Someone gets paid and we're talking about it ft breaking news. Roman Anthony finalizing a contract with the Boston Red Sox. It's an extension. He's under team control for a while, but now he's going to get one hundred and thirty dollars. Breaking news from Jeff Passon eight years, one thirty mil on a contract extension and passed and said the deal is pending a physical, includes a club option. It's going to keep Roman Anthony under team control through wait for it, twenty thirty four. His deal with the Red Sox will start in twenty twenty six, so starting next year. It includes significant escalators. It could take the maximum value of the deal to two hundred and thirty million dollars depending on where he finishes an ale Rookiet the Year voting, It would buy out either three or four years of free agency. That's based on that whole rule that goes down now with service time. If you finish high up in some of the awards like Rookie of the Year. AJ, your thoughts, I love it.

He'll figure it out. They'll make some changes to him if he doesn't. This deal is not breaking the Boston Red Sox. Six years for sixty million. I'm sorry, it's not Roman Anthony. This year's not breaking the Boston Red Sox. But I think they've seen enough out of Roman Anthony where they're like, this dude's going to be a star, let's sign him up.

I mean, it was tank city for a while there, and you do want to see some of the guys that you end up with signed to long term contracts, so kip before we lost it for a sec. That's the reason I bring up a team in the division and a fan base that is, at least this season jealous of what Red Sox fans have, which is a playoff chance, and some of their young core signed up long term.

I think I think Alex Corre has done a nice job. I think their coaches haven't done a nice job. And I think, say what you want about Breslo, but the Bragman signing has worked out tremendously. Trevor Story has turned it around. I mean, moving Raphael to second base, the Toro romy Gonzalez first base thing. Although we criticize it, has been nice. They found the byas behind the plate. Their outfield is good with Duran a Bray you. I like where they're at and I think they're going to make the playoffs, and I think they could make a deep run if they get you know, Gilito keeps going like this, Garret Crochet keeps going like this, I think that they can make a deep run. But if I don't know why big markets haven't done it too, because they've always I guess just been like we could cover it, we'll pay it, but it's smart business. I don't think any of these big market teams or any of these teams really have their tail between their legs on it not working out too many times to where it's like, Okay, we got to stop doing it. It's shown to work at numerous occasions, so I actually am a little bit surprised why more teams have not done it already.

But I do think it stands out that both of the trade deadline acquisitions kip the Big Ones bat wise or the Mariners. Homer yesterday, Gina's back, and I love Josh Naylor. They really needed to upgrade the corner infield positions. It had been neglected one or the other or both for a long period of time. And they did a little two for one over several days with the same team. And that's a team that could hit this year and couldn't pitch. I'm talking about the Diamondbacks. So these are two impact bats. I mean, Gino hadn't homeward in a minute, but I think he gets his footing down now. And also he's gotten hit by pitches a bunch of times. This is going to be a much more dangerous lineup with those two.

Uh you know he or uh you know he was what he went like seven games without a home run. He was fired them off everywhere right before the All Star break. I think if I remember too, and then trade deadline comes and I think now that he's got his first one with the new team, but you can start to see him settle in a little bit. It's always good to get that first one out of the way when you're known for hitting home runs and no, that that that lineup length and tremendously with a lot more power now adding those two.

It's not going to necessarily feel that way to the casual fan, but AJ Seattle fans last year loved Victor Roeblos when they picked him up for the last couple of months of the season. He gets hurt really early on. I think it was the first week of the year. But he's been way ahead of schedule, so they announced yesterday rehab assignment for him next week forty to fifty played appearances and then he should be called up to the show. That's a really nice piece that can help you and do a little bit of everything as an outfielder for this team. Bryce Miller also on his way back. He's been pumping high nineties and I think he's got maybe one more rehab start, So they're going to start to get even deeper in the rotation and in the outfield lineup, whatever you want to call it. We obviously love their pitching. Their offense is better can they win the division? I think they got a shot. I think the Astros are starting to get healthy. But I still think the Mariners are legit threat to win this division, and if they get in, nobody wants to face that pitching. Here's the real question. I know we're talking Mariners right now, but can the Mariners, who are head of the Yankees right now, and the Rangers, who are only half game behind the Yankees knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs in the Al West. Both these teams passed the New York Yankees. I think that's the bigger story. We all expect the Mariners to get in and we all think they can do damage. But can the other team? The Rangers passed the Yankees? And wow, what a surprised that would be because two months ago, two months ago, we're like, Oh, the Yankees are winning the East easily, They're gonna be great in the playoffs, and now whammy, they're almost out of the playoffs.

I mean, let's give a shout out to Valdi. Twos here is like one to five for the year, which is unbelievable. But I mean, the Yankees bullpen the guys that they traded for bednar Bird and some of these other guys haven't done what they thought they'd do Devall, and then you're throwing Devin Williams with his up and down this year. Luke Weaver's been up and down this year. I don't know, man, It's an interesting spot because Judge came back. You put Stanton in a weird spot. I don't know. And if the stats aren't there, if the lockdown's not there, then you know what. You got to go to that guy if he's gonna repeatedly give up runs, put him in a different situation to succeed, Let him get his feedback under him, let him find some pitches. But we were talking about him earlier. I think a guy like that, who doesn't have the most overpowering fastball or stuff like that, needs to get ahead. You cannot get behind guys in the order and at bat because once you're behind, they can start sitting on one of your two pitches, basically like that. So in terms of benching guys, yes, it is a great threat. I think I remember seeing I forget who wrote about it. But the threat of being benched, of raising the bar of the standard that you set there for your organization, for your team works. It does work. I'm not gonna sit here and say that was the right time to do it or it was the wrong time to do it. But it's like you need to make an example. Sometimes you need to make example out of your higher profile guys if they're the ones you're screwing up, because that'll be more than just benched the last guy on the roster. So I think the Yankees have always had this high culture, and Booney's trying and as best he can, but it doesn't sound like it's that high. It doesn't. Whenever a rookie comes up, you have to, I think, kind of watch him and kind of pick some times to give him a few days to catch up. He's not happy about it, but I think there's reason to do that. The intensity of the major league season compared to what he's used to and the way he plays the game so hard. Plus I mean, his legs aren't as long as everybody else is, so he's got more ground to cover, quicker, more steps to take. I think he plays so damn hard and his attitude is so great that we just immediately assume he's fine, and sometimes with a closer look, maybe a few days gives him his legs back. So, Kip, Caleb Durbin is listed five foot seven in the big leagues, and you've a few of these quotes from over the days. He's tough and he'll tell it like it is, but he'll also mix in a joke, and not everyone on the internet understands that, and I think it's great.
