Speaker 2: He was economical as what I would say, because he went against a depleted Lakers team, but he put up forty points, twelve rebounds, two steals in twenty six minutes of work. He had twenty five in the first quarter, and I thought, let's go for one hundred there against the Lakers, the artist formerly known as the Lakers. But no Luca, no Lebron and no chance. But twenty six minutes. And the scary part is he's only twenty two. He's the future, and the future is getting close to being now. Because if I said you could have any player in the NBA moving forward. It's Victor Wembnyama. Sga is pretty young. Obviously, Luca is young, Cooper Flag is young. But if I said you can have one player for the next ten years, I'm taking Victor wen Benyama. I know what the joker is, and he's the best player in the game. Sga is a wonderful player as well. Cooper Flag might turn out to be a twenty five, you know, twelve rebounds, five assists kind of guy. But when ben Yama is different, when you see him on the floor, when you see him next to other players, just different. But the skill set when you talk about coming into the NBA, the only other player who compares being ready to go was Lebron And that's as lofty of praise as you're going to get. But watching Wen ben Yama, and I know the Lakers didn't put out their full life HI last night, but it doesn't matter. He's that great and moving forward at age twenty two. That's where the sky's the limit, which is kind of where his head is. It's in the clouds there above everybody else. But watching that last night, and I kept thinking, he's making it look easy. These are NBA players he's playing against and to have twenty five in the first quarter. He knew when he got there, he knew when he went to interview the Seahawks that this was a better team, and he said that on National TV. I did like a tailgating video with them, and they spoke a lot about how the city really doesn't care too much about not the fans, the people do, but necessarily the local governments there don't really care too much about the sports teams.

Speaker 2: Now why wouldn't they because you have successful you know, as far as attendance goes with the Mariners, obviously the Seahawks. Maybe we're getting an NBA team, the Kraken. They've done really well attendance wise.

Speaker 6: I know, Seattle has a city at least used to have a housing problem where there just wasn't enough space for the amount of people that were moving there because of a lot of the companies that are headquartered there and they were driving employment, and so Seattle as a city was building up because there was no more room to build out. So I think that real estate there is a you know, a problem, you know. I think having all of that space there is an issue, and so real estate is incredibly valuable there.

Speaker 6: Think, well, right, Like, one of the things that Seahawks fans were complaining about is that the city would chase them from spot to spot, like you can't tailgate here, and then they would find a spot to tailgate, and then the next year there would be like a building put up there and be like, can't tailgate there, and it's illegal to tailgate over here. So then eventually they were like down under an underpass and like this is where we're tailgating. This is awesome, And it was kind of like every year they had to find a place to go, and they complained a lot about the local city government there.

We don't live there and we don't follow it, so we don't know the nuances. But when the Sonics left years ago, they got a bit of a tag and I'm sure there's more details to it that they didn't support keeping the Sonics, or some people didn't support keeping the Sonics, and it tagged them a little bit.

Now all of a sudden, everybody knows about curling, you know, snowboarding, luge, ski jumping. Now we become an expert after fifteen minutes. And plus there's something about the Winter Olympics. I think the danger element. Think about the Summer Olympics. There's not a lot of danger there. Now you do have gymnastics, but other than that, you know, it's kind of like you're running or you're jumping here, you're you know, taking your life in your hands with ski jumping, and you know, downhill skiing and going eighty miles an hour, and there's that element of i'd never do that, but I like watching it, and after fifteen minutes I know everything about it.

He's going down backwards, he does like a double twist flip and didn't land it, Like, oh, that's so dispunny. And then all of a sudden we're critiquing them that you know, he's got to do a triple something something and you got to have you know, whatever the lingo is. And I mentioned this yesterday, the genius of Dick eversaw my former boss at NBC, you get a tutorial. When you're watching these events, they will let you know this is what they're judging. These are the people to keep an eye on. There's always a backstory, and then they bring that to you. Now you're well versed. You're ready to go. So wife and kids and you and you're right there front and center, and now you know exactly what is going to happen or what could happen, and who these people are. Do a wonderful job on NBC. Speaker 5: Oh, hello there, I want to say five eleven and three quarters and a pudgy two twenty. I heard you guys talking about Washington State or Seattle sports in general, just to kind of enlighten you folks, But Washington State as a whole is a big sports state. I mean, Seattle has always been known as a baseball city and a basketball city. But when the Sonics left, that left a bad taste in everyone's mouth to where they would not support the NBA anymore. I know a lot of people that were diehard Sonics fans and now have stopped watching the NBA totally. But to go to I think it was Paul had talked about local government. The reason why it made feels like local government does not support sports in Washington State or Seattle in general, is Seattle itself is not safe anymore. A lot of local Washingtonians will tell you Seattle has kind of gone downhill a little bit in terms of how the government officiates the city itself and kind of where they set things up. So that's really where we're at Washington State sports.

Speaker 2: I have a brother who lives in Seattle and loves it there and you know, goes to all the different sporting events. He'll be at the victory parade today. And you know, it's like San Francisco got a bad knock, you know before we got out there, and people are like, oh, it's a war zone or man, it's you know, gone to hell. And you know, has it changed, Yes, But I thought that they did a wonderful job and that city was great, The people were great. I didn't feel unsafe any place that we went to, and you know, are like five mile radius there. Now every city has you know, I you know, have two kids who live in New York City, and you could find places in New York City, you could you know, anywhere you're gonna find that. But I found that San Francisco did a wonderful job hosting the Super Bowl.

I know myself, and if I would have spoken after, I would have said something that I didn't need to say. Obviously. You know, I was picked, high paid a lot, so people expect a certain thing. And I expect more of myself, So whenever I don't perform, I don't expect, you know, everyone to be like, it's okay, buddy. I mean, obviously it sucks, but it doesn't suck for anyone more than it sucks for me.

Speaker 2: Mike Reese covers the Patriots ESPN, NFL Nition reporter, How's morale? How would you sum it up in a.

Speaker 13: Great debt here this morning. I think there's two parts to this. There's the short term morale, which is they acknowledged they got their butt kicked in the Super Bowl. Will Campbell was asked what it was like to review the film of the game, and he said terrible, you know, and said they didn't deserve to win based on the way they played offensively.

Speaker 13: Short term morale. I think Mike Rabel did a really good job, as he did all year in terms of messaging with the team about the big picture morale. And he kept citing the number three hundred seven, three hundred and seven, and he was saying, this is the three hundred and seventh day of our program. His first year as the head coach. No one thought they were going to be here, So I think he was able to zoom out with the players and sort of allow them to see that they had a great season. Just a very disappointing end to that great season.

Speaker 2: Okay, but let's take it into next season with Will Campbell yep going to need surgery and was that really preventing him from getting any kind of stance to hold up to the Seattle defense? And then Drake May with his shoulder going into next season.

Speaker 13: So let's start with Will on the surgery. I don't know the answer to that question, Dan, but my hunch would be no. Just because he he had an MCL injury November twenty third at Cincinnati, he went on injured reserve, he missed I believe it was four or five games before coming back, and he said that that was no excuse for his performance. And so I'll follow up on that to see if any surgery is required. But my sense is no coming out of that. And Drake I know for sure because I asked him that question yesterday. With the right throwing shoulder, does he anticipate that it would need any surgery? He said no, just rest for that.

Speaker 2: You look at his regular season, and I said, I would have given him the MVP because I didn't think the Patriots were going to score twenty points in the Super Bowl. I mean I had them losing by double dig He did a lot for them during the regular season, and obviously vrabel that defense was wonderful, But we saw a different Drake May in the postseason, and I don't know what you attribute that to, because he was obviously under duress a lot of turnovers there and really wasn't very threatening, even though he came up with the most passing yards in one quarter in the history of the Super Bowl.

Speaker 13: So and in that great example of how stats can be misleading, because in the fourth quarter, I think I counted thirty one dropbacks and you know they were down nineteen nothing. So if I'm getting that right, then I think start with what Drake said yesterday. He acknowledged that he did not play as well down the stretch as he wanted to, and he said he's committed to make the promise that he's going to work hard to try to get back there and to right that wrong, if you will. So that's the first thing with Drake. I think who they played has to be part of this conversation. Those were four If we're talking about the playoffs. Four of the best defenses in the NFL, So I think that is part of it. In this conversation about his play tailing off in the postseason.

Speaker 2: You go with a last place schedule to now a first place schedule, and nobody's gonna say they backed into the super Bowl or the playoffs next year?

Speaker 13: It's exactly what Drake said yesterday. He said that everyone's gonna be coming after them next year. So they have to have the mindset that they haven't arrived, that there is more work to do to maintain their standing. Dan, They're gonna have probably six primetime games, and you know they got they're gonna have with the seventeen games, and they're gonna have one more road game than home game. And let's be honest, you know it's some people talked about the schedule they had this year and some of the breaks they caught, as if it was like a demerit to the team. I think two things can be true. They did have an easier schedule this year, they still went I to know, on the road that's not easy to do. So I think two things at the same time can be true, but it's not going to be like that next year the way it looks right now.

But at that point it had sort of spread, right. I will say this with the present team, there was one player, Robert Splaine, the linebacker, said it made him sick to hear that. But honestly, they've done a good job sort of separating and saying this is a new era, like we have respect for the old era, but they're not really clinging on to what they did in the past.
