<v Speaker 1>He'll be er, Gon'll be bad. It's the internet. You're busy. <v Speaker 1>Let's do this for March the six, twenty twenty five. <v Speaker 1>For the next hour or so, let me help you <v Speaker 1>sort through the world of gaming on Game mess Mornings <v Speaker 1>Live with me Jeff Grub. Today, more analysts think Grand <v Speaker 1>Theft Auto six could be one hundred dollars and Sega <v Speaker 1>was the top video game publisher last year. But first, <v Speaker 1>please join me and welcoming today's co host of Game <v Speaker 1>mes Mornings. It's jan A Shoa. Everybody, Jan How are <v Speaker 1>you doing? <v Speaker 2>I'm doing okay, I'm I think I mentioned last week <v Speaker 2>that I'm forming the wrong wrinkles in my brain, but <v Speaker 2>now I'm just like stretching the brain to its fullest extent. <v Speaker 2>And here we are, Grub. If people can see and <v Speaker 2>hear me and the stream, that's fine, that's good. <v Speaker 1>Smooth, moisturized brains thriving in its lane. Well, not most <v Speaker 1>of those things. But uh, are you introducing new wrinkles <v Speaker 1>in any way or is it all just kind of <v Speaker 1>being wrung out to dry. <v Speaker 2>We want wrinkles, right, wrinkles? I think we want wrinkles. <v Speaker 1>Yes? Do you want to interrod? Yes? Yeah, get wrinkles <v Speaker 1>back in that bad boy. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. It's like when you leave a shirt crumpled up <v Speaker 2>somewhere and then you put it on and it's like, ah, man, <v Speaker 2>I don't want to wear this, but there's too many wrinkles. <v Speaker 1>I you know what they say, you want wrinkles. I <v Speaker 1>just assume that that's right. I haven't really looked into <v Speaker 1>it too much. I don't know what that gets you, <v Speaker 1>what it does for you. Uh more neurons, more connection connectors, synapses. <v Speaker 1>These are things that go in the brain. <v Speaker 2>Let me tell you, grub there's tons of nooks and <v Speaker 2>crannies now to hide plenty of things in here or <v Speaker 2>forget things. <v Speaker 1>Uh huh yeah, that's maybe that's my problem. I got <v Speaker 1>too many extra folds and I put everything in there <v Speaker 1>and then I can't remember anything. Uh yeah, Jan you're hey, <v Speaker 1>you're in the studio VO booth things? <v Speaker 2>Yes, where are you? I am in the San Francisco office. <v Speaker 2>I'm in the VO booth among other places, because you know, <v Speaker 2>not quite a return to office order by thought. Coming <v Speaker 2>in more would help synergize with the game spot. Homies <v Speaker 2>also would help with some of the baton passing we're <v Speaker 2>doing so we're trying this out good. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, getting things set up, figuring out the best workflow. <v Speaker 1>That has definitely been the biggest obstacle we're facing right now. <v Speaker 1>Just you know, we're like, we want to do a <v Speaker 1>lot with a little, but we don't want to do <v Speaker 1>too much. But even doing like what we're doing right <v Speaker 1>now at this point, it's like, okay, yeah, that's great, <v Speaker 1>but we have definitely everyone's doing multiple jobs and especially you, <v Speaker 1>so figuring out the way to get this all as <v Speaker 1>efficient as possible has been the biggest headache for sure. <v Speaker 2>But cool. <v Speaker 1>Hey, I'll say, at the very least, the badon passing, <v Speaker 1>handing off to other people, going from one show to <v Speaker 1>the next has been a lot of fun. I've been <v Speaker 1>enjoying it, so that side's been worth it. Hopefully we <v Speaker 1>can make everything else makes sense. <v Speaker 2>Yes, for folks watching live right now, after today's news show, <v Speaker 2>Tam and Lucy will be playing split fiction, so stay tuned. <v Speaker 1>Yep, we're gonna hand over to them as soon as <v Speaker 1>we're done here today, everybody, or whenever they're ready, let's <v Speaker 1>explain what we do here in the meantime most weekdays, <v Speaker 1>I Jeff Grubb will help piece your gaming life back <v Speaker 1>together that includes breaking news and maybe even some of <v Speaker 1>our own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get <v Speaker 1>the input of a bona fide expert who will make <v Speaker 1>me look smart. If you are watching live on twitch welcome, <v Speaker 1>You can always listen to the show later on podcast <v Speaker 1>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the <v Speaker 1>RSS on giant bomb dot com. You can also catch <v Speaker 1>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with Let's start here with <v Speaker 1>the sweakt in one and two HD remaster reviews. It <v Speaker 1>has a subtitle, and Mike Manady gets mad if I <v Speaker 1>don't remember subtitles, so I'll read these gate Room and <v Speaker 1>dunean Unification Wars love nonsense RPG names. It's got an <v Speaker 1>eighty one on Open Critic, which I like to use <v Speaker 1>because it just combines all the platforms into one. We <v Speaker 1>don't have to get all that messy like I guess. <v Speaker 1>It has more reviews here eighty one on Metacritic, seventy <v Speaker 1>nine out of one hundred from Kerry Brunskill on PC Gamer, <v Speaker 1>who said these are decent enough remasters, but not the <v Speaker 1>outstanding ones that these RPGs deserved. Heidi Camps on Game <v Speaker 1>Spot basically said the same exact thing, that these are <v Speaker 1>good games, this remaster doesn't really do it. Justice gave <v Speaker 1>it a six out of ten, and then Alana Haggs <v Speaker 1>at Nintendo Life gave it an eight out of ten <v Speaker 1>and said, while not as future rich as some collections, <v Speaker 1>sweak it In one and two HD remastered Gate Run <v Speaker 1>and doun in Unification Wars proves that these RPGs have <v Speaker 1>largely stood the test of time. While the issues with <v Speaker 1>the remaster don't take away too much from the original games, <v Speaker 1>brilliances are brilliance. We think these classics deserve the very <v Speaker 1>best boasting, ambition, narrative stakes, and heartfelt in heart that <v Speaker 1>a few other RPGs of that time can muster sweak <v Speaker 1>it In, burns bright in its origins. And we hope <v Speaker 1>Konami sees just how important this series is to many <v Speaker 1>and makes a handful of tweaks. So yeah, hey, by nope, <v Speaker 1>fans have been looking forward to this for a while, <v Speaker 1>it's here. It is mostly like just serving up those <v Speaker 1>games in a state that is acceptable. It's kind of <v Speaker 1>how people are putting in, and then when everyone talks <v Speaker 1>about just the games themselves, they're like, yeah, these games <v Speaker 1>are still fantastic, especially sweak it Into. So yeah, any <v Speaker 1>interest from you in checking these out? <v Speaker 2>Greub, This specific JRPG series, along with Dragon Quest, has <v Speaker 2>kind of always eluded me. We sweek it In specifically eat. <v Speaker 2>I don't want to say it's been It feels like <v Speaker 2>it's been impenetrable, but it definitely feels like a JARPG <v Speaker 2>that I have to play alongside a guide of sorts. Sure, <v Speaker 2>but I'm definitely happy that Sweeking and fans are having <v Speaker 2>a new avenue to re check out sweak it In <v Speaker 2>one and two. Maybe I'll dip into this, I remember that. <v Speaker 2>Correct me if I'm wrong, Grub or the chat. Sweak <v Speaker 2>it Into a series where you can recruit like an <v Speaker 2>obscene amount of people and like you have a big <v Speaker 2>character pool to choose from. I think there was a <v Speaker 2>PS two game where you could recruit a duck. <v Speaker 1>That sounds right to me. Yes, that's so accurate. Yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 1>And I think that that is one of the appeals <v Speaker 1>of the game, of course, is that there are so <v Speaker 1>many great characters that people love and specifically hone in on. <v Speaker 1>I know Jason Schreyer is a huge fan of Sweaking In, <v Speaker 1>and he said somewhere, I think it was on Twitter. <v Speaker 1>Let me see I could find it real quick, Jason Sure. <v Speaker 1>He basically said that hey, this these are this is <v Speaker 1>a great way to play these games, that they have <v Speaker 1>made some significant improvements in his assessment, that mostly being <v Speaker 1>that the script has been reworked and updated and made <v Speaker 1>as good as it psibly can be, and then there's <v Speaker 1>some other stuff in there to improve the plane experience. <v Speaker 1>And you know, he's like number one Sweaking In two fan, <v Speaker 1>so I trust him on that. <v Speaker 2>This specific JERPG franchise is also where I started learning <v Speaker 2>that things aren't pronounced in my Western English brain. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>because I used to read it as suwey codin. <v Speaker 1>That's what Dan Record still says in our meetings. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>I'm getting used to it again. <v Speaker 2>But I don't think we've had like a big or <v Speaker 2>a decent JRPG yet this year, So I'm definitely curious <v Speaker 2>to check this out, especially if folks say two is <v Speaker 2>a good entry point for the series. <v Speaker 1>Right, Yeah, I think this is one where you could <v Speaker 1>just jump right into two and you'd be completely fine. <v Speaker 1>I think they're mostly disconnected for the most part. But yeah, hey, <v Speaker 1>good news though, if you do get into sweak it In, <v Speaker 1>there's more sweaking in common. They're making that mobile They're <v Speaker 1>making that mobile game that is apparently a free to <v Speaker 1>play gotcha game. As far as anyone can tell, boy <v Speaker 1>fans are like Jesus Christ, Konami you are. You're so <v Speaker 1>back in so many ways, and yet you're still doing <v Speaker 1>this stuff. This is the first new Sweakonding game quite <v Speaker 1>some time. But yeah, uh huh, it's happening. <v Speaker 2>I feel like I'm responsible for this, Greb. I think <v Speaker 2>on some program. I think on some program I had <v Speaker 2>thought and speculated about the future of JRPG party based <v Speaker 2>JRPGs being having a gotcha format and perhaps what if <v Speaker 2>the new Persona is that way. Well, instead of that, <v Speaker 2>we're getting a new sweakon In with that same formula. <v Speaker 1>Mm hmm yep, that's that's just what they do now. <v Speaker 1>Uh yeah. Jason Tryer on Blue Sky actually says, so <v Speaker 1>it's been a pleasure to play through the new remaster <v Speaker 1>of sweakon In one two, which comes out tomorrow. The <v Speaker 1>bugs are fixed, the entire script is reworked and it <v Speaker 1>looks gorgeous. Highly recommend So there you go. And I <v Speaker 1>think a lot of the middling scores of the you know, <v Speaker 1>it's got an eighty one on Open Critics that's really good, <v Speaker 1>But any of the scores that are below that just <v Speaker 1>tend to be saying we want even more from a <v Speaker 1>collection for a game series that we like as much <v Speaker 1>as this, So kind of no reason to avoid this one. <v Speaker 1>If you are looking for the best way to play <v Speaker 1>these games, sounds like this will deliver exactly that. <v Speaker 2>Excellent right. <v Speaker 1>Gears of War collection is apparently set for PS five <v Speaker 1>this year, with E Day releasing in twenty twenty six. <v Speaker 1>This is from Georgiang at GameSpot. This is according to <v Speaker 1>reports out there. A Gears of War collection is reportedly <v Speaker 1>going to be announced this summer with a PCPs five <v Speaker 1>and Xbox Series X and S release. Gears of War <v Speaker 1>E Day also reportedly is targeting a twenty six or <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six release window. <v Speaker 2>That's what I heard. <v Speaker 1>They were originally trying to get it out in twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty five, but right before announcing it, they're like, let's <v Speaker 1>take that date out of the trailer. Actually, it was <v Speaker 1>going to be in the first revealed trailer for E <v Speaker 1>Day because they started talking more like there's a good <v Speaker 1>chance this is actually going to be twenty twenty six, <v Speaker 1>so that lines up with what I've heard in the meantime, <v Speaker 1>though Gears of War collection could be coming. According to <v Speaker 1>leaker Extasist, this also goes back a long way to <v Speaker 1>special Nick over Xbox Era, he talked about this a <v Speaker 1>long time ago and got a lot of crap because <v Speaker 1>it hasn't happened yet. Well, it sounds like it is now. <v Speaker 1>While the exact games in the rumored collection are unknown, <v Speaker 1>it's likely going to be or it's likely going to <v Speaker 1>at least include the first three, although the spinoff Gears <v Speaker 1>of War Judgment could be a part of that package <v Speaker 1>as well. The leaker doesn't have any information about a <v Speaker 1>Nintendo switch to port Gears of War. E Day was <v Speaker 1>reportedly aiming for a twenty twenty five window, but now <v Speaker 1>it's apparently slipped into next year. One notable thing about <v Speaker 1>this is a part of this rumor, and multiple people <v Speaker 1>are saying this, including Jess Cordon. Shout us to Jazz <v Speaker 1>that this won't include any multiplayer this collection, then throw <v Speaker 1>E Day to the side e Day is not included <v Speaker 1>in that. The collection will just be the campaigns that <v Speaker 1>people can play through without any like, and it's not <v Speaker 1>going to be like, oh, it's just the multiplayer for <v Speaker 1>Gears of War or Gears of War two or Gears <v Speaker 1>of War three or some new mode that combines all <v Speaker 1>that stuff so people can play. It sounds like no, <v Speaker 1>no multiplayer at all. That's a little strange to me, <v Speaker 1>because you know me, I'm a huge Noubs fan, and <v Speaker 1>that's what I think of when I think of Gears <v Speaker 1>of War. <v Speaker 2>Yes, of course, the twenty twelve Sabrina Carpenter hit Yes <v Speaker 2>film Noubes. That feels like a very odd decision, grub <v Speaker 2>because some of my fondest memories with the Gears franchise <v Speaker 2>has been the multiplayer, specifically spending hours in the Hord <v Speaker 2>mode with friends on the three sixty R. <v Speaker 1>Right, did you have? Does this just mean no like <v Speaker 1>competitive multiplayer? Does it mean no Hord Mode? No, no <v Speaker 1>cooperative like like the games were made for cooperaive some soon, <v Speaker 1>I mean it will support that. In my head, I <v Speaker 1>read this as no competitive multiplayer, But you're right, maybe <v Speaker 1>no Hord mode as well. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, if that's the case that there's no competitive multiplayer. <v Speaker 2>That's completely fine with me because I could ever really <v Speaker 2>click in with that. But if this means we're losing <v Speaker 2>Hord mode, we're losing co op, that'd be really unfortunate <v Speaker 2>and feels like a weird misstep when you have such <v Speaker 2>a surefire thing as playing through a Gears of War <v Speaker 2>game with your friends on modern consoles. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think, I mean, let's assume that it's like <v Speaker 1>no multiplayer whatsoever. That is a little that's very strange. <v Speaker 1>I think. Actually, yeah, I kind of I can understand <v Speaker 1>no competitive multiplayer because my guest would be they don't <v Speaker 1>want a competing thing of kind of what happens with <v Speaker 1>Halo where everyone just always goes back to the master <v Speaker 1>Chief collection. And also the master Chief Collection was a <v Speaker 1>headache for them to get exactly right because people are <v Speaker 1>very well, people are very particular in what they want <v Speaker 1>from Halo multiplayer, and they messed up that game real <v Speaker 1>bad for a very long time. They probably just like <v Speaker 1>want to avoid that sort of scenario entirely and just say, hey, no, <v Speaker 1>we're going to make new multiplayer for eeday play that. <v Speaker 1>So by multiplayer again, I mean competitive multiplayer, sure, but yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think people will be able to we will miss <v Speaker 1>out on much of the joy of Gears of Gears <v Speaker 1>of War if it means no co op, and you <v Speaker 1>might be leaving out some of these new people you're <v Speaker 1>attracting by going to PlayStation if you don't include that. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>This otherwise, this feels like it makes a lot of <v Speaker 1>sense with E Day coming out here pretty soon. Get <v Speaker 1>everybody primed for that game by getting them back into <v Speaker 1>the story and caring about the lore. That makes sense. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, especially for folks that may never have checked out <v Speaker 2>the franchise because it was locked to the Xbox for <v Speaker 2>so long. People across the pond on PlayStation. I know, <v Speaker 2>I for sure have a couple of friends that never <v Speaker 2>checked out Gears because they never had an Xbox, But <v Speaker 2>I think they'd jump at the chance to play it <v Speaker 2>on a PlayStation. Five. It looks like folks are saying <v Speaker 2>that Jazz was reporting that no PvP okay, so no <v Speaker 2>verified yes, okay, so co op and possibly Horde which <v Speaker 2>feels like the right choice, okay. <v Speaker 1>For sure, and then Horde mode. I would think, what <v Speaker 1>does that really harm you to include a Hord mode? <v Speaker 1>Because the E Day could have a new, bigger Hord mode, <v Speaker 1>and actually I think that could continue like the momentum <v Speaker 1>of Horde mode. The comparison between old style multiplayer Gears <v Speaker 1>of War versus whatever the Day is going to do <v Speaker 1>is the thing they likely want to avoid and don't <v Speaker 1>want to have to support both at the same time. <v Speaker 1>So again that makes sense to me. <v Speaker 2>Do you think we're going to be able to reacquire <v Speaker 2>some of the older not cosmetics, but guest characters. I <v Speaker 2>know that the New Day or a pack at one point, <v Speaker 2>as well as my dear friend one Day Dave Bautista. <v Speaker 1>Yes, I think there's a chance for like Dave Batista, <v Speaker 1>like that one feels like maybe because I think you <v Speaker 1>could play as him in the campaign, right. I think <v Speaker 1>they made it work that way. I think a lot <v Speaker 1>of the other stuff was you know, made for multiplayer, <v Speaker 1>made for those kinds of skins, and so they won't <v Speaker 1>emphasize that. Not really, And again I think the focus <v Speaker 1>here is let's get people to care about the Gears <v Speaker 1>of War in universe so that we can go into <v Speaker 1>Day and have the best success possible. Yeah, And to <v Speaker 1>accomplish that, they probably don't want to have too many distractions, <v Speaker 1>including bringing back the New Day and other guest characters, <v Speaker 1>but some of that could happen for sure. <v Speaker 2>Just give me Dave please. <v Speaker 1>Yep, we just want we want that sweet boy. He's <v Speaker 1>a good man. I you know, I've played some Gears <v Speaker 1>of War. I could never really get into the campaigns personally. <v Speaker 1>I might give it another shot. We'll see. I just <v Speaker 1>I don't know what. It was too deliberate, too slow <v Speaker 1>for me at that time. Maybe my patient says it <v Speaker 1>hasn't improved. That's a lie, so that's not probably not <v Speaker 1>going to change, but who knows, Maybe this game will <v Speaker 1>click with me more now. <v Speaker 2>It was at least the first game in my mind <v Speaker 2>to have the good old walk and talk Yeah to <v Speaker 2>slik it down? Yeah, that and Batman. <v Speaker 1>Sure. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. I really enjoyed those campaigns, but mostly it was <v Speaker 2>because I was playing with a friend at least. So <v Speaker 2>if I can continue to do that, I think we'd <v Speaker 2>have a fantastic time. Grub, I'd love to play co <v Speaker 2>op Gears with you. <v Speaker 1>Okay, well, yeah, that could be a lot of fun. <v Speaker 1>I know that Dan and his sister did that over <v Speaker 1>the last year or so, and they played through a <v Speaker 1>bunch of those and yeah, they seemed like they had <v Speaker 1>a real good time. So yeah, I would love to <v Speaker 1>make that happen. And it looks like a do rag <v Speaker 1>grub Okay, yeah, I could be a gearsman. You look <v Speaker 1>at me. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, everybody. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, we're beefy boys here, timets exactly. Yeah, welcome to <v Speaker 1>the Beefy Boys. And we could all be yours been here. Okay, yep, <v Speaker 1>Gears of Work collection maybe PS five, probably this year, <v Speaker 1>if that's all happening. I actually wouldn't be surprised if <v Speaker 1>it comes to switch to as well, all right. Marvel <v Speaker 1>nineteen forty three voice actor hence at possible release date. <v Speaker 1>This is from George Yang at game Spot Marvel nineteen <v Speaker 1>forty three Rise of Hydra. It doesn't have an official <v Speaker 1>release date or even window yet beyond twenty twenty five, <v Speaker 1>but according to one of the game's voice actors, we <v Speaker 1>could be playing it by the end of this year. <v Speaker 1>The game's Black Panther voice actor, Carrie Peyton, told the <v Speaker 1>direct We're still working, but we're planning on twenty twenty five. <v Speaker 1>We're thinking like a Christmas situation. But I am so excited. Well, <v Speaker 1>the game seemingly already had a twenty twenty five release window. <v Speaker 1>Peyton's comments at least a narrowed down to potential launch month. Well, <v Speaker 1>December might be an odd time to release a game. <v Speaker 1>Some big ones have released during that month. Although I <v Speaker 1>wouldn't assume. But someone says they're going to release it <v Speaker 1>Christmas time, that to me means November. It means November, <v Speaker 1>maybe December, but honestly October November is much more likely <v Speaker 1>than December. Although of course it's not impossible. These games <v Speaker 1>have come out in games like this have come out <v Speaker 1>in December before. Yeah, hey that late in the year, <v Speaker 1>big game. The real real reason that they are probably like, hey, <v Speaker 1>we're considering that time of year is the same reason <v Speaker 1>everyone is considering, you know, a nebulous release date for <v Speaker 1>later this year, and that's Grand Theft Auto six. But <v Speaker 1>if Grand Theft Auto six comes out in you know, <v Speaker 1>a little bit earlier than that, this game probably will <v Speaker 1>not be shy about coming out November. I think that <v Speaker 1>may would make a ton of sense. This is not <v Speaker 1>going to collide too much, although of course Grand Theft <v Speaker 1>Aughto six is going to take a lot of the <v Speaker 1>oxygen out of the room. Where are you at with <v Speaker 1>your excitement for Marvel nineteen forty three, which, as a reminder, <v Speaker 1>was the the World War Two historically set Black Panther <v Speaker 1>Captain America game from Amy Hennig. This is Amy Hinnick's <v Speaker 1>Team Greb. <v Speaker 2>As I've documented all this website, Captain America is one <v Speaker 2>of my favorite superheroes. I'm very much excited for this, <v Speaker 2>especially when Carrie Payton was announced to play the Black <v Speaker 2>Panther in this game. For folks that don't know, Cary <v Speaker 2>Payton king Ezekiel in The Walking Dead as well as <v Speaker 2>the voice of Cyborg in the Teen Titans show. So <v Speaker 2>super excited about that. I have no clue what this <v Speaker 2>game is supposed to be like, so I'd like to <v Speaker 2>see some type of gameplay very very soon. But in <v Speaker 2>any case, Grub, I'm excited because I feel like Marvel <v Speaker 2>had a little bit of a dip with Captain America. <v Speaker 2>Brave New World not quite hitting, but Marvel can still <v Speaker 2>ride the juice from marvel Rivals, the new Daredevil show <v Speaker 2>that has been received pretty well, and I'm hearing rumblings <v Speaker 2>that Thunderbolts may also be a pretty neat movie, so <v Speaker 2>that Marvel's is really betting on and especially you know <v Speaker 2>Amy Hennig. I would really love to see what she <v Speaker 2>has been up to this past couple of years. And <v Speaker 2>I just hope that whatever Marvel Steam or Marvel Boom <v Speaker 2>is enough to push this game to the finish line, <v Speaker 2>because we other than this, I don't believe we've learned <v Speaker 2>any updates since like maybe the middle of last year <v Speaker 2>about this. <v Speaker 1>About this game specifically, you're saying, yeah, I don't can't <v Speaker 1>remember the last time we saw it. You know, there's <v Speaker 1>some games that like pop up in a lot of <v Speaker 1>these shows that we sit down and talk over. This <v Speaker 1>is not one of them. It has appeared in stuff, <v Speaker 1>But yeah, you're right, nothing's coming to mind immediately about like, oh, <v Speaker 1>that's when I learned all a whole bunch of more <v Speaker 1>new information about what Marvel nineteen forty three, which again <v Speaker 1>is that the yeah, Marvel nineteen forty three Rise of Hydra, <v Speaker 1>what that's all about? So you're right, I'm with you <v Speaker 1>where it's like my expectations for what this game is <v Speaker 1>going to be are still a little bit cloudy. Although yeah, <v Speaker 1>you know, I hear Amy Hennig making a game in <v Speaker 1>Unreal Engine five. Uh, and it's a big budget Marvel game. <v Speaker 1>My expectation is it's a character driven, narrative action game. Uh, <v Speaker 1>you know, similar to Uncharted. She made a lot of <v Speaker 1>Uncharted games. Why wouldn't she apply a lot of that <v Speaker 1>learning to this as well. But of course, you know <v Speaker 1>it's superhero, so you've got to have a little bit <v Speaker 1>more on top of that, and maybe that could distract <v Speaker 1>from just the Uncharted style gameplay. I don't know. You're right, <v Speaker 1>So we probably get more information about this over the summer. <v Speaker 1>You think if it is coming out late this year, <v Speaker 1>this feels like something that could be like Achille Summer <v Speaker 1>Summer Game Fest or something like that. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel like this could be further revealed during <v Speaker 2>Keey' summer birthday. Yeah, it feels like, given the pedigree <v Speaker 2>behind the game, it feels like, uh, something you could <v Speaker 2>lean part of a summer presentation on. <v Speaker 1>I think so too. I think it's the kind of <v Speaker 1>thing where especially Keeley would love to have it in <v Speaker 1>his show because you know, it does both things he <v Speaker 1>likes to have, which is, here's a big movie property <v Speaker 1>or movie character, and then here's a big game from <v Speaker 1>a big publisher. So yeah, and then also Amy Hennigg, <v Speaker 1>someone who's got some name recognition, so actually hits like <v Speaker 1>three categories Thatchlly likes to have for his announcements. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think you're right that this could be a keystone <v Speaker 1>in a showcase like that. In the meantime, Yeah, you know, <v Speaker 1>Marino said the game was announced in April twenty twenty two, <v Speaker 1>not that long for a turnaround, honestly. So I also wonder, like, <v Speaker 1>what is the scale of this game? Did they really <v Speaker 1>like like limit that so they could get this game <v Speaker 1>out in a reasonable amount of time. And if that's <v Speaker 1>the case, I'm like, okay, I'll send my expectations accordingly. Personally, <v Speaker 1>I mean, I don't know what fans are going to do, <v Speaker 1>but I'll be like, Okay, this thing's just like a <v Speaker 1>solid game that with a good story and some fun characters, <v Speaker 1>that has some like acceptable gameplay, you know, you know, <v Speaker 1>you know, I'm thinking of this Guardians of the Galaxy, <v Speaker 1>a game that I enjoyed playing and then just fell <v Speaker 1>them over the characters, so it put it over the <v Speaker 1>top for me. And if they can kind of nail that, <v Speaker 1>no complaints, right. <v Speaker 2>No, absolutely no complaint. If this is going to be <v Speaker 2>like a fairly lineared joint with some light exploration. I <v Speaker 2>have absolutely no problem. And if that means more of <v Speaker 2>the focus is perhaps on the story or the relationship <v Speaker 2>between Captain America and Black Panther, I'm all for it. Also, <v Speaker 2>grub give them the good state of the world. I <v Speaker 2>want any and every excuse to punch anything Nazi adjacent. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, especially like you know, you put Black Panther in <v Speaker 1>that situation, and like they can really speak to this, <v Speaker 1>they can really like offer an alternative of like, hey, <v Speaker 1>a better world as possible. Look at this character who's <v Speaker 1>meant to represent that next to or in conjunction with <v Speaker 1>him punching Nazis. And I'm all for that. And you know, <v Speaker 1>and Captain America, that's a good foil. They can bounce <v Speaker 1>off those ideas. And Captain America historically, as character is <v Speaker 1>always going to eventually like go over the line of Hey, <v Speaker 1>you know what, I'm completely on the side of the <v Speaker 1>people punching everyone as a solution to Nazis and all <v Speaker 1>this stuff. So yeah, I'm looking forward to that. And <v Speaker 1>you're right, maybe could deliver exactly what we need right now. Okay, <v Speaker 1>let's take a quick break when we come back. Is <v Speaker 1>GTA six really going to be one hundred dollars. Everyone <v Speaker 1>is saying, all right, as promised, right back into it. <v Speaker 1>Yet another analyst thinks GTA six could be one hundred dollars. <v Speaker 1>This one comes from Tom Ivan at VGC, who writes <v Speaker 1>Take two could be planning to sell Grand Theft Auto <v Speaker 1>six at an unprecedented price point of one hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>or more per copy. That's according to Michael Pactor, the <v Speaker 1>managing director of Equity research at with Webbush six Securities. <v Speaker 1>The analyst discussed Rockstar owner Take two's plans for the <v Speaker 1>blockbuster release in a research note distributed this week. He wrote, <v Speaker 1>we think the company has plans to sell the game <v Speaker 1>at a previously unheard of price point and suspect that <v Speaker 1>management can offer consumers an incentive to pay one hundred <v Speaker 1>dollars or more per unit by ward swarding them with <v Speaker 1>a large amount of endgame currency to be spent in <v Speaker 1>GTA online. There is a precedent for integrating an online <v Speaker 1>game experience with a premium game, as Activision did so <v Speaker 1>with both Call of Duty war Zone and Call Duty <v Speaker 1>Mobile content prior to the release of its annual Call <v Speaker 1>of Duty premium installment. Pactor continued. In Activision's case, the <v Speaker 1>integration led to a forty percent increase in sales of <v Speaker 1>Call Call Duty premium, and takes take tuescase, we think <v Speaker 1>a successful integration of gt Online and GTA six can <v Speaker 1>lead to a one hundred dollars price point for the <v Speaker 1>premium game. So yeah, as noted when I got into <v Speaker 1>this story, he's not the first analyst to say this. <v Speaker 1>Others have said that they are maybe expecting rock Star <v Speaker 1>and Take two to price it one hundred dollars, And <v Speaker 1>I think that, Like, we could stop here real quick, <v Speaker 1>jan and say, these analysts have reputation for getting a <v Speaker 1>lot of stuff wrong, and I don't. I wouldn't look <v Speaker 1>at this that way. This is does Rockstar in Take two? <v Speaker 1>Are they beginning to get the permission and sort of <v Speaker 1>the vibes of could they get away with charging more? <v Speaker 1>And that's clearly happening. Two analysts come out of there <v Speaker 1>getting headlines. Everyone's like, wait, what are you talking about. <v Speaker 1>The pushback is like, man, I hope they don't do that, <v Speaker 1>not that not, Oh they couldn't ever do that because <v Speaker 1>it's grand theft Auto six and everyone knows they could <v Speaker 1>do that if they charged one hundred dollars for this game. <v Speaker 1>What's gonna is it really not gonna sell jin Well. <v Speaker 2>It's definitely going to sell grub. It is just gonna <v Speaker 2>be a very tough pill for a lot of people <v Speaker 2>to swallow. That being said, there are people that aren't <v Speaker 2>plugged into like every big game release that just wait <v Speaker 2>for the one or two to hit a console a year, <v Speaker 2>and GTA six is one of those games. If we're <v Speaker 2>talking one hundred dollars, one hundred and twenty dollars for <v Speaker 2>a special edition that will get you all those goodies <v Speaker 2>you mentioned, for sure, go ahead do that, But for <v Speaker 2>the base edition of the game. I cannot imagine spending <v Speaker 2>or wanting to spend more than seventy dollars. I just <v Speaker 2>especially with how with how video game spending has been <v Speaker 2>on like a slow decline. I just don't know how <v Speaker 2>this helps the industry if the one game, the one <v Speaker 2>big game, base edition releases at one hundred dollars, because <v Speaker 2>in the build up to it, a lot of folks <v Speaker 2>are going to hold onto their money because money is <v Speaker 2>tight and they won't want to pick up any other game. <v Speaker 2>I don't think every single game that is coming out <v Speaker 2>can move the needle to start charging one hundred dollars, <v Speaker 2>because that is insane. I can't even a game that <v Speaker 2>I'm a big fan of. I don't think I've ever <v Speaker 2>bought a special edition series that release of the game <v Speaker 2>because I just don't want it. I don't need it. <v Speaker 2>I don't want to spend one hundred dollars. Now, if <v Speaker 2>that one hundred dollars does include like a bunch of <v Speaker 2>currency in the game, that I'll help you out. Maybe <v Speaker 2>you played a week early ahead of time. That's a <v Speaker 2>different story for some people, but I think for everyone, <v Speaker 2>everyone does not want this game to be one hundred <v Speaker 2>dollars because that also does open up the potential floodgates <v Speaker 2>grub like we've been talking about of all right, rock <v Speaker 2>Star can get away with this, who else is going <v Speaker 2>to try and get away with this movie? <v Speaker 1>Or like you know, at you know, walk up to <v Speaker 1>the line eighty dollars release for your gett instead like, hey, <v Speaker 1>that's still twenty dollars shooping in the granted bout of <v Speaker 1>six Come on, guys. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, that's that's the other aspect of it. <v Speaker 1>I yeah, I don't know with whether or not they'll <v Speaker 1>actually try to do this I think you're right about <v Speaker 1>I think it is a bad thing. I don't think <v Speaker 1>this is a solution. I think for analysts or like, hey, <v Speaker 1>this is where growth can come from, and it's like <v Speaker 1>the kind of growth of squeezing more blood from the <v Speaker 1>same stone, and it's it would be bad. <v Speaker 2>You're right. <v Speaker 1>It would hurt other games more than grandtub Thoto six <v Speaker 1>might already hurt other games by taking up the entire <v Speaker 1>of the spotlight, like through the end of this year <v Speaker 1>maybe or you know, the first half of next year. <v Speaker 1>And then if it's like also taking up more of <v Speaker 1>people's you know, discretionary spending. Uh, you know, you spend <v Speaker 1>one hundred dollars on that thing and it's got all <v Speaker 1>these modes. Maybe you wouldn't have played the online before, <v Speaker 1>but now it's like, God, I got to get my <v Speaker 1>money's worth, so I guess I'm going to use this <v Speaker 1>stuff in there, Like there's psychological reasons why that they <v Speaker 1>might want to do that, so that you do feel <v Speaker 1>exactly that way. I think that the the other side <v Speaker 1>of it of hey, can can they get away with this? <v Speaker 1>They can? I think they will probably recognize that they <v Speaker 1>don't need to get away with it to get a <v Speaker 1>lot of the benefits. It's what you said. There will <v Speaker 1>be an early access version that is one hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>that comes with it, like that comes with a bunch <v Speaker 1>of bonuses, and it'll look like a deal actually next <v Speaker 1>to the seven dollars version that will come out like <v Speaker 1>a week maybe maybe like two weeks later if they <v Speaker 1>want to like really like actually bring some money out <v Speaker 1>of that, but like a week later and it's like, Oh, <v Speaker 1>this comes with all this bone at all this bonus stuff, <v Speaker 1>and I get to play it early. So I got <v Speaker 1>to I don't have to have a few deal with Fomo. <v Speaker 1>I can pay the Fomo tax. That will sell like <v Speaker 1>what ten million copies at one hundred dollars, like probably <v Speaker 1>more than that, right, So they don't need to do <v Speaker 1>the price increase. They can say no, this game is <v Speaker 1>seventy dollars and still make one hundred dollars per copy <v Speaker 1>price for a good long while. <v Speaker 2>The thing that I'd like to push forward to all <v Speaker 2>these analysts is a thought that our own NICKI Grayson <v Speaker 2>has had of Hey, instead of making the one big profit, <v Speaker 2>what about we have the smaller profits of good stuff. <v Speaker 2>Isn't that also better of making money through several different things, <v Speaker 2>versus hedging all our bets on the one thing that <v Speaker 2>may or may not give us a good return. But <v Speaker 2>if Rockstar chooses to put it at one hundred dollars, <v Speaker 2>I hope and I wish it is for that instance <v Speaker 2>we're talking about grub that it is like you get <v Speaker 2>early access to that game two weeks ahead of time, <v Speaker 2>because people will definitely phoney up for the fomo tax yep. <v Speaker 1>I mean it's in the air though, right like this <v Speaker 1>idea that game prices could go up again here pretty <v Speaker 1>soon after going up to seventy dollars. It just feels <v Speaker 1>like it like if it's not like we're not putting <v Speaker 1>it out there. But I think also we are playing <v Speaker 1>into it a little bit. As I say, we as <v Speaker 1>people who buy games of a lot of the attention <v Speaker 1>just gets paid to the biggest games, and so if <v Speaker 1>they really are going to be that important to this medium, <v Speaker 1>they are going to feel like, well, maybe we should <v Speaker 1>get some more money and analysts out there talking this way. <v Speaker 1>And then with tariffs happening, there's just a lot of stuff. <v Speaker 1>There's a lot of pressures from multiple sides that could <v Speaker 1>like these companies will sit down and they will have <v Speaker 1>the conversation. We could raise the price right now, and <v Speaker 1>we probably could get away with it. This might be <v Speaker 1>an opportunity we don't want to miss, so maybe we <v Speaker 1>should increase the price. In that case, I wouldn't be <v Speaker 1>surprised if gas splits the difference, Jan goes to eighty <v Speaker 1>dollars for the base version and then still has one <v Speaker 1>hundred dollars or one hundred and twenty dollars early access version. <v Speaker 1>Like these companies can't help themselves at a certain point, <v Speaker 1>and I mean, I don't know what the sort of <v Speaker 1>antidote is to it, because the environment exists and all <v Speaker 1>these we're all operating inside of it, and none of <v Speaker 1>us can do anything to change the environment. And then <v Speaker 1>you're incentivized to exploit the environment, and that is that <v Speaker 1>would lead to them raising prices. <v Speaker 2>And there's also the possibility grub that GTA six does <v Speaker 2>ship this year, does ship in like the Fall sometime. <v Speaker 2>But it's also possible that it launches at one hundred <v Speaker 2>dollars one hundred and twenty dollars for the base edition <v Speaker 2>and it's broken. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, you're not wrong. There's there I mean, especially online, right, <v Speaker 1>I expect the campaign well, I mean, who knows, that <v Speaker 1>could also be broken, but you know, based on their <v Speaker 1>track record, I expect the campaign to be solid whatever, <v Speaker 1>but online could easily be very busted. And if you know, <v Speaker 1>you would have to tell yourself, I am getting both <v Speaker 1>of these things if you're gonna be spending that amount <v Speaker 1>of money, because otherwise it really does go down real bad. <v Speaker 1>So if one of one side or the other's broken, <v Speaker 1>it really will be a huge backlash. And so that <v Speaker 1>you're right, I think when they sit down and have <v Speaker 1>that conversation, hopefully there's someone in the room saying, look, <v Speaker 1>let's just keep some of that goodwill that we have <v Speaker 1>of putting out a massive game that people have been <v Speaker 1>looking forward to and delivering the tens out of the <v Speaker 1>ten out of tens that they hoped it would be, <v Speaker 1>and not say and now give us as much money <v Speaker 1>as you possibly can, because we know, first of all, <v Speaker 1>we're gonna make that money back on the back end <v Speaker 1>when we sell micro transactions in GTI online, So making <v Speaker 1>the entry point as friendly as possible there's some benefits <v Speaker 1>to that as well. But I just don't know if <v Speaker 1>companies are thinking that way right now. <v Speaker 2>Or I was gonna say, I think the thought has <v Speaker 2>entered their head and then quickly. <v Speaker 1>Exited yep, yep. I think you're like, it's the kind <v Speaker 1>of thing where they will pay lip service to maybe <v Speaker 1>and then be like, yeah, but look at this chart, <v Speaker 1>and look how much more money we will make if <v Speaker 1>this thing is basically just one hundred dollars for everybody <v Speaker 1>we'll see with with the again, with the way the <v Speaker 1>environment is and just the feeling in the air, it's <v Speaker 1>kind of hard to get my hopes up that this <v Speaker 1>thing will just be seventy dollars, But I hope it <v Speaker 1>doesn't go much more above that. All right, let's keep <v Speaker 1>going through the headlines. Xboxes latest system update for Xbox <v Speaker 1>insiders is removing their user profiles. This is from Chris <v Speaker 1>scoiing at VGC. Xbox Insiders in Alpha and Alpha skip <v Speaker 1>Ahead Tears are experiencing issues with the latest system update, <v Speaker 1>which unexpects unexpectedly resets consoles to factory settings, removes profiles, <v Speaker 1>and clear settings. Jan This happened to me last night, <v Speaker 1>and really it was my first time booting on my <v Speaker 1>Xbox in quite some time. Made the decision after I <v Speaker 1>like I was, I like, got the kids to bed <v Speaker 1>relatively relatively early, got everything kind of settled, and like, <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna sit down. I'll download some games. I was like, <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna download Forts the Horizon five. I'm in the <v Speaker 1>mood for a game where I just don't have to <v Speaker 1>think about anything, and that hit the spot when I <v Speaker 1>started playing that. By the way, holy crap, that game's owns. <v Speaker 1>It's so good. But I sat down to like also <v Speaker 1>install some of the TV apps because I was using <v Speaker 1>the Sony Bravia TV and it's just it is broken now. <v Speaker 1>It just does not work. It's you know, all the <v Speaker 1>TV apps on all my TVs are kind of like, <v Speaker 1>you know, lackluster but broken on this Sony TV. I'm like, <v Speaker 1>I have the Xbox. I know that's a good app experience. <v Speaker 1>I'll just install those. And I booted a thing up <v Speaker 1>and say, hey, set up your Xbox, get the app <v Speaker 1>out and set it up. Like, what the hell has <v Speaker 1>happened here? I just thought like, oh, I haven't used <v Speaker 1>this thing in a while. Something some of them bad happened, <v Speaker 1>you know, the power went out and reset something. It's like, no, <v Speaker 1>I think it actually was this bug. Because I remember <v Speaker 1>I joined the Alpha Insider Skip Ahead tier or whatever. <v Speaker 1>It is a while back to test something for work. <v Speaker 1>They're going to get this fixed up. This is just <v Speaker 1>for a small group of people. But yeah, if anyone <v Speaker 1>woke up today and you can try to get on <v Speaker 1>your Xbox and you got logged out, it seems like <v Speaker 1>this was this is the culprit, and Microsoft will have <v Speaker 1>a new update for you. But I think if you <v Speaker 1>just log back in, it worked for me fine after that, <v Speaker 1>and then you know what, jan those apps pretty good, <v Speaker 1>pretty good to just use Disney Plus on there and <v Speaker 1>start rewatching and or again, Oh it's real good. Oh <v Speaker 1>so soon, yep, like less than fifty days now. I'm <v Speaker 1>very excited. It's nice because it's like when it starts <v Speaker 1>on April twenty second and they're doing like the like <v Speaker 1>four weeks of three episodes each each of those weeks, <v Speaker 1>it'll be like it'll be right in May, which is <v Speaker 1>you know, the Star Wars month, that's when Star Wars <v Speaker 1>comes out. So very cool stuff. All right, prepare for <v Speaker 1>Discord to get way worse. All the good news today <v Speaker 1>This is from Ethan Gotcha Kotaku. Discord has become a <v Speaker 1>central artery for gaming. It's the default place for companies <v Speaker 1>to build communities around their games, and for people who <v Speaker 1>play them to out with one another, coordinate gaming sessions, <v Speaker 1>or just shoot the shit about whatever's going on in life. <v Speaker 1>It's one of the least crappy social media platforms out <v Speaker 1>there right now, but it might not stay that way <v Speaker 1>for long. The New York Times reports that Discords founders <v Speaker 1>are meeting with investment banking of bankers in preparation for <v Speaker 1>a possible IPO, which is initial public offering, as early <v Speaker 1>as this year. While plans can always change, what that <v Speaker 1>means right now is that the meeting place for two <v Speaker 1>hundred million monthly users, over ninety percent of whom use <v Speaker 1>it for gaming, is exploring going from a private company <v Speaker 1>to a public one ruled by the founding principle of <v Speaker 1>the stock market, which is Nomberg must go up. We <v Speaker 1>understand there's a lot of interest around Discord's future plans, <v Speaker 1>but we do not comment on rumors or speculation, set <v Speaker 1>a spokesperson to the New York Times. Our focus remains <v Speaker 1>on delivering the best possible experience for our users and <v Speaker 1>building a strong, sustainable business. People might not connect the dots. <v Speaker 1>I think most of our listeners probably do connect the <v Speaker 1>dots go in public and platform will get worse. Well, <v Speaker 1>you know, it's the story as old as time. Now, <v Speaker 1>where you have something that works, I remember, like the <v Speaker 1>one for me jan that I always think of is <v Speaker 1>Facebook's notifications. It's when I stopped using Facebook. Is the <v Speaker 1>notifications used to be here's someone interacting with something that <v Speaker 1>you did, and so here's a notification about that. Oh useful, wonderful, fantastic. <v Speaker 1>Then to keep people engaged, the notifications became here's some <v Speaker 1>bullshit happening anywhere on the website that we think will <v Speaker 1>either upset you or get you to fall down some <v Speaker 1>other rabbit hole, so we can keep you on the <v Speaker 1>website longer, so you can look at ads longer, and it's, oh, <v Speaker 1>you made this useful tool deliberately worse so that I <v Speaker 1>will use your website more, and that that you know, <v Speaker 1>there's a word for that term in shittification. It happens <v Speaker 1>to everything. And now the concern here will be this <v Speaker 1>happens to discord. It is you know, late stage capitalism. <v Speaker 1>It is freedman capitalism of just get as much return <v Speaker 1>as you possibly can, as opposed to the original Adam <v Speaker 1>Smith's style of capitalism, of hey, selfishly make the best <v Speaker 1>product you can so you can out compete the other competitors, <v Speaker 1>and so people will choose your product. That's not how <v Speaker 1>it works anymore. This is why the whole system is broken. <v Speaker 1>And now Discord will likely fall down this rabbit hole <v Speaker 1>because it's unavoidable. Like, once you owe the investors, you <v Speaker 1>have to get more money from the thing you're doing. <v Speaker 1>And it's hard to imagine a world where Discord doesn't <v Speaker 1>begin to fall apart at the seams. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I can easily see people. I can just see <v Speaker 2>ads all over the place, scrub where Hey, before you <v Speaker 2>join this video caller, this voice channel, you got to <v Speaker 2>listen to this five second ad about brawny paper towels. <v Speaker 1>And how do they get you to look at ads? <v Speaker 1>They will probably have a TikTok style video feed for <v Speaker 1>some goddamn reason, just like every other social media platform <v Speaker 1>has and clear for frigging Twitch, Yes, and Amazon. <v Speaker 2>That Twitch update still baffles me why it was implemented <v Speaker 2>and why it's thought of as a good idea for discovery. <v Speaker 2>It does the opposite. It gets me to close the <v Speaker 2>app on my phone. Yep, it frustrates me, but yeah, like, <v Speaker 2>it's terrible because us a giant bomb. We use Discord <v Speaker 2>a lot. Discord is a central component to a lot <v Speaker 2>of our production, and Jesus, if it starts getting enhitified <v Speaker 2>like you said, Grub and in some of the ways <v Speaker 2>you presented and some of the ways we're thinking, a <v Speaker 2>lot of people are just gonna abandon it, like it <v Speaker 2>is so useful in terms of like it is so <v Speaker 2>useful because voice, video quality, sharing, gameplay, very streamlined, and <v Speaker 2>just sometimes no matter how many systems, how many virtual <v Speaker 2>cables and shoot cables you have plugged into a system, generally, <v Speaker 2>Discord will figure it out and do it for you. <v Speaker 2>Now I'm just seeing, like, hey, all that support we had, <v Speaker 2>We're gonna kind of slow down on that because we <v Speaker 2>got to get these banner ads for every new channel <v Speaker 2>you pop into, or gosh, anytime you switch to a <v Speaker 2>different Discord server, perhaps you get served with like a <v Speaker 2>little pop up ad that you have to click away from. <v Speaker 2>Oh god, Grub, it's terrible. I suggest we all go <v Speaker 2>to the leading social media app one, Google Doc. <v Speaker 1>YEP. I was searching on Google that's the other day, <v Speaker 1>and I saw doc the Google Doc platform the other <v Speaker 1>day that we created and that was funny. I yeah, <v Speaker 1>it's hard to imagine the ways and which will get <v Speaker 1>worse because it's like, that's not how our brains are wired, right, <v Speaker 1>It's like, oh, this isn't the problem. I would improve this. <v Speaker 1>This is how we think about stuff, and then to <v Speaker 1>mutate that and it's like, okay, how can we put <v Speaker 1>up friction and roadblocks. I remember a term from the <v Speaker 1>early days of freedom play mobile gaming. It was fun pain, <v Speaker 1>fun pain, and it was this idea of put some <v Speaker 1>pain in the fun so people will either enjoy overcoming <v Speaker 1>it maybe or pay to avoid it. And that is <v Speaker 1>the design ethos of the entirety of the free to <v Speaker 1>the free web now, because these corporations own so much <v Speaker 1>of it. It is truly truly devastating that this is <v Speaker 1>what happened to this amazing tool. And I mean, hey, <v Speaker 1>if we have like an open source alternative, that would <v Speaker 1>be great, that'd be fantastic, but it is hard to <v Speaker 1>compete in that space, or people's time is probably not <v Speaker 1>worth it because they're like, hey, there's other open source <v Speaker 1>things that need tending. There's only so many minds like <v Speaker 1>that that can spend their time working on projects and <v Speaker 1>they're all working on other stuff, mostly trying to get <v Speaker 1>backwards or trying to reverse engineer Xbox games right now. <v Speaker 1>But I want them to do that. So yeah, it's <v Speaker 1>a shame. The Discord was the solution into a lot <v Speaker 1>of problems for a very long time. I bet in <v Speaker 1>five years we will be looking for the solution to <v Speaker 1>the Discord problem because it went public. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel like these corporations listened to too much. <v Speaker 2>Imagine dragons, because folks, I am not a sucker for pain. <v Speaker 2>I don't want that. I would like less friction. <v Speaker 1>Discord will probably do fine on the stock market. I <v Speaker 1>guess it's the other side of the story. It's got <v Speaker 1>a lot of users, so who knows. I mean, impossible <v Speaker 1>to predict. I'm not telling you to go invest. Don't <v Speaker 1>do that. Also, don't invest when it goes public. That's <v Speaker 1>just for suckers. Usually you don't have the option to. <v Speaker 1>But if you do it, because it'll go up initially, <v Speaker 1>but really it's just the people who were in before <v Speaker 1>all that that will make the money and then it'll <v Speaker 1>dive down for a while. Okay, let's get through a <v Speaker 1>couple other stories here. AMD Radion RX ninety seventy and <v Speaker 1>ninety seventy X two reviews came in this week. It <v Speaker 1>is doing pretty good for that sort of high mid <v Speaker 1>range range of the GPU spectrum. AMD's Radion RX ninety <v Speaker 1>seventy ninety seventy XT graphics cards offer strong fourteen forty <v Speaker 1>P and four K gaming performance, often outperforming in videos <v Speaker 1>RTX fifty seventy and competing with the fifty seventy TI <v Speaker 1>in rasterized benchmarks. They improve upon previous AMD cards in <v Speaker 1>ray tracing, power efficiency, and upscaling. FSR four is much <v Speaker 1>better than previous fsrs and really the improved rate tracing <v Speaker 1>there is notable because AMD has really lacked there. So <v Speaker 1>it's reached a point where I think people are beginning <v Speaker 1>to described it as hey, no rate tracing on AMD is <v Speaker 1>a real thing now with these cards now, the issue <v Speaker 1>is still not anywhere close to how the rate tracing <v Speaker 1>really works on Nvidia, and the upscaling of FSR also <v Speaker 1>not up to par with dlss now FSR is and <v Speaker 1>most more things. Although fs R four might be more <v Speaker 1>limited again going forward, it's yet to be seen. That said, <v Speaker 1>these cards are are five point fifty and six hundred <v Speaker 1>dollars or yeah, yeah, yeah, five fifty and six hundred <v Speaker 1>dollars respectively. And to offer a alternative at that price <v Speaker 1>point to Nvidia is crucial because in Vidia, we see <v Speaker 1>what happens with them on the high end with the <v Speaker 1>fifty eighty and then the fifty ninety, and for in <v Speaker 1>different ways, the fifty eighty being kind of disappointing, the <v Speaker 1>fifty ninety being two thousand dollars. There's just no competition <v Speaker 1>of sort of rain Nvidia in there. This at the <v Speaker 1>very least feels like real competition and is a completely <v Speaker 1>acceptable alternative to Nvidia. It's just if someone asks me, <v Speaker 1>what do you get, it's like, well, if money, if <v Speaker 1>you have a little bit money, that the features on <v Speaker 1>the Nvidia cards are still better. But it is getting <v Speaker 1>to a point where I don't know if that is <v Speaker 1>enough to be like, well, go get the Nvidia card, <v Speaker 1>especially when I bet the price on, like there's the <v Speaker 1>real war price, and then there's the price that they <v Speaker 1>say that these things are going to cost with Nvidia <v Speaker 1>really balloons. It's probably going to balloon here for AMD <v Speaker 1>as well, where you're probably gonna struggle to find the <v Speaker 1>ninety seventy for five hundred and fifty dollars, but I <v Speaker 1>bet you'll be able to find it at a price <v Speaker 1>that still makes more sense than the Nvidia stuff. So <v Speaker 1>there are the push and pull here, there's give and take. <v Speaker 1>I think the real bottom line here, Jan is if <v Speaker 1>someone's looking for a graphics card right now this and <v Speaker 1>you can find one of these, If you get one, <v Speaker 1>there's no reason to have regret. This will be more <v Speaker 1>than acceptable. It's going to be a very good card. Greg. <v Speaker 2>Where would you suggest someone a layman, someone new to <v Speaker 2>PC parts and everything go to learn about any of <v Speaker 2>this stuff Because I'm able to understand and parse out <v Speaker 2>most of what you're saying, but some of it just. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's right. So I think if people want to <v Speaker 1>get like the crash course, the best place is Digital <v Speaker 1>Foundry when they do their reviews, because they know who <v Speaker 1>they're talking to, they're usually and they have a I <v Speaker 1>think they're well practiced at having the conversation. There's a <v Speaker 1>million you two channels that cover PC hardware, and I'm <v Speaker 1>usually of the opinion that they are too in the <v Speaker 1>weeds and they are too dedicated to just the raw <v Speaker 1>numbers that they forget what it's like to be like <v Speaker 1>in the real world using these things as a real <v Speaker 1>person a lot of times. But if you just want <v Speaker 1>a lot of raw numbers, there are there's plenty of <v Speaker 1>places to get like the raw numbers, and they will <v Speaker 1>explain stuff, they will make sure that you mostly understand <v Speaker 1>what's happening there. But I like, you know, if you're curious, <v Speaker 1>like the PC Perspective podcast and the full nerd podcast <v Speaker 1>from PC World, those are pretty good, pretty solid stuff. <v Speaker 2>This is why I always enjoyed those early GB videos <v Speaker 2>of Brad building a PC because I wasn't quite able <v Speaker 2>to understand everything that he was talking about. Oh, but <v Speaker 2>I was able to like, Okay, well that's how you <v Speaker 2>connect that. I guess I need one of those and <v Speaker 2>I need that too, Okay, all right, cool, thanks Brad. <v Speaker 1>Yep, the yeah. Bottom line, like a sea says here, <v Speaker 1>in Layman's terms, this is this is probably better in VIDI. <v Speaker 1>He says, it's better in video. It's probably better than nvidio. <v Speaker 1>If your budget is six hundred dollars ish. The reality <v Speaker 1>there is you're going to struggle to find the six <v Speaker 1>hundred dollars in video card for six hundred dollars, and <v Speaker 1>then you know a lot of the stuff that used <v Speaker 1>to really put in VideA ahead, like the encoding. Like <v Speaker 1>encoding was much better on Nvidia for a very long time, <v Speaker 1>a long time. Envy encoder has been very good, excellent <v Speaker 1>to what we use for a lot of our stuff <v Speaker 1>when we're encoding stuff at Giant Bomb. It's what I <v Speaker 1>use all the time. It's what you should be using <v Speaker 1>if you have an Nvidia card. The AMD answer to <v Speaker 1>that was always a little bit disappointing. Now it's not. <v Speaker 1>Now it's good. So that's like okay, one checkbox where <v Speaker 1>it's like the other. You're not missing anything if you <v Speaker 1>go to AMD. The ray tracing mostly being solved for <v Speaker 1>AMD is also pretty good. But now a lot of <v Speaker 1>people still are not turning ray tracing on because they <v Speaker 1>spent six hundred dollars on a card. They don't want <v Speaker 1>to see thirty frames per second. They want to still <v Speaker 1>get sixty frames per second. But you know, with the upscaling, <v Speaker 1>your probably be able to get that now with an <v Speaker 1>AMD card. I think the general's consensus here is if <v Speaker 1>you are looking for something in this range, AMD probably <v Speaker 1>is the right answer. I tend to agree with that, <v Speaker 1>all right, last thing I have here, Yes, Metacritics fifteenth <v Speaker 1>annual Game publisher rankings came out. Jan have you looked <v Speaker 1>at this? <v Speaker 2>No? I haven't gone the chance to look at it yet. <v Speaker 1>Okay, well, then in that case, who do you think <v Speaker 1>was the number one publisher according to Metacritic from twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty four. It is. It is a big name, but <v Speaker 1>it's not one of the big three console manufacturers. I'll <v Speaker 1>give you that much. <v Speaker 2>Is it Epic, It's not Epic. <v Speaker 1>So these are the way that Metacritic would rank. This <v Speaker 1>is on number of new games released and then their <v Speaker 1>Metacritics score. <v Speaker 2>Ooh, okay, I don't think is it hmmm? Is it Sega? <v Speaker 1>It is Sega, It is the Sega corporation. Well done, Janetchoa. <v Speaker 1>Sega had three you know, quote unch quote great games <v Speaker 1>as rated by Metacritics review aggregation method methodology, and then <v Speaker 1>it had twenty nine products released, eighty six percent of <v Speaker 1>which were good, zero percent of which were bad. And <v Speaker 1>again these are like, if you have a certain score, <v Speaker 1>you go into these categories. Number two was Capcom, which <v Speaker 1>had zero like quote unquote great games, but one hundred <v Speaker 1>percent good and zero percent bad. So and then had <v Speaker 1>twenty five products so Sega released a few more games <v Speaker 1>and then had more games that were just unqualified massive successes, <v Speaker 1>and those were things like Metaphor Refontasio, right, that really <v Speaker 1>helped put them over the top. I think they also <v Speaker 1>had Persona three reloaded? Was that last year? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, oh yeah. <v Speaker 1>That The combination of just like putting out banger after <v Speaker 1>banger from them really helped put them over the top. <v Speaker 1>So other games or excuse me, other game publishers in <v Speaker 1>the top ten, I'll move up from ten this time. <v Speaker 1>Ten was Ana Purna Interactive. Number nine was Microsoft, which <v Speaker 1>had one great game seventy seven percent good games versus <v Speaker 1>zero percent bad games. Number eight was raw Fury. Number <v Speaker 1>six This is a tie for number six. So there's <v Speaker 1>number number seven, Square Enix and Gamera Games. What does <v Speaker 1>Gamera games do? Shogun Showdown in open world, puzzle adventure, <v Speaker 1>Aisles of Sea and Sky, right, okay? Interesting? Number five <v Speaker 1>was Focused entertainment. The Big helped out big time there <v Speaker 1>by Warhammer forty K, Space Marine two. I'll put them <v Speaker 1>over the top. Number four Sony Astrobot was a huge <v Speaker 1>part of that. But I think they also had they <v Speaker 1>benefited from the Last of Us Part two remastered, and <v Speaker 1>then number three is Axis Games. Who was whose best <v Speaker 1>game from twenty twenty four was Spirit Hunter Death Mark two. <v Speaker 1>On the Switch they had five games which were good, <v Speaker 1>So well done? All right, poll question, let's get to that. <v Speaker 1>I have that over here. Let me go refresh the screen, <v Speaker 1>make sure that I have the most recent, up to <v Speaker 1>date information. This is from yesterday. Which style of Tony <v Speaker 1>Hawk do you prefer? Do you prefer time limited two <v Speaker 1>minute sessions like Tony Oaks pro Skater three or open <v Speaker 1>with no time limit like Tonyaks pro Skater four. I <v Speaker 1>do prefer two minutes. I'm gonna vote for that. And <v Speaker 1>I only have forty three percent of the audience with <v Speaker 1>me fifty seven percent open with no time limit, So <v Speaker 1>maybe that is going to be a problem for this game. <v Speaker 1>Where the word is that the way that it's phrased <v Speaker 1>from Activision that Tonyaks pro Skater four will be streamlined <v Speaker 1>and reworked to include the two minute time limit, just <v Speaker 1>like Tonyaks pro Skater three, and you know one plus <v Speaker 1>two I can't remember. How did you feel about this? <v Speaker 2>Jan? I'm of the mindset that two minutes is the <v Speaker 2>right call. I guess I mostly don't remember four well <v Speaker 2>at all then, because I forgot that it abandoned the <v Speaker 2>two minute. <v Speaker 1>You know, it wasn't fully like a thug game, but <v Speaker 1>it was the in between. <v Speaker 2>Right, I don't know. Two minutes just feels good because <v Speaker 2>then it kind of just you. It makes you learn <v Speaker 2>the level very fast because then you're like hopping and <v Speaker 2>bopping to the specific spots to get five of whatever <v Speaker 2>or the skate letters or the secret tape. And also <v Speaker 2>it just felt like a nice rush to try and <v Speaker 2>get your top score within two minutes. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, I always preferred that because for me, it <v Speaker 1>was always about getting the score that was the key thing, <v Speaker 1>and then having all the other stuff around there. While <v Speaker 1>I was discovering the best line to maximize my score multiplier, <v Speaker 1>I would discover things. I'd see them like I don't <v Speaker 1>kind of add them to the brain, but all right, <v Speaker 1>now i'll do a run here while I'll try to <v Speaker 1>get all that stuff now that I've discovered enough of <v Speaker 1>the level. And I was kind of just doing that <v Speaker 1>and burst in two minutes, and that always really worked <v Speaker 1>for me. And also I was like, you know, constantly <v Speaker 1>restarting that game, like you know, I bail once but okay, restart, restart, <v Speaker 1>restart and going right back into the two minute flow <v Speaker 1>of that was always felt good. But I also really <v Speaker 1>fell in love with American skate Land the DS and <v Speaker 1>that one I think was open and you're just kind <v Speaker 1>of exploring both styles can work. I do wonder if <v Speaker 1>when people in fans of Tony Ooks pro Skater are <v Speaker 1>for get their hands on, if they'll be really annoyed <v Speaker 1>that it's changed because they want it to be that <v Speaker 1>free skate style. Now, free skate's still an option in there, <v Speaker 1>but people like to do the missions and without a <v Speaker 1>time limit as well. So we'll see that was you know, <v Speaker 1>almost two thousand people voted on that, so pretty good response. <v Speaker 1>We'll see it. We'll see how if this actually hurts <v Speaker 1>the game when it's out. All right, got a new <v Speaker 1>poll question we'll get to here in a second. Before <v Speaker 1>we do that, jam, let's just talk it out. We're <v Speaker 1>on Giant Bomb. What's h what what got happening? <v Speaker 2>Yes, if you were watching live, please stay tuned. Tim <v Speaker 2>and Lucy are going to start playing split fiction a <v Speaker 2>little bit after we wrap over here, and then as <v Speaker 2>soon as those two rap we will all get on <v Speaker 2>board the voicemail dump Truck later today. Also tomorrow we're <v Speaker 2>going to have another episode of game Miss Mornings soon <v Speaker 2>to be renamed, as well as the power Bomb cast <v Speaker 2>a upf and then GameSpot after dark, full full days grub. <v Speaker 1>Yep. That's right. It's been good so far in terms <v Speaker 1>of just the way I think the content actually is <v Speaker 1>presenting on screen, in the way that one thing flows <v Speaker 1>into the next. People have been launching everything. It's nice <v Speaker 1>to see. Thanks for hanging out with us everybody. <v Speaker 2>Also, folks, I know there are some reservations if you <v Speaker 2>can't go and watch most of the stuff live. It <v Speaker 2>will just take a couple a little bit of time <v Speaker 2>to get the vas posted afterwards, mostly just because just <v Speaker 2>tightening everything up, cleaning everything up, and then uploading it <v Speaker 2>does take a little bit of manpower and time. So <v Speaker 2>a little bit of patience please, But most, if not <v Speaker 2>everything will get posted to the Giant Bomb YouTube, GameSpot <v Speaker 2>YouTube will have some cut down stuff as well, yep. <v Speaker 1>And so that's all part of the Hey, we're figuring <v Speaker 1>out the process for all this stuff that continues to <v Speaker 1>be the headache here, and we'll figure it out all right. <v Speaker 1>New Pole question, do you use discord yes or no. <v Speaker 1>I just want to see how many people this is <v Speaker 1>going to affect. If it goes bad, we'll figure it <v Speaker 1>out together everybody. We'll get the results of that poll <v Speaker 1>on Games Morning's here on Giant Bomb. Tomorrow we will <v Speaker 1>have a show. I believe Tam will be back, hang <v Speaker 1>out with him, talk about this and more in the <v Speaker 1>meantime anything else we have happening. Actually, Jen, I'm just <v Speaker 1>realizing I don't think I'm gonna be able to voicemail <v Speaker 1>doum truck today. You think we can find somebody who saying. <v Speaker 2>Well, Nicky Grayson, if you're listening that game hop on board. <v Speaker 1>We need you. I think I have a parent teacher <v Speaker 1>conference I got to go to today, all right, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>that's how it goes. Jana Chhow thank you so much <v Speaker 1>for hanging out with me today and talk about video games. Man, <v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>It's the only way to start a Thursday grub. <v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. You are the <v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one, <v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye.
