A WTF night in NYC

The Phillies Show

The Phillies only need to win one more game to make the postseason. They only need to win two more games to win the NL East.

It’s going to happen.

But the Phillies fell into a first-place tie with the Dodgers for the best record in the National League, following Thursday night’s loss to the Mets at Citi Field. Taijuan Walker allowed eight runs in 3 1/3 innings. He is 3-7 with a 6.91 ERA, which is the fifth-highest ERA for any Phillies pitcher since 1901 (minimum 80 innings pitched). The Phillies are 4-11 when Walker starts.

It isn’t just Walker, however. The Phillies’ No. 5 starter has been a problem since Spencer Turnbull got hurt in June. The Phillies’ No. 5 starters have a combined 14.14 ERA in their last eight starts. They are 2-6 in those games. Those losses could be the difference between having home-field advantage through the NLCS and playing Games 6 and 7 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium, if both teams get that far.

Jim and Todd also talk about the Phillies’ offense. It’s struck out 44 times in the past three games.

Speaker 1: Hi, This is Kyles s forber and welcome to the Philly show Hi, everybody, Welcome to the Philly show Rooman Tomorrow Junior Jim Salisbury Todd's Lucky brought to you by the follow up Territory Network. It's Friday, Jim's Friday Friday. I think about that for a second. September twentieth, twenty twenty four, You've got a nice clean haircut going right now. I'm very jealous of you. You look shop.

00:00:44
Speaker 2: I tightened it up. How'd you get a haircut yesterday? I was pretty bushy, But yeah, my head feels a little lighter. But the important thing is we're here. Ruben is not Ruben is ocente. We are presente. He's taking a long weekend.

00:00:59
Speaker 3: Apparently, Oh sent does that mean absent?

00:01:02
Speaker 2: Absent? I remember that from like high school, high school Spanish, the teacher would do the role when you have to say on sent, I was Rubens is clearly today.

00:01:12
Speaker 1: I was very bad at Spanish. I took Spanish in high school, and then I took I went to Spain for like six seven weeks in the summer in college, and I actually picked up a lot just being there, immersed in it, and so I was like, you know what, I'm in a minor in Spanish and I'm going to like make be a Spanish minor. And then I came back to University of Minnesota registered for Spanish class and found out I had to do a lot of reading in Spanish and writing in Spanish. Didn't do it only class I ever dropped them, like goodbye, Spanish minor. I am not cut out for this.

00:01:44
Speaker 2: Obviously, and what we do very useful and uh but.

00:01:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, now I wish I would have kept with it, because now I feel like it's good be such an advantage anybody can speak Spanish.

00:01:54
Speaker 2: And you know, it's funny. I'm all for immediately on a tangent, but obviously so many Latin Spanish Latin Americans in baseball. I have so much respect for those guys that that, like Hector Nares, when he first came he to the Phillies, he didn't speak much English. He worked hard at it, and how he speaks very good English. Michael Franco over the years, his English hug got huge. I mean, you know, they they try and just I mean, hats off to those guys for just I mean, that's it's hard to do. It's it's hard to do, and and I just really have always respected it. And I tell them too. I said, man, you're English. He's getting great. You're working so hard. Yeah, that's that's awesome. You're really proud of that, much prouder than we are who we don't pick it up. I mean I picked up a lot of little words over the years in clubhouses, a lot of bad words. But I just I hope this is coming out right. I really respect those guys.

00:02:51
Speaker 3: It is what they do, Yeah, totally.

00:02:54
Speaker 1: And you know, like guys like Johann Roe and I understand they use the interpreter because it helps them get across their point. But all those guys can speak very good English. You know, Johann Rojas speaks very good English. Really, all the players, Latin players in the Phillies clubhouse do so. Yeah, like Bobby I had to do an interview in Spanish, Jim in Spain or in you know, Puerto Rico or Mexico wherever I would be crapping myself, I mean, all freaking nervous, so tons.

00:03:25
Speaker 2: Of I remember way back when when they got Bobby Abreo, I was doing a background piece on him and he had, you know, come to the States with the Houston Astros, and he told me that when he came to the States, the only two words he knew were which is chicken? And bonio, which his bathroom? And you know, he worked really hard at it and speaks great English. And then that great jose Mason story I think we told before that when he and his brother signed on the same day with the Blue Jays, they started playing rookie ball and they went out and bought Brian Adams cassette tape and they learned English from listening to the Brian Adams songs in the summer of sixty four.

00:04:11
Speaker 1: So Summer sixty nine, Summer.

00:04:12
Speaker 2: Sixty nine became Summer sixty four, not a good one for Phillies fans, that's not Freudian. But the Summer of sixty nine became his entrance song when he came in for the Bullpens.

00:04:25
Speaker 1: Yes, and that was great because that was my first well three was my first year covering the Phillies. And you know, I didn't really pay now. Back then, you couldn't just log on and find out what everybody's intro music was. And then Josey Mason would come in I'd hear that song, like, what a totally random song for a closer, because it's not like, right, it's not inter Sandman or thunder Ruck or Hell's Bells or whatever. It's like, this is a happy, go lucky, fun song. And then remember you telling me that story. I'm like, oh, that's that's that's pretty cool. Jimmy, you mentioned sixty.

00:04:55
Speaker 3: Four and U.

00:05:00
Speaker 1: That will not happen this year. Don't worry anybody. That will not happen this year. But the Phillies have kind of hit a little bit of a stumble. It will bump in the road and their quest. You just clinch a postseason birth, clinch a clinch to the NL East. They're still in the same spot that they were a couple of days ago, which is they need to win one more game, one more game and they're in the postseason. When two more games you win the NL East. They went into New York last night they had Taiwan Walker, and it could not have gone any worse anyway for Taiwan Walker, any worse Phillies. Taiwan Walker, you know, gives up a ton of runs and three to the third innings. Taiwan Walker's season gym three and seven six point nine to one ERA. It's the fifth highest ERA of any pitcher since nineteen oh one, any pitcher with at least eighty innings in a season. It's the highest ra by Phillies pitcher since nineteen thirty. That nineteen thirty team had like three guys above Tywan Walker. That pitching staff must have been wretched. Tymelon Walker in fifteen starts this season seven point one a ERA. Just disastrous year for him. He last night he said it, he's like terrible. It's been terrible.

00:06:21
Speaker 2: More more meatballs than little known as.

00:06:25
Speaker 1: More meatballs than littlone and give up four bombs yesterday. And that's another stat that jumped out. He's given up twenty four home runs in eighty two innings. That's a home runs per nine inning rate two point sixty three. And you go, wow, that's a lot, right, And then you go Jamie Moyer gave up a major league record five and her twenty two home runs in his career that was one point two home runs per nine inning. So that he's given up a rate more than twice of what Jamie Moyer gave up. I mean, obviously Jamie Moore had a great career. But just to kind of put that in perspective, two point six y three that is a massive, massive number, and.

00:07:03
Speaker 3: That number five spot is killing them.

00:07:05
Speaker 1: Innute. They're going to win, they're going to make the playoffs, they're going to win the division, as I said, But here's the part the problem. Now, this number five spot last eight starts through two and six out of that number five spot, They're now tied with the Dodgers for the best record in the National League.

00:07:28
Speaker 3: So if they stumble a little bit more or they finish.

00:07:30
Speaker 1: A game behind the Dodgers they lose home field advantage, they can point to this number five spot and say it cost them. That number five spots killing them.

00:07:39
Speaker 2: And I think they were up two for the best record a couple of days ago.

00:07:43
Speaker 1: On the Yeah Dodgers, Yeah, Dodgers are coming back.

00:07:46
Speaker 2: I mean a tangent. You saw the Dodgers yesterday. They win that ball game with Otani going six for six with three bombs and ten urbis maybe the best game in the offensive game in the history of baseball. But yeah, I mean, this a lot to unpack with that number five spot. You know, in the big picture, they're gonna they're gonna make the playoffs, they're gonna get a first round by but it's gonna prevent them or could prevent them from having that little extra that home field advantage. You mentioned what two and six in the last eight.

00:08:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, two and six in the last eight, those number five starters, and that's that's mostly time one Walker, but it's also Tyler Phillips, Seth Johnson, and Colby Aller a fourteen point one four era and I've looked.

00:08:34
Speaker 2: I look at that stat all the time. What is a team's record with this guy on the mound? I think it's very telling. Uh, you know, speaks to the performance of the pitcher. I think it speaks to the performance of the team behind him, because there are certain guys you take the field and you feel really good behind, and I think it's reflected in your performance. There are other guys that I think effect overall team morale or team chemistry or team confidences. And you know, this team doesn't seem like it's in a good way anytime that Walker takes the mound. We you know, I talked about this a month ago, and I still would be even though he's owed, you know, two more years at eighteen per I think I still would be surprised if he's in clearwater. I think it's gonna be really hard to bring him back. It's a big number to eat. I don't know if you can eat, you know, seventeen per year, and maybe moving to somebody who's looking for some innings and maybe taking a shot that he can rebount. Maybe God bless you if you can. But I would move on. But you know, in the in the short term and in the immediate picture. I mean, you know, last night, you know, balls are flying all over that that ballpark, and it almost like you know, they were resigned to lose that ballgame because they're down by a run in the fourth inning, you know, in that game, and and and he goes back out and he gives up, you know, a couple of big hits, and they end up giving up a five spot and then they're not in the game. Mets build more momentum. They go two up on the braves of the last wildcard, and I don't see the Mets catching the Phillies, but certainly they can build a lot of momentum on the Phillies and get themselves into the postseason and maybe really be a nuisance on the Phillies sometime in the month of October. But you know, I think the Phillies really are feeling secure in their place in the standings and that they're going to get there, and they are going to get there, and that's why they protected their bullpen. They might have fear maybe about Rangers suarez insanity. I don't know that he's not gonna go to the deep in the game, But I don't know why you couldn't get Taiwan out of that game and and and stay competitive in the ballgame. You know, I remember the days when they had five men bullpens. Now they're carrying they have. Now they have nine men in their bullpen. They could have gotten them out of that game, stayed in and see what happens. And now you know they're tied for the best record with the Dodgers. And you know, in all out failure to come up with enough pitching depth to really get through this season. I know you lost Turnbull. That hurt, but you know you've run a lot of people four or five, three or four people, five people through that number five spot and nobody can can knock it down and lock it down. So you have to go back to a guy who has fumbled at many times in Taiwan Walker, it's a failure. You need to build pitching depth. You need to get pitching depth. I'm sure it's going to be a priority in the offseason. I'm sure they're gonna be active in signing, you know, maybe second tier free agents and a bunch of them and say if something sticks. But a real failure there. You know, they've shown so much good depth recently on the position side with Clemens and Stevenson and Kennedy, but the starting pitching depth is nil and they we are just coughing up this number five spot every time. It's like an automatic loss. And though it's not going to impact them getting into the postseason, it might impact them in a very important matter, and that's getting the best record in baseball, and they could come back to really really rue this problem they have. So it's a tough one.

00:12:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, get the game. If there's Game six of the NLCS and they're playing the Dodgers, it's going to be a Dodger Stadium. It might not be a Citizen Bank Park. You know, you mentioned Jim Records as a starter. They're four and eleven when Taywe Walker is on the mound as a starter this season. But yeah, that so the fourth inning, which you mentioned, they're down one, Taywe Walker goes out. He's already thrown fifty pitches. Hear, he has already been hit really hard, obviously gave up three home runs to that point. He hits a batter, He walks a batter. Rob was asked, you know, first of all, why did he go out there? He said, well, we're playing thirteen games in thirteen days. This is Game seven. We're playing every day until Wednesday against the Cups. I'm not going to burn my bullpen. But as you correctly said, they've got an next armor. They've got Tyler Gilbert down there, They've got kolbe Aller down there. They could have maybe started the fourth inning with Josier Ruiz, who ended up coming in and seeing if they could have gotten the lead and then gotten into a positive situation and then used your better relievers. I guess they could have also started with Tyler Gilbert or kolbe Aller and seeing if just maybe they could given him a better look than than Taylone Walker did not started with Walker hits the batter, walks the batter and Rob was asking, well, why not pull him? Then he's like, it happened fast, and we've seen that before where it happens boom boom boom. It happens fast and they can't get the guy in. But but nevertheless, there were that was four three and out, seven to three. Now now you're really now you're really done. Now you're now the game's really over and you've got no chance. And the and the thing is that they had some really good at bats last night too, so and Rob is also acknowledging it's like we had some really good at bats. One point in the sixth seventh inning, I thought we were going to come back and maybe win this game. And that's that's the thing that they prevented themselves from doing. By leaving Taiwan walker in. You basically pulled the plug on any chances of trying to come back and win that game. After seeing how how good your offensive swing in the bath those first few winnings.

00:14:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, the decision to stick with Taiwan hurt. And just like I said, the overall lack of being able to develop any pitching depth that can you can trust, that can win you a ball game will give you five shutout innings or five innings of two run ball, anything to keep it close. But I feel like I feel like they conceded that one early, and you know, it would not have happened. I don't think their mindset would have been that if there was more you know, if they were in a closer race and there was more urgency. They know they're getting in. They just need to lock it up quickly. I mean, the good news is they won't have to deal with this problem after one more start. The number five guy only goes one more than they can trim their rotation down to three or four in the postseason. But like I said, it's something they're gonna have to build some depth so they can go five deep next year.

00:15:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, it won't be interesting because I know we talked about this. You mentioned that.

00:15:12
Speaker 1: You'd maybe just get rid of, you know, cut them loose, because the distraction spring training of having Taiwan Walker there is gonna be every time he starts, every time he throw, it's gonna be the same stuff. How's your velo? How does the split feel? You know you think he can you know this and that, I mean his vello last night was way up. It was a huge spike in velocity last night. Couldn't command the pitches though, so it didn't really matter that that the fastball day through the Francisco Alvarez was a two zero fastball right down the middle of the plate. So I got to think that they're gonna go out and signing one or two guys that can compete for that number five spot. And you mentioned in the last show, Jim mick Abel make Abel, this is his spot, man, if he had developed you talk about development, man, he was supposed to be up here, maybe pushing for a spot last season, and this is his spot right here where it's being an issue maybe next year with Drew Paynt coming back.

00:16:04
Speaker 2: It's it's definitely hurt that, you know, he walks just too many batters. He's spun his wheels in triple A and he should be knocking on the door if not here, and this, uh, you know, with this kind of veteran staff. And I would call it veteran even with Christopher Sanchez, who's young in his big league career, but he is twenty seven years old. It's it's a good staff. It's a veteran staff, especially at the top. It would have been a great second half to break him in a guy like Mick Abel, but it just hasn't hasn't happened, And just not enough pitching depth. I mean, Turnbull injury hurt, but overall, just not enough major league knocking at the door type pitching depth to get them through a season. And we're seeing it, and thank goodness, they built that really big early cushion on the backs of their starting pitching, mostly because that's going to get them to the finish line. But you know it's not gonna Number five ain't gonna be a big concern. Ain't gonna be a concern in the postseason because I know what is going to be a concern all these strikeouts.

00:17:10
Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.

00:17:11
Speaker 3: So let's I got a segue for this.

00:17:15
Speaker 1: Let's let's do Let's let's do Them's fighting words. Them's Fighting Words is presented by Shive Vintage Sports. Get unique throwback phillies, tea's hats and sweatshirts from local artists at their shops in Center City, Wayne and Westchester and at ship sports dot com. Ship sports dot com, Jimmy, we're suporting our Ship's gear, which we love. It's funny that you mentioned the strikeouts, because that was my them's fighting words Phillies quarter week. This is from Alec Bohm from Wednesday night in Milwaukee. They lose tow to one walk off loss. I don't think it's anything to freak out about or anything like that. Alec Bohm is talking about sixteen strikeouts in back to back games. That was the first time the Phillies had ever struck out sixteen times in back to back games in franchise history. Not really a big surprise because I mean back in the day, no one's striking out sixteen times in nineteen thirty five or nineteen sixty five or nineteen eighty five. But they struck out sixteen times in back to back games. They struck out twelve times last night. And then see that is the that is tied for the most strikeouts forty four strikeouts, tied for the most strikeouts in a three game span in franchise history. They also had a forty four strikeouts in twenty twenty two. And it's funny, Jim, when you look at those streaks, sixteen strikeouts and consecutive games, it's happened like twenty two times in baseball history twenty times.

00:18:51
Speaker 3: It's happened in like the last eight years. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, so there is.

00:18:58
Speaker 2: The swings have changed, the velos.

00:19:00
Speaker 3: Delos up the stuff. Now the stuff's nastier.

00:19:02
Speaker 1: You got guys throwing one hundred and three miles an hour, and you know, it's harder. It's harder to I think. But you mentioned the strikeouts.

00:19:14
Speaker 2: It's it's kind of a recipe in October for going home early. I mean, we spend a lot of time talking about the number five start of the number five starter is not going to be a problem in October. The strikeouts, the swing and miss, the leading runners in scoring position, that could be a problem. And it all starts with, you know, the inability to put the bat head on the ball because you're swinging and missing so much. I guarantee you. You know, the Dodgers, the Brewers, the Mets, the Diamondbacks, the Padres, I guarantee you all their analytics departments are just pouring over Phillies, video and data pouring over there at bats every way to get them to swing and miss and strikeouts, chase, get them off the plate, and and looking at that as a recipe to beat the Phillies.

00:20:03
Speaker 1: Speaking of that, Jim, not only the analytics department, but but the scouts. The Diamondbacks last night had three scouts at the game, and I did make a comment to one of them.

00:20:13
Speaker 3: I said, what's the scouting report going to be?

00:20:15
Speaker 2: Again?

00:20:16
Speaker 1: Sliders a low and away? You know, That's what it was last year from Game three through Game seven, it was, you know, pitches low and away, pitches lo and away, pitches outside, you know, and and you know, that's that's what the Diamondbacks coaching staff kind of reinforced to them. I know Mac Gilbert a story about that and the Athletic after the postseason is that they the coaching staff said after Game two, They're like, what are we doing here? We're not following our game plan. Throw them pitches away, make them chase, and they will chase. And that's and and that's what they and that's what they did. So, uh, sixteen, sixteen strikeouts and two games, forty four strikeouts and three games right now in a vacuum. Yeah, Alcahuma is it's nothing to freak out about or worry about. But on the other hand, that's why they lost last year. So you want to see them tightened up.

00:21:08
Speaker 2: We've talked about this going back to you know for months. I mean, when this team is showing some selectivity and squaring it up and taking good swings and having good reactions at the plate and laying off crap that spins off the outside part of the plate and getting in good hitters counts, they're very dangerous. They can put up big numbers on you but you know, and they can do it for two three weeks at a time, really good numbers, and that might be enough to win the World Series. But if they start, if you know, swinging that stuff off the plate and striking out a ton and leaving guys in scoring position, it could be an early exit. We saw how quickly it can shift last year. They ground up the Marlins, they ground up the Braves, they were grounding up the diamond and then it just disappeared it was over. So it can. I think it can be dramatic in both ways, in a good way or a bad way. And because this offense, you just have to hope it's it's dramatic in a good way. Because all octobers are crucial, right, you only get so many chances to go to the postseason. This one is for this team is so crucial. You know, all their key players are getting north of thirty, they've been banged up, the odometer is turning. They have a humongous payroll. This will be the third straight year they've gone to the postseason. You know, the expectations are huge for them to cash in. You know, this year, next year. You know there's that talk of the window. We talked about the window like a half a generation to go to the point, you know, ad nauseum. But it's it's it's real, and it's a fact. You got Zach Wheeler dealing, he's not getting any younger. You got Nola, he's not getting any younger. Harper and Turner, uh Chwarber. You know, these guys are prime and you need to cash in. Sous is a crucial, crucial time for this ball club.

00:23:08
Speaker 1: Yeah. For some reason, when I think about those strikeouts and I think about the postseason, just the swinging away, I think of that. It's not a scene I would send a scene in the movie Miracle where Herb Brooks is telling the eighty hockey players and the US team He's going to play play your game, Play your game.

00:23:25
Speaker 4: I almost feel like Evan Long's got to sit there and the dug out in the postseason and go, you know, control the strike zone or whatever he wants to say to keep those guys caase and just repeat it every every inning, you know.

00:23:37
Speaker 2: But the thing is they've been doing that. He did that last year, and they really stressed it this spring training. They brought it new voices. It's a constant topic of conversation. But when it's a different game, when you're in the batter's box, that game is moving so fast. I mean, it's you know, it's like just you know, pedal to the metal, the speed of a big league baseball game. And I'm not talking to the velo the pitchers. I'm just talking to you overall speed of the game where you're so immersed in it. If you're hearing voices in your head saying, you know, be selective, layoff this's and you know it's gonna be natural. And when the game speeds up a lot of times, you're gonna go back to kind of your natural ways. And there's just so much swing and miss and chase in this team's DNA. Yeah, the best thing I think is don't fall behind. You got to get early leads because I think when you fall behind, you press a little bit. When you press a little bit, that's kind of when when the bad stuff happens, shut chasing this stuff off the plate. So I think early leads are really really paramount for this team going forward here.

00:24:50
Speaker 1: But this does feel like you mentioned the window. I mean, this this season, it's.

00:24:54
Speaker 3: Really set up.

00:24:54
Speaker 1: You know, twenty twenty two, surprise the hell out of everybody, so much fun, had a blast. Yeah, you know you would have. You wanted to win the World Series. He lost the Game six, but nobody really expected to get there. Then last year you totally spit the bit in the NLCS. It's like, this is the year. It seems like they have the best record in baseball right now, one of the you know, the best rotation in baseball. Right now. You have Zach Wheeler at the height of his powers, prime Bryce Harper, prime Trade Turner. This seems like it's it's the year. I mean it could have. If it doesn't happen this year, sure it could happen next year or the year after that. But yeah, these opportunities are it does take advantage.

00:25:33
Speaker 2: It's it's time, like now, next year the year. It's time. It is time. Uh. And they know that we're not sitting here.

00:25:42
Speaker 3: They're not idiots. They know that's why they want to That's why they they've been.

00:25:46
Speaker 1: They mentioned it a few times throughout the season.

00:25:49
Speaker 3: They know this is this is it.

00:25:50
Speaker 1: They're not idiots. Cush forward.

00:25:52
Speaker 3: Nos, He's like, you know, I got two years left on my deal.

00:25:55
Speaker 1: You know, Bryce Harper knows he ain't getting younger.

00:25:57
Speaker 5: J T.

00:25:58
Speaker 2: You know, T great great respect for JT. I mean great respect, just toughness, but plays such a demanding position. He's north to thirties, had injuries, uh yeah, and Nix and you know it's just this. You know, these these this stuff doesn't last forever when you have a core like this, and at some point you need to make it happen for sure.

00:26:20
Speaker 1: So let's let's wrap it up. I want to ask you any any thoughts on Shoho Tani getting to the fifty to fifty club and I because I want to ask you, see if I want to test your Phillies memory. So uh, I mean unbelievable that the game he had last night, that guy is so much fun to watch. I really hope it's Phillies Dodgers at some point this postseason. If it happens, it would be NLCS. But I mean, come on, Phillies, Dodgers and the NLCS, if if if both teams do their part, and the Seeds they.

00:26:51
Speaker 2: Have such a great history in the NLCS in two different eras of base different ears.

00:26:56
Speaker 1: And the Phillies have actually done really well against Shoeo Tani this season, and they've done well in eighth nine. So you know, the Dodgers obviously had their number in the seventies.

00:27:07
Speaker 2: So that what a what a season, what a player, what a dynamic offensive force. And he's only honestly, he's having this great season. He's only half the player he used to be.

00:27:20
Speaker 1: People have been asking about, like MVP Francisco Lindor, chase him down or no shot.

00:27:25
Speaker 3: I mean there was no shot even before he got to fifty to fifty.

00:27:28
Speaker 2: But and I have great respect for what Lindor is doing because I love a guy wrong. I love a guy that takes a team that really kind of spun its wheels early. And the Mets have played great since June one, and it's been that driving force to lift a team up and kind of backbone a playoff run and electrify a ballpark and love what he's doing. I just fifty to fifty, I mean six for six last night, ten Ribbi, I mean three home runs.

00:27:57
Speaker 1: That home Rundy hit the right field in the second deck, halfway up the second deck. You don't see balls hit that far in batting practice, do you.

00:28:04
Speaker 3: I was trying to think of that.

00:28:06
Speaker 1: Always that always that ball is destroyed. So the Phillies, obviously they've never had a fifty to fifty player. They've never had a forty forty player, Jim, they've had two thirty thirty players. I mean, it's kind of a I think you'll get this. Who are the Phillies two thirty thirty players?

00:28:21
Speaker 2: Jimmy Rowlins Jimmy.

00:28:22
Speaker 1: Rownds in two thousand and seven had thirty home runs and forty one stolen bases.

00:28:28
Speaker 2: Was Bobby and Brayer one of them.

00:28:29
Speaker 1: Bobby Bray was the other. Bobby brayw in two thousand and one. In two thousand and four, two thousand and one, he had thirty one home runs thirty six stolen bases. Two thousand and four he had thirty home runs and forty stolen bases.

00:28:43
Speaker 2: How about how about Sherry McGee.

00:28:46
Speaker 5: Sherry McGee, I don't not even thinking he had enough pop in the old bat back then he was swinging that forty eight out bat. Probably yeah, No, Cherry McGee did not do it either, did his Sliding Billion Hamilton didn't either.

00:29:01
Speaker 2: Sliding Billy Hamilton, he used to get a lot of ink when we were writing about face stealing.

00:29:06
Speaker 3: Right, yes, sliding Billy Hamilton.

00:29:08
Speaker 2: Yeah. And then and then when Mike Liverthal, when Mike Liberthal was climbing the ladder of of most games called. I feel like I was always writing Red Dowan's name.

00:29:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, Red doing exactly. You know how sliding Billy Hamilton got his nickname, don't you.

00:29:26
Speaker 2: He? Uh? He used to do the electric slide at weddings.

00:29:31
Speaker 3: He liked to slide a lot.

00:29:32
Speaker 1: Apparently that's how he got his name.

00:29:34
Speaker 3: They were very creative back They were very creative back then.

00:29:37
Speaker 2: They had some great nicknames they did.

00:29:39
Speaker 1: They did all right, Well, we will be back on Monday.

00:29:45
Speaker 4: I'll probably be talking about how the Phillies at least clinched a postseason.

00:29:49
Speaker 2: If they haven't by then, some I'm starting to get nervous, yeah, because if they get swept by the mets.

00:29:56
Speaker 3: I mean, oh my lord, people mean full panic mode.

00:29:59
Speaker 2: If they if they get if they get swept by the mess, we might have to bring in some expert analysis from one Ruben Tomorrow.

00:30:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly. He is all about that.

00:30:11
Speaker 2: If he deigns to join us.

00:30:14
Speaker 1: Up, he'll be back, Ruben, only back on Monday. We'll have the game back together, the three amigos on Monday. So Jim, enjoy your weekend. I will smell you later.

00:30:25
Speaker 2: Smell your lated, buddy.
