Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:33
Speaker 3: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:34
Speaker 4: Welcome everyone a Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday, October the first.

00:00:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, oh that.

00:00:40
Speaker 4: Was nice of you.

00:00:41
Speaker 5: Oh Tuesday Pop.

00:00:43
Speaker 4: I can't believe it's October, October first, Like, it doesn't feel like it should be October. I thought we just got into twenty twenty four and now it's October and you can give shown the clocks puppet shop fuld line. That's eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We talked a lot yesterday, so if you want to talk about the game, your excitement about it, that's good a vision Auto glass text machine is seven seven two four five two five four in this station sponsored by the TJ's Midal office. You call TJ, He'll make them pay. I'm here with Ryan. We got folks from Owen County, Owen's Borough, Yep, Baxter, Tennessee, which I didn't even know, but originally from Shelbyville. Uh, it's a it's an exciting morning. You're wearing green. And we decided today to uh to invite because of his first place finish in the Haybail contest. You know, Drew's on vacation this week for people. I think I forgot to say that yesterday. Uh, we decided to invite Billy and allow him to co host with us. Billy, nice to see you fresh off your victory, the first time you've ever not come in last in a KSR related event.

00:01:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, thank you for having me. Man, it's an honor.

00:01:47
Speaker 7: I want to thank all these people for coming out to see the Haybil Toss champion. It's nice of you to make the drive down.

00:01:52
Speaker 4: So he's already gone here.

00:01:53
Speaker 6: Trophy's in the studio. Next time you're there, Mad, you should keep.

00:01:56
Speaker 4: I hope you. I hope you keep it. I know you were very proud about it, and you know I kind of thought when I saw him warmon up, he was gonna win, and that's why I had him go last. You know. That's the showman in me. By the way, Oh yeah, because originally the plan was for me to go last, and then I realized Billy's probably gonna win, so what's a better show if he goes last? But then he actually had to go win and he did.

00:02:19
Speaker 5: The biggest upset of the weekend was not Kentucky over Ole miss It was Billy r Sports winning the Haybelt Championship. And you're right, it could not have played out any more perfect. We're leading up to the whole show. Billy's one throw knocks it out.

00:02:33
Speaker 4: You're excited? Has he? Billy? You? Yesterday were one of about seventy five people in the company yelling at me to finish my training. So I did that last night for people who don't know, you have to do this training, which is the worst stuff in the world. It's awful. It's like, should you be able to take money under the table and the answer is all he's no. And it's like forty five minutes and I hate it. It's the same thing every year, and you all would not stop pestering me. Uh and finally I finished it.

00:03:06
Speaker 6: Last Well, it's really important stuff.

00:03:07
Speaker 7: We got to make sure that all on air talent isn't doing something they're not supposed to do. But it is the second year in a row that you were the last person, I believe in the entire company.

00:03:16
Speaker 5: That's a good honor. That's a great honor.

00:03:18
Speaker 4: When you say in the entire company, do you mean like in this region or do you mean in the entire country.

00:03:24
Speaker 7: I think I mean in the country, because it starts with like, hey, we have this deadline, get mad to do it, and then hey, the deadline's here, Matt still hasn't done it, and then corporate calls and then you know that we really.

00:03:35
Speaker 4: The deadline had already passed, Shannon, which shows it's not really a deadline. What do I always say, a rule is not a rule? In the last punishment, Yeah, and there's really it's really not a deadline.

00:03:43
Speaker 3: Which is why you're not getting a paycheck this week.

00:03:45
Speaker 4: But I did. I did get it done. It's really stupid. I hate it, but I did it during Monday night football last night. I had done it before, and I guess it didn't register it.

00:03:54
Speaker 3: So we found something that you finished last place.

00:03:56
Speaker 4: In I did. I listen. I'm glad to finish last.

00:03:59
Speaker 6: We found Shannon at the Haybel Toss. He finished last in that one.

00:04:03
Speaker 5: I'm a sidebar note to this story that you just kind of admitted to you took a test from a couple of years ago. A couple of weeks ago.

00:04:12
Speaker 4: There was one test that was left from four and a half years ago that I never did, Shane, and that I finished that.

00:04:17
Speaker 3: Which, again it goes back to your point.

00:04:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought it was the room I was supposed to do. Now it was for four and a half years ago.

00:04:23
Speaker 3: I'm still there.

00:04:24
Speaker 4: But uh, but nevertheless, we're caught up now. And it is October first. It is October, all right, you all are on odd one today. There's just dude, there's so much energy over here. It is October first. Uh, the last three months of the year. We've got a great ending to the first September month with the win against Old Miss, and now these next two months are at least for us, at least for me, the busiest months of the year because you have basketball and football going on at the same time together. I also going to be traveling with the NFL with the ESPN couple weeks, so this is a busy time, but we get a bye week to start. I looked at the college football slate on Saturday. It's the worst slate. It might be the worst slate I've ever seen for a Saturday of games. Which brings me to what I want to start with, which is Mario. One of his jobs we he does some stuff for us for Ksbar on the side. This is not part of his I heeart job we pay him separately for And one of the things he has to do is every week he creates a list a banner of a list of all the events here this week, correct, and he does a good job. He does it on Sundays, I guess while he's watching the NFL. And the good thing about it is you never know what Mario's gonna pick, Like like he knows, okay, you always put the Bengals on there, you always put Kentucky on there. There's trivia on Wednesday night. He's got that, yes, But then sometimes he does like a little hodgepodge. You don't know what he's gonna put on there. So the football game Saturday are objectively terrible, right, I mean, look at the look at the slate a games. This game is probably Missouri Texas A and n Wow.

00:06:03
Speaker 5: No, you said game day's going to cal of all plays.

00:06:05
Speaker 4: Game days going to Miami versus Cow, which is a conference game. Miami versus Cow. By the way, you stare at me like you're going to murder me. I hope you like literally like you're in the front row and you you have a look on your face like I'm going to get murdered at any point in this Are you a fan of the show or you just here, like you're just here? I could tell, I could tell, all right, So anyway, Miami at col is game Day. Yes, so Mario has to look at the list and say, okay, with Kentucky not playing, what are going to be the couple of games we highlight. One of the ones he puts Tennessee Arkansas. Makes perfect sense to me, Shannon, right, Tennessee is our rival. They're playing Arkansas. I get it. But then the other one he chose Navy versus Air Force. Now, I grant you that there aren't a lot of great games on here. But Mario looked and saw that and said, you know what I think will bring people to the bar in droves Navy versus Air Force. And I looked, it's on national TV. I wasn't certain that would be a game that would be on television. It's on, uh here at the KS bar, It's on everywhere in the country. What do you think of Mario's decision to highlight is the game of the day Saturday, Navy versus Air Force.

00:07:33
Speaker 5: Maybe he's a step ahead of us. Maybe he knows we're gonna have like military discounts if you come and watch that game.

00:07:39
Speaker 4: No, he didn't know that because I hadn't made that happen, But do you I just I want to know what his mindset was where he sat there and said, you know, hmm, what moves the masses? The Naval Corps and the Air Force. I don't know if they're a corps. But I love Mario, but I sometimes I think he's an a lead that has just dropped onto Earth and that I don't understand. And picking Navy Air Force Billy was one of those moments.

00:08:09
Speaker 6: Yeah, well, Mario supports the troops.

00:08:11
Speaker 4: I hope you do too, well, so I post that, and then everybody just goes, thanks Mario, way to support the troops, way to be part and I then had nothing to do with it. But now Mario has become mister military in the process, and there you go.

00:08:25
Speaker 6: That's a big rivalry game.

00:08:27
Speaker 4: It is Navy. By the way, this is the first time Navy and Army have both been four and oh since like the eighties. Did you know that?

00:08:35
Speaker 5: Really?

00:08:35
Speaker 4: For the first time Navy and Army are both four and oh for the first time since the eighties. I mean, they are setting up. There is a world in which that Navy Army game at the end of the year could be to put somebody in the playoff. I mean it's an outside chance, but there is a world that if these teams keep winning, you could be they could be playing for the playoff there at the.

00:08:55
Speaker 6: End of That would be amazing. That game is already awesome.

00:08:57
Speaker 5: I'd gotta say that game is already you know, we listened to it. We're on the w lot during that week.

00:09:01
Speaker 4: Wouldn't that be?

00:09:01
Speaker 5: That would would be incredible if that game come down.

00:09:04
Speaker 4: So because of Mario and Ryan, of course, Shannon played spoiler as he tends to do, before the show starts. I have decided, since he made it such a big game, that I will do something for should now questions, should we just do it for Navy and and Air Force or should I throw in the army as Yeah, yeah, all of them. Yeah, it's not it's not your alms money, so you could do that, understand, But we will do so because of Mario and his love for the Naval Academy in the Air Force. We will do some sort of military very cool at the bar thanks to Thanks to Mario.

00:09:45
Speaker 5: I love it. I think it's a great idea, and I think you should, you know, go ahead, so we should.

00:09:48
Speaker 4: Come in this weekend. You could take a little picture of your receipt or something and thank Mario Mario for that. So I'll announce what it is later in the week now, Kentucky, this week is off but still sort of a the heels of the Old Miss Victory. And I heard Mark Stoops was on a podcast. I'm not sure what it was because I'd never seen the host, and at no point did it say on the podcast little thing what the name of the show was, so I don't really even know what it is. I would have given them credit I just didn't know what it was. He was on there to talk about the game, and he talked about a lot of things, but one of the things he talked about was his decision to go for it on that fourth down, and I thought it, first of all, was a great explanation. And there were two things that were important to me because I've criticized him a lot for the punting against Georgia. Number One, he said it was different than the Georgia game because in the Georgia game, he basically was like, we had stopped them and we were having a hard time moving it. And he said in the Old Miss game, they he thought it was harder for them to stop them and they could move the ball on. But he also made a very good point, which is what I thought when they went for it. He's like, we're down four, so we have to score a touchdown either way. If I don't get it right there and we get a three and out, they'll kick a field goal and I'll still only have to score a touchdown, which I thought was actually a very smart way to look at yah. He basically was like, we're gonna have to get a stop either way if I go for it. And we stop it. If I go for it, we don't get it, then they go if we're get to stop there kicking a field goal, and I'm in the exact same position I was before. I actually thought that was pretty smart. But then he said something that was maybe most important to me. He said, on every decision, someone is in my ear feeding me the analytics. Now I'm actually really glad to hear that, Yeah, because I sort of wondered if that was happening, because a lot of times his decisions don't necessarily go with the analytics. I had somebody look up last night who has access to that stuff, that the decision he made against Old Miss people were like, well, not so conservative. Now, it actually was the correct analytical play, by the way that if you look it up, it was like fifty five percent go for it. So he actually made the analytical play. But he said, they're always telling it to me, but sometimes I like to do what I think is right in the course of the game. Now, I still disagreeing with him about the Georgia decision, Marian I was glad to hear that at least that information is out there, and if he chooses to go against it, I guess that's ultimately his choice.

00:12:28
Speaker 5: Because we've kind of talked about in question for a couple of years. Is there somebody on the team that helps them with analytics clock management?

00:12:34
Speaker 4: Well, I know there was somebody on the team. The question was was there somebody telling him that stuff in the moment, and it is that they apparently that does happen.

00:12:45
Speaker 5: Good, It's good to hear, you know that somebody's at least has that angle talking to him. And you know he did say after the Georgia game from there on he was going to go with these gut A lot of times.

00:12:54
Speaker 4: I hate that answer, by the way. I hate the going with their gut, but you know, ultimately it's his team. He's got to do what he does because your gut. I mean, why I even have the analytics if you're going with your gut, right? I mean Lane Kiffin for instance. And again we won, so clearly Stoops was correct, and well Stoops did go with the analytics on that old misplay. It's just you know, analytics, by the way, doesn't always mean go for it. Right. Uh.

00:13:20
Speaker 7: I'm gonna speak out of both sides of my mouth here for a second, because I want a coach that uses analytics and bases a majority of their decisions by it. But it also I think there are moments when you have to go against the computer. Why because there are defining moments in every game, and I think that is what is remembered and that is the difference. You heard Lane Kiffin talk about going out a character for stoops and going for it on those fourth and lungs.

00:13:43
Speaker 6: I mean, I think that is it is football.

00:13:46
Speaker 4: But he didn't go against analytics. Of that surprising, analytics would have told it, would have told him to.

00:13:50
Speaker 6: Go Well, that's surprising to hear because that is.

00:13:52
Speaker 4: It's not surprising if you understand what analytics are. Analytics are play all all these situations out a million times what is most likely to happen, and because of exactly what Stoop said, which is you're still gonna be down a touchdown either way, the analytics say that you should go for it. So you know, Lane Kiffin takes the position by the way he goes with analytics no matter what. He's like, my I just go with it. I think a lot of people listening will be like, I like using my gut sometimes to overrule it. I on going for with his gut stoops is zero to one because the analytics told him to go for it on this one, and he did.

00:14:40
Speaker 5: Do you know that? You know they were three for three on fourth down conversions against All Miss. I wonder did the analytics say go on.

00:14:46
Speaker 4: I bet they would have said to go for it every time because we were across midfield. Well the one wasn't. But it's because it's with two and a half minutes. Yeah, but I was. I guess the reason I brought all this up was just to say I am glad to hear that that information is being given him, because after the Georgia game we talked about is he even getting that information? Sounds like he is a pip nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. We are here at ks Bar. We are still celebrating a win against ox again against old Miss at Oxford. Will take a break. Very back Texas Sports Radio. Welcome back, Techi Sports Radio a pep nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text Machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one Verson rights, Matt, Why does Billy take all your grief? He should go to the other stations in Louisville as a heel turn where they would appreciate it. I can tell you why he doesn't. He'd like for someone to hear him.

00:15:42
Speaker 6: That's exactly right. But nobody's listening out there too.

00:15:46
Speaker 4: I'm just a kidding, but I was saying, I'm just kidding. I like, there are people on those stations that I like a lot and are talents. There are others that aren't, but there are a lot of them metal.

00:15:55
Speaker 7: Well, besides Mario just joining us this past year, I was the youngest for the longest time. I feel like, naturally you pick on your youngest brother, right, so you just got to be able to take.

00:16:03
Speaker 4: I mean I basically, I mean I kind of, hopefully in a good natured way, pick on on all the folks that I that I work with. It's harder to do with Drew just because I've known him for so long, but the rest of everybody, I feel like I do. It's it's what I do kind of with Myron on ESPN. But it's in a very loving way, right.

00:16:20
Speaker 5: That's it. We don't mind picking on each other. We don't like we don't let other people pick up yeah.

00:16:23
Speaker 4: No, I mean, if somebody else were to come at us, look out. Yeah, I much matter when people criticize you all than when they criticize me.

00:16:32
Speaker 5: Same.

00:16:33
Speaker 4: That's always been something from the beginning with me.

00:16:36
Speaker 6: Now, I didn't think that at first, but now I have come to know.

00:16:38
Speaker 4: Does you really not think that I liked you?

00:16:40
Speaker 7: Yeah? I mean I didn't like you the first day.

00:16:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, but no, I mean I was always I always found you entertaining. But sometimes it was because I mean you you have you have, you have a very high vision of yourself, and I like that. I find that kind of entertaining, and it used to be even more so. And there's like a slight bit, especially early on, a delusion that really entertained me and I liked it.

00:17:09
Speaker 6: Well, you're right about one thing.

00:17:10
Speaker 7: I've never been more locked in than I was for that hay beell toss on Friday.

00:17:13
Speaker 4: You really mean I was ready.

00:17:15
Speaker 3: And don't worry, Billy. He didn't like me in the first few years either.

00:17:19
Speaker 4: No, I definitely dislike you either in the first few years, but I quickly listen. I like all of you. Now. That's why, that's why there won't be a change one person writes Matt, analytics don't always figure in the coach's personality. Stoop said's Kiffin's aggressiveness on defense is also figured into his decision. Yeah, that may be true, but I'm just saying I feel better about the fact he's at least getting the information because ultimately he has to live with the decision, win or lose. And one more thing, when you make a decision based on analytics, that does mean it's gonna work, true, Okay, I mean fifty five forty five still means there's a forty five percent chance of losing. I mean, right now, like take the presidential race. I think it's like sixty forty Harris wins, but there's still a forty where Trump wins. And they only run the election one time, so when that one time, anything can happen. The same thing is true with the play. Ryan. It can be whatever it is, and one play it can be ninety five to five and then the five happens.

00:18:22
Speaker 5: That's part of It's good you said what he said on that podcast, because you know, after the game he was a little more like, well, we didn't think we gave him the ball. You know, they we'd be able to stop them, and we weren't go get it back. So it's good to hear they really there was a lot of thought process in that decision.

00:18:37
Speaker 4: Shannon, Pete Rose passed away, and I think you can't do a show in Kentucky and not talk about Pete Rose passing eighty three years old. I'm a Reds fan, but to be honest, was not a Reds fan when Rose played. But of course I knew who he was. I mean, I was watching when he got the obviously the hit, all the whole all of America. Was an iconic baseball player, but I think if you live in the Cincinnati, Kentucky area, he was kind of even more than that, the most famous Red of all time, you know, suspended for gambling for life. Not in the Hall of Fame. I've said many times, all those guys should be in the Hall of Fame, Rose, Barry Bonds, Roger How you gonna have a Hall of Fame that doesn't have Rose, Pete Rose, Berry, Bonds, and Roger Clemons, three of the best players they ever played. But with all of that said, you know, I had his life, troubled life in some ways, But Shanning a legend of baseball. I know you're a huge baseball guy, and I'm sure you were sad to hear.

00:19:37
Speaker 2: That nobody plays like Pete Rose played with that aggression. No, I just like running over catchers. I mean the way that he played the game was, in my mind, the way that I wish everybody played. But he was absolutely a legend and one of the most beloved baseball players, especially like you said, around this area, everybody loves Pete Rose.

00:19:57
Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, I think I've been in Vegas three times when he was in my hotel signing autographs. I'm not if you don't have Pete Rose's autograph, that's on you because he was. He sold it pretty much everywhere at some point. You, I know, Ryan as a huge baseball guy, even even as a Cardinals fan, you had to be sad about the past.

00:20:15
Speaker 5: He was the biggest superstar on the best team in the seventies, you know, the big red machine, and Pete Rose was the leader of it. And he did, like Shannon said, he kind of changed the way baseball was played with his you know, the head first slide in the Charlie hustle for crying out loud. So the only time I met him too, was in Las Vegas.

00:20:33
Speaker 4: It's funny.

00:20:33
Speaker 5: He said that at Caesars p was always in Las Vegas.

00:20:36
Speaker 4: We Drew Franklin and I were in Las Vegas for a blog conference thirteen years ago and we were just walking down the hallway and there was Pete Rose sitting by himself. Four people standing in line to get his autograph. It was like sixty dollars, and I thought to myself.

00:20:52
Speaker 5: Was sixty dollars? I paid it?

00:20:54
Speaker 4: Oh you did? Oh?

00:20:55
Speaker 5: Yes, I did.

00:20:55
Speaker 4: You paid the sixty dollars I did. What did you get him to sign?

00:20:58
Speaker 5: I got like two by tens, But he sat and talked to my buddy and I for like thirty minutes. We were the only people there.

00:21:04
Speaker 4: Was nobody else saying like he there were only a couple of people there.

00:21:07
Speaker 3: It's interesting you had to pay sixty dollars. I got it for free.

00:21:10
Speaker 4: Oh you got it for free.

00:21:11
Speaker 3: Shot multiple autographs and pictures and everything.

00:21:15
Speaker 4: He'd be at a couple of times when I was at CBS, they would send me to Cincinnati games. I think I did the Cincinnati Xavier game two years in a row. And he was always at that. Yeah, And it was he and Nick Lache would sit on the front road together and watch the game.

00:21:31
Speaker 5: He did kind of cuss me out a little bit for what because we're sitting there, were talking baseball. You know, my buddy and I were former baseball players. We're connecting with bonding. And then he says, what are you guys doing tonight? I'm thinking he wants to get together with us tonight.

00:21:43
Speaker 4: You didn't play baseball, you thought he You thought Pete Rose just wanted to go and hang out and talk.

00:21:48
Speaker 5: To baseball, talk baseball. We would get along so well. And I said, well, we first we had to go tickets to see David Spade. And he looked at us like we were Martians and said, David effing Spade, you're gonna go see David effing Spade? Of all the fing things to do in Las Vegas, Bette miller' Jomester, you're gonna see David effing Spade, and basically walked away.

00:22:08
Speaker 4: The conversation was over, Wow, what's wrong with David spaced story? So it made him mad gonna see David Spaced of going to seeing Bette Miller or Cher whoever else was on performance.

00:22:19
Speaker 5: He was so offended that we.

00:22:20
Speaker 4: Were gonna see David, and he was he just walked away from you.

00:22:24
Speaker 5: Thanks for coming, guys, gotta go now.

00:22:27
Speaker 4: He's a really strange encounter with him.

00:22:29
Speaker 5: That was the same trip to Vegas and we met Robin Leach and he's like, you know that I've heard.

00:22:34
Speaker 4: Please alright, Well that was a great tribute, uh to to Pete rose But it is all time hit leader Johnny Hustle.

00:22:44
Speaker 5: It is funny, same.

00:22:46
Speaker 4: Thing, Johnny, Johnny. It is funny to me that that Channon said he wishes everybody played like that. I think if somebody played like Pete rose today, the media would crucify him for being a dirty plot.

00:22:58
Speaker 2: I'm talking about guys that law down the first base line when they that's what I'm talking about.

00:23:03
Speaker 4: When he got old his fast was LOLLI gag. But TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ He'll make them pay. Now.

00:23:11
Speaker 2: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:15
Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:16
Speaker 4: So what is this song shited Pete rose Way.

00:23:19
Speaker 2: It's The Baseball Project Volume two. I thought maybe being a Reds fan, you would know this, but don't.

00:23:24
Speaker 4: Pete Roseway, Pete rose Way I've never heard they never heard of either. There's that big statue of him out front the Red Stadium. I walked by every game with him doing that slide. It's kind of a cool statue. When it's over. When the games are over, there's always these guys and they're playing buckets outside Yea and the like. They do it in like a rhythm, and I find myself after every game just dancing walking all my way out. They're there every single game and they they are the best bucket players I have ever seen. And they do like it's like three of them. They do a rhythm and it's uh and they're always standing right there on Pete Rose statue.

00:23:56
Speaker 5: I didn't know they did it every game. When we went up for the Cardinals game that year, when you gave me your tickets, they were out.

00:24:00
Speaker 4: There player there certainly every weekend game, but I think they're their most game wow, and they're always playing when when they get there eight eightfi I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. One person writes, Matt, there's no poll that has Harris winning sixty to forty. I don't know what you're talking about. That's not what sixty forty means sixty forty means like a sixty chance, you know what I mean. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So I'm saying if you ran the election five times, I think she'd win three. I think Trump would win two. But you only run them once, so you don't know what it's gonna be. Are you gonna watch There's a debate tonight, the Advance versus Walls, the vice presidential debate. You're gonna watch it?

00:24:37
Speaker 5: I probably will not watch any of it. I did hear though, that they're gonna leave the mics on. You know he turned the mics off when Trump and Harris did it.

00:24:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not gonna watch it either. But I think both of them will do well like they like Vance while is is. Remember before the Harris Trump everybody I said Harris will do well because she's good at the skill of debating. Vance is good at the skill of debating, so forget whatever you think about his policies, whether you like him or not, just the skill of debating, he's very good. And then Walls is pretty good. So I actually think they'll both do fine tonight, no matter whose side you're on, because Vance is good at arguing, which is something I feel like I'm good at. There's a skill to that, and so I think he'll do well with that.

00:25:23
Speaker 7: I'll probably turn it on for like twenty minutes or so. Just how ridiculous those debates are, I'd like ridiculous. I just think they just say crazier and crazier things every single time, not only the presidential candidates but the VP people. But I'd like to hear a Shannon the dude scorecard.

00:25:36
Speaker 2: I get that that's not happening because my baseball team actually plays.

00:25:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, so the playoffs. The playoffs are today, so we'll talk about the playoffs. That Braves Mets game, the first was unbelievable. So I watched the last three innings, Braves up three nothing, then the Mets go up six to three, then the Braves go up seven to six, then the Mets go up eight to seven. It was, Uh, that was one of the more exciting baseball games I've ever seen.

00:26:00
Speaker 5: It was it was that that's you know, that's why baseball is good in October, Man, you get those finishes like that, and it was kind of cool.

00:26:05
Speaker 4: And just like I said, whoever won the first one had no incentive to win the second one and the second Yeah, it should have been a gentleman's agreement. That's what they ought to have done.

00:26:16
Speaker 7: Well, they celebrated together after the second game. Did you think that was weird?

00:26:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's weird that they got they celebrated together.

00:26:23
Speaker 3: I didn't see the celebration together.

00:26:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, so that when after the Braves won, both teams kind of got on the field and sort of shook hands and celebrate. I didn't like that because the Braves and Mets are in theory rivals. So like if Kentucky and Louisville, like, let's say we play Louisville. Let's just say, for sake of argument, we played Louisville in the last game of the season in football, and something happens to where we both make it. I don't know how that would happen make the playoff, but let's just say there was a way that after it's over, we both made the playoff. We're not getting on the field and hugging each.

00:26:58
Speaker 5: Other, are we Absolutely not.

00:27:00
Speaker 4: I don't. I didn't like that getting on the field and hugging each other when it's out.

00:27:05
Speaker 2: I wouldn't have liked to have seen it, But I didn't see it, so I can't, I guess, get too mad about it. But yeah, probably a bad look, But you knew that was what was gonna happen. They were gonna split and both teams going to the play.

00:27:13
Speaker 4: But I knew they were both gonna do it. But they shouldn't have both. I don't like celebrating together if Kentucky and Louisville were to play. Let's say, let's say Kentucky and Louisville were both I don't know, undefeated, but then you know, we beat Louisville, but then Louisville someone loses, so that Louisville wins the ACC. I don't know, something like that. We should not both be on the field celebrating with each other after it's out.

00:27:34
Speaker 7: Yeah, back in my day, Ryan people actually hated their opponent. They didn't jersey swap, they didn't celebrate.

00:27:40
Speaker 4: I'm not saying that. I'm just saying I just think that, I just I don't know. The Braves and Mets are supposed to hate each other.

00:27:47
Speaker 5: Like their their rivals, and they're likely can meet in the playoffs.

00:27:52
Speaker 4: So all right, who's up first? Shit, Joe, Joe, go ahead, Joe, Yes, Thank you, Matt.

00:28:00
Speaker 8: Two insights first on Pete Rose, and they don't have an inslight on the UK game gets whole missed in the old days of Matt, before you start washing Pete Rose, if he saw that center fielder creeping in on him. Pete was just smacked that ball off to center field fence and he wasn't known to be a home run hitter. But Matt, he would hit this ball four hundred feet against that wall if he saw that center fielder creeping in. That's one of my favorite memories of Pete Rose when he played. If he saw that center field.

00:28:28
Speaker 4: Okay, saw the centerfielder. I got you. What else? Okay that on the UK game.

00:28:34
Speaker 8: I called you on Saturday morning, gave a prediction a tight end with scored a winning touchdown.

00:28:39
Speaker 4: I don't think that's you did say that. I don't think that was what you meant in that way.

00:28:43
Speaker 8: But I got you well, I said, well, I said Rodriguez, and and let's face it, Rodrigus probably should have been in there. We probably could have had Anderson in.

00:28:52
Speaker 5: There, or we probably could have had our third tight end Dingle in that game.

00:28:57
Speaker 4: Cavs.

00:28:58
Speaker 8: We've probably been to four tight end, but the inside of Vince Baryld to have him been at that game at that time, analytics.

00:29:04
Speaker 4: Or I think that was probably pure luck. I mean that was Look, sometimes you win because of luck. I appreciate the call, and that was that was a lucky excuse me, a lucky recovery, right. But credit to Catis for foreseeing it, for having the hands to catch it. But Ryan, I'm not gonna act like there was any grand plan on that. We were in the right place at the right time, and I'm fine with it because we had three fumbles against South Carolina and three against Georgia where we were in our hands and we didn't get them.

00:29:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, the ball had then on the ground was six times in our first two sec games in Kentucky. Got none of the six. The football gods, it was our turn. It was our turn for that ball to fall right in Cadis's.

00:29:42
Speaker 4: Last And I'm glad we got some folks here from Owensboro. I'm glad for Gavin Whimsy, Yeah, because that would have been a brutal if after all that happened, he fumbled that last thing. That would have been a brutal thing for him and that kid, would it would put him in a in a tough spot.

00:29:58
Speaker 5: I think if that happened, yeah, because he had he'd been doing really well. Just running the football got us down there, got us into the goal line.

00:30:04
Speaker 4: Except for the drive against Ohio where he was the main quarterback. On plays this season where he's come in and Brock is the main quarterback, you see what I'm saying where he's coming in for a play. I think there are I said twenty one. I think it's nineteen. There are nineteen straight plays where he's run the ball. Nineteen straight plays where he's run the ball. First of all, if you're the other team, how are you not just like selling out? But secondly, are they gonna throw it at some point? Is even gonna hand it off? He doesn't even hand it off, He keeps it himself.

00:30:41
Speaker 5: Well you may know this. Out of the nineteen, are they all positive yardage? I don't know if he's had any negative yardage plays.

00:30:48
Speaker 4: I don't think he's been sacked. I'm not sure. He may have been like stopped at the line of scribbage a couple times. But do you do you think they ever You know, remember that Virginia Tech game where Lynn Bowden ran it like twenty seven straight times and then on the biggest play through it do you think we're gonna get one of those?

00:31:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll definitely get one of those.

00:31:04
Speaker 7: That was actually the first caller to the Stoop Show last night was are you going to pass the ball with Gavin?

00:31:08
Speaker 6: Are there any sets for that?

00:31:10
Speaker 4: And Mark what did he say?

00:31:11
Speaker 7: He said yes, but he's also not going to reveal his game plan on the call in show, so I think we'll see something.

00:31:16
Speaker 4: I thought in the first half the Gavin plays were very useful. They all went for four or five six yards. In the second half they kind of got stopped a little easier, but uh, it actually was a good It actually worked in the first half pretty well.

00:31:30
Speaker 5: I think they're just keeping it in their back pocket for that Tennessee game. They put that final drive, we're going into score. That's when they pull it out.

00:31:35
Speaker 4: Well, I don't know about final drives after that fumble there that was, but yeah, I think that's when they'd love to use him as in the red zone. Yes, I think in the red zone is where they may feel that he is the most dangerous if he will not fumble the ball. Who's next, Mike Mike. Go ahead, Mike, hey man, how you do good?

00:31:53
Speaker 9: Hey listened? I had I called in y'all, y'all to talk about yesterday about how how much fun it is to uh to win on the road. I came back when we when we beat Auburn back back in the day, the day, the year boy, we won the national championship, and we didn't. After the game, of course, we had the flags fly and all that kind of thing. And we're driving through Alabama coming home, and I don't know if there was one, there must have been a dozen Alabama fans drive up next to us and give us the thumbs up because we well.

00:32:27
Speaker 4: I mean, I love that. I love rivalries. Whoa, there's a bird. Okay, there it goes. I love the rivalries where the other team hate you so much that they're rooting you on. I told the story about the Mississippi State kid. Look, when Louisville loses, I'll, you know, I'll donate to the especially if it's an upset, I'll you know. They they play s m U this weekend. Is that right? But listen, go s MU the that's right, I'm for it.

00:32:55
Speaker 9: There you go. Well, listen, y'all have a good day.

00:32:58
Speaker 4: Appreciate the call.

00:32:59
Speaker 5: I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with that of donating to the other school your rival loses to, you know, support the other school.

00:33:06
Speaker 4: Do you you know? I was looking at Louisville schedule. The only game they have left really is Clemson. Yeah, I mean the very I think there's a decent chance they come in here nine and two. Their schedule is so weak. I don't know if that's good enough to get them in the playoff, but I think if they're nine and two when they come in here, if we beat them, we could definitely knock them out of the playoff. And Billy, I think that would be a fun thing to do. The guy staring at me angrily here is apparently a Louisville fan, which explains everything.

00:33:37
Speaker 7: By the way, I was gonna say, the Buffalo Bills do that a lot. They donate to the charity of the winner.

00:33:42
Speaker 5: I love.

00:33:42
Speaker 4: That's one of the best things about their fans is that they donate to the charity when somebody beats a team that matters to them. I think that's a really cool thing. Prices are falling at Don Franklin's family of dealerships. Affordable doesn't need to be impossible. With Don Franklin, over five thousand vehicles, twenty six dealerships, all across the Bluegrass. There's one near you at Don Franklin Auto dot Com. Don Franklin is driven by family. You know. Sometimes I tell you news stories, yes, and then a few months later the world finds out about it.

00:34:14
Speaker 5: What was this one?

00:34:15
Speaker 4: We'll tell you right, okay, what a tease? Welcome back Tekey Sports Radio eight five nine two eight twenty two eighty seven, text Machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. Uh, Louisville also plays Miami, by the way, I said only Clemson. Apparently they played Miami too. For some reason. I keep getting their schedule confused as to who they played, but they played both. So if they win one of those games, I don't think they will. But if they were to win one of those games, I think they would come in, uh, you know, with a shot to make the playoff if they won. Here. Okay, so you may remember that when I told you all a story a few weeks ago, or actually a couple months ago, about the town in North Carolina that produces all the courts that's needed to make silicon for your phone. Yeah you remember that. Yeah, I said there was a town. You couldn't even get into it without security, credential and basically all of the silicon which is used on phones. Pretty much every electronic computer, every device you have uses silicon. And to make it, apparently you need a pure quartz that is only in like six places in the world, and one of them is in North Carolina. And you know, a couple of the others are in China which we don't have access to. There's like one in Belgium. But there's only like six places in the world. So this little town in North Carolina has one. And remember I told the story. I've read an argue about it. Well, I read yesterday two days ago. The flood has greatly impacted that town. They have yet to actually be able to get to the quartz, mind to see if it's impacted the courts, but you can't even get in out of the town. The railroad that goes to the town where they take all of this courts to send it out is destroyed. Wow, And so there is a real worry that it'll take It's like when we had the problems during COVID with the supply chains and all that, and you really didn't feel it till like a year later, and that was part of when inflation started to hire, et cetera. There were they're like, it'll be okay in the short term, but they're worried that in like three or four months, if this is not if access is not restored, that like phones, computers, we could have like a crisis of not being able to get the silicon we need it we need because of that flood. And they still have not even been able to get access to the town well enough to tell how bad it is. So all the businesses in the town apparently have been destroyed, which will also affect the ability of people to live there. And like literally a huge part of the American economy requires what this town produces. And it's like there are multiple stories today if you google, it's pine spruce worries amongst economists, like what is going to happen if we can't get to this town.

00:37:02
Speaker 5: That's scary, man, I mean, that's a major story coming down the pike pretty fast. It sounds like that it's gonna happen to it, especially if that main artery, that rail railway is wiped away. How else can they get it out.

00:37:12
Speaker 4: I mean, the human tragedy is offul There are still the governor of North Carolina stays there's still six hundred people missing. Now a lot of those remember in eastern Kentucky, those numbers were high and a lot of it was just people couldn't get in contact to say they were okay. So I don't think all six hundred of those are dead, but yeah, probably some percentage of them are. It's gonna end up being it. I think I saw one hundred and fifty already passed away. I mean, the human tragedy is unbelievable. The pictures and the videos awful, are awful, and like for towns like Ashville, you know that's in that place never gonna be the same. No, it's not.

00:37:48
Speaker 7: It's truly amazing that that small town has such a huge importance when it comes to the economy of this nation. And to go along with the dock workers, I guess going on strike, we're gonna be paying for more for good.

00:37:58
Speaker 4: No, I mean, I think it won't probably affect itself now, but if they it's people should watch because they expect to be able to get to the quartz mind today to see whether or not there has been damage to it. But the big issue is they're gonna that train. You know, it's the only way out because it's this place is way up deep in the mountains and the only way out, and they think that train at least that line has been destroyed leading into it.

00:38:24
Speaker 5: You have that main artery gone. Like you said, the workforce, those people they got, they're trying to put their lives back together. Let alone go back to work and working these minds again.

00:38:31
Speaker 4: It's just it's just awful. I mean those pictures, I mean it was. It was really bad in eastern Kentucky. But you know, in eastern Kentucky, it didn't hit a city the size of Ashville or Boone. I mean Boone's a pretty big city too, or you know, it's not city, but pretty big town. Just just an absolute tragedy there. Who's up next, Poe, Poe? How are you?

00:38:52
Speaker 10: Poet?

00:38:55
Speaker 4: I guess well, I help you feel better.

00:38:58
Speaker 10: Thank you, congratulations, buddy.

00:39:02
Speaker 5: You're welcome.

00:39:05
Speaker 10: I was entertaining. I had a comment on the analytics. I'm not a huge fan of analytics because I think the coach knows the personnel of the team. Bears than anybody in a computer especially.

00:39:19
Speaker 4: Well, let me ask you, when you say you're not a fan of analytics, are you a fan of making smart decisions based on rationality?

00:39:28
Speaker 10: Absolutely?

00:39:29
Speaker 4: Well, that's what analytics are. I mean, that's analytics. The same if I do this this many times, here's how many times it's likely to work, and you but.

00:39:39
Speaker 10: Don't consider your teams.

00:39:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, they do. Advance advanced analytics do. Advanced analytics will actually place the stats of your team and say, not just how would a generic team do it, how would your team do in this situation? Like now, they have models that control for everything, momentum of the game, times of situations.

00:40:06
Speaker 5: I don't know.

00:40:06
Speaker 4: About momentum per se, but a lot of people who believe in analytics would say momentum is kind of overrated anyway. But well, go ahead and finish your point. I'm sorry.

00:40:17
Speaker 10: Well, I'm just saying we I'm gonna just make it talk about some different about Brock. He and the line gonna give him a lot of credit. And the receivers missed a lot of hitches that game that were catchable walls that we could have that Brock was running his tail off, And I'd like to see him throw it away a little bit more.

00:40:37
Speaker 4: But yeah, Brock, Brock was Brock was unbelievable. He was Brock was unbelievable. Like he I think whatever questions people had about is this guy or guy to me Ryan, they got.

00:40:52
Speaker 5: Answered, finally got some answer. We couldn't really judge him after those first two games. Now we kind of see what he can do when he settles in, has a little time and is able to you know, pick sit back there and pick his receiver to go for if.

00:41:01
Speaker 4: You were at all worried, Billy, if he is you know, become the quarterback taking that drive down seventeen thirteen, going the length of the field and getting him in a position to win, uh that pass to Burry On Like, I don't know what else you can ask.

00:41:15
Speaker 6: I think he's improving over every single game.

00:41:17
Speaker 4: I agree.

00:41:17
Speaker 7: You got to remember that this is a guy that was going to be the starter at Georgia until the last week of training camp and they named Carson Beck the starter. So this is his first time getting a chance to get better in real action. So I've been very encouraging. That's why the Gavin Websit fumble would have been tragic. If they lost it played so great, go ahead, Poe finished your last point.

00:41:35
Speaker 10: Okay, Well he Barryon missed the third down conversion on good past he did.

00:41:41
Speaker 4: He did drop on, Yeah, he did drop on a little bitter idea. I appreciate the call. I mean that catch, but wasn't for the Alabama catch that night of that seventeen year old probably would have been the play of the day.

00:41:54
Speaker 5: That that was the highlight of the day was burry On until that Ryan Williams made that catch kid for Alabama.

00:41:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, but uh, you know, I still don't know how Brock's going to be the rest of the year, but I now feel confident him in a way that you know, I don't know if after week one, two three you really were sure to me. Now you know, uh, he's the guy. EF. I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We are here at ks bar Gril. Come on out have lunch with us if you would like. We'll take a break. Me right back, tuck you Sports Radio
