Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:34
Speaker 3: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:35
Speaker 4: Well, welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Thursday, January the twenty ninth. I'm Matt Jones here in Lexington, Kentucky at the KS Bar and Grill with Ryan and Drew. Shannon is in Louisville. You can give Sean the Clarks Puppy Shop phone line eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four In this distion sponsored by the T. J. Smith Law obviously called Tjhill make them pay. We haven't seen you in a while. I haven't seen all of you in a while. I made the drive this morning.

00:01:07
Speaker 5: How was it driving over from Louisville. Uh?

00:01:09
Speaker 4: Well, I was gonna say, first of all, we're at Kaspar. I know a lot of you in Lexington, like haven't left your house. So come on out today, have lunch, see us, come to dinner. Yes, just get out of your house, I will say, having made the drive, you guys in Lexington have handled this storm much worse than the people in Louisville.

00:01:30
Speaker 5: Snow removal.

00:01:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean just there's so much more stuff everywhere, Like you all have a lot more ice and snow everywhere like Louisville at this point. Like my street, which is very much is basically clear now really, I mean outside of you know, there's piles from the but the street and you're on a side street and I'm on a side street. You guys still you know, you guys got some work to do here, Ryan. This is why you need to be on the city council.

00:01:59
Speaker 5: A lot of work. My neighborhood drew neighborhood. All these neighborhoods around town, they haven't got to it yet. We had a snowplowed guy called a pre show. He's like, yeah, you're complaining we're not got your neighborhood streets. You're also gonna call complain when we plowed the snow on the end of your driveway.

00:02:12
Speaker 3: So get a shovel and get a shovel out there.

00:02:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, I ain't doing it. What No, I think he was talking to me about getting a shovel, get out there and clean the snow.

00:02:19
Speaker 4: Mysnd, I don't h You're not making any sense. What are you talking about? Yeah, I mean that was just gibberish. Well he was saying.

00:02:26
Speaker 5: What he's saying, you call all you people call and complain about us not getting the neighborhood streets.

00:02:31
Speaker 4: Okay, I understand that sentence.

00:02:32
Speaker 5: You're also the first people to call and complain when we pushed the snow up against the end of your driveway, and he said, get a shovel out and shove it yourself.

00:02:38
Speaker 4: Oh he's you were acting Okay. I thought you were saying you told him to give a get a shove, which I wouldn't have made any sense. All right, Well, I'm just saying. I mean, I'm not I'm not blaming anybody. I'm not blaming a snowplow driver or the city council or you specifically, Ryan, I'm just saying just in general, having now been in both cities, this city is a lot more messed up than Louisville is. And Louisville got more snow, but you all may have gotten.

00:03:05
Speaker 6: More eyes, so maybe that's it. It's an adventure. Once you get on a main road, you just have to go straight. There's no turning lanes, like if you want to go left, there's just piles of snow. It's like, well, I guess I'll have to keep driving straight and eventually find a way out of here, or you'll just be driving in your lane. We'll just turn into a mountain of snow and you have to stop and get over. So you're still getting through it.

00:03:22
Speaker 4: So you all just so you know, and Lexington it's worse, So just go to Louisville if you want. But but either way, it's nice to be here with you guys. How was the colonoscopy?

00:03:34
Speaker 6: Which one?

00:03:35
Speaker 7: You know?

00:03:35
Speaker 4: Which one?

00:03:35
Speaker 6: The one you had yesterday too? Oh?

00:03:37
Speaker 4: That one?

00:03:37
Speaker 6: Well the night before I had one without anesthesia watching Kentucky play vandam Yeah, I thought that one through. It was great, had a great time. Actually, you did have.

00:03:47
Speaker 4: A great time.

00:03:48
Speaker 6: Honestly, that's the best sleep I've had.

00:03:50
Speaker 4: It's the best.

00:03:50
Speaker 6: I would go back tomorrow if it didn't cost me so much. I'm not kidding. I do they do weekly? Can I get a subscription?

00:03:57
Speaker 4: I will say it is the best fifteen minutes or twenty minutes whatever of sleep. The only negative for me coming out of it was the first thing I saw was Ryan's face. Yeah, because you know that's not when you come out of a deep sleep. You're like, did is Ryan in my bed? And then every realized he's there?

00:04:13
Speaker 6: Be nice?

00:04:14
Speaker 4: But yes, it is the best sleep in the world. I'm pro colon oscary. Did you have a bad night before? Oh no, no, the prep everything was easy. I don't think that was as bad as people so everyone's liars. I't you know, not eating for twenty four hours and stuff. In fact, there was a moment during the Kentucky game where I rewound and Olive Garden commercial and watching it again.

00:04:32
Speaker 6: Abby's like, we gotta get you food if you're just from watching.

00:04:36
Speaker 5: When you had to go get a cheet burger.

00:04:38
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm glad he played that though I was so disappointed the anaesthesis changed. I was immediately fine. They even told me Ryan had something different. I was excited to be dumb and want cheeseburgers.

00:04:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like it.

00:04:50
Speaker 4: Mine went away pretty quick too.

00:04:52
Speaker 6: It must not.

00:04:52
Speaker 4: They must not give you the loopy stuff anymore.

00:04:55
Speaker 6: Ryan was a big topic by the way there everyone there was talking about Ryan and cheeseburgers. And the day we did the show.

00:05:00
Speaker 5: Did they give me some extra strong anesties or something on purpose? Maybe?

00:05:03
Speaker 4: Or maybe it just the way it goes into your brain, because you remember you saw me. I was fine, basically picked you up.

00:05:08
Speaker 5: I could not believe you were moving around that well, talking coherently.

00:05:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, so you got a good, good brand of hell I did. I will encourage people to go.

00:05:17
Speaker 6: You know, I won't lay up my I won't show you all my photos, but you know they said I should come back more often. That's a good thing to know, a how to time. Okay, that's been serious, but you know I'm glad I did it.

00:05:26
Speaker 4: There you go.

00:05:26
Speaker 6: I will show you the photos if you all want.

00:05:28
Speaker 4: I mean, I was hoping so if I'm to you, you know, uh, twenty to eighty seven. Uh, well, I'm glad that that you're good and uh, you know, it's been it's been weird, but we've been apart. It reminded me of the shows during COVID where we were always in a different spot, and uh, we're gonna actually have some more of those over the course of the next couple of weeks. But I I've enjoyed the last few shows. I think it was a good mix, and that led to I wanted to bring up you know, we're we are basically used to on this show over the last few years, the how well we've been very fortunate. We've won the ratings in Lexington for like thirteen fourteen straight years, right, But sometimes you get these moments that are very cool, And yesterday we found out that the last ratings period was the best ratings in the history of this show, and our bosses said, maybe the best ratings in the history of any show they've ever seen. These numbers are complicated, but for the first time ever, we won every demographic. We're the number one show, beating not just sports shows but music, country, music, rap, pop, all that stuff. In every demo. People people eighteen to forty nine, women eighteen to forty nine, men eighteen to forty nine, and then seniors people, et cetera. And in men twenty five to fifty four, which is the sports demo forty point three rating, which just so people know. I remember the first time we got a ten, people saying sports shows don't get a ten, and then when we got a twenty, people saying that's ludicrous. That's probably the highest rating in the country. And the last ratings period we got a forty a forty and women we won women eighteen to forty nine. I had a national radio executive write me and go, there's no sports show maybe in the history of sports it's ever won women eighteen to forty nine. So I just say all that to thank you. I want to thank the listeners. I also want to thank my man. I think Mario had a little bit to do with this, I really do. I think Mario putting us on social media and with the what was the exact hope for bringing him in, I think that had a lot to do with it. But mostly I want to thank all the listeners out there because this is a The success of this show is just ridiculous, and we thank you.

00:08:01
Speaker 5: The numbers are aflutely insane. I mean, nowhere anywhere in the country does a sports talk radio show get numbers like this. Talk rado does not beat country music. And we when we had a twenty I think they even had a little party for us, little salivatory.

00:08:15
Speaker 4: We'll see if they have it, they should send us on a trip for a forty forty.

00:08:18
Speaker 5: My goods.

00:08:19
Speaker 4: The only shows that in history have ever gotten something like that is like, at its peak in some parts of the country, Howard Stern would have gotten that. That's really the only the only thing. So I remember when we got the twenty thing, and well, we'll never do better than that, and and now you get this. It's just it's it's forty. It's it's really crazy. So thank you to all those folks.

00:08:39
Speaker 6: True congratulations to you guys that well, no, you're on this show too. I'm aware, I still want to give you congratulations. Uh It it gets in my head of like does that mean when I'm in a grocery store and like, I see some of your buds. Here's what that means.

00:08:52
Speaker 4: If at any for people who listen to the radio, two out of five people are listening to the show.

00:09:01
Speaker 6: That's crazy. That's absolutely crazy.

00:09:03
Speaker 4: That's absolutely crazy. Yeah, two out of five people are listening to this show. That's that's crazy. I mean, it is crazy. So when you go to the grocery, yes, you see five people, two of them like you. I'm just gonna start fist pumping them. Yes, three just fist bump five people. Presumably two of them will fist bump you back. The other three may call the authorities, but you get you get two out of five.

00:09:27
Speaker 5: The and these ratings don't include podcast listeners.

00:09:30
Speaker 4: Does not include so that's another thing. Doesn't include. Podcast doesn't include those of you that listen on.

00:09:36
Speaker 5: Streaming, So those numbers are just people who listen over the air.

00:09:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, so you add the streaming in the podcast, it's gonna be even more stupid. So anyway, I don't want to just spend the whole show patting ourselves on the back. But we we were very happy about that. And uh, you know, now now we can celebrate as we get ready Drew, you and I and Mario next week to go to the Super Bowl. We're gonna talk a little bit more about that later in the show, and Ryan you will be here.

00:10:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, my Broncos, let me down. In the snowstorm in Denver. I was pulling for him. It's like, you're gonna go if you if you drug me with you, I was gonna gona drug you.

00:10:16
Speaker 4: I wasn't gonna d I'm not gonna drug you. I feel like I would have just taken you and hopefully you would have enjoyed it.

00:10:22
Speaker 5: I know. I think your comrades are very happy we're not. They're not driving out to San Francisco.

00:10:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, I wonder happy there could be that we still don't have a place to stay for for Friday and Saturday.

00:10:31
Speaker 6: Uh, you knows, are just gonna go.

00:10:33
Speaker 5: My moss is still out there.

00:10:34
Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna end up. We're just gonna have to do something I don't like. We're gonna have to probably slum it a little bit and stay in a place. I'm gonna have to share room with someone. I don't like that. Uh.

00:10:45
Speaker 6: Just remember San Francisco's slums are so where where it's like a grip.

00:10:49
Speaker 4: Where we stay away is the wharf. You stay away from the wharf or the wharf. Okay, because I was.

00:10:54
Speaker 6: Great applebe's the wharf. I would happily stay in the wharf.

00:10:56
Speaker 4: So the wharf we could do.

00:10:58
Speaker 6: Yes, I haven't been at about four five years.

00:11:00
Speaker 4: All right, Well, then there were a couple of places in the wharf.

00:11:03
Speaker 6: You know, parts of Oakland I probably would rather not. Well, I'm only staying in Oakland, so I'm more upset now. We'll talk about later. But I saw Mario and Billy went shopping yesterday without us, and that hurt because I'm getting excited like you, and they're off doing side quests with them.

00:11:17
Speaker 4: Billy looked, but Billy looked hilarious yesterday. See Billy. Here's what's happened with Billy Shannon. He got the rub from getting this slutting I mean with Sudden. Yeah, different different show strutting with Sudden. He got the rub from that. And now he's trying to go retro and wear all this old.

00:11:37
Speaker 3: YEA attention and stuff and then resell it if he really wanted to.

00:11:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's now doing the whole retro thing. I understand. We got our invite to the parties. Now we got VIP access to the sports illustrating the Shack party. Okay, I've already figured out my outfits.

00:11:58
Speaker 5: I've got my fits, the club and shirt coming out.

00:12:01
Speaker 4: Club and shirt. It's a crucial.

00:12:04
Speaker 6: That's the bass player for all outfits.

00:12:06
Speaker 4: I had that ad I had to add to the club and shirt. Well you're gonna share, Well, no, you give mean it'll come out.

00:12:11
Speaker 5: I'm out in the photo.

00:12:12
Speaker 4: You don't reveal their stuff. But it's also some of this is gonna be off camera. This is gonna be the boys not producing content. Like I'm not showing what happens at the Shack party. You're at the Applebee's, at the Poor Mario, the Shack parties, just es.

00:12:27
Speaker 6: I saw the Shack Party invite list. This is how I know I'm old. The people performing, I didn't. I didn't recognize him. T Pain is one of them, you know, I'm so.

00:12:37
Speaker 4: And then the Sports Illustration party, we get the chain smokers and ludacros.

00:12:44
Speaker 5: So.

00:12:44
Speaker 4: Mario's excited, Billy's excited, Billy said. Billy told me his dream, his entire life has been to go not to the super Bowl, but to Radio Row at the super Bowl. I was like, really, he goes, Yes, I've wanted to do it my whole life. And I'm like, were you gonna get be there?

00:13:01
Speaker 5: You guys gonna do your show from Radio Row.

00:13:03
Speaker 4: We are. Our set is right in between the NFL Network TV show set and the Pat McAfee show set, so it'll be NFL Network TV Cover zero Pat McAfee. There's a really good chance that we, like Shannon, we may end up boys with Pat McAfee.

00:13:26
Speaker 6: What are you gonna do this?

00:13:27
Speaker 3: I don't like him at all? Tell him what he stuffy says Hello and.

00:13:29
Speaker 4: Sh I plan not talking to him about the back stuff. If I get a chance, I'm taking up for Max with it. But but that's where our set is.

00:13:37
Speaker 6: All those guys getting up at six am and doing radio before they go to Radio Row or just us.

00:13:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll be up early. Our show will be seven am local, Billy, it'll be six am local.

00:13:47
Speaker 5: So you know, when we went to the Republican Caucus, I was not convention convention. I was not excited to go, But then we went to Radio Row. Those are some of my favorite shows we've ever done.

00:13:58
Speaker 4: Well, this is like that, except instead of like Herman Kane walking around, it's sports.

00:14:02
Speaker 5: It's sports people walking around. How cool is that?

00:14:04
Speaker 4: Remember we had Herman Kane on, Yeah, and then he died.

00:14:07
Speaker 5: Who's the other big name guy we had on sit down and talk to us. Don King, we did see Don King.

00:14:13
Speaker 4: I don't know.

00:14:15
Speaker 5: Would Scott Bayo, We got Scott BAYOMC Hammer, IMC Hammer, Bunby, Yeah, boys to men, Lester Holt, Yeah, we saw all these.

00:14:24
Speaker 4: Phill Carlson, Tucker car I have a picture of me with Tucker Carlson, which I don't want nowadays, but there's a picture of me and we look like we're friends.

00:14:34
Speaker 6: You introduced me to him. I had no idea who he was. For all I knew he worked at the arena.

00:14:38
Speaker 5: Wolf Blitzer was the NBC Today Show. Pulled out the thing where I said, I'm not have any idea what's going on. I'm just here to see Rascal flats.

00:14:45
Speaker 4: The fact that you ended up in all those pictures, that was for those of you that are newer listeners, I would argue, oddly, our best shows were the Republican and Democrat convention in the Iowa Caucuses. Yeah, I think those might be the best shows we've ever done.

00:15:04
Speaker 5: I agree, And like I said, I wasn't looking forward to those trips but ended up being super super radio fun radio.

00:15:08
Speaker 4: Yep.

00:15:08
Speaker 5: And we just saw that picture of you taking a picture of Matt Bevin with Drew behind him.

00:15:12
Speaker 4: That was that was a great moment too. Kentucky gave their electoral votes and in the picture was Matt Bevin, Mitch McConnell, Andy Barr, and Drew. Ye.

00:15:19
Speaker 6: Well they needed me. I'm a Kentucky and Matt.

00:15:23
Speaker 4: Oh, Matt Bevin had to look like if you screwed, that's what That's what he looked like. Eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We will take a break and be right back. Talk a little pope. This is Kso walking back sports radio. We're having like old man memories here, good stuff of the pictures of the past. Eight I've nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights. Matt, you used to always talk about fighting with your bosses at the radio a lot.

00:15:55
Speaker 6: You don't do that as much. Does that mean you get along? Yeah?

00:16:00
Speaker 4: The most part. They basically leave us alone. There hiccups. There have been hiccups here and there, but not like it used to be. I mean, bike, it used to be. It used to be tough. Year last year, year and a half, it's been a lot better. They kind of they kind of just leave us alone unless a crisis comes up.

00:16:17
Speaker 5: We had a boss that was wanting us to work on our cum how's our cutan these days?

00:16:21
Speaker 4: That was a great moment. That was the first time we ever got over at ten and I went to Earl and that go. We got over ten and he just looks at me. C needs to grow and I was so mad. I like her though he played in the NFL.

00:16:32
Speaker 5: I don't know that he played in the NFL.

00:16:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's right, all right. So Mark Pope big topic of conversation nationally after yesterday. Paul fine Baum went on television stared into the screen. Shennon in an exciting show I'm Singh said that he wasn't sure. He thought there might now be questions about where whether Mark Pope could do this job.

00:16:53
Speaker 6: Uh Cole q.

00:16:54
Speaker 4: Book and Greg Michailroy had me on this morning to talk about whether or not Pope could do the job. So, Okley, this is becoming a conversation, I think, probably because you know, this is the time people start focusing on college basketball because the NFL is about to end. So a lot of people are going, well, wait a minute, let's watch college basketball this week, and then Kentucky's on against Vandy and they lose by that amount and be WHOA, what's happening locally in the fan base. I feel like that's also happening on his on his pregame show last night, he said he still thought and when I heard this, I thought, Drew's gonna love this. We could still do very special things this year.

00:17:31
Speaker 6: I'm trying. I need a mental break from Prescott. I still have recovered from him saying the first half against Ole Miss was amazing and beautiful, and then we get the quotes Tuesday. It's okay to say things aren't going well. You can say that. No one's gonna be like.

00:17:47
Speaker 4: Oh no, do you think this team can still be really special? No?

00:17:52
Speaker 6: I don't know, not really little. I tried to not be negative during the five wins game win streak. I still felt like I was a little bit of luck and fool's gold the way they want a couple of those. I didn't want to be a downer though, because it was fun watching them. But I just don't see this team accomplishing much.

00:18:07
Speaker 4: Never are they gonna make the tournament. Still projected as a seventh.

00:18:11
Speaker 6: Seed, I still see them having a big game and maybe winning one that they weren't supposed to, which would go a long way. I think you have to the tournament.

00:18:18
Speaker 4: I think you have to win. I think if you assume they beat Oklahoma and South Carolina, they're still gonna have to win two games where they're probably gonna go into it as an underdog.

00:18:29
Speaker 5: Where are the two wins?

00:18:31
Speaker 4: The easiest two would probably be Georgia at home, Fandy at home. That's probably your path to eighteen. That's the ort, and maybe Tennessee at home, although they're playing a lot better, but that's that's probably ryan your easiest path.

00:18:44
Speaker 5: I I want to believe. I want to, and I thought they'd finally figured it out in the five game win Street, but then we went right back to that team that I don't like. I just it's this is not a one off thing. This has been happening all season where they'll just look like they have no clue what they're doing offense. Especially.

00:19:00
Speaker 2: Did you really just say you think Vandy's gonna be the easiest way?

00:19:04
Speaker 4: I do, because I actually think we should. Yes, I mean again, I didn't say easiest, but what's easier The two games against Florida at Arkansas at Auburn.

00:19:13
Speaker 3: Florida looked horrible. The other night at home they did.

00:19:15
Speaker 4: But I don't think you can judge these things game to game. I think it's a big I still think on paper we don't match up poorly with Vandy. Now, I mean we might if it does seem ridiculous. I understand what Shandon's say to lose by twenty five and go, hey, that's the one we can win. But I do think that game shouldn't have been like that. Bigger picture, Okay, just Mark Pope in general? Are you confident that in five years we can have contended for a title with Mark Pope as the coach? I mean, ultimately, that's the question. Put this year aside. The question more is a bigger picture? Can you win a title with Mark Pope as your coach at Kentucky? I think if we were here yet last year, we would have said the answer is definitely yes.

00:20:05
Speaker 6: Do you still feel that way now? I'm gonna say no, you don't. I mean, I don't even know if we're gonna have a team next year. And then I think, you know, you don't have to be the cow Patino type. Just screaming. But you gotta have a little dog in you. And I had several people I knew at that game, Western Kentucky people down there texting me NonStop. Pope has not raised his voice once. Pope has not talked to the players in the huddle. And it's things like that worry me more than injuries, even recruiting. It's like, does he even have the capability to fire people up, because when they're saying he hasn't even he's not even speaking to them and they're down twenty or he hasn't raised his voice, that's the time you should be chewing them out.

00:20:44
Speaker 5: I'm hanging on, but barely. I'm starting to question it. For the first time, I think since the Vanning game, I really am starting to question whether.

00:20:51
Speaker 6: Why was that game the one that did it.

00:20:53
Speaker 5: I think it's not just the fact they lost, it's how they lost. And it's happened again and again and again this season. Roster construction, poor grade, coaching this year, poor grade, off fiftive, execution, poor grade. There's a lot of things to be negative about. So for the first time, to answer your question, I think I'm really starting to question it.

00:21:12
Speaker 4: I'm willing to put this year in a in a well, first of all, I'm Shannon, what's your answer.

00:21:17
Speaker 3: We can win a national title with Pope?

00:21:18
Speaker 4: Yeah?

00:21:19
Speaker 3: No, I don't think so.

00:21:20
Speaker 4: All right, so there's two people.

00:21:21
Speaker 6: Know you're a Maybe.

00:21:25
Speaker 4: I'm not as negative as you all, but I'm moving in a negative direction.

00:21:31
Speaker 6: I'm gonna put this year just in in the can.

00:21:34
Speaker 4: Okay. I mean I still think we can make the tournament. You make the tournament, you win a game or two. So I'm but I this year is a disaster in a lot of respects. They did a lot of things wrong. They constructed this roster poorly. Pope. I don't know what Pope has been through, like the eight stages of mental anguish through the year. It's been really bizarre just watching him this year. Put it to the side because I'm just gonna say, look, this didn't work right. I'm more worried about next year. I was talking about I don't know who's on the team next year. I mean, if you made me, say, Matt, give me one human being on this planet, it's guaranteed to be on that basketball team next year.

00:22:24
Speaker 5: Rhyese Potter.

00:22:25
Speaker 4: I'm not why. Yeah, the only person I mean I would have high confidence in Moreno, but I wouldn't guarantee. I don't think you can guarantee one person on the basketball team next year. So and next year, I think we all agree is gonna be a make or break year for him.

00:22:46
Speaker 6: You can't lose your whole roster and have no one set up right now in January, there's a bunch of nothing on.

00:22:52
Speaker 4: What makes me nervous is I have no idea who's gonna play for Kentucky next year or if anyone is well. That's to take a calls very bad KSR.

00:23:06
Speaker 8: TJ.

00:23:06
Speaker 4: Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

00:23:09
Speaker 8: He'll make them pay.

00:23:10
Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:14
Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:15
Speaker 4: Running back Tukey sports Radio text machine full of people shanning with a lot to say. One person writes, this is eight five, nine, two hundred. I'm not gonna read the other numbers. Okay, Well, of these days you all will learn to listen to me. I said it when he was hired, that it was the wrong call. We should learn to listen.

00:23:34
Speaker 5: We should always listen to person of accent.

00:23:36
Speaker 4: He's the only person that said that was eight five nine, two hundred. There were other people that said it. Matter of fact, almost everybody said it. The night that happened.

00:23:44
Speaker 6: I tweeted it and I still left it up.

00:23:46
Speaker 4: And then we all kind of flipped, and we flipped because.

00:23:50
Speaker 3: He played with the fills. What he did, he got in the fields.

00:23:53
Speaker 4: But also, I mean I started to believe like I talked to myself into it. Now I don't think that's necessarily wrong.

00:24:00
Speaker 6: We got caught up in the BYU highlights too. Some of those YouTube videos make them look like the greatest thing that that YouTube video.

00:24:07
Speaker 4: That YouTube video did look good. I will second, but I also don't listen. He was the coach at that point. What good does it do to sit here and say, well, there's no way this is gonna work. Also, people don't know. I mean sometimes you think of press con like, who could do worse at a press conference than Liam Cohen did?

00:24:22
Speaker 5: Dude?

00:24:24
Speaker 4: And they're in the playoffs, right. Nick Siriani sounded like he had been dropped off a planet of weirdness, and he won the super Bowl right in the ball. And then there are guys who come in and kill the press conference and don't win, like you never I mean on some level, you never know.

00:24:40
Speaker 5: And I feel like what he did last year was pretty amazing considering anybody had up. Again, we got to build a roster in two weeks of staff and he made.

00:24:47
Speaker 4: The Sweet sixteen. I mean one of the things. Now, now this is the case for everybody who goes, well, he's gonna he shouldn't be here. I think all those people have got to slow slow their role. One season is over or we went to the Sweet sixteen. This season is not even close to over. Now, we don't necessarily think it's gonna go great, but what if they make the tournament, he goes to Sweet sixteen again, it's gonna look ridiculous. Yes, for people to have said he should.

00:25:14
Speaker 6: Be let go at that point, right, Yeah, And I don't have faith in him, But you can't just start firing people every two years. No one's ever gonna take the job.

00:25:20
Speaker 4: We also owe like Mark Stoop's nine hundred million dollars. We're trying to build an apple, but he's out at the football stadium.

00:25:29
Speaker 6: I hope that's what it is.

00:25:31
Speaker 5: Good in the neighborhood.

00:25:31
Speaker 4: But I mean we're trying to build, like we we owe twenty million dollars in rev Share, Like we get, we owe a lot of money to stuff, so we can't just be like just firing everybody at the drop of a hat.

00:25:43
Speaker 5: So let me talk to you about something that Jack Givens said this point on Tom Leech, and it goes along what we're talking about with Pope and coaching. He says, it's been happening in practice. He said, you know, he goes a lot of practices. It's like he's kind of alluding to they don't practice hard, they don't prepare the right way. To me, that's more on the coaches, I think than that.

00:25:59
Speaker 4: I trust Jack. He did, and I trust Jack. If Jack says that, I think he's he's one hundred percent accurate. And if that's accurate, that's not good. Mark has some splaining to do at the end of the year, and I will do whatever I can to get him on here to have it. And he needs to like that that he needs to answer this is not worked and the not playing well and the not playing hard. You know, sometimes guys aren't as good as you thought. But you can play hard. You can play hard. You can play hard. I think there's only one I'll be honest with you, there's only one player on the team that I think has played hard all year, and that's Aberdeen. Not played well, not played well all year, but I think he's played hard all year, and to some extent, I would even say Malachi as well. Everybody else their effort fluctuates so much depending on the situation. I do feel like Aberdeen plays hard all the time, just not always well. And Malachi I think plays hard. So these other guys, man, I don't know what you're gonna get for him on a give from on a given bet.

00:27:06
Speaker 5: So what was your take When Jimmy Dyke said during the broadcast, he said, one thing youn say about Kentucky to night, they're getting blown out?

00:27:10
Speaker 4: I thought, I love Jimmy. I don't know what the hell he was talking about.

00:27:13
Speaker 5: I thought, what are you are you watching the same game.

00:27:15
Speaker 4: I don't know what he was talking about. Even Pope said they didn't play hard. I mean, I think Jimmy was trying to trying to say something nice because he knew ninety percent of the people watching her Kentucky people.

00:27:25
Speaker 6: But I don't know what he was talking I think I think that's it. Jimmy was doing his best, like I'm trying to find anything positive to say here.

00:27:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, it didn't make sense to me. Who's up first? Shit, it's noa, Noah, go ahead.

00:27:36
Speaker 7: And Noah, hey man, thank you guys to saying McCall and wings day. Noah appreciate it. I had him idea. I called him the pregame show. Cannon seemed to like my idea for so I thought I'd give it up to you guys. We've had a little bit of like I don't know at the beginning, before the year started, the whole controversy a little bit with the BBN United with like being able to pay what seems to me pretty sumptuous ahouse of money to be able to get these little incentives and fun thing which just seemed fun but also at the same time, So what's your idea? So my idea for it is, why not have a I don't know how much money, probably a good amount, but for someone random fan to be able to come in before as a pregame, before the game, go to the locker room with players and give them the speech of their lifetime to actually get because that.

00:28:28
Speaker 4: Would be a horrible because if you because if you, if you gave a bad speech, appreciate the call, or we lost. People will be mad at you. I don't think that's a good idea. Like, I'm all for fan experience, but there comes a point that no, I don't want you. Hey, everybody, let's have a contest. You get to be president for a day. No, No, let's not do that.

00:28:50
Speaker 5: I I like wings day. Noah, that's one of the worst ideas I've heard in a long time.

00:28:55
Speaker 3: I love it.

00:28:57
Speaker 2: I think for a fan to be able to go in there and have a passionate up talk speech, sometimes maybe that's what they need.

00:29:03
Speaker 4: This is a good idea.

00:29:05
Speaker 2: How many times have you thought, man, I care about this game more than what I feel.

00:29:09
Speaker 5: Like the play.

00:29:10
Speaker 4: Don't you think the players would laugh at you? Would would like they would Don't you think the players would just roll their eyes when you went in there and started and.

00:29:18
Speaker 2: Then they apparently have a bad attitude to begin with. Maybe your pep talk would change their opinion. Okay, I'll tell you what I'll do that No, I'm not doing a pep talk.

00:29:25
Speaker 4: No, no, no, okay, I didn't say here's what I'll do if we don't play well against Arkansas Saturday, next week, I will allow like three random fans to call in and give the pep talk they were going to give, and we will collectively decide if we think that would work.

00:29:43
Speaker 5: I like that, I like that, I like it.

00:29:47
Speaker 4: Or I might even go further. I might have Mario go and film someone doing it if they're really like, film someone giving the pep talk there, and then we could see if we think that would work.

00:30:00
Speaker 5: I'm telling you, some dude walked in there.

00:30:02
Speaker 4: You imagine Bob and Jamestown walked that in and tried to give a pep talk?

00:30:05
Speaker 6: Is he wearing that jacket?

00:30:06
Speaker 4: Yes?

00:30:06
Speaker 6: See what would happen? Most most people would get in there, see the team and buckle and uh.

00:30:13
Speaker 4: Or they would be overly confident and it would be bad.

00:30:19
Speaker 6: Pope. For what are we talking about? Mark Pope needs to be doing this.

00:30:22
Speaker 3: That's true, he should already be firing.

00:30:24
Speaker 4: By the way, we don't see a lot of videos of the pregame and halftime speeches.

00:30:28
Speaker 6: We haven't seen one since the Auburn game last year, and it still lives in my head when he was going over a spreadsheet. If you do thirty percent of this, that gives us a one point seven point advantage for possession. Now, if you do seventy five percent this and hold them to ten percent fat and then Bruce Pearl was just running through a brick wall.

00:30:45
Speaker 5: I think it's way too much analytics right before game man, and just go out and just playball. You know the assignment, you know this kind of report. Just go out and play.

00:30:53
Speaker 4: If they're gonna do analytics, can we do the analytic that does not have us take all the starters out four minutes into the game and then look at a ten oh run for the other team.

00:31:02
Speaker 5: That would be a pretty good move.

00:31:03
Speaker 4: I believe that analytic has not worked for a year and a half. Right, who's up next, Emily, Emily, go ahead, Emily.

00:31:12
Speaker 9: Hello.

00:31:12
Speaker 10: Congratulations to y'all on your ratings.

00:31:15
Speaker 6: Thank you, female listener of KOs owner.

00:31:20
Speaker 10: I just wanted to call in today. This is a little off topic, but to pay tribute to a really awesome Kentucky Wildcat fan, mister Don ring Staff. He's in the KHSAA Hall of Fame for many things, basketball player and as a coach.

00:31:37
Speaker 9: He's kind of a local.

00:31:39
Speaker 10: Legend in western Kentucky, Livingston County. But even more than that, he was just a legendary human being.

00:31:46
Speaker 9: So I just wanted to call.

00:31:49
Speaker 4: In and did he pass away?

00:31:51
Speaker 6: Did he pass away yesterday?

00:31:52
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, yesterday.

00:31:55
Speaker 4: Well, God bless him and you and his family and friends, and I appreciate you calling, and we'll be praying for.

00:32:02
Speaker 6: All of them.

00:32:04
Speaker 10: I just want to say, for anybody who likes, you know, Kentucky basketball history, look him up. His stats are awesome and you can find those at wes Ky basketball dot com.

00:32:15
Speaker 4: And what's his name again?

00:32:18
Speaker 10: Don Rings Staff.

00:32:19
Speaker 4: Don Ring stuff? All right, Thank you very much me and I appreciate you. We In addition to that call, we had a lot of calls yesterday of people sending me their UK merchandise.

00:32:30
Speaker 5: Yes.

00:32:31
Speaker 4: Uh. The weirdest one was the one that I retweeted today that looked to be UK Bloomer women's underwear and it said, uh, I am behind the wildcats on the boat. First of all, you don't see that cut of underwear quite very much anymore.

00:32:51
Speaker 6: And did a woman some that or a man that's I think it was a man that's in Now that that's another thing.

00:32:55
Speaker 4: Why do you have that?

00:32:56
Speaker 5: Why do you keep it that around?

00:32:58
Speaker 6: Why do you have that?

00:32:59
Speaker 3: They don't in particular look to be clean either.

00:33:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the other thing. They're a little dirty, They're a little bit they could at least use a bleach.

00:33:08
Speaker 6: Ryan's next dares to put those on.

00:33:11
Speaker 4: But that is that is an amazing thing that was at some point made. I'm behind the wildcats.

00:33:18
Speaker 5: I've never seen those and I don't look at it here. I saw the tweet. I've seen it. They have accompanying diapers with them.

00:33:25
Speaker 4: They weren't accompanying. That was different the UK diapers.

00:33:27
Speaker 6: I've seen UK.

00:33:28
Speaker 4: I've seen UK diapers before. I'd never seen that.

00:33:31
Speaker 6: In fine print with the copyright, it says nineteen sixty three.

00:33:35
Speaker 4: Nineteen sixty three. Well, it says, so they were making UK women's underwear in nineteen sixty three. This guy still got and that got kept it for sixty years, wears them every.

00:33:47
Speaker 3: Day, Lucky underwear.

00:33:50
Speaker 5: Wow, oh when we find out he wears those for every game where he's Lucky underwear.

00:33:55
Speaker 6: Okay, why are we putting it on him? He just owns them. Why it's one step closer to wearing them.

00:34:01

We'll take a break and be right back here at ksbar and grill. Wake up, Mario, this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Why you got your welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. All Right? You know, Ryan, I like random sports from around the world. That gets your soul pumping. You love it, all right, So let me explain to you what happened yesterday. I need to give you the content. Okay, all right. The Champions League. You know what that is. That's where the best teams from all the countries play each other. Hey, like a tournament, playing a tournament, but it's like a thing where you have pool play first. Okay, So now you play eight games. Yesterday was mas Day eight, which means like you're in or out after this one. The top teams move on the bottom teams go down. They all play it once so that you don't know what everybody else is doing. All right, So Benfica, Benfica is in Portugal. They had had a poor qualified and they were playing Real Madrid at home, the best team, right, and they needed to win, and everybody was like, well, they're not gonna win. So they play the game. They're winning three to two in extra time, but crazy results are happening everywhere else, and because of the results, they need to not only win. They're celebrating because they've won, but they realize, no, winning is not enough. We have to score another goal. We have to win by two. They don't find out the announcers and the viewers at home and I'm watching this, No, they need to win by two, but you can tell they don't know. They're basically holding the ball, Shannon. They're like, we've already won. What a great win. And then all of a sudden, you can tell, with like a minute left, someone tells the coach and the players, we've got to score another goal, and you see the panic in their face. All right, there's one play left. They're winning, but they bring their goalie and they tell him come down here. We all have to we have to score another goal. So there's one play. If they score a goal, they move on. If they don't, and they're playing the best team, let me throw in another thing. Their coach is Jose Marino. Jose Marino is a legendary coach, used to coach Real Madrid, used to coach Benfica's rival in Portugal. He calls himself. Can you imagine someone calling themself the special one? That's his name for himself, Shannon. He calls himself the special one. He is, but he can you imagine if like, you know, I don't know, Bill self was like, I'm the special one. That's what he did with So he's on the sidelines. This is all a setup. Now this is in Spanish. You don't even know what they're gonna say, but you don't need to know. This is in Portugal. Benfica. One play. The goalie is the one they kicked the ball to. Here's what happens. Turn it off.

00:37:19
Speaker 8: I want that house, get us see us.

00:38:08
Speaker 4: There you go? Grossis portando champions. If that doesn't make the hair grow, goosebumps grow up, that's what sports is. The goalie gets the header to win the game. And they move on. I was watching live. Might have been one of the most exciting things I've ever seen. You gotta look at the video the state. It's on my Twitter. The stadium loses their mind and the special one starts pumping his hands towards the crowd.

00:38:34
Speaker 5: I don't have any idea what he said, but I got caught up in the moment and you can hear the crowd man.

00:38:38
Speaker 4: Then the crowd loses it because the crowd had celebrated earlier. They thought they were gonna get this amazing upset, and then they realized, with like a minute left, oh no, it's not enough. And then they get it and they have that moment of joy. I would have given anything to be in that stadium. It looks like absolute bedroom.

00:38:58
Speaker 6: And from a just a soccer standpoint, was a deep free kick into a crowd like everyone was packed into that box and the goalie, of all people.

00:39:06
Speaker 4: People, the goalie.

00:39:07
Speaker 6: If that goes out of bounds, the whistlerybody goes home. That was literally the final second.

00:39:12
Speaker 4: Sham, and they showed the goalie had played soccer for nine years as a professional, he had never one time touched the ball on the other side of the field.

00:39:20
Speaker 5: Oh it makes it even better.

00:39:21
Speaker 3: Shut right off the side of his head, right.

00:39:23
Speaker 4: And right off the side of his head into the goal. It's pouring rain and you gotta see it. For the special ones, I mean the special one is he's talking all this trash because it's his former team.

00:39:34
Speaker 6: I think the goalie can call himself the special Now, if you've only cross midfield once and you scored extra time to put your team into the Champions.

00:39:42
Speaker 4: League, it's pretty It was.

00:39:43
Speaker 6: It was awesome.

00:39:44
Speaker 4: I'm telling you it was. It was and I just happened to have it on and it was great. That was one of the coolest things I've seen.

00:39:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, you can get caught up in the moment, have no idea who these teams are, but you just get caught up in the moment. I loved the call of the goal.

00:39:54
Speaker 6: It was awesome.

00:39:55
Speaker 4: I love that now that all the Spanish announcers just say go and just do it for thirty second, that's great.

00:40:01
Speaker 6: You don't need to know Spanish. The passion in their voice, you can't help but smile and get excited.

00:40:04
Speaker 7: Me.

00:40:04
Speaker 4: I think, by the way, Tom Leech should do that. He should just like when Malachi made a shot. Just go I think I would enjoy it. Who's up next, Connor? Connor? Go ahead, Connor.

00:40:16
Speaker 9: Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Congratulations on the ratings. You'all totally deserve it. It's my favorite show.

00:40:23
Speaker 4: Real quick.

00:40:23
Speaker 9: I live in Payble, Arkansas. Pray for me on me and my buddies are crazy Razor Pig fans. They'll be going with me to this game this weekend.

00:40:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, good luck. I will be thinking about you.

00:40:37
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's gonna be a rough. When I went to the Oklahoma Arkansas game down the street the other night, the wild game Arkansas, they dropped to the whole lot man when they can't hit the three. They that a cuff guy is real good.

00:40:49
Speaker 6: So I feel like we really need to.

00:40:50
Speaker 7: Have Aberdeen on him.

00:40:53
Speaker 4: Yep.

00:40:53
Speaker 9: I was just gonna say, pray for me for that game. But also I'm driving up for the Oklahoma game next week. I saw there's snow coming through Lexington.

00:41:01
Speaker 7: Is that true?

00:41:03
Speaker 4: I don't know next week snow?

00:41:05
Speaker 5: Is that what they're saying? More snow coming? I think Wednesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

00:41:09
Speaker 4: I believe us all that, and then we play Oklahoma on Wednesday day. So there you go yes, well, be careful, appreciate, appreciate the uh, the call. We'll be in San Francisco. You can handle the snow.

00:41:21
Speaker 5: I am like this guy. I think we need to pray for everybody. This game Saturday could be Do you think.

00:41:25
Speaker 4: It's good to do you think you give us any chance? I give us a small chance. Cal can lay an.

00:41:31
Speaker 6: Egg Arkansas does not scare me one bit except for a cuff. Cal didn't scare me. That entire roster doesn't scare me, but a cuff is. I've watched him a lot tough.

00:41:41
Speaker 4: He's good. He is. He's one of you know we talk about how Cow's teams are good when they get the point guard. They got the point guard.

00:41:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, he's he's real. It's probably your sec player of the year. And he he can drive. He has threes. His assistant turnover ratio is crazy. He plays defense.

00:41:56
Speaker 4: But you have a party here, Cala Perry versus Lem bring it on watch Saturday night.

00:42:03
Speaker 5: Knock his button down.

00:42:05
Speaker 4: I'm expecting you to bring us home a victory.

00:42:07
Speaker 5: Okay, we got it. Let's pack the place, let's get it going in. Here could be an exciting day. Here's ks barn girls be a part of it.

00:42:12
Speaker 4: Wasn't that exciting here Tuesday night when we lost, Like that's not a people come out at night.

00:42:17
Speaker 5: Nine o'clock and then you're down by twenty they.

00:42:19
Speaker 4: We're down by twenty.

00:42:21
Speaker 5: We're going late.

00:42:22
Speaker 4: Well, it was good to see y'all. Check it out. Did they have school today?

00:42:27
Speaker 5: No?

00:42:27
Speaker 4: Still no, no, we'll take a break, Mary backs ks r.
