Speaker 1: All right, Hey, so Abby Anderson's podcast about to be on. I really enjoyed this one because her and I are I would say friends at this point. We've taken her on the road open for me, she's been in the studio, we've done shows together. So this was a very comfortable podcast, so much so that when she walked in, I was like, don't even talk to put the headphones on and let's start. So I do think you liked this thing. The funny thing about Abbe is she's very young, she's twenty two that she ends up saying, and when we do this thing, we talk about musical influences in a minute and all her her super old people. Um, So I think you'll like this episode. There are a lot of other ones that we've done recently too that I would ask you to check out your favorite recent one that we've done. Mike, you think I really like Trevor from Old Dominions. Interesting. I mean, everybody leaves and we're like, oh wow, that's a good like the Laura vltzwe and I think just from if you're looking for big artists, she's not one that you would probably click on because she's a songwriter, not known as an artist, but I really found that one great, and Joy Williams too. I found those to be great. If you look at for other ones, maybe you're new to the podcast, you know you'll see some names you don't recognize, but maybe you hop over and check some of them out, and you know you can always pause it and go to somebody else. Uh. There's another podcast called Get Real with Caroline Hobby, which she has on this week Uh. Lauren Aikins Thomas RT's wife. She she talks to wives of country stars and people love that one. I was look at some of her numbers last night, and that podcast is killing it. It's doing really well. And good for her because that podcast has always been good. We've done nothing for her except tell people about it. Like we brought her on our network of shows, which we have, you know, six seven shows, eight shows, whatever, But we didn't make our show better at all. It was just always that good. And now I'm just glad that people can actually hear it. There's another one with Caroline Bryan Luke, Bryan's wife, This is Fantastic, which is really the one that kind of put me on that show. I was with Caroline this weekend and um, because I was Luke for American but Caroline was here because it's finale so nice and and her and I talked for a bit and we follow each other on Instagram and she was like, you know, she's a big fan of the show at the radio show and she's like, I'm you know, you're killing it. And then she was like I love Amy, and I was like, joined the joined the crowd as like, as as cool as the game he is, she's even better in person. Amy has a podcast called four Things with Amy Brown, and the the fun thing about that is she really takes pride in that podcast, like she she puts a lot of work into and does a great job. And as much crap as they give Amy about just being scatter brained, I think that podcast is is scattered and there's four different things. It's her brain in a podcast, but it's pretty contained and it's really good. So you can check that out. The guys have the Sore Losers podcast if you like sports or if you want to recommend that to somebody. Um. Kelly Henderson has the velvets Edge podcast, which actually got a good little bump after the show. She went on and talked about it on Very Cavalry and got a good little bump there and people are checking it out. So it's a lifestyle podcast here in Nashville. Um any any what we're missing right now just from promoting those uh, the Raging Idiots My my two man comedy band. I hesitate to say band at this point because we're not going out with the full band because we're not doing like a big, in your face music show. We're doing a comedy music show which is just Eddie and myself, which I've called it's just the two of us, sorry, but we're all. I guess there's three of us because we're bringing Walker Burrows to play keys for us, who was on American Idol this season and was when we went to Hollywood Week. I saw him play and before I ever met in him, and I was like, Oh, this guy's gonna go really far. And so he's gonna come out and do some shows, all the shows, and and my client's gonna open um, so come out and uh. I don't know Denver in Chicago where we're starting, we're but we're newing both of those cities, and tickets are selling pretty well there. Some places are gone st Louis, Austin, UM Richmond, Virginia. All the places they're sold out, but the Denver, Chicago there's still some tickets left. Um So I would love for you to come out and see that show. Also, we're going to all Aware. Never been in Delaware in my life, which should be cool. Um So check out the list. San Antonio, come see us. We're doing I think fourteen or fifteen cities and it will be funny and we will be recording an album out on the road again. At some point we're gonna pick one of the cities and we feel like we have five or six new funny songs. But Raging Idiots dot Com. That being said, I shall let you get to this podcast. Thank you for listening to the Bobby Cast, and this is Abby Anderson. All right, you guys, all right episode with Abby Anderson. One of the things that I'm happiest about you being here is that some guests I don't know that well, and so I have to put on pants. I have on pants, but I have to put on pants and on shoes that makeup on for you know, and mm own house. And it's always were when I have to get even though it's my house. This is a real life studio. Oh it's fancy, y'all. You can't y'all can't see it. Hit it. You know, it's fancy. It's nice, like these microphones are crisp. My point is like I'm wearing slippers because you would feel comfortable. And I was like, oh, it's not just but it's just avvy. It's okay. Um. I had a you probably you probably understand this feeling, you know, when you're out of town all the time and you have like your one day it's like get your crap together day. I call it my coconut oil day of like no makeup, just like moisturize just here. Yeah, me on my coconut oil day. There's no like days off. That's boring. I would go crazy if I had nothing on my schedule today, I'd be boring. When I look at my calendar and it's just white, I start to feel like, oh, I'm not good enough really, because I'm like, what what is does somebody want me to do anything today? No? I get excited about that. I'm like, I'm gonna go ted okay the label and hang out and say hi to everybody. Yeah, do you I have a spray tan actually tonight, Oh I did that. I did a little self tanner. Actually, well, I'm naturally tan. I am naturally like Native American Latino A little bit. Wait, which one we'll both like Mexico really is native, like Mexicans really are Native Americans. So where my mother's Cherokee, she's got a Latina blunder, you know, and my dad's just white, like he's really white. Like what you can dance though, you know, I don't know that. I'm okay. I have a bit of a rhythm, but I don't know if I'm rhythm. I've been really good. I actually have been really good. I can answer that honestly. Why would you say you haven't? Would you answer dishonestly in the past? Oh? Well, you know when people ask you, like, how are you saying? Oh, I'm good? Oh I don't you know what I mean. I'm like, well, when it's just in passing, like, I don't want to even then, I like, I'd like to go terrible. I just have to stop and act like they here. Okay, I was gonna say, I'm like, I don't want to burn people with all the emotions going on in my soul, all the time, you know, you know, exhaust me. I don't really ask how people are doing because I feel like that's such a fake question. I think I'm I always go, hey, good to see you. I like that. I think that's generally what I say. I don't care how you feel. Goods not true. We don't have enough time to talk about how that's what I mean, and I don't want to answer to see you, So I'm like, hey, good to see you. Smart not how are you? It's funny do you say that. I'm gonna start saying that and never say nice to meet you too. People. Oh, I never do that anymore because like I did radio tour last year, and I've done that so many times where I really, I mean, I pride myself on remembering names. I feel like I'm pretty great at that. And there's been just a couple instances where I saw a person again, you know, a p D, and I said nice to nice to meet you. We're like, oh, I remember when I had that hour long deep conversation with you, and you don't remember the crap. I am like, I know it sucks years, yeah, but i'd you say good to see you all the time. You're safe because people you've never met it's still good to see them. People you haven't met don't get offended. Yeah, it's going to see Nike. Good to see you. Never say nice to meet you anymore so, but it is good to see you. Um when do we see each other? Last? Um, it's one. I was playing your classic's nineteen and Bobby I cried my eye stairwell after. I know you did not to, but what happened. I have this show every year where I picked five artists and I try to support them and put them on the radio. And we do one show and you guys come out and play like four or five songs or something, right, and you were sick, and I think you were playing next to last or last. We drew it all out randomly, so and I was like, you don't go do don't do any songs. You're like, no, I have to do. I'm such an attention hog that I'm like, I have to go on stage like after. And I appreciate you telling me. And so you go up and you weren't well, and I can respect that, but also I go, you shouldn't do that for the longevity or even the middle levity well, it was a good lesson for me. And then you you went up and you didn't feel great, and you then you cried afterwards. I almost I almost lost it on stage, but I started like buying the inshaw, I'm all that, and like shut up out of your phone, like just sing the stinking song, you know. And I got through three you you allowed us to play five, and by the third one I just told the audience. I was like, yeah, I know, I sound like crap. I know you hear it. So I'm just you know, you know, I know this song is new, but can you sing the last scores? I realized I asked them to sing a song they didn't know yet, but they did. What long with that? Good Lord? The next thing to single out right now? Good Luck? I learned. Okay, Anny Day, just jump ahead. Halleluia, I get a night this episode. Wrote this? When you wrote it, was this about the dude you're dating now or not? It is, yeah, the same guy told you about Yeah, I guess I know about him before, like people knew you actually yeah, because I wasn't really good Lord. I hadn't even written good Lord, I don't think yet, like we had just started dating kinda. We were on the road. Where we where were we is December? Mike, you were out there with us is December? Because we went to cheesecake factory? Did she got me cheesecake? I ate your cheesecake anymore? Because I already had to people I was let me ask me that she's and I was like, that is not how your's getting Oh, I get you stating next to me. Do you know where we were? Well? So we go in and I'm like, what's what's happening? Are you dating? You're like, yeah, I got this guy. And she's gonna say what city? He said? He was that's he's in Atlanta and you're dating my voice right now? Yeah, And I was like, I'm drying. I'm driving down a lot. But he makes me so happy. And I was like, wait, good for you, and he was like, yeah, he's normal. He's a normal job. He's not even like us, He's not crazy. That's pretty much. He is amazing. So I've been writing all the love songs and it's been so fun to just I don't have a safe place, you know what I mean? So this is how much older is this guy than you? He's seven, I'm twenty two. That's good. Yeah, I think that's a healthy age difference. And so you met him, how we met? Some of my big sister set ups up a mutual friends. It's called that your big sister helped out there. Big sister facilitated. She's the one. She didn't even know him though. She was just at dinner with mutual friends and they were like, hey, we have this friend who lives in Atlanta. Do you think your little sister would want to go on a date with him? And she sent me and I like, Bobby, I'm the first say like I was twenty one, I was just starting radio tour. I'm like, I want to flirt with everybody, like I'm gonna date around, get to know myself, you know, because I love dating. That's that's the point of it all. And my sister sent me a picture of him and I was like okay, oh, like all right, all right, and and um, I was pretty I was a little snobby though, because I was like, send me his resume, Like I asked for the resume, and I said, okay, you can give me. You can give him my number, but he's got to call me. Don't tell him to text me like that. Boy and he's called me, and he would have called me anyways. He's that kind of southern gentlemen. No, yeah, no the first time. No, no, hey, who's single? No? Let me tell you a story that just happened to me today. Are you ready for this? I guess it's different from a dude. Okay, go ahead, you're right the who's single? You're right, it's me I have single and you're not listen to this story? So I was I've been talking to this girl a little bit kind of I'll even i'll even um put the people's name in that. That kind of facilitated it. So Lauren Elenea is on her Answer story and she meets somebody and she's like, oh you two would be like why are you mout? Are you opening your mouth? Be okay? So anyway, oh my god, no, no no, wait no, no wait for it though, for what wait for what happened? So it's funny. You know who it is? So uh? I was like, yeah, said, what's she cool? She was like she's so nice, so so everything. So we're messaging back forth and she's like, hey we should uh. We were telling me like, hey, we should meet get together and meet sometimes when you see messaging on Instagram. Yes, on Instagram because different all this to me, it's all it all goes the same spot on my phone pretty much. So we're going back and forth on Instagram. It's like, hey, we should find a time to get together because I'm going back and forth to California a lot, and so it doesn't matter. I mean, I can meet from anyone. And so this has happened today, this fresh off the press news story. Mike hasn't even heard this. And so she goes, Hey, did you go on dates um back in the day with this other girl who was remember the flight attendant girl? Yeah? And I was like, because I just wish one a couple of days as a girl. It was a flight and I was like yeah, and she goes. She goes, I used to be my roommates, and apparently things weren't good with it, like ended real bad. Like I don't know, I'm not sure the story thing for you or I didn't care. I was like I wouldn't care. I was like, hey, I'm an adult. And we her and ILAND went out a couple of times. She was like, yeah, I can't I can't know really well, she still friends with the girl with the I think they're the opposite. I think they're just I just don't get along at all. Any Well, then what is it? I don't know. I don't know, but the girl, come on, that just happened today. You could have had Mr Bobby freaking bones. I don't know that's the case either, but it is. But that stinks. Well, Instagram is different, like we had mutual friends. Like I'm not like, you're famous, that's different. I'm extremely famous. You know what I mean? Did you get the security coming in? I'm like, I feel like it's it's that would make sense for you to message on Instagram. You're the guy make the first move. In this case, we all knew, like, you know, my sister knew his friends is like family kind of. And I was like, yeah, i's I have my number and what does he say it? What's what's his first thing to say? Well, he called me and I didn't sir, because I was recording, and I told him the specific time, like I told my sisters, like tell him to call me at nine, I'll be free. So he did, like on the spot on the dot, calls me at nine, I don't answer, and then I call him back and he's like hi. I'm like Hi, I'm happy, and he's like, I don't remember word for word, but I didn't know he talked for two hours. Yeah, I don't even talk on the phone. We only talk on the phone FaceTime. Well you FaceTime, yeah, But I mean that's what I don't like. The texting. I just we're not texting throughout the day. He's so busy and I'm so busy and texting and FaceTime, no, no talk. I don't want it. First of all, you put the phone up. Do you do any cancer? Really? No? Probably maybe might get it anyway from breathing. But I don't like it just too much. I like to look or just text and I like, but I enjoyed the texting because I'm good on text. Really, do you feel like so funny on text? Yeah? And I've been dating a bit, not a lot, but I've been dating a bit. And one of my friends says, how much stitch up with this girl? Um, my friend works for bumble. Oh that's convenient, she's I want to stitch up with this girl. I was like, okay, cool, And this girl has a pretty high profiled um posit spot will say that the girl. She wants to set me up not in Nashville, um, but a pretty high profile job person. And she's like, um, I'll introduce you on text, and so she does this thing where it's a text and it's her me and then the girl and she's like, Okay, you guys go at it. And you're just like in a pretty way room going to chemistry and not even in human but I'm pretty smooth on text. I got us out of that room. And then yeah, because I'm pretty wit, do you want I'm pretty virus. That's what I have is with because if it's ever like going into like a club or a bar, like no girl ever just looks at me and goes, I gotta have that guy, but give me some space. And I saw some credit. Bobby needs like a little room, give a little space. And the music low he low music so I can say funny things. And that's why you're saying, that's why you're singles. So that's so funny. Um, okay, good lord, you wrote that about your boyfriend. I did, And did you play it for him before you gave it to him? No? Gosh, So I oh, I just like put myself. I have no idea what he thinks about the song. You haven't played it for him, like in personally like he no, he heard it before it came out, like he started. I sent him demos all the time. No, no, but not about him though. You send him songs or just sent them songs about him too. But I was just I never asked for opinions. Really, I just send it to him. You know. I feel like I don't want to ever put him. That's like asking, hey, babes, this gross making me look fair? Like why would I ever put someone in that position? Funny analogy. I mean that being said, I was also the guy wants to a girl was writing songs about my last girlfriend put out a whole record and a bunch of songs about me, and she would be like that weird. No, it was. It was a compliment. But it's also because I think her next record there's gonna be bashing songs about me. Seems that weird. And we're not talked about it a lot, and we're still close and we're still friends. It's like, hey, do your art, like, can you understand that because you're in the business. I do, So that's my question, Like, is it you don't ask him because he has a job that's secondary. No. No, he has great musical taste, like he's got way the music he listens to is just you know, he loves a good lyric He's an attention to detail guy, and he's very analytical and I'm very much like, how can we have the most fun right now in the next twenty minutes, Like like you know, I have no idea what comes out of my mouth kind of person And and he's a total opposite of me, which is so beautiful. And I've learned so much from him because of that. Yeah, I'll send him a song and and it'll be like this is beautiful or oh my gosh, I really love this one. I really oh yeah, oh yeah, because I would do that sometimes too, not even about sure that'll uh that's I'm a favorite, That's what I would say. He does tell me that, and I appreciate that because we don't have the same taste and muse it all time. But do you ever go, I know it's how your favorite, but I still love it, So that's fine. Yeah, you've heard me talking about how much I love my sleep number bed. But not only me, because who cares about me, Amy, you love yours two? Right? Oh yeah, it's amazing. And with you, you and your husband can have different sleep number settings. Yeah, that's the best part. Because I'm a forty and he's a sixty. That's old. We um, here's here's make them wait. Have a funny story by this song. I hope you don't hear sure. Now, we were out on the road together because you were doing some shows opening up for me to doing stand up, and you were like, I wonder if this is a makeem white crowd? I said, what, I wonder if this is a make 'em wait crowd? Because some did I say that? Yeah, because some crowds really get into make them wait. Oh yeah, so true, like some to some places and theaters are super that people are really conservative more so than others. And you were like, I wonder if this is a make 'em wait crowd? And I was like, what does that even mean? And you were like, well, some people really get into make them weight. Well, what's true? I mean yeah, some people. I mean I've never I have not had one negative remark on this song. Um, which is cool, that's great. Um, you know, if there was any, that's okay too. But I do notice even my girlfriends who aren't I don't know, you labeled conservative or whatever or whatever, like, um, my girlfriend don't live the making wait lifestyle that whatever. They're too young for, you know, Like they love this song because to me, it's not about you know, it can be about whatever you wanted it is, but to me, it's a song about worth as a young woman, you know, when when you want to do it. But I believe you play the game you want to play it, and that you attract or, you set the standard for the guy you want to date and how he's going to treat you. You decide that. I didn't. I mean, I don't. I don't want to hear the lyrics. I don't think it's a song about sex. I didn't either, And of course, I mean, golly, Bobby, I got messages all the time from Mom's You don't say. I was saying, I'm gonna make my daughters listen to this. I'm like, that's great. But they took it that way about abstinence, and I think that's a beautiful thing too. But I also think more about worth to you, and absolutely, I mean that's the way my parents raised me. It was never about wait till you're married. I think they're way cool and they they're way cooler than i'll ever be. But you know, I just think it's about worth. You gonna talk about how you grew up. Oh, I love talking about my family. Yes, So you were born where Larre in Dallas, Well, technically Curville, Texas, which is San Antonio, and then moved to Dallas. I'm a Dallas girl, like eight ten, do you kind of remember San Antonio? Absolutely? So then you moved to Dallas and what's what's what's home like home? So there's it's loud. Oh my gosh, it's so loud. There's seven kids in my family, six girls, one boy. He's the youngest, and my parents like Dad is mr like if you can believe it, you can achieve it. And he doesn't talk like that either. I don't know what I'm talking to. But he was always the guy like waking us off at four am, you know, and we'd have to march downstairs, and he would have all these little positive chance he would make us say like I'm a ten, I'm you know, I know I'm a ten and whatever, you know. And and my mother was always the one cooking in the kitchen and you know, yelling about who knows what. But there's always a party at our house, and it's always very musical. And you have many brother and sisters. There's seven of us where I'm the second oldest, okay, and so what's the oldest doing. So my big sister, she's brilliant. She's a brilliant. She's working for Oh Crutch, She's gonna kill me, Ashland. I'm so sorry. I forget what company she works for, but she's like the VP or some of his marketing company. She's only twenty three. She's killing it. She's out in New York, um and she does like content for Instagram pages like the Dodo that's that fun animal page. He is eight. We still a kid kid. He's a kid kid. Yeah, my parents still it's like on the radio. No, my parents. My family's my sisters, my parents. I've always felt like they were proud of me. My sisters are very unimpressed with me. They do not let me drink my own kool aid. I'm very thankful for that. We all, we all keep each other in check. So when do you leave the house. I left home when I was seventeen, so it was my senior year. And yeah, came to Nashville and I was seventeen five years four. I mean I was like on the brink of I was eighteen. I just say seventeen because it sounds more impressive, like I turned eighteen a month later. Well, it sounds good for press, you know, like when Billboard's interviewing you moved to Nashville when I was seventeen, Like, what kind of high school kid were you? I was such a nerd. Oh my gosh, like middle school. You cannot pay me to go back to middle school. I started home schooling my sophomore year of high school because I was just I don't know. I had like two friends, and we were the kind of friends who would hang out with our mom on the weekend, so like we're friends at school. But I never had friends on the weekends, and I would cry a way too much about that. But um, you know, would you do music? Would your musical kid? What impresses me about you, which unless you actually see you do it, is that you're quite good on piano. Thank you. I appreciate you. Know. I get to see everybody play. I have a cool job where I get to, you know, be around like a lot of great artists. But I remember first time I watched you just sit down and key it's some keys by yourself, and you're like, all right, and you I mean that's teaches open your eyes even get open your eyes wide and even wider when you start playing and singing, like it's really special to watch you play the key Remember you brought your keyboard into the show one time, the radio show and we just played. One of my favorite things to do with anyone if they can do it, is sit and talk while they play, and you did that. So it really was a special segment to me because I love that with an artist, come in with keys and just play and talk and like, do a little bit of this song and then talk a little more and it's it's good. There's um my favorite moment ever. I did that with Ben Folds once. I don't know if you know I'm familiar play some brick Um he's one of my favorite artist, but he came in he said it at Pig Piano and we talked about all the songs and he would do an interview and I'd be like, hey, so when you did you know Brick And he would play six am they after the spot and he would just go from song to song like all of it is. I need to listen to him. Oh, you'd love ben Folds, especially the real piano. We face stuff. But you came in and I still tell people there are only a couple of those performances that I look at and because Craig Campbell can do it too. He can come on a piano and just sit and go, yeah, you know is this And then they kind went like this bad and just played it. It was good. You and Jimmy only came in whenever you guys did Shallow. Yeah, yeah, here's the here's some of that. What does that? So? Whose idea was this? This is all Jimmy. He calls you and goes, hey, let's do this. Yeah. He called me up in December and he said, hey, I want to cover Shallow. I want you to be the girl singing it with me, and this is the video concept. This is when we're going to release it. I mean, the guy had everything planned. He's brilliant, he really is. His mind doesn't doesn't turn off. This is a good version. Thank you, I appreciate. And also you have to sing Lady Gaga's part. Yeah yeah, Jimmy goes. He goes, and we've known each other for years, so we're cut up all the time. But he was, um oh, I don't remember what he said, but he asked me to sing the song, and he's I think he could be amazing, like you know, real like country artists haven't covered this yet and like, Okay, I'm like Jimmy, that's great for you because you get to cover gradly freaking Cooper and I have to cover freaking Lady freaking Gaga. But okay, great idea. You know, we'll see. But yeah, I was very um, I was nervous recording that for sure, Well, you have to sing it better and I don't. I'm not saying or different, and hopefully I did it different enough because I get nervous covering any artists that I highly respect, um doing covers in general or scary. Who's your favorite artist? Oh gosh, don't ask me that, because I know there's so many and I'm not gonna let you back away from this total, yeah, total body of work. Like if you just had to pick one and they said, yeah, this one month, you're just one artists most you have one month, we're only giving you one artist. Let's do for this whole month. Tina Turner is your favorite artists? Really one of them? No, No, we're doing favorite artists. But you said Tina Turner. Yeah, we'll go with Tina Turner. That's the first one of the top man why her performance? Her performing? She was the first concert I ever went to I was eight years old, and I always remember thinking I want to perform like Tina Oh touch yo hey yeah, even doing the face right there. I can't help it. I just I love her Favoriteena turn her song. Um. I really love her cover of Let's Stay Together? Um, I love what What's love got to do with it? Does there? Staying? All her staying face songs? Who who playing with her? When you saw her? Who was playing with her? Like? Musician was playing? Like? Who was she playing with you? Remember? Was it the Texas tour with Lionel Richie? No, it was her. She was a headlining tour. It was like her last. It was like a farewell tour in Linel wasn't opening for her. I don't know, I can't remember her. Yeah nothing nothing, I'm only yeah exactly. This is still in college. Okay, you ever does she have a Twitter? Tata Turner? I don't know. You ever tried to tweet? Tweet Tina? Who else you got? Okay, Tina Turners? That one trade off. We'll go back and forth like this. If you're a Tina, what is it she tweet? Because I think she lives in sweet Yeah, she's chilling out. She lives in sweet I was with We finished Idle this last week and we went to a dinner afterward. I'm a name dropped like crazy real quick, but it was Luke, Brian, Katy Perry, myself, Lionel Richie Um Orlando Bloom Zerka Katy were engaged in a couple of producers and Lonatchie was telling stories about Tina Turner and loves her cry I just heard performed like I literally like my hands are sweating thinking about her and also girls like I just remember watching her growing up as a kid. Like every performance in the way, she didn't care if she got sweaty. She didn't care what she looked like, like she's a when she sings like you can't see the feeling in her face. She didn't give a crap about how she looked as it was a woman, She's just performing and feeling it. He was talking about singing a duets with people because someone that asked him by singing with people. Tina was one of them, and he went talked to a bunch of stories about it was quite fun. He talked about Ritha and Patty Bell. It was just crazy to watch someone talk about that kind of stuff. Um, But Tina Turner was that's funny you bring that up. Minus. My first is John Mayor. I know you said, you said that quite a car. If you're going Tina, first round draft pick, I'm gonna draft John Mayer. Alright, everybody does second round draft pick. God, I hate labeling. People labeling were drafting arms for real. Elvis, that was another one my mom introduced me. I did think he was alive until I was about seven, and then she told me he was dead. And that was worse than finding out saying, like when she told me Santa wasn't real, that was nothing because Elvis was dead. So why Elvis again? Performance the way he interpreted songs, even his phrasing. But how did you know Elvis as a kid? Did your parents played in the house. My mom played all the time, all the time, like all my all the people I listened to is because of my mother. Favorite Elvis song, Oh it's now or never. It's now sigm a romantic and it's like, come on me, it's like it's now never baby, come hold me, Oh good, my room will be to Have you ever seen this? I haven't. I don't cover him. I don't cover him and I'd be scared to cover Tina Turner two. Tina I would get because no nobody's Tina. Nobody ever will be good. You could probably sing this and no one would even know it wasn't your song. This is not one of the big Elvis on the biggest ones, So I like my favorite Elvis song is probably Teddy Bear. Oh gosh, I'm trying to think of this one right now. I don't want to be a Lion because lions are too tough. I don't want to be in it. You want to be, let me be? Do you know I don't want to be. I don't know a word for word, but I don't wonder if he picked that. No, no, no, that's it, he stress son. No, oh, I just unknown. You're right. No, no such number, no such number, no such return. Alright, second round draft. I'm probably gonna have to go. Do I have to do Garth? Oh? Yeah? You do love Guard? I do love Garth, And I'm gonna tell you what's harder about picking Guards so high now is that I kind of know him now, and it's weird to be like he's my favorite because he's a friend. I wouldn't say friend okay, but I would say more than acquaintances, even more than I would say almost buddies. But it's almost to the point where I don't like instagram messaging each other. Yeah, he probably won't because I dad one of his friends, and I don't. If I geek out too much and then I hang out with them and you're not cool, then I'm not. I'm not cool anyone, but I'll probably go garth, we're gonna do, We're gonna do five, Go ahead, five. I get to know you this way musically. First round pick was Tina Turner. Second round, I'm thinking of influences. Linda ron Stat number three. What planet are you from? Texas? Baby? All right, like Linda, I know well, but even she was before my time. But it's your parents, hug your mom. Your favorite song she put out? So she put out a Spanish album called and it's called Songs of My Father and they are all the songs that our father saying. Nor see she's Latina, but she, you know, was a country. I guess she was crossover. You call her crossover? What were you called? What is she country? No? She was more like rock. What's London? Ron Said's biggest streaming song Mike d I would sue bye you play it? But that was that was a royal Orbison song. Would I Love Him Too? Which is that might be my force? Yeah? Yeah? What else? Is that? A second? Let me guess, Let me guess, You're no good? What good? You're no good? You're no good? That video? No, that's why I would say she's kind of a pop pop rock artist, pop rock. Need you name someone? Country crap? I'm a country singer. No, that's all right, because I think she's dead. She influenced. No, No, you're wrong. By the way, Elvis isn't the country the call of fame? Did you? Oh? Yeah, A good point? Which one? What are we talking about on the show? Like Don't Be Cruel? Was the number one country, number one country song. I actually did not know that. There's only two people and he was genre list. He was just everything. Yeah, you know he was. He kind of did what Eminem did, meaning he took music that normally black artist did and because he was white and he did it, Yeah, I made it white people and white people were like, oh, you're like, oh, I guess we like that now. And so like people like Elvis stole everything the way boomed. Yeah you know, but um, yeah, okay, well that's three from me. Three the number three for you. I were going John Mayre and Garth Um probably been Folds and I need a listener more. And I saw we saw been Folds to the airport and I wouldn't go talk to him because I was like really yeah, And I was like, so you didn't have met him? Yes, yes, but he wouldn't remember me. And I'm such a big fan that here's the problem now he's years ago. The problem with people that you're such big fans of is that they can never live up to how cool you think they are. So like this has been faults. I've told yeah, good, that's so pure. I'm gonna listen. He's a very he's very piano pay. I feel I felt dumb not knowing who he is. Number four. I should have been thinking about this, okay, Ray Charles number four because he is also country, because it's my favorite album, Modern Sound. It's great and I'm my uh my mom again. I mean we always listen to country music in Texas, like that was, you know. But the reason I'm naming him is because he kept me in piano lessons. He is a reason because my mother said, like, I know you want to send country, but here's this guy, right Charles. Listen to this album and look what he did to a genre that's not technically his. Listen to his phrase and he made it his own record is crazy. I love that record, but rarely does someone sitting here and they actually know that record exists from Ray Charles, You're such a music nerd. I didn't know. I'm really not Bobby, like you know what I'm really not. I just know what I know, which is not a lot. But we all only know what we know. Yeah, you're all right fit Ray Charles song. Oh so he does a duet with Nora Jones called he Go Looking. You not know har later or do they do it? Yeah, it's later. It's like they do after he died and they put it in or no, it was he was still alive when it came out. I believe listeners. He's solid kill. I just want to do the stak face. It's so good. It makes you want to sway like he sways when ever he's singing. You're like, I can't dance, but he's gonna make me think I'm a good dancer. My Grandma played Ray Charles all the time. My grandma rises me for a long time, adopted for a while. She would play Ray Charles all. That's how I know modern Town's country music because she play that all the time, just all Ray Charles and like the Ray Charles stuff. And I mentioned at times too, I'll be like when they they say what artists was it for you? But she would play Andy Griffith, like gospel stuff. And people don't know Andy Griffiths was like a real life singer because he was in you know show he was in, right, the Griffith Show. Yeah. So but it's like Ray Charles, Andy Griffins. You know, he's saying, hey, will you pull up some Yeah? I don't, It doesn't matter, like playing the hits. I don't think you ever. I think he covered a bunch of gospel stuff more than anything. Well that's the that's well, that's the Andy Griffith theme song, like like real Christians. Oh Lord ohlle Is always listened to this and Ray Charles and Johnny Cash because Johnny Cash was in Arkansas and really I didn't know that and it was Arkansas Proud. The other guy is in the rock and roll and County Music Call of Fame in both Johnny Cash and right Now excuse me, Elvis. But she was so proud that Johnny Cash was from Arkansas, and so like, my goal has always been to be that. I'm just picturing little Bobby being raised by his grandma listening to the song I love it. We listen to all the time. Okay, so you are number four for you? Um? Maybe Weezer? Oh heck yeah, I just saw well, not Jessel. I just saw him a couple of years ago at Music Midtown in Atlanta, and I tell you why. And I hung out with him like this, like two nights ago. Oh my gosh, so for me. When I saw Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer Wheezer, and I was twelve, and they put to the blue record, the Blue album. Um, I was like, oh, and he didn't wear the glasses on the cover of the record, but he wore the glasses all the time, the dark um glasses. And I was such a nerd and I got beat up so much. And I was a nerdy white kid and I thought he's cool and he's so nerdy, that's why. And my vision was so bad and that's why I started warning between him and Buddy Holly, who I loved, and he really was that inspiration because there was somebody like me. There was someone like me, and I actually thought they were cool and so um they played American Idol on Sunday Night this week and they were in a trailer and I just act like I belonged, went over wing the trailer with him, and Um, Rivers was practicing Africa because they were gonna play Africa. You know, the Toto song. That's such a great song. It was one of my favorite songs ever. So he had the guitar and it wasn't plugged down electric guitar, and he was just in it and singing the high parts to Africa because it was about to go out. And I'm sitting in the trailer listening to Rivers do this and the other band guys. Everybody's hanging out and they think I'm supposed to be there, and they were so nice. You but in with the rimmed glasses. How cool? But probably I love that answer. So John Mayer been folled. Garth Brooks Weezer, go ahead and number five for you, And I want to pull out my playlist. I know I should too, but I should also know this by heart, you know what. Okay, as far as influences people who shaped my career, I would say, Dolly Pardon, Yeah, yeah, for sure you met Dolly. I have met Dolly in a meet and greet before um, you go to meat with Dolly Pardon. It was my dad, a friend of a friend, and she was playing in Texas and he just asked her could you sneak us? You know, meet and greets. The thing about Dolly, I thought, Man, he's going to come in and there's all a couple of people. This is happening. What was it like interviewing her? Well, again, she's so great on screen and she's so great everywhere you see her that there's no way she could possibly live up to the expectation you have to meet Dolly Parton because she's such a legend. Yeah, and all the expectations I had were surpassed. As soon as I met her, I was like, oh, I get it. Aside from all of her talent, the greatest just and I've interviewed her and I've spent time with her away from microphones, and she really is delightful all the time and funny and you know what, not even I wouldn't even say delightful all the time human And when she's not delightful, she just is is a real treat to be around her. The other there are a couple of people like that. Reba's like that too. I got to sit down with the rebuff for the Spotify Country Round. Yeah, isn't she the coolest? She's just light, like you, like I get. I got chills when she walked in the room. She's like, that's She's just light. They's just like a ball of is them walking in the funny? Yeah? Professional just She asked me to come and introduce her at the in d C at remember that I remember Kennedy Candy Honors and it was like her and Share and the people from Hamilton are getting this big award. And I was the first one out and they were like, hey, uh really want you to go and introduce her. And it was me and Kristin Chennawyth into Brooks and Dunne into Lady Annabella m at Kelly Clarkson. And first of all was like, how did I even get into this company? And secondly I remember going up and just like looking at Reba and now she was sitting up there and I was like, I love you from the stage. She's the best and she will pop. She snap your head off too, and she should at times because she, you know, reb was just Jesus. Professional's a businesswoman. Dahlias too, and and those are just two careers that I look up to as far as talk about expanding your brand beyond music in a brilliant way, Like the time when you always net worth it Mike look dollar Parton's network. I think it's like ninety million. More than that. I'm gonna say, you can't start it nine. I'm really bad estimations. I'm gonna say, Mike d I'm gonna say five hundred million. I'm gonna say, uh, five one million or whatever it is? Five million? You pick ninety million to begin with, and I have to walk myself up sometimes she's worth half a billion dollars? And what's Reba? Let me guess, Let me guess, my guests us, I'm going to guess. Well, I don't want to guess because I don't want to offender. Do you think you're gonna I'm gonna guess seventy five million? I'm gonna guess millions. Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of myself, and so that at number five is dollar parton. Yes, because exactly of what she said, she knows her purpose and she uses it for good. She does use it for good. Looky, I feel like I just learned a lot. I had no idea that all those influences were such big parts of you. What tape did you listen to most growing up? For CD? I guess what CD wasn't most to? What album? Remember the first album I ever bought with my own hard earned money? Oh? My never, I was Counting Crows by the way, but go ahead, Oh I forgot. I forgot that someone's gonna yell at me on an email or something saying you didn't you didn't finish number five Counting Crows waiting to give me a County Crows cross the live Wire. I'm not super familiar for I know their name well. For me, it was in college, even in high school. This across a uh, well, we'll do August and everything after. Mr Jones probably the biggest song Mr Jones and beautiful. Yeah, yeah, because I love that backward and forward. Hold on for a second, when were they big? Okay, so this is like that crunge they were like hot. They were like hot ac grunge. Like they weren't like Nirvana Pearl Jam. They were like emo emo, emo grunge. Yeah, when the chorus come up, I don't know. I bet you'll know a couple of the songs in a second. Well, nothing familiar yet, though, I'll tell you when the chorus comes up right here? Oh no Jones, Yeah, I know you've heard this song, right, Yes, definitely play the song from Cruel Intentions, because you can even play it from the very beginning. Because I think that you'll know this song for the piano part. When I do that, you should not what is it? Because I was perfectly on pit? What are could they have a long December? It's been a long December and there yeah, no, no, no, how about round here? I think i'll know it when they sing it, you know, when I sing it, this is around here and the nailed it? Which one is this? This is called round here here. I'm giving you a lesson on music now. I don't know where. No, I don't write it down here around here? Okay, I'm gonna play. I guess I have access to like how raw their voices were like they just like, um, well, you. Okay, you'll know from Shrek. You'll know Accidentally in Love. Yes, and you probably know Shrek. Yes, play that one? You know this one? No? No, no, no, no, yes, Accidentally in Love? No? Oh my goodness. Play color blind please from the beginning, and then we'll get color blind. Is this? Do you ever see cruel intentions back into the movie? No? Okay, so if you know a song now, I need to watch. Oh oh yes, I know this one. Not well, I am color blind. I am color not really my key, not really my key? He sings about too high for me. I am color blind. I ever heard this? You haven't heard it heard. I've heard that piano, but I probably know the chorse hopefully. Anyway, I'm gonna go and listen. You're gonna listen to one thing. I'd put you on some ben Folds, smartly ben folds, the piano, been folds, five piano stuff, just because you do love just that. And he does a thing now where he goes out the orchestras and plays the full orchestras. I never yeah, I'm sure I wish I was cool. Are you like? What are your tomboys? A kid? Yes? Oh my god, you played football? Yes, like, oh my gosh, I was so dramatic. It though, like the first time I was surprising, right, causing a scene everywhere I went. No, the first time my mom ever gett like I was raised with sisters and they're all so girly. And the first time my mom told me like, hey, it's time to wear a bra, you know, I cried like I caused a seen. I was like, I refused to wear that. I was a feminist before feminists were feminists. Okay, I started that whole thing, but now for all, I was just like, I don't want to add all guy friends. I had short hair and I just were like my mom would pick me out these cute outfits every day and I'd wear out of the house, and as soon as I got to school, I've changed into a T shirt and basketball shorts. And then somewhere along the way, I realized like, oh, it's kind of cool to have bibbs. It's kind of cool to like be girling, you know. I was like, I think I'd like to think I was really good. Yeah. I thought I was gonna go to college and play sports there. I was a springboard diver and gymnast, and I did play football and you're a gymnast too tall. Well, I was really sure. I hit like all of us, Anderson girls are pretty late bloomers. I hit my gross spurt when I was like nineteen, just out of the blue, just got really tall. It was like three months ago. Thank you, thank you. It's a compliment. Now. I did one of these Bobby casts with Tom Douglas. I love mr. And you wrote good Lord with him? Right, No, I wrote make him weight with him. That's what it was. He is man. I feel so lucky being in this town because I didn't go to college, but I have learned more here than in a year just from riding with people like Tom, then in college could have probably done for me. No offense to college people. I think they're probably gonna be okay. I'm okay, Like I went to college. I'm not offended. Okay, you're okay. Uh do you ever? Do you good at theaters anymore? Eaters? I haven't seen a good movie. I no, there's plenty of good movies out there, but I'm not. I did, however, just go see A Dog's Journey because your girl has a song on the soundtrack. So I did see that movie. I know you have a song, but isn't a dog. It is a dog's purpose, a dog's journey, so it's a second one. I actually bought tickets that and then didn't go. I meant to buy tickets to Avengers, and I clicked the wrong button about tickets to a Dog's Journey. I haven't seen Avengers either. Was that good? Yeah? As good as long it was good. Did you like A Dog's Journey? I loved it. It's definitely a family movie, and it's definitely about the dog. I would hope. I mean, it's not like, don't focus on the acting or anything, you know, but it's it's it is great. I cried, what's the name of the song in that It's called Fearless. I'm following crashing down sounds fun. I forgot to go to l A, go to the premier, acted like I belonged there. Did you go with the carpet your boyfriend? No? No, no, this was like literally a month ago, not even two weeks ago. He's got a real job, he's in Atlanta, he's you know, he works, he's got to do the day we did that show, drive to Atlanta and back the same day. Yes, that's probably why you were sick. I think that's why. Well, it was allergies. Allergies, like apparently pollen count in Atlanta was so bad. You've been to the allergist at all. No, I'm just on clared In right now. I've never been to allergy That was always a rich person thing, an allergist like I went to as a kid. I was, you know, I went recently. Now that I'm rich, I should go. Yeah, you can't do it. I went. It's really not did a big thing on the back. They did like seventy of them. And is it all just paull and stuff? Is it food? It's everything they would put. They put like taco meat in their honey. No, not all that, but they put they do prick you and they put I'm gonna believe everything you say. It's like they put like pollen and ragweed and it's just like crazy and you can't move and your part everything you're allergic to it blows up, so your whole body just feels disgusting and they're like, don't scratch it, and you're like, and then they did like eight in my arm, eight different ones, and I'm allergic to like eleven things so I wake up every morning and I take a pill and I do a nose spray and have a sublingual then take another pill just so I don't you have what that? What you had? It's so true, like it My throat literally swelled up within an hour, and I was like, what is going on? They gave me an EpiPen really because because I take so much allergy medicine that it could react badly together. And they're like, here's an EpiPen just in case you're ever going to show. You're gonna we're trying to help you, but in case we don't. Golly, that's awesome though. No, I've just with all traveling everything, it's just easier to take a you know, ready to have from Claire and then just to keep it, keep it clear. I'm a little you know, snotty right now. So sorry, sound like you are? You got next week with Rob Thomas. Next week Rob to is the start. I leave on Monday. I leave town tomorrow for a weekend of shows and then we leave for two months. On Monday. We're just gonna be gone, which is crazy because it's a different way of touring because you're gone for two months. Usually how it works and country music is someday. Yeah, we all go out on the weekends and I go out on the weekends and I do my shows and we come back and that's but you're doing like rock and roll touring. I'm I'm really excited about it because I mean, it's gonna be different for me. It's a it's it's a feeling of all right, little girl, you better you know, grow up now. Like it's I think I'm excited to learn a lot. It's gonna push me. How many artists are on the bill, just me and him? Oh my god, I got my work cut out from me. But it's a forty five minutes that every night, it's about four five minutes or five minutes. How many players four to five shows every week? How many players you with you? It's just a yeah, just four of us on stage. Do you get a real drum kit? So you have? You have a real band? Full band? You have a real band? Oh yeah, I mean everyone I've gotten open for his Let me have a real band. We're bringing our sound guy out. It'll be we're gonna be trekking in a van for yeah, in a van. Oh yeah, we're schmucking it. We're bawling on a budget. You're no, I legally I can't. I probably won't wait, but why can't you some twenty two? It's a rental and I think it's five. That's my my When I date, I only date people that can rent a car. That's my cut off. That's what I asked him. Can you in a car? Yes? But some girls are just really mature for the grades you might be missing out on. No, I'm not. I'm not dating anybody under twenty in saying nobody so young and full alie, I am very young, alf and you're out until three? Yeah fo yeah. So are you caught up on Matchbox twenty and Rob Thomas song? I am? Oh? Yeah, like, and I'll be honest like I was born in ninety seven and not to age anybody, especially Mr Rob, because I'm so excited about this store. But I knew Rob's music before a new Matchbox twenty because my dad listened to him all times. So yeah, like he was already huge when I found him. And so because I listened to Rob's music, I think I started listening when I was like fifteen because my dad listened to him. And then I was like, Oh, he wasn't a band. This music is awesome. That's funny, you are a kid. My favorite what I want to pull up the list matchbox and I know they're hit. Oh. My favorite Rob Thomas song is ever the same. Just such a great balance, such a great band and lonely no more. That's such a small it's such a danger, Like it's such a danger. It's just undeniable. Yeah, that's a good one. You can do it all in the ways. The passion of his voice kills me. I don't want me, I don't want to pay for Yes, that's a jam too, that's awesome. Did you listen did you listen to Masox? Yeah? Like their first record I was a kid sold like astronomical number right. I think it was called yourself or someone like you. Right at the of the first record, Mike, I've pulled up over here and this song came out here. When Push came out, I played some of this now you turn it up. I have control over here. It was like we were like, oh my god, was it that different when it came out and the guy in the front was like a big dude and like airline goggles and I got floppy hats. This was a big jam three Am, yes, three Am, and it was just one after the other. It's country like if he was like if this came out today. Yeah, this was. It's like us even like a long day again. It's the old go the Second Ship. I used to play this on my guitar because that had like four words, like one of the first songs I learned. Yeah. Yeah, but this whole album was good. And do you know this one? It's kind of it was a single, but I don't think it was a big I know their hits. It's not gonna lie and then it jumps in right here all the time. This was like when I was a kid in this song came out. It's crazy. Is Rob still sounds like that? Yeah, it's such a great vocalist. This was a real world Betty pretty. Yeah. Man, I'm gonna learn from a true rocker. He has a whole seven hits. That's what's crazy. He probably has to not play them all because he wants to play his stuff. Was new record too, was great. It says one last day, no no no. It's called Chip to Smile Ducks the name of the Stinking tour. Yeah, but his song. Um is it one last day? Yeah, it's so good. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I was getting old, was lost d how the way he pronounced his words that way he enunciates the light. No, we've just met. So Jimmy Allen's really good friends with them. How are they friends? Do? Because Jimmy loves Matchbox twenty and so he texted me like, Jimmy knew that I got this tour before I knew it because they were at dinner, him and Robert at dinner one night while Jimmy was in Vegas or something or l A. And apparently Mr Rob was asking about me, like, what do you know about Abby Anderson chick? I'm and so Jimmy was like talking me up to him. And then I got the call like two days later from a manager saying, hey, Rob Thomas tour this summer. What you think I'm like, oh right, yeah. Apparently Jimmy and him talked about it and yeah look at you. Yeah, well look at you. You got the song out now, good lord, you're out doing your thing. Yeah, trying to. It's a grind, that's fun. Both are true. It's absolutely grind. It's not meant for everybody, but if it is meant for you, like there's a lot of joy in it, Oh my gosh. And that's what's been so fun is um. I don't know. I haven't had a day that it's felt like work yet, even the nights where it's three hours of sleep and you're catching a five am flight, it's still like, holy crap, I get I get to be exhausted, you know. I used to say that I haven't said in a bit, but I would say, I'm so lucky to be this tired. Am. That's exactly how I feel. There are days where it hurts, but I go, God, I'm so lucky to be so tired, because I'm so tired of doing something that I've tried my whole life to do well, to make a living doing it. That's the biggest lesson. And especially to days where I'm missing my man, I'm like Collie, I get to miss my man, you know. And he's gonna fly out to any shows, Yeah he is. We've we've planned. I think there's like yeah, one or two and then I'm I have a show in Atlanta. I'm back here in Nashville, so we'll see each other who who's um, who's one of the pants in the relationship? He's running the PA. We both do, Come on, we both do Instagram. Abby Anderson Music A B B Y Anderson Music, Abby Anderson Music. Look at you leaving for two months? Yeah? Trying to pack tonight. Um, that's really hard. I don't know how you pack for two months in one suitcase? Is that all you're taking one? A bed in the van? No? No, we're doing hotels. No, No, I would think so. I mean even while the driving, like you gotta you're just gonna land the seat. Yeah, just step straight. You're taking a driver or one of the band people. Yeah, we're like rocking this summer me. Yeah, you're like going full yeah some style you know. Yeah? Do you even know if some forty one is I was just agreeing with you, that's all right, Well listen, you know I enjoy you. Oh, I feel like you enjoying me. So thank you for I'm making me feel enjoyed. I'm a big fan and check out I have his music. And if you're you're out about and I would go see Rob Thomas even if I didn't, even if I Oh, I'm so excited to see even if you weren't on the show, i'd go to that show. But now that you're on, let me see, is he coming any more? Closes? Yeah, he's coming, uh Nashville. I know, but I'm so gone all the time. Theater in Austin. We'll just let me know. Playing that. I'm playing Moody theater too. Really we're the same. Rob Thomas and I basically don't trying to say so. I think I think I sold it out today. It is not. That is honestly insane. What is it just so your son? I mean, I don't mean that as a consul at all. It's a compliment. But you're selling out theaters. That's insane with me. That's amazing. Yes, yeah, I know, And that's why I was standing there. I'm like, he's doing what I want to do with talent. He's talking, and I'm busting my butt up here, like trying to get these people all love me. You just have to go out there and talk a little jealous. I love that you think is that easy? Because that means I'm doing it right. No, I would never want to do stand up comedy. That's got to be so hard. I love it because I try to make my radio show sound like that before. It sounds like we're just having fun and it sounds so easy that people go, that sounds so easy because that means that you're doing a good job at it. So the fact that you're like, yeah, you're just talking it when for the little guy over here and on the little list of them all, I'm the smallest sort. But Anderson, episode one seventy nine, thank you for I'm much and every well we'll see you after you get back, appreciate it. Mm hmmmm.
