00:00:01 Speaker 1: All right, who's drunk from the trade deadline? Mentally? Yeah, hungover, hungover? Trade deadline was drunk in a good way. Ken Rosenthal said it was one of the most exciting trade deadlines that he's ever covered. Really, Ken's covered a lot of them. 00:00:17 Speaker 2: It has covered a lot of them. 00:00:19 Speaker 1: At least a quarter century of Ken coverage. 00:00:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, look, we're on TV. 00:00:24 Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, we were on yesterday and we're on every single weekday plus shout out to the online crowd that was watching. We had our highest numbers ever. 00:00:36 Speaker 2: The trade deadline was a lot of people, but not a lot of huge names. Korea, right, but none of the none of the giant names. We thought our contrast. 00:00:45 Speaker 1: Sees well, just starting pitching, hell pitching didn't players either, Yeah, but there weren't many available. 00:00:54 Speaker 2: No, I guess you're right. 00:00:56 Speaker 1: Genoures moved, Kwan didn't didn't move one. Yeah, Korea saved the day yesterday, did he? I don't think so. 00:01:06 Speaker 2: You think he doesn't get Jason Miller saved the day. 00:01:11 Speaker 1: A J. Preller saved the day, Yes, A J. 00:01:14 Speaker 2: Prowler man one man day saver. 00:01:19 Speaker 1: I was worried about AJ because I'm always worried about AJ and at the start of yesterday's five and a half hour marathon, he said he was going to have attention span issues, and I asked him, if we got to trade every thirty to sixty minutes of decent significance, if that would keep him on the show, and that was the agreement, and he stayed. 00:01:39 Speaker 2: Yeah, I only had to go for one. I had to take one phone call. 00:01:42 Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was legit confirmed. It was legit confirmed, It was legit. It was a source. Yes, we have sources. Sometimes people don't realize we have sources. We've been in the game for a long time. We say things that sometimes are just our opinion, but often it's informed opinion. Just throwing that out there. Sometimes people disagree with me on things like the Mets getting Cedric Mullens got into it with some Mets fans on YouTube, and I was like, maybe I know something they got him. Yeah, anyway, let's recap and then later we're gonna go over trade grades. We're gonna talk about Nightingale. Later, we're still doing a full fledged trade deadline hangover show coming your way. About one hundred prospects we're dealt think about fifty trades there's a lot to get to. Let's charge. 00:02:31 Speaker 2: About. 00:02:34 Speaker 1: This is just overall takeaways from what you saw. You know who, this was past the show. You know who got a little extra cash. Jordan Montgomery trade bonus. 00:02:48 Speaker 2: So I don't understand. So did did Diamondbacks just eat his money just to get him out of the clubhouse? What it means he really even around? I don't know. 00:02:57 Speaker 1: But he's not pitching, and I know he's a free agent. 00:02:59 Speaker 2: So why would the Brewers take on a salary. 00:03:02 Speaker 1: As part of the deal to get Shelby Miller? 00:03:05 Speaker 2: So they just took on twenty million? What's Jordan Montgomery, Macon, He's making a lot. It doesn't make sense to me. Why would the Brewers do that. They wanted Shelby Miller that bad? They take on that money not get a player. 00:03:21 Speaker 1: No, I'm sure that they ate most of the money the diamond Back probably right Krats probably, yes, yeah, yes, the Brewers don't take on money like that, And I. 00:03:31 Speaker 3: Think the Brewers, I think the Brewers took on the rest of Shelby Miller's money. I have no idea what it is, but that's where I think it can't be there. Probably it can't be much. But I also think they could Scott and I were talking about before the show. I think it could be like a Big WU situation. Money. Hey, we've rehabbed this, We've done this with Wade Miley, we did this with Big Wu. Like, hey, well maybe negotiate. See how your recovery's coming. We'll rehab you through this process and we'll give you kind of like that two year with a hook kind of thing or one year with a hook kind of contract might be an easy way to get him in the fold for next year. 00:04:12 Speaker 1: I think that's smart. Yeah, you got a first hand look at him, and one team did not want him in the org. 00:04:19 Speaker 2: It was a it was a person did not want him anywhere around that pace. 00:04:22 Speaker 1: It's not like he's bad guy. They just had beef and the owner was not pleased with how things worked out. It's his team, so he gets to do what he wants. I give credit to the Padres ownership group for letting aj Preller cook. Now he wasn't given a lot of leeway with adding money. Yeah, but still, I mean he got rid of a third of their farm system in terms of actual valuable prospects, you know, which is usually looked at as your top thirty. He gave about a third of those top thirty prospects away, a total of twenty two prospects traded away by AJ Preller and Crafts. I can see by your face expression you're freaking out. Are you going to tell me how most of these guys didn't cost anything? 00:05:05 Speaker 2: Yes, they didn't. They didn't cost anything. You think the ownership group. 00:05:10 Speaker 3: That's there right now, I don't know how invested they are or the executor of the state is invested. Do you think they care which of the guys in the minor leagues that somehow in their eyes a J. Peller keeps replenishing and keeps additional way do you think they care? 00:05:27 Speaker 1: Like? Oh, man, I can't. 00:05:29 Speaker 2: Believe you think they do. You think that executor of the estate cares? 00:05:34 Speaker 1: So this is actually a good inside baseball moment. We have been critical of certain front offices that don't push their chips in, and we'll get to some of those front offices later. But let's not act like they're the loan actors. Everything is done by one control person on a team, and that control person often is hugging prospects as well. Krats. Now they get advice from their front office executive, but they have to buy into that too, because ultimately it's their team. And they can say, hey, I'm the owner of the Cubs or I'm the owner of the Red Sox, and I understand you're saying the twelfth prospect is going to be the next big thing, but history tells me no, So I'm going to disagree with you. And you work for me, so you do have to be on the same page to an extent. And Padre's ownership said, yeah, you know what you're doing. You've done a great job of developing prospects, you deal away and grow them back. 00:06:30 Speaker 3: Okay, that's fair because of one prospect that he kept Rookie of the Year Jackson Merrill, or could have been Rookie of the Year Jackson Merril. 00:06:38 Speaker 1: Right, he kept a potential star. M traded away a potential star this time. 00:06:45 Speaker 2: Around, because they can we put that board up there again? How many? How many prospects do they trade away? 00:06:50 Speaker 1: But can we put the board with twenty two? 00:06:52 Speaker 2: Okay? And how many can we put the board up of who they who they got got back? Let's count those guys and read them out. Was it eight guys that got back seven seven, seven, seven bonafied big league guys one two three, Yes, that's seven bona fide big leaguers seven for twenty two prospects twenty one. I'm probably ain't gonna do anything in the big leagues. They might make it, they might have a year or two, but they ain't gonna be Maybe the Divires kid is something, okay, but the rest of those guys, Audios Mucucco's from a player on the Potters, I'm like, Audios Mucucco's chuaas, Yeah, Audios chihuahuas. See later, we got Mason Miller, Sears, O'Hearn. 00:07:31 Speaker 3: Loriano controllable guys, yeah, controssidesharn and I have no herd what the Patters did, and they traded their one, three, seven, nine to twelve, then poss no team has thirty prospects. 00:07:45 Speaker 2: Okay, let's get serious. No team has thirty. 00:07:47 Speaker 1: PCs and their farm system did not rank. 00:07:50 Speaker 2: I mean, okay, the Devrize kid. And then what two I'm assuming was Ethan Salas in there in there and he didn't get traded because he's been hurt for a whole year, right, And then I don't know who the rest, but I don't care. No team has thirty prospects, and the Potters have been trading prospects away for years. You know what they keep doing. Ethan Salas is another one number one prospect, whoever was not traded the next highest is now they're number two prospect and they move right on up. You know what Preler will do next year, He has the opportunity, he'll trade all them suckers away to and get more big league players. So good for you, Proler. 00:08:20 Speaker 1: And look at his position player group. Most of them are locked into contracts for a very long time. So if they don't work out, they got problems regardless. But they're not getting replaced, right first base Cronenworth locked in for a long time. Bogart second base, locked in for a long time. Same with Machado, same with Tatis, same with Jackson Merrill. They don't have that many spots open. Catcher, Okay, they picked up a catcher, and for mean, who could be a part of the mix for a long time. Dan Sallas is there in the miners. Their bullpen's disgusting. I mean, come on, the bullpens filth on paper. That's one of the nastiest bullpens I've ever seen. 00:08:56 Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody needs to everybody needs to understand exactly what AJ said. No organization has thirty prospects. We used to joke when we were in the minor leagues, the thirty prospects would come out Baseball Americay, everybone read it, be. 00:09:11 Speaker 2: Like I was thirty one. Had they just expanded it. I was thirty one. 00:09:16 Speaker 3: You know someone who's twenty nine's like, yeah, I made it, And we were like, nah, better be thirty one. I mean yeah, No, no team has twenty nine prospects. I'm sorry, probably not even nine prospects. And the Padres got rid of nine of them. So other teams were like, oh man, we got their ninth best prospect, all the guys they traded. 00:09:39 Speaker 2: No, I don't know. I give them credit though they're trying tries. Man, I give you credit. Proler, you try hard, and I hope you hope it works out for you because I think it's awesome. I think it's great. Then listen, the teams have tried and didn't hoard their prospects, the Phillies, the same ones, the Mets, right, those teams cordin the prospects the Mariners through a bunch of prospects of the Diamondbacks for Suarez and Naylor gave. 00:10:06 Speaker 1: Up a bunch of prospects too, Yankees, Yankees, good for you. But the thing is, almost all the teams you just mentioned maintained the guys that they think have a shot to really click good. The only one that didn't was Preller with Devires. In my mind, I yes, there's other guys that have some potential, but the only one in my mind that looks like he's got the superstar potential that might really hurt is Leo Devrez. A lot of nice players that could make it, could not. 00:10:34 Speaker 2: You think the thirty seventh prospect of the Padres there, like darn it, we lost him. No, not one person knows, even the organization, even the prospect people that are out there on Twitter and in the internet. Dude, the thirty seventh prospect, great, cool, he's sitting there. You can get another one tomorrow. 00:10:52 Speaker 1: Correct. And also Prowler's sitting there going to say a scout, who's talking up that player, who's you know, the third best third basement in their system. And he's going, oh, where where's he going to play? Where is he gonna play in a couple of years. You're gonna play third for Manny Man is still gonna be there for there. 00:11:07 Speaker 2: For like nine more years. 00:11:08 Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, I texted you. 00:11:11 Speaker 3: I texted I texted a GM yesterday after it like who time for a nap? And he just said Preller is impressive. So if your own one of the thirty dudes that has the same job as you says you are impressive, hats off to a J. 00:11:28 Speaker 2: Preller. Why he's a really he's a really aj agreed, agreed, all the as are geez, But I just I just don't understand why, like you know, Preller does these things right. But then you have the other side of it that the fans are annoyed, the Cubs, the Red Sox right where where were they were going to the brewers in there? I mean they're gonna say Vaughn and Priester and Jansen, But I mean I'm talking like impact guys. I mean, although Andrew Vaughn's been unbelievable since he got there, so you know, we'll see. But you know what I'm saying, like where was those guys had prospects. 00:12:02 Speaker 1: Too, the one that drove me nuts and again, we're gonna get into it later because we're gonna talk about the quotes. To just hear some of the responses from Craig Breslow and the Red Sox, it's very frustrating for fans to listen to that like that. You're trying hard. It's cringe. It's cringe. We'll get to it, though. I want to save it. The other guy who made a lot of money during this trade deadline, who we talked about a lot yesterday, but we'll give him some love right here, Luis Robert probably gets one year ten million dollars in free agency. I was trying to do some math on like where he'd stack, and I saw some comps right, Like Bader often gets a deal like that. He's a much higher floor. Obviously they're different players. But unless Robert goes nuts the last month and a half of the season, it's been a long time since he's been a star back twenty twenty three, you know. 00:12:56 Speaker 2: What's incoming now. It would be certain people in the chat saying, well, in July he's hit three point thirty with twelfth. 00:13:03 Speaker 1: Yeah, three weeks time, that's great. I'm not saying he's a bad player. My thing is right now, if he's on the free agent market, he gets a one year, ten million dollar contract, and the White Sox just publicly said he's getting a twenty million dollar option picked up as long as he's healthy. Right, they're gonna come to the off season and say, can you look and twenty million dollars just because we're stubborn and we didn't get the prospect that we wanted. 00:13:27 Speaker 2: No, especially for a team that needs new blood and needs to bring in a lot of people. Right, because if you listen to Chris gets his press conference yesterday, what do you say, We're picking up Robert's option because we love him and we're gonna have money to spend. So you're gonna pick up a twenty million dollar option just because you couldn't get the fourth best prospect of some team and that's gonna cost you twenty million. You could maybe get two decent players for twenty million. 00:13:55 Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a really tough sell. You don't think they're gonna do it. 00:13:59 Speaker 2: Kratz. 00:14:00 Speaker 1: Think they're saying it now and then in the off season they're gonna say, oh, something changed, and then they're gonna get nothing for him. Nothing after all this time. 00:14:10 Speaker 3: I don't think it's even a cold I don't think it's even a cold take. But maybe it is because of what gets said. I just have a hard time seeing. Look who's gotten twenty million dollars a year, even for one year in free agency the last few years. 00:14:28 Speaker 2: It's a small one. It's a small lest By the way, Nad, this guy, Nad, whoever you are, said bad take on Robert. You guys said that mediocre prospects don't matter, that's all they could get. Well, if you're the White Sox, you need all the prospects you can get right now because least Robert ain't. 00:14:41 Speaker 1: Helping you win. 00:14:42 Speaker 2: He's been terrible for tears. If you can get anything for him, you get it. 00:14:45 Speaker 1: This is twenty million, Okay. We're talking about the Padres contending having all of their spots locked up. 00:14:51 Speaker 2: And using the prospects to get real big league players. 00:14:54 Speaker 1: Yes, the White Sox have nothing and they need to get anything they can get. And also, nobody here said don't get anything for a player. Don't get anything for a player. That's what you want to do. 00:15:06 Speaker 2: They're doubling down. 00:15:07 Speaker 3: They're saying we didn't get anything, and we're going to pay him again to sit on the bench for half the season. 00:15:12 Speaker 1: You know what else stands out to me, Some gms are addicted to certain teams. So let's do these tweets. 00:15:18 Speaker 3: Back to back. 00:15:20 Speaker 1: Ben Charrington said the Pirates quote had access to players that were ranked higher than who the Yankees offered for David Bednar. They simply preferred this package. I think what he was referring to is how they're a prospect ranked higher on say Baseball America, but he just likes these guys. They can't develop a catcher, so they're like, boom, hopefully rathfaeld Flores is our catcher for the future. These were not highly rated guys in the Yankee system, not even close to their top five. I mean obviously yeah, seven, eight, nine ish, whatever, but not top five guys. And then in Charrington's tenure, he's acquired ten of the Yankees' top thirty prospects according to Baseball America via trade. The ten prospects are the following, Roanzi, Contreras, Rafaeld Floyes, Miguel or Connan Smith, Jigba, Yes he does, he's a nice guy, Kiner del Gato, Brian Sanchez, Hoy Park, Michael Ascato, Diego Castillo. How's this going. Don't you think at this point, Kratz, you should maybe stop trading with the Yankees. They're fleecing you, Ben, They're fleecing you over and over and over again. They're like the freaking pirate whisperers they call them. They get who they want, and then nothing happens on the other side. I hope that this catcher works out for the Pirates, but still they should have never made this trade, Kratz, if they got a better offer from a team like the Tigers. I'm just gonna try something else. It's like a relationship and you keep going after the same girl and it just keeps not working. Maybe you should date someone else. It's not working for you. 00:16:49 Speaker 3: Ben Jerston calls Cashman, and Cashman's ring tone for Shery todays money money, money, money, money, as we go, Ben, Yes, no, we did replenish all of our catchers. 00:17:02 Speaker 2: Do you want one? Absolutely? 00:17:04 Speaker 3: We have a bunch of guys that throw ninety eight miles an hour two in hi A. Would you like two of those? Thank you, We'll take your controllable closer see you later. 00:17:14 Speaker 1: I would love to hear the sales call, because it's sales at that point, Right, you're on that call. 00:17:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, are great at this Look at that hold list. There's not one guy in there that I've ever really other than Smith and Jigma. That's because his brother was on my fantasy team. 00:17:26 Speaker 1: Right, that's a football man. 00:17:30 Speaker 2: What are we doing? 00:17:31 Speaker 1: This is what all Pirates Turns are doing. I spent probably too much time in the comments these days, but I'm trying to understand the social media scene and what everyone's saying. Right, so, Pirates fans last night, the replies to the two tweets that we showed you, a lot of them are like, I'm done. I can't root for this anymore. I need new GM, new owner, the whole deal. This has been a really difficult six years. 00:17:55 Speaker 2: Nothing's not going anywhere, of course not. Yeah, that's what he said. 00:17:58 Speaker 1: That's what he said. 00:18:01 Speaker 2: That's what he said, that's what he said. 00:18:04 Speaker 1: All Right, here we go. I always look forward to the press conferences after the trade deadline when a team fell short. Let's start with the Cubbies. Jed Hoyer, who just got extended by the Cubs, and it's done a nice job building a playoff contender this year, but didn't get a starter. Quote from a starting pitching standpoint, it was a really tight market. Very few rental starters. Of the marquee controllable starters, none of them changed hands. We didn't acquire them, but no one else did either. We felt the asking price was something we couldn't do to the future. As for rentals, Hoyer wouldn't talk on Meryl Kelly specifically. This is coming from our buddy Jesse Rodgers, but Hoyer said, quote, sometimes you line up with teams and sometimes you don't. Meryl Kelly was a rental starter. He's very good. He would pitch Game one, two or three of the playoffs for the Chicago Cubs. He's having a great year. You can't miss you can't miss on that. The Rangers were like adding to a surplus. You can't miss there. If you can't get the controllable starter crats, that's okay. But there was a rental available and you have to leave with him. You have to figure out a way. There were prospects that the Diamondbacks would take in a deal for Merrill Kelly, and it didn't have to be ballisteros. If that's someone they think is still impacting the big league club, and they think he's this next big thing at catcher, hitting for the future for them, that's fine, or whatever position he ends up doing. They think he's a great bat. There's ten to twelve other guys. I guarantee you could have come up with the right deal to get Merril Kelly, and if not, you got to get one of those controllable starters. You're trying to be a World Series contender this year. You don't have enough starting pitching for October. 00:19:45 Speaker 3: I think they disagree with you. I think they disagree with you in one or two ways they think they do, and it couldn't have been more in their face. Kate Horton's thrown for him tonight. Is Kate Horton throwing one of your three starting one of your three games in a playoff matchup? I don't think so. I don't think so, But they think so. Or it's exactly what I said yesterday. Maybe they don't think they're a World Series team. Maybe they don't think this is the real time to push in. 00:20:15 Speaker 2: I know, I know, I agree with you. I agree you trade that you make that trade for one year of a guy that could possibly walk at the end of the year. But you don't kind of try and finish it all. 00:20:28 Speaker 3: Yeah, but what did they do learn from Jed Hoyer when they got when they got, when they did that trade, when they got basically Kyle Tucker for Cam Smith, I get it. 00:20:40 Speaker 2: Paradis is in there. But they did it. 00:20:43 Speaker 3: They did it so they could get rid of Bellinger's contract. Also, that's a win for them. That's a win for them if all they care about is the money. To me from the outside, I look at the Kyle Tucker trade and I say, this team's doing it. This team added the aircraft carrier, this team offense took an absolute jump start to where they are right now. And to me, starting pitching is what they needed, and they did not make the move. So, in my opinion, if the market was too high, if they were just asking too much, and he said leveraging it for the future, it didn't want to do that to our future. There was plenty of starting pitchers that have more than just one year of control. That's your future. That's your future. So either Kyle Tucker, this is your one year. You made the Kyle Tucker move, then you have to get a rental and they didn't fail. Thumbs down, whatever you want to emoji you want to. 00:21:39 Speaker 1: Use, no doubt. They got Kittridge, they got Soroca, and I liked the Willy Castro pickup. But that is not enough. You're not screaming. World Series teams. 00:21:52 Speaker 3: Doesn't get hurt if you and HAP doesn't get hurt. Do they get Willy Castro? 00:21:57 Speaker 1: Maybe not? Why do you ask? 00:21:59 Speaker 2: I would say no, just because. 00:22:00 Speaker 3: Then it's even less of a then to me, it's just an answer to Ian happ getting hurt because they don't think Biasteros can play that he can't play left field every day for him. 00:22:11 Speaker 1: I think they think nout he was a catch, he's a catcher the h Yeah, I mean maybe oh in casey Caen. Here's the thing that they held him. 00:22:20 Speaker 2: Remember last year when they went out and got Candelario a lot two years ago when they went out. 00:22:24 Speaker 1: And got last year they got Pradies. 00:22:28 Speaker 2: When two years ago, like they were everyone's like, oh, the Cubs are in, the Cubs are in. They went out and got Candelario. People are like, why didn't they sell Remember we were like talking about on here. Yeah, cup should have sold the cups of sould instead. That was twenty three to get people. Sorry my pack drop. 00:22:42 Speaker 1: Well, last year they got Paradis when they were not in a great spot. People thought they were gonna sell hard, and Partis ended up being helpful to turn into Kyle Tucker. Great job, great job on both most of those fronts, but not here. You needed a starter, and I think you needed a reliever too. Here was the message to fans, considering other teams were more aggressive, using trades for second closers as an example, like San Diego Mets, Phillies, et cetera. Right, Jesse Rodgers got the quote from Jed who said, quote, our biggest focus wasn't trading that prospect capital in the bullpen. If we were going to do that, it was in the rotation. That's what I would say. You messed up. 00:23:19 Speaker 2: Instead, they didn't trade any of that prospect capital. We got no starters. 00:23:25 Speaker 1: I listened to other quotes from him too. He was on ESPN yesterday and he said that they don't want to do the drastic up down because if you think about it, they'd rather Okay, so won series question? 00:23:37 Speaker 2: I asked Bob, So if you just make the playoffs like the Brewers do, and you never really get anywhere? Is that good enough the Twins? We made the playoffs? Want we want a wildcard series? We're great, all right, We're good. Is that good enough? Because I don't think it is if you're the Cubs. 00:23:54 Speaker 1: To me, you know what, the screams fifty four. The team that that was believing in fifty four percent actually just got past that. 00:24:02 Speaker 2: Right. 00:24:03 Speaker 1: This is the first time. The Mariners are like, Okay, lame and you're not. Every team is going to be in it every year. It's just not possible. So that was a fifty four trade deadline. Let's let's give ourselves a shot. Let's get to the playoffs. Chances are not high that we'll have enough pitching to win in the National League. That looks ridiculous. 00:24:26 Speaker 2: Hey, we made the playoffs. 00:24:27 Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll be able to kind of keep this going for a while. Bruce Levine also commenting on what the Cubs and White Sox might have done together since Jed Hoyer and Chris gets their buddies. They almost had a trade for Adrian Hauser and the quote, I believe it's from Getz. We worked really hard but didn't quite get there. Oh, Hoyer said that gets confirmed they had conversations up to thirty minutes before the deadline. Gets said he thought they were close for the prospects that they asked for. 00:25:01 Speaker 2: Are they had dinner together? 00:25:02 Speaker 1: I don't know. 00:25:04 Speaker 2: Are they sitting at dinner together because they live like next door to each other. 00:25:07 Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. They sometimes I don't think they were. I mean, they might have been at dinner after, but they're in their their situation. I don't think you sit at dinner and do the trade deadline. I don't think, Adrian. Some people say in the chat that they did they had dinner during the deadline or. 00:25:27 Speaker 2: During the trade deadline. 00:25:29 Speaker 1: During the deadline. 00:25:30 Speaker 2: Scott doesn't get it. We need confirmed, we need TMZ pictures. 00:25:35 Speaker 1: I don't get it. What's the joke. 00:25:37 Speaker 2: Well, they're all saying they were sleeping. Certain people are sleeping. 00:25:41 Speaker 1: After lunch out to lunch. 00:25:43 Speaker 2: They forgot. 00:25:44 Speaker 1: Yeah, some people say, I agree with you, they want a good joke, good job. 00:25:48 Speaker 2: I'm sure they've been I'm sure they've had plenty of discussion. You think what you think when they're in the car together, like, hey, what about this? Will you take Louise Robert for twenty million? And you give me own Casey. 00:26:00 Speaker 1: I think that it goes even past that where he says, what should I do with Luis Robert and he says, you should keep them unless you had a top prospect, and he goes, but no one's offering me that, and he's like, yeah, because everyone's soft and no one trades big prospects anymore, So you should just keep them and spend more money and then we'll just continue to be the better team in Chicago. Gotcha Sucker was going down, That's right. Howser, by the way, went to the race. Interesting trade deadline for them. They got rid of to tell They picked up Howser, got rid of TODs, Bradley picked Gryffin Jackson, who they have for two and a half seasons. I think Gryffin Jackson is really good. That's gonna be a good one to Stus. Sternberg owns the race for a few more months, and I don't think he wanted to sell the team and have them all fall apart. They already have a deal, it sounds like, so it's not going to affect anything. This is very different from the Twins clearing their books. So I'm like, okay, I mean sure, you'd like to see them buy if they were buying, but they don't. They don't know if they're really in a good position. Their their playoff percentage chance is pretty low, right, but they're like, hey, let's give it a shot. 00:27:08 Speaker 2: They try to thread the needle. Yeah, they always do this. 00:27:11 Speaker 1: I've seen better, I've seen worse. Tea breaking news, the Yankees say they do not need Marcus Stroman anymore, so he has been released. This according to Bob Nightgel, who was just on our show Minutes to Go, he's still hustling, so he said, Stroman should be joining a starting rotation near you. Hey, maybe some of those teams that didn't do anything can drop a phone. 00:27:36 Speaker 2: The Cubs are going to take him back. 00:27:37 Speaker 1: Maybe Cubs Red Sox phone calls it. 00:27:41 Speaker 3: He would love to go to the Red Sox. He would love to play the villain to the Yankees or the superhero for the Red Sox if he has his choice, he would love that. Yeah, Blue Jays, back to the Blue Jays. 00:27:57 Speaker 1: Well, now they already have six starters. He here's the problem. He has a six plus e RA. If you go on his stat cast page, everything besides ground balls is incredibly blue. It could be the end, or it could be a tryout on a team that just needs to pick up some innings. I don't know. 00:28:20 Speaker 2: Do you think you pick a team that needs He's just gonna have to pick find a team we can pitch and start, right, whatever team that is, it needs him just to eat innings, whether you know, to cover and then hope he does really well and then he can find another job next year. 00:28:34 Speaker 1: Does he want to go to a team that is not in the race? 00:28:37 Speaker 2: Well, he has to make a decision. Do I want to go to a team that's good and probably not get to pitch a ton, or do I want to go to a team that's out of the race and probably get a chance to pitch every day. Right, that's a tough decision we all have to make. 00:28:49 Speaker 1: What would you do if you or him? 00:28:52 Speaker 2: Has he won before? 00:28:53 Speaker 1: I don't think he's won a World Series? 00:28:56 Speaker 2: Then your answer is I, he's made a lot of money, so I'd probably have to go with the go where I have a chance to win. But that's tough because he was on the Yankees to have a chance to win and they let him go. So other teams are gonna say, why did the Yankees let him go. 00:29:10 Speaker 1: Yeah, and he wasn't happy in the bullpen. 00:29:12 Speaker 2: Let's not forget. There's also the whole thing. He was not happy in the bullpen. Remember they put him in the bullpen. He wasn't happy. Then he said, I don't want to be in the bullpen. I'm a starter, So I don't know. 00:29:23 Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna mention how he made it pretty clear, telling us what twelve times since spring training in that interview, I'm a starter. It's made nine starters this year. He had some injuries, that's it. He's made the nine appearances. 00:29:38 Speaker 3: He also didn't He also didn't pitch once in the playoffs last year. I'm not saying that was all him. I'm saying maybe partially him, Like if you're gonna throw me, like, you got to make sure I got time to warm up. So if a contending team says, yeah, I want this guy, they have to understand he wasn't used in the playoffs last year. I'm not saying he wasn't good enough. I'm saying he wasn't used for whatever reason. If you have him a starter right now, he's gonna fill innings for you and you make the playoffs how's he gonna feel going to the pen? Well, he made that clear in spring training and postseason. It wasn't it wasn't looking like where he wanted to be. Let's put it that way. 00:30:20 Speaker 1: William in the chat said he doesn't have pen and stuff, bullpen stuff. He said, maybe long reliever. 00:30:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he would be. We know he's he's not going to the eighth inning and they're not firing him out there in the eighth inning. 00:30:33 Speaker 1: Yeah. I think he meant, you know, high leverage stuff. Oh no, yeah, Okay, this is interesting. I wonder do you think someone picks him up because if he really wants to be a starter and it's only contender, you think so Astro don't so he doesn't get picked up. 00:30:55 Speaker 2: No, he does. He does with it. 00:30:57 Speaker 3: You said a contender. Does he get picked up by contender? No, I don't think he gets picked up by a contender. I think somebody that need innings. 00:31:06 Speaker 1: I got one for you. I think he goes home. 00:31:11 Speaker 2: To happen. 00:31:11 Speaker 1: I think he goes home, Oh, check cash is the same this year, and then you take off too. Yeah. I think he just says, hey, this is not going to be the right setup for me unless a contender wants me and promises me that I'm going to be a starter. The rest of the way, check cash is the same, go home, and then you can sign a contract with the team to show up at spring training and buy for a rotation spot. Just knowing how he operates. I don't think that's a crazy thought. 00:31:44 Speaker 2: Okay, right, Yeah, he's got a boat. It'll be down in Tampa. I don't hate that. And he makes his contract tax free down in Florida. 00:31:54 Speaker 1: He does the bullpen session on the dock. You ever seen those videos? Oh yeah, so I got his own shoe line. 00:32:01 Speaker 2: He does too right, And hey, sugar. 00:32:05 Speaker 1: If he wants to still pitching the bags and make some money. And but here's the thing. 00:32:11 Speaker 2: Unless he goes to a team this year and pitches and does well, he's going to be a NRI next year's gonna be a non roster invite more than crats. I mean, I would think with a chance to make a couple million. I don't know that that's the way this kind of goes. You get released the next year, you go to a camp as a NRI guy, or you know, most most of the time, not all the time. 00:32:29 Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was trying to think of I'm trying to think of examples of guys who who had subpar years and then still came out and got got that contract. Just yeah, just coming off an injury and then he didn't get many starts after the injury. It's tough. Some people be like, oh, screw that, Like I didn't get it. I didn't get a fair shake after the injury. 00:32:52 Speaker 2: I get it. 00:32:52 Speaker 3: That's why you don't rush back from injuries for everybody who's watching. Don't rush back from injuries because you don't do good right out the game, especially on a Tina wants to win, You'll find a spot for someone else. 00:33:05 Speaker 1: I think public perception because he's vocal and outspoken could lead to some team saying no. Also because he hasn't pitched well. I mean, he's a negative war in his nine starts six plus e RA. Some teams are just going to be like, not. 00:33:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, but the team like the Braves Orioles. 00:33:19 Speaker 1: Do you think the Braves would take them? I think the Orioles might. I think the Oriols might. I don't know. I don't think the Braves. I don't know. 00:33:25 Speaker 2: If there's stone teams out there that we've talked about needing starters. Those are a couple of teams that kind of. 00:33:31 Speaker 1: Need starters Orioles. 00:33:32 Speaker 2: For sure, Braves lost their whole rotation. 00:33:35 Speaker 1: Yeah, I just for some reason, I don't think and Thoppolis had him right, he had him in Torontoah, Yeah, I don't know. I don't I don't think that gets reunited. But I could be wrong. Maybe they got along really well. And there's a phone call there. And also, let's not act like this business doesn't have a little bit of networking to it, right, There's some guys you like, there's some guys you don't like, like Alex might really like Marcus from their times there, and it might be a phone call like, hey, dude, give me a shot. Let me let me get a start or two there and see if I can get this rolling again. 00:34:08 Speaker 2: Nothing else. That's what I'm saying. That's that's what I'm saying. The Braves are a real option. 00:34:14 Speaker 1: Cookie Carrasco pitch the other day. 00:34:16 Speaker 2: That's my point. Yeah, Okay, Cooking Carrasco pitched last night. It actually did okay until the eighth inning came and then nobody pitched very well. 00:34:25 Speaker 1: Neither and that was the relievers. I mean no, I know, yeah, that was a difference. 00:34:30 Speaker 2: He scored eight runs in the eighth last night. 00:34:33 Speaker 1: That was something. 00:34:35 Speaker 2: Wow. 00:34:36 Speaker 1: So anyway, the news is Marcus Stroman cut by the Yanks. They are going to go forward with Warren Schlitter, Louis Heel's coming back this weekend, and then of course you got Freed and Rodin at the top. Makes sense. All those arms I think great better now than current version of Stroman. So there you go. That's your breaking news. Hey, I want to bring that game up. Key Brian Hayes first game with the Reds pulls a homer, said two homers. The whole year is like a two ninety slugging percentage. Pirates fans already were feeling miserable after their trade deadline, and then there's barely any baseball on and Key Brian Hayes bangs a homer, part of an eight run comeback for the Reds, who ultimately lost, but still Kratz texted us in our group chat like, oh, hey, there's the power. 00:35:31 Speaker 3: His career seven. I wrote it down, seven forty two ops versus the Reds. I don't know if that means the trade is good or not, but maybe. 00:35:41 Speaker 2: He likes playing in Cincinnati, just saying. 00:35:46 Speaker 1: That's crazy. First game, I mean, you. 00:35:52 Speaker 2: Had, like you know, that was it had to be the lock. That had to be the lock. That was his third homer of the year. He's got his Pirates shoe on, his Pirates belt on, all his Pirates stuff on, and wammo. 00:36:04 Speaker 1: There was either the Pirates fans that are like, I hate life or the other side, because again i was just couldn't sleep last night and I'm going through comments. They're the Pirates fans are like, are you gonna point out the two run error that he had? And I'm like, shut up, dude, He's really good at third. That is not the concern for Cincinnati. The concern is will this guy hit enough to be worth seven million a year for the next X amount of years and they're banking on it. 00:36:31 Speaker 2: We'll see, it's gonna be interesting. This is this is a fascinating trade to me because we talked about it when it happened. Why did Cincinnati take on that money unless they think they can unlock something and maybe they have a different hitting coach, maybe they talked to him a little bit differently and he's been in Pittsburgh his whole career. You know, sometimes he grow stale, like the same message over and over again. He signed a big contract there, didn't get any better. So maybe this is the opportunity to move on and find something that he couldn't find in Pittsburgh. 00:36:57 Speaker 1: I hope, So, I hope it works out for him. 00:36:59 Speaker 2: He's probably tired of being in last place over here too. 00:37:01 Speaker 1: It's tough. That's gotta be tough every year, no chance. Hey. Also, the Mariners are one to zero and the Gino Suarez era had a nice knock and cal Riley hit his forty second homers. Yeah, it's gonna be fun to watch the Mariners down the stretch here. Mariners fans are pumped because they were pissed when they didn't push chips in the past couple of years for the bats and then they just got two and the one they got last year Randy or Rose. Arena is hitting pretty well too, So let's talk about the AL West leaders coming up next. That's the Astros five well, now what four and a half games up? Yeah? In the Weeds powered by Arena club by sell Trade, Open slab Packs, arenaclub dot Com, Slash foul more coming up. That's great. The trade deadline, Jim Boden did his list. Don't show yet, but he did his list. He gave out five days, fifteen bees, seven season three d's. AJ was very excited for my list. I gave out six a's, fourteen b's, eight c's, and two d's. A's first, I'll give you Bodens a's. He gave the Mariners an A, the Padres in A, the Mets in A minus, the Phillies in A minus, and the Giants in a A minus. 00:38:29 Speaker 2: Why are the Giants I've had them as a loser. 00:38:33 Speaker 1: He really liked their returns in their deals, and he gave them credit for their trade season, which included Raphael Devers, even though the teams. 00:38:44 Speaker 2: They've been theteam in baseball since they got. 00:38:45 Speaker 1: Him right, but he likes to deal long term. The team stinks. I gave the Giants a B plus because I actually thought, I mean, they got some major league guys for Rogers. They pivoted in the right way. They're not going to make the playoffs this year. Sell off some pieces. That's what they did. Dove All still had another year, but I think you sell high. He's having a great year, So I think you got to thread the needle a little bit. I think Buster Posey entered a little bit of a mess and he's trying to buy his way out of it. But you also still need a farm system. They did not do a great job of that, so B plus for me on the Giants, I know, he gave him an A minus. And besides that, Kratz I had the Yankees with an A minus to go along with the Mets and Phillies two. I mean, they fixed third, They got their two platoon bench guys. They got three bullpen arms, two of which could close for many teams. So are you not entertained A minus? I mean, if they got a starter, you give him the A or the A plus. But that's a pretty nice deadline. He gave him a B plus. So oh and then last one for me where I differed to him is he had the Twins actually in the B plus. I gave him an A. I mean, but we talked about this yesterday. They cleared their roster to get sold, and if you're a Twins fan, whatever gets your team sold fastest wins Joe poll adds scorched earth on the way out or the poll add family. In general, they're hopefully about to sell the team, and the more that they can clear, the easier it makes it to do. 00:40:22 Speaker 2: By the way, they're sitting out season ticket renewals this year for five percent increase, just to increase increase. 00:40:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're on their way out, and so they're just messing with people at this point. I'm just saying, I know, I know, but if you're a Twins fan, I know it hurts that you traded forty percent of your big league roster, but the number one thing you should root for is someone new to run that ship. And it doesn't always work out that way either. But this is pretty bad and it's been a while, so I give them an A. Where do you differ on the a's. 00:40:55 Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, I'm not sure exactly how did he give a lot of bees out there? Is there are a lot of buses. Yeah, because I was told I was told in school that b's and c's are average, So I'm pretty pretty happy with those. To me, I agree with you. I put the I would have put the Tigers a little bit lower. I think they just kind of did stuff. I think they just kind of middled around. They got more, They got more guys than other teams, But to me, I would put them in more like the C plus range. Doesn't mean they're C plus team. I think the Yankees. I think the Yankees are an A. The only reason I'm going to give them an A minus is because I don't know how these guys are going to fit in New York. How does Bednar, who's only ever closed, do in the non closer role? 00:41:47 Speaker 2: Is that great? 00:41:48 Speaker 3: Is that something that relieves some stress when you're coming to the big city. What happens if Devin Williams falls again? You know, Luke Weaver hasn't been great since he's come back. Is none of that guy? Is Camille Duvall that guy? 00:42:03 Speaker 1: Like? 00:42:04 Speaker 2: To me, I think they got a lot of great pieces. How it works in New York? I don't know. 00:42:09 Speaker 3: They even upgraded their defense, which is something that I didn't think they could do, and I think they did it really well. Yankees fans viscerated me for saying that Brian Cashman did a great job. They should talk to me when we get a ring. I was like, well, the only way to get a ring is to actually make these moves. To me, I don't think the Braves. I don't think the Braves did bad. I think the only two teams, if you're not given any f's, the only two teams that should get an F are the Rockies and the White Sox. 00:42:40 Speaker 1: All right, well, now let's show the board. I was only doing a's and then Kratz gets an F for a out following directions. But let's show the board. You were going through your whole list. 00:42:47 Speaker 2: I was just he lost, he lost me. 00:42:51 Speaker 1: Kratz gets an F. So there's one one F on this board all the way to the right. Kratz didn't follow directions. But anyway, how do Rockies. 00:42:59 Speaker 2: Get a minus? I mean, I guess they traded McMahon bird to the Yankees. I mean I guess they didn't really have that much to trade though, so but they should be more of like I didn't do much. 00:43:11 Speaker 1: They traded. They basically sit out most deadlines, right. 00:43:15 Speaker 2: They great just for the fact they got someone to take Brian Hayes. Wait, but the problem, that's what he's saying. 00:43:21 Speaker 1: Hold up, the Rockies got a B minus from Bowden. I am a B. They traded Jake Burden, Ryan McMahon. What else did you want him to do. 00:43:28 Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. 00:43:29 Speaker 1: That's all they had so so to be you have to do what you can work with, right, So I actually thought that was fine. He said, be minus. I think it's to be Pirates. 00:43:37 Speaker 2: You asked about Pirates, got B minus on on on Jim's. 00:43:41 Speaker 1: List, there's C for me. They held on to three rentals Andrew he Andy, Isaiah Kiner, Fileffa, Tommy fam The C is all on the Brian Hayes money. Dumb. They they moved and they moved Bednar. I don't. I don't like the return. Ben Harrington does. 00:44:01 Speaker 2: Actually the benchuring says we could have got more, but we wanted these players. Don't you just get the best players. 00:44:06 Speaker 1: Available if you're not, if you're the Pirates. 00:44:11 Speaker 3: Evaluations system, they have a different evaluation system. 00:44:15 Speaker 1: It's better. It's better. Their evaluation system is working better than most everyone else's. Just look at the results. 00:44:25 Speaker 3: That is not something anybody said. The only other part, because I was the only person that actually turned in my homework before the show, is I did go off the rails and start talking about my f's But. 00:44:38 Speaker 2: The mets I don't see. 00:44:40 Speaker 3: I don't care if you give them an A minus or not, but you can't have the Phillies in the same realm. I think the Mets did more than what the Phillies did. I think their additions and I agree with what Bob said and what Bob said other GM said. I feel like their additions in the bullpen are going to make that team a problem. And it takes so much pressure off of David Peterson, who has been pitching really well. Takes pressure off of Sean and Iya, who's coming back from injury and he's you know, hasn't pitched, hasn't thrown that much this year. Frankie Montas who I think they're playing with house money with what they've gotten from him already. Code I sanga like it takes pressure off of these guys, don't They don't need to go along. And you're not just going to pieces in the bullpen. You're going to absolute studs, from Reed Garrett to to Rogers to Hellsley to Edwin Diaz. I'm forgetting something oh Raley and Soto. I think the Mets, the moves they made are a solid a or at least above the Phillies. They can't be on the same realm as the Phillies. 00:45:49 Speaker 2: Okay, well I thought, what the Phillies. It was nice though they got another they got an outfielder, and they got a closer for me, because where else are you filling in places for the Phillies. 00:45:59 Speaker 1: So so for me they're a minus and not an A or an A plus because they could have gotten one more reliever. For me, there's a couple of guys that you could replace because now you have Super bowlpens being built and their bullpen is good compared to those, but not great. Right, there are a number of bullpens still better than theirs. For me. On the Mets a minus. They did everything they wanted to do. They didn't go overboard, like for me, that's you get the one starter on top of that, right, you get one more starter that gets them the A or the A plus. You fill your needs and then some you fill all of your needs. You're in the A range. But that's to me where it differs. Like I still had to have a separation between the Padres and the Mets. Padres are an A, Mets are an A minus. Okay, right, ye, Padres filled all their needs and then some fair fair okay, fair, yeah, Tigers for me, I'm actually that's that's the grade that I wrote down that I probably regret. I put them at B minus, and I think that they should be in the C range. Boden put them at B. For me, it's a ton of quantity, but no high leverage reliever, no guaranteed high leverage reliever, and no right handed bat. So I actually regret my B minus. I'd like to give them a C R C Plusden gave me the thank you. Boden gave the Orioles a B plus. He liked their returns. You know what was interesting when I started digging through their returns, Crats mostly a ball guys. Seventeen year old shortstop Wilfree de la Cruz, nineteen year old righty Boston Bateman, twenty year old shortstop Cob High tower Man. They must feel like they're I'm not surprised. It's just he must have assurance that front office must have assurance that they're good, they're fine, because some people are like, oh, well, Lias is gone after this season. I don't think so. No, he's staying. 00:47:53 Speaker 2: Yeah, I say he really likes his team going forward. He's disappointed with his What do you say he's disappointed with the trade deadline, but right here after incredibly busy deadline for the Orioles, Elias is unhappy with how the season is going to be happy with a group of players he's acquired or sorry, twenty twenty five is gone this way. 00:48:12 Speaker 1: But see you next year's next year. 00:48:16 Speaker 2: Yeah, they said, lots of prospects again, guys, get excited for five years from No, my five year plan has readjusted. 00:48:25 Speaker 3: Sorry, the big league guys or whatever you want to call them, you know, I'm not even I don't really care what they do because I just allotted myself five more years only a ball guys. 00:48:36 Speaker 1: Yep. Gotta wait until those guys prove themselves until you evaluate me. Boden had a C plus for the Cardinals. I give him a B. They traded their rental guys, philm Aton, Ryan Helsley, Steven Mattz. They kept their longer term guys, which I think they should. 00:48:51 Speaker 2: They could have maybe moved a catcher. 00:48:53 Speaker 1: Okay, but that's why B B for me makes sense. I thought C plus from him was too harsh. Okay, Dodgers, he gave him a B plus. I gave him a B. I mean, there's not a ton that that they need to replace. They need to get healthier. Brock Stewart could be a high leverage guy for that, not playing for him, So they put in Alex Call, who I didn't realize me. I knew he was having a good year plus defense and speed one nineteen ops plus he could be one of those guys that Andrew Friedman falls in love with. Yeah, so it's a B for me. Kratz. 00:49:33 Speaker 2: Sure, I guess nothing. Nothing. 00:49:35 Speaker 3: The Dodgers can be below a bee. I mean, I don't think they needed a lot. Brock Stewart's gonna be awesome. He's gonna throw a lot more change ups now. I think he's a change up, change up heater guy, and Alex Call is gonna fill in for him. They didn't really need to get other guys like the I joked about NLCS MVP, but Alex Call plays was playing and last year I watched a NAT's game in Philly and he plays a nice right field. I don't know where he's gonna play, probably more left, you know, maybe that platoon with Confordo that they've been trying to figure out. 00:50:10 Speaker 2: But it's a nice piece B. Sure you can. 00:50:16 Speaker 1: Last last one for me, I have the Angels and Braves as d's I mean, Brave. You gotta trade Rycel Glaciers. Somebody wanted him. If you couldn't trade a Zooner, you got to trade Riysel, Like, what are you keeping him for? It's free agent. After this year, we've gone over the White Sox a lot. You can look at other videos with Luis Robert, they get a D. He gave the Angels a D. I give him a C minus. I give him credit for not selling and trying. At least they didn't give anything up. They got Luis Garcia and Chaffin. Do they have the pitching the last I don't think so. But what they could have sold Ken Lee, Taylor, Ward, Tyler Anderson, I don't know how much they would have gotten, So I'm okay with it C minus obviously they didn't add. But D to me is a little too hard. They're there, Yeah, I'm just kind of there. That's what Caesar for. I mean, the Red Sox and the Cubs are in the C for me because they're there too, right.
