I mean, that was unbelievable performance. We got to start with talking Eagles. Of course, we are the Philly Show, but I mean that performance yesterday was you know, Sunday was so much fun and everything about it just a total crushing of the chiefs, you know, and not some run of the you know, day by night whatever you say, squad and trying to win three straight. What do you guys think? I mean, it's so much fun to watch. I mean, so many great moments. Like I said, I lost my voice on the pick six, I'm screaming my face off. Oh go go.

Speaker 4: Such a young team and they have such a you know, with all this experience now, and they know how to win, and they're so talented. You could see this, you know, some exciting winters coming up. I have to admit I was a little worried because I just sensed the town was so confident. I was like, Okay, you still gotta play this game. They are a very good team, they've won two in a they have great talent. We know all about that great talent. But the Eagles totally neutralized the great talent in red uniforms from the you know, from Andy Reid to the quarterback to the big tight end, neutralized him all. And I thought Vic Fangio should have been the MVP. Or every time I looked up Josh Schwett because he had that undershirt on, he could really pick him out. He was in their backfield making a big play with the rest of the defensive line. And hats off to whoever identified that Cooper Dejean in the second round. What a pick, What a ballplayer, what an athlete, what a motor that kid has? My only question is can he lead off and play center field.

Speaker 5: First thing I said when I saw Michael Vick out there, fired the ball and rugh it all over the place. Love to have him in center field. But I gotta tell you, I am as a proud Philadelphian man, couldn't be more happy. And what a job by Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lourie and all the folks that I mean, it starts at the top. But I mean Nick Sirianni he you know, he and Jalen Hurts some redemption there.

Speaker 5: Really a team, really, it really was a great team effort. Everybody contributed to this game. I mean, Dotson had a couple of catches. I mean, you know, they sort of neutralized Squon and they concentrated so much on Saquan and it sort of opened things up for Jalen Hurts, but Jalen had to to rise to the occasion and did so. He's a winner, man, He's a winner. I love his makeup, love the way he goes about it. Just to really satisfying. Wonderful, wonderful win for the city, for the fans, for the organization, and for all Philadelphians.

Speaker 2: Way to go, thoroughly satisfying because of just what the Chiefs were and what they were trying to accomplish. And then you think back, I kind of somebody pointed this out this morning, but they destroyed the Commanders in the NFC Championship game. So just two of the greatest football football games you'll ever see from the Eagles, maybe in their history, back to back at the biggest times ever. You know, it was.

Speaker 5: I told somebody before the game that I thought there's gonna be a four in front of our number as far as they're scoring, and there was. But I will tell you this, they might be the best professional team ever in the history of Philadelphia sports. They might be that good and that deep, and you still combine all the things with the coaching and the whole piece of it.

Speaker 5: I mean, they totally dismantled maybe one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game and one of the best coaches.

Speaker 4: A lot of respect and admiration for Nick Sirianni. I mean a year ago, at this time, he was under a microscope. They had had a big fold down the stretch he was. He was, you know, in the crosshairs, not only in the public eye, but from from the people he works for. You know, they were basically digging in to see if he was the right guy. And he emerges from this and he reshuffles his coaching staff and they put different guys around him, coordinators, and he didn't take it personal, and he just I think he's a really good connector of people. He rose up after a year ago he's in a tough situation, and a year later he's he's on top of the sporting world. So I just see him as a really good person. He sees I don't know the guy, but he seems like a hell of a good guy.

Speaker 5: And I will tell you then, when Howie Rosemand tired him. He said, Reuben, he's a great coach, but he's a really he's a better person. He said that a long time ago, three or four years ago when they first hired him, and seems like he is the other thing. I got to give some love to Jeffrey Lurry for sort of parking Howie and Roseman to the side and bringing him back. Now, you know, won them two super Bowls and got a chance to really create a dynasty and a legacy there that's pretty special. And Howie Rosemen making the adjustments and making the changes he had to make to be the executive that he is pretty extraordinarant.

Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of great stories of redemption, no great lessons that you can always get better, you can always improve yourself, you can always rebound from tough times, from adversity. You can always take on that obstacle and run it over and be king of the hill again. So, you know, really a lot of great lessons in that team in green uniforms and very entertaining season.

Speaker 2: You guys are so right talking about redemption stories. I remember every time you turn on the radio or read something online about Nick Siriani and Jalen Hurts last year? Can he can Jalen Hurts win the Big Game? Is he an elite quarterback? Is he middle of the road? You know? Is Nick Sirianni? What's this guy do? Is he even deserve a job? And it just tells I did see some parallels there with the Phillies and kind of maybe them coming into the season going they didn't add anybody of significance. They can't win the Big Game as constructed.

Philly's pitchers and catchers have their first official workout in Clearwater on Wednesday. Jim and I are flying down to Clearwater. We're going to be reporting. Ruben's going to be down there throughout the spring broadcasting. We are really all really excited to get down there, Ruben. I want to ask, Oh my gosh, my voice keeps cracking. Guys, It's okay.

Speaker 2: That's right, Ruben. When you think about this spring, is there a thing or two that you look toward or are looking forward to seeing, or most interested in seeing. His camp opens on Wednesday? What would that be for you?

Speaker 5: Uh So, I got a couple of things. One is I want to see what Bryson starts bringing to the table. I want to see he's a really important piece to me. I don't he's playing in the middle of the field. I'm not worried about his defense. I just want to see, like where he is mentally. I want to see where Alec bowm is mentally. Does he walk into that clubhouse and go, okay, man, I'm here, I'm going to do my thing. I'm I'm ready to go and you know, put all the bs behind me and go play.

Speaker 3: And then finally, Lozardo, I'm intrigued by him. I think he's going to be a great piece. Those those three things.

Speaker 1: But I want to see how Alec Bowm walks in Number one.

Speaker 4: I hope he's got a good, healthy chip on his shoulder and a smile on his face, and I hope he comes in feeling like, you know, he's on top of the world. He's I hope he walks in feeling like he's gonna have the best year of his career, the best two years of his career, coming off back to back ninety seven RBI seasons. Time to put the off season behind him. The rumors and all that stuff. I don't you know, they I don't think they were fictitious. I think they were real. I think I think they were doing more than listening. I think they were initiating. But the fact of the matter is Alec Bohm is an awfully good player who's getting better, who is really important to the middle of that lineup because he's a right handed contact stick and now they need a big year from him, and he needs a big year him for himself. So I want to see, you know, just how he comes in. Hopefully he's in a great attitude. Like I said, I'm looking forward to having the best two seasons of his career before free agency and number two, I would, you know, I'm interested see what Ranger looks like, what type of shape he's in physically and mentally, if he's ready to kind of bite the head off of nail and go out there and really prove something in his walk, hear, because that'll be win win, That'll be win win for.

Speaker 1: The Phillies and for Rangers.

Speaker 4: Suarez and I do think you can read a little bit into a guy's mindset, body language early in camp kind of he needs to be on a mission. And the third thing I'm kind of interested to see maybe more like when the games start and maybe even speaking with him early on, does Tray Turner have that willingness to kind of use the whole field a little bit, which I think the Phillies they're hitting crew, hitting coaches and whatnot. Rob Thompson, Dave Debroski, they all believe that staying on the ball longer, using the rest of the field will cut down on some of his baby swing and miss and some of his chase. And if he can do that, we know what type of electric player he is. I mean, if he can do that, he can compete for batting title. If he can get some more selectivity. I mean, he's I think you want a batting title before he's a He's a guy who you can get beginning to end consistency from offensively and the guy they need that from. And maybe he's going to hit lead off, but an important guy, and so you know, can he kind of use that whole field and not get so pull happy. It'll he'll he'll be more of a weapon offensively if he does.

Speaker 5: And the other thing I'll just mentioned off of that, Jim is how much is he going to run?

Speaker 3: Is he going to hit in front of Harper? Does Harper not want him to run in front of him? Is that? Are they going to cut him loose?

Speaker 5: Are they going to utilize that piece of his game more so than they did last year?

Speaker 3: I think it's been really important for him to do so.

Speaker 5: Because that's a real weapon in his game and I like to see him closer to forty bags than thirty, and maybe closer to fifty bags, because he could do it, and I know I'll see it, and you know, it'll be interesting to see how he rebounds from like having that injury to his hamstring, whether that really affects him long term, or if he can you know, run a couple of forty or fifty stolen based seasons back to back before he starts to decline.

Speaker 2: Well, a couple of things that I want to kind of follow up, a couple of things that you guys said. I will be interested really that that whatever day Alec Bohm speaks to the media, Jim, what kind of how he handles that? I guess. Does he come in crack a joke? Does he smiled? Is he like, hey, you know, you guys surprised to see me? You know? Does he come in and like, oh, you guys want to talk to me and have a bad attitude. I don't expect Alec to do that. I think he's you know, he's dealt with some serious adversity with the Phillies before, so, but I am curious to see how he handles it. It could be a real tone setter. You know, guy could be hitting third this year, so you know you kind of want him to come in with the right frame of mind. But you're right, he should come in go and I'm gonna have two monster years for the Phillies and then let the cards fall where they may down the road, and then, yeah, we like seeing Trey run a little bit more is going to be interesting. Will he do that? I know he has said to me and others, you know, the past year, I just don't run as much because I got I got Bryce hitting right behind me, So you know, I just I don't run as much. Maybe there's a way around that where you can kind of force the issue a little bit more so, But yeah, Alec Bohum is definitely interesting. I kind of wrote about some of this the other day in my newsletter, the Phillies Beat newsletter that I do for MLB dot com, and Jim I Ranger was at the top of my list because you know, we've heard, you know, JT talk about him. We had Klebon last month and Rob Thompson on recently, all talk about Ranger and how man, if he's healthy and ready to go, he's one of the best control gumes guys in the game. He was arguably the best pitcher in baseball the first two and a half three months of the season. So man, if he comes into camp in great shape with that eye of the tiger, he has a big year. Oh baby, that rotation looks really, really good. So I'm curious to see kind of what he looks like coming into camp. And then Rubin you mentioned Hazes Lusizzardo coming off an injury. I'm curious to see what he looks like. But I'm also curious to see what Max Kepler looks like. They're banking on him a lot, a guy who has not really been able to stay healthy in his career. I don't think he's had more than four or ninety played appearances in the season since twenty nineteen. He hasn't He's hit lefties sometimes occasionally, but not great. But they say he's their everyday left fielders, so he's gonna have to I want to see what he looks like coming off that core surgery that he had in October in Philadelphia. And then of course Jordan Romano, they you know, he's been thrown. I think JT said he caught him, you know, last month or whatever. And man, he's he's a huge piece because they didn't really sign anybody other than you know, after losing Hoffmann and the Stevas, so I got Joe Ross, but I'm talking end piece. So curious to see what those three three guys are like and then big picture whyse down the road, you know, kind of curious to you, I aid Miller, I want to see justin Crawford how they handle camp. You know, I'm gonna see what Mick Abel does. I talked to him recently, and you know, he's he's trying to simplify things in the mound and not being you know, thinking so much about mechanics and maybe analytics and your pitch shape and stuff, and just kind of focusing on just what am I doing to get guys out. Curious to see how he performs and yeah, some of these young guys, Andrew Painter, of course he's not going to pitch any games probably, but and just maybe see what he looks like in bullpen sessions, get the opinions of Stubbs and Marshawn and and JT afterwards, to kind of see what you got going going from those guys. But there's so much stuff they'll look forward to I think this spring and and like we kind of said at the beginning, just because they've kind of taken a step back in the postseasons the last two years, I don't think that this team is running it back and they're not going to compete. You talk to them as people around baseball, They'll say, Phillies are right there. You know, the Dodgers are the favorites, but the Phillies, the Phillies are right there.

Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean when we had JT on on last week, and if you haven't listened to that episode, go back and listened to it, because he was great. I thought he was great. He's always super insightful. But yeah, I think when he says he's excited about the team, really likes the team. I believe he believes that. I don't think he's just going like, I don't think it's lip service with JT. I think that this team really does believe that they played just a little bit better in the postseason, they can beat the Dodgers and they can go on and win the World Series. Speaking of JT, when you think back to that interview, what stood out to you, guys, is anything anything new that you learned or whatever that you know you kind of were interested in.

Speaker 3: Well, the cool thing about him is that the man doesn't want to sit down. I mean, the man wants to play.

Speaker 5: He's and I think he also I just get this feeling and he loves his team so much and that he's cognizant of being a free agent after the year. I got to believe that he really wants to be here because I think he enjoys it here.

Speaker 5: Life here and I think he's really enjoyed his experience here, and I got to believe that he wants to stay. It'll be interesting to see how they attack that free agent, isn't you know, pending free agency.

This is this is a destination major League baseball city, you know, and even with Yamamoto and the other Japanese players going elsewhere, this is the place, you know. I mean Roy Halladay wanted to be here, Cliff Lee wanted to be here. There was a little bit of a lull, but Bryce Harper, jt Real mudeauz, Zach Wheeler, they all wanted.

Speaker 4: You know, it will continue to be a destiny nation because they have a good ownership and they're gonna win a lot of ball games. But you know, the ultimate is winning the World Series, and that's what everybody top to bottom wants. But I would think JT would love to end his career here and would I would bet Kyle Schwarmer probably feels the same way. There's a guy that's also going to be a free agent at the end of the year, so they have some tough calls, but I would be willing to bet management would love to extend the relationship with both guys because both guys bring so much to the table.

Speaker 5: I mean from top to bottom, whether it's the PR people, the cr people, the family people, all the people that are involved with taking care of the players. They do everything they possibly can do to make the player feel comfortable here. Not only with the payroll, because the payroll is what number three and all of baseball, it's astronomical. They want to win or number two, whatever it is. It's astronomical because the ownership wants to win, and the coaching staff wants to win, and all those players they want to win too, And I think that's that creates a great environment there, and obviously the fans want to win because there's passionate as anybody on the planet. So why wouldn't you want to play in Philadelphia and a great ballpark and a great city that's that's good to support them.

Speaker 2: You're right. I have heard players say that after they leave. And obviously, if you're gonna get ten million dollars more to play for another team, you're gonna you need to take that money. I get it. But I've talked to enough players over the years after they leave, they go, Man, they just don't treat us like they do in Philly. Man, they really they really take it to my family in Philly. They really do an excellent job with the families and just taking care of people and doing the right thing. And that that's a nice little perk that they get. So let's let's wrap this up. This is something we've been wanting to do for a while. So I did a book signing at the Shy Ventured Sports and Wheelhouse Cards and uh in Ardmore back in December, and I was talking about baseball cards with the guys there, Charles and Ryan Michael and and they said, hey, want to want to open up some packs of cards, and so he gave us. He gave me three packs of tops Chrome. I'm showing this if you're watching this on YouTube, Tops Chrome twenty twenty four. And this is the idea was, guys at the time. We're about a month late, but the idea was at the time we would open these up and one of us would hit the Paul Skins Rookie card and we'd be we'd be a millionaires. Paul Paul Skan's card has been found by an eleven year old out in California, so it looks like he's going to college. Some were pretty nice down the road, but that, yeah, real nice. But I thought we would still hope we each got a pack of cards, and if if you're watching on YouTube, we'll show you the cards and and maybe uh you know, we'll we'll talk about some of these. Let's see what we get. So again, the Paul Skins Skeen's card is gone, but there I was like, super frae. Yeah, those are still worth some money. So you get like a one of one.
