bad as those two secret, you know, keep a secret and then there's the imperial fist keep a secret, which is what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like sometimes we eat second breakfast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's not really not that big of a deal, but they all have to be able to keep absolute secrets.
[SPEAKER_01]: The irony and we'll cover this later is that the death watch is the same thing to them when they leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's an important piece.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to go into the death watch with the ton of secrets and come out of there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because you always tell them there's a real chance of the dark angels show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Dark Angels would absolutely want to go to a war with a death watch if they were like you're doing what so much.
[SPEAKER_01]: What weapons are you using?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not important.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: They work so well another incredible.
[SPEAKER_01]: That being said though, if the chaplain does give the final check mark, then the chaplain master makes the following termination.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, they usually do obviously.
[SPEAKER_01]: What I like is that the chaplain master makes this termination, the marine may not know that they were the death watch for like a year.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they have to go find them, pull them off a assignment, and then send them over.
[SPEAKER_01]: That though is half of the story, what you might miss about.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say for the army I'm building, that's about two thirds of the story.
[SPEAKER_01]: The remaining third are the black shields.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who I like so much more than the regular ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: I say, for whatever reason, I just decided to forget those hands existed for a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they are cool, shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: The black shields are even more badass to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the black shields and, again, space marine two covers is pretty well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are people who join the death watch not out of honor or pride, but out of redemption?
[SPEAKER_01]: So these are people who, for whatever reason, have,
[SPEAKER_01]: gained the eye of suspicion of the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: And unlike penitent engines or other such options, these people are able to then, they're allowed to join the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: The most common scenario of this actually are successor chapters that still fall into chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: It happens the common story.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when that happens, not all of them fall.
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll have, you know, a small handful who will stand out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're, if your chapter falls, doesn't matter.
[SPEAKER_01]: You were still tainted, you're tainted.
[SPEAKER_01]: So these are the most common ones to join because these are, are spaceming too often times.
[SPEAKER_01]: killed their chapter brothers because they fall into chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're standing and everything about them says this is a loyal servant of the emperor.
[SPEAKER_01]: But what are we going to do about it?
[SPEAKER_01]: So what they do is they join his black shields.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this, by the way, for those of those of you who played Space Marine II, this is the backstory for Titus.
[SPEAKER_01]: He fought against Chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: He was deemed to have too much contact with the warp in that fight and no one trusts them, so he joined him in black shield.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which also was so trash for Titus, because that dude has had nothing to go right for him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ever at least always been fighting against it and they were like Yeah, we don't trust you fighting against it a little bit too much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're like I've had nothing but shit happened to me and I've been wrecking it from day one So these ones are called black shields and the way you can tell if someone
[SPEAKER_01]: this painted their army is you'll have on the one shoulder you'll have the the death watch kind of silver you know the other shoulder they'll have their normal chapter color if there's no chapter color than other one they either are painting quickly in the idea with it or it's a black shield it's either way which also seventy five percent of death watch armies are only black shields apparently I know it's I mean we're I'm just I'm done there from scratch and I have a lower podcast so I'm I'm
[SPEAKER_01]: much more hand.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we will definitely give you some shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm much more handcuffed on my the ability to build our knees just being honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: So once you join the death watch, what happens?
[SPEAKER_01]: As we said before, you lose all rank or title because you're not organized by that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You, you know, you may have been a space wolf.
[SPEAKER_01]: You may have been an ultra marine doesn't matter.
[SPEAKER_01]: You are now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's also important because they don't have companies.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_00]: The death watch is not organized into companies.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like scout company, first companies, terminators, you know, so on and so forth.
[SPEAKER_00]: Death watch has, yeah, it's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you're, you're more often than not, you're going to be sent to your random fortress somewhere in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some guys go to the main headquarters, but still, random fortress in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just get going.
[SPEAKER_01]: So upon arriving the base, the marine embarks on what is basically neophyte trading all over again, because they are a new recruit.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're, yes, they know how to fight, but they know how to fight Xenos as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they first, and they are just, I mean,
[SPEAKER_01]: They go on a horrifying course of xenotechnology and not the Imperial Primer one where all the xenos are weak and pathetic, but like the real one about this is how you can do here's all the same.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also have some of those weapons there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It does help, it does help.
[SPEAKER_01]: They show you what they're going to be, what they look like, how they function.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they've got some of the xenos there, and they're dead.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm assuming there's a very fun tax adjournment to work somewhere within the deathlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like just stuffing a neck rod.
[SPEAKER_00]: it's a big deal though because you know exactly what that weapon does.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because that is a marine problem because of heresy, you know, you can't have them.
[SPEAKER_00]: These guys have the weapon there so you can go, this is how you get around this.
[SPEAKER_00]: This will do this as opposed to going, oh, Timmy just got hit in the face by a web spinner.
[SPEAKER_00]: We should probably know what that does before I
[SPEAKER_00]: to hit the face.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and that's why I love about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: By the time they are coming out of their training, they can identify as Zenos, and in this, not just by the Zenos, but even the weapon that the Zenos are using.
[SPEAKER_01]: And because, again, these are space things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're incredible super soldiers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can also fully recall all the tricks and tactics that work against them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, hitting a towel with a blunt object.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you're doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I will say quick call out to eighth edition because maybe the best version of death watch it ever existed.
[SPEAKER_01]: suck as you know, player.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I say that as someone who played Zenos and did not play Death Watch in the eighth edition and even all admit, look, this sucked, but it was cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Turning off your abilities, wounding, re-reliable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Death Watch had a village in eighth edition to make it so that the Necrons couldn't re-animate.
[SPEAKER_01]: Green tide wouldn't work.
[SPEAKER_01]: The works would just flee basically in front of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, tear dance would just they would just kill high tyrants because you're your monstrous.
[SPEAKER_00]: These things they would normally get wounded on the game on a D six on a six got wounded on a two or two with high damage.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it was awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: They would turn they also
[SPEAKER_01]: How did they jack up out there?
[SPEAKER_01]: How did they jack up out there?
[SPEAKER_01]: I was saying they did these goofy ways.
[SPEAKER_01]: They could just shut everything down.
[SPEAKER_01]: They could blow up psychers.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They could auto kill psychers effectively.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was really cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eight edition really mastered what the death watch were.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then people really complained.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was some tournaments that it was basically just to be able to help add these rules were.
[SPEAKER_01]: if you played and I've never played tear at this point, if I was a tearated player and I pulled a death watch match, unless my opponent was the dumbest worst player who's ever existed, I basically auto lost again.
[SPEAKER_00]: The problem was, and I think this is not the problem, you know, I'm going to give my quick two cents.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that shit though, because they also had zero abilities that worked against not Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, they thought a chaos army, and this is when chaos was bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chaos would just go, oh, so you just can't do anything to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, none of your weapons were against me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, not really.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, some of you go, I guess I'll move up the board and win.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're like, if you were, you sure you don't want to be Zenos?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can't, you sure you gotta Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the other part of it's actually probably more interesting from a lower standpoint is the way they wage war is totally different.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so before the space marine specialize in large scale combat, layering off fences to other points.
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, when we got doctrines for space marine, you start your devastating doctrines.
[SPEAKER_01]: pound the enemy from a distance.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then moving your cat to go doctrine where you're using more small arms to fight them and get closer and then you finally finish them off with your assault doctrine and you move this way.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch don't fight like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: They use kittles.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and these little kill teams engage all over the place.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the difference is each kill team is a hodgepodge of all of those pieces.
[SPEAKER_01]: Heavy weapons,
[SPEAKER_01]: What is smaller?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but the kill teams themselves are very specialized for what they're trying to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I know, although the weaponry they carry is that the kill team the kill team itself is designed to be I can drop this kill teams somewhere and whatever's between it and where it has to be it has at least one to two dudes who can handle that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, but they usually they're
[SPEAKER_00]: In that thing, though, they're still, what are we going to face here?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's strategic, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a complete hodgepodge of the impact because there's going to be a big difference between in a dominant team and a forwardest team where they're going.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, it's like the current version you can play, then thanks to the index, it's been off like a month.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can have Melta and aggressors and heavy intercessors.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, yeah, I'm handling big stuff, but it's that piece of work.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're jumping, we're not giving enough to say what we're saying is you can put together guys that have anti tank weapons with guys that have anti armory and anti, but nothing, but you wouldn't, you know, putting together a melee guy and a last cat right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about kill things, because actually this is where we're going.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, as I said, from the war that beast, the kill teams, was where they, as I said before, the war that beast was the origin of the kill teams, and it was quintessential to how they were going to fight their battles.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these original groups where this came from was actually an accident.
[SPEAKER_01]: When Corland was first forming the first kill teams, as we said, these are made of groups who just been decimated.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it was a three guys left of one guy left of a squad, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm shoving him with this other squad over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you're just trying to put together the most effective of what's left.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then you started coming up with the basis for kill team.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was an necessity of what do we have?
[SPEAKER_00]: What goes together?
[SPEAKER_01]: What is actually what I love about this is it was done again, obviously, as we found out about the towncast, I'm a massive fan of XCOM, but it's also the indeed the same thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love parties.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like I love the old
[SPEAKER_01]: T. S. R. T. S. S. R. The old gold box, D. N. D. So box games are awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: The best if you guys don't know what I'm talking about Google it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're under the age of twenty you're going to I was just about to say it's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Three or five years ago, it was written for, I mean, these were floppy disk games.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll admit the graphics aren't the best.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's not graphics.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a two-day graphic, but they loved it because you would build a party.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the idea is that anyone who plays lives on the way, you get your magic user, you get your cleric, you get your warrior, maybe you get an archer, maybe do another war, however it's set up.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what these kill teams originally were.
[SPEAKER_01]: You got a guy who's got more of a heavy weapon,
[SPEAKER_01]: Then you've got a guy who's got maybe a lighter weapon, someone who's stealthy, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a gods ghost, actually, falls category two.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why those books are good.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the idea here is that the kill teams were able with this to be very effective in saying the small areas where they wouldn't draw a lot of attention, but they would achieve a lot of stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love kill teams.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to let John go off for a little bit on the kill teams here, but I love the idea of kill teams, these specialized teams, the, okay, I let John go as soon as I never stop talking.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love the idea of these kill teams being specific, focused rules that came from just the necessity of what's left and what we can do with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where I fanboy in this so hard, because these spacemanes function in squads.
[SPEAKER_01]: But usually, the spacemane squads, they're all kind of the same.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every squad is, okay, this is these are hell blasters.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone, everyone's holding a plasma gun.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, death watch right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't need ten plasma guns.
[SPEAKER_01]: They would play the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: You end up over killing with it.
[SPEAKER_01]: More often that you actually have too many of one gun than you actually need.
[SPEAKER_01]: With death watch, they went, no, this is how many we're gonna need and also we're all the best of the best.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we know the guy holding the plasma gun is the best plasma gun guy we have.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it will not blow up in his face in theory.
[SPEAKER_00]: In theory, let's talk about one of my favorite things about this, which is,
[SPEAKER_00]: They're the only period in the game units that combine armor types.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's well.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's a big thing that was talked about more.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the cool thing about them is it does make sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: You will actually have gravis armor, which is Primera's Terminator armor with standard Primera's armor with some other armors.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now we should call out that the laws of physics got a little bit messed up at one point because I could have a squad that had a biker in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It drove through a wall and was able to move at twice the speed of everyone else in the thing, but everyone just ran faster because he was there.
[SPEAKER_00]: as long as they were close enough to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was a, they've had some interesting rules or like, hey, this, this squad can suddenly drop out of the sky because there's one dude with a jump pack in it and everybody else doesn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, no, what else has a jump pack?
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess they were holding on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's holding his feet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly as he flies.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's a good jump pack, man.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because we are being dropped from low orbit and one of the five of us has a jet.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm a aggressor.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yeah, I'm falling quite quickly.
[SPEAKER_01]: I weigh more than the guy with the jet pack.
[SPEAKER_01]: So some of these things mistakes were made.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mistakes were made.
[SPEAKER_01]: This has been cleaned up in more than modern era by just than a lot of me on template.
[SPEAKER_00]: But these guys are cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: You need to think about it though.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether you like it or not outside of the that bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't really cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're like the expendables, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what I'm saying.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what makes them so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really table talk because it's at peace.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why do I have an aggressor with double with double flange gauntlets sitting here out me out?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because
[SPEAKER_01]: I need the meat guy to go through the wall and burn all the genes to their cults.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm also with three other guys that have anti-tank weapons that blow up the thing, then the guys with the flavors.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great example of how they work in the lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: The guys with the melted guns will open with them blow open the piece of armor, whatever it is, the Falcon.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then as the fire dragons are pouring out of it, the aggressors are right there to flame it to death.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is all done within one squad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you can't do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not the sequence of operation, the table top, but that's not important.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going lower.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in the lore, they're freaking awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: In the stories they have of some of these kill teams in action,
[SPEAKER_01]: It's everything I've ever wanted to do in D&D campaigns.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why this gets why I love them so much.
[SPEAKER_01]: That being said, with all the pieces, we talked a lot about the warriors.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are other people who join the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: You do have armors, apothecaries, chaplains.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea what a, how you can go and death watch, chaplains.
[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, that one's, just given how you become a death watch, it's like, okay, the space marine makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: The apothecary, probably really good at healing Zeno weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The armor.
[SPEAKER_01]: We know that that's just the best armor, because you're going to go with the fun toys.
[SPEAKER_01]: The chaplains?
[SPEAKER_00]: Woo, we also have talked about one of the Death Watch armors.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're extremely good.
[SPEAKER_00]: They might be, and I'm not gonna, there's a couple chapters that have some pretty damn good artificers.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Death Watch, well, they're definitely the best at working with shit that you're not supposed to work with, because the only people working with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But these guys have incorporated
[SPEAKER_00]: Zeno's technology into imperium weapons that only the death watch uses.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to point that out because I do think we'll cover that more than that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just say each team's showing up with stuff that other people don't have access to.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, as we discussed before, as we were discussing, the state that you joined the death watch, you joined this kill team and you in this massive kind of education program.
[SPEAKER_01]: The thing I love of the death watch is that you do it as part of your guilty.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you arrive, you get sent to your barracks, you go to your bunk, and everyone else in that room, that's your guilty.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you these guys work together in the entire country.
[SPEAKER_01]: This goes back to the story we were just telling.
[SPEAKER_01]: They not only are they masters of whatever weapon they have, they also master whatever one else in the squad does.
[SPEAKER_01]: They know everyone's speed, everyone's movement, everyone's everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: where you're going to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love in the lore.
[SPEAKER_00]: Death watch is pretty cool in the board, but in the lore, I love the fact that they are definitely synergizing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're way more.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll be style combat.
[SPEAKER_01]: One guy, the guy's shooting at his buddy comes in front of me, stops shooting for that little second that picks up some of his buddy clears.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're almost impossible to fight against because it's the idea of ten men feel like a hundred.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eight.
[SPEAKER_00]: with the big deal too, also a lot of, and this is why they're so good versus tear-nits for instance, because the hive mind
[SPEAKER_00]: learns how Marines fight, and the death watch shows up, and completely flips that.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of make no sense to the high tire, by the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, high tire, it's just like, well, the high tire is used, okay, there's Marines here.
[SPEAKER_01]: We let's let them be there, because when the full force arrives, we'll fight them, and now the full force is of the kids.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's lost.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and also, well, it's obviously, if they've got heavy weapons, then we'll just attack them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they've got hand-to-hand weapons, they don't have anything to deal with this armor, and they have everything to do with everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is actually a key part of the death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can't really, I'm building a death watch army.
[SPEAKER_01]: I won't play them very much with table talk, because on table talk, they don't play any words in the air as good as the war.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wish they could shoot the wish death watch had a, you can fire half and fire half again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's why the death watch, because that's, this is the biggest thing about death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: The death watch should be,
[SPEAKER_01]: They come in, the kill team goes, they actually make more sense in the game, kill team.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then they do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, a hundred percent on the team.
[SPEAKER_00]: The kids team has individual activations.
[SPEAKER_00]: Each and every guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where they, they excel in that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kill team Death Watch is amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: But also in the lore, they've got way more skills.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking about tabletop game, okay?
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy's got a plasma gun on the sky.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bolter of this guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a heavy bolter of this guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: On the lore, this guy is a master of stealth.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy can hack.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy has language decryption.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy is an explosive expert.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they come through, and this is how, in the lore, they just fight through almost anything, because it gets more story.
[SPEAKER_01]: They really do nail some of these stories.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as you guys can hear me fanboying a lot, it's because in my mind in the lore, I think they're the best example of what I believe a space range should be.
[SPEAKER_01]: I find a lot of the space range lore to be, you know, just large-scale combat, everyone's shooting everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which guard does better?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's watchers are better.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what stories like, no, these have super soldiers get to be super.
[SPEAKER_00]: They get to be super soldiers.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also get to use all of their, I do like a lot of the death watch stories because you get them being super smart.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's exactly it's they are it's a keep using this phrase over in point A point B the death watch are given a you have to be it's actually or video game ask you have to go achieve this object and it is over there we're gonna put you right here How do I get there figure it out we've never been there before this you know if it's a I mean a video gaming it's having to go from one point of the map to their point of that we don't have a map
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if the finder did death watch make way more sense than anybody else in the games to be honest.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, to be fair.
[SPEAKER_01]: That they are absolutely kick ass and I love them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And actually, you know, this is actually a good spot to break because of where we're going.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I really am thinking about that death watch play better.
[SPEAKER_00]: in video games than they do on the tabletop.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not even close.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where they belong.
[SPEAKER_01]: They belong in a video game setting.
[SPEAKER_01]: They belong in a D&D setting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's because a hundred percent because they do have to hack.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have me that that's watch for example would be sent in to go and disable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're who you would send a disabled enemy in place.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's one of the best.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they would do.
[SPEAKER_00]: They did it independent state to necrons on in the.
[SPEAKER_01]: That story.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to story next time.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is my favorite state.
[SPEAKER_01]: They went in and they ruined the place and took off.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it is a piece of like if you're sitting there, you got invasion and
[SPEAKER_01]: For whatever, whatever reason you've got orbital guns that are shooting up at you, the death watch of the ones you've sent down there to disable the orbital guns.
[SPEAKER_01]: And not because the truth is we could, yeah, I can try and blow it from space, but I can't.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the death watch wants to, we'll have to infiltrate the facility, fight their way to it and blow the gun up from the inside.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll as star wars as a name, your cool movie, it's the death watch you would do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone else is saving private money.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're totally the expendables.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I just hate that movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but that is a hundred percent worth it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why everything made the reference.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've just given you silence as a result of it because it's you know it's so apple.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just don't want it to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's totally a predator.
[SPEAKER_01]: because it's way better, minus the losing to the predator thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just what I say.
[SPEAKER_00]: The one predator, two of them are pretty good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got Jesse the body Ventura with his mini gun for no reason.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what you're going to do?
[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever the dude was with a knife, who was paying for his data.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what you're going to be with us?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's no racist.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be, you're going to be he's a crazy person in the way in the life.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that a predator, you should go with oceans of love and that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look how big no shit's eleven.
[SPEAKER_00]: They punch like one guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess they're maybe they got punched either way.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's this against why I fan was so hard on death watch because table top they've had some fun rules.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll cover some more of them in the next episode about God some of those armor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm going to shoot you with Hellfire rounds.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just pick them all up.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, we hope today was informative and fun, and that you'll join us next week for more on Death Watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Until then, this has been John Barsidey and Brad Jester.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: See you then.
