<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game mess Bornings with me Mike Manatti,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for
<v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking about
<v Speaker 1>a potential new lego set featuring another classic game console
<v Speaker 1>and how Pacopia is helping raise the Tondo Stalk. Wow,
<v Speaker 1>it's gonna be a good one because we have Ajmnatti
<v Speaker 1>on the show. Aj how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>You say this is good because I'm here, is like
<v Speaker 2>the nicest thing you've ever said to me.
<v Speaker 3>Well, just reading a script.
<v Speaker 2>Sorry.
<v Speaker 1>He says that about all of them. They're all gonna
<v Speaker 1>be good because of the guests.
<v Speaker 2>Even so, there's bad ones, is what you're saying.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Yeah, it's nice to see you.
<v Speaker 1>We were hanging out yesterday for Mario Day at our
<v Speaker 1>local favorite brewery, bird Fish. There was a band playing
<v Speaker 1>some classic video game songs. They had a special Barley
<v Speaker 1>Mushroom Want beer that was very strong but a good time.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>We have fun, right, oh, very much.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's the third time they've done it now, so
<v Speaker 2>it's very Mario three theme this year, and it was
<v Speaker 2>a great time.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you're pastor, I got well it's more of like
<v Speaker 1>a steel signed thing that it's. Yeah, it's it has
<v Speaker 1>like their logo and it's Mario three map looking. I
<v Speaker 1>feel like I don't deserve it because I recently talked
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of crap about Mario three, honestly, but
<v Speaker 1>still I like to sign a lot, and I deserve
<v Speaker 1>to have nice things. I mean that, I don't What
<v Speaker 1>are your thoughts on Mario three in terms of the
<v Speaker 1>Mario canon then, huh.
<v Speaker 2>I've always gone back and forth between it and World.
<v Speaker 2>I think you know that you usually try to get
<v Speaker 2>mad at me for liking Three more than World in
<v Speaker 2>the past.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, I like World.
<v Speaker 2>These days, I am more more in favor of World,
<v Speaker 2>but I like Three a lot. I mean Three was
<v Speaker 2>a phenomenal game, and I like the Tanuki suit. I
<v Speaker 2>like the freedom of flight that it offered.
<v Speaker 1>By way, You're welcome for all the views I've been
<v Speaker 1>sending to your episode eight reaction video.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, and when the comments are so lovely, thank you.
<v Speaker 3>I might do more now, I don't know, Okay, don't doom.
<v Speaker 1>You haven't reacted to any of the amazing Mandalorian and
<v Speaker 1>grogu to Is that always coming out soon?
<v Speaker 3>Right?
<v Speaker 2>May right, thank you man.
<v Speaker 1>That's a I feel a little bit of whiplast. It
<v Speaker 1>seemed like the Mandalorian is the biggest thing in the
<v Speaker 1>world for a bit there, and then by season three
<v Speaker 1>people didn't care anymore. And now this movie is happening,
<v Speaker 1>and it kind of feels like people don't care. Maybe
<v Speaker 1>I'm out of touch.
<v Speaker 2>Because of those first two seasons of Mandalorian were like
<v Speaker 2>before we had so much Star Wars, so it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>this is nice, and it's like, Okay, there's too much.
<v Speaker 3>Now yeah, there's too much.
<v Speaker 1>And now there's like all there's like five shows I
<v Speaker 1>haven't watched, right, the acal like.
<v Speaker 2>Thing like I'm not gonna go watch all this Marvel
<v Speaker 2>if I need to watch now.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Ashoka not as not Aska.
<v Speaker 1>People get MAdM me when I say her name and
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, gosh, she's not real.
<v Speaker 3>Don't worry. I'm not assaulting anybody. Actually.
<v Speaker 1>All right, then, uh, before we get into things, let's

<v Speaker 1>later with chapters and timestams on YouTube. Hello, YouTube, they
<v Speaker 1>got it?
<v Speaker 2>Got it?
<v Speaker 1>Not YouTube or whatever. We have a lot to get into,
<v Speaker 1>so let's start the show with Nintendo shares surge after
<v Speaker 1>reports of Pokemon Pucopia success.
<v Speaker 3>This is by Tom Phillips at IGN.
<v Speaker 1>The perceived success of Pokemon Pocopy has led to a
<v Speaker 1>surgeon Nintendo's stock price, which had slumped so far this year.
<v Speaker 1>Though by Bloomberg, this week's ten point five spike in
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo shares is the steepest climb seen by the company
<v Speaker 1>since April twenty twenty five, back during the height of
<v Speaker 1>switch to pre launch anticipation. Recent months have seen Nintendo's
<v Speaker 1>share price steadily fall, with a drop off in December
<v Speaker 1>followed by a notable div last month, something experienced by
<v Speaker 1>various videgaen companies amid investor fears over the use of
<v Speaker 1>AI to replace traditional development and the technology spiraling impact
<v Speaker 1>on computer memory costs. Okay, the latter part. There's the
<v Speaker 1>real thing. At least what I see is at first,
<v Speaker 1>I think about that time when Pokemon Go was a
<v Speaker 1>big success and Nintendo's price went up. The stock price
<v Speaker 1>and they had to be like, hey, that's not really
<v Speaker 1>our thing. This is different, more their thing and also
<v Speaker 1>directly impacts switch To sales. So yeah, there's a reason
<v Speaker 1>to maybe invest in Nintendo because you're anticipating Pocopia being
<v Speaker 1>a huge hit a j do you what do you
<v Speaker 1>think the ceiling is on Pocopia? I was actually talking
<v Speaker 1>to shann last night about this, and it's like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>like Pokemon games could sell incredibly well, tens of millions
<v Speaker 1>of copies. Usually the spinoffs have a bit more of
<v Speaker 1>a ceiling to them, but this feels like it could
<v Speaker 1>potentially be the most successful spinoff Pokemon game ever, and
<v Speaker 1>maybe one that sells as well as I want to
<v Speaker 1>be careful not say better yet, but as well as
<v Speaker 1>the mainline entries.
<v Speaker 2>Right, I think this game's gonna succeed because it ticks
<v Speaker 2>some many boxes. There is Pokemon nostalgia, There is like
<v Speaker 2>it's tapping into that animal crossing Minecraft audience that hasn't
<v Speaker 2>gotten anything new for the switch to yet. And I
<v Speaker 2>think this is a bonafide system seller because it is
<v Speaker 2>a switch to exclusive. You know, I have three kids,
<v Speaker 2>Two of them have switch tos, the one never wanted
<v Speaker 2>one because She's like, all I play is Minecraft, I
<v Speaker 2>don't need a switch to And I feel like as
<v Speaker 2>this game kind of pops off and once the other
<v Speaker 2>kids get their hands on it, I'm wondering if this
<v Speaker 2>is gonna be the thing that's going to make her
<v Speaker 2>be like, maybe I do want one of these now
<v Speaker 2>so I could play this this Pokemon building game with
<v Speaker 2>with everybody else and my friends now have it, and
<v Speaker 2>on and on. So I feel like this this is
<v Speaker 2>a very early system seller in a way. Things things
<v Speaker 2>like Donkey Kong, you know, we're great for the core gamer,
<v Speaker 2>but I feel like this is that first mass market
<v Speaker 2>appeal game that is a switch to exclusive.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think at first it was. It was kind
<v Speaker 1>of surprising to me that this was a switch to exclusive,
<v Speaker 1>you know, you know, like, oh, one of these kind
<v Speaker 1>of games surely that can run on Switch one. Boy,
<v Speaker 1>I bet they're super glad to switch to exclusive now,
<v Speaker 1>because I think you're right.
<v Speaker 3>I think this is going.
<v Speaker 1>To sell more switch tos than any game has so far,
<v Speaker 1>especially the exclusives. It's the first exclusive Pokemon. Pokemon legend
<v Speaker 1>Za was a big hit. I was out on Switch one,
<v Speaker 1>and yeah, runs much better on switchhoo. But a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people can still be like, oh whatever, I'm not
<v Speaker 1>going to upgrade my whole system because of that. So
<v Speaker 1>and you know, if you're a Pokemon fan, you can
<v Speaker 1>also say, well, the next mainline Pokemon is going to
<v Speaker 1>be in switch to anyways, I'm going to have to
<v Speaker 1>make that upgrade eventually. But Pokemon, it's a group about
<v Speaker 1>how much of a saving grace that has been for
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo for a long time now. Even when there were
<v Speaker 1>kind of lean periods there of consoles like Gamecubot sewing
<v Speaker 1>amazingly or we you especially right, well, Pokemon was still
<v Speaker 1>there to make sure the handheld machines were selling very
<v Speaker 1>well in that they were selling a ton of Pokemon games.
<v Speaker 1>Sometimes I wonder what Nintendo would be like right now
<v Speaker 1>if Pokemon didn't randomly come out in the nineties there
<v Speaker 1>and just give it the biggest shot in the arm
<v Speaker 1>that has not dissipated whatsoever.
<v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, it's it's it's definitely been a lifeline for
<v Speaker 2>the company. And I do think it is smart that
<v Speaker 2>because po copy is this switch to exclusive, it's kind
<v Speaker 2>of like building that base and expectation, like, okay, Pokemon
<v Speaker 2>is now a switch to franchise, so the you know,
<v Speaker 2>put pic copy as your your kind of warning flair
<v Speaker 2>to to get your switch to figured out, get your hardware,
<v Speaker 2>get this game to get ready for that next one,
<v Speaker 2>because that will be a switch to exclusive as well.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I see chat talking about Pacopia bundle would go hard. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I don't think we haven't really had like a special
<v Speaker 1>switch to There will almost be something ready when Winds
<v Speaker 1>and Waves comes out. Part of me wonders, So maybe
<v Speaker 1>they're going to fast track some kind of po Copya
<v Speaker 1>bundle of some kind, maybe jumpstart sales.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, it's a sec way to do, like a sneaky
<v Speaker 2>like price hike. Is you have something that is like
<v Speaker 2>Pacopia with winds and door Waves and it's like this,
<v Speaker 2>you know, five hundred and eighty dollars skew or something.
<v Speaker 3>Like sure, yeah, you can be crazy.
<v Speaker 1>You've resisted the siren song of Pocopeia so far though, right?
<v Speaker 1>Is that my understand No?
<v Speaker 2>You started?
<v Speaker 1>Oh gosh, I played it on launch day. Oh that
<v Speaker 1>makes that actually makes more sense. It's how are you
<v Speaker 1>finding it?
<v Speaker 2>Then? I'm really enjoying it, you know me? I I
<v Speaker 2>always want to like these games, but like I've tried
<v Speaker 2>Animal Crossing, I try Stardu Valley. I always fall off
<v Speaker 2>them because there's just not enough, Like I wouldn't be
<v Speaker 2>careful I say that, I don't. I feel like you're
<v Speaker 2>just doing things for the sake of building, which which
<v Speaker 2>is its own joy, I guess. But there's just enough
<v Speaker 2>kind of objectives and direct rewards for your actions in
<v Speaker 2>this game that makes it a little more video gamy
<v Speaker 2>for me. So that's I'm enjoying, like the kind of
<v Speaker 2>carrots on the stick in this one. You know, the
<v Speaker 2>reward is cool Pokemon that I like. So that's that's
<v Speaker 2>very fun to me.
<v Speaker 1>Do you play Disney Dreamlight Valley.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's another one, Like like I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>I should love this, like you know, I love Disney,
<v Speaker 2>I love crossovers, and I just kind of was slogging
<v Speaker 2>through and I was like, ah, this is just kind
<v Speaker 2>of dull. I don't know, there's not enough there there.
<v Speaker 1>I did like Dreami Valley, and it's funny because that's
<v Speaker 1>the one that this does remind me of the most.
<v Speaker 3>Having not played Dragon Quest Builders, which.
<v Speaker 2>Right I'm to go back to like one of those games.
<v Speaker 2>I'd be like, what's what you know what what what
<v Speaker 2>was the genesis of this? What is it like does
<v Speaker 2>it have the juice there as well as or is
<v Speaker 2>it just the Pokemon part of it that.
<v Speaker 1>I like, Yeah, I do want to play some dragon
<v Speaker 1>Quest Builders at least too at some point. And yeah,
<v Speaker 1>now I'm curious just how much is that like this?
<v Speaker 1>Like am I literally getting townspeople to show up by
<v Speaker 1>doing things and dragging them over to build buildings?
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, I mean I've heard people call this dragon
<v Speaker 2>Quest Builders three in a lot of ways. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I assume there's a lot of DNA there.
<v Speaker 1>I see like Mecha Robot, Robot Bobot saying yeah, it's
<v Speaker 1>extremely builders too, And I could see I could see
<v Speaker 1>that happening. And boy whoever looked at dragon Quist Builders
<v Speaker 1>too then and was and was like this should be this,
<v Speaker 1>but Pokemon, uh they deserve Yeah, a big race, I think, yes,
<v Speaker 1>all right, all right, a Lego PlayStation is a poorly
<v Speaker 1>coming later this year. Just bite Chris Scollen a VGC.
<v Speaker 1>That's according to Instagram user Lego Minecraft Goat, who has
<v Speaker 1>a lengthy track record of leaking upcoming Lego sets and
<v Speaker 1>their pricing. According to the Insider man, I wish chef
<v Speaker 1>do Lego insiders instead of all these video game insiders.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 3>I like this. I like I have somebody, and I
<v Speaker 3>have somebody at Lego.
<v Speaker 2>They send me stuff. Yeah great.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, imagine being a Lego leaker in your contact with
<v Speaker 1>the real world is named Lego Minecraft.
<v Speaker 3>Goat what a beautiful world?
<v Speaker 1>Ah?
<v Speaker 2>Yes.
<v Speaker 1>According to the Insider, the Lego PS one will be
<v Speaker 1>released in December. Assignment will be aimed at adult collectors.
<v Speaker 1>Much like Lego's other console themed sets, The set will
<v Speaker 1>poorly cost one hundred and sixty US dollars, will consist
<v Speaker 1>of one nine to eleven pieces, including at least the
<v Speaker 1>console in one controller. That isn't as many as the
<v Speaker 1>Lego Atari twin six hundred, which was two thousand, five
<v Speaker 1>jar thirty two pieces, or the Lego nes which was
<v Speaker 1>two than six hundred and forty six pieces, though the
<v Speaker 1>former did include three other models based on classic Autari games,
<v Speaker 1>and the latter included a television playing Super Mario Brothers,
<v Speaker 1>so it's likely that the PS one will at least
<v Speaker 1>be similar size to the base consoles in those sets.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I like the idea of these kind of console based
<v Speaker 1>Lego things. The Lego and yes one looked appealingly to me.
<v Speaker 1>I never quite bit the bullet on it. The atari
<v Speaker 1>towards six hundred. I just don't have a ton of nostalgia.
<v Speaker 2>Four.
<v Speaker 1>I still want to get the game Boy. I think
<v Speaker 1>that one looked really neat, and you know, because it's
<v Speaker 1>my daughter built that one.
<v Speaker 2>It's awesome.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's not like a crazy expensive one. And even
<v Speaker 1>though this one is one hundred and sixty dollars, which
<v Speaker 1>is expensive for Lego, it could be worse. Take it
<v Speaker 1>from somebody who just bought that Enterprise d Lego set,
<v Speaker 1>and I'll tell you it was more than a no,
<v Speaker 1>slightly less let a qube before, but getting it was
<v Speaker 1>getting to cubivore cubivore levels for sure. You think you'll
<v Speaker 1>pick up a Lego PS one aj.
<v Speaker 2>No, I mean it's cool, Don't get me wrong. I'm
<v Speaker 2>careful with my Lego purchase. I have so many in
<v Speaker 2>the box I've never opened because i have neither the
<v Speaker 2>time nor the space for them. So I'm trying to
<v Speaker 2>stop myself. More and more that's said. I mean, I
<v Speaker 2>think this is a cool build. I mean I could
<v Speaker 2>see the PS one being a satisfying thing. To put together,
<v Speaker 2>especially with the controller. So yeah, I think this is
<v Speaker 2>a smart move. I wonder if we'll get other PlayStation consoles.
<v Speaker 2>It'd be fun to have the George Foreman PS three
<v Speaker 2>Lego build. That's someone will really turn into an actual
<v Speaker 2>George Foreman grill or something.
<v Speaker 1>We got to be getting PS three nostalgia at some point,
<v Speaker 1>because it feels like that hasn't happened yet, even.
<v Speaker 2>When HGS four coming back is going to be the
<v Speaker 2>start of the.
<v Speaker 1>Game like we have, We've had Xbox three sixteen nostalgia,
<v Speaker 1>but somehow, I don't know, maybe it's I'm sure it
<v Speaker 1>exists in some ways, but I just don't see a
<v Speaker 1>ton of PS three nostalgia yet. You're you're gonna be
<v Speaker 1>helping me set up for our Lego stream, which we
<v Speaker 1>started to tease here. AJ and my other brother Chris
<v Speaker 1>are gonna join me and Jeff as we check out
<v Speaker 1>some new Lego party content, playing some a couch multiplayer
<v Speaker 1>session of that. When you when you set that up,
<v Speaker 1>I'm hoping maybe it's also gonna help me prepare to
<v Speaker 1>maybe record myself working on that Lego Star Trek set.
<v Speaker 1>I think that would maybe be fun, maybe do a
<v Speaker 1>time lapse or something. Uh, that could be in enjoyable.
<v Speaker 1>But so you nostalgia, My nostalagive for the PS one
<v Speaker 1>has actually been super high lately.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And I've been going back and playing some PS one
<v Speaker 1>games here and there, and I think there's still a
<v Speaker 1>ton of fun. Just the aesthetic and vibe of that console,
<v Speaker 1>the startup sound, just the way PS one games look
<v Speaker 1>I find incredibly appealing. So I think that this is
<v Speaker 1>a Lego set. I am going to want to actually
<v Speaker 1>the idea of building PS one, And I love the
<v Speaker 1>way the PS one looks. I love you know, Jeff
<v Speaker 1>should love it. It's gray. Did you know that's his
<v Speaker 1>favorite color?
<v Speaker 2>That is his favorite color? That's true.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I want more great console. Honestly, every time Sony's like,
<v Speaker 1>we made our PS five or PS four look like
<v Speaker 1>a PlayStation one color scheme thing, I'm always like, that
<v Speaker 1>looks better.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah that that that TS one style of dual Shock
<v Speaker 2>four controller or whatever it was that was. That was slick.
<v Speaker 2>I'd like that one a lot.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>You know there has been some Lego in PlayStation crossover before,
<v Speaker 1>with a Lego Horizon, remember that.
<v Speaker 2>That's right. Yeah, the video game Lego Horizons. How can
<v Speaker 2>I forget?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so that that was in fact a thing there?
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I'm a favorite this. Yeah, I want to
<v Speaker 1>I want to see more consoles. I want to eventually
<v Speaker 1>get my Lego GameCube, which could just be one like
<v Speaker 1>one like Lego Brick. Actually right, you don't even.
<v Speaker 2>Have one, not just just like go to like the
<v Speaker 2>the bins of Legos and just get some purple ones
<v Speaker 2>and some black ones. You could go yourself, like.
<v Speaker 1>I could just make my own. Likely, Hey, Jay, what's
<v Speaker 1>the best PS one game? I don't know if I
<v Speaker 1>know what your's actually I think I know what your
<v Speaker 1>no answer.
<v Speaker 2>I think it's smell your solid right.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I realized the probably mal your solid one, which
<v Speaker 1>is not an incorrect answer for sure, all right. Uh
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man voice actor won't return for Dual Override as
<v Speaker 1>Capcom reportedly won't hire him with the protections of a
<v Speaker 1>union contract. This is by Vicky Blake at ign Ben
<v Speaker 1>diskin uh let's apologize. Then, the lead voice actor and
<v Speaker 1>magmaun eleven I, said he would not reprise his role
<v Speaker 1>for Mega Man do Override as the game's publisher, Capcom,
<v Speaker 1>would only permit him to return without the protections of
<v Speaker 1>a union contract. In response, actors Union sag AFRA has
<v Speaker 1>now issued a do not work order against the upcoming
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man dual Override, claiming the Japanese company had failed
<v Speaker 1>to initiate the signatory process necessary to hire unionited actors.
<v Speaker 1>This is not a quote, please be advised. At the
<v Speaker 1>production of the video game production, please be advised that
<v Speaker 1>the producer, excuse me of the video game production title
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man do Override has failed to initiate the sanatory process.
<v Speaker 1>The union wrote as such, the ZAGAT remembers are hereby
<v Speaker 1>instructed to hold any acting services or performances of any
<v Speaker 1>cover work force production until further notice from the Union.
<v Speaker 1>Accepting employment or rendering services on Mega Man do over
<v Speaker 1>I could not result in disciplinary action from the union.
<v Speaker 1>Consequently has declared he is no longer the voice of
<v Speaker 1>Mega Man. As statement pusted the blue sky is said
<v Speaker 1>with a broken blue bomber heart, I am no longer
<v Speaker 1>voiced of Mega Man. I was asked to return for
<v Speaker 1>Mega mand Override, but only in the condition I work
<v Speaker 1>without the protections of a union contract. I was told
<v Speaker 1>there are full AI protections in place that guarantee in
<v Speaker 1>writing that my voice will never be used for AI development,
<v Speaker 1>but was also told with certainly from Capcom that the
<v Speaker 1>project will not go union. I certainly appreciate the acknowledgement
<v Speaker 1>that concerned around AI working without a contract I can
<v Speaker 1>realistically enforce. Isn't something I can risk. Weird move by Capcom, right,
<v Speaker 1>especially now that like Sagata is telling people that you know,
<v Speaker 1>don't work on this project. Yeah, just just making a
<v Speaker 1>union production.
<v Speaker 3>Of course, I can't.
<v Speaker 1>I don't understand how any big video game companies can
<v Speaker 1>get away with this, uh sort of thing? Can Hindwa
<v Speaker 1>Chat mentioned Capto always tries to using on you whenever possible.
<v Speaker 1>It's why his voice actors Reside Evil games always change
<v Speaker 1>from game to game. Yeah, and there's been more consistency
<v Speaker 1>that we've had the same Leon for a but now
<v Speaker 1>though like eight to Wong's voice actions change between Resivil
<v Speaker 1>two and four remake. So yeah, and it's a thing
<v Speaker 1>about maybe Japanese devs, right, but you know, it's it's
<v Speaker 1>you're making a game is gonna come out in the US,
<v Speaker 1>and we have unions. You should be respecting that and
<v Speaker 1>using that. It's just it's just it is just bizarre, right.
<v Speaker 2>And I believe. Ben even said like he was willing
<v Speaker 2>to take like a lower a fee for the roles
<v Speaker 2>to cover any union associated costs, which you know, it's
<v Speaker 2>that whole thing, you know, I see in the movies,
<v Speaker 2>like I want to have my lawyer in the room. Oh,
<v Speaker 2>we don't need your lawyer. Just sign right here, it'll
<v Speaker 2>be fine. Like yeah, like you know they're saying, oh, no,
<v Speaker 2>we won't use your voice, right, we promise, but we
<v Speaker 2>won't do a union contract. Well no, if you're not,
<v Speaker 2>you know, if that's what your intention is, like, let's
<v Speaker 2>do this properly. You know. The fact that they don't
<v Speaker 2>want to is a little suspect that maybe they would
<v Speaker 2>AI stuff down the road when they changed their mind
<v Speaker 2>or something. So yeah, it's very disappointing. Again, you know,
<v Speaker 2>as AI contains to be a very hot topic in
<v Speaker 2>the acting world, especially with voice acted roles. It's it's
<v Speaker 2>disheartening to see a company as big and successful as
<v Speaker 2>current Capcom being unwilling to play ball with that industry.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's just bizarre.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, this Megan Man game is going to maybe
<v Speaker 1>have like four people of the voices. I mean, there's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be robot masters to show up and say a line.
<v Speaker 1>But it's not gonna be some giant voice acting project.
<v Speaker 1>The voice that budget is going to be a fraction
<v Speaker 1>of this game's budget. So like trying to be weird
<v Speaker 1>and sneaky about saving money in that front. Uh, that's
<v Speaker 1>pretty shady. That's it's someone.
<v Speaker 2>Who played and beat Mega Man eleven. I don't remember
<v Speaker 2>there being an abundance of voice acting in the game.
<v Speaker 2>Was there? Am I just forgetting there was?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there was like an opening kind of slide show
<v Speaker 1>cutsne with some dialogue basically that's where most of the
<v Speaker 1>dialogue is, and then some at the end. And every
<v Speaker 1>time you see a robot Master they say they're one line.
<v Speaker 1>It's right fighting you. So like Mega Man would say
<v Speaker 1>some things about like the gear system when he activated it,
<v Speaker 1>or like like you know, slow down or whatever.
<v Speaker 2>You know.
<v Speaker 1>Look, I didn't particularly love Mega Man's voice and eleven.
<v Speaker 1>I think it seemed sounded a little old to me.
<v Speaker 1>But still I would have appreciated the consistency. And the
<v Speaker 1>bigger problem here is that they are locking them out
<v Speaker 1>themselves out of all SAG after members. Who you know,
<v Speaker 1>those those are you know, those are the professionals.
<v Speaker 2>It turns out, you know, unless you want to do
<v Speaker 2>something quick quick, quickly make a man like like you.
<v Speaker 1>The voices, Yeah, Mega Man does not have a stellar
<v Speaker 1>history of good voice acting. Right for every Mega Man legends,
<v Speaker 1>there's a Mega Man eight or Mega Man x four.
<v Speaker 3>H you know what am I fighting for?
<v Speaker 1>Apparently it's for protections against AI being a guarantee and
<v Speaker 1>uh uh I hope, I hope they uh I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I maybe hope there's a backlash against this and they
<v Speaker 1>kind of come to their senses on this one. Capcom
<v Speaker 1>has so much goodwill lately that doing. Yeah, yeah, so bizarre,
<v Speaker 1>all right. New Super Mario Brothers Wonder trailer shows off elephants,
<v Speaker 1>rows Lena. This is by Claire Lewis at GameSpot. Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>has finally given players a glimpse of elephant Rosalina via
<v Speaker 1>new trailer for the Super Mario Brothers Wonder Nintendo Switch
<v Speaker 1>to Edition plus Meet Up in Bella Bell Park, which
<v Speaker 1>launches later this month on March Choy six boy that
<v Speaker 1>name right, three mats and twenty six seconds into the trailer,
<v Speaker 1>Rosalina appears in her human form, standing near an elephant fruits.
<v Speaker 1>What's consumed? She transforms into elephant Rosalina. In addition to
<v Speaker 1>her standard till dress and royal crown, The ever fashionable
<v Speaker 1>Princess is still sporting her iconic hair deal on elephant
<v Speaker 1>form with their bangs covering one eye as they always
<v Speaker 1>have that enormous Okay this is written. I'm reading here
<v Speaker 1>that enormous elephant truck is on full display. However, so hey, uh,
<v Speaker 1>I mostly have this in here. AJ to gauge your
<v Speaker 1>interest in new Super Mario Brothers Wonder Nintendo switch To
<v Speaker 1>edition plus meet up in Bella, Bell Park. I guess,
<v Speaker 1>first off, what did you think of Super Mario Brothers
<v Speaker 1>Wonder the Bass game?
<v Speaker 2>Oh? I love the Bass game. You know, I played it,
<v Speaker 2>I beat it. I spent some good time with it.
<v Speaker 2>I went back to some levels to kind of, you know,
<v Speaker 2>complete them one hundred percent, not all of the game,
<v Speaker 2>you know. I like the idea of having this game,
<v Speaker 2>you know, in Switch On, switch To in four K.
<v Speaker 2>I think having Rosalina is a character is fun. Honestly,
<v Speaker 2>the biggest improvement for my use case with the game
<v Speaker 2>is that now any character can be in assist mode
<v Speaker 2>or whatever they call it, not just Nabbot, because like,
<v Speaker 2>who wants to be Nabbitt. They want to be they
<v Speaker 2>want to be you know, Todette or whoever.
<v Speaker 1>Everybody's favorite Nintendo Mario character Nabbit. If Nabbitt shows up
<v Speaker 1>in the New Mario movie, I'm walking out.
<v Speaker 2>No you're not. The kids won't let you. I have
<v Speaker 2>very little interest in the meet up in Bella Doll
<v Speaker 2>Park aspect of it, Like I wish I didn't have
<v Speaker 2>to get that if I wanted, you know, the improvements
<v Speaker 2>to the game on my switch to But I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if the kids will ever have any
<v Speaker 2>interest in playing any of those multiplayer modes. I just
<v Speaker 2>feel like they looked like the kind of thing everyone's
<v Speaker 2>just gonna get mad at each other. That's when I
<v Speaker 2>look at games. I'm like, what's the conflict resolution gonna
<v Speaker 2>be like in this?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, if you dare to let your kids play Mario Party.
<v Speaker 2>Yet we did Lego Party and Walter almost walked out
<v Speaker 2>of the room at one point. He came back and
<v Speaker 2>he won. So there's a life lesson there.
<v Speaker 1>Right. It's a big learning experience, and I'm like, sometimes
<v Speaker 1>you're going to lose individual moments and maybe win the
<v Speaker 1>big thing or maybe not how are you gonna handle that?
<v Speaker 1>It's all arbitrary, right, it's all arbitrary. Yeah, it's like
<v Speaker 1>it is good. The ultimate lesson is you kind of
<v Speaker 1>have to learn to disconnect from this and recognize it
<v Speaker 1>doesn't matter, which is important for children to learn. I
<v Speaker 1>predict I'll be mostly playing this game for content, as
<v Speaker 1>much as I like Mario Brothers. Wonder the kind of
<v Speaker 1>multiplayer focus of a lot of the new stuff. I
<v Speaker 1>bet it'll be fun for a.
<v Speaker 2>Uph synchronous like souls like multiplayer focus of the game,
<v Speaker 2>like when it was new and you had all the
<v Speaker 2>ghosts running around and helping each other like that was cool.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know how active that still is now the
<v Speaker 2>game has been out a while. That's still a thing
<v Speaker 2>you'll encounter. But uh, I don't necessarily need like weird
<v Speaker 2>party games in my Mario.
<v Speaker 1>No, not necessarily. Although remember in the DS, like like
<v Speaker 1>the like the Maria games all came with like a
<v Speaker 1>weird collection of touch screen mini games.
<v Speaker 3>I kind of like this.
<v Speaker 2>It was.
<v Speaker 3>I played a bizarre amount of this.
<v Speaker 2>I remember they existed. I couldn't tell you much about them.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they were in like Mario sixty four DS, and
<v Speaker 1>I think like literally the same ones just showed up
<v Speaker 1>and I don't new Super Mario Brothers or something. I
<v Speaker 1>was like, yeah, I'll play these some more.
<v Speaker 3>Why not.
<v Speaker 1>Result being the game is neat and all. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>the whole thing with Wonder was that the characters all
<v Speaker 1>mostly played the same, Like Yoshi was a little bit
<v Speaker 1>different than Nabet had a thing, but it wasn't like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>like you know, it's not like, oh, Luigi trumps higher
<v Speaker 1>and it's a little float here, and I don't think
<v Speaker 1>Peach had her glide or things like that. So Rosealina
<v Speaker 1>has been playable in you know, like Super Mario three
<v Speaker 1>D World and kind of had a bit more of
<v Speaker 1>a special movie that.
<v Speaker 2>Loomo comes along as like an assist mode kind of character,
<v Speaker 2>kind of like similar Mario Galaxy in a way interesting
<v Speaker 2>where it's like a cursor you can move and then
<v Speaker 2>even mouse mode works in it. Again, my kids are
<v Speaker 2>maybe too old for that now, but still it's it's
<v Speaker 2>it's a nice thing if you have a little kid,
<v Speaker 2>just to have them involved with the game.
<v Speaker 1>Your kid's excite for the movie, Oh yes, oh yes, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>because we all saw Hoppers together over the weekend, which
<v Speaker 1>is a good time, right.
<v Speaker 2>Hoppers was great. We enjoyed Hoppers very much. And we
<v Speaker 2>took the kids to see the Original Mario movie and
<v Speaker 2>they had a blast, and I remember them dancing in
<v Speaker 2>the aisles during the credits.
<v Speaker 3>That'd be clear. When you say the Original Mario movie,
<v Speaker 3>you mean the last thing.
<v Speaker 1>Ye.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, not the Bob Hoskins.
<v Speaker 1>What do you think they'd make the Bob Hoskins one.
<v Speaker 2>I think they'd have nightmares. I want to deal with
<v Speaker 2>the trauma.
<v Speaker 1>What are they looking more forward to Mario, Mario two
<v Speaker 1>or Toy Story five?
<v Speaker 2>They're kind of whatever's next. I think it is Mario
<v Speaker 2>right now, but Toy Story will be swiftly behind it.
<v Speaker 2>My daughter said something very sobering when I showed her
<v Speaker 2>that Toy Story five trailer. I pointed out, like, oh gosh,
<v Speaker 2>when the original Toy Story came out, I was eleven
<v Speaker 2>years old, and now when Toy Story five comes out,
<v Speaker 2>you're gonna be eleven years old. She's like, Oh, I
<v Speaker 2>can't wait to take my kid when they're eleven years old.
<v Speaker 2>Is he Toy Story ten?
<v Speaker 3>Boy?
<v Speaker 1>I tell you why, AJ, because I know we've been
<v Speaker 1>It's been about half hour, and I was getting ready
<v Speaker 1>to take a break. And then in the stock here
<v Speaker 1>I saw Jan first write in giant letters take a break,
<v Speaker 1>and then kind of replace it in the giant letter says,
<v Speaker 1>don't forget to take a break. Smiley mart smiley face,
<v Speaker 1>and look, I appreciate the softer approach, but how dare
<v Speaker 1>you doubt me? I knew we're gonna take a break, everybody,
<v Speaker 1>because we're halfway through. We'll be right back after this break,
<v Speaker 1>A break, break, I'll say it. Oh boy, what a
<v Speaker 1>great break. I really needed that moment there.
<v Speaker 2>The break is the breaks to.
<v Speaker 1>Digest the rest of the news we have coming up here,
<v Speaker 1>which boy, I thought it was four news series and
<v Speaker 1>it's uh and it's three.
<v Speaker 3>So I believe.
<v Speaker 1>I believe in our ability here. Hey, a decade after
<v Speaker 1>it was announced that Jay and Sombomb Beat Him Up
<v Speaker 1>is finally coming out next month. That's by Chris Scolling
<v Speaker 1>and VDC Jana Bob Chronic Blunt Plunch first launch as
<v Speaker 1>a crowdfunding campaign on the now defunk site fig God
<v Speaker 1>remember fag a.
<v Speaker 2>J Yeah, that's how we got psychonauts too.
<v Speaker 1>It is how we go well yeah, well it's how
<v Speaker 1>we got psychodots, who started I wonder who ultimately invested
<v Speaker 1>more money Psychonauts too, Fig or Microsoft.
<v Speaker 2>I think people had to get money back through their
<v Speaker 2>Fig donations because the Fig whole thing was it was
<v Speaker 2>an investment platform, not.
<v Speaker 1>A crowd investment platform, right, Hey payment Max show, thank
<v Speaker 1>you for the rate. Uh but yeah, yeah, And I
<v Speaker 1>had to cover a lot of Fig back in the
<v Speaker 1>day because that was a new thing. And every time
<v Speaker 1>there's the most team off they ever talked about Fruit well,
<v Speaker 1>and the whole thing there too, And for people don't know,
<v Speaker 1>Fig was, Yeah, it was like what's it called the fundraisings,
<v Speaker 1>the kickstarter Kickstarter? It was like kickstarter, but yeah, you
<v Speaker 1>could kind of like get a profit back maybe if
<v Speaker 1>you invest it. And they all, at least at first,
<v Speaker 1>they were like only one game at a time it
<v Speaker 1>is featured on Fig, so there wasn't kind of a
<v Speaker 1>glut of them, and it was like Tim Shaffer and
<v Speaker 1>other people who did all that. So yeah, Chronic Blunt
<v Speaker 1>Punch first showed up on Fig in February twenty sixteen,
<v Speaker 1>and it earned developer inter Bang Entertainment its initial four
<v Speaker 1>hundred thousand goal for My recollection a j like. It
<v Speaker 1>made that goal when not much else, right, Like sometimes
<v Speaker 1>you see these things blast through that goal and then
<v Speaker 1>they run out of money anyway, so I could I
<v Speaker 1>imagine four hundred thousand despite that being their quote unquote
<v Speaker 1>goal was not actually doing, especially with a ten year
<v Speaker 1>development CYC Well. Since that time, however, details on the
<v Speaker 1>game have been thin on the ground, with some fans
<v Speaker 1>of Kevin Smith's movie Characters word that it had quietly
<v Speaker 1>been canceled.
<v Speaker 3>Instead.
<v Speaker 1>In twenty nineteen, the same studio released Jans Silent Bob
<v Speaker 1>mal Brawl and eight bit retro Beat Him Up, which
<v Speaker 1>was released on PC consoles and even an NS cartridge.
<v Speaker 1>Now nearly a decade afterwards without updates beyond barad confirmations
<v Speaker 1>that was still in development, Chancedown Bob Chronic Blunt Punch
<v Speaker 1>finally has a release date. The game will be released
<v Speaker 1>on PS five, Xbox Series X in s intend to
<v Speaker 1>Switch in PC on Do you want to guess the
<v Speaker 1>date to AJ sometime next month?
<v Speaker 3>What do you think it is?
<v Speaker 2>It's very clever, that's very clever. It'll be on the
<v Speaker 2>fourth month of the calendar, on the twentieth day.
<v Speaker 1>That's right, everybody. It's gonna be on for twenty which
<v Speaker 1>which this article bigs clear, is a common weed smoking
<v Speaker 1>reference what Chris publishing will be handled by Atari and
<v Speaker 1>Digital clips. That makes sense. Boy, I thought that this
<v Speaker 1>had already come out. I did not know that this
<v Speaker 1>never did release.
<v Speaker 2>At all about it.
<v Speaker 1>Not only did I cover, you know, the fig deal
<v Speaker 1>with this game. I talked to Jason Muse, who you
<v Speaker 1>know is Jay at a GDC. That's where Jeff is
<v Speaker 1>right now. I've talked to him at a GDC ten
<v Speaker 1>years ago. It was certainly one of the more entertaining interviews.
<v Speaker 3>I ever did.
<v Speaker 1>And it was.
<v Speaker 2>Once too.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah that Jason in our life?
<v Speaker 1>How about that? So yeah, and that was yeah, this game.
<v Speaker 1>You know, he was promoting this game then and again
<v Speaker 1>that was ten years ago I did that.
<v Speaker 2>That's almost a silk song.
<v Speaker 1>It is almost a silk Yeah, this should have been
<v Speaker 1>the new Soak. Imagine if it said the folk song.
<v Speaker 1>Every video game presentation people are like worst chronic blunt punch,
<v Speaker 1>got I tell you what. Look at the trailer though, like,
<v Speaker 1>this game actually looks pretty good. It has that Andreel style.
<v Speaker 1>It looks not exactly like a little bit like that
<v Speaker 1>Clerk's animated show. That was actually really good.
<v Speaker 3>And beat them up.
<v Speaker 1>I feel like this delay is gonna benefit them in
<v Speaker 1>some ways because beat them up. Yeah, they're hot right now.
<v Speaker 1>We just had that Scott Pilgrim one come out. There
<v Speaker 1>was the you know, Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Power Rangers got
<v Speaker 1>one not too long ago. If that Power Rangers was
<v Speaker 1>the Atari Digital clips people, So they've been in this
<v Speaker 1>space all already. Where where where are you with Kevin Smith?
<v Speaker 1>Especially those kind of classic Jay and Ba James and
<v Speaker 1>Bob featuring one.
<v Speaker 2>I love those back in the day, Doc Mud, I
<v Speaker 2>mean Jane Sun Bob strikes Back. I watched a ton
<v Speaker 2>in college. We just love that movie for some reason.
<v Speaker 2>I haven't comet up with the newer stuff as much.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I don't know if anybody has seen Clerks three right,
<v Speaker 1>which happened so yeah, I don't know what people think
<v Speaker 1>about that one. But yeah, like back in my teenage years,
<v Speaker 1>and I feel like it's it's fallen out of the
<v Speaker 1>fashion and I get it. These movies are very much
<v Speaker 1>of their time and in a lot of ways.
<v Speaker 3>Uh, but I was.
<v Speaker 1>I did enjoy those films quite a bit, especially jays
<v Speaker 1>On Bob Strikes Back, which was the silliest movie he made,
<v Speaker 1>very that was very gouber of a movie, right, right,
<v Speaker 1>So this if in this game seems to be taking
<v Speaker 1>a good bit with that, like you are Jane song Bob,
<v Speaker 1>but they turned into their weed superhero alter egos legos.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, chronic and blunt.
<v Speaker 2>Because Mark Hampill in this game, that'd be kind of fun.
<v Speaker 1>Oh, the was the the dick puncher? What was his
<v Speaker 1>character knocker or something? Lock Knocker? Yeah, I don't feel
<v Speaker 1>comfortable saying cock knocker. I should stop saying that actually work.
<v Speaker 2>I need to be a little quiet. Wasn't aj the
<v Speaker 2>character from the movie The Chicken Hitter?
<v Speaker 1>That's not right? You speak louder? Actually what was Mark Campbell?
<v Speaker 1>Pay him your hero?
<v Speaker 2>Knocker? Oh?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I don't know. I need to whispery interesting. I
<v Speaker 1>woant to check this game out. Actually, what the heck?
<v Speaker 1>I like, beat him up? Not quite a bit. In
<v Speaker 1>this whole ten year developments like we aspick of it.
<v Speaker 1>Good on them, A lot of people would have just
<v Speaker 1>abandoned it. I'm still in denial about Barkley shut up
<v Speaker 1>and jam guided to not actually happening.
<v Speaker 2>I'm so sorry.
<v Speaker 1>Right, yeah, yeah, that's that's a rough one for me
<v Speaker 1>to accept. So a happy ending for Jay and Silent Bob.
<v Speaker 1>There's gonna be a price increase for Fall guys show
<v Speaker 1>Bucks coming on April eighth. It's from the game's website,
<v Speaker 1>starring April a for making price increases to show Bucks.
<v Speaker 1>That's what they call it. That's not quite tell you what.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if kids are asking for show Bucks
<v Speaker 1>for for Christmas.
<v Speaker 3>No, here's what's changing.
<v Speaker 1>The so the night Dar pack changes from a thousand
<v Speaker 1>Showbucks to eight hundred, so on and so forth. Actually
<v Speaker 1>looks very similar to what they talked about in the
<v Speaker 1>BombCast yesterday with Fortnite's v Bucks.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's the same thing because it's the same because
<v Speaker 2>they're they're emphasizing if you buy your v Bucks and
<v Speaker 2>show Bucks and what what what are the bucks for
<v Speaker 2>Rocket League Rocket?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? Yeah, rocket Shekels. I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>But if you if you buy them from Epic, you
<v Speaker 2>get your ten percent back or whatever, and it's almost
<v Speaker 2>the same as the old costs. It's not. But boy,
<v Speaker 2>I haven't listening to the job the BombCast from We
<v Speaker 2>have Sam Stree, you guys talked about the loot as
<v Speaker 2>far as the v Bucks thing goes. But who in
<v Speaker 2>pr and marketing approved that blog post where it's like
<v Speaker 2>it's getting expensive to, you know, run the most successful
<v Speaker 2>game in the world. We need helping the bills, who
<v Speaker 2>poor little lust the cupboards are bare like dollars off
<v Speaker 2>Fortnite in twenty twenty three, and you laid off a
<v Speaker 2>bunch of people that year too. How can you not
<v Speaker 2>afford the servers for Fortnite? What? What?
<v Speaker 1>What? Yeah? Bizarre?
<v Speaker 3>Best thing?
<v Speaker 1>This blog post was very dry, just kind of talking
<v Speaker 1>about the differences in these prices, which yeah, I mean, look,
<v Speaker 1>I guess there's parties like there's inflation everywhere that other
<v Speaker 1>parties like Boy Epic Games, they make just a zillion dollars.
<v Speaker 1>They made so much money from Fortnite. I can't imagine
<v Speaker 1>why they need more money.
<v Speaker 2>Like, yeah, god forbid that the profits aren't as profitable
<v Speaker 2>as they were profiting before.
<v Speaker 1>Well, don't forget about me, don't forget about their charity age.
<v Speaker 3>I was about to include this. Uh.
<v Speaker 1>I saw that Fortnite Save the World, a mode that
<v Speaker 1>was previously known as Fortnite.
<v Speaker 2>The kids just can't stop talking about.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, uh, did you know that wasn't free well it's
<v Speaker 1>about it didn't Yeah, yeah, I was like, what it's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be free? Uh for uh, it's not all platforms,
<v Speaker 1>but it's going to include switch to here.
<v Speaker 2>So yes, it's not on Switch one because I think
<v Speaker 2>it couldn't run it.
<v Speaker 1>Right exactly or mobile. People don't know. Fortnite Saved the
<v Speaker 1>World is what Fortnite was supposed to be, a kind
<v Speaker 1>of zombie survival, building your fort and surviving waves zombie.
<v Speaker 1>You know, it takes more inspiration from Call of Duty
<v Speaker 1>zombie mode than anything else. And then they pivoted when
<v Speaker 1>PUBG was a big hit and just added in a
<v Speaker 1>kind of makeshift battle royale mode, which turned out to
<v Speaker 1>work super well in their game engine, and a zillion
<v Speaker 1>dollars later, here we are. There's a part of me
<v Speaker 1>that thinks would be funny if on UPF we played
<v Speaker 1>Save for the World just to see what the hell
<v Speaker 1>that looks like.
<v Speaker 2>That's even like, gone, gosh, I remember this just sucks
<v Speaker 2>because like you know, I like Fortnite. I go in
<v Speaker 2>and out of it. I played a lot of it
<v Speaker 2>during that Simpson season. That was super fun. But boy,
<v Speaker 2>if there was ever a game where it's easy to
<v Speaker 2>not spend money because it is just cosmetics. I could
<v Speaker 2>play Fortnite and just kind of be happy with the
<v Speaker 2>skins I have at this point, even like because I
<v Speaker 2>have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, I get the Fortnite Crue
<v Speaker 2>subscription as part of that, even that had like what
<v Speaker 2>you get from that reduced, Like it's just ridiculous, it's
<v Speaker 2>so dumb for what, So I could buy fewer things. Okay,
<v Speaker 2>I guess I won't give you money, like it's just whatever.
<v Speaker 2>Good luck to them. I guess they need it.
<v Speaker 3>Gosh.
<v Speaker 1>I remember when Fortnite was for pop first popping off,
<v Speaker 1>and I had to write about it, even even though
<v Speaker 1>it was clear that all anyone care about was like
<v Speaker 1>the Battle Royal mode. Every time I tagged a story
<v Speaker 1>about it or wrote about it, my editor made me
<v Speaker 1>mention like, say, Fortnite colon Battle Royale is doing this
<v Speaker 1>because I had to differentiate it from Save the World,
<v Speaker 1>soone got confused, right, And it was such a happy
<v Speaker 1>day from when we finally drop that, and oh, guide right,
<v Speaker 1>because that was the distinction. It was Fortnite this and
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite that, and then it was pretty clear what Fortnite
<v Speaker 1>actually was to everybody, all right, Dragon Quest creator Yuji
<v Speaker 1>Hoi English says that English translations of Japanese game lose
<v Speaker 1>flavor because it's quote a simple language.
<v Speaker 3>Another one by Chris goin VGC, Thank you, Chris.
<v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest creator Yuji Hoori has said that Japanese games
<v Speaker 1>typically lose some flavor when to translated English because of
<v Speaker 1>the language's relative simplicity. In an interview with Famitsu where
<v Speaker 1>he was speaking with Paranorma site writer and director Takeanari
<v Speaker 1>Ishiyama about the release of his latest game, Paranormal site
<v Speaker 1>The Mermaid's Curse, a game which I hear very good
<v Speaker 1>things about, by the way, and I want to check out. Ishiyama,
<v Speaker 1>who previously worked on Dragon Quest ten, note that the
<v Speaker 1>game supports English and Chinese as well since native Japanese,
<v Speaker 1>but explained that while he was meticulous about the language
<v Speaker 1>used when running the game, he's worried that if he
<v Speaker 1>was too particular about it, the meaning might not be
<v Speaker 1>convede when translated to another language. When it comes to English,
<v Speaker 1>the flavor tends to get lost in any ways, Horror replied,
<v Speaker 1>as translated by automaton, things in heavily end up sounding simplistic.
<v Speaker 1>Ishiyama went on to give an example of the numerous
<v Speaker 1>first person pronouns people can use refersals in Japan, while
<v Speaker 1>English just uses I. I have kind of mixed feelings
<v Speaker 1>about this one.
<v Speaker 3>AJ.
<v Speaker 1>It's absolutely true that when things are translated, something from
<v Speaker 1>that original flavor is going to be lost or it
<v Speaker 1>gonna has to be reworked. There's just so many things
<v Speaker 1>missing from language to language. There's idiots on the internet
<v Speaker 1>you seem to think that translation is just like, well,
<v Speaker 1>this word now means this word, right, not keeping in
<v Speaker 1>you know, mind things like grammar or what vows this
<v Speaker 1>language uses, or you know, subject verb, noun order, makeup
<v Speaker 1>things like that on horrifics, all the issues.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, well it goes for that too. There's there's cultural
<v Speaker 2>phrases and and you know, even in things as simple
<v Speaker 2>as as a rhyming pattern to something that gets lost
<v Speaker 2>in translation. You know, it is more than just you know,
<v Speaker 2>this word equals that word. It's the difference between translation
<v Speaker 2>and localization, which are two very different things in my opinion,
<v Speaker 2>and for the latter it's a lot more work. You
<v Speaker 2>need writers who know how to write in two languages.
<v Speaker 2>You know, we talked about games that have good localization efforts,
<v Speaker 2>things like even the going back to Super Marios, uh,
<v Speaker 2>the Superstar Saga. You know, those games are hailed it's
<v Speaker 2>having great localizations because the writing was so sharp and
<v Speaker 2>witty and had a lot of personality that you know,
<v Speaker 2>you don't get from literally, you know, going to translate
<v Speaker 2>that Google dot com, putting in the script and just
<v Speaker 2>copying and pasting what you get out, which is what
<v Speaker 2>we used to get you know, before that, like people
<v Speaker 2>saw the value in storytelling and games. You know, I
<v Speaker 2>guess I understand his concerns that something might get lost
<v Speaker 2>in you know, in an unintended way, but also like
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, what are you gonna do? Do you
<v Speaker 2>want your game to come out around the world or not?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I don't like I don't like the terrosation, like, well,
<v Speaker 1>English is just a more simple language, and it's you know,
<v Speaker 1>I've happened to, like be listening to a lot of
<v Speaker 1>audiobooks about languages and language fanilis and things like that,
<v Speaker 1>and maybe one of my big takeaways is that languages
<v Speaker 1>aren't necessarily more simple, easier than others in some ways, yes,
<v Speaker 1>but there there are different so you know, for for Japan,
<v Speaker 1>having all these extra words for I, and you know,
<v Speaker 1>with having the honorifics, and you know, alphabet wise, they
<v Speaker 1>have like three different alphabets including our you know normal
<v Speaker 1>not normal, but our English letters. Right, So there's things
<v Speaker 1>there that are more complex. But you know, then a
<v Speaker 1>lot of things in Japan are understood by context, where
<v Speaker 1>for us maybe it's more beatles. You know, there's just
<v Speaker 1>differences about it. And this interview also translated. So whenever
<v Speaker 1>I see people getting mad at something that Japanese developer
<v Speaker 1>said that's been translated a lot of times, I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I wonder if something was lost in this translation, that
<v Speaker 1>maybe isn't coming through exactly. But you know, like Chinese
<v Speaker 1>is the language where so much of the language comes
<v Speaker 1>through tones, right, not necessarily just the spelling of the words,
<v Speaker 1>but how you say that word, you can have a
<v Speaker 1>completely different meaning. You know, lots of languages are like that.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, like translating it can be difficult. It's in art.
<v Speaker 1>The thing was the thing here to me though, the
<v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest games seem to me in terms of I
<v Speaker 1>like reading them and I like the stories, not in
<v Speaker 1>terms of I know the originals. I can judge based
<v Speaker 1>on that, but their translations seem very good. I think
<v Speaker 1>that the Dragon Quest games in general have come off
<v Speaker 1>pretty well. Now maybe if you're the original career of
<v Speaker 1>those games, you things that are getting lost in translation.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, but they seem very good to me,
<v Speaker 1>and it seems like in general, the state of game
<v Speaker 1>translations is much better than it was in you know,
<v Speaker 1>the sixteen bit era, where the cartridge size in just
<v Speaker 1>how many characters can fit in one of those dialogue
<v Speaker 1>boxes was severely limiting them.
<v Speaker 2>Yes. Also the other thing too, I think that I
<v Speaker 2>think I especially learn from Foul Fancy Tactics Evily's Chronicles
<v Speaker 2>is you know, the translation gets you part way there,
<v Speaker 2>but then having performances from actors and an acting director
<v Speaker 2>who understands the heart of the script is kind of
<v Speaker 2>like what gets you over the finish line. Because you know,
<v Speaker 2>I played found Fantasy Tactics back in the day, and
<v Speaker 2>the story I always felt a little gobbledy gooky to me.
<v Speaker 2>But those performances in that remake were so good that
<v Speaker 2>it really brought it together. I likened it to the
<v Speaker 2>difference between reading Shakespeare and seeing Shakespeare performed by professionals
<v Speaker 2>who understand, you know, the text and what's being conveyed.
<v Speaker 2>And you know, I thought that game was fantastic storytelling
<v Speaker 2>because of that. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>In the same intery, he actually imagines that the advent
<v Speaker 1>of voice acting has helped alleviate this problem somewhat for him, right,
<v Speaker 1>because yeah, I don't know, just makes things translate better
<v Speaker 1>when but just.
<v Speaker 2>Weird is like the advent of VOI we've had voice
<v Speaker 2>acting in games for twenty five years. What are you
<v Speaker 2>talking about?
<v Speaker 3>Right?
<v Speaker 1>But it's something that Dragon Quest has been particularly good
<v Speaker 1>with it. And part of it is because I actually
<v Speaker 1>am a sucker when RPG's kind of just, I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>use a bit more of that kind of almost Shakespearean
<v Speaker 1>English dialect if you what to call it that game, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and a dragon Quest even kind of it gets a
<v Speaker 1>bit more. I don't know what they call it, but
<v Speaker 1>English country buck a lot of people saying blimey, Right,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what you call that. And I like
<v Speaker 1>that flavor a lot in Dragon Quest as well. I
<v Speaker 1>like the European bend that they give the series. I
<v Speaker 1>think it's worked for it really well. All right, Well
<v Speaker 1>that's it for our news topics, believe enough, AJ, But
<v Speaker 1>we have to look at a pole a poll that
<v Speaker 1>I actually made on Wednesday. It's gonna be a great poll,
<v Speaker 1>you'll see you all see because I asked everybody, have
<v Speaker 1>you bought Pacopeia. The options were yes, I don't have
<v Speaker 1>a switch to you, Yeah, you bought it. I also
<v Speaker 1>bought it. So I'm going to say yes, and yes
<v Speaker 1>is a twenty five percent, No, it's thirty nine percent.
<v Speaker 3>And then I don't have a switch to is thirty
<v Speaker 3>six percent? Right? So, uh, you know.
<v Speaker 1>If you said no, I assume that means specifically you
<v Speaker 1>don't have a switch to.
<v Speaker 3>So it still seems like a lot of people are
<v Speaker 3>saying yes.
<v Speaker 2>They said that means they do have a switch to
<v Speaker 2>where they have That's.
<v Speaker 3>What I'm met, That's what I'm mest Yes.
<v Speaker 1>Sorry, So there are more people with switches who haven't
<v Speaker 1>bought it than have in our community, it seems. And
<v Speaker 1>I wonder if you know, there's still a lot of
<v Speaker 1>people who are like, this might not be my thing.
<v Speaker 1>I wonder if more people are going to eventually kind
<v Speaker 1>of come over there. Yeah, I see people chat saying
<v Speaker 1>the seventy dollar price tag is a lot which yeah,
<v Speaker 1>on sale soon? No was sarcasm. Yeah, yeah no, that
<v Speaker 1>is like never gonna be on. So but now I
<v Speaker 1>have to make a new poll. I think I will
<v Speaker 1>ask have you bought a video game themed lego set?
<v Speaker 2>It's a good one.
<v Speaker 1>There you go. Your answer is gonna be yes or no.
<v Speaker 1>How about that for options?
<v Speaker 2>Uh?
<v Speaker 1>I actually think I haven't yet. It turns out because
<v Speaker 1>I have not I wanted to buy, well, okay, Bought's
<v Speaker 1>confusing because I have bought that Super Mario sixty four
<v Speaker 1>to one as a gift for Jeff's I guess that's
<v Speaker 1>technically a yes for me, but for myself not yet.
<v Speaker 1>Actually I want the I still want to get that
<v Speaker 1>game Boy one at some point, and if this PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>one one is real, I will absolutely beg good that
<v Speaker 1>I mean.
<v Speaker 2>Me and the kids. We did that first wave of
<v Speaker 2>the Mario ones that had like the little interactive Mario
<v Speaker 2>with the face. We did those years ago when that
<v Speaker 2>was new. So I bought those, Like I said, Sophia's
<v Speaker 2>done the Did you get her that game Boy? Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>You got her that right?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? I got her the game Boy?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Yeah, So we had that one tangent you saw
<v Speaker 2>they confirmed that like more Mario sets coming in twenty
<v Speaker 2>twenty seven with like an actual Mario minifig, not that
<v Speaker 2>little digital version of my.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it looks it looks much better.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I've been relatively unmoved by most of the Mario sets.
<v Speaker 1>I never liked the Legos. That's like, here's a character
<v Speaker 1>as a big Lego creation, like the Power or something,
<v Speaker 1>but the bowser doesn't do much for me. I mean
<v Speaker 1>with Lego, I generally want buildings or vehicles. I think
<v Speaker 1>those are the things, or you know, devices, I suppose, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>like Placeastion one is good. I think that people and
<v Speaker 1>nature do not look very good in Lego form. Like
<v Speaker 1>there's that new Zelda one that's the diorama of the
<v Speaker 1>Final Boss Fight and Ocaranda time, and I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>that just doesn't look that good as Lego to me.
<v Speaker 2>Right, I will say, the Lego botanicals or you make
<v Speaker 2>like little potted flowers and stuff, those are pretty cool.
<v Speaker 3>Those are cool.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so so that can that can make. There was
<v Speaker 1>also the Lego Saga Genesis controller right, just the controller.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, that's right, they did do that. I'd love
<v Speaker 2>a Gen one Genesis Lego set. That'd be cool. They
<v Speaker 2>should make the volume slider.
<v Speaker 1>Well, they should make the set like just straight to
<v Speaker 1>be the power of Tower, right, it should be like
<v Speaker 1>the Genesis and the C and thirty.
<v Speaker 2>It could do them as three separate things, but then
<v Speaker 2>you could combine them all together. It just prints money.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, yeah I might. I might like that, But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what. I don't know what Mario thing
<v Speaker 1>they could do? They have they done? Just Peaches Castle?
<v Speaker 3>I assume I think castles always look good.
<v Speaker 2>You need to make away are always good. And with
<v Speaker 2>the movie coming out, maybe you could do like the
<v Speaker 2>like Rosalina's Observatory. In some sense, that'd be cool.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, but uh, what you do you do like Planet
<v Speaker 1>Mario from Galaxy too?
<v Speaker 3>Because I think that thing looks stupid.
<v Speaker 2>No, no, well, I think I'm famously on record. While
<v Speaker 2>I can see Mario Galaxy two is the better game.
<v Speaker 2>I like the structure and the story hooks of Galaxy
<v Speaker 2>Want a lot better.
<v Speaker 3>Of course?
<v Speaker 2>Was whatever sounds like a train? What things always sound
<v Speaker 2>like trains in Mario games? You ever notice that?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 2>What like boxes will make like train whistles and they're
<v Speaker 2>coming at you?
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, well there's that dragon who had just has
<v Speaker 1>trained with like I do. I like trains. We should
<v Speaker 1>make us some kind of vlog centered around them sometime.
<v Speaker 1>That would be good. I see Dan record chat saying,
<v Speaker 1>how dare this guest pleasantly smile at content on the internet. Look,
<v Speaker 1>you came at me with your whole No, but he's
<v Speaker 1>pretending to be mad. I am the most sincere person
<v Speaker 1>you know, I've met your friends. How dare you try
<v Speaker 1>to act like? Oh, he's playing it up. He's pretending
<v Speaker 1>to be mad. Because engagement baits. I would never engagement bait,
<v Speaker 1>except for that one time yesterday what I did a
<v Speaker 1>social message for the BombCast and got people to argue
<v Speaker 1>about episode eight, which is such a good trick.
<v Speaker 3>It works.
<v Speaker 1>It works if you are like a social media manager,
<v Speaker 1>you got to make a social post for work, just
<v Speaker 1>somehow work episode eight into it.
<v Speaker 3>You'll get so much engagement. It's fantastic.
<v Speaker 2>I always say when you see like you're on Facebook
<v Speaker 2>and it's like, yeah, what's the best star Wars? Like
<v Speaker 2>for this one, heart for that one? I'm like, you
<v Speaker 2>just want me to click the engagement button. Stop it fun?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, you don't fool me?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right? What's happening on a giant bomb the
<v Speaker 1>rest of this week since.
<v Speaker 2>Jeff work there. You tell me, yeah, I'll.
<v Speaker 1>Tell you, Jeffy are you asking me? Jeff is going
<v Speaker 1>to be still a GDC, So no Blight Club today,
<v Speaker 1>but that's okay. We're gonna have a the Light Club
<v Speaker 1>Dan and I. Dan's actually going to play that Resident
<v Speaker 1>Evil seven d OC where you play as an old
<v Speaker 1>man who punches alligators. Uh. Dan and I both have
<v Speaker 1>not really checked out the DLC for the Resident games
<v Speaker 1>much like, yeah, it's real. It's apparently people like it
<v Speaker 1>a lot. Like there's there's like three d ocs for seven,
<v Speaker 1>and some of them aren't all that interesting. But apparently
<v Speaker 1>this one is the good one. It's called End of Zoe.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm excited to look at it. I'm excited to
<v Speaker 1>just people be like, wow, Mike deserves a Delight Club
<v Speaker 1>more than Dan. I happy just to watch Dan play
<v Speaker 1>this one. I'm gonna sit back for lawn. Yeah, have
<v Speaker 1>a Coke zero Yeah yeah, Passenger Princess, so that'll be good. Also,
<v Speaker 1>Abi and triffor gotta have their keyboard stream later today
<v Speaker 1>as well. Uh so we'll just been long in the
<v Speaker 1>planting there. I don't really understand what that means they've
<v Speaker 1>been they've been talking about for a while. I'm curious
<v Speaker 1>to take a look at that myself building a keyboard.
<v Speaker 1>I believe they're building keyboards.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I get that. I put new key caps on
<v Speaker 2>my board when I got those final fans fourteen caps.
<v Speaker 2>It has a kind of lego like zen flow state
<v Speaker 2>to it, where you're just kind of putting this thing
<v Speaker 2>together and making it nice and yeah, it's good.
<v Speaker 1>Keyboard stream everybody later today.
<v Speaker 2>Hey, maybe we'll do a desk building stream for you
<v Speaker 2>one day.
<v Speaker 1>Gross. No, that desk is so safely in that it's
<v Speaker 1>been kind of slouching ainst the wallely. It's yet, I
<v Speaker 1>might it's a prop it backup over this. Uh hey
<v Speaker 1>tomorrow Gamus Warnings is back and Jeff back everybody, So
<v Speaker 1>you'll be you'll be free of me chets as Aha,
<v Speaker 1>I get them. CJ's a game board name.
<v Speaker 2>I know you're Mitch and I CJS is he He.
<v Speaker 1>Says something about it. I forget, don't I forget. It's
<v Speaker 1>Carl with some other all that sounds good, Clark. I
<v Speaker 1>don't think it's ever before. I think that's I don't
<v Speaker 1>think it's ever been Clark before.
<v Speaker 3>Man, but I like it. I like it. I like it.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, voicemail dumb track tomorrow as well, and for our
<v Speaker 1>preview friends, Marry Me. Tomadacci is back. We've been having
<v Speaker 1>a ton of fun with that. I'm very invested in
<v Speaker 1>what's going on with my character at the moment. So
<v Speaker 1>that's been an amazing time. And then Friday gave us
<v Speaker 1>Mornings again and we've been talking about some plans for UPF.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think we've entirely settled on one, but yeah,
<v Speaker 1>we got some ideas banging around in there as well.
<v Speaker 1>All right, h s or anything you would like to plug.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, go listen to our Disney podcast Nineties Disney. We
<v Speaker 2>just had an episode come out about the time they
<v Speaker 2>made Cinderella Castle look like a giant birthday cake. So
<v Speaker 2>if you ever saw that or are intrigued by that thought,
<v Speaker 2>apparently a lot of balloons were used in that construction,
<v Speaker 2>which blew my mind. Yes, yeah, so you can check
<v Speaker 2>that out, and we have at some point here in
<v Speaker 2>your future, will be recording a bonus episode and then yeah,
<v Speaker 2>go watch that. It's fun. And then yeah, like it's
<v Speaker 2>like like you teased, I'm involved with some kind of
<v Speaker 2>lego content coming up the Giant Bomb soon, so keep
<v Speaker 2>an eye out for that. If you need more CJ
<v Speaker 2>and Carl in your life.
<v Speaker 1>Car, I don't know about Carl. Oh yeah, Clark, car.
<v Speaker 3>The is Carls.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know he's gonna be there. All the stars
<v Speaker 1>are here, all right. Uh, thank you so much, JJ,
<v Speaker 1>I do appreciate it. With that, we are out. Thank
<v Speaker 1>you for being the best sights gaming until the next morning.
<v Speaker 1>Mess have a good one, take care of yourselfie, and goodbye.
