<v Speaker 2>installment of what we hope is an ongoing series. The
<v Speaker 2>first time we did this was about a year and
<v Speaker 2>a half where we met and did a fantasy draft
<v Speaker 2>on James Bond girls. Today we are back to do
<v Speaker 2>a fantasy draft on James Bond theme songs. And to
<v Speaker 2>help me with this mission, I've assembled a team of
<v Speaker 2>the world's best double agents, all of whom are currently
<v Speaker 2>doing undercover spy missions where they have infiltrated the podcasting world.
<v Speaker 2>But since that world is not enough, I've brought them
<v Speaker 2>back out of the field and we are going to
<v Speaker 2>discuss the best theme songs from the James Bond movies.
<v Speaker 2>I want to get right to the introductions, so we
<v Speaker 2>can dive right into this. First up, Amber Galore hashtag

<v Speaker 6>horror classics they came out at nightteen. I love James Bond,
<v Speaker 6>and I mean, this is just man a dream come
<v Speaker 6>true to come back after a long day of work
<v Speaker 6>and just be able to talk about the James Bond
<v Speaker 6>themes and all the shared love that we have for
<v Speaker 6>the franchise. It's gonna be a lot of fun.

<v Speaker 2>own podcast. I don't do this full time, but my
<v Speaker 2>son and I just had about a seven month run
<v Speaker 2>earlier this year where we in produced a show called
<v Speaker 2>Apples and Oranges where we step through the decade of
<v Speaker 2>the sixties and compare the albums of the Beatles and
<v Speaker 2>the Beach Boys against each other in a series of

<v Speaker 2>and we will do four rounds, so we'll end up

<v Speaker 8>Gosh. By the way, I found this interesting, they originally
<v Speaker 8>asked Depeche Mode for a song for GoldenEye.
<v Speaker 7>Really it would have been interesting.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, we definitely have been completely different.
<v Speaker 8>Most people don't know that you two wrote that song.
<v Speaker 8>I think that's awesome.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, it always hurts my heart a little bit because
<v Speaker 4>I would love to have a U two James Bond theme,
<v Speaker 4>but we kind of got one anyway. So and I
<v Speaker 4>guess they ended up using Tina Turner because Bono and
<v Speaker 4>the Edge did like a demo and it sucked. It's
<v Speaker 4>like terrible, So the producers were like, you know what,
<v Speaker 4>let's have Tina take a swipe at it.
<v Speaker 2>All right, very good? So next up we have Bill Bant.
<v Speaker 5>Okay, so I'm going with a song that basically started
<v Speaker 5>the formula for Bond. Our Gadgets, our cars are women.
<v Speaker 5>When you have a movie like that, you gotta have
<v Speaker 5>a kick ass song. So I'm going with Goldfinger from
<v Speaker 5>Shirley Bassy.
<v Speaker 14>Gold Fingers the name, and this was John Barry, who
<v Speaker 14>composed most of the music for the Bond series up
<v Speaker 14>until The Living Daylights.
<v Speaker 5>He wrote the song and a little help from Anthony
<v Speaker 5>Newley and Leslie Riscue and the theme was actually first
<v Speaker 5>sung by Newley as a demo. You can hear that
<v Speaker 5>one on the thirtieth anniversary Best of Bond release, so
<v Speaker 5>you can hear that one. But yeah, Vassie was a
<v Speaker 5>call from Kubby Brockley and Harry Saltzman and she knocked
<v Speaker 5>out the park and we're going to hear her name
<v Speaker 5>again later in this draft. So the one that that
<v Speaker 5>solidifies the Bond films and music is Goldfinger Shirley Bassie.
<v Speaker 7>Fun fact about Miss Bassie, she famously had to remove
<v Speaker 7>her brawl in order to hit and carry that final
<v Speaker 7>note when she was in the recording studio.
<v Speaker 8>That's awesome, a little a little constricted the express o
<v Speaker 8>Kady Okay, Hey, I've got a cool tidbit on Goldfinger.
<v Speaker 8>I found this fascinating. John Barry was good friends of
<v Speaker 8>Michael Kine Michael Caine from Jos of the Revenge right, Yes, yes, yes,
<v Speaker 8>And John Barry played Michael Caine Goldfinger and Michael Kaine said,
<v Speaker 8>what are you doing man? That's that's Moon River. It's
<v Speaker 8>the same song as Moon River, And so he came
<v Speaker 8>right behind it and added the big brassy horns to
<v Speaker 8>distinguish a Goldfinger from Moon River. And that's why you
<v Speaker 8>get those that huge brassy section there.
<v Speaker 2>Wow you now that you say that, it's very obvious.
<v Speaker 2>I never think that this was a song that for
<v Speaker 2>me set the stand or set the expectation for me
<v Speaker 2>of what James Bond things songs are supposed to sound like.
<v Speaker 2>All right, third in line, we have Pat, You're on
<v Speaker 2>the clock? What you got Bud?
<v Speaker 6>All right? Well, first of all, I'm just gonna say
<v Speaker 6>to everything Amber is said to introduce her tune, I'm
<v Speaker 6>gonna say the same thing. I don't do a lot
<v Speaker 6>of fantasy drafts and all that, and I know it's like,
<v Speaker 6>you know, you're not supposed to just draft the players
<v Speaker 6>from your favorite team and all this kind of thing,
<v Speaker 6>But I'm gonna throw all that out the window because
<v Speaker 6>I think like bad things would happen. Because not only
<v Speaker 6>is this movie my favorite Bond movie of all time,
<v Speaker 6>it's quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. And
<v Speaker 6>ad is Skyfall, this.
<v Speaker 13>Guy together, this guy.
<v Speaker 6>I love this movie. And I've got to be honest
<v Speaker 6>with you. Adele absolutely knocks it out of the park
<v Speaker 6>with this song. It's got little hints of the Bond
<v Speaker 6>themes in there as it plays. It Really for having
<v Speaker 6>a solo vocalist, it goes big, and that's what I
<v Speaker 6>love about a lot of the Bond themes is when
<v Speaker 6>it musically represents that whole idea of going to all
<v Speaker 6>these exotic locations around the world. And she not only
<v Speaker 6>sings with this real relaxed kind of swing style, but
<v Speaker 6>it's also it's pretty soulful, right, It's got a little
<v Speaker 6>funk up in there, it's relaxed, it's bluesy, it's melancholy,
<v Speaker 6>and it just sets the stage for what I think
<v Speaker 6>is an incredible movie. And I mean, she just has
<v Speaker 6>an amazing voice, what a talent.
<v Speaker 5>I went with the award winner, I mean an Academy
<v Speaker 5>Award for Best Original Song, Critics Choice for Best Song,
<v Speaker 5>Golden Global Ward for Best Original Song, and a Grammy,
<v Speaker 5>So you're knocked out the park with the awards on
<v Speaker 5>that one.
<v Speaker 4>Well, and for my money, that movie is so good.
<v Speaker 4>That's where the show stopped. Craig shouldn't have made it anymore.
<v Speaker 7>Might disagree with that, Amber, but I'll tell you one thing.
<v Speaker 7>You got to give thanks to the president of Music
<v Speaker 7>for Sonny Pictures, because that's who specifically chose Adele for
<v Speaker 7>this film, and she had said that Adele's voice has
<v Speaker 7>a soulful, haunting, evocative quality that brings the classic Shirley
<v Speaker 7>Bassy feel of old Bond films back.
<v Speaker 8>Rumor has it that when Daniel Craig heard this for
<v Speaker 8>the first time, he cried.

<v Speaker 2>my dad and now bonded over. This was the first
<v Speaker 2>one he took me to. He probably would have taken

<v Speaker 2>think he was just uncomfortable with the title. He probably couldn't,
<v Speaker 2>you know, get my mom to agree to let him
<v Speaker 2>take me to that one. So I had to wait
<v Speaker 2>for a view to Kill. But yeah, I don't hate
<v Speaker 2>this as much as most people do because it was
<v Speaker 2>my first one.
<v Speaker 8>You who kills like your sixth grade girlfriend? She's not
<v Speaker 8>all that pretty, but she's got a special place in
<v Speaker 8>her in your heart.
<v Speaker 6>Well, and I think too. It's like it's one of
<v Speaker 6>these things when you have a franchise that stretches that long,
<v Speaker 6>and it's different sensibilities and different you know, directions they
<v Speaker 6>go in. I tend to over use this quote, but
<v Speaker 6>it's kind of like more Bond, more better. If you
<v Speaker 6>really want to see the original to Sean Connery, nothing
<v Speaker 6>else will do. If you really want to see the latest,
<v Speaker 6>you know, the grittier kind of thay. Okay, well then
<v Speaker 6>did Daniel Craig. But there's a place for those Roger
<v Speaker 6>Moore films. You just can't you know, don't play a
<v Speaker 6>game of checkers expecting to get chests, you know, that
<v Speaker 6>kind of thing. And they're really good at what they do.
<v Speaker 6>And I mean so I hear what you guys are saying,
<v Speaker 6>and I think that's I mean, they're entertaining, and when
<v Speaker 6>it comes down to it, for me, you know, what
<v Speaker 6>more can you ask for a movie? So I definitely
<v Speaker 6>think they've got their place.
<v Speaker 7>I can't understand all the hate for a film where
<v Speaker 7>Tanya Roberts is running around the whole hour and.
<v Speaker 6>A half, I mean, right, plus r there it is.

<v Speaker 8>And Harry Saltzman's like, yeah, the song's awesome. Who are

<v Speaker 8>you see, this is Paul McCartney, and I.
<v Speaker 3>Think an actual Beatle, right.

<v Speaker 2>Paul McCartney song. And there's nothing else in his solo
<v Speaker 2>career that comes close to this in my mind.
<v Speaker 3>Well, and I kind of like Bill's story seeing him
<v Speaker 3>do it live at the age of eighty. He still
<v Speaker 3>rocks it. It knocks your socks.
<v Speaker 2>That's awesome.
<v Speaker 7>Well, look, this one was way down on my list, Jason,
<v Speaker 7>and in an effort not to win any points with
<v Speaker 7>our moderator, I'm gonna give you up. My hot take
<v Speaker 7>is that the version Guns of Roses does on their
<v Speaker 7>usual Illusion album is superior to the Wings version. I'm
