00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. 00:00:04 Speaker 2: Made it to a Wednesday. It's our one, Dan and the Dan Nets Dan Patrick Show. Fritzi's here, Dylan's in for seat and seating on the road. We'll hear from him a little later on Marvin Paul e Ars truly and of course the backroom guys. 00:00:16 Speaker 3: Good morning. 00:00:17 Speaker 2: If you're watching this program, Award nominated program. Up to sixty percent off, free shipping, poll, question, Play of the Day, stat of the Day, All of that forthcoming and if you would like to call you can operator Tyler sitting by eight seven seven three DP show college football rankings came out. No real surprises there. It all plays out every year. We're like, oh my gosh, if that happens, and that happens in that it just all seems to fit. It feels like it's a Rubik's cube where you go, I don't know what I'm doing. I'm keep twisting and turning, and then all of a sudden it matches up. It's really rare now and you get twelve teams in Notre Dame has to beat pitt and then once they do that, they'll be in the playoffs because they have Stanford and they have Syracuse. Stanford they're kind of inish and maybe they could afford another loss here Ohio State Indiana with the showdown, perhaps both will be undefeated when they meet, and then where they are positioned. You know, I look back at Oregon, like Oregon was number one in the country, but their draw in that twelve team playoff was just not fair. And somebody's going to be matched up with somebody first round where you're going to go, wow, that's you know, that's the prize. That's what you get for being a number one seed. And it might happen again this year. But still, as they like to say, there's a lot of football left to be played. But you want to talk about the most must win game of the weekend, I can get a head start Notre Dame Pittsburgh. That's a most must win game of the weekend because that means you're either in the playoffs or you're not. Now, I don't want to take anything away from Stanford or Syracuse. While I take everything away from Stanford and Syracuse, but those would be the two remaining teams. And then you start to look at strength as schedule, and this team beat this team, but this team is ranked higher, and it all sorts out. It all plays out for the most part here, all right, So we'll come up with the pole question, play the day, stat of the day, all of that forthcoming. The NBA has finally adopted they adopted my format. And then I have to credit this commissioner because he has to be brilliant because he listens to the show all the time. I ask him about doing some other things. Make the all NBA teams positionless, because that's what basketball is now. I got seven foot six guys playing on the perimeter. You don't really have a designated center, forward and guard. 00:03:20 Speaker 3: He did that. 00:03:21 Speaker 2: I also said, how about it as an incentive, you have to play at least sixty five games to be eligible for postseason honors. 00:03:27 Speaker 3: He did that. 00:03:29 Speaker 2: I also said, how about the rest of the world versus the United States? Now I get pride, I get patriotism, I get competitiveness. I might have an All Star game where there's passion. And the commissioner listened, finally took a while. Oh and I heard from the critics, Oh, yeah, you're going to have like six guys on the the rest of the world compared to the depth of the US team. I go, how about I take my six against your six? Like my chances if I take my starting five against your starting five. But I like what the commissioner did. He created two teams from the United States. So I'm going to dilute their roster a little bit and make it a little bit more equitable against you know, maybe a European roster or the rest of the world that won't be as deep, because I don't know if Franz Wagner is going to make the rest of the world team, the world team there. But I do know if I trot out Joker, Wemby, Jannis, Sga, Luca, come get some Now I got, I got something that's interesting, and maybe there will be the pride you know. You know, Joker talked about what that what was it? A silver bronze, bronze medal, Marvin bronze medal at the Olympics met more than the NBA Championship. To him, there's going to be pride, passion, maybe competition, and this is the last chance. 00:05:03 Speaker 3: But I do like this. 00:05:04 Speaker 2: I do like the United States against the rest of the world, and you're gonna have two teams and around robin format there, I applaud the commissioner. 00:05:13 Speaker 3: Yes, Paully, Just to. 00:05:14 Speaker 4: Be clear, we don't get SGA Canada, we don't get North America. 00:05:18 Speaker 5: No. 00:05:19 Speaker 4: Oh, it's not you don't get the content because that'd be nice for us to get SGA. 00:05:23 Speaker 2: No, it's more more important SGA is going to play for the world. 00:05:26 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, what about like uh. 00:05:29 Speaker 2: I mean if President Trump can get Canada in time and make it the fifty first state. 00:05:34 Speaker 3: But other than that, I think SGA is going to be playing for the world. 00:05:37 Speaker 4: What if a player was from the US Vision Islands, that. 00:05:40 Speaker 3: We would be US. We get that, Yeah, that would be you'd get Tim Duncan. 00:05:45 Speaker 4: We would have got Tim Duncan. Yes, yes, yes, Dylan. 00:05:50 Speaker 6: You want to hear the current MVP odds then, because this sort of paints a little bit of a picture versus Sga okay, then jokicch yeah, then Luca yeah, then Giannis yep. 00:06:02 Speaker 2: Then Wemby. That's a starting five. Is there an American in the top ten for MVP. Yes, so it's Austin Reeves, Wempy's. 00:06:14 Speaker 6: Plus six hundred and then a steep drop off to Kid Cunningham at plus thirty five hundred. 00:06:18 Speaker 2: Well, once again, I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. I don't know how long I can play my starting five if I'm the world, but I'd like to play him as long as possible. 00:06:30 Speaker 7: Yes, Marvin, it's not good when the US is going to depend on Steph Lebron and Katie per usual, Like you don't have any young American stars where it's like, all right, we can match up with these guys. We have Kid Cunningham, No, not to Kaid Cunningham and Jalen Brunson. What's gonna happen when Lorie Marketing and sagoone from the Rockets come in for the World team. 00:06:52 Speaker 3: Let's prob me your bench. 00:06:53 Speaker 7: I know it's eight, so it's not like twelve where it's a big drop off. I have all NBA performers as my top eight guys on this are the rosters twelve, No, three teams have eight. Oh, so that's why the world is even. It's even scarier because there's no big drop off. Oh like Josh Giddy isn't going to be on the team because they need to fill the roster. Okay, I have legit NBA All Stars. 00:07:18 Speaker 3: I love it. 00:07:19 Speaker 2: I love it, but it's because I hated it before. You know where it was just going up and down and you know it's like layup lines. 00:07:29 Speaker 7: Yes, yes, And NBA players don't be upset because this is your fault. If you decided just to play a little bit. We would have just had regular East and West per usual. 00:07:37 Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul and players like Halliburton injured, Jason Tatum injured, USA born players that would have been it would be on that team. 00:07:44 Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, is there a line out yet? 00:07:49 Speaker 5: Who you got? 00:07:50 Speaker 4: Looking? 00:07:50 Speaker 3: Well? 00:07:51 Speaker 2: I would take the world because I think it means the world to them. 00:07:56 Speaker 4: And see what you did. 00:07:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that would be my rallying cry. It means the world to us. 00:08:04 Speaker 3: What Marvin, That's gonna be on Peacock this time. 00:08:07 Speaker 2: It means the world to them, Country Pride. 00:08:13 Speaker 3: It means the world to them. 00:08:16 Speaker 2: The NBA All Stars Collide on NBC and Peacock next, Thank you. 00:08:23 Speaker 4: Yes, can we acquire a player? It seems like in soccer, guys jump countries all the time for different reasons. Can we get like sweeten the deal for SGA to become an American? 00:08:33 Speaker 2: Immigration's tough now, I'm just saying, yeah, RJA plays in Oklahoma. That's as American as it gets. 00:08:40 Speaker 7: Yes, Marvin, Well, we've already done that with Joel mb Joel Abib was from Cameroon. He's playing for Team USA. I was like, man, he just got here like eight years ago. He's like he's ours. 00:08:52 Speaker 2: Well, you get him. He's just not gonna be able to play collide pay Yeah. Yeah, I think this will be a fun format. 00:09:01 Speaker 3: I like that. 00:09:02 Speaker 5: Now. 00:09:02 Speaker 2: I don't know if you can extrapolate and go, how about we do the world three point shooting in dunk contest versus the United States. I don't know if you make it territorial like that, but this is his start, and that's all I ask the commissioner have an open mind with this, and I think this is going to be fun. 00:09:21 Speaker 7: Yes, Marmun mac McClung is ours, He's American, that's ours. 00:09:24 Speaker 3: That's right. 00:09:25 Speaker 2: Yeah, so why can't he stick on? Somebody said this to me, and I know that they were kind of joking, but they said, Bronnie is not better than mac McClung. I said, yeah, but mac McClung's dad is not as good as Ronnie's dad or as important. But mac McClung usually gets like he's gotten a couple of ten day contracts. I think he got cut by Indiana. He only played a couple of games. But I mean I watched him and I said, you know, he can play, and I've watched him in the G League and you know he dominates, but he just can't can't stay on a roster there. 00:10:04 Speaker 7: Yes, Marvin, it's hard to be like a six to two shooting guard and you're not a really good shooter, like he's a great athlete. Yeah, but he's one of those guys where it's like, h if he was six', five it'd be a different. Story he just can't. STICK i don't. Know, yeah he's probably made more money winning The dunk contest than he has in his professional. 00:10:23 Speaker 4: Career, yeah, Yeah. PAUL i want to go back to about five years. Ago you brought up this TOPIC usa versus The world to spice Up All Star. WEEKEND i lightly poop pooed it BECAUSE i thought there was too much downside for THE nba IF usa lost to the, World, like, oh our league is getting dominated by the rest of the. WORLD i THINK i was wrong, there because would it be better for THE nba for the world to win this? Game, yes, yes because it's a world. 00:10:50 Speaker 2: Sport it's but THE nba is being dominated by the world right. Now if you look at the best players in the, game the best players in the game are not from The United. States this is a truly this is What David stern told me fifteen years, ago how it's going to be an international sport where the players are going to be because it used to be The european players were soft the. Label When Dirk novitsky came, over you, know they made fun of. Him he's told the story where he's on the floor and they're making they're they're calling him soft in a few other. Names then they found out That dirk wasn't. Soft man Who jenobili wasn't, Soft Tony parker wasn't. Soft you know that you Got Sharunas marshall onas they weren't, Soft and so that label's. Gone you, know, nobody you don't hear. That nobody's calling The joker soft Or yanna's, soft, LUCASSOFT i mean maybe, pudgy which leads me To Nico Harrison man timings, everything AND i started to, Wonder, Okay Nico harrison survived the trade because they Got cooper. 00:11:56 Speaker 3: Flag if they. 00:11:57 Speaker 2: Don't Get cooper flag and they end up With Ace, BAILEY i they would have fired him probably before. This but here's WHAT i don't. Understand, okay they made the. Trade the trade was, terrible and ownership approved. This it's not Like Nico harrison, said don't tell, ownership But i'm Trading, luca, okay and then you trade. Him Mark cuban's not. Owning he doesn't run The mavericks. Anymore he's got a, percentage but he has nothing to do with, This so ownership had to approve. This but now you're going to fire the guy that you gave autonomy to making this. Deal now the owner should, say, hey you know, WHAT i hated firing, him And i'm partially to blame as. Well, okay at least it takes some, ownership true ownership. Here, now Would i've made the trade trading away somebody like that the year? 00:12:56 Speaker 3: Before you go to THE Nba? 00:12:58 Speaker 2: Finals AND i Know nico has said many, times you know you win championships by playing. Defense, Okay sometimes IF i outscore you buy a, lot that's kind of. 00:13:11 Speaker 3: Defense. 00:13:12 Speaker 2: Okay and if you add role players that play. DEFENSE i can still Let steph Be. STEPH i can Let luca Be. LUCA i can let these guys be great scores because IF i get thirty five and my guy gets twenty, two that would be plus. Thirteen that seems like that would be a win for. Us BUT i don't Want Anthony. Davis and, see that's what bothered me more than. Anything you're gonna if you're gonna take the risk of Trading, luca don't take a risk of whom you bring. Back i'm trading a twenty five year old star who can get you thirty and be out of. Shape, now he can always get in. Shape Anthony davis can't get. Healthy but IF i Got Anthony, edwards IF i got they're not trading. Shape but if you got somebody who had great upside and it is only twenty, three twenty, four twenty, five, okay and maybe it's a guy who's a two way, player or you get a couple of players who are two way players and advis into your defense wins. Championships nico didn't get that In Anthony. DAVIS i think he had one great game In dallas and then he got hurt and he's hurt. Now but, okay if, healthy we love to use, that not free if. 00:14:45 Speaker 3: Healthy. Okay kyrie And. 00:14:47 Speaker 2: Anthony davis are on the wrong side of. THIRTY i love Watching, kyrie but what AM i getting out Of? KYRIE i don't know what the endgame was going to be because when they, retire what do you have to show For luca because he'll still be. PLAYING i just don't understand, it and then you fire him, now, like at least let the roster play. Out let me wait Until Anthony davis And kyrie get. Healthy but this is a fans slow. Start Dirt novisky's, criticizing you, know it feels bad for the. Fans then all of a, sudden it's, like now we'll fire. Him, okay but, man he left a. Mess this is bad and it could have been. Great you Get Cooper. Flag imagine if they had a couple other younger, players guys that you could count on that we're gonna be able to. Play, okay The west is, Stacked Cooper flags. Struggling feels Like Jason kidd is, safe he's on. Scholarship but you look at that. Team they're not a good. Team and even when those guys get, BACK i don't know how good they can be because there's always going to be the. 00:16:06 Speaker 3: Wait what's wrong With Anthony? Davis, Yes, PONE i. 00:16:09 Speaker 4: Can remember the day after this. Trade we were all, incredulous and you, said the only way this trade works If luca goes to The lakers and somehow becomes a lesser player in the near. Future he's averaging thirty seven nine to nine this. 00:16:21 Speaker 2: Year BUT i also Said dallas has to win the, Championship, like you can't make that move with that because you've gone to the finals With, luca you can't, say, hey you know we won to our first two rounds of playoff. Game that's not good. Enough you made a move that was supposed to make you better and it, didn't and it cost to your, job and you will go down in history as somebody who was involved in one of the WORST nba trades of all. 00:16:49 Speaker 1: Time be sure to catch the live edition Of The Dan Patrick show weekdays at nine Am eastern six Am pacific On Fox Sports radio and The iHeartRadio. Cabs five Time All star joins us on behalf Of Shift Naturals Natural Sciences. Company i'll let him talk about that coming. Up you, know yesterday was the anniversary of your thirty point thirty rebound actually thirty one points thirty one rebounds. Game what do you remember most about? 00:17:57 Speaker 9: THAT i had Just i'm off a game against The lakers against Pau gasol And andrew bydam WHERE i didn't. Score you, KNOW i laid an, egg SO i needed to make my presence, known and you, know it just so happened that kind of started the you, know streak of double doubles where you, KNOW i have fifty plus in a, row AND i think that led me into my First All Star game as, Well so that that season was certainly a breakout year for, me AND i ended up BEING i, believe most improved at the end of that. Season and here we, are season, eighteen So i'm still. HERE i got gray, hair matching the, shirt trying to look as good as you do when you you, KNOW i don't know your, secret. Damn but withstood the test of time as. Well but a lot of fond memories from my first six years In. Minnesota in that game in, particular is one of the. 00:18:53 Speaker 2: Highlights what player do you think gave you the most of your gray? 00:18:56 Speaker 9: Hairs going Against? Dirkowitzki there was just nothing you could do to stop. That and THEN i would say on the offensive, end there was probably BECAUSE i was the fifth. PICK i was the new guy In. Minnesota you, KNOW i came into the. League boston was a superpower in The. East it Was Kevin. Garnett so those two guys gave me a lot of. 00:19:24 Speaker 5: Gray. 00:19:24 Speaker 9: Hairs BUT i also believe in that time frame WHEN i came in two thousand and, eight two thousand and, nine for several, YEARS i, mean it Was Zach, randolph it Was, pougrisol it Was Tim, duncan it Was Blake, griffin it Was LaMarcus, aldridge it was Dirt and that's just The Western, conference And i'm leaving a number of guys, out but at that, position it Was. Yeah it certainly aged. 00:19:49 Speaker 2: Me go back to THE Nba finals when you were with The, Cavs game, seven final minute and you get switched off With Steph. 00:19:58 Speaker 9: Curry, SURE i tell everybody all the time that you, know we had gone over that. PLAY i can't tell you how many, times and we were switching one through. FIVE i knew that they were gonna call my number. Up they didn't Want Tristan thompson to switch. Off they didn't want you, Know, lebron you, know really anybody, Else kyrie J. R. Smith they wanted to call me. Up and you, KNOW i was able to switch off on His. STEFF i kept my feet, down AND i knew he was gonna try and get to his. BAG i knew he was going to try and get to you, know it's three point. Shot that year he was UNANIMOUS. Mvp they were seventy three and. 00:20:41 Speaker 3: Nineteen and your arms are flailing like you're you're. 00:20:46 Speaker 9: Karate listen like if you you, know it's like old school When Will ferrell goes up there and does the debate and he like fully blacks. Out that is exactly what ACTUALLY i tell everybody all the time That. 00:21:01 Speaker 5: Steph gave up that. 00:21:02 Speaker 9: Ball he gave it back To, draymond and WHAT i was supposed to actually do was deny the ball back To. 00:21:07 Speaker 5: Steph so in terms OF eq. 00:21:11 Speaker 9: And and knowing the game and the situation and all that was at, STAKE i always told everybody was actually like a you, KNOW i kept my feet, down arms were flaying. In LIKE i, SAID i blacked. Out you, KNOW i contested a the heavily contested. Shot SO i did my. Job but they don't realize that it was actually a in some ways a bad defensive play in terms of our concepts and what we were trying to get. DONE i was supposed to deny that ball. Back Steph curry was never supposed to get that ball. Back so you, know there's a number of plays in that game that that that stick out to. Me obviously the block By, lebron the shot By kyrieu that put us, ahead and it was just, YEAH i just that was that was ALL i could do to to do my. Part AT a had a tough, series but the day people remember that last, game and you know that stop was a huge moment in my. 00:22:06 Speaker 2: Career all, right let's clear up something that happened last. Year there was a headline that was Written Kevin love graciously reacts To Dan patrick's Disappointing Cooper fly. 00:22:16 Speaker 3: Comparison, okay were you so? 00:22:20 Speaker 5: Sensitive? 00:22:21 Speaker 9: MAN i didn't take any any any type OF i didn't feel any sort of way about. That as you, Know i've been a friend of the Show i've BEEN i, mean a friend of. Yours i'd like to call your friend for a long. 00:22:32 Speaker 3: Time did you know WHAT i was trying to? 00:22:35 Speaker 5: Say of. Course of, course. 00:22:37 Speaker 9: That's, where like you, know things get taken out of, context and you, know, people AND i mean in, general people like the common fan that that add so much to our game and sports in, general they want to take that and make it something that it's. Not SO i didn't take any offense to. THAT i know That i've had a a damn good. CAREER i feel Like i've left some stuff on the. Table but of, course, no one hundred. PERCENT i understand what you were. Saying But i've Seen cooper play in college When i'm when they Played. Miami i've met with his parents a number of. Times i've seen him up. Close i've watched him since he's been fifteen years. Old and you, KNOW i know The maps are having a tough, go but there's. 00:23:26 Speaker 2: So much pressure on. Him in the, Post i'm blaming, us the. Media we won't be satisfied if he made FIVE Nba All star teams and won a, title played on The olympic. TEAM i, mean you're going to be A hall Of Famer i'm blaming the media because we won't be, satisfied, Right AND i think people took it. Differently, YEAH i. 00:23:48 Speaker 9: Think that's, true and that's unfortunately in some. Cases is the is the world that we live. 00:23:54 Speaker 2: In but it would be better if you were actually mad at. Me this would be good, Content. 00:23:58 Speaker 5: Kevin, yeah exactly, Right AND i think that's what people, want. Right But i'm just. 00:24:03 Speaker 9: Listen i'm very comfortable in my, career very comfortable Where i'm at, now and you, KNOW i hate looking back in the rear, view AND i think that in some cases that creates. Complacency but, NO i knew exactly what you were, saying AND i THINK i even said, like AND i believe that and feel that with every ounce of my. Being, Like i've always been a fan of the show and will continue to. Be there's no hard feelings BECAUSE i know the context in which you said it. 00:24:33 Speaker 5: In and what people wanted to get out of it on the other. 00:24:35 Speaker 9: Side but, again, like if you want me to be pissed, off you, know we could make some good headlines. 00:24:40 Speaker 2: Here what's your favorite memory Of kobe when you played on The olympic team with? 00:24:44 Speaker 9: Him oh, Man, okay so best memory With kobe was we had finished the gold medal. Game we had Beat, spain you, know like a Saw, Brothers Ricky, ruby all those great teams that they had had two thousand and. Eight you, know it was kind of a running it back in twenty. Twelve and so when you, know we're thinking we're going back to the locker, room we're thinking we're doing the champagne, shower and you, know that WAS i hadn't had that moment, before you, know twenty sixteen was really that first moment WHERE i had felt that type of you know the joy of winning and winning big at that type of. Level so we're walking off and you, know we do the media after the. Game as we walk off and are headed to the locker room and they, say Mister, brian Mister, love come with. Us we're thinking we're doing media and we get drug. Tested we get drug tested and we have to so we have a couple people on the, STAFF i forget exactly who it. 00:25:46 Speaker 5: Was bring us. 00:25:47 Speaker 9: Champagne and we just had to sit there AND i think we probably got about you, know thirty, ish maybe half an hour of Just kobe and myself talking all things just about life and, kids in. Career that was a very special moment for, me especially all all things considered now with obviously the terrible tragedy that happened with. 00:26:16 Speaker 5: Him BUT i look back with. 00:26:18 Speaker 9: That as a very fond memory in my basketball life and journey because he was a giant in my eyes and a lot of people's. Eyes and you, KNOW i grew up a. FAN i loved this game of the way that he chased it as number, eight as number twenty, four and you, know he certainly holds a special place in my heart in terms, of you, know my overall basketball career and journey these last thirty. 00:26:44 Speaker 2: Years what was it like to get yelled at By? LEBRON i still get yelled at By. Lebron i'll see him to for other, reasons of. 00:26:54 Speaker 9: Course but you, know WHEN i first got To, CLEVELANDS i had bad. Habits LIKE i look, BACK i had bad. HABITS i didn't know what it meant to. SACRIFICE i didn't truly have my first few. Years but in my six years In minnesota like a vet to show me the way and to deal with adversity and to, understand you, know what it meant to be a good pro and also a good. Teammate SO i think some of those moments and you, know him yelling at me and wanting me to be better was you, KNOW i would hope because he saw something more in, me and also that you, KNOW i was rough around the. EDGES i needed to grow up in a lot of. Ways BUT i think that took looking in the mirror and understanding that things weren't adding up AS i would have. Liked AND i think the adjustment curve in period was tough for. 00:27:54 Speaker 5: Me that that first. Year you, KNOW i went from. 00:27:56 Speaker 9: Being a guy that was a twenty plus point, score ten plus, rebounds and you, Know i'm ALL nba, guy and you KNOW i had a step and sacrifice and you, know play on the perimeter and let a, basketball you, know magician And kyrie getting. 00:28:18 Speaker 5: Downhill you, Know i've never seen it below the rim finisher quite like. Him he's so. 00:28:22 Speaker 9: Special and then a freight train In lebron do their, thing and you, know it was about spacing for, us and we were we ended up being a. Machine we were a team that was thrived under. Chaos, SURE i think that's part of what we're talking, about but you, know certainly those are some of my my my favorite memories BECAUSE i do feel like personally a PROFESSIONALLY i Have, uh it'll a come a long, way but it definitely added to a little bit this, this these grays here in that Silver. Fox what are you doing With Shift? Naturals SO i vested in the Company Shift naturals out of Ben. OREGON i grew, up you, know just just down the street In, Portland, oregon and it's a you, Know i'm talking about longevity here right and really unwinding from the. Grind and for, me you, know this was an, easy you, know thing to be a part. Of it's a hemp based bevers brand and it's focused on that. Unwinding sparkling water is ready to drink cocktails and companies meant to help you relax and. 00:29:28 Speaker 5: Feel good without you, know a. 00:29:31 Speaker 9: Hangover AND i think that that mottel really defines them that unwind from the grind and it's better for. You it's great tasting and you, know it's something that implemented into my everyday. 00:29:40 Speaker 3: Life how did YOU i was going to say. 00:29:43 Speaker 2: COURAGE i don't know if you'd use, that but you came forward with mental health and it's something that especially guys don't talk, about but can you help me understand maybe the week leading up to that where you actually, SAID i need to talk to this, this, uh bring this to people's. 00:30:02 Speaker 3: Attention. 00:30:03 Speaker 5: Yeah well it Was All star of twenty, eighteen and if you can. 00:30:07 Speaker 9: Remember that time In, february you, know there was a lot leading up to that in my personal and professional. Life i'd been named An All star that, year but even prior in the, summertime there was you, know things going on within you, know my family and my extended, family people within arms, distance WHETHER i was going through it or they were going through, it or you, know we were estranged or not speaking or on bad. Terms and then you, know we Trade Kyrie irving and we still have the expectations of make you, know if not making THE Nba, finals then you, know going and winning THE Nba. 00:30:46 Speaker 5: Finals and so. 00:30:48 Speaker 9: Our team a lot of new, faces a lot of new, parts and we did not have a good start to the. 00:30:57 Speaker 5: Season AND i think that that was. 00:30:59 Speaker 9: STUFF i broken my, hand you, KNOW i had the panic attack In november of that year against The Atlanta, hawks and everything kind of led up To All, star you, know that. Year SO i had the game taken away from, me AND i was just you, know so much of the TIME i was able to just lean into basketball as a as a safe, space so that being taken, away the team didn't know what was going. On my teammates didn't know what was going. ON i was afraid THAT i was going to, be you, know found. OUT i didn't want anybody to know because how it was going to affect my livelihood and you know those things. 00:31:31 Speaker 5: Said you, know there was rumblings Around All star as. 00:31:33 Speaker 9: WELL i started geting questions, about you, know where my head was and you, know HOW i was really. Feeling AND i think people started to catch wind of. It AND i Mentioned, Parking florida Because i'm, like, okay what is really going on in our country and that community and you, know those, kids those parents who's all affected by. That AND i thought that there was some good to be done by you, know sharing my story BECAUSE i know that all of you, know those people and so many others now That i've found out In march of that, year WHEN i press sin on that first person, article just you, know my idea was to just help that next, person help that one, person and you, know maybe you can change the trajectory of their life and thinking of their, families their, friends their, siblings, mom, dad you, know. 00:32:31 Speaker 5: Teachers, community. 00:32:33 Speaker 9: Peers you just don't know the ripple effect that that could have and just changing one, life so, that you, know led me to start The Kevin lovelund as. 00:32:42 Speaker 5: Well so it's been a. 00:32:42 Speaker 9: Great you, know a great thing and something legacy wise THAT i know That i'll have after. Basketball BUT i think that's what led me to, share and as well as DeMar De rosen sharing his story you know as, well or just a passive tweet that struck me as something that it felt like it was very, courageous AND i got to speak with him At All star of that year AND i think he could really he said it in his book that you, know he could sense something was going. On so that that that, kinship that brotherhood as as has really evolved as, well and you, know we've continued to do the work the last SEVEN us. 00:33:24 Speaker 3: Heres it's Called Shift. 00:33:25 Speaker 2: Naturals you can Visit enjoyshift dot com for more. Information great to catch up with, you stay in. Touch yeah sounds, Good thank, You, belly Appreciate Kevin. 00:33:37 Speaker 1: Love Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup in the. Champ he's a contributor To FOX Nfl sunday In New, england retiring as A, patriot and uh second year with THE T Mobile Friday night five G lights. 00:34:03 Speaker 2: Competition we talked about it last. Year we'll talk about that coming. Up great to see you. Again what do you see when you See Drake? 00:34:11 Speaker 10: May, YEAH i kind of see a little clone of the Great Tom brady in. WAYS i mean the way that he's able to read a, defense the way he's able to float the ball over coverage and hit his receivers or hit his tight. End the way he's been able to get it to the guy that's, Open like, say instead of forcing the, ball he'll check it down to the running back and get five yards instead, of you, know instead of tossing it deep and having a possible, Interception he'll he'll hit the guy that's going underneath and they'll be an eight yard play and then they'll just keep the chains moving from. There So Drake, may he's a smart and intelligent football, player just Like Tom. 00:34:51 Speaker 11: BRADY i see a lot of similarities big. 00:34:53 Speaker 9: Time. 00:34:54 Speaker 2: Now the one thing that would stand out Is Drake may's. Athleticism like he he can he can run a little. 00:35:01 Speaker 3: BIT i, mean Was tom ever athletic? Fast, Well tom is very. 00:35:08 Speaker 10: Athletic for not being, ATHLETIC i, mean he was drafted out of high school as a, catcher you, know as a baseball, player which is. Shocking you're, like oh my, gosh you're a baseball player. TOO i, mean for not not being able to run super, fast he still has great running for, him you, know not to be able to run around in the pocket and move out to the left and, right he's able. To he makes up for, it and he's able to read a defense better than any other. Quarterback tom knows his, strengths he knows his, weaknesses and he focused on his strengths so much that they became so dominant that it didn't. Matter he didn't that he didn't have the ability to run the ball for a first down because. 00:35:49 Speaker 11: He didn't need. 00:35:51 Speaker 10: That and that's what Made tom so special and that's why he is the, greatest you, know player of all time to play as. 00:35:56 Speaker 3: Well did you sign a one day contract with The. 00:35:59 Speaker 11: PATRIOTS i, Did, YES i. 00:36:01 Speaker 10: DID i signed it On wednesday at twelve, fifteen SO i wasn't eligible to play in the Game thursday night because it fired twelve fifteen On thursday. Afternoon that's WHY rkk wanted me to do a two day, contract BUT i, said, hey you're gonna have to give me a signing. Bonus so he didn't like that, idea so he only made me. 00:36:21 Speaker 3: Contract could you play at? 00:36:24 Speaker 10: ALL i feel like IF i lined, up you, know if it's you, know second and goal on the five yard, LINE i could definitely give a fade route full speed and probably complete, it you, know probably go up and make the. PLAY i would just, say the stamina want to be, there you, know the, athleticism and put the mind in the place where it needs to be for that fifteen. Seconds, YES i can do that for a short stint of. Time but that's. 00:36:49 Speaker 2: All how competitive are you with your place in history among tight ends. 00:36:56 Speaker 11: As of? Now you, know not at? 00:36:59 Speaker 10: All because it's all, over you, know it's it's over. WITH i can't, really you, know change the outcome. Anymore it's all set where it is. Now but WHEN i was, playing there's no. DOUBT i want to be one of the greatest to play the, game you, Know and that probably, came you, know in year, two year, three year, four WHEN i was, like all, RIGHT i. 00:37:18 Speaker 11: Can make my place in. 00:37:19 Speaker 10: History at the beginning of my, career it wasn't even a. THOUGHT i just wanted to be on AN nfl. ROSTER i just wanted to be able to contribute to the team and put, myself as you, know in the category of. Greatest you, know that wontn't possibly come to my mind until at least halfway through my. Career and THEN i was, like, man you, know IF i keep being you, know great on the football, FIELD i can possibly be in that. 00:37:42 Speaker 11: Category you. 00:37:43 Speaker 10: KNOW i wantn't really talk about it much because you, know you just got to focus on what you got to focus on and win games and be the best you, know teammate that you can, be and then everything else would take care of. 00:37:53 Speaker 2: Itself but you look At Kelsey, GATES i don't know who else you would put in, there but. 00:38:00 Speaker 3: Guns. 00:38:01 Speaker 2: ALLIS i guess he put up his numbers, too which are crazy and pretty good grouping to be. In but do you if somebody, says, Oh kelsey's better than you would you argue back that you're better Than. 00:38:16 Speaker 10: Kelsey, well in many, Ways travis kelce is better than, myself and then in many WAYS i would Say i'm better Than Travis. Kelcey there's so many variables and tangibles that go into it because we're kind of different players but we play the same position. STILL i, Mean Shannon sharp said it. BEST i, Mean i'm not sure exactly how he put, it but he, said Like i'm mistake and like he's. 00:38:40 Speaker 11: SUSHI i, mean it's just what you want that night for. 00:38:43 Speaker 10: Dinner and they're both, great but they're both totally, different and they both taste different and they're both different on your. Palette so it's all about what type of offense you're, in how you're getting, used and we're different. Players like if we played, together that would be the ultimate. Combo but If i'm in a package where it's an old school, offense you, know it's about running the, ball it's about just play. Action you, know it's about you, know being in the trenches and beating down the other. 00:39:09 Speaker 11: Team THAT i would take. 00:39:10 Speaker 10: Myself but this day and, era with the offense That Travis kelsey is, IN i feel like he fits way better in his offense that you know that he's in AND i don't THINK i would be able to contribute like. 00:39:20 Speaker 11: The way that he. 00:39:21 Speaker 10: Does so it's all different tangibles and variables LIKE i, said that go into. 00:39:26 Speaker 11: It AND i love What Travis kelsey's. 00:39:28 Speaker 10: Doing and what's remarkable as well is you, know to be in that category of the, greatest you got to have longevity, too and that's Why Tony gonzalez is. In AND i mean the guy played till thirty seven years. Old i'm thirty. SIX i couldn't imagine me playing right, now still thirty seven years. OLD i really WISH i could big. Time Travis kelsey's thirty, six he's still playing right. Now so it's impressive what they're. Doing but ALSO i would SAY i was a little bit more crazier and reckless through my twenties THAT i paid the price a little. 00:39:58 Speaker 5: Bit, dan that's. 00:40:00 Speaker 3: Couldn't you have played differently, Though Gronk, NO. 00:40:03 Speaker 10: I could have not played. Differently that's just a style that was in. Me that's just HOW i was born to. PLAY i wouldn't change. Anything, hey, Hey, groc if you play a little less, savagey you. 00:40:15 Speaker 11: Know you're gonna have two or four years left in your. 00:40:17 Speaker 10: CAREER i would be, like you, Know i'll just stick to the eleven years That i've. PLAYED i don't need thirteen Because i'm all about just going full. 00:40:24 Speaker 11: Out and that's just. 00:40:25 Speaker 10: That's just HOW i rolled my whole, life and that's kind of who Made that's kind of what made Me dan fake. 00:40:30 Speaker 2: Time you, KNOW i go back to when you were first in the, league first couple of, years and they're, like, oh they better worry About. 00:40:36 Speaker 3: Gronk he's doing keg. 00:40:38 Speaker 2: Stands like if that's the worst thing that you were, Doing i'm, like you weren't a trouble. Maker you played, hard you played. Hurt BUT i remember somebody was critical of. You of, man he's getting, crazy he's doing keg. 00:40:52 Speaker 11: Stands, YEAH i remember those, days and now we look at. It it was so. 00:40:57 Speaker 10: Harmless everyone's like laughing about, It like what so much other things going on in this? World and what else is going on in? Communities like people were worried THAT i was a trouble maker BECAUSE i was doing keg. 00:41:09 Speaker 3: Stands are you retired from keg? Stands? 00:41:12 Speaker 11: YEAH i. Am it's been a long long. Time that's for. 00:41:16 Speaker 10: Sure BUT i was doing all that, craziness which kind, of LIKE i, said made the made me the player THAT i was BECAUSE i was doing everything full. 00:41:23 Speaker 11: SPEED i was doing everything full speed on and often. Field that was my. 00:41:27 Speaker 10: Mindset and, then LIKE i, SAID i want to have changed it, because, yeah eleven years it got me to. Play but IF i could be full speed AND i would have lasted thirteen. YEARS i want to have done that because it doesn't make me WHO i. 00:41:37 Speaker 3: Am then better beer drinker you, Are? Brady, Uh tom actually. 00:41:42 Speaker 10: Is tom can pound beer is faster than anyone That i've ever, seen and beer drinking is really. 00:41:47 Speaker 2: TOUGH i. 00:41:47 Speaker 10: DO i drink two beers now And i'm, Like i'm super full and bloated And i'm pretty tippy now and that's ALL i. NEED i do social drinking, NOW i. DON'T i don't go hard LIKE i used. TO i social drinker.
