Yay indie games. Yeah, you love indies. I love indies. I love Oh I got through? No no really, oh no, it says there seems to have been an out. I played the podcast. It seems to have been an error initializing your update, but it let me do the credit card. I'm at the credit card partner. Okay, So for everybody listening, yeah, me too, me too. We are trying to pre order the limited edition O led steam Deck. It went up for pre order, not pre order, just straight up purchase at one pm Eastern, and that's usually when we do our podcast. So we pushed the podcast back to one fifteen just so we could pre order this, and it was all broken, but we got far enough where we were like, let's just start the podcast. Yeah, because what we were doing was refreshing the page at that point. Yeah. I was sitting on the shipping and just and continue, continue to continue, And now I am on the payment. I've needed to the payments. Yeah, it would be better to just go live than sit here for hours, but now you might have to deal with us. Are you using credit card or PayPal? Credit card? Because I'm trying to use PayPal like I always do, and window I know that something. It's not letting me. It's not letting me well, it's not letting me use a credit card either. It's just saying working and I'll expected arras Curt your purchase not being completed, Please wait a few minutes to try again. How about I wait until right now. So this whole episode is probably going to be us half paying attention to the actual podcast, which is great entertainment value for you guys, and then half us trying to pay for our Steam decks. Now, a couple of things to talk about. We have the indie world, Yeah, the big, big on the top on the docket. We got to go through all the games that were announced this week. You have the PlayStation Portal that I spent literally eight hours playing yesterday. I have it in a box still. We also, how much should we talk about the Steam Deck last week? I don't think we did at all. It's a bit of blood. Did we even have it? We didn't have it? I don't think so at that point. No, so we should talk a little bit about that. We also have the Game Awards. I don't know how much we're gonna get to today, but yeah, there's a lot. There's a lot going on. There's a lot to a point where we actually had this is a little bit of a cannon breaking thing. We had another episode ready to go today, a really fun episode that we were really happy with. I was really happy with. I'm sure you were too, and we realized we had so much to talk about. We decided to push that back a week because, yeah, it's a stacked week. Your order cannot be completed because one or more items in your cart is currently out of stock. No shot, my guy. We've been here for time to hear man, I can't even get oh my saying the same thing now out of stock. I've been here refreshing the hecking page for twenty minutes. Zim, what are you gonna do about it? Where'd you go? This is so disappointing. This is so disappointing. Let me try so. If you don't know what the hell we're even talking about. Here's what the steam Deck, here's what the steam Deck Limited looks like. We can't have out of stock. Do you want to explain why we even want it? Considering we haven't? It is cool? So I want to get a second one because the one that I have currently is going to be sitting on the wall behind me next to the LED Nintendo switch, just burning in doing a test on how much burning it could take. But the limitedation one's really cool and I wanted it, and now it's out of stock. Yeah, it says out of stock? Are usual ugguring my piss right now? Very I'm very mad because we were there. We were there, We've been starting there together for over half an hour, and now we were here at the launch. We clicked on the button immediately as it went live, and we couldn't get through the payment and when we finally did, it says it's out of stock. God, I feel like this is always the way these days, and like how many are usually? You know, usually we're pretty good at getting in on these things, but this one it was too limited. It was too limited. Are the other ones in stock? Yeah? Everything else seems to be in stock? You know that it all went to bart Maybe I guess I got a test image retention on an LCD instead of burning on no LED. God, damn dude, I'm looking at Twitter now. Is everybody all upset? I mean most people? We were looking at Twitter while we were trying to pay, and no one could buy anything. Limited edition or regular. So most people were just trying to get a regular, and now people are like, yeah, I got my regular. This one actually says finally got steamed like limited edition after twenty minutes of refreshing the page. So oh, I was going to share the tweet. This This guy's tweet straight up has his whole address in it. He's from Wisconsin. Baby, that's no Twitter when your address doesn't matter. You know what's funny? Actually, side tangent, Kim and I went back and watched a couple of my Game Quest episodes just to see, just to see, just to a nostalgic trip. The first episode of my show, I just filmed the whole ass front of my house, like I'm just at the front of my house, front door number and everything. I was like, man, different times, huh oh my god, back when it didn't matter. All right, well you were, yeah, you already explained that we were going to do a uh in studio episode today. Yeah, so let's cut. Let's cut to them. You remember skill share, Yes I do, and we do it all the time. Do it all the time I was learning the home go on skill share No way, yes way, saw knees Japanese. Okay, hi ool, I got the muss. I said nothing, you didn't say I panicked and said nothing. You know skill share for classes and photography, film and video editing, and nihongo and illustration. They got that one too, But did you know skill share has hundreds of career focused classes too. We use them for our career. We have a career in making videos. Hi hi, Jimmy, marste both this Emama right now, right now, we use Jordie's class all the time. That's the guy we talk about all the time is Jordie because he does a lot of visual effects and some just regular light video editing stuff. Bingle over there wants to learn video editing. He told me, Wow, have you heard about Jordi vander Putz classes? Just now? I did. Wow. There you go. You learn it in the description down below. I will also, I have a friend, a Tief who has a class on how to make coffee. About him you have because I've talked to you about this before. He has a class on how to make coffee at home with a b Revel machine. He like expressed me, I don't know, what do you mean? You don't know? I don't know him that much. Man, just say you like me more? I like coffee. Watch this class because if you barely you know what, I don't want to give you the satisfaction. It's not satisfaction, it's just a basic coming courtesy. Would listen? Being your own boss comes with hurdles to navigate. Well, if with skill share in class library, you can learn freelance tips, start a new side project. I'm going to start a side project right after this to attract the right clients and or start a business. Oh god, even if you're not ready to start a YouTube channel. Would skill share believes that no goal is small. Maybe you want to learn productivity tips to power more me time. I'd love some me time right now. Maybe the goal is to start building a personal brand style. Whatever your career goals are, skill shares class to help you along the way. Any classes on how to make friends, Yeah, probably should take them. Imagine being a coach on teaching other people how to make friends. It sounds like a miserable life. Well they probably go good at it because they have a lot of friends. Everybody's ears perkoff. Please, as a nontendor listener, we challenge you to redefine work or achieve a new goal by joining Skillshare. I challenge you to join skill Share. The first five hundred people to use the link in the description will get a one month free trial, and we promise this time we will have the link there code friendship. No, there is no code, actually just a link. Thank you skill Share, gay Hi, It's just me would get this credit card. I kept hitting the button to check out, even though it was telling me that it was out of stock, and eventually it just started giving me different errors. Now it's an honest error has occurred. Your purchase cannot be completed. Please wait a few minutes. Yeah, it looks like I want to try my credit card, but I've lost my wallet today and it's not letting me do PayPal. You got a lot of problems. A Cloud nine in the chat says that they got it. It came back in stock, so I'm hoping that'll happen. I'm gonna sit here and just keep it in content. I feel like if I had my credit card with me right now, I would be able to buy it, because I've had this happen before where PayPal just hasn't worked. I mean, I have my credit card, I actually don't have my credit card. It's just it's just in Steam. It looks like you've attempted a lot of purchases in the past few hours. I guess I gotta wait. I guess I gotta wait like two minutes. Yeah, I just got the same thing. Okay, so now I'm getting the pouch. Yeah, I'm gonna wait like a minute, give it a minute. This is good podcast material. I never lose my wallet. Never, never lose my wallet. I love the chat. Said it worked. I was. I went upstairs during that, and Kim is so deaf. I don't know where she is in the house. I was screaming at her because I have to, because she won't hear me otherwise. Nothing. It's like she's not even in the house, Mine says working. Now, I'm gonna message her and ask for her card. You guys buying the Steam window, I agree. Thank you for your purchase. I hate everything. Give me my credit card. Thank you for your purchase. Thanks man, I don't understand my guy. Thank you for your purchase. Zim, we did it? Come here? Okay, Kim's coming, Kim's coming, Kim's coming, Okay, all right, I gotta I got a tweet that I did it. This is the riveting Nontendo podcast. Stuff that you wanted im I did it. I'm not even gonna say what I did. I'm just gonna tweet I did it, and a picture of the purchase page with my address and credit card number in it. Oh yeah, like that one guy from Wisconsin. Get me out of here. Okay, So what should we talk about talking about stuff? What do you want to talk about the indie world or what you want me to rant about? The steam Deck O a lady for a few minutes. I posted a video today on it, spent a lot of time with it. Uh, it's amazing. This thing. We've been spending a couple like half an hour trying to get. Uh, it's incredible. It's this, It's the It's it's the same steam Deck with an OLED screen, except it's got so much more shit packed into it that I didn't expect that makes it way better. For example, it's a lot cooler and it runs way way quieter than the original. What a rollercoaster? I know, dude, says I've been trying too many times. Give it like thirty seconds and then hit the button again, it says in stock for me, but I got the legion. Go all right, we'll get this and then give it a w All right, bring up the direct we'll go through. Just keep hitting continue. All right, here you go, uh bing. This is an article from Polygon nintended leading World all the news trailerad announcements from the Indie World Direct. Wow. First get I don't know if this is in. I don't think it is. Did you run it in? Yeah? I got it just off the rip. It was not a super exciting indie world I feel like I have to preface this with the same thing every time, But the Indie Worlds aren't like a catered direct experience that Nintendo saves up for a few months to impress people and impress stockholders. Indie Worlds are literally just a showcase of what indies are happening right now. And sometimes you get a bunch of bangers, and sometimes you get a bunch of cute little art projects. And this one was very much cute art projects, and it kind of felt very all in the same genre of cute art projects. So if you like this kind of stuff, it was probably the best ever for you. But it's very niche, and I think the only one that stood out was this one, which is why it's first on this doc. I'm sure. Yeah, Out of Worlds, Out of wild Sorry, this was supposed to be. I guess there's always like one big deal game, and I think this was the one big deal game because this, yeah, this has come. What is this even because this has been out? Has it not? I thought that too. My chat actually couldn't give me a straight answer on it. I don't think so. I think it is finally launching on Switch and we might look really dumb here if I'm wrong, But yeah, I don't think Out of Wilds has landed on Switch. It's one of those games that have been talked about and hyped up for coming to Switch for as long as Metroid Prime for it feels like and this is like a big archaeologist addition coming to Switch. I have never played it. I've just been excited to try it. It gives me No Man's Sky vibes. But everyone in my chat kept telling me it couldn't be less like that. This came out around the same time as The Outer Worlds, which was incredibly confusing, and that came to Switch. So maybe that's why we're all confused. Out of wild for Switch. Let me see here. Yeah, it's not out yet. It is coming December seventh. It was Polygon's Game of the Year in twenty nineteen. Must have been a slow year. No, I think it is. I think it's one of those games that's more fun to play than it might look. Okay, but I think it looks fun honestly. Oh hold on, he's about to bust hold on your purchase? Could not your credit card has been declined by a credit card don't company. Oh no, no, I must have typed something wrong and Kim literally just left the house. So I think I'm screwed. I really don't know what to do. Gotta try PayPal. I keep trying PayPal, My guy, I just want to know where my wallet is. I would I would die to know where my wallet is. Well, I can't even focus on the podcast. I can't, dude, I can't. Don't get you at then go find me. I don't know where it is, my god, Sure you could find I don't know where my phone is. I can, but I would literally just be leaving the podcast. The payment process has reported an authorization failure when I try using PayPal. That's what it says. Make sure. Uh, make sure Kip's card doesn't get locked up. She left the house. It's got two two damn m m. Well the one I tried using was a shared card God Jab Javis flips with five dollars, thank you so much, got through and bought mine. Keep trying, would use your stored debit card. Wait two minutes before clicking continue again. That worked for me. Yeah, I waited like a like a hot minute. I'm gonna keep reading. Uh, we got here, Shante, which is I think the only game I'm interested in. No, there's one more that I'm interested in. This was the game Boy Advance game that never came out. Shanta Advance Risky Revolution, the previously unfinished sequel to Game Boy Colored Platforms Chante, is coming to an Antenna Switch after a twenty year wait. Shanti Advance Risky Revolution is coming to Switch in twenty twenty four. As the hair Whipping half Genie Shante. Players will spin the game, spin the game world, explore layered levels, and dance to transform into different creatures. Shante Advanced Risky Revision will also include a new four player battle mode for a local multiplayer That's interesting because it's a game Boy advance game. This I'm pretty sure Modernitch's Gamer worked on. They do a lot of phenomenal work with because they have to emulate these, they have to port them, and it's basically just like an emulation container that runs the game. So they do a lot of good work, and it'd be interesting to see how well this twenty year old game Boy advanced game that no one's ever played runs on the Nintendo Switch. Welcome backward. I'm so sorry to all the podcasts listeners. This is one of the most frustrating things. I'm losing my mind. I can focus. I found my wallet. I forgot that. Yesterday my Facebook was hacked again again. I had to give them my credit card to get back in. That's that's weird. No, that's not what happened. I had to upload my driver's license to prove that it was me. Okay, that makes sense that I've seen before. And so my wallet was by my other computer, which is never there. But I didn't want to use this computer in case for some reason this one was being screen capped or something, because I don't know why I keep getting hacked. Oh, I just friggin I just sent it, dude, I'm I I had my all of my important information dangerously close to being broadcasted to the Nontendo podcast. Just now, why because like I so like the way these like windows are. It's like, this is just my whole desk cup. It's out of stock again. I finally found my cod and it's out of stock again. Don't give up. Just wait, wait, wait a minute, want it over. I want it over so I can podcast. Wait a minute or two, give it, give it another click. That game looks interesting. That core Keeper one core Keeper, the beloved mining sandbox adventure core Keeper is digging towards the Tento Switch release and so some summer Summer twenty twenty four, currently in early access on Steam core Keeper. Let's us, let's let's up to eight players explore procidially generated biomes and whatever the fuck here it is. Here's his core Keeper. Wow, it looks interesting. I mean, all these games look like Startdoo Valley now, but this looks This looks like Starry Valley. The only difference is, uh, there are lighting effects because you're in a cave. Out of stock again. I'm losing my mind, dude. I've been trying to get this for forty minutes. If it is any consolation, extreme rate makes great shells. No, no stop good Next game, Next game on your tail. This looks like a game that would go in the indie world. Thick though. Oh I didn't even realize. Dude, wait till she starts trotting trotten. This game is made whoa particular audience? Whoa uh huh? We found we found the game. Wow, this is the d V and art kids grew up. That's what this game is. They grew up and now they have money to start a game studio. Yeah. I mean some of the characters are pretty pretty shamelessly know what they're doing here where it's a furry game, guys back in stocks as Jeff flip. Now this credit card is declined. What is happening? We'll find it out. What doesn't have a lot of money? I'm down on my last credit card in the family narrative life sim on your Tail sends players. I don't care. It's a narrative life sim. You guys get the idea. If you like furries, you might like it. Backpack hero. I watched a Jackson play this the other day. I guess he was interested in it. Uh, deck building roguelike dungeon crawler. Backpack Hero gets its name from its organization mechanics. What you fit into your backpack and how you arrange your items are key to survival in its own turn based battles. It's basically the organization from Resident Evil four, but a game as one of it. As one of five Backpack Heroes, you'll loot dungeons and rebuild your hometown of Haversack Hill to become a local hero. Currently available on Steam Early Access. I watched Jackson players didn't see him going through his backpack once. So I got it. I got it. I got it. I got it, dude, my blood bread. I'm so stressed. It is one. It took forty five minutes by guy. I hope I bought the right one. I don't even know what I bought. It was it six hundred and eighty dollars six seventy nine. I don't even know anymore. Okay, yeah, I definitely got the right one. All right, let's look at this indie world direct. Well do you care about Backpack Hero. I don't know, man, it's looking a little it's looking a little turn based. Oh yeah, I don't know. I mean that could be one of those games that's like deceptively fun, but it seems like the actual gameplay is inventory management, Like you manage your backpack, that is the game, and then depending how you manage it, it like auto scrolls below you. I'm I don't know, maybe it's sometimes I do get surprised by games like that and I'm like, oh, wow, this actually is fun, But it's hard to imagine a world where I'm enjoying inventory management. Good news, though, the next game is the best game of the entire direct Blade Chimera. Here it is develop a team Ladybug, known for sitescoring action fair like Record of Lotus, War deadlit In Wonder Labyrinth. That's one game. I agree with you that it's the best looking game as far as like what we might actually enjoy. I love the pixel a lot in the in the style and the stuff about it, but it does also look very basic, like rudimentary, kind of not as fleshed out as some other games in this style. That was cool. The dragon hit him and he hit the car and the car moved. Yeah, that's sick. That is cool. That is cool. It's a two D side scroller that looks a lot like the PlayStation one Castlevania, and it's reminding me a little bit of this INTI creates game Dragon something. I think that trailer was different to the one in the direct. Oh, unless I wasn't paying attention, there was a couple of things in that that actually did look cool. I remember not being too impressed in the direct beyond the art style. I'm interested. This looks right a Malley. It looks like a like a modern Yeah. That that was the only game in the direct that I thought really looked like a fun, modern apocalypse sci fi Castlevania. I'm down for that. Mm hmmm, I agree. I agree, And you hit the bad guys and the little wife points come up just like they do in Castlevania. It's pretty cool. Ah. That comes out Spring twenty twenty four, so it'll be a while. Our podcast YouTube podcast account does not have premium and on the main homepage the first ad it takes up a whole video slot and it says meet single women inside for serious relationships ads are they pushing on YouTube? Now? Go go single women ads? I just need more, we need more of them. We got too many men watching this podcast, male demographics too high. I don't know what you mean. By that Highland song. Wow. Here it is get cozy with a Highland song. A narrative two point five deep platformer. Oh it's a platformer I'm involved. Set in the Scottish Highlands where players will want to I think. I think the word platform is used very loosely here. Yeah. This looks like you just kind of go right and that's the game. Mm hmm, like a new Super Mario get the hell out of here it. I love the odds style. It's very charming, and I love what the narrative may be, but I don't know how much fun it'll be. Be This looks like a pretty game, and that's why you're playing it because it's pretty. Yeah, and hopefully because of a nice narrative, probably be a little bit of a tear jerker. That's skipping of the rock looked really cool. I'm not gonna play it. How This turn based tactical folk tale storytelling. The story tells the unique story of a plague spread by sound and the deaf profit player character tasked with finding the Curey isn't that the plot of Metal Gear Solid five? I was gonna say, isn't that the plot of that movie with John Krasinski silent place whatever. So in that they speak and then the monsters hear them, right, well, yeah, they have to like like whisper and even then they'll if that they can hear in metal gear. They literally if you speak a certain language, the parasites will like take over and like and like spread to other people. Yeah, so they have to they end up speaking. They end up like either not talking or speaking different language. I don't know anyway. Uh, here's the game. Wow cool odd style is very pretty. Looks a little boring to me, Yeah, not very interesting. Moonstone Island. This deck building? How many? How many hold on deck? I feel like that there's only been two deck buildings on this page. I feel like I've seen deck building more a lot here. It's a popular genre, but it seems to be becoming more popular within the indie space. For sure. You almost had to build your own deck up because you didn't get a limited edition. The deck Building a Life sim lets players explore one hundred procedurally generated islands to collect over sixty very adorable spirits. Craft items tend to farms, okay, do a bunch of Stardar valley like stuff, but also card based fighting yeah, this one. You know, I like it. I do like it. It's not one of the games that I'm looking at and I'm like any other day i'd say, yes, I have to play that, but I'll give it a shot, and I think it's a standout in the indie world as far as this indie world. Nectar in the Chad says, Moonstone is one of the best game you need to play it. Does this that mean it's already out? Something? Says Spring twenty twenty four? Moonstone? It's there a Steam? Is there a original Moonstone? Is this a sequel? It's on Steam. It's been on Steam since September twenty so not too long, and it has very positive reviews and it's nine out of ten on Steam, so yeah, it must be very good. Okay, it looks charming. I see nothing wrong with it. This whole podcast is an ad for the Steam deck, because if you had a Steam deck, you could probably play all of these games right now. You don't have to wait till Spring four. Maybe I'll get this on my Steam deck and stop playing it already late to the VID. But were they able to get the limited edition? OLEDs Wait a second, it says we'll launch on switch is a timed console exclusive. That's just a lie because you could get it on Steam Deck. H I know what it actually means. It means it's not on PlayStation or Xbox. Oh console exclusive. Yeah that's but I mean, I feel like that doesn't mean anything anymore because the Steam Deck is a console. That's what I'm saying. It's kind of a lie because I could get this on my steam Deck right now. Yeah, I could also get it on my Legion go on my rug Ally those are ps true, and Steve dak Guy would argue is a console. And also I know, I know what they actually mean, but it is. It is funny that uh it's not. It's not really exclusive to that handheld experience anymore. Death Trick Double Blind, Oh boy, howdy if you wanted more card games? Yeah I do. Described as a non linear detective visual novel, Death Trick Double Blind has players investigating the disappearance of Haiti, a magician employed by a traveling circus. Players will conduct that investigation. Has two characters, one a fellow magician and the other an amnisiac private eye am an amnesia amnies. I can't see what you're reading go to college, guys, show me the word I can't see amba. Yeah, and then but it also doesn't help. They wrote the other a n amnesia. Oh that's hot. So it just it just what I thought they could have wrote it. The other a private eye with amnesia. Yeah, that's what that would have flown right through that trick. Double Blind will come to Nintendo Switch in twenty twenty four, but players can get a taste of it probably if I had to guess on Steam, but also a free demo on the Nintendo E Shop today. Let's go right now. I can't wait to not what's next. The Star named EOS. EOS like no canon cameras. As day, players will step into a hand drawn panoramic. It's not happening today world in The Star named Eos a first person storytelling puzzle adventure game that explores photography and the way we can capture the leading moments. This is the game I used for the thumbnail, because there's a shot. This is it. It's just a sandwich. Yeah, clicking her way through a sandwich, Pokemon scarlet and violet vibes with the JPEG sandwich. There, you know, this is what I meant earlier when I said, these games are very artsy and very if you're here for the art style, this is a great direct for you. I'm sure this looks pretty, but the rest of the game didn't look like that. I'm sure it's good if you like point and click, miss style and miss style game. As someone in my chat when I was watching that said, I thought you liked point and clicks, when I was like, that might not be for me. I like point and clicks where it's cartoony and I play as a character and I see the character, and I move the character around the screen. I get attached to the story. The first person ones like that. I don't know, there's something missing, there's something I don't feel a to it that makes sense, that's it. They just they just lumped in everything else. So actually bring up a trailer of Gecko Gods, because Gecko Gods was my favorite looking game in the whole thing, and it was thrown into this is a real at the end, here's our PlayStation demo for it. Yeah. I jumped in during the reel at the end and I was like, not impressed with the this this indeed direct. Yeah, it does look interesting, though I don't know why just wait. You play as a little Get Go and you do platforming. It kind of reminds me of Snake Pass. I was gonna say Snake Pass. Uh huh. I don't know. I just like it. It's cute you plays a little Get Go or it might be one of them things that gets old pretty quickly, but I don't know. Look at it. It's cute. I like it. I was. It's like an old GAMECU platformer. Yeah. I was a little bummed it was just in a sizzle real because I feel like it was a standout and wasn't just another you know, autistic cartoony hand drawing style game. It was actually something unique. No, this looks cool. Yeah, I like I like this. Also a Planet of Lana. Have you seen that one? I mean I watched it, but we can't. We might have played this at a convention or something. This is pretty good. It looks like Limbo if Limbo was bright and in the daytime. Oh oh yeah, okay, I see that. It's it's cool this. I've never seen this trailer before. I played a little bit of it at a convention and it's pretty cool. So now it's finally coming out to the switch but it's been on Steam forever. Yeah, this trailer is from two days ago on PlayStation m I must have timed it with the indie world. Someone in chat keeps spamming check out Nine Souls. Do you want to humor them? Uh? Is that part of this? It's not on the like at all. I don't know. Apparently I might just be a game. He wants us to check out Nine Souls game. I think it's just a game that they want. The other random games Chat wants us to check out wha wait here. The other big deal, I guess, is that Braid is getting an anniversary collection on the Switch. Braid the game from like twenty years ago. Braid is one of the original indie games that really blew up, that blew up the indie scene. Yeah, it blew up Xbox Live Arcade. It was part of the indie game the movie movie. So this looks this is nine Sols. This looks sick. That's it. Well, a little off topic, but yeah, it does look pretty good. There's a demo bring that to Switch? Where was that in the indie world? I'm hitting download? Can I hit down without showing my credit card information? Oh, it's gonna open up Steam go away, it's going to cause a whole kerfuffle. Marshmallow wants us to check out Spider Man two. You bring that up, you can try it out in your PlayStation portal. Tell me that. Oh yes, okay, So I have the PlayStation portal, a device diversive console that a lot of people are calling pointless and I divisive. I does it diversive? Yeah, I don't know what I think you like? Said a mixture of stuff, like two words. It's late, it's early. Uh that a lot of people are saying is pointless. A lot of other people are saying that it's cool. Yeah, I still have to fight you on that one. I have a lot of mixed things to say. But I do like the way it looks. I don't know, I don't know what I know that it's I don't know why. I don't know why you hate it so much and why I love it so much. But I do think really, I already don't like the PlayStation five design. So now you're just taking it and on abashedly, just smashing it onto a screen. That's kind of why I like it. I'm not gonna lie a nice big screen the bezel's not too big, and I just have a big old PlayStation five controller on either side of it to help prop my screen up. I don't really know what else. Anything else they add is fluff. I mean, what else would they add add? No, they would just the backbone controller, got it right, The backbone controller is fine. I don't I honestly don't get it. It is a slim screen with the controller either side. You can't take anything away, and you can't add anything. You can change the design of the of the sides. How ugly the just the two taps of the controller is sticking out. You didn't even try to make a handheld. You took the controller that exists already and you and put it on a freaking screen. What you're saying? I think the thing that I like about it is that they just gave me the PlayStation five controller because it it then feels like, no matter if I'm playing on my TV or on my handheld, I'm holding a PS five controller. We could argue about whether or not the PS five controller sucks, but I kind of like it, so I'm kind of okay with it as far as how it actually performs. I mean, I'll try turning it on right now and see if it will even automatically sync to my PlayStation and turn my PlayStation on. It's actually not even turning on, so I'm sure it was fully charged. Interesting. So I've had a lot of experience with remote play on other devices, so I'm very curious to see if this improves the experience at all, and from what I've been seeing, it does not. But if that connects directly right now, that turns on, it turns on your PlayStation, that is a good sign. It has to for to be a valid product. Otherwise, if I wasn't at home, how am I going to get this thing to work? That's the thing with remote play right now. Very frequently I have to go to the PlayStation and do some bullshit. I do think it one time. What was that that was? Did I see our show notes first? That was the show notes? I do think for one time it, Uh, it did connect to my PlayStation and to my PlayStation on. I don't know if it was in sleep mode. Right now it is off, and it is off off completely, not not sleeping completely. Oh, then it's not unconnect then that's the end of it. But you turned it off, you're supposed to leave it asleep when when you want to use your portal. All right, let me try putting it to sleep and we'll see what happens. See an Xbox defaults to going to sleep, but it's power efficient enough where that doesn't really matter too much. I'm telling my PlayStation on right now, so we'll see what happens. But yeah, I've got to fight you a little bit on what you said, but also agree with you completely. I have tried things like the backbone, and even at its best and the thing that you had on your phone when you brought it to the studio, even at its best, I felt like there was a lot of bit crush and there were lag skips. I never felt like with PlayStation remote play I've ever had a good experience, and I don't want to throw them under the bus, but this goes for everything. My vicher glasses they have a neck band and you can connect Xbox and PlayStation to it, and even that, for example, well I thought it was unplayable with PlayStation. Xbox was a lot better. I've never had a good experience with PlayStation streaming to the console. This when it works, when I'm down here in my basement where the PlayStation is and where the router is. It's almost perfect. I have almost no issues. I was playing Final Fantasy last night and recording footage, and I have a twenty five minute file on my camera of me playing this thing without a single skin and resolution quality that looked almost one for one with my TV. Crazy good. But just a couple hours before that, I was sat here in the exact same spot, playing the exact same game, and I couldn't get it to connect smoothly, and it kept disconnecting. It kept stuttering and skipping constantly, so I reset my WiFi and then that cleaned it up. But an hour before that, a playing God a War. It was absolutely perfect with no issues. So I don't and I tried saying this to you last night. I don't know if this thing overloaded my WiFi, if it caused my WiFi to get weird, But at some point in the day, after playing this thing for a while, my Netflix went down, all of my Internet went down, and I had to reset it. But I've also had it just working fine for a while and then stutter. I told you, I tried taking it upstairs, which is two floors away from my router. So I was probably getting about one or two bars on this thing, and it was pretty unplayable. Just it was kind of working, but then it would skip and I'd get an audio skip or I'd get a visual skip, and it was just enough to make it kind of annoying. And sorry, I'm ranting a lot. I tried to uh attach it to my phone hotspot, my iPhone upstairs, and I had full reception, full bars, and it wouldn't even connect to the PlayStation up there. So I don't know what that was about. It's just gonna be inconsistent. It's also not connecting right now, and the PlayStation is on in the in the ope. You just had to be mean to it. No, it said it. It said it can't. My PlayStation is on at the welcome back to PlayStation Who's using this controller screen and it looks it just tried to do it again and failed again. So I'll push it past that screen and I'll take it to the homemade. This all seems to track. This all seems consistent to what I was expecting. It's gonna be inconsistent because it's Wi Fi streaming and the way that their remote play has been it's been incredibly inconsistent. I have had very good experiences. Oh you got, let me put my PlayStation in the rest and see if I can tone it on. So that's the thing is that like in my experience, you'll be able to connect to it if it goes to sleep, You'll be able to connect and do that for like a day or two. And then like if you leave it asleep for like a couple of days and then try to connect, it might just straight up not work. I went into rest mode. We'll let it go to rest and then I'll try again. So I've been using remote play on other stuff, and I have had it be near perfect laying and playing Spider Man. I've also had it be just unusable laying bed playing Spider Man on a bunch of different devices. My Android phone that I was using, I'm pretty sure as Wi Fi six e, so it's incredibly fast. I don't think the portal has Wi Fi six e. I'm trying to look at what type of Wi Fi it has. I don't think it's the fastest available right now. There's if we can go into a different conversation and I'll circle back around. There is a lot about this handheld that does feel cheap, that does feel like the two hundreds of price tag they tried to hit. And other than I guess how it plays games, which sometimes is a hit or miss. The speakers number one the most cheapest and tenious sounding speakers that I've ever heard on a what I would consider a quality handheld. Just connect to your Bluetooth headphones. Yeah about that, it doesn't have Bluetooth what mm hmmm. So last night I was just like the old school days of walking around high school with my discman. I plugged in my my headset into the audio jack in the back here, and I'll say that, yeah, great audio at that point, because I got a really nice headset. The thing that was really frustrating is the audio skips. I told you about this, yep. But even even when it's running really well, sometimes you'll get like just a little bit of a skip, just a little bit of like even like a momentary skip that's almost unnoticeable in video, almost like hey did it just skip? But the place you notice it the audio, because the audio will always do that little like audio distortion and crashes and pops. It really irritating, so irritating, especially if you're in like a really hard action scene and like the bases up, the sound is up, everything's flowing, and there's just a moment where it all cuts out to go and then keeps going. It's very irritating, and even happening every like four or five minutes was enough for me to like, I'm constantly on edge. I'm constantly like please don't, please don't, please don't. So the audio skips are really annoying. But yeah, going back to the initial thing, it has really bad on board audio. If you turn it all the way up, it sounds really bad. There's no base to it at all. Just buy the earbuds that they sell. All right, it's been unrest I would do that, Bobby, except they're not out yet. Also, I don't they are two hundred dollars. Oh my god that they plays two hundred dollars. PlayStation has a big issue with audio right now with it's it's uh, it's side hardware because sorry, I'm they hate Bluetooth. They don't. My mind's in two different places. The VR is what I was going to go for because it doesn't come with on board audio at all like the Quest and other devices do. And then the little earbuds they give you are terrible quality, Like they sound as bad as these speakers, but they're directly in your ears, so you have to find other workarounds, like and it's a weird headset, so you can't just put over your headphones on top of it. You have to get like ones that will fit, ones that will work. So in rest mode, it did turn on my PlayStation. Yeah, it's a whole something. It's supposed to do that. Yeah, I know, I know. I was just I just didn't know if when it was off it would turn it on. No, it'd only do it in rest. Okay, what's cool. I mean, that's cool. We're just testing things out, we're trying. So that's the whole point. You're supposed to do in rest four hours. The crackling and stuff is something I've experienced with remotely on other devices, and it happens very randomly, and you never know when it's going to happen, but when it happens once, it's gonna happen your whole play session. It's super annoying. Someone in chat said, so would what are you ready out of ten? It is so so hard to say because it's so mixed in performance. At times, when it's working, it is the best streaming I've seen from PlayStation. The quality is nuts in the video and fidelity considering it streaming, there is zero audio lag. I did a comparison last night on Twitter and it was nuts. The comparison lag was like not even there, Like I could hold this and play on my actual TV. So I gotta say that is circumstantial because it's what I'm saying. So when it works, it's incredible and I can't recommend it enough. But when it doesn't work, it is absolutely unplayable, and it cannot work in the same parameters as when it does work, So that makes it too It's too volatile, you know. I was saying abob last night. It's cool when it works, but if I don't know if it's going to work, I'm not gonna bother trying. I'm just gonna play another way. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty sorry. That's broken. That's that's not how like my hope was they would release this thing and have all all the remote play stuff ironed out, and it doesn't look like they did that. It looks like the same experience that we've had with their version of remote play. I don't. The thing is, though, I don't know. I don't mean, maybe I'm naive. I don't know if you can iron and out because it's all dependent on your own personal Wi Fi. If I started downloading something on Steam right now, or uploading a video for my editor, that's going to start tanking my WiFi experience and my streaming experience. I've noticed that, by the way, this is working really well right now, but it's freshly turned on. I've noticed that if I'm downloading an update on the PlayStation, like I tried putting in God of War and I didn't realize I didn't have it installed, so we had to re download it. And I was like, oh, wow, that's downloading, I'll jump into a different game, and yeah, the game ran horribly because the PlayStation was downloading something. Also, the PlayStation has to be etherneted. If you don't have an Ethernet in your PlayStation and you're running both there and your PlayStation on Wi Fi, you're way more likely to have issues. I don't know. I don't know. Again, at its best, it's fantastic. At its worst, it's unplayable. So how do you recommend it? Yeah, no, I would never I would recommend it, but again, I've had remote play experiences that are better than PlayStation is remote play, Like there's there's things you can do to mitigate the issues that you're going to have. Like I'm hearing that this doesn't even try to to uh down res things like it just tries to give you the full oh fidelity to you. Yeah, but I also send you but your theory was kind of proven by some other people. Okay, okay, well yeah, bring that up if you can. If you sent me something. I had a theory I sent a bubb last night and that was that I don't I think. I think it doesn't try to down res at all. It tries to constantly keep the full resolution and full fidelity quality that it possibly can, which means if you've ever watched a YouTube video, if you try watching it in TENADP and you force it to watch in TENADP but you don't have good connection, it'll just keep skipping and buffering. But if you let it auto, it'll dip down to like seven to twenty P for ADP, but it'll keep a constant connection. It feels like the portal refuses to ever dip down resolution and take a hit in that quality so it'll keep the full resolution and just skip skip and buffer and lag and all of that just so it stays looking pretty. That's insane. That's an insane blunder, you know' that is Yeah. So this is Timo Schmidt. It says I maybe discovered the biggest issue of the places in Portal. While the PlayStation rather remote play app and Chiaki, which is a third party remote play app, properly adjust the PlayStation five's resolution and refrustrate upon connection, PS Portal does not. It streams the four K up to a hundred and twenty hurt output, resulting in unnecessary jitter and compression. And interesting because somebody in my in my I think his name, I think it was Medallion if I'm remember incorrectly in my Twitter replies when I what I did God of Wall and it was running great. Then I did Final Fantasy and it was running terribly. They replied, maybe it's Final Fantasy. Try a different game, and I was like, that's kind of a silly thing to write, because it doesn't matter what game I'm playing. I'm streaming it to the device. It doesn't change anything. The PlayStation is running it. Not this, but if the game itself, I guess, is putting out a higher quality resolution on the PlayStation, and this thing is refusing to do any other resolution than the full maybe it was struggling to do. So here's your test from when you're using your PlayStation portal. Go into the PlayStation settings and lower the resolution and frame rate, like drop it all the way down and see like, especially if you're having a bad can if you're experiencing something shitty, or maybe just go upstairs and try it up there, but drop the resolution and frame rate and see if it gets better on the actual PlayStation. Yeah, because it's forcing an output to be lower. That's a good idea. Yeah. The first thing I did on the on the Homo said Q on the portal was I looked for a setting to see if there was anything that was that would help the resolution because I realized it was only doing the full resolution. It's insane that they didn't think about this, Like you have a four K one hundred and twenty HERT console. It's the whole big deal about the console, and you're gonna make this thing and you're not even gonna have it, like just the output it's a ten eightp sixty screen. That's the cap. That's the most you should want to put out on this thing. Yeah, it's a little wild. So like the way the portal works is it's just a video that's playing and your inputs are being sent to the PlayStation. That's it. So if they're giving you a video that is more information than you need, it's gonna make the lag more and it's gonna make your experience worse. Why would they do that the third party and CHIACKI figured it out. Why does a multi billion dollar corporation figured it out? Because like, yeah, I don't want the resolution to go down. And I also I hate the look of bit Crush and it reminds me that I'm playing a streaming game. And there were legitimately moments yesterday like I was playing Shefu or Seafo down here and I forgot I was streaming the game. I kind of got carried away and I was like, oh, yeah, I'm streaming this. This is sick. So I hate when I get that bit crush because it's such a reminder that I am streaming it because it looks like a lower res YouTube video. But if the I was upstairs playing and I was just begging it to bit crush. I was like, please just down resolution yourself and stop skipping because it's giving me a headache. It was making me nauseous. The last time I played Spider Man was in bed with the backbone controller and uh it The night before I played it and it was perfect, and then that night, for whatever reason, it was crazy bit crush until it disconnected and then I have to reconnect. You know. Spider Man was tough too. It was the first game I tried on this thing, and even though the connection was almost perfect, when you build up a ton of speed and you're swinging through the city, you get the bit crush no matter what, even when this thing's running at its best, because it's just moving too quickly. It's too fast. There's a lot, there's a lot going on. Also, input lag became an issue when there was a lot of bitcrush stuff going on, and like I was just doing like so stupid story stuff in the game, so it didn't really matter like what my input lag was. And then I started a fight and I just couldn't play it. The input leg was too much with the bit crush on top of it. Yeah, but again, that's a remote play that's different. But it seems like they didn't really fix much it or they made it worse somehow. Yeah, I'm glad I wait because I almost did what I did with the steam Deck video and just stayed up on and made a video. But I decided to wait because I was like, no, I think I need more time with this thing to get a more diverse range of testing done. I do want to take it out of the house too and try that. There's just such a hit or miss. I don't think it's something I can recommend, which is such a shame because I can't stress enough. When it's working. I love it, and if I could sit in bed and have it work like that, I'd I'd be infatuated with this thing. It'd be so cool to sit up there and play through Final Fantasy sixteen and I would lose my mind. It'd be so cool. But I feel like to do that effectively, I have to move my route upstairs, like I don't know what else to do at that point, which is just kind of ridiculous. So if I'm pinned to my basement, I may as well just play on my TV. On the point of the audio. I think that usually mobile Wi Fi chips have Bluetooth built onto the Wi Fi chip, so this is just an Android tablet, So I think that it does have Bluetooth in there and it's just disabled. They just don't let you use it. That's what happened with the switch for some reason. Yeah, and then they enabled it after I think they I think for the switch they thought that the because I think the controllers connect through Bluetooth, and I think that they thought having audio would interfere with the with the controllers in some weird way. But then they just enabled it. They figured it out eventually. I doubt they'll get a firmware update because PlayStation seems to hate Bluetooth for some reason. Yeah. I was going to say, either PlayStation feels the same way or they really want to force people to use their their hardware, their earbuds and stuff like that. So one last thing I wanted to say about it too, which I found really weird. It it literally only plays the games from your PlayStation. It will not stream Netflix or any video services from your PlayStation. Like, you can't sit there watching your Netflix. You literally can only stream games if you try to load up Netflix, it would say no, oh, because you're because you're streaming, because you're remote player. That makes sense. Yeah. IGN gave it an eight out of ten, and everyone else I saw basically lambasted it. But it's interesting because like you see this thing and you know if it's for you or not, like like this is for a very small subset of people, and even them, I would be like, there's other options you could get. But I mean, I I do, I do have to stress this when it works. I agree with that eight out of ten. I agree at one hundred percent, maybe even a nine. This is the audio might just bring it back down to eight. It's just it, it's just fifty it doesn't work. Yeah. Yeah, If it doesn't work fifty percent of the time, it just doesn't work, then you can't know. I can't. I know, I know, I agree. It's weird. It almost it's almost like it needs two different ratings or it or it's just not ready. It's just not I don't know, I don't know what it is. It's hard. It's honestly hard for me to find a peace with it, like a like a space with it, because I don't want to sit here and say it's awful. I hate it sucks because I've had moments where it's really cool. So I'm just kind of mixed on it. I don't know, not recommending it, that's for sure. People in the chat are shitting on IGN now. I mean they always do until IGN reviews one of your favorite games and gives it to ten and then everyone loves IGN again. Yes, they get paid to give it a good grade. Yeah, I don't know if that's true. I think IGN just I think IGN's most of the time they worry too much about upsetting people or upsetting companies. I don't think it's a paid thing. I think they just want to keep everyone happy ninety percent of the time. I think it depends on who. I mean, you know, there's multiple people who work at IgA write stuff. It's I don't know of anybody who's like this or I can't think of this happening. But I frequently worry about how like maybe they have a new writer or something and they're worried about how people are going to perceive their reviews, and that would definitely have include some sort of bias. And it happens with YouTubers too. I think there's a lot that goes on in a situation like IGN that makes scores kind of flubbed in one way or another. But I don't think it's money. Also, like think about it, like you get a game or a device early and you don't know what the rest of the world is going to think about it, so you have to give it a review, and if you don't like it, you could be the one guy that gives five out of ten and then everybody hates you. I mean, everyone has different opinions. I don't want to go back to it, but it's the same thing that happened when PSVR came out too. I still will stand by I think it's a cheap feeling headset that doesn't do enough to make it worth the price, or especially compared to the question two or three. And then Lina Spriggin tech tips loved it and thought it was the best headset that he's ever seen. Oh that happened is insane. That's happening with the anti glare coating on the on the Yeah, somebody some YouTubers said that anti glare coating ruins the dynamic range and it's worse, So don't get the anti glare cootics and now everybody thinks they can't get the anti glar coding. The anti glare coating looks fucking awesome. It doesn't matter how much dynamic range you lose, it looks sick. There's no way to quantify, like with stops of dynamic range or with knits or anything. You can't quantify how the anti glare coating looks good. It just looks good anti glare coating. But I ranted about this intensively in DMS, but I put it in my video too. I didn't say, like this YouTuber said, dynantic clark carding is bad. I just said, there's no way for me to put into like a metric why anti glare coating is better. It just looks better. And that's it. It was. Sometimes you can't give a technical reasons. One of them weird things. Well, we've had anti glass screens. The switch o Lad's anti glare right, No, no, no, it's glossy. It's super gloss Okay. In fact, I'm tested it against the switch oh lad because the switch a led is probably the closest thing you're going to get to the steam deck without the anti glare. We've had anti glass screens but now all of a sudden they're the worst thing ever because the YouTuber said that it was a bad idea. Yeah, yeah, and like you kind of like I think one of the criticisms is that the black level is like higher, like it looks brighter, and yeah, you can kind of tell, but it doesn't matter. It still looks so much better. The anti glare still is is so much cooler looking, and anti glar anti glare is so much better than not having anti clay. And sure it might it might soften some of the effects of the O LED screen or the HDR or whatever, but that anti o lead but barely. But that anti glare O leed HDR is still gonna look so much better than the glare LCD or even an LCD anti glare. It's still gonna look better. Yeah, and it's worth not having the glare as a trade off. It's it's still light years ahead of the LCD that was already in there. I mean, maybe it's a personal preference, but if if my blacks were a little better, but every time I looked in my screen I saw my reflection, I I'd be a little put off. It's hard for me to believe that it's a personal preference because these things are expensive, and I can't imagine all of these people have been able to see the difference between an o LED with a glossy screen and an OLED with an anti glare screen. You know, that's like a privileged thing to be able to have two devices in front of you and you can look back and forth. You know. So they're probably going off of the word of other people. Well, some write bred and chat said anti glare is still on like every monitor. I don't know why people are suddenly against it again, it was weird true. Where we found the source. It was this YouTuber made a video and said that the anti glayer was ruining the olad, and then from their comments spread all around the internet. Everyone all of a sudden is an expert and they think that the anti glare o lad is ruining the Steam deck with the anti glare, which is like, I don't know. It feels like if they didn't make that video, this wouldn't be a thing. But now everybody is against the anti glare. It's it's almost like people watch it and they feel like they have a little something of like technical knowledge, and they just they want to share it. Yeah, everyone wants to. Yeah, everyone wants to just blurt out what they know already. That happens is like comments all the time. It happens on streams and stuff. By the way, nobody other than YouTubers even have the device yet, so everybody's saying that it looks horrible, like you know, really know yet. Yeah. Also, like I was filming it, and it does look a lot worse on camera in person y, Like on camera the I was shining a light over it, and on camera the light was completely white on the screen, but in person I could see through it, whereas on the glossy screen it's just bright white reflection that you can't see through. Dude, I was blown away by the new screen. And I also love the way that the screen looks when it's off, just because of that. Yeah, finish, Yeah, it's so sleeky. It's awesome. Yeah. Anyway, that's it. We're done. That's deskinin. Oh we did it. We had more stuff on the dock. I thought we do bonus not much. Uh. Yeah, we got to talk about the game boards a little bit. We both already did like a stream where we went through them. But you know, what's the important points in In the bonus episode, bubb and I are probably going to argue about why the Game of the Year I voted for Boulda's Gate and he voted for Zelda. I don't know if it's going to be like a big argument. I know I'm trying to make as I think Boulders Gay definitely is a the only other thing that's a contender. Let's save it for the bonus baby.
