Cabo San Lucas: A Kids-Free Travel Reset (ft. Becca Ingle)

Wayfinder: Life-Changing Travel

Nourishing rest, much-needed reconnection, and a message in a rainbow… sometimes we have to follow the unexpected to arrive exactly where we’re meant to be. For travel creator and swimwear founder Becca Ingle, a babymoon in Cabo San Lucas became a long-overdue reset. Traveling without their children for the first time in a decade, Becca and her husband traded packed family schedules for warm air, quiet mornings, indulgent wellness rituals, and the kind of presence that’s hard to access at home. While reliving the the trip, Becca reflects on marriage, motherhood, and the importance of making space in our busy lives. And when a familiar rainbow appears at just the right moment, the trip takes on deeper meaning, reminding her that sometimes stepping away is exactly how we find our way forward.

For many of us, life moves fast. Even when we
try to carve out some time, we're surrounded by movement,
was in cars, busy people, and a non stop stream
of messages plowing for our attention. For some, that paces
tied to raising a family, where even though the work
is worth it, it's still just as difficult to find
peace without taking a little bit of space. This is Wayfinder,
Life Changing travel. This podcast goes beyond the guidebooks into
the heart and soul of real life travelers as they
journey around the world. I'm your host, Daniel Scheffler, and
I have seen first hand how our stories connect us
and inspire us. Today, I'm chatting with Becker Ingele, travel
content creator and founder of Laine snow Swimwear. Becker travels
the world, often with her husband and kids at her side,
exploring luxurious destinations and sharing her adventures with others. But
when Becker and her husband unexpectedly got pregnant with their
third child, they decided to take a baby moon, just
the two of them, to Carbo Saint Lucas, one of
Mexico's most indulgent destinations. Join me as we follow Becker's journey,
one filled with rest, reconnection, and a surprise greeting she
could never have expected to receive. Nice to meet too.
Where are you you too, I'm in North Carolina. Which
city Oceanow Beach. It's like an hour between Wilmington and
Myrtle Beach right in the middle. It's such a quiet
beach town. I actually love it because everyone hangs out
with everybody, so it kind of feels like our own
little oasis over here.
So did you always want to travel? Is it something
that you thought about when you were a little girl,
or was it the business of it is what made
you do it.
I've never actually circled back to when I was little,
but I was privileged because my parents were taking me
a lot of places. It was just secondhand to me
from a young age. We would go to Hawaii every Christmas,
and family members lived in China. My sister traveled all
the time. So I always just like.
Knew I wanted to see the world.
And then when I went to college, I did in
exchange in Hawaii and lived there for six months. And
that's I feel like when it really hit me that
I'm an island beach girl and I prefer tropical vacations
like I'm not that type to go and look at
a museum and architecture like my sister. I feel like
a lot of people that are in the educational space
love that, but I'm more like, Okay, how nice can
a hotel be? How beautiful can a sunset?
Or the water? How clear can the water be? That's
what I'm chasing.
I have three kids now, an eleven year old and
a nine year old and a seven month old. But
when the first two we're little, we were traveling so
much and I was young, so I wasn't ready to
just stay at home all day with a baby. I
feel like you start living your life right after college.
But I also got married and had kids right after college,
so I wanted to explore. So I was taking them
with me, and other moms were like, oh my god,
how did you get out of the house. Where did
you take the kids? They wanted to know all the
travel tips, because it is hard if you don't have
a good mindset. I started writing blogs and tagging hotels
back when Instagram was just the og bloggers, and it
kind of just spiraled where if you go to one
certain location and tag people in that area, I swear
everyone in that area follows those accounts, so then other
hotels would reach out and be like, wait, do you
want to come back and feture our hotel? Even though
I wasn't really partnering with the other hotel. I was
just tagging and showing what we paid for, So it
kind of just evolved that way.
Biggest travels are most often led by way of luxury
and beauty, two very necessary ingredients for a perfect vacation.
It's no surprise then that Becca was drawn to one
of Mexico's most decadent destinations, Combos and Lucas.
Cabo. I discovered when the kids were young. It was
during COVID. We went out there and took the kids.
At first.
I remember walking there and we had just gone to
Greece and Italy the year before, and I was like,
oh my god, this looks just like Greece and Italy
and I didn't have to go as far. So it
really caught me off guard and took my breath away.
The first time we went to Cabo, and it felt
like the luxury side of Mexico because I've gone to
Cancun for years. We've gone to Tuloom, but we've never
ventured to that side because from North Carolina it's a
hall it's at least an eight hour travel day.
When you travel to Cabo, you've been with kids and
you've been without kids. Tell me how the difference has
been with kids.
It was like, let's see how much I can learn
about myself, Like how can I stretch myself traveling and
see the capability I have in me for the energy
they have. I like to explore when I'm with the family,
like we'll go to aquariums, or they've gone swimming with dolphins, whales.
Well, watch, We'll go on a boat.
I'm a very go go person, and that's why I
love Cabo too, because I felt like all those excursions
exist out side of the resort. Then with the baby moon,
it was just like, Okay, let's stay at the resort
and just chill here.
If you haven't heard this term before, a baby moon
is a trip taken before a new child arrives, a
moment to rest, reconnect, and resent before everything changes again.
And for Becca and her husband, this trip came at
exactly the right time.
We went last year. It was like end of October,
early November. I was seven months pregnant, which is the
ideal time for baby mooning, but this one just really
felt like it was time because it had been ten
years since we had vacationed alone without the older two.
So it was mainly focused around wellness and reconnecting with
my husband and just a reset before the baby comes.
Without the kids for the first time in ten years.
Beckon her husband left the cold autumn weather of North
Carolina headed for Cambo.
The doors open and you're flooded with warm air and
dry heat because I'm used to North Carolina with the humidity,
so it had that crisp air feeling of California, like
it was a fresh destination. So you're like, Okay, I'm
here on vacation and there's bars open where you immediately
grab two coronas or your beer of choice and head
to your destination. And along the way you're seeing cactuses
and beautiful streets and you can stop on the side
of the road and grab coconuts, which is actually one
of my favorite things. I will stack up on coconuts
before we get to a resort and have them for
the week because they're that good. And then you arrive
at your hotel and most hotels have your own coroncierge,
so you're whisked away and immediately pampered upon arrival. And
the one you chose to do our baby moon at
Grand VELAs Boutique had these beautiful pink flowers all along
the entire walkway and the lobby when you walked in,
in their.
Own signature scent that just kind of took your breath away.
With the view immediately, you once called combo the grease
of Mexico. What made you say that?
The whole scenery just looked and mimicked grease with the
hotel rooms going up the mountain, and the sunsets were
so clear and vivid, like Santorini. If you've ever been
there and witnessed the sunset, people stand for hours just
to see that happen. It felt very clear, and you
fork as you're standing there and have dining table side
and the cliffs just take your breath away.
I think it has something to do with the way
that the landscape forms, Right, you have this mountainous range
that's actually much bigger than you realize, and then you
have the sea sort of meeting at the Pacific Ocean. Yeah,
and it creates a sort of microclimate that I think
is quite unique. And then it's dry like it's just
such a special place. It just doesn't feel sort of
earthly like, it almost feels otherworldly.
Out of body experience.
So with all that beauty around you, were you finally
able to rest? Yes.
I actually am such an aries a go go go
person that on day two I was like, oh my god,
what can I do? I felt like I'm always doing
something with the kids that I had to force myself
to just sit in a chair and lay out and
just be pregnant.
Yeah mm hmm.
Once be a surrendered to just slowing down, she began
to bosk. In the all inclusive hotel experience.
We were able to just enjoy the hotel room.
We got the Grand King Suite, the sweets there are
two thousand square foot and of course in my mind,
I was like, oh my god, this's be perfect for family,
but it is an adult's only side where we stayed,
and when you walk out, they have plunge pools or
you could do like a bathtub out there and just
soak and enjoy the entire space of the room. And
even if you book twenty four hours in advance, you
can do like floating breakfast in the pool, so we
kind of just rotated from the pool to our room
the entire time we were there.
They had three different pools.
One day, our concierge set up two chairs on the
beach to relax by there, and we had coconuts delivered.
He went and got them specially made, so that was
a nice day. And then we also checked out They
have a wellness spot there, so we spent one day.
At the spot.
They had a cold plunge side, a warm pool side.
They had a eucalyptus room, and they had this really
cool shower you could walk through that the rain would
be different things, it would be intenser, drizzle. It was
like ten different settings to walk through. I've never seen
that before, so I thought that was pretty cool.
What did you do in the evenings?
Since it's all inclusive, you can rotate between all the restaurants,
and they also have a sister property that does allow
families that you're able to dine at too, So we
went over there one night and did a four course
mill at They had a two star Michelin restaurant, Casina
de Altar. Since I was pregnant, I couldn't drink, but
that was fun because they made me curated mocktails and
it felt like a noboo. It was very top of
style and it took like three four hours, so it
was nice. And then you could sit by the fire
pits and do somemores. So it was kind of just
like eat, swim, massage, repeat type of vacation.
Nice. It sounds very RESTful.
Yeah, and it didn't feel crowded either. The way that
resort was set up, everything was very easy. Like you
know you stay at those big hotels where it's a
drag to get to one locate to the next. It
was just very easy to come down two floors and
walk out to the pool and the beach was right there.
And on the topic of delicious meals, here are more
of Becker's tips and takeaways for dining in Carbo.
There is one restaurant called Esperanza. We did one.
It was like a full moon dining experience, three course mill.
It was one of the prettiest meals of my life. Again,
it reminded me of Petrogal restaurant, but you walk down
steps in the whole restaurant. The architecture is like each
row of tables goes down a step, so everyone can
see the view while you're dining. It was just breathtaking.
And they're set up for families too. It's like little boosts,
so it's just very comfortable dining. I feel like when
you're traveling you just get to experience food that you
never eat at home, of course, and there's top chefs
with different ingredients within that stuff where everything tastes good,
like Wagoo, which is obviously very expensive, but I just
love the whole presentation. Usually they had it where you
could put it on the hot stone and flip it
and put it in the different dips, and they do
like these little spring rolls with different textures and ingredients.
So you're on your baby moon in combo getting a
much needed reset with your husband. Thinking back, what is
the benefit of no kids, travel and having this time
away together.
Probably your mental state, just recharging your mind, your soul,
your relationship. I think it just brings you back to
like you were the first two people in this marriage.
You know, you started this entire family, and y'all were
teammates versus trying to get through the day to day
things and kind of rekindles the romance of the beginning
and just like makes you fall more in love because
marriage is hard in general, but having kids.
Is even harder.
So I feel like you go through these waves of
I hate you or I hate you, and like it
just makes you appreciate being with them and having their
undivided attention versus the kids too, kind of like why
you fell in love in the first place. We were
walking out to a sunset and just holding hands, and
I'm like, why do I feel like I'm in high school,
like I haven't done this and so long, where you
just get to connect with somebody and watch the sunset
and enjoy your time. I think this baby also brought
us closer together because, like I said, marriages can be tough,
and I feel like we got into this rhythm of Okay,
the kids are older, we're just kind of doing our
own thing, and then when this baby came out of nowhere,
it was like starting over. It felt like I was
twenty again and I need my husband, I need you
to help me me.
Cook food, I need you to help me carry things now.
So this baby moon just felt like another life, like
a parallel universe, like we were getting to do this
and do this again, and I'm so grateful that we
have this opportunity and I can do it right, or
I can appreciate every single moment of this baby's life
because I've been through this and I know how it goes.
In connection with the news of her surprising pregnancy, Becca
came upon something unexpected, a new travel ritual she could
never plan herself.
My mom passed away almost four years ago, and everywhere
since she passed that we've traveled, a rainbow shows up
on the last day. It's really wild. But I think
it's just her like sending her sign like stay safe,
I'm here, you know, because she was always a worrier,
you know moms are.
They'll be like, don't go to Kapa right now.
They're just always so paranoid about you, I feel like,
but it's always just a good reminder to.
Be like, Okay, everything's fine. You know, She's always he here.
Sorry, that's so wonderful. Like it is true, she is
always with you. Did you see rainbows before? This is
a new thing.
No, it's so wild.
And when I look back on my videos and that's
why we were on this baby moon.
Actually is the.
First time I saw a rainbow at our house in Oceanile.
I found out I was pregnant two weeks later, and
my dad was visiting me for the first time here too.
Since she had passed, I wasn't planning on having any
more kids, so this baby was like sent straight from her.
So when I look back at my videos, when I
saw that rainbow was like June tenth, I was like,
oh my god, I was pregnant and I didn't even know,
and it was her first sign. He realized how much
you met someone when you have a kid and they're
not here. So it's just little moments where I'm like,
oh my god, she love. My newest baby's called Coasts.
She's seven months old, but it's been like healing my
heart just to have her too.
I'm sorry for your loss. It's hog.
Yeah, when you have kids, you realize how much you
need your mom. But that's why my mom sent this child,
because she would always say slow down, back, how you're.
Doing too much, and that baby Moon was like, Okay,
this is what you need to do for your mind
and your help.
Just relax.
Bekerfelt as if her mom sent with this baby as
a way to slow down and reconnect with her life.
That moment under the rainbow gave the baby moon a
deeper meaning, and with that comfort, Becker allowed herself to celebrate, explore,
and enjoy combo fully. Here are a few more ways
she did just that.
One of my favorite ones was a boat that you
could go on I think up to like twenty people,
but that takes you out and it parks and they
have floats and I'm just such a boat island girl.
I like being in the water all day. So you
just bring your own drinks. You're out there playing music.
There's other boats and you're just kind of floating and
jumping off the boat all day. Was one of my
favorite activities. The camels and the ATVs. There's different deserts
out in Cabo that you can take a bus to
and do all these activities, and the rainforest and zip
line through the jungles. One time we went to the
underwater caves that were there from like.
One hundred years ago. Oh oh okay, so you can
go through special caves and explore.
And we walked through under there and see all the
ancient writing on the caves and everything too. And then
when we went out to the rainforest, you could see
the different animals out there that were part of that
area and like reserve.
Did you see whales when you were in Cabo? Oh?
Yeah, we saw them too, and that was amazing. Crazy.
Yeah. After days of sunshine, rest, delicious meals, and quality
time with her husband, Becca returned home to her full house,
not just relaxed, but reconnected.
I think you're also grateful to be home, like, see
your kids again too. You're like, Okay, I had a
good break, but I like missed y'all. But you're also
connected with your husband or significant other again too, So
it kind of stays with You're like, Okay, we're not
the enemies. You don't need to go against each other.
It's the kids that can make you crazier, the lack
of sleep.
You know. Becca Ingles travels constantly, it's both passion and
her profession, and most of the time her kids come
along for the adventure. But it was this baby moon
in Carbo, this intentional pause from her normal routine, that,
through all of the fun and recreation, brought her into
a deeper connection with her husband and the spurt of
her mother. Little could she know that her own motherhood
would be strengthened by leaving the kids at home just
this once and having the space and quiet to be
with herself.
My message to future people traveling to Cabo is take
it all in. Take in the scenery, take in the language,
take in the culture, take in the travel aspect of
where you are, because it is beautiful and it's not
like any other place. I just think it's a really
perfect destination in general, whether you go for your baby
moon or you travel there with your family and it's
outside of the US, to bring your.
Passport wherever you take yourself. Next, may you follow the
rainbows to show you that you write where you need
to be. Wayfind, a Life Changing Travel is a production
