There, Yo, Gitt, don't be late like Reuben was forty five minutes late. 00:01:06 Speaker 3: Forty five minutes tarty, because I thought we were doing this at. 00:01:10 Speaker 1: A different time, a different times. I'm on Ruben time. 00:01:16 Speaker 2: It's like Lombardi time, but different. 00:01:18 Speaker 3: Right. 00:01:18 Speaker 2: But I hope you guys enjoyed the All Star break. 00:01:22 Speaker 4: I hope. 00:01:24 Speaker 3: I can't talk about the boating that I did, but I really enjoyed it. Essapeake area, it was great. Let's go to Annapolis. 00:01:32 Speaker 1: We did the whole nine yards. It was fun. 00:01:33 Speaker 2: Let's keep it very I was in northern Wisconsin at my sister and brother in law's house up up north. We called up here up north, up north. First time my kids have ever been on a lake. Wait minute, been on a lake on a lake, Yes, on a lake lake and they did tubing, fishing. They had a great time. So yeah, that was They had a blast. They did not want to leave it. And they said they're like, how come we don't have this? I said, not too many lakes and we have the shore, don't have a shore. But we had a good time. So I hope everybody is doing well. Phillies resume action Friday night against the Angels. Three game series against the Angels, and everybody, of course is talking about the trade deadline, and I think that's kind of where we should start with the park's first pitch. First pitch is brought to US exclusively by our partners at Parks Casino, Pennsylvania's number one casino. A lot going on here, guys, with the trade deadline and a lot of speculation on what the Phillies will get, what they might do. Do they go for just the closer? Do they go for a couple relievers? Do they go for a corner outfield bat Rubyan, What do you think they are going? What do you think that they should do? What do you think they will do. 00:03:03 Speaker 3: I think they're gonna get at least one closure type reliever, and I think they're gonna get another one for depth. I do believe that they're gonna go for two and they're gonna be aggressive. And I understand from hearing through the grapevine that they're being very aggressive and should be because they have a good enough team to win the World Series. They have the talented enough team to win the World Series. They have not hit enough. I understand that, and they need to and you got to be hopeful that the boys do step forward. 00:03:37 Speaker 1: But they got a. 00:03:39 Speaker 3: Rotation that that you know, that really is the best I think in the game, and they got to take advantage of it. 00:03:47 Speaker 4: Yeah, gotta And you know, as much as we talked about the offense. To me, it's bullpen bullpen bullpen. I mean power armored to back, dominant arm closer type you want to call it. Do you agree, Todd? 00:04:02 Speaker 1: Yeah? 00:04:03 Speaker 2: I do. I mean the bullpen just kind of scares me right now. That's the lack of depth there, and there's too many situations. You know, think about that game in San Francisco, you know, where they were really shorthanded. They had Daniel Robbert pitching the eighth inning. They had to try to squeeze, you know, get Jordan Romano to try to get his first five out save and like, you know, at least you know, a couple of years, and obviously that blew up in their face, and you just feel like because of Ryan. Basically that all happened because one guy wasn't available, and that was a Ryan Kirkring. So the whole, you know, the whole setup got messed up. So I think they, yeah, they could get at least one or two more guys, at least one guy for sure, lockdown guy, and then you got to get another guy as well. 00:04:45 Speaker 1: Yep. 00:04:46 Speaker 4: Hey, that was first pitch. Its presented exclusively by our partners at at Parks Casino, Pennsylvania's number one casino Parkscasino dot com. You must be twenty one gambling problem call one eight hundred gambler. 00:05:01 Speaker 2: Phillies fans, whether you're hustling on the field or having a catch with your kids, staying mobile is everything. So we're talking trade deadline today and we put together a nice little list, a big list, and we're just going to run through this list guys and just kind of want to get your opinions on it. Do these guys give you a flow or do they give you no flow? That's the question. I'm going to run down this list just you know, just you like it, right, flow means you like it. No flow means take you know, no, not so much. Not so much, so just kind of just off the cuff reactions to these names. 00:06:12 Speaker 1: And let's let's. 00:06:13 Speaker 2: Start, because we got to get a closer. You gotta get a late ending guy. You gotta get maybe two late ending guys, or or at least, you know, some some combination of that. So let's start at the top. The guy with an a eraldous Chapman. 00:06:30 Speaker 4: Flow, flow flow, but he's having a great flow. He's having a great year with Boston, and Boston's in it. They want ten in a row. Probably not going anywhere at this point. I mean, how the Red Sox can rip up their team and trade that guy away. He's been so important as free agent at the end of the year. Phillis would rather have a guy they can control. Gotta like him. Think he'd be dynamite here. But I I think he might be sticking right there with the Red Sox given the way they're going. 00:06:57 Speaker 2: I agree, Yeah, I don't disagree with that. 00:06:59 Speaker 3: I love the fact that he's been there, done it, and has thrown in, you know, in tight situations, playoffs, one World Series, all that stuff. He's done it all. I love that heavy flow. I don't think that he at this At this point, for me, I think you almost love to see Boston. 00:07:19 Speaker 1: Fall out of it. 00:07:19 Speaker 3: But now that they've traded Raffi Devers, they can't show their fans that they're out not in the Northeast throw. 00:07:30 Speaker 2: And you're and you're hot rolling in the season end the day they would be in the playoffs. All right, here we go, righty, Felix Bautista from Baltimore. That's flow action, major. 00:07:46 Speaker 4: Big flow. 00:07:47 Speaker 3: But I don't, you know, the guy doesn't have the pedigree as far as you know, having pitched a whole lot of. 00:07:55 Speaker 1: You know, postseason play right, I think that they. 00:07:58 Speaker 3: He was basically was he not hurt when these guys were making their runs. I think he was hurt when they were making their runs in the playoffs over the last couple of years. But that's a hell of an arm And I would not be surprised based on the fact that they've already done some trades with the Baltimore Royals. I think that there is a a relationship that's been built over the years. You've seen some deals get done with them. I would not be surprised if he is not wearing a red pin striped uniform by the end of July. 00:08:32 Speaker 4: Mean me either. I think he is like one of their top two targets, and I think he fit great here. He's got two more years of control, which is huge, and because you're gonna have to give up something, so you want to have him around for a couple of years, striking out twelve point eight per nine innings. Had some control issues early coming back from injury, but he's really reeled it in late last fifteen games, twenty four strikeouts and just six walks. I think he's a big target. I think you're gonna have to pay big for him, but I think there's a chance that he could be here in Philadelphia and another heavy flow guy. Heavy flow. 00:09:18 Speaker 2: The Phillies need a guy that can get some swinging miss, get some strikeouts, and he's he's he's elite and at those two things, getting swing and miss, getting strikeouts, strikeout rates like you know, ninety seven percentin ale of Major League Baseball. So and they need something like they don't have a lot of swing and miss in this bullpen right now. They need, you know, they need somebody that can struct some guys that strike some guys out and there's runners on base. Old friend Sir Anthony de Mingez, you know they yeah some. 00:09:50 Speaker 1: Flow, and I'd like to see them get both of them. 00:09:53 Speaker 3: Yeah, then that obviously would make you feel a little bit better about, you know, giving up the kind of talent they're gonna have to give up. So if you know, I think you take on the money, you take on the talent, you give up some talent, some real serious talent. 00:10:10 Speaker 1: It may take three guys to get these two. 00:10:12 Speaker 3: Guys and three one three high level guys. I'm talking about Abel, I'm talking about Miller, and you're talking about TAYI I think that's the deal that might be able to get these guys. That's I think that that's how heavy it's going to be. 00:10:27 Speaker 4: That's a lot, a lot, that's a big I might want Loreano to in that deal. You can just send a limo down to Baltimore and bring all three of them up. 00:10:36 Speaker 2: We'll get the we'll get the Ramon Loreano on a bed shock. 00:10:38 Speaker 4: But Sir Anthony, I mean, I think we all all agree it'd be great to have a dominant ninth inning guy, but have a secondary guy that could pitch it, you know, set up man seventh or eighth inning. Sir Anthony's having a good year. He's had, you know, he had some good years here in Philadelphia. Scuffled last year, but I think it would make some sense to me if Phillies would want to take him back. 00:11:00 Speaker 2: He has rebound it again, same thing as Bautista. Elite, strikeout rate, elite with rate swing and miss, swing and miss. They need that. 00:11:09 Speaker 3: So he sort of slides into that slot between the kirkering and the closure, Sir Anthony, So now you're really backing up. You know, you're putting some depth together in that. You know, you got some choices. 00:11:22 Speaker 1: Who's hot, who's been pitching better. 00:11:24 Speaker 3: Now you've got choices from the right hand side of guys that can get people out. 00:11:28 Speaker 1: In the seventh, eighth, ninth. 00:11:32 Speaker 2: Guardians, Emmanuel Classe a strong, strong flow, a. 00:11:39 Speaker 4: Lot of flow. But I don't think the Indians are moving him. Our old buddy Paul Hoins says that he is not getting moved. And Paul Hoines has covered that club for a long time. He's pretty well plugged in, and that kind of messes with things. I've heard from people from other organizations that the Indians he's got one of the best contracts in baseball. I hear the Indians right now with two weeks ago not moving them. If they put them out there, I'd have a serious flow. 00:12:08 Speaker 2: You wonder what that would cost. He's got he's got a two team option club options twenty you signed through twenty twenty six, and he's got club options twenty twenty seven twenty twenty eight at ten million dollars, which if he keeps us up, it would be kind of a bargain for for the Phillies that they could get them. So you understand why the price we're bout. What about right hander Cade Smith Ditto, He's under control through twenty twenty nine, So talk about having to give up some talent to get somebody like that. You know he's he ain't gonna be cheap either. 00:12:39 Speaker 4: Right now hearing those guys are staying put. So yeah, they'd be certainly interesting. They'd give you a flow, but you know, if they're not moving, you got to move on. 00:12:50 Speaker 2: What about Royals Carlos Steves former Philly Carlos Stevas. 00:12:55 Speaker 1: I like him, gives me medium flow. 00:12:57 Speaker 3: I like the fact that, you know, I have some concern about I know he's striking out guys a little bit a bit a little bit better right now. I just don't know if he has the strikeout stuff that I think this bullpen needs. I'll take him, but I need somebody else to close out games. So I'll take him in to pitch in the eighth, but I want somebody to close out games in the night's. 00:13:23 Speaker 4: Yeah, he'd be your secondary guy. There would be flow there for me. Signed for next year as well, So I mean that equals control. But uh, interesting name. 00:13:33 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting. I he was with the Phillies last year. Obviously he had that you know in the postseason, struggling in the postseason. There are other some other big games where it really struggled. Not a lot of swing a miss. Again, I don't know. I guess I feel like he's been here once. If the Phillies can get him at a reasonable price, I just worry that because he's under he's signed through next season, the Royals would ask a lot. They'd say, this guy's an all star closer, escalates the price. I would not overpay for Carloso stev As. I would try. 00:14:01 Speaker 4: I would not. 00:14:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, I would try to go elsewhere again. I just something about his performance last year has me nervous. You know, would he be able to lock it down in a big spot in twenty twenty five and they can't afford to take that risk. Mason Miller, Jim, you love Mason Miller. 00:14:18 Speaker 1: I do. 00:14:20 Speaker 4: I would probably pay a lot for Mason Miller, But I don't you think he's available. Sounds like, you know, they got a few good young players over there, and they want to win the ball games. They should because they're trying to develop some people, and he's very valuable. He's got a lot of control. You'd have to come at them with like five guys. I'm not even sure the Phillies can do that. But if he's out there, he would give me a huge flow. I'm just not sure he's out there. 00:14:45 Speaker 1: I love the pitcher. 00:14:46 Speaker 3: I don't like the fact that he's never really pitched in the tight and has never really been there in situations where it's meaningful and it's different from pitching, you know, for the Sacramento A's than it is to pitch for the Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs when you need three outs in the ninth inning. Love the arm I I you know, I don't know the guys makeup as well as maybe some others do. 00:15:15 Speaker 1: If I knew a little bit more about the makeup and. 00:15:18 Speaker 3: You know how much of a hard ass the guy was, then then I might have a different opinion. 00:15:24 Speaker 1: But the fact that he has not been there and has not necessarily. 00:15:27 Speaker 3: Done it, and I mean done it, I'm talking about winning the games that have to be won in a playoff situation, I would have a. 00:15:35 Speaker 1: Little bit more flow. 00:15:37 Speaker 2: He started out the season really rough. Remember the Phillies actually hit him around pretty good in that three game series in May out in San Francisco. Since the Phillies kind of rocked him around the block there, he has a two point zero zero ear in his last seventeen appearances. Wanted to mention that he's also under team control through twenty twenty nine. Will not come cheaply, Rycell Glacias. 00:16:01 Speaker 4: He gives me a little bit of flow. I don't think the Braves were dealing in the division. Gonna be a free agent, I believe, so. The control thing is not there, had a rough season, has not had a good season, turns around a little bit recently, got some bend there, done that to him. Medium flow, low flow. 00:16:19 Speaker 3: I'll take him, but low flow and a guy that is a secondary guy for me. He he actually sits lower on the pole to me than a Steves, which is weird, but that's where I am. 00:16:31 Speaker 1: I got him below a Steves. 00:16:33 Speaker 2: I I see, I see what you're saying that Rubinet, and this is this is just that you know, he's got a four four two e RA. So I just looked at some other numbers, some other metrics. He's got a three point sixty eight x e RA, which is basically just walk, strikeouts and and expected batting average off of balls and play. So that that just indicates he might have been or might might have been. It might have been a little bit unlucky this season with the Braves. Maybe he would be a guy, know, yeah, you can buy a low on and he can get something better out of him that he's been pitching in Atlanta. I don't know, but certainly other guys in that list. Anthony Bender, right hander Anthony Bender two and five two oh six c r A under team control through twenty twenty seven, sting all. 00:17:16 Speaker 4: Right down in Miami. He'd be like a second tier guy. If I could bring in a big guy and him under him, you know, I'd certainly consider it. Uh you know, load of medium flow. 00:17:27 Speaker 3: Yeah, load of medium only because one he hasn't done it too. 00:17:32 Speaker 1: You know, I like the guy, he's okay. 00:17:36 Speaker 3: He gives us some depth, gives a Philly some depth, but that's just depth. 00:17:43 Speaker 1: I don't think he moves the needle for this team. He's not enough. 00:17:46 Speaker 2: Yeah, doesn't streke out a lot of guys. 00:17:48 Speaker 4: He's not enough as the number one guy. 00:17:50 Speaker 1: Right, No, he's not correct. 00:17:53 Speaker 2: Dennis Santana. 00:17:55 Speaker 3: I think they're gonna the fans and the team itself will be pretty disappointed. 00:18:00 Speaker 4: They'll they'll make a bigger move than that. They'll I mean, I think they're gonna throw. 00:18:05 Speaker 1: Them as the secondary guy, good depth. 00:18:07 Speaker 4: I think they're gonna throw something big at the Orioles for Bautista. But I'm sorry, I'm cutting the line here. 00:18:14 Speaker 2: Let's let's do the two pirate guys, David Bednar and Dennis Santana. 00:18:20 Speaker 4: You know they both Yeah, they're both giving. They both have to give you a flow. Bednar's had a really good year, a tough start, but a really good year. And and so San Santana. I mean, it's hard he was. I think you have to keep this in mind. Santana was a released player by the Yankees like last year, and he's really rebounded, So you know, what are you gonna? What are you getting in him? Is this, you know, an outlier season? It certainly is when you look at his career numbers and in his career on the whole. But if you could grab the hot hand, you certainly think about it. You know, Bednar's medium flow. Uh you know, Reuben talks a lot about can you do it? In the call in Philadelphia. I don't know. Pittsburgh is a lot different, but he has had some good years out there. Maybe not the same guy he was in his All Star years, but I would, you know, I would take him probably as my second guy. Medium flow on both guys. 00:19:16 Speaker 1: I'm right with you, Jim. 00:19:17 Speaker 3: I'm maybe a little bit lower just because for me, I'm a I like trust guys. I'm not sure I can trust either one of these guys, and for different reasons. One, as you stated before in Santana released player. 00:19:32 Speaker 1: You just don't know. Now, does he have a chip on his shoulder, wants to show the world. 00:19:35 Speaker 3: Maybe Bednar he's been there, but he's also really struggled at times. So I just don't know that I can trust them to be the guys to take this team over the top load. 00:19:51 Speaker 2: Yeah, both guys under control through twenty twenty six, So keep that in mind as well. Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, he was he's been an and that's been mentioned forever. 00:20:02 Speaker 1: He's not going anywhere. 00:20:03 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:20:04 Speaker 1: Right, they're in it. They're in it. 00:20:06 Speaker 2: They're hurdled right now or game and a half out of the third wild cards. 00:20:10 Speaker 3: So I can't imagine that the fans would allow that to happen. 00:20:14 Speaker 2: Yeah, Jim, what do you think? 00:20:17 Speaker 4: Oh, he gives me. He gives me serious flow. But he's not going to move. Then. You know, this guy leads led to majors and saves last year. 00:20:27 Speaker 2: It has not been as good this year though he has not. He's kind of a little bit of a bumpier roads. 00:20:33 Speaker 4: Sorry relievers there up one month or down another change the scenery. He didn'terests me. But I don't know. 00:20:40 Speaker 3: If he's moving, he might interest me. He might be in the top two or three as far as interest for me. 00:20:51 Speaker 2: Right left the Aaron Bummer signed through UH signed through twenty twenty six. 00:20:57 Speaker 4: I like him a lot. 00:20:59 Speaker 1: Hey, you have left. 00:21:00 Speaker 2: You need a left, you need it. But you're going to burn your trade capital on a lefty like a midian. 00:21:05 Speaker 4: He'd be my second guy. I can't. He can't be my big score in the bullpen, but it's a secondary guy. I would love it. I don't think the Braves would send him here. He is signed for next year, right, yeah, he signed the next year. You know, if you could get a guy like that that would help you this year next year, he's nasty, definite flow there, but I don't think one. I don't know if he's moving in two. I don't think they'd move him here. 00:21:28 Speaker 3: The left hander and the reason why I love Eraldist Chapman and I know where Boston is is because he's left handed. On top of the fact that he's you'll been there and done it. So I like the left handed factor of Bummer. But he's a secondary piece. He's not the first piece. Okay, so solid flow if you get him in addition to a guy who closes out. 00:21:56 Speaker 1: I'm in on that. 00:21:57 Speaker 4: I think it's good. We're examining, you know, number one guys in the bullpen. You know, big dominant guys that can shut down the ball game and set up guys because we think they need both the. 00:22:07 Speaker 1: Big Harry guys. Yeah, except exactly. 00:22:12 Speaker 2: Right hander Sef Halverson, he signed through twenty thirty. Got some rockies that could be available. He doesn't have great number, I mean ear a over five right now. This expected metrics are maybe like almost a run better than that. 00:22:28 Speaker 4: So throws hard, throws hard, medium, medium, meet loaded loaded medium, secondary piece. 00:22:35 Speaker 2: Staying away from your Jake Bird. Jake Berd got off, I mean Jake Bird remember him. He got got it with Bryce Harper a couple of years ago. He got off to a great start for a while there. He kind of looked like an All star. Uh, this might solve it for you guys. Not that you guys might have been really in on him. Last twelve appearances and eleven point one two e ra A. So no, no Bird. Right hander Tyler Kinley, same thing. You know, he's got an array of over six, but his metrics are way better advance past. Okay, we have right hander she You know, how do. 00:23:17 Speaker 1: You have to beat the analytics by getting people out? That's he that shows me analytics and. 00:23:28 Speaker 4: Analyze this. That was a movie. 00:23:29 Speaker 2: Put that in your computer. Put that in your computer. 00:23:32 Speaker 4: It's smoking. 00:23:34 Speaker 2: Right hander Shelby Miller he would have been great, but he's on the injured list and said, yeah, Tory level said the other day in terms of his elbow strain, my guess is probably anywhere from coming back and pitching to being shut down and having a procedure a couple of weeks ago. If they had gotten and they be, they'd be kicking themselves right now. All right? 00:24:00 Speaker 1: What about right? 00:24:01 Speaker 2: What about Kyle Finnigan from the Nationals. Nationals closer. 00:24:06 Speaker 3: He can strike you out with a split, but I you know what, I've seen him too much, and the fact that I've seen him too much, it's almost like the devil, you know. I don't care for as much as maybe I would if I was didn't see him as much. 00:24:22 Speaker 2: I agree percent seen him. 00:24:23 Speaker 3: Not have success and I've seen him struggle through some stuff. 00:24:27 Speaker 1: Is he a good depth piece? Yes? 00:24:30 Speaker 3: Is he a closer that you can count on to get three outs in the ninth in the playoffs? 00:24:35 Speaker 2: No, I agree with you. To me, is not a guy that I want I would feel great about if I'm the Phillies eighth ninth inning in a huge game. Kyle Finnigan coming in again, doesn't get much swing and miss you know his I I just feel like, you know, he's pitching in low stress situations in Washington. He would make me nervous if he was my my big eighth ninth inning pickup at the trade deadline. 00:25:00 Speaker 4: Well, you guys, talk to me right out of him, all right? 00:25:04 Speaker 2: What about John Duran from the Twins? 00:25:07 Speaker 4: I'm sorry, opinion. 00:25:09 Speaker 1: I mean, do you think the guy gets you some flow? 00:25:11 Speaker 4: No, he'd be a depth piece, secondary guy. He's not my He's not my big nine dating hammer. But he's been around a while, He's had quite a bit of success. I think he might have had a little tweak recently if I was reading correctly. But you know, I would talk about him, talk to my scouts about him. I dig into the numbers, but it would have to be as a as a setup man. He's not my big hammer. 00:25:35 Speaker 2: Now, Ruben, if you if you're calling the Nationals, right, I mean, I guess you know Mike Rizzo's not there anymore. So I don't know how that show is being run, But the teams go all star closer. They just hammer that point as in kind of like a try to push aside any of the other concerns and say, you know, you are trading for an all star caliber closer, so they're going to try to get you to pay through the nose, right. I mean, I don't think he's that type of guy. We mentioned Bautista, Chapman, some of these other guys. I don't even think he's Carlos Stevez. I take Carlos Estevez over Kyle Finnegan. 00:26:09 Speaker 3: I mean, it's basic economics, man, If it really the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 00:26:16 Speaker 1: There may be some teams and some scouts will go, hey, this is the right guy for us, and. 00:26:20 Speaker 3: They can you know, and they can get more out of that, or they may have a team that gets desperate to the point where I'm going to give up way too much for this guy, but I got to have somebody, and so it's a little bit of a supply and demand thing. But at the end of the day, at the end of the day, I just don't know whether certain gms think equity or they think they got to win the deal. And so you have to sort of know the personality of that GM to understand, Okay, is this guy just trying to get a good deal done or is he trying to like squeeze me to the point where you know he wants to beat me up. And so that's that's the that's the beauty of uh of making these deals and the difficulty of making these deals. 00:27:10 Speaker 2: What about Joe John Duran from The Twins. 00:27:14 Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness, that's a double plus? Yes? 00:27:19 Speaker 2: Yes, what do you love about him? 00:27:22 Speaker 1: Yes, he's a stud. 00:27:23 Speaker 2: I mean obviously he's you know, he's been success. 00:27:25 Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, he's had success. 00:27:28 Speaker 3: I don't think that he's really pitched in you know, he's pitching in Minnesota. So that's the thing that you know, he hasn't really I don't think he's pitched in postseason play. 00:27:37 Speaker 1: I don't. 00:27:37 Speaker 3: I'm on the numbers in front of me, and that concerns me a little. 00:27:41 Speaker 1: But the arm is just delicious. It's delicious. 00:27:47 Speaker 4: We don't know if the Twins are gonna the Twins gonna, you know, are they in or out? Are they gonna? 00:27:51 Speaker 3: We'll know in ten days, because there will know they've got a couple of arms back there that that would be. 00:27:57 Speaker 2: Four of them. 00:27:58 Speaker 4: They got four of them. That Griffin Jacks has a big strikeout arm. I mean, Durant has two years of control left Griffin, Jacks set up man with power has two years of control left. 00:28:09 Speaker 1: And then yeah, I think give up a lot for those guys. 00:28:13 Speaker 4: And that Varlin guy has like five years of control left still. 00:28:18 Speaker 2: Maybe twenty thirty. Yeah, he's on your team. Control through twenty thirty. 00:28:22 Speaker 4: All three of those guys big flow. Yeah, and he left that Danny Kolombe, he's he's been a good year, heavy heavy flow. 00:28:32 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:28:32 Speaker 2: Dan Colomb's the free agent after the season, so I guess he would. He would. He could come a little bit cheaper than those other three guys. 00:28:39 Speaker 3: But if you add you can add him to a to a Duran, or you can add him to a Jacks, you get two of those guys. 00:28:47 Speaker 1: Man, you're doing much better. 00:28:49 Speaker 4: That's a team to really watch. We got to watch that scene because one, you don't know if they're gonna stay in it, if they're gonna buy or sell. I mean, if they have a really good week this week coming on of the break, you know, maybe they hang. But if they you know, if they go ice fishing in Minnesota, you know some of those guys are going to be on the. 00:29:09 Speaker 2: Move, no doubt about it. Ken Lee Janssen, Jimmy you've liked him in the past, You've mentioned that. 00:29:15 Speaker 4: I mean, you mentioned in the past. I'm not sure Day likes him though. He just continues to rack up saves, you know, lower flow because he's old. But he's the Major leagues leader in s four hundred plus saves. But I think you need to shoot higher at this point. 00:29:39 Speaker 2: I totally agree Pete Fairbanks with the Rays. I mean again, he might not be available. They're a game and a half out. 00:29:45 Speaker 1: Of the I can't imagine them being available, can't. But you never know. It's the Rays. 00:29:52 Speaker 2: Yeah, they do. They do kind of surprise you from time to time. You're right about that, Rubens. So yeah, they might be got. They might have a situation where you know, they got I think there's there's a team option on Fairbanks for next season, so yeah, they might, Look, we're not going to bring this guy back after next year. Let's get get the most we can out of him before. 00:30:08 Speaker 4: Let's see how they play the next ten days. 00:30:11 Speaker 1: Medium to medium to high Fairbanks. 00:30:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's just for argument's sake. If he was your if they got him to be the closer, the ninth inning guy with that, would that satisfy you? 00:30:25 Speaker 1: I would be satisfied with that. 00:30:26 Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, because he's got some you know, he's. 00:30:30 Speaker 3: Pitched over the years in some tight situations. He's been there, sort of done it. He's in the AL East. It's a tough spot. 00:30:38 Speaker 1: I'm okay with him. 00:30:39 Speaker 4: Is that the last reliever on your list? That is so okay? Todd? Who is your pie in the sky? 00:30:46 Speaker 2: I mean, I really love the idea of Bautista and Sir Anthony kind of a tag team, because again, this team has really struggled without Alvarado, you know, just in getting guys that can strike people out, get some swing and miss. I know I'm repeating myself, but that's something that this bullpen really needs, especially from from right, from the right handed side, and so both of those guys accomplish that, and Bautista, as you mentioned with Fairbanks, kind of being through it. You know, he's pitching the American League East, so he's gone out there getting saves against the Red Sox, the Rays, the Yankees, the Blue Jays. He's not really facing any cupcake lineups, you know, in no disrespect to the ALE Central or some of these other leagues, but you know, I like the fact that he's had. He has to earn this. He has to earn his his outs and his saves against some pretty good lineups on a consistent basis. 00:31:43 Speaker 4: Very good point, Ruben, who is the apple of your eye? 00:31:48 Speaker 1: I'd love to get the two guys in Minnesota. 00:31:50 Speaker 5: I think I love the two Baltimore guys. I'd like to take there. They're back two guys, Jackson and Durant. I like it that that would be that would be really special for me. 00:32:01 Speaker 1: I like it. 00:32:03 Speaker 4: I like that combination too. I also like the Baltimore I think Bautista. I just have this feel that but Bautista could be the guy because of where the Orioles are, because they really need to add some starting pitching. And if Mick ables in that deal, you might be able to get something done. And yeah, I like the idea of of Sir Anthony coming back for return engagement. He's a known commodity and you know he struggled last year. He had some injuries, but man, he's dealing now, high strikeout rate. I think I think you could do a lot worse than having those two guys. But the Minnesota guys, if if if they put up the for sale sign, then I would be all over that like a duck on a junebug. And it looks like the Cleveland's are going to hang on to their guys. But you know, if they you know, that could be posturing. And if they throw up in the for sale sign at the last minute, I got to be in on that as well. 00:33:01 Speaker 1: Okay, so would you give up Painter in any of those deals? 00:33:05 Speaker 4: No, I'm hanging out to Painter. I'm just hanging out to Painter. He's uh, you know, big talent, a lot of value, who you've put a lot of time and effort into his rehab, and you've identified him as a future pillar. Run the play, Run the play. Let's see what he looks like when he gets here. And it doesn't have to be this year that you make your judgment. We're making my judgment on Painter. You know, next year, the year after, the year after, the year after could be a pitching staff starting pitching staff in transition as soon as next year with Ranger possibly leaving, and I got to have people ready to move in and Painter for me, I want to see what he can do. 00:33:50 Speaker 1: If you had a. 00:33:52 Speaker 3: Crystal ball and you were going to win the World Series by making that deal, Painter for the two guys in balld More, would you do it? 00:34:03 Speaker 4: Oh, just Painter, and I'm winning the World Series. 00:34:08 Speaker 1: Yes, well, it's all about winning. 00:34:10 Speaker 4: The World Series. I would do anything to win the world I would. 00:34:13 Speaker 2: I would trade anybody to win the World Series. 00:34:15 Speaker 1: Thank you, Okay. I was just wondering where you were your thought process. 00:34:21 Speaker 4: I always say, I always say I trade anybody depending on the opportunity. If you're telling me and guaranteeing me that the opportunity is indeed a parade down Broad Street, have at it. 00:34:33 Speaker 1: Thank you. 00:34:36 Speaker 4: I don't have a crystal ball, so that's the pictures. 00:34:40 Speaker 1: I was just curious. 00:34:41 Speaker 2: We're gonna get to We're gonna get to the outfielders in a second. But the Phillies resume the second begin the second half of their season on Friday night against the Angels. Let's start off with the guy we've been asked a lot, a lot the past couple of years, Luis Robert Junior Ruben come out there. 00:37:52 Speaker 1: There we go. 00:37:54 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I mean unless they gave him away, like literally, what if they what if they called him up said listen, we'll give him to you for your number twenty prospect in the system. You know, maybe a future middle reliever who's four years old. 00:38:09 Speaker 1: He listened, he could, he could go nuts. 00:38:11 Speaker 3: He can come over here and go nuts, and like, listen, love the fact that the energy here in Philadelphia, in the whole nine yards. 00:38:19 Speaker 1: But boy, you're taking a chance. 00:38:20 Speaker 3: And the guy who's very talented, uber talented, but has never performed, never performed money at some point it wasn't three years ago was the last time to perform. I mean, obviously people are picking them apart right now, and he's just not he hasn't been. 00:38:37 Speaker 2: Is he hitting two hundred, he's hitting one ninety five, ninety nine opes, He's i mean, he's got team he's got a team option for next year in twenty twenty seven, so I mean, technically he could be a free agent after the season. So I don't know how you know. 00:38:53 Speaker 3: I mean, if they hand him to you and you want to stick him in the outfield and see he does something great, but I don't think you're could have I don't He's not a guy I would invest in. 00:39:03 Speaker 2: I mean, can imagine imagine trading for him and saying and pitching that like we think he's a change of sceniory guy and then he does terribly. I mean, oh man, that is that would be such a crazy move in my opinion. You know, a Dollas Garcia from the Rangers. 00:39:20 Speaker 4: Got like a ops in the six hundreds. He hasn't done much in two years. I'm not on it. 00:39:27 Speaker 2: Same thing. I think that's a guy that you trade him and you go, oh, maybe he's gonna he's a bounce back hand, but bounce. It's not like he's been playing on a crappy team for the last four or five years. He's on a super talented team and he's just not producing. That to me is is some serious red flags. So I would stay away. 00:39:43 Speaker 3: I wouldn't I agree, but I would take him over Luis Robert. 00:39:47 Speaker 2: Oh, yes, no doubt, without question YEP, I agree with you there. Ramon Loreano be part of that. He could be part of that three team Orioles package. He's out numbers. 00:40:02 Speaker 4: I'll go down on my rab four and pick him up for three of them, Baptista and Ryan Shotgun, Sir Anthony and Loreanno on the back and we'll stop at uh Woodies in Northeast Maryland, get some crab cakes on the way back. 00:40:17 Speaker 2: Not Woodies in Philly though, different woodies, different wood he's in Philly, different different woodies. Two eight So Ramo Loreano to eighty four eleven home runs, thirty five rbs. Now he's a free agent after the season. But I mean he hits right now eight sixty seven ops. 00:40:34 Speaker 4: He might have to play him every day. Loreano, he's hitting you know he's hitting that well? 00:40:38 Speaker 1: Okay? Yeah? How well is he? How well is he hitting against left handers? 00:40:43 Speaker 4: He's not hitting he's hitting right. He's better. But he's having a good year across the board. Pretty much. 00:40:50 Speaker 1: Gotcha? 00:40:52 Speaker 2: Byron Buxton Byron Buckston, Well I would. 00:40:55 Speaker 4: Love Byron Buckston but he came out and said he's not going right. He said he's not waving his no trade. He's got a good contract. But he said he's not me. Yeah, he got that no trade close. 00:41:08 Speaker 2: So on point now, now, as a GM of the Phillies or a president of baseball ops for the Phillies, how do you say you really think you can get him anyway? 00:41:19 Speaker 4: Do you do? 00:41:20 Speaker 2: You do you waste the time and the resources to pursue that deal. I mean, it's it's a little this is not exactly the same. But remember Oswalt in twenty ten he had a club option. He's like, I'm not I'm not waving my no trade unless I get my option picked up. I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. And I think obviously. 00:41:39 Speaker 1: I pushed it and I did it. And I'll tell you why. 00:41:42 Speaker 3: Because if there's a chance to get a guy like that, you think he's going to make it be a difference maker for you. If you truly think that there's a chance, you push, You push until you get him. If you can't get him, you can't get him, and then you move on. So I still give it a shot. I mean, if I was sitting in Dave Dobrowski seat. I'd give it a shot, and I know, but i'd give him a shot. 00:42:05 Speaker 4: Don't you think they probably have. I'm sure they have given it. 00:42:08 Speaker 1: I'm I'm not saying he didn't. 00:42:10 Speaker 4: I'm just saying, and I'm sure they'll continue to it because if you're talking to them about relievers, you had every conversation with you know, I'd still like to talk about Buckston and then maybe you go back door and you call up the agent on the on the secret bat phone and you have a little conversation with him. 00:42:26 Speaker 3: I would never think of doing anything like that, Jim ever, Okay, that. 00:42:32 Speaker 2: Would never happen. I mean, you know the thing is he's he's to me. That would be the move that would just that would just be all in. We're gonna go for it this year because if he stays healthy, man, you have another dynamic hit in that lineup. 00:42:49 Speaker 4: But you still need a big arm at the back of the bullpen. Now you've got it your farm system. 00:42:56 Speaker 1: That's okay. 00:42:57 Speaker 3: I'll take Buckston and Durant and I'll take it home to the house and I would trade Painter for that. 00:43:04 Speaker 4: I'd have to think, Yeah, that's there. 00:43:06 Speaker 1: You go. It would be on the move and it would have her taken. 00:43:10 Speaker 4: That would be the opportunity. 00:43:11 Speaker 2: Yeah that yeah, that would be amazing. That would be amazing, Tyler O'Neill. 00:43:15 Speaker 4: Then you better win this year. Tyler, I always liked him, but he gets hurt all the time. 00:43:19 Speaker 2: Is he off the IL, He's off the I l he's he's like got these three for twenty two since coming back from the IL earlier this month. 00:43:25 Speaker 4: So he and you know what he's ow He's owed a lot of money. 00:43:28 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I would say I would just run. I would run from that. 00:43:32 Speaker 3: Run the only way, the only way I would do that if they take back a significant amount of the money that he's owed in the next two years. I know it's the first year in the contract. I would take the money back knowing that he's going to be on the IL for at least half of that the rest of that contract, because that's how it's going to happen with him. But I'd take him because when he's hot, he can carry a team. But it would all be all all about how much money I get back on it, and and not investing too much of a uh you know, trade collateral for him. 00:44:06 Speaker 2: How about a two for Mason Miller and Brent Rooker. Well, exactly right. I mean he's a yeah, he's playing I don't want to play shore left correct? Correct? I mean he'd be a tremendous bad to having the lineup. He's played thirteen games in the outfield this season. You know he was he wasn't even playing in the outfield last He wasn't playing in the outfield last season either, So you're not. 00:44:34 Speaker 3: If you're not going to sign Schober, I get him, But I want to sign shob If you're not going to sign Schwarber, I push hard and let Schoreber play left field forward the rest of the season, put him in a DH slot and then have him been my DH going forward assigned d H. Now that's a possibility. That's thinking out outside the box. But you got to think about the fact. 00:44:59 Speaker 1: That but you're going to be no longer with Kyle Schwarber after the season. 00:45:05 Speaker 2: For that reason, I wrote is that worth it? Not? For me? 00:45:08 Speaker 1: It's not. 00:45:09 Speaker 2: I would roll the dice and going to going to free agency with Kyle Schwarbur un signed, hoping that I can bring him back, rather than basically just end it right there. With that trade Jaron Durant from the Red Sox signed through twenty twenty eight. 00:45:26 Speaker 4: He's like, I don't know if they're moving him because of this ten game winning streak. Is a real energy guy in this winning streak, and yep, they might need him to they think they can make the postseason now though I mean they're on the playoff greditally. Probably hard to see them moving him. 00:45:41 Speaker 3: I know he's left handed, but still sort of a perfect guy personality wise to play in Philadelphia for me, Like. 00:45:52 Speaker 2: Brian Reynolds from the Pirates, he said a down year signed through twenty thirty or under team control through twenty thirty club option twenty thirty one. 00:46:03 Speaker 4: Has not produced this year at all. 00:46:06 Speaker 2: Not a little unlucky. He's been a little unlucky. 00:46:09 Speaker 3: Well, so I think that this guy, I'm gonna have medium flow and I'm gonna tell you why. I think that this guy has had enough of playing on a shitty team. I think he's had enough of it. He knows he's not gonna win. I think he wants to get out of there and go play for a winner. And when he plays left field every day for the Fight in Phillies, he's gonna help them win. 00:46:31 Speaker 1: I'll take him. 00:46:33 Speaker 3: Bad and I'll stick him in left field for a long time, and then my center fielder is gonna end up being craffered for a while. 00:46:39 Speaker 4: He signed for a long time. What's he signed for? 00:46:41 Speaker 2: Signed through twenty thirty's and there's a team option for twenty thirty one, so you'd have your you know we're gonna be losing Castianos. 00:46:52 Speaker 1: I like him. I'll take him. 00:46:54 Speaker 4: Taylor Ward, low flow, he's out there every year, never. 00:47:00 Speaker 1: Loves Yeah, streaky as hell. 00:47:03 Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a big power guy, but you know everything else isn't really there. Yeah, very streaky. You know, to me, that'd be a guy. You get him right, and he hits a couple of home runs early, and then the playoffs comes around and he's swinging and missing and everything and going, oh my gosh, what what just happened? 00:47:20 Speaker 1: We got one of these guys? 00:47:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, a little bit different. Eugenio Suarez. 00:47:28 Speaker 4: If he's might be going to the Yankees and too many moving parts to get into third base, I just don't see it happen. 00:47:34 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:47:35 Speaker 2: We kind of touched on him the other day, right, I mean, good bat, Yeah. 00:47:38 Speaker 4: Get a lot of home runs in June. 00:47:40 Speaker 1: Take the bat? 00:47:41 Speaker 4: Where are you gonna plan? 00:47:42 Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm playing first. 00:47:44 Speaker 4: I can't move Bryce. Bryce is not moving the middle of the season, and I'm not sure Bryce is ever moving. So hard to do. 00:47:52 Speaker 2: Last name on my back the square peg. 00:47:55 Speaker 1: Round hole or vice versa. 00:47:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, I get that. The last name on my bad hit her list is Harrison Bader. 00:48:05 Speaker 4: Having an okay yeah in Minnesota? Yeah, field a little bit. 00:48:13 Speaker 2: You're not a batter guy? Eleven home runs, mister guy? 00:48:17 Speaker 3: Yeah? 00:48:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, why not? 00:48:22 Speaker 4: Sixty seven? 00:48:24 Speaker 1: Yes? 00:48:24 Speaker 3: I don't think he's that good of an outfielder. Think he's a terrible center fielder. Yeah, I shouldn't say terrible. 00:48:30 Speaker 1: I don't think. 00:48:32 Speaker 2: So. 00:48:33 Speaker 3: Again. 00:48:33 Speaker 2: Of all, if you could snap your fingers and make something happen of all those names we just went through. 00:48:40 Speaker 4: Well, in a perfect will, you're doing bus but Buckston and Duran, let's go. 00:48:46 Speaker 1: That would be that. 00:48:47 Speaker 2: Now, that would be a move that would get everybody excited. That would get the guys in the bullpen excited, That would get the guys in the road. I would get that that whole team would be so juiced to have Buckston. Where would you hit Buxton in that little Bold. 00:48:59 Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna say five guys to get five guys to get those two guys correct, trade them all? 00:49:07 Speaker 2: Could you do it without getting giving up? Andrew Painter? 00:49:11 Speaker 3: Uh, if he could do for Abel Crawford, Aiden Miller, Tay and Escobar. 00:49:21 Speaker 1: Go ahead. 00:49:23 Speaker 2: It's four top one hundred prospects and one former top one hundred prospect done. 00:49:28 Speaker 4: And then you have to have an You have to say prayers that Buxton stays healthy. I know he's having a great year. 00:49:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, and he won't and he won't, but he's a he's a dynamic player when he is. 00:49:41 Speaker 2: Yeah, you think that, the fact that he's got so many years left in Hi. I love it, Ruben, I love it. 00:49:48 Speaker 1: Ruben. 00:49:48 Speaker 4: Your energy is much better than your internet tonight. 00:49:51 Speaker 2: No, you know that might be my internet. Actually I don't know. 00:49:54 Speaker 1: I think it's his internet. 00:49:56 Speaker 4: I don't know. 00:49:58 Speaker 2: I don't know whose internet it is, but it. 00:50:00 Speaker 4: Must be the trade deadline. It gets you fired up, Ruben. 00:50:03 Speaker 3: I love trade dead allies, man, Nothing like it, especially when you're buying. 00:50:07 Speaker 2: Ruben real quick before we go, like so give us, like when you were making these you know, twenty ten, two thousand and nine, you're getting cliff Lee, right, you're trying to get Cliff Lee. You're trying to get Royal. How often during the day are you actually talking to these gms? Is it just all text? Is it email? Is it phone calls? How often are you reaching back out to them? Is like, I'll get back to you tomorrow. You know, somebody else reaches out. What's what's that like? Real quick? 00:50:36 Speaker 3: It's NonStop nowadays because it's automatic as far as the text is concerned. I mean, I like, I like talking, but the texting became a real issue and the real thing later on, as as you know, towards the end of my tenure, a lot of texting just to set things up, just to talk and then call to me. This is not on stop man twenty four or seven for about two weeks. Baby, let's go, Time to go, my favorite time. Really fun. 00:51:09 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean it's it's an exciting time. And you know, if you're the Phillies, see what they can do with the trade doll. 00:51:17 Speaker 4: So yeah, we covered a lot of names. 00:51:20 Speaker 1: We did. 00:51:21 Speaker 4: If they trade for somebody that wasn't on our list, we're gonna feel like losers. 00:51:25 Speaker 2: Well, you know what's funny, though, is Jim you know, it's so funny beauty of the game, But Jim, I was thinking, I was literally thinking about this. I was like, I said, if we were doing this last year, we. 00:51:37 Speaker 4: Never tear backs. 00:51:38 Speaker 2: You never would have talked about Austin Hayes. Was Austin Hayes mentioned anywhere with the Phillies or ever connected to the Phillies. Was anybody going, you know what, they should go out, they should go again Austin Hayes. Then they got Austin Hayes. 00:51:54 Speaker 1: Hey, I feel. 00:51:55 Speaker 3: Like there wasn't no fan fans were clamoring for, like the big name and you know the top of them. You know, the bottom line is this, if they help you win, it doesn't matter what the name is. If honestly, yeah, you love to have the name and the pedigree. 00:52:12 Speaker 1: I believe in that. 00:52:13 Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, it's about who is going to contribute to this team and if they feel like there's other people out there that can do that, more power to them. 00:52:23 Speaker 1: Man, It's all about bottom line. It's a bottom line game, baby, It's win baby, and that's it. 00:52:29 Speaker 4: I feel like the last couple of years they were kind of in the market for more marginal guys, and this year it is very very clear they need a hammer at the back of the bullpen. So that's why I think the focus is so much on bigger names this year. 00:52:49 Speaker 2: I'd be great to see what happens. 00:52:50 Speaker 1: Guys. 00:52:51 Speaker 2: That was fun. 00:52:52 Speaker 4: That was a long, one, long long podcast. 00:52:55 Speaker 3: You know. 00:52:55 Speaker 2: It's fun though it's talking trays to get going through all these names. We'll see where they end at. 00:53:00 Speaker 1: Up. 00:53:00 Speaker 2: We'll be back next We'll we'll be back next week. We'll talk angels. We'll be talking more trades. A lot of stuff coming up. 00:53:08 Speaker 1: Smelly latter boys, Lease spelling you, Jim. 00:53:12 Speaker 2: The Philly Show is brought to you by the Foul Territory Network.
