We were very much bad. It's spooky around here, boss, it is spooky. It's coming scary time of year. Yeah, I don't, I guess you know, with this random show, we can't force things into different seasons. But I am all out of sorts here. I'm feeling oh yeah, warm and fuzzies for Halloween and it is not Halloween out no, no, no, well, you know, in a weird way, it kind of is that same kind of transition, you know, season time. I mean, it's uh, you know it said the temperature is going up instead of going down. But you know there's some some similarities. I mean, lately these years, you know, that's a thanks to climate change, it seems like it's still summer when Halloween rolls around. So true, that is so true. And to your point, you know, going up not going down kind of like a certain podcast that I know, you damn right, a particular damn right podcast. And it's time for that podcast deep dive into that. Oh yes, wwe Network ARCA. Well, you know it is. It is Halloween, after all, and I do think it is important that we recognize the dead. Indeed, it is time for them as advertised nineteen eighty nine, WCW Halloween have a death toll. We have fourteen. Oh that's Grim fourteen. And the sad thing is quite a few are pretty recent Brunos, San Martino. I want you to picture, by the way, the Halloween have ac graphical tombstoneheads. Yes, yes, yes, yes, Gordon Soley, Tom Zank, Oliver Humperdink, Bobby Eaton, Doctor Death Indeed, Steve Williams, Butch Red Woman, Brian Pillman, Hawk, Animal Anderson, Gary Hart and Terrence Funk. You know that one. That one really hurts. Yeah, just because yeah, because again a lot of them within the last like two years, a lot of these guys eating dranken. But Butcher Reid is fairly recent too. I always thought he was dead and then he actually died, right right. There's always those guys. Animal Only, Animal Only and Terry Funk are like, yeah, one is what punched me hard? Yeah, that's a that's a that's a fresh wound. It is kind of ridiculous though, that both of the Road Warriors are already gone, yes, and fucking Paul Ellering is still around. When we did the Dark Side Unheard episode off the Animal interview for the Road Warriors episode, they did on Dark Side. It was sort of like, all right, here he is reflecting on losing Hawk and you know, dealing with that death and dealing with it meant for him in his career. And oh yeah he's dead too, by the way. Yeah, that's right. Yep. I mean it's remarkable. You feel like most of that show was produced, you know, after the wave of drug induced deaths and premature deaths that the business now, it's like, and then all of a sudden, a show like that, it's like, wow, he's gone. Still a few, Yep, there's still a few. And again New Jack yep. Well, at least Funk New Jacks. That's fine, but Funk though at least, you know, Funk Funk is one of those that he's he's you know, more of age totally at least, you know. Yeah, it's just the the subject matters. We happen to pick Scott Hall, yeah totally. Oh yeah, so many, so many are just gone draws. These are guys we picked because they had fascinating tables and they all draws. I don't know if they're all drawn. Well, I guess that means to be seen. But it's Halloween Havock and it did draw that seventy three hundred paying fans at the Philadelphia Invention Center, about one hundred four thousand dollars at the gate one point seven to seven pay per view by rate, which was about in line with what they were doing in a very healthy nineteen eighty nine from a pay per view by rate perspective, that does sound pretty good. Actually, yeah, yeah, nineteen eighty nine was successful. It was so satisfying during the lapsed Funk when we came to nineteen eighty nine and we realized that you can't you can't slap Terry Funk with a guy who was, you know, just because he played to small crowds towards the end of his career, a guy who was legendary just because of his trade craft and wasn't a draw. That's that's total bullshit. Yeah, like he blit shit on fire in nineteen eighty nine, to say nothing of you know, the kind of business he did while touring Champion, the kind of business he did in Japan, sure, sure, incredible business for all Japan and and really, you know, he was no small part of getting the New Age Outlaws started with Cactus and all that. Yeah, absolutely, and in fact getting the fully character off the ground because it was playing the clips of the death matches that yep Anita FMW ful Kawasaki Stadium. Don't even don't even try, don't even try to impugne the legacy of the Funker around here. So quite a show. And this is one that a Dave Meltzer himself was in attendance for, which is always yeah, oh my goodness. He went to a lot of shows in eighty nine. He was the first Flare Steamboat match where Steamboat won the championship. You can see him in the front row there with what was his name, Brad Muster from the Chicago Bears, who was a huge, such a big progressing fan that he actually a subscribed to The Observer and like was his close friends with Rick Flair, which accounts for Dave's connection to Flair dating back that far. And it's it's interesting to read The Observer at the time because he's he's doing both a live event perspective and he's doing a TV perspective watching it when he got home, and it's like, for example, like as you were there, according to Dave, you could appreciate that everybody knew that under the hoods of Doom were Ron Simmons and Butchery. Like everybody knew that. Yeah, you know, people in the crowd were buzzing to the point that every people knew who Ron Simmons was. Time, Yeah he was. He was around okay, and he'd broken into Florida about a two years before this. And I'm I can't say I'm positive you had done much in the way of w W television matches before this, but I'm pretty sure he did. Bush Reid was obviously the much more recognizable television star with with that with that build, you know, that's rather unique and easy to do. But yeah, it was. It was a good crowd, It was a good It was a good piece of business. As much as uh, you know it might get maligned, it's a good piece of business. And uh, the the Thunderdum Cage debacle aside, Uh, it wasn't one. I don't think that that, you know, the gym heard run w CW regretted doing in any way, shape or form, And I mean, you know, again, it really had more to do with really like the match itself, when you kind of ignore the fact that it's a that it's a throw in the towel finish. The the actual mid of the match is actually very good, and it's very exciting, and it's very intense, and it's yeah, you funked decay. Yeah. They use the cage mentality and the kind of the cage gimmick very well minus the electricity. You know, electricity is a different thing. But you know, if you take if you subtract the uh, if you didn't have to deal with the electricity factor uh and the uh, the the towel thing, it would actually be a great match. I mean, it is a great match, but it would be that much better. Yeah, because we go on and on about how cage matches nowadays are just like a reason to do different kinds of stunts, to have different platforms off which to launch, as opposed to matches that feel like it's it's it's a blood feud coming to a head and the chicken shit heel has no way to escape now right, which of course is the only reason to do a cage match in pro wrestling then now forever, you know, see the sanitized w W war games where it's like, you know, you don't feel any of the sense of gang warfare that the crocket war games was able to evoke. It's all about you when someone's gonna climb in the top of the cage basically in tables and chairs, and right, who's gonna who's gonna be the first to take a fucking table out of the ring, out of the under the ring? Right? And these guys, you know, he didn't pretty well with this, But these guys just had an issue that just sprung up two months ago to justify the war games. It's not like a you know, warring factions that have been at each other's throats for eighteen months or whatever, right, but yeah, it really is that it is. It is what a cage. It is the kind of intensity that a cage match is designed to evoke, a unique intensity, one that you can't get without a cage around the ring. Yeah, and you put Terry Funk in there, and he's gonna make goddamn sure that that gets across because he knows what a cage is supposed to mean. Yes, And the way he's selling his leg is Flair puts the figure four on the end and Sting keeps splashing all over the head. It's just fucking amazing. Cage matches are about tortuous finishes, aren't they. Yes, they're about that last moment of a heightened torture than you usually see guys do to each other. Yep, yep, it's about, you know, it's about It's like magnum lantered in the head. It's going that extra mile because like you know, now you've you've you've thrown the room out the window, You've thrown the safety precautions out the window. Now you're just in a dangerous place. So there are right, there are two things. It's like, number one, you can take out all your angs and your opponent. Number two you need to survive. So you really need to beat the shit out of your opponent as fast as possible so that they don't kill you first. I love that. I love that so much. Observe reporting that the gross pay per view revenue for Hollyween Have A eighty nine came in between two point six million and three point two million dollars when you factor what about the what about the tasty pay per view numbers? Fourteen ninety five if you bought Ahead of Time nineteen ninety five, if you bought Day of wow a fourteen ninety five pay per view take me back. I mean, I say, the last time we had a fourteen ninety five or nineteen ninety five pay per view price was and in your house in like ninety five. Yeah, I know. Well, actually, don't take me back, then, I take that. So we opened Halloween have a eighty nine with moon and trees and spooky graves. You know, I just give me more of this shit I need. I love these cheesy graphics that WCW would do. I love them. I love them, I need them. They're so wonderful. Yeah, they It really does feel like flicking on like a Super Nintendo game. Yeah, exactly, And we zoom in on Flair and Funk and Mooda and Stings graves. It says their names on these graphic headstones. And I couldn't make out the people in the back though. There were some people in the back that word oh really not Maybe one was Elvis or something like that. It was hard to see. Oh, they put other names on other graves. Yeah, like there were only a couple. They had the main ones, and like behind them, just for like texture, they had other ones. Yeah, that was a running joke over the years. At Havoc, they put sure gravestones on the set and then do inside jokes with the names they put on there. But yeah, like you said, they do the graphical spooky ghosts, like the wavy ghosts emerging from the stone the headstones. Yeah, and Hew Navig eighty nine and kind of a stylized orange blood as if blood's dripping off the letters. It's so great settling the score. I remember this VHS more than anything. It was. It's so funny how afraid I was of renting WCW tapes. Well, you didn't want to waste your rental, I know, that's kind of it. Like I was, I really, I rarely ever, It's just so funny. I had such a desire to get a completest, you know, as much information as possible. But I was horrified of renting old WCW tapes. Well, it wasn't always clear just looking at the box what it was you were renting to me. I felt like the branding when we're talking about this era, it wasn't like I don't know, it wasn't abundantly clear what WCW even was. Like those first Turner Home Entertainment VHS releases were kind of like wargames, Like what is this like war games. The name of the promotion I remember the AWA came out with someone was like All Star Wrestling. It didn't really like present as the alternative of Wrestling company tape. It just seemed like sort of like a compilation of non WWF stuff that that you didn't really understand was it's its own pay per view. Sometimes I felt right right because everybody, as we've talked about in Colisseum Collection and other formats, you know, rushed to market when WWF started making incredible profits off the VHS lines. They came out with eighty four, so everybody was just pushing everything into the video stores. It was on tape, they were putting it on the shelves, right, So you didn't really know what you were getting sometimes if it wasn't that WWF insignia on it. So we start the broadcast highd the rafters at the Philadelphia Convention Center. Jr. The voice for the show, welcomes us in and a crowd looks great. The set looks great, the lights are on point. It's you know, the entrance way is kind of like subdued. It's curtains are hanging, but it's not really like lit like the Jim Hurd entrances with the ww logo and the ramp. They haven't quite got there yet, but just overall of the show looks bright. They keep it dark in a way that seems purposeful. I think they could have let the crowd and it would have looked great. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. But they didn't really find that like WWF did, which is a huge problem for a young fan. Huge problem. Absolutely. You know WWF bright blue, bright crowd people, you know, n W A dark crowd, don't see people. Why should I care? It's a very simple thing to a young mind. It is. It absolutely is. J are joined of course by Bob Coddle. The crowd is really ready, he insures us. Thanks Bob as supposed to pretend ready, which I suppose they may have been earlier. Said he just came from the dressing room, and wrestlers are anxious, excited, maybe a little concerned. I'm concerned, Bob. And they pitched to Gordon Solely, who at first his sound is not on, so he's talking microphone, he's talking about in a web behind him and what about he's wearing a gold bow tie? Is Gordon Solely, Well, that's something telling us today. He's gonna talking to the free Birds and Lou Smoky Smokey dressed him before he went out for the night. We'll get there, We will get there. Gary Hard as well. Oh maybe you should put Big Bully music on the death toll since he was in the Halloween Navic eighty nine thunder Dome Cage ads he died of cancer? Actually did he really? Yeah? All right, yeah, well that's fifteen kind of counts. I mean, he's not on the actual broadcast, but is he Well, yeah, but it doesn't really count, but I'll add him anyway. And seeing Gordon Solely is significant because it's something that Jim Ross and getting you know, into the producer's chair and having Jim Herd's ear actually effectuated bringing Gordon Solely back into the wrestling scene. He pretty much was banished from TBS after banished is the wrong word, but he disappeared from TBS after then sold the time slot to Crockett and they plugged him. Of course, David Crockett, as well as Tony Shavani, no interest in you know, bringing back Solely and letting David Crockett be the idiot's incredibly awkward voice of h that's my I TBS. We let's not bring in the fucking greatest of all time, the guy who defined the broadcast since its inception in nineteen seventy two. But uh, but now about Jay are here in his first book talks a little bit about bringing Gordon solely back into the fold, which we see here at Halloweenavig eighty nine. So we created a role for Gordon in WCW Jim Wrights. He was kind of like a Walter Cronkite commentator. We called him the Dean of wrestling broadcasters. He liked hearing everyone use his new moniker, and soon it was here comes the Dean and good morning Dean. So we created a deal where we would write two minutes of commentary, an idea I got from Paul Harvey, an iconic radio newsman who did and now the rest of the story. Did you ever hear those on AM radio? Yes? Oh my god, Now you know the rest of the story. So Gordon, and now you know what goes on in my basement? Yeah? Yeah, well that one never made air, but I heard about that one. That was Paul Harvey going rogue from ZAM Studio. Yeah, it would just be like these little slices of life stories were like who knows if he was making them up pole cloth, but it was always like little human interest pieces illustrated a larger truth about humanity. M So Gordon would basically give you his thoughts on an angle. We would write it and Gordon would edit it if he chose to, giving him editorial control. We put it in the prompter and away the Dean went. Gordon lived in Tampa, so we'd fly on Delta, and because he was a million miler, he always flew first class. Of course. Of course in first class you drink free. Oh you're damn right you do. And Gordon was a lifetime member of the Crown Room, which meant he also drank free at the airport. Yes, this is just so pim King of the cad. It's back baby, drink pea. That's what he's saying. Did I say drink free? Drink free? At about midday on his first day and Jim Wrights, Gordon was due to arrive at the CNN Center to meet me and go over a segment. Yes, where do you think this is going? Uh huh. By the time we arrived, I'm gonna say he's lit I'm going to say he smells like smoke and sex. I think it was fair to say that it had a little too much to drink. You're damn right. This is such a Jim Ross line, and I cherish it. He writes he'd been over served, as he'd like to say, Gordon, you are right. I've been overserved again. I told him to stop, but they kept serving. Keith Mitchell, who was head of production, called me and said, you need to come down here. We have a problem with Gordy. I replied, I thought he was in Japan. That's not how I replied, Okay, I'll be right down. I was on the twelve floors. I love that. I love them being in the scene in Center office tower. Yes, yes, I need every detail of information about where they are. Right. We take for granted that they were always in the TBS studios before Crockett, But not until Crockett did they actually not until Crocketts sold to Turner did they actually move into the same building as all the CNN personnel and all the Turner home It's just too much to think about. I was on the twelve floor, so I rushed to an elevator, went down and immediately saw my friend was a little more than overserved. Gordon, I said, the storylines changed and the bookers are working on the new direction upstairs. What he said his speech was slurred, his eyes watery, and someone blazed over. Ah, I don't want you to have to do it two or three times, I said, if it's all right, why don't you just step spend the night, and we'll do it in the morning. I didn't want to scold a man I greatly respected or embarrass him on his first day in the new job. Then I checked him into the Omni hotel while he disappeared into the bar. God, we rolled tape. That's monthly him Oakerland. You can't forget even Jim fucking can't get enough to drink. Oh no, not astely, Come on, I mean drunk on the air in WCW. I mean, come on, these they need they need to self medicate. Yes, all right, yes, no one else is going to medicate them. No one cares that much. Your favorite announcer stayed, fuck uh, yes, how about it? Because they were hurting and this was the only way to feel better. Can tell me Freddie Miller didn't drop acid all Come on, you're damn right. We roll tape at nine am the next morning, and he was just forget how he sounded. Oh oh, it's a pleasure. It's always a pleasure. Here we are, we're live, and I'll tell you, I don't know about you, but I've got ballet slippers on and I'm flying up to the heavens. He's very much an ascendant, gentlemen. Is Henaje. He definitely floats from now. I imagine him. I imagine him with like you know, he could if he was ever an angel, he'd be one with like tiny wings, but he could still fly, you know, anywhere. You know. The whole fucking chair about fit, you know, unbelievable. It's all about black Saturday vibes. Yeah, oh absolutely, So from then on that's what we did. Gordon flew in late evening, just in time for him to get a nice dinner and a beverage, and then we'd get up first thing in the morning and kneel down a segment. It was good to see him back, and his appearance has always got great feedback. The fans loved having him be part of a TBS wrestling show. Once more. Gordon had an issue with the booze. It wasn't a well kept secret. His health was deteriorating, and unfortunately his best friend with his life partner's wife, smoke. He was very ill to watching her fate away was killing him. I wanted to do something to say thank you for steering me in this direction. I wanted to give the best of the business a reason to put on a suit and come in front of a camera again. For many many wrestling fans, he was a voice of their childhood, and to hear him back on the air, even for two minutes as a show, was a pleasure. A short time later, we were doing TBS Saturday Night show tapings and I was lacking a color man. Gordon was very, very apprehensive about doing color because, to be truthful, he didn't want to go four plus hours without a drink. Your damn fucking night buss. Come on, come on, come on, let's be honest here. There were a dark, sad episode about Gordon's Seriously, have you ever thought about it? Folks? I sent a stage hand out, very what's necessary necessary? How bad did it get? Gordon? Yeah? We love you so much. Where do those velvety tones come from? Gordon? Gordon Gordon with those pipes coated in the finest whiskey. Gordon, who's that in your trunk? How many bodies you got in the trunk? Pal Gordon? Was the super Bowl worked, Gordon? Did you work the Super Bowl? Gordon night? Did you have action on the Super Bowl? Brother? That's there's nothing more pro wrestling than the guy who presents is the most classy and above it all. Oh yeah, being a total lush totally, he's the problem, right, everyone's tiptoeing around all the baggage. He brings tremendous think about Larry Nelson, talk about announce Absolutely was all the time, tremendous stuff, hungry hungry. I sent a stage hand out and got Aniglo cooler and we filled it partly with orange juice and then the rest with vodka. Gordon sat beside me all night and drank screwdrivers for four hours and just filled in the blanks drink or no drink. I loved working with him. It made me feel like I did something right for the business that he got to come back and step out of the dugout for one last run and tip his hat to the crowd. So jay I mentions here on the broadcast that the cage was above the ring. It is mesmerizing. Bob Coddle says. The word on everyone's lips is Thunderdome. That okay, Bob, Thunderdome. And since we're going around the day, is here our newest broadcasting colleague, Christopher Cruz. Oh god, do we have to can we not? Can we forget that he's there with branches behind him, you know, a bear spooky Halloween. Before they go to the ring, I'll be talking to Bruno the Steiners Warriors staying holy. Now to the worlds, he says, best wrestling announcer Gary Michael Copetta. But the line was the world's most dangerous wrestling announcer, which was just like an inside joke. I guess with Gary Michael compettit like he looks like he looks the least dangerous person ever, but he calls him the world's best wrestlingner. Okay, that makes sense, and it's you know, hey, and is his home turf of Michael Copetita very much a product of Pennsylvania. To the ring, we go blue white, yellow ropes, navy canvas, blue mats on the floor, and apron yellow turnbuckle pats. Yes, no riding or logo anywhere. W W way it should be okay, yeah, you like that, it should be? Yes, well no, I mean yeah, I was gonna say you just said that, you didn't mean it. I'm saying it because I like it better. I guess I'm saying I like it better than than what it is today, where we are today. Yeah, you know, I guess that's really what it is, because I do. I mean, I like it, I love I prefer what we talked about, you know, the blue, the blue with the black and yellow logo. But I'll take this too. Here comes Captain Mike Rotunda to a round of booze and his varsity called singlet and uh around a booze already with the Gordon solely. What's that? A round of booze already with Gordon Solely? Yeah, not the only round of booze issued that night? How many? How many rounds we at, Gordo, It's amazing. The z man, George Zaharian here in Pennsylvania makes his bread in the round. This is where Jo clarifies that Gary Michael Petti has been dubed the world's most Dangerous announcer. Thank you very much, and they're already starting a chance Sarahcuse sucks, of course. Mike Rotunda a stand out at Syracuse University. Yeah, and we have our open contest of Halloween Havock nineteen eighty nine. It is the z man Tom Zank against Mike Rotunda. He was part of the Varsity Club stable that had basically broken up. Rick Steiner went on his own and then teamed with his brother Kevin Sullivan kind of disappeared. He was on television how it is. He was kind of involved in the first early iterations of the Robin Green recruiting doom thing and then disappeared as well. He was kind of like banished from They made passing reference to it, and you know, Mike Rotunda was just left to hit fireman's carries. I guess I don't know it could do. We're Tom yeah, j You're go ahead? Good? Oh go ahead, please do say JR. This gives quite the description of Rotunda with the Again, this is one of his great run on sentences of the of the show. Here we go. He's in there with a man that has Bob Commons talking about Tom Zinc by the way, talking about Tom'szank in there with a man mentioned a proud holder and a long time holder of the World Television Championship. He defeated a key to Coloff for that title in January twenty sixth of nineteen eighty eight. So he is he knows what it's like to compete in big matches. He's been won half of the World Tag Team Championship. So indeed, it will be a severe test of the Z Man's ability against an outstanding competitor, the likes of Captain Mike Rotunda. Ben Jim, I think you're right one hundred percent, and I think one of the assets one of the things that Hilda's going to call on this his experience. It's probing insight, probing insight. Jim had a he had Jim, Yes, come on, you know, you know that every time a fucking you know, a new match came out, all of a sudden, it's like he'd lean over, pull out a thing and then undo the rope, the strength and all right, here's all this college transcrit here. We are all right, got college trans we got uh, well, no one, I don't know if we want to do the college transcript. This time didn't look like he did a good job, but elementary football, talk about football, talk about you know when he learned it, when he was potty trained. Parking tickets. That's right, you know, you know, Bob micro Tunda has thirty five unpaid parking tickets. Thirty five unpaid parking tickets. Well, that's actually not as much as I would have expected. Jim. Uh, well, well, Jim, I I like flowers when it comes to uh springtime. Oh right, absolutely and interestingly, h No one was ok Michael Tunda during the entirety of the Iranian hostage crisis makes you wonder if he was an Iranian was He wasn't an Iranian sympathizer. He was an ir S sympathizers A federal whoa whoa. All right, here we go, another T shirt for the Halloween having giddy nine show we need suspenders of the I R S tie on the front of the shirt and says I R S FGS federal government sympathizer. Oh fucking and in that and in that vein Rotunda from the lock up, goes to the waistelock and takes sank Down Jr. With his full sports broadcaster voice big time on this. I know, oh absolutely, Oh Bob. The pace, the pace is quickening, the pace is quickening. Oh close line he scores. Yeah, he's running the playbook and all that. Oh, I'll take it. But it's just it is, it's funny. It's just funny, you know, with his like trying to be a real announcer pretty much. Yeah, trying to elevate this thing, like anyone's ever going to treat these guys as serious athletes, no matter how many college things you read off. Uh so this man has yet to be pinned, we're told here in the nw A and Rotunda slaps on an arm block and then aside headlock nice and tight. Return to keeping it nice and tight early, yep, push off tackle. Man's exactly a baby face that Philadelphia would at an NBA show we shop on back in nineteen eighty nine. Oh fuck yeah, I mean yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, i mean he's like just he's It's kind of funny because it seems like Tom z Ank's got some got some moves, you know, like he you know, but but they just don't want anything to do with him. They're fucking miserable, jer hate him. They want to kill him. Like Rotunda was trained by Dick Bayer, who was a Syracuse wrestling coach as well. The Destroyer. Jerr says, one of Zank's more uh esthetic honors is mister Minnesota. That is to say, his athletic accomplishments were bodybuilding, which which are aesthetics and not athleticism. I'm not taking issue with it. I'm just I think it's hilarious that he felt it necessary to call it esthetic accomplishment instead of athletic. Uh. Let's see Tom Zank again with a tackle off a headlock. Rotunda takes a powder as Zank has knocking him down one too many times. J R. Says, Mike Rotunda was starting heavyweight at the University of Syracuse and the starting defensive tackle for the Orangeman and the Greendion. I was like, I was thinking to myself, Oh okay. From once, Jr. Just talks about college wrestling, and then of course the second half of the going is the football career. Jr. Says, My kind of success will be also spend life on the grid iron in Syracuse. The other hen sped life on the griddle iron. Spend as much time on the grid iron. Then I was put on the griddle making pancakes. Eating pancakes, sucking down syrup. Jr. Absolutely flips flapjacks like slowly, you know, you know, you know, listen, listen. Here's the thing, all right, you could be a guess at j R's house, all right, and and and it's like the last thing he wants to do is is serve you, right, all right? He does not want to like he'd rather not have to deal with the mess and the cleanup. All you want some breakfast, well, you know I could go for some pancakes, and then he lights the fuck up. You say fried bread, and j R. Lights up and he becomes like a fucking humpty dumpty, just cheerful like he You never see Jim Ross move so fast, all right, he is ready to have The only person who cooks breakfast faster and more enthusiastically is Hogan before Linda gets up and calls him a dip ship for doing it. Terry, Why the fuck would you make the kids break The kids can pour themselves a bull of cereal, Terry, This is ridiculous. You know they don't need food in the morning. Fuck you, fuck you, Terry? What brother awesome? Nick's like chilling a piece of bacon staring at his plate, so he doesn't have to engage in the fighting. Right, Oh god, but yeah, he's like he like, you know, and and and and but the one, the one detriment detriment to UH to j R. Is that he'll give you, like, maybe eat two pancakes, and he gives himself like a tall stack, a tall stack of cakes. All right, he'll just sit there. Can you remind me? Can you remind me what we used to call pancakes in college? The cockasna get the cockakes? You're filing the cocas there, It's ten thirty at night, it's fourteen degrees out, we have class tomorrow. You want to go get the cocas? That first time we went, and oh my god, I didn't know what I was in for. I didn't know those cakes were coming out so big. I got a milkshake. I couldn't move. It was. It was ridiculous. I mean, I don't think I even I mean, I don't think I even could finish the pancakes. They were so fucking big. Our man, Aaron remember him? Yep? Yeah, Aaron? Where can we get pancakes around here? So? Oh, so you go so street diner. We were like, what where? What that way? What's what's that all? You gotta go that way? I could go there right now. Oh my god, absolutely, Jr. Says Mike Peltona's ski to success will be in wrestling z Man, which I think goes for everybody on the card. But Michael Tondo with a leap frog and a hip toss but he misses nilbow drop, and Tom Sank hits a drop kick, and Mike Peutuenda takes a powder yet again. Jas He says that Mike Protunda's a little unscrupulous from time to time, so you're gonna watch him slow going early between these two, perhaps as it should be early on a card like this. You don't want the opener to get too intense, dispose to the corner. Hurt though what's that can't hurt? Though it could could use a little speed to the corner. Rotunda tucks in a knee and the thumb off the headlock to the eye of Tom Sank and Jeris. Tom Sank has been nicknamed the z Man because the ladies who followed WCW you call him that, m yeah, because the last one in their list. Well, ladies been talking about I can't think of a single cutaway this whole broadcast to a woman in this crowd. I know, well, I guess we've gone through the whole outfit. I guess we'll just go with the Z Man. It's like how they said the Dynamite dudes are probable with the kids and the dynamic teams and there's no kids there. Well, they do get one kid and it's very awkward. Oh god, yeah they do. That's true. So masks in the crowd, of course, it's been killed me. You can't say that a couple of grown men who look as odd as they do, that they that they're good with the kids. Not anymore. I can't. You should have been able to say it then either. So there's all kinds of Halloween masks in the crowd. I can't tell if some of them are Mooda masks or just like it looks like Oscar mat Yeah, yeah, exactly that. That's a fucking merchandise bonanza. Wait and happened a red great Mooda Halloween mask back then? Oh yeah, seriously, I would move. So Z man' is in with the Sunset flip chair says he's got to get him over, and I wouldn't be. He said he's going to get him over, and I wouldn't be so sure of that. Yeah. Michael turn immediately hits the floor after that near fall and yanks on the trunks indicate that the X Man was pulling his tights, and Bob Cuddle says, the Z Man has superstar written all over him. Oh he does. I'll tell you, Jim, he's got a fabulous career ahead of him. No, he's a superstar in the making, a superstar before you can have one. Sometimes I wish someone would tell me what seam punk has written all over him? Or you can't read half of him? Oh I know, he's got a PEPSI sign on it. Yeah, I can read that one. And the cobra, the g I Jo Cobras tattoo. That's about it. Are you ready for this one? Mike Rotunda, the former Punk pass and Kick National's mea finalist as a nine and thirteen year old, Jr. Says what the fuck? Come on? And Jerr, you know makes the point I heard. I heard he kicked his first football when he was aged six months years old. Six months years old. I just said that. I just said that, Jim did Tom Zank, you get a football for Christmas? And when he was four, can we go there too? Back in nineteen sixty four, Tom's Ank got his first athletic ball set from Santa Claus. This is serendipity too, because remember last week we were having a lot of fun with that moment on Unforgiven nineteen ninety nine where Faller starts prodding Jr. About what college fabulous bull of played football. Yes, but here he goes, it's fucking unleashes. This is where it comes from. Yep, And he points out that this is a relevant status. It retains to Mike Rotundo, this is this boyhood achievement because this is back when these kinds of skills competitions were held during actual NFL games. So you actually were, like, you know, in the spotlight and breaks of the action where they put kids on the field to do different things. Yeah, and so apparently he was one contest away was Mike Rotundo is a youngster from doing his skills display at the Super Bowl as a nine year old? What was Tom Zank doing as a nine year old? Jr? Has nothing on that. No, No, he was probably like sucking his own dick or something. Okay, Uh. Ze Man with the wrist lock now and Michael Tonne hits a knee wich Jared calls a retaliation type move. He whips to break and pipe. He does the drop down arm dragging the cross up by z Man a bit of a miscommunication there, and he cranks a hammerlock on the canvas. Hilarious kid on the hardcam. Uh, who was a kid? He's kind of a maybe he's a kid. He's got a Cleveland Indians hat on and he's clapping like, oh, yes, yes, he's fucking he's he's wild wild yep yep here. Uh, this is a would you would you let you know Bob Coddle's opinion on on athletic speed and you know and and we'll just leave it at that. You want to know about I'm intrigued. Oh, you just can't teach speed. Jimmy, either got it, you're born with it. You've got it, or you don't have it, thanks Bob. Was Bob born with it? And you tell me I'm with it? Yeah? Uh, jim I'll tell you you know what. You can't just do speed now, Bob, You've been making that very evident for the first twenty minutes of the broadcast, and every time you've touched the microphone in your whole life, speed has been the last thing in anyone's mind. I'm gonna go home, see in three weeks. The VC on the singlet of micro Tunda stands for Varsity Club. Jr. Points out, and here I am thinking it was venture Capital. Well that would be much later. Why is he still wearing a varsity club attire if there's no fucking varsity club? As the have another singlet. They say that since leaving the he's had a great record, so I guess he's had some time indicating the micro ten in fact, that thrives more as a singles than a tag team wrestler, which he was visa vi Rick Steiner. In the Varsity Clubs Nintendo, the head SATs are on sanc uses the ropes as Nick Patrick admonishes him for that. Then Rotunda slaps the leg, it lifts slightly, and zinc lets out a whale. Because when you have a guy's head in your legs, I don't know if you know this, the way to really make it hurt more is to slap your own thigh, of course, because it's like you're it's like the uh it, I'm hearing crazy sounds in my house. You know. When you indeed, I know seriously, you slapped your leg and then what do you call it? The it like the the it vibrates, all right, it reverberates inside your leg and it hits your opponent in the skull. I see. So it's right. It's more of a brain rattler than it is a Yes, a muscle contortion. Yes, very interesting. I never thought of that. So there's a guy with some glasses. I don't think many people did that. I don't think many people did. Guy with sunglasses and a great flash camera in the front row grabbing proof that microtunda's in fact using the ropes. Imagine developing those pharmacy afterwards. It's like like, you know, like, dude, you're not gonna have it in time. The match is gonna be over by the time to get this fucking thing developed, all right. There's nothing like pictures taken at wrestling events before, you know, camera phones. I mean, these things were so distant, so dark, so bad. But oh you loved them, you loved them. Yep. They were so blurry, you know. I can remember the ones that I had, like I was really, you think in your mind that you're gonna have these incredible photos. You think that you're capturing what your eye can see. Right, You're thinking exactly, and you're gonna get that frame and it's gonna be crystal clear and that it and you have no idea about shutter speed or anything like that, but you think it's gonna be perfect and you get it, and all it is is a blur. It's terrible. It's absolute shit. There's hardly any light. Everyone looks like they're under like an interrogation lamp. Right. My Wrestling fourteen pictures, they look like they were taken in Madison Square Garden in nineteen sixty one. I can picture the fucking photos that I took at that in High Gear tour in Worcester. Oh okay, well that building was dar get empty anyway, though it was right, but it was just awful. It was just so awful. Everything was blurry. There was no shot that I was like, oh, it's so cool like everything, Oh well, all right, Bob Coddle by the way in low Gear, Oh absolutely, Jr. Says Mikerotunda likes to wrestle near the ropes and he's comfortable on the mat. He's very ring wise, Yes he is. He's a he's a he's a ring general, a Matt tactician, tactical efforts of Microtunda. There's also a mention of upstate New York having strong elementary and junior high school wrestling programs. Of course, that you know, accounts for a Retunda's Matt sense, even though he didn't grow up in a you know, an Iowa or a Minnesota or wrestling powerhouse state boring chance. Starting here in Philadelphia, Jr. Says a man told him he's going to keep it very basic here tonight and only go for the home run if he has to. I'm not sure this was a home run, so I guess he decided he didn't have to. Like a tounda side steps and sink hits the floor to a big pot. They right, that's the thing. All of a sudden, they start really rooting for Rotunda. It comes out of nowhere. Yeah, I mean they're not, they're never cheering Tom's inc. But they they're they're still booing Rotunda until all of a sudden, you just get bored and they decide to be fun. If we just's like they bow him. They boo him unless he comes back with something wild and beats the ship out. You know, it's really crazy, and Zank takes a significant flight. The whole aisle is exposed concrete past the floor mats, so he's all the way out there, and Jr. Speaks of rings savvy coming to the forefront. Of course, of course we've got rings savvy, you know, ye, rings savvy. Like Altunda slams tom'snk in at the apron and they say he's addled and his eyes look glassy. But that's another matter altogether. Uh, Jim, I wonder if you mun't mind getting me a pretzel. I'm feeling a little squeamish. You heard that too, right, And can you also get me a baked potato? I'm feeling a little sour creamish as well. No question in my mind that Bob Cattle would get the baked potato at Wendy's. Jim, I love getting that baked potato. Mind if we go to Wendy's after the show, after the matches, so I can get so I can get some baked potato with a sour cream and chives, small sprinkling of chives. I know that my wife is not going to have dinner waiting for me at home. No, I need something that I can eat right now. Only Bob Cottle would sneak into the house on Thanksgiving night, starkad night, and you could hear the rustling of the brown paper Wendy's bag, grease stains on it. Bob, Oh God, if you don't know this, folks, this is some of my favorite stuff we've ever done. Star Cave Memorial Tour, the idea that star Kid was always on Thanksgiving night and Bob Cottle would be in such hot water with his family for not having Thanksgiving dinner. And he comes home. The only light on the house is the lamp on the stove. They wouldn't have and they wouldn't say anything for it. He gets nothing, He gets nothing, but the wife leaves the light on because she still kind of gives a shit about him. But she's trying to teach me the lesson at the same show. She doesn't she doesn't want him to die, but she wants him to know that. You know what, you know, he's gonna he's gonna be punished for for for working on Thanksgiving night. I love it. And man, did he work there? You? Yes? Bob, did you get Wendy's again? No, No, it's okay. Well, I'm going back to bed. And my underwear is rattling tonight. Yes, a little dry, that's my underwear. That's that that'll that'll throw her scent off the trail. That rustling you hear that sounds like a you know, the rappers of the Hamburgers. That's my underwear. She'll go back to bed, honey, nothing to see here. You don't want to know what happened to me, honey. Ah. And then three hours later he wakes up. It's like three forty five am, and for some reason, in the barka lounger, his wife is blowing him well and she's eating the fucking baked potato. Yeah. He's like, he's just trying to ride the wave because this is incredible. But at the same time he can't help but notice that the baked potato thing is empty on the on the coffee table. He's like, somebody baked potato. He's thinking the potato in the throat potato, and he's thinking about the baked potato. Aw, it's potato powered cream. Yeah you can say that again, char order up. Bob hurled toes Coddle, h all right, you know you're signing up for when you put as he's also got you know, he's still got his his his his jacket on from the matt like he's got a shirt tied jacket, but now he's got no pants. Nothing odd all right because his wife is just going to down Cot and she's not doing it in a way where she's almost doing it like it's for her, you know, like she's kind of trying to Again. I think I think she she she wants to get it done while he's asleep, like she wants to do it. And to basically say, you know to him the next morning, guess what, I fucking blew you while you were asleep. You didn't get a chance to enjoy it. Oh that's way more twisted than I was getting it. Interesting. Hey, it is the wrestling business. It is. So there's a hot shot in the top rope as that Tom Saint tries to reenter the ring and on the apron, I wouldn't call tom'sinke a hot shot. Mike Rotunda takes him outside in with a high vertical suplex or another big pop from this Philly crowd as he does the arms like it's over. Does we're ton to cover one too? We're a ton to goes to the abdominal stretch. Gets to the ropes too, were an extra advantage. A man is wailing in pain as we're ton of uses that illegal leverage Jr. Which he would know a lot about as a venture capitalist. Jr. Says, Mike Rotunda doesn't like being caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Speak for yourself, Jim, Wait, Jim, is there a cookie jar? Yeah? Where Jim jam Jim jam cookies? And here you bob z man breaks free and hits the ropes, and Mike Aroretunda absolutely kills him with a cuffing lariat and that kinds of the crowd goes fucking nuts, whipping a drop kick nose. A man holds on, so we're Tunda hits the empty pool corner to corner with Mike Rotunda. Then suddenly, well these corner bucklings make big squad weeaking noises when they hit them. Oh, I know, the ring is very noisy. It really makes it makes you realize just how dangerous it really is. I know, the clink clan, How how easy this could turn south? It is exactly right, right, exactly right, and z Man crushes Microtunda's head between his knees. And you know that thing where you like you're setting up a pile driver, but you just don't know what you call it, like a head breaker. I don't know. It's such a stupid move. Never like it. A regally used to do it too, right. Yes, then there's a corner to corner reversed whip, and then micro Tunda decides, you know what I can do a springboard twisting cross body block. Of course he can, so he breaks it out. Problem is, ze Man rolls through with the momentum and hooks the leg for the one two, three, thirteen minutes, twenty three seconds. Tom Zanks the z Man defeats Microtunda in the opening contest of Halloween Havoc nineteen and eighty nine. Unbelievable. Talk about a gut check. He passed it with flying colors, we're told as we see Doug Dillinger another personnel lead Tom Zank onto the ring and so you know, oh, here's by the way, here's the theme song again. You can listen to the background. You can hear the Batman theme Charge of the Bay Danny Elfman. I believe Oh look at that. Watch it again right here. It's slow motion fad unbelievable move by the man running go what tna came off? The high cross body? But what the roll crow? Why this man? But preference of mine, the great mindy outside leg Chris Cruise, believe me listen, is that the B Man? That would be the B Man? I mean, how incredible is that? It's really it's very jarring. It Why the fuck why? I mean, I get I guess that it's kind of it's Halloween needs Danny Elfman totally works, but like why why? Yeah? Why are you doing movie themes with these fucking guys, the Turner Home Entertainment people, right, they're all movie people. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They would try to make movies. They try to imitate movies. They would try to, you know, put movie characters in the ring, like RoboCop and some of these other characters. I'm thinking of another one. You had a rack a man for Christ's sakes, you know, yeah, I know, I think that's what it was. And and the thing is it's even more jarring is not only do you get the the shitty dubbed over music on Peacock when they come to the ring. But when they show the replays, because they can't isolate j R. And Coddle's voices from the background music, it's just silent during the replays. Yes, yes, just music. Music. It's just they played music. It's so stupid. So Chris Cruise is with the British Simmartin surprised that there's not you know, I'm surprised that there's not like a fair use, like a fair use situation there, because it's not like it's playing by itself. Yeah, you know, well, I think I don't want to chance it. The fairy use is having it on in the background of a live broadcast. But once you choose to retransmit it, you're kind of you know, you're not just broadcasting something that's happening. You're making the decision to distribute something with that song in it, even even even though it's like you can barely hear it. Well, I think they probably, you know, could get away with it if like I'm sure, actually I'm not sure if you bought this on VHS when Turner Home Entertainment put it out that the music was still there, and I'm sure they never got sued over it. I'm not sure actually, because that's the thing about Turner is they have enough money that they're worth suing. If you have the music, you know, ECW is not worth suing because what the fuck? They're right a pot to me. We were recovering anyway. So Chris Cruise is Murdosa Martino, who he calls his hero, and he's in his again has mentioned Madison Square Garden blue referee shirt with the black bow tie. I got this, I got this one for you to take it away, Bruns. Mike to Jim Ross. It is indeed a personal loanto to be standing next to my hero, Bruno Sammartino, the living legend, Bruno, welcome back to Philadelphia. Thank you Chris here brunod you have faced many challenging and difficult situations in your nearly thirty years in the ring. Have you ever faced anything as difficult as refereeing in a Thunderdol match? Not quite, Chris. This match is very unique. You know, you have these four individuals in there and practically anything and everything goes. Actually it's a very dangerous match. You might say, well, what's your role in there? Well, anything and everything goes, So My role basically is that make sure that for example, Le Anderson, Gary Hart don't come in, don't get these guys any kind of a weapon. And when somebody throws the towels, of course it's my job to stop this whole thing and to declare victor, and anything else that might happen in that ring that should and I'll be aware of. Can you see anything happening in that ring that might maybe make you stop the match instead of the terminator? I really don't think so, because this is a match, it's going to be fought to the very bitter end, and it's going to be up to the either Anderson or Gary Hart to bring a conclusion to the match. All right, Brono Semartino, good to be with you and glad to have you back in the ring. Good to be here. I heard you say something, but I could make it out. Well, what does he care if they fucking give him them a weapon? It's a notice qualification match. But yeah, it's kind of weird. It's weird. It's weird. And so if you're wondering what awaited callers to the Bruno Sammartino nine hundred line back, then it's been a referend Garrett Martin on X was able to post a screenshot from a magazine from ninety one. Bruno Si Martino, the living Legend, tells you what makes his Italian blood boil? Oh, the number is one nine hundred hot? What about what about his Italian sauce boil? Yeah? Exactly, Yeah, you call him, just find his recipe for brugol. The number, by the way, is one nine hundred hot Bruno, which is not what I expect. The ad reads call right now and here what the hot blooded but soft spoken Bruno has to say? God when he talks about WWF charades such as sergeant slaughter in general Adnon, you can almost hear Bruno's Italian blood boil when you call Bruno pulls no punches, He knows what he thinks is good for the WWF, and he speaks his mind. I want to hear more about some of wrestling's hottest issues. No, listen to Bruno's personal message in his Wrestler's Corner. What you call, leave your own personal question if you like. You can even find out how to become a professional wrestler two dollars per minute. I'm good, thanks, though, I thought Bruno would definitely be above a nine hundred line. I mean, listen, come on, yeah, that is actually it's very pathetic. I'm very disappointed in Bruno. He's doing our gimmick like call and hear me shit on WWF right right, next up in Olivan have like six man tag doc in the Midnight's uh fake music here on the broadcast on Peacock of course, but of course we all know we get the real shit. And but yeah, they play what is the song songs called Chase by Giorgio Moroder. Oh, he did the score for Scarface. There you go. We should have called that out when we did Scarf faccio. Uh, yeah, I didn't. I didn't really realize that. Of course, it's sediting ping king sing king king ping sing tang dang ping saying, which is what a FTR comes out to. An aw now, Oh, it's inspired by it. I see Jim Cornett out with the Good Nights Bobby and in Stanley. Yes, indeed he cuts uh he introduces his team, uh in classic Cornett fashion. Really, how are we wanting to have some fun today? Yeah, ladies and gentleman, I present the deadliest six man tag team combination. In wrestling. First, the full time All American from the University of Oklahoma, the toughest man in the world, Steve Doctor up Way and his partners the greatest combination in wrestling. They've wrecked more homes than a hurricane. You go, Beautiful Body and Sweet Stan Come INNX Natural disasters jokes. Yes, perhaps all time, because this was the year that the earthquake in San Francisco postponed the World Series. Oh and they actually I believe moved the game to this Saturday night, so this Halloween having up against that would have been much better. They should have done that instead. I'd been much more time late called that out. So yeah, we've got a Jim Cornette, as mentioned and referenced earlier. He's now like kind of getting the side eye from the Minute Express because he's paying a lot of attention to the dynamic dudes and trying to mentor them as well. And that's all supposed to lead to the Midnights turning on Cornett or whatever. So Gary michael Been introduces Jim Cornette, who stands in the middle of the ring with his racket and his racket inspired jacket, and here come the Samoans, The Samoan swat team and they're tossing burning torches back and forth to each other in a overproduced entrance. Overproduced. I don't mean that bad. I mean it's more than you'd expect in terms of special effects and effort. Looks pretty cool. And what do they come to the ring to? Oh god, this is unbelievable. Here, thank I can cank and cank and cank and can cank and can thank and thank Tank and Kant and can thank and Cank and tank and can't thank you thank and cank. You think the smalling from there thinking Tank and tinker shop think and can think thinks the warriors. Wow, that is paint right in there, looking as German. I wait, that long away of a nine hundred pen four pounds time dam my wheeling when you see three guys like that coming towards the ring tremendously Does that mean Caudle, what does that mean? I don't know what he's talking. Guys like that? Are you racist? But I really dig using that song on the Hollyweend Havoc Show. Of course it totally makes sense. It's just again, it's just weird. Yeah, it's like it's I mean, was that their regular theme or they just like they just did random halloweeny themes for I'm pretty sure that was just the Halloween Havoc theme for them. Wow, and the Big Kahuna of course, are all over Humperdink, which I'm sure you have no issue with. Look into his eyes. I mean, I I just know, I can't, I can't. I just think about uh, I mean, I think about it when we talked about one time with him just just completely sweating miserably while he's getting blown in a hotel. That makes so far on the show. Yeah, I know, but like just you shirtless and just like the hairs, yeah, beating on his right, on his chest hair right, it's becoming very like it almost looks like the the whatever you call it in a whale's mouth, you know, yes, yes, yes, totally, which is fine. Yeah, well yes, Samoan Savage as well. Uh so you got you got what you got Samu and Rakeshi, you got the head Shrinkers, and you got Tongka Kid here as the Simoan Swat team, of course, before Paul Hayman would link up with them, and thus beginning the lifelong alliance between Paul Hayman and the Simons that continues to this day. There we go, got a Sir Oliver Humperting tapping his forehead like he's trying to drop blood on his way to the bring. And man, I'll tell you, Rakishi looks a lot like Jimmy and Jay you so oh seriously, any more than he ever did in w W for some reason, I know, I know, he's just so young. Jim Ross says, Humperdink has regressed the three simoents back to their tribal state. So I guess they moved to some I don't know. So that means that they're not human or something. Is that basically what he's say saying? That's animalistic? Analystic? Barbarian, Is that what he's basically saying of all samoans? No, that would be the legion of doom versus powers of pain? Coming up there we go. Jo references Humpt managing them and also skyscrapers, not power of the pain. Well you said, Barbarian, Oh, I see what you're saying. What you did there? I got you. Jo reference that Humperdink once managed the original Hollywood blondes Jerry Brown and Buddy Roberts, So he's no stranger to Tag Team Managing. I don't know where the hell that came from, but there it is. Oh, it's true. No stranger to Tag Team Management. Of course, they weren't the original Hollywood Blonds at the time. They were just the Hollywood Blondes. Because Steven Pilman did, he had to form their team. That's true. So this Mon's Watch Team versus The Minute Express and Doctor Death. Steve Williams. I asked you a question to Steve Williams. Come to play. Oh fucking he's I mean, what's going on here? Boss? He's a fucking monster, like just he's ready to fucking kill. He really is. The guy was always coked out of his mind, but this is like to the extreme here. He's very like and they and they are eating it up. Oh the people, Oh my god. There is nothing more nineteen eighty nine NBA fan in Philly than what Steve Williams does in this match. This is Oh, yes, what they want wrestlers to be and do. Yes, Yes, they are hungry for it, they desire it, and they will destroy for it. Absolutely correct. Tommy Young, Presiding Jr. Talks about how Doctor Death is rougher and tougher, and while he's partial to doctor death, being a fellow Sooner, he does want you to know the November nineteen eighty two when a junior at Oklahoma Steve Williams started pro wrestling, and then he went back to football for the fall of eighty three and played in the Orange Bowl and was an All Big Eight performer. Yeah, yeah, it's going down at ringside. These six are ready to fight all over the building, and Tommy Young has the un individual task of trying to keep them separate, rate and getting the things started. Caddle says Humberting's biggest problem is getting the smoens to use wrestling holds. And I don't know, Bob, I think he's got other problems in that. I think there. I think he's got a lot of other problems. By side story face off in the Ring, Jr. References Jim Cornett advising the dynamic dudes. That's the verb they would always use her in the storyline advising, advising, advising, not managing kindly. Paul Haman who draw the distinction between being an advocate and a manager or a special counsel agent agent an agent right, Stan Lane puts out the most awkward karate kicks you've ever seen. I mean, I don't know what he does this for. I mean, he's just the worst against Tonga kid. He is stan lamee backdrop and he closed lines the Samoan savage. Who is Tonga Kid? By the way, I think I'm gonna call him smo and savage for the duration out of the ring to the floor. Bobby Eaton with a big right lands with a big slapman. Could he throw right hands from Downtown Jr? Jr. Calls the Simone swat team unorthodoxy, Yes he did, And and Coddle likes to talk about the savageness of all the Samoans, of all Samoans maybe in general. Yeah, and Samoans are very uncontrolled and very unorthodox. Yes, sir, completely out of control. And I think one of the biggest problems the big who that's gonna happen with somebody is getting him to wrestle, And by that I mean Jim get in and wrestle and use wrestle the holes. I don't think they're gonna do that. I think that they're going to try to mall you, brawl you, kick you, scratch you anything they can do to you to hurt you. There's what the Samoans are gonna do. That's that thing you mentioned before. I didn't realise with the whole thing. So there we go, Bob Coddle taking charge. Did any smart ass baby face ever call him the Samoan twat team? Really? They really should have. Absolutely, I'd like the Rock would come back and call them that, well, not the Simons, like he'd be allowed to call him the twat team, and nobody else will. Yeah, yeah, right, So the clotheslines, smoll Savage out of the brain of the floor, Bobby eating with the big right hand lands with a slap, tables get turned over, and again it's a peer six brawl on the floor. Doctor Death screaming, shaking his hair with a come on, and you don't want that guy and inviting you into a fight and we tell you no, I run the other direction, Doctor Death doing that. I'm out se uh it's so wild the funk out. Oh they posted like the dark set and heard Jim Cornett Vince Russo face off where you know Cornett's to crying. The brawl for all and how it extinguished the earning potential of Steve Williams in a bankable main event star, and uh, it's hilarious. Look at the comments and people's like doctor death. Nev would have been a superstar, never been the headliner. That would have been money. Nothing was lost here, and it's like, yeah, well I can remember him being really you know, shelf warned by the time he came to WWF fair enough. But I look at this, Steve Williams. I mean, no, the next thing I do as much how we've ben have a eighty nine and suddenly it's a little more complicated than that. It is is he is, uh, he is a very dangerous individual. He's scary. He is he you know, I actually was wondering too, what was his rep did he have? Was he safe or was he like yeah, he would hurt you hawk? Was he hawk? Or and like Vader? Like yeah, you know he was. But he almost always was put in the ring with fellow hosses. It's not like he had like a series of squashed job matches where you know, he could break someone's back like Vader or dump someone like piled them on their head like Sid. I've never I can't recall usually you would you know, remember a specific flashpoint incident that showed him going too far and taking advantage. But yeah, if you were in there with him, it was a it was a rough night at the office. To say the least, you're gonna you're gonna feel it so field the next morning. All right, that's what I figured. He seems like that kind of guy who's yeah, you know, apologized later exactly. You know, let's say, an explosive first step is how Jr. Would be? Yes, indeed, Oh god, so you know we're going over all these great serious gridiron platts of all these wrestlers, no less doctor Death Steve Williams. And what can we say about Stan Lane. Well, he's a former karate instructor in Lifeguard the name former martial arts instructor. Is this I mean, I mean, like not so interesting at all. I mean, he's he's he just I can't stand him in his fucking face. Everyone else has these like athletic credentials that make you fear them. He's got credentials that make it sound like he's trying to bed your ex wife. Yep, yes, yes, he probably is. You know, well he also you know he's seen true lies. Yeah, yeah, coming soon into the sentiment. But uh, he's like, I know that one qualifies just in the title alone. He uh, he's like a Bill Paxton in that you know where you know, he tries to fucking to to to bang housewise, he doesn't really succeed that often. That's why he's a he's a martial arts instructor like on one day and then he's a yeah, you know, he's like a dental hygienis another day as a surf instructor the next right, exactly. Yeah, Stanley definitely definitely has done water sports instruction in his life and Florida. They had mentioned on the pay per view that he was discovered by Rick flor at a beach party. He was famously referred to over years as the only wrestler Rick Flair ever trained was stan Lane, and they wanted to take his his DNA sample for paternity custody disputes. For years, it was like speculated that he was actually Lauren Bolbert's dad. Have you ever heard that one? No? In Congress there that's amazing, and I think even the wife, well the mother of Lauren bobit even sort of implied that it was true, and and I guess it all eventually was was sussed out and it wasn't true. But he he he was said to have sired many no doubts, you know what I mean, I have no doubt like that, Like nineteen eighty nine Stan Lane. I'm you know he he slithered his way into many a pussy. Well right, he was. He was the difference between a woman being able to, like, you know, get married and feel like she left nothing on the table, and getting married and feeling like she never let her wild child out like stan Lane, exactly sure that she doesn't have that really exactly exactly she yeah, yeah, he exists to make sure that that that that wives stay faithful. Ironically, so the Midnights do a double whip and drop the Simone Savage with a couple of back elbows, and then the simone Slavage Sam slamsman tag sam Ow who missus an elbow drop, and then Bobby. I imagine him the kind of guy that even like now, would like still go to bars try to pick up Oh sure, he's just like that lame man rememb him is a w W announcer picture of now. I can't he's so stupid. He's so stupid, looking like he's he's the love child of of Lex Luger and Billy Gunn. I love the ones that are just two wrestlers I don't have to google. So Bobby Eaton comes in throwing those hands on both samoans to a big pop. Another Peer six show now like they do that one too many times in this match. Oh, I know jer going on about Bobby and putting up rings at just the age of sixteen and the whole fucking history. I get it. Sam I got a j r. He was a bum who fucking like found his way into wrestling like everybody else. He is as he's as he presents, Yes exactly. Samu chops Bobby eating hard corner to corner whip, but he misses a splash in the corner. And then Doctor Death gets into that ring and he is cooking, man, he is cooking with rights for everybody he there. There is a chubby I imagine former high school football coach who is on his feet with his arms in the air, belly going everywhere. When Doctor Death enters the ring, like you can see his belly just like living like a dream. He goes to whip someone and Savage Irish whip him and he pushes him so hard that he bumps through the ropes to the floor instead of coming off the road like he's he's he's scary whipping a football tackle and Rakishi goes soaring incredible on the tackle at Jr. Screaming former offensive art Oklahoma University. I got that for it. Listen to this fucking crowd. I don't think they've ever run up and using a likeness ball doctor that he must take those guys and learn up the brons can cherns you or something? And I think he thinks he's on the Oklahoma line right now. To Jim, they could use him this year. Jim just got off the phone with the It's funny imagine that he actually could use him. Hey bottle, jem, No, no, please, no, I didn't fucking the fucking the fucking hat comes in. That's that Jim Ross's are you a fan? Yes, exactly. Uh you're talking football Sooners? Huh what Sooner? Bama? TI Jr. Has an opinion right now on whether the Sooners are looking good this year. Yes, he does. Remember, wasn't there wasn't there like a period of time where they went undefeated for like like ten years or something like. No, I am so about college football. I have no clue. I mean, I am too. I only knew about the Sooners because of because of JR. Like when I read his h his you know, back in the day of the Ross Report on the That's why I could never live in the South. I could never love college football, and therefore I just don't belong there. And I accept that. I mean, I just like there's something about I have no I could I could enjoy the atmosphere. Yep, well, I could get behind foot college football if I went to a college that had a football team. That's what I'm saying. It's just not a thing. I mean, Boston College is a good one, but no, it's not excellent. It's not elite. It's certainly not right. It kind of he's fucking you know you where you watch the games for the rest of your natural life, even after you've graduated. That's the thing. You don't have to go there if you live in Alabama, if you live in Oklahoma, like roll Tide, Boomer Sooner like for your whole life, as if they're the pro sports franchise. I get it. It's awesome in its way, but I just I don't know. I can't. I can't go there. I can't. I can't talk about college athletes as if they're pros. It's just it doesn't I know, I just don't. I don't. I don't care that much. I can't. Yeah, I have to reserve that level of enthusiasm for pros. I just there there. Yeah, you know, there's almost a it almost comes down to the fact, and it's kind of the way I feel about most It's why I like football, NFL football better than other sports is because, like I like NFL football because there are a certain amount of games. We've talked about this before, and of course the the what what gets me really frustrated is that you can go or you can watch a game baseball, basketball, whatever, and they win or they lose. It doesn't really matter, right, you know, because the season, Yeah, you just wait for the right right and so it just it's it's very hard for me to to to follow that because I want to know what actually matters, and yeah, you can check this, but and and in a weird way, college football is like that because there are so many teams, because there are so many whatever you know exactly, and so it's like I just I just don't. I can't get into it because there's just too much. And again also because I don't I don't have an allegiance to any team, like no team really means anything. I kind of was gup behind USC while I was living in LA but not really in a way that I cared. I never even went to a game, but I was interested in the USC football scene, like vaguely. I went to a BC football game once. I loved it. I had a great time. I would love to go back, but I just I don't know. Oh, going to games is always great, don't It doesn't be anything. I'd go to any fucking sporting sport, uh, you know, sporting event. I love any of that shit. But I think the perspective we're coming from is probably why the one Vince came from and why it was, you know, kind of mock Jr's college football enthusiasm, because it's just not a thing really in this part of the country. I mean, it exists, of course, and it's it's great if you went to these colleges, but nothing like fucking, you know, ninety thousand stadiums and kidding me, I know, I know. So if I two gets the tag and he faces off with Steve Williams. Jr. Actually plugged Starkade, which he actually played a big role in putting together, saying this is good. He actually says in his book that he was the one that came up with the rod Man match the iron Man Tournament concept, which is just so stupid for the show. I mean, yes, you go back to the memorial tour. On that one, Jury's in, a verdict is in on that one. He talks about the most unique format for wrestling event ever held. So we can look forward to that. We have a Doctor Death and Fought too exchanging whippis reversed off the buckle, and Doctor Death with a big Larry in my god, you they come like you just played with the Woods on the fucking Yeah. They are hungry. They wanted to see him kill runs over Samu as well three point stance and kills FOT two with the tackle and that's when the Rascal line comes in and they could use him this year, and Jr. Mentions the story about how Doctor Death one suffered a hundred eat stitches above the left eye and continue to wrestle after that. It was a nineteen eighty five match against Brad Armstrong and wrestled the next night, you know, solidifying his tough man bona fides, forever j artist, a bit of a bio and cornet as well as a former photographer and wrestling fan club member who was working the concession stands in Louisville to get started and now is here as a manager. So he's got the full bio and everybody. It's like he's reading the back of those old WCW trading on corner. Oh yes, Midnight's take over. Now Lane with the goofy kicks to the gut of Fa Tu, but Fa two blocks sanm Lane's HP toss and kills him with the Larry. Yet Samu comes in and a spin kick of his own catches Lane on the chin and a dropkick as well. Lane fights up and tags Doctor D who circles Samu to the corner. Simu chops like crazy headbutts and a whip is versed at the corner and a ronning Larry It crushes him right into the camera. Steve Williams drives him right into the camera into your living rooms. Yes he does, in the corner and then he runs sam to Eaton's right hand from the apron snapmare and a leg drop by doctor death and attack to Eaton as Bob Eaton comes into the falling Lariot off the ropes, dropping Samu for a two count, and now here comes the Samoan Savage Soloafa pofo. Excuse me, hey, issues me? Is that does that come with Tahini sauce solo O pofo? The Samoan Savage sols landing no pofo. Oh Jr. Says Hi to the close ooh, oh, God, damn it to the folks watching on closed circuit in Jefferson City, Missouri, at a high school called Helias Catholic High School. I don't know what the fuck that's about. Jim Hurd almost definitely has a relative going to that school at being Missouri. All of a sudden, Jr. Shouts out, one closed circuit of this show in Missouri. It's very bizarre. H Hellias Catholic High School is six hundred eighty students in grades nine to twelve with the student teacher ratio of sixteen to one. Tuition is forty nine hundred dollars for the highest grade offered as of this year, and after graduation, ninety three percent of students from this school going to attend a four year college. Boss wonderful, Bobby Eaten think I'm very happy for all those students that do that and who watched Halloween Havoc eighty nine on closed circuit? What the fuck you go to a high school on a Saturday night to you like close my circuit please? Eating in Samu eat drops an elbow with Samu drops down for the monkey flip. So nice little bit of games. Eaten and fat two. Yeah, when you do eat, you get fat too, fat too. And Stanley when you can't I used you that. When you can't quit eating, you get fat too. Lane with a cross body. He gets caught and timber slammed into the canvas, but he misses a big elbow drop and Lane comes with the arm ringer and then wraps Fatu's arms over the top rope to make the tag. Very inventive there, stan Lane, Yes, you know, basically putting the arm over the top rope so that he can't move his opponent, that is before he makes the tag. Oh, he is a martial artist, you know, absolutely. They do teach you that and kill a shin From what I understand, Bobby Eating wrenching the arm as well Own Savage and Bobby and mixing it up. There's a bit of a cross up here, and Bobby Eaton tries a bulldog, but man is he levitated into the corner crotch first. Bob Eaton soars with his nuts hitting the buckle. Yes, he does. It's like he's He's in the air three seconds longer than you expect him to be. It's it did. It's like his he was being pulled in by a tractor beam right, like an invisible rip cord. It's been pulled. Crush is fucking nuts, big o' from the crowd. Was such an uncontrolled bump it looked, It looks incredible. Bobby Eating has then launched the floor outside and double teamed and crouched on the steel guardrail, and Eaton is then hip tossed by fat Too in the aisleway, and yes, you can hear the slap of the Alabama flesh on the concrete floor. Back in, Bobby Eeden with the sunset flip, gets the two on Simoan Savage. Not sure how he came back alive so quickly, but he did. And then the double team cons on Bobby Eaten by the Samoans double clothesline and fought two is a jumping head. But to get two on Eton Jr. Says the Samoans don't have the imagure background, so he doesn't know how a great play in the leg from time to time. No, that is true. That is part of the that is the problem. You know, they don't They don't know how to grape vine. Coddle says, Bobby Eaton desperately needs to get over for the tag, and he could have stopped at for the tag as far as Jim Hurd is concerned. Ah To slammed into the canvas head first, bounces up and kills Bobby Eaton mit lariat. Yeah, come on, you can't use you can't use fucking heads, absolutely right, heads don't feel nothing. Any any thoughts on how they suddenly cut away to Humperdink's bugged out eyes at ringside. I'm not okay with it. I mean, it really is. It's Halloween havoc, all right, Yes it is. It looks like a fucking Halloween mask. Jr. Says that Humper is orchestrating traffic. Well, choreographing traffic might be a little bit more appropriate, but we'll take it. Eaton lets out a luger owl on a Headbut when samu lands, Bobby Eaton is in all kinds of trouble here, and Coddle says he's going to have goose eggs all over that head tomorrow. Yeah, uh, and regular eggs too. I can imagine a couple of big zeros for them too, if the afore mentioned Alabama flesh as any indication Bobby looking like someone who lived in Truman Capote's childhood home, who lived in Truman Capote's belly. Someone savage bites Bob Eaton's arm and they even show teeth marks. They call that out of the broadcast. That's a good idea. You couldn't know if the guy's paling if you can show teeth marks that actually of course, of course, you know, it's just like just fucking lightly lightly touch him and all of a sudden his skin's red. Made me think I'm surprised that it wasn't done more often over the years in wrestling. Get a nice tight camera shot on it. Yeah, someone savage with a sidewalks lamb kills Bobby Eaton, who's so good at the cell, so good at the cell, Oh he's he's he's spectacular. It's a one to two and forget how incredible he is. Absolutely Jared calls out the lack of a grape vine again in the cover tent by the Simone Savage, and then Doctor Death breaks up the cover. Simone Savage tries a Vader mom off the middle ropes, but he lands on the knees of Bobby Eaton, even gets up to so orient and goes to the wrong corner, climbs up the ropes. He grabs those ropes. Yes, like he's hanging upside down and the only thing getting him up off his back is his knees are two weak. Yes, yes, is the ropes. And he climbs up valancely with the ropes and makes the tag too yes Doctor Death William and he's and he's clapping before he closed lines thank you for Oh he's Jesus Christ. This guy's a fucking freight train. Ah, he's such a fucking he is. He's a locomotive, all right. He is coming full steam like he's like the the train at the end of Back to the Future three right, And what's the essence of these of these wide bodied samoans it's always they're the freight trains. They're the ones that are going to come barreling down and take you over. Doctor Death gets in there and making like Jabron's standing on the railroad tracks and he's clapping his closed lined and gorilla press lamb another gorilla press lamb. He tosses him and Savage into the other. They go fucking insane when he throws Samoan Savage onto the other Samoans Yes with power, slam on Simo and Savage by Doctor Death gets to tack to stan Lane that that had a very interesting effect on Bob Coddle because I don't think he realized that that. I think he believes that Coddle, I think that he believes Williams like release the pin on his own volition, right, he could have gotten a threat listen to him. I had him no doubt he could have held him there for the three you know, like, no, he got kicked down of it. And he's like he's so weak, he gets so he gets so these divergences. I know, he's such a yeah, he he's like a younger sibling, like when you see like you see a younger sibling. Okay, as a younger sibling. You see an older sibling and a friends having a good time, and so the younger sibling gets excited just because the brother and his friend are excited. Do you know what I mean? Right, that's Bob Coddle. Bob Caddle is that younger sibling all the time, right, he's catching He just he gets excited. If JR. Gets excited, he didn't. He doesn't even know what he's excited about. He doesn't. He just knows that j R. Is excited. Oh, Jim jam, we got excitement. I don't know what's going on, but I see that's pandemonia. Am I gonna go eat a ham sandwich? I can't take it anymore. It's just like we say, he just like he just shook an awake and he's what what right? He's always in media res. He's always in the middle of yes, yes, he's you know, it's already, he's already and he's always one step away from rem very good one. So Dag the stan Landy comes and thinking neckbreaker, but some owen savage stays still and then does it almost like a ddt. It just lay off that he thought he was gonna take a Dedt stan Lane was thinking neck breaker. Lane focks this match up several times. Oh yes he does. He's thrown some dumb kicks. He does an integrity simoonan savage, and Jared says, this one's getting unorthodox. That's when Jay whoops out that one. You know what that means, you know, let's turn into shit here six brawl. Corny levels humpered ink with a racket. They go nuts for that. They used to love a manager and manager of violence, and Cornett way underrated as a babyface manager. He could do it seamlessly. Agreed, agreed, agreed. Then stan Lane is knocked into Cornett by the Simoan Savage. Cornett on the apron. Of course, he bumps off the apron, and that collision apparently is enough to kill stan Lane, dead enough for the one two end of the three eighteen minutes and twenty three eventful seconds. The Simoan swaps salute defeat the minute Express Steve Williams. Stan Lane is absolute loser and we lose in the replay on Peacock because we don't get here to Halloween music again. Back stage, Gordon soldiers with Terry Funk, who is ricked Rick Indeed here we go ready, Gary Hart and Terry Funk have joined me. Just exactly how far are you willing to risk your men tonight in the electrified Thunderdom? Absolutely and totally there is no quitting in the j TEX organization. And tonight, for the very first time, mister J of J Text will be at ringside with us. Terry, you know, I want to say one thing. You know, Winston Churchill said, never said die. Gary Hart says, electra fund And that's exactly what we're gonna do. We're gonna start anew dance craze here in Philadelphia. It's gonna be the ten tilesand what Booge's featuring Rick Flair and Sting here tonight. And besides that, we're gonna introduce something new fried Chicken. I'm talking about Rick Flair when we push him up against that electri fied fins what bugger this Halloween? Pay tribute to the Funker by dancing the ten thousand wat book. Yes, please, tremendous fried chicken New Philadelphia Fried Chicken recipe. Yep, yep, great stuff. Uh not so great. In the Ring from Havana, the Cuban Assassin with the flag, No, not so great. By the way, did you hear Gary Hart not hesitate for a second When asked by Gordon Soley the degree to which he's willing to risk his men in an electrified environment, he goes, absolutely and totally. Terry's like Jesus, right here, Gary fuck. In fact, I've got a I've got an electrical charge going on right here. Stabs fucking r with a cattle. Well wait till we get to observe the look on Gary Hart's face when he marches to the ring for the main event. Does is he not looking side to side or what? Oh he knows? Listen, listen. The last thing that Gary Hart like, the hardest thing for Gary hartsed to be locked inside a cage. All right, he has no way out. The computer starts overheating. Yes, you know, in terms of exit strategies, and in a city like Gary Hart is not a city like Philadelphia is not a good place to put Gary Hart. He gets very you know what I mean, It's like Chicago, He's got he actually I have this on good authority that he actually had put weapons in all different places, little crevices that only he knew about, all throughout the the arena. So that he had access to something, to a weapon. Anywhere he went. He could just reach underneath and grab a knife or a semi automatic. He had stuff right ready for him. He put it was a coat hanger up in the bleachers. Oh oh wait, that was That was flair. So the Cuban assassin Fidel Sierra is in the right and he's got his Cuban flag. Tommy Rich used to come out too. All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight by Hank Williams Junior. I really just don't care about Tommy Rich, and no one does at this point, but his very presence is an indication that Oli is approaching booking power for sure, Which is funny because here he is in Philly, Tommy Rich getting absolutely shited on by this crowd. They were tickled pink and easw when he was the manager of the Full Blood of Italian's FBI stable. They thought he was the funniest motherfucker in the world, and he was. But it's pretty funny how a full circle Philadelphia comes from this moment. Views a v Tommy Rich who faces Cuman assassin one on one. Here Cuban assassening like Tommy bitch line signs him early in fatigue pants. He's supposed to be Castro in case you didn't pick that up. Yeah, he's so stupid. Tommy Rich drops Cuban assassin with a right and a slam to no reaction whatsoever. He kind of it's not even a good slam, Like, it's just sort of lazy. He picks him up with the scoop, which looked fine, and then he just kind of drops the assassin. Absolutely well, he was. He was a boozehead. I mean basically sure, he's just yeah, he's just a drunk and that cost Listen, there are plenty of drunks in the wrestling business who were able to pull off a good slam. Absolutely yeah. Yeah. I wasn't saying this excuse for that slam. I'm just saying, generally speaking, Tommy Rich is going to uh is going to be uh be a problem. Yes, that problem. It's going to be an open question every night with Tommy Rich. You're going to get He had just come from a run in Memphis. And this is a time when Jerry Lawler, for whatever reason, was poking and prodding at Rick Flair in the press. I think, you know, trying to get attention on his world title mm hm. And so there's kind of like a there's a knock on commentary as to how Tommy Rich has been in relative obscurity for the past several years since Georgia folded. Oh my god, it's a shot there if you're wondering what the politics are there. There was something The Observer around this time where Rick Flair was doing a radio hit for Helman Havoc in fact in New York, and somebody called in asked Ric Flair question, and one of the things they asked is, you know, will there ever be a unification match? And of course Flair goes in the whole thing about how you know, he's not sure you ever go to WWF, and you know, maybe he would work Hogan, maybe one day it could happen, and the caller goes, no, I meant Jerry Lawler, and Flair flips his lid. According to this report, he just can't believe that the caller would would equate Jerry Lawler's world title with his and and even call it title it a title unification match. So there's definitely some tension there which I'm fascinated by, but I don't have time ago in that direction right now, No, so I don't think we ever need to go on. Probably not so. Tommy Rich drops Cuban assassin with right and the slam Chaeri says Rich went into relative obscurity in the mid eighties. There it is, it is re emerging here in nineteen eighty nine, he says, the Cuman assassin used to go by Fidel and you can figure out where his allegiances lie. Boo put over the shape Rich came back in. He was a relatively slim compared to what he was. Yeah, in the Last Battle of Atlanta. As they chant, Tommy Rich sucks, as we said before, not the booze he's looking for exactly. No, going to whip and Cuban assessin a little rope creds across body that gets too, which comes up with the arm drag Jar mentions that the US has severed relations restricting trade. Oh here I got this thing. Are talking fucking Cuban assfpigs and Bacon deal politics exactly originally from Havana, Cuba. Hey, you know, Jim Nick, Cubans have they been noted in recent years when they're outstanding boxers and they brought some great wrestlers around the AFLA. Stevenson, the big three time Olympic heavyweight champion, came out of Cuba. Great baseball teams coming out of Cuban now courish. United States severed relations with Cuba, restricting trade there in nineteen sixty. Really still, I think he thinks he's representing his country and their way of thinking here in the United States. And you can learn a lot from JR. Here in Yeah, he's he's, He's given all the history lessons. Tommy Rich outside him with the sunset flip, but doesn't quite get all the way, kind of hangs out on Fidelsia's back for a couple of seconds and then scoots over for the one too. That does not get the crowd on Tommy Rich's side. No, No, nobody's interested. Whipped to the corner, Tommy Rich dodges and arm drags Cuban assassin, who then rakes the eyes and JR. Says seems to be a popular shortcut for people of his ilk Cubans. Cubans then does a big slam missus nilbow. Tommy Rich back to the arms. I'm not surprised that Tommy Rich is is fucking uh is is drunk or whatever, because he's he just he gets gassed pretty fucking quickly in this match for for a veteran of sorts, Like he's he's pretty Yeah he's not. He's out of it. Yep. Like definitely fucking. As they say, sucking wind, he's just as well as sucking in the ring. Yeah, he's bringing a presentation that was not going to work anymore, even in the even in the Southern Wrestle on the was ww face, Only a mother could Love Jr. Says of Cuban assassins, and Cardle says, that's right, it's got to be his mother. Give an assassin to hold an arm bar for like five minutes, when that mean what's that? I don't know what that means. No, I don't know. Tommy Rich spills to the robes. Jair says, the Cuban assassin is not scientific at all. The amateur wrestling program in Cuba, Cuba leaves a bit to be desired, and I'm like, their amateur team is actually awesome, but it's fine. I think he means a professional wrestling program. I don't know what he's talking about. Cuba has awesome wrestlers anyway, Cuban assassin tries a pile driver, Rich backs drop backdrops out of it to no reaction. He think goes up to the top, gets tripped up and crotched and whiffs on a cross body. Uh does Cuban assassin? That allow so Tommy Rich to hit his thirs press that was his finisher m for the one two three. That's like a lazy man's you know, finisher. It's like, ah, just like throw my box exactly. I'm just gonna and I'm gonna lay on top of you and I'm gonna win. Well getting credit. He does make sure the shin bones are across the shoulders and the biceps to create a pinning thing like Oscar do that he just tackled you, but because he wasn't also going for a pin and Tommy Rich knows it ship because he bounces out of that ring immediately after the one two three and he's up the eye away more like Tommy Poor. And in this case the silent we play on Peacock is almost apropos Yes, free birds are with Gordon Soley thoughts, Oh, here we go. I don't think I even did. Yeah, I did not. I listen, I can't with them all right, fucking like I said, strawberry jam Garvin over there and you got you know, you get a piece of ship ps. Michael Hayes, Michael pos Michael Hayes, gts. All the women won him. I know. That's that's where you get into trouble. And that's really that's the problem and and the and the problem really is is that, you know, yeah, he thinks they all want him. They they they He fails to realize that all they really want is the story, right he right, he's not wanting there hanging off of because he's hard. Now they're they're they want to say, you know, they want to tell their friends the next day, guess who I fucking hooked up were a wild night exactly? You know why I have hooked up with that fucking freebird guy, that wrestler, so that they can you know, they're they're in a weird way. They're doing him a favor of his long blonde haired how long, how punch he he is, you know what I mean, he's such a fucking idiot, and he's like he's trying to be he's tried to be like a touch feminine too. Ugh. So Garvin says. Every night, the Bird's going with the ring. It's all goes on the line. We remain champions, the greatest tag team in the world, and tonight we're going to be the greatest attack team in the world tonight. And in the morning, hey says, so many women, so little time. Like Prince said, it's a sign of the times. Dynamic Dudes are great young team. When they meet the Free Birds, they're going to find out what they call us fabulous? Why where what mommy and Daddy warned you about? Oh boy? Okay, and then Gordon's solo litorializing their palace could turn into a mountain of misery tonight for sure. Okay, Gordon, go back to them and go back to the thank you to do me a favor, you know, get your get your thermos, all right, pal Dynamic dudes, I can't there. They come with Cornett neon, green hats, skateboards. I mean, they are just absolute fucking idiot. Is so funny how the crowd loves Cornett with Midnights and they can't stand him with the Dynamic dudes. What do they come out to I don't even wash mama wipe out. Oh yeah, I wish they would wipe out, which someone would wipe them out. They find a kid and put a hat on him and pose. Yeah, right, exactly. See Johnny Ace takes a kid over the guard rail and poses with him because he's a fucking creep as well. Don't you know call that kid a hydrangea because he is a pliant. Oh it's so awkward. They have to heave the boy over the guard rail to pose, now I know. And Corninated introduces them. Here they are from the City of Sunshine. Please give them the warn of us round of applause, Johnny and Shane the Dynamic Dudes, a round of booze orange pants? Orange pants? Yeah, yep, like like not even they just you know, like work out. You know I used to. I think I had shorts that color when I was a kid. Jr. And Shane Douglas, what can you tell us about how this happened? Hey again, I missed this earlier. I take full responsibility, suggested the Dynamic Dudes. I was reading, you know, one of the trending things at that time and for the younger audience that we were instructed to find it, try to find and capture and bring into the fold. Was skateboarding. Uh kind of like you know, it was a new fad. Was it going to work? And of course we've seen it's become a huge industry. So uh, Darby Allen a w used to skateboard his gimmick, and uh, you know he's a skateboarder. I mean he said, it's a real deal. Uh. The irony of this, if you watch any dynamic dudes, uh matches our presentation. He never saw two left foot of Johnny on the skateboard. He couldn't do it. So that's like one of those deals for you put somebody in the scaffold match. It has a fair of heights. Probably not the best logic you could utilize. So you know, we're trying to get two young guys. I always thought because I had running so much in the uw F. When Eddie Gilbert was some booking out there, Eddie was very high on Shane Douglas, and so was Jim Barnett. We used to tell Jim Barnett in our meetings in Dallas that I said, Miss Barnett, this is Shane Douglas. Those blue eyes, that blonde hair. He is the next Oh I know, god, he's beautiful. He's Jenenile, I said a jim m just Trini and I the son of a bitch is hung like a horse. Oh my god. He'd run down the bathroom. I don't really did down there, but I would follow him in for the rest of the story, jim what he did was masturbate. Oh my ah, ah my bar oh shit. Maybe Jimmy's presence there in w W at the time also explains Tommy Richard's return. Who's to say, but maybe that's a true good point. Yeah, So Jimmy Barnett aroused at the thought of Shane. I've seen the let me tell you something there. Sometimes I'm a fan of an elephant trunk right, all right, shit, let me see that Pittsburgh hog. Let me see that thing come out right, whip it. Do me a favor, do me a favor. Shane just hit me in the face with it. Let me see that thing come out. That's money and you know it. Hey, at least Shane didn't have to throw away the orange Neon dynamic dudes, tr right, that's what about him? And I say, I think you wore that. Yeah, you're right, he wore that. In the Royal Rumble nine ninety one for sure, absolute favorite thing as you know about Shane Douglas from the ninety one Rumble instead of you know, only fucking yeah, that's it. That's the only way I fucking knew about him. Amazing. Speaking of Shane on his podcast, he reflected on the creation of the Dynamic Dudes. We we had debuted on Music City Showdown in Nashville, first match and Swat Team, and uh, those guys got us over huges. They were great, great, They were always great to work with, and we were called something like Johnny and Shane, the next generation of the New Generation. The very next morning, in the hotel band heading to the airport, Generation Eddie sitting in the front. You have to understand, Eddie had a really dry sense of humor. I understand that. And he was sitting in the front seat. He turned around and he said, well, have you guys heard your new name? And I right, and it sounds like a setup. So I said, okay, bite, ready, what's our new name? And I'm thinking we've already aired as this thing, so you really can't chant super mean, I'm their naives me right, I'm thinking, can't change the name. And he turned around and said the dynamic dudes, and I started laughing, and he turned around went and I knew that space, and I went, please tell me you're a ribbon, right he went. So that night we were in Bristol. Flair was the head booker supposedly of this committee debacle, and I went to him in full like dude, like you're you're a legend in this business. You know that name sucks, right? And Eddie told us in the band that Jim Hurd had had commissioned these studies in California, the theory being what starts in California War's East and the two top words that were used were dynamic and dude. So Jim and his pizza wisdom decided to put the two together. And he, by the way, the same guy came up with the ding gulls right before can. I just interrupted me and asked, you, was he commissioning this study purely to find out what these big words are? I mean, how studies did he commission and for what purposes? Yeah? And I don't know, but I'm guessing, like trying to figure out like what the finger on the pulse of culture in America. And so I go to Flare that night in Bristol, and I remember he was up in the third floor dresser and he was laying on a red leather couch and I went into telling me, guy said, it's out of my hands. I can't do anything about it. And you know, like that's sort of lame, right, because I've seen bookers pull some pretty good power cards in my day, and you know, we went out and did it, and it was evident, like immediately that the fans weren't buying into it, especially now WCW started to run those northeast towns and the stuff that would work in the southern towns definitely would not work up there. And it was misery, you know, like when you're going to the ring and you're the face and he's telling you a suck ass kids and all that kind of stuff, it doesn't work. Shane actually said in his podcast, I think I heard this right, that it was in their contracts that they had to have bleach blonde hair, they had to be tan and abs. They had to have abs as well. Okay, most people do have abs, and sh you just can't see him. Yeah, And Shane said that he would get yelled at because Johnny Ace wasn't showing abs, so they yell at. Shane said to Johnny about it, and Sny abs and the Johnny Ace hilariously exactly was totally obsessed with the guy who would make the dynamic dudes is ring gear, a guy by the name of Casey, I think it was. He talks about him and he says, how like Johnny would say, we gotta take him out for drinks. We gotta keep him on our good side. Guy, it's a good girl. We gotta get this guy out, you know, we gotta keep him on the good side. We gotta be dynamic dudes with him were nothing without the colors. Shane, Oh, the orange. We gotta keep the orange. Shane also loves to tell a story about how Johnny has got his nose broken in a match one time and he's freaking out and overreacting. Backstage, he's on a gurney, he's holding his face and Riclaire comes over, let me take a look at it, Johnny. Johnny, it's just a it's just a broken nose. It'll be fine, and he screams, my face is my gimmick? Oh, I don't, I don't know if you want to ask him about that on cross examination, I'll tell you, you know, he's I am utterly amazed, amazed, how far this fucking idiot. He's such a goofy looking well because he's such a DeFi is he had a marketing degree or whatever? The fuck? Jared, who care? You know what? He puts the mark in marketing? Just a buffoon. I mean you should call him Johnny Ape. He's such a idiot. It's so he's so repellent, Like just no one likes this guy. How is he like a power b the business? That's the thing, Like nobody fucking likes him at all? I don't think so. I mean, I know he's supposed to be the bad guy, you know, when he was VP of Talent Relations, he's the guy who fires you and you blame him when really Vince doesn't doesn't want to keep you around anymore. But it wasn't even like but but but but he had the kind of you know, I don't know, like it just seems like he's just not like nobody wants him around that really, Like, given even if people like him, given the chance, they would swap him out for someone else in every single case, right right, they're they're always ready, you know now you know what like you know, if you make plans with him, you're really hoping that something better is going to come along. Jane Douglas came into this match with his arm broken in two places. They were working skyscrapers, and Sid dropped him on the rail, and Douglas tells the story about how there was a big no no about fighting on the floor, let alone if he fought in the crowd, that was like a mortal sin. As they tried to crack down on anything, you know, perceived as out of control on the broadcasts. And so the awkwardness of feeling like Sid was trying to throw him over the rail and trying to catch himself on the way down cause him to bang his elbow in the steel guard railing and break it. So that that might account for why this match kind of sucks. The crowd isn't gonna like it no matter what happens. But they cross each other up on a bunch of spots too on top of it, so not great Bad Street. Okay, they come out to Bad Street on Peacock any Free Bird's entrance is dubbed over with their original Bad Street track, But they actually came out to Free Bird by Leonard Sah. Right, well, of course it is free Bird. Yeah I know that. Yeah, yeah, all right. I think it's a live version of free Bird. Thinking of something something else? What am I thinking of? D D? Yeah, I can't think of it. I so, Banny, Yeah, I just said, you just said, you just said to do Oh the Red one Loop. That's so good. I love that movie. I know, I know, and I love the soundtrack is fucking fantastic. Oh. It introduced me to so many of those sixty songs. Oh yeah, yeah, all those fucking Vietnam songs. Oh, there's so money Forrest Coump, Forrest Coump. And they get a great camera shot looking down the aisle as the freebirds race out to this music. And if you watch the digital entrance, I mean, people are going nuts for these guys. Yeah yeah, they were so over in Philly. What was I What did I see? I can't think of what I saw. I oh no, it's always free Bird for them. No, no, no, no, no, no, I know that I'm talking about. Uh, I'm thinking about I saw some something where somebody was doing their entrance and the whoever was on commentary, I didn't know, like, do you know how they how they do the pointing at each other? Uh? These idiots Garvin? And yeah, yeah, you know someone was doing that in another match that I watched, I think for wrestle Mamia. Oh, I can't help you there. I can't fucking remember what it was. But I was like, no, they're not. They said, oh, look at that they're they're Look they're acting like a rock there, like like a rockman. Know, they're doing the freebird. Yeah right, they were literally doing the same fucking thing where they point at each other and all that weird, idiotic movement. So yeah, for watching on people, remember were you here? And then it goes into free Bad Street. Hayes has Fantasia written on his ass, all right, So they talk about Jim Ross talks about how a lot of wrestlers come out to music, but Michael Hayes was the first to use rock and roll in our sport. Yeah yeah, uh. And then and then he makes a weird claim and says that it was only with Jimmy Garvin that he won a world tag title. And I was thinking, well, what about the w CWA World tag title that he won twice? And that count apparently it doesn't. But the real free birds, the Buddy Roberts Gordy only held six man straps, that's true. They never held the world class tag. No, but he held a two man tag. Yeah, but that was after yeah, after the peak. He didn't say though, it was as a freebird. He said that Michael Hayes only won a world title with Jimmy Garvin. If Jr. Is going to be mister Encyclopedia, right's fair game to call that out. Yep, right, It's not like he's uh, he's inviting it. Garvin looks into the camera and exclaims, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no free birds versus the dudes. Here we go. I mean, I will say this about the free birds, all right, and even the Jimmy Garvin free birds. They do know how to manipulate a crowd. They do. They go with it. Yep, yep, they're very good, very good at that. It kind of shocks me actually to see them lean into it as much as they do. Oh I listen, listen. I have no doubt. I wouldn't doubt that this is a for them. I feel like curt me if I'm wrong. I could be wrong. This is just my speculation, but to me, the Freebirds versus the Dynamic Dudes is equivalent in terms of, you know, soaking in the crowd and kind of like going along with it as Hogan Rock WrestleMania. Ah, they go with it right, you know. It's like they're like, no, I'm not going to pass this up, Like I'm going to show them that we're fucking way better than you totally and they're way more into us than they are into you, and that actually becomes a very real thing. We're going to play a piece of sound from Shane Douglas reflecting on the aftermath of this match in the locker room, and it's exactly what you're identifying there where the Freebirds basically decide to start calling the match in a fashion that really wasn't inference. Yes, I mean then listen. You know what though, here's the thing you got to do that you do. They made the right cau We've said it a million times like it's really awkward and it really doesn't work, and it's counterproductive if the if you realize the crowd is just not going for you, you're better off just changing it up and playing into the crowd. I know that it's not what the TV thing is going, but I'll tell you it's just it'll make it way more interesting. It did. Yeah, I mean this would have been a dud on the show if they went in there trying to, you know, bump for the dudes like they were superhero baby faces. Right, So Tays and Shane to start, JR. Says our sport is changing. We're getting student athletes now into the business. Shane as a degree in education, Johnny has a degree in marketing, whereas Michael Haysen Garvin were valedictorians for the School of Hard Knocks. So this is something they were leading into that our wrestlers now have college degree. I really I don't have I can't comment on that bullshit, JR. What a bunch of fucking craps is it's so important to get that education Shane and Michael Hayes Now, I thought it was. I thought it was so important to get that edge in the mat or that edge Cobeland. You know, there we go, Michael Hay's the sunset flip and Shane rolls through and it's brutal. Early, it's brutal. J Darres as the dudes have captivated young fans in the n W A while, we see no evidence of that whatsoever. Yes, Hayes then leaps for a clothes line, and Shane's just not on the same page. I think it's he's got that bad arm. It's just it looks so weird. Yeah, you keep telling yourself that it's like he's not expecting a flying clothes line. Yet here one comes. Shane was putting his arm up for a closed line as well, and Michael Hays just drops Douglas with a goofy swinging neck breaker to a chorus of booze. This is seem Douglas is Philhelthia, by the way, the city where he would stampede as the ECW flat right. I know, Johnny as Big Johnny j R. Calls him, comes in throwing right hands on Jimmy Garvin and whip his reversed and Johnny ys leaps over the back and hits a drop kick in an arm drag. So or at least early on, Johnny as is trying to do the fiery babyface arm drag backdrop drop kicks. Yes, Yes, it's mentioned by Jim Rossla in June twelfth of nineteen nine in the semi finals of a tag team tournament. These two teams met and the Birds ended up winning that match controversially, and now we're the tag champions as a result. Shane Douglas comes in cranking a bit of a hammer lock and the Freebird's chance start to break out. Jimmy Garvin is reversed into the corner and takes a backdrop to no reaction, so you can see, at least earlier, the Free Birks do try to bump around for the Dynamic Dudes as you would if they were over sure, and this is not working. If they can't know, it does not work. Michael has comes in, Shane Douglas backflips using the ropes to reverse the arm. Ringer A stags in and attacks the arm as well. Must Charlie Horse It where told as Michael Hayes natural southpaw is having his left arm exploited. Chr tells us Cheer says the Birds told him thanks the respect this team. Okay, I don't know what that means. Okay, double frog by the Dynamic Dudes and then Johnny does a power slam as Shane Douglas drops an elbow and they do a double drop kicked Jimmy Garvin, who falls out of the ring to a chorus of booze. I don't see the problem. Thought of the front row near where that kid was that took the dynamics dude hat has a dynamic dude's number one sign, which I'm sure, oh it was an organic sign if I'm pretty sure I saw jim Hurd come down earlier. Hey Son, I want you to raise this fucking sign. I got a gun in my pocket, all right, I got a gun. Do you want to see it? Here? Look at that? See this, this Ryan, here is my gun. Watch this. Yeah, pizzas in the oven. Pizza's in the oven, all right, I got a sausage in the chamber. And I'm going to tell you right now if you don't if you don't raise that sign. H if you don't raise that sign, I'm going to take this gun in my hand and I'm gonna shoot your family right here in front of me, and then I'm gonna shoot you two. Okay, scary enough Floria on Halloween. Son, trick a treat, trick a treat you little fucking cus fucking go I will be heard. Wow, that's the title of the book. Are the guys channing free birds in Philly. Yes, can you hear him? Of course Ace comes in leap frogs and then drops to his back and Michael Hayes goes over into as Shane Douglas neckbreaker. Ace covers for two. J R. Says that teamwork reeks of the Midnight Express could have kept up Midnight Express. Out of that sentence, of course, I wrote, j R. Says the dude's double team work reeks of the Midnight Express. I think it just reeks. They start channing DDT, which is Michael Hayes setting up the d d T j Rrisis. Johnny as is a very proud of his marketing degree, which if you mentioned that one more time, it's gonna be and heat Central. We got that, We got that whole thing, and and and and he talks, He talks a little bit more about the physical stats of Johnny. Ace does j R. And Coddle either gives a very you decide, either a really dumb response or it's a really knowing response. Side headlock apply by Johnny. He's six or four, Bob about two forty. He's still growing too, Jim Bob. I mean again, it's either stupid or he knows that Johnny Ace is shooting up. Well, but jay I was talking about his height. He's not getting taller, you know, he's still growing, jim He's still growing so bad. He's such a like he's out to lunch. I don't understand that I love the guy, you know, for all the ship that we You know that he does, but people don't seem to love him as like a lovably. People seem to love him as a good wrestling announcer. It's just right, yeah, it really is like he's got no good qualities at all, all right, none, none. So Johnny Ace backdrops Michael Hayes with the headlock on Jimmy Garvin now and then it is a head scissor at the same time he's got a headlock on ye. So Johnny Ace is going for like flashy Lujah offense and they boo like crazy, why why would they do that? Come on, it's Johnny Ace. They do not want to see Johnny hold a headlock on one heel and then jumping headcissor the other one. They don't want to see it. So Hayes U why you know the free birds take of powder? Well, actually, Michael Hayes took a powdered anealazed to excuse me. He also, I believe they also did some did a fair share of powder before the match even started. Backstage in the bathroom. Do you notice that the type face of dudes on these guys trunks is a lot like the ones they use or dude wipes out of their time? Uh huh honey. So that O'Connor roll gets too. He gets kicked off right by Michael Hayes from the apron. They go nuts. A right hand lands from the apron Michael Hayes, and then Jimmy Garvin does a Budicon backdrop driver that one. That one's from a Toco Johnny. Uh. Jimmy Garvin kicks A's out of the ring and they pop at that, and then Garvin's keeping Ace at bay as he tries to re enter the ring. Free birds chant breaks out out of control. They've lost the plot. The free birds are now all anyone care? Yeah, it's not working, Johnny, it's over, guys, Sure is all right? Fires out of the corn with right hand Johnny Ace, Johnny Ace, It's over, Johnny, It's over, exactly it. Michael Hayes cuts off ace the Bird's double team. They crush A's in the corner and they're playing to the crowd. Now they like, like you said, they just give in. They just play to the crowd. Yeah, there's a it's really funny here too, because because Coddle doesn't really take the hint to go with it, you don't say, yeah, I know, right, listen. I mean he obviously he treats the fucking the free birds like heels. And let's just listen to him. This sounds like a fucking fool. Even though you don't like the Preburds and you don't like what they do in the ring, you gotta respect that they know what to do. They know how to people, how dog to fucking Michael Hayes, and he's talking about and even if you don't like him, Jim, they love them bobs. They seem to like him pretty fucking munch and as got to take those cans off your head. Can hear a damn thing? Oh my god, I just I that was just amazing to me, so amazing. Yeah, I mean, that's just he's a deer in the headlights. He is. He really war Yes, yes, so what Michael Hayes lines up the DDT on Johnny Ace, but Johnny is suppos to do the thing where he grabs the top rope, and so Michael Hayes tries to DDT and he doesn't go down with him, but he kind of just is too far away from the rope. So Ace just falls back and slips out of the ring without taking the DDT. Yeah, j R. Quick on his feet, credits Jim and Cornett for scouting uh the free birds perfectly and giving the dudes the way out of that d DT. Shane Douglass gets the let's say the cold tag, Okay, the ice cold tag. He backdrops, Jimmy Garby hits drop kicks on both. Ace gets in. They do a double clothes line to a big chorus of Booze, double whip, double dainty knee lift by your dynamic dudes. Then Jimmy Garvin tries the wipeout, which is like a back soup lex where you spring bud the guy off the rope first off the top. So stupid, what a fucking dumb ass move. And uh, when they go for it, this is the you know what I call You called it? You call it a nice cold tag. I called it a reverse the heat tag. Yeah, shut up, Bubba, you want to rehearse? Just shout out to Maya who sent me a video of Bubba going up to Oh he says sisonic and he says something else too, he says something else. I forget what it was, but it was something. He's driving around. Yes, he's driving around like a fucking idiot, talking like that like that. Yeah, Like it's not okay, man, it's not okay on the goods of it. Yeah. Oh, I'm just trying to get a heat on the Yeah, like he's it almost spot me, Mick, you didn't spot me. He's almost sixty years old. Let's say he got sputted, all right, Like, yeah, I'll tell you he's he's actually he loves the spuds, all right, deep fried spud is what he's. Uh, what a fucking idiot. I don't know. I would see the problem moving the guy. The guy, he's a paragon of media virtue. I don't understand. Hogan's a bad guy. Here hooty right right hoody hoy yup hoo? Yeah, how was it too? Boa? The font? What hit me with it? What is it? Just go there and watch him fucking just his website. Idiot face, yep, his idiot face. Well, you know when it comes right out there, he's still on his grind. Oh god, what a fucking moral that was up bt LS bow Love Sponge was too close to b LTS. So anyway, I didn't expect that diversion, uh, double whiped, double knee lift, and then they try to wipe out and Jimmy Garvin counters it in mid motion by crossbody and across Shane Douglas as Michael Hayes grabs Johnny Ace's ankle from the floor and drags him out of the ring and Johnny Jimmy Garvin lands on tap of Shane Douglas and they get the one the two. In the three eleven minutes twenty eight seconds, fabulous free Birds defeat the Dimond and Easter came into the world tag titles and they explode for the free back. They do that they do. Douglas talks about how a whole question about it, Yes, that he took the fall in this one because they didn't quite trust Johnny as to be able to to take the crossbody the way that it was required for the finish to come off right. And yeah, I'm with you, what's that that makes sense to me? Absolutely? And here he is on the Two Man Power trop podcast Shane Douglas talking about what happened in the locker room after this particular match at Halloween Havoc eighty nine, and it kind of tells the whole story. We got back to the dressing room and the match was really, really hard. It was very very choppy. So as I'm standing on the apron, I'm watching this, I'm sort of at a loss at that moment, you know, until we get back to the dressing room. As we're coming back, Johnny Ace was and pis thoughts and uh, we got back to dressing room and you know, we're getting the cold shoulder from the from the guys we worked with. And I remember, uh that there was a lot of tension the dressing room and Johnny gown away from everybody and I said, what was gone? He said, every time I would call something in the in the match, they kept audibling and saying no, do this, do that whatever. And you know, Johnny was not a very forceful guy. He's not a very short of guy. He wasn't a get in your face type of guy that wasn't Johnny Yates, Uh, John Learn artists and you know me, I was that type of guy, you know, I but I didn't see it going the match. Uh. When we were in the ring, and when we came back, Jim Garvin and uh Michael a they were pulling me aside and they were biting to me about certain things. And but there was totally disconnect again what had happened, what it transpired in the ring. And looking back from this distance point, I can't say him they were right or Johnny was right. But I remember that night there being a lot of disconnect. You know. Typically a mad would go very smooth. Uh. They go out and do what you have to do and entertain the club. And that night, and I can't remember it was Halloween, Havoc or a different night, there was a lot of really ill will in the uh, you know. And I was always trying to like play peacemaker between the two sides, But I remember there being a lot of and that's the matter that I'm remembering. There was a lot of ill will between Jim Garvin and Michael Ay and me and Johnny. Uh. The match to Shelf stuck, as I recall it, were a very difficult match, and there was a lot of real tension in the air when we got back resting. In fact, Johnny Yates, who was very non confrontational, wanted to go fight him. That's how pistoph he was. I remember that vividly, but you know where it emanated from when he started it? I can't say, uh oh, I know is that that not ever remember getting back addressing room and there being a shitload of tension in the air between the four of us. Shade I'm gonna fuck them up. I'm gonna do it, so Halloween navocating nine ladies and gentlemen, the dynamic dudes. That's right to Steiner's here we go, Here we go. This is gonna be one of the sloppiest and most hilarious promos of all time. We have no strategy, we have, we need no I'm just gonna say it goes. I'm going right in with these fucking Steiner brothers, okay, and and it is it is what exactly it should be, all right, Scott Steiner, Ladies and gentlemen and Rick Steiner. We have no strategy, we have we need no strategy. Tonight it's a total wreck with a band and that's when you're playing our game. Because when there's no rules, no anything, you're playing our ball game. You're playing our game. That's the way we like it. Yeah, Yo, we got due. That's a good name for those guys do because when we get telling them, it's gonna be finishing. Oh. We like a good fight. Who cares what happens? Who cares what happens to men? As long as you get it, you get the fight, you get to beat up. We just do what you gotta do. Rick Steiner many voices thinking that woman will be able to distract you and cause your defeat. No, she did it to me one time. If I get her a chance to get in there, if I get her a chance, I'm gonna take her and get it all right, fans, good god, excuse me? Good o all mikeel What the fuck he microphones away from these guys? Oh Man Jr. Put it well in his podcast. It's like the Steiners are awful tag team promos. They're good individual promos, but you put them in the same frame and just well, I mean, I guess I mean Scott awful God awful. Yeah, oh no, he was. I don't think they were good either way, is what I'm saying. Well, yeah, I mean, well, you know people think of the big Papa pump stuff. Yeah, I don't think it was good. Yeah exactly. It was kind of like it was good because it was bad, you know, right, I believed because he can't say any words that you know, that's our ball game. You're gonna play our game. You get the word game in his mind, and he just says it like six times right right? He is so moronic. What did they come to the ring too? What do they come to the ring? Welcome to the Jungle by guns and roses? Oh sure, Doom, Doom came to the Ring to her strut Bob Seger and the silver silver bullet band. I think that's the dude news that song. I could be wrong. Woman presents Doom by the way. They get the masks on in the boxing robes with the hoods, and they explain here as woman is making her entrance. The whole backstory. This is totally cut out of the Peacock version because they can't play the music, but it's actually quite handy to understand how Nancy Sullivan and AKA, oh my god, I feel so badly I'm forgetting her her maiden first name Taffalony Sandra Tffaloni, Boston Gale. I didn't know she was from Bosson. Oh yeah very much so ends up in this in this position as a spotlighted character. In nineteen eighty nine, w CB five punch had sixty five pounds kind of tax in impresentation, dude, Jasu, wop out here that come our first money? That change two? These are huge, huge man never calling by woman, never seen her before him, but ever running that her n steep food for the first time, and I don't really want to have it. As are living rings. You say, by woman, and remember that's the thready if you we can call her that, I'm stretching apoint. Jim has Robbin Green that stole the heart of Rick Steider some time ago this year. I want to start out her name Robin Green as a fan and they take me for campish impressing in Atlanta. Let her stay. She was there with a little ball cap on week after week. She stole the heart of Rich Syner. We've seen them on their days. We've seen the metamorphosis of this woman to support the work. She wants to be called woman, and she she did what she she she has done to make an impact, she says, to make an impression on the entire sport of wrestling. She's something. Man, she's like got Elizabeth vibes coming down that aisle. Yeah, yeah, I will agree. She definitely had something to her. Yeah, no question, no question, she definitely had had something. The glamor factor. She's you know, she's not a tough woman, but she's like she's the kind of woman that like, oh my god, like this is like a higher level of looks than the arrestling business. Is a customer, right, So here she is with with Doom, and she's got a great facial expression. She's she knows her character. She was goddamn talented, she really was, and she had many chances to show it. But you know, rest in peace. She was on the desk toll right. Yeah, woman, of course for some reason I did that that one, didn't land. Ah, boy, it's tough, of course, Kevin Sullivan backstage, Yeah, you know, of course. So Doom versus the Steiners, Doom on the apron looking at her, and then they enter and the Steiners pounce immediately and they're whipped into each other and launched with released Germans. My god, come on, come on, we're ready for it. And this is what happens, sparking from the Philly crowd, the clothes line them out of the ring. As Jare says, they were all Americans at the University of Michigan, were Rick and Scott. Yeah, there gushes over the arms and the chest of Doom. Uh just as uh readily so well, I guess you know, you gotta gush over something funny to see Ron Simmons with his posture under a mask. But you can totally tell, like, oh, you can tell the two apart like nobody. No one holds their body quite like Ron Simmons just just yeah, which read for them absolutely. The two of them both have a very very specific way of holding their standard ye the posture, if you will, so Scott and Ron Simmons, that is to say, Scott Steiner and Ron Simmons kick it off. Nick Patrick tries to get between them, and Simmons hits him. Doom number one Jr. Takes to calling them do number two. I can't stand that you have the benefit of knowing who's under the hood. So we can just refer to them by those names as we will. Ron Simmons takes the the Sternham in the corner Sternham first, and then Scott Steiner rabbit Larry at him drops a knee on his chest for two and then Rick Steiner comes in firing away in a big whip and a Steiner line and j R's and full Steiner line mode. He is one of my favorite things about w W or j R. Sner line, Steiner line line, Stanner line, and he nails butch to w and he barks, they love this team in Philly. Why do they love this team in Philly Because they're fucking bad as they launched. Fucker that's right, exactly. Listen, you'd think they'd be You think they'd be hot down in Florida. Absolutely from j R. Plus Lance Russell and Joe Pettsino. By the way, offering a thirty minute post game wrap up in the w W had line after this is over. I believe at the time you could also call the nine hundred line if you didn't have you know, cable or pay per view access and just listen to Pedesino and Lance Russell commentate the entire pay per view that would cost it should be free. I think it was discounted if you've selected that option. But the number was already and was always apparently No. One nine hundred nine or nine ninety nine hundred, which I always think of Gene Okerland saying, but yes, I didn't realize it here that the number before all the time. Yeah, I called it. I called it. It's no longer active. I don't think any nine hundred numbers are active. Is anyone out there in the solar system now? I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if there's a if there's any like fee collecting nine hundred numbers still in existence at all? Yep, I don't know. It's pretty wild. So so they say the number here, and then later they flash it on the screen and like dub it out, but they don't realize that earlier in the broadcast the number is read out. So they have a problem apparently with repeating the number on the Peacock broadcasts. But they don't catch every reference to it, which I wow delight in pointing out. So Rick Stanner and Butch read here j rs is Kevin Sullivan was with this group, the Doom group, but Robin Green relieved him of his duties and she's a user and she got the team she wanted to then quickly was able to discard Kevin Sullivan. Oh hey, someone's got it. Ouch. Rick drops Butch with a lariat, gets to JR. Marvel's at Rick's arm a bulldog tattoo on his arm, which was new at the time. Oh I know, he goes, yeah, Oh, they go on a whole fucking thing about this. Goddamn they do tattoo. Who cares? Because why don't you have a wolverine on your shoulder? Because you know the Michigan Wolverines, he said. He asked Rick that, and Rick responded, because I wanted a dog. And then Jerrison is guy dog wanted did you get it? Because he's an idiot and so he can't simpleton, And I'm thinking to myself, Jim, when he says he wanted a dog, he meant he wanted a tattoo of a dog. He didn't mean he wanted, Well, wolverine is a dog. Well, okay, that's more of a wolf. I think that. I mean, but that's kind of a dog. Yeah, okay, in a way, I think that's what you. I think. That's listen, I'm not I'm Agreen with you. It's not a good It's not good because Jr. Almost sounds like the slow one of the two in this exchange. Yes so, butch reid Uh then takes over and tags Ron Simmons, who comes over with a head butt. Somehow, Ron Simmons manages to fall down after delivering his own head butt, which is kind of funny. Jr. Says Scott was going to be a school teacher before Rick convinced him to be a pro wrestler. I'm thinking to myself, how does Rick Steiner convince anyone of anything? You just got finished, Sam. He doesn't even know what what side of the fucking right exactly. Rick blocks the suplex and launches Ron Simmons tag to Scott. Scott comes in with an inverted the middle of the ropes positioning he He doesn't climb to the top, He just gets in the middle of the ropes and slaps Simmons with a hard lariat for two. Jr. Says woman wanted to talk strategy with him. No doubt she is the boss. Ron Simmons basically does an r KO to get out of Rick senter Zamer lock. He almost a stunner from Ron Simmons. Really yeah right, it is. It is kind of like a stunner dropped by Simmons Jr. Says he doesn't think a woman is going to tolerate any losers, and that's that's a rich statement. Butch sends in Rick and takes his head out with the clothes line and Rick hot shots on the top rope and instead of going throat first, he just lands on his ear and his temple on them. Just guy. Rick Steinder has a way of follow us dropped out of all the plane he does. He really does so anxiety provoking very very uncomfortable, controlled, very uncomfortable Irish whip and Rick kicks him down, tacked to Scott gordbuster on Busch read by Scott Steiner gets too and then Rick comes back in. It rakes the eyes, head butt, whip, klang klang, go the ropes because these are big boys out there, mm hmm duck underneath and he launches Ron Simmons with a released German souplex. Women gets up all pissed off. She's quite a task master, Jr. Says of Women, which is which is hilarious because so was her husbands where he got the name from this broadcasting. She goes, get those Steiners because she's delivering hyper specific technique advice here at ringside stern look on her face. They cut away to her quite a bit during the course of the contest, butch Read Snicks sneaks in a shot from the Blindside on Scott Steiner as he's hitting the ropes, and Doom takes old was he in that movie? I didn't know? Was that? Was he in that movie? I didn't know? Was who in what movie the Blindside? They talking about? Doom? Oh? Yeah, well he said he came one of the blind Side. Fucking Hell Jr. Goes, how does she tell them apart? No, Bob card Last Jr. How he's telling Doom one and Doom two apart? And he goes, I'm guessing as he continues to sound more like Rick Steiner than Rick Steiner in respect and to the Flora, Scott dropped on a rail by both members of Doom National Champion, all Americans, blah blah blah uh, and then he says, but they never saw anything like this in the Big Ten. Not wrong, I suppose, not wrong, double back elbow and Rick Stander gets run. Simmons gets too Coddle notices the lack of a hook of the leg there so definitely some of some green tendencies. Jim, Jim, I saw the lack of a leg hook. You give me that leg hook, Jim, Jim. Apparently it gives me a fog horn leg horn, Jim, foghorn leg hook, Jim. Stop leaving Bob Coddle on the side of the road. I can't help Stay. I was speaking of the death toll. Shout outs to the Solar System member who pointed out that we lost Marianna, who from Unforgiven ninety nine Chaz's girlfriend. Was she there? Yeah, yeah, they should remember with the she was backstage and no, well they're making reference to her. I just I remember Chaz. I don't remember her rested slapper her. Yeah, I have her in my mind because I pulled the sound of the interview she did on Raw leading up to the pay per view with the bruise in the face. Yeah, so I guess that's a good point. Stay. That's really fucking disturbing. It's like we heard something from another dimension. Yes, yes, like an alternate reality we suddenly tapped into. Like it's all like, yeah, exactly, Like it's like a It's like a bizarro version of j R. Yes, you know, double back elbow Simmons gets too. Yeah, look at the leg. Okay, this is rough man. Yeah, you know. When the standers are hitting suplexes, it's awesome, but in between, it's kind of like plotting. I don't know how experienced these guys are, he says after the failed look of the leg. He'd on Scott, Uh, Boss, what do they call it? With Jim? I don't know how experienced I am. Do you know, Jim Doom number two? Take looking over? Boss? What do they call it? When the Big Show went to the bathroom after thirty five pounds of chipotle? Doom number two? Yeah, I'm not quite as proud of that one as I am. Uh, how many pounds of you? Thirty five pounds? I'm as proud of that one as I am of what does a What does Jose Estrada have in common with the thirty five pounds at your potelet? Vader eight? They're both innovadors. Number two. That's from the uh the Hogan first title win show. We did double team with Rick trying to stay involved in the contest. Referee distracted Scott sent soaring over the top, so big time heat one Scott Standard here j R. Says a woman, what's she gonna want next? And I don't think you want the answer to that questions true. Scott comes outside him with a sunset flip on Butcher Read. But Rick punches butch Read and he collapses in the one too back up but Reed with a mid ring swinging neck breaker. Funny to hear Ron Simmons voice. You know there you go. You can hear like the the No one knew it was his voice yet, So work on a baby and he does one two for Butcher Reed to Doom's corner. Now Rick Stander is tagged in and Scott no part of me. Ron Simmons is tagged in and Scott starts kicking like a rocket, but that doesn't do much for him. Ron Simon whips him off the corner. Klang Klang power slam. Nice awesome power slam by Ron Simmons gets to as Rick Stander gets in to break it up. Doom with the double toss like supplex almost move. I don't know what you call it. It's like a double slam, but they flip you over like a sup plex and Yeah, still don't know what to call that. Weird Ye, the same thing that Fabulous Mula and May Young did to Jeff Jarrett on the Last Show we did. Ron Simmons gets two in the cover tag to Rick Patrick. Didn't see it though Nick Patrick didn't see it, so Rick Sander must remain on the apron. His doom continues the Double Team. There's a spike pile driver that drives Scott into the canvas. Tough, Yes, Chared declares it over. But there's a lot there's a lot of selling, does Scott. Yeah, he is baby facing peril. Yeah, no, no, no question about it. And I keep in mind we know this. Jim Hurd, it's falling in love with the Steiners. He absolutely thought they were awesome, wanted to push him really hard. Only thought they were dipshits. It's tremendous. Oh, only thought they were dip shits and that they wouldn't listen to direction. And he thought it was an awful idea to have the Steiners and the Road Warrior's face off against each other at Star Kid nineteen eighty nine, which they did in the tournament. He's such a fucking idiot. It's really you're most of the same goddamn thing. It's a match. I'll tell you what to only listen to the crowd. Okay, that's how you determine if it's a shitty match. He was never He was never somebody that you could convince that because someone was working and selling out that it was being done correctly. He was not that guy. And that's why he died miserable and lonely in some ways, right, and with no money. Not really, you know, Scott's got vincetick man money that they could have had. That's true, to go to the grave to crying that as we documented on the Black Saturday episode. You think you think they'll did induct him into the Hall of Fame out of spite now couldn't go you know, like, you know, now we can induct we should induct him, you know, because he probably I mean, is he deserving. I mean he's a first Famer. Absolutely he should be, but like, definitely wait till he dies before you put him in. Yeah, him and Jean Anderson is a team at the very least should be in. But him as a single I think you could make the argument not as easily as you cause a tag but if you include the contributions as a booker. But I was gonna say, right exactly like like the career overall, Yeah, I would say is he's one of the best heel promos ever. He's he's he's yeah, yeah, he's. He's a terrific asset to the business. Uh in terms of what he you know, his positive country you say, he's a he's a tremendous asshead. Many would have called him that. That's absolutely true. Yeah, I mean, Triple H is getting is running out of things to be called classy for, So that would be a another one he could do. He's addicted to being called classy. It's mentioned Stinger's retirement on our broadcast. Let's induct you know, let's induct wrestlers that Vince would never go for in the Hall of Fame and like lou gir will probably get inducted and all that shit. Yeah goods. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not a bad thing. It's just I mean, also, also I hope that he could actually you know, instead of you know, eliminate the the the legacy wing and actually have these people properly inducted. Dude, isn't that they they drop the legacy wing thing good even do that any they should? They should, absolutely should they should actually because you should have that. You should have one guy a year or one woman a year from that era be inducted. Absolutely, what's wrong with it? Organizing it by decade instead of by has to be a woman, has to be an African American wrestler, has to be that, right, just do it. Like every year there's someone from the sixties, the seventies, the eighties, the nineties, and the two thousands inducted. Yep, yep, what's up? Okay, So crowd getting up for Scott. They start stomping because they want to see him come back Irish whip and Scott kicks Ron Simmons on the drop down, crawls and makes the tag to Rick. Rick comes in right hand's going off, barking crowd here in Philly, Oh yeah, but at a backdrop whip and a lariat cuts down. It's always so confusing, you know, because at first, whenever they tag Rick Steiner in immediately it sounds like booze. It really does when they borrow, but it isn't. They're wolfing, No, they're woofing. That's right. Steiner line Steiner line, and they love it in Philly and another and then by the way, Scott Steiner breaks out the Frankensteiner and they don't even really get it on camera. No, that's the story of this whole fucking show. Anouncers don't even point it out. They miss it. They have no idea what they just saw. The crowd is fucking amazed at what just happened. They're on their feet, But we're not Irish whip. Rick Steiner with a power slam women gets up in the apron Rick with a belly to belly suplex and then he sees women and he points at his crotch and and this is the woe who broke his heart, Jr. Says. Rick then fights off Ron Simmons as woman loads the mask of Butcher Reid with undoubtedly a very heavy piece of rolled steel, would be my guess. Oh, absolutely, come on, we all know it's rolled steel. The mask is loaded, and as Rick Steiner goes for a soup lex, his forehead is protruding. Jr. Says Butcher's forehead is protruding because yes, oh, I know, it's ridiculous. Actually, the thing under his mask is so gratuitous. And butcher. Reid head butts Rick Steiner with the gimmick hood and covers him for the one two, three, fifteen minutes and thirty two seconds. Doom makes a successful WCWW pinning the Steiner brothers here at Halloween Havoc eighty nine. Yes, woman with a very satisfied look on her face, her team of da and that's that Doom Woman. Woman. Let's go to the back. Gordon solely is with WCW United States Heavyweight Champion or NWA United States Heavyweight Champion, the total package lets Luger. Yes, I don't have this, Borden says. The Civic Center is now brimming, not brimming with brotherly love as we just discovered. Thanks Gordon, Lex with the hair wet and slipped back and he's about to face Brian Pillman. He says, this is the real deal. Brian Pillman, your little exhibition skirmishes are over with. Well, I wouldn't go that far. Lex, Yeah, I think they will very much continue. He says, I got no butterflies in the pit of my stomach. Big money, big reputation, big match here. This is when you see why I am the premier wrestling life swinging dick. What's that big swinging dick? Wrestling world is at my feet. Lex Lucor says, I am the champion of the nineties, and then Gordon Solely just totally goes into business himself as well, Well, how many times have you been champion? I will be one as long as I want, and Gordon says, there we go. He's been champion more than once, which means he can be beat. Let's go to the ring. Oh hey, Gordon, Hello, my name is Gordon Solely, and I will kill the buzz. This is one of those they would have filmed again the next morning after Gordon slept it off. Yeah exactly, I love I love him, just fucking Nope, nope, you know what. You're not going to get that for me. Get my shit in. That's right, all right, I'm not playing that game. We do it my way and that's it. So there are squad of cheerleaders on both sides of the stage in blue and yellow with pom poms, and they lead Brian Pillman out to the ring. Yes they do. It was a letterman jacket wearing collegiate athlete. That was kind of the gimmick here, and they all hit the ring Brian Pillman seam at the time rocket by def Leppard. Okay, and because it's dubbed over on Peacock, we missed JR. Pointing out that Brian Pillman is a former two time All American at Miami of Ohio Special Team's Suicide Squad, member of the Bengals and the Bills, and this is his super Bowl head that night. According to good Old JR. There we go, Oh my god, did you hear that they piped in Luger Lugar chants before his entrance? Well, well I didn't know, but you told me this. Oh my god, lou car car and then it starts. He's the heroel and he's a he's a heel right, I don't understand what are they doing? Kddle says he has it all six five two seventy five, little of anybody fat, I don't fucking JR does all this thing. And then he gets fucking flustered, like is Luger's coming down? He gets flustered. He can't. He's like he's jumping on his own words because he's so distracted by what it is that Lex Luger is. And he's a lot. Yeah, he is a lot before high school All American. He's recruited by Lou Saban to play for Penn State and the end, this is one sucks up where Penn State is he says, Miami and then Joe Perturno and Penn State and he went to Miami. He was kicked out of school right and Lex Luger was the youngest starter at the age of nineteen in the history of pro football in the CFL, where he played for seven years. Ah, that's what we all want, and they say, can anyone deny? He is the leading contender to rule our sport in the nineties, so they are definitely coming all the way with Lex. Well, actually, guys, you know what, we can't argue. I will argue and it's not going to happen. Even w w F thought he'd be the wrestler of the Die. I'm with you. I thought he would too. Yeah, we know where you're hurts my heart. Hurts my heart. But it didn't happen. And they put over how no one has held a title like the US title that prestigious in their first three years in the business, had had had three reigns already as champion, and here comes Lex Luger Now the terrific book on Brian Pillman's life in Times Crazy Like a Fox, but written by VM O. Rourke, I think set some really nice context around what this match meant, not just for Lex Luger, but but even more so for Brian Pillman. Okay, he writes. Pilman still had some doubters inside WCW, having never been beaten on television. Whispers about his size and true athletic abilities circulated among those in the locker room, envious of his hasty push. On the contrary, Lex Luger was the company golden child. While he had his own skeptics, lex weaknesses were often overlooked in favor of the mountain of perceived potential. His herculean physique, good looks, and articulate nature had convinced many that he was the next hul Kogan. Fearing that Luger was WWF bound, in ninet eighty seven, Jim Crockett signed Luger to one of the company's first contracts for three hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year. D They thought he was going to go WWE. That's really what they thought. Wow, was it likely? Yeah? I mean they plucked on and Tully Wow me. I know, but did they really think that it would a Luger would go. I'm sure he would have gone, Absolutely he would have gone. Thus begins the contracts that would sink Turner because they couldn't afford him on the back end. With no track record of being able to pack it up for the three iteration of the deal, efforts were repeatedly made to get Lex in the position to be a difference maker, but they never seemed to take. In his current run as a heel, he had tremendous series of matches with Ricky the Dragon's steamboat, and remember that one from Bash eighty nine, I Do carried by the Veterans steamboat, being matched up with Pillman on the backside of it was seen as, of all things, a litmus test for Lex. After being carried by Flair and matches throughout eighty eight, then by steamboat in eighty nine, the company saw Halloween Havoc as Luger's chance to finally do the carrying and prove he was at the level they wanted. Pilban, regardless of his obvious athletic skills, was yet to be considered a top caliber worker. Knowing that a great performance was imperative in such a high profile situation, Brian visualized the match and took the lead and putting the entire thing together. Though Pilman was capable of spectacular things, arguably his greatest asset, even three years into the business was his aptitude for mentally constructing major matches. So the drama an excitement crafted by Brian the battles would turn out even better than his level of fundamental ability. That certainly was the case. In October twenty eighth at Halloween Havoc, taking place in the heel friendly turf for Philadelphia, the bigger star Luger was cheered over pretty Boy Pillman by the male dominated audience. It didn't deter Brian at all, who put on a stellar effort in a match that massively overachieved. You agree, is this one overachieved? It's fine. I don't think it's overachieved. It's solid. I expect more out of Brian Pillman, and he's great in it. It just kind of gets a little eh like. It starts off okay, it slows, but then but then it picks up again at the end, and then it just kind of ends. You don't you always say about Bianca Belle Air, how there's like a certain gear. Yeah, that's how I feel about Luger here. Yeah, yeah, totally, I agree with something to him just that way. Luger is just someone he just doesn't He rarely ever gets over that hum and takes it to that next level where you really believe him, right where you feel like you're watching him like try to win instead of execute execute. Yeah, Luger looked like a season pro, like exuding as much poise as maybe he ever did, while Brian fought from underneath. The announcers spent most of the match putting over les, making it abundantly clear who the bigger star was. But the final flurry of near falls testing the upset had to the Philly fans on the edge of their seats, teasing the upset. I should have said. By the time it was over, every mission had been accomplished. Luger looked great in victory, Brian's standing rose in defeat, and the two had the best match on the show. More to the point, the match was such an artistic success that WCW was convinced that Le's was finally where they wanted him to be time would tell that it simply wasn't the case that kind of opened their eyes with the idea that they put him in a match, a match for him to lose his Dave Meltzer. But he looked really good, and it was like, Wow, he's not just a pretty face because they knew he was the looking guy, good physique and everything. A little on the small side, which was fine, but there was that thing of how good of a worker is he? He can do athletic moves, but how good of a worker is he. At the beginning, he was nervous in his first couple of TV matches and didn't impress them that much. But once he had the match with Luger, they were like, Okay, yeah he can work. So it's a big one for Pilman here. I believe it. Luca versus Pillman. Luger goes to Miami of Florida, Pillman Miami of Ohio. Jr. Points center, Yeah, a lot of Miami's what they're not? Well, they are in Florida. One of them Luger with an offensive line background. Pilman was a nose tackle. Jr. Points out, this is like the match. Let me tell you, Jr. Has got a raging hard on right now. This is a a buffet of college trivia here. Yeah. Yeah, he's just like he's just gonna be I mean, he's gonna have rope the uh like fucking whatever. His name is, Robert Parris, all right, that's he's shooting rope like that. He goes on about how Flair had played college ball at two sixty but dropped down a lot to wrestle, and Brian Pillman's doing the same thing, dropping twenty pounds to compete in pro wrestling compared to his football weight. Lest you think he's small, of course I don't. He was bigger as a football player, Jim says, but quicker as a wrestler. Okay, lock ups to the corner a break after a struggle. You say, so pal? What's that? If you say so pal? They keep putting over that he has it all and Coddle says he's reached his prime leader in wrestling than in other sports. Did oh listen, listen? This is the he talks about. Oh, this is funny. So he talks about the difference, the key difference between pro wrestling from other sports. Uh here, yeah, like you said, fans, I don't know whether you're aware of it or not, Jim, I know you are. Wrestling is a unique sport and the fact that men really reach our prime in wrestling a little later than new athletes in most sports. Here's this man here, unlimited career could be ahead of him as young as Luther reach our prime. Little letters, I go for announcers too. That goes for announcers, I think. Also, Ja, yeah, yeah, we're still looking for our prime, right, No, we are. I mean he's looking for his prime. He should have been a wrestlingania at USDA prime in jrskys you know the other you know, the other reason why men don't hit their prime until later in progress that because it's fake steroids, rightoid get exempt from wellness after they're forty Yeah. Yeah, like it's you know, and most importantly not real. Not real. Yeah. Easy, easy to excel when the other guy is not trying to actually defeat you. Luger takes over big Slam in the middle. Jr. Decries taunting and slapping that Luger is engaging, and Pilman is toss to the floor and lands on his feet, though and lunges back of the ring and tackles the Luger. I like that spot a lot thrown out of the ring. He lands on his feet and says, fuck this. It just runs back in and tackles the motherfucker. It's great. It's great. I mean that that is there's an authenticity to that. He's channeling the football background, you know exactly. There's a chop a corner to corner whip and Luger goes up and over on a backdrop drop kick and Brian Pillman, who throws the best drop kick in the sport. Jr. Declares Flora's lex luis, Wow, there's Luger hits. He says, Lucer has the best drop kick Pilman. Pilman backdrops Luger and then drop kicks him all right, and then he baseball slides him and Lucer hits the rail on the floor. He's safe at home, Jr. Declares. A guy in the front road turns his leg to the side to guard his knees because that guard rail hitting your knees, man, is not a joke back then, not at all. Yeah, No, Jr. Speaks about Luger's chest and how you could show a movie on it. I guess because it's wide. Yeah, that's what he's trying to get to get across. Yeah. But here, what's wild about it is you absolutely could not show a movie on it. It does not work at all. No, it would not work because he's got you know, like where the where his cleavage is it just you know, the screen would it just would be awful, I mean awful experience. Pilman lines up a springboard flying clothesline. Lucre sees it coming and SCRAMs out of the ring, which is a nice bit of bitch move there. Yep, and Pilman starts giving chase and Luger, for all his physical size, did a pretty good chicken shit routine. I have to say, yes, he knew how to run away and look like a prima donna, which he was. Yes. Yes. He slides back in the ring and Luger stumps him on the way in and takes over boots in the corner for the well developed abdomen of Brian Pillman Jr. Calls it God. Pilman does a kip up in the corner, goes to the top rope springboard crossbody from the other end of the ring, gets a one to two and then an arm drag by Brian Pillman, Tommy Young presiding. By the way, Star Kate was going to be on a Wednesday that year, a Wednesday, as JR. Plugs it, and that's really that's uncomfortable. I mean, if it's the week between Christmas and New Year, I can dig it. Yeah, otherwise what are you doing? Yeah, I know it's not okay. Emanating from the home of W. W. Mean Turner Rome Entertainment, Jr. Says, well, Star KB from Atlanta, Lex Luga tries a hiptoss, but Pilman spins out hit a drop kick, a hip toss in an arm trag. The cheerleaders appear to be making their way out of the arena and I didn't even realize they were still out there, but you start to see him in the background leaving. They talk about the young ladies being all over Brian Pillman back then, and JR. Says, I bet he doesn't get too lonesome because he gets fucked married, by the way, But yeah, that means there's women in his teleroom offer he's getting He's getting pussy, all right, that's what's happening. Can't handle that. Get out of the fucking kitchen. He's getting pussy like Luca with an iwer swhip and shoulder blocks down Pillman. Whip is reversed again and Luga with the football tackle and blocking ability being put on display. Pillman late in the hiptoss but gets it again and that does a drop kick in an arm drag, and the cheerleaders are now out in the people in the midst of the audience in town. So I guess that was an idea to run out up. The announcers are a per fuddle as to why likes Luca isn't Matt wrestling. They keep pointing that out. Oh, I don't know, because he can't because he's not a Matt Wrestler Jr. With a bit of branding statement. Here, we were looking at the great bright future of World Championship Wrestling and the athletes who compete in the NWA. Interesting. The future is bright o, that's I guess it is. I'm not gonna argue with it. That's Lucer whipped buying Pilman in and leap frogs over him, ducks and jumps to a crucifix on the one too for Pilman. There another arm drag by Pillman, and wow, is that the Hawaiian shirt guy from me CW there in the crowd in Philly, looking much younger. Wow, pretty yeah, oly Shah, I recognize him for a brief second there they got to a signed let's lose her ayes can't go wrong with that. Wow, that's an old bit of goodie. They call that out of the broadcast. To the corner, Luer digs in a knee and then it starts with that the whole thing. I believe it sounds like like this, sir, sir Talloween having after all. Yeah, you know there's something funny here because Luger's hair when he enters the ring, when he comes down, it's wet, right, it's wet very much. Then throughout the course of the match it dries and then it gets sweaty wet. Are you suggesting there's something wrong with that? I just I just want to put it out there and say, hey, full cycle, think about this, all right, how does this tickle? Does this make you feel funny in your pants? I mean, it's all about food. Secondarily, it's all about hair. It is, it absolutely is all about hair. Hair. Hair is a very very important uh uh uh, you know barometer in this business yes, absolutely, it's hard to look past that. It doesn't really got problems. We got problems, all right. If the hair isn't dialed in, I don't know what's going to happen. I can guarantee you it's not gonna be okay. This match, no matter how good it could be, could come to be defined exclusively by the fact that one guy's hair look ridiculous the whole time, exactly like one one one, not even that it looks ridiculous. That it's unacceptable, all right, And and if it's unacceptable, you know something's gonna go down. Guys they go on locks Man, they take a risk. It's not like everyone's and he's got that stringy, very thin hair. Luger, you know, it's not very pleasant to begin with Corner to corner Irish Whip. But Pilman gets his feet up, climbs the top rope and misses a big splash, and that gets an opportunity for Luger to really pull ahead. Here Jr. Chucks that one up to the great ring presence of one likes Luger brother Irish Whip, and Luger lifts Pilman up and drops him straight down to a Big Pop Luger than hot shots Pilman on the top rope and hits a lariat off an Irish whip. Jr. Says you're looking at the man that will lead wrestling into the nineties, and he knows it and thanks to these guys, we know it too. Four or five times over. Yep. Pilman starts fighting off l whip. Luger kicks him and runs him over again, so Pilman try to fight up from underneath. I believe we hit some Luger lines. Absolutely, Luglar lines, yes, sir, and again this time behind the head clotheslined by Luger and Pilman front flips to sell that one. Yeah, a little much. Luger flexes in the crowd, Pops Big Luger goes off with stomps and pointed elbow drops, and Luger with a great delayed walking vertical suplex. Yes. No, yeah, very good with that on Pilman. Then he does flash and covers for two. Jara thinks that claims that what did you say this before that some Cincinnati Bengals are watching? Oh no, I missed that one the match. No. He says that he pretty much guarantees that and I'm like, how do you know, right, well, if they're not in the room right now, what if? What if? What if they got sick and just didn't want to watch the show. But he makes a very good point that they're watching some of them, not all of them. Right, So you talk about you talk about Luger stepping on Pilman's throat. So that happens, and you listen to j R. J R does his commentary and does his play, I play about it, and then Coddle, inspired by what j R. Says, just goes in a completely different direction. That makes size two seventy four pounds too much. That was not a house on that body anywhere. I didn't see a problem. I just wanted to point it out. I was gonna say, you know, that's Caudal for you. These things he just says, and they just go off in the air. And he's talking about how blind, how how you know he's talking Jared is talking about how bad you know, how devastating whatever he's doing, the Luger is doing to to Pilman, and and Coddle's like, hey, not no, all it's a fat on him, Jim, which means he's but but he's supposed to emphasize how much weight he's putting down on Pil's throat. Not the time to talk about how he has less weight, no no fat exactly like I don't know. I get it. And the low body fat, I get it. Yes, I get it. He's in great shape. I understand. Shane Douglas said to his podcast that Luger used to have a thing where you turn the A C all the way down in the room, uh so that your body has to work, Your metabolism has to work to keep you warm overnight, so you continue to burn fat. Oh man, really, Oh god, ship, I gotta do that, mind. It doesn't really work though. I keep it bullshit freezing in my house. It's like you see a guy who's fucking roided up and he's got a whole series of things. They've always going to do it with steroids that he tells himself makes the difference. But we all know the X factory. I mean, you know you know who's no, you know who's who's who falls into that too. It's Hugh Jackham. When he does a fucking Wolverine movie break when it's an excellent movie, he does some fucking crazy ass ship. He like he he he wants to look tight. Yeah, he's to himself tight. Dehydrates himself like just drinks water a little bit every now and again. No eating nothing, just like you know what, Like that's amazing. Tell we tell ourselves a human body in that state is like the picture of health. When there is no way to look like that without severely depriving yourself of essential hydration and nutrients, it's really not. Okay, No, it's definitely not. You'll drop dead if you're careful. Yeah, complete disaster anyway. Luger low bridges and sends Pilment of the floor. Pilman again fires back up off the ground with a slingshot. Sola Bridge does that? We said Lola Bridget about washing the Italian actress Lola Bridge. Now no, oh low Bridge lower Bridget, Okay, get you No, I was not talking about her. That's the shirt she does not qualify rest in peace to Is that right? So Pilling scrambles back in where the sunset flip gets two on the sling shot lucer comes up missing with a lunging lariat and spills out of the ring. That's a cool spot, Luca trying to keep a lid on Pilman and just lunges at him and swings so haphazardly that he throws himself out of the ring back in. Now Pilman with the corner Mountain countes. Luger walks him out and almost loses him on an atomic drop, but does hit him. Luger than purchase. Pilman up top, climbs up, Pilman pushes him off as a flying sunset flip for two. Whipping flying back elbow lands by Brian Pillman. Air Pilman, now ready to take off, we're told from the top, goes here. He goes, screaming, breaks out as Luger Luca is screaming. Instruction spot calls here between the two. Brian Pillman whipped into the corner, hits a backdrop to the airp and he goes. He's going for that springboard clothes line, and he nails it. He turns Luger inside out. In fact, Luger mums head over heels for him cover one too, but Luca is too close to the goddamn ropes. He puts his foot on the rope. That's right, he is, he listen, he is, he knows where he is at all times in the ring. All right, He's he is a he's a ring general. He generalizes in the ring, and he he knows where you are. He knows where he is, he knows what's going on. That's correct. Hangman's's neck bicker by Brian Pilman. He climbs, he hits a seated missile dropkick off the top rope, and Luger drops on the mist like he was going to sell it. But it works nicely because Pillin pretty much whiffs on the drop kick and sells it like he missed it. But Luger kind of bumps like a hit. It's kind of weird, yep. And then Luger whips him into ropes and Brian Piman leaps into a hot shot, but Luger scrambles to cover after dropping Brian Pillman, who of course had throat surgery as a child and all those issues. Throat first on the trot on the top rope, and that's good enough for the one, the two, and the three. So Lex Luger there with the rug pull on Brian Pillman defeats him in sixteen minutes and forty nine seconds to retain the NWA. United States have Youweight Championship here at Halloween Havoc nineteen eighty nine. Great match for the circumstances they were presented. I think, all things considered, yes, Luger was kind of going off the wrong isisle or something, and Tommy Young grabs him and redirects him on the floor. The next question we we're confronted with here at Alloween Havoc, Will the Road Warriors be the first team to defeat the Skyscrapers? Dan Spivey and Sid's issues And it's true, that is true. And you know Chris Cruz in the back with the Road Warriors and here's Here's Hawks half of the promo, and he makes a weird, a weird claim if you ask me, well, you know, we've been underdogs all our life. Then there's some critics out there, they think we're underdogs tonight. Well, the people out there aren't stupid, they know better. The skyscript, Hey, who builds Billy's ball? People do? Then who tears them down people? Well, we're a couple of people. Got to reduce them to rubble, snack on danger, died on death. Dead men don't make money. What the fuck? He packed a lot more in there than he usually does, Yeah, there's a lot of there's a lot of shit going on with heavy of doozies. Holy shit. That's and after that he gives a rare tell him animal, not tell him hawk, tell him animals, well, because he would that's talk. He can't say, tell him hawk hawk. Well, my point is it always was animals starting the promo. And then he says, tell them yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, wow, this is before that, right, Animal says, a lot of people in our sport today judge themselves and how much they can take by the hands of the road Warriors, not by anybody else, but by the Legion of Doom. They would use Legion of Doom and road Warriors interchangeably back then weird to me. It makes you very very absolutely skyscrapers. You ain't going to change that, he says. Leagion of Doom was like a wider stable. They were a part of right in Georgia with Jake Roberts and Rick Rude. But now they're using it again, which I always thought, you know, when they went WWF, it's just was against road Warriors and wanted to use anything else. Right well, used to be called Legion of Doom. I didn't quite appreciate that they would call the Doom so interchangeable even as individual tag team. I mean, I guess that the sign you can be the Legion of How about this, You could be road Warrior Hawk and road Warrior Animal the Legion of Doom. How about that? How about that? How about that? And we'll do that ninety seven before that, we'll do it this way. They never called them road Warrior Hawk and road war Animal in ninety one, not ninety one, not ninety two. Yeah, ladies and gentlemen, Not until ninety seven when they came back that fucking uh, that raw and I wont fucking bonkers. Oh yeah, when they won the tag titles, Tide the tide was taining no before that, but they were. They just came back at a raw and was like the tide was changing in my September ninety seven, I think, No, that was when they won the titles, but they came back in February. Oh oh what am I saying? Yeah? The title wind was way after that, that's right, The title one was in September. Yeah, they came in. They came into the ECW rod, didn't they. Yes, Yes, that's what, Yes, they did fucking that was coy times. I remember I was sick of a dog on that show. I fell asleep in my couch. I was so sick and I almost fell out of see it like it wasn't real. I watched it on tape the next day. I wore that tape out. That was a unique when they came w wrestling. When they came out, I was just like, oh my god, Like the world is getting back to normal the way it should be. Wow. Yeah, that was a big return for them. That was a coup. That was like, you know, Jeff Jarrett coming back after testing the waters, like, but they fucking like he was was weird, Like they they came back and then they were you know, treated like garbage for a while. And they gave me They had that that great match at WrestleMania that year, but then they just kind of went away until not really went away, but they just they weren't as they weren't building them towards the tag title run. It seemed like, no, no, just a person is right, right, So skyscrapers, here they come, Yes, here they come. Their theme was China White by the Scorpions. Yes, of course, the Road Warriors, iron Man by Ozzie Yep and Paul Ellering in nineteen eighty nine. Looks like Triple H today. Well, that's why I worked for WWE again. Used to read the Wall Street Journal and ship, I like your look good, big fan. We're gonna talk about metrics and content now. The China White by Scorpions does have basically you can hear the Sid Justice WW theme in that song. You can kind of see where it from. Sure ye Sid and Spyvey out. Teddy Long was there manager at the time. There's a there's a fan. There's a fan wearing a hawk mask, which prompts Bob Coddle to ask an idiotic question, Oh my god, yes, Bob, it is Actually it's Halloween havoc. Yeah, we can say that loqually because it's in a couple of days. Yes, you can say it's Halloween. Yes, yeah, it's Halloween. Pal Like, have you not looked around? Have you not remember saying you have a four hundred times already in the broadcast? Do you do you know what month it is? Do you like? Are you are you alive? Is it Halloween already? Hey, Jim, I see a mask? There? Is it Halloween already? Anyone take me home. I don't like trick or treaters, Jim. They make me feel nervous. It's pretty cool. I don't know they were doing Halloween masks that early. Yeah, that's definitely an official w W Hawk. Yes it is, would appear at least from Metropolis by the way, the Skyscrapers put to you by But what what is it? A Fritz Lang or whatever front? Oh yeah, it's long. The Peacock music with the Skyscrapers is so weak in bland and not hard charging at all compared to their original theme. It's a goddamn machine, is what it is. You don't need that. They keep the iron Man though on Peacock. That's weird. I don't know what that's about. It all started in al Japan when they were in a deba with that music, and it was their trademark ever since. Maybe maybe uh maybe Trips was like, you know what, they gotta fucking have that theme. It's this kind of music. Yeah, that's true. They set off some explosions in the aisle for the first time and some sparkles for the road Warriors. Gary Michel Capetta introduces them as the Legion of Doom the road Warriors, hands on their hips at the top of the ramp, waiting all right, well there we go. That's that's it, the lesion of doing the war road Warriors waiting to for the point in the song where they can make the walk, and they do. They have spikes on not only their shoulder pads, Boss, but their shins. Their knees too were spiked. Wow, cuddle, it's a different day, littless. Were the present meets the future here tonight hawk starts running, an animal does too, and they lunge in the face of the of the skyscrapers. Crowds up for this collision of giants. Yes, it was pretty cool thing that going back then, Like you know, yeah, huge motherfuckers. It's not like they were pushing undersized wrestlers relative to w W I heard was all about size two and bodies, and but these guys would actually kick ass. They weren't just you know, bodybuilders doing a colored by the numbers bloated matches. No, no, no, they were good. I mean, listen, there's there, especially this early, this early era of sid there is you know, he's got some he's got something going on, No question, like, there's there's a little more enthusiasm, right, yeah, I mean, you know, Spivey can go away, but his face right, you know, oh, just a whole look like just it's not okay, it's just a just a fucking shit show. He always looks like someone's invading his house. He he always looks like he's invading his own house, like he's got a gun and he's listening to someone rifle through his kitchen. Like he's just a scary scary man. Absolutely is still to this day. If you see him today and shoot interviews, he looks like a fucking serial killer. Oh it's amazing. But when Hawk goes nose to nose with Sid here, that's a moment for Sid. I feel like it's Hawks representing that domineering physical presence and all of a sudden they stepped to sit and it's like whoa. It's a very very intense moment, no question, Jr. Says The Warriors were the first men to wear the paint. It's a tag team, which I thought was interesting because I was like, that's that can't be right. But I'm like, wait a minute, who wore face paint before the road Warriors's think here, Kamala, Yeah, great Kabuki did. Yeah, but as a tag team, I guess he's saying maybe Warriors versus sky Scraper's Halloween Navigating nine the comin event, Animal and Spivey get the match started, Spiby throws some right hands, the whip is reversed, Animal the lariat. Spivey doesn't Budge, however, tries to take Spivey over with another but he doesn't quite make it. Kind of works though, because the scuttle points out normally that takes opponents over. It's much more dramatic that it doesn't. Shane Douglas had kind of decried this. He would say it got to the point where everybody at the top of the card made it their thing that they don't sell. Like one guy, the Road Warrior's not gonna sell, so Sting isn't going to sell, so he's not going to sell. So he's not going to sell because everyone all of a sudden he puts their hand up as people that are of that caliber, you know. Spivey pointed out in several shoot interviews of how underpaid he was relative to Sit at the time and many others, at least from his vantage point because he could go in there and do all the work and make the least amount of money, especially in this match where like the Warriors were like seven hundred thousand or something crazy and Sid was always able to basically name his price with Jim Hurt. So Skyscrappers hadn't been beat at the time, so that was a big intrig coming into the match. Hawk absolutely jacked gets in the ring. Absolutely what a unit. Hawk was, Oh Irish Whipon they collide, Spivey makes the uh the wide eyes when they do. Hawk then flies and drops him with a shoulder block. As JR. Goes on about Dan Spivey being a former Southeast Conference football player, of course, of course he is sign Hawk and Animal, the Lords of Discipline. Okay, wow tactics. Sid looks massive stepping to Hawk massive. Sid was a huge man cute I mean, okay, Jesus, a big mother fucker unbelieva, no question. That's just the bottom line of the loop. The loop. Sid was out of control. Oh yeah, oh my god, oh my god, so cool. What a great figure. Yes, so an Irish whip and Sid hauls off and brushes off Hawk, and Hawk hits him and Sid flails about as the crowd's still going nuts at the possibility might be knocked over. Yep to the corner, Whip to the corner. Hawk then side steps and Sid does a flying shoulder, missing Hawk and crashes into the corner. Buckling Animal comes in and they do a double whip in a double back elbow, putting down Sid. But he pops right back up. Yes he did, no cell. Sid with the hands starts throwing punches, Irish whip and animal ducks and they collide again and animals sizing them up, like, how am I going to approach this guy? Yeah, there's a lot of that. There's a lot of stars. He stops in this match. Yes, okay, well that always works. That didn't work? What do we do now? And I'm sure in their minds it was all a fucking clusterfuck because they didn't want it to come off that way, but it actually worked to me, I agree, I agree, it's it definitely did. Animal keeps trying to tackle and it goes nowhere. Sid then launches Animal, who ducks right, hands to the body now in an Irish whip and a flying shoulder, and Sid bails after being dropped on that one Hawk gets in he presents an option for a test of strength, and Sid, called another man who makes the future of the NWA bright uncommentary, engages into the test of strength. Hawk fights back to his feet as Sid starts to take over in the battle of power, and he fucking monkey flips said vicious I shit you not, Hawk, monkey flips said Viciousness. He does, he does, he absolutely does. I mean, what the fuck was that? Animal comes in the fact that he's on a fucking technical wrestling move like that too is also Luca essentially the Sid of all people. Animal comes in Sid Cox's fist and Nick Patrick grabs the rest like now you can't throw the closed fist. Jerr says, they're a human made of flesh and bones. They just have a lot more flesh and bigger bones. I guess, I mean, yeah, I was gonna say that other guys in the card may have more flesh, but that's this is the kind of thing Jarr is left to be left to saying. When one side of the ring has no collegiate credentials whatsoever to the corner, spy be comes in Nick Patrick Watt's back Hawk to prevent him from getting in without a tag. Animal then reverses his whip and clothes lines down Dan Spivey and wrings out his arm. They tag Hawk and Hawk is uh mix the concern No, no, no, sorry, Hawk is cornered. The tag is made to Sid headlock takeover by Sid and then a head scissor. And the reason he does that is so he his kipup ability. Oh yes he does, Sid kipop, Yes, he fucking does. And you know what, j R. Goes crazy, But you know who loses his fucking would that be Bob God? Look at that kip three twenty and the big guy tip that size. You just can't believe it. He almost he almost had an out of body moment there himself. He did. He really sounds like somebody else. Yeah he did. He almost like sound like j R. Saying. And after that kip up uh. Sid launches a clothes line that drops Hawk. Sid then I have him in a power bomb over the shoulder and springs Hawk around like a helicopter, spins him around over and over like four revolutions before he lets Hawks fly to the canvas. Looks incredible. Jr. Mentioned Sid as a potential future threat to Rick Flair and the Championships and they're not holding back here, not at all, and signaling that Sid's going places. Dan Spivey comes in whipson Hawk and hits a sidewalk slam for two. Jr. Says, very few get two on a road warrior here. Hawk then ducks and runs over Dan Spivey and falls down to the canvas. Spivey gets up in baseball slides Hawk out of the ring to prevent him from tagging Sid then drops Hawk on the guardrail on the outside back in Dan Spivey with a high delayed verticals who play on Hawk gets too. Jr. Says he's never seen a road warrior in this much jeopardy. Sid Irish whips dance Spivey into Hawk in the corner. Hawk drops down and Sid was about to launch and adjusts in mid motion Toneehawk's face because Hawk was not standing up like he expected. And it's actually pretty nimble of Sid because he's up in the air looking for a splash. It is falls to his ass and then he just kind of turns his body and knees him in the head instead. Yep. Hawk fights back and said floors them with the lariat. I have to say I wrote this down and I can't front. This is really kind of awesome. This match is actually fucking wild great, right to be good, but it's good. No, it does not, but it's it's great because it's just like it's not trying to be anything else than what it has, which is just you know, high impact power match between two two massive teams. O and Over thinks anything in this one, and it's a beautiful thing. Yeah, it's about what works at the time. If that's the case, this worked at the time, and the crowd is listen, the crowd is hungry for both. They're hotter for the Road Warriors, but they're they could go either way. They're just tantalized much of the match. Yes, oh yeah, they want it so bad, so bad. Oh geez, Spivey drops Hawk former on and it's really amazing that he didn't get a rocket up his ass. And what's that It's amazing that Sid didn't get a rocket up his ass like me, he was you know, not really. He didn't win any championships during his time before he left for He never won the belt, that's true, not any belt. They put him in position he had Sting the next year, just a year late. They never won a single belt though now he was probably gonna be Vader dar kad ninety three and then the whole fucking drug testing, but that was after he left that that was still he came back from WWA though, like he this initial right, Blair didn't like him, and Flair had powers a lot of the time he was in But like, why didn't he get like a secondary title run? It's a good question, like title, Why wasn't he TV champion, US champion something like that, Like yeah, you know, I I agree, I can't understand, like not putting him in the big one. But the Sting that didn't do that well, but that was Sting's a board of nineteen ninety title reign. Then yes, dad before it's starting. But still he like what bye bye by when he when he joins the Horseman, Like why isn't he given a secondary title? That's good, it's a good question, you know, Like I just don't understand why given given the crowd's reaction to him, and they certainly, you know, listen and push him hard, but they never give him a belt. He never even really feuded for a secondary title in that era off from what I remember, No, no, it's almost like he wasn't gonna get there, so now you can get there till fucking like two thousand or whatever kind of in limbo. Oh geez. So Dan Spivey drops Hock and j are former All Southeast Conference football player for Vince Dooley down in Georgia, the same team as the present coach at Georgia, Ray Goff. They were teammates Dan Spivey and Ray Goff at Georgia. Who that's enough, Jim, respectfully, I really don't care about that connection. So Hawk blocks sup plex attempt, and suplexis Dan Spivey. Spivey's able to tag six. Funny, you know it's funny. You know when you're in college you get cock blocked, but when you're in wrestling and you get hawklaw chop block or chop uh dance. Biby tag Sid who grabs Hawk to stop him from tagging. Animal said to the front face lock as a technician, of course, you know who'll lock that one on. Hawk then lifts it up and makes the tag. Nick Patrick missed it, though, so Animal not able to save the day quite yet stands. Biby does a running barge in the corner on Hawk, opposite corner now and Hawk gets the foot up and fires up with a big clothesline, collapses to the canvas in exhaustion and punishment. Hawk is stammering around and then finally tags Animal, who comes in beats his chest and here we go, Irish whip and Animal with a wonderful dropkick, wonderful dropkick, flying shoulder block face to face with Sid and they start throwing. Oh my god, do they start wind milling punches or what? Just fucking gun boss. Sid starts coming over the top with these huge haymakers. It's wild, man, It is pure four brawl. Whip is reversed animal power slam Sid. Teddy E Loong gets in the ring with a with a gimmick. He's got a big ass key, right, A big fucking key he's got, I guess that's what he had. He had a key like you unlock something with. But it's like a jumpbo I mean, like a key to like the key to the city, like the ceremonial thing. I don't remember the backstory here he nails Paul Ellering with it because Paul Ellering tries to get in to stop Teddy Long from interfering and then Teddy nails Paul and throws the key to dance Bivey, who hits Hawk with it, but in plane view of the referee, So we do not get a clean finish here. No. Eleven minutes, thirty nine seconds, the Road Warriors defeat the Skyscrapers by disqualification. You can call this the Skyscrapers first loss, but of course you had to. But they didn't get pinned. They didn't get pinned. So Hot climbs to the top rope to a pop and nails Dance Bivey with the key and that goes. The key goes flying in and nails dance Baby and the and the crowd is just nuts, unutreal. They are going completely bonkers from that. They're not mad about the DQ either, really, Nope, nope, because when you let wild men be wild man, it's it's something the crowd accepts might happen. And back in the day it's like, you know again, a disqualification was still a victory. What a spectacle this was. Nick Patrick raises Hot totally solid stuff, good stuff, really good by these by these two teams. Very unexpected, you know, this is you would expect this to be a complete disaster. But they really clicked turn our attention out of the main event Halloween. Ha indeed cruises with Sting, Ric Flair and only Anderson. Indeed only in all black including the suspenders. Oh what are you a black scorpion? Yeah, a little bit of foreshadowing. You see this toll wrapped around my arm about ten times. There's no way the cruise. You better get ready, Gary Hart. This toll is gonna be like blue on my right arm when I get out there. The only thing I'm gonna be doing is watching Sting and Flair knock the crap out of mister Muda and Terry Funk. Get ready because your toe is going to be dropped in that rig. I guarantee, Rick Flair, are you willing to risk CRUs You're in professional I'm amazed the Here's how it goes. This is the fund and though this is the big time, This is the national rest of the lives and and Rick Clair stand for a cause tonight and the cost is the end of Terre Funk. Yeah, the great Muda. He looked the five yes, ten thousand people, yes, nationwide, Yes, tonight, fucking Muda who play their news right stands Halloween and guess what, it's gonna be full of hammock. It's gonna be different because we're talking something different than a regular wrestling match, and I love to be different. You know that Halloween hammock and electricity. It's just seconds away now, Nata boy, right man here we are on now live in Philadelphia, could have done nutsting. Yes, it does sound like he's saying hammock. I do the same thing, Halloween hammock like good time for a hammock. Be engaged. It's gonna be full of hammock, he says, yeah, it's gonna yeah, you take a nap. I'm fine. So bad, it's so bad. It's bad. It's not gonna sucked at I was back then, and that's part of why the title reign was doomed, honestly, because he couldn't carry it on that side. He didn't have the promo skills and it turned a great promo. I mean, Jesus Christ, he's on the best interviews in the business in the past. A year before he retired, I know I didn't hear him. I just you know, he was great in TNA. I didn't like him in w W. I didn't like him in w w I'm the only time I've ever liked him as a promo is in TNAH. That's the only time he ever did good promos. That's why I mean the guy, the guy said two words for eighteen months and was the biggest star in the business. In Shad I'd be just sitting there. But yeah, it's it's uh to the main. They didn't get a I'm suppose they didn't get a talker to him for him, like during that championship, just like Babyface manager. Yeah, you know, like let him be this fucking silent badass, you know. Yeah, wrestler chance I heard was so patterned after w WF. He probably just saw a warrior and just said we'll do that or Hogan will do that. Pretty wild like the fucking Blade Runners. Both ended up on top of the respective companies for the nineties and then I know, well at the same time too, like they were champion of the same fucking timera. They were pretty much done at the same time. Yep, by the end of nineteen ninety. It's like, I guess those guys won't carry us in the nineties because you're into the fucking decade and already we're going back to Flare and Ogan. It's pretty funny, Garret Michael Copetta. Now this is the time for the thundered Dome cage match. The one man considered capable by the NWA in officiating. Here he comes, the living legend. Camera totally misses him until he gets to the This is the The camera operators for this match are complete. Well, I shouldn't say the camera operators, it's the the director of this is a complete. It's Keith Mitchell and Craig Leathers, like just a complete. I don't know what the fuck he was watching, Mister Frankensteiner. It's unforgivable you miss a Frank. But also there's so much that's missed in this match alone. Yeah, they're not ready to cover, like this structure and everything. Nice popper, Bruno, but not the kind of pop war It's like, Wow, this guy moved a single ticket. I can't tell you how tickled I was when you were reading that article in the Pittsburgh postcause Ada and Bruce had laps at the suggestion I'm not selling it to you know. If they believed in that, it's not because Bruno sold him on it. That's for damn sure. Yeah, I also love too. You know, it wouldn't be Bruno if he didn't fucking jog to the ring. I know, doesn't he He's outfit, looking spry. It's like he's no better than Verne Gagney. At this point, Gary Hart one of the designated terminators. But we established that in the Lembal Tragedy. Is that the years ago it comes the Pearl of the Orient. Who the fuck is the guy with him? Mister j Aka Kazuo Sakarata. He was also a master in the j Tex score. Okay, is he dead? I don't even know who the fuck? Nobody he's dead? No, let me see nobody listed? You know who he was and any Yeah he died. I was reading about it all right, there he is. So I'm sixteen now as to win in chi Bad, Japan at the age of seventy one. Kazuo Sakuratakata, Yeah, I think he was. He was more well known his Dragonmaster and j Tex Corp. And he had this weird thing where he was mister Jay and he'd walked backwards almost like Gary Hart is covering Muda from the front. Right. Well, it's almost like you know he hired him to make sure that Gary Hart had eyes all around. It totally tracks with the Gary Hart thing. It totally does. Yep. Here he is with the television championship and the red head covering, with mister Jay walking backwards, moonwalking essentially behind him the Great Muda, Gary Hart sizing up the right and left side of the aisle. Bob Coddle has some feelings about the Thunderdome cage. Jim, unbelievable thunderdome much elect for five fence around the cage. I've never seen it. I've never heard of it, and I'm apprehensive. I'm very apprehentive about So he's never seen it, he's never heard about it, even though they've been talking about it for two and a half hours. Well even Yeah, and also it's been overhead. Yeah, just look up the entire night. That is not something in his usual repertoire looking up. It's usually looking the other way. I've never seen it. I've never looked at it. I've never heard about it. I don't know where we are, Jim, that is apparent. Kerry Hart presents. You're damn right, he does. Does you have to look at the look on his face while he comes down the aisle. There's a moment where he just kind of puts his hand out to stop Great Muda from walking past him. Just yes, subtly he puts his hand and moota his belly to stop him. And he is looking and he is He's not trying to get the crowd to fight him. He's not scowling in anybody. He's just aware what just an absolute phenomenon of the human head is on a swivel. And I gte you to look into his eyes. I can't see the things he's seen. I can't. I can't. It actually is too terrifying to look into his eyes. And he was sitting right across the table from you, just looking at you, just not even and and and for some reason, it's like he's he's just lit wherever he goes, he's lit like a film noir. Oh my god, of course he is. You know, so many shadows only his eyes are showing. And yeah, yeah, I mean listen, I imagine that if you're in his presence, you don't feel safe? How could you? How get you what he wants? It? No, you shouldn't feel safe with someone like that in your presence. He's the kind of guy that, like you feel even more under siege if he befriends you. Oh yes, it's a mobster, you know. Yeh. Like, oh god, exactly, Oh my god, Like what the fuck did I get myself into? Oh ship, No, people say I'm a bad guy. I'm not a bad guy at all. I'm just a guy that bad things happened ry, and bad things happen around, and bad things happened from unbelievable. They're moving like the Secret Service surrounding Great Moody. Yes, and of course our hero from the Double Cross Ranch in Canyon, Texas. He would come out to Laom Harmonica by Ennyoon Marconey. How do you know him? Anon Morecon may know him? Do I know him? He's only one of the greatest film composers of all time. He comes and ladies and gentlemen as such a data terminator Harry Hart also he presents from the Double Class branch in Canyon, Texas. He weighs two hundred and forty seven towns. He is the former well Chevy German. Oh Bob is can't here. I'll tell you that right now, and that Harmonica is searing that Yes, that uh uh. That song Man with the Harmonicas is the name of the song. It's from Once upon a Time in the West, Coming soon to serious because of that or no, no, no, there's a bigger reason. It's fucking huge. Oh yeah. The peacock version just plays like a lame whistle from the wild West. It's so depressing. Of course, how awesome was that entrance. It makes him seem like he he's walking out of like a haunted saloon. Yeah, of course, I mean, listen, there is no there is no composer that is going to make you feel like Anio morricon the Funker. Yeah, very nice thing to tuck into your lapsed funk journey that this happens to fund. Indeed, And it's Sting and it's nineteen eighty nine, so it's Kang Kang Kang Kang Kang Kang Kang Kang Kang. It's like his version of I have at Tiger totally is wrestling fans. This is Sting. The only guy you had to say wrestling fans before you introduced him. This is is enough of a prelude, I know. So he steps out in yellow boots with black pants and the neon scorpions printed on him and neon face paints, kind of bouncing around like a tool, sting. I don't know what he's going for here. Well, I mean yeah, waitually you know he is kind of a tool. Before the match starts, like someone said, show energy, Steve, and this is what he does. High fives all the way down the aisle from the stinger. Well on his way here at nineteen eighty nine. And there's no door in this thing. The announcer's note the cage. No, no, you have to climb to get in, right, No, he just comes. They have it up on the ceiling. That's right, that's right, Yeah, of course you can't climb it lower down. Yeah, electrified the roof slope. So, yes, the Rock Olie Anderson is the designated terminator for the Baby Fair we go. We can never forget that. He's the original rock, Dwayne, the Rock Oly Andrews. Well, no, also the rock Don Morocco. At this point, I don't know when Ole adopted the rock. I think he did do it after Don Morocco. I think it was at late eighties. Thing, I actually know that, I think about it. Okay, so here comes a flair I don't know what music this is? Is this two thous This would be Aaron Copland's fanfare for the common Man? Really that plays first? Yes, Flair did come down to this a couple of times, but it's funny. It only plays at the beginning and then they get into the two. It is weird. You'd think fan fare for the common Man would be Dusty Rhodes. So exactly, that's a good one. Pyro burst for Flair. He steps out, resplendent in his barkly blue robe. Yes, dee dee dee dee dee, me mean someone playing someone playing taps. Let's got to get a similar vibes. Sure, So the beautiful, resplendent, blue sparkling robe for the nature boy. Horn Sounding Jr. Notes no beautiful woman around Flair is normal tonight the party will be after this one's over. Jr. Says Gary Hart has to lose because he makes his living off productivity of Muda and Funk. So yeah, he has a lot. That's productivity. Muda and Funk are out there being productive because they got hurt in this match. It's bad for Gary Hart's wallet. Flareds robes we see the big gold belt. Jr. Calls it the best, the biggest cage erected ever for a pro wrestling event, which is a similar way they played. You know, the elimination chamber is very similar elimination chamber with all the videos of you know, the welding and everything and the hell in the South for that matter. Uh and Gary Mechlcopetta as they lower the thunderedome cage talks about how there will be no time limit, notice qualifications and the match will continue until respective terminator throws in the towel. Jr. Talks about Bruno fifty three full history lessons the cage kids arranged here and as as the cage drops, they play kind of like the sound of a heartbeat and breathing and growling, and that is definitely Holy Anderson's voice. It's a it's a horror thing, after all, sure is Uh sounds like black scorpion growling, which is also Olie's voice. Yes, apparently Bob Cottle saved all the good stuff for the end here, So this is this is what he fucking says regarding the cage. I've got a direct just to you because I want to make avoid right here now that cage is electrified there's a lot of things I'm not fond of one. I'm's electrician. I mean, what the fuck, Bob? I mean, you know you don't say that. I actually have heard that about him. He does prefer like the colonial days. He prefers like candle lit. Uh. You know, he doesn't like electricity. What you fear? Things you don't understand, right, Bob coddle one of the things I'm not There's a lot. I also again, I've got a direct just to you because I want to make a boid right here. Now that cage is electrified, there's a lot of things I'm not fond of. One i'm's electrician. Bob. You're damn right, there's not There's a lot of things you're not fond of, that's for sure. All right. We know that for a fact, there are a lot of things that you are not fonding he says like he says that, like he always talks about what he's not fond of. O once mentioned anything petrified of electricity? Did you hear Oli in the background? Play it again. I've got to direct this to use because I want to make a boid right here. Now that cage is electrified, there's a lot of things on I'm electricity, him doing his uh whatever, his fucking he says, an idiot, give me the got microphone. I'll do it. Okay, So the cage starts lowering. So stew here's the ship blue bars shpum piece of ship can put the voice effect off when he goes off in the studio. How about that? How about the blue bars in WCW. You can't say I love it. Well, it's not really blue though, but you mean like the wide in the shape, the gaping. I mean, it's not the first time we've seen it. It's it's been there. We've seen it several times. Actually, it's very you know, this is the cage they used for the the the Capitol Combat Cage match with Luger and Flair, And they also used this cage in and Halloween having ninety seven Flair with a Hogan and Savage. Hogan, No Hogan and Piper. Oh it, Savage comes off the top or was it ninety eight? Maybe I don't know, ninety seven Hogan Savage, but Piper ninety seven. That's right, it's ninety seven because then that's when they had like everyone in the sting mask and stuff, right, Halloween Havoc ninety six wasn't a cage match, No, no, it was a straight man what they called the Hogan Piper match age in the cage. Oh I remember that. Yeah, that's the way you want to fucking get your match over. So Michaels had come off the side of the cell and all that he'd done, the crazy shit and hell in the cell. So yep, Savage comes out and jumps off the top to try to mean something double axe handle. It was crazy that he did that. I think he fucked his knee up too doing that. Sure he did. So they keep saying terminator, I keep looking for a fucking Arnold Terry funk Lean and me and Jr. Says, these men are not thinking it tomorrow. Muto was undefeated at the time. It takes forever for the cage, but it is dramatic the way they drop it. I will give them that, sure, Sure, And suddenly we realized that this cage has more to it. There's sparks flying off the top like someone's welding up there in real time. And what's this, all of these things, all this Halloween efemera hanging on the wall. There's a big slope roof and there's gargoyles in the corner. You can't see him too well, but they're there. And they never do a shot to like let you know that they're there. They really do not. It's so so fucking stupid. I bet, I bet if this whole thing didn't go awry with the fire, that they would have never shown the full cage. It's just the camera shots would have all been in the cage, and you would have missed all the the accouterments that they spent so much energy and money on. What's wrong with that? You don't need to see the show? See like brown webbing, which is basically the burlap sacks that keep getting mentioned when people reflect on this thing, and with the branches they put fucking timber, they put kindling up there, Basically it looks like to me, yeah, yeah, I mean they're like, let's see how let's see what we can do. Let's see if we can set this thing on fire. How cool would that be if we could set this fucking thing on fire as much flammables up there as we can. Funk is climbing and pulling on the wall like a gorilla, like a crazed gorilla caged animal. So this is where Funk does a split between the fence and the ropes of the of the ring for no reason, just standing there, just straddling both surfaces. And then and then suddenly they cut. They let they pan up, and you see real flames. You see real flames yep. And you can see people frantically among them punching it out yep. And they look very frantic. It's crazy. And Mood is looking on and Funk is still climbing around, and finally mood It decides to get up in the corner and hit the flaming surface with his green mist and it puts it out. It's the damnedest thing. It works, and we continue from there. It's made event time and Halloween had it really funny. It's really funny that that is the that actually does put it out, and he does it like as if like just fucking let me handle this, right, are sick of standing around waiting for this to be over? Mm hmm. So the crowd, well at least the crowd was only figuratively on fire on this night, although, like Tommy Young said, someone got it on their dress. So brother exactly made event time Halloween, have a kidding in the Thunderdome cage, Rick Flair and Sting versus Terry Funk in the Great Mudha. Buddha goes up and hits it with the green mist, and Coddle said he saw someone with a fire extinguisher out here and talked about becoming prepared. What an apparatus? Jr. Observes, Oh, my god, talking about apparatus, Jim, But what about the cage? Jr. Calls out a guy with a handheld handheld inside. Oh yeah, he's given cameras right to the cameraman who has to be inside the ring to shoot this thing because it's so chaotic. But fortunately it's not one of those cages that go right up to the ropes, So having a cameraman in there is fine because he can just walk around the floor. Yeah, you have to be in the actual ring. Yes. Flair and Funk start us off as nineteen eighty nine n w A's it gets hard, headlocked, tackle Flair with some chops. I mean, also, let's fucking have a cage match where there are rules, you have to do legal tag. No, it's so stupidly, what's anybody gonna do? What's burna gonna. It actually kind of reminded me of my of my Hasbro universe, where I would yet I had, I had Demolition would always be in a feud with to the Cops figures, you know, like the oversized g I Joe's two characters from that. There was like a just an ongoing feud forever and all their matches, whenever they would have a match, they would start off like a regular tag match, and they would always just evolve into a wild, blood soaked, just brutal brawl happens here this, Yeah, exactly, it's exactly. That's what you reminded me of that because it's like, this is like exactly what I used to do with the with these two teams, Like they would always start off with a traditional tag match, but then something would happen and it would just turn into a complete lust your fuck phenomenal. Yeah, that's the thing about this match. It's kind of what you would do if you were playing a cage match with your toys as a kid. Yeah, it's kind of how crazy you would make everybody go. And yes, tackle between Flair and Funk and then Flair hits a chop. Big time intensity between these two, Funk is whipped into it, chopped by the stinger as well. There's word at the time, and you know, of course, Gary Hart, we had the T shirt. I was never really impressed by sting. What is it? Oh yeah, yeah, something like that. I never really took sting seriously, is what he says. Yes, yes, because there was a word that Sting once flat out refused a job to Terry Funk, which was a problem. So Flair comes in and bates Muda in and Mudha all in. Red Jay recalls Terry Funks nineteen seventy five NWA title win, and Bruno is able to stop things from getting out of hand where it looks like a pier for four is about to come on, come on, come on. We see that there are chains hanging from this thing as well, like an alternative Rockers wallet. Almost yeap, walk up and Funk slams Rick Flair. Flair comes up chopping though he slams Terry Funk as well. How about that, boss A Rick Flair body slam not something you see too often, not at all. Flare tosses Funk right out of the ring with a body slam, just fucking launches them, drops them on the concrete. Yep, yep, fucking done. So there's some room to maneuver at ringside, like a hell in the cells. So keep that in mind as you're visualizing this. Rick Flair with a hot shot on Terry Funk out of the ring apron tagged to sting. He throws Funk out of the ring and it is battering, ramming him into the cage like a kind of like the Kevin Ashlan Dart deal. Sticks Funk's head through one of the the Oh my god, this funk hang there for a second like he's been fun. Of course he does, of course he does. Listen, he's he's gonna do. Hey, what why don't you go ahead and put me through the thing? Match? And ste why don't you go ahead? Hey, Steve, Steve, goozle me with the steel. Paul should go ahead and pick me up and goozle me with the bars. All hang there for about fifteen minutes. See if I can't pass out. Some funk does hang there for a second. Then it comes out swinging wild at Olie Anderson. He doesn't give a fuck ah who's in the crosshairs. I feel like uh, I feel like Terry Funk would hate Olie Anderson. They got along all along. Yeah, I mean he booked him strong in Georgia and uh Terry Verry nusty one for him, Yeah, all right. He just seems like somebody that Terry Funk would like that goddamn piece of ship. Only only didn't have trouble with people that preceded him. It was people that he first saw as Jabroni's like Flair become stars that he could never accept. He can never accept that somebody that he once saw is too green to be worth anything blossomed into some of the biggest money makers in the business. That pissed him off, asshole. But if he came before him, he had tremendous respect for you, like he was. He genuflected towards Verne to the day he died, exchanging phone calls about how you know what happened to the business until they were in the fucking grave. Back In tacked a Flair double whip in a double back elbow and the baby he faces. Funk gos to the corner and the next and Flair chops the hell out of him. Flair drops knee Golden Rick Flair knee drop here. Yes, yes, it comes up from the kneedrop and slaps Great Mooda, and that gets a big rise out of the crowd. That one two punch from the nature Boy. Muda comes in kicking and goes for flair for a second and Sting holds his chest open and chops him hard. Jarr says, you can can you hear that? The competitive nature of the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championships. God, I know that chop signal signals sets them off competitive competitive bullshit. Exactly time for a branding statement. There is no one else like this, he says. And we appreciate the fans supporting pro wrestling wherever it may be. It's great sports entertainment, but none of it is as physical as this. Wow, he said sports and he did. They said it a lot said on the pre show for this as well. I remember they were, yeah, definitely using the phrase Sting comes in and drop kicks down Terry Funk and Jerr recalls a member of the Blade Runners was Sting and how his partner has not progressed like this kid has. That is a fucking great knock. That. Oh here, I got that one for you. That's a really fucking it's awesome. The youngster from Benness Beats California started out as a member of a team called the Playing Run has not progressed like this kid has tremendous. He's the champ on the other on the other channel. Yeah, in a continental champ eighty nine. Yeah, true, and he would be the champ on the other channel Visa VI Sting Yes, Funk comes in giving Bruno shit. Muda steps in and steps two Sting and Sting goes off with right hands and then a high lift on the gorilla press and drops him Ontitary fund and the crowd absolutely loses it when Sting does that. Oh yeah, absolutely, no question. The big vertical suplex now from the Sting run great mood attack to Rick Flair, snapmre and he peppers him with punches and Flair now with the inverted atomic drop on Mudah j rss. Flair trained with Chris Taylor, who was the Olympian that wrestled out of Minneapolis underburn. Sure, sure and all that shit. Flair who played football two sixty wrestles at two thirty five to forty and no one is in better condition. Jr. Assures this, No, no, that's that's for sure. Flare with the kne drop tack to Sting, Yes to the floor. Sting puts Muto into the wall. Hard camera shows just the edge of the top of the cage with the webbing and what yet, But you can't see the slope top on the hard camera, you know, kind of like a true North shot. Sting Now puts mood. Can hear Gary Hard saying moota, I know, Yeah, he's got a diferent way pronouncing it, doesn't he Yeah. Sting Now puts Muda's head in the hole and shakes him back and forth in the cage wall. Flair and Funk mix it up on the floor. In the ring, Muda starts throwing on Sting and Funk attack. Sting from the apron shouts get up after every shot, Oh my god, go to the snap mare in the big time snap elbow. It's only Greatmoda could deliver it for the business. Thank you very much. Any hit certain, Yeah, good? Get out? What about it? Well? No, just just well. Jr asks how the smash can go long? And I'm like, well, Jr. It's the longest match in the car pal like you tell me, I don't know if no one throws the towel in what times? I mean Also, it's you know, twenty minutes, you know, longer than any other match. There's a one match where the actual participants in the ring don't have a lot of say so as to when it ends, right exactly, this is what you will probably just gamble, which again you kind of sit there and wonder. You know, I might as well just kind of take a rest, Like if you know, I have no control over the outcome of the match, I might just take a name. I might spend some time trying to negotiate with a towel holder more than beating the shit out of anybody right running late drop off the corner. By how fucking how fucking amazing would that be if in a in a towel match, instead of actually wrestling, the two competitors go to their opposing and they just like, sit down, let's have a chat, all right, And they fucking sit down and start negotiating, and all it is is is a conversation. Like you just cut back and forth between the two conversations. Someone throws the towel in, and some of those talent who's got a single, not a single wrestling move, he's got the nuts to book it. That's what you do if the thunder rum cage is on TV. Yes it's on a nitro or dynamite or something, and you get Vin Thrusso booking. Well, that's true too, but I think there's a way to do it where it wouldn't be seen that way. Sting to the floor, Mooda lunges at Flare Flunk. Flair comes in and grabs him by the throat. So Flare with an aggressive streak here mm hmmm Funk. Oh yeah, he's very aggressive. Terry Funk absolutely standing on Sting's neck on the floor In case you were one of oh Flair chops Muda. Funk steps in and throws him into the wall. Great intensity now on display from all four. The announcers talk about how much they all hate each other. Back on Mooda now with a great high vertical suplex on the Stinger. Funk comes in and drops a knee and they drop elbow after elbow on Sting. I love that. Piling on the double team offense in a steel cage environment. Flair comes in, Chops, I do too. I like that a lot, totally. Yeah, it makes so much sense, Like there's nowhere to hide, So there's no reason to pace ourselves. Let's just pour on the punishment. Yep, yep, targets Funk now does Flare. Flair hits a suplex on the funk Er, Sting ducks a head kicked by Muda and bulldogs them gets high up in the air on it. One for Terry Funk as well from the stinger that bulldog were Instead of a you know, hugging the head, he just grabs the back of the head like a handful of hair and sits down. Ah. That's a no mercy, isn't it. That That? Yeah? Yeah, that well, that yeah, that kind of facebuster type bulldog thing. Flair with the atomic trop on Muda full steam into a sting clothes line and then Sting steps through and puts the scorpion deathlock on him on a great mooda but Terry Funk lunges in to break it up. Uh. Terry Funk hits up in the apron and talk ship to Flair and then Uh does something at him. Flair then chops him and they both end up climbing the wall of the steel cage. Yeah. For no particular reason. It's so stupid, Like, what are you doing, and Flair rams Fun his head in and stings suplexes Muda in the ring. Funk collapses off of the wall and gets his leg up on the way. Yeah, I'm gonna damn it. Oh my god, I went ahead put myself on the tree a whole on the page. Flair match like this, he can do, he can make that sensical. I got me out of this goddamn thing. Back back, back back? Did you record did you record road record last night? But did you record my episode of swamp thing I heard over the top was on last night? Did you get it back? Did you record it on sp awesome? That's an insight only we have. That's that's a I know. Yep, you got all those tapes? How we how are we progressing? Oh yeah, there, I've been digitize everything that that we have of of the of the of the Terry Funk personal collection from the Estates. You know what. Interesting by the way, uh, they actually didn't have the final episode of the wild Side. They had copy like you know they had there were seven video cassettes, but two of them were doubles and there were six episodes, and so I actually had ended up having to get the final one off eBay, Yeah, because that that would have been like a brook nosed best fucking treasure. Yeah, no, I wasn't letting that happen. I need all of them. So but yeah, I get all the episodes of wild Side, you know, digitized and all the Yeah, I just taped everything, just put everything out there. Have a whole Terry Funk collection, our tribute to the Funker. More to come on that front. Yep, soe Funks now tried up in the Tree of Woe on the cage wall, Muda climbs close to the electricity and Sting follows why Muda was going up there? We absolutely do not know, No, And this is that one moment in the whole match where they make reference to the cage being electrified. Mota puts his hand up and sells it immediately like the coils, like his hand was stung by electricity, and he and he does it for like I said before, he does it for a while, and it really makes me think that that it actually he actually got discharged. Yeah yeah, and it's like, why why are you really doing that? They probably just needed something to set off sparks, you know, they probably had to introduce an element like that, get some fucking pyro things and just have him go off one time, like you don't need to touch you don't actually have the shit beat. It's fucking idiots. Jr. Says they could see flying earlier. Maybe it isn't. Maybe it isn't, you know, maybe it isn't actually for I don't know, it just it was as Funk talked about how the match called for them to go up there a couple of times and get stung by the find those balls and it would go off. And I wonder if Mudu was just like, this is I'm supposed to do this at some point in the match. Let me just improvise here. Yeah, yeah, maybe that's how it came off to me. Funk just constantly climbing and rattling the cage, and yet somehow it all makes sense because he's a nut. He's yeah, he's just like he's just constantly like, hard, lem try this. I might as well go ahead and try this instead. Oh shit, right, I'm stuck lots of ooze at this point. Yeah, oh yes. Flare tracks Funk down by the ankle off of the cage while Flair and Funk now climbing fast Funk is into the corner, not selling any electricity. Terry Funk. Funk is now hanging from something up there, and Flare is chopping him. The gargoyle is in the way, and Funk gets a knee tied up and Flair grabs there's a tarz end rope up there. Yeah, and fucking Sting grabs Claire does it first. He grabs the tars end rope and starts swinging around. For some reason he does. I don't remember that first. Wow, it's not as dramatic as how Sting uses it, but he does grip it. Sting Gorilla presses delay and drops Mooda in the ring. Funk hung upside down, not coming out of his snot coming out of his nose. They get a nice tight shot of that. Oh, they do get that. And you can't get fucking Sting using the tarz en rope, but they fucking get a handful of boogers there by the with the Terry Fox. I'm thinking of a foreshadow of fully with the tooth of his nose and hill and a cell. That's true. That's true. So yes, he's near that swing rope and Bruno at this point. Also, he's got blood in his referee shirt. Oh really, I don't know who they have reference to it. They might have been Muda's face paint, because there were someone Stings back as well. So Funks now dangling there with his feet kicking for no reason, and Mudah slips under the ring and Sting comes with the tars end rope. Now Funk was trying to climb the gage again, and Sting swings across with the tar's end rope and kicks Funk on the cage wall. And here's the best part. Not once he swings three times, and not once does the director cut to the camera. There is a guy in the wide shot. You can see there is a camera guy directly under both Sting and for the great shot, and they never cut. Guys, like, are we fucking idiots? This is it? Like? This is this is the stuff you want to get because it's so unique. Yeah, it's only in this match. Awful production, absolutely awful production in that regard. Love it, good stuff, good stuff. I didn't catch that. So Flair and Mood are exchanging chops on the floor back and Flare with the back suplex on the Great Buddhists. Sting is on the rope and kicks Funk on the wall. Swinging around again, Flair puts the figure four in great moodha Sting with another swinging drop kick, this one right to Terry's crotch as he's trying. He's trying to land this Tarzan swing with some impact, and he's just having a difficult time making it look convincing. I why don't you go ahead and kick me? Do Ken Steve hit me in the right here in my fucking dish. Rick Flair then climbs the ropes and moodas sneaks up behind him and smacks him with a toughens a green cap and then Sting this is another tarzan swinging and crosses himself. Oh Jesus on the base. Funk, now looking at hogtie, stings legs at the cage bars is mood a grapevind flares legs in the ring and stops down and then does that bridge over chinlock with the legs grapevine. Olie Anderson at this point comes over to help Sting, who's tied up against the cage wall. Great, that's what we all need. Funk knows how to hog tie, and I guess I guess that knows how to outdo him from the Wisconsin dairy Farm days Jr's is Terry Funk West Texas half hitch and a huy on Sting's leg that's a pair. Excuse me. A huey is a not used to tie down roping in when you tie calves legs together, I guess on the ranch, and a half hitch isn't another term for the same thing. I don't know. So a funk can mood do a stuffed pile driver on Rick Flair, who lets out the gods sell on that one, going back to you know, calling back to Flair's neck and game from Russell War Yep. A Sting then is stuck and can't get free from the cage wall and only is working like hell to get him undone. Finally he does, and Sting climbs back to the wall and then to the ropes and leaps from the cage and levels Funk, who lays there dead. What a fucking sick ass? So excited was The Sting doesn't just jump from the ropes, he jumps from the cage end of the ring cage yep. And it's like you know it, it's a it's a it's a hell of a jump, it really is. It's a That's the thing about Sting. He was he had the best vertical leap of any wrestler I've ever seen. Yes, ever, I just maybe you know, like an ospre or a ricochet, but I just I could never believe how much ground this guy could cover. Well because he's a bigger guy. Yeah, you know, it was like two sixty two seventy and he's making leaps like that. Fucking hell. It's so exciting because it's the kind of thing somebody would do if they were really desperate and they and they had eyes on somebody to kill Rick, and like the only way they could get to him in time is to jump like this, right, because otherwise it's gonna be you know, by the time they get there, they climb down and whatever it'll be, you know, who knows. So he levels Funk, and Funk lays their dead. Sting it's a huge pop cut. Oh he comes up beating his chest rose on Mudah. What a climb to Now they're trying to vault the tilted part of the cage that slope. J Jr. Says he maybe a fried wanton. Yeah, I got that one who locked it. I guess go to the land of the Rising Sun right now. He may be Fried Wanton if he gets all of that tong very strongly, which it must be dinner time for Jim Number one. Wantan is Chinese. Of course, the equivalent would be Fried Guioza for the Japanese equivalent. So I guess, keep up your fucking racism, j R. Piece, what a time when America was America and there is no difference between China and Japan, right the walkman was a technology any any any uh, that's kind of funny, the walkman. W okay, think of that? That was awesome. Bock uh. But you know, like any Asian you know, East Asian country is pretty fucking the same thing. Like it's like, you know, it all the same. Well, this is, of course, is the business where Hawaiians and Polynesians were, right, of course Japanese Japanese. Yeah, but you know, at least get your fucking food right, all right, Jay, Now these guys are all the way up at the top of the cage, just as JR. May specious reference to, and no one's selling being electrified at all. So I don't know what's going on now. Maybe I don't fucking know, you know, maybe maybe Moda is that good, Maybe he's that fucking good of an advis I don't know. Flair with a shin breaker on Terry Funk in the rings, and now Flair is starting to attack the leg of the Funker and that's going to lead to our finish. Now Mooda's in the corner of the cage with his back to it, and Sting comes up after him. Flair drops and needed a leg a Terry Funk who tries to stand up but can't. No one gets up and collapses better than Terry Funk. Oh, I totally agree. No, there's a leg that's just not supporting his weight and he's not ailing, but he's so tough he's still trying to stand that he just can't. Flair then drags the leg to the rope and sits down on it. But no, here's Muda. Flair chops him. These guys keep making the trip up and then down to how many time? So they go up this cage wall for no reason. There's no reason to go up there at all. In fact, there's one hundred percent disincentive to go up there with the electricity Muda then stops Sting with a spin what's going on? Spin kick? As he re enters the ring front back breaker by Muda. He climbs, but Muda gets crotched. Camera misses it though, as Sting crotches him, Jr. Says, if they have a boys choir in Tokyo, great Mooda will be a tenor flare with the backsup blex and a figure four applied now on the Funker. And what do you do? What do you do when you're in a violent cage scenario? What do you do in a talloween you have it in the thunderdome? What do you do when you've got your foe in the throes of a crippling leg hold? But you just need to put a little extra punishment on him to try to convince their corner to throw in the towel. You climb the top rope and you splash Funk repeatedly if you're Sting over and over again while he's trapped. Yes, Terry Funk convulsing in the Sting goes up again and Muda comes in Hassle's Bruno. We don't want to see until the replay. Yeah, that Mooda step to Bruno always see his All of a sudden, Bruno is absolutely cold cocking the great mooda he is, he's fucking decking, takes a wonderful pump out of the ring, selling for the a bruisy strong man. Funk is grabbing Bruno by the shirt, trying to find a way out of this predicament. We see Oli Anderson get in the ring as Gary Hart did and only absolutely nails gary Hart cuts him off yep, and as Olie lands on Heart who ends up, you know, hanging in the ropes like spider man. Gary Hart's towel goes soaring in the air and lands across the back of Bruno Satino and Bruno can feel this towel on his back. Well Oi, it was also like right, no shortage of indication, such a fucking reaches on his back and realizes Gary Hart's towels on it, because you can see it's not older got the towel, it's the club, the towel from the club, or the bell there. It is twenty three minutes, forty six seconds. Rick Flair and Sting defeat Terry Funk in the Great Muda in the Thunderdome as Bruno. Sammartino realizes that Gary Hart's towel is on his back and that is it. They disentangle Flair from Funk and the bell sounds. Bruno raises both hands, Sting and Flare take a moment trying to figure out what to do next. The cage begins to raise. Kyle says, looking like Gary through the towel by accident, So they're already trying to mitigate that finish. Leave things open, and the replays where you really see that Muda just jumps in the ring and tries to assault Bruno and that's what led to the big right hand, which looks great by the way, Oh yeah, totally, And they show a slow mall Gary Heart tossing the towel and laying down on the rope. Hilariously. Coddle doesn't think ric Flair and Funk ends here, and it certainly did not, and that racks the main events scene. We get a wide shot as Jarr and Coddle wrap up in the stand up position. They recap all that had happened. They plug the nine hundred line, but Peacock mutes that and cancels it out. Phone no longer active, et Cetera Jr's voice is cracking a bit. As he puts over, Star Kate is the most unique Starkate of all, coming up next to you. You know what they did? They were plugging too throughout the show. This after like this post show round the hot line. Yeah, but was it on the hot line? I thought it was a television I was on the hot line. Yeah, that was only on the hot line, Patsino and Russell. Yes, we talked about I don't know how much it costs, but it was an option for people who couldn't see the show. You could get the results. And why you would know to call the number if you weren't watching the show, I don't know, but right, and this is this is where Jared calls a Starkade the granddaddy of them all. So wow for that, and they sign off from Philadelphia. Credits role producer Jim Hurd, Producer Jim Ross. There you go, Producer, director Keith Mitchell, Associate director Craig Leathers. This is not one of the ones where they show wrestling operations with you know, like Alan Ragowski or Virgil Virgil Runnels or the real names of any of the news or assistance to mister Runnels like a Ganya or Jody Hamilton and all those fun names. No, nothing like that. They do give a special shout out to Beth Farho and Heidi Hendrix from Turner Home Entertainment in the credits, and those are the two names that are deleted out of the credit role that airs onthing. How petty is that it's beautiful Turner Home Entertainment, I don't think so. Also, upling facilities provided by Video Com Satellite Associates from Boston. That was interesting. I looked them up to They were a teleproduction facility out of Debta and they didn't really have much in newspapers. But what I did see was they offered a lot of They had a lot of job listings see in the you know what are those the want ads? The want ads? Yeah, I'd love to go to work.
