You’re posting regularly, showing up on stories, testing Reels, but something’s not clicking. If you’re starting to wonder why people aren’t reaching out, this episode will help you find the missing piece.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why helpful posts don’t always equal paying clients and how to shift your social media strategy so that it actually supports client attraction. You’ll learn how to move from surface-level tips to emotionally resonant storytelling, and how to position your personal brand as the trusted guide your audience is looking for.

We’ll unpack the four types of content that converts, why they work, and how to blend brand messaging with clear next steps. You’ll hear how to identify the root problem behind your audience’s struggle and create posts that inspire action.

I’ll also share how to use a simple five-part framework to turn any post into a conversion opportunity, while keeping your message aligned with your mission. Whether you’re promoting an offer or growing your list with a lead magnet, this strategy will bring more intention to every post.

If you’ve been relying on evergreen content that informs or entertains but doesn’t lead anywhere, this episode will help you course correct with more clarity and ease. It’s time to align your content marketing strategy with what your audience actually needs to hear before they’re ready to say yes.

Cheyanne Cleyman: Start creating content that exposes the root problem. Most businesses sell painkillers, but clients, they buy cures, baby. Let's do a quick example. So like in my industry, right, social media management, lead generation specialists, instead of saying something like, "Hey, here's three caption hooks, you can try".
Instead, this would be an effective strategy for myself: "Here's why captions aren't converting and what your messaging is missing". Feel the difference. One treats a symptom, one room feels, ooh, the deeper issues that's there.
Cheyanne Cleyman: Tired of showing up online, posting your heart out and still hearing crickets? Are you doing all the right things, but wondering why your content isn't converting? Your DMs are dry and your audience isn't buying. You're not alone, and this podcast is exactly for you.
Welcome to Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses, where strategy meets soul and connection. Well, that's the secret sauce. Hi, I'm Cheyenne Clayman, a wife, proud mama of three, former actress and fitness trainer turned serial entrepreneur and online relationship expert.
Over the last decade, I've built my own brands, helped dozens of others grow theirs, and discovered one powerful truth: connection is the real currency. If you're a service-based business or high-ticket brand that wants more leads, trust, and sales from social media without the burnout or fake hype, you're in the right place.
Each week, I'm bringing you short, powerful, and packed episodes that feel like a coffee date with a best friend and biz coach all in one. Let's turn your followers into clients and content into connection. This is Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses, and it's about to change how you show up online.
Let's dive in, boss. Real talk for a second. That's what you guys show up here for, right? You're out here creating great content. I believe you. It's thoughtful, it's helpful. People are telling you that they love it. You're posting consistently, you're trying different formats, you're learning the trends, and yet your inbox is still quiet, your calendar isn't filling, and you're thinking, "Okay, what am I explicit of missing?" Right?
If you've ever felt like you're doing everything right, but you're still not landing clients from your content, then this episode is your godsend. It's for you. Because here's the truth that most business owners never hear: great content gets attention, but strategic content and follow-up is what creates clients. And there's a very big difference between content that makes people clap, or modern day, right, like something, share it, and content that makes people take action.
So today, if you're ready to go, we're breaking down why helpful content still doesn't convert, the psychology behind decision making, the one shift you must make in your messaging, especially if you want to convert clients, and how to create content that inspires movement and not just superficial likes, right? So let's get working together. We're all about taking action. Let's fix the missing link in your social strategy.
So let's, first and foremost, start from the beginning, right? Let's start with the biggest myth. We've all been taught that if our content is good, clients will magically appear. And hey, maybe that used to work back in 2020, but here's what no one else tells you: people don't buy because of value. They really don't buy because of value anymore. They buy because of clarity. What do I mean?
Well, here, let me put it to you this way, you can give the best tips in the world, but if your audience can't see the path, like where they're going, they stay stuck, and stuck people just don't buy. They don't buy anymore. Most great content is actually just educating, entertaining, and inspiring.
Now that is really great for visibility, if that's what you're going for, right? It's awesome for engagement, and please make sure you splice into your content strategy plenty of those kind of posts, but it's not enough for conversion anymore. And why? Why, right? Well, especially since 2020 in this post-COVID age, education alone just doesn't create urgency. It doesn't create that FOMO, that fear of missing out.
You need to shift from information to transformation language, and that's exactly what I'm going to teach you to do today in less than 10 minutes. So there are only four types of content that convert consistently. And this really goes across the board, across any niche.
Number one, if you're taking notes, this is what you want to write down. So content that converts is content that creates awareness of a problem, awareness of a problem. Content that builds desire. Desire for a solution, right? So creating desire, content that gives confidence in the decision, like they're confident that your solution is going to work, and then content that bridges to that action.
So most creators, they live in one lane, right? Like, "Here's how to fix X, Y, Z," and I'm totally guilty of that myself. I have been there. It used to be effective, but not as much anymore. I mean, when you teach people how to fix something, it is helpful, but it doesn't make someone think, "I need this person to help me". That's the big difference, right?
Because in the creator economy, when you think about social media, when it first came out, not everyone was online, and not every business was online. So there was as much competition, and now it's just overly saturated, right? So people really need to see not just does your solution work, but "I want you to be the one to help me".
And ultimately, they need to see themselves, right? They need to see themselves inside the story you're telling on your social media. When your audience can't recognize their own pain, they're just going to double tap, feel like, "Oh, this is cool," and move on. Right? They may like your content. They may think it's fun. It may have even made them laugh, but they're still going to move on.
Think of your content like headlights, right? Headlights on a car. You want to show them the road they're on, show them where it leads if nothing changes, and show them the exit. Ultimately, that's conversion in 2025 and as we move into 2026.
Cheyanne Cleyman: Now you want to know about the shift that changes everything? Well, I promise you, it's probably more micro than you realize. It's subtle.
What you want to do is stop creating content that solves small problems, right? Again, that's digestible content, but it's not going to convince anyone to convert into being your client, because if they can do everything through just your free stuff, what's going to make them move on to the big stuff, right? That's why you want to instead start creating content that exposes the root problem.
Most businesses sell painkillers, but clients, they buy cures, baby. Let's do a quick example. So instead of saying, hey, like in my industry, right? Social Media Management, lead generation, specialists, instead of saying something like, "Hey, here's three caption hooks, you can try".
Instead, this would be an effective strategy for myself: "Here's why captions aren't converting, and what your messaging is missing". Feel the difference. One treats a symptom. One room feels, ooh, the deeper issues that's there.
So when someone realizes, "Oh, wow, like this is why I'm stuck," your content positions you as the guide to get them through that transformation. So do remember that conversion, right, requires emotion. No, I didn't say drama, but connection. This is the conversion that happens in a relationship. When you progress in a relationship with someone, whether it's a friendship or it's a romantic relationship, right? You need to reveal yourself through emotion. That's what builds connection.
So ask yourself about your content. Does your content make them feel seen? Maybe understood, frustrated, hopeful? People act when emotion is there and when it's strong enough to move them. So try these angles. Again, if you're a note taker, write these down, or even pause this and jot them down the notes on your phone.
Here we go. These angles, for example: "Here's what this struggle is costing you". Ooh, hitting someone's wallet. Now, I guarantee they're going to stop and listen to that one. "Here's why this keeps happening". No one likes being insane, right? Doing the same thing over and over. How about: "Here's what changes when you fix it"? Oh, you're painting the possibility, and that's what everybody wants.
So all about that quick tip, right? Bring this cadence into your content, and you are going to see so many more people convert. Okay? First, start with a story. Show a relatable moment, right? Something that you've experienced or a client of yours has experienced too.
Second, show the struggle. Highlight the root problem, okay? Highlight, where are they missing it, right? What are they maybe skimming the surface? Show it to them. Share it with them. Number three, shift. Help them see why they're stuck, right?
And then, once you show them why they're stuck, offer a solution. That's Step four, offer the path forward. And finally, five, you often heard in social media terminology, this is called the CTA, the call to action. Give them a step, invite them to take action.
So again, I should have said this in the beginning. This is the five steps, and they're all start with S's, of bringing your content into this cadence, right, of connecting people and connecting them to conversion. It's story, struggle, shift, solution, step. Story, struggle, shift, solution, one step. This moves someone emotionally and then leads them logically. That's the one-two punch that is going to help you, right? You feel that flow. That's conversion.
So maybe at this point of the episode, we are eight and a half minutes in, and maybe you're like, "Gosh, okay, I know my content is good, but I'm clearly missing something". Well, you are the exact person why we created the free guide, The Five Reasons Your Content Isn't Converting. Inside, you're going to learn the exact gaps that keeps clients from reaching out to you, the common messaging mistakes that kill momentum, and the simple shift that makes people think, "Okay, I need to work with you," capital letters. Right?
Go ahead. Go grab it in the show notes. Seriously, it will change the way that you write content and you see your content forever. Now remember, as we begin to land this plane on this episode, I want you to shift from helping to guiding. Right? See yourself as a guide.
You'll notice that there's going to be more DMs asking how to work with you. There's going to be shorter sales cycles, warmer conversations, and just higher commitment. That's what you want, right? You're setting your audience up for the expectations you have for them, for when they work with you. Right? It's like setting boundaries almost with your audience.
And ideally, you're going to then attract the audience that you really want. And why? Because your audience finally understands the cost of staying stuck and the promise of moving forward. That is where your great content becomes profitable content, baby.
So if you've been a listener of this podcast for just a little bit of time, you know that every single episode I keep short and sweet, but also actionable, because that's what this is all about. It's not just talk. It's about action. I want you to take action every single episode and see it start to effectively change your life. Because when you spend less time on social media and you let it work for you, that's time back that you get to put into your business, you get to put into your passion, and you get to do what God has led you to do.
So this week, I have a challenge for you. Your action step this week is to take one of your recent posts, so something you've already put out there, and I want you to do a couple things to it. We're going to tweak it and make it even better. I want you to one, add emotional resonance. Two, tie it to a deeper struggle. Three, show the cost of staying stuck, and then. Four, lastly, add a simple CTA, like, "Hey. Want the full checklist? Grab it free in my bio," right?
Basically, just go through those S's if you want to look at it more of the strategy I taught you just a few minutes ago. Tell a story, highlight the struggle, help them see the shift, right? Offer that solution moving forward, and then give them that step and invite them to take action at the end, and just watch what happens. Repost this post like that, and see how much more conversion you get from it. I promise this shift is going to change everything for you.
Once again, we are coming to the end of this episode. I just want to say thank you so much for tuning into Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses. As a small business owner myself, it means so much just to connect with you guys and share what I've learned over the years by making a lot of mistakes and just going through the transformation myself. I really do believe sharing is caring, and I want to see you guys get more time back, because that is something we cannot buy. So if we can gain it back in any other way, that is the biggest blessing that I can give to you, and the biggest blessing you can give to me.
