WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:01.417 Welcome to our home. 00:00:01.417 --> 00:00:04.628 We're thrilled to have you with us as we continue our study of the Book of Mormon. 00:00:05.171 --> 00:00:11.385 We encourage you to study with us by getting your scriptures out in some way, whether it's on your phone or whether it's on paper. 00:00:12.137 --> 00:00:21.896 We hope that you continue your study, and that you feel even more confident as women, as you are able to have a bedrock understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and speak with God's power and authority. 00:00:22.062 --> 00:00:33.450 Today we're going to be studying three main topics ramifications of anger, the power of allowing the rising generation to be engaged, and finally, the power of parents and mentors. 00:00:33.908 --> 00:00:36.744 We're looking forward to a great study. 00:00:36.744 --> 00:00:49.131 Welcome to grounded, where women of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds gathered together with me, Barbara Morgan Gardner, and my guests as we strive to build a bedrock understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and become more like him. 00:00:49.798 --> 00:00:52.926 We are excited to have our friend with us, Bonnie H. 00:00:52.926 --> 00:00:54.970 Corden. Bonnie. Thank you. 00:00:54.970 --> 00:00:55.554 Thank you. 00:00:55.554 --> 00:00:58.557 It's just a delight to be with you in your home. 00:00:58.600 --> 00:00:59.225 Thank you. 00:00:59.225 --> 00:01:00.100 You know what, Bonnie? 00:01:00.100 --> 00:01:02.103 It is to me. It's important that we are in our home. 00:01:02.103 --> 00:01:04.563 I'm a professor. I like to get out and do things with people. 00:01:04.563 --> 00:01:05.939 And I love studying and things, but. 00:01:05.939 --> 00:01:10.028 But when it comes down to it, I have a very strong priority that we are in my home, right? 00:01:10.028 --> 00:01:15.200 And that we are we are women and that we are leaders and teachers in the family, in the community and throughout the world. 00:01:15.200 --> 00:01:17.076 So that's. The home. Right now. 00:01:17.076 --> 00:01:19.745 And there's nothing like studying the scriptures in your home. 00:01:19.745 --> 00:01:20.245 Yeah. 00:01:20.245 --> 00:01:25.126 You know, well, sometimes your home is your car and sometimes your home is wherever you have to run to. 00:01:25.126 --> 00:01:26.878 Yeah. But it's this is a delight. 00:01:26.878 --> 00:01:34.135 So, Bonnie, President Nelson has reminded us of our three primary identities as children of God, children of the covenant, and disciples of Christ. 00:01:35.052 --> 00:01:38.180 In addition to that, I know a few things about you that I'm going to share. 00:01:38.180 --> 00:01:41.141 And then maybe you could help us to get to know you a little bit better. 00:01:41.141 --> 00:01:49.483 So we know that you are or have been recently released as a general young woman, as president of the church, 2008 to 2023. 00:01:49.525 --> 00:01:50.150 Is that right? 00:01:50.150 --> 00:01:51.194 That's right. Yep. 00:01:51.194 --> 00:01:53.530 Got it. Spot on. Okay. Thank you. 00:01:53.530 --> 00:01:59.076 And then I also know that you are the president of SBU or Southern Virginia University. 00:01:59.536 --> 00:02:02.412 I would like to know just briefly how that came about. 00:02:02.412 --> 00:02:03.831 If you're able to share that with us. 00:02:03.831 --> 00:02:05.792 Isn't that crazy? I love it. 00:02:05.792 --> 00:02:06.584 I mean, no, no. 00:02:06.584 --> 00:02:09.169 I didn't mean how it came about. 00:02:09.169 --> 00:02:15.926 Well, you know, in August when I was released, I got a little email from one of the board members and they said, we're looking for a new president. 00:02:16.176 --> 00:02:27.604 And sitting on the Board of Education, I was always been intrigued at how the seven, all the different presidents of our city schools, are so completely different, but so united. 00:02:27.938 --> 00:02:30.275 And their schools were different. 00:02:27.938 --> 00:02:30.275 So it was just fascinating. 00:02:30.275 --> 00:02:31.276 So just curious. 00:02:31.276 --> 00:02:33.569 And I said, oh, I'm happy to talk about it. 00:02:33.569 --> 00:02:35.947 And I in my heart, I'm like, not interested. 00:02:35.947 --> 00:02:37.365 Yeah, but happy to talk. 00:02:37.365 --> 00:02:40.325 So I talked to him and then they invited me out to campus. 00:02:40.325 --> 00:02:43.413 And as we flew out, my husband said, we're not doing this, are we? 00:02:43.454 --> 00:02:49.627 And I'm like, oh heaven's sakes, no, no interest, but how the Lord does things. 00:02:49.627 --> 00:02:51.837 the prompting just kept coming. 00:02:51.837 --> 00:02:53.131 Just go. 00:02:53.131 --> 00:02:57.593 And I made a long list for the Lord and said, now, these are all the reasons why it's a bad idea. 00:02:57.593 --> 00:03:04.975 I just finished a kind of a whirlwind, and it was kind of nice to clean closets and get to know my grandkids. 00:03:05.018 --> 00:03:11.149 We bought a Nikon ski pass, so I was really excited to spend the whole winter skiing. 00:03:13.067 --> 00:03:14.318 And the Lord just said go. 00:03:14.318 --> 00:03:17.362 And so that's how or why I'm at Southern Virginia University. 00:03:17.614 --> 00:03:21.533 Isn't it amazing how the Lord's will is not always what we thought it would be? 00:03:21.533 --> 00:03:25.371 But then, you know, he makes his well known and we align our will and do it well. 00:03:25.371 --> 00:03:28.123 Sometimes the miracles that he has for you. Yeah. 00:03:28.123 --> 00:03:30.293 You don't even know you want. Yeah. 00:03:30.293 --> 00:03:35.048 And so when you say yes, all of a sudden some of those miracles unfold and you're like, oh my goodness. 00:03:35.340 --> 00:03:38.258 And I look back and I think, what would I have been doing? 00:03:38.258 --> 00:03:40.887 Yes, I maybe had met a lot of fun people on the ski hill. 00:03:40.887 --> 00:03:41.679 Yeah, I'm sure. 00:03:42.722 --> 00:03:48.144 But some of the people I've met and the young adults that have changed my life, I am grateful if I do. 00:03:48.686 --> 00:03:52.439 You know, if I did nothing else though, these seven months have been remarkable. 00:03:52.649 --> 00:03:54.776 So I just just say yes. 00:03:54.776 --> 00:03:57.778 When the Lord gives you that nudge, just say yes. 00:03:57.819 --> 00:03:58.695 I can't be more. 00:03:58.695 --> 00:04:02.074 And Bonnie, I appreciate you bring up those young adults we're going to be talking about youth today. 00:04:02.074 --> 00:04:04.117 Those 2000 Stripling Stripling warriors. 00:04:04.117 --> 00:04:06.120 So thank you for your service with them. 00:04:06.120 --> 00:04:09.122 And also recognizing that we have so much to learn from, from them. 00:04:09.248 --> 00:04:11.709 Oh, I mean, it blows my mind. Yes. 00:04:11.709 --> 00:04:14.002 So we'll get into that a little bit as well as we go along. 00:04:14.002 --> 00:04:15.337 Let's start with our first topic. 00:04:15.337 --> 00:04:17.089 So it's ramifications of anger. 00:04:17.089 --> 00:04:19.425 We know that there is a lot going on in these scriptures. 00:04:19.425 --> 00:04:21.761 We're talking the 2000 warriors. 00:04:21.761 --> 00:04:27.016 We're going to get their their letters going on between between Captain Moroni and Amran. 00:04:27.016 --> 00:04:29.894 And we're going to have these letters between captain MP Horan. 00:04:29.894 --> 00:04:32.771 And there is a lot of energy going on. 00:04:32.771 --> 00:04:33.439 Right. 00:04:33.439 --> 00:04:37.360 So righteous indignation in full force. Yes. 00:04:37.360 --> 00:04:39.194 Yeah. So let's let's get in here. 00:04:39.194 --> 00:04:48.161 Well, you know, just to jump in, I think it's fascinating that the process that these letters have back and forth. Yep. 00:04:48.620 --> 00:04:52.040 And I love I have to first say I love Captain Moroni. 00:04:52.333 --> 00:04:55.336 He is one of my favorite people because he is bold. 00:04:55.461 --> 00:05:00.466 Yeah, he loves the Lord and he tries to do everything he can without shedding blood. 00:05:00.466 --> 00:05:07.180 I mean, I talk about a captain that is unusual for anyone's time, so I love all of that. 00:05:07.889 --> 00:05:15.023 But there is a lot of yeah, we have the thing that's interesting for me, when I was reading this, I thought, he has a cons. 00:05:15.605 --> 00:05:17.649 And it's a very just cause. 00:05:17.649 --> 00:05:19.276 Absolutely. 00:05:19.276 --> 00:05:23.656 But I wanted to show it because you talked about about Captain Moroni and shedding blood. 00:05:23.656 --> 00:05:27.451 I love although this is not in a reading for today, it's for last week. 00:05:27.451 --> 00:05:39.504 But in chapter 48, verse 21, it says, but as I have said in the latter end of the 19th year, yay! Notwithstanding their peace amongst themselves, they were compelled reluctantly to contend with their brethren. 00:05:39.504 --> 00:05:41.173 I think this is what Captain Moroni is. 00:05:41.173 --> 00:05:44.302 He does not want to be in battle like we've been told over and over again. 00:05:44.302 --> 00:05:49.223 He does not want to shed blood, but he is compelled, reluctantly to do the right thing. 00:05:49.223 --> 00:05:55.396 And because he is a disciple of Jesus Christ, he is going to do it, even though that's not his personal desire. 00:05:55.396 --> 00:05:58.315 But he needs. To do so. Yeah, as well. 00:05:58.315 --> 00:06:04.572 And so with all of that, and that's his desire as he's writing these letters, I think it's interesting. 00:06:04.572 --> 00:06:08.785 And I don't even want to go in and maybe, tag all of them. 00:06:09.242 --> 00:06:17.125 But as I was reading the letters, thinking about what our prophet said about peacemaking, yeah, this is an interesting thing. 00:06:17.502 --> 00:06:24.175 In spring of 2023, President Nelson gave that talk that many of us remember peacemakers needed. 00:06:24.341 --> 00:06:30.514 And the thing that he said he said, brothers and sisters, we can literally change the world. 00:06:30.514 --> 00:06:33.850 And I've always loved the fact that, okay, how are we going to change the world? 00:06:34.394 --> 00:06:39.857 And he goes on, because President Nelson does one person and one interaction at a time. 00:06:40.149 --> 00:06:41.692 And then he asks the question, how? 00:06:42.735 --> 00:06:45.153 By modeling how to manage. 00:06:45.153 --> 00:06:45.321 Okay. 00:06:45.321 --> 00:06:52.245 There's an interest in how do we manage honest differences of opinion with mutual respect and dignified dialog. 00:06:52.870 --> 00:06:54.579 Now, I don't know. 00:06:54.579 --> 00:07:03.713 I mean, I guess if I was a captain of an army and there's huge bloodshed, I don't know if I could manage honest differences. 00:07:03.713 --> 00:07:07.300 Yeah, but that's what the prophet's asking us to do in this case. 00:07:07.552 --> 00:07:19.521 So I started reading this through Managing Honest Differences, and I thought it was fascinating on some of the things that, Moroni was writing in his epistle. 00:07:19.689 --> 00:07:25.528 So as we think about peacemaking, what is it that shuts down a conversation or just built a stronger wall? 00:07:25.944 --> 00:07:27.697 And he probably wanted a stronger wall. 00:07:27.697 --> 00:07:29.531 So maybe that was really posture. 00:07:29.531 --> 00:07:35.204 but in this, if you think in, I'll just pull one of them up in 10 or 11, he says. 00:07:35.204 --> 00:07:40.834 But behold, it supposes, be that I talk to you concerning these things in vain. 00:07:41.084 --> 00:07:45.923 In other words, you're not going to listen to it anyway, or it supposes me that thou art a child of hell. 00:07:45.923 --> 00:07:49.384 Therefore I will close my epistle by telling you I will not exchange prisoners. 00:07:49.634 --> 00:07:51.220 And then he goes on to tell. 00:07:51.220 --> 00:08:01.646 But what I would love you to do is look through this and find is there words here where he could have omitted or changed it and help the dialog? 00:08:02.398 --> 00:08:03.190 Right. 00:08:03.190 --> 00:08:21.000 You know, so when we think of the prophet's charge to try to be a peacemaker, even though we have differences, and so it just depends on how and, how you put things, sometimes can make people angrier, even though you have a righteous cause. 00:08:21.584 --> 00:08:26.338 What does this look like to soften hearts? 00:08:26.338 --> 00:08:26.797 I don't know. 00:08:26.797 --> 00:08:32.470 And teaching Elder Holland has a great talk to religious educators where he says it's often not what we say, but how we say it. 00:08:32.470 --> 00:08:33.261 That makes a difference. 00:08:33.261 --> 00:08:36.765 And that's what causes people not that it's our fault that people are offended. 00:08:36.765 --> 00:08:38.475 And we can talk about that when we get to parent. 00:08:38.475 --> 00:08:42.938 But the importance of making sure that we are actually very careful in how we say things. 00:08:42.938 --> 00:08:51.239 You can say one thing that is true and cause and be an instrument, I guess, in creating frustration and anger. 00:08:51.239 --> 00:08:55.408 Or you can say the exact same thing with kindness and and open the doors. 00:08:55.743 --> 00:08:57.035 Right? The truth is the truth. 00:08:57.035 --> 00:08:59.413 President Nelson is such an incredible example of that. 00:08:59.413 --> 00:09:00.748 We should state truth. 00:09:00.748 --> 00:09:04.835 Yeah, but we should never attack another person. 00:09:04.835 --> 00:09:06.044 Even with the truth. 00:09:06.044 --> 00:09:12.384 You can state what the truth is, but then being cynical and damaging. 00:09:12.384 --> 00:09:15.011 And sometimes that closes all the conversation. 00:09:15.011 --> 00:09:15.596 Absolutely. 00:09:15.596 --> 00:09:19.517 And we don't see the body language going on here in this, in this chapter 54. 00:09:19.808 --> 00:09:21.184 But we can guess the body language. 00:09:21.184 --> 00:09:24.105 We can guess that the, the way it's been written. Right. 00:09:24.105 --> 00:09:33.029 And you can guess, I mean, there have been times when I and you know, this sometimes just practical, do not even push sand until you've had a chance 24 hours. 00:09:33.029 --> 00:09:33.364 Right. 00:09:33.364 --> 00:09:38.827 Or or if you are up really late and you feel like you're to make a phone call, maybe you shouldn't write. 00:09:38.827 --> 00:09:40.538 There's a there's a reality of being impetuous. 00:09:40.538 --> 00:09:43.749 Maybe you should, but just make sure that you've checked yourself, right? 00:09:43.749 --> 00:09:45.875 Yeah, pause for just a minute. 00:09:43.749 --> 00:09:45.875 I love that. 00:09:45.875 --> 00:09:52.674 And so let's go into pig horn because horn nuts and, And Moroni, our dear friends. 00:09:52.924 --> 00:09:55.094 Yeah. And Bonnie, before we jump, maybe jump there. 00:09:55.094 --> 00:09:56.470 I think you were talking about this anger. 00:09:56.470 --> 00:09:58.139 I think this is critical. 00:09:58.139 --> 00:10:04.394 We are told here as Moroni is writing, he says, behold, I am in my anger and also my people. 00:10:04.394 --> 00:10:07.355 You have sought to murder us and we have only sought to defend ourselves. 00:10:07.731 --> 00:10:09.817 And then in verse 15, it came to pass, and I am wrong. 00:10:09.817 --> 00:10:12.193 When he had received this epistle was angry. 00:10:12.193 --> 00:10:15.155 So we have these two men that are just. 00:10:15.489 --> 00:10:17.115 It is an anger, anger, anger. 00:10:17.115 --> 00:10:24.914 They're trying to resolve some problems, but it is extremely difficult to have the spirit confirm and guide in truth, with an angry person. 00:10:25.249 --> 00:10:29.794 It's, you know, elder Elder Scott talks about, eating the grape. 00:10:29.794 --> 00:10:30.211 Right? 00:10:30.211 --> 00:10:36.259 And then he talks about things that will get in the way of the sweet spirit of the great and kind of compares the grape to the spirit. 00:10:36.552 --> 00:10:42.557 And the interesting thing there, I think, is when he says emotions can be in the way, can get in the way of the spirit. 00:10:42.557 --> 00:10:51.524 And I have thought often some of those emotions that we could have, it could be the emotion associated with jealousy, or it could be the emotion in this case of anger or anger can really drive away that spirit. 00:10:51.524 --> 00:10:55.446 And it is hard to be able to listen to the Lord if we are having a battle of anger. 00:10:55.446 --> 00:11:01.785 Yeah, and it's interesting why the prophet talks about being a peacemaker in these times. 00:11:01.785 --> 00:11:02.702 Yeah. 00:11:02.702 --> 00:11:06.039 You know, because we are in battles all the time with. 00:11:06.248 --> 00:11:07.875 And it has a changed. 00:11:07.875 --> 00:11:17.634 But you, you realize that there is such a power that comes when we can learn the art of peacemaking, and it is an art we are not born being peacemakers. Yeah. 00:11:17.634 --> 00:11:22.932 So when he says that, it's like, what resources do we have and how do we practice being a peacemaker? 00:11:23.139 --> 00:11:24.057 Yeah. 00:11:24.057 --> 00:11:32.566 Thank you, Bonnie, for saying that too, because I think for some of us, like the natural man comes out so easily or the natural woman comes out so easily and it is learned. 00:11:32.566 --> 00:11:33.900 It is something that we can practice. 00:11:33.900 --> 00:11:35.277 It's a skill that we can work on. 00:11:35.277 --> 00:11:37.779 Bonnie, as we're going through this, we're seeing this now with Captain Brown. 00:11:37.779 --> 00:11:40.490 I mean, let's. Look at. Parent. 00:11:37.779 --> 00:11:40.490 Yeah. Can we because we're friend. 00:11:40.490 --> 00:11:41.658 They're friends. They are friends. 00:11:41.658 --> 00:11:43.744 And I actually want to introduce parent in this way. 00:11:43.744 --> 00:11:46.455 Chapter 50 again this is last week. 00:11:46.455 --> 00:11:49.166 But I just sometimes we skip over this. 00:11:49.166 --> 00:11:50.960 But I just love this introduction to parent. 00:11:50.960 --> 00:11:53.044 So it's verses verse 39 of chapter 50. 00:11:53.044 --> 00:11:58.884 It says behold, it came to pass at the son of the fire was appointed to fill the judgment seat in the stead of his father. 00:11:59.259 --> 00:11:59.552 Yeah. 00:11:59.552 --> 00:12:07.308 He was appointed the chief judge and governor over the people with an oath and sacred ordinance to judge righteously and to keep the peace. 00:12:07.308 --> 00:12:09.979 I think that's very interesting that he took this oath to keep the. 00:12:09.979 --> 00:12:12.940 Peace and judge. Yeah. And judge how. 00:12:12.940 --> 00:12:14.607 Righteously right is that, judge? 00:12:14.607 --> 00:12:15.567 Righteous. Yeah. 00:12:15.567 --> 00:12:17.528 So, you know, has Noah's heart. 00:12:17.528 --> 00:12:19.572 Yes. Great point, Bonnie. 00:12:19.572 --> 00:12:25.076 And the freedom of the people and to grant unto them their sacred privileges to worship the Lord their God. Yeah. 00:12:25.076 --> 00:12:31.125 To support and maintain the cause of God all his days and to bring the wicked to justice according to their crime. 00:12:31.125 --> 00:12:33.461 Now, behold, his name was parent. 00:12:33.461 --> 00:12:35.129 That. I think that's so interesting. 00:12:35.129 --> 00:12:36.922 He's he's this righteous covenant leader. 00:12:36.922 --> 00:12:38.173 He's made an oath with the Lord. 00:12:38.173 --> 00:12:40.634 And then what's so amazing to me? 00:12:40.634 --> 00:12:42.344 Body is that he keeps it. 00:12:43.303 --> 00:12:44.263 He's put in a position. 00:12:44.263 --> 00:12:46.014 Where he could just say, you know what? 00:12:46.014 --> 00:12:47.182 I'm not going to be a peacemaker. 00:12:47.182 --> 00:12:49.559 I'm not going to have peace here. 00:12:47.182 --> 00:12:49.559 I'm tired of it. 00:12:49.559 --> 00:12:50.561 This war is crazy. 00:12:50.561 --> 00:12:52.520 There are people fighting over here that people are fighting over here. 00:12:52.520 --> 00:12:53.855 And you know what, Ronnie? 00:12:53.855 --> 00:12:56.274 You know he gets the. Letter, right? 00:12:56.274 --> 00:12:58.652 So how would you feel with this letter? 00:12:58.652 --> 00:13:09.038 Oh, I, I would hope that I could do something as parent and be so kind, but I am concerned with my own personal reality that I would say I. 00:13:09.038 --> 00:13:09.788 Want to be a people. 00:13:09.788 --> 00:13:15.586 I think I may respond in a way that that that Moroni did and call him a child of hell or something. 00:13:15.586 --> 00:13:20.758 I hate to say that, Bonnie, but I think that may actually come out of my mouth, or at least might be in my mind, like really moral that if. 00:13:20.758 --> 00:13:23.469 I got this letter, I wonder how I would react. 00:13:23.469 --> 00:13:25.596 And I think I would love to be a parent. 00:13:25.596 --> 00:13:31.936 Yeah, I hope and pray that I will be able to do as you said, learn the skills of a parent. 00:13:29.265 --> 00:13:31.936 Yeah. 00:13:31.936 --> 00:13:34.605 So let's go to it. 00:13:31.936 --> 00:13:34.605 So we have this this letter, right? 00:13:34.605 --> 00:13:42.822 And we have Moroni 59 is the beginning, where Moroni is first asking Peh Horn for strength for his armies because they need this food, they need this care. 00:13:42.822 --> 00:13:46.450 And he's, he's he's accusing him of being indifferent. 00:13:46.866 --> 00:13:48.451 And in verse 13, back to the anger. 00:13:48.451 --> 00:13:53.791 It says, it came to pass that Moroni was angry with the government because of their indifference concerning the freedom of their country. 00:13:53.791 --> 00:13:55.750 And then he's accusing. 00:13:55.750 --> 00:13:57.418 So he's announcing here. 00:13:57.418 --> 00:14:04.717 Yeah, because he doesn't know it's an assumption, because he's seen no support, no help, which is frustrating. 00:14:04.717 --> 00:14:05.260 Absolutely. 00:14:05.260 --> 00:14:09.014 But instead of saying that total facts, then we throw in the supposing. 00:14:09.472 --> 00:14:10.682 And that becomes a problem. 00:14:10.682 --> 00:14:12.183 That's a huge problem. 00:14:12.183 --> 00:14:16.105 That's not a a peacemaker, typically a peacemaker thing to do. 00:14:16.145 --> 00:14:18.774 This is an easy thing to do, which I suppose a lot. 00:14:18.774 --> 00:14:20.650 Yes, we have in chapter 60. 00:14:20.650 --> 00:14:24.947 first of all, he says, I dropped mine a pistol to pay horn, and then he kind of tells him who he is. 00:14:24.947 --> 00:14:26.197 So he puts pay horn pay here. 00:14:26.197 --> 00:14:29.201 And this is really your responsibility. 00:14:26.197 --> 00:14:29.201 So he's laid it on him. 00:14:29.201 --> 00:14:36.250 and then we see and in verse seven, can you think to sit upon your throne in a state of thoughtless stupor? 00:14:36.250 --> 00:14:38.711 I mean, oh, he is no God. 00:14:38.711 --> 00:14:40.796 No. Stop and think about what he says. 00:14:40.796 --> 00:14:42.630 Can you sit upon your throne now? 00:14:42.630 --> 00:14:44.383 He's a chief judge. Yep. 00:14:44.383 --> 00:14:47.385 So what do where did chief judges sit? 00:14:47.886 --> 00:14:48.971 They don't sit on thrones. 00:14:48.971 --> 00:14:50.681 That's what a king does, right? 00:14:48.971 --> 00:14:50.681 That's a good point. 00:14:50.681 --> 00:14:52.182 So he sits on that. 00:14:52.182 --> 00:14:53.767 They call it the judgment seat. 00:14:53.767 --> 00:14:56.227 That's where you know, when you be normally. 00:14:56.227 --> 00:15:00.316 So here's a jab as saying, you know, here you are thinking you're the king. 00:15:01.774 --> 00:15:02.650 Reality. 00:15:02.650 --> 00:15:05.195 He doesn't even use the appropriate judgment seat. 00:15:05.195 --> 00:15:06.614 He says, what are you thinking? 00:15:06.614 --> 00:15:08.448 You're sitting on a throne. 00:15:08.448 --> 00:15:09.158 Kind of mockery. 00:15:09.158 --> 00:15:10.618 There. It's just a lot of mockery. 00:15:10.618 --> 00:15:12.285 Yeah, just in 6 to 8. 00:15:12.285 --> 00:15:16.414 And that he says, let's see, there is exceeding great neglect. 00:15:16.414 --> 00:15:18.292 Now, that's a truth. 00:15:18.292 --> 00:15:19.000 That's a truth. 00:15:19.000 --> 00:15:22.837 So if he would have stopped there, he would have said, there is a great neglect. Yes. 00:15:22.837 --> 00:15:24.590 And that's been true. 00:15:24.590 --> 00:15:27.592 Every desire to know the cause of your thoughtless state. 00:15:28.552 --> 00:15:36.434 Well, actually, I have probably been thinking about him and praying for him and anxious about him and keeping him up at night. 00:15:37.144 --> 00:15:46.736 So it hasn't really been a thoughtless state, but he's just projecting that anger, and I'm sure he's reading this when you have no idea the sleepless nights over you. 00:15:47.321 --> 00:15:47.988 Absolutely. 00:15:47.988 --> 00:15:54.995 That's another thing that I was again, just taught by one who was helping us as a family with all of us children. 00:15:55.120 --> 00:15:55.537 Yeah. 00:15:55.537 --> 00:15:58.414 It's something that my father would often say is in stating a phrase. 00:15:58.414 --> 00:16:00.833 It's I feel this way. 00:16:00.833 --> 00:16:01.460 Is so. Good. 00:16:01.460 --> 00:16:02.919 I feel this way. 00:16:02.919 --> 00:16:06.090 Therefore, because. Right, I feel this way. 00:16:06.090 --> 00:16:11.803 And what he's doing here, instead of just saying, I feel this way, saying you're doing it's accusation is just so strong right there. 00:16:11.803 --> 00:16:12.971 Exactly. 00:16:12.971 --> 00:16:15.765 So it just is he just angry? 00:16:15.765 --> 00:16:16.057 Yeah. 00:16:16.057 --> 00:16:19.061 Now with he has the righteous indignation. 00:16:19.602 --> 00:16:25.859 But what happens is he puts a lot of personal jabs in there that I think really pulled down. 00:16:26.067 --> 00:16:35.660 this great man that is has his own child challenges and trials that he's dealing with, but he Moroni has no idea. 00:16:35.660 --> 00:16:37.955 There's, there's there are a few good things that he didn't hear there. 00:16:37.955 --> 00:16:38.663 Actually there are many. 00:16:38.663 --> 00:16:43.210 But I do love verse 36, Bonnie, where he says, behold, I am Moroni, your chief captain. 00:16:43.210 --> 00:16:48.131 And now we're seeing the heart of Moroni here I seek not for power, but to pull it down. 00:16:48.131 --> 00:16:53.595 I seek not for honor of the world, but for the glory of God and the freedom and the welfare of my country. 00:16:53.595 --> 00:16:55.346 And thus I close my epistle. 00:16:55.346 --> 00:16:58.350 This is the captain Moroni. Yeah. 00:16:58.392 --> 00:16:59.643 Yeah it is. 00:16:59.643 --> 00:17:02.395 Okay. So parent. Okay. 00:17:02.395 --> 00:17:12.780 I love parent because I think really, if I would have gotten an A like this, I would have been just like, you have no idea what's going on and then just laid into it. 00:17:13.781 --> 00:17:16.535 But what does pay for and do. 00:17:16.535 --> 00:17:27.336 I love his response right in verse two he says, I pay Horan, who am the chief governor of this land, do send these words unto Moroni, the chief captain over the army. 00:17:27.336 --> 00:17:29.506 He just this he is going to speak truth. 00:17:29.506 --> 00:17:32.468 You're right Moroni, I am this and you are this. 00:17:32.925 --> 00:17:36.262 Behold, I say unto him, I, I do not joy in your great afflictions. 00:17:36.262 --> 00:17:38.891 Ye it grieves my soul. 00:17:38.891 --> 00:17:41.434 And now all of a sudden you can just see Moroni. 00:17:41.434 --> 00:17:52.362 I mean, if I were Moroni now on the other side, I think if I got a letter like that, I would just say in my heart, I think, okay, first of all, thank goodness he's on my team. 00:17:52.362 --> 00:17:53.196 He is okay. 00:17:53.196 --> 00:17:54.781 He hasn't broken his covenants. 00:17:54.781 --> 00:17:56.282 We are friends. 00:17:56.282 --> 00:17:58.326 He is. He is not on that throne. 00:17:58.326 --> 00:18:01.163 He is actually the judgment seat. 00:17:58.326 --> 00:18:01.163 And there's something that's going on. 00:18:01.163 --> 00:18:06.919 So you can just immediately parent just defuzes the whole situation. 00:18:06.919 --> 00:18:09.922 I am suffering with you, Moroni. So you started out with identity. 00:19:37.509 --> 00:19:38.134 Yeah. 00:19:38.134 --> 00:19:43.807 As a disciple and, you know, as a child of God, as a disciple of Christ and, and a cabinet maker. 00:19:43.807 --> 00:19:44.682 And you know what? 00:19:44.682 --> 00:19:47.352 This is how he could do this is because he didn't forget. 00:19:47.352 --> 00:19:50.355 He didn't within anger, forget who he was. 00:19:50.439 --> 00:20:01.782 And I think that's helpful, at least as a young mom with young kids, I remember thinking, I had to get to my knees a lot before or before I started saying something to my little ones. 00:20:01.825 --> 00:20:02.784 Thank you Bonnie. 00:20:02.784 --> 00:20:06.704 We just had a great discussion on the ramifications of anger and then also peacemaking. 00:20:06.704 --> 00:20:10.334 So let's jump into our second topic, which I know you're very passionate about. 00:20:10.334 --> 00:20:12.126 I am so passionate about this. 00:20:12.126 --> 00:20:15.463 Okay, so it's the power of allowing the rising generation to be engaged. 00:20:15.631 --> 00:20:18.008 Yeah. So so Bonnie, we have a lot going on here. 00:20:18.008 --> 00:20:19.425 2000 stripling warriors. 00:20:19.425 --> 00:20:21.345 This is youth of the noble birth. Right. 00:20:21.345 --> 00:20:22.762 Let's okay. 00:20:22.762 --> 00:20:28.852 So when I'm going to go to the quote have President Nelson please. 00:20:28.852 --> 00:20:33.941 When and every prophet has told every generation that they are the royal generation. 00:20:33.941 --> 00:20:36.692 They're the noble ones. 00:20:33.941 --> 00:20:36.692 And it is true for our season. 00:20:36.692 --> 00:20:39.363 So he says it again to the the rising generation. 00:20:39.363 --> 00:20:44.992 He says, my beloved younger brothers and sisters, you're among the best the Lord has ever sent to this world. 00:20:45.786 --> 00:20:51.666 You have the capacity to be smarter and wiser and have more impact on the world than any previous generation. 00:20:52.250 --> 00:21:00.759 Now, I think that's an important thing to realize that if they have the capacity to do all of that, what do we need to do to increase their capacity? 00:21:01.175 --> 00:21:15.523 And we learn tons about the stripling warriors here, about how to have trust, insights and help them with their capacity, because it is done so well in this space. 00:21:15.731 --> 00:21:22.154 Now, I love alma 53, in this when they first kind of bring us up again and it says it. 00:21:22.196 --> 00:21:34.209 Talking of the 2000 young men in 18, they entered into this covenant, and in 19 it says, and now, behold, as they never had hitherto been a disadvantage. 00:21:34.667 --> 00:21:41.842 Yeah, they become now at this period of time, also a great support. 00:21:41.967 --> 00:21:46.762 Now you think of every bishop, every young women's leader, every home. 00:21:47.096 --> 00:21:49.807 Would you not want a great support in your home? 00:21:49.807 --> 00:21:50.558 Absolutely. 00:21:50.558 --> 00:21:54.395 And and so this is what those young men became. 00:21:54.645 --> 00:21:57.273 And they were the rising generation. 00:21:57.273 --> 00:22:07.116 And this time, if we engage these young people and allow them to be part of co-creating what we're doing, what happens is they become a great support. 00:22:07.116 --> 00:22:09.036 They've never been a disadvantage to us. 00:22:09.036 --> 00:22:13.664 Kids aren't a unit, but could they become now a great support? 00:22:14.249 --> 00:22:17.001 And so, you know, we love their story. 00:22:17.001 --> 00:22:19.086 I love these verses and I could not agree more. 00:22:19.086 --> 00:22:26.928 verse 20 and they were all young men and they were exceedingly valiant for courage and also for strength and activity. 00:22:26.928 --> 00:22:28.846 But behold, this was not all. 00:22:28.846 --> 00:22:32.726 They were men who were true at all times, and whatsoever things they were interested. 00:22:32.726 --> 00:22:39.941 I actually really love how it in the first part it is these are young men, and now these are men. 00:22:39.941 --> 00:22:42.486 These are, these are it doesn't matter their age, they are men. 00:22:42.486 --> 00:22:52.371 The word here yeah I love is they here in 20 where you said to at all times in whatsoever thing they were interested. 00:22:52.371 --> 00:22:52.953 Yeah. 00:22:52.953 --> 00:22:57.334 And so many times we don't entrust so good and so engaging. 00:22:57.334 --> 00:23:00.336 The rising generation means you've got to entrust them. 00:23:00.545 --> 00:23:07.259 The reason why they were so effective was because they were not afraid to allow these young men to go to battle. 00:23:08.010 --> 00:23:13.724 It wasn't that they were just like, oh, honey, I mean, you think of David and Goliath. 00:23:11.056 --> 00:23:13.724 Yeah. 00:23:13.724 --> 00:23:20.816 David walks into a weary camp and they're all like, And he's like, is there not a cause? 00:23:20.816 --> 00:23:24.277 And you think these young people, they have a they want a cause. 00:23:24.693 --> 00:23:27.114 They want to be part of the cause of Christ. 00:23:27.114 --> 00:23:30.075 But sometimes we don't entrust them to do it. 00:23:30.075 --> 00:23:34.871 And so we tell them, you know, someday you're going to be the future leaders. 00:23:35.454 --> 00:23:37.499 Yeah. And, you know, I tell. Them you are. 00:23:37.499 --> 00:23:37.874 Yeah. 00:23:37.874 --> 00:23:40.794 No, actually, I tell them you are not the future leaders of the church. 00:23:40.794 --> 00:23:42.796 You are the leaders. You are the leaders. 00:23:42.796 --> 00:23:44.213 And you will continue to be a leader. 00:23:44.213 --> 00:23:49.803 Yeah, but do our actions interest? 00:23:49.803 --> 00:23:50.554 It's a question. 00:23:50.554 --> 00:23:52.763 You know, I love that in teaching. 00:23:52.763 --> 00:23:53.640 I love that and leading. 00:23:53.640 --> 00:23:57.519 I love that in parenting we, you know, we teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves. 00:23:57.519 --> 00:23:59.229 It's important that we teach them the correct principles. 00:23:59.229 --> 00:24:08.654 But there is a time, and I honestly think it's younger than many people assume, that we really can let them govern themselves and entrust them to govern and help govern each other. 00:24:08.654 --> 00:24:12.992 And you see this happen so beautifully in these in these chapters. 00:24:13.117 --> 00:24:13.868 Absolutely. 00:24:13.868 --> 00:24:18.038 I love that we're setting we have this epistle that Helaman said he's describing what happened. 00:24:18.038 --> 00:24:19.875 I love chapter 56, verse 16. 00:24:19.875 --> 00:24:30.719 And he says this ye they were depressed in body as well as in spirit, for they had fought valiantly by day and toil by night to maintain their cities, and thus they had suffered great afflictions of every kind. 00:24:30.719 --> 00:24:33.221 But this and this is Antipas. Yes. 00:24:30.719 --> 00:24:33.221 This is Antipas thing. 00:24:33.221 --> 00:24:35.140 So these are the all the adults. 00:24:35.140 --> 00:24:39.102 They are depressed as in body and in spirit. 00:24:39.185 --> 00:24:41.438 They're exhausted. As adults. 00:24:39.185 --> 00:24:41.438 Are exhausted. 00:24:41.438 --> 00:24:48.444 And the and the and the parents of these youth can't, can't fight because they have chosen to keep their covenants, which makes it that much stronger. 00:24:48.444 --> 00:24:51.865 But then verse 17, and now they were determined to conquer this place or die. 00:24:51.906 --> 00:24:55.285 Therefore you may well suppose that this little force which I brought with me. 00:24:55.285 --> 00:24:59.288 Yeah, those sons of mine gave them great hope and much joy. 00:24:59.705 --> 00:25:12.219 Now it came to pass when the Lamanites saw that Antipas had received greater strength to his army, they were compelled by the orders of Amran to not come against the city of Judah, or against us to battle, and thus we were favored of the Lord. 00:25:12.219 --> 00:25:18.724 For they had come upon us in this our weakness, that they might have perhaps destroyed our little army, but thus we were preserved. 00:25:18.724 --> 00:25:24.940 And then this they were commanded by Ammon to maintain those cities which they had taken, and thus ended the 26 year. 00:25:24.940 --> 00:25:28.652 And in the commencement of the 20 and seventh year we had prepared our city. 00:25:29.068 --> 00:25:31.863 We had prepared our city and ourselves for defense. 00:25:31.863 --> 00:25:32.404 How are they? 00:25:32.404 --> 00:25:33.280 How were they prepared? 00:25:33.280 --> 00:25:51.549 They were prepared because they let the youth be individual agents and spiritually and physically self-reliant enough that they literally saved all of these people, their lives and their families because they let these youth use their strength to overcome this depression and this moment of serious destruction. 00:25:51.758 --> 00:25:53.134 Yeah. The you saved them. 00:25:53.134 --> 00:25:59.723 You know, when you were reading that, my favorite part is these sons of mine gave them great hope. So much joy. Yeah. 00:25:59.723 --> 00:26:02.434 I mean, that is my. 00:25:59.723 --> 00:26:02.434 And the youth will do that. 00:26:02.434 --> 00:26:08.441 They have fresh ideas, new insights, and they see things with hope. 00:26:08.775 --> 00:26:09.817 Yeah. 00:26:09.817 --> 00:26:12.820 but we have to allow them to be part of the process. 00:26:13.613 --> 00:26:21.121 One of the things that I love here in 56 is you've got, Helaman comes to him and he says, I'm 43. 00:26:21.121 --> 00:26:28.044 Says, now whether so now they're saying, okay, Antipas, we're not sure we're not sure we're Antipas army. Yes. Right. 00:26:28.044 --> 00:26:33.758 Know if they stop, you know, if they turned around, it says now whether they were overtaken by Antipas. 00:26:33.799 --> 00:26:35.468 We know not. 00:26:35.468 --> 00:26:38.137 But I said into my man, I love how he calls a man. 00:26:38.137 --> 00:26:39.013 Yes. Again. 00:26:39.013 --> 00:26:46.688 Yep. Behold, we know not that they were halted for the purpose that we should come against them, that they might catch us in their snare. 00:26:46.980 --> 00:26:49.566 So he's kind of laying out a hard situation. 00:26:49.566 --> 00:26:51.942 He's like, this is this could be a trap. 00:26:51.942 --> 00:26:58.032 And now this is the part that I think is two dream for all of us adults, as parents, as leaders. 00:26:58.407 --> 00:27:02.244 Because remember, we're going to entrust the young men or entrust the youth. Yep. 00:27:02.453 --> 00:27:05.457 So he then says he paints the picture. 00:27:05.624 --> 00:27:08.585 Therefore, what say my sons? 00:27:09.210 --> 00:27:11.962 Will he go against them to battle? 00:27:11.962 --> 00:27:14.340 He doesn't lay out the plan for them. 00:27:15.342 --> 00:27:17.469 He says, okay, let's counsel together. 00:27:17.469 --> 00:27:18.928 What are we going to do? 00:27:18.928 --> 00:27:20.638 You know all the ramifications. 00:27:20.638 --> 00:27:21.972 What should we do? 00:27:21.972 --> 00:27:26.519 And he allows them to be the force to say, okay, this is what we're going to do. 00:27:27.103 --> 00:27:37.238 And he says, and now I say unto you, my beloved brother Moroni, can you imagine him telling this story that never had I seen so great courage? 00:27:37.238 --> 00:27:40.200 Nay, not amongst all the Nephites. 00:27:40.200 --> 00:27:50.210 For as I have ever called them my sons, for they were all of them very young, even so they said unto me, you can you imagine this, father? 00:27:50.210 --> 00:27:55.423 Behold, our God is with us, and he will not suffer that we should fall. 00:27:55.423 --> 00:27:58.425 Then let us go forth. 00:27:58.926 --> 00:28:02.262 we would not slay our brethren if they would let us alone. 00:28:02.262 --> 00:28:04.057 Therefore let us go. 00:28:04.057 --> 00:28:07.852 At least they should overpower the army of Antipas. 00:28:09.186 --> 00:28:14.776 And and I think it's important to realize that this was that now there. 00:28:14.776 --> 00:28:17.319 Cause someone hadn't told them. 00:28:17.319 --> 00:28:18.863 You got to fight because of us. 00:28:18.863 --> 00:28:20.740 Now they would have. 00:28:20.740 --> 00:28:27.247 But now they have said their words have been the catalyst for moving forward. 00:28:27.622 --> 00:28:34.837 And so many times we decide that we're going to tell them what they're going to do instead of engaging them and allowing them to be part of the process. 00:28:35.672 --> 00:28:41.301 and then, of course, you know, they never had fought, yet they did not fear death. 00:28:41.594 --> 00:28:43.096 So they were going into something. 00:28:43.096 --> 00:28:47.976 And so many times we think, well, you've never done this before, so I'm going to help you. 00:28:49.059 --> 00:28:54.190 Well, they had never fought, but because it's now their cause. 00:28:55.482 --> 00:29:03.991 They went forward and and we know what happens here because they thought more of liberty for their fathers that they even did for their own lives. 00:29:03.991 --> 00:29:05.910 But I, I want to jump in on that one. 00:29:05.910 --> 00:29:12.375 sometimes every, every generation has, has in a sense, stereotype. 00:29:12.959 --> 00:29:19.007 And I've been concerned a little bit that people have stereotyped a current generation with selfishness. 00:29:19.507 --> 00:29:29.267 My experience with the youth of today, those who are doing their best and trying to follow these prophets and and living their lives, they are not selfish. 00:29:29.267 --> 00:29:36.316 They I these are these are youth and young adults that are serving all day. 00:29:36.316 --> 00:29:39.611 They're trying to find they're trying to find projects and trying to find people who need their help. 00:29:39.611 --> 00:29:44.449 They're making phone calls, they're sending text messages, they're serving in bishopric, they're serving in Relief Society presidencies. 00:29:44.449 --> 00:29:45.991 They're serving in their families. 00:29:45.991 --> 00:29:49.077 They are so concerned about people outside of themselves. 00:29:49.453 --> 00:29:53.040 They are they are so ready and willing to serve. 00:29:53.040 --> 00:29:55.794 And I love that in verse 47, just like you just said. 00:29:55.794 --> 00:29:59.172 And they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives. 00:29:59.172 --> 00:30:04.093 They care about their families, they care about their parents, and they really are serving. 00:30:04.384 --> 00:30:05.636 We'll come back to this. 00:30:05.636 --> 00:30:07.721 They were taught by their mothers as we talked about this before. 00:30:07.721 --> 00:30:13.060 But their their real intention, as I see those youth today are very similar to these stripling warriors. 00:30:13.060 --> 00:30:13.894 The principles are same. 00:30:13.894 --> 00:30:19.192 These righteous youth today are similar to what it says in alma chapter 57, verse 21. 00:30:19.483 --> 00:30:23.654 They did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness. 00:30:23.654 --> 00:30:26.657 Yea, and even according to their faith it was done to them. 00:30:26.865 --> 00:30:29.868 I do remember the words that they said and me that their mothers taught them. 00:30:30.161 --> 00:30:31.246 Yeah, I am. 00:30:31.246 --> 00:30:38.586 I am seeing a group of youth and young adults today who genuinely are trying to do all they can to be obedient, and it is a hard time. 00:30:39.253 --> 00:30:47.345 President ion has asked us that we increase or raise our expectations of the youth today, and honestly, they they rise to the expectation at any time. 00:30:47.345 --> 00:30:52.517 And frankly, I think they're pulling us up to their expectation and we're pulling them to ours. 00:30:52.724 --> 00:30:53.934 And our young adults. 00:30:53.934 --> 00:30:57.855 I love watching on the campus and watching what they come up with. 00:30:58.605 --> 00:31:01.608 The clubs they come up with, the ways they help each other. 00:31:01.776 --> 00:31:09.284 And I think, you know, you, I always when they come to me and they say, we have this idea, could you I'm like, I don't need to implement it. 00:31:09.784 --> 00:31:11.451 How could you do it? Exactly. 00:31:11.451 --> 00:31:17.959 And they come up and do it so much better, so much more efficiently than I would ever do it from the top down. 00:31:17.959 --> 00:31:20.670 So they do it from the bottom up and it's glorious. 00:31:20.670 --> 00:31:21.796 It's absolutely gorgeous. 00:31:21.796 --> 00:31:32.472 I think that's one of the responsibilities on us as an older generation is to recognize and be humble as as Helaman was and saying, I am their father, but these are incredible youth. 00:31:32.472 --> 00:31:36.019 I love chapter 58, verse 40 where Helaman is writing. 00:31:36.019 --> 00:31:37.979 He says, but behold, they have received many wounds. 00:31:37.979 --> 00:31:41.566 Nevertheless, they stand fast in that liberty wherewith God has made them free. 00:31:41.941 --> 00:31:44.943 They are their members of the Lord, their God from day to day. 00:31:45.193 --> 00:31:50.157 They do observe to keep his statutes and his judgments and his commandments continually, and their faith is strong. 00:31:50.199 --> 00:31:52.826 The prophecies concerning that which is to come. 00:31:52.826 --> 00:31:54.913 I love that, Bonnie. Thank you so much. 00:31:54.913 --> 00:32:00.460 That beautiful understanding of allowing the rising generation to be engaged. 00:32:00.460 --> 00:32:04.087 Let's then look at this next topic powers of parents and mentors. 00:32:05.213 --> 00:32:11.011 And I think when I I've always thought of the 2000 stripling warriors, I always jump into their moms. 00:32:11.261 --> 00:32:12.096 I can't help it. 00:32:12.096 --> 00:32:20.229 Yes, I love their moms, but I think the other piece I love is their fathers, and we don't talk much about the peace of their fathers, so we can. 00:32:20.229 --> 00:32:21.021 We start with their father. 00:32:21.021 --> 00:32:21.855 Would you please? 00:32:21.855 --> 00:32:24.817 Okay, so let's go to 5627. 00:32:25.192 --> 00:32:31.824 as you know, as I was reading over this year, some years ago, I was like, oh, their fathers played a role. 00:32:32.200 --> 00:32:34.035 Yes. And, I love this. 00:32:34.035 --> 00:32:43.920 And it says in 27 now, it came to pass in the second month of this year, there was brought unto us many provisions from the fathers of those. 00:32:43.920 --> 00:32:45.922 My 2000 sons. 00:32:45.922 --> 00:32:46.297 Yeah. 00:32:46.297 --> 00:32:58.058 And I just think it's beautiful that the fathers were there, growing them up, making sure they had provisions, their swords, their spears, their food, whatever they needed another bedroll. 00:32:59.018 --> 00:33:00.853 maybe some more sandals. 00:33:00.853 --> 00:33:02.646 What is it that they brought? 00:33:02.646 --> 00:33:08.778 And how many times it says they brought unto us many provisions from the fathers? 00:33:08.778 --> 00:33:09.820 Anyway, I love fathers. 00:33:09.820 --> 00:33:14.116 I think there's such power in having father figures mentors in our lives. 00:33:14.491 --> 00:33:32.844 I'm just grateful for the the men that have stepped up to be at every, crossroads in my life, I will, I'm just always grateful for them, that have brought provisions and have been that person to, cheer me on and believe in me. 00:33:32.844 --> 00:33:34.011 But I can't agree more. 00:33:34.011 --> 00:33:36.763 I, I, I love talking about the mothers here. 00:33:36.763 --> 00:33:38.266 I think we use this. 00:33:36.763 --> 00:33:38.266 This is a mother's day. 00:33:38.266 --> 00:33:41.144 These are Mother's Day verses and for good reason. They are. 00:33:41.144 --> 00:33:45.230 The mothers did teach, but their fathers are nowhere to be. 00:33:45.314 --> 00:33:45.897 To be lost. 00:33:45.897 --> 00:33:50.193 They are right there, right standing side by side, equally yoked with their wives. 00:33:50.278 --> 00:33:52.446 They're raising these. Children. You know, I love that. 00:33:52.446 --> 00:33:56.826 One of the things I love about my father is he love Christ more than you love me. 00:33:57.492 --> 00:33:57.951 Yeah. 00:33:57.951 --> 00:34:13.425 And to know that my father believed in the Savior and to know that he would be bringing me provisions that would help me to know the Savior was a catalyst to just believing that there was a God, and then to see all the experiences that I had with him. 00:34:13.717 --> 00:34:15.762 It was always a point to the Savior. 00:34:15.762 --> 00:34:18.514 And so I know that there's mentors in many lives. 00:34:18.514 --> 00:34:20.349 Not everyone has a father. 00:34:20.349 --> 00:34:23.478 Yeah, and not everyone, has a good father. 00:34:23.478 --> 00:34:25.063 Maybe in their home. Right. That's. 00:34:25.063 --> 00:34:26.981 But I pray that they find the mentors. 00:34:26.981 --> 00:34:31.777 And if not, we have a heavenly Father who who fiercely loves us. 00:34:31.777 --> 00:34:34.780 I think we're we love people we serve, don't we? 00:34:34.780 --> 00:34:35.322 Absolutely. 00:34:35.322 --> 00:34:43.081 So we realize that our Heavenly Father is always serving us because he loves us in a way, in a capacity that we cannot even imagine. 00:34:43.873 --> 00:34:53.465 And, and so I love the fact that the Savior, and our heavenly Father always trying to serve us in a way that is always for our best interests. 00:34:53.715 --> 00:35:04.268 There's there's this great quote by sister Joy Jones, and I tied into to alma chapter 53 verse 20 and 53, verse 20 says, and they were all young men. 00:35:04.268 --> 00:35:08.106 We read this, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage and also for strength and activity. 00:35:08.106 --> 00:35:09.273 But behold, this was not all. 00:35:09.273 --> 00:35:12.275 They were men who were true at all times of whatsoever things they were entrusted. 00:35:12.860 --> 00:35:14.945 And you think about why they were this way. 00:35:14.945 --> 00:35:22.536 We see their their mothers, but we've also seen that they have seen their fathers and their mothers together bury their weapons of war. 00:35:19.867 --> 00:35:22.536 They're not going to fight anymore. 00:35:22.536 --> 00:35:33.338 They have these these parents have kept them by their side, these, these children now youth, now young adults have watched very carefully and have been mentored very carefully. 00:35:33.338 --> 00:35:40.346 And I would imagine some of them, because of this great war, I would imagine some of them, to your point, probably didn't have fathers that were on the earth. 00:35:40.346 --> 00:35:47.018 I imagine many of them, their mothers, that many of them we know that these women and these these these husbands and wives were being slaughtered literally. 00:35:47.561 --> 00:35:54.485 So these young, these young 2000 stripling warriors were being mentored by aunts and uncles and grandparents and teachers. 00:35:54.485 --> 00:36:02.409 It wasn't when we talk about their mothers that you see about the variety of women who they had in their lives, but Joy Jones makes this has this statement. 00:36:02.409 --> 00:36:06.873 She says, brothers and sisters, hold your little ones close. 00:36:07.206 --> 00:36:13.713 So close that they see your daily religious behavior and watch you keeping your promises and your covenants. 00:36:14.130 --> 00:36:18.009 And then she says, children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate. 00:36:18.800 --> 00:36:20.260 That's a that's an anonymous quote, that part. 00:36:20.260 --> 00:36:28.811 And then she says, we are indeed helping to teach and raise a sin resistant generation unto the Lord, unto the Lord promised by promise and covenant by covenant. 00:36:28.811 --> 00:36:30.521 Just hold them close. 00:36:30.521 --> 00:36:35.025 I mean, as parents, sometimes as teachers, we we need to be. 00:36:35.025 --> 00:36:38.112 We need to be mentors, not just in word, although we can. 00:36:38.112 --> 00:36:43.117 But boy, that example is, you know, says so much as far as our mentoring is powerful. 00:36:43.242 --> 00:36:45.411 It is is a powerful process. 00:36:45.411 --> 00:36:50.750 And I would add to that we have them engaged in the process, allow them to add their voice. 00:36:51.375 --> 00:36:54.711 you know, the young people now, they add their voice to social media. 00:36:54.711 --> 00:36:57.088 They add their voice to so many areas. 00:36:57.088 --> 00:36:59.925 But are we allowing them to add their voice to the cause? 00:36:59.925 --> 00:37:00.425 They help? 00:37:01.469 --> 00:37:06.806 Honestly, I as a teacher at BYU and I know there are many other places, but I. 00:37:08.391 --> 00:37:13.898 I have learned to go to class with paper and pen in hand because they they are teaching me all the time. 00:37:13.898 --> 00:37:18.777 I come with with, with things that I'd like to share and trying to follow the spirit and being a good mentor to them. 00:37:19.027 --> 00:37:25.034 But honestly, I sometimes I just sit there and I just want to turn the whole class over to them the entire time and just take notes. 00:37:25.076 --> 00:37:32.666 The responses, the wisdom, the experiences of these youth and young adults, literally are changing the world. 00:37:32.666 --> 00:37:37.380 Yeah, I love that we have youth in Bishop Ricks now that they're called high priests. 00:37:37.380 --> 00:37:42.092 And these in these areas of service and, and high councils and things. 00:37:42.092 --> 00:37:44.971 Right. And they I hope we trust them. 00:37:44.971 --> 00:37:47.889 Well, they were prepared before the foundation of this world. 00:37:47.889 --> 00:37:55.398 They were prepared in the previous life to have some of these qualities and gifts that need to be on the earth right now. 00:37:55.398 --> 00:37:55.940 Absolutely. 00:37:55.940 --> 00:38:05.115 And so if we will allow them and see them in the role that they have come down to fulfill, we will be so blessed and they will be a great support. 00:38:05.365 --> 00:38:06.701 I love that their support to you. 00:38:06.701 --> 00:38:18.045 You walk away with all the notes and all the paper pencils that are, you know, the restrooms over the the room that you can use to, capture what they have to tell you. 00:38:18.045 --> 00:38:18.545 One bunny. 00:38:18.545 --> 00:38:26.387 You know, I mean, it's not it's not just in the classroom in my whole life, I feel like, I mean, my students, my student assistants and my my research, as I call them, resources. 00:38:26.387 --> 00:38:29.014 I feel like I am, I am just blessed. 00:38:29.014 --> 00:38:34.061 I could not do nearly what I'm able to do without their help, and frankly, they do it so much better. 00:38:34.061 --> 00:38:42.402 I'm almost a little sheepish sometimes to just, you know, thank you, Heavenly Father, for let me being a fly on the wall as I watched these amazing young adults just change the world. 00:38:42.402 --> 00:38:44.195 I mean, they it's fascinating to me. 00:38:42.402 --> 00:38:44.195 They are. 00:38:44.195 --> 00:38:44.989 They truly are. 00:38:44.989 --> 00:38:48.117 Yeah, they I think that's why I love Southern Virginia University. Yes. 00:38:48.159 --> 00:38:52.663 Because I watched them change the world one person at a time. 00:38:52.663 --> 00:38:55.291 And they're not afraid to do it. 00:38:55.291 --> 00:38:57.460 They're just so engaged. 00:38:57.460 --> 00:38:59.336 Bonnie, there's a great quote by Michael T Nelson. 00:38:59.336 --> 00:39:01.755 He's talking specifically about the healing stripping waters. 00:39:01.755 --> 00:39:03.923 And this is from the April 2024 General Conference. 00:39:03.923 --> 00:39:06.010 So it's just it's fresh. He says. 00:39:06.010 --> 00:39:08.554 Helaman was a man that the young ammonites could trust. 00:39:09.554 --> 00:39:11.891 He helped them develop and mature in righteousness. 00:39:11.891 --> 00:39:14.893 They knew and loved him and would that he should be their leader. 00:39:15.478 --> 00:39:19.190 Helaman loved these young men like sons and saw their potential. 00:39:19.190 --> 00:39:20.315 I just love that statement. 00:39:20.315 --> 00:39:20.900 And then he quotes. 00:39:20.900 --> 00:39:28.157 Elder Del Granlund is saying that to effectively serve others, we must see them through Heavenly Father's eyes. 00:39:28.657 --> 00:39:31.994 Only then can we begin to comprehend the true worth of a soul. 00:39:32.411 --> 00:39:36.998 Only then can we sense the love that Heavenly Father has for all of his children. 00:39:36.998 --> 00:39:39.543 And then he goes on and talks about bishops and leaders and everything else. 00:39:39.543 --> 00:39:47.092 But I love this quote by Elder Redland that that Elder Nelson is, is is teaching us is see them and I love you. 00:39:47.092 --> 00:39:51.054 Elder Bednar and many others have asked his beloved and most recently to have eyes. 00:39:51.054 --> 00:39:51.722 To see. 00:39:51.722 --> 00:39:55.351 Right that that we ask the Lord to help us see them as he sees them. 00:39:55.351 --> 00:39:56.518 And I.
