00:00:05 Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous people. It is La La Kent And if you are just landing from outer space, it's the Give Them Lala podcast. I've got my little ride or die. 00:00:17 Speaker 2: Hi everyone, it's me. It's jess here. 00:00:20 Speaker 1: I am by the way. I had no idea how short you are until you took your shoes off. 00:00:28 Speaker 2: Thank you, because I'm proud. 00:00:31 Speaker 3: I'm five to one on a good day, I'm like just under five to one, but a little over five that is so cute. It's not cute, it's pathetic. And I have to say, and I'm not going to say five, what are you? 00:00:44 Speaker 2: I'm five? No, I'd rather say five one. But yeah, that's me. 00:00:49 Speaker 1: So the new house I because ocean's crawling now. I make everyone take their shoes off. And if you're like a fixture in the home, like Jessica is, we have house slippers. 00:01:02 Speaker 3: We have house slippers that I accidentally wore home the other day. 00:01:07 Speaker 2: I do it all the. 00:01:07 Speaker 1: Time, and it defeats the whole purpose of the house slippers. I know, right, I looked down on the ground and was like, Jessica's boots are here, but Jessica is not. 00:01:16 Speaker 2: And her slippers are elsewhere. 00:01:18 Speaker 1: Went home, but I'm serious. You took the shoes off, and I was like, oh, well, I do, little peanut, because Lala said something something and I was like, well, I'm sure and she said not really. 00:01:32 Speaker 3: And I said, Lala, what do you tell I'm the shortest person you've ever met? And she was like really, And then I took my boots off, which are like a chunky heel, and she gasped. 00:01:41 Speaker 1: I did, yeah, tiny, little bean, I know, I love it. I mean I love a petite. 00:01:47 Speaker 3: Little little assistants rolling around the house. 00:01:54 Speaker 1: So I had a pretty amazing weekend. 00:01:56 Speaker 3: Oh my god, let's hear because I saw story Instagram story footage okay, and there's no way this is real, but I'm just gonna ask it. 00:02:06 Speaker 1: Anyway. 00:02:07 Speaker 2: Were you at the club? 00:02:08 Speaker 1: I went to the motherfucking club. Oh my god, I did. I did it, okay, And I didn't think I was going to be able to first Before the club. We it was a girls' night and we had dinner at Delilah, which was amazing, but it was like early bird special. We went to I think around six six thirty, but we went so early because a friend of mine invited us to go to the Dave Chappelle show, which was actually a Bob Saggat tribute. So I don't know if anyone has heard about this. It took place in the Belly Room. I won't go into details because obviously it was, you know, a very intimate setting. I will say it was absolutely incredible. Really, I was like, how am I here right now? I'm witnessing one of the most beautiful moments that I think I'll ever witness in my whole life. Oh wow. I mean there were fifty people in this room. 00:03:19 Speaker 2: Really, in the belly room. 00:03:21 Speaker 3: If you're not from Los Angeles, it's like there's the Comedy Store, which is the main room, and then the belly Room is sort of a room next to it, which is a bit smaller. So yeah, fifty people in this room. 00:03:35 Speaker 2: That's pretty That's. 00:03:35 Speaker 1: A lot, right, No, I mean it felt it was all friends and family of Bob Saggett and obviously people that worked for Dave Chappelle, and I mean John Mayer was there with his guitar and it was just like, jaw on the floor. How am I here witnessing this right now? This is incredible and in Yeah, so we got to go and do that I was so thankful. It'll be a moment I've been thankful. I'll be thankful for forever and guess so after after it's over, we go downstairs outside to like the front of the comedy store, and I'm cool with Collie in a night. At this point, we're like pushing midnight, right, Wow, Yeah that's late. Yeah I was late, and Stossy looks me dead in my fucking eyes and says, we are going to the club Stacy Stossy Schroeder. 00:04:35 Speaker 2: Wait, is that is she a club girl? Because I don't personally know Stacy, I just know her through you. Is she a club girl? 00:04:42 Speaker 1: Okay? So would you say I'm a club girl? No? Okay, times me by like a million, that's how much of it. Not club girl? She is okay, awesome, And come to find out, she just wanted to go to see what people wear at the club these days. Oh that's hilarious. She was videoing every She's like, I'm in shock, And I was also in shock because I'm looking around this club and everyone. A lot of people have sunglasses on, and I'm like, there's no sun in here, and you you ain't Drake, ain't Kanye West are you sure about that. 00:05:21 Speaker 2: I'm sure they weren't Drake Ork. It wasn't Drake or Kanye. 00:05:24 Speaker 1: No, they have security. These people were like people. They were like me with sunglasses on. 00:05:31 Speaker 3: Okay, and it's dark in the club, So how do you not tumble down the stairs? 00:05:35 Speaker 1: That's what I was wondering. I can't even keep sunglasses on during the day when I'm like backing out in my driveway. Yeah, so props to them, but also take your fucking sunglasses off in the nightclub if you're not Drake or Kanye West, Like I'm begging you, She's begging you. But then again, I don't know. Maybe they were famous, because this this is like a new world for me because now it's like, oh, they're famous on talk they're YouTubers. 00:06:01 Speaker 2: And I'm like, hum, I don't know, Yeah, maybe they were. But also like, don't wear your sunglasses. 00:06:08 Speaker 3: It's just even if you are, even if you are super famous, it's not it's not. It doesn't make life easier at the club. And I know it from the footage. I saw that it's dark in that room. It's not like it's like I'm just gonna throw these sunglasses on and my my night's gonna be easier. 00:06:24 Speaker 2: No, you have to watch where you're going. You're gonna run into people. 00:06:27 Speaker 1: It's just a whole different world. I mean I was looking around and there was like a group of these guys, and I mean everyone's in their twenties, right, like early twenties. You can just tell like babyfaces everywhere, right, Like I've missed this world, right, Like I'm in Jessica, I'm in this world again. Okay, Yeah, how crazy is that? Like I'm looking around and I'm like, who is next? Right? Yeah? 00:06:56 Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. 00:06:57 Speaker 1: It was fun. It was so fun. 00:06:59 Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, did you have fun? 00:07:00 Speaker 3: Or was it more of a I'm going to be an outsider looking in look at all these clubgoers enjoy it. But I'm not coming back here for a while. 00:07:09 Speaker 1: You know. I think I I loved going. Yeah, I won't be going back for a while. I think I'm the type of person who's much more into like, let's go to a lounge. I don't like screaming trying to talk to someone. Yeah. And even when I was like drinking and in my early twenties, like the club was just not my scene. Do you dance yeah, like yeah, but I I have a very specific type of music that I want to hear. Okay, I don't want like do you know like EDM. I'm like my body doesn't. Like I'm just now having convulsions trying to keep up with a beat, right, yes, to like move with it right, Like I need something that is like chill that I can lean back with that I can have someone pop that booty for me, you know, like that's my vibe. 00:08:01 Speaker 2: And it wasn't that vibe or it was kind of just like it's all over the place. 00:08:04 Speaker 1: Okay, all of it. I had the best time good, but the best time good. But here's here's where it gets sad. Oh no, this was not just a night out that we were like on a win, let's do it. We planned this night on New Year's Eve. The moms we said let everyone, when can we do it? And we all looked at our calendar and we were like, January fifteenth, is everyone free? And my mom was like, you're taking my daughter out? Yeah, I'll watch the baby. Jacks was like, please go have a girl's night. 00:08:37 Speaker 2: I think that's sweet. 00:08:38 Speaker 3: In all the books, they're like, you guys, remember three weeks from now we're going out to the club and put it on your calendar, like, here's what's happened. 00:08:48 Speaker 1: No, that's exactly what happened. So that was that was my weekend. I got in at one thirty am. That's actually pretty early for the club. And I'm little disappointed, a little late for La La. I was like, it's time for bad one thirty am. How did you feel the next day? Tired? And I know that I'd like, I have a big week this week, like this week is a long one. So I just knew. I knew Sunday is my day of rest. Sunday's just like the Lord. Yes, I may or may not have been in my pajamas all day. That's another story. We won't get into it. We won't get into it. Before we cut to our short break. Let's talk about the tour we're doing it. Give them Laala is going on tour. We are starting in Irvine, California. We are going to cut to a short break and we're going to be back with some voicemails about Ocean biting the shit out of me and how I get her to stop doing it. We'll be right back. We are back. 00:11:18 Speaker 2: We're back. 00:11:18 Speaker 3: Okay, So before we get into these voicemails, Yeah, I have a question. 00:11:22 Speaker 1: What's your question? 00:11:23 Speaker 2: I said, I was going to keep asking. I want to know how the DM game is going. 00:11:29 Speaker 1: Oh, the DM game. I've I only did the one slide in okay, right, the DM is poppin' though, Like the DM is where it's at. 00:11:40 Speaker 3: Oh my god, I know, and I had no idea. No, that's that's what it is these days. Though you don't need to go out, you. 00:11:48 Speaker 2: Don't need to go to the bars. Slide in the DM. 00:11:51 Speaker 1: Is Instagram like a dating app kind of. I mean it's seen. I mean you're asking the wrong person, that's right. You've had a boyfriend for a long time. 00:11:58 Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think it can be anything can be a dating app if you try hard enough. 00:12:04 Speaker 1: I mean it feels like that's where people like. Sliding in the DM is like the new swipe, right. 00:12:09 Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know what it's. 00:12:12 Speaker 3: I feel like it's more because you can find out a lot a lot about a person that way. 00:12:16 Speaker 2: I go to your page, I'm. 00:12:17 Speaker 3: Gonna see videos, I'm gonna see your demeanor, cute photos, see what you're into, so that gives you more Listen. I've never been on the dating apps, but I've heard it's like limited information. Yeah, so you only have a few photos, you only have that quick bio. 00:12:33 Speaker 1: That's what terrifies me, though, jess this is my what terrifies me the most. Yes, like I slid in the DM a while back. If I continue to slide in the DM, first of all, I don't like it makes me feel weird. I just feel like I'm giving a piece of myself to someone where I'm like, I don't even know if you deserve it. 00:12:52 Speaker 2: That's true, you know, point Yeah? 00:12:53 Speaker 1: Yeah, But do you think that when I start talking to boys that they google me? 00:13:04 Speaker 2: One hundred thousand percent? 00:13:05 Speaker 1: That is terrifying and I would like them to not do that. What. 00:13:08 Speaker 2: No, I don't. Why do you think that I just don't. 00:13:12 Speaker 1: Want them googling me? Yeah, I just don't. It's like, just right, keep my name out right because you. 00:13:21 Speaker 2: Can't control what pops up. 00:13:22 Speaker 1: First. 00:13:23 Speaker 3: No, I think it's cool that you're googleable because when you google me, it's like someone from Idaho who is like a newscaster, or like Jessica Walter who was on arrested development and passed away. 00:13:36 Speaker 2: God rest her soul. 00:13:36 Speaker 1: I would rather have that, really, yes, because then it's like I have no control over what people can google, right. Yeah. If the only place you can find me is my own Instagram, that I can control, I dig that. I don't want you watching the show. I don't want you googling shit. I don't want you hashtagging my name and your little freaking search bar. 00:13:56 Speaker 3: Yeah nerve No, Okay, let me ask you this. Do you google someone if you were interested? Would you google this person? 00:14:03 Speaker 4: No? 00:14:04 Speaker 1: I usually just no, I just go to the gram. 00:14:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, and you find it that way. 00:14:09 Speaker 1: Yes? Why would I go to Google and I can go to the gram. 00:14:12 Speaker 2: Because you might find information that they haven't told you. 00:14:16 Speaker 1: I google everyone. 00:14:17 Speaker 2: I google everyone. I google Kyle, I google you. 00:14:21 Speaker 1: I'm googling every. 00:14:21 Speaker 2: Day, Lisa. 00:14:23 Speaker 1: I think I should start googling, but I get it. 00:14:27 Speaker 2: I get it. 00:14:27 Speaker 3: Listen, if you slide in Lalla's DMS and you shoot your shot and you guys get a conversation. 00:14:35 Speaker 2: Going, don't google her. 00:14:36 Speaker 1: Don't google me, just go off go and watch Vanner Pump Rules either. Oh well, okay, because I feel like the type of guy that I'm into like does not watch Vanner Pump Rules, and I would like it to stay that way. Yeah, okay, with all that all being said, now you're making me sweat purposely talking about dms and men. 00:15:00 Speaker 3: Okay, So then we'll go to the voicemails, because if you want to refresh the listeners. You asked a question. You asked for some Ocean advice last episode. 00:15:10 Speaker 1: I think yes, So Ocean has very little hair, but a lot of teeth, six of them, okay, And I still breastfeed and that's a comfort to her. So sometimes she'll bite the nips, but she looks at me and smiles and she knows it's a little bit of a game. But mostly it's like when I'm holding her, she's biting my shoulder, or like when I try to do her nail, she's biting my arm, and it's like, no joke, all right, Those little razor blade teeth really can fuck you up. So I asked you guys to give me advice on how to get her to stop biting. Let's roll the first voicemail. 00:15:50 Speaker 4: Hi, Laala, my name is Michelle. I have been a huge fan of yours since the beginning, but especially now I saw on your Instagram story were asking about ocean and how to prevent babies from biting when it hurts, and you can't really tell them that. So I wanted to tell you an experience that I had when I was a baby. I was apparently a terrible biter, and my mom was very, very frustrated, and one day she just took my arm and she hit me back, and I never better again, and I'm totally fine. I'm twenty seven and I've made it my whole life. I don't have any bite marks, who was an unt of youth or anything like that, but it showed me that it hurts, so I stopped biting her after that. I hope that back could potentially help you. I'm thinking of you, and I love the podcast. Talk to you soon, say. 00:16:54 Speaker 1: Michelle. Oh my gosh. Okay. First of all, just the way that you told that story was awesome. Okay, so this is what I've heard too, because my little brother used to be a bier and my mom and my grandpa bit him back stop yes, yes, on the arm or something wherever I guess, I don't know the arm. Wherever they bite you, I guess is where you bite them back. Oh my god, but it freaks me out, Like if if Ocean bites me, I don't think I could bring myself to bite her bite her back. 00:17:31 Speaker 3: My god, No I would if I saw that, if I walked in and saw you buy Ocean, I'd be like, what is going on? 00:17:37 Speaker 1: Because I've attempted, because I knew that the Easton was a bitter I've attempted to like bite her. It's obviously not hard because I don't think I could bring myself to do that. But now, like hearing a voicemail like this, I'm like, maybe I we'll just bite the shit out of her. I'm just kidding. 00:17:53 Speaker 2: But she laughs. 00:17:54 Speaker 1: When I did it, she was like laughing about it. 00:17:56 Speaker 3: Because you probably this is probably this is like, you know, she's twenty seven, Michelle's twenty seven. 00:18:01 Speaker 2: This is back in the day. It was probably a nice bite. 00:18:05 Speaker 3: Yeah, you probably do was strong, yeah or something, and mars were left, keith marks were left, and you probably did a fun little like. 00:18:14 Speaker 1: Oh, well that's exactly what I did. Yeah. I literally softly bit her and said that, you know, bite the mom oh, and she laughed. 00:18:24 Speaker 2: Yes, she probably wanted it probably made her want to do it. 00:18:26 Speaker 1: It's me dead in my eyeballs and laughed. 00:18:31 Speaker 2: That's really funny. 00:18:33 Speaker 1: There was one person that told me when they do that, you flick up, and I was like, nope. 00:18:37 Speaker 2: You flick on kill. 00:18:39 Speaker 1: No, I'm not flicking my baby. Oh my, I can't. 00:18:42 Speaker 3: No, no, I know when when it well, you can't put hot sauce. 00:18:46 Speaker 2: You could put hot sauce all. 00:18:47 Speaker 3: Over your body because when babies bite their nails. When I used to bite my nails is like a bad habit. My mom put hot sauce on the top of my fingers. I was like six, and so I'd go to bite and then burn it burned my mouth, but then I just rinse my hands off. 00:19:03 Speaker 1: So that doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. Okay, Well, let's see what other voicemails people have left and see if they have the Yeah, the biting. 00:19:13 Speaker 2: That was funny though, Michelle. 00:19:15 Speaker 5: Okay, Hi, my name is Nina. I'm a mom of a three year old and newly pregnant again. But girl, I've been there with the teeth biting. Oh my god. Okay, So something that was really helpful for us. There's a book called Teeth or Not for biting by Elizabeth Verdick. 00:19:36 Speaker 4: It's really cute. 00:19:38 Speaker 5: You can get it on Amazon. But we would read that book every single day. We also have a Feelings Corner in our room, something by Generation Mindful. Check it out. You create a nice safe space to talk about feelings and things. You can hear my little one in the background. Anyway, we would go there and we would talk about it, and it was super helpful. If you're not for biting, good luck. 00:20:02 Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to get that book because I can't say that I'm fully sold on the biting of my baby. Yeah, I just can't gnaw on her like she's a fucking chicken wing. It doesn't feel right, you. 00:20:13 Speaker 2: Know, especially if she laughs. It doesn't work. 00:20:16 Speaker 1: It doesn't work. And I'm not willing to bite her any harder at the age of ten months. Okay, Yeah, but I like the feeling corner where like you go and you can express your feelings and all of that stuff. I have a feeling that Ocean's gonna be a feeler because she is a water baby to her core, okay, and she's you know her, she's very chill. She's an angel baby. Like literally, we go out put her in a high chair. You don't even know she's there. Yeah. But when she's done, she's done. She's done. Yeah, Like there's no build up. It's like chill too, I'm over it, put me to bed. Has no time for you trying to like do what you're doing, you know. And she's on a very tight schedule. So I know that when she's older, she's gonna be stuck in how she's feeling. And I have friends that are pisces and they're waterworks. I thought I was sensitive. I deal with my best friend Madison, who's a Pisces. The two of us together sobbing messes all the time, all the fields. 00:21:19 Speaker 3: Really, Oh, I didn't know Madison was a Pisce's that's beautiful that your Madison is for anyone who's been living under a ruck. Lala's a best friend in the whole wide world. And they're like sisters. 00:21:31 Speaker 2: And the fact that you have a daughter. 00:21:33 Speaker 1: They're one day apart their birthdays. Oh, I know, God, I know. 00:21:37 Speaker 2: Were you a feelings kid, I can't I was. 00:21:42 Speaker 1: I don't know that. I was like in my feelings like that, like a big crier, but I was hyper. I don't remember crying a lot I remember being hyper sensitive to other people's emotions around me though. Yeah. Yeah, like I was a super independent case, which Ocean is is going to be the same way. I can see it. Yeah. I can't even feed her anymore. She has to feed herself, which crazy, So all the baby spoons I just bought her are a waste, like because she can't control her hand yet to feed herself. Yeah, but yeah, she has no interest in you doing anything. Yeah. 00:22:21 Speaker 3: I like the feelings corner idea. I think that's really sweet and cute. And when I used to babysit and nanny, we had a feeling step for one of the so it was like three steps up the stairs. Yeah, and we'd sit there, yeah, and I'd say, why did you just make that decision? And we talk about right, what was making you feel like you had to hit your sister, right, that kind of stuff. 00:22:41 Speaker 1: So I think that's cute. My mom told me that it's super important when you have kids and you do time out, that you never make them do time out in their bedroom because their bedroom is supposed to bring them a lot of peace and it shouldn't be for punishment, Like you don't want them to associate their bedroom with punishment. Yes, so to have like the thirds or sitting in the corner. 00:23:02 Speaker 3: Yeah, I heard that, and that makes sense because when I used to go to time out, I loved it. 00:23:06 Speaker 2: I'll spend all day in here in my bedroom. I'll draw color. 00:23:10 Speaker 1: Too many activities? You have any activities to be sitting in time out? 00:23:13 Speaker 2: Yes, that's a great tip though. 00:23:15 Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was good. I thought it was a good one. So anytime that ocean acts a damn fool, gonna place her somewhere that is not that fun. Yeah, yeah, what's the next voicemail? 00:23:28 Speaker 2: Next voicemail? 00:23:30 Speaker 6: Hi long. My name is Sarah and I'm a mom of two boys to a six year old and an eleven year old. To answer your question about the biting, I simply just put my finger in my son's mouth to help stop biting. Lately, my eleven month old wants to bite my shoulder. He'll go for the boo when he wants to breastfeed. So I just simply put my finger in his mouth and say ouch, and then he kind of looks at me. 00:23:57 Speaker 5: And he's like, oh, okay, I letter not bite. 00:23:59 Speaker 6: I hope that help thinks. Bye? 00:24:01 Speaker 1: Okay, Sarah, that I can get down with. I can get down with the ouch. And here's the thing. I am not bite shaming anybody. You you want to teach your kid not to bite, you lay a bite on him like you do, you boo, like whatever. We all got our own thing. We're all just doing what we can do to have nice kids around, right, Yes, But the ouch thing, it's all about the word and the tone. Yeah, okay. So I'm gonna shove my finger into Ocean's mouth and when she bites it, shove it it, not shove it, yes, place it delicately in her mouth. And when she bites me, I'm gonna say ouch. 00:24:45 Speaker 2: And scare the living shit out of. 00:24:47 Speaker 1: Her the way I talked to Oh, oh, do you hear to mama? That's why she just still bite. 00:24:54 Speaker 3: I was gonna say that seems like she would laugh and then keep doing it. Yes, But I love her so much, I know, and it's almost like, Oh, she's everything that I said. 00:25:04 Speaker 1: If my baby does this, this is what I'm gonna do. My baby is kind of doing. And it's like, it's so cute when she bites me. It's so cute when she screams bloody murder in her crib. You know, it's all so cute. And I can now see when when you go out to dinner and people's kids are running around and you're like, can you shut them up and make it stop, and they're looking at him laughing. It's because there's nothing your kid does that is like not cute. Yeah, you literally think it's all like totally tolerable. Yeah, Oh god, am I saying this, And I'm gonna have the kid that's running around Ggi Friday is screaming at everybody throwing shit. 00:25:45 Speaker 3: No, because I think she'll be the kind of kid like you were just saying, in her feelings, that's like coloring at the table and letting mommy and gg have a nice night. 00:25:54 Speaker 1: Have a nice sparkling water. Sparkling water take the edge off of the day. 00:25:59 Speaker 2: That it's cute. 00:26:00 Speaker 3: I like that idea, though, saying ouch, but maybe like a sad like ouch. 00:26:05 Speaker 1: She might still laugh though, well, she does laugh when I pretend cry, so maybe it isn't much of a feeler. If she's laughing at me while I'm crying, I'm gonna say she's the stone cold. 00:26:18 Speaker 2: She's like the Grinch. When the Grinch was a baby, like. 00:26:21 Speaker 1: No, she is the Grinch, doesn't She kind of look like the baby Grinch. The baby Grinch is adorable, by the way. Baby Grinch is so so cute. But he has those big brown eyes and just the little swoop of hair, a little swoop, and Ocean has that she does. She has banks. I'm in fear that she's gonna have a mullet, But what am I gonna do but extensions? Then she don't really have a mullet. That's why you just stick with the bows. 00:26:49 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and they look cute and she loves them, so yeah. 00:26:54 Speaker 1: But a lot of people on my Instagram, not a lot, very few actually, but I still notice them are like, you're a baby has bows on all the time, You need to take them off. This is Instagram. This is for a photograph, right, Shut the fuck up. You're not living at my house, because if you did, you would see my baby and pajamas and onesies and no bow on covered in food constantly because she literally hulks her bib off, hulks her bibof. I've never seen strength like Oceans. 00:27:26 Speaker 2: No, she and it. One second the bibs on, you turn your you turn your head, it's off. 00:27:31 Speaker 1: But it's a ripping it off, like the same with her bows. She gets tired. That thing is being incredible hulked off of her Yeah okay, yeah, and the things that she's able to move. I'm impressed by her strength. She could very well be an MM fighter. 00:27:48 Speaker 2: Maybe that's her future. Is that a wrestler an MMA fighter? I don't know. 00:27:53 Speaker 3: I don't know the difference between like the MMA kick like all the I think Connor McGregor is the same as like Dionne Wilder or Deontay Wilder. 00:28:02 Speaker 1: I think they are. 00:28:03 Speaker 2: Are they Okay? Well, then there you go. There you go, like Hull Cogan is in that. 00:28:08 Speaker 1: No, hu is a wrestler. See, it is different. 00:28:12 Speaker 2: It's different. 00:28:13 Speaker 1: An MMA fighter. They have boxing gloves. A wrestler, I think doesn't have gloves. 00:28:24 Speaker 2: Is this true? 00:28:29 Speaker 1: That's how you tell the difference the gloves. Do you wear gloves? We fight? One's a boxer, one's a wrestler. 00:28:37 Speaker 2: But there's something. 00:28:38 Speaker 3: There's boxer wrestlers, and now I know there is you're right, boxer wrestler, and they're all different. 00:28:46 Speaker 2: They're all different. 00:28:47 Speaker 1: They're all different. Yeah, okay, so how did we get on wrestlers? What was it? 00:28:52 Speaker 2: Oh, the ocean might be one full circle. 00:28:56 Speaker 1: Now we got onto it. Do we have time for one more? Yes? 00:28:59 Speaker 2: This is the great? 00:29:00 Speaker 7: Okay, Hey, well, my name is Hillary and I a license mental health canclor and fellow beastfeeding mom and I saw your question about how to not get baby Ocean to bite when she's nursing, and at that age all behavior is based on association. So the best thing you can do is take that booby away every time she bites you, and she'll stop real quick. Good luck and hopefully those teeth stop biting anything that they're not supposed to have a good. 00:29:35 Speaker 1: One, Hillary, I love the thought of taking something away from Ocean that she but it's so comforting. And can I tell you this is what she does. She'll be on the boob and suki sucky, loving it, living for it. Once she's done, like she's full, then the nipple becomes a chew toy and it's like Max, you have Oh I do that's fun? Like that's what it turns into. I turn into the grinch and Max not letting go. 00:30:06 Speaker 2: Oh my god, otion is Max? 00:30:08 Speaker 1: Oh my nipple is. 00:30:10 Speaker 2: So you're saying if so, you're saying if you were to take this advice and take the boob away, she'd be like. 00:30:17 Speaker 1: I'm fine, I'm full, let's take it away. Like at this point it's just a chew toy. 00:30:21 Speaker 3: So it's probably the delicate balance between knowing when she's full and right before she starts biting that you have to like be like, okay, we're done and popping out. 00:30:29 Speaker 1: Yes, And when I say how that hurts, she still has it lightly in between her teeth and goes hm and looks at me with a giant smile and laughing, And it's so cute. It's so cute babies are. Even though my nipples are on the verge of bleeding after she does it, I'm like, you are so cute. I cannot deal. 00:30:51 Speaker 2: I don't know if I can do it one day. 00:30:53 Speaker 3: Breastfeed No, I think I can breastfeed, But like having a teeth around my nipple, it kind of just. 00:30:59 Speaker 1: You have no no idea until they start unless they bite it. Like I have no idea that Ocean has teeth unless she does that right right? Yeah, yeah, so where's that? No, breastfeeding is awesome. I still do skin to skin with Ocean in the bath. You do, yes, and she's ten months old. 00:31:17 Speaker 3: What is that for someone who doesn't know me? Is it just holding her in the bath when you're both naked. 00:31:22 Speaker 1: Yeah. Skin to skin is like one of the most important things to do after you give birth. Like they literally take the baby out of the womb and directly place them on your chest and it creates such a bond between you and your baby. And I could not get enough of it when, oh my gosh, when she was a newborn, it was constant, like I never stopped. Now it's harder to do because she's ten months old, and I just feel like I can't sit downstairs naked living room with my ten month old who has no desire to sit still when she's awake. But we do it at nighttime for bath time, and for some reason, well not for some reason. I know what it's like to be in the bath and it feels awesome and you do get sleepy. Yeah, and she like we have our skin to skin where she lays directly on me and I like put the warm water on her back and she just lays there. 00:32:14 Speaker 2: Oh that's really sweet. 00:32:16 Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm rocking that until the wheels fall off. Yeah, I'm rocking the breastfeeding. I'm rocking the skin to skin, like I don't want to let it go because I don't know when I'm gonna have another baby. Yeah yeah, you know. 00:32:27 Speaker 3: Yeah, so so then it sounds like all of this is really great advice. 00:32:32 Speaker 1: I just love hearing people's advice, but also from like their own personal experiences, you know. Yeah, like we're moms out here doing the damn thing, and I'm proud of us, proud of you. It's not easy, and I'm super proud to know and have this person on my podcast. Today, I have Jessica Curry and her daughter Parker. And for those of you who are not familiar with the Parker family, I was lucky enough to meet them at a park one day. We connected on Instagram and I remember Parker being photographed in a museum. She was, I want to say, around two or three. I'll find out exactly, but she's staring up at a portrait of Michelle Obama and it was captured. Her mouth is open, like she cannot believe what she's looking at, and it went viral. And I've seen Parker do many interviews, many cooler things than the Give Them La La podcasts. I'll say that, and she is the cutest little girl in the entire world, and I'm so excited to talk to her. I'm excited to talk to her mama. And the interview is absolutely incredible. But we did it on a day where I did not have Jessica present, and I forgot to double click the record button. But thank god for Zoom because we captured all of the audio. We have amazing video that's going to be up on our Instagram page to give them all a podcast. And when we come back, we're going to roll that interview. You guys are gonna die, and you have to make sure to check out my Instagram page because the videos are even more amazing. We will be right back with Jessica and Parker Curry. We are back, and I have two incredible well, I have an incredible woman who is raising an incredible daughter and other children. I have Jessica and Parker Curry. I met you and your mom and dad, and you had two other kids with you, right, Jessica, you have a daughter and a son. 00:34:45 Speaker 8: Ava and Cash. 00:34:46 Speaker 1: Yes, you guys were at the park and I saw you guys there. 00:34:51 Speaker 8: Remember you are the lady with badl Chad with yeah star. 00:34:59 Speaker 9: Yeah, we didn't know that when we were at the park that day. That's the beauty of this story because she is a normal person, wasn't a disguise, she was just a mama at the park with her baby. 00:35:13 Speaker 1: I think I might have had makeup on that day, Parker, Laala looks different without her face on. 00:35:18 Speaker 9: No, you didn't make up on that day. 00:35:20 Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know, Okay, So I was. I was a vibe that day too. 00:35:26 Speaker 9: I guess I. 00:35:29 Speaker 1: Shot because I think that would be a little too generous of me to say I've been in some movies. I wouldn't call me a star though you're a star, though you have written books? Is that crazy to see, Parker. 00:35:42 Speaker 8: I've been a zoo with thousands of kids who all had my book. 00:35:47 Speaker 1: That was your face. I love this child, Jessica, you have no idea. Okay. So I met this cute family at the park. Jessica and I then exchange d MS, and I immediately already knew who Jessica and Parker Curry were because they went viral when a photograph was taken of Parker looking up at a portrait of beautiful Michelle Obama and and the photograph everybody fell in love, everybody became obsessed. It was everywhere. Tell me about the moment that that happened. 00:36:28 Speaker 9: You can tell me. 00:36:30 Speaker 8: I just slipped up at that portren it just to write a book. That's the shorter version of my version. But her version's gonna take like thirty minutes. 00:36:44 Speaker 1: I love all the versions. 00:36:47 Speaker 8: Is gonna take like half of our time. So he mean that one for another time. 00:36:55 Speaker 9: Well, yeah, Tucker gains the short version. But you know, we went. I took her and her sister. I'm not gonna go through the. 00:37:03 Speaker 8: Whole thing, but but you're gonna. 00:37:05 Speaker 1: Go, like. 00:37:07 Speaker 9: I'm gonna get I'll give about the medium version. Can I give the medium version, short median version? Okay? Okay. So we took them to the National Portrait Gallery because I wanted them to see the portrait of Michelle Obama that had just been unveiled. And going to museums for us was like not unusual, Like at the time we lived in d C. Where you know, the Smithsonian museums are free, which is unusual. So we went and Parker almost zipped right by the portrait the first time, and then she came back and obviously, you know how it is as a mom You're like, you know, I got I want to get my picture, I want to take this picture, you know. But she wouldn't turn around for me. She was literally stuck in that moment, and she was focused on the portrait and spell bout I love that. And so I got a picture of her facing the portrait, and I didn't know that someone else had taken a picture of her, and that picture clearly showed that her mouth was wide open. She was having a moment, having a little moment. And that picture, as you said, subsequently went viral and I think really inspired a lot of people and inspired a lot of little kids. And we've been fortunate that we've had the opportunity to write Parker Looks Up, which is about that moment, and and Parker Shines On. 00:38:41 Speaker 1: Of course, we can't forget that one. 00:38:44 Speaker 9: Forget Parker shines off. It in the background. 00:38:48 Speaker 1: It is in the background as it should be. 00:38:51 Speaker 9: She has oceans. 00:38:53 Speaker 8: Can can I see ocean? 00:38:55 Speaker 4: Yes? 00:38:56 Speaker 1: Yes, let me bring her in. 00:38:57 Speaker 9: We got another party crasher who just came into year. 00:39:05 Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, such a beautiful family. I saw you at the park that day and was like, who is this family? They are so cute and sweet and and I loved everything about it. 00:39:19 Speaker 9: No, you missed one person. 00:39:21 Speaker 8: A Marquise cash motion. This is a Martise mash in. 00:39:27 Speaker 9: This is the second. 00:39:28 Speaker 8: Okay, this is a Marquis care In. The second more than the first is coming here today. 00:39:36 Speaker 9: Yeah, okay, is the ocean coming. 00:39:39 Speaker 1: Ocean's gonna come in. She's just finishing up her eggs and then she's gonna come say hi to us. She's having having breakfast. She might have took him. She had a morning nap. She's been up since six thirty. 00:39:53 Speaker 9: Oh, we know that life. 00:39:55 Speaker 1: We know that life. 00:39:56 Speaker 8: Kicks like. 00:39:59 Speaker 1: Writing another book. No, get into work, plain laughing Parker, When when you saw the portrait of Michelle Obama? What made you stop and look up and made you so happy? Can you tell me everything, everything, everything, everything about the portrait. That's a great answer. I love that answer. And when did you decide that you felt you wanted to write a book after my. 00:40:24 Speaker 8: Mom said hey, let's write a book in her head? And then you told me so like. 00:40:29 Speaker 1: You thought that that sounded fun. 00:40:31 Speaker 8: And then okay, time bestseller, and then and then we decided to write another book. Now, mommy, now we read. 00:40:38 Speaker 1: Now. 00:40:39 Speaker 8: We're writing a two ready to reach called Parker Dresses Up and You're from Mark and me and Mommie are thinking about reading enough right to read. I'm thinking about Parker, little go back in time to see your mom as a secure child. 00:40:54 Speaker 1: You have such great ideas. Ocean would love those two new books. And how old? How old are you? 00:41:03 Speaker 9: Parker? 00:41:04 Speaker 1: You're six? So when when was the picture taken of you looking up at the portrait? A two years old? 00:41:18 Speaker 9: She said, talking to a famous movie star who was by Friank Parker. 00:41:21 Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm going to FaceTime you every day to make me feel. 00:41:24 Speaker 9: Better about me. 00:41:26 Speaker 5: Give me your number. 00:41:29 Speaker 1: Well, FaceTime will be girlfriends. I love that. I mean, Jessica, you have to. You have to look at her and be like, where did she come from? She's so smart. She the fact that she's sitting here on a FaceTime doing a podcast and holding a conversation. I mean you actually zoom zoom, thank you? Okay, I did say FaceTime, I'm getting old? 00:41:57 Speaker 9: Yeah whatever, not at all looks like a teenager, doesn't she. 00:42:03 Speaker 8: She looks like it's only nineteen years old. 00:42:06 Speaker 1: Oh tell me more, Parker. 00:42:08 Speaker 9: Friends like to call me a teen mom. I think that's funny. She looks like a mom, doesn't she She looks so young. 00:42:15 Speaker 1: But how can you looks? 00:42:16 Speaker 8: How old are you? 00:42:17 Speaker 1: I'm thirty one in one year younger, and my mommy, she's thirty two. 00:42:21 Speaker 9: Actually I'm thirty two. Okay, I'll take it. I'm thirty two. 00:42:26 Speaker 1: We'll take it. We'll take it where we can get it. I mean, dude, do you just listen to her and go like, where did you come from? She's like a brilliant little girl. 00:42:35 Speaker 9: She's definitely an old soul. I think well, I mean you have an old soul, which means like you're a little bit before your time. Truly, I think so, because if you think about it, when she went viral and she was two years old, you know, we met Michelle Obama. She invited us to meet her and we spent time with herdies Oh sing a girl. 00:43:02 Speaker 8: When one mommy a doll? The that's you one. We need to hook her up with Michelle Obama and Barack Obama. Where would you go to have brunch with the first lady? 00:43:16 Speaker 1: Well, I have no idea, because if I met Michelle Obama, I would probably forget how to speak what did you say to her? 00:43:23 Speaker 8: Okay, so do you want to hire me? You had a dance party? So we had a dance parting. 00:43:33 Speaker 1: And you just had the best time. I mean, was she nice? 00:43:36 Speaker 5: And then yeah? 00:43:36 Speaker 8: And she gave me a personal tour of her office to our family. 00:43:41 Speaker 1: Wow. And did did you give her your book? 00:43:44 Speaker 5: Yeah? 00:43:46 Speaker 1: Your first one, Parker looks Up. 00:43:48 Speaker 8: And it was signed. 00:43:49 Speaker 1: You have a signed book by the first Lady. 00:43:53 Speaker 8: No, we signed it for her. 00:43:55 Speaker 1: Oh, you signed it for her and gave it to her, lucky first lady. Right, So talk to me about being a New York Times bestseller because Parker. I don't know if you know this, but I wrote a book and I did not make that list. Why you should ask them? I don't have it with me right now. 00:44:14 Speaker 9: Books, Well, don't shame or we do not have a copy of Parker looks Up in Here. We should be ashamed. We don't have a copy of Parker looks Up. We have Parker Shines Off, Parker looks Up in Here. We need to ask people, Okay, we need to ask the New York Times bestseller people why La LA's book was not a New York Times bestseller. That doesn't make sense, Yeah, Parker, can you call them? 00:44:41 Speaker 8: Yeah? 00:44:41 Speaker 1: I can only hope that when Ocean, you know, gets older, that she can. I mean, I'm watching you, Parker, and I cannot believe that you're only six years old and you've written books, one which is a New York Times bestseller. When do you think that we can expect your your next book? 00:45:01 Speaker 9: Actually in four days. 00:45:04 Speaker 1: In four days you have a third book coming out. 00:45:07 Speaker 9: Yeah, And then six days after that we have our fourth book coming out. And then actually two days ago we just signed a contract for our sixth book, contract. 00:45:17 Speaker 1: My mouth or my jaws on the ground. I mean, this is incredible and you should be you should be so proud of yourself, Parker. Are you proud of yourself? 00:45:27 Speaker 4: Yes? 00:45:28 Speaker 1: And then kind of I'm playing with you. Oh, I'm proud of playing with you too. And what do you tell kids your age if they have have dreams to write a book? What would you tell them? Would you tell them it's easy? Would you tell them to go for it? What would you say to them? 00:45:42 Speaker 9: What would be your best advice for other kids? 00:45:45 Speaker 8: Keep dreaming, keep playing, and keep working hard during that been playing. 00:45:51 Speaker 1: Yes, that's the most important. 00:45:53 Speaker 9: Yeah, kids in. 00:45:56 Speaker 8: A book you can write a book about play. That's the idea. 00:46:00 Speaker 1: That's the idea. And I think that's great advice because. 00:46:04 Speaker 8: You'll get the i of writing a book about while you're playing. 00:46:07 Speaker 9: That's that's very good advice, actually sound advice. 00:46:10 Speaker 1: That's great advice. And I love that she's six years old telling us that the most important thing is playing, because it can't be all work at the age of six, right right, you gotta have you gotta have a lot of bit of play. 00:46:23 Speaker 6: I love. 00:46:26 Speaker 8: These days. 00:46:27 Speaker 9: We sing a lot of spots this these days. It's probably my fault too. That's okay. 00:46:32 Speaker 1: Where the sing song house? I mean everything I say to ocean, I'm singing. So where when these books come out? Can people get your books that are here right now and your brand new. 00:46:44 Speaker 9: Books Children's book well, yes, Children's Book World in LA does have a lot of our books in stock and every and anywhere books are sold, including Target and Costco. And you can go to Simon She's to his website and they'll direct you to everywhere that you can buy a book. 00:47:03 Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of you, Parker. You are a bright light. I want you to keep writing books. I want you to keep playing. I want you to keep making a difference. Are you the oldest of all the kids? Oh, it's a big weight on your shoulders, So you got to teach them the ways? Huh yeah, patch yourself on the back. 00:47:24 Speaker 9: The example, right, Yes, I. 00:47:28 Speaker 1: Love it. And before I let you guys go, Jessica, what would you tell parents who have an ambitious child. You're trying to make her dreams come true. You're still a mom to two other kids, you're still a wife. 00:47:39 Speaker 9: How do you do this? I don't know. That's the first honest and true thing that comes to my mind, because it was already a lot, certainly juggling being a mom of multiples. I had two before you know, Parker went viral. When she went viral, was just two of them. It was already a lot at that point. So I honestly just don't put too much pressure on myself. I try to take a lot of care of myself, whether that means just making sure I take like a bath every day, or or you know, find some time for a me day. But just like everyone and anyone else who's a mom, trying to balance and there's a lot of charts, there's a lot of calendars, but also, you know, Parker and our experience going virals what inspired me to write the books. I already had like a little small mom blog that I was writing because a lot of my family and my friends were like inspired by the things that we were doing during the week and on the weekends. And so while I didn't consider myself a writer, when I had the opportunity to write the book, it was important to me that they were all included. I mean, you know, Parker looks up, includes Parker and Eva because it's the story of that day that we were at the museum, and Ego was there too, even though she was in the picture, she was little, so she was in our stroller, but she was there too. She got to see the portrait, and Parker shines on as you know, on the cover. All three of them are there. So we took a moment, an extraordinary moment, and have turned it into something really special for our family. And obviously family is really important to me. So the fact that we're all involved now in this brand that we're building to empower kids is probably why it's so easy to keep going. 00:49:29 Speaker 1: That really is, And I love that you said that you don't know how you're doing it. 00:49:33 Speaker 9: That's so honest. 00:49:35 Speaker 1: I feel that, I know my listeners will feel that as well. And not putting pressure on yourself. You just you do what you can. But you should be extremely proud, and so should you, Parker and I'm gonna I'm gonna bring Ocean in so you can see her. Thank you so much for being on my podcast today. 00:49:51 Speaker 9: We are honored to be your guest, So thank you, thank you. 00:49:54 Speaker 1: Okay, yes I'm going to let my guests go and then I'm going to bring Ocean on. Thank you so much, you guys for listening to the Give Them While Out podcast with Just Fim Parker Curry and we will catch you next week
