Speaker 2: Hey, Ken, question for you while you're out in San Francisco. The Giants had this dynasty run right where they won three titles in five years. What's the viewpoint right now from San Francisco over to La It's the one team we haven't gotten to today. Of course, they had like all the popping circumstance, Will Farrell driving around, Freddie Freeman and Miguel Rojas and they win eight too. So I don't know what would you use? Is there is there jealousy? Is there envy? Or they're like, hey, they're having their run. We had ours not too long ago.

Speaker 3: I don't know that they've worried so much about the Dodgers as they are themselves, Scott and they should be worried about themselves. They've had four straight years where they've been right around five hundred, maybe two games over, one game under three hundred whatever. It's been that kind of mediocre stretch for them. And what they're trying to do is get back to what you were talking about, the three titles in five years, twelve, I'm sorry, twenty ten, twelve, fourteen, hard to do, hard to do, and you've got a behamoth like the Dodgers in your division. But at the same time, they just need to get themselves straight.

We haven't gotten to this on the show either, and wanted to get your take since you were part of the article in The Athletic where we at with the potential Padres sale looks like they're going to sell for a healthy number.

Speaker 3: Most of them have California roots in some fashion or another, and you're not seeing California teams come up for sale, So that's a rare thing. And obviously California is a desirable place. San Diego is a desirable market with the beautiful ballpark. But the Padres also deserve credit for putting themselves in this position.

And it's a real interesting question too, Scott, as we get into the CBA year, the labor year right now, and once this deal goes down, don't say the numbers three point two, a, three point zero.

There are a number of tremendous rookies this year, especially, I would say, in the National League, and we haven't even seen kind of Griffin yet. Speaker 2: But if you look at some of the top prospects on their list at the time, George Lombard Junior, who could be the shortstop of the future for the Yanks. Spencer Jones, who's been talked about a ton. He's iron judge size and is using with potential if he limits the swing and miss Carlos Lagrange or however you say, a Todd Father, I'll learn it once he gets to the show. But he stole the show, Lene, He sold the show in spring training.

Speaker 2: Dominant, dominant arm that's coming soon for the Yanks. Cam Schlitler was also on that list at the time, so it could have been quite a pretty package for the Pirates.

Speaker 2: They didn't even want to hear Todd father what the Yanks had to say because of how damn good Paul Skeens is and what he means to the franchise. I love the timing how this comes out. You know, right on opening day Skeens gets lit up a little bit, only partially his faults not hard contact and some miscues in the outfield by O'Neil Cruz.

Speaker 6: You guys know me very well when it comes to trades. I love a guy that's been established. I love a guy even though it's been what a cup of tea, as they'd like to say, a cup of coffee for him. He's the top picture, one of the top pictures in baseball one maybe two. This guy is incredible. I would get rid of all the prospects for a guy like this, you know how I am. I would do that in a heartbeat. I think it's a great try. I think it is Ultimately it didn't work out, But I like that they're trying. I do. I do let a guy like George Lombard Junior if he was one of them to go prosper if with another team, I don't know, trade I would have in another prospect to get them, if you want the truth. So for me, the fact that they didn't want to even hear it that that that doesn't sit well with me because you always want to hear somebody out. But again, prospects their prospects for a reason. For now, trade them all and get a superstar and Paul Skins throw somebody else in there. I I love everything about that.

So if that's what we're talking about, like, I can't say it's going to be fours, and I don't think he accepts anything less than a four. Like, to me, this isn't this isn't necessarily a discussion about Paul Skene's you know, future extension worth. It's about the fact that can the pirates afford what he's going to get in arbitration. He's going to break records each three years that he's going to be there. So to me, the pirates have this year and next year, I think they'd be willing to probably pay him whatever the max a pitcher has ever gotten. And then add six million to it for his first year of arbitrary Like it's just it's gonna be a crazy, crazy discussion. And so to say you would get four prospects back from it, one of those four guys is in the big leagues this year. I don't care where you think, Spencer Jones or Legranghey or or you know, Lombard Junior is gonna be like, there's one dude that's in the big leagues right now, Like that's and you're giving up a It's a great move by the by the Yankees. I heard Charlie Manuel. I've said it before on the show. When John Carlos Stanton first got caught up to the big leagues. A reporter because Charlie Manuel loves Homers. He goes the reporter goes, hey, who would you trade for John Carlos Stanton? He goes, what, Well, I would trade. I would trade Roy Holliday. I would trade koloop Lee too, Like who else do they want? Like I want Paul Skeens. Is that guy you give up the farm? Because all of a sudden, you're winning game one of every every playoff series or game two if Cole Hamil's pitches game one.

And when you look around the League and your Paul and he's not stupid and all he I don't want to say all he cares about is winning. But he's one of those dogs, right, Like, look at him and the emotion that he had in the World Baseball Classic versus when he found out he won his.

So if you're him Kratz and you're thinking about your brain long term, you have to get over the hump, even if the number is big, and say, do I trust this team is going to put winning pieces around me so I can consistently get that feeling, that adrenaline rush in the postseason with the Pirates. That's the thing he has to think about. All he has to do is look over to Anaheim and look at Mike Traft's career, and he's barely touched the playoffs. You know the money's going to be close enough, right if he takes an extension with the Pirates now versus waiting or saying, hey, I'm not going to take something, so I'm going to get traded, Chances are you're going to end up with a team that's going to put you in a better position to win on a yearly basis.

There were many people online that were trying to go through the accolades for the prospects and then also what Schlitler has done in his short time in the big leagues.

Speaker 4: I mean, Tigers are gonna be it. I think that's that's gonna be the difference. But to me, when the first Skien stuff first came out, we didn't hear about this stuff. But I talked to a scout of a team that wanted Scheens, which is just any team that is in the playoffs. Every team would want Skiens. So that we can put that to rest. It's not just the Yankees, he said, it's not hard for a team that wants schemes like that's a no brainer. It's because if he gets hurt or something like that happens, like you can't control that kind of stuff. It's the team. It's the Pirates coming back. You can't miss you can't miss on that because look at what happened, Look at what happened with the Gnats. The Nats got rid of Wan Soto with two plus years to go because he wouldn't sign. He wouldn't sign the extension for four hundred and fifteen million, and they got back Mackenzie Gore from the padres, cj Abrams, James Wood and Haslin too. So, dudes that are all in the big leaders, one guy that's still in the minor leagues, and now the Nats haven't won at all from at all. From that, they got three prominent big leaders on their team, and now they flipped Mackenzie Gore over. So you can't miss it because you're not just getting players for that player. You're getting players to make your organization better so that you can ultimately win. So the pressure is on the team that's getting all the prospects back. You can't screw that up. So it's way more work for them.
