[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to Bergen with Brad.
[SPEAKER_00]: The views and opinions shared on the bourbon with Brad podcast are our own, and those of our guests.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing we discussed should be taken as financial, legal, business, or gambling advice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't make investment, business, or betting decisions based on our conversations as you should always talk to a qualified professional.
[SPEAKER_00]: Always drink responsibly, never drink and drive, and only consume alcohol if you are of legal drinking age.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good morning, it is May 8th Friday, good morning, Friday, this day is a little famous for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, this was the day I got married the first time, oh, back in 99, yeah, or 01, I forget, but now this is May 8th.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what are you guys doing to celebrate tomorrow?
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a ship of sale just it's interesting.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just on on me.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh, well, that's that day and it's good to remember that anniversary.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll try that for you
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, carry on.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just messing with you, you know, that period of time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a little good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Your current wife is one of the sweetest ladies I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I definitely very fond of her.
[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, if we can talk around to this show one times, what they have both of our wives on the show one of these times though, that could be that being an interesting urban conversation.
[SPEAKER_01]: That fifth segment could be epic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
[SPEAKER_02]: So, well, it's a way to work on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to let you do the planning on that, all right?
[SPEAKER_01]: But the AI had lines or pop-in, that's an understatement.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it just doesn't stop.
[SPEAKER_01]: Does it?
[SPEAKER_01]: It does not.
[SPEAKER_01]: So NVIDIA's cutting deals out there, and they just cut a deal with one of the largest Australian companies.
[SPEAKER_01]: I ran.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's a five gigabyte AI deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: infrastructure partnership.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's an iron.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, iron, even though there's been some, you know, massive data center delays that we talked about, this, you know, the hyperscaling demand for GPUs still seems to be there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And certainly this is a, this company needs to be called iris.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, there's another, you know, company out there named iron too, but this is the Australian iron company.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they are a large language model developer.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, iron is actually an energy provider.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're going to be provided in the energy and they're cutting the deal with it for five gigabytes and they may be very well might be getting into the data in a world tour, maybe we're possibly leasing that out, so you know, obviously the energy is the hardest source to come by.
[SPEAKER_01]: So once you have that, and you got the chips, you got two of the,
[SPEAKER_01]: two of the pieces of gold.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's for sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the key to the temple is not too hard again to it from there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just wonder that I'd never heard of that company before.
[SPEAKER_02]: I either thought I've heard of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I had neither, but, you know, it doesn't mean it's not significant.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just out of our, out of our country, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Iron, I, I, R, I, R, E, N, E, N. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, arm, ARM.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got all these, you know, irin, arm, throwing all these things out at you on a Friday morning that, uh, amount of wake yet, new more coffee.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're, they're stocked today, uh, slide it, uh, or sled yesterday, uh, fueled by revenue forecasts, even though, uh, they weren't, uh, that the chip supply constraints.
[SPEAKER_01]: are overshadowing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like the backwards thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're saying that demand is so strong and it's so hard to get these chips.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of overshadowing that the demand is there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there they're stock actually slipped because they can't produce what is being asked for.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
[SPEAKER_01]: And armed for those that don't know, their chips are in just about every cell phone out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that market has actually kind of slid backwards as the GPU market has, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: But who knows, you know, especially with the opening, I'm getting ready to deploy all their cell phones.
[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about the other day, that may kick back up as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't imagine that opening eyes, the only one considering getting into the cell phone business out of all the big ones there, well, if they do it, and it works, you know, they're all going to jump on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's Microsoft and the next is, you know, is the, you know, the rest of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: apples on should be worried.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that could definitely affect them, but they're still holding pretty strong.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're going to get into that to make a great product.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: A couple of key things.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we talked about the batteries.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Last the other morning.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's, that's a big, it's a big deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Battery the stars.
[SPEAKER_02]: A thousand dollars mean.
[SPEAKER_02]: I could buy a laptop cheaper than this phone cost.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and you know, you're paying for the
[SPEAKER_02]: the fact that you can't replace the battery.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I know why they do it.
[SPEAKER_02]: It makes sense from a business standpoint, but that doesn't help the consumer.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it doesn't sooner or later, when another option comes along, that's, you know, droids come a long way.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm still in a huge fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: They do work better.
[SPEAKER_02]: They hold the charge better all the time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard that from just whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, droid user, but you know, the Apple kind of gets you when they got you.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you buy on the whole the vertical line, you know, when you have a Mac, when you have your iPad, when you have your I watch, you know, and you go right down the line of all the different products, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's easy.
[SPEAKER_02]: They all integrate.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do.
[SPEAKER_01]: They do integrate.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the strongest suit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be interesting to see how that kind of all, you know, plays out.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the cell phone, I don't think they need to force your hand into buying it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The technology is advancing so quickly.
[SPEAKER_01]: People are just going to tend to want to get it, you know?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's good to see the European Union put their foot on that the other day.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be interesting to see where that goes.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I will definitely look at it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, here you are.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a consumer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, those goods.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Aren't we all?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So open AI's $18 billion abroad can broadcast AI chip deal hits a financing snag.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you know that that may be a little bit of a delay, but you know they're getting so much money infused.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't imagine that it's going to be a financing delay for a long in my opinion.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's one of the largest chip deals ever, and at 18 billion dollars, and it's going to be bringing out, and it could be slowing down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Open AI's next gen frontier models that we've been talking about, so we know that every version that comes out, and open AI just released their version, which has had high praises.
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, we're going to get into that in our weekly podcast, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's coming out on Monday.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to see, you know, some of the differences.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if there are new ships that they're coming on to kind of stay in that race, it's a tight, neck-to-neck race among some of these, you know, platforms.
[SPEAKER_01]: And to fall behind, you know, you have to have
[SPEAKER_01]: All these different factors, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to have the energy, you have to have the power.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to have the local communities that are willing to allow that infrastructure to get built.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then you have to have the chips.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just the GPU anymore, you know, and then, you know, it's not just the memory chips, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these frontier models are getting into the memory where they're going to remember things.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we get into the sentience stuff of all that stuff, so it's a cool time.
[SPEAKER_01]: What people don't realize in the infrastructure world, too, is the transformers, which
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, those are those are bottlenecks.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I could probably talk about that when he was on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it's that's in the in the turbines.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, even just to generate the power to run the data centers that needs the chips that can't count.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's becoming a challenge.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is?
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in GE even over our biggest, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: domestic producer of these turbines, you know, is basically sold out for the next five to six years.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, if you're looking to get into the gas turbine, as a solution, you have to either find second-hand ones, or you have to go to a different maker, possibly overseas, and with China right now, and the AI race, you know, that could be an issue.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and our government's position on tariffs and everything else, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So that makes it more expensive, something that's already expensive to build.
[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of these energy companies and those that are looking to build behind the meter are looking at the micro grids in the micro turbines.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so that's a different business and there's a lot more manufacturers of the smaller turbines, you know, the 30
[SPEAKER_01]: mega-watt to 50 to 60, even up to 150 mega-watt.
[SPEAKER_01]: That sounds like a lot, but when you compare it to the 700 mega-watt, Thurabines that you even know, was deploying just like Homer City plant here in the Urbach yard.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big difference, but you can still, you know, the electric grid doesn't know the difference, you know, they tie in and they produce the same energy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you sent me this article this morning, and that was the anthropic.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want you to tell us what's happening with that pair.
[SPEAKER_02]: So apparently, and Thropic entered into a deal with, is it ex-corporation or space X, is that the parent company?
[SPEAKER_02]: XE, I space X, and XE, and Elon Musk to basically, they are going to completely take over, or at least all the computing power at this gig of facilities, building in Texas.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not getting rid of the name of the, but the one that's been in the news,
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a 2 million square feet or some huge data center.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anthropic has worked out a deal with Elon Musk to lease every bit of computing power from that entire plant.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Elon's building this through SpaceX.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that jumped and started interrupted.
[SPEAKER_02]: That jumped Anthropics MarketCap to 1.3 mill.
[SPEAKER_02]: Bill, yeah, 1.3 trillion dollars in a week.
[SPEAKER_01]: We were just talking about that four or five segments ago.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's unbelievable.
[SPEAKER_01]: How did the three biggest IPOs are sitting at the brink and the current valuation of anthropic just crossed over the one trillion mark?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And with one deal, it just pushed it another 300 billion.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the only thing gets me here and I kind of scratched my head and maybe there's something more to this deal that we don't know in the public release, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is why isn't Elon using this for his own powering needs?
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I thought the same thing, I mean, does he, he's obviously a pretty sharp guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, does he, does he see some,
[SPEAKER_02]: that there's more value there, building it and, and leasing it out than than utilizing it himself.
[SPEAKER_02]: I can't imagine.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, same thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, you know, you do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have grock.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have his Tesla's.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have the human noise that are coming out that are all going to be AI integrated, you know, and beyond, although I hadn't considered.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, this could be a thumb in the, in the eye of open AI possibly or is that kind of where I'm getting it is there may be a deal a merger maybe maybe an IPO between anthropic and SpaceX coming down the pipe and I don't know this is all speculation from the brush from a guy that's talking with a bunch of death wish coffee coming through and and gosh darn it I could really use it from now on.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, I hadn't considered that angle because right now he's got a bit of an extra grind with opening out.
[SPEAKER_01]: He definitely knows open AI and he does and would have better acts to grind than the guy that can't even shake hands with his former with his former colleague from open AI.
[SPEAKER_02]: Although the only counter argument to that is his lawsuit is all about
[SPEAKER_02]: open AI being open.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess if he figures if he can bankrupt them, it would be open.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think Elon, it's cut throw bit is and he thinks and moves several steps ahead.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, pretty much everybody else is why.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of where I was thinking there, Perry, you know, there's something more to this story than really meets the eyes.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a negotiation going on?
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
[SPEAKER_01]: coming out that, you know, there could be a conglomerate where he's saying, hey, anthropic, you guys are the best.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to hire a team that's doing exactly what you guys are doing and it just isn't working quite as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: We realize that and everybody's going to see that and or if they watch our podcast this week that's coming out where I'm comparing the six different platforms, including grok and and
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, he's he's not one to sit back and let himself be second.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's 100% and he, you know, that old saying the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's exactly what this is right here.
[SPEAKER_01]: So keep an eye on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's all, let's all watch really that goes.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you heard her here on May 8th on a Friday, down in the old Indiana Burben Studios, drinking the Death Wish Coffee.
[SPEAKER_01]: Perry and I just think we feel we solved the the mystery, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go and jump in our Scooby
[SPEAKER_02]: you're you're an attorney what what's that does that put his whole lawsuit at risk at all like I mean does that as I can all not all that it has nothing to do with it he he's never said that he was going to be a non-profit
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the non-profit is opening.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he, okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so he's making the claim that, hey, if he could even say, see, I want to get this is for profit.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I'm engaging in this steel already.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I could, like I said, he moves several steps ahead of everything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing I could see it, like you said earlier, is him trying to spite the Sam Altman and Greg Brockman by helping out his, their biggest full right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty funny.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that may be it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That just may be it right at this moment, but I think there's more to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, that's why you get the disclaimer on our podcast because I know nothing when it comes to financials.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, we had talked a little bit about crypto headlines too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, those are the major headlines kind of rounding off the week.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh,
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the crypto, you know, since yesterday has been a boom and again, you know, it was pushing 85, you know, from 82, it's got a little bit of a positive momentum going.
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the institutional money stole still flowing around, you know, analysts warned that it, uh, it is hitting some major resistance there, though, so, you know, Bitcoin, you're talking about Bitcoin, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Bitcoin, I'm talking about Bitcoin, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so hitting some resistance and we'll see it's been kind of a bouncing ball for the last, I don't know how many months it goes up a little bit, comes back down, goes up a little bit, comes back down.
[SPEAKER_01]: So is it going to be the same old or is this the final, finally the breakout that we're you know, hoping to see coming, you know, come through and and you know, it could be.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, I remember 2017, the company I worked for got
[SPEAKER_02]: ransomware, they, they, they got a hold of the owner's computer.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how that'll work, but they, so they sent him, they, they locked down all his files and everything else, cyber security nightmare.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is 2017.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's what they're 19, 19, or nine years ago.
[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_02]: So so.
[SPEAKER_02]: the payment that they wanted was one bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, now on our IT director came down and said they're demanding one bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, what the hell's a bit?
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a bit coin.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was worth $5,000 in 2017.
[SPEAKER_02]: We negotiated it down to, I think, a quarter of a bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: We paid like 700 bucks and we got the stuff back and then we moved it off-site.
[SPEAKER_02]: But
[SPEAKER_02]: But the moral of story is, in nine years ago, that coin that doesn't even really exist, that's now worth 80, 90,000, and it was over 100,000.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was really popping for a while, and there are folks out there that are heavily invested, and a couple of things that are heavily invested, and also folks, but they're creating funds that are designed around it like we talked about yesterday, and,
[SPEAKER_01]: Crazy and they they forecast you know, and again, it's the guy a little bit of a bias opinion on it, but they forecast it could go to you in this close to a million dollars because of you know as the as the as the as the mining of it Wendell's down and every time they mine it gets a little smaller little smaller little smaller or left and there's and there's a limited supply so Again goes back to the supply demand curve who wants it and
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, the argument on the counter argument on crypto of always has been, you know, is it just a big Ponzi scheme where it's just a circular, uh, you know, you're trying to funnel the next buyer, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, but there there is utility now, and that's that was the major.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the major, I think eye opener that you want to see is that there is utility in that the bank see the future of financial transactions being digital.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the United States Treasury right now, at least one of this current administration sees it being that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: The genius act, this is the first tip of the hat that the regulations are starting to get behind it, even though that they.
[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of people feel like they'll still need to tighten up a bit to protect the consumer to protect the businesses that are transacting hasn't that hurt crypto because crypto was supposed to be something that wasn't moderated or you know governed by our government or regulated by our government was supposed to be a hedge against
[SPEAKER_02]: That's very thin.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's very thin.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like the opening.
[SPEAKER_01]: I argument, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's against everything while we create it in the first place, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to be this one-on-one transaction where we take the middle guy out of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: There is no treasury in between, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the big money pockets are making themselves the treasury.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they are kind of like the Federal Reserve Bank by holding these significant funds.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about the Ether and fund yesterday holding all those coins.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's a significant amount of dollar value.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, tons.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, on the other crypto headline that's making waves is that the, you know, the U.S. treasuries tightening pressure on Binance right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Binance is one of the other major crypto companies because they, there's claims that, uh, Iran may be funneling money into, uh, into, uh, into their, their coffers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if it is, it could be, uh,
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, obviously with the issues going on right now over and around, that could be an issue, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say it would be an issue.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so they're investigating into it on these alleged alliances.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're alleged claims, of course, you know, in Binance's, you know, I said that, tight, it's troubles over the years.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's, yeah, they've been around.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, I recognize that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they've been one of the longer, they, they haven't, you know, they have some longevity.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not just one of these new crypto companies that just popped up overnight.
[UNKNOWN]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: But those are the headlines today, and uh, as for it, it's, yeah, I know my big stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, but there's some, you know, things that I'm sure when we come back on Monday morning with the headlines over the weekend, crypto doesn't stop.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't sleep.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, unlike the stock market for those that don't dabble on it, it goes 24 seven.
[SPEAKER_01]: seven days a week.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and they'll say, yeah, I stopped this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're, it's going to be, I mean, I don't, I don't see it settling down anytime soon.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's no anyway, and when you play, when you know, when you get the crypto and the AI together, and you use the predictive, you know, capabilities of AI, because, you know,
[SPEAKER_01]: financial markets you know a lot of it comes down on who has the information and there's no better no better tool to use the naid we'll get that information that you're looking for that's probably out there and you can utilize a tier to your advantage to to make more intelligent you know and inform it and just you know I'm trading anyways great week yep great week we'll see everybody next week here we come you too this has been verbing with god be sure to like and follow cheers
