00:00:01 Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, what's up. It's Bachelor Happy Hour. We're back with another exclusive interview for you today. I'm here with my husband and co host Joe. 00:00:10 Speaker 2: Thank you for the introduction. See, I didn't do that for you last time. 00:00:14 Speaker 1: Last time we were here, Joe did not introduce me. Healing introduce himself. So I'm taking over with the intro today. 00:00:19 Speaker 2: I like it. I like it. 00:00:20 Speaker 1: And we are also here with the lovely Mercedes. We are so happy to have you. She is one of the members of the new season of Bachelor and Paradise, so we're excited to talk to her today, and she was also on Zach's season of The Bachelor. Mercedes, how are you doing? 00:00:37 Speaker 3: I'm doing good. How are you guys? 00:00:39 Speaker 1: We're good. 00:00:40 Speaker 2: We're good. I'm chilling now because I don't I mean, Serena took my job and I'm fine. 00:00:46 Speaker 3: Big. It's eyday for you, Joe. 00:00:48 Speaker 2: Yeah chilling, I'm chilling. Yeah, this, Mercedes, So we're doing this is more like for our listeners to get to know you a little a little more. You are obviously on Zach's season, and you also been at Clickbait. 00:01:01 Speaker 3: Right yes, yep, with you and Jill. Yeah. 00:01:04 Speaker 2: Oh it was me and Jill. 00:01:05 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:01:07 Speaker 2: Nice, nice, Joe's good, Joel's good. So what have you been up to since last time we saw you? Yeah, that's a broad you know what. You know what, that's a broad question. Let me just have you uh now, let's stick with you. 00:01:24 Speaker 1: Joe doesn't know what to do with himself now that he didn't do the intro or ses. So since Zach season, which is last time we saw you, what have you been up to? Where are you living, what are you doing? How's life? 00:01:35 Speaker 3: Yeah? So after Zach season, I came back to Nashville. So before I went on Zach season, I had four jobs. So I had a very busy life, always on the go, and I was kind of like, you know what, my life was just crazy, Like I'm going to take a second and just relax and figure out what I want to do. So I've just been volunteering a lot places and just trying to figure out, like what I want to do. I love nonprofits and I want to work with them. So yeah, just volunteering at a ton of places, working at a bar on the side, which is late nights, but it's fun and Nashville is like the perfect place to do that I feel like I meet so many new people every day, which is so fun. 00:02:14 Speaker 2: Yeah, the Bar, Power Bar, Bar, All Barstools, Nashville Bar. 00:02:21 Speaker 3: Yep, yep. It's open like a few months ago. So I went there and it's it's fun, to say the least, it's crazy, but it's fun. 00:02:29 Speaker 2: Do you have any bartending experience prior? 00:02:33 Speaker 3: I've been serving since I was like probably sixteen seventeen, But no, no bartending, Nope. 00:02:41 Speaker 1: And then what were your four jobs before you were on the show. That is an exceptional amount of jobs, I. 00:02:48 Speaker 3: Know, girl, I was like all over the place, but I did free lamp modeling. I worked for a nonprofit called Nashville Angels, and I was a case manager and I was like with the Phosphere system, I was a server. And then what was my fourth job? 00:03:05 Speaker 2: Girls got so many jobs? She remember? 00:03:07 Speaker 3: I know, I don't even remember. I don't remember what the fourth one was. Oh uh, social media marketing for a little company. 00:03:13 Speaker 1: Amazing. Wow. 00:03:16 Speaker 2: So when you're your bar, you're bartending on a busy Friday night, what is one drink that you dread to have to make? 00:03:24 Speaker 3: Oh? Well, they have like specialty cocktails, so those are always like annoying, I guess, but because this is easier. If someone's like, hey, cosmego soda. Sure, like that's easy, but like a beer, Yeah, yeah, I like the easy stuff. 00:03:40 Speaker 2: I have one more bartending question for you, because we actually had I had an argument argument with my friends over this. Okay, So when I go, when you go to a restaurant and you order, you sit down in order, you usually tip, like we usually tip between twenty and twenty five percent. That's that's the usual. 00:03:59 Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think it's like fifteen to twenty percent between there. 00:04:03 Speaker 2: Well, now they're even up in it now, not like the bottom's twenty In New York, it's like twenty to thirty. But that's besides the point. When you order a drink as a bartender, are you expecting if let's say I go and I order, uh, let's say there's four of us and I order four drinks from you, are you expecting a twenty percent tip? 00:04:25 Speaker 3: I think it depends on the place, Like obviously, if you're like at a really nice restaurant, definitely, because those are harder to make. But it's just like some simple drinks that take me like five not even five minutes, usually like two bucks a drink. But everyone's different. I'm not, Like, I don't know. That's such a hard question because everyone has so many different Like, you know, because in Tennessee, servers and bartenders make two dollars and thirteen cents an hour. 00:04:54 Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, yeah. 00:04:56 Speaker 3: Literally two dollars and thirteen cents an hour. So like the tips is like what we make and it's all too Yeah. 00:05:02 Speaker 1: That is insane. How is that legal? That is insane to me? 00:05:07 Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it's like so below minimal wage. 00:05:10 Speaker 1: No that it's like nothing. 00:05:12 Speaker 3: I know, but that's the minimum wage in Tennessee for servers and bartenders. 00:05:16 Speaker 1: Is like just because the hospitality industry is so popping there that they know that you can like make a lot of tips. 00:05:24 Speaker 3: Yeah, probably, I guess. But even like in Iowa when I was in college and serving, I think we only made like six dollars an hour. 00:05:32 Speaker 2: They must be doing that because there's a work through with tips. That's the only way they get away with it because there's a minimum wage that they're obviously not meeting. But I will say, so what I usually do is if I if I run a tab, I'm gonna tip twenty percent after the end of it. But if I just go up in order, if I go up and I get a bear for myself and a drink for Serena, I'm probably tipping like, you know, five ten bucks. 00:06:00 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think that people do. And yeah they're different too, Like when you run it up to like one hundred bucks or something, then you took twenty. But if you're just grabbing a few drinks and it literally takes me two seconds to do it, and I'm like, okay. 00:06:13 Speaker 2: But now know one that you guys are only making two bucks an hour, and now I now have to at least yeah, for real, geez, I know it's okay. 00:06:22 Speaker 3: Never I tell people that, they're like, well. 00:06:25 Speaker 1: That is crazy. So since last time we saw, you are living in Nashville, you're volunteering, you're working as a bartender. Have you been keeping up with the show. Did you watch Charity season? 00:06:38 Speaker 3: Oh? Yes, I watched my girl Charity and she did so good and I'm so happy for her and. 00:06:43 Speaker 4: Don in. 00:06:45 Speaker 3: Me Charity, kat Kylie and Jess and I just went to Miami, like thin, it's probably a month ago now, but just seeing how happy she was and like, I just know their love is so real and I'm so happy for her. And I thought the season was great at she held herself so well and same with him and all the other guys too. I thought it was just a great season all around. 00:07:06 Speaker 1: It was a really good season. 00:07:07 Speaker 2: What went down in Miami. 00:07:10 Speaker 3: Oh gosh, we lived it up at Live We we really went hard. 00:07:15 Speaker 1: But it was a good time. 00:07:17 Speaker 3: Yeah, we went to fool parties. We just sat ourselves a girl weekend, you know. 00:07:22 Speaker 2: And out of the Miami crew, how many of you are Day one Paradise people? 00:07:29 Speaker 3: Four of us? 00:07:30 Speaker 1: So yeah, everyone except Charity. Yeah, which I would hope Charity is not a Day one because that means her and done very quickly. Didn't work out right? 00:07:39 Speaker 2: No, were you guys? Did you guys all talk about like, yeah, we're excited, we're all going did were you committed by then yet or not yet? 00:07:49 Speaker 3: Yeah? We were yeah, so sorry, no, go ahead. We were all super excited. I feel like we would literally call each other every day, like just anticipating, like what's gonna happened, who's gonna be there? It was so much fun and honestly, like Zac season, I met some of my best friends and I'm sure you can attest this too, like you get and you probably too, but you get so close with the cast and the girls, and so they literally became my best friends, and so being able to do this with them is such an amazing opportunity. And it was just it was so much fun. I had the best time. 00:08:26 Speaker 1: Did Charity like warn you about any of the guys going in Paradise that might be there, or did she try to like set anyone up in advance. 00:08:35 Speaker 3: She did give us like a little bit of a rundown on the dudes, nothing too crazy, because she also wanted us to like feel it out and have our own experience. She definitely told us, told us some things that maybe you wouldn't what, but it was all good. We still went down there with an open mind and had fun. All right. 00:09:00 Speaker 2: Hypothetical You're you're in Miami, you're single, but you're committed to going to Paradise. A guy walks up and you're super into him. You're really attracted to him, and he starts talking and you guys hit it off and you find out he lives where you live. 00:09:18 Speaker 3: Oh gosh, what do you do? 00:09:23 Speaker 1: You just met this guy? 00:09:24 Speaker 4: I understand you just meet him, but do you, do you continue the conversation and just maybe see where it goes within the month leading to Paradise or do you just like I'm leaving in a month and I'm not gonna even let myself potentially go there. 00:09:41 Speaker 3: M I feel like I would just let them know, like, hey, this is what I'm doing, like i've before I met you or anything like this, I'm doing this. Okay, like we can talk, but there's not going to be anything that comes out of it, you know. But just like I don't think getting to know someone is like a bad thing. As long as I'm like honest, then I don't see a problem with it. But I'm glad that didn't happen, though I would have been in the. 00:10:12 Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like you, I feel like everyone, like leading up to Paradise is like everyone going to Paris is obviously looking for someone, but the month leading up they're like I'm looking for no one, like no one, come find me, like no one. Like this is the first time that I'm like, don't even look at me, don't talk to me. I was in full lockdown in Canada because of the pandemic going into Paradise, so I was like this kind of works out because I couldn't meet anyone if I wanted. 00:10:37 Speaker 3: To write now, yeah, no for sure, and I'm like, no one even looked my way. Honestly, I cannot deal with anything like that. 00:10:45 Speaker 2: So how did you How did you prep for Paradise prep? 00:10:52 Speaker 3: No, Honestly, I got there and I'm like, why why did I not think anything through like my clothes like everything. I'm like, so funny because I feel like all the girls, like they all had like these dresses and like they looked so good. And obviously they brought like a few right, but I feel like Paradise was super chill. Like I'm like, oh, I'm going to be like in like you know, shorts and the top. Like, but every night the girls were like, oh no, we're being cute, like we're we're showing out, and I'm like, with what, Like look at my suitcase, I don't have anything. 00:11:26 Speaker 2: How many suitcases did you bring? 00:11:28 Speaker 3: Huh? 00:11:29 Speaker 2: How many suitcases did you bring? 00:11:31 Speaker 3: I brought two? Okay, yeah, so it's a lot of smoke. They just weren't like the Paradise VI. I don't really know what I was thinking. 00:11:39 Speaker 1: You know, I get it. I did not pat great for Paradise either. So I'm right there with you cause you're just kind of like, yeah, okay, like here's some dresses, like here's some jeans, shorts and bathing suits, like you had a pack, like you're going like to it all inclusive for like a week with your friends, and it's just that you're like, oh, yeah, I'm on TV literally just. 00:11:58 Speaker 3: Like fully forgot that. Fuck. I'm like you. 00:12:01 Speaker 1: Try to have like some one of these guys fall in love with me, Like maybe I should have been a little more strategic. 00:12:07 Speaker 3: Seriously, that was me. That was so bad. I remember Kylie like one night she was like, what, like what was going through your head? I'm like, dude, no idea. 00:12:15 Speaker 1: No nothing, nothing was going to your head. 00:12:18 Speaker 3: I was just like, we're doing it. I don't know what's going to happen. We'll see. 00:12:22 Speaker 2: I mean, I mean that's fair. That's how I packed for Paradise. I make it's a beach. I've been there before, work out now. 00:12:32 Speaker 3: I know. Congratulations by the way, oh thank you. 00:12:37 Speaker 2: Thank you. We're were there any guys, because yeah, you've been in this world for a little bit now where there is were there any guys that like slid into your d ms from batchination. 00:12:51 Speaker 3: There were like a few, but none of them went to the beach. 00:12:54 Speaker 2: Okay, was there anybody in particular you were hoping to see there? 00:12:59 Speaker 3: Yes? I was hoping. My like top guy was Tyler Norris. 00:13:03 Speaker 1: I was really Yeah, Tyler Norris off of Rachel's season and Paradise last season. 00:13:10 Speaker 2: And we see him that we see there's a spoiler and we see you say like he has forty five abs or something. 00:13:16 Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, yeah, that was me. 00:13:18 Speaker 3: I know Kylie's like Dutch little like him. 00:13:20 Speaker 2: I'm like, I do, we can't he's not He's not a Day one guy though, but we know he's there because we saw him in the teaser. 00:13:29 Speaker 1: Yes, what about Tyler made you interested? 00:13:36 Speaker 3: Honestly, I don't really know. I feel like because I didn't really watch Rachel and Gabby's season that much, not until the end, so I saw like a little bit of him, but I just felt like he just looks so sweet and kind and that like if there's one thing about me, like I feel like every guy like talked to her dated like if you look at them like you're just like, oh, he's like so sweet and like keep looking you know. So I feel like he just like definitely like matched my vibe. And yeah, just that was like the initial traction. I guess. 00:14:06 Speaker 1: Just so, do you have a physical like type because him and Zach I wouldn't say, like look alike, but they both have that kind of like similar like aesthetic. 00:14:16 Speaker 2: You know, well they both they both are they both have brown here. 00:14:19 Speaker 1: They're both like white like brown like kind of like like middle length hair, brown eyes. I don't know, like you put them in the similar category of looks. Yeah, you would say they look very different from one another. 00:14:32 Speaker 2: I'd say they look very different. 00:14:34 Speaker 1: No, no, like. 00:14:36 Speaker 3: They have like similarities, but I don't think they look alike. 00:14:39 Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I would say, like if you're like, oh, like my type is this, they could both fall into that category. 00:14:44 Speaker 3: Yeah for sure. Like I love guys with like dark hair, dark features, dark eyes, and then honestly just like pretty boys. I love pretty boys. I'm sucker for a pretty boy. 00:14:58 Speaker 2: Okay, so I would, but I see, but that's the thing. I don't think they fit in the over I think they're two different. I think they're there are two different categories. Like I would say, Tyler Tyler, right, Tyler Norris, Yeah, Tyler Norris is like pretty boy category, where Zach. 00:15:19 Speaker 1: Is more like less of a pretty boy. 00:15:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, he's more like, look. 00:15:23 Speaker 1: I'm just going off of like two white guys with brown hair. Okay, it wasn't that. 00:15:28 Speaker 2: I don't know. We're a podcast, so just just talking to talk, you know. Okay. Was there anybody that you don't get along with that you. 00:15:40 Speaker 1: Didn't want to see? 00:15:42 Speaker 3: No? No, I feel like, for the most part, I get along with everyone. So there was no one where I was like, oh my gosh, they're there, I'm gonna like freak out. No. I was excited to see everyone that I saw. 00:15:54 Speaker 2: Were you when you walk down those those steps? Were you nervous or excited? 00:15:58 Speaker 3: I was definitely nervous. It's like leading up to it and until you get to like top, because there's like a holding space, right, and then they're like all right time, and I'm like, oh shit, okay, like it's actually happening. And I was just like, Okay, confident, we're good, We're gonna find a man. And so I just walked down and all my friends were there already, so it was super fun to see them. But I was definitely nervous for sure, Like I'm like what is happening? 00:16:23 Speaker 2: Yeah, like for everyone on this podcast, like you're in like this holding little like holding down like a hut. It's like a hot it's like a treehouse, and you're just kind of waiting. You're waiting, you're waiting, and then you walk down these steep steps and you're just. 00:16:40 Speaker 1: Like, yeah, very steep, long steps. 00:16:43 Speaker 3: Yeah, there's so many of them too. I feel like I was walking for like five minutes. 00:16:46 Speaker 1: I know, you're like, you're going, You're going, You're going, and then all of a sudden, Well, for us it was David Space. For you was so crazy and we didn't know. I remember being like, oh my god, David's space. But for you guys, you're you know, you're like looking, You're like, where is Jess See? Like why am I still going down these stairs? 00:17:03 Speaker 2: But you know, once once you go, once you start that walk, you're walking. You're you're walking into reality TV. 00:17:09 Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you're in it. It's like you know when like in football they like run out of the tunnel, like onto the field, Like that's the Bachelor equivalent. 00:17:19 Speaker 3: That's our run out. 00:17:21 Speaker 1: So you are a bartender. Wells is a good friend of ours and a good friend of the Beaches of Paradise. How were Wells's drinks in comparison to your drinks? 00:17:34 Speaker 3: Oh, in comparison. No, No, Wells was a great bartender. He was always having conversations, which is great. That's how you get good tips, you know, making making friends with everyone. But no, he did good. Honestly, I drink so much wine, so I wasn't easy. 00:17:51 Speaker 1: Really, that's red or white. 00:17:54 Speaker 3: I feel like, honestly, all of us girls were always shrinking wine, like that was our choice. 00:17:59 Speaker 1: Really in summer. 00:18:00 Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. 00:18:01 Speaker 1: Think anyone on our seasoned drink wine really. 00:18:04 Speaker 2: Yeah, Noah did no drink red wine, like deep dark red wine. 00:18:11 Speaker 3: I feel like white is like good when it's like warmer out, because red wine I feel like makes me like hot in the face. 00:18:17 Speaker 1: But I'd probably like yeah, and then you got like a little like red wine teeth. 00:18:21 Speaker 3: Yeah. No, not the vibe, so we stuck with Vie. 00:18:25 Speaker 1: Not the vibe. When you went down to Paradise, did you have any like thing that you were like, I want to leave here engaged or were you just like I'm just open, just seeing how this goes. 00:18:37 Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like going into Paradise, I was just like, you know, whatever happens happens. I'm a big believer and like, literally everything happens for a reason. So I know that I was given this opportunity for a reason and that the people that are going are going to be there for a reason. So I was just like, you know, if it works out, it works out. If it doesn't, it doesn't. I was just very open, and I knew that going into this, I just wanted to be utterly myself and show who I am, and if someone likes that and falls in love with that, that's great. But yeah, that was just my thing. I was like, I'm just gonna go down there and be myself, see what happens. But I was definitely open to the stage. Now. I was like, I could see a ring on this Nuer. 00:19:15 Speaker 2: I don't know, I can't tell. I can't tell what happens with you. 00:19:18 Speaker 1: No, I can't. 00:19:20 Speaker 2: Now. 00:19:20 Speaker 1: It's actually driving me crazy, like I've been trying to figure out this whole podcast, Like like I could see you right now with someone, but I can also see you saying I don't know. You're like you're really hard to read right down if you're with someone or not. And I genuinely have no clue what your story is down there? 00:19:36 Speaker 2: Yeah, can you tease a little bit or tell us a little bit about the truth box that we saw in the trailer? 00:19:51 Speaker 3: Yes, the truth box so well literally pulls us all around the bar, like we have this new thing. It's called the truth box. You put whatever you want in there and we'll read it aloud, and I'm like, oh, great, this is gonna be Wow. 00:20:04 Speaker 2: Such a good idea, server, such a good idea. 00:20:09 Speaker 3: Were just like stir in the pot here, like literally, so I knew that it was gonna bring some bring some fat to the beach. There was definitely some things in there that were kind of you know, not I would say difficult to hear. It was just like truth, you know, like what people saw and what like, because in reality it's kind of like okay, I can say this without saying it to their face, you know. So people had more confidence to put whatever they wanted in there. Uh. 00:20:41 Speaker 1: The trolls on the internet literally it's like a tread thread on the people. 00:20:46 Speaker 2: Were there any like were there any like mean comments or is it all just kind of just. 00:20:54 Speaker 3: The few mean ones? But yeah, they there was a few mean ones in there about some people. 00:21:02 Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, you're you're so getting off of the topic of Paradise real quick. 00:21:10 Speaker 1: Wait, I want to ask for to tease one more thing from the trailer. 00:21:12 Speaker 2: All right, then we got one more question. We'll play a game. 00:21:15 Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. So another thing that we saw in the Paradise promo was there's a Paradise wedding. It looked like happening. Is there anything you can hint at that We've been saying if there's anyone that's going to be getting married down on that beach out of the original cast, it's Blake Boyins. 00:21:33 Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. Someone does get married on the beach though, like fully says bows fully does everything like a legal marriage, a legal marriage on the beach. Yep, it happens. It was fun. 00:21:44 Speaker 1: Were you there for it? Were you present? So it could have been yell, could have been me. 00:21:49 Speaker 3: You never know that. 00:21:53 Speaker 2: Okay, getting off the topic of Paradise real quick. I just want to know, do you have you're you're some of that has a bunch of jobs, like right now you're bartending, and do have like a career that you really want? 00:22:08 Speaker 3: See that's the problem, Joe. I feel like I changed my mind every day on what I want to do. 00:22:15 Speaker 2: I'm like that too. 00:22:16 Speaker 3: Yeah. My degree is in child development and psychology. So my original plan was to go back to school and get my masters in school counseling. And then the show happened and life's just been crazy. So I obviously haven't gone back to school, but that was like my original plan. But now I'm like, I don't know, I don't know. I know that I want to work in a nonprofit. I would love to work with kids of some sort specialtys. Is something that I feel my heart really pulled towards. So I don't know, just figuring it out, going with the flow. 00:22:50 Speaker 2: Nice you sure, and you got paradise going right now. You're you're busy. Let's do this rapid fire you want to you want to fire away? 00:22:58 Speaker 1: Sure, the last one you did, We're gonna switch it up this time. I'll take it over. Okay, So and ask you a bunch of questions, just rapid fire. First thing that comes to your mind?
