Mm hmm. Today is March fourth. I'm sorry. It's not your fault
that it's March. I'm sorry I did that. Why I moved the sun
again? No, I'm just I'm happy that it's March because it means that
daylight Savings is right around the corner. You love daylight saving and you know
what that means. I don't know. That's that's it's great savings. It
means that as someone who has to drive to and from, it means that
I might occasionally see the sun on my way home. I no, yes,
yes, we would be lighter later. Yeah, being at work after
it's dark is not. Yeah, totally driving home in the pitch black and
everything's thought gonna happen. Uh, that that is more likely to happen.
I don't mind that so much. It makes me feel like I'm being proactive.
It makes me feel like I'm up before the crack of dawn. It
makes get this day started. It makes me feel like I'm breaking the law,
because if you're waking up into still dark out, odds are you you're
gonna go do something? Yeah? Exactly. It's like they're these stop signs
are getting taken down. You need to go to an airport, mister flight
again breaking the law. Yeah, get the hell out of out of here.
Wait, so we're gonna washing my hair, dying, cutting and dying
my hair in a gas station sink, ripping my teeth out, my molars,
priest, yep, yeah, bring your fingerprints off. I don't have
to do that because I super glute them to my hands. Smart. Smart.
It's gonna pay off. Yeah, real, real, tough six months,
but but eventually I know it's coming. Yeah. I'm Jeff Gersman.
That's Vinny Caravella, Drew Scanlon and Brad Shoemaker and Hi, Hey, oh
hey Addy, what's up? You know not? You know? Cool?
Yeah? Do you think it's weird that some states within our union don't acknowledge
daylight savings? Hey? Look, there are some states in our union that
are total fucking bullshit for a lot of reasons. That you're when your when
your lines you're drawn in the sand. Yeah, that is definitely one of
them. If you're like not us, like fuck off? Isn't it just
Arizona? I thought there was a there's there's Arizona for sure than there are
when public he wrote that song. By the time I get to Arizona.
It was to protest that they don't support daylight savings. I think so.
I think that's what they were going out. Let's all get on the same
page as a nation. Yeah, yeah, that now is not the time
to be divided. We need to be let's let's spring forward together. Yeah,
it's the United States of America. There are fifty of them. We
need to be in lockstep on this people. That's why flavor flav where's that
clock? Right? Yep? He always needs to know what time it is.
He's like, oh shit, I need to set this an hour forward.
So annoying. Yeah, yeah, let's go to Arizona. No,
and we never have to, that's like, no, I'm okay. You
know what, last time I was in Arizona, a very long time ago,
I had a great time. Dry heat. It sounds like it's it
sounds like a bad place these days, but Arizona. Yeah, last time
I was in Arizona, I shot a shotgun into a punching bag. Great,
it was great. That's the last time, like a like a speed
bag or like a heavy bag, like a heavy bag. Okay, yeah,
there was like a there was a dryer out there too. Awesome.
Did you shoot the dryer? Yeah? That one? Was it a forty
four rifle with like the John Wayne freeway. You call this the cock Yeah,
you're making like a yeah, the lever action, that's what it's called.
Okay, yeah yeah, yeah cool, Yeah it was great. Yeah,
real bad punching bag problem Yeah, well the herd. Yeah, you
got a thin out that punching bags down there have basically gone Ferrell at this
point. The best part about shooting that punching bag with a shotgun was after
a while in the desert, after a while, it caught on fire.
Why I just combusted? I didn't even know you catch on fire. That
was just standing there. But there's something burned. Why did he catch what?
What you're using? Flame? What was the accelerant? Yeah? Flame?
Emmoh okay flame? Flame? Shot brought my wrists all the flame?
Mud, fireball? Did you have to even put it out? The desert?
Desert? Man, I don't let it burn desert. The desert is
made out of fire. Yeah, that's how you make a desert. Let's
go to Arizona. Yeah, you guys have really turned me around on this.
I'd like to know how much of Arizona is habitable, like there's like
two percent? Is it mostly desert? I don't know that big? Is
Maricopa County big big? Then you'll have your answer. Okay, okay,
well yeah, let's get into it as we talk about the last seven days
in I was gonna say in video games, but that's Drew. What's up.
How's it been going. What's the last week look like for you?
Uh? Since last we spoke because we do not speak during the week or
make eye contact as per your contract. Yeah, I've been doing a lot
of cooking, okay, with science mm hmm. Yeah that sounds like drugs.
Yeah, I followed tested dot com definitely drugs. Yeah. Yeah,
they're like, hey, guys, we got some new ways for you to
make coffee. Wink wink. I don't know. Will Smith looks like he
hasn't slept in about a year. Well there's a reason for that. Yeah,
Arizona again. Yeah, coming back up, what what sort of science
cooking have you been doing? Are you one of these Suvie motherfucker's? I
just got one of those. It sounds great. What is the thing everybody's
money It is called the Sands Sair? Yeah? Uh so, how much
it two hundred bucks. How do you spell sair air? Yeah? Oh
like without air. Yeah, but one word s A N S A I
R E M sounds far. Yeah. Yeah, so you just put French
fries in that thing, all right. So for people who haven't heard of
the concept, because it seems like it is just blowing up in certain circles.
But other people are like, what the fuck are you talking about?
You put meat in a bag and then heated up real slowly. Yeah,
yeah, it could be anything. I think people start doing it with vegetables
and stuff too. Sure. Eggs I saw, yes, I saw a
Southied egg that had been cooked for Oh my god, I want to this
can't be right. I want to say, like three days maybe is that
possible? Yeah? They people cooked for three days. Referenced towel with my
purchase that gives uh cooking times for various I'm sorry, a referenced towel.
Reference towel. So they've just written like times on a towel. H huh,
okay, no, I get it, Okay, go on. It's
basically a hot water bath, right, yeah, so it's yeah, it's
a hot water bath. But like, so you are putting the food in
a bag. Are you putting water in the bag and then putting the whole
water bag into water? The bag has to be vacuum sealed, okay,
close to it. I mean you could buy a vacuum sealer if you're a
crazy person. But I just take a ziplock bag, immerse it in the
water until the very top of the bag and that kind of squeezes all the
air. Then you just seal it and then yeah, the thing, the
machine heats it up and then keeps it at a level temperature, so you
can say, dial it into one thirty. Put your steak in this water
bath, and in an hour your steak will be one hundred and thirty degrees
all the way through, as opposed to like when you throw it on a
grill, you're super hot on the outside, but then you cut it open
and it's raw in the middle. I mean a lot of people don't have
that problem. I am terrible at cooking. Stay, yeah, totally.
I I charm on my apartment Like on a grill, it's a lot easier,
But I don't have a grill. Saying you don't like it raw in
the middle. What's the objective, man, I think we need to establish
the objective even cook. You don't like a rare steak that's even they cooked,
Yeah, you want it. You don't want to chart on the outside
and raw in the middle exactly. So what you do is you dial in
exactly to the point one place of a number that's called the tense place.
Okay, all right, okay, it's very tense. Stay with me here.
Uh, you can dial it in that fine of a temperature adjustment and
then have your meat at that temperature inside. So but when you pull it
out, it looks like kind of gross, looks gray and disgusting. Okay,
you don't want to eat it, even though it's perfect temperature inside.
So you see it on the outside. So I did like ninety seconds on
each side to make it actually look like a steak. But that's only so
it looks like a steak, like, you don't have to do that.
Well, it's also some it's also flavor. Well, yeah, you're creating
a crust around the outside there. There's actual still happens, actual molecular gastronomy
taking place. Yeah, there's some weird protein action going on when you create
the crust that creates you know, a different flavor and stuff like that.
But you might just like it without that. You don't have to do that.
Yeah, you might like it. Gray. You know what this sounds
like to me, sounds like, Okay, go ahead. It sounds like
a deep friar for fucking pussies. Putt putting water lukewarm water in there and
just hung up on the meat in the bag. Let's put fucking hot oil
in there and drop the meat in. It'll be done in like five minutes.
It's crispy, it'll come out fine, And that would totally work.
But you've got to be super Johnny on the spot with how long you leave
it in there? Right with a deep friar? All right? If you
don't know this is on the spot, Benny thirty seven sec. It's exactly
Caravela. That's not the first one to call, uh, see you next
week. So there Anything about the CVD is that you can leave it in
there for ever and it will never overcook because it only just brings it up
to that temperature. And that's that. Yeah, like being at that temperature
for longer, it doesn't actually Okay, all right, that makes sense.
And the other thing is like, is there any benefits to doing that,
like I left it in there for like four days and the flavor change,
Like it won't over cook it, but it'll like break stuff down like you
know, tissue. I'm all about breaking it down downs, get all those
proteins out of there. Like the science stuff is cool, and cooking it
perfectly it is cool, but I'm really about easiness. Yeah. See you
you might have actually sold me on this concept because everyone else who talks about
it is like just talks about it like it's any other like very fancy food
prepared preparing item. For people that are not me, They're like, oh,
you need to get into this and fancy this food because I'm a real
foodie here, and I'm telling you this is the way to do it.
But the idea, So I've been running into this problem for years where I
don't know a met thermometer because I don't cook very often, but I do
cook, you know, it's like occasionally i'll cook. So I went and
bought chicken, thinking like I'm gonna I bought a chicken and I've got a
curry mix, thinking like I'll make a chicken curry and rice and it'll be
fun. And then the chicken got to a point where it was like you
need to use or free is this today? And I said, well,
fuck this, through it in the freezer and now I'll probably never use it
because it's outside out of mine. Who knows. I'll send that freeze it
for a year to check this out. I went to the store, okay,
and you can get chicken, like a chicken breast in like a vacuum
sealed yeah, thing with like marinate in there. So the idea is you
you open it up and throw it in a pan or something and bake it
or throw it in a or yeah, a pan and cook it on the
stovetop. But I just took that package and threw it in water. I
didn't even open it and just cracked it in its own thing. Chicken I
think is like twenty five minutes or something. That's good. Yeah, chicken
cooks pretty quickly. That what temperature though, that's because you have to get
it up to one sixty five right, yeah, yeah. Yeah. The
thing that the sans there does a really good job of heating water really quickly.
And that's the other thing is that everyone everyone who talks about this,
it seems like they're talking about days or something like the ultimate slow cooker.
You're looking like a brisket. Yeah yeah, and you're talking like seventy two
hours. But so I I that's ridiculous. I did. Yeah. I
don't want to do that. But if you're like having people over for like
a big old barbecue thing and you want it to be special, yeah yeah,
totally yeah. But like I so, I put this thing to the
test last weekend. I bought uh to New York strips, a flank steak,
a try tip, and two hanger steaks. Yeah. How much water?
What's the capacity of it? It's a pot. It's like a four
I mean you you it's the sensor itself is like a big water bottle.
It's tall. Yeah. You basically just clip it to the side of any
pot or any water vessel and it circulates in there. Oh yeah. So
I just had a had a pot and it's like, I don't I don't
know. It's a big spaghetti pot. Okay, So we I went over
I took it, or my friend has one. We went over his place.
Uh. We took a little cooler kind of like the size that you
would carry a six pack of beer in with. Guys filled that up with
hot water, put the sands there in there, turned it on through all
six of these cuts of meat in there, six seven six six yeah uh,
and cooked them all for ninety minutes, brought them all out serum and
they're perfect perfect. Yeah. That sounds all right, that sounds all right.
Yeah, it was super easy. Of course. Now these things are
like because it's a weird kickstarter thing, it's now like sold out. Did
you did you started it? Okay? Yeah, so not widely available yet,
no use bath them, I am, and my bathtub is already in
use. So you can do this with another type of cooking, but I
won't get into now you can. You can do it with a with a
cooler and just a thermometer and very fine. I mean you gotta you gotta
tend to it. You know, if you're if you're you know, you
see the temperature drop, then you got to add hot water, ice cubes
or time consuming monotonous process. That's why they have robots to do it.
So actually last night I had my suvid thing cooking salmon, I had my
slow cooker doing a pork shoulder, and I had my George Foreman cooking chicken
breasts. Nice all the same time, just fire and forget man. Yep,
robots are doing my cooking. It's awesome. It's protein, it's a
significant amount of I just love meat. And then I remember seeing the suvie
on Top Chef and they always used it for fish, and it was always
like, I guess because fish is you know, it's delicate, a narrow
window. Yeah, and there was like, uh, like many but it
was always a gigantic bath right. Yeah, it was like a giant slow
cooker and these guys are having to do it manually, right yeah. And
then some of some of always fucked something up in there. Three chickens forty
five minutes because salmon was twenty five minutes. Hmm, how did the chicken
come out? Well, granted you have a marinade, so that's not mama
chicken. And okay, well, which one of these was happening before the
other. The egg came first. I always I'm confident who discovered the egg,
the chicken? The fuck you who you've been with? Sorry? And
then yeah, that's how baby chickens come out? Got it? Dinosaurs?
Man? Yeah, dinosaurs? How did the chicken come out? Because I
always find out how was the chicken? It was good. I always find
it better than I always seem to overcook it on the George. Yeah,
yeah, like chicken breast is the hardest thing for me to cook without it
coming out dry and stringy and gross. You know, you can eat it,
but it's not good. Yeah. So it's one of the things where
like like being somewhat worried about chicken, right, you can't afford you tend
to just go like a fuck it and overcook it and dry it out because
that one you can't afford to fuck up? Why not you sort of can,
well you really don't want to. You really don't want to pretty gross
wash it off, maybe be wash it soap and water. I don't know
the food safety. I have a meat thermometer. It seems to work on
yea. It's a digital one, just plugging. I should really just get
one. It was one of those things where I just cook something frequently that
I just I haven't had a reason to get one, and they're like a
couple of cases a year when I'm like a fuck, you know, I
really I should have a meat thermometers just going I got fine, okay,
I'll get One's all right, fine, I get one they're so fun well
being color blend, it's actually kind of tough, exactly like you. I
cut it up and I'm like, I don't know, what's this pink?
I don't Yeah, I don't, Like I cannot trust my eyes for cuts
of meat and go like, is this rare? Medium rare? I don't
know. I don't know. Like you know, I'll go to a steak
place in order a steak and then I'll just say medium rare and they'll say
like pink all the way through. I'm like sure whatever they say, yes,
make it orange. Do you know about do you know about the hands
test for steak? Because yeah, I yes, I'm bad at that one.
Yeah, I'm not great at that. Like it's yeah, built in
steak reference right there in your hand, My hand is steak man. Man
evolved to be able to cook perfect steak. That's true. I believe squeezing
the ball part of your hand did evolve or is he created that way?
Oh no, oh no, yeah, think about it. All these gifts
were provided for us. Look at a banana, the perfect shape. Yeah,
sure, you can't explain that. Yeah, I can't explain that.
All these meat thermometers seem bulky. No, no, no, I've got
one that's like the size of a pin with a little screen on the top
of meat thermometer that you can plug into your iPhone. Oh yeah yeah yeah.
Automatic. Yeah, that sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Automatic
has added some stuff. They added if this then that support, So they
have if this then that recipes for like when a trip is completed, send
a text message or something like that. So I might plug that stupid thing
back in and and see if I can find any use for it, because
it was it was maybe a bad it was maybe a bad purchase on my
part. I've got one that's like two parts. It's a thermometer, computer
bit and then there's a wire and then yeah, that's one. Most of
these look like put like the watching the tempt while it's cooking, No man,
because its gotten alarm on it, so it says, But I mean
the point is it can keep taking it while the ovens like closed and cooking,
and then then it just I just want to open it up and stab
it and go nope, yep, that's what I do. I got a
little ten dollar digital one from like home depot. Yeah, yeah, I
just like the alarm that goes off. It's like one forty time to take
it out, because sometimes it cooks a little more while it's resting. It's
true. Yeah, internal temperature continues to rise after you take it off.
Every everyone knows that. Everybody gonna let it set. Yeah, I don't
know. I froze that chicken, so it's gone forever. If you could
just drop that into a bathtub and eat it twenty minutes later, you'd be
pecked. So you could just drop it in my bathtub and eat it twenty
minutes later. If you think that would work, you could put the suve
thing in the bathtub, right, just shas a little while to heat it
up so it'll so it'll theoretically heat any cluster of water. Yeah, So
like if I wanted a bathtub that didn't get cold on me, I could
put that thing in there and then just jump in the bathtub. I mean,
your electric bill might be pretty well. I mean I wonder if I
think even has the hour output the heat and entire bathtub that fast. Yeah,
well, it might not be fat you might be, but you might
be no, I mean, you might be losing the heat out of the
water. You need one of them faster. Yeah, sure, if I
get like five of them, and then you know you're putting hot water in
it already, so it's just ten needing to maintain. I got a note
from the power company that said, hey, congratulations, you are like one
of the most energy conscious homes. You are so much better than the average
house. So I can afford to fuck around all the if you want to
keep if you want to keep the water in your bathtub hot, just anything
with a heating element of work, you know, just like plug a toaster
into drop it right in there. All right, I'll give that a shot.
Yeah, hair curlers, blow dryer, put it right in there.
Yeah, blow dryer, definitely. All right. I think I have a
camp fire, so I can't throw it in the back, okay, all
right, Yeah, every time I drop that stuff in there, my circuit
just breaks. It just tripps. Well, you need to be you need
to be in the bathtub when you put that stuff in. But it just
works. I got those, I got those dumb ground fault interrupt Here's what
you do. Just cut the hair dryer off of it and put the power
cable in there. It'll still trip. What I need to do. Get
a car battery, Get a car battery. Cook hooked the clamps up to
the car battery. I was just gonna smash my life on the bathtub and
take the leads out of that took and then take the other ones and took
them onto your took him on, do your chest and then hold the chicken
between my arms and jump in. Yep. And then twenty minutes later,
it's like the best chicken I've ever had, right, perfectly cooked. It's
perfectly cooked. The other great thing about it is that you can buy really
cheap cut some meat because they're like hanger and flank are really cheap. I
think in part because they're tough to cook. Throw them in there and you're
gonna go. I've never had a hanger. It's pretty Good's nothing wrong with
I don't know where. I just got that three day egg figure for them.
I just looked up susied poached eggs and it was like fifteen minutes.
You can just play less than three days yourself fried daddy, It'll be half
Friday. YEA life will never be the same. I've never owned a deep
friar. Yeah, it's probably for the best. Yeah, it's just you
know, you gotta deal with oil like that just sounds if you did have
one, though, or if a friend had when you went over there.
Yeah, what would be the first thing you're through in? I don't know.
Yeahs last time, last time I had access to it. Last time
I had access to a deep friar. We threw car keys in there.
Did you batter him first? Yeah? What kind of batter are we talking?
Uh? It was like a pancake ish. No, I don't know
it was. It was like a it was it was like a funnel cake.
Yeah. Yeah, it was very funnel cakey because we were battering oreos.
Frying. Yeah, that sounds all right. Try pickle. Those are
okay. Fried pick Oh hell yeah, dude, fried pickles are fantastic.
Snickers park them many times, Yeah, some people do. Yeah, I
don't know. Snicker doodle is a differents a cookie, yeas twinkies. You
just have to. It's one of those things where like you put those,
even just the oreos, just because the filling, like you have to be
really quick about pulling them out or else, Like all the filling melted and
then squirted out of the side of this battered and now it's just like floating
in the oil like it's as I got it, and it's it work a
little baked Alaska. That sounds all right? What have you just dumped like
cake icing in there? Just balls balls of fried icing. I don't like
instead of oil. I don't like. I don't like cake frosting. I
don't think it's very good. I like what there's a lot of bad cake
frosting out there. I like a good cake frosting. Yeah, like a
white frosting, not at all. Yeah, you would say that, Yep,
I had. I had a fried Snickers bar at the North Carolina State
Fair. That sounds like the place to have one. My knees almost buckled
when I ate it. I swear, I swear to Christ, one of
the best things I've ever eaten in my life and fucking mind blowing. I've
never had one. Oh my god, it sounds ladies fanning themselves. Oh
my god. Yeah, the oh my lord, the Snickers. It was.
It was right after I had eating a giant turkey leg though, so
that may have contributed. Are you doing living going to the state Fair?
Man? Do you drive around in like a golf car to like eat hire
you can hire a guy to push you around in a wheelbarrow. Get at
the end of the night, they just dump you out and take you over
the front. Just dump you out in a pile of bodies. Man's like,
get out of here. You have fucking lumped everybody moaning. Just where
do you do a mass Grave guy hosing you down? Just in the morning.
They'll be up soon. Just gotta hydrate them and push X to eat
deep fried Twinkie in mass Grave. Just whatever you do, please go on
the tilt the world before you go. Jeff, you ever been in the
Marine County Fair? Uh? Maybe once? Okay, but no, No.
I usually would go to I mean Peddlum has a fair in the summer,
right, and then later there's the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa.
Usually go to that, uh and thin because they have you know, they
have a horse racing track and they do some horse races and some other stuff.
There were miniature horses at the one oh Man. Yeah, that sounds
good. Where they're racing, they're just hanging racing. Is there a different
I think there's a difference between ponies and miniature horses, right, I don't
know, but that that fair had the very worst ride I've ever been on.
What it was it? Which one? Yeah, it was the zipper.
How does it work? It's imagine a chainsaw okay, yeah, okay,
like the blade of a chainsaw sticking straight up out of the ground.
Yeah, and then all the teeth are hinge baskets where you sit. Yeah,
two person baskets, and those can spin around. They depend independently,
got it? So the elongated yeah, somebody just but you were in a
cage that can spin around on its own. It can do full three sixties
regardless, you know, like the Ferris wheel. You can't really spin a
three six. So it's spinning. Your car is rotating about the h the
axis, so you are flipping head over heels. Then all those chairs are
going around the chainsaw blade, and then the chainsaw blade itself is rotating.
Yeah, like the clock faced clock hands. So you'll end up in situations
where it all lines up just right and you are you are rotating out as
you are being flung just at the right angle on this clock thing over.
So it gets like this most the highest speed possible. You pulling some g's
on that, yeah, yeah, you kind of pulling some g's. You're
kind of pulling a few g's. I lost stuff out of my pocket.
I bet in that one year, like lost loss, not in the cage
anymore. Yeah, gone came back. I like rides. I like roller
coasters and stuff like that. Yeah, it's scarier, just uncomfortable, extremely
uncomfortable, like not only what is it nauseating in that sense, but it
was also like a very poorly constructed Yeah. That's the thing about this.
It sounds like you you hear it falling apart by on a little bit,
like this bolt wasn't in here when I got in. Just weird, like
why why is it making all these noises? My policy is always, don't
do traveling rides. Don't get on mechanical rides that move around that they take
from place to place. But so many people do, and they's so I
mean, the odds of anything happening to you, yeah, I guess I
don't know. You hear about a good member of them though, Yeah,
somebody somebody was killed it. I think at the nc stay Fair, like
a couple of what were they doing? Shit happens many unbuckled their seatbelt.
I don't know, gravitron or something not taking a risk. I don't care
that much what I'm saying, you know, would be fine at like,
you know, so you won't do that disney Land or what a place?
A place where the rides are permanent and reasonably well maintained. You just don't
hear about it. Okay, So Brad Shoemaker will not take the risk on
the Zipper, but we'll either fry sneaker bar. Yeah that's followed by a
turkey leader. Yeah, I'm I'm a bigger fan of a sure thing,
you know, but I like to know your odds, you know. Yeah,
as long as as long as I'm deferring in the consequences for thirty or
forty years, I'm smart. Smart, just put it off. I once
took my or got out of my harness once on a ride and they were
not happy. But not Why would they be happy about that? Why do
you think that would make them happy? The ride was stuck, all right,
and I was laying down. It was one of these rides where you
get on and you lay down and then eventually as the ride goes, you
flip over so you're flying. Yes, like the Superman roller coaster. Yeah,
it may have been that, or like some Batman thing. I don't
know, the Batman thing when you're sitting down and your legs were kicking.
That was that, like Great Adventure. Okay, I've never been to Grand
Adventure. Yeah, you mean Great Adventure. It's just kind of the same
as Great America. Okay, some of the same rides, even the six
Flags. Yeah, I'm sure there are multiple Batman rides, but I think
this one was. Anyway, I was on my back and the ride was
stopped and we're going anyone since after we had come to almost completed it and
we had not gotten back to like the part where you get on yea,
So we were like, you know, fifty feet away, and it's very
frustrating. So I sat up and looked around there like, sir, sir,
sir Batman that word for you. Yeah, I got stuck. The
biggest roller coaster in the universe at Great Adventure, a Great Space coaster.
No, this was after that. It was the build that's the biggest drop
in North America and in the whole universe. I'm pretty surely no, let's
say the known universe. I can't speak, I'm no physicists. The biggest
drops have yet to be discovered. Might be some cool alien roller coasters out
there, probably, or they might come here for ours. Anyway, we
were at the crest of the hill that and the power went out out in
the park. Yeah, I got stuck on a ferris wheel the very top.
Did they make you get down? No, the power got back on.
They might just get out and walk down the like gantry. That sounds
unsafe, they may. I was sitting I don't like heights, but I'm
kind of I'm okay with where all the coasters kind of like you were saying,
like you'd hear about it, they wouldn't be able to operate this thing
and people were dying. I'm in a safe situation, so I'm okay,
but I don't like heights. And we're like eight thousand feet in the air,
give or take, and I just remember sitting there, I'm not gonna
be able to get out. They're gonna have to airlift me out here because
you want me to do what like take the harness off. We're at like
forty five degrees or whatever it is, and go out down that little fucking
catwalk you always see on the side. You're like, man, who the
fuck goes on that it's it's like when you're driving across the bridge and you
see the little cat walk things, you're like, man, that job must
suck. And this was like on the edge of the thing. And there
was a person there from the ride with both arms around the railings, sitting
down being like, you guys need to you need to get off. Fine,
you'll be fine, but you guys all need to get down. The
powers out and we don't know when it's coming back on. Why would they
tell you that seems like a liability nightmare. Well, because we were in
us. If they said, if we had gone over the hill, we
would have been fine because the momentum would have taken us throughout the rest of
the ride. Yeah, but since that's where we were, I guess it
was unsafe for us to be stalled there. Doesn't like look into place or
something. And so as as we were getting down, poor workers had to
climb up this gantry too, and they're all like just holding on for dear
life, sitting on the steps, and they're supposed to be the ones that
are helping us get down, just like trying to trying to extend as little
hand as they can to anybody is a nightmare. Wow, at least,
I mean, that's better than getting stuck upside down like in the middle of
the loop. Though. See I don't think you could though. I think
they were saying happens in really Florida. Who lot. Yeah, they were
saying that, like we would just go through it, like thementum of the
ride would have taken us to a natural stopping point. Man. That's that's
crazy crazy. I'm just turned the world over all right, Well, what
else, Vinny, what's been going on in your neck of the world.
I'd be Lord's shadow too, speaking of roller Coast, speaking of next,
speak of the Dracula kill Satan. I'm not those spoilers here. I don't
want to ruin it for anybody fair enough. That game Uh oh it's good
yea, Uh, they've got worse as I went really huh. They were
high points, and then the thought that's the twist. The first one got
better later on. I figured they would like front load all those stealth sequences
people don't seem to like, and then you'd kind of get into the meat
and it would just be there what you were looking for. It was a
really terrible boss fight where you have to hide from the guy and the ending
was anti climactic. The first one had a pretty sick awesome ending. I
thought it was great. The definitely what's that? Maybe they're saving for the
DLC maybe uh that That first first games ending definitely kind of whapped you over
the head with like, holy crap, where did that come from? It
was kind of dark and you're like, man, that's cool, Like,
okay, that's sad and cool and interesting. This one was a little more
like track imagine Dracula walking off into the sunset, kind of like thing like
didn't they say this was the end of their arc? Yeah, they did
well. They said, yeah, they were not working on another one of
these. But I expected something to happen at the end with that being said,
right, oh man, he's gonna explode into Dracula dust. No,
no, I kill the dust. It was like like basically, high five,
let's walk away, alright. So, like, without giving away too
much more, if people want to finish it on their own and whatever,
I don't want to spoil I mean, stuff does happen in it. Sure
there are plot twists, but it was not the not what I was looking
for. At the end of that game, and some of that stuff just
got not fun. Bumm me out. I got sad. Are you glad
you played it? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, you had to like what
it was. Yeah, I'm kind of glad the they It would have bummed
me out more if they said they were gonna continue with or they hadn't made
those uh statements about the franchise like this is the last one, because it
did not leave me excited to play continue playing that franchise. The first one
did and it was like I'll play more of this and this is one of
those ones that's like I'm done. Okay, you know, we're finished.
So that was kind of a bummer. Oh Brad, your your baffler's back
falling on you baffler? Yeah, careful with that. Uh that's well yeah,
yeah, you're well. I'm solved. It took me a while to
get through that game. It was not super short. But yeah, I'm
interested to see what some other people have to say about it who were very
excited about it. Okay, a few other people that were like yeah,
yeah, yeah, and I'm wondering. Yeah boss fight, I forget who
was against something with it? He was like a giant tree and you step
on the leaves and he kills you, and well, yeah, I mean,
yeah, if you were a tree, you'd probably be pretty pissed if
people stepped off then, but you're Dracula, who cares well? I mean,
can a tree be undead? Can Dracula bite a tree and make it
into an undead? Tree? Should be able to. There's a boss fight
against a lady with a lantern, and the tree is filled with steaks.
You could really ramp through a vampire's heart. So it seems like a tree
fight would be really fucking rugged. I thought you meant the other kind of
stacking New York. Yeah, hanger steak to hang off the branches. Just
dip that tree in a bath of water. It tastes perfect. Yeah,
so that was kind of a bummer, But I'm glad I moved on because
games are starting to come out, and yeah, opened up my schedule.
It's clear what's next for me. Yeah, probably South Park? Are you're
in for that? Yeah? That game looks pretty good. It is pretty
good one. Alex Navarro hinted that he might. Oh yeah, he more
than hinted at this intimated I give this game five stars. If you catch
my drift, you know what I'm saying, I'm not sure that I follow
Brad. You've been playing some South Park. I'm pretty close to the end
of it. That game is awesome. Yeah, game is fantastic. I'm
not sure I understand what you're saying. Let's see, sorry for equivocating.
Let me try to explain myself. It's really good. Mh ice cream.
That's those aren't words. Well I can't he's talking, but I don't understand
it. Video game equivalent of a fried Snickers bar. You're being hyperbolic.
Actually it's not that good, but it's pretty good. I totally I agree
with everything Alex said in his review, Like he really summed up my feelings
on that game quite succinctly. Is it a good game? Yes, I
totally think it is. I totally think it is. Like it's it's weird
though the way that a lot of people have been approaching this, so I
feel like the way I need to talk about it now is within the context
of what a lot of people have been saying about it this morning with the
review is coming out. Okay, I didn't read any of this, so
a lot of people are really upset that it's only like twelve hours, which
I think I have to imagine ohs to the fact that they are coming at
this. Well, it's an RPG as an RPG specifically one made by Obsidian,
right, Yeah, this game is an RPG. Second, it is
a vehicle for south Park first, So like all the fan service is the
point of this game like this, Like that's why you should come to this,
Like don't get this just looking for like the next great sprawling RPG like
you just saw the quickly Look you know what I'm talking about. I do.
That game is fully voiced with it is actual Yeah, voices from the
game like it is. It is incredible the amount of stuff like from from
like like the jokes and humor to voiceover to like unique art for all the
enemies and areas that you're going to. It's a side quests just too.
Like I've mentioned this before even just like you know, Goofy loot like loot
specific to the different dungeons you're in where they hide little jokes and stuff like
it is everywhere, like there is no repetition really throughout that whole game.
Yeah, it's got one of my favorite things in games and across all media.
A lot of time spent for one dumb joke. Yes, right,
yeah, absolutely, yeah, one off, just like that's it. You're
just gonna put that one thing there, like, okay, good one.
Like every like every enemy in the game, all of their attacks, with
a few exceptions, are are pretty funny or a pretty amusing or clever or
whatever, And a lot of that stuff you'll see literally one time, you
know, like but Black Boss characters, you know that you're going to fight
once. Like they did some pretty elaborate animations and stuff for a lot of
the stuff they do. But yeah, it's it's it is incredibly dense with
just you know, stuff right everywhere you go. So in that sense,
the twelve hours feels totally fine to me because I think if they had made
a twenty or thirty hour game, it would not have been sustainable. Do
you don't think they could have created enough variety and kept it moving at the
pace it does for that long. They probably would have taken this much content
and just stretched it totally totally. And a lot some of the people that
we're falling on the side of this game said, yeah, like you know,
take your typical like JRPG or whatever, and if you take out most
of the repetition, you're probably left with about a dozen hours of unique stuff.
But yeah, this this thing is primarily a vehicle for you to interact
with a world that looks and sounds and feels exactly like the TV show,
right, So you're not doing a lot of grinding or zero grinding, okay,
whatsoever. Like it's it's a pretty easy game. You could bump it
up to hard, but I've heard from some people that even hard is not
like exceptionally punishing. It does seem like enemies respond in the world eventually as
you wander around, so you kind of could level up more if you wanted
to. But I haven't done any of that, and I haven't really had
any problem with I think I might have died like twice. Do you feel
like there's room for discovery within the game or is it totally line people?
You mean in terms of wandering around like probably most people's experience, but definitely
mine. When you first start the game, once you kind of get your
first major story point, like first big story related quest is to put it
off for like two to three hours just wander around because there's all like from
the get go, there's stuff unlocked. You can wander through just about the
entire town right off the bat and find a ton of side quests and stuff.
I said, they're like keys you need for the houses. Yeah,
a lot of the stuff. A lot of the people's garages are locked,
and some office buildings and stuff like that. Like, you definitely can't get
into everything until you start moving the story forward some but there's plenty of side
stuff to do right away that it's really easy to get lost in. And
then they they do, they do the thing I really like with the question
based structure like this, where they hold a bunch of the side stuff back
until you hit certain story beats, right, you know. So it always
feels like even if you clear out all the side quests before you move the
story on, like every time you unlock new locations and stuff, or even
in old locations, you're finding new side stuff to do, right, Okay,
So you're constantly busy, like kind of going off to the side doing
little stuff that unlocks you new you know, new gear, and you see
different cut scenes and stuff like that. Yeah, it seemed like the humor
and a quick look the part you showed me, it seemed funny. Yeah,
and uh, it seemed like they were doing a good balance between you
know, South Park humor, general humor, and like bits and pieces of
video game humor. Yeah, they sort of. They Yeah, they they
riff on video game and fantasy tropes a decent amount. I thought there was
gonna be way more of that stuff in what sense, like the fantasy stuff
specifically we're in a video game, right, Oh no, I mean they're
not self aware about being in a video game at all, like not,
Yeah, and I'm happy too. Well, there's there's a couple of sort
of oblief references to like things that are over used in video games, but
they never like flat out say it seems to be like that stuff. A
lot of that stuff, Yeah it is. Well, I don't I don't
even mean like the referential stuff to video games, like using the medium,
using the mechanics of a video game to play a joke. Absolutely know,
there's tons of that, tons of like everywhere. That stuff is pretty clever.
I liked the comparison. I can't remember if you made it in the
quick look or right after we were done recording, but you compared it to
costume quests in the way that like, both of these games do a great
job of depicting like kind of the the scope of a kid's imagination, you
know, and how you can turn like you know, our cardboard box and
like a garbage pail into like suit of armor kind of stuff. Like you
know, pretty much all the equipment in the game is cobbled together crap like
that, but then you get into battle scenarios and like it all becomes much
much larger than life, you know, like it feels they do a really
good job of allowing like these kids imaginations to sort of amplify this stupid stuff
that they've kind of pulled together for their little kind of like you know,
Fantasy War. It was particularly when you did the summon or the no the
special ability for I forget which character you're using us Butters maybe, oh yeah
it was Butters, and all of a sudden he was replaced with like what
you consider his mind's eye to see how he turns into Professor Chaos, his
big like evil villain alter ego. Right, uh, and yeah like it
but like I stylized like like right, like whatever's like whatever's going on in
their head is what's actually playing out in the real world. That happened for
the other characters yeah, well, I mean do you mean in terms of
them like morphing and stuff like not necessarily, but like if they all everybody
has crazy abilities that are you know, totally outside the realm of plausibility,
Like anything that they regard as magic actually works like magic, you know,
even though even though the entirety of the story kind of appears to take place
within the confines of reality whatever that is in the South Park universe. But
yeah, like if if you actively dislike South Park, like don't bother with
this, right, like you or you will not find anything of value here
because I think the RPG stuff is totally fine, but it is secondary to
in service of South part. I think it's pretty fun. Like the uh,
you know, a lot a lot of people said like, hey,
this is like a really lude Paper Mario, Like that's a good that's a
good comparison. Yeah, like Paper Mario kind of active combat, right,
but also in the sense that like something like a Paper Mario is considered a
pretty light RPG, right, Like it's not a grind fest. It's not
like super customizable, like the like Into Noo style of RPG is very similar
in that like you know, you've got your set path. There's not that
much customization you can do. You're kind of going through the motions as you
complete the story. This is very similar to that, but there's there's an
incredible amount of gear, like constantly picking up new weapons and armor. There's
there are multiple mod systems for you know, giving your your weapons different effects
and stuff. So I you know, there's there's a there's a talent tree
for abilities, there's a perk system for like passive buffs. I mean like
it has all the trappings of what you would expect an RPG to have,
right, Uh, it's just that, you know, it's not super difficult,
but I kind of don't care when like practically every new area you're moving
into and fighting new enemies, you're seeing new goofy stuff and jokes and stuff.
You know. Right, that's that all sounds pretty reasonable. It's all
about getting through the content and seeing the dumb ideas they came up with.
You know, it's not it's not about grinding your characters up and fighting really
tough battles or anything like that. It's not. It's not that kind of
RPG. Uh sounds fun, but it does play really well. Do you
feel like, are there things that would make it replayable. Are there reasons
to go through it again or is it just kind of like these are the
jokes seem and yeah, yeah, yeah, ninety percent of the humor.
I think it's sort of you've seen it once and that's kind of it,
right, I'm trying to think. I mean, the character classes have different
abilities. There's there's one major choice that I've seen that you make in the
story so far, but you can you can create as many manual saves as
you want, so you could just save, go back to a save and
try the other choice. It seems like it doesn't make a huge difference to
begin with. It's probably something you're gonna play once and yeah, put down.
But there's a ton of stuff to find, collectibles and stuff like that,
so you could spend a lot of time looking for side stuff. Yeah.
What are the collectibles? Are? Like? Homeless people? That's one
of them. Yeah, yeah, well they're they're specifically homeless camps. Okay.
The mayor gives you a quest to get the homeless people the hell out
of town. Okay, so you find them in their camps and fight for
blood and fight them and then they leave forget what they call the fake Pokemon
Chin Pokemon. Yeah, there's a bunch of those to find. Uh,
let's see what else is in there. I mean it's Alex. Alex has
made a very salient point and at the end of the review, which was
like, look, I've said everything I could say without just moving on to
spoiling specific jokes. You know, at a certain point it's hard to talk
about the game because all the best stuff is something you really need to see
for yourself, because it undervalues it to just tell you about it for the
most part, tell me all the jokes. Although that enemy type we saw
at the end of the quick look was like one of the most sort of
eye opening or eye widening moments I've had with the game so far, Like
the specifically what they do with the voice work for those enemies. I was
like, Wow, you really did The first time you see that, they
don't they don't give it any context, like later on in the game that
where you saw they've explained why that's happening, But the first time you see
it, it's completely out of left field. And I thought it was the
only time that was gonna happen in the whole game, And I was just
like, did you really just do that? We actually jesus uh. Yeah,
they they take some of the stuff pretty far in some cases, like
they and I guess they've had to censor it in a couple of regions.
Yeah, yeah, Australia, Australia, Australia looking at you, Australia.
Yeah, yeah, I didn't take all the songs out. Yeah, just
too much, too much, just inspires too much violence. Anything else,
Brandon, what do you what else? Hmmm mmm mmmm it's gotta be something
else. Mmm did that thousandth win for Crispy Come? I didn't actually watch
that happened? Was something a little bit of Doda? Yeah, Doda's pretty
cool. Should we talk about Trials? We did that video? Yeah,
Trials Fusion seems pretty great. Yeah, it looks awesome. I guess we
don't have to spend a lot of time on it. There's a video on
the site. No we should talk about is the part where the person was
talking to you and then headset and what was that? Yeah, after the
after we've recorded that video, we turned the volume on that b roll way
up to hear what was So there's a there's a computer robot lady voice in
that game, which serves as your tutorial. Yeah, I heard a bunch
of it when I was playing the early levels, just saying like, you
know, push back on the left stick to lean backwards on the bike.
You know, it's real boilerplate tutorial information. And then what was she saying
in that b roll after we like turn the volume way up? I love
you? Like, yeah, she was basically something she was like, She's
like, do you think it's possible for love to exist between a human and
a motor bike? No? No, that's crazy, just like real weird.
Are this going for loco cycle jokes? That's weird about the future too.
Yeah. Yeah, it added a weird extra angle to that game that
I'm I wasn't quite Trials has always been like on the verge of being really
weird. Yeah, totally. You know, the crashes at the end of
the levels, like the ridiculous freestyle rap over the intro, like weird,
there's weird little squirrels they hide everywhere. Yeah, there's ways that you get
those kind of some some stuff. Yeah, at the fringes of it that
maybe they're just putting in a little more plain view. I guess the big
thing for this at the trick system. Yeah, the tricks thing seems like
it could be pretty cool. Uh, describe a little bit about the trick
system, because it's not just hold next to grah Yeah. Yeah, Yeah,
That's what I like about it is it's not like put in fighting game
style arbitrary command sequences to make tricks happen. It's it's like the right stick
basically controls your writer's feet in a very physics seat way, like you kind
of swing them off the bike and move them around manually. So I mean,
there are still set tricks once you achieve a certain pose, but you
have to think about like your feet colliding with the bike, you know,
like you can't if you want to go over the handlebars, you can't go
forward because your legs, your knees which you get caught on the handlebars.
You have to kind of swing them around and go over the other way.
So that stuff seems neat, and it seems like they don't necessarily lay the
trick stuff on too heavy. Like from what I saw of the menus,
it looks like the the tracks that are specific to trick scoring. Yeah,
I only make up like it couldn't have been more than like twenty percent of
the game. Maybe less, Okay, it's still the vast majority of the
tracks are still trials tracks, which are just you know, time trials with
faults being the kind of scoring mechanism. Are all the trick tracks like Giant
Jumps. I only played a couple of them. I mean, yeah,
they definitely give it pretty fun. They definitely give you tons of airtime.
You know, you need it to be able to do the tricks and stuff,
but I mean not necessarily as much as you know, it's not just
free form like, hey, you're gonna be in the air for thirty seconds
to do whatever you want. Like the part of the challenge is being able
to get cool tricks off and still stick the landing because you have to cleanly
finish the trick off before you hit the jumped through a hoop of fire.
Yeah yeah, yeah that was in there. Has that game always had digital
controls? Are they analog on a lean? They're always well, the very
first Trials for PC was like, yeah, okay, so you can like
lean a little bit or like but yeah, like since what was the first
console one was gold or no no trials? HD? Yeah, I guess
that was anyway, as long as they've been on consoles and trials. It's
two for PC. I think that had three sixty controller support. Yeah,
they've practically always had analog leaning and stuff in there. But that's key.
I mean, that's key to you know. I want to see Twitch plays
Trials. Yeah, sorry, I don't think I would work out too well.
Think they beat Pokemon, didn't they They did? They're you can pretty
much do anything, I guess, so yeah. Yeah, I saw a
turbo Twister suggesting Twitch plays quop m. I think they were. I think
someone was doing that. Someone may think that look really funny. Yeah,
I forget Yeah, cool, anything else, Brad, I guess that's it,
all right. I uh. I started to play load Out a little
bit tie Roots load Out right. Yeah, that game's kind of all right.
Yeah, it's not bad. Yeah, it plays well, It's like
it moves well. Yeah. I just I wish it was first person because
you are these big cartoonish dudes that only exists to take up space on the
screen and get in the way. Like there were too many cases where I'm
like trying to aim at something and my character is in the way of that.
Yeah, because you don't have like a cover system there. No,
No, it's there's no real reason for it to be there other than they're
selling cosmetic items for your dude and they want you to see it. Well,
I will. I won't disagree. That's probably the main reason. The
one counter I would I would add is that they have they have a dodge
system similar to oh right, yeah, and I always thought that the first
person dodging in you two you was really weird, little kind of cumbersome.
Yeah. So that's the one case where I feel like being able to see
your character is really help. That's a good point. Yeah, But otherwise
I'm kind of with you. Yeah, I don't know. It's the other
thing is that I went through like testing out all the weapon parts. Like
the whole thing has got this weapon crafting system and you're like I'm attaching a
big scope and a barrel and you know all this other stuff sort of a
Borderlands style kind of. It's a million goods. It's not that different from
like Call of Duty really because most of the parts are the only parts that
I have a real determining factor are like the type of slugs you're firing.
You can change it to electric damage or make it a healing gun or something
like that. But the rest of it's like, all right, you can
put a different stock on it. It's going you know, this stock is
going to increase stability, but decrease this you know, you can put this
type of barrel on it to you know, increase accuracy at the expensive rate
of fire. Like it's all those types of very basic trade off. Yeah,
it's only when you get to kind of the you know there's one specific
item for there's two specific things. It's like is it a rifle, is
it shooting plasma or whatever? And then what type of it is it's shooting,
you know, if it's healing or whatever. And I went through all
the options and it just seems like for kind of how I play, like
the middle the balanced items were the best, So I wasn't I didn't feel
incentivized to like I'm gonna get a different stock. I'm gonna get this.
It was like, no, this is this is already pretty much what it
needs to be. Like I'll put electric damage on it because that'll be fun.
But then like the other stuff of like increase hip fire accuracy and all
that is all from you using the gun, so it all levels up and
so it's like, okay, if I get fifty thousand experience points while equipping
this weapon, then you know, hip fire accuracy will increase by four percent
all this other stuff. So how about other players? Did you see them,
like is it a variety of guns or they all kind of stick into
a couple of things. I didn't really see anything too fancy out there.
It might be hard to determine. Also, it's a free to play game,
so everyone looked pretty much identical like one of the default characters, and
they were using, you know, whatever you can get without spending any money,
right, I think you know, Brad and I have the steam Press
accounts that have like for whatever reason, like they there's a billion, Yeah,
there's a a trillion in gang credits on that thing, which I didn't
really I didn't need to spend, like, I mean obviously not actually like
really like one hundred and fifty thousand. They must be crazy. They must
have added that sense. What happened is is that like the every single pack
that you can buy in their store has been flagged as a press access thing
and they'll stack okay, so that most just like a bunch of in gang
currency. They must have done that at some point after it came out.
I didn't have all that stuff when we did the quickly Excion trick yourself out.
No, there was there wasn't anything that. I think all those stuff
they give you currency for is just cosmetics. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't
buy any new dances. There's smooth Criminal Dance pretty good. What do they
call it, uh like slippery slick thief? Yeah, something like that's the
name of Okay, yeah, I think so the blutes, the blue currency,
or what you buy the weapon parts with. Can't you only earn those
from matches? Yes, it's just that what they're selling is like coin double
ers. Yes, they sell boosters for that stuff. But I don't like
it. Seems well made for what it is, and it seemed to be
a lot of people playing it. Uh, it was kind of cool to
see Slee's Ball free to play a feeling, Uh not really, all the
people playing it seem like Slee's Balls. Okay, I'll say that in terms
of the free to play currency design and that kind of it didn't feel exploitative
from what I saw. Okay, So like again, it's it's I didn't
see that. I didn't really see a need to spend anything, you like,
the some of the default parts they give you were what I stuck with,
and you can't and you can't spend money to get the gun parts so
that those are all in game. That's unlost, so you know, like
that stuff's all right. But I think I think I did end up spending
a little bit of what I had because I bought sunglasses or something lame like
that. You can also buy nudity what what like? Fully really uh like
it's pretty expensive, but it is like just instead of pants, you're not
wearing any and then they put pixelated mosaic over it. But it's just like
big dangly physics dick that you see in the mosaic and it's really silly.
Uh Do other people see that? Yeah, you can turn it off.
There's like a disabled nudity option, which I assume makes that go away.
Also, I thought it was I thought it was funny. There's also a
pretty expensive hairless option for all the character types. Yeah, like it literally
just removes all the hair texture. Yeah. Yeah, some of that stuff's
real weird. Yeah, I don't know. Expensime digging around and there and
messing with it is Yeah, it seems kind of cool. Yeah, it's
neat. It seems like a game that should be on consoles, like it's
it's just that kind of looseness to its aim and stuff like. It just
feels like the sort of thing that people that it seems like a controller kind
of game I could see that has a shooting and stuff feel. It's okay,
Yeah it's not. It's not the best, but I think the mass
movement and stuff felt really tight. The biggest problem for me is just that
everybody's such a damage sponge. Yeah, nobody goes down very fast. That's
that's that was annoying for sure. Obviously, if you rank your weapons up
enough, I'm sure there would be less of a problem, right, Yeah,
But you know, I probably played I don't know, I played ten
matches or something like that and felt like I was maybe a third of the
way to the next level with the guns that I had equipped. I was
using like a basically an assault rifle that was shooting electricity, and then a
rocket launcher that was shooting rockets like a rocket launcher would electric rockets. No,
just rockets. It's a good old rocket. Yeah, nothing wrong with
a good old rocket, No, it's you want to make a rocket launchers.
You are it's a shooter. I want yea on my steak and a
pan seared. All right, well, that's like a rocket launcher that's on
you mess around with some Diablo three. He has touched it a stuff.
I redown aloadle bit over the weekend, but I didn't fire it up.
It's fun. Just keep hearing stories. It's just like, man, I
liked it originally. Get what you want, yeah, but that it is
kind of weird, like is the shop closed. Yes, the auction house
I think is completely gone, and they've got all the stuff in there for
the expansion. It just says like you can't access the venture mode until you
buy the expansion, but you can't buy that yet, so making a pre
order anyway, What is it venture Mode? It's just it basically just removes
all the cutscenes and it just kind of lets you go into an area and
it fills it with monsters and gives you like you need to kill this many
monsters and these named guys in this specific zone. It's not even you're not
you're not walking through the game. It's like, you're, all right,
we're going back to the map, We're going into the next area, We're
gonn kill these guys. Kind of a challenge mode. Basically, it just
distills like we're gonna do it on diary, I'll run right, Yeah kinda.
So is the game now easier? Is all I keep hearing people talk
about, like the drops are craziness. No, because they they now balance
the difficulty of the game to your level, regardless of where you are.
They also completely changed what the difficulties are called, and how the tears are
arranged and all that stuff, Like they have rebalanced a lot of the game
to where like, So, the funny thing is when I first launched it
and I was, you know, the same character that I've had for you
know, since I last played it. Yeah, it was really hard for
about six minutes until you got your first drop. Yeah, until the first
few drops popped out, and I'm like, oh, these are like forty
percent better than whatever the fuck I have right now. That's keeping but the
balance is there. Well, what's I mean? It's not a difficult game,
but it was never a difficult game on normal. So uh, once
I got you know, kind of well equipped, it felt pretty similar.
Were you playing on normal with that character. Did you bump it up to
like Nightmare? I was playing on normal. I was just I wanted to
see what normal was, and I had a game that was already most of
the way through Act one on normal, which seems weird because I remember bumping
it up. But I don't know what I was doing last time I played
that. But I don't know. People seem like the people who hated it
are playing and going like this is what it should have been all along,
and I think it's it's fine, but I don't know, Like I liked
it originally, so I don't know. It's it's weird, But yeah,
I mean I did too. Obviously, we were not running it all the
way to the end of Inferno exactly. Yeah. I got like that's where
it sort of broke for some people. Is that? But from my from
my perspective, like I got sixty really fun hours out of it and stopped,
and like I was like, well, that's you know, right,
it's a dollar an hour. That's pretty good. But you know, if
you really wanted to do everything there was to do in that game, I
guess I could see why I got frustrating. The whole gem system is still
in place right, like the gems are still there. Yeah, okay,
but I you know, I found items that were better than all the ones
that I had, gems that I got from the auction house, and all
you know, like all my auction house gems are useless. And can you
take the gems out of your old weapons? You can? Right, yeah
you can. So you know, if I get slotted weapons, I'll thrown
back in there. But but they're dropping gems. But the gems are like
it's like plus thirty two strength, and I'm finding things that are like plus
three hundred strength, and it's like, okay, well fuck these gems,
man, you seem dumb. So it sounds like they fixed whatever. I
don't think it was a bug exactly. I think it was more of an
oversight about the way it was designed. Whatever was allowing people to power level
insane rates. Did you see this? No? I didn't see that.
If you could make a new level one character and I forget what the trick
was, but you could group with people that were like max level or close
to it or oh, and you would just get in I guess these you
could power level to max level in like fifteen minutes. Just take a new
character all the way up and then just have Max. I'm just still like
level fifty three or something I would have liked to have. I almost wish,
Yeah, I almost wish I had just like popped out of Max level
character of every type. Yeah, but oh well, where's the fun in
that? Yeah? It was not about fun, man, It's about seeing
the numbers go up. That's right. I want to see the numbers pop
off the guys. I want to see the items pop out of the people's
faces as they explode. I want to check it out. I mean,
it's just it sounds like the loot the lute progression, the lute grind is
way way more satisfying. Though. Yeah, if you like comparing numbers to
other numbers, this is now the game for you. All right, Yeah,
at least more frequently, you know, Colin always was I guess,
but yeah, I don't know. It's a it's a good time, Like
it makes me want to play the expansion when it comes out, Like the
beta kind of left me with a good feeling. And this. Yeah,
now that that this these changes are alive, I'm like, yeah, I'll
totally play through that new act. I'll totally get through that stuff. That
sounds fun. If they said how that integrates with the game, you just
launch it from the menu separately, like it's not part of the store.
It is. It's Act five. Okay, So do you have to take
a gay character through the main story first? I believe so, Okay.
I wonder if that means if you beat Diablo at the end of Act four,
it just like loads you right in seamlessly, like it's I don't know,
just continues the story. I would assume so yeah, because it says
Act five. But yeah, now they load you into this menu where it
already has adventure mode on it. It's just great out and it says like
you can't do this right, but it doesn't say because it's not out yet,
it says you need to buy this. It's kind of weird anyway.
That's out pretty in the march. And yeah, I think it's like the
twenty fifth or something like that. It's a ways off Cup two, three
weeks. That's not that far off for the expansion. Yeah, a three
weeks might as well be a lifetime considering what's coming up before. I guess,
so, yeah, it's kind of yeah, GDC and anything else too,
and then I fooled around with Call of Duty Ghosts they put out DLC.
Yeah, when you fooled around a little bit over the weekend, you
know, things get weird, real weird. Yeah, a lot of cursing.
You know, I don't hear from Ghosts. I know, you don't.
You're really you're really don't really don't you really don't. No, I
just you know, as as we get closer to titan Fall, I figured
it would be a good idea to play some other shooters out there, to
just be kind of like, because I have put Call of Duty Ghosts pretty
far out of my mind at this point. So I was like, Okay,
since this game, since titan Fall is going to be a lot like
this, I should be up on this a little bit, just to you
know, so I can for comparison, refresh where we're at. Yeah,
yeah, still there, still there. I don't know. They put out
the mat pack on PS four, like they're still coming out earlier on Xbox.
Uh, but I don't know. I bought it on PS four.
Well, so it's interesting now because you've been playing a decent amount of Battlefield.
So does it feel like going into Ghosts? Do you feel like your
taste for what you want out of a first person multiplayer shooter have changed,
No, not really, because you know, it's like when you think about
what I want to do when a shooter, it's shoot other people, right.
Both those games have that the stuff. And even when I'm playing Battlefield,
I'm usually not playing Conquest, so I'm not really getting into the vehicle
side of things because i know I'm just like bad at that stuff and i
just don't really care about it. Like it's fun if I'm playing with friends,
Yeah, it's like, Okay, the four of us are gonna play.
Yeah, well it's form a squad. We'll go fucking roll around in
this tank and do dumb shit. Then yeah, that's a completely different thing.
But if I'm just like I'll play a little Battlefield here for a few
minutes, like that's I'm just putting in team death match or squad death match
or something like that and just shooting. So, you know, Ghosts still
feels like a smoother frame rate game like Call of Duty still seems like,
you know, when it comes just raw shooting. I think that's that's more
of the style I'm looking forwards. But also the progression of Call of duty
and the everything of call of duty. Like, I feel like I've gotten
almost all the enjoyment I will get out of that out of it already.
So when's Titan Fall next week? Week from to day. Yeah, it
seems like it's kind of a lot they started. You know, they've they've
been running a bunch of TV ads, so they finally are at a point
where they're like, let's maybe we should let people know those things coming.
And that had even said like you know, it said available on Xbox and
PC. It's like at the at the Microsoft bumper at the end, they
acknowledged that there was a PC version, and I guess but tacitly and acknowledged
there was a three sixty. Yeah, it's kind of interesting. Yeah,
that's out next week soon here we are, Yeah, curious to see how
that all goes. Server launches. Yeah, yeah, for more updates for
Xbox and that same day, right, they moved it up. I think
the Firmare update actually might be hitting today. Oh, it's been in beta
for a while, so I've I've been in the beta for it, which
the only thing I noticed was that they've redesigned the friends app, the friends
list, the friends section the messages and friends stuff, but not how like
pulling friends in and stuff. I actually operate. Have not played any multiplayer
games on an Xbox during this beta, so I have no idea how the
party system has changed. Adding I think I don't remember any other major features.
There's more stuff. They got a list. Some people have been digging
around, like they added support for some headset adapter that they're bringing out.
Yeah. I think someone found that. It's got like fifty hurts support for
people that want to watch TV and PAL regions ye five one optical or something
like that. Yeah, so for people that have those like headsets or whatever,
they hook up that way. I guess. Is the Twitch stuff in
there? It's supposed to be in that update? Is the beta that I
provided with did not have the updated Twitch app in there? Yeah? They
were supposed to get us the Twitch app early and did not for streaming,
Yeah, yeah, never materialized. Yeah, it sounds like like the thing
in there is like I wonder, I wonder if it's gonna have camera support
for a headshot in addition to the game. I don't know. Things got
weird HU with the PlayStation four? Is it the room was the playroom stuff.
I don't mean like a full shot of the connect camera being streamed out,
but I mean like your head in the corner while you are playing game,
kind of like the PS four does it, because I guess the pso
the Xbox One version. From what I've heard, the chat and stuff shows
basically in a snap view, so you're getting, you know, smaller version
of the picture, and you're getting chat and some of its other stuff in
snap But the stuff that they showed, the screenshots they put out and stuff
like that doesn't ever show what the feed looks like. So I don't I
wonder if there's gonna be I like putting out head shot. I think,
you know, you should be able to see people talking. I feel like
just a video game with people talking under it for a live stream, Yeah,
who would watch? That's garbage. It's terrible. I've I've got shots
of it in my inbox if you want me to pull it up. I
feel like I looked at those shots and it didn't din't it. And it
seemed like I saw something that looked like it was a camera shot in the
corner of the snap view, but it didn't show like here's what it looks
like when it's streaming out. I don't know. I don't know what the
options are, like putting out head shots with my AWP. Jeff, Hell
yeah, it's not the AdvP anymore, is it? No? It is.
I thought they I thought they lost all the I thought they lost all
the real gun names. Didn't they thought they lost They didn't? It was
what was? It was like no, because the mod version always had the
real gun names, and when they started selling Counterstrike at retail they changed them.
So there's like a text file you could edit to put the gun names
back to normal or something. But with go and everything, I think that
you know they've got the rights. I want to say that maybe there are
that there might not be getting the rights and no one cares, Like EA
at one point said it was like last year. I think they said like,
yeah, we're not gonna we're dropping this official license for this gun and
we're still going to use the gun. Yeah. I don't know. I
don't know what the legality of reproducing guns second and calling it what it is?
Ohka, is that what it is? Yeah? Out Shot not infringe
upon the right to put arms in video games and call them by their real
name, Yes, the right, the right to a well armed video game
militia. Yeah, that's the other thing is part of the Call of Duty
thing. That's part of that pack. And there are two new weapons in
it, and one of them like the assault rifle. I don't know.
I can't speak to the sniper rifle because sniper rifle, but it seemed like
it was better, which seemed like sod of kind of a dirty thing.
I don't know whatever. Man Club for Life just put dual clabs into every
game. Done, done, and that's pretty much it for me. Uh,
you guys want to talk about some news, Yeah, I've got a
doozy for you. Oh, cell Damage HD. I think you loaded an
old web page. Cell Damage is coming out for PlayStation platforms this April with
cell Damage HD. It's weird. He's like Internet archive, like way back
archive dot org slash cell Damage plus HD. Is that hell we got here?
Yeah? I don't know. I feel like we were just talking about
cell damage and laughing about it in a Cell Damage right, Cell Damage and
now here we are some company called finish Line Games that seems to be founded
by someone who also founded Pseudo Interactive, the original developer of Cell Damage and
Fullado, and we are have announced plans to release a downloadable like remake,
re reimagining. They've used some different length revitalization. I think it's the term
they use, which it's a nice rejuvenation. Okay, we'll bring life back
to this product. It never had it? No, no, never had
it. Where is the fervor where like are they like a settle down there?
We're bringing it back. Stop with the emails already. We heard you,
weird heard you, and we are listening to feedback from the original Cell
Damage guys. We are proud to announce Sell Damage hds coming out for Vita
PS three and PS four, cross by enabled pay one price, get all
three versions. We listened, We listened. Car Combat is back. It
works so well. When they brought Twisted Metal back and people liked that.
Yeah, they're one bananas. No, no banana, Sorry, that's a
Mario Kart thing. Cannot have bananas. They're ice beams, okay, slipping
and slide big hammers. I don't remember much about Sell Damage at this point
other than it was kind of a hilarious joke and not in the way that
like you would want a funny cartoon shaded car combat game to be it was
more like, man, why like this? They were pushing that alongside the
original Xbox and trying to make a big deal about it, and no,
it just no. This was the foot race one that was Freaking Fast.
No, that was it was. That was a PS one game that was
almost the same thing. Freaking fast, freak end fast. No, freaking
like freaking like fucking fast. But they can't say fucking the title. Okay,
okay, okay, you want me to come out and say it,
motherfucker, you're running the game, that endless Runner. It sounds like a
good That sounds like a good. Yes, yeah, it's coming in.
We're bringing it to iOS Nantro. We just have to sell enough copies to
sell Damage HD to raise the funds for this new game we want to make.
It's really our passion project. We had this vision since we started making
it. More was Freaking Fast the original name of that game, and it
changed. I thought it was like wacky something wacky Racesaking Fast one. I
had it for the Dreamcast more running that's Running Wild? Is that what it
was? No, Running Wild is the name of the game that was originally
fucking called Freaking fast because my mind is a death trap for bullshit. That's
what the Xbox should say when you've updated. Motherfuck are you're running? Let's
play some goddamn games, asshole? She's blue Shift did Running Wild? The
other game was called Wacky Rich Gallop Like, did I think or he put
it on our show? I just published it. I know that foot frenzy
footy foot racing, Brad. Do you even know what game we're talking about?
Nothing? Really, it's a cart racer without carts. Yeah, yes,
you're on foot running like Sonic r or something. I'll send an email
to the son they know. No, Sorry, I can't let this go
track and Field Wacky Foots. You were like animals, animals like the title
might have had something to do with the animals. Was there was there any
kind of prehistoric aspect to it? Wait? I'll look under similar games for
Running Wild. Maybe someone will have filled this in Running Hot, Mad Dash
Racing. There it is, okay, okay, HD coming come to you.
Look out that was a Crystal Dynamics joint. Who geez, yeah,
sell Damage, HD? Sell Damage what I never played no Cell Damage,
but I can tell you I do want an HD version of toy commander.
M hmm, who are you in? Look? Well, that's I've been
working on one as. All you had to do is ask I get you
in my private beta. Got it right here. Kickstarter starting, yes EA
published Cell Damage originally okay, uh, and it was I think it was
originally for Xbox and then eventually came out for everything else under the name Sell
Damage Overdrive. It was like they're like, okay, this version was exclusive,
but now it's been on some time and hey, hey sell Damage for
the GameCube. Motherfucker's let's do it. I don't I don't understand how this
stuff happens. Maybe you know, maybe they just founded the studio. They're
the people that I mean, they're people that originally made Sell Damage, so
you would assume that they would have some fondness for it. Somehow they found
the way to get the rights the ips, and they were like maybe maybe
they're just like, we're starting a new game studio. We need to do
something fast so we can have something out there. We know how to do
this. I don't know. I don't know. Give me a game with
no textures, Sell Damage, Okay, it's done. Who just uprights that?
Then? I don't know. Can we license automodel LISTA from Capcom?
No, that's two all right? Fuck, well give me something I could
just turn the resolution up on, got it? Yeah? I don't know.
I think games out terrible, okay, sure, yeah it was like,
yeah, some people, I think I have a fun there's a guy
out there with a fun memory for self damage. Yeah, they're probably working
on it. But good on them. You know, if that's something they
believe in and they're doing it, then then great for them. I just
it's a weird pull. I don't understand. Yeah, like, why would
why would that happen? Why would that happen? AzaC HD, Yeah totally.
There's like night Nightcaster. I'm just making shit up now, HD night
Caster. That's real, right, no cliche? H yes, night Caster,
Nightcaster, Colon Defeat the Darkness. I bet you'd have a hard time
coming up with a name at this point that we're in a video game.
Oh you haven't. You know, there's a lot of stuff I could say
that I can't say I am polite company. That would not be the title
of a video game. Are you sure? I'm very sure. Luckily you're
not among polite companies, So lay it on us. Now it's no,
I can't. I won't have it. Uh, that Xbox one update is
out, so okay, So when you go to turn on your Xbox with
your voice and doesn't work, that's why. Yeah, they really should.
Well, not that I I don't know about anybody else or nothing, I
ever actually turn it on with my voice, but there should be some kind
of notification. I don't. I don't understand what you guys are saying.
What do you mean it will connect us? So if it is, if
it has taken a firm more update and it's gonna like apply that update.
When I turn it back on, it fully powers down and will not power
on with voice, which they again, this was one of those things prior
to launch they said like, oh yeah, it's gonna be able to do
firm more updates and you're not even gonna lose your game state. Right,
that's how great this is. And we're like, wow, that sounds really
awesome. It doesn't even do anything close to that, right, you still
have to manually all it pushed the updates. All it does. All it'll
do is download the update file while it's asleep, and then you have to
manually update. It will even download game patches for most games automatically. For
me really, for like disc based games, I have like five games in
Q that's say, like this game is not fully installed. You need to
put the disk in if you want us to download this patch. That's weird,
which doesn't make any sense to me. I have I have had a
pull game patches like it downloaded. That ridiculous. What was that Dead Rising
patch like eleven gig or something in saying, so I think it might be
pulling patches for digital games? Oh really not what retail? Yeah I have
I have Dead Rising digitalis yeah, yeah, like I've never seen Dead Rising
show, but since they rolled out that new queue, it's like five It's
like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Call of Duty, and three other Right,
it was disc stuff for me that it hadn't fully updated. Yeah, and
it wanted me to put the disc in, right, so instead I deleted
the game. That's im I almost did that too. It's time hey hey
buddy, hey bra but yeah, the Shaka it's time to update. But
yeah, the whole the whole point is like the the Xbox is dust,
Xbox on Command is so unreliable to begin with that you don't know if it's
just not picking it up or if there's an update waiting. I tried twice
and then then I go to manually turn it on, but it is.
It is that. Actually, the Xbox on command has been pretty reliable.
It is still it is the only voice thing that I think I still use.
Really, yeah, I use it like twice. That's the only one.
The all the navigation stuff that works fine for me, but that one
is super spotty. I had I had a friend come over. We're gonna
watch blue rays like friends do all right, blue ray come over, watch
some blue ray ray disc. It was doctor No all right, and it
was okay, you had the nice little fifty years of James Bond and you
download the yeah. Yeah. But I started on the PS four and put
it. I was like, okay, you know blue rays they go on
to PlayStation, they go on to Sony device. Yeah, okay, yeah
uh and it just hung there. It's just weird. Yeah, like little
spinning thing was in one black and then the spinning thing was on screen.
And we don't know that I've watched a movie on either device. I had
never put a disc in that machine. So I was like, it is
my PlayStation four broken and it's my friend's nice blue ray collection that he spent
like one hundred bucks on. So I was like slowly took the disc out
after what I had to yank the power out. The back thing was just
hard locked. Cool. Ejected it and then put it in the Xbox one.
And then that gets funny going into my receiver because the resolutions change,
like when it goes or that, you know, it seems to reset the
h and my connection. It's a resolution thing or it's enabling the HDCP on
it or whatever. But my screen goes black and then I can't see it
doesn't pick it up, but it doesn't handshake again. Awesome. So I
stuck there saying Xbox off, yes, yeah, and then that worked.
I turned off. Yeah. I shut mine off many times with the TV
turn off. Yeah. Well, I have that problem where sometimes the screen
just goes black and it is still responding to you know, like audio is
still coming out, and you know, I can move around aid some dashboard
somewhere, but when I pop out of a game, it has just gone
completely black, and I have to turn it off that way and then unplug
it because when you power back up it's still a black streen. Oh this
it's pretty awesome. This came back. But then yeah, I like,
unplug the h mine, get the blue ray what you know what worked the
PLS three weird? Yeah yeah yeah. P S three's got that nice bluetooth
media remote. It's got fully functional blue ray player. That's that's what I
would use, works too. Yeah, bumm me out being like, yeah
that is weird. It's kind of a bummer. You know what, it
actually did watch one watching on the Xbox Winning for you know what is a
competent mature video game console PlayStation three. It's mature, it's of age.
Sure, yeah, I mean it's spent some time in that digital locker and
now it really plays those blue rays back really well, like a motherfucker on
mine last night. Nice? Yeah, what was the DVD True Romance?
Okay? Sure, our our IVY receivers just really unreliable everything studio sources.
So I'm this Devil's well but yeah, that's kind of messed up. I
have to I feel like I've said this before, I have turned my ship
on, so I have to turn my receiver off and back on to get
the audio to work, or turn it all on in a very specific order.
It's just it's fucking sucks. It sucks. Well, So I'm new.
I'm new to having a receiver that takes video in. I just had
an old stereo receiver up until like three months ago. I got that new
Sony and roughly fifty percent of the time that I changed to any console or
Apple TV or PC or whatever is hook into that thing. I've got a
bunch of flickering pixels all over the screen. Cool, just kind of but
it's not as sporadic or I mean, it's not as widespread as that.
It's pretty sporadic, just like, yeah, they're sort of popping in.
They're more like fireflies. They're they're all over the place, but not like
covering the screen. All I have to do is change another input and back
and it goes away. So I'm sitting here going like, do I need
a rmy this thing? Is it busted? Or is it just a cork
of this model? Right? It's causing this happen. Okay, but it
sounds like you guys have all kinds of problems with your HM. I can't
tell if it's a part or the cable, right, that's the thing I
don't either or the just the bad handshake or an old receiver. I don't
know. We put a man in the moon. I can part it everything
SDI smart House. Yeah, it's the way to go. Yeah, those
black magic boxes one like bucks whatever whatever happened to video over either it HD
based T. I was excited about that. That sounded awesome. They don't
want you that Comcast doesn't want you. That's right, maybe not probably don't.
Uh Batman, Yes, that's it, Batman. Do you hear Drew's
Batman? He just and here's Batman. Hey, guys, got a new
trailer out. I'm Batman stuff getting stuck him my ride. It's a cool
badmobile. It's the alien Bastards. You're gonna pay for It's a it's a
pretty neat looking batmobile. It is. It looks like it looks kind of
like a hybrid of the the Batman begins Batmobile and the tumbler. Yes,
and I don't know, and like open wheel racing. This maybe the Michael
Keaton one. I didn't see it either. Batman Arkham Night. So this
is a reboot? What kind of night? This is the sequel? This
is rock Steady Studio is returning to the series. It made famous. Hey
guess what they never left? Okay, wait, what was Arkham City?
Okay it was Arkham Asylum, Yeah, arkhamas City city and then spoiler,
yeah, somebody's dead at the Arkhams at the end of Arkham City. Okay,
and now this picks up about a year later. What wasn't their origins?
Yes, there's origin that came out a few months ago. It was
not good. It's a different studio. Okay, it's different company, different
quality of product. It's the same franchise, yes, more or less.
It was pre Orangines. It was a prequel prequel to Arkham Oranges. Get
it one squeeze him. Yeah. No, it's a really slim window when
those those oranges are great. You want to see oranges for about four hours,
never from concentrate. So where are we telling a story now? It's
so it's Arkham at night. Oh okay, finely, it's it's set in
Gotham City. Oh wow. It is a year after Arkham Arkham City ended.
It is the balance of power has shifted. I'm practically quoting the press
release here, okay, because I when I'm watching that trailer made me feel
like we're telling the origin story. It was like, you know, the
vo is all a letter like from Batman's dad, right, like his last
will and testament, Like I'm leaving all you, I'm leaving this money to
you and like basically become Batman because you have all this money, do good
in the city and don't let people down. You're a good kids. I'm
sorry. A couple of details I just mentioned I think actually came from the
game and four article. I apologize. Well, I'm glad you sourced your
Yeah, it's on their cover. They got a bunch stuff out there.
They have apparently a very detailed article. But the stuff that they did reveal
straight from water is that driving around in the city. Yeah, you can
drive deal the batmanbile. So it seems like they're sticking with the open world.
I don't. I wonder what they're going to have to do to the
city to make that work, because if you just dropped a batmobile in their
existing city, I think that'd be real stupid. The game with former article
addresses that very specifically. Okay, well, and I guess it's addressed much
of other gameplay stuff. Yeah, so this is only coming to PS four
Xbox One, NPC. It is not an old video game? Is that
new video game? Kind of the only exciting thing I've heard about it so
far twenty seventeen. No, it's out this year, so it'll be a
mess now, Yeah, rock that. They are also building this as rock
Steady Studios conclusion to the series, meaning it is their conclusion to the series,
but maybe not necessarily the The press release says the conclusion of the Arkham
story. Specific The quote I pulled out of the press release is rock Steady.
It is rock Steady Studios conclusion to the series. Hang on in quotes.
I think they're saying that. Maybe they said somewhere else later on the
press base. I didn't read the rest of it because it's a press like.
Hearing that that, I feel like there are two ways I can take
that. One is we really need to put rock Steadies name in front of
this to remind people that this is the rock Steady Batman, or like you're
kind of like you're implying that, like this might be rock Steadies last maybe
they'll move on to something else. But it says it's it says in the
explosive finale to the Arkham series, Okay, so so this should be this
should be the last Arkham game, but that kind of doesn't mean. Yeah.
Also, it just means that they'll finally start over with a new style
of Batman and right, and we'll just drop Arkham from the title and keep
going and keep going with it. Who knows. Uh, Yeah, I
don't know. That's potentially super interesting. I thought Origins was not. It's
not great, not my thing, and not necessarily because Origins did it poorly,
but because Origins did it again. So I don't think it did it
as well from what I played of it. Yeah, but I'm saying I
don't think they did it poorly. I mean it's not it was not.
It was not as great as it's not a stuff I guess, but you
know, it's just it's just the well worn a well worn concept. At
this point, a fourth Batman game using these concepts, even moving it to
new console. Mmmmm maybe maybe if they do something different. Sure you can
drive it does not there you go boom, yeah, drive you drive?
Am I gonna get out of the car and take mission? Like forget the
part where the traversal is kind of awesome and floating around the city is rad
now you can drive a car. I don't know. That doesn't well,
it doesn't immediately strike me as like, oh awesome. If the drop Batmobile's
got a bunch of cool gadgets in it that could make it worthwhile. Maybe
it does kind of seem like a little step back right, like I could
fly before. Yeah, kind of it can fly. The sounds like the
Game in Former story implies there's some improvements to that stuff. It's like getting
in a car in Saint Row four, Like why would you do it unless
the mission specifically forces you to do it, like you just have the options
you have at your disposal or so much more fun. Please have eight guns
now and they're just gonna shoot you down if you try to fly. That
sounds like a bummers. It's like, drive into an area and take this
mission to take up the AA guns and then you can fight that. Yeah,
Batman, it's weird. I don't know the climactic event that you were
waiting for in that series took place at the end of the last game,
or did it. I guess yeah. Anyway, whatever, They've got their
story and there are there are Batman has always had a billion villains, you
know, I know like there's I don't like if you're if you're saying like,
oh, it's got to be locked into Batman versus Joker for all time
like that, I don't want that. It's more that it's more that they
already did that and it's over and everything else is just gonna be feel like
an afterthought coda. I don't know. They're like I said, there are
a billion villains. It depends on how they build them up. There's plenty
of reasons to to make that stuff work. Maybe, No, what are
the games again? There's that Arkansylums Batman Sunsoft did for the Nes, There's
Batman for the Genesis. There's the Batman looking boss in Revenge of Shinobi.
Okay. There's the Spider Man game where you take the pictures to get more
web fluid for the Genesis. That count. No, Spider Man's in it,
okay, he's cool. Origins was the portable one? Is that the
veto one? No, that's black Gate, which is coming to PEC.
Trying to think if I missed one. I didn't just not play Origins.
You just didn't play Origins. Okay, I gave you a steam code for
or Liver. I don't remember. I got one with my video card and
I played. MM. Persona five is coming to North America. I knew
that already. I'm on the mailing list. Yeah, I'm the Persona mailing
date No. Twenty fifteen. Get your p s three's ready. Yeah,
you better get in there, get these video sessions. Yeah. I mean
that script has been sitting on your desk months now. I've been going back
and forth with changes. Fair enough, all of those Persona games are in
fact coming to the US. Uh. Twenty fifteen will also see the release
of Dancing All Night, the rhythm game, and then in fallow twenty fourteen,
we'll see Ultimax, which is the sequel to the fighting game, and
Persona Q, which is the Entry and Odyssey style Persona game coming for three
D. Which one is Dancing All Night that is the rhythm game for Vita.
Which one is Persona five that is the sequel to one of America's greatest
video games. They hated in Japan. Every everyone or everyone else doesn't play
I don't know, pon it for some reason just only works in America.
Yeah, in this specific location. May new Persona game comes out. In
California, they have to release it on a weekend. It's true. Yeah.
Otherwise they just they don't go to work and nothing ever happens. So
this is the one where it's like one of those one of the empathy games
that you play as Chia. It's been a tough last ten years. She's
gotta got a hot dog cart. Yes, yeah, it's all black and
white. So mostly black and white. Cha please, You just gotta make
a living, take your daughter to school, and it's just hard. Things
got hard after Charlie left. Yeah, fucking asshole. It gets on a
train and leaves. You don't don't you care about my daughter? Your daughter
looking behind you don't look back to Charlie. Just just buy in a Buh.
You gotta reunite, you gotta find you know, your old buddies.
Just get bent. Yeah, because I'm in prison, right, help you
gotta break me out, dog, I'm here for life. It's like I
got nothing to live for otherwise, just here knitting in people with chairs.
Uh yeah, Person of five is they haven't presumably a role playing game details
right like on the now they put out that trailer. I think that's that's
pretty much all that they've ever shackled to a chair. Yeah, what does
it mean? Just pick up the chair and just walk away. It's not
really you can think about it. It's not heavy. You're like, there's
like a ball and there's a shackles. There's like a ball and chain on
it. It seemed like we real I used to get free from whatever set
up they had placed in that trailer. But now if you're hanging upside down
from a telephone, I'm a real Harry Houdini. That's exciting. Yeah,
they should bring that stuff over. It seemed pretty natural that they're going to
It's cool they're bringing all of it over. That's not they're not just picking
and choosing. Who is So is the parent company of Atlas bringing that over?
You mean Sega? Is it Sega bringing that over? Bald? I
mean Atlas is still kind of a separate entity, but it sounds like Sega's.
Yeah, they still have their localization team, at least the Atlas people.
I have not heard of those people getting I've not heard of cuts happening
to any of those people. I don't really stay too up on that stuff,
but I assume we would know Son because anytime anything happens with a persona
a bunch of people right into tell me about it, and I go,
yeah, no, I see it too. I'm not I'm good, thank
you, zine. I'm here. Fucking Twitch played Pokemon. They finished it
sixteen days, seven hours, forty five minutes. Twitch got behind this in
kind of a weird way, like they put out a press release after it
was finished with a bunch of stats because they were like, look at how
awesome this is. We are the best. Our chat was fucked across the
entire site for like a couple of weeks. Nobody else do this. No,
but nobody else do this, except now everyone's doing this. They put
out some stats. One point one million accounts entered chat commands and there were
nine million total uniques over the course of the run. Nine million people theoretically
caught some part of that. Who knows how many of those people were and
accounts were individuals running chat scripts and bought NEETs and all sorts of other stuff
to try to, you know, send more commands than they would normally.
The viewer count will fluctuate depending on the time of the day. It seemed
like at night things would get done. When it got down to about forty
thousand people that's the magic number as opposed to like one hundred and twenty.
I think it might have been the peak, but it was interesting to see
them touting it and then saying like this is the power of the Twitch platform,
the interactivity and blah blah blah and all this other sort of stuff,
and and you know, like I like, I thought they have started up
and they're doing another Pokemon game. The channel that was running. It's just
like, here's another there's Pokemon Crystal. I don't know, uh, which
is a bummer. Like I wish that this could have been a one off,
special thing that was like, hey, we guys, we did it,
and maybe you know, fewer people care about it. I don't.
I don't know. I haven't heard anyone talking about the new Well there were
lads on that thing, right, Oh yeah, okay, it's probably a
partner channel. The guy it's probably making some kind of money if they're not
Twitch certainly. So yeah, and they had to, you know, they
had to fix chat a couple of times. Like it was a good stress
test for their system because you know, normally they'll run, you know,
they run all sorts of events that pull in those numbers, like reviewers.
You know, the big legal legends championships and shit like that, but chat
doesn't get hit that hard. So it was a real strain, or it
seemed like it was a real strain on twitch Chat, so they probably had
to make that more robust just to make it work. It's all based on
IRC all, there's all Their whole back end is you actually log into twitch
chat with an IRAC client if you want. Can you change the channels?
It's no, it's it's weird. The way they have it built is really
strange. So yes, but you have to connect to a different server per
channel or something. It's a weird. Can you can you make Twitch split?
No, you cannot ride in on a split and get ops can't take
over Twitch place. Pokemon Yeah yet set up an egg drop in there?
Yeah fuck DCC Yeah, yes, Pokemon. So that's how they were distributing
the ROM and then XDCC send one. Uh, the Tony Hawk game is
mobile? Moving on? Yeah, I'm making new two Tony Hawk game,
but it's for phones. Maybe it'll be good. I don't know. They're
doing mo cap for it, so clearly they're trying to do something. Ride
your phone. Yeah, probably you probably ride the phone. Maybe you know,
that could still be cool, but you know it's I was hoping for
something, a big crazy investment in console. Tony Hawk two, farfick newgan
Ali Ali one is coming to the PC. Yeah, yeah, we can
capture it. Hell yeah, a platform that people actually own. Hooray.
It's the good thing about this indie push for Vita games is that, yeah,
they'll eventually all come to the PC and just then we can finally show
the world. Yeah, Luke Forrouser's speaking of those games out on the eighteenth
for PCPs three and Vita finally. Yeah, it's a fun game. I
played that waiting forever for that game. Yeah yeah, Psyched it's two weeks
away. Yeah it is, isn't it? Yeah? All right, here's
here's my favorite quote of recent memory. Okay, just think of paying ninety
nine cents just to get Mario to jump a little higher. That's from a
professional jackass. Seth Fisher, who was a shareholder in Nintendo as a part
as a part of Oasis Management, which is a Hong Kong based investment firm
that owns shares in Nintendo, wrote an open letter to Iwada and of course
publish it where he said, like Nintendo needs to needs to get on phones,
and that was the idea, idea, just think to get Mario to
jump a little higher, just a little higher. As a holder of what
is arguably the largest library of casual games, Nintendo was well placed to make
an immediate entry into mobile again understanding nothing about mobile games or Nintendo's early catalyst.
No, that's right, he's an idea, said he didn't know it.
Part of it was a good ideas. Man. Look, you could
put Nintendo's early stuff on phones. It would probably play okay. But to
think that that would be a good experience, that would be that would worthy
of the Nintendo Seal of Quality. Yeah, is a different fucking story.
Well that's why I need to just pay a little more so I can jump
a little higher. Put so you're right, Yeah, I don't know what
the fuck I was thinking. Prince money. Yeah, fuck man, I
could put my plunger in my freezer and then it would be cold. I'm
an ideas guy. That's pretty good. Yeah, cold plunger. That makes
a lot of sense. What if I put bread in a Suvie machine?
Would it never be toast? Just be warm bread? Would that work?
Would that be like a good way to return to like fresh bread, like
nice oven warm. What would happen, what would happen, What would happen?
What would happen? I'm an ideas guy, all right, dough that
I want to see? Yeah, that I want to see. An intend
of responded, of course, you know, like so the story end of
getting around. Reuters picked it up, Bloomberg picked it up, and then
game sites started kind of going off of that stuff. We consider individual requests
separately within the company, but I don't think we would announce the results thereof
what does that even mean? That means like, oh, yeah, we
hear all side sources of shit. But even if we were to take advice
from any of you fucking assholes, we're not gonna get out there and say,
like, good idea, We're gonna get right on this seth Fisher,
Thanks dude, fuck man ninety nine sets to jump higher. That's gonna solve
all our problems, except for the part where that would just turn him into
Luigi and ruin every fucking game ever. Jack off open letters. Yeah,
I'm gonna get something off my chest. I can't reach this block. They
could be making so much more money. I've got more money than time,
and I need to reach this block. What is in this question mark block?
I don't know. I jumped and hit it and it's and I need
to wait a day for the coin to pop out. Fuck. Ultra street
Fighter four will theoretically be the final version of street Fighter four. Okay,
maybe what were the last one? The final one? No, there are
three out now. Yeah, there's a Super street Fighter four, Super street
Fighter four, Super street Fighter four Arcade Edition, and then Super street Fighter
for Arcade Edition twenty twelve. Jeff, why does no one else do this?
Because they I mean, I think they're doing this sort of stuff,
Like they didn't sell all of those Some of those were just big patch upgrades,
big balance changes. I think twenty twelve was just a yeah, yeah,
that was just an update like that, the equivalent of like selling a
Game of the Year edition with all the mattas that is. That is more
or less how they've treated it kind of. I mean, I think some
of those that content debuted with those new versions, right, like a some
of it added care so you know, there were cases, and they added
costumes along awail a lot too. So Ultra will be available sort of like
how they did with Super You can upgrade your existing copy of the game digitally,
or you can just buy it new on a disc, which is useful
because people running fighting game tournaments might not have Internet in whatever hotel ballroom they're
hold up in and they need a disc, and so the disc will have
all the costumes unlocked and all this other stuff. Are there new characters?
Yes, Ultra, Yes, I believe five new characters. I want to
say they've anounced four of them and have not announced the fifth. So,
but the thing they did announce, which I believe, happened during the so
so Cal regionals which are happening over the weekend. Uh cross. Yes,
no additions select in that so edition edition. Okay, so if you want
audition edition. So if you want to play street Fighter four, no,
so if you want to play Ken from a street Fighter four versus is like
Ken from Super street Fighter. Yes four. Yes, you can send the
different versions of a character against each other, including the new You know,
they're rebalancing everything for Ultra, so it'll be that A twenty twelve, a
Super and regular. That's crazy. They've done this before with a Hyper Hyper
street Fighter two. They put out a version where it's like, okay,
all the street Fighter twos you can you can you know, have the different
balance changes and there it's kind of a mess. It's kind of a mess,
but it's like a fun, crazy dumb thing. Like you know,
some of the characters from Original street Fighter four are just like crazy overpowered compared
to what those characters are the way the balance has changed now, right,
so you know you at the end of the life of it, fuck it,
man, throw it open party. That's fun. Yeah, okay,
I mean, you know, I'm not like current enough with the game or
the a lot of the iterations they've done to really like necessarily get a lot
out of that myself, right, somebody will. Yeah, I think it's
super fun. That's cool. I thought Hyper street Fighter two was. It
was a cool idea too back in the day, but it was kind of
a mess. And spots and that's it for news. Say one has got
anything, m and the news I have something, Jeff. Yeah, I'm
not sure. I don't know what kind of emails you got mm hmm.
But I was alerted to something by a Twitter user, all right, with
the recent military action that Russian troops taken in the Ukraine region. There's been
a change to the signal on u PB seventy six. Really, yes,
you're gonna play it? Uh, you your rings? Here's here's all right.
I'll bring up the most recent recording of a Yeah, that sort of
sounds like same thing, right. Apparently it is more staccato then it has
been in uh in times past. Really, so it's a slightly shorter tone.
Yes, what does it mean? What does it mean? Probably means
they just upgraded the equipment or something, or maybe that's how they're planning on
invade as the invasion signals. Yeah, I'm loading it up over here.
Okay, so there's a there's a post on Reddit. Yeah, the guy
who learned it to me was Steve Krasinski. What is uh? Nobody knows
from where it originates? Is that possible? I don't know. Well,
if it's in an area that you can't really get to, you can triangulate
it down to a certain point. Yeah, but m hm hmm, let's
see if this is actually a place. Maybe that's how they awake the awaken.
Their name was Evil that sleeps beneath the waves. That's how they summon
the old ones to their cause. This is happening now, Yeah, yep,
yep, that's waking up. All right, ladies and gentlemen, this
is happening now. Do not freak out, do not panic, this's just
in. Uh, pitch pitch lower and pitch well the pitch. You can't
always determine that when you get into these Wait, so this is a live
one? Is there is there a recording that was that was upper side band
all? Uh, go to the main feed. Please tune to four forty
hurts. Okay, Oh wait, I'm getting something referred to as the helicopter
sound. Okay, that could be someone else trying to jam it. It's
thought to be interference from a one hundred killer Hurts Chakra Slash Lauren rs d
N ten transmitter too close to the buzzer m See, yeah, there's your
problem. See now, Okay, I dig the sound of it. Yeah
yeah, don't listen to it for too long, don't don't why dwell activate?
Okay, he's only got half of the code downloaded. Order. What's
the name of that thing? UVB seventy six UVB twitch plays UVB seventy six
buzz stop. I just think uzz stop buzz nine. Can we take this
into diplomacy mode. Please, it's getting a little crazy. I just think
there is no diplomacy, comrade. I just think if you B forty,
every time you bring that thing up UB forty live stream is something completely different,
So you be forty one. Sounds like this, but wait, weird
they're both playing the same thing. Don't don't do well that ud rud one?
Gosh, yeah, I wonder if if the events are related. Yeah,
I mean if it is some military coordination signal, it would make sense,
I guess. So yeah, I don't know. Whole thing sounds pretty
shitty. You know, it's to these radio signals. No, no,
no, no, no, let's get into emails. Wait, I had
a news okay, go on short piece of news, all right. Gabe
Newell was doing an AMA right before this, and ask me anything. Yes,
American movies. Somebody who's asking him about the International four. They were
attempting to move it to Key Arena this year, okay, which is way
way bigger than ben A Royal Hall, which is where they had been having
it. The International is the big Dota tournament, of course. Yeah are
you going, I don't know, sh go probably almost last year? Yeah,
well that all these months to plan. Now. Yeah, well so
the Benar Royal only held twenty five people and the tickets sold out in like,
you know, six minutes or whatever, and it was just a huge
pain in the assid you know, we could get press access, but blah
blah blah. It was a lot of people were very frustrated with that whole
process of trying to get into that thing. Uh and key arena if they
get in there. He didn't confirm it. He said, we're working on
it. You know, we hope that's how it goes. We'll let everybody
know. That thing has over seventeen thousand seats as they proper. That's where
the Sonics played when they were still the Sonics. Yeah, they are.
The NBA games happened there. So yeah, hopefully that works out. You
know, that's a whole shipload more seats for that thing. But we would
lose a lot of its intimacy. Yeah, that's true, but I don't
know. Screen would be way bigger. Yeah, I don't know where it's
in Seattle, Okay, Yeah, yeah, I'll probably go to that.
You should go enjoy life, should Yeah? What else are you doing?
These video games? They're not for fun? Though, that's for sure.
I've got some emails. All right, let's talk about emails. BombCast a
giant. Bomb dot com is where you should send your emails if you want
them to be read by one of us and then potentially and then potentially selected
for. Yeah, someone might read it if you want it to be read.
I'm not saying it's gonna be not a miracle worker. Uh, we
have selected, I've I have probably picked too many of them. But let's
just get into it. Max in Australia writes and says, look, motherfucker,
I'm a dork, says the guy wearing thongs with jeans and at work,
and you're from Sydney, the la of Australia. Uh huh, she's
getting real in there. I don't know. I don't know what's happening.
I don't fucks. The real beef happening is in the water in Australia.
Australian beef, yeah, Sydney. Okay. So what we got We got
Sydney beef and Melbourne Melbourne beef. Yeah, okay, Melbourne Melbourne Melbourne identity.
A lot of anonymous emails this week. A lot of people wrote in
with stuff. Some fucking shit. Man. Some whistleblowers, yeah, yes,
some toward hushmails coming in. Uh, this is anonymus email. For
example, I work full time as a system's administrator. Some of these I
just said, maybe I shouldn't say this guy's name. Okay, this is
this is such a making the call. Yeah, making the call? Like,
man, maybe this guy at work full time as a system's administrator for
one of the big four banks in the city and part time as a contracted
game developer. Wow into the In two thousand eight, I graduated college with
a degree in computer science and network technologies with a small minor and game design.
I almost immediately got what I thought was my dream job, working for
a big studio under a huge publisher on a new Triple A title. I'm
just from my experience in school with the Unreal Engine. After almost four years
of hard work, the publisher closed down our studio in twenty twelve without ever
announcing the title I had been slaving away on since graduation. With a blank
resume in hand, I was unable to find work within the industry and was
forced to move back East. My condolences to those hit by the recent layoffs.
Thankfully, months down the line, friends from the now shutdown studio reached
out to me, offering some small contracts on a few independent titles. Now
two years later, I have a small handful of independent and even a few
Triple A titles under my belt as a contractor, and my contract work isn't
slowing down at all. I mainly focus on the following within these contracts profile
slash, data synchronization, across platforms, leaderboards, internal analytics and logging,
and micro transactions. Right, you're a monster? Oh no. Now,
having experience with Frostbite, Unreal and the Hero Engine, each company greatly varies
with their contractual approach. We're talking about like Frostbite, like how's that work?
And across studio and stuff. So I think this is primarily frosch that
EA has their own internal wiki filled with information about the inner workings of Frostbite,
making my job much easier. They are also one of the better companies
in the business when it comes to licenses and open source. Hard to believe,
I know, wow, Now they use a fair amount of open source,
like the most of their games have like a hey, you need to
go to this webpage to see what open source shit we used in this game
because we need to say that. Yeah, somebody, somebody reached out on
Twitter after last week and said uh STIA had actually formed like an engineering strike
team once they had stopped licensing external engines settled on Frostbite, Like there is
a group that just develops like tools and stuff for Frostbite. That makes sense.
That makes sense most of the time. Dealing with companies using the unreal
our hero engine, their answer to any problem they arise is simply read the
fucking manual, which he spelled out for me in case I didn't know what
that meant, which thank you. Which makes trying to accomplish my task difficult
since as a contractor, I'm never working with the entire code base, just
bits at a time. I don't have access to most debugger developer tools,
especially custom modifications at the engine level. Recently, a law was passed stating
that any company contracting out workers for more than twenty hours a week are required
to bring these people on as part time employees. This has made for some
very interesting negotiations with companies asking for me to either not specify how long a
particular task took, or to split my standard one to two weekend workload into
at least a month, stopping each week at nineteen point five hours. I'm
also pleased to say I'm now doing contract working on an unannounced next gen new
IP set to reveal at E three ps. There's nothing more I want I
want than the book on what the fuck happened with Battlefield four. Also,
Fortnite isn't real, merely a tech demok. Okay, wow, man,
emails are heating up. Yeah, all right, take that Sydney man.
That was interesting. That's what I call an email. Yeah, yes,
I yes, I am not surprised this year. You know, hey,
who knows? We don't know who this is. He could have made all
that ship up. Yeah, Fortnite could be shipping next week for all window,
but I doubt it. Another anonymous email comes in. I'm an ex
LucasArts employee. I was reminiscing with an ex Lucas buddy and he reminded me
of the Lucas Arts shit Bandit the lucasartship band. Yeah, I do it,
went something of those ceiling tiles and put it all up there. It's
been just under a year since the studio shutdown development. So here's an insider
exclusive periodically over the course of a few years. I've heard as far back
as nine or ten, someone would enter a stall in the restroom and proceed
to deliberately shit on and in everything but the toilet. There would be smears,
handprints, and footprints, but no fingerprints and no tracks leading out,
meaning that whoever did it wore gloves and had shoes specifically for this task.
It's weird to actually tell someone about out this because it's totally something that should
never happen at work. But when it would occur, it just seemed like
par for the course, like the ship. Then it's struck again. Towards
the end when Disney bought us and everything was quotes business as usual. It
happened about four times over that six month period and then abruptly stopped. As
far as I know, the purp was never caught. He is basically the
DP cooper of fecal crime. Sometimes I wonder if it was George anyway,
That's all I got. Yeah, that's George Lucas probably slipping into stalls and
just like motherfuckers in this place, our shit. So here's some shit.
Man. Oh dude, if this keeps off, we that that all emails
podcast we just talk about it might be become a reality. Right, this
is gold you're inside scoops happy, Yeah, exactly intense scoops all right,
James from Australia writes in and says, James from Australia. Here are given
the surprising number of mentions of Australia over the last few podcasts. I thought
it would be very Unaustralia until at the inaccuracies of my supposed countrymen to stand.
Thongs are acceptable to wear in almost any circumstance, but never with long
pants. First, Max was probably lying about having a job and wears his
thongs and jeans while on a Sydney street corner playing some Swedish steel drum thing.
And then he provided some fun facts about Australia, which I figure,
you know, if we're gonna really gonna go down this road, we need
to know more about that. We need to get the lay of the lands.
It's really fair. All the deadly animals you hear about live in Sydney
and never come to Melbourne. Okay. The set for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
was unavailable for the music video of California Love, so they just filmed two
Pocket Doctor Dre performing on the streets of Sydney. Melbourne was going to be
the capital of Australia until Sydney whined about it and we had to build the
ship hole. That is our nation's capital, Canberra. That is apparently another
city in Australia, Canberra, and that that's it. Thanks, thank you,
James. The Australian thong debate is rageous. Is it is extremely hot?
We should go to Australia. We probably should go to Australia. The
kilts, we need to know what's going on backs Australia is like Halloween this
year. Whoa weird Yeah, weird time. Another anonymus email. I work
at a popular national big box retail store that is actually the largest and highest
in sales of this chain in the country. Part of that is because we're
located less than three miles from the largest college campus in the US, and
as a result, it's a pretty good microcosm for the popularity of video games.
What was being surrounded by the ideal game buying demographic. At my store,
we almost literally can't sell Xbox ones. Our launched shipment was sixty three.
PS four's weird number but they come in boxes of three and ten Xbox
ones. They come in twos. We had a line for the PS four
full well before midnight the day of release, and even though we sold all
our Xboxes that night, it was through people kind of wandering in overnight on
the twenty second no line. Nowadays, we get about six to nine PS
fours per week, so we've been talking about like there's been some like,
oh, they're cutting off shipments of PS fours to America to sport Japan like
that seemed crazy at the time. This seems to back that up. Nowadays
we get about six to nine PS fours per week and have never been able
to keep them in the store for more than twenty four hours. We've been
sitting on the same three Xbox ones for nearly a month. Wow. They
actually have packaging labels that say they've been sitting in our warehouse since launch.
Since November twenty thirteen, we have actually sold more we use than Xbox once.
It's super weird considering the three sixty was far and away the most popular
system with our college crowd and even today outsells everything but the PS four.
So there you go. Another anecdote about the weird drop off in Xbox one
sales. Side note, no one has asked about titan Fall, but we
do get tons of questions about the release date for Watchdogs. Weird ps The
day before I wrote this, the company had a massive sale and everything in
electronics, during which we sold every PS four in all eight stores in the
market and literally one Xbox one we also sold out if we use in one
day, that's that's weird. Yeah again, and not, you know,
not like we do have a name over this, so you know, I'm
Rina is anonymous, But you know, we don't know that this guy even
works at a at a store. He could be making all this up.
But I feel like we've gotten enough of this now that it's just I've seen
enough pictures of Xbox one cent of stores. It just seems like something's wrong.
Yeah, college is a very sort of bubble environment. Yeah, I
wonder if there's some sociological wildfire that happens when that guy gets a PS four.
You see it and go like I need to get one of those.
Yeah. Yeah, maybe, but maybe the early adopters chose PS four and
that's informing the rest of the right should make sense. Yeah, who knows?
Maybe they're Yeah, maybe there are campuses where it's all xboxes. That
would be as who's the guy who writes all that pop sociology good, the
freakonomics guys Stephen tipping Point and outliers that guy, Nate Silver, Malcolm Goldlow.
Yeah, okay, yes, yes, right about PlayStations, right,
yes, Matthew writes in and says, I know it's been a few weeks
since you talked about it, but I want to I wanted to contribute to
the flip flop discussion. Jeez. I work in a molecular molecular biology laboratory
at you see Berkeley and use some fairly hazardous materials radioactive isotopes, mutant viruses,
concentrated acids, etc. Despite this, people still wear flip flops in
the lab. As you can imagine, this has led to several chemical burns
and general injuries over the years. We're supposed to wear long pants and clothes
toad shoes all the time, but people insist on wearing whatever. I think
this is a testament to people's love of their flip flops, no matter the
hazard. I'm originally from Philadelphia, so I find all this very strange.
Flip flops are for the beach, and that's it. Keep up the great
work. It helps the hours of experiments go by. I especially enjoy the
science sections. You guys get close enough. I'll take it. I'll take
it. Not the flip flops though, No, he's right, scientists scientists
agree that's right. No flip flops. Well, regarding the risky flip flop
wearing Berkeley, yeah, totally so, I'm surprised that they're wearing clothes at
all, Taylor writes. In says, a few weeks ago, Jeff claimed
he would be able to identify where a fast food burger came from based purely
on taste alone. I'll back that up. I still feel that way.
My buddies, some fellow listeners, and I were hanging out one night and
started talking about this. My friends were flabberc acid at the claim, especially
after I said I thought I could do the same. We talked about making
plans for another time to try it, but that was it until last night
and impromptu get together quickly escalated into Burger Challenge twenty fourteen. It was brought
up, quickly dismissed, then brought up again. We hashed out the rules.
Decided where to get burgers, then split into two burger acquisition teams.
We had eleven burgers. One was accidentally emitted, which through the experiment off
a little bit. But it turns out it wouldn't really have made much of
a distant difference, as I only guessed three out of ten correctly. Wow,
say hard. I'm no burger connoisseur, but I eat out enough to
the point where I was very surprised at how difficult it was to actually guess.
I think like ten is a lot, like there are there ten fast
food places that would apply it. So I think he has run down what
he's picked up. Here Here are Here are the rules. Go to the
establishment and ask for a cheeseburger and take what they give you. No quarter
pounder, which cheese, just cheeseburger. We did have one exception, that
one like you just take whatever. See that would throw it off for me
because I never order that, right, we'd have to get like you get
no less, I would get a cheeseburger. Catch up only that that is
how I would get it. Well, I think it's as long as you
standardized, yes, yeah, that you should be able to do that.
Otherwise you'd be able to like, for instance, some Guntalds cheeseburger has diced
onions on it, right, default, Yeah, you'd be able to tell
the part just by the weird little extras, but like no signature burgers,
not a big Mac because like, oh, was there bread in the middle
of this? Yes? Or no blindfold challenger and give them a part of
the burger. Challenger makes a guest. Guess. Challenger remains blindfolded, and
the results are not shared until all all all burgers are tasted and guess is
mate. We had burgers from Okay, Jack in the Box, Carl's,
junr McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's. Those all sound like ones. I
could totally get dairy queen, no idea what their burger's taste like, I
would not. There's no dairy queen near me. Five guys which actually accidentally
got left out. I guess Del Taco Wiener Schnitzel Taco has burgers. I
guess. I know I don't eat Del Taco enough too, I would.
I would probably not be able to guess, and I would in fact say
that like by adding all these random burgers to it, that would make it
actually super impossible yeah, because then you're doubting yourself, right. And two
from local burger chain Burgerville. They have an original cheeseburger that has a special
spread and a Tillamook cheeseburger. Both were included because they each offer something different
in the way of cheeseburgers. Restaurant options are obviously going to be different in
your area, but I want to share our parameters. I was only able
to put pick out Burger King only after already guessing Burger King, then eating
another burger and saying, oh shit, this one is Burger King, McDonald's
and Dairy Queen. My burger world was shattered after reading that. I picked
the Del Taco Burger for what I thought was Wendy's, arguably my favorite fast
food. I thought the Wendy's would be an easier one. Yeah, I
would think so. Sure, Well, you're not able to tell, like
the way you when you're biting into it. We get we got to arrange
this. Yeah, we had to figure out what were how we're going to
do this? Would you add anything to this list? That's a good list.
I mean, I'm just thinking, like this stuff that's in my area.
The stuff though, I would you know, have have enough experience with
to feel like would make sense. Would be Wendy's Jack in the Box,
Burger, King McDonald's in and out. Mhm, there is there's a Carl's
Junior sort of close by, and you can throw it on the list and
we'll see what happens. But I'd never go there, So it's it's Karby
That would be hard. Arby's does not do a burger. Yeah, just
roast beef in there, shout cleanser. Yeah, I think this is burger.
I think I could do better than three, all right, even with
the ten there or with the ten there. I mean, I don't know
what a dairy queen burger tastes like. I would mix up five well in
and out. It's not on this list, but I would mix up five
guys in and out. I think that's that's that would be a weak spot
for me. I don't know what a Wiener Schnitzel burger is. Yeah,
hot dog, hopefully it's just a hot dog. I like hot dogs.
What a moss burger, Yeah, we can give it a shotguns from Japan
important, But a wallburger, what's that burger? May have? I mark
wallwork. I don't know, I don't know. I think I could do
better than three. Probably throw a white castle in there and you'd get it,
yeah, to be disgusting, But I just microwave one and just be
like, oh, you got it. Yuck. That would ruin my taste
buds for all the stuff that I had at first. They're so good.
I get a bag of twenty. I don't like the onions, so it's
like it was the ones that they sell frozen out here, which are the
only ones you can get out here, all have the onions on them already,
and they're just gross. They're gross. They're gross. Twenty burgers so
that's also crazy to me, the part where they're just super tiny, so
you get like twenty of them. Yeah, crave case of chicken rings.
Chicken rings I want with that. Oh they were kind of gross. But
Eats Burgers and its own little fucking couzy, cozy, little little castle.
It's great. The fries are terrible. I don't know if they've changed them
in the last twenty years. I did eat at a proper I was was
back East visiting a friend and we went to a white Castle and that's where
I got chicken rings and tried a bunch of burgers. I thought it was
all terrible. I thought it was all fu terrible, like terrible terrible or
terrible, like why am I eating this? This is actual garbage? Okay,
it was pretty much I think actual Oh okay, all right then now
I'm back on Morne cal from Melbourne Rights and it says, I realize you
probably don't want to turn the podcast into a personal message service for shooting Australians.
That's where you're wrong. Never assume. But this is a quick fashion
note for Max from Sydney. If you're wearing thongs everywhere, you're probably some
sort of clueless Westy who thinks he's cool, but it is oblivious to just
how classless he is. Thongs have a time and place. And you mentioned
Sidney Pie at Bull being stylish and attractive. Way to live up to the
shallow Sydney Sydney stereotype. Man, that is all man bunch of criminals.
Yeah, you can tell that they're all descended from the prison colony because they
are at each other's throats all the time. Man, The real danger,
the real murderous beasts, are the Australians. I think they're only in Sydney
though apparently, yeah, or this canned barrow. This throws the whole thing
off. I don't even know what to think anymore. Mauricio Florida says Hello.
My name is Mauricio, and I'm for Florida, and I've got a
hypothetical scenario that hurts my brain to think about. I'll try to explain it
as simply and quickly as possible. First, the facts. A TV screen
is composed of pixels. Each pixel can display a combination of red, green,
or blue. For the hell of it, will use a ten ey
p TV for the scenario. That is pixels or two million, seventy three,
six hundred pixels. Okay, check, got it. I'll trust your
math on it. Every single image that is displayed or will ever be displayed
on that TV is just a combination of those two million pixels in different RGB
combinations. There is a finite, although incomprehensibly large amount of combinations, and
them should be number of combinations I think these pixels could be in the point
being, it is finite. So if a TV could hypothetically cycle through every
single possible combination of those two million pixels, and combination of RGB within those
pixels. Would you then not hypothetically see every single possible thing that exists or
could exist on that TV screen? Yes, you would see past, present,
and future alien worlds. An image of Hitler wearing a clown knows the
same image of Hitler wearing a clown knows from every single possible angle. The
numbers get insanely large. It can take billions of years for this TV to
cycle through every possible combination, possibly longer than the life of the universe.
But it would eventually show everything, right, I guess yes, Yeah,
you're kind of My math checks out. Well, you're you're kind of setting
this up not to fail, right if you're saying it's ultimately let's showing this.
We have a bunch of TVs that so many, we could have multiple
TVs going at once. Let's just lowder the resolution. We'll go faster.
It's a good callotypac, I'll see the universe in s D. Yeah,
well, you know, I don't know, maybe enhanced SD. Why don't
we look at it in SD and then we see things we like, we
can flag those and go like, we would like to see this in a
higher resolution, thank you, and then use that to inform the algorithm that
doesn't in anyp man and then move that up to four K. How is
somebody just not doing this already? I know somebody probably is. This is
how people predict the stock market, right, Yeah, they'd altern their TVs
on to different channels and then just go random. Yeah, and it's like,
I think that looked like apple stock. That guy looked really happy.
I love it. But we don't know if it took place in the past
of the future. He just had a big goofy mustache, so there's no
way of knowing. You think you would be. Could you get charged with
bootlegging movies? If you bootleg the movie before the movies even concepted or created,
then they're bootlegging you. Huge crime. If I just have all the
cogs, if I have all the frames from everything, and I'm like and
then post them to Twitter, and then you'll get shut down. But I
had it before you even thought of this movie. Take that TV, write
your name on it, dropic mailbox yourself's copyright works. Yeah, Chris and
Florida Right Santa says the rise of the quick Look has gotten a ton of
attention in gaming meta news. There's talk all day about the way these videos
have democratized the game reviews and now publishers react to them, et cetera.
I was curious about where you guys, what you guys think about where the
written review fits in all of this. As someone who usually prefers written content
to videos, I worry that the market for text based criticism is shrinking.
Do you think that's the case. Are things shifting more towards the long form
write ups that Patrick does from time to time? Wait? Think, yeah,
yeah, I think yeah, I think there'll be an outlet for that
stuff. But I think the big box stores will want the video, you
know, sure, Yeah, I think I think. I don't know if
I don't know if it's going away or you're just having more video and more
writing. I don't know. I think you have more video and a little
bit less writing. That's my gut feeling on it. Says that I don't
know that for sure, but well, it depends on what you count is
writing. If you're looking for reviews specifically just a text review, Yeah,
and like, what is your criteria for what is a professional text review?
Are you looking at sites that are on Metacritic or you know, how are
you filtering that list and stuff. If you're just like you know, people
writing about games. There are blogs, like people, people are on Twitter
all the time, like there's constantly someone complaining about something relating to video games.
Sometimes it's even the quality of the video games themselves. Yeah, yeah,
I don't know. Yeah, I don't know this. This is something
i'mind of. It is very like in the moment though, like it is
a lot of at least what I search for with video games. It's like
old stuff and that's what written reviews are great for. Yeah, so I
guess it will be harder ten years from now for people to pull out some
of our opinions on games because a lot of them are minutes of this podcast
where we sort of shrug and look at each other, go yeah, whatever,
and then move on to the next game. It's really insightful. Yeah,
I think there's there's still a place for like a proper written review.
The formality of it, I think says that this is a complete thought about
this game, as opposed to you know, like a quick look or a
video or something like that where it's like, here, we're kind of reacting
to this part of the game. Yeah, sort of an ongoing discussion,
yeah, or you know, on a podcast, like, hey, I
played this over the weekend, and here's what I think about it right now.
But I'm finished it yet, Like you know, these are a little
more ephemeral in nature, and I think that's sort of by design. So
the written review is a little more formalized, Yeah, a little more academic.
There for a reason, and whether that reason is viable anymore, I
think it's the larger thing is like, do people still want that? I
kind of do, but I just kind of like it's weird as a video
guy, but I just like reading stuff, you know, Like I just
like it because you look at video all day. Maybe, like man,
I just want to also, I think that, you know, the different
ways we consume content, like that stuff's changed, Like they're definitely still that
that notion of like someone's on a train, for example, and they want
to read something on their phone, and you could certainly watch videos there too,
but then you're like, I gotta get my headphones out otherwise I'm that
asshole who's like and it's gonna buffer forever singles bad. Yeah, you know,
but usually pull down an article Regardless of that, I can consume them
sailing points faster. Write an article like especially on news sites, right,
this is I just want to read it. Anytime it comes up with the
video, I'm going to another source. That's true. Smilarly similar thing.
This is getting a little off topic, but the similar thing for looking up
either tips for games or just kind of how two's on anything, Like if
the information you're looking for can be summarized in like three sentences, please don't
put it in a YouTube video, especially a YouTube video that displays those three
sentences on screen. But but just don't make me scrub through a five minute
video looking for the information that you can summarize in a very small space,
Like if I like write it out if the headline is on a like dog
explodes in Minnesota, and then I click in it's a video, Like,
no, no, I need a text. I need to find out exactly
what the fuck happened, because you're you're writing your headlines to grab people,
right, It's like get me in there, and like I need to skim
this article to see what I'm getting into real quick. Uh, not a
video now, I hate auto playing videos in that situation too. Yeah,
that's a that's always and adds and everything. I hate everything. I hate
everything. How about that? I just read the comments find out where's the
real story. I just get a newspaper. Yeah, totally see. That's
where the real insight lies. Is a little below the full the vox populi.
Yeah, I need to know what did they think of this? I
didn't like it? Oh weird, weird. Well, that guy's science checks
out more than the actual science. That happen, right, Yeah, who
watches the watchers? The commenters? That's Brian in New York says, I
have a Dark Souls two platform dilemma. I'd prefer to play on PC,
but I'm afraid of missing that early adopter exploration feeling with the delayed release.
Do you think it's worth worth it to dig out my PS three to be
there on day one? What are you guys gonna? Do you guys gonna
We've talked about this a lot. Yeah, I mean day one is day
one, there's no getting around it. Yeah, by the time PC version
comes out. So do we have a copy in here yet if you guys
started messing with it, Yeah, we've got debug versions, but we've played
other stuff, and at this point, retails are supposed to show up any
day. We've talked Kevin about it a good bit today. Yeah, but
we can't talk about this stuff in the on the lobby today. Well yeah
it was Yeah, it was some stuff. It was the same stuff we
played at that event. Yeah, we talked about that in our Character Creator
and it seems pretty nice. So the Uh, it's still unclear to me
that the April twenty fifth date was floating around late last week for the PC
version, which a lot of sites seemed to report as the date, but
then like Namco's Twitter account said, we're not announcing anything at this time.
It's not clear to me if that I think that leaked out of retailers or
something like that. Yeah, yeah, well like Destination PlayStation just happened well
that they wouldn't have a PC date there never mind. But yeah, yeah,
I'm not I'm not sure where that information came from and whether that's hard
you know, if that's firm or whatever, right, But regardless, I
mean, like even a week after that game is out, there's gonna be
all kinds of stuff floating around out there. So I was really solid in
the I have a pre order for the p S three version, like very
much in the camp of like I kind of want to play this along with
the community and see what's going on. But after playing, after seeing the
difference of Lords of Shadow two on the PC versus what it was on the
PS three, that is a significant leap, Like that made the games sim
playing on there's no guarantee that, no, but PC version of Dark Souls
two is gonna be great. You're right, there's no guarantee. But they
they in a very self aware manner. They swore up and down it would
not be a repeat of the situation with the first one. Okay, they
seem very cognizant of the failures of that first PC port, Yeah, which
are huge, Like that's a terrible port. But even those first two games,
Demon Souls and Dark Souls did not play exceptionally well in parts like very
very spotty frame rates and yeah, and some of that stuff we played on
the PS three of Dark Souls two with that defensive ran poorly. So definitely
it shook my faith a little bit of like, maybe I would rather play
this on a PC. I forgot what a PS three game can look like
versus a modern car power cell processor. Yeah, it's easy to develop for
everyone knows those consoles are getting stretched way beyond their limits at this point.
Like there's some beautiful art design and dark Souls too. You're just from even
the early areas that we saw, Like it's gonna look fantastic, hopefully on
a PC running better than looking sharper. But but yeah, like if you
want to be radp somehow, there's like, yeah, we've decided this is
how we got it down. Figure we'd lock it here. We want everyone
to have the same experience. What you guys want to report? Oh,
I don't fine, I don't know how to please you guys. Fine,
whatever, don't play it. I guess no Dark Soul three you motherfucker's Uh
here's another anonymous email. Hey, guys, I want to run this by
Jeff, I know has a dislike of marketers in general. I don't know
that. I said, well, maybe marketing marketers they're just people, monsters
to a job, just doing a job. But let's just say I'm currently
working with a pizza company close to Jeff's heart. It starts with a D
I don't know, on a marketing campaign, and I wondered what you guys
would think you would want to do the budget is two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars with a reach across America. Budget can't allow TV. What would you
try? You had to spend two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to get the
word out about pizza? Yeah, what would I do? And two fifties
not that much when I'm thinking about a big advertising campaign. Yeah, it's
kind of not. That's like display ads on gaming websites. Yeah, for
a little while, like not that's I'll say, let's say I don't understand
money, and okay, yeah, all right, great, would do?
Well? What would I do? What would you What would you do if
you're trying to market pizza. I'd go to countries that have never had pizza,
okay, and say in America this is considered gourmet food. What do
you think? And then feed them and give them a slice of pizza on
like a very presented all nice yeah, get it out of the cardboard box,
put it on a nice plate. Uh and see, oh yeah I
understand why Yeah, no, this is it's just like hundreds of dollars of
plate Like no, it's thousands, like that kind of level of and in
the end like just like just kidding it's four dollars. It's it's only four
dollars unless you want it delivered. It's your weekly income. And then right,
yeah, yeah exactly. We know. I would go to like weird
places that there's no technology, war torn countries in the middle of popping with
pizza and go, we think, but deliver it to the war like in
a car with deliver it to the front. Yeah, let's get out of
the car to get the hell out of there. Uh yeah, I would.
I would. Uh. I would build a pizza launcher, yes,
that launches the pizza out of like a disc launcher and kind of just yeah,
and then I would drive around, would be a college tour and we
would the back of a pickup truck with the pizza launcher just shooting pizzas at
people. Okay, your hands are arranged, like but you're trying to that
that device in American glatty ors shoots tennis balls. Yeah exactly, that heads
up your cons are siren on the car and just getting hit with a pizza.
No, I've got you know, I've got a bullhorn and I'm shouting,
look out, motherfucker's it's pizza. You know. It's like I don't
think that's the noise pizza would make when it could. It could, Yeah,
breaking the Congress and deliver pizza storm, one of those like CNBC ors,
you know, just C span the C span, just time it right,
just shouting nine ELEVENE was inside job. This pizza is delicious, and
then run out. It'll probably cost most of the budget. Yeah, maybe
maybe the jail time, legal fees. You would need a viral marketing firm
that would be willing to do the stretch. Yeah. In that case,
like I have to sneak in as a senator and then rip off my suit
and I'm really a pizza delivery guy. Yeah. No, you know what
I would do. I would bring back the Nooid. I would buy a
hundred copies of Yo Noid off of eBay and then give them away to contest
winners. You have won a classic piece of let's say it was Dominant.
Let's say we're talking about Dominan. I don't really like that one, but
if it were Dominoes, Yeah, I would give out copies of Yo Nooid
and say the pizza is better than this game was. People. I would
bring back the Noid. I would bring back the Noid in some capacity,
including giving out copies of the old Assnoid game. I would, uh go
get the rights from Capcom. What are you gonna do with the rest of
your two? And then on my website's like, let's say I had a
pizza tracker on my website that people had time to kill before pizza was delivered.
One of those skins would be like, here, play Yo Nooid for
the NES while you wait for this pizza. The pizza will be better than
this game. You'd have to get it from Capcom because hey, they made
it, but also they made it as a different game in Japan and reskinned
it with Annoyed for the US. You want only just make a new Annoid
game. I would eventually want to make a new Annoid game. He's saying,
this is the start. Yeah, okay, yeah yeah, phase one
of our rollout, of our Annoyed rollout. Think about Jack in the box
when they brought back Jack. Yeah. Uh, you know, they had
a whole like Jack's Back campaign, this whole huge thing. I bring back
the Nooid and say you need to continue to avoid him, but also he's
an okay guy. Either that or I'd make then Nooids super dark and he's
murdering people for their pizza, you know, one one or the other,
making pizza out of people. Yeah, but that's why you gotta stop him.
Yeah, you gotta avoid him, because he's going to make you into
a pizza I'd paid, So he's going to be driving around your fucking college
campuses, launching pizzas at you out of a fucking pizza gun. I try
and pay somebody like Drew to try and sail across the Atlantic in a boat
made of my pizza. Man, there you go, all right, it's
easy. Yeah, this actually free. All right, Yeah, all right,
now we're just marketing consultants, and now we I think by law you
need to send us seventy five percent of that budget. Yeah, or the
idea, guys, or pizzas for life, one can dream, kitch.
I don't want money, I just any I just wanted free pizza, just
I just I don't even want just open one in my area. Give me
the option. I don't want free pizza for life, because that's a death
sentence. No, I just want anytime. I just punch in this code
and pizza shows up. No tip either, They'll let that that's taken care
of. No, money, I would be okay with would be something nice
about just the pizza gets set down, that guy gets a tip from somewhere,
just not for me. It's it's built into the thing, a great
tip. Yeah, well twenty five, twenty five, it would be well,
yeah, I'm usually ordering a lot of pizza, so yeah, it's
a good tip. Okay, Ben and Toledo. How about if the delivery
guy, one delivery guy gets a tip of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
that's your campaign, Yeah, secret tip. But then if that you
spend all the budget on it, you have no way to tell people that
you did that. You would need a TV ad to say, like we
I didn't think this all the way through. Okay, okay, okay,
all right, all right, didn't say we were good idea guys, Ben
from Toledo rites and it says my PS three has died. It was one
of the originals with the backwards compatibility. After several attempts to fix the console,
I finally called it. However, looking at the future, I'm now
left asking myself do I get another PS three or should I roll into the
new generation with a PS four? Can you help me make a decision A
good question. Here are some bullet points. There are still great games on
the PS three. I would rather play new games on the next generation system.
I have a pretty top notch PC that I prefer over most else.
There can only be one, and his final bullet point is Dark Souls two.
I guess if you don't mind, if you're if you want stuff day
one, that maybe changes things. But you see, if you have the
PC, maybe the PS four is the better. If well, I don't
last thing you want to play on a PS three, I would not buy
another PS three. I would just grit my teeth and wait for the PC
release with it. Yeah. Maybe. Also, I feel like, you
know, like you're if you already have a really built PC, you're kind
of just saying like, I want to play first party game, right,
And I don't know that Sony does not have a ton of PS three first
party stuff game, you know, first first party games coming out. I
came to that realization as I was saying that, yeah, yeah, and
I you know, I don't know, Sony's first party stuff has never been
Yeah, my favorite stuff probably kind of the stuff they make is my favorite
stuff. And I would still say hold off, even even the PS four,
like, yeah, maybe not on know that you necessarily need to run
out and buy a new console if you've got a good PC right now,
right, I would say, find a friend who has a PS three and
borrow it when Dark Souls two comes out, because most of your friends won't
play it because it's Dark Souls too an option. Yeah, I don't know.
That's a tough one. Yeah. I would say the same thing about
an Xbox One as well, so it's not just PS four, get a
wee. You know they're selling like hockeys. Yeah, they're just flying off
the shelves. Yeah, I don't know. I might just kind of wait
off a little bit. Yeah, but whatever, you got the money and
you're like fuck it. Yes, I would probably get a PS four at
that point because it will continue to have games for years and years and years.
Unless you have a ton of PS three games that you think you might
want to play again someday and don't currently have a way to play them.
But you might just wait off until PS three's get really cheap, I don't
know, or for the HD version, come to the pure Yeah. Yeah,
and our last question here, uh, David Wrightsonen says I'm curious.
Even though playing video games for a living sounds like the ultimate job, I
know there's more to it than that. Of course, you must get into
situations occasionally when someone asks you what you do and you don't necessarily want to
tell them, or do you. My question is this, if you're at
a party with your significant other or some classy event and someone asks you what
you do for a living, do you tell them the truth or do you
spin the answer and say something else like I'm a writer. Thanks. Uh.
I feel like I used to yeah, and I used to have to
explain. Yeah, that was And it wasn't like any kind of shame.
It was just like, I don't feel like explaining this weird fucking job anymore.
It's it's so it takes so much expos Yeah, normal people don't have
a frame of reference for what this weird job is. Well, they usually
think you make video games, right, That's pretty much what it. Yeah.
I started saying, we cover the video game industry. Yeah, yeah,
because if they say yeah, if you say video game website, they
think, oh, so like Farmville, yep, that's us. You want
more cows? I can? I can? I can literally grab my phone,
click a button, and you can have a billing. Cows. I
used to say it was like e but like video games, but nobody knows
what that is anymore. So you're like a reality show. Yeah kind of
yeah, kind of a right, kind of like a party drug. Yes,
yeah, we touch everything just quickly though. Yeah, the wall feels
great. That's what's sound baffling. I don't go to I don't meet new
people, so it's not a problem anymore. No, Yeah, problem solved.
Yeah, I just took that, took myself out of the loop.
Yes. Uh. Someone I know started her shorthand for it was she would
say that I'm the Roger Ebert of video games, which I was like,
oh, well thanks, but yeah, I would never say okay, thank
you, which which video games? Yeah, I wouldn't. I would necessarily
spell it out like that. But that was actually a very effective way for
people to go like, oh okay, yeah, or game critic, not
that I'm like reviewing games on a regular basis much these days, but it's
really a shorthand. Yes, it was really affect shorthand. So I guess
go with that. Have someone with you who will say that, because when
you say it you probably look like a well it's you know, I work
for CBS. Maybe you've heard of it. Yeah, oh what do you
what do you do there? I don't really like to talk about it,
but so like a janitor, then big, well, well let's just say
we clean up? Wink? Oh what do you do? That's what I
usually say? Nothing much? What do you do? I sell angel dust?
That's cool? Yeah, how is that? It's blowing up, it's
running, motherfucker, it's picking up dumpsters and throwing them to people. That's
it for emails. That's all we got. So, hey, you know
what's next week? What video games? Yeah? So Dark Souls is out
next week? Also yep, it's like that, and Titan Fall yep,
yep. And The Stick of Truth out today. Yeah, so I think
I think I might play that. Yeah, you should should definitely try it.
Man, if you've been if you've been away from south Park for a
long time, like a long time, Yeah, it's worth check it out
just to see if it draws you back in. Yeah I laughed. Yeah,
okay, it's it's quite funny. And then you know, InTru south
Park Fashion felt a little bad about it, and then it's like you know
what, that's just funny. That's just funny. Right, that's just wrong.
Oh man, this is wrong. That's wrong. That's wrong. I
won't be right. That's wrong. That's part kind of too. You know,
it's funny because it's true. See you next week. Oh wait,
