Episode 83 - The Golden Age of Technology and mankind's expansion into the galaxy.

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we dive into the Golden age of technology. We open with the Age of Terra and some new lore about the Emperor and his battles with the Cognitae. From there we dive into the mankind conquering and terraforming Sol in preparation of launching into the galaxy. We then talk (briefly) about the men of gold, men of stone, and the expansion into the galaxy. After that we take a turn and focus on the technology of the Age of Technology and how incredibly advanced it is.  After that we lean into the Men of Iron and their critical role in the growth of humanity. Then we cover the genetic engineering, both of the regular populace, as well as the creation of the navigators. We then close our coverage with the invention of the warp drive.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast with me, John Barside and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_01]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: On today's cast, we're going to be diving pretty deep into the first part of our golden age of technology, the rise of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's expansion into the universe, all the technology that came along with it, and kind of the stuff that's set up for a pretty colossal failure, a little bit later.
[SPEAKER_00]: The dark age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Real quickly, as always, the Forty-K-Lorecast, the weekly podcast, releasing every Monday at seven p.m.
[SPEAKER_00]: Eastern time with the focus in the Warhammer Forty-K universe.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you click on the show notes, you'll see links to our website, the FortyHateLorecast.com or Patreon or Discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: For those of you who haven't so far, please follow and comment the cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: We also have a discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's completely free for anyone who wants to join.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have everything in there from literature, gameplay, hobby, memes, General Forty Kay.
[SPEAKER_00]: The whole idea of our discord is to make it a place for anyone that community can come to and interact around Forty Kay lore, along with us.
[SPEAKER_00]: As always, big thank you, Kevin, Nick, Macy, Brian, Ethan, Steve, Ryan, Trevor, and David for moderating the discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: I really would have burned it down if they weren't here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to point out that we're actually recording not in person for the first time ever.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as usual, because I'm pretty sure John's in witness protection, it's not actually his name.
[SPEAKER_01]: He still doesn't have any of you up, even though I did.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I moved my camera and it turned off and then I, and then I gave up.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of how they, that happened because technologies now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're definitely, we are definitely in the dark age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are in the Golden Age of Technology, you and I are personally... I mean, I think I'm in the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm surrounded by technology that I might as well light incense and pray to at this stage.
[SPEAKER_00]: whatever my computer doesn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: How are you?
[SPEAKER_01]: How do you make things work here?
[SPEAKER_00]: Brett's computer is surrounded by candles and incense burning.
[SPEAKER_00]: Weirdly enough, it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, onto the cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as we begin this cast, I do want to point something out that some of this stuff that we're going to talk about got retconned a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, whoa, whoa.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_01]: Rhett is a little bit, are you?
[SPEAKER_01]: Astronomically, Rhett cons, and stuff is, they've dropped nuclear bombs on the before, thirty-k lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, howly, Rhett nuclear bombs at some of the stuff, since they're decayed.
[SPEAKER_01]: But before a thirty-k has been just newed several times.
[SPEAKER_01]: They still referred to some of the stuff before, but man, it's been Rhett, god.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're, I like that you tried to slide that in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's a little bit, Rhett, god.
[SPEAKER_01]: What?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's been blown out multiple times.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's talk it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for over twenty plus years, the age of technology, the dark gay technology and a little bit more of them, were basically a paragraph in a forty-day codex.
[SPEAKER_00]: They never wrote about the metal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Citadel Journal, so many stories in that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where they... Jesus.
[SPEAKER_01]: They used to write stuff in there and they did put stuff about the amount of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Larry.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really looking at Citadel Journal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did I see about it's not doing doing this remote?
[SPEAKER_00]: I can actually look up like when it was published.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not doing it.
[SPEAKER_01]: This remote means that I also have access to both bicycles.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nineteen eighty five to an nineteen eighty seven.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go and get your right.
[SPEAKER_00]: They some of this stuff did exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nineteen ninety four to two thousand two.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was because it was relaunched in nineteen ninety four.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this is actually more fun doing it this way.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like having in the room, but being able to Google is crap all we talk.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's so much more room for me to wander around.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a little bit dangerous.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to this may turn into a complete catastrophe.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see how it goes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I'm gonna play Baldur's Gate three while we're doing this.
[SPEAKER_00]: The ADHD just takes over.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll go back to playing when I playing Master of Orion two.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was playing over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the point is, is that a lot of this stuff wasn't really that heavily canon.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's more in the last fifteen years that we've seen it appear more and more because the GW writers had an inserting elements of it into Black Library books primarily.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we've seen a lot more detail, but it is newer.
[SPEAKER_00]: And some of the newer stuff, the strip can flex with some of the older stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm going to old man it with my rose color glasses.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like some of the old, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: They took more risks sometimes because of the fact that they had no other plan to expand on it though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, the problem is it was in danger if we came in like the plot of the show lost where you get the final out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So on there like, oh crap, we have to close this down.
[SPEAKER_00]: We were learning writing episodes for shits and giggles.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we had no, we actually had no plan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's dead.
[SPEAKER_00]: The head move on.
[SPEAKER_00]: The head.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, but I do this little like caveat here because I want to make sure I give a disclaimer that what we're what we're going to discuss here is us taking like a sentence from a novel here, a paragraph, macodex or less and kind of pulling them together.
[SPEAKER_00]: So some of this is going to be interpreted.
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of it's canon, but it's also canon from multiple writers.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about, you know, it's the kind of seven or eight different writers writing different books.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be wild bread and John theories, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, those are the fun ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's dig into this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start off with the beginning of time for forty-gay, which is the age of terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the first major age of mankind, and it's known as the age of terror, which is effective in the birth of humanity till about the year fifteen thousand.
[SPEAKER_00]: So mild amount of time there, close to
[SPEAKER_00]: depending if you want to call civilization or birth of humanity, a million years to, you know, thirty thousand.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's a big deal though, because they, they never really get into it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But something happened at about fifteen thousand that we were able to go from cruising around the solar system to immediately being ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's something that happened was GW had to pick a date.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I'm just saying what's the same by the plan of wedding?
[SPEAKER_01]: They did make it like a different thing, you know, you know, because I think they put it there because there's always that when the Catan with the Mars and everything else, you know, when did we basically Mass Effect the knowledge, you know, when do we get our Mars?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think they made it up as they went along.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, kind of, but I mean, I do think they did a good job of just they made it so something jump started us.
[SPEAKER_01]: We found someone else's
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so at this time, I do laugh in the GW writing is basically a bunch of small stuff happened, small stuff like the birth of Nervole Zinch and Corn, which we covered in the cast is one of the earlier red cons, so at one point they were all born in the middle ages.
[SPEAKER_00]: and then later on.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know there was a specifically button done during the plague.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the black plague on one planet was enough to birth the chaos god, but all the other planets that have like necron millions of millions of planets are like, but we were really sick here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're seriously important.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're really sick for one quarter of the planet for like a couple of years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the more important ones that actually come out of this is a new breed of humanity evolves, called perpetuals.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't love the term that they call it like, so they refer to this as like, I don't, as humanity evolved into perpetuals.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't evolve.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but he was just the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we don't know in Malkador, there's that random dude from the novels.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the example I would explain perpetuals to people, I view them more like the mutants of X-Men, where it's like an ultra rare group of people with exceptionally high powers, but they're very rare.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, better one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Highlander.
[SPEAKER_00]: It can only be won.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it wanted Academy Award for the best movie ever ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: The movie is so good.
[SPEAKER_00]: That movie is so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was I was actually thinking about watch of the TV show again.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's I was referring to tell a day and nights I wasn't referring to a highlander.
[SPEAKER_00]: That movie is not that good.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see the Highlander.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what shit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Such a great one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, these perpetuals who are born begin to shape humanity's future over the kind of like tens of thousands of years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Most importantly, though, in this era of the age of terror is the growth of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as Brad was alluding to earlier, humanity discovers a ton of stuff in this period of time.
[SPEAKER_00]: How to terraform and colonize planets and moons?
[SPEAKER_00]: This is really critical because they're actually able to fix Terra all the way up and to basically a paradise, which they resoundingly ruin multiple times over in the coming millennials.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a big deal because we never rediscovered that because this setting for forty k is the imperium is
[SPEAKER_01]: the inquisition of the dark times that we've lost so much technology and we're religious zealots behind that if you actually look for technology we will strike you down because we still don't have the technology that before the dark it's like weapon we're we're way farther in weaponry and stuff we are way behind in
[SPEAKER_01]: How did we tear from, how did we make basically beautiful worlds that all worked?
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about this age of this age of terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: So humanity figures out basically how to fix earth, how to colonize moons.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now they just burst.
[SPEAKER_00]: They basically burst out of the shackles of earth and they expand into the solar system.
[SPEAKER_00]: But initially, it's just the one that they're in, not outside it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So just, you know, what we go up, we give note is soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this allows humanity, the key thing about this is it allows humanity to expand in population and in manufacturing because it's wild.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because we do it now because that is one thing the imperium does well is make shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the humanity started, we just put basically plants, manufacturing plants on any sphere that was orbiting anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can we fit this, this, this, you know, mining rig on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's up, that that's a mining rig now.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so humanity does this Mars moons of Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're also able to build habitable facilities that could let it live there, like on Venus and Mercury, which I'm going to be candid.
[SPEAKER_00]: way too hot to sustain any sort of life or equipment.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can fix it back then.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have powers, bro.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm pretty, you know what, actually, we're live.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is the average surface temperature of Mercury?
[SPEAKER_01]: Thinking, well, it depends whether it's night, night or day.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like five hundred.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit down or negative two hundred and ninety.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what like yeah, but you know they put up a room.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying bring it bring a jacket for the night.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it ends up happening, though, obviously, once they achieve this, more resources needs to more discovery.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because science, at its core, is fueled by innovation, inquisition, and resources.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the need.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've done it ourselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've done, when do you get new scientific discoveries?
[SPEAKER_01]: When you need some way to get from here to there?
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what happened was that, and now they could get from here to there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But one interesting thing about the lore that you want to call out in some very new books, and when I say new books, I mean, last couple of years, they've now introduced that during this age of terror is where the emperor's battle with chaos began.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like this just because of the fact that the lower before was the upper hung out for thirty forty thousand.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was doing it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was just on vacation.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I like that he's doing something.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's also made no class.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was just hanging out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's him trying to figure out what it is too.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's battling chaos in the book, new books, but he's also trying to figure out what the hell it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is it because he can sense it, but he doesn't have the ability to see into the warp and see the chaos gods.
[SPEAKER_00]: So just then called the cognite, I believe the term is how you pronounce that.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're very new to the lore.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are, and I don't want to spend a lot of time on them candidly, not because I have an issue with them, but because these are the cognite, I don't think, I think it's less than five years old.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you haven't been reading some of the most latest Black Library books, which of course are all sold out and out of print, I don't really want to blow it for all of you, but effectively, the cognitive high level, the Emperor of mankind was created or born, however you want to do it as a reaction to chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: his creation was immediately recognized as the greatest threat to chaos in the galaxy, you know, than each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the first chaos cults kind of appear all around Earth.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this ends up being, it does have quite a lot of assassins Creed element to me if I'm being honest with the emperor and his guys are fighting a secret war about the Cogate and their people.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like basically tearing down each other's icons and slowing each other down.
[SPEAKER_00]: most of the assassins create games are good so you know good enough you know some of them are some of them are bad some of them are quite bad so anyway this it just was a nice little piece of what the emperor was doing all the time so around the year fifteen thousand although it actually a thing at one point was the year eighteen thousand and gw never really decided to be very clear about this I'm a cool with that though because this is we lost this
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is all, this is all well-gawned.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, mankind takes us first like real step into the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this right here is going to be what I refer to as our first step into Repconville.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, population you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so around, this is just annoying to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: In the third edition of the game, which dates into the late nineties, the Lord got really weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: It took about the men of gold, the men of stone.
[SPEAKER_00]: The men of gold were apparently a race of golden men.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they're described that.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they're called men of gold, who worked with the Emperor to oversee humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And because at this time, this is before we had the cognate.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this stays the Emperor is just sitting back and watching humanity and not leading it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he also wanted to influence humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we also does that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he sends them down the path of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he uses these men of gold who take up leadership roles among humans.
[SPEAKER_00]: Count that theoryals of towel because they took up leadership roles.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but there's never a good description of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not, but people are thinking, Oh, you mean custodes?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, these are not custodes in any way, shape or form.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are just referred to as the men of gold.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're weirder, but the other one is the men of the men of stone, which is one hundred percent just AI robots.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so the next come the men of stone and the men of stone were, yeah, the AI robots who became the pilots of the crafts that humanity would ride out into the cosmos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's written, this is what was written, and it's a third edition codex.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's written, they were able to do this because they were soulless, so they could use them to go through the warp unharmed.
[SPEAKER_00]: which doesn't make any sense because it's a pilot soulless that's adorable but the crew aren't so you're like all the people in stasis.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, by the way, originally though in GW, they wrote word travel as something that you only really had to deal with if you were trying to magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it does, it makes more sense with their image.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so I kind of going back into this for the cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: I chalk us up to like one of two ways.
[SPEAKER_00]: Rather than say GW was wrong, I'm just going to go with
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the original stories we got in third edition were imperial records from, you know, pre-dating the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's all kind of esoteric and kind of made up.
[SPEAKER_00]: One theory I saw online that I liked, which was at the Men of Stone, was actually a reference to silicone.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they were, they were like, androids like the one in the Alien series, you know, Bishop and Ash.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, same concept where they were actually, there was synthetics.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that would line up pretty well, given when Alien Aliens came out and GW writing came out.
[SPEAKER_00]: This would actually, that would check a few boxes.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I just kind of, from my, in terms of the lore.
[SPEAKER_01]: There was something that were, I hated the, the, the, the, the men of gold thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the men of gold thing I've just done with men of, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also men of, it doesn't matter because we, we bailed the shit out of it too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, the those things literally so men of stone and I went and searched for the last mention of men of stone was the rule book of third edition which came out like nineteen ninety eight or two thousand one so we are you know many of our listeners lifetimes further back then this guy so what I'd like to go with is more some of the more modern writing around it
[SPEAKER_00]: which is around the year fifteen thousand mankind reaches basically it's pinnacle and they decide to break out of the galaxy and they create their first sub-light drives and the sub-light drives are attached to massive colony ships and the ships are just a mix of cryostasis passengers and regular ones who just to have the course work the ship as it travels and these trips took what the is the Lord says these trips took generations to go
[SPEAKER_00]: So, of course, I looked at this up because, you know, I had the internet, like the rest of you, and Alpha Centauri is only four light years away.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, even though using sub-light, sub-light travel, I don't think they're using like, you know, fifty knots.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't think you want to take in generations.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're, if you're like, effective, if you are moving at half the speed of light, it's an eight-year journey.
[SPEAKER_00]: longer than I want to do, but I think, you know, that's a, I think the Vikings, they'd look well.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's not that long.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, it's not critical, but I just wanted to call it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look like the further out ones are rougher.
[SPEAKER_00]: But these Connie ships were then loaded up with what was, because it was meant to be a one way trip for a long period of time.
[SPEAKER_00]: So mankind goes out, they colonize the stars and these ships go out and they establish the colonies themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: So each colony was meant to be a fully self-sufficient.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then what?
[SPEAKER_01]: And these are cool, though.
[SPEAKER_01]: The writings about these are awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because they're these generational ships, though.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're meant to be used.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, they take apart the ship once they get everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, once you land, the entire ship gets cannibalized.
[SPEAKER_00]: and turned into the colony.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the idea in the whole concept was you get there with all the supplies you need.
[SPEAKER_00]: You build up your colony.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then once you get to a certain point, you'd link up back to the main world and then trade would begin.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the basic tenant of how colonialism was supposed to work.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you view colonialism from the perspective of the English writing about colonialism when they were doing the colonialism, as then you skip over all the genocide and the murder and the stealing that you're actually doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I suppose to take stuff with other people have it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not just what other people, I didn't see other people, that seems to be their usual system.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the world's chosen for this were actually also predetermined.
[SPEAKER_00]: So just like we can do now, they knew if a system had a stable son, they had deep space probes that were going out there and checking the plants themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they knew before they headed out what the chemical make-ups were, gravity atmosphere, raw materials,
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, not just the planets, too, also the moons, the asteroids.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say, we, the thing about this is they, right, this is kind of fleeting planets.
[SPEAKER_01]: I, I like the idea of it, which is they launch these probes that have giant machinery on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They basically start the studio.
[SPEAKER_01]: Terrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's one other way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's a weird one because it, and it is conflicting, because that comes up sometimes and other times they're arriving blind in a system.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's cool because they also send these guys with, you know, armed to bear it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're ready to rock.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so in order to achieve this, obviously, as we said in last guest, they arrive both well armed and well equipped.
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's talk a little bit about why they had to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: So soul itself is a little left of center in the Milky Way.
[SPEAKER_00]: The LDAR have long since visited every planet, never system in the galaxy, and they put webweigh gates up on basically the entire galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Google, you know, forty came map of LDAR webways.
[SPEAKER_00]: You see they're all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing about that, though, is the Eldar, even though they put the web ways over the galaxy, they didn't actually control the whole galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Eldar picked and shows where they wanted to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Eldar
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is because the elder could do things no one else could do.
[SPEAKER_00]: The elder could terraform like no one else could.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could use the warp to create whatever they wanted.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the elder from the most part selling what is now the eye of terror, which is a little bit, you know, up into the left in the galaxy for the primary.
[SPEAKER_00]: The elder, the elder's galaxy basically was above humanity and wrapped a little bit around to like the right and down like a crescent pattern.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that was about it, and they were dense there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was saying, we're in the booties.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have the amount of planets that were in there, which were in the eye of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: Area is crazy, because they were informed everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also, and they also could create a planet at will.
[SPEAKER_00]: The thing about the elders is because they mean, as we've talked about,
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a son, two sons sitting inside of Comer.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the elder had to move stuff around.
[SPEAKER_00]: They basically, at their sit with sixty five million years to do, they just made a chunk of the galaxy for themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was extra comfy.
[SPEAKER_00]: But what that meant was the humanity actually could move out.
[SPEAKER_00]: of the galaxy and not just beat Cossie bumping into Eldar.
[SPEAKER_00]: So long as they were a little bit careful, actually I'm really careful, just lucky.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they didn't know if it was an Eldar world until they got there and stopped existing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's a big deal on this because right when the rise of humanity came, Eldar were starting their slow internal descent, the corruption of the Eldar empire, they became very inner focus, the pleasure culture, just starting now.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't, it's again, if you read Elrig, you know, Elrig,
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you have the same kind of thing where they just their corrupt, and they start not caring what's happening from just anywhere that's not the core, because they just don't care because they haven't lost in a million years, you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the big thing here is for as humanity is expanding out.
[SPEAKER_00]: So long as they don't hit one of those core planets,
[SPEAKER_00]: The elder don't really care.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the stories are the elder.
[SPEAKER_00]: I read.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even care if you made a settled on a world that had a web way gate on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as long as they left the web way gate alone.
[SPEAKER_00]: which we do see quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were so, so didn't get a shit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was beneath them at this point in time.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they were, they were dicks about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they, and the thing is, is that they, they kind of were justified in that at that particular time, because all the threats that are now in modern forty k.
[SPEAKER_01]: were just not there for a very long time.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they were just complacent.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a great point because, and with me, we bring in that up is that I want to make sure it's clear that when humanity expanded in the galaxy, if the Eldar had been, there's been a few million years earlier.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Eldar were just smoked up because the Eldar, they were still expanding or doing else up they would have just smoked them absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jam them back down into terror and probably like, you know, the neutered half of them just to make sure they couldn't do it again.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that, that's the power of the elder head.
[SPEAKER_00]: But this stage, the elder were not there.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're focused on themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: That being said, if humanity did land on an elder world, they would get smoked.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they showed up on a crack and what later, not a crack or a political on a crone world, they would have gotten smoked instantly.
[SPEAKER_00]: that, but the elder weren't the only things in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what humanity was building these colonies ships to handle, were works on rare occasion and primarily others, you know?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's so many zenos in the galaxy in Forty-K.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many tight small races.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, there's thousands of how we did.
[SPEAKER_00]: We did two casts on just the ones that are made the news in Forty-K.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, but there's tons of incursions.
[SPEAKER_01]: How the Dark Angels have put down a hundred and something out of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fun note on this though, as humanity was expanding out with with these ships, they brought the STCs with them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would actually adapt dependent on enemies.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no date on this, but one of the first encounters with the orcs is actually the origin of the predator tank.
[SPEAKER_00]: The predator tank actually was originally just because all humanity had originally was just the rhino.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they just said ATVs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the rhino couldn't handle tank so they just slapped a bunch of guns on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the birth of the predator tank.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're like, hey, these crazy dudes keep attacking us.
[SPEAKER_00]: Put a gun on this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, put one gun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Put three guns on there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's burn them.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I digress.
[SPEAKER_00]: So humanity comes prepared.
[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, that's good segue to the STC's.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as we discussed in the night's cast, we took this gust before every single ship that left soul into the galaxy was loaded with STC's.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these STC's contained all human technical knowledge.
[SPEAKER_00]: And as I said, this is because each colony was being, the goal for each colony was to not only colonize a planet, but to colonize the system and turn that system into a mini version of salt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do this again though, because we have to do it each time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Standard template construct.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a good point.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what it stands for.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not only a blueprint, it actually is a machine that builds.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what makes it important around this area is that in modern Forty K, it even into like right up during the Great Crusader, worlds were part of a cog in a wheel.
[SPEAKER_00]: A world would do one type of manufacturing, it would be supported by the other worlds who did the manufacturing.
[SPEAKER_00]: in the early stage of the age of technology, that trade didn't exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you had to go to a system and completely self-sufficient.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what the trade true colonialism, again, well, actually, they had just as much murder and genocide in the beginning.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is how those things are all actually function.
[SPEAKER_00]: So much murder.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's how they all actually function.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so upon arriving at a planet, the STCs would be put to work.
[SPEAKER_00]: As the colonists start waking up from stasis, the STCs and AI robots, which we'll get to in a minute, would turn on.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the ship itself, a lot of its cargo, which get cannibalized, and they build a colony, housing, fortification, the first parts of the manufacturing centers would be created.
[SPEAKER_00]: If the world did a terraforming that terraforming machine would be created and turned on,
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a big deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's going to be a big deal a little bit here.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's all for the people on those ships in which are tens of thousands of people on these ships are massive.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But also that when they get out of the planet, a lot of shit is just good to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're ready to rock.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're waking up at a stasis and it is everything's kind of already built for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the next thing the STC's actually did was start evaluating the needs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they, again, when they're not just blueprints, it contains all of the technical knowledge.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the STC was start diagnosing what the calling needed survived.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a danger threat?
[SPEAKER_00]: What's the level, you know, local fauna, local flora?
[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, how do I turn this world into a place that can support massive amounts of life?
[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously jacked this up super bad on Fenris, but that oopsies.
[SPEAKER_00]: So effectively within about a solar decade, the colonies are completely up and running and should have teamed their local local area.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So when we say within a solar decade, that should have happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the solar decade stopped existing.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the one of the big things here is our original planets weren't our current planets of nightmare worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, these were all, well, I mean, some of them, it's hard to gauge really, but yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but like in a lot of the writing, they have, it's not like every planet was perfect, but every planet was a planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were no high worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there were no high worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were four worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every day there was a variation.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Seventeen billion people make hub caps here.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they made some hub gas, but they also made the cars and the food.
[SPEAKER_00]: But so when it's happening over time, those eventually these massive, so they colonize the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: If there's rich asteroids or moons nearby, those are mining centers, other planets hit colonized, terraformed, until the entire system is linked up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Eventually, this grows that gets big enough, that trade lanes start to open up back to Seoul, and they get established.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's eventually turned to the galaxy into a massive empire of interlink colonies, which later gets called the Federation, but we're nowhere near that yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we do that, let's spend on some of the technology that's actually used.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a big deal because there's a reason that ad makes so obsessed with getting the SSTCs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there's totally correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, yes, because again, at this point in time, they have so much better technology for everything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're so much better right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, right now when I say it's the forty-first millennium at blowing stuff up, but they were better at everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: The weaponry, but no, I just hear that the weaponry was way better at this area, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, coming up, they made pistols that shot nuclear bombs.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yes, it, but I really think versus heavy bolter pistol, come on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, about the, they're, they're bio weaponry is more what I'm getting into.
[SPEAKER_01]: Space Marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, that's better.
[SPEAKER_00]: That, that, that's better.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing anything to fix people at the time, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fair point.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, but we've ever, all their technology was so good for manufacturing, for every, oh, yes, the STC's at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: And to Brad's point, the STC's weren't credible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, like what we're going to, we're going to talk about the technology now, and maybe you're going to understand why the ad Mac are happy to destroy an entire system to get one STC.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because this era of technology was built for, just production and growth.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, mostly what we hear about from an STC and from a story standpoint, is usually weaponry.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, I mean, there's actually some very funny stories even in the AdNet Codex.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, they find three STCs.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of them makes toast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Another one makes like, makes waffles, and the third one can melt a sun.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then like one or third one's pretty cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, but the first two actually mean people, like it didn't make toast from bread.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it actually just out of the out of the air created warming yummy toast, which by the way, I think you could conquer a high world with that today.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that, hey, I can make you all the warm yummy toast you've ever had.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I would want to eat that over corp starch.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it was a big deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this, too, the original empire of mankind was a pretty functioning empire.
[SPEAKER_01]: And remember, the empire in the empire in the third decade, the year, thirty thousand, when he started the crusade, actually was reconquering the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: We had everything is fine and Danny for a hot minute.
[SPEAKER_00]: will be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's talk about some of the technology they had to love its deposits.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they could easily crack open planets, moons, and asteroids to mine resources.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they could actually crack open a planet that they were living on.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it wouldn't break the planet apart.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how impressive this technology was.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could convert like desolate wastelands into garden planets like they did on Mars and actually ironically ball, but that didn't last.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also could now, the same, but they also could convert matter into other matters.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is just about to say they had, that's one of the big things is the matter conversion, but also they had much, much better energy sources.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, the energy sources effectively were infinite.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you needed like copper on a world without it, they could just break something down atomically and reconstruct it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will admit what I just said there isn't technically canon, but I have to infer that from being a massive student of sci-fi, and the fact that everywhere mankind went, they made adamantium, serimite, and plastic.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just can't believe that they happened to settle in every world that had those raw materials.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they were making you out of a bottle of whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every single column is nice planet for early just had all of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they for sure had it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, nanotechnology.
[SPEAKER_00]: We know they did nanotechnology.
[SPEAKER_01]: And no technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all they needed.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the other pieces though, of this area, which I do want to talk about as we talked about it with weaponry though, was also psychotic.
[SPEAKER_00]: They had Archaeotech pistols, which still existed a little bit in the Horace Heresy, which is a gauze pistol that would shoot something out of it, including many nuclear bombs.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a pistol that would shoot us as a tiny nuclear bomb out of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Graviton weapons, which were actually, would shoot actually when you create a gravity wall at their target.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if something was in armor, it would actually crush the organs and bones inside of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or you just pull apart a wall or a fortification.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is still used in modern Forty K, but it used to be used a lot more, especially like in second.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they talk about it in Forty K. They say all the Graviton weapons come from the the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been there discovered weapons.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do not make these anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite one though is vortex weapons.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: It creates a mini black hole.
[SPEAKER_00]: You could be able to grenade some mines and bolts.
[SPEAKER_00]: It shoots at you.
[SPEAKER_00]: It creates a black hole and collapses everything inside of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't go away for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bad weapon.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying the vortex mind missions coming back.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could bring it back.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we have a new mission deck coming out at some point in the future.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very confident that the vortex mind's not in there, but in on the off chance that a writer at GW listens to our show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just telling you, you will have one very happy player who plays in at minimum at at least two events a year.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would totally enjoy playing the vortex mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the most important inventions of this era are the men of iron, some really impressive inventions on genetic engineering, both of which will get to in a minute.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the biggest one probably is the golden throne, which comes from the era, the age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the emperor was quite active during the age of technology, just not helping mankind.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, directly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if Noah's, yeah, anyway, shape it all up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember who's a bad dad?
[SPEAKER_01]: That guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, really terrible father.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what he was doing is he was traveling around the galaxy collecting things.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, chatting with the chaos gods.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, all right, one time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know, but he was legitimately cruising the galaxy doing a collecting infinity gems for all practical purposes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's getting relics in shit.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he, he just, and this travels, as I said, this is, this is a retcon, by the way, none of this, these stories were talking with him existed more than I think, ten years ago.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is all very new lore, but I like it because he just sober is like, it's not just him watching TV for forty thousand years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: He gets to a seven thousand time of watching the friends box set and goes fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll go help out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: It would be super great if the smartest human ever would show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Do something about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why bother?
[SPEAKER_00]: So he discovers a few things.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first one is actually the web way.
[SPEAKER_00]: He discovers this is it's during this is error that he encounters a web way for the first time and realizes how it works.
[SPEAKER_00]: But another key one is actually on earth itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: He discovers this giant throne made of a material called dark glass, which is just a lazy naming mechanic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's lame though, because it's
[SPEAKER_01]: It's they specifically say that it's not the same thing that pylons are made of and then they completely run down the list of what it does and it's one hundred percent what pylons do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but no, it's it's not a pylon material.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's just a material that's kind.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a black like obsidian.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're looking like glass that interacts with the work directly.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you're referring to.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why is this confusing?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: In what way is this confusing?
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Emperor, what I do like about this to is the Emperor, finds this thing, has no idea what this throne is for because he didn't make it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was obviously the old ones that made it, but he just knew it was important.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he grabs it and shoves it in his massive underground library, which by the way exists right now and no one on terror is aware that under the Himalayan mountains is this like, like, five hundred square mile lab.
[SPEAKER_01]: He has this insane doctor evil stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but just it has a giant sign outside.
[SPEAKER_00]: It says totally not a fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they have one goes, yep, not a fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, the sign says it and just move on with their day.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, he's just an odd at this era, but it is better than the old writing where he just didn't exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was hanging out.
[SPEAKER_01]: The shaman's created him and then he took us.
[SPEAKER_01]: He has to for a long time.
[SPEAKER_00]: What if I just sense that ten thousand or twenty thousand years hanging out?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I liked the fact that he was trying to do stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's discovering things, and then effectively he has forever to research and figure out what he's going to do about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which I like, I like that retcon of the war, because it means that he's, hey, I'm eternal.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I get a figure out a plan to fix it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like him, like the line I made is he's like Indiana Jones, but also the most powerful being in the galaxy, because he is out there trying or she would do a Brad and John reference up.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like the Hardy boys, where he's trying to track down.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to cover this mystery, or is that door of the explorer does?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, someone who's younger explained to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he just made a hearty voice reference.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love everything about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and not, not the pro wrestler, hearty voice.
[SPEAKER_00]: The original hearty voice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is that?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: The one of the benefits here is we can actually look hearty boys novels.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go with they were written in the fifties.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was say the first one I saw was hearty voice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, one, the tower in nineteen fifty nine.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be fair and all and then when I was wrong so I said hold on these to be fair.
[SPEAKER_00]: If the first one was fifty nine that means it was the sixties, but okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fifty-nine.
[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't racist.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love party boys.
[SPEAKER_00]: You stepped on from the hearty boy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, no, no, what I'm saying is if somebody was written pretty heavily in the early late for these early sixties and it's not racist like, hey, Disney take a take a hit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do, I guess I dumb-boy was earlier than that.
[SPEAKER_00]: What dumb-boy was in the thirties, wasn't it?
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't only refer to this as going, you step away from my cartoons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm gonna row, I do not care for Disney.
[SPEAKER_01]: Scheduling Disney trip right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've bought everything I love, so they still wins.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, oh, Johnny, you think Mickey Mouse is stupid?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mickey Mouse is stupid.
[SPEAKER_00]: What if we own Star Wars?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fine, I'll be alright.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not as big a Marvel person Marvel's fine to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was not I was never a comic book kid.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Marvel's fine Star Wars is like the Star Wars like that's my core that gets that gets all the way in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've all about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that one that was deep.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at the mind speaking.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: So one of probably I actually one of the most it
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say one of the most infamous parts of this era is the men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's discuss what they are.
[SPEAKER_00]: The men of iron were created by mankind or the men of stone if you're going to go back that far.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were full AI machines.
[SPEAKER_00]: Are they referred to as thinking machines?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm we're not going to cover them for a little bit, but the iron can in the vote and may or may not be descended from the men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by may or may not be, I mean, they one hundred percent are because humans are over achievers what the elder should.
[SPEAKER_01]: to do in millions of years, we did it near millennia, which is completely give our society over to these guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not a problem at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also real quick note, I mentioned the vote ten of just let us get to a part of another codex comes out because the way GW writing usually goes is the second code actually solidifies the lower.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why we haven't done them yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I know I mentioned them, believe me, Brad wants to talk about squats and how they got wronged.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've still got my box.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a trike.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a space doors on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I did my pee.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it built?
[SPEAKER_00]: Is it built?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you you have an unbuilt model from thirty years ago?
[SPEAKER_00]: Thirty five.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, maybe it's a painting elder.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Brad, there's piles of shame and there's piles of shame.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's just, no, if you want to bring it over next time you come over, I'll paint it for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll build a pewter and paint it for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll even make it, I'll make it like Brad, where he'll just, I don't have a paint a guy with a migraine on a bike, but I'll find a way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just falling off the bike is what you do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just some guy, just some guy, just a bottle of ad villain one hand.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, the men of iron had two purposes for humanity at the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're labor and their military.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the STC.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're crossing over that, though, because you're seeing the labor of the military, but like the men of iron essentially ran everything because they were, they were also, they were the military and the labor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, no, labor meant you were making things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yes, and we're getting to the amount of
[SPEAKER_00]: in of men of iron on on the planet didn't move around a little bit in the amount of reliance didn't move around a little bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's talk about it more in just general.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'll say that they were just so inter in integral for logistics, which is why she went down like it went down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not like they were just there.
[SPEAKER_01]: We relied on them to get our stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and let's let's talk about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the STC for the men of iron may have been the most important STC in the entire library for the early colony ships.
[SPEAKER_00]: The men of iron would work the mines.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would tend to crops.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anything else that was deemed dangerous for the human colonists?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I love this idea because, you know, why bother building a massive era lock on like an asteroid just so some squishy human can run a glorified
[SPEAKER_00]: jackhammer on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Send a robot up there with a jackhammer for an arm.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in order to do so, the robots need to have higher thinking because you're, you know, it, it was you played video games where you can't jump.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty easy to get stuck in something.
[SPEAKER_00]: So imagine that these robots, you, you send them on on a planet and they just get stuck on a rock somewhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: So instead, they gave them higher learning.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the problem is they didn't just give them higher learning.
[SPEAKER_01]: They gave them, yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they got it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's beyond us, like mistakes were made, mistakes were made, and it was just mining, too, but it was also agriculture.
[SPEAKER_00]: So in the fifteenth millennia, humans are still humans.
[SPEAKER_00]: They get bored.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you use a mechanized labor force, agriculture can be done in a much larger scale, because the men of iron don't get sleep, don't need sleep.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't find repetitive tasks to be like mind numbing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they can sit there and do the exact same thing a million times over and that isn't credible for production.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're sitting there, mining the resources, they're sitting there, growing the food, processing the food, doing all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the unit more importantly, the universe is still dark and full of horrors.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the men of iron guns.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the men of iron did more than just labor.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were also the military force for a lot of these colonies.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were equipped to perform, you know, the menial tasks.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could also be equipped for war like the Knights.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go over this real quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what you're trying to say is you have a race of AI robots equipped with the highest technological weaponry that you have and you gave them higher learning, higher cognitive thinking and then made them do the most mundane task, twenty four seven never ever having time off.
[SPEAKER_01]: What could possibly happen?
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the example I used here is the movie Chappy, which I actually haven't seen, Chappy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I also do short circuit just for Brad.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jennifer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Johnny five also haven't seen it, but we're probably talking about the GIF for those of us who.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you're set for Mass Effect.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is that.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's there's multiple stories as a mob has multiple stories of stuff like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you basically give all that heavy lifting and the security of your empire to AI robots and then you treat them terrible.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, something happens.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what's kind of cool about this though is from where we're staying from.
[SPEAKER_00]: A lower cast standpoint is the men of iron were never talked about other than men of iron happened, men of iron revolted, men of iron bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: But over the last, like, I mean, again, last less than ten years, we've had a lot more information about the men of iron come out, few random books, games, and even the Votan codecs, where we're able to kind of understand much more about them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because so, for example, the leagues of a Votan have their roots in humanity during the age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were able to somehow avoid the Dark Age of Technology, which we'll get into later, but they still have their full AI in their system.
[SPEAKER_00]: AI in their society known as the Iron Ken.
[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, I think the Iron Ken are a good example of what the men of Iron were in old.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were a fully sentient AI robot that was part of the Votans' society, but maybe the reason they didn't revolt against the Votans is that Votans treated them like equals.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see the Votan have also an expanded line quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: If they would do a death style, you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: Where are they?
[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about the why the revolt happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that would actually pretty cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will say my vote ten army is almost all iron-kig for two reasons.
[SPEAKER_00]: One, I thought it was cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: And two, it's much faster to paint than have to paint ahead.
[SPEAKER_00]: Your options are to take a vote ten when you're building a vote ten model.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can put a human's head inside of like, it's like a helmet relief, which is a real difficult thing to paint.
[SPEAKER_00]: or you have a shield that you just paint with webbelcher.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what I decided to do?
[SPEAKER_00]: We're building sixty models.
[SPEAKER_00]: I went with a shield with webbelcher.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I have an all-AI votein on me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that's me.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's talk about the iron kin as a good homage to the men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: So each iron kin is purpose built.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're made from mining, cargo, piloting, or shock or even shock trooper.
[SPEAKER_00]: And from their creation, each iron kin is also going to specific task.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the only task they will perform, but they will do it to perfection.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is a little bit different.
[SPEAKER_01]: from the original description of the men of iron who were more of like a patch all they did they did everything I think that they actually had more of a for me the men of iron were you know we're almost like what site cyborg in a DC where they bake whatever they need weaponry tools yeah that's what I got from the men of iron because they had to adapt to whatever
[SPEAKER_01]: They're either mining.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're agriculture.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: They made it sound like they just had the ability to be whatever they needed to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I hear that, but it might be just between the Votan Codex.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm going to cover Blackstone Fortress in a second.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that GW pivot away from that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And correctly, to say, no, the Metaviron actually were specific in their purpose.
[SPEAKER_00]: The STCs would make a Metaviron to perform one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Take it, see that.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the original stories were that though.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they have a hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, the, the resource stories were that, but yeah, we had new stories.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that cut, that's a good lead into another one of the newer stories, which is UR-Zero-II-V, which was introduced to us in the Blackstone Fortress game.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a game of modular players will know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a really good model.
[SPEAKER_00]: Older players know this game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Newer players don't.
[SPEAKER_00]: In eighteen, this is a board game was released called Blackstone Fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: And GW does these every now and then these, because these one off games, they're just
[SPEAKER_00]: dungeon crawl RPGs, and they're basically always great.
[SPEAKER_00]: This game was fantastic.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fortunate though, they're always also a limited run.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you miss out, you miss out completely.
[SPEAKER_00]: So within the characters of the game was what was described as an ad-mech legio cybernetic award machine named UR-Zero-II-V.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who'd been sent by its ad-mech magos to aid the exploration of the Blackstone Fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: what you discover while playing the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Spoiler alert, but the game is now seven years old, so I don't feel like bad about spoilering it and you can't buy it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So whatever, is you are zero to five was one of the last surviving men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: Get, it's games great and if you can't, if you want, if you want to play Blackstone Fortress, I can't tell you how to get it, but you're, you're out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's my thing is they still give it a little bit of this because you're zero to five still has just nano healing basically he recreates himself every time he gets her yeah, it was very similar to it to the necridermus of the necrons, but he's also bananas smarter than all humans
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you are zero to five.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's great in the game is it shows that the men of iron really were a superior being to humanity at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're their knowledge level.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, as we discussed, we talked about call, you know, the human can only maintain so much information, whereas a cyborg can maintain all of the information.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so
[SPEAKER_01]: They also had the length of death.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were linked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they were linked together.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got incredibly well-armed and they were self-healing and also they were self-healing but not made of squishy bits.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were self-healing armored machinery.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the men of iron, the next kind of piece in the story of the men of iron, is going to be in the dark age of technology, which we're going to cover in actually in our next cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a little of a teaser into them to help you in kind of what they were and where they fit in.
[SPEAKER_00]: in your trailer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's good because the next one we got to talk about because the goal in this cast really guys to set up the is to just talk about the age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to talk about the age of strength and that's a story for the age of strength.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of the biggest pieces though of this era is genetic engineering.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the most long lasting legacies for humanity came from this.
[SPEAKER_01]: because they were trying to make people better safer, faster, no disease.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as opposed to what we do now, which is make them bigger strong flesh.
[SPEAKER_01]: More than I mean, well, let's get into that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like there was some like offshoot things that happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I also think there's a lot of, hey, man, sorry about the radiation for the last thousand years.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair, but it is during the age of Terra and then into the age technology that mankind starts to really explore the depths of what they can do to the human genome.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not covered very well actually in the forty k, but the humans are the forty first millennia are physically superior to us today.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is because on the Asia technology mankind did try to improve upon itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: Humans became bigger, stronger, more intelligent and more resistant, which makes sense because you're heading into the unknown.
[SPEAKER_01]: You had a time right there, lined up for you, that you could have went, and for exactly the older humans that were genetically modified.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: We're looking up when did Rath of Khan come out?
[SPEAKER_00]: Hold on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just want to check, Rath of Khan came out in nineteen eighty two.
[SPEAKER_01]: I already knew, I already knew the answer to that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Saw the theaters, thank you very much.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, there's no officers.
[SPEAKER_00]: June, four, nineteen, eighty two.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was nine months old.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, seven months.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm eleven.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you went and saw wrath of Khan.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what was it like meeting Jesus?
[SPEAKER_00]: He was a pretty cool dude.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, the challenges that humanity is heading out into the stars.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so you want to make yourself a lot less squishy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird because they make references.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is we're going to breath there here because it's one of the stories talk about humans of this time, just going to those new planets and just cool and just stepping out because they were resistant to check all
[SPEAKER_01]: and just started working and doing their thing on the planets, even though they weren't fully, you know, done because they were so resistant to, again, check all.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this all go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this all started in this era.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we also do see this in the forties.
[SPEAKER_00]: So catechans are noticeably larger than in the any other human.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's not because they happened to live on catechans just worked out a bunch.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is genetic engineering.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're jacked up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they are jack, but it is like, it's not like, oh, yeah, it's like this isn't any hall.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a business.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is another level is what I'm getting versus normal humans, but this actually does lead into the modern forty k with rathlings, ogren.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was with squats, you know, RIP, but
[SPEAKER_00]: and whatever the hell the people and Fenris are supposed to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: No idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: But this is all of those things are legacies of this era because they were trying to adapt humanity to be able to better tame these worlds.
[SPEAKER_00]: That being said, this also creates some of the first hybrid warriors.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a precursor to the Thunder Warriors.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the men of iron, the idea was there wasn't a need for a standing militia and regular soldiery.
[SPEAKER_00]: But with generic modification, you could actually make humans that could hold up to a man of iron and combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they were better, they were faster, they were stronger, and more and more savage than the man of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to cover this in our next episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that technology probably saved humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then also, almost destroys it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oops, just on Terra, just on Terra, but this does go to the Unification War space marines, etc.
[SPEAKER_00]: But from a genomic engineering standpoint, the most important piece of this era are the navigators.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have discussed this before.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have no idea where the navigators came from.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just appeared likely they were created by the emperor of mankind.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: When I first read this, you're notes on this, I agree on this because I think that the emperor, because they his retinal deal, I think that the emperor was consistently nudging humanity.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I also think as usual, he made epic mistakes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the emperor
[SPEAKER_01]: thought that everything was going so well that he would take care of the other the big things, you know, can you?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll just how are we going to travel?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'll just fix everything and then stuff went real wrong while he was doing other stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll just I'll I'll I'll I'll nudge humanity by creating navigators.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with their creation and we'll cover in a minute, the warp drives shapes humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now navigators are unique.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're born with a third eye that can actually peer into the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the navigators become the first humans outside of a couple random psychors like the emperor, which thanks to we now know did exist.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was some canon wise was actually always a question mark.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they're even worse, psychors on Terra, when the emperor was wandering around, we now know that there were.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the third eye, I think he was highly nearing them, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he was one hundred murdering everyone and they could find because he didn't want them learning the secrets.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: This third eye is a connection to the warp, but what's interesting about them, it also mutates them heavily.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even the early current navigators are grotesquely mutated, but even this era of navigator were really horribly mutated.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would have weird, their limbs would bend at weird angles.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would actually odd shapes.
[SPEAKER_00]: their heads, their whole body was just horrifically mutated.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one was us of teaching them any defense against this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about the fact, what's worse?
[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you had effectively a stadium yelling at you, twenty four seven three sixty five.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they could see through the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would hear the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would feel the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're a little bit different than psychers.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so what makes them interesting is that there are warp touched being at a time when nothing was known of the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: So to Brad's point, no one teaches you how to do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: You just kind of can see into the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not written about how made them felt a corruption, but it was not a few.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would eventually, because while the warp didn't flow through them the way it does a siker, they still are spending all day every day with access to the warp, and this is a warp at this stage that's getting pretty active.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Zeanch, Corn, Nergal are all moving around.
[SPEAKER_00]: There are tortured souls within the warp screaming out, and they're just kind of looking at them.
[SPEAKER_01]: We also didn't do anything happy about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, are we going to teach the navigators how to separate this and make their lives better?
[SPEAKER_01]: Or we could just lock them in places and tell them to focus on the work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which is an option, but although interestingly enough, though, around the lock in the place, they did, and we're going to cover warp drives in a second, become a de facto nobility at this time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because they end up allowing humanity.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the houses become that the actual navigators, though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's always the hard part because you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: You read the lore.
[SPEAKER_00]: It talks about how the, like, oh, like the, even currently, the navigator houses are noble houses that have incredible power on terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: But every ship you hear about the net is just locked into something and being yelled at by a captain.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chained into something where you go, stop trying to look at the real space and tell me what's going on in the war.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: The houses have huge power.
[SPEAKER_01]: The navigators themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: That plays that great.
[SPEAKER_00]: But let's actually talk about earlier.
[SPEAKER_00]: I made the comment that the genetic engineering was a longest lasting legacy of this time and I'm completely wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the work drive by a massive margin.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the warp, yeah, the warp drive is actually created before the navigator, which is, again, why I think the navigators were made by the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think humanity made a warp drive and he was like, yeah, that's not going to work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's some people who started eye to make it work.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about how big of a Johnson you have to have no gallery field at no navigator.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just go, I'm going for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's have some fun with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the one I do like about this, but you do have a challenge.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the first, you know, as we said before, the humanities heading out into the galaxy in sub-light travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first few dozen systems, you're looking at, you know, eight years, twelve years, maybe a couple generations.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you want to get something further out.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's like,
[SPEAKER_00]: where we're saying, hey, if we move at almost the speed of light, we can get there in three hundred years, it's just not functionally doable.
[SPEAKER_00]: The energy cost alone makes it impossible to get there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the engineers are humanity noticed that there's another way there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they could use a specialized technology to take a shortcut, basically from reality to another reality by traveling through not reality.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the first
[SPEAKER_00]: warp drives, but it's the Brad said, they didn't, didn't know it was in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you had a yellow swag through hell, basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're watching all bunch of event horizons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for those of you who haven't seen event horizon, it's, it's a very good sci-fi movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: Those of you have seen event horizon and didn't know it was a forty-k movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's like one of, I would say probably the, I should not probably, it is the the most accurate and best forty-k movie.
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it has no forty-k in it whatsoever, it is exactly a dead rip off of what happens in Warhammer forty-k.
[SPEAKER_00]: So is dead space in this category too?
[SPEAKER_00]: No dead space is different.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was an artifact, never mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but anyway, so after a few trips, by the way, humanity starts to make guller fields.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's how it's written.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how it's written.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how it's written in the lore, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: It just originally there were no guller fields and after a short period of time, they made some guller fields.
[SPEAKER_00]: No definition of how it was made.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I assume everything around this was the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: I assume everything around this was humanity need to go further.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, helps them make a war drive.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they all, they are.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're thinking of the emperors doing whatever the hell he's doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You need a secret lab, and then realize, oh shit, are they making work jobs without a gallery field?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, actually, you know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: The thing is, actually it's worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the emperor gave them work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Technology says, here you go, guys, settle the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he has to learn about all the event horizon events, where the entire ships appear where everyone's walking, holding their own eyeballs.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes, crap, all right, gallery field.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a gallery field.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get the next part.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which it's like, they can't see.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's unmatte the travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you just basically point your ship in a direction and press go and then you go into hell and then you release the go button and you come back out of hell somewhere in the general direction of what you were facing.
[SPEAKER_00]: So these early worth jumps are just a series of just hops where you hope you don't appear inside of a sun.
[SPEAKER_00]: So out of nowhere, the emperor goes, yeah, okay, again, my bad guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here are some navigators.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, throughout the mention, the more timer, I'm resisted to everything that's in the warp.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can see the warp, and I can totally do this all by myself.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my bad on you guys died.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's sitting in his little throne in the Himalayas, looking into the warp, watching these ships just go, oh yeah, that one just gets snuffed out and going, yep, that one's on me, my bad, my bad, my bad, sorry guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's, here's some more technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, he just, it's not these bags lazy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, all right, this to be, they'll figure this out, won't they?
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so with the navigators though, now,
[SPEAKER_00]: they can make singular workshops, able to check traverse with the hundreds or thousands of light years and weeks, months or maybe even a couple of years and a really long journey.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fun side note on that, by the way, there are stories of sublight colony vessels taking up from from from Seoul, all like a fifty or hundred year journey to go settle a system.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right after they took off, the warp drive is invented.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they arrived for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they arrive in a system like seventy five years after leaving and find the entire systems fully developed by some people who left like ten years after they did and they just get there and go, oh shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you're showing up at the conversion van full of stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, I brought STCs, though, are these still cool?
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, mankind can suddenly go anywhere they want the galaxy on molested.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because one of the issues with sublight travel is obstacles, organic or inorganic, an exploding star, a comet, asteroid belt, Xenos, and a lot more things fill the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: So a ship that's traveling through the material has to avoid those things, which means you have to take detours.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so there's a decaying sign that could add you get years.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just skip it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with the warp travel, there's go straight through it and they can actually go point eight to point B. It's through hell, but they can go point eight to point B. So with warp travel, and for the most part, at this point, it is safe, but we're getting near the end.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it starts to become really not safe.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because the, at this moment, the galaxy, what their own to be is they're able to do all this is because the galaxy is for the taking from mankind.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're able to go anywhere they want.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got technology that surpasses everything out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But their greatest asset is about to be there and doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's because at this stage, the Eldar have begun their fall in earnest.
[SPEAKER_00]: And a lack of focus by the Eldar really is what permitted humanity to burst into the galaxy and begin concrete as if the Eldar were not there.
[SPEAKER_00]: As the Eldar kind of begin their fall into the warp, the warp itself begins to react.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so without the Eldar, they are to prove
[SPEAKER_00]: all the the horrors of the galaxy and and more important or to warn humanity of what's coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: It all is about to fall completely.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, the elder broke the sky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just be honest.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that little like, you know, cliffhanger, we're going to break and set up next week because next week we're going to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: We did a don't cliffhanger.
[SPEAKER_01]: We did double cliffhanger.
[SPEAKER_00]: because we had to set up, but the reason when I wrote these episodes, I wanted to write them up as a setup to give you, hey, look, this is how the idea was episode one, super happy fun times.
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity has invented technology that it's never had before.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is taming the sky, it is taming the stars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity is just going as effectively
[SPEAKER_00]: winning every chance it gets.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have, we have, yeah, we've got entire systems all over the galaxy are human systems.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're trading back and forth with each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is all going to turn into a giant galaxy of nightmares in a rather short period of time.
[SPEAKER_00]: So next week we're going to switch over from the Golden Age of Technology to the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's going to suck super hard for humanity.
[SPEAKER_01]: say, oh, go these technologies, boss mode time for humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, dark age of technology, super sadness.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with that, probably better than now.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I would say things like we can all look you're an old man.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as you get older, you think they were when I was young, things were better.

[SPEAKER_00]: better than dark, you know, we're going to cover dark Asia technology next next week, we'll discuss what life was like on Tara with all the techno barbarian warlords.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go with, you know, blockbuster were kind of mean.
[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't doubt we didn't rewind the VHS tape, but it wasn't, it wasn't techno barbarian.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, anyway, until then, this has been John Barsati and Brad Jester.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you next week.
