Speaker 2: Really two different things to talk about. First, the game, I thought Kentucky actually played really well. I said great on social media, and we had a lot of sort of negative folks saying it wasn't.

Speaker 2: First of all, you look at this roster for Eastern Illinois tallest player six seven. You need to dominate him inside. They dominated him inside pretty much. All the bigs had nice point nights. You should do that when you're taller than the other team, and then they did so I'm not going to complain about that at all. They dominated on the glass, you know, just sitting here looking at the stats, Kentucky had Diabate had twenty, Garrison only six, but Yellowvich with eleven. Moreno, with eleven. They out rebound him forty nine to seventeen. That's an insane number, Billy. I'm not sure I've ever seen a forty nine to seventeen that is rebounding.

In general, my sort of wonders about the team, though, are still there. I mentioned Brandon Garrison only have six You know I still watching the game.

He still, though, to me, looks a little lackadaisical and just doesn't He doesn't completely look to me like the guy I saw last year. And I thought Jack Gibbons Goose had a really good point on the postgame show against Michigan State. They are one of, if not the most physical teams in the country. They are also a team that gets out in transition. They're kind of like they sprint up the floor. They either get you with a layup or then they run a long set. That's the way they play. Try to get transition or if they don't get it, then let's set up our offense. On defense, they're gonna be the most physical team we play. Probably they're gonna beat you, They're gonna bang you. It's gonna be a real test to me for Oway. Jack said this, so I'm stealing his point. But will Way be the O Way from last year? Take it to the basket, draw fouls, draw the defense, or will he settle for threes from outside? That's gonna be the question. Which O way is it gonna be? That Michigan State game will tell me a lot about where he is, because the Louisville game he was bad, and then even tonight, I just I just haven't felt like I've seen the Otega that I saw last year. Defensively, by the way, I thought Tucky was really good. We held him to what was it, nineteen in the first half. That's a pretty amazing number, especially when you consider that nine of them were three threes on back to back to back place. So in a minute we gave up nine and the other nineteen minutes, I think we gave up ten points. That's pretty good. At the end, it gets sloppy. We foiled a lot. I gotta be honest with you, I don't care whatever this game was over. At that point, Michigan State becomes a very important game and we'll have a lot.

I mean, there's a lot for it sounds like to me, and I've talked to a couple people that you a couple of who have written me, who work on these injuries, like he's gonna have an unstable shoulder all year, which means this can happen again, and it can happen again, and at some point he's gonna have to get that fixed.

You know, we just lost to Louisville three days ago. We don't know if our point guard is going to play. I don't think this is the time to put like B side album drops. You know, if you're gonna say something happened before the Louisville game, just say it.

The goal leading up to the game is to keep your emotions in check, and then right before the game they flip the switch, is what he says. He does something where they flip the switch and like say, get really pumped up. That's how I listened to it. And he said, quote, we flipped the switch in the locker room an hour and a half too early, and that hurt us. So I don't really know what that means. I guess that means they do some kind of thing where it's like, you know.

You beat Michigan State, a lot of these things will go away. He did also note there were two other things I thought were interesting. Number One, he noted that he thinks the biggest problem against Louisville was not getting back on transition, which Jay Billis pointed out a lot during the game. He said, they did a thing tonight where if you didn't sprint in the last ten minutes of the game, he was going to make you run seventeens. I think seventeens are apparently some kind of sprint drill, and that in the last ten minutes you can see those guys going crazy. And he essentially said the next home game, which I think against Loyal and Maryland, they're going to do.

It's kind of more like looking at like trends and like players and like how they do in the game. More so, I guess my big complaint was like just Jasper and like the backup point guards and stuff and not really like seeing a real defined like player step up there, which is kind disappointing.

He's played his entire life playing against Michael Brown, right, the kid from Wuivere. Like they've played against each other their whole lives. And Michal Brown was a star against your team, and you played six minutes. So you can either complain about that and say you should have been in more, or you can say, okay, I gotta step up. So my hope is he sees that and elevates his game. He's gonna play in a game. I think he's gonna play in the game Tuesday, which, if you remember, every year, the Champions Classic is like next to Duke in Carolina, it's the most watched college basketball games of the year. He's gonna have more eyes on him on Tuesday than maybe any game we play the rest of the year. So if I'm Jasper Johnson, I'm gonna get chances in a game that matters. I hope he is more focused for that game than he's been any all season.

Looks like Duke beat Indiana State by thirty eight, Arkansas beat Samford by four, Creighton beat four, Creighton beat Maryland Eastern by twenty seven, Texas Tech beat Milwaukee by seventeen. I just say that to say, if we didn't play well, how do you explain the fact that we won this game more than any other team won their game in the top twenty five. And by the way, some of these teams played really bad teams as well.

But like most of the great teams when they play these games, they win thirty plus. That's how you know that they're good. That's how I tell that we have a good team from a maybe average team, is you know, do we beat them by twenty We beat them by forty. The other thing I'd say, though, is the one thing I will say is this game has left me with a lot more questions than answers. Is specifically because of Mark's postgame comments. Like Mark's a smart dude. He doesn't just say something to say something, So what is his intention by this? And I don't really know? And hopefully we get some answers. That's my take.

You know, our DNA on defense is not you know, fast where we're gonna run and steal the ball and trap you. Our DNA is to protect the rim. And in women's basketball, and when you have a Clarestrack and Tianni Key and Amelia has it, which we affectionately call the triplets, Uh, they really cause a lot of havoc. And it makes us a very efficient defensive team. And that's the why that's what we lay our hat on is that type of defense, and it really works for us. And then on the other end, it gives us a plus two because we're a really good offensive rebounding team because of our height.

It is very, very different than the team we saw last year.

I don't think it's like last year because I think last year we just had guys who simply, I don't care how well they played, they were not gonna be able to guard Alabama. I don't feel like Andrew. This year's team is like that. I think pretty much every team we play, if we execute, we will have players who can guard them, I hope.

But the counter to that is we play all the good teams on the road. We play Alabama on the road, we play Auburn on the road, and we play Arkansas on the road. And I think we play all miss here there there, there's they're supposed to be decent. But so because of that, I think we're actually gonna have even if we struggle, we're actually gonna have a pretty good conference record. But I do think, you know, it's not gonna be like last year, where every single game was a war, but it also meant you could get a quality win at the bottom half of the SEC.
