<v Speaker 2>I know that, and then we dive in and it's
<v Speaker 2>it's like when you go back to your high school
<v Speaker 2>reunion and that girl that you were like, yeah, she's
<v Speaker 2>kind of cute, kind of forgettable, but you know, and
<v Speaker 2>then you get to the high school reunion and you're like,
<v Speaker 2>oh my gosh, I'm in love with her. And that
<v Speaker 2>is what's happening with Shirley. You can't be serious. Is

<v Speaker 2>We want to do it because we want to do it,
<v Speaker 2>and that's why, right, Yeah, that's right. Christmas, we're out
<v Speaker 2>from Blood that day, Okay, So guys, we're back for
<v Speaker 2>part two of our comparison of these two movies. Two
<v Speaker 2>karate movies from eighty four and eighty five to amazing
<v Speaker 2>movies that are obviously both about the martial arts, but
<v Speaker 2>are very different from each other. Right, You've got one
<v Speaker 2>movie that you've got the novice student just meeting his
<v Speaker 2>mentor and his journey to reach you know, not mastery
<v Speaker 2>but competence. And on the other hand, you've got this
<v Speaker 2>movie where the student has met mastery, his his mentor
<v Speaker 2>is saying, you have no more need for me, and
<v Speaker 2>he still wants more, and he still wants more. And
<v Speaker 2>so it's it's a different setup, but two movies that
<v Speaker 2>still grab you by the heart and engage you for
<v Speaker 2>the whole show.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, So let's flip over to the cast of The
<v Speaker 3>Last Dragon.
<v Speaker 2>So right off the bat, let's talk about taimakaimak.
<v Speaker 1>Sometimes it is hard to live the way.
<v Speaker 2>Of the wis. We've got a couple of one name
<v Speaker 2>leads here. I know he starts karate at the age
<v Speaker 2>of six because his dad was friends with a guy
<v Speaker 2>who has a black belt. His father was Italian yep,
<v Speaker 2>his mother was black Kaimak LaRusso, so at age twelve,
<v Speaker 2>he sees a commercial starring Bruce Lee and he said
<v Speaker 2>he really liked his aura. I thought that was kind
<v Speaker 2>of cool. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Right, So he becomes he gets involved in karate taekwondo wrestling.
<v Speaker 3>So there's an audition for Barry Gordy's the Last Dragon. Huh,
<v Speaker 3>so listen to the guys who could have been in
<v Speaker 3>this role.
<v Speaker 2>Okay.
<v Speaker 3>So he comes in.
<v Speaker 2>He said he did a terrible audition. The only reason
<v Speaker 2>he auditioned was because there were guys in his karate
<v Speaker 2>tournament that we're talking about auditioning. He had no acting
<v Speaker 2>aspirations at all. No, he just he was just like,
<v Speaker 2>maybe I'll go do that. Here's what he was good
<v Speaker 2>at though. Yeah, he was good at karate.
<v Speaker 3>And he showed up. He thought it was like for
<v Speaker 3>like a karate exhibition. So he shows up in a
<v Speaker 3>gee and they're like, okay, read this scene, and he's like,
<v Speaker 3>I thought I was just going to do some karate movies.
<v Speaker 2>Would you like to see him with my shirt off? Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>So here's the thing that they did. Well Okay, Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>it's a kung fu movie, like those Bruce Lee movies.
<v Speaker 3>They get somebody who's really good at kung fu, and
<v Speaker 3>this guy was a phenom, like he was an excellent
<v Speaker 3>karate guy. Now listen, here are the people who also
<v Speaker 3>auditioned for the role of Bruce Leroy, Wesley Snipes.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean he'd have been thin enough seeing this
<v Speaker 2>movie with Wesley Snipes, Yeah, because what was a major
<v Speaker 2>league was what eighty eight, nine eighty nine. Yeah, so
<v Speaker 2>he was still pretty thin back then. I imagine three
<v Speaker 2>years earlier he's even thinner and younger obviously, so.
<v Speaker 3>He could have been great.
<v Speaker 2>And he he has martial arts, he's but there's an
<v Speaker 2>innocence that he doesn't have that Taimak has, right. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>so Mario van Peebles, sure, yeah, Laurence Fishburn, Yeah, Lawrence Fishbern.
<v Speaker 2>By the way, the story that I told you on
<v Speaker 2>Bruce Lee I got from a History Channel episode, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>narrated by Lawrence Fishburn Morpheus if you will. Yeah. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>How about Billy Blank's you remember him, yeah, Tybo Master
<v Speaker 3>from the nineties.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, kickboxing right yeah, wow, okay. And then also here's
<v Speaker 2>the one Denzel Washington. Ah. Yeah, well, I mean he'd
<v Speaker 2>worked with Mike Schultz before, so yeah, that makes sense.
<v Speaker 3>Based on all this talent. They go and hire a
<v Speaker 3>guy named Dan Silk as Bruce Lee Roy.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, tell me more. So here's what I know.
<v Speaker 3>Timax said that he came in and just crashed and
<v Speaker 3>burned in his audition. He knew how to do the
<v Speaker 3>karate moves. So he and his dad took a road
<v Speaker 3>trip afterwards.
<v Speaker 2>And his dad was It was his dad and another friend,
<v Speaker 2>and they were trying to cheer him up and he
<v Speaker 2>was just being a depressed teenager the whole way.
<v Speaker 3>He was nineteen by the way. Yeah, they take this
<v Speaker 3>trip and basically it encourages him to kind of find himself,
<v Speaker 3>find his confidence, and go back and ask for a
<v Speaker 3>second chance. So Dan Silk, who has been lost to
<v Speaker 3>the sands of time what had been hired to be
<v Speaker 3>Bruce Leroy Right, Well, after this little road trip, time
<v Speaker 3>Ax shows up, goes back to the office and begs
<v Speaker 3>for a second chance. And they really liked that kind
<v Speaker 3>of stick toitiveness from him, and so they fired Dan
<v Speaker 3>Silk and they hired time Ak.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if it's the same Dan Silk, but
<v Speaker 2>I just while you're telling me the story, I looked
<v Speaker 2>him up on IMDb. There's a Dan Silk that is
<v Speaker 2>an actor that has one acting credit from nineteen ninety
<v Speaker 2>nine in a movie called Stingers, and that is all. Wow,
<v Speaker 2>there you go, poor Dan Silk.
<v Speaker 3>You know, there's some interesting stories behind the scenes involving
<v Speaker 3>Time Act.
<v Speaker 2>They were going to do a sequel to this movie. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>He didn't make very much money on the original, and
<v Speaker 3>so when Barry Gordy came to him and said, hey,
<v Speaker 3>what do you think sequel, He's like, yeah, we're gonna
<v Speaker 3>have to rework my contract. And Barry Gordy was up
<v Speaker 3>set and said, screw this, you messed it up. We're
<v Speaker 3>not doing it.
<v Speaker 2>Forget you. Yeah, that's odd. I mean, still you pay
<v Speaker 2>the guy more. I mean he yeah, no, And he hasn't.
<v Speaker 2>He hasn't done a whole lot since then. I did
<v Speaker 2>see an interview with him that's just a couple of
<v Speaker 2>years old, but he had. He mentioned in there that
<v Speaker 2>lou Venosta had gotten the rights to the story back
<v Speaker 2>just recently and was working on a follow up, and
<v Speaker 2>he's you know, time Ag is like, if it happens,
<v Speaker 2>I'll be in it. I don't know what it's going
<v Speaker 2>to be about. I don't know what it is, but
<v Speaker 2>I will be in it. And he looks like an
<v Speaker 2>absolute stud right now. Yeah, he's still ripped and ready

<v Speaker 2>something that is completely different than this Last Dragon character
<v Speaker 2>that I played. And so what he ends up playing
<v Speaker 2>is a rappist in a different world.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, okay, so let's talk about the real star of
<v Speaker 3>The Last Dragon. I'm talking about Vanity.
<v Speaker 2>You're saying she's the star. I'm saying she is the star. No,
<v Speaker 2>she may be the she may be the eye candy,
<v Speaker 2>she is not the star.
<v Speaker 3>When you look at her, I mean she looks like
<v Speaker 3>a rock star.
<v Speaker 2>She's she is incredibly gorgeous.
<v Speaker 3>She has incredibly gorgeous.
<v Speaker 2>A lot of lip biting moments in this where she
<v Speaker 2>bites her lip and just makes you go all willied.
<v Speaker 3>You know, she makes my knees week.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, she gives you the shiit. Yes, but I would

<v Speaker 2>this movie out with tim Ak doing real karate, greased
<v Speaker 2>up and shining like a Roman god out He looks great,
<v Speaker 2>and then in slow motion his sinsey shoots an arrow
<v Speaker 2>and he karate chops it like there's no technology in
<v Speaker 2>nineteen eighty five to fake that.
<v Speaker 3>It's he really did it. He really did it. He
<v Speaker 3>give two hours.
<v Speaker 2>If you gave me one hundred hours, I would never
<v Speaker 2>get that done. Or yeah, in the rag right through
<v Speaker 2>my wrist. That's exactly right. So I was gonna say,
<v Speaker 2>I thought that you were going to say that the
<v Speaker 2>true star of this movie was Julius Carey aka show
<v Speaker 2>nuf Well. You can make a case for him as
<v Speaker 2>well aka the Showgun Harlow.
<v Speaker 3>This is the triangle of stars here right, Yeah. Time
<v Speaker 3>act does a great job in this movie. His acting
<v Speaker 3>is not great, but his karate is Vanity. They don't
<v Speaker 3>ask her to do a whole lot, but she looks
<v Speaker 3>wonderful and then shownaf is so much over the top.
<v Speaker 2>And so fun, it just makes it. It makes it
<v Speaker 2>really fun. So Julius Carey, he's six'.

<v Speaker 2>Knew karate to be the villain they, wanted but he
<v Speaker 2>and he didn't know Any but they just, said this
<v Speaker 2>guy is too freaking. Awesome so here's the here's the.
<v Speaker 2>Story because he's the real, actor right, Sure and So
<v Speaker 2>Ti mak has never acted in anything, before, right he
<v Speaker 2>plays it so perfectly because he plays it so, serious
<v Speaker 2>this absurd, thing the showgun To, harlem you know this
<v Speaker 2>who is? It Briuce, Leroy like he's so serious on
<v Speaker 2>this ridiculous part that it makes it so, funny and
<v Speaker 2>Ty mack couldn't quit, laughing, right he couldn't quit laughing
<v Speaker 2>at this. Guy So Julius, carey being the trained, actor is,
<v Speaker 2>LIKE i can't have this guy thinking this is. Funny
<v Speaker 2>it'll spoil the, scene ruin. It so he deliberately starts

<v Speaker 2>him a hard. Time and at First tai mak is
<v Speaker 2>thinking this is, funny and this guy's just being. Funny
<v Speaker 2>but after a while it's. Annoying and then at some
<v Speaker 2>point he jumps up and he's, Like i'm gonna whip your,

<v Speaker 2>off running out of the. Doors is that? Right, yeah
