I understand that I'm under a microscope, you know, new position, big market, the contract and everything like that. So I'm just trying to take it day by day and get better.

Speaker 6: What's the toughest part about making a transition Because I've asked different shortstops that when you sign, I've asked different shortstops that have like made that transition, dudes that are athletic, and it's like they all had different answers.

Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think just like finding what mentality works for you over there too. It's just different. You know, like the hot smashes are a thing, choppers are more of a thing. So you kind of got to get in the right mindset. But I think probably seeing the ball off the bat is a lot different. At shortstop you can kind of see everything in front of you. At third it's almost like you can't really look at the hitter. So that's been an adjustment for me.

Speaker 6: All Right, So are you going to become a unit? Cause if I'm a shortstop my entire life, I'm super athletic, like just moving a look how cool I am. Now I'm at third base, are you doing more like bicep curls? Like eating everything? Put twenty pounds on and hit forty five bingers this year?

Speaker 3: Now, forty five dingers is never a goal of mine. I mean, if I believe that, if I'm in the right mind frame and having consistent at bats, then you know, you take care of mistakes and you hit homers. But yeah, no, I'm not looking to get bigger. If anything, I'm trying to get more athletic. I feel like, you know, I can get back to kind of the athleticism I had when I was a younger kid. And yeah, that's kind of where I want to get to.

Speaker 5: Obviously everyone knows your dad is Dante and he was a hell of a hitter, but he teaches a little different than like a lot of guys. So is that a struggle when you step into the cage and everyone's like, oh, lift and your dad's like, no, we don't hit like that.

Speaker 3: No. I'm lucky enough to have had some pretty good success very quickly in my career where people didn't didn't mess with me. I would say that, Uh, the thing that people would talk to me about was more like my load and stuff. I mean, I I just have a flexible torso so I get in different spots than most people. But yeah, like I've had people try and coach that out of me, which that's been a little bit of a challenge for me. But overall, I've been lucky enough to be left alone.

Healthy, you know, coming to camp healthy and I feel good and a lot of I vps and I think I'll get into a game on Friday and you'll go from there. But yeah, I think just watching everyone pitch has been really fun. Uh, you know, got some arms out there, and yeah it's been it's been really good so far.

But as a whole, asked or Scott asked about the group as a whole, how many conversations were had since the end of last year for you guys as a pitching staff, the starting rotation about going deeper into games, about the shortfalls that you guys had as a group last year.

You know, I think that's our success. And you know, it definitely starts with us, uh setting the tone and doing all that and uh, yeah last year, you know, we we didn't do that at the end, and it's definitely, uh, you know, it was frustrating how things ended. But yeah, I think everyone that was on the team last year going to the season, you know, we kind of kind of know that.

It felt like last year, at least for us as a show, we're covering your team and we're like, hey, there's some concern about the starting staff, there's some injuries up right, and it's just like you mentioned, it was a great start and then things started to unravel. Did it bother you and did you feel like it was overblown when eventually the coverage turned to oh well, clubhouse, So that's why the team didn't perform. You know, and you've been around the block with some teams, like do you really look around and say, oh, well, I guess everyone wasn't best friends at all times and doing you know, the the Jose Glaciers sing along and the whole thing, and that's why we didn't make it. So what was your take.

You know, it was definitely a huge part and the reason why you know, the Mets didn't perform well, obviously being injured at the beginning and then you know how performed at the end. You know, just wasn't That's not how successful teams win. And yeah, it's you know, it's different coverage, different, you know, new stuff, but you know, at.

You guys stepped up. You had, you know, that career year platform year for you to get that nice free agent contract. Jeremy Hefner was your pitching coach. Now you have a new pitching coach and Justin Willard, am I correct on that? Yes, he has to learn this staff, he has to learn you guys, how hard is that as the pitching coach? Because in other sports, like in football, if you have a brand new offense, some coordinator, defensive coordinator like that's talked about a lot, how hard is that for you? And how hard obviously we'd have to ask him, but how how easy has this transition been for him? Coming in for somebody? And Jeremy Heffner, who to me that you guys had one blip in the radar in the last two years and you know he was gone.

Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I think as a as a pitching coach, like you said, it's it's not an easy transition. But I think what he's been doing, what he's been showing in spring training has been you know, nothing short of incredible so far. You know, it seems like he's gone out of his way to you know, get to know guys, get to know the routines, get to know you know, what you know, makes makes them click, makes them work, and you know, as far as like what he's able to do, and right now in this moment, I think he's doing a you know, a very very good job. Seems like every day, every time you talk to him, every day he's prepared. You know, if you have any any sort of questions, you know, if he doesn't, you know, he'll point you in the right direction. Stuff like that, which you know is kind of like the baseline. But you know, spring training, you know, it's a little bit different kind of like routines and stuff like that as you would in season. So you know, ultimately, you know, you won't won't know until we get there. But as far as you know, I'm conservaive spring training and you know, all the guys has got to go.

You're gonna have to do that. But they put you in a position where it's not like, hey, there's three guys that would be really difficult to suddenly sit. There is a lane here for you to play every day very soon.

But like Brett Baty's had that up and down. Different guys have had the up and down. Who do you think you can get more good advice from? Because it's more recent.

So one of the other top prospects in the sport, Max Clark, like dropped a fly ball the other day and then social media just goes crazy like, oh, he has too many chains on. And he spoke about it and kind of backed it up like really, that's what we care about here and said he's going to be him.
