Soul, Go night, everybody, four finger discount dude, Welcome to four ft this gud the podcast that is only worth half a buck. This week we are Hitter review episode three f one two. It is but the think I am Dando and I am Guy, the handsome pete of podcasting. Now you're certainly worth more than actually, Miss Davis. How long would you dance for if somebody gave you a quarter? Look, I don't move these dancing feet for anything less than folding money. So you know better you better makee with the green. Now we joined today, mister Davis, of course, by a very special guest, a man who we hold very near and dear to our hearts. He is a host of another Simpsons podcast. Someone would say arguably better than ours. Who know you'd be the judge, But it is the Simpsons Index podcast, big supporters of us here at four Finger Discount, and this man here is one of our biggest supporters. He is the man the mydth for legend here is Alliott J. O'Neil. How are you doing, my good sir? Doing great? Thanks guys. Yeah, oh, today's the day for Elliot J's certainly been a long time coming, hasn't it. But you know, before we get into things, I just want to let you guys know. You know you've been hearing the name Elliott ja Nier on all of our podcasts here at the four Finger Discount Network for like six plus months now, So before we get into it, I just want to say a huge thank you, mate for all of your ongoing support. It's it is truly appreciated. No, absolutely as a fellow podcaster or it warms my heart to see someone yeah throw it like just going at at full one hundred percent, just really putting your roll into it. And yeah, kudos to you and your enterprise that you're building up here. Speaking your folding money. I mean, he's the man with the folding money. Goodness me throwing out well as our American friends say A Benjamin so Simpson's Index podcast for our listeners out there who may not have listened to the show before, let us know, what is the Simpsons Next podcast? Hell, I've been doing it for now, like six plus years. Yeah, since twenty sixteen. And yeah, we started out doing reviewing three episodes at a time, except one would come from each decade. So we used to use that as just a sort of way to directly compare what has changed over the show in the years, and yeah, how it's evolved and all that, and so yeah, we ran into the unfortunate problem that we run out of older episodes to reviews. So now we're just doing one episode at a time, and yeah, just doing the new stuff new being relative that it's episodes from the last fourteen or so. Yes, Yeah, I think that's important too, especially now, is that having oncept with a Simpsons podcast, Because when we started out, Mitch and I back in twenty fifteen, there was like one other Simpsons podcast, So the idea of just going through in chronological order that was still somewhat fresh and unique. Now there's so many people doing that, so it's hard to stand out. So having a concept like what you're doing definitely makes you stand out of the pack in my opinion. Yeah, absolutely, And I've just built up a whole bunch of knowledge about an era of the Simpsons that not many people care about. So that's fun. Yeah. How fun is it actually going through like the teen years and discovering episodes that you might have never revisited and gone, shit, this is actually pretty good. Yeah. Well, I guess I was in the unique position that in most of the teen eras, I was still watching it week to week and recording it on my little VHSS and all that sort of stuff. Like, yeah, I had episodes from like season fifteen on videotape recorded from Channel ten. Yeah, so like I never totally went away from the show. But yeah, especially during those late teen eras and twenties, it was, yeah, a bit hard to be a dedicated Simpsons fan than the early days, certainly, But I don't know, just putting a podcast to it sort of helped give that viewing focus and you know, just trying to figure out, well, what is working what isn't working about the new era, Like, yeah, and that's kind of where my podcast went from there. From that idea, I think it's something that we've certainly found as we enter the late teens on four Finger Discount, Elliott is that, well, it's certainly something that I was thinking, is like, we're entering a bit of a not a dead zone, but we're entering uncharted waters perhaps or perhaps choppy waters. And I think that Dana and I have been pretty surprised and very happily surprised, certainly going through season seventeen, which we thought, oh my god, there's going to be death it actually we found episodes that are really entertaining, you know, really well made, well written, well performed, almost vintage Simpsons in some ways. Yeah, I still maintained that in every season there's at least a couple of decent episodes, like you can't totally write it off. But yeah, even season seventeen, which is actually on our podcast once we averaged out the scores, currently our lowest ranking Team's era season, um, even that has got two of my favorite episodes of the whole Team's era, which is um the seemingly never ending story the whole story within a story within a story, and the one where Bart gets abducted by a guerrilla as well is wonderful episode. That's the one that's where I've been watching your heads of My Fair Laddy, that's the one after that. I watched this and I'm like, guy's gonna hate this. That's because that's the B plot. What's the A plus? It's a Marge story, isn't it? That one? The able act she's looking after the rod and tide, that's the Yeah, that's right. Yeah, but yeah, my fair Laddy. Yeah, good luck. Well, we all know that groskipper Willie is guys least favorite character, So that's gonna be a fun one, is that right? Well, I'm just anti Scottish, but you're anti musicals, not being Willie in that one, you know, So he might enjoy it. But we're here to talk about but the think you think episode mister Elliot Joan Heart, why do you select this one? I mean it's obviously it's awesome, but why did you select it specifically? Oh? Man, I do remember, because the format of our of the Simpsons Index back when we're reviewing three episodes at a time was we'd watch the most recent teens era and then we'd finish off the night with a classic. We did it that way, so we ended the podcast on a positive note at least it was somewhat guaranteed, and especially in the case of this one, where um especially because I think with this one, it had been a while since I saw it, but I watched it so much as a kid. And it's funny because there are it is doing this classic Simpsons thing of being thoroughly entertaining for kids, but like, you get something so much more out of it being an adult and getting some of the references that fly over your head and everything. And yeah, this one especially, it's just such, it just goes on. It's such a clip, such a breakneck pace of a story, and of course got to give it up for I'm sure everyone's favorite classic Simpson's writer John Swatswelder, who just hand a wonderful episode here. Yeah, I think this would have been perfect from a marketing perspective too, because you can't tell me that they wouldn't have had ladies and gentlemen. Crust of the Clown is dead. That would have been the promo. It's like, wow, I've got to watch this one. Crust He's dead. Yeah. I was trying to remember, and I was trying to go through the archives to see if there were any promotional materials or commercials that still existed, because yeah, I swear they were leading the marketing with that, and like, oh, is he really dead? You know what's happened here? Oh flaming wreckage. Yeah. Do you think anyone watching the show would think, oh, my god, he really is dead? Or is it more like, oh, this is an interesting development that they're going to have some fun exploring, because I mean it strikes me as the kind of swift move you might pull in season seven of the show that's kind of successful even with a character as you know, beloved and almost kind of pivotal, as crusty Mother Simpson is earlier this season, isn't it? So they've already had a faking the death story, haven't they? Oh yeah, with Mother Simpson? Yeah. True. For some reason, I remember the Mother Simpson angle being Homer's mother's back in town. But then they but then they threw in the Homer's dead angles. But you don't realize it was actually flipped around the way the stories were unbound in that episode. But yeah, they've I didn't realize I've already done a faker death story in this season. It's not very often they would have copied stories like that in the same season in this era anyway. Yeah, and as that as well, it's building off the whole Barton Krusty dynamic. You know they've already had, but you know, saving him a couple of times they've had him being on his show and like, yeah, how do you tell a new story with the fan and the entertainer here? Yeah, and I found they just carved out a brilliant one here, like especially but like it's not funny, but him dealing with his grief and guilt and everything around it. Like all he wanted was an autograph, the poor kid, And yeah, they really put him through the ringer. It's yeah, it's ruined the basis of his life. But I like the aspect of Krusty where Rusty's furious at Bart but he can tell and especially in that moment where he says, you can punch me in the face and Krusty thinks about it and then it doesn't. It's almost like Krusty knows it's his fault. He just doesn't want to accept it it's his fault. He wants to blame this kid, but he's like, just go home, kid, I know it's my fault, but I'm angry but to go away. I really like that because when you're a kid, you sort of look at it in too much detail. And I remember when I was a kid too, I remember thinking, who's this Bob Newhart guy? He's weird who apparently at the Simpsons studios was like a huge hit that to shutdown production because everyone wanted to go watch him in the studio. Well, the man is a comedy legend, you know, on par with the herschel j Krostowski. I mean, he's such a really individual and distinct voice in American comedy. I mean there's no one there's not really really anyone like Bob Newhart who's still with us. Yeah, it's like ninety six. Wow, I think I looked at up with ninety six? Is that what he wasn't? So I look, let's look him up. Where is he? He seems like one of those guys who was actually born ninety six. He is ninety three years old, currently ninety three years old, kicking along. Wow, still doesn't look at day over ninety stories. He wasn't even it wasn't. It wasn't exactly like over the top and enthusiastic like Robin Williams. You can imagine his heart exploding like he wouldn't. He wouldn't have made the past seventy surely Robin Williams because he was just so fucking crazy. But like Bob Newhart, he's so mellow and chilled, and you understand why he lasted so long. Yeah, take your time, just to let the jokes fall out when they do. And yeah, like I said, this episode moves at such a breakneck pace. I love that they just totally pause for like a minute and change just to let Bob new Heart do wiz thing. Yeah, apparently for like two three minutes longer as well. We just have to cut this because the episode came in long. The episode after they'd cut that still came in at twenty six minutes. There was a wow, way too much stuff, And Josh Weinstein said that the key to that is because the Crusty character speaks so slow. So it's because he speaks so slowly, the episode just seems to episodes based on him drag out long ago, which once I read that, I was like, you're right, But I never when I watched the Trusty character, he never think I was talking slow. It's just I think it's when he says things like a huge geez, like he drags out his words a lot more. Yeah, yeah, he entertains, he makes sure that everything's heard perfectly. Well. Yeah, apparently there's a lot of Phil Hartman came out of this episode as well, which is tragic. Oh my god, I would pay just to watch all the Phil Hartman outakes. They need to get all those outtakes. Surely they've gotten recorders somewhere and no, no, but they put some stuff in the DVDs. But surely something there's still something out there that we haven't heard before. Yeah. It makes me want to dig through the season seven cuts to see if they had anything there. Yeah, yeah, I can't quite remember. Hey, my favorite what were your favorite moments, mister O'Neill from But the think, oh my god, where do you pick? Um? Honestly, just from the start, it just is so relentless. Um, I'm stalling for I'm here like Bob new Heart sort of way, I don't know, just going to the bank and the lines of bank tellers all dressing up as a different thing, Like was this ever a thing? Like I don't know if it was, but I found this delightful. I never realized until I watched it for this review. Specifically, I didn't realize that I was just as dear as I had the antlers on the next time he went, I'm like, is it Christmas time? What's what's the theme this time? I don't think I ever experienced themed banks, but maybe you do in America, But I never picked up on the deer antlers the next time you went in? Yeah, yeah, I looked back just to see if there was a joke setting that up. There isn't. They're just very in deer antlers everywound and see whether said something at the front and doesn't know yeah, and they had to such as well. And everyone's got like other guys got like a building something Yeah, through the roof. Well. My favorite, my favorite moments where Wigham he says, don't worry you guys, there's nothing wow, get on this flaming wreckage, come around, Ann. I really loved and this is my stually, probably my favorite moment is Homer trying to comfort but while you can wake up dead tomorrow and but staring at him, I'm like, that is one of my favorite frames of The Simpsons ever. Just the now that I'm a father, sometimes you know, Alie's just sort of understood the concept. My son, for those unaware, is now nearly five, is hating to understand the concept of death and people dying and things like that, and trying to explain that to a child. It's like, I don't know how I'm doing this. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just winging it, and Homer is just winging it here. But just the look of Bart here looking at home is like what That's what Alliott gives me. And of course the crap that's yeah, the guy, amazing one time character the like, and this quote is so useful living in Australia as well. It's too art today. But the thing is it's just the focus on the delivery of oh crap each time yeah, okay it escalates, But also just a perfect design of that man as well. He just looks like the kind of seedy banker living it up and the living up in the tropics, you know, and in himself. Anything else, anything else to add to the favorite moments, mister Davis, I've got a few, actually, if they don't mind, we'll go through real quick. Something I've always liked and I forgot it was in this episode, As often the case when you're revisiting episodes you haven't seen in a while, When Bard gives least the check, unless just very professionally says thank you. It's something I find just adorable. When Krusty Burger becomes Rs Burger and Homer goes in and places order instead of old the lettuce withhold the lettus. Yep. I never got the joke, and I still don't to this day. He orders a fiker Chino. What's that? What is a faker Chino meant to be? Referencing's lost him? Fiker I believe is something to do with us finances. But I've heard the term before, but I'm not sure exactly what it means us listeners that there right since his mail bag at Gmail don't come, we want to hear from you. I believe it's an acron and fica, but I'm not sure because like Krusty, I don't really by my taxes. Nope. Oh crap. A line that I've used um on this podcast and all many times in real life. It gets a little blue. That's fantastic. Um. Just the shout out to Moby Dick from the from the Sea Captain call me back Ishmael and it's not really funny, but I love Crusty is sort of like Henry Hill from good Fellas when he's sitting on the He's sitting on the curb outside his outside his mansion. He's like, I gotta ride the bus like a schnuck. He's just getting really angry about living this very ordinary life. And it's basically raylely Otter at the end of good Fellas saying, I tried to get Getty Mare and there they gave me noodles an egg, and they gave me noodles and ketship. What that was? That was Rayle as played by Woody Allen. So I got noodles and ketchhip. So but that that's what I enjoyed from the from Woody Allen's legend lives on through this podcast through Guy four figure discount of the podcast, where Woody Allen remains uncancelled. Yeah. Next question you there eating the paste. Do you have any trivia questions for us? Is Salia Janiel. I did prepare some. All right, then i'll Guy attempt to answer first, and if you can't, I'll chime in. All right, we're talking before about Homer ordering at the IRS Burger. What does it say on the two bins that are in the IRS Burger? In a nice taxation joke, it says gross refuse and net refuse. Nailed it, alrighty. My first question will be you'll go ape for what it says on the sign as they're walk into the bank. Is it there low rates? No? I guess I was about some home loans. It's car loans. ALRIGHTY. Got your first question, Uh, what year did the Krestowski family arrive at Ellis Island? I want to say nineteen thirty two? You'd be in correct incorrect. I was gonna say nineteen twelve, and you'd also be incorrect, but you're both very close. You've just got one number incorrect. It's actually nineteen o two two. AK. Alright. My your next question, Eliot, sorry, what were Marg's gambling losses last year? It's a seven hundred dollars correct? Nice little callback there, all right. My next question is how much did Bart give jimbo oh u? Seventy five cents? But it's weird because yeah, it's what it says. Seventy five cents is what it says when he's reading the checks back and checking everyone's autographs. But yes, when he's being bullied and hung upside down, it's one dollar. What a fail of continuity? Yeah, the show as we like to say, so, I hope someone got fired for that blend. Call us the Golden Era a fool's goal in here. I've got one more question, Yes, okay, who is the main beneficiary of Aunt Hortensor's will m and Landers gossip columnist? Oh, advice columnist and landers? Already? I've got one more question. You've got one more? Yeah? Sure? What's the sea captain's shop there that they visit? It's the I won't look at my clues. It's like captain's baton something bin baitan bargain bin but yea yeahstrophes. Yes, yeah, I coded ten total, including on the sign that is on the door that says come on and we're open. My next question is also a sea captain one. It is what is his nickname for Barton Lisa? What does he call them? Oh? Minnows, you knows? Well done? Yes, I was gonna say shrimps, and you'll find a question with the Davis. Look, it's a pretty obvious one. But what is Jimbo's real name Corky Corky. Yes, it's such a terrible name. Yeah, yeah, it's the perfect I've always thought that question. There what you just asked. It's like the perfect question Simpsons Trivia Night because that's a question that most people have probably heard before, but not everyone might remember. So it's not too hard, but it's challenging enough were gain to full some people. So it's like the perfect Simpsons Trivia Nite question. Thank you, Dandy. I actually do have one more trips you hit me, hit us, let's do it is a voice in a real word, I don't know is it? Is it a chromulent or in biggened word. It may be one of those things where, Yeah, because of its used on the Simpsons, people start actually using it. Chromulin is seeing a lot more and more. It has no actual meaning, but people just deploy it. Yeah, but a voicion, unfortunately, is not one of those ones that's called on. Even though Ken is very persuasive. Yeah, I would never I would never argue against Kent. He just seems like the kind of guy that you know, knows people that wouldn't be afraid to use them against you. Join Kent could hold himself on a five feel like he probably could get you in a headlock. Oh he does go to wrestle Homer when Marge is a carpenter, and he does hold his own that's right, I remember, now, yeah, from episode we haven't got to that one yet. I get the feeling he says he's a scrappy old time journal who's sold out. You know, he sort of came up, you know, in the in the rough and tumble days of old, old old newsrooms. But you know, somewhere all on the line became a silver fox, and you know, someone went scouting and said you look all right and sound all right, let's put you on TV. And he just touching. Yeah, yeah, of course. The four Figure Discount Network is brought to you by our incredible supporters. I'm Patreon. It was written by John spots Order and Bob Caschell and directed by Jim Ridon, guest star Phil Hartman's Trom mc clure obviously and Bob Newhart. As we discussed, there was no chalk gag, but the couch gag is the couch is a fax machine, which was mayby a bit nostalgic because that exists anymore where they still work fax machines, where they not work anymore. I can testify because my dad is adamant that everyone should still have a fax machine in their house and he still uses one. Yeah, that's amazing. I appreciate that. I appreciate the dedication to the to the nostalgia two. Yeah, just is just afraid of new things. I think it's like I think, because he goes it's the best way to communicate with the bank and it's like, I think the banks are only keeping there on your pal Like. It was perfect because, as we mentioned earlier, my grandmother who was deaf mute, it was actually the perfect way to communicate with her because you couldn't call on the phone, she couldn't hear the good facts, and then we can have a conversation with it. Oh wow, yeah, that is nice. I just had an idea for like a Pixar short facts is are you know they're being phased out and there are only two left and they start sending each other love letters via facts. That sounds like the exactly a kind of short the Pixar would make. Yeah, yeah, what would you call it? Thout? No, just the facts? The facts of life. Hey, there we go. See this is why they pay this man the big bucks but they meet nobody. If you're listening, Pixar, save me. That's actually a great concept, the facts of life. That's perfect. I would totally watch that. It'd be awesome. Yeah, all right, let's let's wrap this up and I'll get a cracking on the swim. So the episode kicks off with the family and at the law what is the law phone called? You guys write down the name. Do we cheat him how? And Wiseman is indeed correct. Yeah, that's a lovely old lawyer joke. Do we cheat them and how? Yeah? And they're there to receive the will of great aunt Hortense, who we have never heard of before. Now, whose side of the family do you reckon? Cheer is on? I'm assuming Homes because he's the one that's sort of references the whoo Who in his own devastated way. He mourns, Yes, I love them, mourn for woo Who. I think that's fantastic. One other thing, do we hear home woo Who as much as he as we used to? Or are we just sort of used to it as in the teen years that we're doing now or yeah, or whether there was sort of like a peak moment for Woohoo And then it's kind of like Dan's like, I'm not really doing that anymore, or it's not written in the script anymore. What he tends to do more now? And it's great because Ali's actually watching the episode, so he'd be able to discuss this. But do you feel like Ali he does more groaning now in the sense of just going like a really long extent of groan and a moan. Yeah, it's like he's more he's more of disdainful life and he used to find happiness and most things Homer. Now he's just seems to complain a lot more the character of Famer. Yeah, and that's why I love about this episode, not that Homer's in it a lot, but what's in it is your classic, you know, Golden Retriever Homer, where yeah he says something horrible, but like you could wake up dead tomorrow, but he's doing it with the best intentions. You know, He's not being vindictive or yeah, complaining or anything like that. And I think one of the biggest sins of the teens are a Homer that I really hate is the whole over exaggerated whispering gag. Yeah, actually point that out. Yeah, one thing that we are sick of hearing is fucking sidesho Mail because when he when he's in this episode, I've got I've got it my next later on, when he's at Crust his funeral, it's like, you're very really good to see side sho Mel speak of that often, so this felt like it felt unique and different. Of coursegol speaking at his funeral, it's a big deal. But now every episode Sideo Mail has a line it's like, we where did his fascination with sidho Mel developed. Yeah, it's an interesting part of the Simpsons in the teens era that they really relied on some of these B and C tier characters to just like jump to for a quick them sketch sort of thing where yeah, here's Sideshow Mel doing Vobos interjection, or here's Cletus for I have too many kids or meth joke, you know. And it's sort of things like that where it and it's probably you know, the trend of the era where it's a bit of that family guy, more non secretary sort of style of riding creeping in whereas, yeah, you can point to this one and say most, if not all, of everything is conducive to the script and like in support of it. Yeah, because by season seventeen, the hillbilly Jacob Cletus is just like, move on, wait till the one where Bart marries one of his kids, Jesus. Something else that I liked about Homer in this episode though, is when he's in his element, he's kind of a machine or he's kind of verbose and straightforward and intelligent. I mean, when he's ordering at I RS. Berger. He's kind of like, I know exactly what I want and I'm going to talk about a very sort of straightforward in the plays, this guy knows what he's on about. Did you get his little reading glasses out in that scene? I can't remember. Yea, the little half glasses. They are one of my favorite little costume designs of Homers. That's that one and Bed Homer. I just love Bed Homer. I was just about to say one of my favorite sign gag jokes of later late season twenties Simpsons is, Yeah, Homer's got his little half glasses. He's in bed and he's reading a book that says how to read a book in bed. I'm like, ah, that is an amazing background jokes. Yeah, so what you're will about modern Simpsons, but I reckon their sign writing jokes are on top form, and well sometimes they spend more time, it feels like, spend more time writing the jokes for those and they do the actual script. There was an ear there and that the last couple of years have been really solid. I thought of the Simpsons, but there was this there was an earra there where it felt like I'm watching an episode and these jokes could have been applied to any character. It's like they forgot how to write for the characters. They just wrote jokes and said, yeah, let's get Skinner to say it. It's not a Skinner joke. It doesn't matter, just have anyone say it. That's how it felt, absolutely like, yep, agree. I think it was Harry Sheer who came out and said once that. I think it was when we were interviewing him back when we first started this podcast in twenty fifteens, when he said I'm going to leave the show yea, and he was saying like there was a point where he said to one of the writers, whatever this Isn't this No, Flanders wouldn't say this now, like it doesn't matter, and he's like, once I realized that they didn't care that what the which characters were saying? What joke? It was like, why do I care? The only stipulation is that you spend one night you know hunted host. Wasn't that somewhat unusual? No? It just standard goes well, Luckily, there's no such thing as good Yes, there's no such thing as good night. Leap I ever heard cat when it tasted better than ours. I love the concept of a haunted house. I've never stayed in a house that's even feel somewhat haunted a little bit. What about you guys? No, I've never had that much money left to me in a well or had that props, But like, have you ever like been in a house where it's like this field? Actually I've stayed like a castle ish place in England months and at times I was like, this feels kind of spooky, but like it was fine, but like, what about you guy? Well, the house that I used to live in when I was when I was a teenager, the house that I grew up in, we sold and we moved up the road to a much bigger house and it was acid. It had like a do we say basement or seller in Australia only which people have them, so I wouldn't nay. We only stayed in this house for five years before the bank took it. But um, I was like maybe ten years later watching the Blair Witch Project and I realized, holy shit, that's the basement from my hell. And I never, I very very rarely went down there. Yeah, so I don't know if always haunted, but it was kind of like, if bad shit's going to happen anywhere in the neighborhood of her Hill, Geelong, it's going to be in this particular spot. So home alone. Home alone did that for me. With them, it was it the fire. Yeah, yeah, but I've always liked the idea of having an attic. I've never had an attict, but I just think, like you see addicts, and they just seemed like some people just use it as storage. But it's like you can live in an attic. It look whenever you see someone living in an attic, the room always looks cool, like, um, pretty sure. Billy in Gremlins, he's living in the attic is kind of room where it was just like an upstairs. It kind of looks like the attic because the roof's on a slant. You know, it does feel that way. You're right. Yeah, it's like it's not meant to be a room but has been turned into a room. And yeah, now it's going its own distinct personality as a result. Let we get the cool beat and switch here where it's actually you know that the best night's sleep they've had, and the water tastes better than their water. It's so funny. Just such a good mister act. Apparently Bill and Josh came up with that one. That was their idea. Yeah, and then they he gives him all the hundred dollars. Now, mister Davis, this is a quote is all the time. I couldn't quite remember where it came from. The Oh my, this is this guy? Yeah, because George George, Yeah, he says it all the time as well. But I always thought you took it from George to Kay, But you took it from this guy. It was something in the Simpsons, only it wasn't Georgia said it was something. Yeah. Do we know which lawyer there's actually is? Is he dual? Is he cheat him? Is he how? I don't know he is. I think he probably cheat him. He does cheat them, Yeah, he doesn't really, it doesn't really cheat him. He just sort of omits information and not even by his own fault. He just I just kept talking. Well after you left the room. This is the thing, right, if you were with a partner at the time, right, and she decides to break up with you after you leave, and then you see her at having dinner with someone else, and you're like, what's going on? You're like she's like, Oh I broke up with you, you just already left the room. That's cheating. That's cheating you. I do that sometimes, did this happen to you? Because but they're all coming up with ideas of things they can spend their money on. I do like Bart's idea, one hundred dollars for a hundred tycos so that's perfect. And I love coming up when we see a comic book guy with his wheelbarrow full of tacos, I'm like, that looks like a hell of a good time. Never related to comic book guy more, I know, yeah, no it is. It was just the idea of marathons there. I feel like they're lost now we've been shows, But the idea of just sitting down having a marathon of something, I just I just love a walk on. What are some of your favorite marathons that you guys have been a part of. I went and saw them when I was younger. They did the remasks of the Star Wars trilogy. They played them all back to back to back, and that was my first proper movie marathon at the cinema and I just have funded memories of that one. Oh, I did the Grindhouse, The Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rode Rigas, what are they? Death Proof? And Planet Tower Up. Yeah, but those just kind of back to back. I did the Kill Bells as well. The Simpsons. The Simpsons marathons of the nineties were the best ones. Like when there was a Simpons marathon, it was like, you're in here, honestly, well, hell do you all you're early thirties, thirty seven thirty seven? Yes, his best same ages me. Like in the nineties when there was a Simpsons marathon, it was just the greatest thing of all. And like you're always excited for when the Olympics were because it meant was just gonna be twenty four hours Simpsons on Fox age. Yeah, but yeah, nine to twelve on Saturdays and Sundays just lined up perfectly with all the hangovers I was having and Super Simpsons weekends. They were They are some of the best memories. Of course, what about you, I'm sure you had plenty of marathons. Well, these are movies that I wish I liked more. But I took a day and just did all the parts of the Caribbean movies back to back. Wow, that's a lot of Johnny Depp. How many us that now it's five now and I don't know. I mean everyone goes oh, I love parts of the Caribbean. The first one in Curson, I don't think it's all that good. I like Johnny Depp in it, and I like I like parts of it, but it goes on like maybe half an hour too long. It's a little sort of muddled, and no, I think they realized what they had in mister Depp, and they just sort of cut to Johnny, cut to Johnny. And I think the next two are a bit better, but they they're just all a little too overstuffed. It's like you've got a really nice meal. I was like, now I'm gonna put some Burney's sewers and type of That's like you're putting sauce up the sauce. I remember, remember Jeffrey Rush being a good bag guy, though he was and maybe so in real life, then we have I really enjoyed March here too. So when Lisa says she's going to put him money into public broadcasting, public broadcasting, what if you kids throwing your money away like that? Lovely contrast with Barton Lisa's way they're spending their money there. Yes, Yeah, I'm definitely like when I was a kid, I'm definitely Barton when I'm an adult. No, I like the idea of wanting to give my money to broadcasting, but I'd want to spend it on tacos. I'd end up spending on tycos. I consider probably broadcasting, but spend it on Tarcos. Well, speaking of targos, I mean, you know, use that little girl from the the old El Paso. Why don't we do both have a bit of half. Then they go into the bank and Lisa's a bit put off by the eight mass, you know, professional and an eight mass is still a professional. And the guy just the guy's obviously just being in this job forever. He's just he's beaten down. I'm sure you'll find it's more exciting than the Weekend with Batman just throwing out the the usual shit. And Lisa says that she decided to go with a fifty saber account where she gets two point three percent annual interest instead of the two point two five And then bart went for the customized checks. Then what's on the customized checks? Elliott the Hendenburg, Yes, going down, that's the humanity. Yes, and he writes Lisa the check four was it one cent and no sense? Yeah, that is a detail that I spotted in all the other checks that he wrote, like for Upper it was like, yeah, twenty five cents and no sense. Yeah, I'd like the way to hear that has planted the idea of the idea of a signature as well, Like you don't think when he's writing this and that's going to be the basis that's set up the story, but it's what it is. Yeah. Also, having a checkbook another thing that my dad sticks up for. Yes, I know, I just love checkoo. I was a kid the Dominoes or the the Dolomites. Yeah, Dolomites, that's the Dolomites. Yeah, man, did you have a checkbook? Especially for pizza? Our American friends, I believe, are still quite into checks they I mean, yeah, here in the technologically advanced landown under, we're like fos players. You know. I put it into my account, but yeah, it's like we got a check in the meal. I've never received money or paid money via check. I just never have. What about you, guys? Always has been direct deposit into a bank. Of 're getting paid by an employer or something, or someone's just giving me cash. Yeah, when when I've had to hit up Margaret Mary for for a loan, she'll write out a check. Okay, nice one and what is it like? Twenty dollars and no sense? But yeah, gives you better play this back, Margaret Mary Davis. He gives Mealhouse the million dollars postdated for the year ten thousand, gives Jimbo the one dollar, and then Crusty assigning Sidnachres outside his door. But he's got to be on his way because they're naming a new sandwich after him at his restaurant. A Mealhouse says, don't worry. You can get a signature. I've got it on my stomach. You can just copy. But the thing is, though you had done that, it would be a backwards signature, right, yeah, it wouldn't worry silly Mealhouse. But he says, don't worry, I've got an idea. Who explains the idea for the twenty five cents? What I love the most about this whole gag is that Crusty wanted that twenty five cents. He was doing his laundry, found a random check in his back pocket and was like a stamp. Let's do it. And then Millhouse shows off his belly to the girls. Then Bart's going through all these checks that he received him get Jimbo's real name being revealed here at Corky, which you know when you're a kid in the nineties, right, Hearing things like that, it felt like you were finding something fresh, And I was like, oh, do you must real names? Corky. It felt like a big deal, didn't it? Silly shit like that Easter egg. Oh I'm sorry, I can't avoide information about that customer's secret illegal account. Oh crap. I shouldn't have said it was a customer. Oh crap. I shouldn't have said it was a secret. Oh crap. I certainly shouldn't have said it was illegal. Ah, it's too hot today. This episode has three one time characters that I absolutely adore. We talked about the lawyer before this guy, but also yeah, within this scene, the bank teller that Bart was talking to. Some people would say you're a hero kid, not me. However, I love Crosting and also like he's the one who's the most responsible for this all blowing up. He could have ignored the kid's check. He just yes, it's such a big fan of Crusty. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But what I also love the fact that, you know, Bosh has been standing there afternoon. No one's even bother to talk to him. He's just waiting, waiting patiently. Yeah. It took the form in it's for this whole scandal to get refueled. Yeah, he was still waiting in the bank three hours. Yeah. And I love that Krusty. He's just micro cookie popcorn on the stove like two in the afternoon. Do we know who voiced that that bank teller because it's great line deliver It's not me, however, I love Crusty. It sounds it's it sounds like Harry Shearer delivery, but it's not. I don't think it is Harry, Harry or a Hanker. Yeah that sounds about right. Yeah yeah, was it a Harry Hanker? Dan, It's like yeah, yeah, I don't know. It might be Yardly, could be Yardly, could be, could be. But um, has yard Live a voice anybody besides herself? Um? Yeah, she's voiced Lisa, and she's voiced herself in a season thirty something episode where because she used to have a podcast, small town Dicks. So she's on an episode about podcasting as herself. I don't know. She might have been one of the jockey elves in that weird ass episode. Guy hates that one. I'm not a fan. Only think is our man. Jim Cummings was the voice of Dunk and the Horse in that episode. Is that right? Wow? Yeah, he's like acclaimed Disney legend icon voice artist. Can you do a horse? Not much? Exactly right? That? Yeah? So when we come back for the commercial with the news report, I really appreciate the sad profile photo of Crusty just behind Barth and sad. I have to think they got that from like Crusty gets busted and just brought it forward. But um yeah, let me get the avosion, which is when I was a kid, I didn't get that. It wasn't funny to me. I wasn't a dit I'm like, this is fucking great. That's so funny. And the photo the photo courtesy of Homer, I never saw that. I always missed it that the photo of Barth, you know, but you know his career has been ruined by this little boy Bart celebrating with photo courtesy of Oh I saw how many times have I watched this thing? God damn, he've never seen that. No, actually there's another thing. I never saw her until today. But we'll get to that when we do. Yes, his photo courtesy, and I'm like, that's awesome, Yeah, amazing, And Lisa says, no, don't worry, don't beat yourself up. It's not your fault. And now we're at the at the r RS. And did you see the two different courts, food court and what's the other one, probate probates. Yes, Rusty's pleading. This is the acting here. It's a sacred who's joking? I'm not just saying. It's also crazy to me, but I love that his first instinct is to sort of go to it, garner garnish my clary. Oh, I can't gotta jail. I got a swiky lifestyle. I'm used for the best, Crusty, this is America. We don't send our celebrities to jail. We're just going to garnish your salary. Jarnish my salary, please, Crusty, no jokes, y eye, Oh, I don't know what you're saying. It all sounds so crazy to me. That simply means we'll be taking part of your salary until your jet is repaid, say seventy five percent for forty years. But I don't planning to live that long. I'm gonna make an Now it's time for the herschel Kostovki's cram related entertainment show. Because they've taken away all the all of the money. I love that. In the Simpsons World, track suit equals poor, they've taking Krusty clothes as well as well. You know, he's just in his track soup and they're all the cutbacks and cut things like was it like why did they cut back over? They cut back side jaw that was one of them actually, to be fair, because I when I was eighteen nineteen, I used to work as a children's party clown. And yeah, once I ra are you kidding? No, not at all. Excuse wow, that's going to be some stories there. Well I don't want children now, and but no, my clown name was Cheesy the clown um. And yeah, I just used to do kids parties. It was a bit of fun for a weekend. But yeah, it got a bit too overwhelming, so I stopped doing it after two years. But um, yeah, good money in party clown um it was a good rate, but like only like when or at the jobs, but and yeah sometimes you only get like four or eight hours a weekend. So yeah it was a good rate, but like you wouldn't get enough time and also like two hours yet entertaining two to six year olds. Yeah, how was Um? How was clown college? Nothing like they made it out in the Simpsons. It was a weekend at some dude's house, legitately had to go to some sort of college that's crazy sort of working with kids license and then just practice, Like yeah, I got taught how to be a magician in a day, in an afternoon in a backyard at Castle Hill, Like it was. Yeah, not as glamorous as the clown college as you see on television. But yeah after all that, yeah they made me give back the uniform, the magic briefcase with all my magic tricks and the big shoes as well. Um yeah that sucks bad. That's that's that's fucking really that's awesome though. I mean, I just love the idea of being a clown, like it just it sounds like gonna be fun. But then you think, like you said, the idea of dealing with kids all day, Okay, kids lived with me there, and yeah, I'll tell you what one of the weird unexpected benefits was, because they said one of the things with working with the company is you had to go to and from gigs in full clown makeup regalia and everything. Like they wanted you representing the brand and promoting it at every given opportunity. And part of that clown like a clown car deck down. They'd asked me that, and it's like, oh, what have you got, you know, mini, And I'm like, it's a Toyota Viana like and they said, yeah, you'd have to like park around the corner from houses, just so like you didn't destroy the illusion of like, yeah, just turning up in an old white granny Toyota. You know. May I just say, I was really hoping you would use the term clown regalia and you didn't let me down. Thanks man, you're tork. I see GUIDs in hisstics have laughed. I'm like, he said something that's tick. I'm just picturing it, you know, like, and it happened to me. Article is like I spent a weekend this guy's house and now I'm a clown. That's awesome. I'm a qualified clown. Do you like a clown license or something like that. You have to renew that or you're just a clown forever. Now once I was always will be. I've got the branding on my ass and everything. I've radio show logo tedded on my ass. Anyway, getting back to the Simpsons, I'm sorry. Just to finish off my point, the one unintended benefit of yeah, going to and from parties in full clown regalia was that it was actually made driving through Sydney City a lot easier. Like people are a lot willing to let you emerge in front of them if you're in full clown makeup, Like you get a little polite home because like, hey can I come in and they're like oh yeah, but yeah they'd look over ready to be a piste off Sydney driver and like, oh my it's a clown. Yeah of course you can go in front of me. Yeah, what else do you want? I didn't know we could do that. You should pull some pennywise shit on him. I have four tex Burgers, one I R S which withhold the letters, three dependent size sodas, and a ficuccino. Hello schedule be you should receive your Burgers in sixty eight weeks, schedule be declined fifty three takeaway, Hey Marge, what were you gambling lunches last year? Seven hundred dollars? Then clust He arrives at home and we get the gag he after that mentioned in Your Day commentary seems to be something that I remember. I didn't really listen to the commentary for this one, but on the bus that says you should be watching Mad About You Sunday's at APM, which was airing at the same time as this episode. Oh that wouldn't have been a Fox show anything, would it. No, it was NBC, as she says, something NBC like NBC Sunday Nights laughs, or something watch Mad About You. It's kind of like their way of just taking the piss because they said it driven past so fast you never would have seen it, like only they knew it was there. But now with freeze frame, we can actually pause it and see it. Yeah, gentleman, I know everybody wants to know this, So here we go. Where FIKA is a US federal payroll tax stands for the Federal Insurance Contributions ZACC and is deducted from your paycheck. Hey, there we go learn it and now you know the rest of the story. But Krusty says, all my memories in my mansion, I have to take everything else away, but good all my memories. Walks in and they're auctioning off all of his ship. And this would be so tragic, like taking just repossessing your stuffs one thing, but seeing people just buying it for nothing, it's like no, um, But yeah, so they're action off the suitcase. I love the way the term the stunning piece of Cristiana, and I was like, I just love the toe Crostiana. I'm like, it's like, you know, piece of history of Krusty, but sales of forty cents. Then we get the thirty two cartons of porn. Now this scene was cut out of freed air television. I was going to ask, yeah, yeah, I remember the first time we got when we first got foxtail, they played the Super Simpsons weekends, and like they would never edit anything out on Foxtail, but Free to Air TV would edit it out. So when this first end, I was like, it was like seeing many a new relative. I was like, what is this scene. I've never seen this scene before, but yes, a Jasper not bringing that enough money for the pawn that was never on TV. I remember that, and let me get mob with the bed night mo. I love his delivery up half a buck like it doesn't even let it go to the bidding. That's like just that's better than what we've been getting all day. Just whatever sold. Yeah. Now the term I'm gonna roller gay that's always been lost to me. That's obviously a reference to something. Is that like someone's plane? What is it? It is the the Anoli Gay is m Ellie j Well? I correct, it's the Is it the plane that dropped the dropped in the stomic bomb? Oh? I do not know as much about planes as I do clouding, So I'm a bit lost in this. I'm pretty sure the anoli Ga dropped the bomb on dropped the bomb on here Achima? Okay, so yeah, so Crusty's playing is I'm un a roller game? This is another joke that was lost to me as a kid writing the song Invidial, a song that he robbed years before. It wasn't lost on me. My dad was pumping in Dean Martin into the into the speakers at home. I was very familiar with how the moon, like I like your dad. I gotta say, yeah, he's he's like a class act between them. He's your guy's not your dad. Seeing the resemblance, let me let me take this heat off. Oh my god, I guess stand that makes you and the fax machine and the Dino. Yeah, i'd say mister O'Neill is a classy guy. But everyone's there leaving and whe crosses at the front, just with a cigarette in his hand. He just looks all broken down and just just sad. But I apologizes, but crusty. He says he can punch me in the face. But even he knows, as I said earlier, like he knows it's not he's not the kid's fault, it's his fault, and so he can't even just says, just go away. I did love the lines that you're discussing earlier, guy, like I have to stand in the line with nobodies to buy groceries from a failure. That's just good writing. And I'm like, god, damn, I just working a supermarket. Yes you were. Yeah, it's an interesting point in this episode that they bring up later when they convince Rory B. Bellows to come back. But yeah, grossies like resentment, resentment for smart people, he teach us in Ferraris. But then the and there's a lot, a lot of truth to this, and you can send this to the celebrity minds. I'll be watching Succession and let's say, focused on being rich, right, but just the what good respect without the muladder back it up? And I'm like, that's such a rich person mentality is if I find a rich person, I'll ask him, yes exactly. Everyone now overhears the plane like, what's going on out side? And Crush, he's just making a scene. Fine, he's playing around and interrupts Charmers coming home on a date with Agnes, And I'm like, what do you want Charmers? Well, first of all, wouldn't she because Charmers, I mean, he's older than Skinner, but he's not Agnes older, so he's Yeah, but neither was Comic Book Guy. And it wasn't that a lovely tale? Jesus, I'm not I'm not being sarcastic. I genuinely loved that episode. I enjoyed it, but for some reason, it sort of ruined the Comic Book Guy character for me going forward. Okay, it's just like some characters. I don't need to know the ins and outs of the ins and outs of comic book guy and Agnes. Yeah, um, elliot, good luck for the upcoming side show male focused episode. It should be a lot of fun for you. Then sh season is that? I can skip it? Uh? Season nineteen it's cold all about Lisa, but he like plays a big part in it. Hiva h Vishnu. Where does that noise? Gun? I must say I have had a lovely evening, agness. Don't suppose I could come in for a couple say more? Mother, Superintendent Chalmers ski her, I wouldn't give or something to interrupt this awkward moment nicely who crusty? Yeah, even with all his problems, he's still willing to do something unbelievably dangerous just to entertain his fans. Oh that's my crusty. I got a feeling he'll be all right. Oh my god, crusty shoes, Okay, foul shows over, nothing to see here shows? Oh my god, a horrible plane crash. Hey, everybody, get a lot of this flaming wreckage. Come on, ride around, ride around, nut be shy, right around, ladies and gentlemen, crushing the clown it's dead. I love just the direction of the shoes falling. It's almost like a rim shot at the end of a joke, which is for crusting and then um, it's a great hook going into a commercial break beyond me one hundred percent. And you can use that image as well in the commercials leading up to it. And I can't remember quite well, but I'm sure they did. If they didn't, they made them a big mistake. If they did not. Yeah, but now at the funeral and home is all sad and say, oh, used to hang up all the good guys in heaven wish I were dead, and we get good old Phil Hartman as Troy McClure. And you may know here from previous Shobi's funerals such as, what mister Davis, did you write these downs? I've always remembered sham Howard. Today we mourn a stooge, because I've always remembered Andre the Giant. We hardly knew you, man. It's just whose voice is the most fun to imperson out in the Simpsons. It's gonna be either comic book gu or Troy mclue or your reckon Oh yes, but still try McClure or ahead of that by a good mile, Like you just feel so distinguished. Hi, I'm Troy McClure. It all depends on the mood you're in as well. I mean, if you want to be if you want to be sarcastic, then of course you do kind gay, but you know, if you if you just want to sort of ramp up your own sleeves or make fun of you know, I know this is a cheesy line, but if I put a little harp and sauce on, it's it's gonna it's gonna rule, you know, whether you're doing Troy mclue or Lionel Hearts, I just don't. Yeah, it's it's I know it's not a Troy mclue line, but it's like, well, why don't I drink out of a toilet? He'll be back. I always found like Homer's like one of the hardest characters to impersonate. It's a really difficult voice. Yeah I can't. Yeah, because even try and Linel you can. You can get the general tone and mood of it, like Homer at best, you can quote. It's a very hard voice to weamitate and even Homer. Listen, you watch new episodes now, and I feel only Yardley and Dan have really been able to keep their voice up to the level which you would expect. Nady's still kind of there, but Harry's kind of lost it. Have you noticed that really? Oh there's a clip going round today. Yeah, mister Burns and he's doing a big speech and like it's another problem that Neil Simpsons has is they don't put a lot of work into background music and like the soundtrack anymore. And yeah, it's meant to be this rousing speech, but it's got nothing behind it. And also with Harry's really phoned in performance, I can say it's phoned in because it is. He's in London and he literally phones in his performance. But yeah, it was yeah, really bafflingly disappointing. Yeah, yeah, you're watching, you think this has got to be fake. This can't be Harry. Yeah, I've noticed with Millhouse as well. Mealhouse does not sound like Mealhouse at all anymore. We are gathered to mind the passing of herschel Schmichael Krestovski, but loved entertainer and dear friend. Hello, I'm Dry McClure. You might remember me from such show business funerals as Andre the Giant we hardly knew ye and shampowered today Marna Stooge now Crusty's closest friend and sidekick, Sideshow Mel I'll miss you, Crusty I and all the other side shows except side Joe Bob Bart in the midst of our solow we can take comfort in the fact that your elevated blood alcohol level probably helped you burn up quicker. Since you left us no earthly remains, it is my said duty to unveil this simple memorial. It was I say, on the on the on the tombstone, see you real soon, kids. Another joke along with the Homer speech to Bart later, which is just really dark, like yeah, so inappropriate, but I love it, this big smiling face see real soon. And then we get Bob Hard Bob Newhart sorry, who was just killing time? Yeah, pushes him up there and yeah, so here is the other bit that I never noticed before until today's viewing. So when Bob knew Hard, you know, don't worry. I'll handle this. Bob knew Hard, everybody and try mclewis clapping and stepping away. Once Troy claps and steps away, we see Black Quimby. There was yeah, there was a coloring error and yeah, oh my gosh, right there is black Quimby. I don't have to freeze frame that and put that up on on the page. Yeah, yeah, Bart's really really sad. Now the news report here the day the local died and had the vote between the stamps. His heartwarming smile or he's burning down two to one smiling one good stuff. Then we are He's really sad in his room, just surrounded by krusty merchandise. You know, Crusty is his life and he's brought it down. He can't believe it. He's so guilty, he feels so bad, and Herbert tries to comfort him and just yeah, this is the shot of Bart. There's no dialogue, just but looking back at him with that confused face of what did I is here? It's one of my favorite screen caps ever, So perfect because as he said home, it was trying to help. He wasn't being an idiot here. He thought what he's saying was going to help. But through this moment kind of the eye like stories moment. But then he's walking down the street and he sees Crusty drive past, and I freeze framed this a couple of times, and I'm like, surely there's going to be a gag on the back of that boat somewhere, but there wasn't. It was a boat the other truck, but there was nothing there. Usually they sort of would sneak something in there, but they didn't hear their Marge says that, no, you didn't see him, you know, in the street in your mind, you know, definitely, which you can see from Marge's perspective, like no, he's dead or in their minds he's dead. He burned in a plane. It's like, you know, you want to see him, that's why you're seeing him there. And who was the person Lyndon Johnson, old old president who held the dog up by the ears For some reason, did they reference it in that bunch of good dog footage that they showed Sandah's little helper mister Burns when he's like trying to ah. Yeah, they haven't showed like a quick footage of yeah, Lyndon Johnson just holding a dog up by the ears. And he would do that like it was the equivalent of like people bring their baby for a politician to kill, they'd bring their dogs. So Linda Johnson could hold them up by the ears. It was really weird. He claimed it didn't hurt him. Yeah, but surely it does, right about it. Yeah, one thing I just noticed by the way that Ali Jnil this be lost on gob You're wearing an FTR shirt. Yeah, sure, top guys. Yeah, and top guys. It's a wrestling tag team, mister Davis. Also, yeah, I got a bit of acclaimed merch from when I saw a w earlier in the year he went to America of course. Yeah. Yeah, I was at the the scissor finger, the big foam scissor finger. That's awesome. Yeah, we should a wrestling podcast, one hundred percent, man, sign me up. I'd so down for that. We're now at Hibbot's clinic. I've always thought Hibott worked at the hospital. Have we ever seen this little family clinic before? Not the best of my recollection, because it's like Hibott's family practice. And I'm like, wasn't he always a winking in the hospital? I think so. Yeah. But anyway, when I'm just like, why is Bart just there? He's just hanging out in the waiting room. You ever hear someone who's getting ceasick? He can't violate the privilege but then he says, much like Jasper's got five seconds to live, and we get missus click, Missus clicks. She's like Agnes, but even more of a bitch. She's the one that says genuinely arousing as well. Yeah, yeah, Bart's working for it. We have to revisit the episode. Bart's going to make some extra pocket money at her house and yeah, she's watching watching her story. Yes, that's right. But then see's Crusty just randomly diving for lobster. And but it's just it's very convenient that Bart just happens to be in the same place as like he's at the doctor clinic and he's just gazing at the ocean. Yeah, that visual worries on the rock. Is that like a shout out for the Little Mermaid when she's on the rock? Maybe? I don't know, it's sort of That's when I saw it, was like, that looks a Little mermaidsh to me. And I'm not a huge Little Mermaid fan, don't get me wrong. It's like, look in the feeling, I've seen that before and maybe in a Disney can't do it. I actually recently watched the Hampton's episode of Seinfeld and when I was watching this moment, I'm like, wait, is Krusty actually stealing from a lobster trap here? I think he is, because I'm like, he did not set him this set himself, surely not so. I remember when I was a kid, though, I always thought that was a treasure chest, And I'm like, what was there a lobster in a treasure chest? But Lisa says, you know, you have to learn to deal with your mental problems, because she says, you know, you think she's gonna be helping him, but she's not. Then we're at the Sea Captain's baton bargain bin, and then he's on the phone to Ishmael and then he confuses they hold a balloon up. Of course, we at a handsome Pete another one time character does he never appears again. Hands Pete um in the crowd scene where Lisa's got the Domino hair. Yes, that's there in the corner. I think a single shot of handsome Peters more than enough in all, yes, yeah, but yees. So then they see the check don't don't um, don't don't accept checks from these buccaneers or something like that. Rory Bean bellows about thirteen dollars seventy something I think it was, and they they throw a quarter in for Pete. He's gonna be dancing for hours. Then they find Crusty. He tries to bow, but unfortunately he's still tied to the to the pr he just comes clean and explains how his plan or came to fruition, And I'm just like, they wanted to come back. But I'm like, he seems happy, yeah, well not happy like Crusty happy, but like seems content with life now. He doesn't need the big life. He seems like he's come to terms with where he is. He's like, I don't need anyone bothering him now. I'm happy with the peacefulness of the of the sea. But then we get another scene that was censored on TV, the incessant beeping of the Global Positioning system. Christ He's tired of having phonies around pretending to be his friends. I'm sure I'll find plenty of people who like him for who he is. Could happen down needs friends, the incerts and people. The Global positioning system is all the companionship I need. Tell me where you are now, you bastard. That line there so he used to cut to him throw it in the water, and then just cut back to him talking again. You didn't see him saying the bastard bit that was always sensed that TV as well. Oh well, that's good because now thanks to Channel ten, we've grown up or well adjusted and proper So props the Tens for looking out for the delicate sensibilities of young Simpsons views back in the nantes. You know, one of the strangest edits I've always found was, and we discussed it when we did a review a star's burns when udor Udor or whatever name is, it's the burp, right. If you watched that episode on Freedom Air TV, they muted her burp. You saw their hair moving, but you couldn't hear her burp. But if you watched on Foxtail, the burp was there. It was the strangest thing weird that ruins the gag. Yeah, it was. It was so weird. But they tried to convince him to come back by saying, what about that great feeling knowing that you're better than regular people? And then but as the finishing line of how about you know you're a literate TV clown who's more respected than scientists, doctors and educators in this country all put together, and that's what sells him. He's like, you know what, Yeah, why should be hogging all their or the limelight or the intention. So he sumes back and the paint washes off because of course that ain't makeup yea, And the boat blows up and he's got coming. He's coming for ensuring, so it's all going to be happy. Yeah, just a great ending. Probably not an actual solution to his problems. No, no, you know, we'll take it as I'm just like, would Crusty have been happier being Rory by Bellows? Probably not as happy as what he has been crust because if he's gonna have the krusty lifestyle again, he's gonna want to be Crusty. Elliot J will testify to this. A clown's got a clown. I do like that. Krusty always had his backup planners in his back pocket as well. That's what I was wondering on this watch. Was this always his plan like to some degree, or did he just have it there as just in case, Like I don't know if he truly ever thought he'd forever be worried b Bellows? What do we learn, Balmer, what'd you learn from the episode, mister Davis that, despite Bart's claims to the contrary, third nipples are never superfluous? Is he anything from this episode? So, Neil, A basic reverse psychology can help and entertainer come back to the industry A certainly? Can? I learned that you never pay more than twelve cents for pornography? All right, mister O'Neill, Guy Davis, He unfortunately had to leave Guy his planet needed him. So it's just you and I here now, But we're here to talk about just you in general and your fandom of being a Simpsons a Simpsons watching and Simpsons you are. So you've been doing Simpson's podcast as well Simpsons Index for many, many, many minutes, many years. You've reviewed essentially every episode of the Simpsons. Where'd your love at the Simpsons start? Though? Because you know, how are we remember when you first saw the Simpsons? Because for me, I first saw them when I was at the video Wheezy in Korea and I saw the video taps on the shof and I was like, that looks cool. But can you remember the first time you really remember seeing the Simpsons? The first memory I have of being aware of them. Was in the car on the way home from like after schoolcare or something. Mum was like, everyone at work is talking about this new show, The Simpsons, and I think we should watch it tonight, and your mum suggested it. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah, what a cool mum. My mum was like, you are never watching that show again. She let me watch it, but I think I was watching with her realizing I was watching The Simpsons. And then once I did what I did, which I won't say again, grabbed the knife from the draw copy magie from Triosa Horror, and she was like, well, it's a good decision, good parenting. She was like, not watching that show ever again. But your mom actually endorsed it, that's awesome. Yeah. When I was twelve or something and my dad like bust out of his bedroom laughing his ass off, is like switched to SPS right now. There is this cartoon with this talking Pooh when we've got to watch it, and yeah, well I was gonna say, I don't think The Simpsons was on SPS. But South Park Yeah yeah, Mom introduced me to Simpson started introduced me to south Park. Yeah, that's cool, that's that sounds about right that that story checks out. Yeah, but yeah, and if I remember correctly, I think the episode we watched was but the Genius, And yeah, it was just all on from there because like, yeah, that Simpsons kind of hit the ground running with syndication in this country, because wasn't it on for like a couple of years and in the States before it aired over here? Ye, so well started eighty nine over there. I believe it started maybe ninety one here, early early ninety one, I think, my Nan, godless, she's gone now. Marlene. She still had the TV guide at her house when the Simpsons she kept because I had something to the Muppets in it, right, because I was a big Muppets fan. So she had this TV guide to her house. But it was the first time the Simpsons ever premiered on Channel ten in that TV guide and I'm like, man, that's like what a what a collectible. And she actually used to tape the Muppets for me, my Nan as well. She used to go to work at a shoe factory, but they used to do reruns with the Muppets. Sorry, not Simpson, the Muppets, like six AM one Channel ten before like all the other shows would start, so she would record those for me before she went to work, but she of course leave the ads. In used to go back and rewatch these these Muppet tapes and one time I was watching it and I was like, new show debuting next week, It's The Simpsons. And I was like, fuck, this is like the original promo. You know how cool is that? That's amazing. I do have a big box of old for a chausers that I've been really yeah, that I've been meaning to go through and digitize because like I was obsessed with taping the Simpsons. Do please do that because I lost all mine in a flood. I've managed to save one of them, and it was from when they had you remember the Simpsons fan fest in two thousand. No, I was on Fox Style. Did you have Fox Style as a kid. Yeah? Yeah, so in when when the Olympics were on in Sydney in two thousand, they had just twenty four hour Simpsons marathons. It's from that, yeah, And it's got a bit of luck Channel ten stuff at the end of it as well. But all the rest of them got ruined in a flood. It breaks my heart because I'm just like so many memories of these tapes got me through my childhood. Man, You're like, they're the best friend. No, Unfortunately, like I don't have all of my old Simpsons vhss that I'd used to take because Yeah, I distinctly remember when season five started airing new episodes that, oh, we're getting new Simpsons. That was the vibe it always. I don't know, I might be wrong, but it felt like the four first four seasons were just the five nights a week syndication and seasons, and then season five was the first one where I was like, oh, where they were making new Simpsons and airing new Simpsons. And that's when, Yeah, as a kid, I became obsessed with taping these things and yeah, making sure I got them the night that they aired and watching them again that night, And yeah, I was obsessed with the show as a kid, like in that way. Yeah, my first recollection of like a new Simpsons airing would have been I think it was the first one I'd taped. Was definitely the three D Trius of Horror. But for some reason, I remember us being super pumped for who shot Mister Burns and my sister Stacy and I sitting there in my parents' bedroom. That's where the second TV was in the house, my parents' bedroom, sitting there with the little notepads, trying to guess who we think it was. And I'll never forget going out into the land room and Dad was sitting there watching the news or whatever, watching his shows on the big TV in the land room, and he's like, what do you guys doing And I said, oh, we're trying to wake out who shot mister Burns. And he goes as to sit on the radios the baby did it? And I was like, no, yeah, but apparently like this chick sport at the radio, Dad's like he could tell that he'd ruined it for us. And I was just like, oh, why did you say, you guys as if the baby did it. I was just joking. I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, that makes sense. Yeah the baby did do it. But it was so ridiculous, like he had a good cover. But I remember watching um the when its part two air, which was the start of season seven, so and the choice of horror three D was in season seven, but a little bit later on, and I think it's episode six or something, so I think, like the who shop mister Burns Part two was the first one that the first new episode that I watched because I wasn't there to watch it till I was like six or seven. The show yeah, yea, but yeah, but yeah, what great memories it is though, right, absolute six o'clock Channel ten, like you just you couldn't beat it, no, And I remember, yeah that first my first new episode would have been Home as Barbershop Quartet, the first episode season five, and like I was obsessed with that episode, being a big music fan from a young age as well. Yeah, that episode really did and still does resonate with me. That's just yeah, an all timer in my books. Yeah, yeah, it is just great memories just watching And it's one thing that kids now sort of won't be able to capture is just so much everything's on demand now, so it's just like flick flick, flick, flick, flick flick. But you know, six o'clock every night, every kid at school was in front of their TV watching The Simpsons. At the same time, you can talk about the episode the next day at school, and it's just it was a different vibe, different sort of just a whole different sort of scenario back then, wasn't it compared to have with you TV now. Yeah, absolutely, and going back to the who Shop Mister Burns thing. Yeah, unfortunately it had already aired in the US, so we could find out who did it, but but yeah, it was still those twenty four hours when we got to speculate. We're pretty magical. I remember I was convinced by my brother's theory actually that Sanda's little helper did it, and they even animated a version of that, as it turns out as well, so he was kind of half right partial credit. It is pretty incredible when you look at them, there's that image. It always goes rand of like the Las Vegas betting odds. I've seen that. Yeah, how unbelievable. It's hard to describe to people now just how big The Simpsons was at that time, you know, and how much just it was just it consumed our lives as kids in the nineties, wasn't It was just it was essentially like and having an extra friend in the house. Yeah. Well, especially Channel ten just doing the brilliant move of putting it on every day at six o'clock while the other stations were airing the news. That was just such a good move. And you know, on the flip side, being so frustrated in the summer months. Then for whatever fucking reason, they decided, oh, we're taking Simpsons way and putting on the Brady Bunch. It's like, no, I was raising a Brady much, so, like I didn't mind so much, but like I didn't mind that the Simpsons weren't on there, I was like, why is the Simpsons not on? I liked the Brady Munch, but I want the Simpsons. Give me the Simpsons. So weird though that they just would a syndicated a twenty year old sitcom At that point, I dream a Genie Brady Bunch, which remember all those ones I've always getting reput on. Yeah, used to put Mash on as well at like five thirty or five o'clock, and I was like then the old person show. But now I love Mash. I'm like, what you're doing it? But there's something there's something comforting about The Simpsons. Wasn't there as growing up in the nineties where you didn't even necessarily have to be watching it, but just having it on in the room just felt like you were with somebody. As silly as that sounds, it felt like you were with a friend. No, it's like, because I'd watched the episode so many times, it almost became like what I do with podcasts now, where I'll chuck it on and it'll be on while i'm you know, doing housework or whatever, art staff for creating or whatever, and yeah, it's just there as background noise. But yeah, I'm tuning in and out and I'm loving it and um and yeah, i'd like to say I'll still do that today, but it always feels like, oh God, there's so much content out there to consume. I'm not repeat viewing as much as I used to, certainly, but yeah, have you found sins doing a podcast that you watched The Simpsons less? Oh yeah, definitely, just just casual viewing. I've found that as well. And it's a shame because I used to watch The Simpsons all the time, you know, my teen years. I was just one of those Simpsons DVD's came out. I used to constantly the audio commentaries every night in bed, just that they were the first podcast they put me to sleep, you know that. Yea, The Simpsons, Like I loved the commentaries for the Simpsons and the Futurama were just like the best of all time they got me into. I don't think i'd be a podcast if it wasn't for those audio commentaries. They got me into that kind of thing. But I just feel like now that I'm watching the show and having to critique it and review it, then I very rarely go back and revisit it. And I don't know why that is. It's just I'm glad to know that you're the same. I don't know why we do that, but for some reason, I feel like almost now when I watch The Simpsons, it's almost like I feel like I have to watch it for a reason, as opposed to just watch it because I want to watch it. It's so strange. Yeah, it's it used to be at least a weekly occurrence for me to so to watch you know, one to five episodes or something like that. And I was staying up to date with the new stuff as well. And but yeah, since starting the podcast, like I'm only up to date with every episode up until about season three. Then I'm a bit scatter shot there. Like I will vary occasionally chuck on a new episode. But yeah, in some respects, I feel like I'm doing homework. I'm not like just chucking on something to you know, watch while I'm eating dinner or doing dishes or something like that, folding laundry. You know, because Nicola, my wife, she's still big on friends, Like she watches She's got the TV to herself, it's friends, And I'm like, I wish I still had that relationship with the Simpsons. I will eventually get back there again. I just think I need to start making more of an effort. But you're right there. It feels like you're doing work even though you're not doing work. And that's that's sort of like the one negative of doing it, since this podcast is watching the Simpsons feels like you are working as opposed to enjoying. Yeah, But on the flip side of that, you know, because one of my mission statements what with the Simpsons index, was to highlight the good episodes that are coming out from the new eras, and every season has about three or four decent episodes. And so in that respect, when I'm in a gathering and like that conversation eventually comes up, I can quickly turned to, oh, wait, no, there's this good new episode which shows some promise, you know, I would be able to watch it and sort of have it as a discussion point with my friends. But even in that situation, I still feel like I'm doing work. Like, yeah, I honestly stopped watching The Simpsons around about season twenty ish. I think so one of the reasons why I'm enjoying the podcast now is I'm going back and watching episodes and discovering new episodes that I've never bothered to watch in the first place. But someone has who I'm friends of, somebody who has seen every episode religiously watches it, has seen every single episode, never misses him, right, And they sort of say to me, it kind of feels like there's about two seasons worth of good episodes in about a decade between twenty and thirty. Like they say, like two to three episodes per season. He had about two seasons worth of good episodes in there. The rest are fine and not great, but there's like twenty to thirty really good episodes in that year. And I'm like, yeah, it sounds like I'm excited to find those, but it's like it's also a shame that it's like, in ten years he produced twenty good episodes. Yeah I haven't. I haven't watched them yet. I don't know That's what I've been told anyway. Yeah. Look, I mean there are some hidden gems from the from the new eras, and but I think I think a lot of people overplay The Simpsons is awful angle because I think for the most part, the majority of the new episodes aren't bad. They're just planned, like there are some hardcore stinkers in there, but like, for the most part, no, they're not offensive. They're just kind of illogical stories that kind of have a lot of elements that don't go anywhere, don't pay off, etc. A lot of like non secretary gags. It feels like there was a lot of family guy influence creeping in and the late teens early twenties in the show. So seventeen shocking for it. Yeah, Yeah, like cutaway gags and thought bubble gags and all that sort of stuff, which weren't uncommon with the classic era of The Simpsons, but just feel a little more egregious in the way that they roll them out and just to feel a bit more lazy, like. Yeah, One thing I found with the later teen seasons is that the big shift in the show for me humor wise, was that it went from a show that was writing jokes for a character and became a show that was assigning characters to a joke, where there were so many gags where I'm like, why is Flanders making that joke that doesn't make any sense? Why is Sideshow mal saying that that doesn't make any sense? But it's like they wrote the jokes when who can we have seen that. We haven't seen Comic book Guy for a while. He can say it. We're back in the earlier years. It was the character. The jokes were written with a character in mind, as opposed to a character assigned to a joke. Yeah, and a lot of catchphrase humor as well. I've noticed like that they'll bring in sort of clead Us to do his like incest or math joke all the time. Clead Us and Sideshow Mallock. What was the fascination with honest the guy? Like every episode in season seventeen sixteen, and it's like, oh, Sideshow Melo is saying something like this, and I'm like, why is he in every episode? Now? It's so weird that they select the Sideshow mall of all the characters. Yeah, and as well, like there's a weird point to get hung up on. But like Gil and Kirk doing kind of the same joke for each of them doesn't make their characters feel distinct or give them a purpose. And yeah, it's a lot of that catchphrase humor that I felt like they made fun of in like the bart I didn't do it boy episode, you know, with everybody doing their bit at the end, Like, but I was like self referential, Like now it feels like, yeah, they're not in on the joke anymore. And it's just it's just for me as a lifelong fan, your consistencies with the characters. And I've been told by many people, you know, you focused too much on the continuity in this, that and the other. And I'm like, yeah, but you know, I mean, you dedicate so much of your time in your life to watching a show, you expect some sort of like continuity to be there. The kem of point with reviewing the show, I'm like, if I'm going to be able to get through this, I just need to accept their continuity is no longer a thing. It's just does this entertain me? And that's sort of the That's how I approached the shows now, is was I entertained by this? Yes or no? Yeah? And quite often it's yes, but there are times where I go, not only was I not really all that entertained, but it was just so illogical. You've said the logical before. We recently did a million dollars Aby Heart becomes the bullfighter. What happened there? I just don't and I just don't get it. I'm like, how how did this get through some of the stuff? You know, Yeah, it's a big episode on euth and asia, hilarity and serious. You know, it was only about five to ten minutes if that on the youth and Asian angle. Then it moved on to him being a bullfighter? What and a guy my co host for obviously no guy who listened to this podcast, but Guy would often say that it's just a bunch of stuff happening, And that's what it feels like now. It's just a bunch of stuff happening that most of the time doesn't even really relate to each other. It's just a bunch of shit, one thing after another. This happens, then this happens, and this happens, and then we don't really get an ending, and then we cue the credits. Yeah, and sometimes they try and poke it and point it out Like that's like the big joke all along, and it's like, no, when you do it so many times, when you do it so many times, it doesn't work. Yeah, But I mean they're still gold in them hills and they're still find it a worthwhile experience. You know. One of our big things with The Simpsons index Like originally in our run, we did, you know, comparing three episodes from three different decades. Do you wish you just did two now? Do you feel like you sort of went through too many episodes too quickly? Yeah, we sort of caught up with the first twenty years, so like we just simply ran out of episodes and like there's not much to compare with the season thirty versus a season twenty episode. You know, yeah, you do you still enjoy doing the show or is it just a case of you sort of feel like, you know, we've been doing for seven years, why would we stop doing it? There is a bit of that certainly. You know, we've done over six hundred of reviewing, sorry, six hundred individual episode reviews. You know, there is a certain element of why stop now? If you have six hundred episode or just six hundred episodes within what you've produced, Yeah, yeah, about two hundred and fifty episodes of the podcast. Within that, yeah, about six hundred episodes of The Simpsons reviewed. But in the exercise of The Simpsons in X was always to be seeing the demonstration of a show working and not working. And for me and my podcasting partner BT, who are also creatives, this has been as such a worthwhile exercise in just seeing what not to do in creating a program and developing characters and a show and entertainment and stuff. So this experience has honestly been invaluable. It's just such a great education and honestly for creatives out there, seriously, go compare Simpson's episodes from old and new errors. You might not enjoy it, But if you just sort of get down to the nitty gritty and if you're fascinated with television show structures and character development and all that sort of stuff and logical storytelling, I think Bad Simpsons is such an invaluable resource to that, like learning what not to do is as important as learning what to do, Like failure can yeah teach you some of the best lessons. And like I said, for the most part, the Sins aren't a more just bland programming versus bad programming. But yeah, seek out some of those hot trash fires episodes, you know, mogoes from Rags to riches. The story of Mo's rag through the through the years is one of the stupidest goddamn ideas. And it's not only a really baffling choice to make that an episode, but they also have a b story which takes place in present day with Barton billhouse fighting, and it's like, wait, so you're doing like a Simpsons history episode at the same time as doing a bart friendship. What is this show? Like? It's funny though, right, I'm a father now, I've got an almost five year old, almost three year old, and they genuinely like the new episodes. Yeah right, I put on the I put on the older episodes. I think it has a lot to do with the animation. I think kids now they like, you know, a lot of fast movement, bright colors. It feels like the Simpsons are much more vibrant now than the order episodes. But I put them on. And Holly, in particular, my two year old nearly three, she wants me to put the newer ones on as opposed to the old ones. I think a lot of it has to do with the animation, because she doesn't understand the jokes. But is it just a case of whilst the episodes may the jokes may not be as good as the old ones, but is it just not for us anymore? Yeah, I think there might be an element of that. But at the same time, you know, our Gene is still show running the show, like he has brought in a lot of newer talent behind the scenes, Like certainly since about season twenty nine, they've really overhauled their writing staff and brought in a lot of new, young, fresh talent into the writing pool. So I think that can be argued to a certain extent. I don't know if I could so much justify that for the twenties, but yeah, when you're talking, you know, pure animation, it does look cleaner. Whether that looks better, I think we're always going to be biased because we love our greedy nineties Simpsons, we grew up with it. Yeah, we love the imperfection of that, whereas yeah, this is a bit cleaner and it's got a lot more visual jokes. Like one of the things you do notice, you know, for better and worse, And I think most of the time better using the wide screen, they do have a lot more background gags happening, and the scenes are a lot more interesting in that way. But also to me, it's more distracting. Yeah. Used to be more focused on the jokes and what you like the main characters. Now there's so much stuff happening in the background where I'm like, where am I focusing here? But that's also an element of I just think kids are now used to such a small attention spans. They need stuff happening all over the place to keep them engaged. And are they writing this show for us? Now? Are they writing it for Elliott? Who's now my son? Elliott? Who are they writing this for this show? Oh no, I'm convinced they're still writing it for this Elliott right here, just to see what, you know, how they can riley him up on the Simpsons in deck this week. I haven't listened to your show for a while, but like, you're still getting pretty angry at the new episodes? Oh man, Because my mom sometimes listens to the show when I was able the other night and she goes, why are you guys so angry? And I'm like, we're kind of bugging it on like it's a performance. We're a podcast. But yeah, at the heart of it, there is truth, and um we like the frustration comes from trying to just figure out the decisions that led to them making this episode and saying this is good put it out there. Um So yeah, it does rile us up, but I mean, we're bugging it on. We're podcasts. You know what we tried. What we tried to do with four is focus on whatever positives there are that we can find and then critique from there. So we always try to like highlight the positive. We want to try to have a positive as positive spin as possible on these episodes. But my goodness, it's getting hard. There's just and sometimes we just go, no, what this was just not great and here's why it's not great, and we get even angry by the end of it. Some episodes have left me so angry that the won't left me the most angry. I think I may have mentioned it on a recent get that we did was Codependence Day. My Homer awful leaves Marge behind the wheel after he drunk drove and I'm like, I just I am still to this day flabbergaster that that episode got approved. Who thought that was a good idea? Who gave it the or clear? Who like, what how does that? How does that happen? How do we ever ever have any form of love or respect towards the careter of Homer going forward after that? Because he doesn't even like learn from it. No, Marge. By the end of it, margin as one was going, I'm sorry, I'm like, what is what the what is this? What is this? Absolutely woful? Yeah, unfortunately you are in that um period where the Simpsons are juggling both the show in the movie at the same time, and unfortunately both are suffering. Um it does the movie. I felt the funny with the movie right the movie, I felt like I see it as two different movies. When they say to be continued immediately the movie loses its way. We get it just before it's when it's when they leave the leave the dome and Homer goes to see them. The tribal woman who was like, yeah, the special drinking that kind of stuff, and he's having the hallucinations and whatnot an epiphany, I'm like, that was just ridiculous to me. But I thought the first half an hour of the Simpsons movie was good. And then once I out of the dome, I just didn't care anymore. It just became It's almost like it was like not golden ear Simpsons, but it was like you know, early teens Simpsons and then late twenty Simpsons. Like it just lost its way. Yeah, it just it was too ambitious, I think, like I think they wanted to do too much with it, so it did sort of you know, talking about wrestling, it felt overbooked in a lot of ways where I think I needed to tell a much simpler story. But because I mean, one of the examples I point to with is the Bob's Burgers movie, where you know, it is not a perfect film by any stretch. It is kind of a long episode in a lot of ways. But the one thing that Bob's Burgers has over the Simpsons is that they have always kept them pretty humbled, you know, and they've always kept the show set pretty well within the town that they live in. And they extended the same to the movie. They just had their pre existing characters and they just embellished it a little bit, added a bit of shadow. Whereas, yeah, the Simpsons, they got a big dome, They're going to Alaska, they got the trippy tribal therapist thing happening. Yeah, I'll never no matter how many times they trying to explain why they chose this, I will never understand why they had Russ Cargill as the villain of the movie. Literally, you had the man there, why not Hank Scorpio or something like why it was right there? No, I mean Albert Brooks is one of the highlights of the movie as well, Like, here's the arrangement of guys who know stuff hard taft stuff that. Yeah, I love that speech. But yeah, it was such a nothing character. That movie needed to be nothing but fan service in my opinion, and no one would have cared everyone would you know? Some people say, oh, Star Wars least Ones, it's all fans service. I'm like, do you think Simpsons fans would have cared if it was purely targeted towards Simpsons fans? And like, just I don't know, there's a we should do a review of the Simpsons movie you and I one day, because there's a lot to sort of break down there, because at the time I was pumped. I was so just the overall just experience of the Simpsons movie in general film when it first got announced to when you know, that first day when he went to see it for the first time and your first thoughts and everything like that. There was there's so much dissect you and I should do it one day. We are going to be good. Yeah, absolutely, well, yeah, we still haven't reviewed it on the index either, but really yeah, yeah, we actually went back and reviewed the Tracy Ullman shorts. Actually we've watched all that. Um, it was really interesting. Actually, um, we're actually gonna be doing that on our Patreon soon as well. Oh it's such a fun um look back and just sort of seeing Yeah, the truly humble beginnings. And there's even a bit of crossover in the last you know quote season of the Ulman Shorts where you can tell they're doing double duty with the show and the Tracy Ullman shots aren't as good as the early ones. It's just so yeah, it's a fascinating thing where um, yeah, the early Ulman shots are way better than the later ones. Um. It's a simple thing is like the first batch were like, um, sort of these four act structures that had happened in the commercial bumpers, whereas the later ones were just like a single or just a two part sketch, so like they're a lot shorter, and like they kind of endued. Oh was that it? And like we had to check our files and notes and stuff because we're like, oh, maybe we got the wrong files, but no, no, that it was. It was all right, Like it was all fine on our end. But yeah, I totally recommend it as a worthwhile experience. There's this one short where Homers and Bart are alone making dinner and Homers like, oh, I've got frozen fish fingers or frozen pork mints and combine them together, and because of the very very crude animation, he's just like, here bartied a purple lob and it's just so surreal. Like the jokes even aren't the jokes that are intending, it's just, yeah, it's a wild time. What's interesting is that, you know, we're I think I may have mentioned some day as well, So the south Park Movie was getting made at the same time as season three of South Park, and we're just started season three reviews. I've gone down to South Park and man, my goodness, those episodes are awesome. So it's just funny how and I'm gonna give them credit. Obviously, the Simpsons as well in season seventeen by this point, so a lot of the stories have been already done by that point, so they're still trying to come up with fresh ideas seventeen years later, whilst making a movie but but no tray at They said it was hard, but they still managed to pull it off. Granted only in season three, so I still plenty of new ideas. But season three. Were you a South Park fan back in the day at all, like you said you mentioned season three, we've just we've just reviewed spontaneous combustion. Yeah, yeah, the ability to come to combine global warming with the resurrection of Jesus and like farting and still make it work like these guys, man, that's the greatest. Yeah. Well, Matt and Trey were a so story focused, you know, and came down heavily on Family Guy, as we saw in the I Believe season ten episode. We also reviewed that on the index because it pertained to Simpson, so you know, we let it count. Is that the way you mean at that time when news happened? Yeah? Yeah, yeah. The cartoon was um which aren't available on streaming anymore. Actually, you're gonna really Yeah, they depict Muhammad. I thought them they put their back up. I thought it was available again. Okay, maybe that was a like a year ago or something, but um yeah, but yeah, in that episode, they like used Cartman as their point to go. No, when we make jokes, it's it has to do with a story and it makes sense. This is just yeah, random bullshit. And I mean I don't exactly hate Family Guy, but you know, it is what it is sort of thing. It's one of those things I put it down. We thought it was also sitting with my mates and say, show so funny, it's so so funny, but it was like eating junk food. Yes, you know, like it was just tasted good at the time, but you feel like shit afterwards, where like the Family Guys like, oh, it's funny, but then Black season four or five, you're like, oh, so that's all you're offering me. Okay, can I go back to my roast meal with the Simpsons please? You know, yeah, No, when you're talking about Family Guy, you're always saying individual jokes. You know, oh, the episode where X happened, you know, it's like where Yeah, the Simpsons like Home's Barbershop quartet. You know what I'm talking about like, yeah, it was never the same with Family Guy, but I mean, yeah, I was a massive South Park fan back in the day. You have really fallen off them since they tried to make the show more serialized around season twenty and and they've they've fixed it up. But the latest season was so awesome, Like, yeah, recommended if all of Able and Paramount plus watched The Man, Dick and Bouse the episode, Holy shit, it was likely the greatest, the one where they take the piss out of Prince Harry and Mega Markle. So have you seen that one yet? No, I've only seen the the Hupid Me episode that I think started the season, and I'm like, I was really put off by that because I think Cupid Me is one of the stupidest things they've ever done. What was Prince Harry's book called again Prince Harry Book because they take the piece out I think it's just called call spare It's called spare right. Yeah, so so spare right. So they're they're Canadian, they're the Canadian Prince and Canadian Princess or whatever, and they're like, we just want out privacy on this Canadian talk show and she's got this really just like it's totally awesome, like that kind of south Park voice. But then the hosts. The host goes and you're here's your new book. Wha. It's just like so great. The whole episode is just about them. We just want out privacy, we want to out of privacy. And yeah, they're classic Canadian voices and I highly recommend season twenty six or south Park was was great. It was really good. Yeah, right, yeah, might have to check it out. Then it really feels like they're trying to get back to the status quo of like the earlier seasons, like sort of there's sort of different elements where they brought in like the marijuana farm and Cartman's family moved to like this hot dog shop, old diner and things like that, and it's all going back to the way it was in season Why. They're getting rid of all of that and just making it feel like season one again. And I'm all for it. Oh that's good because like, while at the time, I was like excited for the experiment of Syria, They're doing a serial live show and doing overarching stories, it just didn't work. And because of the way that they make the shows, you know, in six days that just they can't pre plan like that, And no more better demonstrated than in the episode where they totally thought Hillary was going to win and Trump won and then they had to totally reconfigure a show into the way it did not work. And yeah, the whole Tegrity Farms thing didn't do anything for me and member Berries as well as just at point, it's like it's the joke here that they're just chopping off the first syllable of words like yeah, but I'm glad to hear that they're getting rid of that anyway, nothing about south Park, but yes, thank you mister ali j and if for talking this, talking about but think here on four figure this game has been lovely to have you on our show. We've always talking being on your show, but he finally on our show. Yeah, it was a great time, great episode. Yeah, I had a lot of fun. We should definitely have you and more offen. What's another episode from the classic year you'd love to dissect? Oh ah man, there's so many, Like I remember when you're on my show you are, so what's your favorite? And I'm like, oh god, I hate that question. I don't know why I would have asked that. I hate that question because it's hard to have a favorite of the Simpsons. I mean mine I always go to like twenty two short films, but it could literally be any episode from that era, Like that was like my favorite ear of the Simpsons. You can say anything in the number. Oh yeah, that one's good. Oh yeah, that one's good, that one's good. You know, it's it's possible to have a really absolute favorite, but like they're the ones that stand out to me, that season seven ish era of the Simpsons. Yeah, absolutely, because like on our show, you know, with our ranking system, we give cubic zarconia to the episodes that were, like the Simpsons could not exist without this episode. This is why people love this show. And at that we've got like sixty something episodes that got a unanimous kubic zarconi or ranking. Yeah, in my mind, yeah, it's a equal xt for first for me, Yeah, my favorite episode is seasons five through seven. Like, if I said to you right now, which one do you remember watching when you were a kid, what's the first one that comes to your mind? Burns for Caufin to craft work, I hope my Germans. Okay, then, um, I don't know that one. Yeah, has a um ring has a real nostalgia to that time. Yeah yeah. Also Homer um when he accidentally saves the nuclear power plant. The episode title is spacing. That one resonated to me as a kid, because it just felt so sad for Bart losing Millhouse as a friend. In that episode, as Barns friend falls in love. Oh no, no, no where, No, that's where where his mum went. Let him hang out with him. Yeah yeah, yeah, Homer says plant. What I thought Homer is in the title, right, yeah, yeah, Homer define defined. Yeah, it's a bit of let we call ourselves Simpson's podcasters such posers. But yeah, that's a great one. That's one has any many money, mo, isn't it? M And John Lovetts as the Shelbyville nuclear owner, I'm pretty sure what a great recurring voice actor. You know, we're talking about Hank at Hank Scorpio talking about Albert Brooks before. It's just yeah, John Lovetts is such a big part of those early ones, and here's many, many characters. I don't think he gets anywhere near enough credit John Lovetts for what he's contributed to the Simpsons. And we are constantly going towards to our John Lovet's voice because it's just so fun. Yeah, acting, yeah, all right, it's been great to have you on, man, and I'm here to plug your socials one more time and we'll let you go. Yeah. So you can find all my stuff at the Simpsons index dot com. It's got all the links to the many things I'm up to at the momentum. But one thing I'll plug in particular here is the Patreon that we've got going is Patreon dot com slash Sidequest Studios, where every week we're doing a bonus podcast, mostly Simpsons focus content where reviewing the DVD extras actually and catching up my co host on a few of the episodes he missed. But we're also reviewing movies that star the cast of The Simpsons. And one of our Patreon perks is yet you can say what movie will review? And yeah, we've just had a bunch of great suggestions from that. Um, do you have any movies stando that stand out to mine that star the cast of the Simpsons. God Zilla ninety eight, mate, that's the one that we started out with, will like. It still has the most Simpsons cast members attached to a project that wasn't The Simpsons. Yeah, with Nancy hankin Harry. Yeah. Airheads is another good one. Oh who's in that? Harry? She here is the radio DJ, isn't it? Oh? Is he? Oh sick? I'm pretty sure he's the radio DJ when the Airheads cast hang in one second? Oh man? As a teenage medal head, I loved that movie. No movie, it wasn't it. Who was the fucking who is he? Oh? No, it's um It's Wayness World, isn't is it? Wayne's World? Waynes World two? Yeah? Yeah, we review That's what I'm thinking off. Where's got uh huh? He's not listening to them? Yeah, yeah, it's the old Yeah, he's handsome Dan and the screaming lunatic was Yeah, the handsome one. So have you done that one? Yeah? Yeah, we reviewed Wayne's World two? Yeah, we'll still quick's still quick? Google which ones? How many have you done? We've done about twenty so far off the top of my head. The Super Mario Brothers, the nineties movie that has Dan Castell and are at the start doing like the Inner World sort of thing, but he's doing it in a Brooklyn accent. It's very weird and awkward. What about Space Jam Space Jam? Oh, that's right, because Dan Castell is in that too, isn't he Barkley's killing us? I hope someone suggests that as well. I've suggested it, sir, movie starring Simpsons cast twelve best movie starting the Simpsons actors. Let's see what we've done all these I'll read and then we'll let you go the bird Cage. Have you done that one? No? Oh, that's Hanker Zaria. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the bird cage. That's all these ones. Who got what culture? You're gonna click to the next page, and the next page, the next page. Awakenings. I don't even know what Awakenings is. I don't even know. Julie Kavn is in it. Next one here, Julie Kavner. Actually. Um. Someone suggested a you know, Woody Woody Allen movie called Radio Days, which she is fantastic in, and then someone also suggested Click, which was a movie ye a little bit mystery Men, dum mystery Man. No, I'm really hyped for someone to do that. I love that Black mystery Men. Three Amigos. We did Toys, which has an unexpected Yadlie Smith appearance and her just you can tell she's really trying to keep it together while Robin Williams is just doing Robin Williams stuff. Yeah. One thing that we're we're going to do as well is animated shows that have starred Cars Melson Symstons as well. Like, for example, did you know that Nancy Cartwright was the love interest of dark Wing Duck. Oh what, yeah, there we go, that's what I mean. That's what No, sorry, I apologize, not dark Wing Duck. Bonkers remember Bonkers de Bobcat. Oh wow, there's a throwback. Yeah, so she is the love interest of Bonkers. Netty cart right, Yeah, you know Dan Castellanetta. He was the voice of Grandpa and Hey Arnold. Yeah, yeah, we reviewed the Hey Arnold movie as well. That was one of the suggestions. Yeah, what about as good as it gets? That's got yea And that also has Trust McNeil as the grandma as well, so that was CLIs too for their and Trust McNeil has been in a lot of things, so he got a lot of the way. We're there, yes, anyway you can go forever. But we won. Oh and one of the big ones, it was a return of Jafar, where Dan Castellanetta replaced Robert Williams. So, yeah, that's a fun one. There's a really interesting story behind that movie. I'm assuming you covered in your podcast, but like how it was just made direct It was I think it was the first director video film, and he went fucking bonkers sales wise, and that's where Disney completely changed their approach to making movies, like we can make movies on the cheap and just put a straight to video and make a shitload of money. Yeah. Absolutely, and yeah it was an experiment that paid off. It's not the greatest flick, but it's certainly seventy minutes of entertainment. Yeah. I think the third sequel, King of Thieves, is much better, and that brings while Williams back anyway, getting into the Disney podcast, Yeah, final one final for me, which we've already reviewed on our Patreon. The Truman Show. Oh okay, who's in that? Harry Sheer is the news report, the TV host who interviews um Christoph. Ah. He does a lot of those news reporter roles we're found across the show. Yeah, he just has that news reporter voice. Yeah, it's perfect. He popped up in an episode of Friends that Nicola and I has reviewed for the One of Our Friends, Our Friends podcast as a guy who was trying to buy Ross's monkey so who can use it in monkey fights. It wasn't even the episode for like two minutes, but man, he is so funny in it. Like it's just I'm like, ah, sorry with a giant mullet from nineteen ninety four. I love that nineties mullet. Didn't Han Kazaria have a bit in Friends? I've never watched the show. Yeah, he's Phoebe's love interest and fuck man, honestly, I nearly cried. It was so good, Like he is so good in Friends, Honestly, check it out. It's in from season one. He just plays his nerdy scientist who Phoebe falls in love with and gets to decide between his career and Phoebe. And it's it's brilliant. It's so awesome. I loved it. Oh cool. Yeah, But of course this has been four fingered discount with Alliott Joe Aneil from the Simpsons Index podcast. Go to the Simpsons Index dot com for all of their stuff. Once again, it's a Ali Jonil, thank you for joining me, and we'll catch you guys in the next episode of four fingered Discount Cool
