Hour 3 – Charles Barkley
Inside the NBA commentator and Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley joins Dan and discusses the nuances of Halls of Fame in light of the Belichick snub and what it means now for any other coach someone would want to put on the first ballot. He also discusses the Lakers, Lebron James, the Cavaliers, and Giannis Antetokounmpo wanting out of Milwaukee. Eli Manning will go into the Hall of Fame, but it’s mostly off beating Belichick and Brady – so what does that say? One caller has a big issue with Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA.

Only on NBC and Peacock, which is where you can find this program also NBC Sports Network. Your phone calls eight seven to seven three. DP show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show the Seahawks and Patriots. The line is still four and a half for Seattle over under still forty five and a half. Charles Barkley always joins us prior to the Super Bowl, and I always tell him, Charles, just give me your money because I know you're going to lose it. But if you give it to me, then I'll hold on to it and then I'll give it back to you because he usually doesn't pick the right team. So Charles will join us. Coming up Seaton Poll question for the final hour of the program. 00:01:00 Speaker 3: Yeah, we're sticking with the three that we got up there right now, right now, the biggest storyline heading into the big Game is Sam Darnold's redemption. The last place of that is a rematch of Seahawks Patriots. More of an underdog. Patriots are running away with that one, and people would rather have Drew Brees' career than Eli Manning. 00:01:19 Speaker 2: I think you still get. 00:01:20 Speaker 3: You get sustained excellence, healthy salary, and you also get a ring. 00:01:25 Speaker 2: That's pretty good one in New Mexico. Hey one, what's on your mind? 00:01:33 Speaker 4: Hey, good morning guys. 00:01:34 Speaker 5: H are you all good? 00:01:35 Speaker 2: What's on your mind? 00:01:37 Speaker 5: Hey? 00:01:38 Speaker 4: So, Dan, you made a comment a little bit ago about make up your mind. Either Fella check elevates Eli or ELI brings you down, but maybe it's both. There's fifty individual voters in the Hall of Fame and maybe some of them thought Eli brought built down, and maybe some of them thought, you know, it was the other way around, and it elevated Elion. That's why they voted the way they did. 00:02:01 Speaker 2: Well, you know who loses the credit there that they richly deserves. The defensive front for the Giants won that Super Bowl. They were incredible. They beat the hell out of Brady. Eli came up with a couple of great throws. Cannot deny that. But Eli will go into the Hall of Fame. But we're using the he beat Brady and Belichick to go into the Hall of Fame. So yeah, I mean it's tricky when it comes to the Hall of Fame. It is everybody has a vote. I'm fine with your vote. Tell me how you came to this conclusion. I don't think that's asking too much. This is a guy who's in the Hall of Fame. Charles Barklay joining us on the program. How were you told you were going into the Hall of Fame. 00:02:50 Speaker 6: I got a call. He told me they were going to vote, and I got a call. It's a very important call. It's emotional. You call the people close to you and give them a heads up, and it's obviously especially when you're like a first ballot Hall of Famer. That was the disgrace. What happened to Bill Belichick first and foremost. And let me tell you something else that. 00:03:17 Speaker 5: You know. 00:03:20 Speaker 6: The writer who wrote why he didn't vote for Belichick? That made it even worse than my opinion, because he said, well, I'm gonna vote for these older guys to get them in. This might be their last chance. Well, I believe this. If you haven't made the Hall of Fame in X amount of time, you just in the hall are pretty good. If you don't, like I say, it's either yes. 00:03:48 Speaker 5: Or no. 00:03:49 Speaker 6: I think Dean said it a few years ago, and I agree with like, if you have to really think about guys and guys who've been on these committees for double digit years finally get in, I'm like, I don't mean no disrespect to you guys. 00:04:03 Speaker 5: You were really, really good. You just wasn't a Hall of Famer. 00:04:07 Speaker 6: I mean, it's a very simple process in my opinion, but Bill should be automatically because now do you put Tom Coffin in, you put Mike Tomlin in, you put Harbaugh in? They only won one Super Bowl? A guy who's won six have been to nine, if he's not a first ballot Hall of Famer, that's what the problem arises. Now, you can't let any of those guys in. And like, Mike Tomlin is a Hall of Famer, but you can't put him on the first ballot. 00:04:39 Speaker 5: Now, same thing with my good friend Sean Payton, who. 00:04:42 Speaker 6: I love and respect, Like, well, you didn't put a guy who won six who've been to nine. 00:04:47 Speaker 5: That's crazy. 00:04:49 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's tricky. 00:04:51 Speaker 5: I don't know. 00:04:52 Speaker 2: You mentioned Dean Senders. Would you be in favor of some designation or place in the Hall of Fame for first ballot Hall of Famers? He on talked about maybe do you give a different jacket, maybe a different shade of gold with first ballot Hall of Famers, or do you give a designation of maybe first, you know, second floor, penthouse, whatever it might be. 00:05:17 Speaker 6: I have no problem with that. Listen, I'm a Hall of Famer, Dan, I'm not at the table with Michael Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, lebron Kobe. Those guys are a different table than me. That's just the way it is. I don't take it personally. I know that I had a hell of a career, but I just don't. 00:05:39 Speaker 2: But you're a first ballot Hall of Famer, weren't you? 00:05:41 Speaker 6: I am, But I'm not at the same table as those guys. Those guys won multiple championships. 00:05:46 Speaker 2: That's what separates Well, how many tables are you away from them? 00:05:51 Speaker 5: Well, I don't look at it like that. We're just not at the same table. 00:05:55 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you underrate yourself. 00:05:57 Speaker 5: No, No, dude, I'm very good. I was. 00:06:00 Speaker 6: But I'm saying guys who win multiple multiple, like guys who win one championship there, they're at a different table. 00:06:09 Speaker 5: Than guys who won multiple. That's no slight. 00:06:13 Speaker 6: Like there's a bunch of coaches who won a championship. 00:06:18 Speaker 5: They're not at the tailor, at the at the club. 00:06:21 Speaker 6: They're not the same table with Belichick, Chuck Nole, Lombardi, guys like that. And that's not a slight their first ballot Hall of Famous. But we're not all created. 00:06:30 Speaker 2: Equal, Okay. But it's Scottie Pippen at the big table that you're not at. No, but he won multiple championships. 00:06:38 Speaker 5: Yeah, but he wasn't. 00:06:39 Speaker 6: He wasn't driving the bus like Michael and Bird and Magic and those guys were. 00:06:44 Speaker 2: So James James Worthy is not at the big table. He's not, Okay, Okay, So you have to be the alpha dog, you have to be the number one guy. Okay. 00:06:57 Speaker 6: But it's just my opinion. Yeah, it's just like guys who are on multiple championship team who were role players. I don't hold out against them, but they're not Hall of Famous number one to start with. For guys who were the man you're in, you're out who carried the heavy carry it the water. Those guys at a different table. 00:07:17 Speaker 2: I saw or read where you called out NBC with this Michael Jordan, the interview that they did. 00:07:24 Speaker 5: I didn't call them out. 00:07:26 Speaker 2: You know they read that way. It reads that way every time. 00:07:30 Speaker 5: It's like people were calling me about that. 00:07:33 Speaker 2: It says it's a bad look for NBC. It's just a bad it's a bad look. 00:07:37 Speaker 6: It's a bad look to do one interview then splice it up throughout the season. 00:07:41 Speaker 2: I agree, I agree, you know it's. 00:07:44 Speaker 5: A bad look. 00:07:44 Speaker 6: Like they couldn't fly down there once a month to sit down with Michael. 00:07:48 Speaker 5: For an hour. 00:07:50 Speaker 2: I suggested Reggie Miller sit down with Michael Jordan and do a couple of uh interviews with Michael along the season. Wants some Dan, I wouldn't be I would have gone down there once a month. 00:08:04 Speaker 6: I mean to do an interview in August and splice it up. 00:08:09 Speaker 5: It's just the same interview in January and February. 00:08:12 Speaker 6: That's a bad look. Because I thought it was great that we had Michael Jordan back in the NBA. But now you look and I'm like, oh, he's wearing the same outfit from August, but they couldn't listen. 00:08:26 Speaker 5: It's great to have Michael back in the NBA. 00:08:28 Speaker 6: Put fly somebody down there once a month because the you know, the thing is, there's so much has happened in the NBA. Like what he what he talked about in August has nothing to do with January. 00:08:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, because he could be talking about Giannis right now. He could be talking about does Lebron go back to Cleveland and his career there? 00:08:50 Speaker 5: Right on? Like once a month, fly down to Florida. Give him. 00:08:55 Speaker 6: Hey, you guys got forty five minutes to an hour. Ask him something to relevant. Also, ask him stuff that's relevant in sports. You know there's a lot of stuff going on a sport. Well, would you love to hear about Michael's opinion on Bill Belichick? 00:09:11 Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, yes, Yeah. But I ask you this every year. Do you want to just give me your money that you would be betting on the Super Bowl since you always lose your Super Bowl bet, then I'll hold it for you and then give it back to you at the end of the game. 00:09:24 Speaker 6: Then, as a matter of fact, I think I'm on a five year winning I am I mean, and I'm riding Seattle like, like, right, we ride Secretariat. I've had Seatuta the last two weeks. I'm riding them until the damn will's come off. Okay, I think I think going back to that last game when they won, I think edcept when they won the last regular season game. I'm all in on San Francisco and I think there's something happened to Sam Donald going back remember when they had the Rams and that that that crazy game, like a couple of months ago. I think something clicked in him. He's not the same quarterback that gave him a joke the energy. But I'm riding that damn horse. I'm riding Secretariat all the way. And listen, you know how I feel about Seattle, the most underrated boys city in the universe. 00:10:20 Speaker 5: But I'm all lay on the Hawks. 00:10:23 Speaker 2: Okay, why don't you lead the charge to get NBA team back in Seattle. 00:10:28 Speaker 5: Well, I know they. 00:10:30 Speaker 6: Want that drastically, but I think the problem they got. Man who called me? Now let him up? How the maids are here? 00:10:46 Speaker 5: Sorry? 00:10:51 Speaker 2: Your maids plural? 00:10:53 Speaker 5: Are there a couple of my boy Steve and his wife. They're amazing couple. 00:10:59 Speaker 2: How much money you're going to bet on the Super Bowl? 00:11:04 Speaker 5: Probably about two fifty. Okay, about two fifty. 00:11:08 Speaker 2: What's the most you've bet. 00:11:11 Speaker 5: Half a million? You lost that? 00:11:16 Speaker 6: Oh I didn't win. I didn't win. My boy Belichick against the Rams. He wanted me big money. Oh okay, yeah, they want me big money in I'm all in on Belichick, man, he's my guy. 00:11:30 Speaker 5: I hate this. 00:11:31 Speaker 6: I hate this the way this stuff has turned out to be honest with you, because this ship like you know, you know what, it's unanimous. Everybody's pissed, you know, somebody's screwed up. I haven't heard one person with any common since say anything like this is just a travesty, and it's unfortunate because. 00:11:52 Speaker 5: The bad thing about. 00:11:53 Speaker 6: It is what those other guys rightfully sold are gonna be having. 00:12:01 Speaker 5: Who's gonna go in the Hall of Fame? 00:12:04 Speaker 6: That thing is that that elephant in the back of the room, like Belchick should have been here, and it's gonna take away from their shine. 00:12:11 Speaker 5: And I hate that. 00:12:12 Speaker 2: Charles Barkley Hall of Famer inside the NBA on ESPN, the uh, you guys talked about this last night. With Lebron playing in Cleveland, can you see a scenario where next year he's in Cleveland end his career. 00:12:27 Speaker 6: I think there's this only scenario. I think obviously the Lakers are done with him out for this year. They're gonna move into the Luca of Austin Reeves situation, which Rifle is. So I think his only logical play is going to be going back to Cleveland. Listen, I'm not opposed to him getting traded to Cleveland the next week doing the trade deadline because the East is up for grabs. East is one to percent up for grabs, and you can't tell me if Lebron went back to Cleveland right now, they wouldn't be the favorite in the East. 00:13:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, but what am I giving up to the Lakers? See, I'd rather sign him and not have to compensate the Lakers in the offseason. 00:13:15 Speaker 6: Well that's fair, But could you give up something to help the Lakers? They got an a bondus of big men in Cleveland between Jared Allen and Mobley. Could you give up one of those guys? I think your team would still be just as good. 00:13:33 Speaker 2: You think if the Lakers got Evan Mobley for Lebron they would be fun? 00:13:39 Speaker 6: Well, because this kid's gonna be a really good player for the next ten years. If they just lose Lebron, they don't get anything for him. It could be a win win for both teams because you know, you give me Evan Mobley, Luca and Austin Reeves going forward, my team is better. 00:13:56 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:13:57 Speaker 6: But also, man, I got zero idea. I mean, I know the Pistons are the favorite. I know the Pistons are the favorite. But you tell me this, if Lebron went back to Cleveland with Donovan, Mitchell Garland, Jared Allen, would. 00:14:14 Speaker 5: They be the favorites in the East? 00:14:16 Speaker 2: Be close? 00:14:17 Speaker 5: It'd be close. 00:14:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be close. 00:14:20 Speaker 6: Sometimes you got to roll the dice. You gotta roll the dice because the Lakers are not any good and the Cavs they probably would have favorite going into the season, but right now you see they're not. 00:14:32 Speaker 5: They're struggling. 00:14:33 Speaker 2: Let me get your thoughts on Giannis and now that he wants out reportedly once out Golden State. Seems like if I'm going to take another swing of trying to do something with Steph Curry in the next two years, why don't you got I think four first round draft picks. You could trade Kaminga and you could throw in somebody else. Maybe can you trade Jimmy Butler's contract? Like, can you make this work that Golden State would get honest? Or do you see him going elsewhere? 00:15:02 Speaker 5: Great question. I'm not sure to be honest with you. 00:15:07 Speaker 6: But if I'm, I take a big swing at Giannis. He's a terrific player, he's a terrific person. I take a swing. I take a swing at him. I really do. If i'm, if I'm any team, because he's gonna make you relevant because right now, Oklahoma City and Denver to me are the two favorite teams. No, I don't think anybody's in their class. Man, the East is so crazy. Then the Jason Tatum, the elephant in the room. Is he's gonna come back. That might make the Celtics a favorite. 00:15:43 Speaker 2: Yeah, but Milwaukee doesn't want to trade him in the East. 00:15:48 Speaker 5: No, I'm not saying that. 00:15:49 Speaker 6: I'm saying, first of all, they got to make the trade what's best for their team. 00:15:53 Speaker 5: You can't. 00:15:54 Speaker 6: You gotta do what's the best for your team going forward. You can't worry about if he stays in the East. Yeah, you got to make the best because you got to. You know, basketball is gonna be played this year, next year in the yf and you got to do It's like, let's say, hypothetically, the Celtics offered Jalen Brown for Jannis. Hell, yeah, you do that even if y'renis is at the same comforts. Jalen Brown is a hell of a player. 00:16:22 Speaker 2: Okay, but you. 00:16:25 Speaker 6: Can't you can't worry about you got to do like if we get Jalen Brown for the next ten years or I'm in Milwaukee, I'm like, okay, Like, but you can't worry about where he goes. 00:16:37 Speaker 5: You got to make the best deal for your franchise. 00:16:40 Speaker 2: How did you tell the Sixers you wanted out? 00:16:43 Speaker 6: I never got a chance. Man's really funny. I was on trial because I had punched that guy in Milwaukee. So I had spent a week on trial in Milwaukee. I was acquitted, acquitted, But what was crazy? We spent the week because it was a very It should have never went to trial, to be honest with you. Uh So the guys, me and my attorney had wrote a letter to the Sixers that we worked on all week because I didn't want to alienate the fans in Philly. So I got home. I got home Friday night from Milwaukee. I got acquitted in the afternoon, flew back to Philly, and I had made up my mind we were gonna send a letter Monday morning. It's really funny. I forgot that I had ordered to set a paying golf club. The was my front yard when I got back to Philly that Friday night. And then Sunday morning, I get a call from the Sixers and I got traded to Phoenix, and but we were gonna, uh send that letter Monday morning. So I yes, because I didn't want to alien the fans, because the fans of Philly had always treated me great. 00:18:02 Speaker 5: But I had had enough. 00:18:04 Speaker 6: I had went through three years agatt traded every week. 00:18:08 Speaker 2: But did the trial have something to that expedite them winning you out of town? 00:18:12 Speaker 5: No? No, because I was acquitted. 00:18:14 Speaker 2: Then, Oh I know, I know that, but I don't know if you know. 00:18:19 Speaker 6: The Sixers but just an idiotic organization. Back I mean, do we had the number one pick in the draft? I think my career would be totally different if the Sickers we had the number one pick in the draft had a taken Brad Dougherty, who who I loved as a player and had a hell of a career. If I'd have had Brad Dougherty for ten years. I think my career in Philly would be totally different. But they traded it the number one pick to Cleveland for Roy Hanson, who's a good dude. 00:18:51 Speaker 2: Is a good dude, but he's not. 00:18:54 Speaker 5: He's not Brad Dougherty's. 00:18:56 Speaker 6: It's really crazy, to be honest with you. They traded Moses in that same trade that nobody ever talked about. They traded Moses to the Bullets for Jeff Rulin, who I never got to play with. So after having the number one pick, I lose Moses, who end up playing like another three or four years. So I lost Moses, who was like my dad, who's the most important person in my basketball career. 00:19:22 Speaker 5: So I had to number. I went to bed with the number one pick. 00:19:26 Speaker 6: I woke up with Roy Hanson, good dude, And then they traded Modes for Jeff Ruler, guy I never even played with. 00:19:33 Speaker 5: That's how stupid the sisters were back then. 00:19:37 Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us. Good luck on Super Bowl Sunday. It's always you like Seattle, right, I'm gonna like with you, like, how's that too many people? I don't like to go When everybody said, oh, it's a no brainer, but you're the one putting up two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. I'm just putting up something even more priceless. My reputation. 00:20:00 Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you what. 00:20:01 Speaker 6: Sean McVay had me nervous because he had two chances to kick a field goal that would have covered the port spread. 00:20:08 Speaker 5: I'm so glad he went for that touchdown twice. Boy, I ain't gonna lie. 00:20:13 Speaker 2: Dan. 00:20:13 Speaker 7: I was sweating, brother, like, go for it. I'm screaming at the TV. Go for it, go for it, go for it, because if he kicks a field goal, they don't cover. And I'm like, wow, So that's gambling though, brother. 00:20:25 Speaker 2: Oh, I know, and that's why they call it gambling. Thank you, Chuck. 00:20:29 Speaker 5: All right, brother, thanks for having you guys. 00:20:30 Speaker 2: Be safe, Thank you, Bro. Charles Barkley, Hall of Famer inside the NBA. Take a break, run a little late back after this. 00:20:39 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio wap. 00:20:48 Speaker 8: Hey, it's Ben hosting a fifth hour with Ben Maller with Me and a lot to have you join us on our weekly auditory journey. You think around this time Kevin Stefanski, the Fountains head coach, joining us Ton. 00:21:27 Speaker 5: You sure will. 00:21:27 Speaker 2: All eight, We're set up for a meet Friday. We checked the Cavaliers would not be able to trade for Lebron during the season. It just doesn't line up mathematically. But that's where I said, at the end of this season, if he wants to play one more season, go to Cleveland, don't make money the issue and bookend your career. Therefore, they're not giving up players. I don't want to go to a team that's going to have to give up Evan Mobley and Garland or whoever you might throw in there at the end of the season. If he wants to go there, you don't strap the salary cap, you don't take away the young talent. Maybe, just maybe Cleveland becomes your city again instead of Donovan Mitchell's. Let's see eight seven seven three D eight P show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle a TP show. 00:22:20 Speaker 9: Yes, Marvin, all right, So if lebron goes to Cleveland, will Jalen Tyson be on the team next season? The guy that said is Donovan Mitchell city, not Lebron. 00:22:29 Speaker 2: No, that's Bronni's place there. Bronnie will take his place there. All works out. Yeah. The NFL has a new award. It's called the Protector of the Year Award. So you have all these offensive linemen who were up for it. Joe Tooney, Penny Sewell, Garrett Bowles, Creed, Humphrey. I always thought Creed. I think of the The Office, the guy Creed who Creed was in a band, Oh yeah, earlier in his career, the character on the Office. But I don't know the name of the band. 00:23:10 Speaker 10: Yes, Paulie, he was in a rock band called the grass Roots. Oh yeah, in the late seventies. Creed Bratton is his name. 00:23:16 Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, I had. I think I had a grassroots album. I think so, yes, PAULI so I thought this was a joke. This is a new award that was announced last May, the Protector of the Year Award to honor offensive lineman. Okay, that's pretty cool. Yeah, why didn't. 00:23:31 Speaker 10: They call it offensive Lineman of the Year award? 00:23:35 Speaker 2: Protector does something snappy? But how do they designate who's protecting? Because wouldn't I have a different grade for a center than I would have left tackle? 00:23:46 Speaker 5: Right? 00:23:47 Speaker 2: I don't know, Yes, Toun. 00:23:49 Speaker 11: Is there some deyodorant sponsor or something like on a car that protects your You gotta have some kind of reason to call it protector. 00:23:55 Speaker 2: How about simply safe? There you go, simply safe, home secure, you know what you're doing? Thank you, yes, Paul. 00:24:01 Speaker 10: Yeah, I got the press release here, and before this, offensive linemen weren't really eligible for any onfield awards. 00:24:08 Speaker 2: There you go, Okay, great? Uh? Nick and Irvine? Hi Nick, welcome back. 00:24:16 Speaker 12: Hey Dan, we're respecting to Hive about seventy six today. 00:24:19 Speaker 5: I'm gonna go hit some balls a little bit. 00:24:21 Speaker 12: But with that in mind, I am not happy with the return of Brooks Koepka. He took one hundred and sixty five million dollars over three years of Saudi blood money and then hides behind his family as an excuse to crawl back from that dog and pony show and doesn't give an apology to the fans, doesn't give an apology to the PGA tour. He tried to ruin the tour and they just let him back in. So bad look for the tour. 00:24:54 Speaker 2: Yeah, but then they shouldn't let him back in, Nick, I mean, I'm gonna put the blame on the PGA tour. Don't let him back in in. 00:25:01 Speaker 12: Yeah, I agree, don't let him back in. Ban them for life, or at the very least make him do what the other guys have to do. Go play on whatever the other tour of the Nike Tour or whatever it's called now and earn his way in. But it's just it's sickening to me the way they just open their arms. And by the way, all the other guys like Pat Perez and Phil Mickelson, they're not going to be allowed back in. They're like making a special exception, and I just don't like it. 00:25:28 Speaker 2: Well, no, Patrick Reid's coming back too. The two guys who are really going to benefit from all of this will be John Rahm and Bryson de Shambo because now you have some leverage here on the Live Tour. I mean, nobody cares about Dustin Johnson, but John Rahm and Bryce and De Shambo. And I saw where Deshambo might ask for a half a billion dollars. I mean, I I guess I can say, what do they care? But and then brooks Kepka is making his debut at the Farmers Insurance Tournament this this week. I wouldn't have them come back, but they you know, now they're trying to do what Live was trying to do to the PGA Tours. We're going to take these players back. Now they have to jump through some hoops. You know what they're eligible for, not eligible for paying money back. But I mean you're getting brooks Kepka, who's kind of limping back to the PGA Tour. I mean, Patrick Reid is coming. I don't know if anybody said we got to get Patrick Reid back, that might be one of those where the PGA Tour goes, you know what, once you reconsider and maybe stay on the Live Tour. 00:26:45 Speaker 10: Yes, Bully but every time one of these guys comes back, it's like another scoreboard that the PGA may have won this, and the Live Tour could be the life support Tour in a couple of years. 00:26:55 Speaker 2: All I know is the players won. If you go over for one hundred million dollars one hundred and fifty million, you play for a couple of years, and then you get to come back and you have to pony up what five million dollars, and you know you're not allowed to play in certain tournaments, whatever it might be. I'd be okay with that. I never would have gone in the first place. And you know I brought this up before because people say, oh, if they offered you that money, I, through a third party, was asked if I would be interested in helping them in hosting. I said no, No, I never asked the money. But you know, I got an idea of a person who did take the job with their getting paid. But I don't want to do that. I wouldn't want to do that if it was the PGA Tour and I'm going all the way around the world unless I'm retired, But to Live Tour, No, No, not interested. But they reached down to a lot of different people, you know, Berkley. They reached out to Chuck and I talked to him about it publicly privately. But yeah, they're coming back, and uh, I guess it's the PGA Tour's way of saying we're going to damage live tour. 00:28:10 Speaker 11: Yes, Ton, how I'm curious how should or will they be treated by fellow pg gofers when they come back, because I'd be pretty bitter if I was someone that was offered that opportunity, if I knew from the get go by the PGA. And I know these guys took a risk and didn't know, But if I knew, ultimately I can go get hundreds of millions of dollars and then ultimately I can come. 00:28:26 Speaker 2: Yet they didn't know that, Brooks Koepka. There there was no language where they go, hey, you can go, and then if you come back, we have kind of a re entry plan for you guys. 00:28:37 Speaker 11: And there's still got to be some jealsey of bitterness that they made all that money only to be allowed back. 00:28:41 Speaker 2: Yet I agree, I agree, although I would take Bryson to Shamba and John rom back, you know, and if you're a fan, you get to see them again, it's really about the PGA Tour players. How do they feel about it? And I mean to guess they probably voted on it and said, Okay, this is what you have to do, and then there were steps. There's steps Brooks Kapka is going to have to follow. Let's see Mike and Wisconsin. Hi, Mike, what's on your mind today? 00:29:09 Speaker 13: What up? 00:29:10 Speaker 5: Fellas? 00:29:10 Speaker 14: Thanks for the call. Hey, So you guys have pointed out most of what I wanted to weigh in on the Belichick situation. But I have to say that, Yeah, he's a Hall of Famer for sure with six rings, but I don't get the greatest coach of all time take because whole body of work without Tom Brady. He's eighty three and one oh four as an NFL head coach. I think what waters it down even more. The great next aspect is Brady leaving him behind and winning a championship in Tampa. And I can't speak for voters, but that would be a factor for me. 00:29:40 Speaker 2: Well, I think most of your great coaches had great players. Has anybody taking anything away from Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, right, Don Shula? He had Marino and Johnny Uniteds. I don't know. San Francisco. You got Montana and you had Jerry Rice and then he had Steve Young. Easy transition. Come on, look, we can pick and choose how we want to go after Belichick. And but you know, at the end of the day, he's a he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. Okay, you might not think he's the greatest coach. Okay, but still just say, well, he had Tom Brady. Okay, yes he did. And you know what he did. He found Tom Brady. He made a decision to put Tom Brady in there instead of Drew Bledsoe, who they'd just given a hundred million dollars too. He built a defense, Brady check the defenses that he played for. He always had a top fifteen defense. Who built that? Belichick? Tom took care of the offensive side of the ball and did a whole lot with a little He didn't have great players on offense, but Belichick always gave him a defense. Always. 00:31:06 Speaker 11: Yes, Todd, do Belichick haters honestly believe? And maybe it's true. I'm not one of those people that Brady and the Patriots offense would be. Every bit is good with some other coach other than Belichick. They do, they think they would have been every bit as good with some other anyone could do, like we say, Phil Jackson, with those players, I could have won championships two with the Bulls. 00:31:24 Speaker 2: What do you think. 00:31:26 Speaker 11: I don't think they'd be quite as good with another. 00:31:27 Speaker 9: Coach, Yes, Martin, And I feel like there's two different dynasties with the Patriots. The first three championships very heavy on the defense Richard Richard, seymour Ty Law, Teddy Bruski, Mike Rabel, where Tom was just kind of the game manager. But then the second three Super Bowls where Brady became MVP level quarterback Brady and then the defense was kind of complimentary. 00:31:50 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I just I mean, it's kind of amazing that we're at this point where we're still debating the greatness of Pill Belichick. Yes, Marv. 00:32:00 Speaker 9: Also, we should never call anybody a first Battle Hall of Famer ever again, Hey, Lebron, first Battle, hold the whoa, whoa whoa? 00:32:07 Speaker 10: Relax, Yeah, Pully, I checked a couple of things. In twenty years in New England, Tom Brady had a top ten defense seventeen times. 00:32:16 Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a very good team, full team. It wasn't just Hey, Tom's gonna outscore everybody. That might have been one year they tried to do that and they didn't win the Super Bowl, even though the defense did its part. People think that, you know that score against the Giants was like forty two to forty one. Well, was it seventeen to fourteen? Or I mean, come on, let's just be fair to the totality of the conversation here. You may not like Belichick, you may think he's a cheater. You may think Brady is the biggest reason why or Robert Kraft I understand all of that. At the end of the day, are we nitpicking any other coaches greatness historical? And it's not like he had two rings. Yeah. 00:33:08 Speaker 3: See Joe Montana had a top five defense in all but two of his seasons and he only got four rings. Yeah, overrated, But nobody brings it up. The offense really dragged them down. 00:33:19 Speaker 2: Nobody brings it up. Nobody brings it up. All right, uh Mario in California? Hey Mario, what's on your mind today? 00:33:56 Speaker 13: Hey, good morning, DP Fallas. 00:33:58 Speaker 14: How are you guys? 00:33:58 Speaker 2: Great? 00:34:00 Speaker 12: Awesome? 00:34:01 Speaker 13: So I got some amazing news last night. Found out I'm going to be a grandfather the first time, and so DT wanted great, so wanted to you know, get some you know advice. 00:34:21 Speaker 2: You just take them when you want them and give them back when you want them. My advice what you find is now I've said before, we had four kids under seven and I was working second shifts, so my wife did all the heavy lifting. But they have my son and his wife. They have two kids. One is uh seven months and one is turning three. The look on their faces when they see you when you show up to let them go out for dinner or if you're able to do that, do that as often as you can because and you don't say the following. We had four kids under seven and we were able to do it. Without any nanny like, you can't do any of that stuff now you're thinking it, but just make sure that you're always there as much as you can be there, and don't be afraid to spoil them. Adam in Michigan, Hi, Adam, what's on your mind today? And how's it gone? 00:35:19 Speaker 15: I got a dying dog, a fractured ankle, and a wonderful three year old running around and snowy Michigan. 00:35:27 Speaker 2: So I am not hitting any golf balls today. Wow. 00:35:31 Speaker 15: Yeah, I know a lot of impact, but I just want to talk about last night. Finally got to watch the NBA on ESPN. 00:35:38 Speaker 2: Still feels weird to say. 00:35:40 Speaker 15: I feel like the Mothership has been hiding that wonderful show from us, and I enjoyed the heck out of it, especially when Barkley called March Madness the Arizona invitation. I'll get a kick out of that. But I just wanted to dap up Marvin a little bit. As a former bartender, he used to close on Thursday nights with T and t on and then open up on Friday morning. We would let that charming marathon roll all day long. Nobody would turn to that stuff off, so I hear you a big guy. All right, Well, thank you, Adam. Do you want to explain charm Marathon? 00:36:10 Speaker 5: Yes. 00:36:10 Speaker 9: So during the NBA season, which my wife called Babe, are you coming to bed? Season, you wake up in the morning after going to bed and TNT is on, and you go to sleep the inside the NBA and you wake up the next morning and Charmed is on all morning long. Never saw an episode. Oh, I didn't hear a word. They said, Oh, you just watched Alyssa Milano. 00:36:30 Speaker 2: Oh okay, top five uh odds to win March Madness according to DraftKings, my Arizona Wildcats, and then it's Michigan Duke Houston and Conics. 00:36:43 Speaker 3: Sucker's taking that bet and easy money right. 00:36:45 Speaker 2: There, j and Delaware. Hi, Jay, what's on your mind? 00:36:51 Speaker 16: Hey, good morning day. Can you hear me light? 00:36:53 Speaker 6: Yes? 00:36:54 Speaker 16: I can, Jay, Okay, I'll just quick comment on on no Belichick and like everybody else, I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Even if SPA Gate's a thing. He had like two Hall of Fame careers after that. He was the architect of that team from beginning to the end. Like you said, defense has carried that team and probably has more Hall of Famers on the defense than he does the offense, and would have one Hall of Fame weapon besides Randy Moss, which is rough. And then yeah, he didn't take Tom Brady, so picked one down a nine, but he made that decision to keep Tom instead of Tom, instead of Bledsoe. So I just I don't think there's any excuse that anybody can come up with that. There isn't a report to chief him in now. 00:37:36 Speaker 2: And unless you're saying, okay, Bill's getting in, these guys this is their last chance. Now, I understand that. And I've said, if you tell me why you didn't vote for him or why you were voting for somebody else, Okay, like I might, I might say that your logic is flawed, but I also have to respect that you have earned right to vote. You don't get paid to be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and it's a thankless job. I respect if you're transparent about why you did or didn't. Yes, PAULI, it's a it feels like there's more to this, though. 00:38:17 Speaker 10: When you see that press release, I think there's gonna be someone's gonna get dinged. 00:38:21 Speaker 2: But when you look at the different Halls of Fame, first ballot, Hall of Famers. I don't know if it's a big deal to people like guy didn't even remember if Charles was the first ballot. I assumed he was. But the Basketball Hall of Fame is different. Baseball pretty tough, yeah, PAULI. 00:38:38 Speaker 10: This day in Sports History, nineteen thirty six Dan the first members of Baseball's Hall of Fame. This was the first ever class. They were Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christie Matheson, and Walter Johnson. 00:38:51 Speaker 2: Babe Ruth. 00:38:52 Speaker 10: There were two hundred and twenty six writers. Eleven didn't vote Babe Ruth in. 00:38:56 Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't thank he's you know, Garrick kind of carried him. Yeah. I would love to hear that meeting. Yeah, damn. 00:39:10 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:39:11 Speaker 2: You would think you would be unanimous. Babe would be unanimous. Ty Cobb, all of those playersimous. Yes, Tom, we do make Babe with. 00:39:23 Speaker 5: A little larger than life. 00:39:24 Speaker 11: With all these stories that he pointed to the fence or he's gonna hit the home run and Colls. 00:39:27 Speaker 2: Let's everybody relaxed. Wait, there was a good player. It was a really good player. Are you calling Babe Ruth overrated. 00:39:32 Speaker 11: I'm hinting at that. 00:39:33 Speaker 2: Wow, Keith and Chico. Hi, Keith, what's going on? 00:39:38 Speaker 11: Uh? 00:39:38 Speaker 14: Hey, Dan? 00:39:38 Speaker 17: I just had more on the Belichick stuff. 00:39:41 Speaker 12: When you talk think. 00:39:42 Speaker 17: About Andy Reid, most of his career has been put on the back of Patrick Mahomes, so I wonder if he's gonna be issuing for a first ballot. And second, you've got Bill Belichick, one of the most situationally aware guys. They were practicing that pick play all week leading up to that Super Bowl with Seattle, with Malcolm Butler and the and they sell them in to make that play. I just think he's such a genius and to not put him in is just such a crime. 00:40:05 Speaker 6: Man. 00:40:05 Speaker 2: Think Yeah, But I mean there's more to that than just I mean, he did what you want a coach to do. He would change from quarter to quarter. I remember that game against the Colts where they just ran the football. I mean, all you have to do is ask Brady and I don't know what their relationships like, but many spoke glowingly of Belichick. I never thought, like, when you're thinking of topics like this week, we're like, all right, well, we got a week before our Super Bowl week. What are we going to talk about? Man? Thank you, Thank you voters. Todd would you learn today? 00:40:44 Speaker 11: Cab Trouckey, Jalen Tyson may not agree, but one can comfortably say Cleveland. 00:40:47 Speaker 2: It's still Lebronstown, not Donovan Mitchell Seaton. Did you learn anything? 00:40:51 Speaker 5: I did? 00:40:51 Speaker 3: I learned Tom Brady would have had a much better career if he had a Hall of Fame coach, if. 00:40:56 Speaker 2: He had Andy Reid, Don. 00:40:58 Speaker 9: Shula, Charles Markleys Have, Roy Hinson, good dude. 00:41:04 Speaker 2: Not a great player though, uh Paul. 00:41:06 Speaker 10: Barkley's cleaning crew is present. 00:41:08 Speaker 2: What we learned brought to you by Dude Wipes, extra large flushable Dude Wipes switched to life changing because weather is better.
