[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, grow squad. [SPEAKER_00]: How are you doing this week? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Eugene Hamilton and I want to welcome you to another episode of the Eugene Hamilton podcast man I hope that you've been enjoying this this this this last stretch of episodes I mean, I think that they all are pretty good, but I've really been kind of dowd in because I believe There too many people are living beneath their privilege [SPEAKER_00]: I believe the too many people are allowing circumstances other individuals to kind of speak over their lives in a negative way and I want to invite you. [SPEAKER_00]: to just refresh and so I hope you've been you've been paying attention and you've been sharing hope that you would like subscribe and share today as well as we get ready for another hot episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's pray God we thank you for this moment in time. [SPEAKER_00]: Think of that we are alive to experience life and life more abundantly. [SPEAKER_00]: Give us now what we need we pray. [SPEAKER_00]: Amen. [SPEAKER_00]: Today I want to talk about [SPEAKER_00]: the power of the pause, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, in life there, you know, it's funny. [SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever been going, I mean, a hundred miles an hour. [SPEAKER_00]: This is figuratively speaking. [SPEAKER_00]: You've been going super fast toward a goal, toward a dream, toward whatever, toward, I mean, your degree, you've been going super fast and then life just happened and you had to accept [SPEAKER_00]: I remember had to accept the fact that I had some momentum, you know, I was listening to an individual who had just gotten let go from their job and they said the main thing for them was not so much, they weren't just so much shocked at the job clothes or that they went with another talent, the individual, they thought that they're momentum. [SPEAKER_00]: right. [SPEAKER_00]: We're so good that they couldn't be denied working that job any longer. [SPEAKER_00]: They thought that, hey, listen, we've got so much cohesiveness, so much momentum. [SPEAKER_00]: There's nowhere in the world they're going to break us up and stop what we got going on and then boom, fired. [SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes, [SPEAKER_00]: life will bring you to a place where you have to endure and use endure in a very loose way. [SPEAKER_00]: We have to endure the pause. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a scripture that, in fact, it's just ironic. [SPEAKER_00]: My shirt references Psalm 23 and the 23rd Psalm, if you ever read it in the Bible, I invite you to read it. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I'll show up with the load as my ship, but I'll show it and I want. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the very next phrase says, he makes me lie down in green pastures. [SPEAKER_00]: And I've looked at that text, I've dissected that text before. [SPEAKER_00]: I've even given a message about that lying down in green pastures and every now and again, right, the good shepherd. [SPEAKER_00]: And for your context, it could be someone that cares about you. [SPEAKER_00]: It could be someone that you work for. [SPEAKER_00]: Someone that is looking out for you. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes they will institute a pause in your life. [SPEAKER_00]: It will cause you to stop. [SPEAKER_00]: But one of the things I do and talking to leaders and educators across the country is to often remind them about the power. [SPEAKER_00]: of stopping each week and taking care of themselves, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, having, I wouldn't even say a luxury, but it sounds like it's a luxury now, because we've got so many things going on. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got kids to that baseball practice, kids in the choir, kids in gymnastics. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got spouses, we've got to make sure we have date night. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like we, there's something always on the calendar, always moving, always. [SPEAKER_00]: My wife and I went on vacation this year, we rarely get a chance to just get out the two of us usually, right? [SPEAKER_00]: We have our son with us, which is a blessing in the blast, but haven't now and again. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, hey, man, we got a press pause on you, Justin. [SPEAKER_00]: But no, we went on vacation last year and you know, we were at this spot and, you know, the ocean was there and there's swimming pools with there and all kinds of amenities with there. [SPEAKER_00]: And you know what we enjoyed doing more, we never, we never got in the pool. [SPEAKER_00]: We never put our feet in the sand. [SPEAKER_00]: We just took four days to rest. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, rest doesn't always look like sleeping or laying in the bed. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes, rest is just doing maybe something that you like. [SPEAKER_00]: As opposed to something that you have to do. [SPEAKER_00]: Makes sense. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes, rest is engaging in gardening or engaging in a hobby. [SPEAKER_00]: I just say not a habit, but a hobby engaging in something that brings me some kind of new life. [SPEAKER_00]: I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: connected to anything that is remotely close to lying on the couch but sometimes in life the pause does not just give us an opportunity to rest but sometimes the pause that happens in our lives gives us the opportunity to re-evaluate [SPEAKER_00]: what's important to us. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I would encourage you if you at a point in your life where things are at a standstill where you've had to press pause where things have happened in such a way [SPEAKER_00]: that the only answer in this season is to pause. [SPEAKER_00]: I number one, want to invite you to embrace it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know, I know you like staying busy because it keeps your mind off of what you need to handle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm talking to you. [SPEAKER_00]: I know you like being at work every day and working over time and double over time because you don't have to handle. [SPEAKER_00]: those difficult relationships at your house. [SPEAKER_00]: So you'd rather work keep you away from the house. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to go and face the music. [SPEAKER_00]: I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: I listen. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been around for a few years. [SPEAKER_00]: I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't like the pause because you've got to ask you spend time with your kids. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm talking to you. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't like the pause. [SPEAKER_00]: Right? [SPEAKER_00]: Because you've got to face the fact that you haven't grieved over the loss of a loved one. [SPEAKER_00]: You haven't, you don't like the pause. [SPEAKER_00]: Because pause, because busyness pulls you away from having a process that divorce. [SPEAKER_00]: Life has changed, but you determine not to change. [SPEAKER_00]: So you're staying busy. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to invite you to embrace the pause. [SPEAKER_00]: Because in embracing the pause, check this out, when embracing the pause, you give yourself an opportunity to deal with life. [SPEAKER_00]: And in embracing the pause, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Now you have a chance to reevaluate, you have a chance to look at all the things that you have, proverbially, tucked under your bed. [SPEAKER_00]: Put them in the back of the trunk. [SPEAKER_00]: You said to yourself, I'll get to this stuff, lay it on for now, I gotta work, I gotta grind. [SPEAKER_00]: You know how we do? [SPEAKER_00]: I'll put in that work. [SPEAKER_00]: You haven't dealt with those things that could be him, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That could be showing up in your health. [SPEAKER_00]: That stress is a killer. [SPEAKER_00]: You haven't addressed those things because you've been so busy. [SPEAKER_00]: But your body sometimes is telling you because you haven't addressed those issues that you're having with your spouse or your family members or kids. [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're in a season right now where you have to pause, I would invite you to face the music and don't fight the pause. [SPEAKER_00]: What are you trying to teach me? [SPEAKER_00]: What lessons do I need to learn? [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I would invite you to do in the polls to keep your mouth closed because you don't have all the answers. [SPEAKER_00]: You got two ears and one mouth. [SPEAKER_00]: I think for a very important reason. [SPEAKER_00]: Listen more than you talk. [SPEAKER_00]: Figure out what is it. [SPEAKER_00]: or that this pause is trying to teach me that will help me get the next season. [SPEAKER_00]: Number two, the pause helps us to cultivate patients. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_00]: We live in a world right now that is super fast, paste. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I would hate for you to have to have been around when the internet first came into existence. [SPEAKER_00]: I would hate if you'd have to live during that time where [SPEAKER_00]: That thing would do the dial-up, do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do [SPEAKER_00]: But, man, but, you know, it's so crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, you can skip commercials, skip ads. [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes, appalls in our lives and in our life, as it's a, gives us access, to patients, gives us access to, [SPEAKER_00]: an opportunity for us to be a character, sometimes the pause gives us a lesson that we don't learn. [SPEAKER_00]: When we are running, nonstop, and then last of the pause, because we are wired at least [SPEAKER_00]: It's like I'm always chasing short-term goals. [SPEAKER_00]: Like I rarely sit down and because in my mind I guess I think that if I reach all these short-term goals the long-term goals will take you to themselves. [SPEAKER_00]: So we said to ourselves, let me set this goal for the week or this goal for the month or this goal for these quarter and I reach that right. [SPEAKER_00]: Most of us don't think long-term and I get it. [SPEAKER_00]: because long-term just seems long-term. [SPEAKER_00]: Who wants to think five, ten years down the line? [SPEAKER_00]: It's sometimes depressing to think, oh, in five years, I'll be blah, blah, blah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it's like, it's like it's a long time to work towards, so let me, what am I going to be in five minutes? [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be in five days. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me work towards the next five months, right? [SPEAKER_00]: I'll get it. [SPEAKER_00]: What's sometimes the pause helps us to vision cast long-term and not just short-term. [SPEAKER_00]: This doesn't the pause allows us to turn the delay into an opportunity to grow in the area of long-term visioning. [SPEAKER_00]: So let me invite you to use this time where the pause has taken a route. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember the first time I had a major pause in my life, I was transitioning from one job to another and then that job shut down. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm trying to figure out, you talk about a pause. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to figure out what's next. [SPEAKER_00]: and that Paul's helped me put together my next step, my next steps, that Paul's helped me prepare for what was in store for me, that Paul's, how can I say it, worked in my favor? [SPEAKER_00]: So let me invite you to use the Paul's to your advantage and let the rest work itself out. [SPEAKER_00]: Send this to somebody who, [SPEAKER_00]: it's in a delay in their life. [SPEAKER_00]: Send it to somebody who right now they can't understand why things aren't moving faster. [SPEAKER_00]: Send this to somebody right now who's saying to themselves, this pause is punishing me. [SPEAKER_00]: And I would suggest that the pause is not a punishment. [SPEAKER_00]: The pause is just simply preparation. [SPEAKER_00]: So you think about that, as you contemplate that, hope that the rest of your week is blessed, certainly highly favorite, and I hope that it's filled with opportunities to go, to grow, and to grow. [SPEAKER_00]: Until next time, take care of yourselves. [SPEAKER_00]: See you soon, peace.
