Kind of four Finger Discount dude. Welcome to fourth Finger Discount. This week
we hit a review episode jab F zero two. It is the whore Hoard
Couple. I am dan though, and I am guying. Yes, And
individually we're just a couple of twigs, but you put us together and we're
we're one strong bundle of sticks. Yes. I was shocked when I heard
this, But it's a word. It's a word. I think. I
think our pals Trey and Matt did a whole episode about this particular word.
Yeah, yes, how the meaning of particular terms changes over time, but
yeah, this was an unexpected gig. It was. Indeed, there's a
couple of unexpected lines in this episode where I was like, wow, we
how do you think that one's past the censor? But I guess they can
get away with stuff because they can't get any notes from that from the exacts.
That is true. And also this was this particular episode was the work
of Dando's new bff and dining buddy, Matt Selman. Yes, and he
loves to get things past the senses and he did pretty well this time around.
Yeah. So the whore Hoard couple an episode that I really enjoyed.
Again, you looked at me like you don't enjoy it? As I often
say, it's not that I didn't like it, m No, there,
I would think there were aspects of it that I enjoyed more than other parts,
and there were some that felt like, ah, this bit's a bit
rickety, but we'll get to that as we as we go along, as
we break it all down. But generally, I mean, I think one
of the issues that I might be having as we enter, you know,
season eighteen, as we entered this sort of mid stage is like, but
didn't you already do something like this? You're gott to trade your brain not
to do that. I know you have to. When it shows that it's
eighteen season, you've got to just you gotta get I did it last week
we were talking about the ice cream margin. But it's like it's different when
it's a Homer and Marge argum because we've done it so many times. But
when it's like, you know, once or twice in the past that Nelson
had Bart, it's like, you can let us see. I think you
just have to start letting it slide. It is. And when you put
it that way as well, I mean if you're talking about younger characters as
well. I mean, you know, the dynamics of the playground are always
sort of shifting and evolving and things like that, so it would make sense
that maybe you would go back around to something else as well. I don't
know the whole well, what do you think you'd seen before, the whole
misunderstood Nelson thing. I mean, I think it's it's fertile territory. It's
something you can keep going back to occasionally. But yeah, I think the
relationship between Bart and Nelson just being complicated or you know, throwing sort of
unexpected friendship and I don't know, people being a bit clinging all that stuff
into the mix. It just felt a little haven't I seen this before?
And maybe in a way that sort of resonated with me a bit more.
That's not to say that there wasn't stuff in this episode that didn't appeal to
me, but yeah, it just felt kind of like, I feel like
you've sort of done this and maybe better. But having said that, a
fair bit to enjoy. I think we've entered the ear here, and maybe
it's just season eighteen, but it's the Each episode's in its own vacuum.
It episode up more to me though than when they went to the mall and
it was run down and then we returned the next week and the mall thriving
again. I was like, how do you have that difference? Yeah,
that's something that feels like a legitimate sort of oversight, like almost like this,
you know, three or four different writing crews working on the on the
on the show, and like, wait a minute, you guys aren't communicating.
You know, the mall was like this, and now it's like this
and in the space of two episodes, you can't really have that. No,
we're going to notice and you know, we're probably gonna take issue with
it. Yeah, so what we do. I can see how it would
be a negative and seen as negative as a result of doing this, but
it's just like, I don't know. I'm in that mentality now where I'm
just like, we have to stop going we've seen this before, because we
start doing it, we'll say every single week, Okay, yes, all
right, well I'm not going to pretty but I had my notes here.
We've had this story before. However, it's probably gonna happen time and time
again. We need to not think this well and more. Okay, this
is Dando giving you more bang for your buck because I'm kind of like,
I've seen this before, and Dan's like, we've seen this before, but
he's a yes and kind of guy. I'm a no butt kind of fellow.
But I liked the different twist on this one here where Bart was like
getting the perks of being Nelson's friend in this episode, he could we have
never really had that aspect before. That's true, and I almost wish they
had because it seemed to me that the only way they really covered that.
I mean, they did it in a few other little ways, but the
main way they did it was through that homage to to Goodfellas, where it
was good Fellaws the walk you walk in the back entrance, and you know,
everyone sort of glad handing you, and ye, you're get in the
VIP treatment even though you're not sort of being a vip through the front door.
It's like, well, everybody loves you, but we're still going to
sneak you in the back door. I thought that was kind of fun in
and of itself and me and you know, good Fellas is a classic,
and anytime you can pay tribute to a classic, why not do so.
But it didn't. It seemed like the rest of the episode didn't show the
benefit for Bart of sort of riding on Nelson's bully coattails. Maybe maybe I
wasn't watching closely enough. I mean, I'm sure they did have bits like
that, but it just kind of felt like that was the main way we're
illustrating, and he's not getting beaten up by the bullies anymore that I suppose
that was the other one. Yeah, yeah, I mean there were really
two scenes. To my mind, yea, and it didn't quite feel like
enough. I mean, it would have been maybe you could have had him
choosing Nelson over Millhouse. That would have been a fun sort of like story
progression there, because he know he's Nelson by going and playing with Millhouse because
eggs of mine. But it's like him having to choose over his long lifelong
best friend to hang out with Nelson because of the perks he's getting by being
friends with Nelson. Probably would have been a more interesting story. It would
have been good if he was trying to play both sides of the fans more.
Yeah, And it didn't feel like they explored that just enough. I
mean, and because I mean that feels like a very real thing that could
happen as well. I mean, if you've got two friends who were very,
very different, and you know they wouldn't be friends, but you enjoy
spending time with both of them, but you you know you clearly couldn't be
a trio. Yeah, I've lived. I've had that. Yeah, Oh
yeah, I think I think so many people have had that. I'm pretty
sure I've said so many times on the show about my I threw a fortieth
birthday party. Everyone was separated, weren't there and yeah, and I was
like, everybody loves guys, so all these people are going to love each
other. It's like, no, there were just little clusters all over the
places, like none of the people who I like like each other. It
wasn't that, but it was more like, oh, this isn't the you
know, the great coming together. I thought it was, yeah, exactly,
And I was sort of like running between the three groups all night and
sort of like code switching every time. Hey, guys having a great time
over here having fun. I really enjoyed the be pot of this. I
think because this is obviously touching on Harry Potter. You mentioned on last week's
show Homer is skipping your head because he's so enthralled. He's a broken,
lonely adult reading this book and and Lisa's one to skip ahead, but he
can't have himself. He has to do it. This now is more relatable
in the sense of binge watching shows. And don't lie. You've been binge
watching a show with Louise and one point you're going probably watching an episod of
two and just not tell her. Right, I've done it with Nikola.
The problem is when you do that, you have to then rewatch it if
you want to sell the bit true, because you can't then go is it,
admit to it, or sit through it again. Something that works out
pretty well for Lu and myself is that our tastes are complimentary in some ways
but also different than others. So, I mean, I've got some shows
where it's like, I know, Lo's not going to be into this.
I was at my place the other night and she was texting what she was
watching. The kids are watching one of those medical like Chicago Meat or something,
yeah, and I said, I'm watching it. I'm watching a Netflix
documentary about Korean film nerds because I'm me. She sent back to laughing emotion.
So I was like, yeah, I wouldn't subject you to this,
you know. But she's like she's like really into Yellowstone and I've never really
sort of gotten into it and she just watches it by herself. Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I think we've all got those shows. But I
sometimes I see a show right and I'm like, oh, that's the show
Nicola I would like to watch, right, And then I'll walk in and
it's like Nicholas, the camp continue watching, Like bitch, you started watching
I had the force that it go you would like this. She's like,
well, you didn't tell me. You should have known. I was like,
yeah, I mean, what's funny is I I don't know if I'm
trying to get busted by Amazon for this, but I mean, I I
signed into my Amazon Prime account over at lose Place, but it's also on
my place. But so Luke can see what I'm watching on Amazon to be
careful. Well, I mean, I wasn't watching anything like bad but Naughty
unless you can't Morebus because it's like, I'm not in the mood to think
I just want shapes and colors. Yeah, Mobius, Luis, I can't
be with the man he watched Morebus. So Lukens, you know next time
she goes on the Primes like Morbius on like oh man, oh boy,
just in the background while I was doing the folding laundry did it? At
first? As you have to think, how does she know? No?
I know I knew because her place when we're looking for something on Primes,
like hey, no, that's the ship I was watching. Have we to
talking about that? I was just bitch watching this. Yeah, it is
basically binge reading. It's binge watching. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And
I just thought Homer was so sweet throughout all this. You know, he
just the way he reacts is how most of us would react with We're just
like just the chapter, you know, just the chapter. What the heart
harm could it be? But then at the end, as we discussed sort
of like last week, we'll expand more here, he makes the fake ending
for Lisa because he doesn't want to ruin her child would be the end of
my childhood. I thought it was just a really sweet moment. And then
to back it up with Lisa reading real one going dance version was better?
Yeah, no, sweet, right, it really was. Yeah, I
mean it was a very very sweet, very paternal gesture on the part of
Home. I mean, I'm a I'm a big believer in that fiction sort
of prepares you for the real world and a lot of wise oh yeah,
a lot of things that we that we do in life preparations for later on
in life. Hey, kid, do you like mafussa well? Even having
a pet, yeah, you know, I mean it's a great way to
learn about responsibilit I mean, of course, you know, my pet is
a wonderful fuzzy buddy to unless got a goldfish. It's a what's the pretty
buddy? Yes, indeed, old real taate, but yeah, it's a
great way to learn about responsibility and also, sadly a great way to learn
about, you know, our lifespans a kind of fine. Not everyone's going
to be here forever. Can you remember the first not everyone family member that
you remember losing? For me, it was my grandfather, my mum's dad,
so that and that was sort of like the first somebody experienced death that
would impact me. I think it was my mother's grandfather as well, and
I was not his grandfather, father or grandfather, oh sorry, my mother's
father. My mother's father, my grandfather, who I didn't really know all
that well. I mean, I think he was pretty deep into dementia by
the well, so whenever I would see him would basically just be the old
dude sitting in the chair when we would go and visit with him. My
grandpa was just unexpected. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I mean to
all by all accounts, it was a wonderful fellow, a very sweet guy.
But I mean I didn't really know him at all, but I remember
how distraught my mom was in the morning. That's what you remember isn't it.
I remember my mom coming home deshort, that's what I remember. Yeah,
yeah, I mean I remember waking up one morning and my mum had
clearly got the news, and my dad said to me go down and say
to your mum that you're sorry to hear about papa. We call papa.
So, yeah, Papa Rossa was Yeah, that's one because that was mum's
maiden name. And I remember going down and she was just sitting at her
you know, he's sitting in her bedroom and just crying. I know this
was the first time I probably seen my mum cry. Yeah, And I
said, I'm sorry about that. But even though I didn't really help you.
I would have been about six or seven. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
but I remember that vividly. But yeah, I mean that's you've got
to have those lessons and if you can sort of sugarcoat them, or you
know, it's sort of cushion the blow a little by a bit by way
of fiction or whatever, or I was about to say, even by being
an animal. That's probably even more traumatic. But I thought, I thought,
was that yeah, and Mohamma did here, No, no, there
was it was a lovely gesture. Yeah, because you know, sometimes like
they're feeling very strongly about this, let's let's ease the blow a little bit.
Yeah. Yeah, because I thought it was going to be when he
did it, I was like, we're going to get at least of being
angry at homer story because he went ahead. And that's the thing. Yeah,
I mean I was bracing myself again, talk about bracing herself. I
was thinking, oh God, this is going to be fucked up, and
you'll give some half fast kind of kind of apology at the end and everyone
everything will go back to normal. No, he actually played it pretty well.
Yeah, it was a plan. And why did not see this ending
coming at all? Yeah? It was and it was appreciated by Lisa,
you know. I mean she recognized as well that it's like he meant well
and he actually did. Well, that's the cherry on the cake, just
at Leasta acknowledging it. Yeah, that was good. That was good.
Yeah, because she's old enough to she's smart enough to be able to handle
it. But I hope, but to home, she still is a little
girl very much. So yeah. Yeah, I mean we sort of talk
a bit about can we get Lisa right? Yeah, And this felt like
they did Lisa right in that she's smart and precocious, but also yeah,
willing to and happy to be a child. You mentioned our boys training that
before with the word but this episode. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy
Award in two thousand and seven for Outstanding Animated Program, but it lost to
south Park. Oh like south Park? Going down to south Park? Check
it out in all of your feeds, whether it be Spotify, Apple Podcasts,
over listen to your podcast going down to south Park. Check it out.
It's a hell of a good time, my favorite. All right,
misnavous, what were your favorite moments from the hard Hord couple? Having said
that, I don't have that many actually sort of highlights, I've got one
here, but I'm like, I enjoyed a lot more than that. Yeah,
I've got the better than walking in on both your parents instead of just
one. I was like, holy moly, that's a really that's a pretty
great game. That's either that's either the way having fun or Kirk being sad.
It's Kirk cry winking. Yeah. I was like, after you,
what does that reader choose your indventure? All right, well, what would
be worse to work walking on? Oh? I think it's much worse walking
on your dad wanking than your mum pleasuring yourself. Right, walking on your
dad wanking? What is that? To quote the great tagline from Alien Versus
Predator, whoever wins we lose? Have you ever walked in on just your
parents? No? No, I think I think that the encounter that resulted
in me might have been the last. No, I'm sure it wasn't.
No, I never I never walked in. I think I like I when
I was younger, I think I may have. I've never like discussed it
with my parents. I feel like I may have, like about to walk
in and heard something I was like, oh, just god the other direction.
Now I feel these memory of like maybe that happening, But I'm like,
I'd rather pretend it didn't happen, So I'm not going to try and
deal further into that memory. That room sounds haunted. What are those girls
getting up to in there? I did enjoy that moment. The other thing
that I enjoyed, and I alluded to it in our previous episode before You're
like my favorite moments for next week's episode of like how do we stop hit
me? With the ban? Said? Well, talk about that episode when
we get to that episode, so it's like this week's episode begins with and
we talking about a fait moment for next week. First hope we don't,
because I'm unclearly of a mind that time is not linear. But something I
really enjoyed from this episode was Lisa eating the ice cream and discovery she found
a major marshmallow vein. She was so excited for it, she was indeed,
Now, let me talk about what I wanted to talk about the previous
episode, which why don't we talk about next week's episode? How about we
jump ahead? Inn I'm back when I was a little kid, say around
ten years old. I believe the fine folks at Streets or maybe Peter's ice
Cream, but Peter Street's the same thing. But do they become one eventually?
Maybe I'm wrong Street, Peter, Streets, Streets, this Streets ice
cream? And I think there's Peter's ice cream. Who does the puddle pops?
That's Streets, right? I think? So? I think Streets is
the one that's you know, streets ahead street speak, Yeah, Peter.
What's what's Peter's ice cream? Which one that's Peter's Blue ribbon or Streets Blue
ribbon, Peter Peter's even a thing does make it up? Samas sounds like
a thing Pete's ice cream, and they's come up with Peter's Pete's ice cream.
No, it is not Australia's favorite ice cream and a true Australian icon,
but it's like that. So it's like that, it's more like tubs.
That's not well that's what I'm talking Yeah, okay, yeah, well
I'm actually talking about tubs. Yeah, so it's like Peter's ice cream is
the tubs? Yeah, okay, Well this was this ice cream was called
Sunday and it's was kind of a Neapol. It was like, you know,
had Neapolitan's got the three stripes, right, Pete Peter's here go.
They did drumsticks and Maxi bomboms. I knew it was Peter's. Yeah we
go. Oh no, this was like Neapolitan, but all like it melted
in the car, so all the colors were melted into one another. But
it also had these Petit marshmallows in it, and I fucking loved it.
But that's for like last week a memory of a food. But I would
be you know, sort of going through it. But I would do that
thing as you can taste it, right, Yeah, as Bart did in
the previous episode where he's like, I only like the clown heads and the
Krusty Cereal. I was like, I only like the marshmallows, And so
I'd be going through it and like I'd be like like an archaeologist. I'd
be like Alan Grant a Jurassic Park dusting off the little marshmallows are putting him
in a bowl. So I've got like a tiny scoop of ice cream and
a ship done, a marshmallow, a tub of ice cream. Yea,
and everyone's in the Binigo came with marshmallowsad kid who had this kid who brought
in All right, we did damn it New Year's Eve anyway. But yeah,
that was Lisa's appreciation of just finding, Yeah, a nice vein of
caramel or marshmallow or just that flavor in your otherwise perfectly fine but bland ice
cream. Yeah, that's great. Next question, you there eating the beast.

question that, mister Davis, if you don't mind, because I've only got
one written here, so I have to make up a couple more whilst you're
reading me in one of yours. My first question is what is Nelson's address?
It's written on the invitation. Oh my god, I did not pay
any attention to that as a free famery one. It was nineteen Fish Smell
Drive. It sounds like another gig. That's kind of okay, let's go
there. No Um Bart is doing a report on which River Bart is doing
a report on Nile On the Nile. How did Nelson's mum get all the
money for the party. Uh did she was an amusement park accident just to
get hit in the head by something? Yeah, hit her head on a
carnival ride. On a carnival ride. What is the name of the Munk's
family cat? Oh, mister Mooch's or something. It's mister Mooch, all
right. And my final question for you will be where did they go to
fight Star Wars? In the finale of Homer's story, they go to Star
Wars Star Wars to fight Star Wars. I have a question related the Dragon
King's trundle bed is the witch installment in the Angelica Button series We'll want to
see ninth and you would be correct in saying that, alright. One of
my additional trivia questions was what is the name of the headmaster in the Angelica
Button series? And then they say it like twenty times very stash, all
right. The original air date of The Whoreharde Couple was December tenth, two
thousand and six. It was written by Matt Salmon and directed by Chris Clements.
The cash gag Noise on a chalk Gate cash gag was Homer or Shiman's
Homer cuts a piece of paper into the shape of him, pulls it out
to reveal the rest of the family holding hands and says, we who.
So the episode kicks off with and we didn't touch on this aspect of the
story, but we're gonna do it now, obviously because it's where the episode
kicks off with Bart and Lisa wanting mom and dad in the morning. You
know you're drinking coffee now it's warm pepsi and they walk in. It sounds
like margin Homer are fighting, right, they've recorded this argument, but really
that's one a chance of snuggle. And I'm like, we're hitting that era
of our lives now where the kids are like at six o'clock we're getting out,
we want breakfast, And I'm like, fuck, have you never heard
of morning snuggles? Yeah, I'm just like, ah, like this morning,
honestly, God, Like, the kids are at my parents' place.
Nicholas sat him from work today show wasn't feeling well. I'm like, this
is lovely because Ali usually like sneaks in the middle of the night. I'm
just like, kid free bed, we're just hanging out, just relaxing,
letting it all hang out. Yeah, just this is great. Do it
with the door rope. But I just love the I'm not saying they did
it with the door Roe. Oh, I thought you might have been here.
But I just love the idea of you just love seeing margin Homer just
having this relationship. You know, they fight so often in season eighteen,
all these modern episodes, but it's nice when you see them just being nice
to each other, yes, and going to great length to have the chance
to snuggle. I just thought we might have to do this sometimes, recording
that fake fight with a great idea. Now the kids won't bother us during
I'm morning snuggle. Dear Lord, thank you for the physical intimacy we are
about to enjoy. And it's always have fun watching God of making it must
really kind of mess with people brought up in very religious households. It's like
God is always watching when I'm rocking it? What about what about when I'm
cranking? Yeah, it's seen as like is it a sin to do that?
Apparently? I don't think the Catholics are with it too bad, but
I'm a bad Catholic. They throw their clothes off and then knocks the tape
and starts playing the candy fan music, and this is where they walk in
and they see it. Well, yeah, it was some horse with no
name, wasn't it? Yes, ye, county fair music, and I
did. I've told you I went to a county fair in the in the
US when we were over there recently. It was great. Was it America
playing? No, it was actually Bob Marley's son, Damien. Oh wow,
not Ziggy. No, he is a Ziggy. I'm pretty sure Siggy
Marley is the one that's saying that Arthur theme song every day when you're walking
down the street. Oh and that TV show Arthur. I thought you were
talking about the movie Arthur. No, I know that's the kids show like
Arthur's Seamers when you Caught between the Moon and New York City. Yeah,
I know, yes, for that, which I mentioned in the Friends podcast
one about Friends. Check it out you haven't checked out there ready? Once
again a demonstration of the generation gap dividing dandel and Guy. Yeah, Arthur
for all Uninited Kids was one of those belover shows that it's like when I
was on, you loved it, but you never sort of went out of
your way to watch it, but apparently went for like thirteen seasons or something
else. Let me a look, have you ever seen this, Arthur kid,
I'm aware of the show. By the way, for all your generation
exit listeners, Arthur was, of course the movie starring Dudley Moore as the
lovable drunken billion Yeah. Also remade a little later on with Russell brandt our
first date Nichol and I was going to see the remake with Russell Brand.
Oh my god, okod that's Arthur. Do you ever see that? I'm
not seeing the show, but do you ever seen image? Yeah? Yeah,
because there's a great no glasses on the Little Girl? Oh yeah,
dj d W DW. Yeah. I don't know the show it on,
but I just saw this great screencap woods. Oh yes, the library card
on. I have a library hat. Now I know what true power is.
So I can relate after a fantastic show. That's great theme music and
Ziggy I believe Ziggy Marley was one of that saying theme song A right,
I said, Damian Marley. It was actually Stephen Marley. Stephen Marley,
Okay, isn't it? But the canfa was so good? I mean,
and did you get to have a dog of some kind? I had a
what were you call in Australia or dag would dog. I believe they call
on a corn dog corn do in the I'll tell you what you have given
me ship for not putting stuff on the patron page. There's a picture of
me about to enjoy a corn dog. It's in my phone. I'm gonna
put it on the patron page. It right now. I'm going to film
you doing it. This is going to be our weekly work. We'll get
a message. Here. We are guys reading his message instead of doing what
you're supposed to do. So, guys going to put a picture. Now,
hold up to the phone here, I'm filming this right for the patrons.
You're on camera, Candid, how you doing all right? This might
take it one. He's sitting there holding it about six feet from his eyes,
doing that doing the classic one hand. Scribn't know exactly where it is.
Okay, well you do this at some point. Just wave to the
camera as pushed up. Okay, on drinking, you're cranking it. Oh,
I mean look so happy here. This is great. Oh those were
the days she's so pretty sorry about. Later, we've got time of the
essence we're gonna get that's true. Yeah, I mean I rabbed it on
last one, but all right, going, let's keep talking. Yes,
let's keep talking. So yes, basically they've seen them doing it and it
didn't go down too well. So then the bar is now horrified. At
school, Trust me, Bart, it's better to walk in on both your
parents than I just one of them. Hey, Digs, give me your
lunch money, Well, what will I eat at midday? In primary school
had the issue of like lunch money, haven't look we just true like.
We occasionally would have Oh you do look happy? What is that? That's
a corn dog? A corn dog? Wow? Oe? Yeah cool?
Put up in the Patreon group. So when we were kids, the closest
thing we had to this was getting a lunch order d lunch orders where you
would write what you want on a paper bag, put it into like a
washing basket, and they would take it to the canteen and the kid would
return from lunch from the canteen with a washing basket full of like meals that
sounds rad I never had that two party pies, one sausage row and one
solace when dad would. I always brought my own life occasionally in my six
million dollar man lunchbox that I have alluded to the past. But we also
had the tuck drop at school where you would go usually at recess, and
it was like, how about it doing it or a sassage reel or something,
because you know, growing bodies need junk food. Yeah. Remember when
they used to have lollies and shits at school? Those were the day.
Oh my god. Yeah. It was when I was at high school that
they banned like coke and things like that, and I was like, what
are you doing? I certainly hope you. I just imagine you rock after
the head, but do what the fuck is this? And then we just
have to sneak down to the supermarket to get our chips and gravy in a
bottle of coke, you know. Oh yeah, of course you had to.
Jesus Christ look at it. One of the greatest inventions that I claim
this at my school anyway, because no one has at my school has done
it before. But you get a cheese and bacon roll, but then put
a hash used to cut it in half and toast them. Right, Yeah,
cheese bacon, but put a hash brown in it because they would butter
the cheese and bacon rolls before they put into the toaster oven. But you
buy a hash brown and put it in at the cheese and bacon roll squished
together. Oh dear Delicious, tell you what I love. It was a
good hash brown. Yeah, hash browns in cheese and bacon rolls even better.
It's very impressive. Alright, let's continue. And there's that point where
it became like an addiction because all the kids in the school are like eating
hat that like buy actually cheese and bacon rolls. They'd sell out, Like
you didn't get there early enough. They would sell out of cheese bacon rolls
because kids would like go there and spend ten bucks and buy all the cheese
and bacon rolls and hash browns and then sell them for more. But this
is obviously Nelson's taken his money. And then he invites him to his party.
Wants everyone to come to his party, so he's not a nice person,
but he also wants them to come to his party. And the sort
of the story of this episode is that Nelson just doesn't know how to socialize.
I guess, yeah, he's got poor social sills or he is.
He always goes to extreme again, where is his dad buying cigarettes and scratches?
No, but he came back. Remember, yeah, I know and
they just never it is never. It was never there again. I was
like, that was such a great character plot point. They never And I
brought this up with Matt. I was like, he's He's like, I
don't know, Like, what do you mean, I don't know. Yeah,
I think that was one of the best things you took away from your
Your time with Matt's alone was like, continuity doesn't mean ship. It was
just like, yeah, well he just did just did not care, done,
done, onto the next one. He's like, newity there fuity.
That explains a lot, man, but nobody wants to go he got He
makes his look at his baseball cards are not any good? And you have
no gift bags. I'm like that. He's like, Honestly, now that
I've got kids, the one thing kids appreciate the most at a birthday part
not the cake. It's the gift bags. So what's in the gift bags?
Usually some lollies to take it. It's usually lollies. Look, you
get like two dollars shop and buy like a bag of useless shit, you
know, little army man on dinosaurs, little little things where you're full of
like water and you push the buttons and the little rings go up. It's
useless shit. But it's like a kid's birthday party is judged not by what
happens during the party, it's by the gift bag. It's it's birthday,
but you get the presents. Yes, exactly right. Everyone's like if you
Ali went to a birthday party recently and they didn't have gift bags and the
kids went home mad, Oh my god, I gonna write like the kids
were like, what do you mean. I felt so bad for the parents,
the parent and the kid because the kids like my mama's gift badge're like
do you gift bags? And I was like, oh man, I was
like, Alliot Beach shut up. But all the kids were like they were
going to write, they were like, where are the gift bags? That
kid is probably just you know, the pariah from now. Honestly, if
you're ever going to live that down, if you're the parent of a kid
in primary school, make sure you provide gift bags. Do not forget gift
bags. Otherwise you know a lot of atomic wedgies in your child's future.
One hundred percent. Yeah, And so they say this is where we get
the the F word, which I feel bad and weird in't saying it,
but this, this was said in two thousand and six. I don't think
you would even make this joke anymore. Even though it's a real word,
it's just an uncomfortable word because because of how that real word was taken and
used in such a way. Yeah, that you just don't want to say
it anymore. That's true. Yeah, I'll plan a clip because the Simpsons
did us, because the Simpsons said it, not us. Wait, what
if nobody goes he can't kill all of us? He's right, individually,
we are weak like a single twist whatever bundle week form are mighty faggot.
And there we go. So Martin said that word, and we shall move
on. And in a nice bit of buck covering, they did provide the
dictionary dictionary definition. Yeah on the screen. Yeah. I wonder if Matt
someone wrote that and was like, take that piece. He kills it nice
when schooled, well played, well played. But no, hell no,
we won't show. They're all ranting and rave. They don't want to go
will He hears it and says, hell no we won't. Mo gets fired.
No pension, No, no pension at all. Lisa a Marche couple
I can't imagine the Penson would have been very good anyway, really, probably
not, but every little bit helps. Yep. Lisa and Marge, I
can't believe that Bart is organized for everyone not to go to Nelson's party.
They're like, how menant you think for Nelson? And it's almost like they're
playing on the history of because recently had Marge with like looking after Nelson and
Lisa once dated Nelson. It's like, if you're playing up that history,
you can't really ignore it in continuity for this episode as well. Correct with
Bart being friends of him and things like that. Yeah, because I think
that's what I meant because in that episode where he lived with the Simpsons,
he became friends with Bart when Bart sort of saw he saw him singing out
the window and it's like, oh shit, this kid. You know.
I think Bart was the one who went and found his dad. I believe
so, because he was at the Fair County there and he saw him at
the Freaks in the Freaks thing because he had all the peanuts. So I
was like, yeah, how do we forget that? But they forgot his
dad? His dad if a friend of the pod met Selman forgot about it,
exactly. I think it's okay for us to forget about it. Do
you think of marche smacking Bart? I was like, I was like,
wow, wouldn't spoon beating? But I kind of laughed because I was like,
wasn't a hit of just like wake up to year up? I'll do
it. But you know, if no one else would jump off, if
no one else jumped off the Empire State Building, would you not jump?
Can't I get Don't you love it when they like your You're two thirds into
one of those statements, You're like, this doesn't make sense, but I
have to go all the way. If I say with a conviction, hopefully
the underlying message will get through. Yeah. Yeah, Lisa says, you
don't worry, the party will be fun and you're never gonna get a husband.
Were being sarcastic. Okay, no husband, you're gonna get a husband.
That's just like such a marge thing to say. But Homer is not
driving Bart to the party, and he's giving Homer a backrob to try and
encourage him not to take him there, and trying to get himself out of
the party. But you still have to go whow We all have to do
things we don't want to like have jobs and families and responsibilities and having to
be mister funny all the time. You think I wouldn't rather be living nowd
in the forest like some ancient pagan, just dancing around playing the pan flute.
And here we are for something I've written Here is I wonder if a
few midlife crises happening in the writer's room at this time. It feels like
it, doesn't it it? Yeah, sure, and running for the Simpsons,
But no one told me life was gonna be this way. But they're
all by the way. Look, I'm sorry. I know you. You're
doing a special episode with Nick. Yeah, it's already available, but look,
I just personally want to give a shout because, yeah, it's going
to mean so much. But uh, we should probably have mentioned this on
last week's show. It's a little late now. I know. We did
do some magic editing, but we basically were recording this back to back so
that we explained it on last week's show that the patrons are our week ahead,
but this is actually been recorded on the first of November. Look,
it's a timeless message. Rest in peace, Matthew Perry. I dug you
a whole lot. Man, I thought you were just fantastic. Yeah,
I'm I'm sorry your demon's caught up to you, even though you didn't finish
reading his book. I never started. You've got it as a gift or
whatever, good for a free and you're like, I've got a chapter in.
I was like, I know what it's going to be. I think
I read a bit of it, and I'm that's one way of looking at
the gesture that I made. That's what you said. The other is,
I know you guys are into Friends, and particularly Nicola, I think we
know. We thank you numerous times on the podcast for the book. We
mentioned it during this special. Now I'm gonna start listening to that podcast.
That was like we got the book. I remember I said to Nicola,
yeah, I got to your present and then she was like oh. I
was like immediately, I was like, the guilt guy did it. It
wasn't me. He did everything. But yeah, Matthew Perry, as we
said on that on the Friends podcast, was that revisiting the show for the
podcast, it made me realize and appreciate just how much he brought to that
show. Oh god, yeah, I mean, in all honesty, he
was one of the best to ever do it in terms of sitcom acting,
the sarcastic humor percent Oh yeah, yeah, But I mean the guy was
like an absolute machine in terms of timing, in terms of inflection, in
terms of physicality. That's what Nicola brought up to, just his mannerisms and
the way he delivered everything. And yeah, and it's important, I asked
Nicola, of all the six main cast I'll ask you now, who do
you think has the longest legacy. Who do you think will live on forever?
And will You can say Matthew Perry now because he won't age. Will
always remember him as being young matt with fifty four year Matthew Pai. But
like Chandler esque, right, he's not gonna become like are you compared to
Paul McCartney. We remember John Lennon as being forty year old Johnlennon. He
didn't become eighty year old John Lyn. Pau McCartney has, right when when
he passes, you'll envision eighty year Oldau McCartney, not young Paul McCartney.
But who from that show, Like for example, people friends fans will say
things like, oh I was on a break and all that thing on a
break. But everyone, even if you don't watch Friends, says, could
I be anymore? That's become part of our life. Yeah, it's with
all due respectause, I mean it's an ensem that just works so well together,
right, Yeah, with all due respect to the other cast members,
I think the ones who are going to have the longest legacy are probably Perry
and h and Jennifer ands Andison because of her acting career. Yeah yeah,
I mean she's had real longevity and again in her way, not quite as
polished a performer as a comic reformer was Perry, but incredible comic chops and
incredible screen presence. She's really good. They're all really good. Yeah.
But yeah, I just wanted to give that quick shout out because as it
hit me hard, oh, because I was saying, very few celebrity deaths
hit me really really hard, but this one hit me hard. Yeah,
I mean, James Gandel Foeneie hit me very very hard, and so did
Philip Simoa Hoffman and the fe that was just about to sort of just rise
of and high and would just you know, keep going forever. You know,
you'd be happy to see the work of Gandalfini when he was seventy or
eighty, like what was Philip's lonro Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you
know, Matthew Perry is my age, was my age? Yeah, And
as someone who uses sarcastic humor as a defense and offense mechanism, yeah,
I really relate to the guy. Honestly, when I'm doing the podcast now,
I'm like, I am Chandler, Like I think many of us are
Chandler. We just didn't realize it. Yeah, yeah, so yeah,
because I think Charlie becomes the punching bag of the show where a lot of
people don't watch friends use his whips as his quips. I should say as
a oh it's too ridiculous and over the top. I can't. It's forced.
But like if you if you watch the show, probably like, no,
he's there's a real humanity underlying everything that he did, even when it
was heightened, and even when it was you know, yeah that like a
punchline or something like that. No, there was always the character of Chandler
being before there were that drove the gags as opposed to the other way around.
So yeah, I had a lot a lot of time for that guy.
I did back in the nineties, and I did to the to the
moment he died in all longest was he was my It was my favorite.
It was so nice that we got his book last year, absolutely, like
just in time, you know what I mean. And the fact that he
does the audio book as well. I'm like, isn't that just like such
a lovely fitting? It's a farewell now. We didn't realize it at the
time, but it's just so great that we have that now where he gets
it. He gets to tell us from his active his life. Absolutely,
it's not just something that people whipped up after he passed away. Absolutely,
yeah. Yeah. So sorry to sort of sidetrack a little bit and a
little bit late, but I would be remiss if I didn't give my man
a bit of a shout out and a bit of a tribute. So rest
in peace, Matthew Perry. But then arrives at the party and it's actually
an awesome setup. You know, do I hear dial toming because this party's
off the hook and Nelson clearly he's isn't that We all fear it when we
kids, when you put on a birthday party, it's like, oh God,
I hope everyone arrives and has a good time. I felt bad for
Nelson here, even though he's not being nice to everybody, and it's understandable
why people aren't there. It's like, I hate seeing people kids in particularly
in this situation where you're just like not embarrassed, but it's almost just like
so disappointed. It's a it's a weird it is embarrassment, but it's more
just like, ah, it's embarrassing. It's embarrassment disappointment. Yeah. And
it's a blend of the two, though, isn't it. Yeah? Very
much so. I mean naturally, I think, oh shit, what have
I done wrong? And then yeah, you know you're going to catastrophize and
think, oh, well I've done this wrong, on this wrong, on
this, on this wrong, on this wrong. Yep, And that's what
Bart points out to him. But you know, he said, he punches
the jumping castle, Spider Man arrives a quick nitpick. Yeah, where are
the other bullies? I thought they were? Is well? I was going
to bring that up later in the episode. It's just like, yeah,
so why weren't they there? Maybe they're off beaten up toddlers at the preschool,
he knows, But yeah, that aside you know, the Spider Man
guy arrives and you get ten minutes materials. Maybe we should come back a
little bit later, but Bart reveals nobody's coming. He doesn't actually come clean.
No, that he organized the boycott at Alder in the episode. That's
true. Oh yeah, I mean that would have been a nice resolution.
I thought I thought that was going to be so like now, how I
would have done this Nelson. He chooses Nelson over Millhouse, and then Millhouse
reveals to Nelson that he's the one. He's the reason we didn't come to
your party, and that's what splits up out of spite. That makes a
lot of sense. Get get your buddy, Matt's one on the phone.
We should be right in this show. How I would have done it?
Yeah, that's how we were done it, how it should have been done,
Matt. We can work over Zoom or Riverside preverably Zoom, but Riverside.
We love Riverside. Friend of the Pod, Riverside, Yeah, I
honestly do love Riverside guy. Don't worry about this guy. This man does
not represent us. Riverside a lot. I've appeared on numerous podcasts by which
I'm into using Riverside and it's great. But as he said, no one's
coming because but he blames Nelson. He's like, because you're a joke.
You know, you're a joke sometimes that's why. That's why nobody's coming.
And he says, well, you know, you have a friend with me.
So they basically they enjoyed the party. It's just the two of them,
and I enjoyed them having a good time beating up doctor Octopus. Is
there is there a worse gig than children's party entertainer? It depends on how
the kids behave, Like if you're there to be a punching bay, yes,
but if you're there like magician doing tricks. I went to a birthday
party last November and there was a magician doing tricks and I was like,
oh, dig you down, these are some fucking cool tricks. And the
kids were hope. He said that there's a budget. The kids were in
awe and they were going along with it. I was like, apparently,
I asked mother, I'm like, how much did this guy get paid?
That was twenty minutes, four hundred dollars. I'm like, that is the
easiest money this guy make. God, yeah, it's probably gone on YouTube
learn some learn some close up magic or something. Yeah, oh that's rare.
Yeah. There was actually a magician on this week's episode of Have You
Been Paying Attention? Right? He was like the a new magician entrepreneur,
like extraordinary from Australia, and like his trick was that he had the host,
what's his name, Tom Glass? Tom Glass, uh, put a
card into a book and then anywhere in the book right, And he held
it out and said, now, what page number is it? Right?
And Tom says one eighty three, and then all this other shit happened,
and it was like basically there was a jar of jelly beans over on the
jar over on Sam Pang's desk, and he lifted it up and it was
had one on three under the lid. And I was like, yeah,
but didn't you just go to Tom before the show and say say it's page
one three? Because they didn't show us what page it was. It was
just we had to go by Tom's word. And I'm like, this is
a pretty shitty. This is no child's birthday parting magician. No, no
at all was it was like fantastic Dan or something. I was like,
I went even my birthday party that's a dope name. Fantastic Dan. I
make sure it's right fantastic. We don't give me an actual proper shading,
because I was like this magic is fucking yeah, doves and everything, you'd
live animals, but just yard, I mean, I must have meant we're
dazzling Dan. Dazzling Dan the Magic Man. Okay, yeah, that's pretty
good geelong magician and illusionist. Yeah, gelo, it was legitimate. I
was like, oh, I'm so hopefully he's got a YouTube chanurnealist. He's
got he's got pages. Yeah, check it a dzzling Dan the Magic Man.
But anyway, getting back to entertainment, so doc, ok here we
turned on your birthday presents and whole work. And but Nelson it's beat Hi
Matt and then they beat up the pinarda spidy dog. It is sitting there
chilling with Homer and Nelson's mum just enjoying. The kids joined themselves at Lisa
then asked Bart how the party was. He says, no, I had
a great time. He thinks it's all over with Nelson, and look I
went there having a good time. I was polite to him. But now
we're gonna go back to normality. But unfortunately Nelson now greets him on the
bus and treating him like a best friend, and I was just like the
anything for me here was like, I get why you wouldn't want anyone everyone
to know that you went to the party because you want to instigate it the
whole thing. But having Nelsons your friend is probably going to have more positives
than negatives, as we would soon see. So why are you embarrassed by
this? I guess it runs cams to everything. I mean, all the
lead up to the boycott and everything like that. Yeah, I mean,
but was kind of the ring leader of that. So it's gonna look a
little hypocritical and a little um or that he's just a coward in front of
all these other people on the bus. Yeah. True. But Nelson gives
Bart an entire case of pulky chalk and passes, look, I don't have
time for new friends. I've got all this other stuff to do. By
when he's doing that, he bumps into Jim Bow and Nelson saves him from
the bullies, and where he realized, oh shit, it's actually gonna have
its perks. You know, I forgot how cool Bart was, and Bart
say's got because someone's smaller and weaker. So they say they're gonna go whale
on some toddlers whilst they're napping. Then we have so this again Marge flooting
with Homer here. I was like, but there's a line he so he
says marital sex, right, and he goes to uh speed up bedtime?
And I was like, I have never led it to home this moment.
But he's like, she smells like coconut. I was just like, this
is life bedtime with children because soon it's bedtime for adults. Yes, but
honestly, anyone who is a parent of small kids has experienced this moment,
especially if the other day was just like I'll see in the bedroom. It's
like kids, bed Now, read your fucking books quick. You're not dressed,
get into bed. Only who when you're done putting Lisa to bed,
we can finish what we started the other day. Whoa marital sex? Okay?
Tight, classic water laid, no barniles, don't do drugs? Love
you good night? Dad? Can't you read me a story for a little
bit? Would your mother smells like coconut? Okay, sweetie? Which book
should I read? Angelica? Button and the Dragon King's trendle Bed. It's
the ninth book in the Angelica Button series. Oh yeah, this is that
fantasy book that even grown ups like broken lonely grown ups. Chapter one,
the ruby Stone in the door portal. Are you asleep yet? No?
Sovery then raids the store and he loves it, and to the point where
he wants to keep reading, but Lisa wants to go to sleep. He
wants to read a head She says, no, you gotta read it with
me. He tries to get it, but she's holding onto the book.
She went let him. Then we have Nelson and bat and they're at school
or they're on top of the school actually making fun of the sunset, and
sunt I thought, yeah, I'm pretty sure it says sunset, because it'd
be weird to be there in the morning, right, you'd be more gonn
to be there in the afternoon. The morning, wouldn't get it? I
think you would be there closer to sun ris than sunset. Why would they
want to go to Why would they get up early to watch the sunrise because
it's beautiful? I don't know. Would you either five thirty in the afternoon
or fucking five am? I don't know. I mean part of me wants
to be a morning person. Like an early morning person. I love.
I love when you wake up with it's like no cars around, magpies are
out squawking, your crow buddies are out there. Yeah. But but then
he says to Nelson, here, do you ever wish that you weren't a
bully? He's like, no, I have to. You know, the
shark can't strom they blow up, you know, I have to be a
bully, and it gives him his own Nelson vests and the sleeves were torn
off, torn off by a wild dogs. Another song rebel, He's a
rebel. Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah. And they really fucked out
money for the for the rights of this season, haven't they so far.
I've gone wild with the soundtracks. Yeah, I mean what the last episode
was like, Missy Elliott and yeah you get your freaked on and money for
nostraates and money for nothing, Yeah, money for nothing, and that song
will not come cheap. That is certainly true. And also Jack MANDIONI feel
so good, yeah, as opposed to who's saying he's so good. John
Mellencamp, John Cougar, Melon Cougar Mellencamp. Yeah, because it was.
It was for a while he was Johnny Cougar. Yeah, I think it
was John Cougar Mellencamp. And I don't know if he is still John Cougar
Mellencamp or he's just John Mellencamp these days. He's so good. Is a
banger, it's really good. Come on baby. But it's just a really
cool point of view shot here of getting all the perks like our Good Fellows,
like you were saying yes, and it's Bart doing like the voiceover over
the top, even though so the to the point, even at the end
it's a freeze frame, isn't there there is yeah, which I believe is
Good Fellows has got to share a freeze frames. So yeah. Homer then
arrives at at home and Marge's annoy because Lisa's not there, because he's looking
for Lisa to read the book. She's that Janie's because her mum makes a
good mac and cheese. Never ever ever tell your mum that someone else's mom
makes a better version of something. They will never forget it. I remember
once I've told my mum that someone made a better spaghetti, and she still
reminds me to this day. Oh my god, don't do it, and
never tell your wife that you prefer your mum's cooking your hairs. Oh god,
you're really You're in a trap, there, aren't you. You're in
a real bind. Yeah, because my mom, like, I'm gonna throw
that makes the best roast. Rive. Everyone's mum make the best roast.
Rid. It's the roast that you grew up with everyone and mum's roast.
But everyone always wants my mum to make the roast beef for Christmas right when
she's cooking the rost, because she does it the best. And Nicola tried
cooking it at once, and I was like, in my head, this
isn't as good as your mum's. But do not tell her. She knows.
She knows. Do not bring it up. It's pretty obvious. Yeah,
this isn't chewy, honey, this is great. But I've mentioned this
before on the podcast. If I don't acknowledge the food, Nichola will say
it's not bad. I'm like, yeah, it's good. She knows if
I'm not enjoying it, if I don't say how good it is. So
now I'm just like in my head, whether you like it, or not.
Just compliment the food. Always say, always compliment the food. You
and I are both very fortunate. Yeah, everything that our significant others make
is pretty delicious. So I went for fib including the love. Let's move
on, I very rarely say, guy flustered, Homer home. You must
read ahead. Fiction is your passion, Lady, You're nice, but I'm
married. Just read the book you shaved ape. Oh I can't read ahead,
I promised Lisa, I wouldn't just take a peek at the title of
the next chapter and see if you can resist an unexpected occurrence? What could
it be? We hooked him gallahead. Yeah, kind you've won. So
many shows now are made with a cliffhanger ending at the episode. It used
to happen occasionally, but like back in the day, there wasn't as much
choice, and I was like, you know, you just knew the people
were going to tune in the following week bin shows. Now it's like every
episode has to end with a cliffhanger. Yeah, it used to be just
like you have a standline episode like you guys back next week. It's all
good. Yeah, yeah, but I feel like now with the binge mentality,
do you think the fangers are required because you just know it's like,
then i't have to wait that extra week they get if the play next episode
starts by time they got off the cash, you're just going to watch the
next episode anyway. You know, if you've got on watching to the end,
they're probably going to watch the next one because mentality, Now, if
you don't like a show, you're not going to watch a whole episode.
Yeah, I'd say that's true. Our attention spans don't last. Well,
it's like we give it ten minutes, we're not we're not enjoying it within
ten fifty minutes. We'll just put something else on. If you've gone the
entire way, you're probably going to watch the next episode. Well, they're
doing half the work for us. It's like and also, you know,
Netflix especially is letting you know very kindly. It's like two more episodes to
go. There's a shitty though when it starts playing the next one because you
can't find the mark, like I do want to watch the next one now
it started up. That's true. I mean the times like no, I
want to watch the crid Yeah, who played so and so? Yeah that's
it? Yeah, yeah, something happening during the credits and then just like
in the small scom like, what is this? What are you doing?
What are you talking about? Milhouse then asked Bart, you know, why
are you hanging out with Nelson? Oh? Actually no, have we got
that part? Yeah? Yeah, he spoils the greast ash for the white
guy Millhouse and Bart and then asking, actually, before we get there,
why is Marginal wanting the bank? Now? This is that chance, Lisa.
Is all the house bars not in the house. Why they're banging women?
Amateurs? Who understands them? Milhouse? And I said, he asked
why you're hanging out with Nelson? And he calls him a bully. He
doesn't like him using the bully word, but then he says other boys can
use it. Yeah. He calls Bart a sidekick and that gets him going.
But then they go and fly kites, you know, and nothing sees
it gets angry and breaks see Captain's leg. Yeah, it was really unusual.
It's really weird. It wasn't like it was a joke, it was
just he stabs his leg. Yeah. I was expecting that. When it
went the next scene, I was like, is he going to be branching
the legs as like weapons or something. Nothing. No, But then,
so did you know that red and blue are the colors of friendship? I
did not know. I wasn't aware. But I'll make sure your birthday present
next time is blue and or red, Thanks very much. Yeah, arrives,
he's getting a demon's jumper, but arrives late to Nelson's house and he's
waiting all this time to smash the FuG and I was like, this is
the aspect of Nelson that I don't like killing animals? Yeah, Like,
there was the episode but the Mother where Nelson wanted him to kill the bird
and but deliberately tries to miss, but I had a crooked sight and he
kills the bird. I'm like, there's always been an element of being cruel
to animals and story right, So it rained when I was picking the kids
up from daycad the other day, and for some reasonut it rains, all
the snails come out on the footpath on walking into their daycare, and I
was like, what are you doing, guys? You stand no chance like
walking on the entrance way. So I was trying to pick up these snails
and moving across and I'm like, oh, you a fucking people. Look
at me. Funny, I'm moving these snaps. I know the kid's gonna
stand on them. And I went into the daycare and they had a tub
that snails are called into and kids are just picking the snails up and dropping.
I'm like, I like yelled a little it. I was like,
oh, yeah, stop, I try to teach these kids that snails are
actually animals. It's like they couldn't compute. And I'm like to the teacher,
I was like, he letting the people. I told them to be
gentlemen, but they're not being gentitle I'm like, how about you don't let
them. I can hurt these snails, like it's just I get it,
it's just a snail, but I'm like, it's a living organ. I'm
like, how about you teach the kids that these are actually animals. She's
like, ah yeah, I'm just like the fuck is wrong with me.
You're probably the person to put crazy frog on. But it bothered me seeing
these kids just picking up these snails and just like throwing them and dropping all
like, is that animals? Oh? Like I'm I can send myself a
terrible softy because whenever, yeah, as you said, when the rain happens,
the snails come out, and I'll have an occasion when I'm like I've
gotten home and walking to my to my back door or whatever. It's God,
damn the stuff, damn snails. I feel so bad. It's like
I tore his house down, Yeah, on a rainy night. Yeah,
but these kids were just like picking them up and throwing them and it made
me so angry. Yeah. But apparently the frog peede in Nelson's hands,
so he got his come uppins. But then says that he was stealing with
these grapes. But Nowson proves that he wasn't because he showed the photos that
he took on his digital camera dated when we took photos on cameras. Do
you still have a digital camera flying couple in the cupboard? Yeah, yeah,
I've got I've got one, and I'm like, this is such a
nice piece of tech. I don't want to throw it away. You've mentioned
this before, but now I'm just like, your phone does the same thing,
but your phone probably doesn't. Or you got a new phone, didn't
you? I did? Yeah, yeah, except I don't know how much
of an upgrade. What do you get it's another Samsung? What one though
it's an A something and I probably had an S model you gone backwards?
I have, but I thought I don't know. I mean, I think
I was looking at the numbers rather than the letters. Okay, yeah,
but something I discovered it was this doesn't wireless chart. Did you get it
from the crime market? No, like got it from a man. And
you want the A twenty one, not the S twenty one. I've got
a man of very nice van. You're late. I was waiting to smash
this frog with you and it beeeding my hand. Sorry, I was stealing
loose grapes at the grocery store. Really you call this stealing loose grapes.
We were just having fun. Don't get upset, Oh right, stupid Nelson
always gets upset. He'll probably do something stupid like smash his own camera.
Look what you made me do? I know? Say get in here.
The cat's eyes are running. I needed at durbum coming ma, see you
later, lying Trader. Something in your eye, mister mooch, Well do
something in my eye? Doo ma, what happened to the curtains? I
made him into a dress for a karaoke singing, Hey buck, you want
some ice? Cream. I just hit a major marshmallow vad. I think
it goes all the way to the bottom. No things, what's wrong?
Me and Nelson were best friends and now I think he's gonna kill me.
Puly problem. Hey, you know what they say, Oh, bullies are
cowards. It's not true. They're brave because they're strong. Then Lisa offers
Bart mycecream. You were touched on that earlier, but he's too worried to
eat. You know, he's worried about Nelson. Grandpa just brings up a
random story. It's kind of like Homer's I like stories. It's just like,
bullies are brave because they're strong. It's not even a really a joke.
Then no, but Nelson is now list the jokes like, oh,
you know, everyone says bullies are actually cowards, but Grandpa's been a contrarian.
Yeah, forget it. Nelson is now hiding in Bart's locker, and
there are a couple of members in this episode where it's just like he is
like that crazy X where it's like you think he's going to be angry.
Then he's just like, oh but I'm really really sorry. But but it's
like I can't read you crazy. Yeah, so I can't be with you.
It's going to be this much work. And when Bart caught him out
for he's like, you're fucking mad man. I don't want to be your
friend with anyone, like you're in the locker, but what are you doing
crazy? Even like Skinner and charm has want nothing to do with it.
It's best of we don't get involved. Meanwhile, Homer is crying over Gray
Stash is a sign photo himself at Lisa is excited. You know, we're
going to finish his book now. And you know what would how would you
feel if Gray Stash died of the day my childhood ended? And I was
just like, yeah, this is sad. I feel like the Sanda thing
for me. That kind of felt like when my childhood ended, when do
you think your child? Can you remember a moment you just sort of realized
nothing's the same anymore. I remember that that day thinking life isn't how I
thought it was anymore. Because you're angry that you felt you'd be lied to,
but you just he disappointed that it's not a thing. This one wasn't
a childhood thing so much, okay, more like a very very early adolescence
thing, because I mean, I mean, I think I knew from an
early heads like I think Mum and Dad might be Santa. It's all right,
you got no problem with that. Likewise, easter budding and tooth theory,
it's all good. But I think you know, it's probably about maybe
eleven or twelve, and you know, people are growing up at different rates,
and you know, as we I think we said earlier, sort of
the social dynam makes ever changing. It's going to like sand beneath your feet.
And I think there occasions when someone that you thought was your friend would
sort of like go related this episode, would go off with someone else.
It's kind of like, wait a minute, well we're not friendzy, what's
going on? Yeah, my male. I was probably overreacting, but I
remember thinking, oh gosh, I'm gonna have there's a bit more to this
life thing that I thought there was only going to be cool and hanging out
with my own what are you talking about, white male? But tends out
to be one of the great joys in life, it does, indeed.
Yeah. But yeah, so I just as I was touching on earlier,
I just hope I just loved that Homer was just like thinking for Lisa here.
You know you in no way was being self just like they've trained us
to think that I was going to do something stupid and wrong and selfish.
Yes, yeah, and you're shocked when he doesn't. That's that's not a
good thing. No, it's not at all. How would you feel if
something bad happened to Greastash? It would be the day my childhood anger come.
I read Angelica was trapped in the stuff o'clock of sandy doom. Time
to choose, Graistash. If you save Angelica, you die. Where are
you stopping? Where almost at the happy ending? No book is gonna make
my daughter said, Time to do what I do best, lie to a
child. Gray Stash looked crumped right in the eye and said, mustache power
exhibs. Oh man, I can't believe you beat me, but you did.
I somehow escaped from the eye glass and now to go on living the
end? Is that really how it ends? What happened to the Mollinical Council.
They went to star Wars Land and fought star Wars. God, you
can read to me anytime now. Lisa won't know about death till it strikes
someone close to her. God's ending is better. It was a really nice
way to wrap that up, wasn't it. I think so, yeah,
that's almost like the little secret she's willing. He was going along with something
and she's going along with her little charade. But everyone's happier as a result.
He thinks it's not a good thing. I just liked it. Now,
the field trip at the tidepools, this has felt like a really random
add on. Yeah. Well they'd run out of that. They realized that
hadn't gone long enough, and it's just like, ah, I guess you
need to I guess we need to wrap up this storyline with Button Nelson,
and maybe we need to introduce some perils. So much happened so quickly.
Yeah, so they almost drowned in the ocean, and then like oh that
almos a rescue and then octopus and there's a dead diver and yeahs so basically
basically they're the tire pools and Nelson picks Bart as his buddy, takeshim away
from everybody else and it again, he takes him into like a cave.
He's like, you're a bad friend, you know you and your like that
I protected you and then but I was like no, you're fucking weird.
You act all nice and you get all crazy of there's something not right there,
and he explains, I've never had a best friend before. And then
all of a sudden they're nearly drowning, and as he said, the octopus,
he steals a diver's yeah snork or whatever. The driver dies, octiples
then steals the snorkel. But then they pass out and they wake up,
And that's like a bit of a Lord of the Rings tribute as well,
when I think when at the end of the first one, if you haven't
seen the first one, yeah, yeah, when Sam Wise falls out of
the boat or he chases him and he's nearly drowning, and then Frodo sort
of like reached then grabbs him, pulls him out. It's the first one.
Yeah, at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring. Okay,
okay, you can't swim. Oh no, and then he rescues him and
all that's right, yes, yes, then yeah, So basically Nelson never
wake up because he never passed out, and he says, no, you're
nothing to me now, you're just bafed to me. So bat then has
a bit of reminiscing back in his bedroom. He grubs out the vests and
says, I never forget the wheat we had we were best friends, and
Nelson rides past saying, ha ha, I touched your heart and that is
the end. And it's also a bit of a brokeback mountain shout out with
the picture. Yeah, yeah, the shirt hanging up and the picture is
very much a brokeback mountain shout out. So okay, I don't know.
Maybe that's trying to counteract some of the weak ass gay eggs that they had
before that, you know, with the whole manmouth kind of deal. Yeah,
but you know, this is what two thousand and six, two thousand
and seven, such things were in vogue, particularly at Simson's HQ. And
then over the credits, I'm assuming we got here a deleted scene. It
feels that way, doesn't it. Yeah, just being sad about Gray Stash
and crying at Moe's and them saying, don't worry about it's a character,
and don't you say his name is he's naming your mouth sounds like dirt,
and no measould ever Outlivey's fictional wizard. So I feel like this would have
been a scene that they probably put in. But it's like, if you're
gonna put it in the credits, why do just put it into the actual
episode? That would make sense. Why add these deleted scenes in the credits?
Just put them in where they were? I agree with you on this
point. Anyway, what do we learn bomb? What you learn from the
episode with the Davis that the name for a bundle of sticks is a yes?
Indeed, I learned that no men should Outlivey's fictional wizard. That makes
sense. Forward, your name will be all right? It's time for the
Guy Davis New Name Championship. Round eight four of this week. We have
the current leader boards standing at in first position, we have Carl Molden on
eight points, Luck McKay on seven points, and Philip J. Hawkins on
five. Take it away. One point goes to a vested development. Ooh,
that is David Mott. Well, I'm David. Is that his first
points? That is not his first points? And that puts David Mott on
three points? Well on David Motzki two points four the Bully Guard. He's
back. Philip J. Hawkins hawk Yes, why he is now on seven
points while I'm in second position and three points goes to full Nelson. Ah,
he's done it again. Look I am your leader. He is,
indeed, he is the leader now outright. He's got three points there,
which puts him in first position on ten points. So now he's gone from
second to first. Luke McKay's on ten, Carl mahle dooing bumped down to
second position on eight, and Philip J. Klawn up there on seven points
in third. What a fascinating race. I guess it's so exciting. It's
very, very exciting. Indeed, when we parted the championship, just going
to be a support of ours on it. Patrio, Let's get into some
male bad questions, bad questions. Bail is here. Harrison mccluel says,
have you guys ever been disappointed or saddened by the ending of a book,
TV show or film. He believes the How I Met Your Mother ended ending
was awful. Hmm. I remember being really disappointed with the ending of Sons
of Anarchy. Oh yeah, I don't want to say what happened. It
was almost like a while ago, but I don't know, I ways spoil
it, but basically the end the story that you were watching for ended in
like the second last episode and the last one was just sort of tread like
like a wrap up, and I was just like, ah, I don't
care anymore. There's so many shows that that would do that, though.
I mean, I remember Game of Thrones did a bit. I mean not
talking about the very very ending, but you'd watch a season and then the
second last episode would usually be like the huge battle, and then the episode
after that, the final episode of the season would be after math of the
last battle and sort of setting the pieces for the next season. Yeah,
yeah, it's like okay, yeah, it would usually be a lot more
subdued and quiet. I remember. I think they did that on a couple
of other shows, maybe on Breaking Bad, certainly a mad Men, I
think they did that as well. I feel bad. I don't really remember
that many sort of finales that that let me down, that disappointed me.
I don't I remember being at the end of season one of Your Honor,
I mean, like, you can't fucking possibly end it this way. Have
you seen Your Honor? I started it but didn't finish it. Okay,
we watched the second season and it was all right, but it's just like
on that first season ending, going I feel so empty inside. Oh,
it's just and I was angry how it ended. It's just like I don't
watch it to be feeling bad. I'll tell you what. Actually, there
was something about the mist oh no, oh yeah, a little bit.
Yeah, I mean we talked about this when we did our movie guys think
of the fog, Yeah, and how the twist at the end. I
felt really sad. I was like, oh man, I felt really sad,
of course, but also kind of like there's a very traumatic incident that
happens and then almost instantly, it's like something that could have resolved, yeah,
renders that. Yeah, And it's like if I was making it,
I would have had like a bit of a gap. I would have had
him sitting in the car and like bemoaning, and then like an hour would
have gone past or something. But for it happened instantly, Like that's kind
of like this is almost too much of a end of a sitcom episode,
didn't it a little bit? Yeah? Yeah. I was thinking of something
that disappointed me recently. It was the Across the Spider Verse. I believe
it's it's the follow up to Endo the Spider Verse, and I think I
knew going in it was like, oh, yeah, this is going to
be a two part but yeah it got to the end, I'm like,
oh, okay, yeah, I know we're gonna have to wait a while
for the for the rest, but it's like this just yeah, this felt
like you've have you not learned? We don't have patience anymore? That's correct,
Yeah, we need patience and I don't have. Right. A couple
more questions we have here, George of power not a question per se,
Well, thank you, George, I asked for a question. But I
love the subplot of this episode. My mum read me Harry Potter as a
kid, and turns out was reading ahead after I fell asleep, just like
Homer had. My mum and I have always bonded over the Simpsons, and
so to have them put forward this story which has happened to us is always
something that I adored, Gray Stash. It is nice when things happening in
your real life. For me, when I like I watched the the the
Homer with the rush rushing the bedtime, I was like, this happened.
But for me the most was like in March being not proud when Barke gets
caught stealing right. I've said how I got caught trying to slip that Disney
Adventures book into the TV guide and Mom was just like so disappointed. I
was like, whenever I watched Marge being proud, I'm like, this is
what happened, as I have such a connection with that episode. Andrew jpr
Man, what's the no what's your favorite fictional book series? These aren't that
well known, but I enjoyed all of them. The Wicked series from the
nineties, Yeah, I love those Wicked ones. Was it Paul Jennings did
Wicked? I think so. Yeah. There's a writer and like named Charlie
Houston. He's written all kinds of novels and comic books and other things like
that, but he did a series of novels based around this character named Joe
Pitt who became he was sort of a low level, big city tough guy
who got turned into a vampire and yeah sort of then worked as a freelance
enforcer slash private detective in the supernatural world. And Charlie wrote like five of
the Joe Pitt novels. I've read them all and I think they're really really
good. I was waiting for someone to turn them into equally cool movies or
a like Netflix series. So yeah, I think it starts with one called
Already Dead, and there's like five of them. That's a cool name for
like an eighties I Already Dead. What would be on the cover or the
poster for that Already Dead? I imagine you've got sort of a black and
white image of Joe Pitt himself. I saw as being played by Colin Farrell,
but it could be anyone and there's a dash of red in there or
something he's like holding a steak or something that's got blood on. Everything else
is black and white, but you've got a dash of red in there.
You go it? Would it be what they call it when it's like it
moves? Oh yeahicular? Because someone brought up on have you been paying attention
last night? The Jack Frost movie from the nineties, This is the Killer
Snowman? Oh yeah? And that had a lenticular As a kid, I
was like, nothing, look scary. Our timelines all out of whack because
we're recording two episodes back in the back. But as we record this,
last night was Halloween, and obviously it was last week and have you been
paying attention that last night? But I was over at my good buddy,
Steve's big Halloween guy. And as I was opening the door to help him
out and handing out trick or trick gifts, gift bags, gift bag,
see gift bags, all other gift bags. Kids love a gift bag.
There was a one of those lenticular pictures behind behind me that had oh,
it's a picture of an it's an old picture of a lady from like the
nineteen twenties or something like that. Then you look at the other way,
Ah, she's a vampire. And some of the kids who would see that
go, oh my god, that's such good picture. I want to go
all that. Next year, I was seeing how much enjoyment the kids were
having. I was like, it's finally happening. Halloween's happening. Yeah,
