Mmm, Hello, it is Tuesday, May the twelve, twenty fifteen, and you are listening to the Giant Bomb Cast. What up room? Hey? Listening to it live? Are you? Yeah? As it's happening. This is great. Dan Reicherd on the left of me, Jeff Kersman on the right. Hello, right here, I am stuck in the middle with the would have made a lot more sense if it was Drew and Yep and not Jason. Sorry. At the end of the time, you messed up my dumb song lyric. You know who's sang that song? Brad? Who's that? Actually? Don't everyone thinks it's Bob Dylan. It's not like I did not think it was Bob Dyler's Wheels whatever. Definitely did not think it was. This is Bob Dylan. Nothing like Dylan on like Napster and stuff. They always said that, like, oh Bob Dylan with you, I love I Love the Lost Art of of the like misnamed the sharing service m P three. The worst was Bobo O'Reilly by the who was always teenage wasteland. Yeah, oh my god, I mean that that I could see you know, it's in the song. I've still got a folder on my desktop well, somewhere in my computer, we're just like mislabeled shit that I got off of Napster that I someday I'm gonna get around to buying those. Yeah, personally a gas that you would admit to Whatchard. Yeah, I was young, impressionable or we all make mistakes. It's time to come clean. Jason A Striker, Sorry everybody, I let everybody down. Yeah, subscribe to Beats Music and then you can fill out a sentence like I'm cruising at the skate park with my homies, and then it'll generate like a list of music to wait, did that did that re launch? No? Is that the old version of the existing I think there's like Apples doing stuff with Yeah, it's like there are iOS betas that ever redesigned a music app in them right now that may eventually get that thing rolled in, I guess. But lucky for Beats Music, I'm always cruising. I thought Beats was just headphones. They actually have like it. No, they was Spotify style. Yeah. Yeah, and didn't Apple pick up like the Beats. Yes, they bought that whole thing. Oh my god. Yeah, that's why I bring why doctor dre is a billionaire now yeah. Yeah, But that's why I bring up the relaunch because there's like there's like kind of not really confirmed, but there are stories out there about Apple trying to strong arm music labels off of Spotify because of this new Beats relaunched it's coming, or just kind of saying like, hey, we're not going to have a free ad supported version. We'll actually pay you real money for your music. It's not like those Spotify jerks. So Apple's paying And then what is Spotify pays as well? But it's it's I think they pay different rates for the ad supported stuff than they do for the premium. I don't actually know. I don't actually know how that works. And what is title that's it's like a knockoff Spotify? That that jay Z's thing, Hey, what it is? What if you paid twice as much for music service as you're paying now? No, Okay. The thing is there's a tier of title that is competitively priced that is just also not higher quality, right, So it's just another one of those. And then if you're like insane and you want like lossless files to play back on your phone over Bluetooth in your car, which you're already using. So much signal over Yeah right, yeah, like what, I don't know, what are you doing? Black files have a certain appeal. Yeah, used your bust through your data cap with big gass flack files. It's like five hundred mega song. Oh no, it's not. It's not actually five hundred megas. Come on, is Rhapsody still a thing? It's Remember when I work. I used to work at best Buy and they were like, hey, get people to sign up for Rhapsody, like that's the future of music and I have not heard of it. And that exactly how they pitched to you, the future music buddy. You got to get people to sign up for this thing because if anyone knows about the future of technology and how we acquire it, it's best Buy totally. Yeah. No, that's they have cables a discount prices. I bought an I bought an I phone charging cable that lit up along the length of it. Oh I saw that thing and the light up cart broke. Really now, it's just a shitty cable. It didn't just light up it like animated. Yeah, yeah, animated. It was very fancy. Was Christmas trees in your car as you were charging your phone? So which music service should I be using? So I used the Spotify, how Spotify, and Pandora. I also use the Google Play music. Do you really need to Google Play? I used Google Late to wait what? Yeah? What do you pay? How money to you? Or are you paying for? Okay? No? Absolutely not. Yeah, I just forgot to cancel my free trial of Spotify, So now I'm a Spotify user. So I'm gonna say Spotify. I signed up for Spotify for about a year and barely ever used it. Yeah, because I are already have a lot of music that I have categorized pretty well and broken up into playlists pretty well, and none of that integrated into Spotify particularly well. So I had a Russian get into my Spotify account. Great, So for like six months it was like nothing but Pitbull songs. I'm like, which, what the fuck is this? I have hull is big everywhere, man, he's mister worldwide. What are you talking about? But but yeah, Spotify is like hooked up to like all of your devices, So all of a sudden, I'm listening to something and then all of a sudden, like pit Bull comes up, and I'm like, what the fuck is going on? He has a way of just popping up. It's not that. Yeah, that is that is what happens with pit Bull. No one. No one sets out to listen to pit Bull. Pit Bull just happens to you, and you're like, oh no, it's like someone walked by your desk and farted. Gosh, shit man, exactly like god, oh pit Bull, does somebody walked by your desk and farted. MC's yeah, I guess, uh yeah, yeah. I signed up for Spotify for a trial just to see if I would use it, and I didn't. I canceled out the castle. I canceled it eventually, and then when Beats launched, I thought, well, let's sign up and try this. And it was basically the exact same catalog, presented slightly less well, but like they have their sentence thing. So it's like you you tell it your mood. It's like, I'm what is the It's like I'm hanging out of the skate park listening to hip hop with my entourage. Wait, bad libs, Yes it is, Matt. You fill out mad libs like you know you You're like, I'm relaxing at home with my shoddy and I want to listen to metal. And then it'll like fucking give you a playlist. Yeah, I'll get just give you pit Bull. The problem is that I would want to approach that like you were supposed to approach mad libs, which is the type of complete fucking nonsense into those blanks. Well you don't type, it's down, Yeah you can. You can't parse, like when you say, like I'm taking a ship. Then I want to hear some jazz and then pit Bull comes on. It's appropriate venue? Man, uh man, the hell's going on in here? I haven't been here in like a week. Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, I guess yeah, okay, yeah, I guess you were. I'm just thinking, like, no, you were here for the last podcast. Oh great, yeah that was Oh I don't know stuff. Man. Video games are happening. Video games are now. Yeah, they're very now. They're they're super now, like super they're the future. They're like the HBO. Video games are of music. Yeah, I understand there's music in video games sometimes. Yeah, but we can talk about that later. Yes, yeah, we'll get to that later. Let's see you over there. I'm getting excited. Call them yourself, Okay, need the learn old self restraints. That's right, I played the old blood oh, okay, we'll keep talking about video games. Yeah, that's what we were getting alright. Like it's just like a card game where we just lay stuff stuff out of it. I played the witcher. I just want to make sure nothing of note happened in this office that I know that I need to be aware of. Yeah, pit bull cruise by raccoon in the event, Yeah, is there a raccoon of events? I sometimes I smelled dead animal or garbage in this building, and I don't know, like sometimes like today, there was a bad smell today, and I wasn't sure if like someone was making something real bad in the kitchen, just in our around our desks. It wasn't today, But you were complaining about that smell the other day. That was actually that Skittles candle that someone sent in. I don't think it was that. Okay, I let by my desk, but it smells super weird. There's something that smells like garbage or like a dead thing composing. Is this when you say garbage as a generic term for bad smell or like literal like like literal landfill. Okay, there's a new trash can filled with wires next to my desk that just showed up this morning. I don't know. We have a bunch of new network jacks at our desks too. I don't know what the fuck's going on. Yes, I came in. Yeah, there were cable splayed all over the place. I walked over to game Spot to bug Danny about something and there was a dude there actually making those cables happen over there too, So I don't know what they're doing about once a week I come in dark fiber. They're pulling dark fiber. I come in like once a week, and all the stuff on my desk has been very subtly moved around. Yeah, like very subtly, like a cleaning sort of thing immediately immediately. Just makes me wonder if somebody's doing it on my desk. It's never more than like one or two items on mine. It'll be like a pog is flipped over, right, Yeah, like just a few things are moved an inch or two weeks. So that to the Mario party. Yeah, they walked away and never came Yeah. Yeah, or is in a drawer somewhere, but we don't No, I have not found it. We'd lost like three controllers. You said that was a modded one. Yeah. Yeah, they had the tabs taken out in the back. That's right. That was one we were gonna play that Japanese Mario Party three on. Yeah. To be fair, that's not the most difficult mods. Yeah, yeah, every sixty four is potentially a modded in sixty four. I'm so mad when you get right down to it. Strange things are a foot in this office. Yeah, that's all I know. Tables, dead coons, pit bull. Yeah yeah. Our our desk clusters right down the hall from the kitchen. But the worst thing I ever smell is when somebody Marc awaves some fish. Somebody was toasting some pizza to day and the whole place smelt great. Yeah I don't know, Yeah it smelled that's it smelled like a rat died somewhere or that that kind of like landfill smell, landfill smlash, animal smell. I don't know. But it wasn't like super strong, so I thought like, well maybe, I mean, you know, we have our windows opened down to an alley. Who knows what's going on down there. I've seen some stuff. Yeah. I don't like it when the worry is that there's a dead animal somewhere, because you want to isolate it and get rid of it, but I also don't want to see it. I don't like seeing sure, like decomposing stuff. Yeah, it's super fucking girls messed up. But also like in some cases if if like it's the dangers of using rat poison if you have rats, is that the rats eat the poison then go off into your walls and die, or you can get them and you just have to fucking wait it out and go like, well, they'll eventually decompose down to a fun little rat skeleton, but until then, it's gonna smell like death, which is the worst possible aroma that you can live in. That's what happened in that sauce Leto basement for a while. Remember wait, when was that? Uh maybe it was real early, I don't know, but there was like we had to fucking vacate the premises for a little bit. Did the animal get removed? I don't know they were, Yeah, I think it might have, or maybe they didn't find it, because I don't remember that it was. It was a hot summer and a real stinky one thing. Yeah, I had the same happened with a mouse. Actually isn't poison got up in the roof. This is done in the basement though, so it's like those little elevated roofs. I guess. So you push in the u the things, the squares or whatever, and it was somewhere up in there. We could never find it though, but man, that was a stench. It's just like a month, just like, well, this is all that my life now? All that from from a mouse? Yeah, tiny little animal, big bad smell fucker, it's discussing. Yeah, what is this podcast? Dan? Yeah, let's talk about Wolf's Time. Yeah, I guess, tell me about it. What is it? Really cool? The Old Blood? Old Blood? What was the other one called The New Order? The New Order? Got it? Okay? Yes, that was a full sixty dollars game. This is a standalone deals, it's a downloadable it's a video game. Yes, it is a video game, and it's a prequel. It's yes, the events of the Old Blood take place before. Yes. I feel like everything about this thing can be described by the fact that they just remade the box art from the original wolfs tign three D. Yeah, it's prett for the title screen. Yeah. Yeah, so it's just that right. Yeah, it's awesome, Like it plays like the first one there's some new you know, weapons stuff, like there's this pipe that you can use. The first one, meaning okay, the last one, I guess got it, but yeah, I guess it. Originally was going to be like two DLC packs for the New Order, and they just kind of stitched them together. But I mean you can tell, like there are two very distinct like four chapters and four chapters, and they're both kind of tell their own story, but they're stitched together. Like at the end of the first one, you get on like a rowboat and you basically go to the next one. But it's basically like two really good DLC packs. So and it does actually kind of go together naturally. It doesn't feel like they're just tossing this thing off that like this is gonna be DLC but here you go, like it for twenty dollars, it is a really good purchase. I probably put four or five hours into it. Oh really, yeah, Okay, let's I'm not I'm not going to say that's short, but that's shorter than I expected, you know, but that actually kind of sounds more appealing to me. Yeah, because I was kind of bite size. Yeah, I did them a couple of longer sittings, and god, I just had a great time with it. It just reminded me of how good The New Order was, Like it just felt great. It runs really good on PC, which is where I played it. But yeah, it's it's two different stories. One of them is kind of stealth heavy at the beginning, and then the whole like second story is kind of zombie focused, so like, it'll be normal Nazi guys and then you shoot him and there's this flare of fire or whatever, and then there's zombies running at you. So it's Nazi Zonbie, It's it's Nazi zombies. The second part of it, you know, the Nazis and their love for the occult. Yeah, yeah, I played Spear of Destiny. I know full well ye about the Nazis and their love of the occulture. History Channels, Wolfenstein, three D, Coal and the Spear of Destiny. It's well documented. I want to ask you a question, yes, for the benefit of anybody who doesn't want to hear the answer, this will probably spoil the end of the thing. You've had your time to prepare, La la la la. Do you fight robo Mecha Hitler? No? What there is a big fight at the end. There's not a Mecca hit Is it any form of Hitler? No? Okay, so does this does this take place after Wolf and Stein three D? Then? Man, dude, if you like, I know I need to know, get your Hitler historia out and we'll fucking dissect them. Okay, There's always a boy and an elf and it grows up to become bj blasta which got it. It's a different Hitler every time, right, right, It's a different boy and a different Hitler every time. I can't actually, I can't even remember if did New Order suppose that three D happened? Like, was that all one timeline? It did? I am? I thinking about the Wolf Stein cannon too hard? Here you are? It did the stuff where you like you have the nightmare and then you're just playing Wolf and you're playing Wolf, which you can totally do in this right too? Right? Just you know, I don't know about story wise, Laura wise, because like an episode three if I remember that was the Die I Fear or Die one? That was the Mecca Hitler one. Yeah, but wasn't there an episode six where he was back as some like wizard guy that floated around and I vaguely remember this well, that that episode six had that wasn't Spear of Destiny the add on. I mean, no, Spear of Destiny was a separate standalone release. Okay, always I what you're thinking about. The only one I ever had was a doss thing that you would load up and you could pick one of six episodes. There were six episodes in full. Really I never was more. It wasn't four, it was six. And yeah, I always loved killing Mecha Hitler, so I always went right to three. But I do vaguely remember six having like bosses were all crazy, but I don't. I don't think it was. I don't know that it was a Sorcerer Hitler. I want to say it was, but man, it's Hitler. Was I can't answer that question. But no, no Hitler and uh and then the Old Blood it's already it takes place after events is robot suit and I just went bad. I just liked the idea of reimagining that fight in some modern fashion. They seem to reference the old games an awful lot, like screenshots laying on the ground of cells and stuff, just like the box art. Basically, I feel like I feel like I went like in world, like, yo, let's just go to picture of this weird game from the nineties. Wait, which, remember why why is Jimi Hendricks in the in the New Order? Because that's cool cool? Yeah, yeah, I don't know, Like, I like, Wolfenstein feels like such a weird thing that is so detached from its original thing that they just cram in references to the original just go like, hey, there was an old game like this. Yeah, just like the new blake Stone did they're all those you know of course, yeah, yeah, when they put out blake Stone last year, all these weird references to Aliens are gold. Sure, it's just so good at And the New Order did this too, to where like I would go into rooms and stuff that we're just crawling with guards and try to do the stealthy approach and like, okay, I'm gonna try to find the commander. I'm going to silence him. So he came to the alarm and then just something goes to shit. Immediately some dog barks at you, and then everyone's shooting you, and you immediately transitioned into like fuck it just dual wheeling. This whole thing they're on grenades go crazy like that transitions great. That was a kind of hindrance to me early on because I wanted to play it stealthily, like it would go wrong and I'd be like, fuck, like I should restart the check one. I could do better than this. Like I came away from a lot of encounters thinking I could do that better, and it ended up taking me like a little while to just finally go, ah, fuck it, I'm gonna gun these people down. It's Wolfenstein, who cares well. They're both fun, like the dual wielding gun everyone down. It's awesome, but all like the X Starberries guys or whatever, Like Riddick had incredible stealth. Yeah, it's one of the few games that did like first person stealth really well. And you can tell it's the same guys here because the stealth is good if you're good at it, right, But I suck at it. So it usually just ended with me with you know, two shotguns or whatever. New Order felt a little bit to me though, like a game. It's like a stealth game that didn't know it was a stealth game. You know. It was like the mechanics were there, but like totally yeah, yeah, but it would do stuff like rewarding you for like finding the Commander and silencing Hid before he can do the A lot of stuff was there. It just wasn't obvious and it always felt a little like clumsy to me in a way. But whatever, whatever flows your boat. I liked it a lot. I thought the Old Blood is definitely worth checking out. I think if you did like the New Order, or if you never even played it, there a thing and just wanted like a lower Yeah, it seems like I wonder, I wonder what how much a copy of the New Order would cost these days? There was a there was a deal going around on the Xbox where you could get both for like something crazy. Yeah, yeah, I think that's on Steam too. I think I want to say, it's like forty and you get both. Is it? Is it just more of the New Order? Though? Like? Is it? Because because like I I like the New Order a lot. I really appreciate what it does, but I didn't finish it and like kind of felt like I'd played what I needed to play, Like I don't know if I need to go play this. I mean that's second half where it's more zombie, like, you know, that's some stuff that you know, New Order didn't really go into first half is kind of more what you what you expect from the New Order. But it's got some cool big set piece moments and stuff, like you're infiltrating this uh Giant Wolfenstein, keep undercover and then you get busted and toss and jail and then you have to escape and there's all these set piece moments and stuff. It's it's pretty cool. It's probably just me, but I think it would be really awesome if a Wolfenstein developer instead, just like Stealth, without telling Activision they were doing it, made a sequel to Castle wolfin Stein instead of Wolfenstein three D. Wait, does Activision own those rights? No? Wait what I don't think so, I don't like, does anybody own those rights? I don't know. The guy who programmed them passed away. Yeah, to be clear, we're talking about the Apple two game. Yeah, yeah, the original Castle Castle Wolfstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, which like I think it or when they like in the early nineties cited that as their inspiration did but then I don't know that they necessarily went and did paperwork for it. Maybe they did in years later or something to like so like sew that ship up pretty sure they said they didn't. Yeah, but like it was, that was a really weird thing. Like I remember at the time because I was a huge fan of Castle Wolfenstein. It was fucking awesome. Like you would just run around and point guns at Nazis and stick them up and steal their fucking uniforms and look at all the sauer Kraut. What the fuck is the sauer Kraut for this stupid eating And you shoot a chest full of grenades, blow up the whole castle, and then it would randomly generate the castle every time you had to start a new game, or you could well what was it if you in cases where you accidentally fucking shot a thing of grenades and blue the whole castle, it would have to generate a new castle, but if you died, it would let you respawn at the start of the same castle, so you'd remember parts of it. Yeah, you played it on some show, did yeah in the last year. And then beyond Castle wolf Stein you had like passes and you could bribe guards and shit. It was fucking crazy. That's kind of ahead of its time a little bit. Yeah, I don't know, but yeah, that was a rad game. So when like seeing like like that. Like I was confused at the time because I was like, wait, they made another Castle Wolfinstein. I was like, well, there's no sour crowd or there's you know that I can't walk up to chests and open them, I guess, but this is still cool. I shot all those dogs, those guys said die, I'll exhin hun. Yeah. Yeah, it was cool in an entirely different ways. So I don't know, like I would just it would be so rad if like someone got ahold of wolf and Stein and just like said like, no, man, we're fucking we're making this instead. I do wonder how that works now, Like Bethessa has to have sown all that stuff up, you'd think, to the point to the point where nobody else could make a game named Wolfenstein. Sure, yeah, it couldn't be like a Ghostbusters, real Ghostbuster situation where someone goes and gets the rights to Castle wolf and Stein and then I mean that word didn't exist before the games, right, Like Wolfenstein isn't an actual German word for anything. I don't know enough German to tell you one way or the other. All I know is mind Laban and the fun that is. I don't know us that's the s s I believe. Yeah, that's all the Germans I know. All right, all right, well cool, I might I might check that out. It's cool. That's one point. Uh. I'm gonna pivot over to Jeff here hello, because he's been playing the game. The game needs to be discussed, I know. I mean I have played a little bit of The Wischer three, right, Yes, the bargo is up, it's not out till next week, but not the video embargo. Yes, the talking sat embargo. Yeah, it's strange, Like we can do video review. We can do if we were doing video review, we could do one. But yeah, they're like long video. No, Like I whatever's go do a Videole's do a quick look at I mean the number that's gonna come out of the New York office, I think. Anyway, So it's fine. Yes, we have a die hard Witcher fan on staff. Yeah he's not here, yes, yeah, yeah, I'm a fair weather fan. Yeah yeah, I mean I see. I guess he read the books. That automatically qualifies. Yeah. Yeah, it's so. I was kind of approaching The Witcher three a little tentatively originally, and then when Danny came back from the developer with a bunch of footage about a month ago. I looked at that and said, like, that looks fucking awesome. God, that looks good. Uh and and was excited. You know, it sounded like, you know, they talked about some things like, oh, you know, like the combat's going to be a little more familiar, you can have these open world kind of considerations, this sort of stuff. I thought, well, you know, maybe this will end up being the Witcher game for me. I don't think this is the Witcher game for me, though, Yeah, I don't know. It's ID So I ended up not playing that much of it because they sent it to us on PS four a build that had the Day one patch preinstalled, and then it like crash twice during the Gwent tutorial, which Gwent is there like card game that they put in there? There's a card game in there? Yeah, yeah, something like that. So at that point I kind of moved away from it a little bit after like, Okay, I don't want to do that again. So, uh so I've not played a ton of it, but I don't know, man, Like the combat is exceedingly straightforward, like it's you know, you hit the block button if you well, time your block. It's a perry, but you can block, yeah, right off the back. Yeah, yeah, you don't have to put points into block to block. Okay, you know, you can kind of swing the shit out of your sword, like there is a stamina meter. But it seems, you know, fairly forgiving compared to how I remember the Witch or two being at the outset of that which I played that pre all the revamping they did to Witch or two. So like, I've found that game somewhat impenetrable at the time. That's bitty people. That's why they included a tutorial mode. Yeah, yeah, they added that. Yeah, and so yeah, they eventually tried to address that stuff. But yeah, I don't know, like there's just something about the way it moves. I thought the PS four version, you know, based on what I saw, I didn't necessarily run great. Uh. There were parts of it that looked perfectly acceptable, but I don't know, it just seemed a little jankie. Some of the character movement, some of the like animation and cut scenes and stuff like that didn't didn't really do you think about that game is like a graphical powerhouse, which, uh, it's kind of what I was expecting, which it seems like those were the expectations kind of coming out of E three and you know, hearing you guys come back from appointments talking about our great it looked, and stuff like it looks really good. But uh, the attribute any of that sude it being like a weird build or anything, is they? I mean, according to them, like this is what people are reviewing. Like people people that will run reviews this week played this and I've certainly heard from other people that they've encountered issues. So I'm not really sure what that means. But it's not retail, so we don't really know. We don't know for sure, but they did. They did say it's got that day one patch. Yeah, this is their kind of sanctioned like, hey, this is what people will play on day one. According to them, this is this is what reviewable is. You know, I guess it's always possible that's like a beta version of the patch exactly or something. It might not be what's actually belong or there could be a day two pat. You know, like there's so much that could happen between here and launch day. Even still with a week to go, we look back at the witch or two like that head. It's fair share of bugs, for sure, it was. It was kind of a rough start, so not even just bugs like you said, like like significant amounts of content added after the fact, try to try to smooth it out for people. Yeah, so you know, like I'm not saying this to like scare people, Like I literally played like three hours of it and you know, but but I also played that and had it crashed a couple of times, so you know, I don't know, did you get any sense of like did you just get out into the world and kind of grasp the structure of the game, like what you're going to travel like that sort of stuff, Like you know, I kind of basically you start preparing for a hunt, uh you know, as part of kind of as it's showing you going through the motions, like the first thing that you're you're chasing after Jennifer, who's a lady. I'm sorry, I have not played enough Whitcher to know how significant that. Oh yeah, offer right, okay, yeah, and uh that much I grasp, but uh yeah, so you're you're kind of hunting her down originally, and to get information you have to do you know, odd jobs for people, so you know, in the tavern, you're talking to people, shaking them down for info, and you got to go talk to these guards and they kind of say like, hey, it's really cool that you want to know this information. We have a griffin that's fucking people up around here. What do I say? So it kind of will kick you off into kind of like it sounds like you'll be setting up traps and hunting the griffin from there. But yeah, they've shown a decent amount of the kind of big monster combat, so the game kind of gets you into that pretty early on. But you know, you're you're you're out in the world. Like they do some really nice stuff with some of the movement with uh, like you get on your horse, you just like double tap like R three year L three or whatever it is to call your horse. You can get on it whenever is that new. You can basically get on row with the horse and hold down X and it will just follow the road even if it curves, which is pretty cool. Just like go to your way point or whatever. Yeah, it'll kind of it. Well, no, it'll just follow the road. So you have to kind of go like, oh, wait, no, that's not actually where I'm going. Will it run or do you have to like tappen holding X is like the middle speed, tapping X is the high speed, So you can't high speed and have it stick to the road. I don't think I think it'll it'll deviate at that point, but that it reminds me a little bit of the Farker I four auto drive function. Sure, yeah, like, yeah, I like whatever fast travel has been around for ages in open world games, but I feel like, I feel like there are all these other mechanisms now for just like just get me where I'm going without without me doing anything. Yet it seems it seemed like a relatively elegant system. Okay, but there's also fast travel. You'll find you know, signs in the world and you know, walk up to them and can fast travel to any other sign. Basically, Again, I know you don't have a ton of time in it, but did you feel like you could just kind of wander and find stuff? Sure? Yeah, well I don't know about finding stuff. I wandered and found fights, you know, fought various enemies wolves, wolves, wolves. How's the combat? Right? Yeah, that's always something that I really liked. And then which or two, like everything's like super like overly animated. I think, so it makes you really this you've really got to like be deliberate in a dark soul sense in a little bit. So yeah, I definitely agree with you about which or two. Like, I think that was one of the turnoffs for me was that this doesn't feel like that. Okay, interesting, Like this feels like you have a light attack, heavy attack, go to town. Like it's maybe a little bit you know, you've got animations that you can be interrupted if you're if you're not timing them properly, but you know, like it seems like the move is too uh you know, properly time your block, which creates a peri opportunity and then just counter off that. There we go. Uh, and so you just kind of counter off your blocks and murder wolves all day long. Have you fought anything that like really required you to switch up to magic like in the middle of combat. No, not really. You start with like four or five different spells. You start with kind of the fire telekinesis and push stuff. Traps. Yeah, one trap. Yeah. It was a pretty decent combat tutorial that you can skip if you like, but you know kind of walks you through some of that stuff. And I thought that was effective it kind of showing you the ropes. But yeah, the magic like you know, agne or whatever, the kind of default fire spell never really seemed that powerful anyway. It's not it's not like a it's like you're burning things to the ground. It seemed like, yeah, some sparks. Yeah, I don't know, so like it's it seems potentially interesting, but it didn't. You know, like there there are things about it that like seemed rough right out of the gate. Uh, you had mentioned we talked about it some before, just like stuff with like the turning radius some stuff. Yeah, some just some of the character movements, so like you know, like walking through tight doors into a tavern with the you know, again, it's the PS four version i'd seen any other version of the game. Just you know, I felt like it's just fidgety, like the movement speed and like a lot of stuff just to feel right. That's that that goes back to like the overly animated stuff. Yeah, yeah, maybe a little bit tough to like fine tune your movement. He spends a lot of time on a horse, is it is it like a lot of it's a little stiff, Is it a lot of momentum type stuff to where like you want to stop them and still is a little bit of that. I never I never recognize the value of that stuff in in any game ever. Like people say they want it to be like realism or whatever, but if it comes at the cost of actually controlling correctly, I don't like they'll like just like like characters taking a couple extra steps after you let off the stick or or or yeah, like kind of being super unwieldy in terms of turning and stuff like. It just doesn't it doesn't feel good. It's stuff that, yeah, like like that's kind of I would actually sum up my time with the game by saying I don't think it feels good. And you know, people that are more into Witcher will probably have a lot to say one way or the other about some of the changes they've made and the scope of the story and stuff like that. But like first impression kind of you know, in terms of like hoping this would be the game that grabbed me because I could really go for a gigantic, open worldy kind of questy thing. I I don't think this is the game for me, all right, I've got high hopes. Yeah, I'm still super excited to check this out. Yeah, you should and dig it to it kind of like you. I've never quite felt the pull of that series at the right time, like when it was big and I felt like I should hop in while everybody. I am really curious to see how the PC version looks. Yeah, you know that seems like that obviously seems like it would be the version. Yes, yeah, I like whatever. I wanted to give too much air time to the stuff, but you know, people are already kind of digging into like concept footage that was out a couple of years ago versus like trailers that are popping up now. But but we did, uh. Vinnie and I ended the last two E threes with like forty five minute which or three demos. Yeah, and both of those cases, they were played in front of us, you know, like there's a guy playing the game on a PC yea, and it looked fucking fantastic. Yeah, So like, forget whatever trailer stuff is out there, Like I want to see if that's the game they ended up making that we saw, yeah, because that existed at some point at least those demos did. Sure, I'm curious to see how it looks. Yeah, I'm curious to kind of see what people think about it that are that are digging into it more like if more if people are experiencing the same sort of issues that I saw or whatever. But but yeah, I did not play it for a ton of time and not sure. Well whatever, I'll check out the PC version. I think, maybe give that a look and see, you know, if it just if it controls a little better there or you know, like mouse and keyboard or something, or what the deal is. But yeah, I don't know. It's weird. It's weird. It's weird, like kind of it's such a bind that we're in. Sometimes there's a weird time crunch where you've got this like what is this like one hundred hour games? They say it's two hundred hours two whatever, you know whatever their pit like, oh, you know, if you just run through it, it's way faster. But hey, like you know, the piece of this little slip of paper they dropped off with, it's like, hey, take your time, right, Okay, sure, that's totally yeah, there are no other games or no one's planning e three right to take your time. But you know, like marketing marketing bullet points aside, like it's safe to say there probably is. You know, there are probably are dozens of hours of stuff in here, absolutely, so I have zeroed out of that. Right. So, like having this kind of early version that's potentially not totally final and then you see a bunch of rough spots in it, it's like, well, I cannot play through this entire at the eighty hour game and then switch over to the final version in two weeks and do that again. You know, it's like, kind of that's a good point. I think I've kind of choose your battles here. Uh yeah, it's kind of as soon as I encountered some stuff like that, it just seemed like, Okay, I'm gonna kinda back away from this build the game. No exactly what you mean. Like, there's just this kind of impetus to have as close to the real consumer experiences as you possibly can do. You get the sense that it'll be good to jump into for people that didn't spend a lot of time with the first two. Uh. You know, it's got some options in there as to whether you want to like do some which or two related stuff I want to I don't know for sure, but like you know, because PS four. Obviously, you know there's no which or two saved import but I wonder if it'll take your save on the PC, yeah said one way or the other out there. I don't know, but because I heard about decisions in which are two that like change the entire WORL and like which or two had stuff where it would kind of like basically, you know, characters would ask you questions about ship from which are one and you would answer it and that would fill in the gaps. So there, I think there's an option here that will let you kind of go through some of that stuff or not that'll probably let you shape the world to some degree. That way, they did a pretty good job of yeah, circum betting that stuff. I just wonder if there's I wonder if there's any like one cannon ending or whatever, you know, like because I heard that there was a pretty huge decision in the middle of which or two? So I wonder if like one of those is the real ending, right like the Meryl or Auticon ending, you know, you stuff to say, yeah, yeah, unlock auticon. Halfway through which or two? People's came out, Yeah, okay, cool, I got the Bandanna Alligator? Hello, what were you saying bugs the shit out of you. Oh, open world stuff like Mass Effect. You know, when there's so many different avenues and choices, I like to have a canonical ending, like one particular storyline. I guess like you're like, hey, storyteller, tell me a story exactly. Don't make me feeling up when I don't. Yeah. Yeah, if I don't know, like what the ending is going to be, I get hung up on those choices and like got shit. Like I almost wonder if we're ready to close the book on like grandiose narrative choice and video games never feel like it's ever should be wonderful, but like if you think about how it's worked out in recent in some recent history, like I look at Mass Effect as like the the big offender there. Yeah, it's definitely the most infamous example. You know, you get to you get to Mass Effect three, and then it's just like, here are all these arbitrary things from the two previous games that we are closing the book on in two sentences, or here's this thing that we're making a reference to that you did two games ago, just to prove to you, right that we know what you did. It's just like It's like every five minutes, mass Effectory is saying is this your card? And you're like, oh, it was, yeah, what about ya? That thing I did three years ago? It was just barely drifting back in up my memory. Ray we punched the reporter, remember, it says, yeah, hey, the Spider Queen is still but but and in a lot of cases, the same events would play out. It's just like who was was depending, like like whatever manifested this stuff that, like you know, just yeah, you see the gears turning, you see that ship coming back together. It feels like a video game fucking plot device and not actually closing up your narrative, right, Like if a game did justice to that. I think that that is still the holy grail for like story touch games. Sure, but I mean, obviously it's fucking impossible not to just have like your diamond shaped thing that's going to come together one of a couple of ways or something, you know, you know, I mean, making games is a very arduous process, and if you're gonna split the story like that, you have to account for all these different possibilities, like here's a ton of content that no one will see because you know they're not going to see it. I don't, you know, it's the telltale episodic stuff makes more sense because it's just a lower cross of development. Absolutely, Like I I finally scratch my way through the last third of four over the weekend and like, oh yeah, that stuff I put the story stuff is like it's fine in the moment. Yeah, like the way it like if you if you play it both ways, you're like, oh, I put yeah, exactly, Like I put arguably too much thought into which which rebel leader I wanted to side with, because like I feel like they set that up. They set that conflict up with some like pretty conflicted shades of gray. You know. It's like they did, but I don't know this guy. This guy wants to do away with the drug trade, but he also like wants to uphold the tradition of like child brides and that stuff, and like this lady wants to fund the glorious new future of the nation with opium fields. You know, It's like I felt better about choose. I felt way better about opium fields than about child Broughd. That's where I ended up siding with her too, but but then gunned that motherfucker down, so I'd actually, so I made it even more complicated because when she sent me so I sided with her, and then when she sent me to kill him, you don't actually have to kill him and he gets away. And I was, like, this game have like six endings took account for all these combinations. Nope, like like the whole thing, all that whole thing that they set up over the course of the entire game, manifesting like two lines of dialogue after the credits and like, apparently there's some stuff out in the world. You can go see that the hinges over you let him live or whatever. No, no, no, it's it's I think it's purely who you pick as the leader, Like you can go visit one or the other afterwards and kind of see what they're doing. And it sounds pretty minor, But aren't you missing on like whole missions depending on you think? It's so much content. That's how I choice that is seemingly you know, well, I mean it's in far cry. You make the decision. You're you're choosing which of two missions you want to go on at that point, and I was then it kind of sinks back to the master storyline and goes it's not Okay. I was like, hey, there are five mission chains that you know come off of. This is like pick whichever mission sounds more fun. That's what I did. Like the one was like, hey, blow up the factory, like fly a helicopter and blow up this whole factory or do something lame. Yeah again and blow the factory. I got. I got maybe, like I said, kind of too invested in like which side was like kind of more morally superior, but then yeah, just to have it manifest in like kind of nothing at the end of the game was yeah, and it's every king. So I mean like at some point, like like you can say that's a failing of farcry forbe or you can say that's a failing of like narrative in Yeah, that's why a lot of games. That's why I say, like, are we ready to just like write this potentially great feature off as a failed experiment because who's done it well? Like I think it's getting better, it's get Yeah, it has the potential to get better. But also I think it's more that like you know, there's maybe the bar for narrative in games it is pretty low. That's fair Westerado that does a good job with that. Yeah, West Tourado. Actually, yes, by virtue of like being this like small, like graphically ambiguous, you know, it's like, yeah you can, you can go all kinds of crazy ways in that game. Yeah, my uncle turned into a ghost exactly. Okay, the more I hear because he shot him. Oh right, says he killed his uncle, but he was but he's an important like tutorial character. So even if you murder, you're fucking Oh I thought you meant it was like chief he was tortured by the fact that he was murdered by his nephew. He came back. Oh, he just hangs out on the ranch and still helps you with tutorials even though you murder. No, he just needs to tell you how the controls work. Yea. Yeah, yeah, pretty good. Everything I hear about that game makes me feel like I need to play that game. It's it's really neat. It's really really neat. And the version that they're putting out on Steam, like it's significantly different from you know, it feels more fully featured than the flash game that they did for you know, originally, I'll check that out. I still hope the Witcher three is really neat. I guess we'll find out more. Yeah, you know, like I'm sure certainly not passing final judgment on this thing, but you know, like my first impression didn't necessarily make me want to dig into much deeper, all right, Jeff? Anything else, Well, I did play a little more West Toronto. We did talk about that a little bit, but uh yeah, I think that's that's a great deal of fun. I play a little bit of Decks, which is uh it's on Steam. It's like twenty bucks. It's like a cyberpunk action RPG side scroller. Okay, so you're kind of climbing ladders, running around, jacking into cyberspace, punching dudes in the fucking face. Is it d X or d e c k X. Yeah, there are quite a few of the other kind of dick in cyberpult. That's the thing, you know, you I think as you play as Decks, I think is I think your name is yeah, yeah, yeah, and she is a woman who could jack into cyberspace without a plug in her neck. Okay, yeah, so uh yeah, it's you know, it's clicking spot. The voice acting, I think it is pretty bad, but it's interesting. It has a lot of dialogue choices. The early quests kind of look like that. Yeah, the early quests have like multiple ways through them, so it's like, if you spend a point in lock picking, you can just bypass this ship, or you have to negotiate to get a key from a guy, or take this side route that is a little that has difficult traps along the way and stuff like that. So it's it's interesting. There's something too that we recorded a quick look at that people should should give that a lot bit should be out already. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty much it. I don't know. We got an Xbox one copy of Project Cars that I want to check out a little bit of. But uh yeah, an't know. I'm sitting on a copy of Puzzle and Dragons with Mario in it that I'm pretty excited to look at. I'm gonna I'm gonna put that into night. I think, give it a go, put it in But nothing, Dan, Yes, sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off earlier. I I just knew the Jeff head which you're waiting in the wings. Yeah, yeah, did you play anything else? Played a couple of hours of Castle Storm. Yeah. I always like to keep up to date on the Games with Gold and the PSN you know stuff. So Xboxes is Castle Storm Defend of the edition. Oh is that like the new the free free Games with Gold? Yeah? Yeah, okay. I saw a few people playing it over the week on and I'm like, okay, it's interesting. I don't think it's great, but it's kind of fun. So basically, each mission, for the most part, is like you've got a castle on the left, they've got a castle on the right, and you can control this ballista and you've got you know, basically weapons and stuff that activate on a cool down. Like your basic one. It's just like one javelin, but then there's a three javelin, and then there's rocks that split off, kind of like in an Angry Birds kind of way, So like you hit a once and it launches the stone, and then the head of the gannet splits into three and you need to destroy their castle. It's kind of it's kind of Angry Birds plus Tower Defense. Yeah exactly. We did a quick look at the three sixty version way back win Okay, Yeah, but yeah, that game is cool. Yeah. So you're also getting troops and stuff too, though, so you can pick a load out of like five troops to bring into battle. So it's like, here's a priest that will heal all like iron horseback Stronger or enter Trooptra troop, and so you can hit X to send all these troops out. Well, at the same time, you're using the analog stick and A to launch your ballista stuff. And then you can also pick these hero characters and summon them to the battlefield and then have direct control over them and go around and hit X to attack and stuff. So you're kind of managing a lot of stuff at one time. Yeah, I remember that game being super hectic. It's like should I mean, if you're spawning troops, like it's kind of macro reversus micro. Right, It's like I can either be pumping out troops constantly to meet their waves, or I can get down there with my hero guy and just like hack and slash it up. Or I can just focus on like shooting shit at the castle and trying to take the whole thing, just doing the angry bird stuff. Yeah. Yeah, Yeah, it's like three different things happening at once. Yeah, And like you'll get really into like launching your javelins or whatever and then realize like, oh, I have no guys on the field, and all of their dudes are getting close to my castle. I better sponse some dudes to hold them off or whatever. So yeah, it's very hectic, but I don't think necessarily in a bad way. But yeah, I don't think it's great. I know it's on we you and I could see it being a lot better with being able to tap specific spots rather than have to use the left hand bostick the game the blista and everything is that. Do you know that that's how it works on with you? Are you sure? I don't. I just kind of assumed when I saw it was on there, I was like, man, if you can do that on the game pad and like tap directly where you want to shoot your stuff, that would be a lot that it could be too easy, Like you want some mystery and you know you want to be able to have to dial in your shop. I mean you'll still have to like lead stuff because like there will be like wolves and stuff that run really fast. And but yeah, it's it almost kind of reminded me of cannon Brawl in that way, to where you really have to manage a lot of stuff at once. I think I like Cannon Brawl a lot better. Yeah, I can't. Oh yeah, Cannon Brawl is that game we played? Yeah, it's it's always you should do that guys first got here, right, I would did that ever get out of early access? I want to say it is actually, let's I want to do that on upftly been a while. That games awesome. Yeah, that games cool. Yeah. Uh but but for a free game, like, there's a lot of content in this. There's a ton of campaign levels. I haven't really dove in to the online multiplayer, but it seems like there's a lot that was I played some in the quickly look it's fun. Like the multiplayer is actually pretty good in that game. Yeah, because it's not a bad game. It's in studios, right, yes, the pinball people, yep, yeah, so the portal pinball people. Oh right this yeah. So for a free game, it's a it's well worth downloading and check it out for a little bit. You'll know within thirty minutes if you like it and want to keep going or not. I feel like I have missed probably the last like three or four months of games with Gold games like I feel like the PlayStation plus three games just like Float into my awareness every month through like Twitter or whatever, but I just for some reason, I don't I never I never think to go see what the games are on the Xbox until they're gone, and then I just don't get them. There haven't been a lot. Like Pool Nation FX was one recently and that was pretty rough. Cherriot was one. I didn't really play much of that. Cherry didn't because they only do like what two games a month, three something like that. I want to say, like one Xbox one game. It's scene, it'll end up. Sometimes it'll be like from the first through the fifteenth is this, and then back part of the month it'll be this. Okay, they're kind of weird. They're up pretty much just like every month, here's the new stuff. Yeah. I feel like my PS four is like exploding with PS plus games that I haven't even touched yet. Yeah. Yeah, like literally every every month, like three to five games I've never played before just show up. I thought it was cool to like Race the Sun this was one of them, because that's a I played a bit of that on the PC. That's that's a really solid console game, is it too? It's a you know, just the control is very easy you're just piling a little ship, and you know, it's like it's almost like a three D runner type thing, but not endless. Oh okay, it's only I guess suppose. I suppose its endless if you're really good at it. I've heard of that game for ages, and I've never checked it out. It's been around forever, so it's cool though. But yeah, I just I feel like somebody's doing a pretty good job of just stacking games up on a monthly basis. Maybe it just kind of random that it's stuff I never played. But yeah, yeah, I don't know, Like I look at it some of it and it's like, all right, here's more like I'm adding it all and not still overall like it's consistently like the best value in gaming. Yeah, that's a lot of stuff. Yeah, obviously not everything's gonna fit every taste, sure, and it only you know, it's extensive. It's if you if you have a Vita and a PS three, then it's you know, yeah, you get those games too. It broounces out. Yeah, sure, uh Dan, Other than that just a bunch of rogue Legacy. Legacy remains a good game. That's a great game. Jason that's all the Xbox One. Yeah, yes, yeah, I don't. I was playing on Xbox One, but I think specifics are embargoed, you know, real Xbox One specific Rogue Legacy exactly. So this game that came out a year ago or something, right, I guess I technically can't talk about that, But I mean, are you talking about battletoad stuff because they're at no. No, no, I'm just playing normals. So I think that's in Shovelment Battle. Yeah, Rogue Legacies. Yeah, Shevel and Night is the fucking soul caliber of this generation, saddest to the accept I like, Shell's a good game. Yeah, it's really good. I need to get back to that. Jason, Yo, Hi, what up? What up? Thanks for being here, Hey, thanks for thanks for inviting me. Man going on in your world? A lot of Mortal Kombat over the weekend, which has been trading me fairly well, Like I've been playing more on Xbox and PS four. Any reason for that? Yeah, I go back and forth, Like I've got a good core group of friends on Xbox, but it seems like most of the competition is on PS four right now, as far as the net code is concerned, that's still super hit or miss and versions. Yeah, just across the board. But I mean, some days it's better and some days it's really fucking bad. But yeah, I've been playing a lot of Jason Moore. He's super excited that he's out. He's like a really really strong character. I'd take him an awful lot, but not like boss strong, crazy, like man, pay for this character and you'll win all the time. Does not seem like that. He's kind of heavy, right, Yeah. So he's got three different very ends, you know, once the Slasher, which is more you know, combo based, what is it relentless where he gives a teleport and then an unstopped bubble, which is kind of cool because you get like buffs to your attacks and also if you finish out the or if you die, you'll actually get resurrected based on how much super meter you have, which is kind of neat. Okay, that's like a unique mechanic just for him. Yeah, just for that particular variance. Okay, so that's kind of cool. But yeah, I watched a little bit of Texas Showdown, which is a big fighting a tournament down in well, Texas. What yeah, believe it or not so. On fifteen watch Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, and apparently one of the streamers had all of his shit stolen out of the parking lot to put it all in his fucking car. And yeah car just like consoles, fight sticks and stuff. No, no, no, this is all streaming gear. So like, wow, cameras, hard drive, YEP, monitors and shit like that. That's not cheap. Yeah, they just they're apparently camp in his car. And then as soon as they yeah I got a window, they busted into it stole all of his fucking shit. That really really sucks. I hate people like that, man. How how does the how does that scene seem to be taking to MKX, Like like it seemed like there, you know, we saw we had like a pro on our stream the first day it was out, and that seemed cool, but I didn't know how Like, I don't know how much people were going to really dig into a people sticking with it or is it just that there's nothing else out right now? There's a little bit of all kinds of things. So the game's like fun rights, I like all the variant systems, you know, the game's deep, it's fun to play online, is horrible, right, So that's going to steer people away. However, NRS has been bumping up like the pot money for a lot of tournaments, which is really going to keep you know, pro players getting into it, and that trickled down. You know, if if pro players are playing it, people latch onto that and they'll start playing it as well. So until they get that online fix, I don't know how long the legs are. And if they stop you know, promoting the tournaments, I don't think many people will will keep playing it competitively because nine really tapered off in the tournament scene. Yeah for a while, really early on there were still that you know, the hardcore group of people, and I'm sure it made a really big showing it you know Evo that first year, but you know after that it just slowly started doing just just did a little bit better out there, didn't Yeah, I think so, yeah, that was my perception as well. Yea, And yeah, it'll be a big showing at EVO, and I know it's like you know, a top build for like Combo Breaker, which is coming up soon too. So yeah, right now, it's yeah, the community is pretty positive, just I think tentative like me, but have you guys. Have you guys fired up the PC version since that? And from a save dude, it's even more fun because I watched it after the patch nightmare, and it ran fine. They put out as a multiplayer and it was fine, like like, oh my god, yeah, I'm having it completely a different experience when I first booted it up, when it first came out. You know, there was that weird thing with the the update. Finally got that sort of and it ran fine for like two weeks and then yeah, they implemented that patch. Everything I fucked up. They've rolled back and rolled back again, rolled back, fixed the patch, patched again, yep. And after that later, I've been having the worst luck. Like it just it chugs, like and I've got a nice video card. It was a nine to eighty and you know it was running perfectly before all of this. Ship you're having problems on a night. I don't know what's going on. That's bad, So I might just like completely delete it, restart it. We'll see if that had that change that Did you lose any progress though? Yeah? You did? Yeah, if you have. If people don't know this patch they put out last week, upper cutted the head off of people's safe files super fucked up, and this was going to be the patch that It sounds like that the people that like got a hold of them and said, hey, am I safe got ditched? They just unlocked the crypt for all of them, didn't really, Yeah, oh god, I would. Yeah, I should probably do that or just sheets. Yeah, because because as as just laborious as the unlocked process seems in that game, just like it's ridiculous. Yeah, because I've got it. I've got three different versions, so it's like I unlocked most of the stuff on the PS four and then I'm lowly trickling into Xbox stuff and it's just fuck, it is no fun to do that. Yeah, just pay that twenty dollars man. That was one of these I was watching the day before that they put Jason out for people to so it's only out if you bought the season past. It's not out for individual sale yet. Like the day before they put that out, they had a stream where they kind of walked through Jason's stuff and they talked a little bit about some of the DLC stuff, which was some of the like worst PR bowls, And that was one of the justifications, was like you know, I'm playing on two versions, you know, and I unlocked all my stuff here, but I don't want to do it again, so I bought it there. It's like just sitting there my arms folded, looking at this fucking twitch stream to shaking my hat. Nope, Nope, that's that's unfortunate. Yeah, they need a way to fix that shot. But other than yeah, the fighting games, I've been like deeply entrenched into like turn based strategy stuff like just out of the blue, like a Chromo Squad came out, which is like that Power Rangers sim but it's like tactical turn based and it looked interesting to me because you actually like manage like a TV studio and stuff. It's like you're buying new cameras and shit like that. But as it turns out, like a lot of that stuff is just kind of passive. You know, you don't really manage the studio so much. You just buy upgrades, I guess to your carec So it's just a glorified like skill tree. You got it basically. So there's some interesting stuff that kind of goes on in combat. The director tells you a specific set of things that he wants to see in this scene, So you've got to make sure that you kill all the enemies before you fight the boss or finish off the boss with a you know, a finishing move or something like that, which adds a little bit of frustration because your score and the money that you get is solely based on like, you know, hitting these things. If you don't, you get shit, and it's not as if they give you a really easy way to retry the level unless you actually out. So there's some real frustrating shit going on and there. But the I guess as far as a comment is concerned, you know, the new mechanic or the interesting mechanic is like it's teamwork thing. So you can set up one character on a grid and just set them for teamwork, and that can be a number of different things. It's very dynamic. So if you run up to them, they can actually boost you and throw you to somewhere else in the field, which is kind of cool. Or if you come up and do an attack next to them and there's an enemy near you do like a double attack and stuff like that. So everything's contextual, like one of the characters will actually heal anyone that's that's standing around you if you go into like you a pose mode. But the humor is super hit or miss. They're breaking the fourth wall all the time, lots of memes and stuff, and yeah, not written very well. I'm not having a great time with it. Yeah, I thought i'd have a lot more because yeah, I really love like sentide natal power range of stuff. That's fun, that's goofy, But I'm not getting that. Yeah, it seems like like that concept of taking like that type of thing and into like a tactical RPG and then having the studio thing like, it seems like there's there's something there, but yeah, it's a neat idea for sure. Didn't get it out of it. Although seeing the response to this game has made me realize that there's now pandering to nostalgia that I am too old appreciate happening. Oh yeah in this space? Does that make sense? Power Rangers? I was like I was in the high school, in the in the college when that stuff got big. So like now that other games that are like pandering to people that are you know, I felt old, I mean is what I'm saying. Like, think about how much money a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazoo raked in yeah and going, oh man, sure, like that's the exact same. Yeah, probably other tactical stuff. Actually, along the the cyberpunk thing we've been theme we've been talking about, I've been playing a Shadow Run Chronicles. What you would think is a follow up to Shadow Run what Dragonfall or check? Yeah, Also it was what was it Returns or Returns was? Yeah, the original one a couple of years ago, and then yeah, they let out Dragonfall, which is like an updated version of of Return tactical you know, turn based up. But you're right, though, I assumed that all of the Shadow Run games were meeting being made by the same people as did I. Yeah, so when I when I checked that out, I'm like, oh wait, this is actually at a run online. That's how it was originally build when it first was announced, and I actually I bought it when it was like an early access and then like forgot about it, and then I'm like, oh shit, I gotta go get this new Shadow on Chronicles game, and then found out, oh wait, I've already got it. But yeah, like it's like it's a counterpart. It's still another tactical turn based RPG button instead of like the two D like painted backgrounds. These are all three D so you can actually rotate the camera, which is which is great. I really like that. And some of the modeling is really well done as well, and environments are like spot on. It's a it's a pretty damn good looking game, but it's a really stripped down version of Shadow Run. They take a lot of liberties with the game play. I guess they've certainly made it more gaming, but they're saying things like, you know, Shaman's using a manna, which is you know, strange in that universe. I know this means absolutely nothing to you guys, but Sam man fucking break I know. So next you can to tell me you can't make a giant dumb tree to heal the giant to bear and have it to cover, which is pretty much so. The online component is that you know, you have one major character that you're kind of working with the entire game, so all of your skills going into this one character. You're not managing an entire team. You can, however, hire NPC's, but they're not persistent, so you'll get like a random smattering of people to choose from if you want to go just like the offline, you know, rout just playing by yourself, hooking up with other team members like online people is probably your best bet. They make it a little hard to do though, because there's no like looking for group option or something like that, so that the chat is just like spam was just like okay, doing this mission, need two more, So you've got to like, you know, try and find a way to private message them, which you actually can't do either, which is a little strange. But but yeah, there's there's a lot of rough shits in this game. For as fun and streamline as it is, uh, it's it was marred with some really really bad server issues at the launch of the game. Yeah, you were saying it was just like taking broken as fun tons of time to like reconcile your turns and stuffick on something. Yeah, it'll take like five ten seconds before it'll actually register. They've ironed out a lot of that stuff. It turns out. It was like a weird middleware restriction that they had so once too many people got online and too many actions they were only licensed to carry so many, so it was throttling everything down. Man fucked up. But they've gotten Yeah, a lot of that stuff sorted out. I played a little bit last night, and yeah, it's it's still pretty cool. That's cool. It's weird, it's it's like forty bucks. I don't know if it feels it so like you're you're describing. This is a game that's had some issues and seems like it's missing features, and this is it's out of early access. It is out of early access, man. Yeah. Also, so they're also missing endgame content like them. It came out of early access contents broken. Yeah, there's something there to this game, but it's not there yet. I don't think I really like it. Also, I don't. I don't know much about this specific situation, But does the changing the name midstream part seem a little skiezy to anybody else? A little bit? But the fact that you bought this game and forgot about it and then saw it under a new name and didn't realize it was the same thing could be? Could be? I guess. I mean they've written a lot of like heartfelt apologies, you know, in like the steam forms and stuff. I think they're on the up and up with that, you know. I don't think that they change the name to uh, that's for anyone from U or you know, to like exactly. So, yeah, it's yeah, it's a shame. It's a that's a real shame. Chronicle still has a checkered history in video games. Yeah, it totally does. It seems, uh well for my part, because I addressed myself in my seat, I made the rookie mistake last week of taking a handful of days off and then getting super sick as soon as I left. I smooth. Yeah, I didn't play a whole lot, uh, other than the far Cry stuff, which I enjoyed a lot. But I'm kind of glad to have it out of my life in a way because I started it six months ago. Sure that's yeah, that's a long time. Yes, But you know, we talked about the kind of the main storyline choice stuff, and that's kind of whatever, Like, yeah, you know the through line of that game, just like I have, the rebel faction trying to take back their country is kind of whatever. But yeah, but I like, I like their less is more approach to kind of filling out the backstory though, like all the stuff with your parents, you know, it's like, oh, your mom was this kind of like like human godhead in this culture and the father was the founder of the resistance, and it's like, oh, you just go in knowing that, but then there's like way more that happened than that. Yeah, really unexpected finding like your father's journal, Like that's interesting stuff there. So there wasn't even a trophy on the journals, but I made a point of like literally filtering the map down to just the journal icons and going and finding all of them, because like once those kicked into gear and like you started learning what was happening, it was like I really want to know, like before I go face face off with the tyrant, I want to know what the hell actually was going on, right, you know, it took me like a long time to get invested in that storyline. Yeah, like I just couldn't identify with that character, I guess, whereas in the previous game, as shitty as those fuckers were, just say, you identified with fucking guy shit, Like I understood these guys and kind of where they were coming from. Like I wasn't like hooked, but I'd understand. I understand what was going on. As kind of an aside, I also appreciate the her character making references back to that asshole and the guy Jack from the first game and all that stuff. But but but yeah, like you know, there's there's some really specific elements of that character's backstory that you don't know unless like either a you do the fifteen minute ending trick. You know, they'll just like let it sit at the scene and it'll end. Then you'll learn a bunch of it that way, or even at the very end when you face off against the last guy, like what you do there to turn like you could. The point is you could finish this game without ever learning any of the actual like backstabby shit that went on between your parents and the deskpot and all that stuff. It's one of those games where you definitely want to go to YouTube and watch the other endings that you didn't see. Yeah, Like, you know, the storytelling was by no means perfect, but I thought they did some kind of interesting stuff with like tucking these nuggets away. Yeah, because I did the ending where it's just like, well, there you go, you're not learning anything. Yeah, So I did that too because I was afraid to not just take action when I had the chance. Yeah, exactly. And then like watching the other ones on YouTube, it's like, oh wow, it's like wow, yeah, yeah, yeah, but you know, but I kind of I kind of like the fact that that stuff is in there but not necessarily in your face and you don't like you trying, I have to go looking for it a little bit, you know, that sort of leads you along. It was cool. And then other than that, while I was lying around on the couch a lot, I watched almost all of the Double Fine Adventure documentary. Uh. I basically hadn't. I didn't want to jig into that stuff. Like I played through the first act of that game when it came out last year and really liked it, and did not want to look at any of the behind the scenes stuff until I played the whole game. But I cannot recommend that thing enough if, like, if you have any passing interest at all in the way video games are made, like you have to watch that thing, like it is incredibly in depth. I just dump everything on YouTube. It is, Yes, so it is. Yeah, that's kind of you know that you can still buy like a nice ten adp ad free version, and I like the one on YouTube. It's got like a little twenty minute like kind of commercial thing on the front of it and stuff but it is up on YouTube now if you want to just go watch it, and they're not actually done with it, because you know, if you think about it, the game just fully shipped like two weeks ago, like you know, they were probably still shooting footage right up until that and are probably still working on at least one more episode, if not more. But just like the range of topics they cover in that thing is really crazy, like everything from just like like really abstract like creation stuff. You know, it's like a where people get their ideas and all this stuff like follows follow the composer out into the woods and see what he's doing, to just like real nitty gritty like kind of keeping the finances afloat in a like a medium sized developer that's not really beholding any publishers. You know, it's like they do not make any bones at all about the fact that that company has really scraped by for the last few years. Like they talk numbers and all this stuff, you know, like it's it's it's absolutely fascinating on every level to see just all the facets of what went on in that situation. And I don't like, I don't know if this thing could work with every developer, because there's like I don't know, Double Fine has like a real underdog status, and Tim Schafer is super charming and likable, right, so like it makes for a good narrative sure, to the point that like my girlfriend got super invested in it despite not really caring that much about the subject matter. So like, I don't know that every game is super suitable for this kind of thing, but like you should really look at that thing if you care at all, Yeah, about how video games are made. Yeah, I mean I was just thinking, like, you know, behind the scenes of Call of Duty, right, the same ring to it totally so well. Also, you know, like a big publisher like that is never going to allow that process to be documented in they're kind of excruciating detail anyway, So it's kind of a moot point. But you're totally right, Like a lot of a lot of big money decisions being made by giant corporate entities probably doesn't have quite the same like human angleman whatever, and then there are very human angles. Yeah, it is made by people still, despite what you may have read on the internet. I mean, obviously there are hundreds of human stories within the creation of a Call of Duty, but like you know something something where you're bringing cameras into a process like this, you're going to be shooting the big meetings and stuff like that. You're not gonna hear from every animator and that kind of thing. So like, I think this thing is like the perfect scale and kind of the perfect again, like I said, sort of underdog story. It's easy to get really invested in this process and how that stuff is put together. So I highly recommend that thing. Unless you just don't care at all about people who make gamest people okay games, then you don't have to watch it done. I release you done. That's kind of it for me, Dan, Yeah, why are you grinning over there? God? Can I turn on my speaker? All right? I don't think I've ever seen you as prepared. I know he came in here with like what. You brought a speaker with you. I got a Bluetooth speaker. I got notes. I had to edit audio files and put them on my phone. You did not. I I got this ready to go. I wasn't kidding last week. No, Yes, we could just get you to invest this way every week. It would be fine. So for those just tuning in, yes, like this comes from the Game of the Year discussions, which I strongly argued that Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is soundtrack by David Wise was my favorite sound track of the year. I'm sorry who David Wise. Well, we'll get to him in a second. And that was pooh pood. Very quickly, Jeff pulled up his laptop and held it up. Maybe maybe some tracks that weren't indicative of the full Tropical Freeze. I feel like I listened to a lot of them. If I just happened to select every single one that was like, not that great, we didn't listen to enough of them. But but but here here's the pointing. Some of them sounded like they belonged in a Donkey Kong Country game. Actually, David Wise part of his you know what, let's go ahead and start the theme song here for We'll Hang On. You completely skipped over last week, right, We're gonna get this podcast so uka le okay yes is being composed by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, which brad self admitted self professed biggest Grant kirk Hope fan on the planet. Okay, purpose we'll say Jeff is number two. Boom Yeah, we'll cop to that. So we are going to find out considering you guys should all over David Wise, but love Grant kirk Hope. If you can tell the difference between kirk Hope or Wise. Wait a minute, you didn't tell me we were going back in time. What do you mean. I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure. Last week the challenge was Viva Pinata versus Donkey Kong. That was discussed. I decided you didn't tell me you were broadening the scope of this thing. The entire scope of kirk open Wise iseligible. I'm making no promises. Okay, well, then I can't make any promises either, because I don't see if you can tell the difference. I'm in no way prepared for that. I just need to see if you can tell the difference between one composer you did not seem too hot on and one that you said, quote is the greatest composer this earth has ever seen. That sounds like something Jeff said. But okay, all right, he's Beethoven. Yes, let's let's run down. No, he's Beethoven sixty four. Come on, all right, okay, let's run down a little bit of the resumes here David Wise goes back to the nes He's done work with Wizards and Warriors, the Donkey Kong Country series, including Tropical Freeze, Battle Toads, Diddy Kong Racing. Grant Karkope is known. Wow, it's like it's like he's only worked on awful games. I see a lot of good games in there, Like which Wizards and Warriors I thought? I like battle Toads, I like Diddy Kong Racing, I like Tropical Freeze a lot, the don Kon Country series. The Superintendent is a little overrated, but still pretty good. Grant Karkope worked on Golden Eye Double O seven for the Nintendo sixty four We can't all be winners, Best Games of all Time, Donkey Kong sixty four, also Donkey Kong. You know there's a lot of Done Koon going on here, Banto, Kazoo, Gross Gross, Gross, Viva Panada. Yeah, and now both of them come together with Yuka Lailey. And so what we're gonna be doing here is I have five tracks fifteen seconds long each. We are going to listen to each of these tracks, and Jeff and Brad, we'll start with Brad are going to decide if it is David Wise or Grant kirk Coope contessence. Are you ready? I'll give it a shot. But this is not going to go well all right, because this is this is beyond my experience. No, I mean, that's the thing. Like honestly, like if if we had just picked Viva Pinata or not Viva Panada, that's way too easy. Yeah. My worry was that you claim to know the Viva Paniada soundtrack way too much, So we just want to go with the signature style. Kirk Hope or Wise? All right? Are you ready ready? This is number one? Is this kirk Hope or Wise? Now listen to the full fifteen seconds and then I will accept your answers. Okay, Brad Shoemaker, Let'm gonna say Wise, all right, I'm putting you down for a d W Jeff. I'm also going to say Wise, all right, we got two David Weiss's we'll do We'll do the scores at the end. So got you down for two David Wise? Is here question number two? My worries that we were forgotten what these tracks sound like? You should I just do it now? Should just tell us? All right? That was David Weiss? All right, that was Windmill Hills from Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze lovely. Okay, so wait that sounded really yes, okay, what do you think it was? That didn't sound like one of the best soundtracks of the years. What that sounded like to me? All right? So the score is one to one right now here is number two. I don't know. We were competing with each other. Yeah, we're competing with each other. We're we're competing with you. You right, whatever? Repeating with bad taste. Well, you can't pick the same damn thing every time. Go with your your answer, but you gotta go genuine gut reactions. Stinks about this game. No, there's nothing I've put all right? Question two, Question number two, Brad Shoemaker. Now we're into the meta gaming aspect of would he would he put to David Wise tracks in a row? Or would he vary it up? That's why I almost worry about telling you the answers as we go. It's too late for that. I'm just gonna change it up to say Kirk cookee Okay, I'm I'm not sure though, I'm gonna say that's David Wise. That might be Wise. That was David Wise. That was Frosty Fruits for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Okay, the score is currently Jeff Gersman two, Brad Shoemaker one. I have I have a secret for you. What's that? We don't care about the score. Okay, well let's move on a good all right, I'm in the lead. Number three. That is definitely occur. That's that's the genuine Kirk there. That's the Kirk Kirk Copes there. That was grand Kirk Corope. That was Trough and Scoff from Donkey Kong sixty four. All Right, Brad, that puts you down with two. Jeff Gersman, that puts you with three. Alright, alright, Jeff still in the lead. Yeah, okay, all right, track number four, I'm gonna say Wise, I'm gonna say Kirk Hope. That was busted by you from Tropical Freeze, David Wise. All right, So now all right that's the first Okay, So I mean you can you can interpret my answers as if I say it's David Wise, it's because I don't especially like it, Okay, So you can interpret that is me saying there is one track on the Donkey Kong Country Tropical free soundtrack that I thought sounded all right. All right, So going into the final question here, we do have a tie with three to three, I changed my mind. I care about the score, all right, and I do have a deal. I have a score breaker here, tiebreaker in case you do tie here. Okay, So the final regular round question here Kirk Hope or Wise, Kirk cop or Wise Ooo. The arrangement doesn't sound very kirk Hope, but the melody kind of does. Fuck, let's say Kirk Hope. I'm also gonna say kirk Hope. It was Grant kirk Hope. All right. That was Frantic Factory from Donkey Kong sixty four. You'll notice all Donkey Kong tracts in this game. But you are now at four to four, and I have one more challenge. So the question is do we have it? Is this a speed challenge to where you yell at let's just answer one more and see if we'd everge, and if not, we'll just tie, and that'll be that. Okay, our learning our exercise. I think about it more of a learning exercise at that point. So the final challenge is the theme music to Kirk Oper Wise, which I played earlier is actually a Kirk Hope or Wise track. So I'm gonna go ahead and play this. I tell you, guys, have a decision. Did you clear the rights to this? Do you need more? No? I mean I have an answer. I'm gonna say wise. I'm gonna say Wise as well. That was grand kirk Op what Grunty's furnace fun from Banjo KAZOOI Okay, I would have never have guessed you would have picked a kurk Cope track as the interest as the theme for your game. Well, there was a game show, so I got in my own head about that one. There was a game show in Banjo, so I figured I should probably have that be the Yeah, so you guys tied, all right? All right, but you got several questions wrong, both of you. So I think that shows several I mean most or all we got. I think we got one wrong each actually in regular competition. So basically the takeaway is that Tropical Freeze has a real good soundtrack, right? Is that what we accomplish here? It is? All right? So yeah, we got to take a break here. I really don't think I follow your logic. Yeah, I don't know. Actually seems I don't know. Also, I'm pushing the break out like ten minutes so we can further explore this topic. Although some of those David Wiss tracks you have to admit were pretty good Tropical I admit that one I thought was busted by you. But I know I didn't like I said when I answered David Wise for the most part. When you say but it was Wise, no, no. When when I answered Wise, it was because I didn't think the track was very good. Okay, So the first two David Is for the end there when I thought that, of course you would pick a David Wis track for your your theme song, right, okay, which I don't really have a dog in the fight. I like them both. I am impartial. That's not the impression I got last week. I'm just defending the good name of don Key Kong Country Tropical Freeze, the soundtrack, good name. I'll stay nanimously praised outside of this room. I'll stay right now. For the record, I got nothing against David Wise, Okay, he's just I really like the you are low on Health music and Wizards and Warriors. I think it's fucking awesome that it's pretty good. It's so good. I like everything from Golden Eye. Yeah. Yeah, the music's all right, but it sounds like Bond stuff. Yeah, exactly. He nailed it in terms of like, shit, that sounds like it should be in that game. But that was kirkop Okay, Yeah, it's the master of his craft. We're both very good at what they do, which I think we can agree that Ukulele is gonna have a pretty good sound track if there's one thing completely clashed though, fifty percent of the Ukulele soundtrack will be probably pretty amazing incredible, and the other half like, I don't know, it's like maybe it'll be all right, could it could be great, It'll probably fit. If there's one thing this chain of experience has taught has taught us, I think it's that's listening to fifteen second clips of video game music is a bad way to evaluate video game music works. For during Game of the Year, you've got a point a laptop after a microphone. Oh I'm sorry, I didn't have a bluetooth speaker to hold up yea better? What did you buy that thing just for this? All right? It's got wou Tank's clan songs embedded in it, so I mean, what did we determine here nothing. They're both learned. They're both very good at their jobs. Alright, nothing was learned Colan the Dan record story. Nobody wins Chad's Stay tuned next time for another episode of Whatever the fuck? This was a weekly segment. Yep, five more tracks next week. All right, what do you say we dig into some headlines? Cool, let's guess see what has been going on in the world. Was the only time that I look in and see what's going on in the world, so hopefully it's comprehensive. What do you do the rest of the time. You don't want to know. It was a family podcast. I can't get into that. All right, stick in your head somewhere. Oh yeah, try trying to get away from everything, trying to shut out the outside world in a manner of speaking. Okay, great, well on that note, uh Koji Igarashi has resurfaced, Yes, re materialized. Yes have you heard about his legacy? A swarm of bats flew into the room, coalesced into the man. He heard the crack of a whip, and thunder and lightning, and then he was suddenly there, shattering wine glass, the tinkling of a swinging chandelier. Was it what? And then he was just there? Uh? And then he launched Kickstarter and it has been funded as of what about seven hours since the Kickstarter launched. It was like fourth at the time of this recording. Wasn't really four or five? God somewhere in there. It feels like a lifetime ago. Yeah, you were so young then, yep, an impressionable. Now we're just old and jaded. It just happened today. Yep. Uh, he launched Kickstarter and it's a game like you would expect him to make. Yep, yeah, totally. I'm bored it is. It is effectively a new Symphony of the Night. Okay, it is called Bloodstained. I can't I'm trying to find the flour the ritual of the ritual of the night. Yeah, yes, Cassivannia ass sounding name feel like, Yeah, you could substitute any number of Gothic sounding terms into that title. I don't know that I love blood stained as a name, But then what is a name just a miserable pile of branding? I guess yeah, yeah, sure, I love that. In the Kickstarter they'd never use the term metroid Vania. It's always ego van I think that's like kind of sleazy. There's something about that that rubs me, Like there's stuff about this kickstarter that kind of just doesn't sit right with me, and trying to rebrand the genre. I mean, I will grant you metroid Vanya is a suck ass name for a genre, and that you know, like going the other route and just saying the world Castlevania over and over again would be sort of a shitty way to do it and also probably would open him up to some legal proceedings. Sure, but Ega Vania, but also Castlevania did not fully form the ideas that the stuff is built on, Like like it something of the Night is just Metroid with RPG. Yeah, yeah, it's Metroid with you level up and you can find other weapons and they have stats. Yeah, Metroid three with you now with you level up. They should have made that game. Yeah, oh god, like a Metroid game with RPG. Yeah do it. I'll play that. Yeah anyway, Vaccine you know, uh do whatever, who cares what they call it. He's always simultaneously seemed like way too serious about this stuff and also kind of knowingly self aware. Yeah, like when he would show up to interviews at E three with a whip. Yeah, when you bring them bring the whip to interviews, the whip and the wide brim fedora. Yeah. I interviewed him at one point and it seemed fairly subdued. But it's always you know, those E three interviews. Get a hot meeting room and someone who just flew in from Japan, it's not always a recipe for good stuff. Yeah. Sure, I mean he's always seemed a little soft spoken, but whatever, that's that's fine. But yeah, that's you know, that's the game. Like they, like I said, they already got funded. They I mean that they don't have a game. They have a well they have a concept of art that is like they look like screenshots of a game, but it's like these are not screenshots. Yeah, but I mean, you know, they they all but come out and say like, yeah, you know what this his yep uh down down to very specific elements about like weapon crafting and stuff like that, like their he creates is on it. Yeah, they're ex Capcom. I guess they also have done a bunch of work on Mighty number nine, I believe. So yeah, that's the sound of it. I guess. The most interesting thing about this, like maybe I've been watching too much of the Double five documentary. But like the most interesting thing about this thing to me is that they're not They're not funding the game out of the crowdfunding. This is just a proof of of yeah, they're up to band saying like that was like that wasn't that Zach Braff movie or something where they were like, we're not We're going to use this to go get more money. Right. It's very common with crowdfunding movies because movies are very expensive. Right. But they've already they have established partners that are like, yeah, hey, if you guys can raise some interest, right, they've got full funding waiting in the wings. They just had to show that they was desired for this game before they could get the funding. Well, so if this kickstarter had failed, would the game have happened thanks to this other funding or no funding? Maybe? Or perhaps on a different scale, Yeah, maybe something like that. You know, the level of risk people are willing to attach to something, it's probably dictated by how much interest they can drum up. So they've like gamified the shit out of their kickstarter with all these like get social and we'll unlock more stuff through the game, and the stretch goals. The stretch goals are way beyond just like X amount of dollars. Yeah, it's like, you know, it's like the first thousand followers we get on our new Twitter account, well, unlock this, you'll send us fan our for a game that doesn't even have actual art to be a fan of yet eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars and David ad is gonnav close to that. They're like a's seven something now, yeah, yes, they will easily blow past all that stuff. And then they're saying March twenty seventeen for this thing. So okay, uh really yeah, because he said Ega said in an interview. I read that he estimated about in eighteen months, but I guess that's some buffer time whatever. Yeah, I don't know that estimated delivery, and all the Kickstarter awards all says March twenty and they're doing they're doing a full disc. They're they're so that's part of the reason they're soliciting these funds is to have the money to press sixty dollars discs. Yeah, for people who want that, But I think that's only I didn't seem like that was something that was going to go to stores. It was more just like, hey, we're gonna do this for backers. Yeah, I'm sure that's a direct, weird direct distribution thing, but kind of cool. That's the kind of cool that they'd be able to do that. I guess like master discs, they they're they're they said, and I guess they must have checked to make sure. But they said, first time on a Kickstarter game that discs have come out of this for consoles. Maybe they're wrong, maybe there has been a case of that, but they well said, but it was the first time on Kickstarter. They were being really coy. And I forget which interview was in that I read. It was with Ben ben Judd, who was their agent, was being super colo ben Judd, Yeah, about where the money's coming from you he of the bathrobe. Yes, yes, like to wear bathrobes and sit on exercise bikes. Who doesn't. But yeah, he was like he was He was like, yeah, it's like to us, we have we have fun that secured, Like is it from a publisher, is it from VC, is it from a wealthy benefactor or who can say? He's like, it's a weird bath like a weird way to put that's that's just sounds like a Ben Judd interview to me, Like, fuck man, I don't know. It just made me really curious about what the ends and outs of the deal are. But anyway, whatever, it sounds like the Games, and you know it's safe, it's gonna get made. Yeah, considering they blew past their goal in a matter of hours. So what does a sword or whip thing? Exactly? That site went up? Was it two weeks ago? I think yeah. And it's like it seemed like just painfully obvious what was happening right from that site yep, which sort of hand It had a little sympany of the Knight style text bubble with the smpany of the Knights style caricature of Ego as a vampire in it talking about building a new castle. Are we just talking about like what the main character uses or oh yeah? So I think the voting, the voting stuff, yeah, is some kind of weapon selection thing. I think, does it say what's winning? Because sword should be winning. I think whip should be winning. Well, I think there's like the voting, like your heart will always say whip, but the brain says sword. That's That's where I'm at. The whip is the iconic original. Yeah. The whip is the thing you think of as like, ah, the whip. He has a whip, he brings it with him. The whip is the Castlevania weapon of choice. The sword is actually it's totally a sword now because the whip was always kind of frustrating in those modern castle sword is how you get your business done. Yeah, and symphony and all those DS ones way better than the old ones. Well hey, well yeah, why choose because if you're back to the like I think it's the sixty dollars here, you can get the sword whip. It's both Oh shit, the only weapon powerful enough to unite teams sword and whip. Isn't that what Dante's Inferno did, Like they had the combat cross a sword turn into basically yeah, no, Lord's a Shadow that had the combat cross. Yeah, yeah, I guess yeah, but IV, Yes, IV does have a sword whip. You're right, Lord's Shadow? Yes, yea swords that I mean, blood Board has a sword whip? What a Dande's Inferno? Ab I thought it was a cross thing much of bullshit? Yeah? Yeah, the non descripts chain like weapons that all of those games had. Yeah, that the borrowed whatever was from in God of War. Yeah, I'm trying to find anything else really worth talking about here, and this gets cool, Like, yeah, it's great that another one of these is gonna get made. I mean, you know, he has been responsible for some fantastic fucking Castlevania like, but at the same time, like I didn't finish all of those DS games. Yeah they all they were all good, but it's just at some point I got saturated with that stuff and you have to wonder now. I mean, like, it's awesome that this is going to happen. Don't get me wrong, but like it feels like the needs of that genre are getting met left and right these days. Like a lot of small developers said like, oh wait, it seems like people want that sort of thing. You know, you have axiom verge ory to some extent. You know, it's like that you're shadow complex. You know, you're right, But they all have a slightly different twist on the formula they do. Like nobody has just come out and clone Symphony of the Night, and if anybody's gonna do it might a clone of Symphony of the Night. I think that's disappointed. Well, there's gotta be like, this has to be pushing things forward in its own way. I guess I don't mean clone in a in a like a derogatory way, like obviously it's gonna have new stuff if anything. Like I said, the weapon crafting stuff sounded like it was going to be more elaborate and who knows what else will be in there. But I mean hitting all the same beats, you know, Like I mean, that's like what the DS ones did is they were basically symphony, but each one kind of had a new Exactly what I mean is that, like you said, axiom Verge does not have RPG mechanics or or is more about platforming than leveling up. You know, what I mean is to make a to make a game with that same gothic art style and with the same you know, like you level your character and you have different weapons you equip and it feels like an VG behind the scenes. Yeah, uh Like there's not a lot of vast specific classes, I hope. So all right, you need them to see them. I'll let you find out for yourself. Yeah, I don't. I don't. You're an inverted castle. I don't know. Here's here's my prediction. Answer. Yes, an inverted castle. I had to put money on it, I would probably be with money on there being two hundred percent sworth of completion if not more in this game. Right, Yeah? Uh that that that just it seems like that's the kind of game they want to make. You know that that's the kind of game that that people want. And I bet that they that those are the sorts of things that they pull in from, you know, the past work, like those sorts of nods and stuff like that. But if it gets too close to Symphony, I think that's actually like Symphony's great, but don't make don't make a se cool to that, saying like they like break from that, like there can't be a what is a man joke in there? Oh? Totally not, Like if that would be super depressing. Well, they use that twice in the Kickstarter pitch. Yeah, I know it's sort of Yeah, ever when they did that and Lord's the Shadow too, this is so lame. Just let the thing be. It's been quoted quite a bit, Yeah I did. I don't love how cartoony the art they put out is it's a little that's concept art, little animate well, I mean they put out concept shots of what the game might look like like it's it's got you I on it and everything. Yeah, but the DS games were already moving toward a more anime style towards the ends, whereas like I kind of like the slightly diff Castlevania as mad anime. It always was, well you never sometimes you just don't see the cut scenes somethingy. The night doesn't look that way necessarily, like the portraits maybe, but the art, like the level of art is a little more grungy, which is what I want out of my Vampire Castle. I don't want any I don't need grungy. You know, I could go for some super sharp two do you look? Yeah, well I meant doing unreal engine, right it is? Yeah, so it is. He is three demodeled, and they actually in the pitch they're like they're trying to lay in some concerns that people have about about being actual two D. That's that's fine. I think there's been so many games that have proven that they can do cheaty well and that engine. I mean, Castlevania sixty four was rad. Sure. I didn't what I was trying to remember judgment. I was trying to remember what he did in the interim, like after he was on but before he was on elect bits or whatever the what was the It was like a econami kind of elabates he won where he had to pick up the little guy. Believe he worked on Ellabates, so he had nothing to do with the N sixty four. Oh oh no, I can't tell you one about the two ones because they were like two of those meant of Innocence, and I can't remember it was the other one returned to Symphony Night. I swear he was involved in those games. And nobody seemed to like those games. They were didn't hate them, It's just they were not They're just weren't the same thing, you know. But then again, everybody was making what like God of Words die character action back then. Yeah, yeah, a lot of stuff was not great. Yeah, I think Lords of Shadow did a good job of Like he's credited on Automedius Excellent in twenty eleven. He's credited in both Lords of Shadow games. But that might not be it, you know, that might be more of a honorary thing came up with thanks special thanks. I don't actually know what the credits are anyway. Like this, this looks very promising. Yes, it seems like they've done their leg work to make pretty much what it is that people seem to want. Yeah, he has just thanked on Lords of Shadow. Yeah. Between this and Ukulele, this has been a good couple of weeks for Kickstarter stuff that I want to play. I love. Like three weeks ago, how we were out there talking about That's what I was thinking. Okay, yeah, we've we're talking recently about people being a lot more savvy with their Kickstarter dollars, and then two explosive new kickstarters happen. I mean, you know they're they're both the genres that are like have really wide fan bases, right, and again it's not like the CRPG stuff or there have been like four successful kicks. Yeah, like people have been clamoring for years for him to make this game. Yeah, specifically, you know, like the talent involved is what makes this like the if you're just like, hey, we want to make a Symphony of the Night style game, then like add it to the list. Right. But you know, like yeah, like they got me Trio Yamaneva composer in like they got the names pretty much, and it's like a well, I mean I'm sure on some level, like it's probably really well timed for them that, like Konami seems to be as disinterested as possible in the video game business. Sure, uh so for them to come out there and go like, hey, those guys, right, fuck man, let's make one of these. They're the only ones who can apparently, you know, like, why not, let's make the game Kami didn't want you to play? That's I guess actually cut basically sad way, isn't it. H And it would be a soccer game actually, and you get the word glasses vampire soccer. Yeah, I would be in the bed, bite the ball. H Well, I guess we'll check back in thirty two days and see where that ends up. And then a year or two years, yeah, and then like two years for the game come out and a half I guess. Yeah. But I mean, you know, they they almost made it to their last monetary stretch goal today. I want. Yeah, like, the more stuff they have, they can unlock the last stretch goal if they meet all their achievements. So make sure to follow their accounts on social media. Yeah, like it just gets into that stuff at that point. Some of that stuff was a little bit much. Yeah, totally send us twenty five selfies taking it castles like it's like that stuff's like funny in a weird day. But like you know, creating games like well whatever, they have to build awareness, right, I mean, like the big thing about Kickstarter is making sure that people know that you want money. Yeah, so obviously they're out there, like they partnered with a bunch of YouTube channels and like you can back it in a way that gets you credited alongside your YouTube partner of choice, which seems for super fucking creepy. Uh, Like that's there's just I mean whatever, pulling out all the stops, like trying to fucking hit as many marks as possible to go, like, we got to find a reason for you to back this. But in reality, all they had to say was Koji Igarashi would like to make another game like the games he used to make, right, and people would show up. It seems to have worked, so I guess congrats. I don't know what do you say after a Kickstarter happens? Make it good? You say, make it good? Yes, go make that game. Go make that game, do it and then we will play it. Uh. The Oculus Rift it's not coming out this year. It's coming out next year, Oculus risk is more like it I know what I'm saying to him, I don't know, more like Oculus playing It's safe. Huh Yeah, twenty sixteen, what's that quarter one twenty sixteen, Dan, what's your excitement level on the Oculus. You've been the strongest proponent for ten that morphs Oculus. Yeah, so I feel like games still need to materialize in greater quality and on a well I mean, but I guess like you can't have the games before you have the gear, right, So it's like, I think if you could just get out there and say, like, here are the games that are going to launch alongside it, and they totally matter and are awesome. Instead, it's just been like I'm making this so there's a good chance at that first lineup of games, like when something like Morephs Oraculous launches, they might suck and they might be gimmicky like a bunch of Shark Tank demos or whatever, but eventually I think there will be really awesome game experiences as Yeah, it is a Jared Lanier of the new generation, bring this ship back, man, I mean, you know, it is definitely a chicken and egg problem. But but yeah, like only one of these things has been out in any form, and that was a form that the manufacturer was discouraging people from buying. You know, they were saying, don't buy this unless you're a developer. Did its only commit to getting Morpheus out this year? I forgot to look that up. I got to say they did. Yeah, they got specific. They got more specific about it at g DC. Because it's because if that's the case, I feel like I, now that I've said it, I have to look it up. But or was it Samsung? Somebody said like, somebody's gonna have a Simmer. Well that's the lady the valve val thing, right vibe. Yeah, that thing is definitely coming out this year. Yeah, and now I have to look up the Oh no, no, I'm sorry. Uh. Sony's also saying twenty sixteen from four stuff. So so so I was gonna say, I was just gonna note the irony of Oculus being kind of potentially last to market since they were the initial kickstarter and they've got the first headsets out there, like they they kind of made a splash early, but then they kind of went into seclusion finishing this thing. I mean, we have to see what HTC thing ends up being. Yeah, like like everyone who got the demo of it said that that thing was the real fucking deal. Yeah, totally in a way that even like blew away people that really liked Oculus Drift. You're right, but I guess like that last Oculus Rift kit people were fucking going nuts sports so, right, So Oculus has been out there, so you know, it's been a while since the second dev kit came out, right, but they've they've they've been out there showing that is well beyond DKT, right, so they've been out there talking about uh more elegant ways to do the stuff that the valve thing does that everybody wants so crazy about. It is mainly the positioning stuff, right, which like putting shit in a room, right, which, yeah, it seems unwieldy, end crazy. Right with the valve thing, you've got these like two little towers you have to set up that track your movements around the room, and an Oculus is if I interpreted the stuff correctly, it sounded like Oculus was looking at ways to solve that problem without the stationary tracker things. Yeah, you know that's kind of the ultimate goal, right to build that stuff into the headset. So yeah, it who knows to be something that you can do without taking up a lot of space, And I think like having to set up a room the minute you're like, hey, we got to put this shit around the room, like it's a connect situation or something like, oh, well it doesn't work for my room or you know, or well or maybe it's like versatile enough that it does work in your room, So maybe it's maybe that's the thing, right, that would be cool. I mean, this was very vague, it's it sounds very marketing influenced. Yeah, the Oculus Rift builds on the presence, immersion, and comfort of the Crescent Bay prototype with an improved tracking system that supports both seated and standing experiences, as well as highly refined industrial design, updated ergonomics. Blah blah blah. But yeah, like that's the present stuff. The immersion stuff is like the you know, that's the tracking type stuff there. So we will see, uh this week, actually they will be announcing some more stuff tech specs. This week. They'll there will be technical specs and then the weeks ahead will be revealing more details around hardware, software, input and many of our unannounced made for VR games. Good good, good good. So like they've got a publishing team or something. Yeah, yeah, I think I believe they've been like Jason Rubin's been over there, Yeah, hopefully making things happen, and they're gonna go like not at E three or you know, somewhere they'll be like, oh, by the way, yeah, were a bunch of fucking dope games, right, well, yeah, they're probably out there signing games. And then the way John Karmack sweets, it sounds like they're also working on tech internally for that stuff as well. So uh yeah, and they end by saying E three is just around the corner. So sure, like you could kind of assume this sort of run of information will culminate at E three with like big plans or big information we see anything doing the conferences or I don't know, well not from my pulous Yeah, you know, the Morpheus would certainly show. I'm sure that'll be there in some form. Ya, that's stuff we would see like hollow lens stuff out of Microsoft. I've never I've never gotten the sense that that's gonna be gaming related unless they've come out and said that and I missed it. Well, kudos on it, so we haven't. Yeah, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's still in the games group doing that. I don't I don't know. Is that presentation fight hollow lens Man, Come on, is it gonna bring it all back together? Yeah? That presentation is way more focused on like crafting, like basically like Microsoft paint productivity type stuff. But they weren't they showing like Minecraft or so, which I mean, obviously they would just maybe throw that in there, but it seems like that thing could have a gaming application. It to me, that thing seemed like something that came out of R and D and they didn't quite know what to do with it, but it seemed awesome, so they were all like, here it is, I guess, but they gave it more of a showpiece than like the weird fucking room thing that would that would that thing fell out of R and D, Yeah, and showed up in some articles somewhere, and they were like, that's not a thing, like not really, I mean it is, but don't sure. But at the same time, the entire rest of the world is is very visibly into VR and Microsoft's kind of sitting here twiddling their thumbs. They had to show something right, Yeah, I had to get out there and make it look like they are also researching this stuff. Sure, yeah, I guess that's true. And what better way to do that than with fake holograms. Holograms are rad we live in one, that's true. Yeah, that's what we do. I just read that, Dan, you don't exist. Yeah, sitting right. You think you're a hologram. I think you exist, like will I am. There's a break water, and they'll say, right in me, there's that water. That water doesn't exist. Also a hologram. I can taste it. Taste good, right, taste like berries. You're just like Tupac. You're just a projection taste. Uh. It's good to have dates on this stuff if nothing else. Yeah, it's good to finally know when the stuff is like, let's do it. Let's I'm seen, pass or fail, Let's go. Yes. I am so sick of hearing VR is the future without there being any kind of existing litmus test for whether it's actually the future that the rubber needs to meet the road and just happen or not. So we can move on with our lives one way or the other. Hopefully our lives will be indelibly changed. Yeah, it'd be cool for there to be some neat new stuff out there, I guess until you don't know, until you run a website where you have to produce video coverage. Yeah, then it becomes like the rubber meeting the road is actually a real prompt. Sure, I mean there's that whole stuff on IR end, But even at E three, it's like, you, how do you get on stage and really demo VR stuff like that footage doesn't look great, we know, not for somebody who's not actually experiencing it. So that's a tough one. But we will see forty theaters yep. At the press conferences. You gotta do chios at targets at Walmart's best guys, they gotta go crazy with keys, I guess. So they need to make those things hypoallergenic and antibacterial. Also, they'll probably have a person standing there wiping up. Yeah, if you're gonna set those things up in public though, Chris Waters, yep, yeah, Chris Waters Water. Every will be on the target to uh Tony Hawk anybody? Yeah that guy? Yes, right, Yes, Dan may not exist. Tony Hawk definitely. What Tony Hawk is the only one among us who is not actually he's a Phase Walker yep, nine twenties off the Hologram. Yeah, yep, that game is real and it's really called Tony Hawk's per Skater five. Yeah, and coming this year for current gen. So this ship is legit retail release, right, not just yeah yeah, retail release games. Robomoto with assistance from like Disruptive Games, Disruptive Games as the developer. Yes, I think it's develop Roboto did HD. They also did Ride and Shred. That's true. Okay, So the track record of Robomoto and Tony Hawk has been pretty negative okay to like hardcore fans, correct, I mean across the I don't think Ride or Shred found a home necessarily in a big way. That bulldog from the YouTube video seemed to enjoy Ride, It's true. Yeah, And when I play Ride at E three, it worked and I was like, Okay, you're going for this thing like it's you know, obviously a different audience, but this seems cool, Like it seemed functional. And then we got the boards in house once it was done, I was like, wait, this thing's a fucking shit show. Yeah, that thing, I don't know, man, it's it's hard to say, like a lot of people are just shipping all over this soon as it happens, just because the developers attached. I don't know, I don't know. Like I remember talking to people at Robomoto when HD was in development, and at the very least they seemed to understand what they were trying to accomplish, even if they didn't hit it in HD, Like it seemed like it seemed like there was at least some talent there and they were fans like yeah, yeah. Emotionally, it seems like if they get the opportunity and the budget to make something happen, combined with past failures, Yeah, this is kind of the last shot for Tony Hawk, I think. Yeah, like either you do it here or it can't be done. I mean they're pulling out all the stops. They're calling it pro Skater five. Yeah, the budget just gotta be a lot bigger for at than just like, hey, we're doing the old ones but eight Yeah, yeah, totally. Yeah. Activision really getting back in it like new Guitar Hero, new Tony Hawk getting back in it in like the most weird way too, of just like it like these things have done well before, right, past performance have proven you know, like call Duty is not gonna last forever, but like not coming up with like a bunch of new ship right, instead just going like, I don't know what we brought back Tony Hawk. Well, that was the thing they still on the we're still paying him, like that was the whole problem with their whole package of goods philosophy going back like ten years. Right, It's like, we can turn out of Tony Hawk every year until we can't, right, and then we can turn out a guitar here every year until we can, and then a call of duty every year until we can't. And now what Skylanders? Like, Yeah, oh, by the way, it's Infinity three point, I've got announced, It's Star Wars. It's Star Wars Surprise. Just in Star Wars. It's also gotten some more Marvel stuff than there it does. Yeah, and Pixar business. But that's kind of the thing about Skylanders, right, At a certain point, how do you compete with the stable of Disney properties? Right, It's like Infinity is to be the thing in that space eventually, right if it's not already. H Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how they sell one on one up against each other. What these actual numbers are but just you know, like you you pile one thing after another on there, and then like Legos getting into it. There's also like like the Lego thing, which seems all the way misguided, but maybe that's just maybe I don't like the Lego but it just further drives on the point with Skylanders. It's not a beloved like decade is old property, right, you know, they had such a huge head jump that's sure. Yeah, you're right they had. They had that shit got entrenched to where if you have the figures, you want the next game. Because if the figures work right, I mean I would assume it, that's how would go. Yeah, whatever, I shouldn't write off Skylanders, but it's not. It's not going to be the thing that keeps Activision's earnings up the way the calf Duty does. Probably not forever. Probably not forever. But I don't know, I don't know. I just kind of, you know, expected they would look for that next big thing. I'm surprised that they didn't like saturate Skylanders into like every single facet, you know, like make a cartoon, like you know, like really hit that shit hard. I feel like they have I mean aside from the limited Yeah, it's like there's definitely like you know, like kid's birthday sets and like there's a lot of that stuff. But I feel like it hasn't necessarily Yeah. Maybe I'm just looking at it going like until there's a car, until Jildial White is voicing your characters, you know, you're not real. I don't know. I feel like an annual game is saturation enough for my taste. Maybe maybe that's a lot but new exciting stuff about three point Er, right, I mean the the end, this is like a new engine. Right. So they've had like Ninja Theory working, yes, some of these it's it's different people like Sumo Digitals coming in and doing some work, Ninja Theories doing some of that stuff, you know, And it seems like that, you know, each of these developers kind of has a focus from the looks of things like Zuma Digitals done did those second driving games that were somewhat received, I guess some other studios that have been involved, Like it seems like instead of just like you know, here's Avalanche gonna knock out everything, it's like, Okay, these people are gonna come in and really take this engine and do like this play set, whether they're like three Star Wars play sets, one for each phase of Star Wars. Yeah, and I like, I don't know, like the trailer, like they had a pretty good looking Death Star trench for I like their art style and that at least, like even if I'm not a big Star Wars guy, Like, some of that stuff looked all right, But I don't know. I said, I will totally check that out. But man, it's a hell of an investment. Yeah, God damn. And they always you know, like I guess, like my problem with the like I'm never going to be a big toy box guy, which that's where they mash all the stuff together. Like I like the concept of these like play sets, but I wish I could bring the non canon characters into that stuff. And they've always been like, Nope, if you're playing the Star Wars play set, it's going to be the interview plan the prior to the Caribbean play set. You can't be a car. You gotta open all that shit up. I think, no, you can't. It's it's you. You. You can't be a car in the time. They should, right, Yeah, Yeah, I wish that they did that, Like that's the thing that's always been missing from that thing anyway, Tony Hawk, Yeah, they should make another Tony Hawk game. I'm glad that they are. And even if they fail, at least they will they will be able to say we will hopefully in the bill, to say we gave it a shot. I just wonder, like, do you enough people care about skateboarding in that way at this time? I don't know, like you could argue that Tony Hawk kind of made skateboarding, like did the pro Skater made skateboarding matter in a way that it didn't before to some extent, in some ways, to some segments of audience. I don't think it matters if people care about skateboarding because, like you know, the first Tony Hawk, I've never given a shit about actual skateboarding in my entire life. But I played Tony Hawks Pro Skater one and it's one of my favorite games ever. And yeah, two, three, four, Like I at no point did I pick up an interest in skateboarding, but I love the shit out of that series. I think that, you know, for that to happen again, this game has to be really, really, really really good, and I think that that might be asking a bit much in this day and age, like like what is that game? Like how do you make a modern Tony Hawk game? And you look at some of the stuff that they're saying, like they lead with the idea of projectiles in some missions, just going with one of the first bits and that was in past games like you throw tomatoes and shit in one of the Thug games, that multiplayer mode where you shot fireballs at your skateboard. Like they've done it. But that's not the high point of the franchise. If you're out there trying to say, hey, it's back, like, that's not the fucking thing you write on your first fucking slide of your deck. That's like fucking slide fifty three, and you're like, oh, by the way, there's gonna be some versatility in these goals. Yeah. Press release references the quote same infamous focus on daring objectives, fine tune controls and high score tricks, including manuals and reverts. But then yeah, as you said, new items like power ups and projectiles change up the core skating experience. Yeah, and if I had I would not be able to like, it would be really scary to have like a bunch of like a budget thrown at you and say make it, make the next Tony Hawk, and I'm like fuck, yeah. You know, is like do they go back to like two minute runs. I don't think they should. I think that'd be a bad move. I thought Project it was pretty good. Yeah, like by that point it was just like the fatigue of it annualized for so long. But like there was good stuff in those last few games. Yeah, but like some of it just the new features weren't crucial, like the nail the trick stuff, all the weird slow moo tricks shit kind of lame that was proving. Yeah. I wasn't big on proving ground, Americans, Wasteland, I think in Wasteland, everywhere else whatever. The Console one was like that was cool and that it was like one big, sprawling la. I like that instead of just a bunch of levels. Yeah. Yeah, like I think it should be a big open world thing. Yeah. They harp on online a lot in this press release and also talk about dropping in and out of online skate sessions in a way that makes it sound like it might be open the world. Yeah. That seems logical, I guess, But also reading this, it occurs to me that this was the first major Tony Hawk games. Sense College D four and Carrot on a Stick kind of online. Yeah, they think they mention it says it says complete missions, unlike unlock new content and level up online or offline. Yeah, And I mean they had, you know, they had the concept of leveling up your skater all along. You know, it was just kind of a different, different thing. Uh. That's that's kind of all the info that's there. But I guess we will find out any three. Yeah, it's up with that. I have high hopes. But that's but at the same time, it seems like there are a trillion ways this could go all the way wrong. Yeah, but they should totally give it a shot. It's great that they are. Yeah. I will happily give it a look. Man, Can I play as that caterer? Would be great? That would be really good. Or or and or just let you skate that half pipe with all the like fine dining tables staff in there and the logo on just trash everything posted to Instagram. Just make that and make that full. That would be pretty great. Uh. Lastly, Uh, and let's see fall Out four is coming out. Exhibit F Destructoid found a listening on LinkedIn with somebody from Marata Studios, which is a CG shop that Gierramo del Toro owns Oh, okay, all right, yeah, briefly saw a headline, so yes, uh fill me in. So basically, yeah, like a former artist at that studio listed on his resume on LinkedIn that he had worked on a cinematic trailer for Fallout four. Uh and then Structoid report of this and then they were quickly sent an email from that studio demanding they pulled the story. So okay. A representative sided inaccuracies, but also confirmed the story was breaking a non disclosure agreement as nobody had Destructoid signed an NDA. We're assuming that confirms somebody else broke in DA. If you want to confirm something, yeah, say that they broke NDIA that that's probably true. Yeah, so that's probably fall out for Yes. As a follow up to last week's discussion, I mean, there was always the little, you know, the kind of it's probably fall out for Yes, a little doubt in the back of your head, just like, what if they're doing a different I hope if it's a new IP. What if it's a Fallout something something red, It's got all new guts. Yeah, we'll see. That's what everybody's saying to hope for just you know, just massive changes to the structure and underpinnings of that stuff. So, you know, I hope they're creating a solid engine that is cross platform and not going to break as much, and and we'll work for elder scrolls and this and whatever else they want to do. That is the hope. Well, I mean, like I've said before, it's by far the longest between games out of that studio that has occurred to date. Yeah. Yeah, so they've they've taken extra time, and let's hope it's for more than just like asset generation and stuff. Hopefully they got under the hood and really rooted around in there. Yeah. It's one of those things, like the name, like the concept to Fallout four has been kicking around for so long, like it's become easy to forget that, Like, oh right, Like New Vegas and Fallow three were both fucking great. Yeah, they should totally make another one of the Yeah, no, dude, it's been almost what seven year almost seven years since Fallout three came out. A long time. Wow, Uh, it would be nice to have another one of those. Yeah, wouldn't it. Yeah, although I don't know what I would want out of it. I wanted to not be like like I wanted to be more than Fallout three. That works, right, I want to be more than Skyrim with Wasteland. Okay, but what is it? What is that? That's why we're not game develop I guess, not like I want better shooting, I want better like better action. I guess. Yeah, I guess. I like that's is fine, but I think you know that stuff could be tightened up. Yeah, Like I yes, I either want the shooting to be better or vast to not be not feel like an exploit. Yes, because I felt like a certain point the combat was like a formality in that game. Yeah, or you know, like at some point, like just if the shooting gets good enough, then you just say, hey, VATS is here for people who want to play in story mode, right, you know, if you don't want to actually deal with the action here, we've got an alternative for you. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I mean that was fun because it just led to just like fucking heads exploding and all that ridiculous bullshit. Right. It was great, but at a certain point it felt like you were just going through the motions, you know, Like what was the stereotype you just run up to somebody vats and shotgun them in the face. Yep, it was fun. Yeah every time you did it. Yeah, Like to be honest, like it's as much as I think Vats is sort of a crutch, it was a cool fucking crutch for that game and the other game. But yeah, it would be nice for the shooting. Is there are a paid mod for Skyrim you can do that adds Vats to it and just makes everyone fucking blow up. Can I have the fucking guy show up occasionally with his gun and shoot him to play the little music Stranger Stranger? That guy, Yeah, he was just fucking guy just shows That's like a fucking dice roll half and then dude shows up to fucking smoke the guy with you. Like, thanks, dude, it's really cool. You have you lived in a nuclear waste land all the time. You don't know that day anything can happen. You know, you're right. It's it's less that Vats made it too easy and more that the shooting was just completely not viable at all. Like it you can do it, but like at any kind of range, it just felt weird. It was too it was too much RPG, not of action. I could I could stand to see them go with some better, more actionally shooting. Yeah. I played another Bethesta game for a little bit yesterday. Didn't mention it, oh, because I wanted to wait for this surprise right here called Rogue Warrior. Oh God, what why why? I saw that it was on Steam and just went this fucking thing. Wow, that's all. I don't want to say take any lessons from Rogue Warrior, other than maybe the end credit song. I've never I've never even seen that game. Dude. I distinctly remember you guys behind me recording the quick Look. That's about it? Can we do oh we should do a ups segment or something. That game is No, I'm not gonna say. I feel like I feel like what we need out of Rogue Warrior is already on the website. Yeah, yeah, it is the thing about The thing I'll say about that game that immediately comes rushing back is not the amount of cursing. It's the kind of weird use of it. Yes, it's like this mission is a total goat fuck. It's not like the first line game pretty much. Yeah, and he said, and like, within the first five minutes he has called he has said goat fuck twice in that context, and he's like, this is this guy seems like a real idiot. What was the Karmageddon thing? That was really stupid? We're playing oh off we fuck? Yeah? Yeah, yeah. Not a lot of unexplored territory and cursing these days. I feel like most of the ground has been covered, you know, yeah, trying to do something interesting with your swear words you've got yeah, you know, right, like all the what was the bolt storms thing? Oh? Tis right, yeah, yeah, Kenami's cornered the market on that. I okay, sure, I don't know what am I even saying anyway, followed four it's probably happening wait till E three. Yeah, I hope, I'm waiting. All right, we've come to the part of the show where I read the emails BombCast at giant bomb dot com. All right, sits screwing around, do it? Send the emails there, Let's jump right into it. Man. We get a lot of emails about PT and Kojima and Konami and et cetera, Like what about all that stuff? So the I guess the one thing that happened since last week's podcast was that they rendered uh PT not downloaded right anymore? Yes, I don't think we had covered that when we recorded last week. I think that happened afterwards. So yeah, so even if you even if you quote unquote bought PT and it's on your account, you can no longer read download, did they want their money back because it was free? Right? So it's a weird situation. It is because of that. But here's a couple of emails about it. Here's one from James says, I'm a relatively new listener to the podcast and brand new Premium member. First, foremost, thank you guys for the wonderful content you're provided. You're welcome. Anyway, enough with the melancholy crap, let's get to meat potatoes. The methods that Konami used to pretty much erase PT from existence, canceling silent Hills, delisting PT from PSN, removing the I like that he frames this like that was the end game, like somebody spoke up and we've got to get rid of PT, cancel silent Hills, We're getting rid of PT like nou Yeah, and then lastly, removing the ability to redownload PT from PSN if you removed it from your local hard drive. Do you think this creates a bad precedent for other companies to follow when trying to liquidate or censor one of their failed projects, or is this just local to Konami given their possible internal political issues. I realized that some games have been delisted aside from PT, like Mortal Kombat two for PS three. Yeah, but this is the first time I've seen the case for the ability to redownload. It was removed as well. I guess since it was free that makes it okay. What do you guys think? Especially, we want to hear Jeff's thoughts on this, as I feel censorship hits him personally. I'm not sure what he meant by that. Censorship is like not a This is not censorship. Censorship is the government telling you what you can and can't say. We've got to stop them from getting the word out about this game we're not making. I mean, like this is Konami, you know, Like I think they got out there and said, you know, hey, this Norman read Us thing expired. We don't have a deal with him anymore, so we can't have this thing out there. I didn't even think about that. But more importantly, that thing only exists because it is set up to announce Silent Hills. That thing only exists as a promotional vehicle for Silent Hills on its own. It's its own thing, and obviously, you know, people have gotten enjoyment out of that, but it was created to promote Silent Hills, a game that has been canceled. So this is them removing the thing that says, hey, we're making Silent Hills, right, and makes total logical sense in that context. I never actually finished that thing. But does it end with references to like stay tuned for Hills some clips? Does it show read us? I think I think that in late title card where it actually says silent Hills. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, that thing is a surprise announcement for Silent Hills. It exists to do that, right, So if Silent Hills is dead, there's then having pt kicking around out there is probably a bad move. Like it's probably a liability for them. I can understand the business thought process, but at the same time, like it's a super cool thing, and I can understand why people would want to hang onto it. But and yeah, and you know, like this is going to be one of those like love finds a Way situations where you know, somewhere down the road everyone will be able to play a PT. It'll be fine. Yes, it will exist. You know someone has already dumped that to another hard drive and is hanging on to it for when the apocalypse come. Operatives have sprung into action on this. You know that thing will well someday unless unless the PS four ends up like the original Xbox it'll end up, you know, so you'll find someday. But yeah, like this doesn't like it's a sleazy move by Konami, in that they've been making a lot of sleazy moves lately, but this one is maybe the least sleazy. You can understand why they would do it, And some people were like they should have just yanked out all the Silent Hills stuff and put it back up. It's like, okay, so you want developers to go back into this dead thing change it just so you can continue to have this free ethic, Like there's no incentive for them to do that other than goodwill, which they've proven by recent activity. They don't give a fuck, They have none what you think about Konami. Yes, like they don't give a fuck, dude, holy shal to the ground. They really don't. So you know, the idea that like Konami is gonna do right by pt when it can't even do right by all of its other franchises, it's absurd, Like that's not a game company. They are not a game company. Yes, Konami just happens to occasionally make some video games. Now, yep. Well, then the sooner we start thinking about it that way, the slightly less infuriating, this will all become that's fair, right up until the day where they fucking figure out like oh maybe we can make some money by license and contract to someone who gives a shit or selling it, you know, and then things then things will be okay. Yeah, yeah, I mean the hyperbolic reaction to this thing going away has been more than a little off putting, you know, Like I get it, Like whatever I'd think that people had that is like being taken away in an above and beyond measure that most when most things are taken down, it doesn't happen like that. I mean, that's kind of the larger issue that this guy is racing. Although I mean, if I think what he's getting at is as a publisher ever going to take this this step with something people paid for and like that is inarguably beyond the pale, and like that hasn't come to pass yet, and like that I think is a is like lawsuit territory and imagine there's a lot of my only fear there is that like his language built to the eu LA is at this point that something you're releasing software. But also you know, if you think about it in terms of like online only games that have their servers shut off, like those are being de facto basically deactivated basically Yeah, I mean if people played for the paid for the Matrix Online, yeah, you know you can't. You can't play that, right? Did it have legal wording like in the Matrix Online saying like hey at some point you know, I can't say specifically in that case, but typically I know, like EA games have a lot of stuff like hey, within like we can give ninety days notice of shut down and fuck you? Is I think literally what it says? Yeah, uh so I bet that there's probably, but it's it's not necessarily about like an eu LA, and like having that stand up at chord, I think there's a lot of like right and wrong type stuff that you know, it's like, yes, you technically agreed to this thing, but that's not the end of this. This is still fucked and you know, let's go test it in a court, because like even you know, when stuff gets delisted on Steam for being shady, you can still download, you know, like I can still go to download that rock and roll racing rip off that those guys made. Is it just when you say delisted, but you can find it? You mean you have to go through like a search phone's stealing my Steam library. You just can't store, so you can't store, you can't deal listen from the store, but not from your library, you cannot buy it. So that would have been like the I think that's the ideal scenario for something like pt where like it makes sense that they want to dealist it stop people from downloading it. Like I don't know what the Sony agreements are, like who pays for bandwidth on distribution of demos or like what the deal and that specific case was it maybe where they were like, yeah, we're not gonna pay to let people keep downloading this thing that's free, that's not even a game. You know, we're not gonna make any of that money back, so kill it. Like I get that. And then you know, there are factors you mentioned, like the likeness rates with Rita's and let's stay through that out there. You know that could be that could very well be total bullsh but although I can kind of see an argument for like, you know, the misleading nature of this thing out there, promoting a product that no longer exists. Yeah, and and like asking them to like open it back up and you know, hey, remove the silent hills and then put it back up a charge for it, you know, like like yeah, maybe, but like that's not that that would have been a cool, like kind of meet in the middle, right sort of outcome for this is like clean it up and do whatever you need to do to sell it and then put it back out there for five bucks or whatever. That's what people want. But but you know, like you said, that involves Konami publishing a video game, and you know it's well established that's not really their forte Yeah, which dovetails very nicely into the next email from a person who did not leave their full name, but I'm gonna read their email anyway. Hi Bomb, crew. They're from Australia. I'll tell you that. You tell by the way they say bomb crew. Yep, damn it, says Oi uh I tell from their email address. I had a thought regarding Konami's apparent move out of the video game business space. There's currently a bill going through Japanese parliament that would legalize gambling, and it looks like it might pass. I think Konami might be almost uniquely positioned to really take advantage of this, as Konami has just as much history in gamblings in the gambling space as they do in video games. They are very much a worldwide presence in that market, and they already have a history in service based slash brick and mortar business operation with their health clubs. I think Konami maybe freeing up as much capital as they can to either get first mover benefits on having the first Vegas style casino in Japan, or converting some or all of their health clubs into Australian style clubs, a description of which would be boring to your listeners. If I was Konami, I'd do both and fill them all with my own slot machines. Who gives a shit about selling maybe an optimistic projection of five million copies of Silent Hills, and dealing with artists when you could be focusing on a potential whole new stream of Sheldon addleson level money. Yeah, and that's kind of seems like more or less what they're trying to do. Yeah. I mean they have a whole division KPE, which is like Konami Parlor Entertainment or something, and that's that's the division that put out like the Contra Pochi slot machine, and you know, like there they're doing that stuff. But the thing is is that that stuff spits out balls. Right now, I think the way they get around the I think we've talked about it, but I want to say the way they get around the gambling stuff is like those places you win balls, you trade balls for groceries or something like that, like their ski ball tickets or something. You sell the groceries for cold heart Okay, yeah, just turn these balls into cigarettes, because I need to keep sitting in this smoke filled pachinko parlor. God, this plays their nightmares. You think the arcades get bad with smoke over there? If you ever walked through that stuff? Nuts, because people just like live in the pachinko. Yeah, it's like an airport smoke lounge. Yeah, like Vegas, you walked through Circus Circus and you'll see the same type of thing. Oh, I don't know if it's quite that bad. Vegas smarter about ventilation control and that sort of stuff, where like now it's just like the fuck it man hang out in this haze and you could play virtual on or you could go across the street and hang out and even hazier room that has a bunch of fucking balls everywhere, you know, regardless of their intent with the gambling stuff. I mean this really, you know, the end of the email highlights kind of the issue of dealing with this like high risk, low margin kind of development at the triple A end of games these days, right, video game development is not like you know, like there were certainly people that were excited about the idea of a Silent Hill game, but yeah, like the notion like will it make its money back? Right, you know, like you're attaching big names to it, You're presumably entering it a full production with expensive things, like big names that have a lot of leverage and are probably going to make demands because you know, creatives always want the resources to make the things they want to make. Damn creative, you know what. You know what I mean, like people always want to make the best video game they can, like, whereas these like you know, suit wearing business people are trying to probably nickel and dime in the development as much as they can and not trickle out a dime more of you know, I would like to find that there's a little bit more meeting in the middle than you're painting it as. But yes, I don't know, Maybe maybe I have a little bit of what that struggle looks like. But I bet, I bet there are creative types that have a business mind, and any of business types that go like, let those lunatics do it. No, no, no, you're like they got here smoke sigars like you can. Again, not to keep harping on the double fine thing, but you can watch that to see examples of exactly what you're talking about, fire and his business guns, people who respect both sides of it, you know. But but what I mean is that, like it's easier to look at Konami cynically because they are making these moves, you know, it's like they are showing a lot of intent here with what they are slashing and burning already. So they played a lot of their cards. Yeah, they could still have one card that says like, you know, by the way, at E three, we're announcing nine games. But like, yeah, yeah, come on, everything they have done makes it seem like they just don't want to bear that that financial burden, that risk anymore of making expensive games that might not sell. And this has been happening for years. You know, like if you look at their output on consoles last year and you know the years before that, it was it was like a shift to mobile and you know, like it just wasn't was not their focus, which is sad because they also own Hudson's. There's like there's another fucking bundle of shit wrapped up in a nightmare. It's gonna happen to Master Higgins and all this. Yeah right, fuck, I mean the real Master Higgins. He's no longer there because they got rid of had some operations. I mean, sixteen shot. What's that dude doing. It's pushing buttons somewhere road a turtle shell right out of there. One last email about all this comes from someone who asked not to read their name right because they worked on Lords of Shadow. Hello, a few casts ago, you spoke about Hideo Kojima having his name and company logos removed from games after the split with Konami. There are a lot of conspiracies going around related to Konami being bitter and lashing out. The thing is, this isn't the first time this has happened. I worked on Castlevania Lords of Shadow that originally had Kajima Productions all over it. My co workers were extremely excited, and even though I expressed concern about the quality, I was assured that that logo was a seal of quality and that Hideo and that quote, Hideo would never let it go out if it was shit. Well, it went out and then and we then received a title update a few months later that removed all references to Kagema Productions. I don't remember that happening, but I guess I guess it did. Make of that what you will, but it does clearly show a precedent for this happening in the past, and it isn't always an indication of malicious intent from Kanaani. So I'm not percent sure what point they're trying to drive at the hours of Shadow was not worthy of the mark of quality. I don't. I don't think that's a very good game. So I well, that's where I would go with it. But this, this person would probably back to differ because they worked on it. You know. I think that it's maybe just as likely as someone who worked on that thing might be very, very aware of its flaws. But it's fair. Who knows. Some people definitely like that game. Yeah, I like it a lot. You're crazy, I don't. I did not much care for but you know, it happened before. I guess I thought Zoebek was cool. Yeah, for sure, you could call him Patrick's. It'll show up for anything these days. Uh yeah, you know they did it once and then they did it again, and now here we are. Am I right, you're not wrong, You're not wrong, all right? Moving on from all those shenanigans, Phil and Brooklyn rights in very simply and says, I'm watching Heat for the first time right now. I do not much care for this Wayne grow Fellow. Yeah, that guy was up to something. That guy Okay, yeah, I don't. I don't want to be friends with that guy. I don't want to be around that dude. I saw him at a bar. I might go to another bar. You just watched Heat for the first time recently. Yeah, I have a very embarrassing question. Yeah, which one was Wayne Grow? He was the guy that who plays him. I don't know the name of the actor. The first time they show him, I was wondering if they just completely based was a Cane or Lynch was the super crazy one? The Clynch is the crazy one who plays Wayne Grow. I don't know the is Okay, So it looks like, Okay, he looks a lot like he is the fucking dirt bag that they have to cut loose because he's he's the fucking crazy guy that shot all the people on the fucking armored car. I haven't seen Heat in twelve to fifteen years. Yeah, and then he's like killing hookers and stuff. Like he's not a savory character. He's the guy who's who is strangling prostitutes and god, and he's a he's a fucking bad character. You know, he fucking gets his Okay, if you have a Wayne Grow in the midst, I should really go do him before he does you. Yeah, because it's coming, yeah, one way or the other. He was a dick. I remember when I did see Heat. It was one of those early like right after DVD was starting to really get big and people really starting to get like crazy five one systems in their living rooms. That's how I saw that movie. Was a friend was like, you gotta come over, Radio, you gotta come over and watch the bank robery scene. And the bank robbery scene is fucking yeah, amazing. Here's the thing is totally show off my system movie. And that's how I ended up seeing it. I heard that so much and so like it started and that's scenes fucking great, and I watched it like three times, and the entire time I'm just like, I'm running around to all my surround sound speakers in my apartment and like just listening, like is anything coming out of here? And like I tried for so long to set sit up. I don't know if I know how to set up surround sounds because that wasn't really hearing anything, But like on other systems, sometimes I do, or if I'm playing a game, I will. I just don't understand the different settings. Sometimes I have to turn my ship off and back on to get it to kick into surrounding the order in which I turn on my components effects. What's what people were saying, I have audio, I get weird hand shaking issue. Yeah. Yeah, it's like turn on the PlayStation, then the receiver. Oh but then try doing the receiver person the receiver on last to get audio at all weird kind to make sure that your receivers even set to output that many channels. And it's not like you didn't excellently said it's I guess there's there's the surround sound aspect of it, but it's also like the gunshots. All that stuff is very crisp and and extremely well recorded and rendered. You know, like there's a lot of good basses. You know. It is just a It sounds fucking like when you see that thing in the theater. It sounds like you are in a fucking gunfight. It is great. There's no music or anything going on. It's just tons of fucking machine guns going off. It's great. Yeah, that movies really heat. It's a great scene. It's a good movie. Yeah. Uh, let's see. I don't know if I should attribute this email to OZ as it signed, or CS Jazz Club as it says in the from field. I like both. Subject line is cereal s jazz Club at your service. Subject line is tenth Prestige account. By now, you guys were discussing moded rooms and Call of Duty and it reminded me of the glory days of Call of Duty. For me, a friend of mine had a Jtag Xbox and was creating his own mods for Modern Warfare two. This is December nine. Call of Duty was hot shit and we were kings of the shit heap. Tenth press sigion no problem. My friend would host rooms and boost people in there for cash entry. These ship birds were paying serious dollar to jump in and boost. I think he made about three thousand pounds one in a week, which is about six thousand dollars for Dan fuck Man. I was buying as many forty eight hour gold accounts as possible, jumping into the lobby and boosting to tenth prestige and one kill. You get the picture. I sold accounts all Christmas on eBay thirty pounds a pop for a silver account with no stats and tenth prestige. Parents paid for this. I shit you not. Yeah, A superfluous rank zero gamer score with one kill on the stats on an account with some shitty name. I made up to this day It puts a smile on my face to picture some spoiled brat on Christmas opening their present to find they now have a new tenth Prestige account called Lama Nerd sixty six or cool Sniper X. I'd feel bad about it, but you know what, fucking Brad is Chinatown fair enough? Yeah? What do you really say after that? I don't know, man, that whole thing's a nightmare. Yeah, totally. I like it was the prestige really that prized in that community. Kids are dumb, I guess. So if you can be a kid to be like, yeah, I got all the way up there, like yeah, but is that the thing you want? Like you think that like the kills like a KDR or whatever. Lifetime Katie R. You jump in the lobby. People don't see your Katie, right, they see your tenth Prestige. Also, Sniper X is here. Also, I guess that was early enough in the like the cycle of call of duty, that is still somewhat rare to be tenth prestige as opposed to these days. There are two gamer tags that you might want to go ban Microsoft. Who knows if those are actually real. Uh, it's it's a little questionable that I'd thought it was a funny email. Yeah, fools and their money, right, yes, yes, exactly. I guess anyone that would pay for that kind of deserves to be taken for a ride. And and it's sad that like that those Xboxes were not detected and banned from Xbox Live. Yeah as well, like that they were able to slip through the detection. And are you talking about the ones they were doing this on, yes, because the accounts that are just as counsel. Yeah, you know, hey, that's plausible tony ability. I don't know how I got to this one, right, crazy? What's the j Is the jatax stuff just a mod thing? Yeah, like a silent stealth type thing. You can turn it off. I never really looked too deeply into that stuff, but I was kind of into it for a little while. But that's not ringing a bell at all. Yeah. I used to back in it, like in college. I used to pride myself on keeping up with the goings on in the scene or whatever. But Xbox Media Center, man, yeah, yeah, like for the original Xbox, like, you know, getting a copy of mecassault soft modeling it and run an XBMC like that is cool. XBNC was like one of the very first media center. Yeah it was. It was like one of my very first experiences with like an internet connected app of any kind. Yeah. It's like it had that news scroll at the bottom and I was like, fucking, where is it getting this news from? Like it's coming out of nowhere into my Xbox. It's awesome. It was incredible. I guess there's like, you know, emulators and stuff for three sixty, like this homebrew. This is a homebrew scene on the three sixty these days. I don't really know how deeps, but it does exist. And I think there's something similar on PS three because there was that period of time there that you could do weird ship with p S three's oh yeah, with the other os stuff. Yeah, oh that's right. Crack definitely open, all right. Walter from La writes in about frat bros. Finally let's get to the bottom of these fuckers. Yeah, hello, everybody. I was I was wondering if anyone on the Giant Bomb staff was in a fraternity, Even if you weren't, do you have any crazy stories? I feel I have a feeling Dan has one. I hated frat dudes. In college like just hate them. Like got dragged to a couple of parties at frat houses and immediately just got mad and left. God, I'm trying to think of any like one specific story or anything. That's gotta be good fraternities out there, I'm sure, but it's like they're like, yeah, stuff, yeah, yeah, it's it's everything I saw was all just kind of the stereotype that expect just kind of like just really broy skizy dudes and stuff. And like I had friends in the dorms that they were like, you know what, it's pledging or whatever the it's called when you're trying to get into a frat and like they were like, no, I know, you guys don't like frat guys, but like we know we're gonna be different. We're still gonna like hang out. We're gonna be cool. And like immediately, like just immediately they're total dicks and jello shots came out. Yeah yeah, and they won't like really hang out or anything. It's very insular community and just skizy and weird. And I don't know, I just I had a very visceral anti Yeah. I feel like most of my like interaction with like fraternity stuff has actually come after college years when you encounter people in the business world who still like to brag about that relations, that affiliation, and me, as someone who has no connection to any I'm just like, the fuck are you talking about? Like you've seem like the biggest douchebag in the world right now. It's like the guy who's like the high school course not enough to brag about, Like what college you would like, Well, I graduated from a very prestigious school like that, Like that's gonna fuck and be impressive to me or whatever. But then take it to the next step and go whose cup of five fucking dick back? Bragging to you sounds like a huge waste of breath, But like my understanding is it opens a ton of doors in the business world, which is kind of creepy. Actually, it's super creepy. Yeah, that stuff, That stuff follows you around. Apparently I went to tech school. They didn't have anything really like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Luckily I avoided all of it. Yeah. I didn't know a single person in a frat. I never went to a frat party. I'd steered super clear of all that stuff. Zero interest, No thank you, which just ah. It just always weirds me out when I very rarely see somebody refer to us as bros. In some way. I'm just like, like, do you know how we all grew up? What do you want, nerds? We are all right. Next email comes in from someone who requested that I writ not read their name, but they want to know about the possibility of working for the Devil. Well, now the Devil knows because we didn't play too many people, we haven't paneled a team of experts here. Now I want to hear your opinions. Here's a question I've been thinking about for quite some time. I'm about to obtain my bachelor degree in business administration and would like to work in the video game industry. The good there are many video game companies located in my hometown. Bad almost all of them are in the social, slash browser, slash mobile games business. It'll get me wrong. I'm not saying there's something inherently wrong with those kinds of companies and that these companies are evil, But knowing how most of them are just bad games, and seeing some of my friends fall into a deep hole playing them, I can't help but feel hesitant to send my application. I'm not sure whether I want to support and represent this kind of business, but they are pretty big. They're known to be one of the best employers around, and I'm sure many students would kill to work there. So what to do? Potentially work there and hate myself or let this opportunity pass me by? PSL tell John Drake the German localization of Record Run is pretty great. You fucking work there? Yes, I mean those games are not going anywhere. Yeah, they make a shitload of money and they you know, this guy probably will you know, the first two years, and maybe once the soul gets crushed a little bit, then you start branching up. I have experience or it just all becomes okay. Maybe and it might seriously, but still if you're still working like end games in some form, that's got to be better for your soul or whatever. They're like just going into some company that you don't give a shit about just because it's paying well or I don't know what it does to someone's resume. Like if you were to have that experience and then go apply to a studio that's not making those kinds of games, if they would just look at it and go, oh, Nope, don't want any of those type of people. I don't know, I don't know what impact it has one way or the other on that stuff. But he's in business management yet, so yeah, not development so much. Yeah, go to a company that I mean that's actually business. Like if you had if you were a business administrator person at a company that was doing good business and then you wanted to go work at a studio that was maybe doing slightly less good business, they might look at you and go, that guy could probably do better business than what we're not going like, maybe not super healthy business, but that you are more passionate about. Yeah, that's kind of potential trade off there. Yeah. You know, if you've got a good end right out of school, take it. These days, the whole it's rough out there. Yes, if you can get a job, get this and these days, if you've got a shot, you should take it. Just try to establish a little financial stability and then move on to something that you care more about. Also, maybe get in there and make a difference if you think if you think you think the games are scuzzy at exploitative, maybe go in there and burn it down, you know. And from a business administrator kind of role. Maybe maybe you could actually do that. Yeah, we've had a new business model that is less shitty but still makes us money. You might be in a position to, you know, twiddle some knobs on pricing and things like that and it skills are hope now still feel good about yourself along the way? Yeah, yes, you're our last, our last best hope fix this police. Uh Okay. Dave from Boston has a weird email. Would you guys live with Notch? That's kind of a what if if Notch put out word to the bomb cast that they could live with him for free forever? Would you do it? You would have private living arrangements big enough for a family and kids. The yard and pools would be communal. You would never have to see Notch, but he would be a good friend, always ready to kick it. The only stipulation is if you say yes, it would be your home forever. Would you guys give up all your independence to take the wild Notch Ride. Food isn't included unless you ask, in which case he will provide infinite sashimi. Well, all your independence, you're allowed to leave the house and do stuff and hang out with people that aren't Notch. People, right, I guess so I would. I would go as long as he promised that he wouldn't constantly be having those parties and inviting a much of DJs over like in that those pictures. I don't want to be hanging around DJs all the time. I'm concerned that this email is just a weird setup for Dave from Boston's Scuzzy slash Fiction. But okay, yeah, baby, Like I've had some shitty fucking roommates and they've worn fedoras. I mean, you basically got your own private house on the ground. Yeah grounds. I don't know, I get, I don't know. Do you get to eat the candy from the candy room? I mean, he's got a candy room. He would always be a good friend ready to kick it. It doesn't involve candy. That sounds like a yes. If he's a good friend, he would let you eat. Get friends that like to kick it would be like he definitely, I'll let you eat the candy Twizzlers, Let's go hang out on the couch. I wonder about the sanitary conditions in that candy room for so many preservatives for those not worry about it, or those dispensers can people just reach their hands in there. I think they're like you know, at the grocery store and he pushed handle down and put the bag on. Nobody's handling the stores of candy. Okay, someone has to put it all in there. It's true. That's fine. You just pour a bag in. Yeah. I bet some characters come through that house that you don't want handling your candy. Yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't know. I don't know. It's with a loss of independence that's getting you, uh, the fact that you can never leave. If you can't leave the house, then no, that's with candy. I don't. I don't think you can't leave the house. It's just that you would always that would always have to be your residence. You know, you think about like, you know, long term, you stretched this thing out. It's like, would that be a good place to raise a kid? I don't know, Yeah, okay, maybe maybe what the kid really liked Minecraft and if you had a separateary, well whatever, he doesn't. He doesn't know any part of Minecraft. He's true, that's true. Yeah, he's just an idle billionaire laying or you know, if your kid loved Minecraft out by the pool, it would be the worst place. Hear a new game or you know, hanging out with doctor Dre and talking about money, talking about billionaire stuff. Yeah, doing billionaire things that. Yeah, I don't know. That doesn't that doesn't sound immediately appealing, all right, Dave from Boston, I think we're split on this issue. My mortgage is not so expensive that that's like, yeah, you know, yeah, sure fine. Different Day writes in about figs made with bugs, Dan, figs are fine. Stop being a gigantic baby for everything. That's what he said. For everything I hear about that, I hear someone say, like, no, a wasp pass it fermented and sit in there and hang out for six years before they can sell it or reable me read the email. Okay, maybe it'll change yours. Ground up bugs, That's all it is. Although figs are indeed pollinated by fig wasps crawling into the inside of the fruit, they are fine. First of all, these bugs are only wasps because they are a member of the wasp family and are unlike the common wasp we are used to. They are tiny, barely a millimeter long. That's very small, and can fit through the eye of a pin. I have a needle Secondly, after the wasp enters the fruit, it dies, the fig breaks down the wasps body using a protein called pheisson. The fig then uses the wasps protein to grow the pulp of the fruit, so by the time the fruit is ripe, there are no remnants of the wasp inside the fruit. So they say, also, you eat more insect parts in your average bag of washed mixed greens, bar of chocolate, or even in the hops that make your favorite beer. In fact, by FDA standards, up to five percent by weight of the hops that go into alcohol production can be bug parts. We have been eating bugs since the earliest mammals. So unless Dan is not actually a mammal, he can eat all the bugs he could ever want. And if that scares him, remember one day the bugs will be eating him. I just don't want to know that I am eating bugs. If if they're in beer because some stupid thing happened and they disintegrated, whatever, fine, that's cool. That's actually when it comes to figs, all I care about is fig Newton's because I don't even know how you eat a real fig or what it goes into or whatever. You just by like a pair figs are small, You can kind of put the whole thing in your mouth. See that's I don't eat it. I don't think I've been in the same room as a fig. All I care about is how a limb here and say that you have, in fact been in the same room as a fig. Grocery stores. That's a room outside of grocery stores. I don't think I've been in the same room as I bet someone's had stealth figs on him and you've just never fucking known it. I can't trying to think everyone I've ever met, I don't think any of them were fig. Any one of us could have figs in our pockets right right now, man, but I wouldn't know it. So I'm making her at the back. So I'm a dan, Dan, what I guess something to show you. No, I'm not gonna look over there. Come over here. No, I got some. Last time I felt for that, it went way wrong. Just look at just just looking in my pocket here. No, that's not numb. That's how it starts. Told the phone. Uh No, like our fig Newtons made a thrill figs because that's all I care Aboubably, theoretically, yes, let's let's assume from the sake of argument. Yes, there is real because again I'm not eating a thick Newton since I heard about the but you have made a like weird fake four in fig Newton's right. Whatever Danny brought over from crazy Town or were those irish? Those were from a male by those crazy Town? I think it was a upf mail bag thing or something. Did Shifty shell Shock bring us some figs? She loves him some figs? Oh, it's fig crazy way into figging. I mean he was having trouble. That's a good name. He probably is a big ninja Turtles fans. There are no actual wasps left in the figs. You should eat some figs. They're good. Have you guys seen snow pier? Sir? No, Okay, think about this. Sometimes animals pee on things that you then eat later. You know, if you want to think about like disgusting stuff that happens during food production, you probably shouldn't eat. But again, if I'm ignorant to the fact it can't hurt, I'm telling you you are ingesting urine every day. I had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch today. How those peanuts? I took it from the bread thing and I took it from the jiffy thing and I put it on there. There was no peanuts in there. Pan on peanuts. We're talking about animals are running around peanut and peans talking coyote pean on a peanut tree. How are peanuts growing its trees? Sure, we're talking parts per million here. You might not know it, but it's in there. No. I've never even along the same lines of like, hey, guys, farts are really pooh particles. Like you aren't drinking pea on a daily basis, I don't know it. You're eating can't hurt me constantly. I bet taco bell is fucking full of bug parts. No, fucking full of it. No. No, And rat hairs, who, oh my god, the rat hares. Holy shit, there's no rats. Clean dude. The FDA allows a bell number of rare speak about the path that that meat takes to market. By the time it gets to the taco bell, it's been in warehouses and freezing facilities and different stuff like that is dude, Like probably dry humps a bag of meat before it goes out the door, and it's delicious. Like whatever, I'm not sitting here saying don't eat tacos that's essential that shakes it up and just the right way they've got raps lined up. I am a fair style. I'm more concerned with what humans who are handling the food have been doing. Out as someone who worked at McDonald's who was fourteen and the things over did to the food. And uh, my buddy who had a buddy who worked in the subway and knowing what he did to the food, I'm way more concerned about. We worked with a guy who worked at Taco Bell briefly, and he said you to just like put his face into the lettuce, put it in his mouth, chew it up, and have it all fall back into the lettuce. This was in the nineties, but one has to assume that someone yeah, you know, it's like there are just enough stories about like, hey, we caught a guy jacking off in the back. Yeah, oh great, Taco Bell. Actually there's a local there's a pedalument pizza place that was that had a situation like that as well. Wait during business hours where they were they like required by law to publicize that. I don't I don't know what the actual or did somebody catch the guy and they had to get out I think I think it ended up. Yeah, someone caught the guy. They had to get on front. I'm trying to figure out why, as a business you would want to make that public unless you had to. I think it was the same pizza business that a friend of mine once told me that they were running strip shows out of the back of it. And it was just like He's like, yeah, we we're gonna we know this girl, she's gonna come over. She's totally gonna strip do put on show in the back of this pizza place at two three in the morning. I'm like, you guys, have fun. I gotta go. It's early day tomorrow. No, you guys, knock yourselfs out. I just can't be snow McCarty, Ladies and gentlemen. The happiest place on earth. You know. It's like it's like twin peaks sometimes see that the good and the bad. Good pie. But man, Danny, I'm gonna bring some figs in on Friday. I'm not gonna eat him some. If you bring in fig Newtons, I'll think about it. Can I refer you again to the title of this email, Dan, Figs are fine. Stop being a gigantic baby. Everything you're right after that made it sound like they're still wasp in there, unless there's a guy at the bigotton factory whose job is to go with tweezers and pull all the wash out all the fig newtons. I'm done with it, I mean, what's the matter with a wasp? Though? I don't I don't understand as first mean bugs that sting you? Okay? These wasps are a millimeter large. They are only wasps by name. No wasp was a friend of mine. Also, they are dissolved in the fig I don't care. They're just they're just loose protein molecules. At that point, sid snake, we need a live wasp? Yeah, yeah, it fell a snake. Half the man I slid snake. I'm gonna eat. I'm gonna bring some figs in. I'm gonna eat some figs. You go aheads are great? Dates are pretty good too. I don't really like dates onam. What's wrong with you? Pile? I don't think i've seen one of those either, for fuck's sake. I mean, I've probably passed that on the grocery store. And they're tiny fruits for weirdos. Peter from South Africa, Why are the Mario brothers called Mario brothers when Mario is not their last name name. That's all in the movie. That's all. The movie is close to Canadas, No no, no one, and no one has refuted it. Yeah. I interviewed Miyamoto and I asked him about it, and he said, no, that's not their last names, all right, Well whatever, And he also said the couple things aren't Bowser's kids anymore. And he said that Yoshi's Island is uh super Mario World two canonically. He's fucking what does he know? He's not lying about this. I know I actually did. Who does he think he is? Mario is not their last name? Well, okay, what the great? Then they don't have it. It's Mario Luigi. They're brothers, their Italian they have to have last names. We don't know them. They don't have to disclose that, all right. Actually, I think legally, whenever Luigi moves he has to go door to door and tell people his full name. Nice thanks for that, Oh goodness. Stephen writes in from from Long Island about that company that couldn't pronounce last week. I live near where they're named after, and it's basically pronounced like hop Hog. That's hop and hog hop Hop Hop Hop Hog Hop hop Hog. That makes sense? So sound right? Is a company? Yes, we were talking about their little thing that lets you watch antenna TV on an Xbox One. And I didn't know. I'd never known how to say that. I've I guess I've been saying it right the entire ten That's awesome. I guess the idea there must be a place near or on Long Island that is called that. Apparently, hop Hog is the only time living on Long Island has ever been relevant or useful. So I just thought i'd clear that up for you strong. I don't know, go on, uh, let us see what email I'm gonna read next. Nathan from Olympia, Washington says, hey, bomb crew, what was the first video game you ever remember? Playing a Breakout twenty six hundred? Yeah, well that that was the first, like home console stuff arcade? Oh man, I don't know. I'd say Super Mario Brothers. And he asked, I remember playing the Space Invader's Pinball Machine. But do what really? Early on weird? I didn't know that existed. Yeah, it's cool. The Aliens look all weird. Also not a video game? Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Uh, the first thing I can remember is either combat or Haunted House on twenty six hundred. I'm not sure which, probably combat. I don't know something around there. How are you supposed to remember that you're like four years old? Yeah, I saw, I guess so I lost my first video game console in a flood and eighty two flooded. We got evacuation was it? It was a fair Child Channel F and all the pictures from that era were thought to be lost, but apparently my mom does in fact have something and including included in there was a picture of a water logged fair Child Channel lay. That sucks. Yeahse I made my fair Child semiconductor. Yeah, well, mister fair Child, if you're nasty, the channel L was extremely nasty. What do you think the F stood for? Yikes? Fucking boring ass games? It stood for yeah for bowling is the only good game on this thing? Uh? Nick from Missouri wrote in about the last hole of desert Golf on't come on this is This is actually a pretty crazy email. I know you haven't been talking about desert golf lately, but I've been playing it ever since hearing about it on your Game of the year deliberations. I've been playing it obsessively, and while some holes have been incredibly challenging and almost impossible, I've made it to whole number four thousand, four hundred and seventy one. However, I'm convinced this hole is literally impossible. After over three hundred strokes, I contacted the developer of Desert Golf, Justin Smith, explaining how this hole is impossible, to which he replied, it's probably impossible. It happens to everyone eventually. So my question you guys, is what is the maximum hole you were able to reach, and what's the maximum level you've heard someone reaching. I've still never played Desert Golf, so I feel like Danny might be the furthest he was into, Like he was like past a thousand, wasn't he good? So he sent a screenshot of his full email exchange with the developer, And the crazy part is that apparently everybody's hole number forty four seventy one is different, but they're all impossible. He said, he's never had someone tell him they've been able to get past that particular hole, even though they're randomized. For some reason, that hole is insurmounted. Just the algorithm I guess. I don't know. I came to des golfing lethily late and I'm a hole one oh five. I have yet to install it, probably won't touch it. Hang on one of six? Nice? Should I just get that? I don't know why I never got that. I think Dan still chuckling about three hundred strokes. I can't no, I wasn't. Yes, you are no goddamn adult. I know it's good. You should download it. Yeah, God damn it, this game. Don't download it. Don't really play games on my phone anymore, is the main thing you guys still doing. Crassy Road fired up like once every couple of months for five minutes, but I haven't really been games. That game apparently made a ship ton of money. I don't know if you guys saw good. It's a great game. Cross the Road did quite well for those guys. It's playing whale Tail with a whale trail. It's just another kind of endless runnerything with a fun song to plays. But it's not h it's not a razor. It's instead, uh, the guy from Grizzly Bears. I forget what it is, whale Trail. I've been playing a galaga teching as of late. Yeah, I installed that. What the fuck it's Galaga Tech. It's like it's yeah, it's like it's Galaga, but the sprites have been redone to look like weird Sprite techn characters. That sounds stupid. I want to see that. And and then when you lose or something, it just pops up an ad for Tech and seven. Right, Yeah, it's just I don't did you see that? Did you see the Tech and seven design for Yoshi Mitsu floating around? I saw that. I got out there, but I just got like crazy tentacles coming out all over the place. Yeah, good stuff. I'm I'm kind of starting to look forward to Tech and seven. Yeah, this is it's seen so weird cycle where I go, I could go for another Tech and it's not even that, it's more never tagtooed and didn't really do that. Yeah. I think it's more like like Harada the producer out there like trolling people on Twitter over it and like some of the weird character design stuff. Fun. Yeah, promoting that game. Yeah, Like I kind of just want to see what the thing. I have to guess the like the console announcement for that thing will happen at tgs. I'm sorry, I E three if not ts like that game is just about out in our kids, like past location testing, it's real close, right, Yeah, there's been playable builds out there, arcade builds show enough at tournaments and stuff looks looks good. Yeah, but I mean not a huge leap forward in the teckn. That's something I mean, you know at some point seven yeah, right, you know, if they were gonna make their huge leap, they would have made it by now. They tried with four and four sucked. It is somewhat institutionalize, all right. A couple more emails. This comes in from Jill. She says, I'm a girl who loves any kind of game and almost all sports. I have plenty of guys who are friends and yet at twenty eight, have never been in a relationship or even on a date. I have a few other friends who are like minded, girls of different races and body types, et cetera, who experienced the same issue. It seems like a lot of the time guys who are gamers aren't really interested in a significant other who was also interested in gaming. I was wondering if that was true for any of you as well. And from all your experience, if it is more an opposite to track kind of an issue you or if you have any insight as guys who enjoy and spend a lot of time gaming. Basically, do you guys prefer to have gaming as a kind of quote guys time and spend time with lady friends doing other things. I know it's kind of a silly question to ask, as everyone has different opinions and preferences, but I appreciate it all the same. I guess I've kind of heard of that moment on of like I think everyone's going to be a little different. I guess, so, I don't know, and they can both be great. You know. I've had relationships where, you know, we both play games and it's really fun to play games together, and then ones where they have zero interest in it. And then you also have that opposite thing where it's like, oh, so she's introducing me at all this stuff that I've never seen before, so that's cool. So yeah, either one can totally work. I prefer the blend where you're both into gaming but in different genres. I guess, like, yeah, that's kind of where I'm at. I've known a couple actually, and they were heavy into like MMOs, and their relationship literally was like you know, he was on one side of the room, she was on the other, Like they're totally in Yeah, they like interact, see like a like a dual TV set up in the living room with like two sets of consoles and stuff like that. Yeah, I know a couple like that as well. I've never known anybody who was in the games who would like shun a potential romantic interest because they were also into games. That sounds I think fucking insane. And then the girls that would shun guys really yeah, yeah, well no, I mean if you're are you saying they were is I've never seen like, yeah, I think most people that I have talked to guy wise, you know, that are looking for significant other if if if you mean yeah, yeah totally, if you're talking about people who are not in the games and don't want their partner to be in the games, I've totally heard of that, Yeah, yeah, repeatedly, because it's you know, there's certainly a still I might say, like a stigma of childishness. If I was in a relationship with someone who was like deep, deep, deep deep into games and in a way where I was being pumped for information about like upcoming products and like, oh, would you see today? Would you do? Like that would be exhausting for me? Sure, yeah, but that's kind of a very specific you issue, that's not that's not a very common thing to apply. I know. You know, there's the stereotype out there of like like guys who don't want to date girls who are smarter than them, which I think is fucking crazy and stupid, Like why why would you not want to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you constantly so you can learn? But like, I don't know if what she's talking about plays into that at all, But I don't know, find people that like what you like or joke or find people that don't but are receptive to new things and they share with each other. That's also cool. Yeah, yeah, I think the whole thing of like I gotta meet somebody who's into games or like, like now you really yeah, that should? I would That should probably not be your first selection criteria. It's it's I need to meet someone who respects what I'm into, is into stuff that I respect as well? Yes, you know, like that's really all that matters. Yeah, you know, find somebody connect with on a basic human level and go from there. Uh, John sends from his iPad Work Time Fun. You guys haven't talked about w TF in years, so I decided to email you this so you can recall how amazing that thing is. It has been a while. I posted a screenshot of the Raman timer to my tumbler about half though, because I was playing Work Time Fun. I knew that you would have something to say. Reaped some pens like less than ten days ago. Did they ever make a sequel? No, they ever making anything. It was a sequel. In fact, what there was a PS one game that the same crew, some of the same crew made, but like it was affiliated with a weird electronic music act or something like that. I forget the actual circumstances of it, but it was like a really weird thing on PS one. A couple of mini games in Work Time Fun are from that game. Weird. It's a shame they never did more of that. Like the Warrior ware stuff was fine, but then here comes WTF. Just be an extra like next level weird. Yeah, yeah, like there was like there was like a gold rush or maybe not, but there were there were a few people to try to make their warrior Ware knockoffs, like hot Pixel for PSP feel the Magic xxx y. Yeah, but that was significantly different enough, Like that, wasn't that pretty like Rapid Fireman again? Yeah, but it was you know, it had a story Rubb rabbits. Yeah. Also, wasn't that like a d S launch game? Yeah? They had like the touch Yeah, which Warriorwear Touched was also a touch game later. Yeah. I just I feel like the bleatant warrior Ware clones were easy to spot yep back then. But Worktime Fund never came off like that to me. No, that thing is it's just a fucking nightmare. Yeah, totally. It's the anti warrior Ware. It's games you're supposed to play for your entire life. Right, I had nothing out of it. Right, They should have done more with that thing? Was great? Yeah, uh all right. Last email from Kennon Pittsburgh, Biscuit versus waffle Taco. Bell recently abandoned the waffle taco for the Biscuit Taco. I call this an improvement, not because all biscuits are better than waffles, but because I believe Taco Bell can make a better biscuit than a waffle. This got me thinking, though, which is better if you eat the world's best waffle or the world's best biscuit, Which would you choose? Just outside of the realm of Taco Bell and all that stuff, just waffle, because because I bet your ass the best waffle or biscuit is not going to be a Taco Belle. We can't assume that those waffel tacos were fucking nightmare. There were horrible. As much as I love Taco Bell, that waffle tacoling was not bad. They're right to get rid of it. I saw, I saw a picture of the biscuit taco. It doesn't look much better. I've heard that's good. Actually, it's all right. It's got chicken on. I went to day one, the launch of the Taco Bell Breakfast, super excited about that waffle taco and it was not good. That things ship. Yeah, sidestepping the issue waffle, I go with waffle. Waffle, Yes, waffle? Are we talking about justin a Taco Bell. No, this is gonna be a straight up Mason Dixon line split. World's best waffle versus world's best biscuit.
