<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game This Mornings with Me. Jeff Greb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for
<v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking about
<v Speaker 1>people looking for a reason to believe and yet another
<v Speaker 1>direct and HBO is going to make a Boulder's Gate
<v Speaker 1>three sequel series. What It's gonna be a good one
<v Speaker 1>because we have John Martin on the show. John, how
<v Speaker 1>are you doing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm doing well. Thank you for having me. I'm very
<v Speaker 2>excited to be back.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely glad. We can make it happen. I I will
<v Speaker 1>just you know, I'll just say, now, they're going to
<v Speaker 1>kill that poor boy, Kenneth Shepherd over at Kotaki with
<v Speaker 1>this stuff. We're all worried about you. Kenneth. You stay strong.
<v Speaker 1>I know you're not gonna be able to avert your
<v Speaker 1>eyes from this train wreck of what's happening with Bowlderskate
<v Speaker 1>three h but you just you stay strong, you do
<v Speaker 1>the reporting, and you just treat it like anything else.
<v Speaker 1>You're gonna survive this, I promise you. Yeah said at
<v Speaker 1>a lot of strong reactions to that news. We'll get
<v Speaker 1>it and get into it here in a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, how you been. You've been playing anything fun? Well,
<v Speaker 1>you've been up to since the last time we talked.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean I've been snowed in. I went to
<v Speaker 2>Disney and Universal and just playing a lot of games
<v Speaker 2>right now. Yeah, that was fun. Been doing a lot
<v Speaker 2>of like backlog gaming. Later today, I'm going to try
<v Speaker 2>to be finishing Yoshi's Island for the first time World
<v Speaker 2>multiple times. But yeah, no, that game is every level
<v Speaker 2>is just a treat and it's just so so good,
<v Speaker 2>and I love that the art style is great. I'm
<v Speaker 2>very much looking forward to that. Getting ready to start
<v Speaker 2>a balders Gate three playthrough. I've never gotten through a
<v Speaker 2>full campaign, so that's so we'll see what, like what
<v Speaker 2>I think about this news, But yeah, just playing a
<v Speaker 2>lot of different games. How is how? How is How's
<v Speaker 2>Sectory going right now? I don't know if I should there,
<v Speaker 2>but I am curious.
<v Speaker 1>It's going pretty well. Every time I started up in
<v Speaker 1>play right now, I do get into like a new
<v Speaker 1>high score, and I'm always like, that was a bad run.
<v Speaker 1>That was a bad run, and I still did a
<v Speaker 1>new high score. So I'm kind of just waiting for
<v Speaker 1>the RNG to line up in my favor. A little bit.
<v Speaker 1>There's a handful of things so it could be more favorable,
<v Speaker 1>Like if you get the certain more difficult bosses earlier on,
<v Speaker 1>so they're in a more easy form instead of like
<v Speaker 1>their level four form or whatever. That helps a lot.
<v Speaker 1>That said, I got the hardest boss on the hardest
<v Speaker 1>difficulty and was like basically one shot away from defeating him.
<v Speaker 1>And that is the one that was my most recent
<v Speaker 1>really good run where I got sixteen million points. Now
<v Speaker 1>still two million behind Jacob Geller, but we're right there,
<v Speaker 1>and I could see I think if I would have
<v Speaker 1>beat that boss, there was a chance with all the bonuses,
<v Speaker 1>I might have been able to catch up with him.
<v Speaker 1>It would have been close. But I'm still really enjoying it,
<v Speaker 1>still really good. I'm trying to play other games now though,
<v Speaker 1>I am trying to like mix in some other things. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm trying not to be, you know, a one issue
<v Speaker 1>gamer right now. But yeah, it's going well. I'm enjoyed it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>when you said you were at Disney, what was the
<v Speaker 1>weather like when you were there? Was it cool? Like
<v Speaker 1>I can't imagine it being kind of cold at Disney.
<v Speaker 1>That would be kind of awesome.
<v Speaker 2>It kind of was actually, yeah, it was like for
<v Speaker 2>the most part, it was like kind of in the mornings,
<v Speaker 2>it was like forty fifty degrees. It never got higher
<v Speaker 2>than like sixty nine, I want to say. And that's
<v Speaker 2>not even a joke, that's like, legit, what my thermist
<v Speaker 2>I was telling the first thing in the morning. But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it is definitely like one of the better times ago.
<v Speaker 2>There's not many crowds. You get to do everything that
<v Speaker 2>everyone in your party wants to see, and yeah, it's
<v Speaker 2>just a good time. Just trying to escape from it all.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, good time. I walked like four marathons, so
<v Speaker 2>that's cool. Always good to keep the health up. But yeah, man,
<v Speaker 2>that's good. I'm just glad to be back.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, glad to have you back. On. Let's do some
<v Speaker 1>quick housekeeping real quick, everybody, the Mugenics. Quick look, it's
<v Speaker 1>a quick look. Ex We have the debon to talk
<v Speaker 1>about the game that's up on the site. Now go
<v Speaker 1>watch that. Mike and Dan tagged that and did a
<v Speaker 1>great job. It's worth watching, especially since that game's doing
<v Speaker 1>really well. We'll talk about that as our first story.
<v Speaker 1>How the reviews are coming in for that. Also, the
<v Speaker 1>Neo three Quick Look with Kayla. She helped out with that.
<v Speaker 1>You guys should go watch that as well, and then
<v Speaker 1>there's gonna be a bunch of more stuff popping off
<v Speaker 1>in the next week or so, more quick looks and
<v Speaker 1>some more stuff for premium users. There was a new
<v Speaker 1>grub Snacks premium go watch that as well. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's explain ourselves. We're Giant Bomb, we're independent video games media.

<v Speaker 1>help you you your gaming life back together. That includes
<v Speaker 1>breaking news and maybe even some of our own original reporting.
<v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a

<v Speaker 1>you are watching live on twitch welcome, You can always

<v Speaker 1>for game Mes Mornings or fine the RSS feed on
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com. You can also catch the show
<v Speaker 1>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right,
<v Speaker 1>we have a lot to get into, so let's start
<v Speaker 1>the morning mess with those aforementioned Eugenics reviews. It's got
<v Speaker 1>a ninety on Metacritic on open credit, I should say,
<v Speaker 1>and yes, John, I did get it in Fantasy Critic.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you for asking.
<v Speaker 2>That was actually yeah, top of my list.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I to go with the second pick.
<v Speaker 1>With my second pick and I had the two back
<v Speaker 1>to backs, I chose last. So it's like I felt
<v Speaker 1>pretty good with that kind of hearing good things so
<v Speaker 1>little inside information, but I had barely touched it at
<v Speaker 1>that point, and everyone else I was playing against they
<v Speaker 1>knew it was good as well, so I just made
<v Speaker 1>the right pick. It has a ninety two out of
<v Speaker 1>one hundred from Robin Valentine at PC Gamer. A sprawling, ridiculous,
<v Speaker 1>and endlessly surprising roguelike that will drag your body and
<v Speaker 1>soul into its chaotic world. Nine out of ten from
<v Speaker 1>Dan Stapleton over at IGN. Dan says it that Mugenics
<v Speaker 1>is a fantastic tactical RPG that's good for more than
<v Speaker 1>one hundred hours of roguelike runs. Just when you think
<v Speaker 1>you have figured it out, it'll throw something completely unexpected
<v Speaker 1>and hilariously gross at you, and probably a catchy new
<v Speaker 1>original song too. And then four point five stars from
<v Speaker 1>Allie Jones at games Radar, who says, and this is
<v Speaker 1>a thing I think some people will have some concerns
<v Speaker 1>about because it has that ed McMillan's style. Is that
<v Speaker 1>for you or not? Well, Ali says the gross out
<v Speaker 1>humor and wacky build interactions that have been a key
<v Speaker 1>part of McMillan's work for decades don't distract. And I
<v Speaker 1>have the greatest evidence in the world for Hey, if
<v Speaker 1>you look at this game and it's not immediately like
<v Speaker 1>your style, or you think that the humor is a
<v Speaker 1>little bit aged. Dan Reikert loves this game and he
<v Speaker 1>hates all that stuff. He's like, I'm liking this game
<v Speaker 1>despite that. It's not even phasing him. So if he
<v Speaker 1>can get over, I think anyone can. I played a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of it. I'm I didn't immediately like snap
<v Speaker 1>into place with it. People said, it's it is like
<v Speaker 1>an expanded roguelike of Into the Breach, which already a ruguelike,
<v Speaker 1>but they're doing even more with that with that aspect here.
<v Speaker 1>But you where you breed cats and then you send
<v Speaker 1>out your cats on runs and they all kind of
<v Speaker 1>funky and fucked up. It's it is really well done,
<v Speaker 1>and you can immediately see how there are some potentials
<v Speaker 1>for broken builds where your cats are just these immortal beasts.
<v Speaker 1>And then it's like, oh man, you're gonna be telling
<v Speaker 1>the story about that one cat that you had on
<v Speaker 1>that one run for the rest of your life, because
<v Speaker 1>you know you're gonna play this game for one hundred
<v Speaker 1>plus hours. Any interest in emugenics you said you had
<v Speaker 1>at the top of your list.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, honest, Like, this is one of those games that's
<v Speaker 2>maybe not to the extent of a halfway through, but
<v Speaker 2>like I played this game in twenty fourteen at Paxi's.
<v Speaker 2>It was like my second pack ever, and I tried
<v Speaker 2>it and I thought it was really interesting. And this
<v Speaker 2>was before I got really into like tactical games too,
<v Speaker 2>coming off of Final Fantasy Tactics this year, this is
<v Speaker 2>exactly what I want to see. I'm a big ed
<v Speaker 2>m McMillan fan. Super me Boy the original with the
<v Speaker 2>original soundtrack, probably top five games I've ever played on
<v Speaker 2>an Xbox. I just love Super Maketh Away to Death,
<v Speaker 2>Finding of Isaac. But like I'm I am in the
<v Speaker 2>market right now to get into another rogueline game. I'm
<v Speaker 2>already balancing like so many but this this is looking
<v Speaker 2>like it's gonna hit all of those notes. It's gonna
<v Speaker 2>be gross, but it's also gonna be cute because it
<v Speaker 2>hats cats, not hats. But yeah, every everything I saw
<v Speaker 2>in the quick look this morning made it go straight
<v Speaker 2>up to the top of my list. I'm gonna be
<v Speaker 2>playing this game day one, and I'm just you know,
<v Speaker 2>happy for the team that after a decade this game
<v Speaker 2>was canceled, it was brought back just because it was
<v Speaker 2>a passion project. It's always great to see these games
<v Speaker 2>do really well. And is this the highest game of
<v Speaker 2>the year like rated games, Sorry, it kind of feels.
<v Speaker 1>So far, this is the highest rated game of any like. Note, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's a ninety. I think the previous high was like
<v Speaker 1>an eighty seven for something like that, And of course
<v Speaker 1>course only means so much. But true, well, as I
<v Speaker 1>always say, it's very hard to get abublic an eighty five.
<v Speaker 1>Getting a ninety is basically impossible for most games. So
<v Speaker 1>this is really really impressive stuff. I will I'll have
<v Speaker 1>to spend more time with it. I know, Like you know,
<v Speaker 1>Dan's played something like thirty hours and he's got some
<v Speaker 1>assignments coming up, and he's like he'll be on some
<v Speaker 1>flights here and there, and he's planning on playing even
<v Speaker 1>more on those flights. Specifically said that's the game he
<v Speaker 1>wants to be playing. So yeah, I love a rogue light,
<v Speaker 1>I love a tactical game. I love cats. I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>so I need I need just going there and play
<v Speaker 1>this game and kind of see it for myself. Mike
<v Speaker 1>was even kind of like, I think Mike who started it,
<v Speaker 1>and he was like, yeah, okay, and then after a
<v Speaker 1>little bit was also kind of singing its praises. So
<v Speaker 1>it's winning over everyone who was playing it. I never
<v Speaker 1>played Binding of Isaac. That's when I feel like I've
<v Speaker 1>also to go back to that more than playing this. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I know that's I love Rogue Lights and it's like
<v Speaker 1>that that's like a like one of the key ones
<v Speaker 1>in the genre at this point.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, to me, I mean, it might not be
<v Speaker 2>for a lot of people, but to me, that was
<v Speaker 2>kind of a mount Rushmore. It was like one of
<v Speaker 2>the first big indie games. I feel like I picked
<v Speaker 2>up just because I did. Hear one of my friends
<v Speaker 2>is like one of the biggest Binding of Isaac people
<v Speaker 2>or fans in the world. And then also just at
<v Speaker 2>the same time, it's like that original flash version was
<v Speaker 2>so Zelda one coded that it's just like was kind
<v Speaker 2>of easy to get into for me, and it's only
<v Speaker 2>gotten better and better over time. There's a lot a
<v Speaker 2>lot of content you have if you're just joining that
<v Speaker 2>game now, and I'm like like an expansion or two
<v Speaker 2>behind at this point, there's so many games that have
<v Speaker 2>taken what Isaac did so well and are running with
<v Speaker 2>it like Gungeon, Nuclear Throne. There's so many great games
<v Speaker 2>like that. But yeah, no, uh, definitely work worth checking out.
<v Speaker 2>Really good soundtrack, really crazy everything. Isaac is very cool.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and the thing with the binding of Isaacs, like
<v Speaker 1>I could throw that on a Steam Deck and that
<v Speaker 1>would be perfect on there. I could probably play that
<v Speaker 1>non stop. Uh. We're pointing out Mugenics is like a
<v Speaker 1>cursor game, so you could play that with the Steam
<v Speaker 1>Deck with any controller and you just but you're just
<v Speaker 1>controlling the cursor. But it's turn based, so it's not
<v Speaker 1>like it's there's any sort of problem of like, oh am,
<v Speaker 1>I gonna be able to do this in time. I mean.
<v Speaker 2>Good thing to point out is that the touch pad,
<v Speaker 2>the right touch pad, Like I did that a lot
<v Speaker 2>in like fives of six.
<v Speaker 1>It'll work.
<v Speaker 2>It'll work right here, perfect for that. Yeah. I'm excited
<v Speaker 2>for that Steam controller just because of that. It's gonna
<v Speaker 2>make like a lot of games a lot easier to
<v Speaker 2>use just on a pad.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. Looking looking forward to it as well, you know,
<v Speaker 1>if it ever comes.
<v Speaker 2>Out, If it ever comes yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's whatever's like, okay, delay the Steam Machine in
<v Speaker 1>the steamframe. We all get it. We all understand what's
<v Speaker 1>happening the controller. Can we just get the controller now?
<v Speaker 1>There's a lot of people excited about that thing, including me.
<v Speaker 1>I'm a controller, Siko, give me more and more. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's get on to this next story. A Bolder's Gate
<v Speaker 1>TV show is happening in the worst way possible. From
<v Speaker 1>real Trooper Kenneth Shepherd at Kotaku three days ago, I
<v Speaker 1>was talking about how sometimes good things happen, like HBO's
<v Speaker 1>bunk Ass Live action, the last of a series looking
<v Speaker 1>likely to end in three says three seasons rather than four. Well,
<v Speaker 1>the monkeys, Paul didn't just curl. It rolled upon itself
<v Speaker 1>with an intensity great enough to open a portal to
<v Speaker 1>a much, much worse to mention, Craig Mason, who serves
<v Speaker 1>as showrunner on the po apocalyptic adaptation of the Last
<v Speaker 1>of Us, isn't done at HBO. He's now apparently working
<v Speaker 1>on a boulders Gate series that will continue the story
<v Speaker 1>of Larry and Studio's RPG, and then Kenneth proclaims, just
<v Speaker 1>shoot me HBO. Deadline reports that Mason is working alongside
<v Speaker 1>Hasbro to create a continue of Bouldersgate three's story that
<v Speaker 1>will include both new characters and some returning ones from
<v Speaker 1>the game. You know, the ones whose fate could have
<v Speaker 1>greatly influenced could have been greatly influenced with your decisions
<v Speaker 1>in ways too drastic for the writers to have any
<v Speaker 1>wiggle room and making sweeping choices for them. He says
<v Speaker 1>he already doesn't trust Mason with the characters when he's
<v Speaker 1>following the source material script, much less continuing their stories
<v Speaker 1>beyond the credits. According to Deadline Story, Mason has full
<v Speaker 1>creative control, and yeah, Kenneth is not happy about that.
<v Speaker 1>There's a lot of people I've seen reactions beyond like
<v Speaker 1>this sounds awful. I have not watched the second of
<v Speaker 1>the Last of Us. The last Craig Mason thing I
<v Speaker 1>watched was Chernobyl, which is one of the greatest TV
<v Speaker 1>mini series of all time. Is that entirely up to
<v Speaker 1>Craig Mason. I have no idea. Maybe it's not. Maybe
<v Speaker 1>the other people involved was. I mean, I know that
<v Speaker 1>like the set designer and stuff went from that show
<v Speaker 1>to and Or and and Ors now the best show
<v Speaker 1>ever made. So maybe it was the set desire that
<v Speaker 1>was really making Chernobyl Churn. I I think the idea
<v Speaker 1>that is even more frustrating here than having Craig Mason
<v Speaker 1>make another video game adaptation after sort of seemingly pissing
<v Speaker 1>off everyone who liked The Last of Us with season two,
<v Speaker 1>is this idea of continuing the story of Balder's Gate three,
<v Speaker 1>this thing that's so greatly dependent on your own choice.
<v Speaker 1>Who is going to be happy with whatever the status
<v Speaker 1>quo they decide upon, because it's not going to be
<v Speaker 1>anyone's status quo at the end of that game, right.
<v Speaker 2>Right that It kind of it is a big worry
<v Speaker 2>because like, how are you going to definitively say this
<v Speaker 2>is like the canon path and these are the choices
<v Speaker 2>you should have done. It does seem like a little
<v Speaker 2>shortsighted in It definitely kind of screams that like has
<v Speaker 2>Bro is just looking to capitalize on this without actually
<v Speaker 2>realizing what made that game so special in the first place.
<v Speaker 2>I think there's a big difference in something like Balder's
<v Speaker 2>Gate three versus like like a mass effect mass Effects
<v Speaker 2>getting a show to Amazon, but like at the end
<v Speaker 2>of the day, mass Effect has these plot elements that
<v Speaker 2>you are building decisions to and it changes who you're
<v Speaker 2>interacting with. It doesn't just completely give you a different ending.
<v Speaker 2>At the end of the day, Mass Effect is about choices,
<v Speaker 2>but Balder's Gate is a choice based RPG in a
<v Speaker 2>in a sense it you are crafting your own story,
<v Speaker 2>as opposed to in Mass Effect you are just kind
<v Speaker 2>of going along and you have a set path. But
<v Speaker 2>it's like, what's going to change. I don't think anyone's
<v Speaker 2>gonna want them to say, hey, this is definitively what
<v Speaker 2>this is. Yeah, thanks, man, I I just hate I
<v Speaker 2>hate this decision. It's not great and I don't even
<v Speaker 2>know what they're gonna do with this, Like yeah, I just.
<v Speaker 1>Like why not? I mean a Balder Skate TV show? Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so just make a like Balder Skates the City, right, Like,
<v Speaker 1>we'll just make a show set in that in the
<v Speaker 1>city and and have it follow D and D characters
<v Speaker 1>doing D and D stuff, and have it inspired by
<v Speaker 1>the flavor of Larian's game. And then you know, in
<v Speaker 1>that situation, one of the characters from that game could
<v Speaker 1>make a cameo or show up. But like, just the
<v Speaker 1>whole point of Dungeons and Dragons, right, is like that
<v Speaker 1>that you can have this whole space where you tell
<v Speaker 1>your own stories with your friends. And then boulders Gate
<v Speaker 1>three was like, here's a tool to sort of like
<v Speaker 1>we're going to build a campaign and it's still going
<v Speaker 1>to be mostly open and you're still going to tell
<v Speaker 1>your own story by making your own decisions. The people
<v Speaker 1>who are making the show should do that as well, Like,
<v Speaker 1>I just don't I don't get the thinking here. There's
<v Speaker 1>so much room for doing cool things. How is this
<v Speaker 1>the solution they set on? Other than that game sold
<v Speaker 1>really well. People will be really happy to see whoever
<v Speaker 1>again Starian or Ahsterian I can't say his name.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but are you they even going to be able
<v Speaker 2>to get those people back? Is the big question because
<v Speaker 2>it's like it wasn't as Bro that found all these actors,
<v Speaker 2>that made those characters and crafted them with love. It's like, no,
<v Speaker 2>these are characters. You're kind of taking from an existing thing,
<v Speaker 2>and we might just completely misunderstand the point of these characters,
<v Speaker 2>like they're gonna misinterpret Like why this game was so
<v Speaker 2>cool It was that open endedness of a D and
<v Speaker 2>D game, but within the confines of the game, like
<v Speaker 2>what are you doing, like like maybe choose your own
<v Speaker 2>adventure like a band or Snatch sort of thing could work,
<v Speaker 2>but like just a Baalther's Gate TV show following three
<v Speaker 2>just feels like I don't even know how you can
<v Speaker 2>scale that down, Like the sky's the limit in that
<v Speaker 2>video game. It is nuts to see what they actually
<v Speaker 2>fit into there.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I also don't like the tone that I
<v Speaker 1>think HBO will go for to like make it feel
<v Speaker 1>big and important, and prestige also doesn't necessarily fit. I
<v Speaker 1>guess it works better for like what Baldersgate has kind
<v Speaker 1>of been in Balderskate three definitely feels like it has
<v Speaker 1>just fantastic writing and great performances and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 1>But onmag Thieves, people pointing out in chat and like
<v Speaker 1>I loved Honor among Thieves. That was that felt like
<v Speaker 1>someone played a campaign and then they adapted that campaign
<v Speaker 1>into a film because it has all the energy of
<v Speaker 1>people sitting around a table, goof around with one another,
<v Speaker 1>kind of making bold choices because they you know, they're
<v Speaker 1>bored or whatever, and then they just want to mix
<v Speaker 1>things up. It has that energy and that was really
<v Speaker 1>fun and I kind of think ideal HBO is going
<v Speaker 1>to have to try to be like this is our
<v Speaker 1>next Game of Thrones and I just don't I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>That doesn't sound nearly as appealing to me. Larryan isn't
<v Speaker 1>involved with the show. That's the next story here. They're
<v Speaker 1>not involved with balder Skate show at all, and that's
<v Speaker 1>not surprising. But also the people who love that game,
<v Speaker 1>they know who's responsible for it. Kenneth Shepherd wrote this
<v Speaker 1>one as well. Last night, HBO announced what could be
<v Speaker 1>described as a terroristic threat against me, specifically by revealing
<v Speaker 1>it's working on a Balderskate TV show that will take
<v Speaker 1>place after Balderskate three and canonize the event of the
<v Speaker 1>Choice driven RP all while working with the last of
<v Speaker 1>a show runner, Craig Mason. The second part of the
<v Speaker 1>one two punch punch came shortly after when it was
<v Speaker 1>confirmed that Larry and Studios, the team behind baldersk three,
<v Speaker 1>won't it won't be involved in the show at all.
<v Speaker 1>The fans and maybe even some of the folks that
<v Speaker 1>Larry and have been expressing disappointment about all of the
<v Speaker 1>above in the hours since, and then Kenneth Over and
<v Speaker 1>Katuk had collected a bunch of messages from people on
<v Speaker 1>social media kind of being very upset or sad or
<v Speaker 1>coming up with plans to save their favorite character by
<v Speaker 1>smuggling them out of their butt from HBO's headquarters and
<v Speaker 1>stuff like that. There's some responses to this news. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>like I said, not surprising, Larian's not involved. They're not
<v Speaker 1>involved in Bouldersgate in any way anymore. They're moving on Balderskate,
<v Speaker 1>They're done with Balder's Gate three there. They were even
<v Speaker 1>talking about, Hey, we'd love to do a switch version,
<v Speaker 1>but we don't work with Pasbro and all them over
<v Speaker 1>there anymore, so it's not happening. There's no conversations about that.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, them not being involved with the show makes
<v Speaker 1>sense from that point of view. Where it doesn't makes
<v Speaker 1>sense is these are their characters and their writers and
<v Speaker 1>their take on the universe, and that stuff is good
<v Speaker 1>because of those people who work and worked at Larian.
<v Speaker 1>I think trying to I mean not that that's like
<v Speaker 1>how you go. The only way you could adapt things
<v Speaker 1>is working with the original people. But I think we've
<v Speaker 1>seen that has helped a lot. That first season The
<v Speaker 1>Last of Us was much more well received when people
<v Speaker 1>from Naughty Dog were more involved, and then the second
<v Speaker 1>season they were less involved and people didn't like it
<v Speaker 1>as much as you know, again small sample size, but
<v Speaker 1>that's what people are worried about here. I I you know,
<v Speaker 1>do you think like this is going to come out
<v Speaker 1>and be like sort of the staple or the is
<v Speaker 1>it going to exemplify like where gaming adaptations are in
<v Speaker 1>Hollywood right now, where it's just like they feel like
<v Speaker 1>they can brute force them into being big hits if
<v Speaker 1>they just throw a bunch of money into it and
<v Speaker 1>they aren't going to worry about the details.
<v Speaker 2>A bunch of money on a bunch of cameos. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it's it is interesting because like it is continuing the story,
<v Speaker 2>but like I mean, D and D just as a
<v Speaker 2>structure is so I don't know, varied, it's so.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It's open ended in a way that I think personally,
<v Speaker 2>you could do anything you want with this kind of thing.
<v Speaker 2>With this kind of game, you can craft your own story.
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, I think it's gonna be different. Like I
<v Speaker 2>just feel like if you want to build off of
<v Speaker 2>balders Gate three, you can, but it doesn't need to
<v Speaker 2>necessarily focus on those characters. You could just have these
<v Speaker 2>tales of what happened, maybe you mention a couple side quests,
<v Speaker 2>but yeah, it's it's weird because it's like they're not
<v Speaker 2>gonna get the characters per se. It's not like, hey, Mario,
<v Speaker 2>we have like a said amount of characters and it
<v Speaker 2>makes sense that we would have them there, Like, these
<v Speaker 2>characters are so vastly different, and if you're gonna get
<v Speaker 2>people to recast as these cares, good luck. It feels
<v Speaker 2>so out of place that I'm not excited for it
<v Speaker 2>in a way that even just saying seeing like hey,
<v Speaker 2>like House of the Dead has a lead now in
<v Speaker 2>whatever movie that's going to be coming up, It's like
<v Speaker 2>I don't have any expectations for what that could be,
<v Speaker 2>So go for it. Yeah, man, I don't know. It's
<v Speaker 2>a very weird question because it is like partly a
<v Speaker 2>D and D th, partly a gaming thing. But I'm
<v Speaker 2>hoping for the best because yeah, again, Craig Mason has
<v Speaker 2>a good history. I did like that first season of
<v Speaker 2>Last of Us, didn't really care so much for season two,
<v Speaker 2>but that's besides the point. Yeah, yeah, it it. I mean,
<v Speaker 2>I think beyond it just being the Hollywood thing, video
<v Speaker 2>games are the new push right now. It is has
<v Speaker 2>Bro being like, hey, we only really make money on
<v Speaker 2>Magic the Gathering, and so we do need to diversify things.
<v Speaker 2>We do need to create all these different like franchise
<v Speaker 2>Wizards make video games. It feels like it is more
<v Speaker 2>so for the money than it is for the fans,
<v Speaker 2>which is I think why a lot of those video
<v Speaker 2>game movies, even if they are like elementary by the numbers,
<v Speaker 2>like you could just PLoP the Hero's Journey down on
<v Speaker 2>a script, This one just feels like you're missing the
<v Speaker 2>entire point of it.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. I think that there's a strong chance this will
<v Speaker 1>never happen. I think there's a and then if it does,
<v Speaker 1>I think it will be yes, another poster child for
<v Speaker 1>Hollywood not really getting it and probably I mean with
<v Speaker 1>one thing I think we could probably rely on is
<v Speaker 1>it will look big and expensive and maybe that'll be
<v Speaker 1>enough to win me over. Who knows. All right, let's
<v Speaker 1>take a break. We come back plenty more headlines to
<v Speaker 1>get into. We also are gonna end the week with
<v Speaker 1>the Bomb twelve, so stick around for that everybody. If
<v Speaker 1>you want to skip out on these ad messages, you
<v Speaker 1>could do that. Just got to go to GiantBomb dot
<v Speaker 1>com slash join become a premium member. There you will
<v Speaker 1>find ad free versions of the audio show, avery versions
<v Speaker 1>of the video show. In the meantime, though, we will
<v Speaker 1>be right back. All right, We're back Games Mornings, John Martin,
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grubb. Nintendo Support has a page for a WE
<v Speaker 1>remote for Yeah, WE remote for the Nintendo switch to.
<v Speaker 1>What is remote? I'm saying remote remote? Yeah, there we go,
<v Speaker 1>WE remote for the Nintendo Switch too. This is for
<v Speaker 1>my Nintendo news. Nintendo Support has published a page for
<v Speaker 1>an unspecified WE remote accessory for the switch to. We
<v Speaker 1>already have GameCube games on the switch to Nintendo Classic service,
<v Speaker 1>so we as likely the next candidate. Of course, this
<v Speaker 1>could just be future planning, as the support page itself
<v Speaker 1>is naturally devoid of any details regarding the currently unannounced
<v Speaker 1>peripheral Yeah. Look, John, if you make a GameCube emulator,
<v Speaker 1>you've also made a WI emulator, so that you know
<v Speaker 1>that's dolphin. Dolphin does both right and in there, because
<v Speaker 1>you know, the WE famously is two GameCubes duct tape together,
<v Speaker 1>so the same thing. Uh this, I mean, they're if
<v Speaker 1>they did the Virtual Boy, why wouldn't they do the Wii.
<v Speaker 1>This is is this happening?
<v Speaker 2>I assume so at a certain point, I yeah, I
<v Speaker 2>still look back to like everyone's reactions to the Virtual Boy.
<v Speaker 2>It's still wild to me that that is actually happening.
<v Speaker 1>It's like crazy the WE.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, the Wei was a touchstone for so many. Uh,
<v Speaker 2>it is assuredly going to turn heads. It. It's a
<v Speaker 2>weird situation where I feel like the WE more more
<v Speaker 2>so than the GameCube has more games already on the
<v Speaker 2>switch in one form or another than the GameCube does.
<v Speaker 2>Like you have Skyward Sword, you have both Mario Galaxies,
<v Speaker 2>sort of have we Sports but not really. Yeah, I
<v Speaker 2>mean this makes a lot of sense. How they're going
<v Speaker 2>to justify selling the WE remote as opposed to just
<v Speaker 2>being able to use a joy Con is going to
<v Speaker 2>be interesting. But I guess it's gyro versus like Pointer Tech.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah right, so, and I think you know, Virtual Boy
<v Speaker 1>was the one where it's like this is not gonna
<v Speaker 1>work unless you have the Virtual Boy accessory or you
<v Speaker 1>got to have maybe the cardboard thing. But either way,
<v Speaker 1>you're gonna need to put the switch into something for
<v Speaker 1>us to like enable you to access these games. They
<v Speaker 1>haven't done that with the other consoles because the controller
<v Speaker 1>situation is not as confusing as it is here. But
<v Speaker 1>I imagine many games would work with the controllers with the
<v Speaker 1>joy Con controllers, but maybe not every single one. So
<v Speaker 1>I wonder how Nintendo will sort of delineate that. Will
<v Speaker 1>they say here's WE but you can only get it
<v Speaker 1>if you buy the WE mote. I don't know that
<v Speaker 1>would that would be a little bit weird for them.
<v Speaker 1>But if it comes down to, like, we don't have
<v Speaker 1>the exact pointer tech, although they can fake that. They
<v Speaker 1>did that with Super Mario Galaxy too in that collection
<v Speaker 1>a little bit ago. So I hope that they're just like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you can use the joy Con if you want, and
<v Speaker 1>then for the sickos, go buy a Wei mote. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Is there any game that actually uses like the WE speaker,
<v Speaker 2>like the WE remote speaker inside of the controller, Like
<v Speaker 2>I have no idea if there is anything that actually
<v Speaker 2>does that?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Is there is there any game that you have wanted
<v Speaker 2>to play on the Wii and just have not gone
<v Speaker 2>around to it, And this would be the moment that
<v Speaker 2>like I can choose one game, this is the game
<v Speaker 2>I want? Day one?
<v Speaker 1>I mean not not really not a ton. I mean
<v Speaker 1>like Captain Rainbow or whatever, but that game never came
<v Speaker 1>out here, so they'd have to translate it, so that's
<v Speaker 1>not happening. I don't know. I like boom blocks. Give
<v Speaker 1>me some boom blocks. There's definitely like I would play.
<v Speaker 1>I would go back to like Super Paper Mario, that
<v Speaker 1>would I would like to go back to something like that.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, I'm not like craving We too much. Punch Out.
<v Speaker 1>Punch Out for We's maybe the best game on WI.
<v Speaker 1>So if they don't remake that and just put it
<v Speaker 1>on and switches, which is what they should do, I'll
<v Speaker 1>take it on this service and that game. If they
<v Speaker 1>could just adapt that a little bit and make it
<v Speaker 1>so you don't need a Wimo at all, you can
<v Speaker 1>just play with the controls. Yeah, I think that'd be cool.
<v Speaker 1>There's also a chance that this is just nothing. This
<v Speaker 1>is just u the web, like the way that they
<v Speaker 1>said the website and their support pages are just sort
<v Speaker 1>of automated, or someone making them being like, oh, we
<v Speaker 1>got to make a support page for this controller on
<v Speaker 1>all the devices, and nothing actually ends up happening here.
<v Speaker 1>But again, they made a game emulator, so they have
<v Speaker 1>a Wi emulator, and to me, it's just like a
<v Speaker 1>matter of time, especially after they already did the Virtual Boy.
<v Speaker 1>If the Virtual Boy is game, the we is certainly
<v Speaker 1>right there. I guess maybe the only difference would be,
<v Speaker 1>like maybe you know, do they want to still want
<v Speaker 1>to like remake and just sell most of those WEI games.
<v Speaker 1>The thing is they they're doing that with GameCube as well,
<v Speaker 1>and then they also have the GameCube NSO, so they
<v Speaker 1>are making room for both. So I think this does
<v Speaker 1>happen eventually, but I don't know, like if there's a
<v Speaker 1>new Nintendo Direct here in the next couple of months,
<v Speaker 1>this is something that happens soon. I don't know, what
<v Speaker 1>do you think?
<v Speaker 2>Probably not. I mean that that might just be a
<v Speaker 2>personal preference, is that we're already going to have Virtual
<v Speaker 2>Boys added to the drip feed of all this NSO stuff.
<v Speaker 2>So like I do want to play some Wii games again,
<v Speaker 2>Like I'm really hoping we get like a chance to
<v Speaker 2>play Zach and Wiki again. Yeah, but yeah, I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>Like I feel like it is too early. We are
<v Speaker 2>still within the first year of the switch in the GameCube.
<v Speaker 2>NSO was a big part of that marketing push, so
<v Speaker 2>I feel like we have at least like a year
<v Speaker 2>or two. That said, I feel like they have been
<v Speaker 2>working on some we remote solution. I assume they also
<v Speaker 2>probably already have a DS solution in mind, and they're
<v Speaker 2>just trying to get that to work and be feasible.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I think theyre Yeah, you're probably right that
<v Speaker 1>they're just like working on all this stuff and it'll
<v Speaker 1>happen in time. But you're right there. They're gonna emphasize
<v Speaker 1>GameCube for a while before they introduce something else. All right, Well,
<v Speaker 1>let's stick with Nintendo. Nintendo trademarks Mario and Warrio and
<v Speaker 1>the upcoming Rhythm Heaven Groove. This comes from my Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>News as well. Nintendo has issued some more trademarks for
<v Speaker 1>Mario and Warrio and Rhythm Heaven Groove. Mario and Warrio,
<v Speaker 1>which is an old Super Famicom game from nineteen ninety
<v Speaker 1>three Everybody is set for renewal on the seventeenth of February,
<v Speaker 1>and Rhythm Heaven Grew is set for the twenty fourth
<v Speaker 1>of February. Nintendo regularly updates its wide array of trademarks,
<v Speaker 1>and this is just another example of this. That has
<v Speaker 1>not stopped people john from using this as major copium
<v Speaker 1>for the idea that there is another Nintendo Direct happening
<v Speaker 1>in like the next week or two. People keep pointing
<v Speaker 1>till like February seventeenth, there will be another general Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Direct with first party games, and maybe there there is
<v Speaker 1>a new Mario and Warrio game. Marion Warrio is already
<v Speaker 1>on nso it's it's one of those ones you can
<v Speaker 1>use the mouse on. Actually, because I think it was.
<v Speaker 1>It worked with the Superhero Famicom Mario Paint mouse. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this probably is almost certainly just the team of lawyers
<v Speaker 1>at Nintendo doing their job and not caring about what
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo the game developer is doing at all. They're like, no,
<v Speaker 1>we're just charging ahead. This one's going to expire soon.
<v Speaker 1>We should just go ahead and get it updated now.
<v Speaker 1>But I don't know, is there anything more to any
<v Speaker 1>of this.
<v Speaker 2>Probably not for the near future. I mean, I'm always
<v Speaker 2>thinking about Warrio, but I've been thinking about Warrio a
<v Speaker 2>lot recently. Everyone has to be thinking.
<v Speaker 1>There's there's a freaking president. I'm sorry. That was mean
<v Speaker 1>to Warrio.
<v Speaker 2>Never mind, Yeah, that actually was offensive to Warrio.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm sorry Warrio.
<v Speaker 2>I apologize that said I do think we could see
<v Speaker 2>some like kind of money acclamation the three D Open
<v Speaker 2>World game with Warrio, Like I feel like Warrio deserves
<v Speaker 2>the limelight, and so maybe there is a Mario versus
<v Speaker 2>Donkey Kong esque remake of a Mario versus Warrio kind
<v Speaker 2>of game, or even just like a I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>Super Mario Land three kind of deal, but.
<v Speaker 1>I want I want like a Mario and Luigi style
<v Speaker 1>game with Mario and Warrio, like they have to team
<v Speaker 1>up and work together, and and yeah, I think and
<v Speaker 1>that one could be Mario and Warrio working together to
<v Speaker 1>save Luigi and Wa Luigi or something like that, and
<v Speaker 1>then you cut to vignettes of Luigi and Wa Luigi
<v Speaker 1>kind of imprisoned somewhere, kind of like Princess Peach in
<v Speaker 1>Thousand Year Door, and he plays them for a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>That's the dream. That's why when I see something like this,
<v Speaker 1>I immediately get, you know, stars in my eyes and
<v Speaker 1>was like, oh my god, what could this be? And
<v Speaker 1>the it's like, oh, yeah, no, that's that old game
<v Speaker 1>from thirty years ago, and they didn't do anything else
<v Speaker 1>with it ever, and it was not like the game
<v Speaker 1>I'm imagining. So yeah, I want what I want. I
<v Speaker 1>don't think anything close to that is happening. I think
<v Speaker 1>this is just the lawyers doing their jobs, you know.
<v Speaker 1>That said though, how long can Nintendo go this year before,
<v Speaker 1>like without having another new first party general direct or
<v Speaker 1>at least talking about some new games in one way
<v Speaker 1>or another, because I think people always beginning to feel like,
<v Speaker 1>look cool, I love Rhythm Having Groove. There's a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people like that. I love those games. I know
<v Speaker 1>that's not the game that's gonna make most people feel
<v Speaker 1>like they got their money's worth out of the system
<v Speaker 1>that they purchased just last year. When are those games coming?
<v Speaker 1>And how long can Nintendo go without talking about them?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel like April at the latest at this
<v Speaker 2>point that said, Rhythm bevn Groove should be on everyone's radar.
<v Speaker 1>That is huh.
<v Speaker 2>Rhythm Heaven has always been like one of my favorite franchises.
<v Speaker 2>But to be completely I mean again, that's also we
<v Speaker 2>don't even know if there's a Switch to You version
<v Speaker 2>of that that is a Nintendo Switch one game. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>to your point, maybe there's another one in February. That
<v Speaker 2>kind of feels weird, like April is kind of where
<v Speaker 2>I would imagine it would go.
<v Speaker 1>We've already had two. In February, we had the Tomadacci
<v Speaker 1>Life one and the Partner Direct one, so it's like,
<v Speaker 1>we've already had two. They're gonna do a third one,
<v Speaker 1>and I get it would be very different, but still
<v Speaker 1>it's weird.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I thought that was a hallucination I had that
<v Speaker 2>no one else actually had, and that was not just you, buddy.
<v Speaker 2>It's okay, good, okay, I'm glad we're in this together.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, man, like it's gonna need to happen sometime soon.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think Tendo is the infallible at this moment.
<v Speaker 2>It does feel like they're not on their back leg,
<v Speaker 2>but they're they're losing their balance a little bit in
<v Speaker 2>terms of just people pleasing, Like there's so many issues
<v Speaker 2>going on right now. Be it like just overcharging for games, accessories, YadA, YadA,
<v Speaker 2>We talked about that, or potential switch two prices going up.
<v Speaker 2>They kind of need to get ahead of this, and yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I'm very curious to see what they have, But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this first half of the year kind of feels a
<v Speaker 2>little soft to me. Tomadagi Life is gonna be great,
<v Speaker 2>but it's gonna be like a game I do like
<v Speaker 2>once a day in a very animal crossing sort of way,
<v Speaker 2>and they just like, you know, move on to that.
<v Speaker 2>It's not gonna be a profound experience. I guess.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. You know, there's always the chance that game pops
<v Speaker 1>off and has animal Crossing like appeal suddenly where people
<v Speaker 1>are like shown up for it and it attracts a wider,
<v Speaker 1>more diverse audience than Nintendo's or most of Nintendo's games,
<v Speaker 1>But there's no p isn't happening right now, so it's
<v Speaker 1>not going to get that same juice that the Animal
<v Speaker 1>Crossing game got. So yeah, we'll see. I'm I just
<v Speaker 1>I hope Tomadacci Life and Rhythm Haven Grooved delivered because
<v Speaker 1>those are the games that do fill out the library
<v Speaker 1>for me. Like that's like I look back to three
<v Speaker 1>DS and DS and games. It's like Rhythm Heaven on
<v Speaker 1>DS was one of my favorite games, and Tomadaci Life
<v Speaker 1>on the three DS one of my favorite games, and
<v Speaker 1>it's like I look back fondly on those consoles because
<v Speaker 1>of games like that. And so I'm right now, I'm
<v Speaker 1>pretty happy, and I got Donkey Kong and I play
<v Speaker 1>a lot of a third party, especially indie games on
<v Speaker 1>the Switch to so I'm using that thing all the time,
<v Speaker 1>and even I'm like, okay, but where where's the big stuff?
<v Speaker 1>And so the people who are not as like into
<v Speaker 1>these other games from Nintendo or their partners have got
<v Speaker 1>to begin feeling like, Okay, I've played a lot of
<v Speaker 1>Mario Kart World at this point, and Donkey Kong was great,
<v Speaker 1>but both of those were last year. What do I
<v Speaker 1>have look to look forward to this year? I think
<v Speaker 1>April's right. I think you're right about April's the longest
<v Speaker 1>they can go. They're gonna have to kind of. I mean, man,
<v Speaker 1>if they get into the summer, that'd be weird. I'm
<v Speaker 1>just let's just choose to believe that could happen, that
<v Speaker 1>another Duck's gonna happen in February. That'd be great.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, Chad did mention, and I can't believe I
<v Speaker 2>forgot about this. Pokemon Presents is also.
<v Speaker 1>Assuredly Probablyebruary twenty seven, seventh yeap.
<v Speaker 2>So that that's gonna be big. But I agree with
<v Speaker 2>everything you said, Like, like, I love the switch too.
<v Speaker 2>I use it pretty much every day. It's like one
<v Speaker 2>of my favorite places to play video games right now
<v Speaker 2>that in the same deck. But yeah, it does feel
<v Speaker 2>like there is a little personality issue, Like I feel
<v Speaker 2>like it doesn't really have its own character yet. Like
<v Speaker 2>Donkey Jong was incredible my third favorite game I played
<v Speaker 2>last year. But yeah, we don't really have that tone setter.
<v Speaker 2>It doesn't feel like we have all the not all
<v Speaker 2>the stars are not here.
<v Speaker 1>Yetes, all the stars are yet hard yet to be here. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>the Smash ripcord is someone in chat said that that
<v Speaker 1>feels like the one that I've been quiet about it
<v Speaker 1>that could just pop up at any moment again, and
<v Speaker 1>they're like, here are five new characters and an updated
<v Speaker 1>version of Smash Ultimate and I think that would hopt
<v Speaker 1>go a long way yep. And it runs in four
<v Speaker 1>k on Switch to now and stuff like A, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they could do that and that would do very well
<v Speaker 1>for them, all right. This next one, Konami and M
<v Speaker 1>two announced new Goiman Switch collection. Here are the thirteen
<v Speaker 1>retro titles included. This is from Liam Doolin at Nintendo Life.
<v Speaker 1>If you're a fan of Goiman and the Mystical Ninja series,
<v Speaker 1>there was a rather exciting fortieth anniversary announcement shared during
<v Speaker 1>this week's Japanese partner of Showcase. This did not show
<v Speaker 1>up in the Showcase worldwide, but it was in the
<v Speaker 1>Japanese partner Direct. Konami and the emulation experts at M two,
<v Speaker 1>who are the best in the game, are teaming up
<v Speaker 1>to release gananbar Goimon Daishugo, a new retro collection coming
<v Speaker 1>to the Switch and multiple other platforms in Japan on
<v Speaker 1>the second of July. This package will include a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of games. There's Famicom Goimon games, there's Super Famicom Goiman games,
<v Speaker 1>and some game Boy and game Boy Color Goiman games.
<v Speaker 1>So none of the N sixty four ones. I bet
<v Speaker 1>that'll be in the collection two at some point. But man,
<v Speaker 1>I didn't I knew go I knew there were a
<v Speaker 1>lot of Goiman games. I didn't realize there was thirteen
<v Speaker 1>between the Famicom, super Famicom and game Boy. That's that's
<v Speaker 1>quite a bit. Have you ever touched in these Goiman games?
<v Speaker 1>Back in the lean days of the N sixty four,
<v Speaker 1>it was like you were always looking for anything to play,
<v Speaker 1>and so I was just like, oh, this goem On
<v Speaker 1>and the Mystical Ninja game. People have said some nice
<v Speaker 1>things about that I'll check that out, and I ended
<v Speaker 1>up playing quite a bit of that, just because it
<v Speaker 1>was a new game for the N sixty four and
<v Speaker 1>I had kind of felt like they gave it some
<v Speaker 1>care and love. I had not played a lot of
<v Speaker 1>these previous ones, although I know there are fans of
<v Speaker 1>the super Famicom games. How about you any goe On Love.
<v Speaker 2>I was actually playing a goim On game last night.
<v Speaker 2>I've been exploring a lot of the PS one library
<v Speaker 2>and there's like I saw some video of it somewhere,
<v Speaker 2>and like Goiman drives a mech of himself in some
<v Speaker 2>of the games, and so I just had to hunt
<v Speaker 2>this down and then I found out there was like
<v Speaker 2>going on the next generation and it's like a like
<v Speaker 2>a really cool look like two D platformer of like
<v Speaker 2>Goiman's kid is attacking with like his like big pipe thing. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I mean these are fun. I always played some of
<v Speaker 2>the Super Nintendent ones with my brother growing up. Our
<v Speaker 2>uncle gave us a copy of that, and so those
<v Speaker 2>are just fun two player games to play with each other.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, it's definitely not as big as it is
<v Speaker 2>in Japan, but yeah, those I would I have been
<v Speaker 2>itching to play those like three d N sixty four ones.
<v Speaker 2>I think there's someone just one too. It's just some
<v Speaker 2>of those are just only Japanese exclusive because they're gonna
<v Speaker 2>have things that we just have no idea about. But
<v Speaker 2>go im on the actual person kind of a Robin
<v Speaker 2>Hood figure. So you gotta gotta love sealing from the
<v Speaker 2>rich given to the poor.
<v Speaker 1>So oh yeah, yeah, true true hero absolutely better Mento
<v Speaker 1>and Chat says the uh, the third Super Nintendo game
<v Speaker 1>is a cyberpunk, a link to the past. Okay, I
<v Speaker 1>should play that. That sounds awesome, It's crazy, that sounds
<v Speaker 1>very cool. Okay, let's here. In Vidia reportedly delays RTX
<v Speaker 1>sixty series and cancels RTX fifty supercards. Also Jannis telling
<v Speaker 1>me I made an air on the Bomb twelve, Jim,
<v Speaker 1>what numbers are? Is that game? On twice? And I'll
<v Speaker 1>get you the other game that should be there all right?
<v Speaker 1>From Alex Hopley at Game Reactor, it appears in Video's
<v Speaker 1>Consumer Cards won't be coming back for some time as
<v Speaker 1>d RAM shortages continue to plague the GPU industry. Ever
<v Speaker 1>since we first heard of RAM shortages spread throughout the world,
<v Speaker 1>we realized this would have a larger impact on the
<v Speaker 1>world of tech. Now we're seeing a major after effect,
<v Speaker 1>as it seems Nvidia is set to delay its next
<v Speaker 1>generation rtxgpus and won't launch the famous Super series of
<v Speaker 1>its latest models. This comes from the information via WCCF Tech,
<v Speaker 1>which reports that there are no plans for Nvidia to
<v Speaker 1>launch a new GPU lineup this year and will be
<v Speaker 1>slashing production of current gen cards. Perhaps it's best not
<v Speaker 1>to upgrade now then if you do, if you do,
<v Speaker 1>want to know if there's a light at the end
<v Speaker 1>of the tunnel, though it seems even in Vidia isn't
<v Speaker 1>sure of that just yet. It's new Reuben sixty series
<v Speaker 1>cards were set for release in late twenty twenty seven,
<v Speaker 1>but now have apparently been delayed due to ongoing issues
<v Speaker 1>with the d RAM market. Twenty seven late twenty twenty seven.
<v Speaker 1>Where's what we're talking about, where they're u sure if
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna be able to get enough ram by then,
<v Speaker 1>And really it's like, do they care to try to
<v Speaker 1>solve this because in video benefits if more of the
<v Speaker 1>stuff goes over to AI, because they could sell sixty
<v Speaker 1>thousand dollars cards to vendors one hundred times to make
<v Speaker 1>way more money. This, Hey, this sucks. This is bad.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's not great. I feel like every time we're
<v Speaker 2>talking about this, it it just brings down the mood
<v Speaker 2>because it's there's no future right now that we can see.
<v Speaker 2>If Navidia, of all companies, is not expecting to be
<v Speaker 2>able to release something late next year, man like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this is it's going to play the entire industry for
<v Speaker 2>a good long while. And I I've dealt with software
<v Speaker 2>droughts before. I've dealt with the dire days of the
<v Speaker 2>WU and dealt with like not a lot of games
<v Speaker 2>coming out. But if there's a ton of games coming out,
<v Speaker 2>way more than there were back then, and no new
<v Speaker 2>hardware for people to be able to buy to replace
<v Speaker 2>old hardware, I it's like an aura boros of the
<v Speaker 2>industry kind of eating itself. It's not looking good. And
<v Speaker 2>I mean, AI just keeps bringing people under and under.
<v Speaker 2>So even if people like had the time, had the
<v Speaker 2>means to be able to afford that, who's to say
<v Speaker 2>there is even jobs to make the video games that
<v Speaker 2>we would need these graphics cards for in the first place.
<v Speaker 2>It's it is a vicious cycle. But yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 2>even know if like I don't really know. I wasn't
<v Speaker 2>following the like thirty series in the video bringing back.
<v Speaker 2>Did that happen? Is that?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm basically they like thirty sixty. They were always
<v Speaker 1>making the thirty sixty sounds like they're just going to
<v Speaker 1>ramp up production atle bit more. But yeah, I look
<v Speaker 1>I frustrated on multiple parts here. I'll say, like part
<v Speaker 1>of me is a little bit into the idea of
<v Speaker 1>us putting pause on like technological advancement in video games
<v Speaker 1>so that we could just take advantage of the hardware
<v Speaker 1>that we already have that hasn't been taken advantage of
<v Speaker 1>up to this point. But a global sort of collapse
<v Speaker 1>in the supply of the technology required to make this
<v Speaker 1>stuff is not the answer. It's also frustrating because I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I grew up hearing about oh, the you know, the
<v Speaker 1>Soviet Russia. They have so many limits on their ability
<v Speaker 1>to get anything from stores or whatever because of their system.
<v Speaker 1>It's so bad. And they didn't have enough. They didn't
<v Speaker 1>have enough microprocess microprocessors to keep up with the Cold War,
<v Speaker 1>and that's why they lost. And it's like capitalism has
<v Speaker 1>brought us to the same exact point where we have
<v Speaker 1>a shortage of this thing that everyone needs. It is
<v Speaker 1>a utility at this point, the ability to be able
<v Speaker 1>to compute in your home. And they're like, no, we're
<v Speaker 1>going to take that away from you. We're going to
<v Speaker 1>put it into a server that you have to rent
<v Speaker 1>from us so we can get that sweet, sweet rent.
<v Speaker 1>We're going to be the gatekeepers and we're going to
<v Speaker 1>get that monthly fee from you. It is of course
<v Speaker 1>we've ended up back here. They just want to own everything.
<v Speaker 1>They're going to own your computer as well, and Nvidia
<v Speaker 1>does not seem interested in solving that. So in the meantime,
<v Speaker 1>I think a lot of developers are going to have
<v Speaker 1>to start looking around and thinking about ways to get
<v Speaker 1>creative about making their game stand out in an era where, well,
<v Speaker 1>we're not going to see a lot of visual improvements. Now,
<v Speaker 1>visual improvements already have been diminished so much that maybe
<v Speaker 1>that doesn't matter. But I think this is going to
<v Speaker 1>force people to get even more creative. And I'm excited
<v Speaker 1>about that, just because I know the people responsible for
<v Speaker 1>creating games can think out of the box and can
<v Speaker 1>do amazing things, and I think we're going to get
<v Speaker 1>some cool stuff because of that. But in the meantime, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>if you're trying to upgrade your system, it's going to
<v Speaker 1>be harder than ever and there is no relief in
<v Speaker 1>sight in terms of, hey, they'll have a new generation
<v Speaker 1>of cards, so maybe the used market for fifty series
<v Speaker 1>will get a little bit better because people start selling those.
<v Speaker 1>Now everyone's just gonna hold on to what they have
<v Speaker 1>and be desperate to get rid of anything. So if
<v Speaker 1>you were trying to upgrade, it's just going to be
<v Speaker 1>bad now and get worse through this year, and sounds
<v Speaker 1>like it could be worse through the end of next year.
<v Speaker 1>Excuse me, through the end of next year as well.
<v Speaker 1>So if in videos doing this, like we really should
<v Speaker 1>be expecting price increases across the board from from Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation at Sonya or from PlayStation and Microsoft again, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, absolutely, It's it's one of those things where none
<v Speaker 2>of the companies want to be the first to rip
<v Speaker 2>off that band aid for the third to fourth time.
<v Speaker 2>But I mean, a scar is going to scar over
<v Speaker 2>at some point or another. It's just kind of a
<v Speaker 2>waiting game to see who's actually going to do that.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, maybe Valve is the first one to do that,
<v Speaker 2>to be like this is the range we're expecting our
<v Speaker 2>steam machines to like actually sell at. Yeah. No, it's
<v Speaker 2>gonna happen. It absolutely will happen.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah yeah. Someone said I thought Sony was gobstock. They
<v Speaker 1>did say they were go to stock for like six months. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>so that's gonna go by fast. Yeah. Yeah, we're already
<v Speaker 1>kind of deep into that. So we're gonna we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>probably show up here to the latter half of this year,
<v Speaker 1>and they're gonna have to pay a lot more for
<v Speaker 1>the same memory, and they're probably gonna raise prices. I
<v Speaker 1>think Sony maybe is the least likely. They already have
<v Speaker 1>pretty high prices on their devices. They've raised them a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of times. They might just eat it. Microsoft doesn't
<v Speaker 1>seem interested in taking any losses in their stuff, so
<v Speaker 1>I think they could raise their price and then the
<v Speaker 1>switch to we know already hit by tariffs, already hit
<v Speaker 1>by a bunch of other reasons that their their profit
<v Speaker 1>margins were dwindling that they're not gonna be able to take.
<v Speaker 1>They won't take this, so they're gonna probably raise their
<v Speaker 1>prices here before the end of the year. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's keep going. Assassin's Creed Shadows co op mode has
<v Speaker 1>been reportedly canceled. This from Eric Warner at Dual Shockers.
<v Speaker 1>Apparently they were going to do a unity style, a
<v Speaker 1>multiplayer thing where it's kind of cooperative. They aren't doing
<v Speaker 1>that anymore. It sounds like they're canceling that, and it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I get it. I don't think I think a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people were happy with Shadows. They were like, this
<v Speaker 1>is a pretty good Assassin's Creed game, maybe not quite
<v Speaker 1>back to form, but close enough. And that audience that
<v Speaker 1>shows up for those games, I have not heard them
<v Speaker 1>clamoring for the return of the multiplayer games, multiple multiplayer
<v Speaker 1>modes in the Assassin's Creed games. And at the same time,
<v Speaker 1>it's like, you're gonna put that out and you're going
<v Speaker 1>to be compared to the upcoming co op mode that
<v Speaker 1>will be in Ghost of not Soushi Mode, Ghost of
<v Speaker 1>Yoka Thank You, and that one. We know that from
<v Speaker 1>the last one was really well received and this is
<v Speaker 1>gonna maybe not look as great in comparison. But also,
<v Speaker 1>this is just ubisoftian, like pulling the plug on another thing,
<v Speaker 1>another project. They're doing a lot of that. This is
<v Speaker 1>probably part of that, right, where they're just like, let's
<v Speaker 1>just focus on the stuff we know works. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Absolutely, And I mean like anything that comes out, sure
<v Speaker 2>a game's launch is already gonna have diminishing returns. It
<v Speaker 2>does make sense to focus on the next project that
<v Speaker 2>will bring in a whole new audience, will attract people
<v Speaker 2>just because it is this bright and shiny new thing.
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, like absolutely, Like there's a part of me
<v Speaker 2>that was already more excited for the legends aspect of
<v Speaker 2>Ghost to Yota than I was for the main game,
<v Speaker 2>not diminishing that game at all, Like phenomenal game. Circle
<v Speaker 2>Punch nailed it with Sushima, and Yota is even better,
<v Speaker 2>even though if I barely touched it, just not having
<v Speaker 2>enough time. But yeah, it's not nice to see the
<v Speaker 2>words canceled associated with the Ubisoft game, especially as of late.
<v Speaker 2>But this is one of the easier to swallow ones,
<v Speaker 2>because I don't think they're going to be laying people
<v Speaker 2>off who were high specifically for a co op mode.
<v Speaker 2>It just more so feels like they're going to be
<v Speaker 2>working on the next Assassin's Creed game, which you know,
<v Speaker 2>that's that's a machine and of its own right, So
<v Speaker 2>it was going to happen eventually.
<v Speaker 1>Last story here, Minecraft gains Bluey DLC. I just included
<v Speaker 1>this because I'm gonna go buy it right away and
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna play some all Minecraft with blue stuff here
<v Speaker 1>here in a little bit. The kids love blue and
<v Speaker 1>they love Minecraft still, so that sounds a good time.
<v Speaker 1>It's yeah, let's see is it available now? Yeah, it's
<v Speaker 1>available now, So go ahead and go go make that happen.
<v Speaker 1>I when I go to some family vacations, John, I'll
<v Speaker 1>go with like steps side of the family, and there
<v Speaker 1>are like five separate sets of families. They basically have
<v Speaker 1>the blue setup. Mom, dad, two daughters, and that includes
<v Speaker 1>like my wife who is she's as a sister and
<v Speaker 1>she was, you know, a family there. So it was like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>kind of across the board, we just have Bluey's all
<v Speaker 1>the way down. It's a lot of fun. All right.
<v Speaker 1>That does it for the headlines. Let's go ahead and
<v Speaker 1>get to yesterday's poll question. I have the results over here.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I'm gonna refresh one more time. More than
<v Speaker 1>four point four thousand votes for have you played Overwatch recently?
<v Speaker 1>Eighty eight percent said no. Then another let's see here,
<v Speaker 1>so that even eleven and a half percent said yes
<v Speaker 1>they have, but six percent said they've done so in
<v Speaker 1>the last year, four percent have done so in the
<v Speaker 1>last week, and then one percent in the last month.
<v Speaker 1>So you're either playing it or you played it at
<v Speaker 1>some point recently, but most people are not, which makes
<v Speaker 1>it sound like, hey, this game that is getting positive
<v Speaker 1>word of mouth again could really pick up any interest
<v Speaker 1>in going back to Overwatch.
<v Speaker 2>John, Yeah, I already have plans actually to do that.
<v Speaker 2>As soon as I saw a Jet Pac cat, I
<v Speaker 2>was like kind of wording sold. So yeah, I'm honestly
<v Speaker 2>I'm throwing it out there. If it's not top three
<v Speaker 2>on the Bomb twelve, something horrible when what happens. But
<v Speaker 2>everything seems to be going well for Overwatch on and
<v Speaker 2>I mean it's Overwatch is a decade this year, so
<v Speaker 2>it's more of a time than any to like get
<v Speaker 2>things right.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I know, I don't like to admit that, but like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>there was a time where I was waking up at
<v Speaker 2>like six am a deck to go to play Overwatch
<v Speaker 2>with some of my friends. So that's wild to think about.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, all right, let's see here. Oh boy, that's that's hurt.
<v Speaker 1>Gives me heartburn. All right, let's see, so we got
<v Speaker 1>that last poll question out of the way. No new
<v Speaker 1>poole question because it's Friday, Bomb twelve. Despite what Mike
<v Speaker 1>Manatti's do when they come on the show. We'll get
<v Speaker 1>to the Bomb twelve here in a second before we
<v Speaker 1>do that though, Yeah, he just came in here started
<v Speaker 1>running the show. Let's see some announcements. The Giant Bomb
<v Speaker 1>community is doing a community endurance run. They're doing so
<v Speaker 1>also on behalf of Veep, the same charity that we
<v Speaker 1>raise money for helping with rent assistance, Yes, exactly, Yes,
<v Speaker 1>help helping with helping people with food. Yes, thank you
<v Speaker 1>so much. That was a lot of fun. We're gonna
<v Speaker 1>host on the website. Jane. Do we have a date
<v Speaker 1>and time for that? Is that this weekend? Thank you, Jan,
<v Speaker 1>appreciate it, so look out for that everybody. It'll be
<v Speaker 1>on Giant Bomb. Also again one more time, there's some
<v Speaker 1>new quick looks, including of Mugenics. If you're hearing this
<v Speaker 1>and you're seeing the scores, you're like, what the hell.
<v Speaker 1>There's honestly probably not a better way to get up
<v Speaker 1>to speed on that game than go into our quick look.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna toot our own horn a little bit. Dan
<v Speaker 1>and Mike did a great job. Thank you. Yes, Edward
<v Speaker 1>McMillan joined them. It seems like a lot of fun
<v Speaker 1>and you should go check it out if you want
<v Speaker 1>to see what that game like really is holding what
<v Speaker 1>it can do. I think Dan is on the sticks
<v Speaker 1>and Mike is asking some questions. It's a good time.
<v Speaker 1>Uh okay, I think that does it. We're gonna have
<v Speaker 1>UPF later today through tune in for that. Gonna just
<v Speaker 1>play a variety of games. I think we're gonna play
<v Speaker 1>some lort lord, but just like this online multiplayer, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know. Check it out. We'll be playing it there.
<v Speaker 2>I'll check it out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, Bomb twelve, John, let's do it. It's
<v Speaker 1>the end of the week, everybody. So we ask everyone
<v Speaker 1>throughout the week to tell me, hey, what game are
<v Speaker 1>you playing? And then we collect the twelve games that
<v Speaker 1>really matter to people who are really playing video games.
<v Speaker 1>We have the results right here. Number twelve is Silent Hill.
<v Speaker 1>F this it feels like it's part of a collection
<v Speaker 1>of games on the Bomb twelve that are popular from
<v Speaker 1>last year that people are now going back to check
<v Speaker 1>out because they got some other stuff out of their way.
<v Speaker 1>Number eleven is high Tail, which is that Minecraft like right,
<v Speaker 1>number ten Haities two. Number nine Arc Knights Indfield, which
<v Speaker 1>I saw people say they regretfully had to put as
<v Speaker 1>their Bomb twelve game because they can't stop playing it.
<v Speaker 1>I guess it's a Goshapon game, but I don't know. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>eight is Mio Memories in Orbit. There's a quick look
<v Speaker 1>of that on the site. Seven is boulders Gate. Three.
<v Speaker 1>Number six is Neo three. Number five Escape from ever After.
<v Speaker 1>That's that paper Mario game. Yeah, me and Mike did
<v Speaker 1>a quick look of that. Go check that one out.
<v Speaker 1>Number four is Deadlock. Number three Dragon Quest seven reimagined,
<v Speaker 1>popping up hard on the chart. Number two arc Greaders,
<v Speaker 1>and number one is Cairn the mountain climbing game. A
<v Speaker 1>lot of people checking that out. I'm enjoying that still.
<v Speaker 1>Any game from this list that really stuck out to
<v Speaker 1>you is like, oh now, yeah, I'm playing that too.
<v Speaker 2>None of them I've been. I've been so stuck in
<v Speaker 2>the back clug lately that I have actually touched Karen.
<v Speaker 2>I haven't touched Driving Quest yet. Yeah, Deadlocke, I think
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to be checking out this weekend with some friends.
<v Speaker 2>Actually I have not played that yet, so.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, looking forward to one's picking up that. One's getting
<v Speaker 1>a lot of a lot of attention. It's not even
<v Speaker 1>out yet, so yeah. All right, that's the Bomb twelve
<v Speaker 1>for this week. Let's see. I bet Overwatch mix it
<v Speaker 1>next week. I bet it's gonna be on the Bomb
<v Speaker 1>twelve for next week. We'll see what that. See if
<v Speaker 1>that happens, See what else makes the chart. If you
<v Speaker 1>want to have your voice heard in the Bomb twelve,
<v Speaker 1>just go to giant bomb dot com. If you do so,
<v Speaker 1>later today, I'll have the updated Bomb twelve. If you
<v Speaker 1>scroll down just a little bit right there on the
<v Speaker 1>homepage and then to the left there's a button. It
<v Speaker 1>just says vote here or something like that, and you
<v Speaker 1>can add your game to the Bomb twelve and I'll
<v Speaker 1>tell you that all up. We'll get the results next
<v Speaker 1>Friday as we do another round of Giant Bomb content
<v Speaker 1>for next week. Looking forward to that and more. All right,
<v Speaker 1>John Martin, thank you so much for hanging out with
<v Speaker 1>me today and talk about video games. Man, I really
<v Speaker 1>appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, anytime, Jeff, This is one of my favorite things
<v Speaker 2>to do.
<v Speaker 1>Right now.
<v Speaker 2>The Giant Bond community is incredible. I am very thankful
<v Speaker 2>to be on here.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, thank you so much. Thank you for being on,
<v Speaker 1>Thank you for just being cool and being fun to
<v Speaker 1>talk to about video games. Thank you all for watching
<v Speaker 1>and listening. You are the best audience in gaming. Until
<v Speaker 1>next time, have a good one, take care of yourself,
<v Speaker 1>and goodbye.
