Everyone. It's Tuesday, May the third, twenty eleven, and you're listening
to the Giant Bomb Cast. I'm Ryan Davis joining me today, mister Patrick
Kleppick. The cookies have been eaten. Bye, none other than mister Jeffrey
Gerstmann. This was a horrible mistake. And then who wasn't in the room
when all this happened, but mister Brad Shoemaker, Thank god for that.
Jeff got hungry and decided to break open the now well expired Grandma's cookies that
have been sitting in this room April nineteen, April nineteen, but they live
is guaranteed from printed date. That was the day Mortal Kombat out and they
killed these cookies. That was that was their grand fatality. Yeah they were
They were not good. Now there's a time delay fatality on you. Yeah,
now that you've eaten these Grandma's cookies. Gross. They were gross when
they were new. Yeah, we've covered this. I don't know that they've
gotten any more gross. But those cookies aren't bad Grandma's cookies, Yeah,
they're pretty bad. These these ones specifically, I haven't I don't know from
past experience. I don't really remember fresh cookies is being bad, but these
these ones were specifically. Are you gonna get fresh from the factory Grandma's Cookies
factory factory fresh Organics. They there's some Maiden Plano Texas just cheap tasting about
Grandma's cookie. They're like, it's just like they kind of half acid on
the cholcolate chips. It's like all it's grit. It just tastes like a
little heavy on the shortening. It's a phone number on here. Yeah,
you're gonna give him a collig a piece of your mind. Your cookies are
always crazy. We can go confront them at that confection. Grandma's Cookies has
a booth. M it's gotta be just like a fourth level subsidiary though.
That's that's no, there isn't even a Grandma that is that. It's like
it's it's just one step away from the like where they used to keep the
Doritos, three ds and and fritola. Is it's the front for the CIA.
I mean everyone knows that, so chasing all the way. Basically,
are you saying that the CIA introduced Grandma's Cookies into the hood? Yeah,
exactly, government expiracy that you got an email and your sound effects over right
over there, saying stop talking about that for alright, change of subject.
Every while you're dead. Brian Cox won't allow us to talk any further about
Grandma's cookies. It's talk about video games. Video games are delicious. Can't
eat video games, all right, she says, So, Patrick Kleppick,
video games, get it already. This is great laying yeah things why I
died down a little bit after Mortal Kombat and Portal. So I went back
after you mean after Mortal Kombat, like Mortal Kombat is over or something,
Mortal Monday's over. The further way you get away from that April nineteenth man
the worst, the cook away from, and the stayer the combat, because
mortal combat is never over. No, I'm still playing this story mode of
that. But I went back and I wanted to finish dead Space Extraction because
I never did that, which is that it's the shooter or it's the wee
ones playing it on the POS three, Yeah, to play clearly. Yeah,
it's it's really well done. I was a little I was hoping that
I'm able to play it like with my fiance, but it is not a
girlfriend friendly like shooter at all like it uses terms of uses all. No,
he uses all the fucking buttons on that move controller, like every single
one is used for a different function. I thought it was just shoot.
No shoot, Like there's weapon, you gotta like rotate it to do the
whole rotated it holds circle. That's like a melee attack. There's like a
million things going on in that game. But you really just by the halfway
through, I was just shooting. I just I just have for us to
say, like shoot dude. Seems like that's still the main directive here.
Yeah, but you still have to do other things like it'll it'll, it'll.
It's not just like optimal optional like oh if you if you do this
this way, you're gonna get through with the best ending or anything. No,
but it'd be really boring if you weren't doing the other things. Okay,
so I finished, there would be like House to Dead. Yeah,
nobody wants that those games got boring. Yeah. Typing the Dead was good,
though, It's true. More need more typing of games or word packs
for the existing ones, you know, just a Dreamcast download to add more
words to typing, because there's so many more words now there isn't their PC
version of that. Oh yeah, they put it out in Japan. It'd
be a good ipaid game. Yeah, there's just a lot of it in
English, though there was always like an English alternate. I don't know if
that. Yeah, it'd be clutch trying to play tight in the Dead in
Japanese. That's not No, that's not easy, especially without a Japanese keyboard,
like knowledge of Japanese. Yeah, exactly, Like that's a double wammy.
But just stacks it up triple whammys. Having both of those. No,
no, type of good. But that would be a hell of a
way to learn Cono though. I'm sure you are, at least if you
already knew it as a suthlement. You're just saying, like people who want
to learn how to No, no, no, don't start with that.
But just step one, what's in the dead Once you have the basics down,
if you sit down and do that, you know, I'm sure you
could. Yeah, yeah, bright, you've you've you've taken Japanese courses ages
ago, but you've actually you've done you've done that work. I learned,
like I don't know, a hundred or something. You could play Typing of
the Dead, maybe maybe it is. It's slowly seeping out of my head.
You should try. Do you think that's like the radioactive de kay I'm
giving off Japanese ions? Do you think it's like the key first step learn
Japanese? Like you think like a live class like that sort of definitely helped,
that's key. It definitely helped. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I
mean immersion, you know, just getting in it sure and having to speak
it is the way to go. So you just living in Japan, Yes,
you want to yelling back at your anime tapes? You want to learn
Japanese? Just moved to Japan. That's my tip for a tip. Do
you want to learn Japanese? That's pretty reasonable man. Yeah. And you
couldn't do it and teach English, yes, because everybody can do that apparently.
Wait, why is that some sort of scam or people like I've seen
a lot of people go to teach English that I would not trust teaching anything.
I'm not really sure how that works. I think they're coming up short
like kidneys and ships. It's it's definitely not a scam, but the barrier
to entry is not as high as you would think. It's like, you
don't just not being able to teach well, you don't have to. Well,
they're different programs. I'm sure they vary, but a lot of them
you don't even have to speak Japanese to do. It. Isn't like one
for sure. I like the magazine I thought at one point about it playing
Jet. The Black Lifestyle magazine is also running. They they're teaching Japanese people
how to read JET. It's smart, expanding their readers exactly. I get
it. This is this is the future of print journalism. I gather.
The big downside of JET is that you have no very little control over where
you end up. So probably not Tokyo a lot of people I know.
Yet you end up on the countryside, you end up in like some tiny
town, end up ten thousand people out and like up in the mountains or
something. And then isn't that like how like Japanese doc Hollywood begins? Yeah,
that sounds great. One of them teaches you how to become a samurai
just so you can stand up for yourself, and then you don't learn how
to drift. I'm in where like jet dot JP? Where do I go
for this stuff? I know? I think it's a US based program.
Denzel wash copy Jet. Yeah, it's in the back. It's like make
sure you do check the right box because like one box is just subscribed to
Jet and the other one is like go to Japan and if you check the
wrong one, it's I think it would we can be a really I think
they would just be like shock, entirely separate cards for those things because it's
such a completely different interests just cross over that exactly. It's trying to save
money. You even put one xt to you the other I'm not friendly.
Yeah, okay, I get it. Going green. That seems like Jets
agenda. Yeah, so is this the last of the is this year?
You're clean up on dead Space two? Content? Patrick? What Severed wasn't
very good? Was I heard? Really? I didn't get around finishing though.
I haven't why. I was finishing Extraction in before play because Saturday has
the characters from Extraction in it, Gabe, so I figured I would finish
that before doing that. I mean, it's only I bought it. It's
only like one an hour and a half or something like. I played about
halfway through it and just I don't know what happened. It's it's more,
wasn't it wasn't a lot of the same. It was the same areas,
a mix of old new. It starts out with some new areas, but
then you immediately go into like the ending levels of Dead Space two, and
it's a lot of Yeah I remember this part part sucked first time, and
it's still kind of sucks. The ending areas of Dead Space two. That
seems like a horrible like spot to repeat. I mean, just like the
minds and stuff. You know, it's not giving away into the story.
And presumably you've played. Yeah, I wasn't say, they just make you
go through the machine again. Yes, straight, It starts out that way.
Two needles, the sime Oh god, no, no needles, man,
Yeah that was Patrick. Anything else really just kind of chucking through Mortal
Kombat. I just finished Mortal Kombat one of the Mortal Combat So you've beaten
Goro. Yeah, I learned how to I learned the game quickly introduced you'll
learn how to be cheap. Yeah, jump kicks, well, I'll him
out jump kicks. And just like apparently if you do the high fireball with
Luke King like, Goro will just jump into it every goddamn time. Check
on you do that low fire Ball with Luke k Hang over and over again.
That's the first time though, Yeah, dude, that second time,
holy shit, that's with raiding right the second Yeah. Yeah, I finished
the story motive, which is different about the second time. He's just harder
and you're using more of a us raiding. I mean it felt like he
had more moves. I'm not sure. Yeah, well, something was different
because it was way harder. Yeah, it is a harder fight. I
think just show Kon just stuffs more of your attacks. Just yeah, you
know you're talking about that resist that like do that. It's a yellow it's
like yellow resist the move the twenty five percent damage against you, yep.
Yeah, I mean he still takes the damage. So it's basically like rage
from mca vers DC. Yeah. I mean they do take the damage,
but still, I mean, there's there any consistency to that or is that
just it's completely random only face girl, I wasn't able to figure it out
some slight Well, the consistency, the lack of consistency comes from them kind
of giving you a break and sometimes letting it work. But like when you
get to the top of the challenge tower and you're fighting like Goro and Kataro
and show Kan kind of all at once. They will resist everything every single
time if they are able to. It seems like it's so it seems like
sometimes they give you a break elsewhere in the game, but uh yeah,
when you get to the top of the challenge tower that it just becomes like
you have to wait for them to do specific stuff and you know that they're
open to being hit with like scorpions, spear and in my case, and
you can take advantage of them that way. So it's just like che you
you're playing cheaply in a different way. It's like pattern memorization. It's like
you're playing a shooter exactly what that fight turned into. Yeah, it was
just like, all right, I know which ones he'll take an upper cut
off of. Yeah, so as soon as he does that, I'm gonna
tell far behind him. Yeah. Well, for for me, with Raydon,
it was all about like just kind of basically doing I guess it's like
it's whatever the triangle or why button is that. I don't know if that's
front or rear. But with Raydon, you can do like two punches from
that into the like shock grab thing and he falls down after that, See,
then you just kind of jump over, jump, punch, punch,
punch, grab again. So I was just doing that over and over and
to fight. And no, he'll eventually because because you're so close to him
that he'll try to attack, which then makes him unable to resist your strike.
But you're coming in so fast that you punched through it. And once
I got really good at get that and the timing on that, it wasn't
that hard. But I ended up probably playing that last fight like thirty or
forty times ye, good old yeah, exploiting the AI, yeah, exactly,
long, long lasting Mortal combat tradition. Ye. So so yeah,
I mean there's a history of bad MK bosses, yeah, well purposeful and
there's a history of like really terrible MKI. Yeah. So this actually is
much better than the previous games. The story of fights are much more believable
in this, Like, could you have made these characters in a way that
it would have like built off of what the game had taught you thus far
just about kind of the basic gameplay systems? Probably? Do you think you
could have made it compelling and like enough of a jump in difficulty, uh
for these fights without kind of resorting to this because the main complaint that I've
heard from people it's not that it's tough, it's just cheap. It's just
that it's like it has no bearing on anything that you've done. It's it's
it's it's you learning, like what what one specific thing works against this for
this fight, and then doing it over and over again. Yeah, it's
not that the other stuff doesn't work, it's just that these guys kill you
too fast for that to matter. They do so much damage, like shau
Khan's X ray does over half of your life. If you try to play
them like conventional fights, you just won't last. You have to play very
defensively and just no windows at the same time, like Shaukan's X ray is
this really slow wind up jump with the hammer you can like every single time.
I mean, let's just illustrate how right fucking savage these guys. Yeah,
but you know they're not playable characters for a reason. So yeah,
I don't know, like some of that stuff's a little ridiculous, but it's
it's just it seems like like in you know, in one way, like
sure it is kind of this call back to MKA past, but but it's
called back. It's a call back to like something really dumb understanding in the
Challenge Tower because you're asking for like absurd Yeah, but like in the story
mode, it comes across as a little a little much. They do have
they do have difficulty settings for the story mode if you if you want to
go now, but it's like like when you can do most of it on
the nosicuilty, like you really want to scale back just for that one boss
fights. It's the only consistent thing that I've heard plaints about from from people
playing it. I don't know, I just wanted to get Yeah, it's
just it's a mindset thing, like you have to you have to kind of
change everything that you have learned up to that point in all these other fights
and just adjust for for these specific boss fights. And it's not that much
fun. Please allow me to register my trepidation about the ending of those story
mode and then that's all I'm gonna say. What I'm talking about, Well,
you know, after MK three comes MK four, So I understand why
why you would know insofar is like what the story of the next enage,
just what it looks like they're setting up for the next one. I'm just
like, oh no, no, well you always have this one. Yeah,
like you said, this small combat will last you forever. Yes,
new characters coming. Oh he has that confirmed? Yeah, they've They went
ahead and set up a Twitter account for Scarlett and then a couple of the
guys on the team have pointed to it, and the other official accounts for
like Johnny Cage and stuff like that have been like following it or interacting with
it. Which for those I following the plot, that's Red leading Ninja the
Red Lady, she totally new? Has she ever totally new? It's a
palette glitch from MK two that would sometimes make Melina or Katana show up in
Red. So it was just one of those like yo, that's a separate
character, preventing them from having to design any characters on their own, just
like yeah, exactly, turn rumors and weird jokes into into characters. So
they're doing looks like they're doing that, So I imagine if that's the case,
then there's that interview that they did. There's an interview that that showed
up in like CVG for like half an hour before getting pulled where they said
it was going to be Scarlet and Ken. She is he blind? I
would I would assume he would be passed into blind. He's never not been
blind. But you know this is this would be him showing up in the
storyline much earlier than he normally does. Why they might omit? They do
tell they didn't actually end up so he actually was called blind Kenchi for a
while before they realized, like, dude's got a blindfold on, it's obvious
he's blind. Oh wait, they never they never actually did call him blind
kell. I thought that was like his official name, like on the Seli
screen. No, no, okay, I think they eventually just went that
it's just catching right right. They do. They do tell a lot of
origin stories with that story mode, Yeah, they do, so they cover
a lot of ground. How do you feel about the treatment of the stories
of mks or one, two, and three. I never thought of cabal
as, I mean, can we are we're just talking frankly here. I
think it does matter, right, I never thought of him as you continue
to bitch about it. Who never struck me as a police type. I
feel like that's like totally new information. I don't think they ever said that
was never part of his backs. I think he was ever like a Striker's
buddy and a copy. They probably had to find some way to work him
into this story. Like whatever he was, he was a like an Earth
champion in like a dude of import at least, like he was a black
dragon. He was. They addressed some of that stuff in the in the
story, but yeah, like at the start of that, he is straight
up a cop with Striker doing cops stuff in a pail and a ponytail.
Cops with ponytail. Think about that well, concerning how Striker rolls, Yeah,
yeah, Striker cleaned it up. Man turned that hat around to the
front. He's looking presentable, got rid a little bit of that paunch.
Yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't know that that. Yes,
that's that's alteration of the backstory of Cabal is necessarily worth getting up in arms
over. Probably it's probably didn't even bear discussion, But here we are.
Yeah, this is a mortal common mythology in general. Is where we've ended
up is actually talking about the viability of rain as we're totally earnest about this
whole thing. Video games, Yeah, video games are all right, bullshit
calling you out, Oh man, all right, fuck this, I'm flipping
this table over going outside right now and settling this games are bad discuss I
think video games are good. I think you're wrong. Debate of the century.
Finally we're finally getting out of the serious topics on this podcast. Prove
it, and I'll prove it. I've improved by having the debate. But
debate, what are you talking about talking about? Prove that video games are
good? Mortal Kombat. We were talking about it earlier. He's really got
you there, like that game a lot, it's all right. Saying it's
just all right, Yeah, we'll see that already invalidates your opinion video games
are bad. Yeah, well they're not good. Oh you're so you're just
changing your position now. Yeah, it's the worst debate of every being the
worst debate video You really committed to games, it's not worth talking about.
So I played. If they were better, i'd, you know, put
more heart into you know, maybe I should just side with you because I
played through Fable three this week. Yeah, video games aren't so good.
Wasn't that totally by accident? Yeah, so I guess you had played something
before. Yeah, I played like about a third of the three sixty version
when it came out before realizing that I didn't want to play it ever again
it's not it's not great. And then they settle on a copy of the
PC version, which is not up to the seventeenth so we actually I can't
review it. But let's just talk about Fable three generally in a non platform
specific way, regardless of regardless of what platform it appears on. Why or
let's say, you know, just because three sixty version, I don't even
know, maybe the PC version is a totally different game. It's not.
I need to know Fable three is not good. I need to know why
now, because you had a copy of the Xbox version six months ago,
which has languished somewhere because they sent it over and I was like, well,
I want to I want to see what I want to see what's up.
I just built this PC and you can see what's up in like thirty
minutes. Keep going, because I was thinking illusions working on my laptop and
just had Fable running all weekend and then whoops and just kind of like it
just kind of accidentally operated the controller to the conclusion of the game. Pretty
much Okay, yeah, yeah, that actually pretty pretty well represents my experience
with Fable three as well. Yeah, man, what a disappointing game.
It's uh, you know, like even if even taking the uh you know,
the qualified experience of Fable two into consideration, Yeah, which it had
its problem like even as someone who really enjoyed Fable two, Like, yeah,
it had it had issues. There were things about it that didn't work
as well as they should have or as advertised. It's a Fable three is
a game that feels even though it's not. It's a game that feels very
wide open. When they first kind of present you with the world and this
list of quests and you're like, man, there's gonna be a lot more
like this. I bet this is great. And then some of it's really
inventive kind of standalone stuff like where you're going into the weird RPG world is
that is the high point of the entire game exactly like commediately, and and
you start thinking like, oh, there's gonna be a lot more stuff like
this, Like nope, there's this stuff, and then we're going to funnel
you into this very tight path through the entire third act of the game.
Uh, And occasionally you out to go finish up any of this side stuff
that you didn't do, but by the time you get to this point,
you will have done all of the side stuff that actually matters. It's just
it's actually like well done. When they do the shift, it just feels
so unearned. It just like you don't feel like your your hero's quest has
gone on for long enough. Like yeah, exactly, like the whole the
whole point of the game, you know, like like building up this game
the game like you're gonna become king, yeah, and then you become king
and then everything kind of sucks after that. Yeah, everything kind of sucks
during it. I thought like even to suck before that. Yeah, I
guess it's who feels like it's not. It feels like it runs out of
consoles. The whole interlude on the Southern Continent felt very place like shoehorned that
end just to like kind of draw it out a little bit. Yeah,
before you before you spend the rest of the game sitting on a throne hitting
buttons to make decisions, right, uh yeah, And it's just it seems
like maybe you know, whoever was designing that game, you know, the
ending of it, I feel like they really wanted to try and teach players
a lesson about the way the world works. It was like, either you
can be popular or you can save everybody, but sometimes you have to make
tough decisions, like they wanted their moral choices to carry weight, But everyone
who plays games is so hardwired to get the best ending that I feel like,
that's why if so many people are so frustrated by the way that game
concludes, is because to actually get that best ending, Like I alad to
leave the game on overnight and then you need to you need you need a
bunch of money at the end of that game. And I'd been buying property
all along and was still broke just from buying and doing upkeep on property and
stuff. So I was like, it sounds like a real boring way to
choose a you know, moral choice. Well you're not supposed to. Like,
if you make the tough the choices that make you unpopular with the people,
it's a lot easier to get that gold. But they were just so
over committed to try teach that lesson and too like that whole device as a
game mechanic, They didn't there wasn't the weight leading up to that to justify
it. They didn't convey that to the player. Yeah, it doesn't really
well at all. Yeah. On the philosophical level, I feel like they
just created a false dichotomy because in every single case it was the unpopular decision
versus the versus like the like the profitable one or whatever. I mean,
Yeah, it was it was like those you can either you can either be
loved and sacrifice everybody, or you can be hated and save everybody. Yeah,
like it was. It was just like an either war proposition. There
no shades of gray there at exactly. And it felt like like it was
a very basic lesson and like how the how politics works, right, you
know, or something just really shallow like that, and and it's like the
good intentions, but then they got really gamy with the actual and they were
just they were gonna implement this thing. They were gonna make this thing happen,
and they give you then they give you the out of like I'm gonna
let this game sit until I have about seven million gold here right before I
take on the last mission or the last set of the last day of kingly
duties or whatever, of doing all the stuff and then just reverting at the
last second, Yeah, or you do all the popular things, which puts
you very far on the hole from a gold perspective, make it impossible to
save everyone theoretically unless you do what I did, which is like, let's
sit for about nine hours just accumulating gold from all the properties you've purchased.
Uh, and then you can save everybody and be popular and you win and
you also win, and you win, like except for the part where you
played Fable three, except for the part where Yeah, except for the part
where like I left table three running for about thirty hours or whatever whatever it
was over the weekend I've seen. Yeah. The thing that I remember just
being really terrible about that that section is just no, it gives you no
sense of how long that period is. Yeah, I feel like it's but
it but it remains true. And there were some people back then and even
recently it said, like, how you how can you say that it's a
big funnel towards the end game, they give you plenty of opportunities to break
out of it, blah blah blah. But the thing is is you only
know that by by looking at a fact or like basically like you know that
these are people telling you when it was me playing through it the week before
it came out when nobody had played it. Yeah, and just stumbling through
that. And it goes from day one twenty one to day one, but
at that point you've cross the point of an overturn. It's totally want,
totally crazy. I kind of want to put this just because it sounds like
it seems like an interesting experiment. They just completely failed on every level.
Yeah, it almost feels like the design doc sounded really promising and just the
implementation of it just been like it almost it almost feels like they cut stuff
out at the end, because the pace accelerates very noticeably, from like a
two week interval to a couple of months to all of a sudden, like
six months passes in the blank of an eye, and you know it's there's
a guy in place who says, like, you know, hey, just
you need to sign this thing so that you know how many people are gonna
die in the coming battle, and this might be the time to put some
gold in your treasury, uh before you sign this if you're not cool with
with what's going down, which is like they're very clear like this is the
time you can go. You can still leave right there and go do more
side stuff and let it sit if you need more money. But it also
says you have one hundred and twenty one days left, so it's it's it
doesn't communicate how so if you don't, if you're not like if if you
don't already know that going in, Like it almost happened to me. I
looked at a fact like right before that point, just kind of out of
boredom, like, oh how much how much Fable three is left? How
much more do I have to endure here? At this point it's like,
oh god, oh apparently it'll be hours of me letting this controller sit here,
with me running into a wall over and over again so that it,
you know, keeps going or whatever. And because then because then there's the
whole like with the weird busted passage of time idea, yeah, where where
time is still passing, where you've right where you're you're sitting there watching the
sun rise and set, but it doesn't actually take days away from it is
a day still a day. It's it's just a yeah, it disconnected.
It just that, yeah, the end of that game is really disconnected.
And they don't they don't give you the right kind of feedback. And on
top of that the character that's giving you this advice of like, hey,
you might want to like put money in the bank is a jerk who wants
you to do all the bad things and keep all the money for yourself.
So you've already kind of like or I gotten a point where I was tuning
him out and it was like, I don't want to do anything this guy
recommends because he is a bad person. So yeah, I don't know a
lot of a lot of big flaws at the end of that game. And
it just feels like you kind of you can kind of see. I feel
like I see what they were trying to do. It feels like the halfway
point in like the Lionhead development process. I feel like they were forced to
shift that game well before they had to turn it into a game, before
they had figured out right there is there's clearly this this sort of like they
knew at the end of Fable two, like in the third game, you're
gonna be king, We're gonna you're gonna be that's gonna actually manifest and how
that's gonna be. We'll have this this, you know, we'll have the
focus of the gameplay shift at a certain point, and like they hadn't really
figured out the beats of all of it, but at some point something that
you guys, gott to fucking ship a game for Holiday ten, and uh,
you know, this is what they had at the time. It's kind
of what it feels like at least. Yeah, it doesn't. It doesn't
feel like a fully formed idea. It's a Fable three for the Xbox three
sixty PC versus coming out on the seventeenth. Look out for a PC version.
I wonder if that one will be any different. Look forward to coverage
on tapon dot com. Hey guys, what's up? Remember that list of
things that don't bear discussion? Yesable three got it, along with Stories three
three. But out of great great voice acting in that game. Oh it
did just get Yeah, Oh dude, I mean the atmosphere, the writing,
the voice acting, like everything that was not the design elements about it,
you know, everything that was not O this game stuff, everything that
was everything that was not related to how it is mechanically put together and conveys
information you interact with it like all though, But but yes, the part
where it's a game is lacking. But stuff, all of the all the
you know, snarky British Earth. This was an interactive comic book, it
was a motion comic. How about if it was a better game? Yeah,
okay, but it got me thinking just about like kind of the the
nature of of games and rewards in games and stuff that we've all gone soft,
Like games aren't games. They're not they're not challenging products anymore. They're
they're thrill rides. They're they're they're designed for you to see them through to
the completion. And when they give you these options of like, yeah,
you can do this, but it's less than ideal, Like there's gonna be
some segment of the population that goes like, well, if I have to
go out of my way to make sure that I get the best possible ending,
I will then go do that, no matter how like weird and ridiculous
it is, and and just well they don't they don't make the bad choices
of the great choices impelling. That's a really big problem for game designers is
trying like they want to do good side and bad side, but you always
see that people do the bad side or the gray side their second play through,
which isn't what they want to because at that point you've experienced the story,
but it's hard to make like you'd like to see. It's a game
that makes being the bad guy like more almost a more enjoyable game experience,
right, Like you should suffer, but then but then well you want to
do that like Fabel does handicap, Like if you if you are the good
guy, then you need that much more money because you're spending money, you
know, building schools and crap like that. Like they let you, they
let you cheat out of that essentially, Like that's some way. Basically,
I think if they had removed the ability to save everybody and like made it
that hard either or that would have been a much stronger Yeah, exactly,
there's no way out of this either your decision. Either you can have people
like you or you can save them or you know some some but pretty much
Fallout does it that where like you can you can be as horrible as you
want, but if you just give a dude in the desert a water by
all the completely switched in your karma. Yeah, so they they don't,
Like I think developers don't want to have people commit to those because yeah,
because no one wants to play forty hours of a game totally screwed up.
Yeah, yeah, so they always it's it's why you can, you know,
change your dog into different breeds over and over again. And also they're
like, oh, yeah, that's why you can pay for haircuts in video
games because you've gone and I totally screwed up, Like, yeah, I
completely be voted to buy real hair cuts exactly. I completely messed this up.
I didn't want the Faehawk after all. It's uh, I wanted the
Afro totally different kind of game, but Infamous did a pretty good job of
incentivizing both styles of play and then also kind of locking you into one because
like if you played the good side, you got like the powers that you
got were more precise, you know, they focused on like sort of searchical,
yeah, precision, Whereas the bad side got you a bunch of powers
that were just like like an en mass destructive, you know, blew everything
up, and once you went down one of those paths, you had to
stick with it. So like they were offering different styles of play there.
It's like what if you got like fifteen hours in or whatever on that game
and then realize that, like the story wasn't going the way you wanted it
to I think part of that, that's part of because you want to force
players to do that, but then if they don't like the way it's going,
and I think you know that there are like, like I'd really like
to see the percentages of players that are willing to play through a game twice
to like experience it from a different perspective or whatever. And how many people
just like, well, I'm gonna play this once or how much is that
really just they want the achievements for the other side as opposed to like actually
seeing what likes are from the other side, I like from a gameplay perspective
or like from a storytelling telling perspective. I'm kind of over it, Like
I'd rather I'd rather these guys just focus there and he's on on one really
good one exactly yea, because the choices always feel false and I'll always just
find the like, what's the breaking point in this story where we're gonna have
to save the game so I can where does it fork? Yeah? Yeah,
exactly where? Like Okay, I'll have to roll back a couple of
hours and then I can get to this point and I can see what all
this guy's stuff. It's just it's it's more about just like I want to
see the content that I paid for, and that stuff feels kind of scrolled
away into these little side things, and you know, there's for bigger games.
I guess there's something to be said for the idea of I saw this
thing that most people didn't see and it was awesome. Yeah, but if
these games are, you know, huge and expensive, you gotta cram all
that shit into that main line, you know, to make this to make
this style of game viable, you have to, you know, But I
think it's something those assets like Bethesda has done it a lot over the years
of putting kind of some of their best stuff and in the side quests,
you know, you go back to like Dark Brotherhood and Oblivion and stuff like
that. Wouldn't it have been better? I mean concerning how shit the main
story stuff wasn't been more awesome. That's the main that. It's almost like
the Portal two stuff with the early playthroughs having the stuff that ended up being
the end of the game. Because they realized the stuff is so good,
why don't we make sure everyone sees it? And maybe more developers need if
if you're gonna have a linear experience, like that, and you're gonna try
and tell a story. It seems like it makes absolute sense. It's like,
let's put the good stuff there where everyone's it's it's it's with open worlds
and side quests and you know, adventuring style of games that we run into
this where Yeah, they filled the game full of side quests, which is
great because if it was just this huge open world with a big linear thing,
then you end up with Mafia two and no one wants that. Yeah.
I don't know. It's it's so like the disconnect is between like they
have a shitty Morald dilemma as well as their games. Just make that the
game, Yeah, make the game. Do you make the game best,
you know that, make the critical path the best stuff and all the side
stuff suck? Or do you make all the side stuff and gave a story
too for it? Yeah? I say that for game game deav Story three
D. Finally, Jeff Berrs, do you play anything else other than Fable
three this week? No? Not really, I mean I don't. I've
been messing around with Mortal Kombat, continuing to play that. Uh, because
they have a bat the patch coming up right? Uh? Yeah, Yeah,
they've they've got a patch they said they were working on like match like
basically matchmaking, and that game doesn't work. Yeah, King of the Hill
and the Ranked One of the one stuff was like York, you just you
hit ranked game and it just sits there and goes like we're looking and it
never ever finds anyone for me. So is that a case by case or
is that just I've gotten into two ranked games since the since they reset the
servers on the nineteenth, Like it was fine leading up to that. So
I imagine it's just like load issues, load issues that they're having to address
in a patch. But I guess they've also got some balanced changes in the
works. Uh. Some stuff on Twitter that that Paulo Garcia was saying is
that they're making some changes to KNO. I thought Cano was good. They're
making Cano better. From the sounds of it, they're making sound like people
are not like the upward ball will recover faster. I guess like I thought
he was want miss with it guys already. Yeah, the ai A Kano
seems seems rough. They make it seems like they make Kano a little harder
than the others. I don't know, but I enjoy playing this. Kno,
I don't like that game. Yeah, I think it's great that they're
they're going to be committed to making balance changes and doing all this stuff.
But I've already gotten into the kind of the classic MK form of I just
want to do random select and fight guys. I'm with you in spirit,
But man, that's a lot of characters to learn. It's it's not it's
not that hard that when it was when it was twelve though, I could
totally hitled up. Maybe it's just because I've probably already sunk like forty or
fifty hours into the game, between the Challenge Tower and the story and and
and all that other stuff. But I guess if you went through the story
and the Tower, you probably would have. Yeah, so you know,
so I'm having been forced to play as every single character, I can say
with some certainty that I never want to play a Shank Song ever again,
and followed closely by Shiva. But yeah, I guess yeah, having played
that much of that game, like I've pretty much know how to do all
of the specials and stuff like that, like like ridiculous combos of your character,
Like no way, I'm not I'm not great with everybody or anything,
but it's it's that's how I've had the most fun with the game so far.
Like even when when Sid was over here on Friday whipping our asses,
I understand Sid. Humans never would have taken that guy like prior to like
a month ago, never would have expected him to be like the world's biggest
MK super face stick over here. Even before that game came out. He
came over he MK two for a while against us, and that dude has
I hate this phrase, but that guy has solved MK two. He is
he is all neo in the matrix with that game, like he is seeing
the code running behind it, like he knows every in and out and every
trick in that game. I don't think he ever stopped playing it, but
he beat I beat him twice, and I'm pretty sure the second time he
let me win because I still felt good about because because all of all of
his cohorts were telling him that he had to let people win or we would
all stop playing with him, which is exactly clear what you're being, an
asshole. I played two matches against him, and I was like, all
right, I'm good yep, So yeah, I'm gonna go back to drinking
beer, play with a controller upside down or something. I had to do
that. There are a couple of challenges that flip the screen upside down really
and there's there's are There's also one where your controls are reversed. So at
one point I literally was playing with the controller held upside down and the other
one I was tilting my head around to see the screen the right way.
Challenge Hower sounds messed up. It's really really deep into it. Do you
get to that? It's I think one of the upside down ones is not
all that deep into it, but yeah, the reverse controls one is.
It's pretty high up there. It's kind of a grind, like I've been
plugging away at it. I'm only on like thirty something. I think,
out of what you're not plugging away on it hard enough. Two hundred and
fifty three. I was basically doing like thirty of them at a clip there.
I would, you know, play the game for a while and be
like, all right, I'm gonna get in the challenge tower knock about about
twenty or thirty of them. Yeah. I was thinking like maybe I'll do
ten night from No. One until I finally finish it. Yeah, it
starts getting hard around two fifty or so. At one point, Yeah,
at one point you are asked to beat three show coons with Shank sung and
that was where I realized I never want to play a Shank again. And
so one of the things the game does is if you lose on a challenge
repeatedly, eventually it starts giving you a break. Don't tell me that.
I had suspected that playing the story mode, and I really did. I
don't know if the story mode does, I kind of probably it probably totally
about how like a third of the way through the story mode, I was
like, man, it seems like when I lose about three times, Yeah,
some of those double matches, you'd all of a sudden there wouldn't be
their specialist. And what they do on the Challenge Tower is if you lose
a bunch, then all of a sudden, matches that weren't restoring your health
between fights will start restoring your mechanical. Like, if you want to make
three the final challenge easier, you load it up and lose fifteen times and
then go from there. I would. I just went through the fights myself,
and you know, lost fifteen times of my own volition before it started
giving me that break. But it's all doable. It's all totally doable,
bread shoemaker. You finished Portal two yet I did? What do you think?
Oh? Man, it's pretty good. It's pretty strongly finished. We
finished you finally. You didn't get spoiled. No, I didn't know a
damn thing. Yeah, it's a nice twist at the end there. Yeah.
What is the statute of limitations I'm talking about? I don't know.
We've established some some statutes. I think it's got a very I think it
varies from game to game. Pretty sure, game when the games are good
and the stories are the best part about them. Yeah, I think we
go a little longer. Yeah, I mean, I don't think we've given
up anything too bad so far. But but yes, the story is good.
I guess it has only been what two weeks? Yeah? Wait?
Is that didn't really? I guess that game deserves about them, but it
felt like it had done about a month. I'll just keep in mind,
you know European releases that she didn't come out until that Friday. Yeah,
I believe po code say brads trying to talk about to to your ear hole
man. You asked, you asked, give you some spoilers for Universe sand
If you blow up the sun, it fucks up everything. What's the Universe
Sandbox? It's just it's out on Steam. It's it's I've seen the name.
It's not really it's not really a game, but it does have Steam
Achievements, which I thought was kind of cool. You get one for blowing
up the sun. No, uh, you get one for like launching it
like all the none of the achievements. Wait a minute of that? Great?
Is this actually? This is actually a sim This is not a game.
It is like you can create your own universe. You can actually create
planets and set the mass and all this. We're gonna do a quick click
of it there. But you can just load up like our Solar system and
click on the Sun and click on blow up. Shut the fuck up,
like it blows up and yeah, basically actual like kinetic energy being released or
just like deleted from existence and kinetic energy being so you can there's aftershock and
it's and then and then it shows what happens to the Solar system. Yeah,
after that, like where does the Earth go? Is it? Is
it? There is this thing trying to teach you any real science or is
it just like the gravity is apparently based on real But you can bow up,
you can blow up any you can blow up anything. You click on
the Earth, blow up the Earth. Se would happen to the Moon.
The moon just goes. Man, I just got nothing. I downloaded something
like this while back that was not on Steam. I just got this thing
has been around for This is actually the same thing I've played with. It
was like a trial version out that I got. Yeah, this has been
around for for a while. It's just it's new to Steam. I may
have seen this in the past, but and it's it's pretty fun, you
know, Like they someone so they have like some community made scenarios and someone
basically made like Halo. So it's just like here's the Halo ring orbiting around
this planet, and then here's the thing that orbits Halo, and then here's
like the four Runner gas mining facility or whatever, and you just blow Halo.
What have you done with this besides blow things up? That's about it.
Yeah, I haven't. I haven't tried creating a universe yet, only
destroying and usually our our galaxy specifically, right, But yeah, you get
that personal investment exactly, Like what would happen if Venus blew up? What
would happen to Venus? Pretty we also just like delete stuff and see what
happens. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're move it around. Yeah,
Like did they pull a bunch of NACID data sets? Is it all like
pretty accurately modeled. I'm not sure about like the accuracy of like you know
where stuff is in space on this date, but it does have real dates
in there and stuff, so like it'll you know, by default. I
think the default Milky Way simulation starts in two. See what would happen if
the sun blew up on your birthday? Yeah? Can you like fly to
Cannus Majoris or whatever? I mean? Yeah, we're talking the whole galaxy
here pretty much. You're getting real excited. I'm so excited. You can
go to Wolf three five nine and do something blow it up if you want.
Okay, you get that button if it's gonna say so so far,
it just sounds like it doesn't sound like is the blow it up button always
present on screens? As soon as you select anything, a little panel slides
out that has like the mass of that body, and you can you can
change that and do a bunch of different things there and then not at the
bottom, it's just this button like blow up. There's advanced options for blowing
things up where you can set like the force of the explosion or whatever,
and also the number of projectiles which to fall to, like thirteen or something
like thirteen pieces. See this doesn't sound like a construction simulator whatsoever. Well,
I mean you can start with a completely empty universe and fill it full
of your own homemade stars if you want, Could you say change mass and
volume independently, because then you can make a black hole. Yeah, you
can take a giant start well, if you blow up, condense it.
No, you can condense it down until like super tiny but the same mass.
Then you get a black hole. That would be cool. I believe
that does happen. One of the so it has much of tutorials and stuff
you can go through, and one of them is like, what would happen
if the Earth had the same mass as the Sun and you do it and
everything goes crazy? Let's end this podcast? Could do that? Clep.
She making it sounds like this is a quick look for you. As soon
as Vinnie gets in, We're gonna do it excellent. Yeah, I mentioned
Vinnie's out because of eyes. His eyes have gone bad, exactly blind video.
I learned from this experience that macula is an unpleasant word. Yeah,
such as in macular degeneration. I guess, yeah, whatever's going on there,
macular conception. That's that Madonna greatest hit thing. So we hope Vinnie
still has eyes the next time we talked to him the Macular collection. It
sounds like he just needs to spend less time staring at monitors. Yeah,
which that would help probably doubles for all of us. Maybe that would help
Breas Shawmaker. Yes, other than Portal two, which we won't talk about
at length than to say you liked it. Yes, it's good. I
look forward to play more of it when they put out Free DLC. Indeed,
thank you, l I went down to Sony last week. This was
a pretty fun time to go to Sony, I bet, but actually nothing
really it was there a room, nothing to report about that. This was
exclosing someone like standing near a room and just touching the door knob. Still
still hot. I think this room is still on fire. I don't think
we can go in there. Uh No, it was pretty calm. Okay,
I just went from the elevator to a conference room and played a bunch
of Infamous too, so all right, and then it was led directly back
to the elevator. Get the hell out of here. Yes, so you
didn't hold this press event in some sort of data center somewhere. No,
didn't try to hold it in the cloud. Certainly. Do you have to
supply a credit card to get into the conference room? No? I bought
a pretty paid card, okay, gave it to that smart and they let
me write up uh in from the sue man. I want to play that
game right now. Holy shit they've been releasing it looks look incredible. Yeah,
uh it, Thank god. It plays exactly the same, like just
you know, top level of control stuff like feels exactly like the first one.
I thought that was one of the best playing third person shooters I have
ever played. Just like the field of movement and the aiming and dodging too,
it's like all of the immobility stuff. It just like the I guess,
yeah, I guess I was gonna. I was gonna say, like,
why would you call a third person shooter because there's there's a lot of
shooting there was a lot of there's a lot of holding the left shoulders zoomed
to an over the shoulders shooting perspective. You have a rocket launcher, you
have grenades, it's just space grenades. Yeah, it was electric electrics,
electric everything, but it's just shoot. Everything is a flamethrower, right,
I mean there's melee and stuff to Yeah, but I mean it feels it
controls. No I'm saying, I'm saying I agree with you. Yeah,
it's what I'm saying. I'm just hammering the point. Someone seems like it's
a lot more animation going on with the combat was much more flowing. I
could see that. Yeah, maybe I don't know. It's like it looks
and feels and plays pretty similarly. So what about to sit out to you
that giant monsters? Okay, holy shit, all right, Uh first game
didn't really have well, let's had a couple of bosses, but they were
kind of muted boss fights. If you guys, did you play with Patrick
ye, remember dudes, you're not a huge fan. Yeah, it didn't
Because you're right. It was a third person shooter, and very early on
I became extremely frustrated by enemies who had actual guns who could shoot long distances,
whereas my electric powered gun, which was me, had a very distinct
and short distance that pretty quickly. Yeah. I just I just didn't get
to that point, and that game had a saved system that allowed me to,
if not lose progress. I feel I was running back to where action
was from my stupid home base, really really off. Yeah, I felt
like I was just like maybe I was just you know, you didn't like
hanging out with Zekee. It's just that it's in it's a dead part of
that city. So like anytime, like, okay, I want to actually
go and were you Were you one of those prototype guys. It was all
like Prototypes better than Infamous. No. I played through Prototype and I acknowledge
its shortcomings as well, but it let me keep playing. For some reason.
I can't this an Infamous two will do much for you, because it
very much feels like the same game with a lot of new stuff layered on
top of it. I mean intellectually, Like looking at Infamous, I could
tell it's clearly the better game, and it's you know, a lot more
polished, and they've done a lot of work on the frame rate and the
uh. I hate to use with the word. But the jakiness, the
open world jake seems to be at a minimum. There's a lot of destructible
stuff now. You can blow like entire walls off of warehouses and stuff just
shit like anywhere everywhere. Not I mean there are clearly parts of the parts
of the world, the world geo. Yeah, that's uh, whoa the
you know, the level geometry, the you know, there are buildings that
are clearly static and you can't do anything with them, but like I'll tell
the difference between them or not so much like you would have to shoot a
rocket at it and see what happened. But a lot of stuff breaks,
like you can straight up just like shoot your way out of a building if
you don't feel like looking for the door. Cool in a lot of cases
that I saw, So that was pretty cool geomode technology. Yeah, was
there any inside stuff an infamous one or some underground like a lot, but
those were kind of like one off little platform levels. Uh, it was
mostly outside actually, I mean this was like open warehouses where an entire side
is open or something. It's not like you're loading into a building or something.
But monsters anyway, So yeah, they didn't have a lot of boss
fights in the first one, but they have straight up Godzilla size, like
a giant shit stomping around like big looking. It was like halfway between Godzilla
and like Praying Mannis or something, just rampaging through the city destroying everything.
It had weak points shot him that died, So I mean, you know,
this stuffs cool god What else was going on? There's like there's different
disciplines now, It's not just electric powers like ice or whatever. Now,
So yeah, that was the thing like the first game, like you picked
or good or bad alignment and then you kind of got electric powers tailored to
that. Yeah, like you have everybody's My impression of it is that everybody's
got the electric powers as a base now, and the fire and ice powers
are sort of like what you get depending on which way you know. And
aren't they still trying to listen that it's still derived from like electric ice or
it's electric fire. Seemed pretty separate from what I could see. They kind
of loaded me on with a debug. Dude, they just had a whole
bunch of stuff. So I just kind of played with a bunch of the
powers. But which one is good and which one's bad is fire bad.
They didn't. Fire is always bad. Fad fire bad, It's weird.
I guess there are characters in the story who have these powers, and that's
where you learn them. Like there are other superhero power guys running around this
city. It's it's not just you anymore. Uh, And so I guess
you'll align yourself with one of either the Ice Guy or the Fire guy.
And that's kind of how you get that stuff. Which one is voiced by
Keith David because that's the one. Which one is David Keith? You can
only dream? That's the eternal question. Yeah, that's the end and yang
of if that guy even gets auditions. Where's David Keathson? We know where
David? Yeah, Keith Keith. David's fucking everywhere, fucking in the passenger
seat while ice Cube is driving and they are cursing at someone on the street
in all seriousness, Is he in that game? I don't know. I
didn't know. I was like, for all I know he has been.
They're saying, look at this motherfucker right here up here on this bike.
Yeah fuck that cue talking about the voice acting though I talked to him about
it some and like, I guess I guess that is a big deal with
that game. Everybody hated the so you know they redesigned that was actually they
hated the voice people and they hated the little new calls. So they redesigned
him at first and everybody hated it, So then they re redesigned him to
be more like the old understood that didn't people really identify with colin the first
place, like I mean he was That's probably what led them to redesign him
or something like nobody really cares. He was proto bald dude, like every
single he was like random anti hero voice like voice short hair, so he
had render. Yeah, I just didn't understand why there was always flak.
I didn't the game was fun. I didn't for the story or the character.
It makes sense. It's like, yeah, it was like a level
of rage that was approaching, like the Devil My Cry stuff, but at
least with Evil My Cry. I was like they were like four games in
series, like people identify. I don't really get it either, but it
raised people's eyre so we didn't notice anything playing well, point being uh the
so you know, they visually resigned a long time ago. We knew about
that, but the voice acting that people heard that they hated so much early
on that was kind of like all they had recorded. They had not done
the bulk of the recording at that point, so all that criticism informed like
how that guy actually played the character when they went and did all the real
sessions. So he pretty much sounds like that first guy. He must have
been a really fun session. Like so all the time you did early on,
everyone fucking hates it. So we want you to sound like this other
guy, sound like the old dude, the guy we had before. Anyway,
point is he looks and basically sounds like the old guy. So anybody
who was up in arms about that can He's just a concern when you get
you know, when you've got a character like that that maybe you enjoyed his
elements of the everyman presentation of Cole that have suddenly he's getting all I don't
know, you know, Prince of Persia, like you talking about same time,
when you go from the first one where he's like he's getting this good
archetype and and yeah, you like you, your immediate impulse seems to be
to dark them up and make it more extreme. So you know, seeing
that is kind of bigg boarding on electricity. Right, it could be a
little jarring just from a consistency standpoint. Well, I think it's it's it's
that knee jerk like hoping that doesn't happen. It's you know, it's expecting
the worst for that kind of stuff for sure. Uh So, yeah,
they got the lightning powers, They've got the fire and ice powers. There's
also like ionic energy because you had an AMMO before that was just electricity and
so now like he brush his teeth, yes, totally, all right,
right, I think you'd never have to power. You have to teeth power
of ultrasonic there's clean all the time waves like Keith cleaning. I didn't I
didn't get a sense of really how that stuff's can feed into the powers.
But you will have different powers that only work on that kind of energy.
Happens when that guy do you like create an air ionizer that then you put
in the rooms of people with respiratory an Okay, you run around with one
of those sharp damage things and then everyone gets sick. Yep, that sounds
like a pretty evil path thing to do. That's that's infamous too. In
a nutshell is there is the morality stuff any more interesting. So I remember
in the first game really not making any difference on the story is more just
well it was more what power as you got, as opposed to like scenes
like you would get different cutscenes depending on what you did. They were like
they were like those very unfrequent, like very specifically scripted good or bad choices,
Like it was like whether or not your girlfriend thought you were a total
monster or just most they just seem kind of like the morality was lame.
It was more like what power did you want? Just go down that.
I mean, I would agree that it is definitely contrived, but it was
also present, you know, it's it wasn't in insignificant what it did to
the storyline, but they didn't show any of that stuff here, so I
don't really know. I mean, you could grind good and bad points in
the first one by like either kind of killing or healing civilians and stuff like
that, and that stuff still in here, So so there's that. But
then just like the only other mechanical thing I can think of is that it's
you can have multiple powers in each slot, Like you had to kind of
pick one before and stick with it, but now like you canna have like
two or three versions of the p shooter. You can have multiple kinds of
grenades. It's cool and like very quickly just hold down the deepad and swap
out which one you've got on that button. So there's like a lot more
stuff you can do with combat. But it plays really well. They've added
a bunch of stuff to it. It looks better. It's seems like it
has a smoother frame rate. It just seems better all around. The user
create admissions, yeah and all that stuff. Game. That game sounds crazy.
Yeah, I cannot wait. Next month. It's out the first day
of E three, which is June seventh, next month. Three Yeah,
yeah, three, yeah, stop it? Yeah anything elsa red shoemaker.
You want to talk about Outland? I played a bunch of that. You
played a bunch of it. I'm almost done with it. Good, it's
crazy. Do you still like it? Look for a review soon. That
game is great? Isn't somewhere between great and fantastic? I haven't decided yet.
Okay, it's really good. I don't know how far you guys got
into it. But I only played a little bit past the tutorialized stuff.
I mean, I did that stuff where we went to be soften and played
kind of a weird, you know, vertical slice of stuff. But it
seemed like a lot of waiting. I think it. I think it looks
incredible waiting for waiting for platforms to come back and be in the right positions.
I just felt like there was a lot of like as you were going
up through these, as you're progressing through these kind of self contained puzzles,
because it's it's kind of like a floor mentality there of of you're gonna hop
through this set of these moving platforms, then you can get to a little
break area, and then you know you'll you'll go onto the next set.
I just I found that a lot of those were very trial and error based,
so there was a lot of like jump to a certain point, getting
knocked off by red bullets when you were expecting blue bullets, and then it's
like, okay, now I have to wait for the these moving platforms and
then getting into the right alignment so that I can make a second run at
this. Based on the thing you saw at their office, this was based
a little bit on that, and end a little bit on kind of the
opening of the game. I don't know, once you get the I mean,
so just to explain, it's also kind of a slow run up at
the beginning of that game, maybe a little bit. They definitely they wait
a while. So okay, so what it is, it's about eighty percent
of a metroid vania like that everything is not quite as interconnected as it could
be in that sense. Yeah, but it is a big world where all
the levels are stuck in the end. It's just that there are a lot
of loads and weird ways that you get from from place to place, but
it does not convey that early on. Not not a ton though, but
it's is that mixed with the color contrast of Akaruga. Basically, uh,
I guess I don't get I don't get the metroid Vania. I think so
much because there are a lot of areas early on that you can't get to
until you get powers later and you can come back and get into them,
which just doesn't seem like there's that same depth of powers to be got.
There's pretty much all that's I mean, there's no grappling hook, but there
are equivalents, you know. There there are launch pads and teleporters and okay,
well like charge charge abilities that will bust downhalls, you can't playing it
for like twenty minutes, or you don't have long eyes pound with it,
like yeah, the early parts of the game and don't even give you any
indication of that thought. So I mean, like it sounds awesome, and
the only way you would know that is by looking at the subscreen and seeing
that there are like a dozen powers that just say locked and you don't know
what they are at that point, but yeah, they are totally They're countless
instances of going back and getting into like through walls or through obstacles that you
couldn't before. It was it was hinted at when I first looked at it,
that yeah, there would be some reason to go back and look at
stuff like at this point, I've got like a charge melee attack. I've
got like a beam that you can sweep around and hit people with like tons
of stuff. I just I never that sounds awesome. It's cool that it's
cool that it's all kind of like contained in one play through, because whenever
I, like in that early stuff, when I did see areas that I
couldn't get to yet, I figured that was like second play through sort of
thing. So and in fact, probably two three hours in you unlock the
teleporters where you can just just like zip right back to those maps if you
want. But the combat has a lot of depth to it. You can
because you got like an upward kind of uppercut swipe. Yeah, I think
that the launcher and yet stuff use that as a launcher. You can slide
into guys to stun them and then launch them and then jump up and hit
them in the air before before they hit the ground and they're dead. Like
you just lots of stuff you can combo together, and then bullet hill,
like tons of bullet hill in that. Oh yeah, it's like the red
and blue like because you don't take damage from same color bullets, so so
you have to you have to hit this like the right pumper or whatever.
He gets fucking intense at some point, like you were having to constantly change
colors back and forth to like navigate this just insane cloud of bullets and platforms
everywhere because they're they're platforms you can only stand on when you're a certain color,
but then the other color of bullets are coming at You're keeping in the
air and trying to change color long enough to take that swipe of bullets and
then be the same color again when you land. There are parts where they
are like two horizontal platforms that you need to jump between, but there's a
vertical platform of the same color, so you have to jump at that platform,
change color in mid air, and then change back before you hit the
other. It's it's it is real. It isn't awesome. It's really good
and it looks amazing. Like the art style is ten dollars. Yeah,
and it's only ten dollars, and you know it's got some pretty decent co
op stuff in there. Yeah. Yeah, we were messing with the co
op and that was last week's XBLA. Yeah, and who knows what it's
gonna happen now, but it was I guess scheduled to be out on PSN
this week. Yeah, I don't know. It will end up being like
a giant content dump or supposed to be before. We're supposed to be the
same week. Oh originally, okay, we are. Our database might be
wrong and well I mean I mean someone just pushed it back away. Yeah,
because it didn't come out the week before. Its like, well,
let's come out next week, right, It will be back next week,
right, They're saying it will be actually be back this week. Maybe part
of it. I just I just got my SOE noticed last night of Hey,
we also may have lost your credit cardiformation too, so we're gonna shut
down those services as well. They didn't they didn't know in the US,
you're okay, okay, rest of the world, you may you may have
been double dipped. Yeah, that's no good. Anyway, I play that
game L ten bucks Xbox Arcade now it's beautiful, and the comment all the
gable network maybe days fluid, I highly recommended. How yeah, how long
has it's been so far? I would bet the story modes probably six ish
hours long. Maybe it's about normal links for that kind of game and talking
about these downloadable games. I forgot all about the game that I played a
lot of last week, and that's Trouble, which is neo. Yeah,
you did play a lot of that. Why did you play so much Trouble
which is neo? Jeff, I don't know what's wrong with you. How
many Chiven points seven seven? It has a bunch of like there's one it's
three, it's yeah, and then there's another one that's like ends with a
nine, and there's like a one point one right always eleven. Yeah,
it ends up matching out. You know, it's everything. I can get
even again by going into the shop and placing the cursor over the face of
the girl, the anime girl who works in the shop and pushing the button
until I get kicked out of the shop by her evil sister. If I
do that thirteen times, I at thirteen points. I don't know that I'm
gonna do with though, because I don't know that I want to play Trouble,
which is neo every how long? How long does it take for you
to get kicked out of the shop, like like five seconds or something like
that. Have you just like slamming on the button as she laughs, it's
not like a five minute process. But then you have got to charge it
up, right, But you know, then you get kicked out of the
shop and you have to play the game again to get to the next shop
and get kicked out of Oh okay, you can't just like constantly go back
to the shop exactly. So it's more shooter's shooter. It's a side scrolling
anime themed shooter wherein you play as which is they localize this game. There's
a lot of dialogues shot in the grandies sense, right, like that scrolling
that type of scrolling shooter. But you're not a ship. You're a girl.
You're a girl room or a dog who runs in the air and also
shoots. I don't know what it is, but I have a place in
my heart for shooters where you're not a spaceship or flying vehicle of any kind.
You're something that shouldn't be flying and shooting like that too. Maybe if
you were just the dog. Yeah, maybe it's a hidden mode we can
just play as the dog. There's a lot of dialogue in that game,
which is all poorly acted and recorded. When the troubles are the Witches get
into neo trouble. So I reimagined to trouble. Yeah, trouble we've seen
before. I think Trouble Trouble, which is new VOT got it, which
was of course the original title. I don't think that's actually true. Probably
not. Uh it actually had so they do have the original Japanese voices in
there, but then they also have like these really poorly translated localized English voices,
which are amazing because they're so goddamn bad. Do you recommending playing with
the English voice acting absolutely if you played in an office and don't have the
headphones on to everyone around you. Yeah, and you think it was intentional?
Do you think they knew what they were doing? And I don't know.
I don't know what I want to know. I think everything in that
game is intentional, very but not for any comedic crez. The broader question
like, is it possible to make a really bad English dub of an anim
in this day and age? And don't you know what you're doing if you
do that? Like, I don't know, I'm not sure. The people,
none of these people sound like they actually speak English, Like it all
sounds like it was spoken phonetically. Okay, So it sounds like some old
school dudes that just have been making games like that all long or something did
it or okay or something. So it's not like they just went down to
the accounting department dude who knows? Yeah, yeah, yeah, who can
say? Don't question the methods of band Presto. It's not even Presto.
It's saying these are ex band Presto, saying they probably are the probably did
time at band this game, clearly at S and K published it, so
they did not develop that that sounds about right these days, because that's that's
what that's Play more, yeah, play more. So it's weird Korean studios.
Siesta, I think is the name of the studio that actually developed it's
been on. The three guys that used to work at Band Presto that now
are off on their own. Let's keep making shooters. You guys told them
they couldn't make those games anymore. Probably wrong. Liber all taken up slots
right now. The game. Yeah, I don't know if that game originally
came out in arcades at some point, and uh sure, it's now available
on your Xbox. Does it goes? Does it go sideways? It doesn't
go top down, scrolls to the right, yeah, yeah, force movement,
movement scrolling. O. Yes, there are different witches to play as,
each with different types of shots, and you can you can buy it
anyway anyway. I beat the game with one of the characters. It's not
a particularly long game, and you can continue as much as you want,
so, you know, again, just proving that games are really about thrill
rides and making sure you see every little bit of great story that they have
developed for you. Trouble, which is Neo is not a difficult game to
finish. I don't want to spoil the ending, but did they get out
of trouble? They get out of one specific type of trouble, but they
get into a bunch of trouble that sounds just like them. The Animeo Taku
which that I played as, which is that's literally how she has build that's
not me making that up. The astrology, Yeah, she's the genius astrologist.
She is naked at the end. You don't see anything, but she's
got a wand that transforms her into stuff. But haha, it makes her
naked for a split second, and that's the wacky fun. I shouldn't have
spoiled the really, I'm really sorry, all right, I'll cut that part
out. I'm really sorry for for spoiling there. There are multitude of characters.
That's just one of them. I'm sure. Wasn't that like fifteen bucks?
They charge like way too much money for Trouble. I don't know how
much it is, but yes, they charge way too much money for trouble,
which is got it. It's a fun name to say trouble, which
is neo it really is. How about how about nin nin jump? Is
that fun? I was a little disappointed that that that's how you said it
after seeing the way that they were spelling it out, like I think that's
the way to go. Yeah, nin squared jump, would sir? I
was just thinking nin't too jump, even though I realize you're right it is.
It is a little squared too. Yeah. I bought that after that
quick. Look, that's right, that's okay, speaking of speaking of gays
will probably never play again. That's five dollars. It's five dollars. That's
bus that goes to Japan release. So that's pretty awesome. Yeah, but
but as a game, you're saying that's I don't think it's trying to be
any more than one puts up. But you're like a you're a puppet on
a stick, really not a real ninja puppet on a stick. Yeah,
it's just a nin Yeah, you jump, you get the job part you
jump, and also, uh, you get a grappling hook. It sounds
like what Outland was missing. And bring these two games together how a party?
Another game doesn't need a grappling alive other ways to get around? Oh
I finished The Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Uh Da Vinci's disappearance DLC, and uh,
I disappointed. What a surprise after that Stellarsath Creed to DLC a little
bit of a but it seemed like so much was learned earned in Assassins Creed
Brotherhood about just the basic kind of game play systems that weren't as appreciated in
two. I had hoped, I guess, much as I had hoped with
you know, a fall Out New Vegas, that the DALC there would be
better, But that first pack was pretty garbage for New Vegas. After the
DALC and Assassins Too, wasn't that great? I was? I just sort
of wrote off, damn uh, it's I mean, it's it's stronger,
like, it's much more story focused, but it's it's sort of like,
at a certain point, how much impact can you have because the stuff is
happening. Yeah, Plus they assume I'm going to get an annualized Assassin's Creed
anyway, so I really don't need to extend my Assassin's Creed experience. You
need to be playing Assassins Creed games all the time, which you could be
if you were playing the multiplayer there. You know, they've definitely extended the
hell out of that part. But if you're just going for the single player
stuff, I don't know, it's it. It still manages to I feel
like, uh, fall prey to the stuff that was at least enjoyable about
Brotherhood. Just too much, too much automatic fail stuff, too much just
having to just very strict conditions for how you can complete stuff, which I
felt they had really really done a great job in Brotherhood of addressing with the
you know, the the sinc percentage completion thing where it's like, well,
you know, if you don't kill any other dudes, you'll get one hundred,
but if you may, if you you know, accidentally kill some of
these other dudes in addition to the main dudes you try to kill, will
still let you slide through. We're just not gonna give you a hund percent
completion. Does it kind kind of feel like other Brods and brother where you
could clearly set other teams were working on this part, Like, does it
feel like the DLC was like, man, this is made by the Yeah,
maybe the teams. Maybe this might be the Desmond stuff and Brotherhood,
like this might be the B team stuff. Maybe Uh, I could talk
I guess a little bit about the New Day Sex game. What I saw
of the game being played. What colors did you see? Black? And
gold? Black? Smot of color? He's got a point, he got
it there. Gold. Okay, all I saw was gold. It's like
gold. And then I saw the absence of gold blacks all the colors?
Is that right? Why doesn't bend? He bend white? And then you
get all the colors right, But it's no bending black and you push the
mind, push the explode button and get all the colors? Venus? What
would happen? She blew up Venus. I don't have a lot to say
about the New Day sex game. Do you know you could cook a pizza
on the surface of Venus and like less than ten seconds? That sounds awesome,
But you would also we get it back. You would be cooked too.
I would be in a space suit anti Venus space suits. I'm gonna
eat the pizza that I would take the pizza away? How would be How
would we get the Venus in the first place? Pizza space ship? Couldn't
you just stick the pizza out the window of your space ship if you're near
Venus and get the same results to fold in space? Do I need to
be You're still getting radiation getting Wait, is this like microwave of pizzas?
I don't want to I want real pizza. I don't know what sort of
pizza we're talking about here? Are we talking like a real but like are
we talking like a restaurant went up there and just like spun one some bagel
bites. We're talking little Caesars pizza, pizza, shitty pizza? Why am
I taking that to space? Rectangular pizza? You see, if you can
make shitty pizza, stop by space? What if this pizza was prepared in
space? You can stop by and pick up ready to bake or whatever they
call it. That's hot and ready to radiate, is what the signs say?
Yes, but between four hours, that's four venus hours, they guarantee
that they will have these pizzas available to you. It seems like a really
bad use of space technology. That's like what the fuck house isn't ask going
to do? Like they only got like a couple more flights left, fuck
itt pizzas, flat science. We gave them good reasons for us to go
to space. They didn't like that. So yeah, because we're filming a
reality television show, now, can we have our money? Yeah? Little
yes, it's willing to subsidize. Pizza is going into space. It's getting
on Caesar one, flying out to Venus. It's gonna make some crazy bread.
We gotta figure out a way to make pizza's viable for space. Yea
space pizzas pizza people are gonna be eating food and space. We gotta make
sure that pizza is one of the main films food they're gonna eat. We
need to get a toehold here. How do you keep the toppings from floating
off of the pizza four bakes? Like? What sort of fundamental changes are
we gonna have to make said pizza and adhesive to keep all the oven the
travels around the edge of a centrifuge and then everything state flat. What you
need is circular, self contained pizza, a pizza sphere, or like a
pizza two. It would be the do just mind just broken a pizza sphere.
The problem with that, though, is is then you have all you
have. You have to get an outside piece that is exactly uh proportionally as
you go the middle. The real problem with the pizza spear is that the
delivery drivers fucking like foil bags are not meant to hold balls. They're mental
flat objects. That's true, So you you know you need some because there's
say point one, we're talking Little Caesars. They don't deliver. They do,
they totally do. You're gonna you're gonna need some kind of a custom
entry apparatus to hold spears. Does that? Does the Little Caesars and pedal
Uoman deliver? Pretty sure? Why would I get that shitty pizza delivered?
It's gonna pay them to bring that shitty pizza to my house. The only
reason I'm get that shitty pizza is if I'm nearby, because it's it's just
the right now. I want pizza right now, and I continue to hate
myself, then yes I will go. And I have five dollars, Yes
I will go to the Little Caesar. I'm just saying, a pizza sphere,
in my mind is about the size of a basketball. That's probably way
too big. Couldn't you just like make a cow zone? And then I
think you'd have to individually you could if you want individual pizza balls, you
want personal pizza balls would be like, you know, equivalent of a slice
his party ball, but pizza. So then then you just get like a
box of pizza balls. Those are. Probably it just comes to like dipping
sauce, and it's like, that's not even the same thing. I want
the equivalent of a pizza, but a ball. You want the personal pan
and pizza sphere. I want personal. What I'm saying is the impersonal pockets
are space food. Is basically what I'm trying to get out of here is
that they've already invented the perfect space food in its hot pockets and dipping dots.
They already they already won the race with the dippin' dots and hot pockets.
I scream the future invest now, man, these cookies made everyone fucking
crazy. I didn't even eat these. You can sure cookie pizza cookies,
Sure pizza pizza cookies, pizza cookies. Those they sell the pizzas that come
with cookies in the box. Disturb that part. That's a really disturbing trend
that I bet the cookies are inside the pizza. Lazy shit, you're gonna
mic You're gonna put your your dinner into the oven and eat yourself the others
already hot. Dumb Are you saying it's an unbaked pizza with unbaked cookie?
Dope, Ye're not pre cooked cookies. No, it's it's doing as do
they cook at the same time. I think you probably have to do it
separate. You wouldn't want to do it the same time because then the cookies
would not be as fresh when you were done. Also, the cookies would
then smell like pizza. You wouldn't want that. No, okay, because
I just got done eating that whole pizza. I need I will change clean
space pizza space pizza. When when archaeologists of the future excavate our our adobe
dwellings and they find stuff, They're gonna this will be sperimental pizza. I'm
working on the will. They will mark the pizza and cookie package at the
beginning of the fall of our society. So clear, this is this is
where this is it started going back. This is the inflection point at science
is food technology. It's got to be somewhere DLC yeah, L see it's
actually they stuff cookie dough into the crust of the pizza. Pizza. But
you got a cookie dough in there? Wait, why stuff it in the
crust, Just make the crust cookie see Averytrare. Science seems like a very
anti food company. It seems food seems very inefficient Yeah, for the way
a science does business, they would want to cut the whole, even if
they're using humans, because you know, there's plenty of those around and they're
cheaper to produce food gas, food pill. Yeah, but it would be
worse. It would be It would be Yeah, food pill is too easy,
food gas, food injections. Breathe. It's gonna be something, Yeah,
it's got to be something that is complete, completely contrary to the way
you would actually like food. Miss that makes all your skin feel like you
just ate a pizza sphere exactly exactly, food gel that you rub like your
massage into your scalp, food socks you wear special socks and then gets the
food into that gets the that activates the food in the food socks, and
it seeps in through your feet and you still taste it in your mouth,
but it's also combined with your feet smell and taste your feet. Would would
they smell like pizza at the end of the day, it smell like your
feet and also with pizza or I guess more like pizza spheares, because they
wouldn't they wouldn't actually try and emulate real pizza. They would try and emulate
future pizza fire, but you'd still taste all of it on your in your
mouth. I think the pizza spear would have to have an inner crust.
You would have an outer crust and then an inner crust. I think that's
why you gotta go tube, not sphere. I think sphere is impractical.
Like if you're like a burrito, Yeah, pizza tubes, pizza tubes,
pizza burritozz get better. Yeah, you can send it through those spacey tubes
too. Pizones, I guess is what I'm talking about. It's always what
I'm talking about, pre back to quality products like pizones. I do not
mean here to bring it back around to DSX. You know what I mean
to short change this game. It's futuristic because it's futuristic, and I'm sure
people what are they eating that game? People are gels like like black and
gold, honey, honey and licorice. Okay, it's very specific future.
The first two things came to mind. I like it because I mean that
game seems like it makes good, like very specifically on like how the first
das X games That is actually my favorite game, which which I know people
are are deep deep into. Yeah, and also not so much in the
second one at all. Well, I remember at a GDC presentation the guy
was basically like, so the first one was amazing, this one was a
giant piece of shit. So like, I don't know how this everyone's gonna
turn out, but you got the right philosophy. Apparently they told us to
be three last year when they took this project on, Like everybody on the
entire team sat down and played through the first one, whether they had played
it before or not. Don't touch the second one even, don't even have
that knowledge seep into your brain. So this, I mean, this was
a prequel. This is this is all taking place before the first game,
so uh like the I guess kind of esthetically, the tech that you're using
feels like it's it's mechanical, like you haven't gotten to the nano state of
the of the first game. So there's a lot of like limb replacement and
stuff. Yeah, all that stuff happening sort of in the story as you're
as you're playing right like like in like twenty or thirty years, all of
that stuff will be status quo, but they're still at kind of like what
we're doing, you know, biomechanical sort of you know, trying, yeah,
trying to have like better limbs by just get completely replacing limbs or different
body parts and crazy futuristic so I could get better limbs, I would do
it. Uh. If they said we want to cut off your right arm
and put on a better right arm, I would totally let them. Don't
ask for any specifics. It's like it'll be better. How about how about
how about a pizza What if they gave you a pizza pizza arm. Your
arms now made a pizza, but it always regenerates. Okay, all right,
if it was a regenerate a pizza arm, then yeah, okay,
oh my god, different flavors everything. Oh man, I don't know if
I could, as long as I have control over the flavor. I'm growing
some sausage. They're great, it's great stuffs sauce, And I want you
to have a pizza arm. Then I guess I won't play this bad bad
for the workplaces. So they showed to me a very specific scenario being played
through where you you're kind of you're approaching this facility and you need to figure
out what was going on in this in this facility and kind of who the
bad guys were, and it's very much the you can go in guns blazing,
or you can you know, use your stealth to do depending on how
your character respect to to kind of you know, sneak around. But it's
all very like, okay, activate my stealth, and while my salth is
activated, this meter is running down like it's it still feels it feels the
way that games don't feel anymore, uh, particularly kind of like choice,
how well, how fucking hard ass Like old PC games pcrpgs specifically used to
be about implementing their crazy rule sets of Okay, if you want to do
this, like you're only gonna have like there's real risk of if you don't
do this correctly or you know, mismanage your powers. You're gonna in the
middle of this you know this this open uh you know courtyard and in this
in this compound where there's three levels of dudes on catwalks around you with guns
where if they see you, they're just going to smoke you on site.
So like in the in the playthrough that I was shown, you know,
this guy actually doing it, he had to be very measured with all that
stuff, and there was a lot of like, okay, I'm just gonna
wait here for that dude to complete his uh, you know, his his
little kind of guard cycles, a little century cycle. So once he comes
back here, I'll know that this other dude is in this other location and
I can use like my non lethal thing to taze him and and that'll keep
me you know, non lethal aligned and all that kind of stuff. You
could get away with that more on PC games because he had quick save and
quick load, so it wasn't as much of a risk when you were trying
to do things like like console games don't have that, yeah, as much.
I don't believe this game will have that. I believe this game will
be very check pointed. Yeah. So yeah, so, like you know,
he was, he was showing these areas and it seemed pretty clear that
okay, yeah, the path he took was kind of the stealth path,
and he as he looked back, he could kind of see like, oh,
if if I was, you know, gonna go more guns blazing,
this would probably be the way I would go. And you know, the
reasons for that seemed clear, and even there being like multiple stealth paths,
but it seemed very much like either you're gonna go whole hog into being stealth
dude, or you're gonna go the other way. And then there's like kind
of you know, peripheral alignment stuff as far as like, well, you
know I'm gonna be big into well, I guess the two other The two
other things are hacking, which is you know, basically like lock picking and
stuff like that, and conversation. But the conversation stuff seems like you're like
you can avoid some fights, but it's the stealth and the combat stuff you
will always need to like kind of have on hit right, because there will
It's not a game where you can get through entirely just by speech, which
I actually asked and I was a little bummed to find out that I could
not literally just talk my way through this game, because I would love to
see a game that took its RPG element that seriously, that was able to
take it to that extreme and let you literally just dialogue tree your way.
Probably my favorite thing about the ending of New Vegas, right you can just
being able to see your way. Yeah. Type RPGs are more about the
role playing. The fighting like the sex traditionally is a lot a shooter like
it was playing is when you're in combat or stealth, Like the role playing
is the character you've rolled or created. You know, it came out of
the first person shooter community. I mean, if you had left out the
names there through what you were just describing, you could have plugged in Alpha
protocol. Yeah, it was totally the conversation to do everything you just said.
And so I'm kind of worried about everything you just said about the sex.
I guess what if alph protocol was good? Like, what if the
protocol definitely had a lot of really cool things right in it? What if
they made a good game out of the great great Alpha Protocol that would be
awesome. This this definitely seems like it is. It is focused on hitting
those notes from that first game as far as kind of the gameplay pacing.
And you know, I didn't see the dude fuck up too much, So
I can't speak to necessarily to the the level of punishment that will actually be
meted out when that game comes out. But it seemed like it was.
It seemed like it was it was it was pretty harsh about that stuff,
or it was it was implied that it could be pretty harsh about that stuff.
Let's say the only thing that really stuck out at me was that there
was like some generally good voice acting that was undercut by some really terrible voice
acting. I would be like right in the middle of it. And so
this game is made in French Canadian, yes, and that shows in the
voice acting where someone will have a pretty good like let's say there's a character
he's supposed to be like a street dealer, and he's got a pretty good
patois for that character until he gets to a certain point where maybe it's like
a whole word or just a syllable in a word. Uh, you know,
the maybe in their version of the not quite as far Flowing Future,
everyone is French Canadian. Well that would that would help the fiction. Yeah,
that would help the believability of certain accent squaw where you can hear exactly
it's inference in this timeline Quebec the exactly. Uh So that that's stuck with
me oddly. It was one of the first things that happens in the demos.
You talk to a dude and he's kind of you know, rapping at
you until a certain point where where it all breaks down. Yeah. Uh
yeah, That's all I have to say about sex A lot of that game
is playing it, So I think a lot of that world be more born
out of absolutely. I mean, yeah, they kept on, they kept
on really emphasizing, you know, the action RPG elements of it, and
it is being in that moment and it it seems cool, like it's it
seems uh natural, like something part of it, like there's there's elements of
the way the world is set up that's like, Okay, this is you
have laid this out in order to create proper contrivances for all of the kind
of the spectrum of variances that you can have and in the way your character
is developed. But then once you actually get into those scenarios or at least
kind of the way scenarios can develop as you go, uh still seems very
natural, like you know, how how enemies will react to your presence in
certain uh you know scenarios and like where you are, Like if you take
down a guard and then leave that guard in plain sight, if another guard
has a path that you know crosses that what that can mean for you and
and taking it to that level of depth like that that can make it seem
very uh uh not procedural, but uh, you know it kind of evolutionary
like it cold. It can just kind of come out of the play of
the game. So we'll see how that actually bears out when that game is
finished, which I think it's gonna be pretty soon. Hm. So come
for us some body moving in it. You have to do some moving of
dudes. I mean you can dance, No, yeah you can. Yeah.
There's some stuff with stealth missions in that where it's just kind of clunky
old mechanics. So it's like, here's a fat stealth meter on the screen.
You should probably make sure it doesn't fill up and then move bodies after
you kill them. Yeah, you're still going through that campaign. It's it's
not I've not finished it, but Steve, I don't think I will.
It's it's not fun. Not that so Calm has ever been about. It's
a single player campaign. But that's all right now. So yeah, poor,
poor poor socom. Let's move to news, gents and Patrick Kleppick.
What's the current PlayStation network news? Shit still broke? Great? Getting next?
It's coming, It's coming back apparently sometimes this week in scattered segments they
haven't. They they had a bullpoint list of things they're bringing back, which
starts with online multiplayer, but when that happens, it's it's really tough to
say. They just said this week, maybe pretty safe to assume it'll be
a firm More update alongside there's a firm More update that we'll force you to
change your password. They did disclose at a press conference in Tokyo that uh
ten million credit cards were potentially it's supposed, but they cannot still confirm whether
the information was actually taken. So that ten million random accounts out of that
seventy whatever million, they don't seem to know. They're just at least the
information we have is just that that ten million potentially exposed of these seventy seven
but they said it was seventy seven million total accounts, but like thirty five
million master accounts. The number is so I don't know that that would make
sense given that the seventy seven is a bloated number for what is actual use
three accounts. Seventy seven just some more impressive number they use in their press
releases. It's not at all these Yeah, it's kind of it's kind of
backfired, and this in this situation doesn't help that Sony Online Entertainment got hit
two it was the same San Diego data facility, so presumably the same attacks
and so so this this has to be like several weeks after the initial PSCENT
attacks, right or is this or are they just scrubbing back through. No,
it sounds like they're just scrubbing back and realized in addition to the sense
stuff. Oh shit. Also, Tony a Laner tam it's a twenty six
million accounts. In that case, almost thirteen thousand credit cards were exposed,
but it was from a two thousand and seven database, so twenty four point
six twenty four point six, but only but just under thirteen thousand credit or
debit cards were exposed, but only nine hundred are still active because it's from
an old database and they're not from the US. So it was thirteen thousand
none US credit cards, most of which were expired. Yes, so only
nine hundred potentially Yes, awful. Nice something to keep that stuff around.
Yeah, just in case, Yeah, just in case case you every want
to call us a week and be like, yo, well credit card from
two thousand and seven. I just want to know we live in the good
old days of credit before it was really bad. Well, you had a
diners club card and uh the number was seven. Tellis request player. He
was dead in two thousand seven. You can repeat at the request. But
like, what kind of pizza we're talking about? It? Get you take
in slash pizza? I think Dominoes. Okay, that was? That was
ever Quests pizza. That was like fantasy pizza. I want space pizza.
That was I got to load a planet side pizza. I'm sure that was
Pizza Hut. Also, yeah, pizzas. Was there a slash Pizone?
What's the difference between the Pi zone and a cow zone? Somebody please clarify
size pizone is a branded Pizza Hut product. That is their version of a
cow zone, right, shittier? Well, that's really implicit in the right.
It's you know, it's a friendlier for handheld eating than a cow zone.
Maybe the Pizza Hut near us closed went out of business. That happened.
That's pizza places go out of business. Apparently, there's no I can't
get a pizone, No in my in my neck of the drive to get
a PI Zone, I'm not and even to get dicey at best. But
actually the Little Caesars opened up basically next door to where the pizza hut was,
so same owners. Hopefully, hopefully water goes in, water goes out.
Yeah, we have to stop talking about food. Little Caesar closes the
door and opens the window. Let's let's let's move on. Okay, what
do we always why do we always recorded the thing right around meal time or
like it's really no other all the way because because it's always meals away all
the way through and pass either lunch or dinner time. Uh Patrick, what
else is going on in the world of news. We've got deal call it
deals he packs. We've got names for these all now past I don't have
those in front of money honest honest hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road
can They said none of them will do the broken Steel staff, so it's
all They confirmed that, Yeah, it's none of it. Will continue to
pass the original campaign, even though the last one that comes out in July
is ties sort of back into the main campaign store with the platinum chip and
couriers. But in every case you're gonna have to load up an old save
let them not save. You get five, the level cap will get raised
fifty because you get like I have extra levels for each DLC, I think,
I think, but I think you can in the options you can like
hard, you can hard cap it if you like want to artificially increase the
difficulty, but then you won't get the extra traits. Yeah, I don't
know. I don't know why they won't just let you keep saying so we
had they didn't. That story does not end in a way that they couldn't
just let you keep going like that. I always thought that was going to
be the justification was, Oh, the story will conclude in such a manner
that it's not feasible for them to let you keep going, And it's it's
completely feasible to let you keep going at the end of that game. I
wonder if that's in every ending, though they're probably some endings that maybe leave
it as open as there's some endings definitely a word. I think I've seen
most of the endings for for New Vegas. Indeed, some of them are
more fun with with it, like if you kept seeing the world after that
ending point, because there are there's some kind of deliberately ut vague ending cops
everywhere on the strip, like what's that actually? I mean, they could
have contrived it in some way other than the clunky go load of previous say,
there's always a way to continue the game. I mean just had just
like, look, man, this takes place. These are separate stories.
The DLC is not connected to it just loaded up from the side menu and
you load up an old save that just loads in your character as or even
or even here is what you had when you finished the game, all right,
because it's so clunky. How Yeah, you get like the little radio
signals and file that location and you go into a little rabbit hole and it
somewhere you off somewhere completely different. I will say so last week we had
a couple of Obsidian dudes in the office to give us a lengthy quick look
at Dungeon Siege three, and I will say that some of the most interesting
conversation I had with those dudes was the difference between working with someone else's old,
old, old, old old technology and running on your new custom built
engine. Uh, like what difference that makes to the game development process?
And or was that just them saying, dude, dungeons each three is gonna
be awesome. Uh? That was that was part of the implication. Yeah,
But also, uh, we're speaking fairly frankly about about some some issues
with the same week that a patch came out for New Vegas that you had
declined while they made another patch for the patch for the patch yep, and
and you know those are those are problems that have plagued fall Out since Fallout
three first came out like that. You can't. I hope Skyrim is good.
It's pretty awesome. It wouldn't it be messed up if Skyrim came out
and just had like all of these same or a lot of these same sorts
of issues. There's there's still more wind code still just like well, we
built a new renderer, but it's still I really think that they have.
Yeah, hope. I'm not sure people are going to give them a whole
lot Like, yeah, I think you're right. First Gambrio was the renderer
that's going Okay, there is no as far as I can tell, there's
no third party stuff in this. They have written basically everything themselves. I
hope, but I mean, I hope, I hope that game comes together.
We've really taken criticisms about like the conversation and stuff to heart, and
hopefully it's even less. That's just like you know, like getting stuck in
a pit when you're walking across the world. I mean, I feel like
a game of that, any game of that caliber of breadth, you have
to expect there to be some rough spots like yeah, but this is you
can either go deep like you can't do both. You know, the same
thing was making an excuse. I mean it's the same thing with every open
world game, like even of the GTA variety. But that's the games are
more broken than those other games. Those games are like, oh, you're
save is on fire and all end all this companion that you thought that you
were gonna be able to talk to now just just gonna run into this wall.
And it's not just like because the world is so open that it causes
these fundamental In that case, it's it's that the character's potential behaviors are so
varied, Like there's so many different things. What is in key for everything
to be broken? Where is it? It's in the scenario where I think
they just barely get by with it because they make like these bigger and more
dynamic worlds than anybody. No, nobody's come along and done it better.
I agree with you. No, it is what I'm saying. I agree
with you that no one has has come along and done it better. But
the downside is so significant. But I feel like, like for me,
it was New Vegas was the point where I was like, all right,
I'm kind of done. Yeah, like putting up with I'm sure everybody has
their individual breaking point, but like up to now, like, if you
want that kind of experience, that's the only place to get it. Yeah,
And I'm just I hope that Skyrim. I mean, obviously it won't
be perfect, it'll have some issue somewhere, but god, just better.
I'm excited. I'm excited for Dungeon C's three. Yeah, yeah, what's
up with that game? That's It's like, it's a Dunget Crawler. Do
you decide at some point to replace your body parts with parts of goblins?
Decide if you want to be fully human or fully dungeoned out. I can't
speak to that point just yet. I haven't gotten there. That did not
just take the Space Siege Mechanic and oh god game, Oh no, no,
no, no, this game is all about fucking crazy loots that was
made by different company? Was it? That was actually gay? It was
the last game they made before They're like whoa, we should make these games.
Yeah. No, this is actually made by Obsidian, uh, published
by Square Annex, which is weird because it is a gas power that's still
weird. It was all the faculty stuff that still weird, still idols now
or whatever. It's still just really weird. Effectively effectively, yeah, I
don't know. I played it on three sixty. I like a good dungeon
crawler. It seems like it is that. Uh. The quality of the
riding seems up to Obsidian snuff, which for me, like for for all
of the busted stuff that has been in their busted ass games, the writing
has always been pretty consistently great in Obsidian products. Because I don't know anything
about the dungeon sie story world still watched In the Name of the King,
You'll be all cut up, boom, you're all You're all good. Uh.
You know it's it's kind of typical fantasy with some steam punky shit in
it now, because you can't have you can't have fantasy without some sci fi
in it. At this point, you're ever you're allowed to have guns,
regardless of if it's supposed to be medieval times or not. Uh. Basically,
what that comes down to but yeah, the quality of the writing,
what little of it even that I saw during the recording of that lengthy,
lengthy quick look, Uh, seemed seemed really good and reminded me of the
stuff that I really enjoyed and and why I put up with as much of
New Vegas as bullshit as I did was because of the quality of the character
work in the writing. So they can keep that up in Dungeon Seas three,
I will be a happy camper. Uh. Battle Los Angeles coming to
Blue Ray. If you buy that ship, you'll get into the Resistance three
multiplayer demo. Wait, isn't it on the No, it's a single player.
Yeah, it's like an actual demo. It's like the boat level.
That's that's like on the disc, isn't it, Yes, the level.
Yeah, it's totally different. That is completely all right, let's start this
over then, Battle Los Angeles out on Blu Ray comes with Resistance three single
player demo. Yeah, the boat level, the one that I think they
showed that at three years in a trailer or I don't. I don't remember.
No boat they're showing boat stuff. Asks me anything about Resistance three,
I remember, gas station asks me anything about Resistance too. All right,
I don't know any versus too. What's up wasn't very good? Guys,
there's eat the bad. What's up with the alien the bad guys? Yes,
great, they're infecting wins, they're infecting regular dudes. Congratulations, you
get to review. Oh man, I really don't say. They've got the
single player demo and then also purchasers have so calm for get into the multiplayer
beta for sure. Du Listance three at some point about Resistance, I like,
the first one, okay, is a launch game. The second one
was just awful. I beat it. The story didn't make any sense,
especially because they hid all the story elements and collectibles because that was cool.
I mean you literally did not understand the story unless you read the hidden collectible
bullshit. Like like even the main story arc did not make any sense.
I remember I found one by accident. I was like, oh, that
man that makes the last four levels, Like okay, sure they seem they
seem like they're really taking their time with this one. It looks good from
what I say, plenty of crow over and like it's like, yeah,
our production proba you play the PSP game. Yeah, Well, I'm talking
about a real first shooter developed by Insomniacs, that that PSP game is a
total offshoot, right, it was kind of okay for what it was.
It was not bad. Yeah, that was. It wasn't a Sony Bend
it was. It was. I think they're doing the new one too.
The MGP makes sense, Yes, that's because I want to play those games.
Unapportable. I thought I saw that. I thought. I think I
remember hearing that that Sony Bend was were doing Resistance also on that GP.
Wait, you mean I'm sorry uncharted? Possibly, Yeah, it's not it's
not sure. Yeah, I wonder I want to say I heard that too.
Maybe maybe they have become a two game studio. I don't know.
So Battle Los Angeles isn't very good, right, No, I didn't.
I love me some Independence Day, I love Aliens. It's not good.
It's not worth, not worth taking the bullet on buying on buying Battle Los
Angeles, trying to actually tell a friend that the movie is really good,
see if they'll like the bullet And you're saying, can someone else into buying
it? And then jack their disks a pizza from Netflix or something. It
sounds like a long con here, that version probably won't make it onto the
Netflix version. The last disc that I got from Netflix back in January.
Uh huh. Keeping my Netflix que nice and I've had I've had my last
disc for a year. I have my discs are about two years old.
I just sent back that copy of green Zone, and I think there's a
copy of Windy City Heat sitting in my mailbox for like the last four days.
I never want to watch You're your monthly check in on our shitty Netflix
cues. I busted my account down to one disc about six months ago.
I still have the three discs that I had before that. That's bad.
Don't they eventually charge you for just having those discs out? They're pretty lenient
on that check man, Alex. Alex told me that they just simply wouldn't
send you anything until you sent them all back, So all right, don't
send them back. And I'm never gonna watch Benjamin Button ever, So I
should probably streaming in your stream such more efficient method of putting shit into your
streaming que and then never watching it there. I think all three of them
are on the streaming and never having to even take them at the discs sent
to you. You can just pretend like you're going to watch The Sting and
two thousand and one and Dog Day Afternoon Forever. Although if it's it's a
star's play version of the movie, then it might as well not be on
there at SD. That one is a Benjamin button. It is most new
stuff is there'ld be portal two deals. See sorry about three DS AAR code
tattoos and what a bad idea. That is such a terrible idea, But
you know it's a good idea. Was doing that in an impermanent marker based
fashion on your skin and see if you can get that to work. Yeah,
that's that's a better ideas. It's an okay idea. When we first
got the three DS, me and I Vinnie went around like photocopying the AR
cards to see if we could just bootleg them and yeah, totally even a
black and white photocopy of the questions a pattern something like that. Yeah,
it didn't work as well as the actual cards and we could barely We couldn't
really get it to read off of a picturephone screen. Okay, yeah,
I would flick it, would like, would read it for a second and
be like nope, it's gone. Like Okay, No it's back. No,
it's gone. So it's just it's very specific about the angle that they
could view it from. Yeah, couldn't get it to read off an iPhone
screen very well at all. Don't get, don't get air codes, don't
get QR codes tattooed on you, don't get, don't get, don't get
tattoos. Just come on, it's it's ridiculous. It's really cool stuff.
That's okay. If you get really like R, yeah, like a really
cool QR code. Then when you take a picture of it, Pizza takes
you pizza photo of one of those snake eyes storm shadow tattoos. I'll get
a tattoo of a tattoo Silk silkind Knights is going to keep making to get
a tattoo of a bicep with a tattoo on it. Yeah, No,
I'm gonna get a tattoo of a bicep with a QR code on it.
When you take a picture of that QR code, it loads up a photo
of a bicep with a tattoo on it. Right, And then when you
scan it in you get portal two free DLC a week. You scan that
in, you get ten percent off of a bicep tattoo. Yes, and
you get a phone number for a BBS. It's a Valve open a tattoo
parlor, is what you're saying. Basically, Yeah, Okay, sil Kind
Nights is gonna keep making two human games. Wait, we're still not going
to talk about the portals. Oh what we did? It's guess it will
be three di didn' they say there was gonna be some single player stuff they
like challenge and leaderboards, and then there was an ambiguous and more. Well,
so I'll be curiously if they find any narrative even yeah, I mean
even the co op has plenty of voiceover and stuff. My question is,
yeah, will there be any new views? Like? My guess is that
yeah. They're probably more more ambitious than portals because it's there's still a live
stuff wasn't even made by Valve. That's was that was the two D portal
levels that made from very it enter three D portal levels and just they charged
for it on XPLA. They're not going to continue to whom I call bullshit
on that they intend to because they have a lawsuit going intends to do a
lot of things. It sounds like they wish they could or something, you
know, I wish they would. I would love to see them continue the
Too Human trilogy. Would you love to play another two Human if they fixed
it? Yeah? Maybe? Sure? To Human wasn't the worst thing I've
ever played. It just was a game with significant issues that made it not
fun worth playing in this day and age for any reason whatsoever. No,
No, don't really. I mean, if you can get it for really
cheap, I bought it. I don't. People make the argument for co
op being is that good, mildly fun? But the inventory management is apparently
inventory management nightmare. Oh, And I will say that against Days X is
that they tried treating inventory management as a positive bullet point in that game,
And I don't. I don't care if you're going for old school flavor because
you had to do the puzzle stuff in the original day Sax, we rotating
your weapons and your items to try and fit everything. That's I don't want
to do that. Yes, sighting like inventory management as anything other than we
got rid of it as as a bullet point on your power point. I
just remember talking to Dennis Dyak about like what his favorite character class was,
and he said it's not in the game yet, that's right. And about
the first, the first one, it was gonna be like it was gonna
be like it was like it or maybe it was gonna end up in DLC
or something like that. But you know, none of that ever happened.
And I have to know, just give us a shout, you have to
know, tell us what you had in mind for two human it's good doing
a his trilogies before the first one does well. It always works out nicely.
So wait, why is there a story about True Crime getting canceled?
When True Crime got canceled a while ago. Oh, that was just the
last bits from my memos. So there was one Eric Herstberg, one of
the he's the guy that sort of pulled the plug on it and he just
had tom like rather than like the builder plate like, yo, the game
wasn't gonna be good. Like he actually made sort of a heartfelt sort of
explanation about why he chose to pull the plug. It was interesting. Yeah,
it was like a you know, kind of a human side. Yeah.
Yeah, Like there was one quote from Thomas Tibo was like the CEO
and that was the standard. Like, yeah, the game was over budget
and it wasn't before him and then Mark place in this competitive open world genre,
which is basically like it wasn't gonna be any better than GTA five whenever
that comes out, and the other guy tried to make a little more of
a nuanced description of it. But the game had been delayed significantly twice,
and the budget was crazy, and the way the way it was crazy about
the game got canceled. It was like when I was at DGM, we
had a writer go up and see it, yeah, like weeks before,
and then I know producers that were working on that game that had just flown
back from working on that game, and I was the one that delivered the
news like, hey, your game got canceled, Like what, Like,
oh, all right, I gotta go, Like it sounded very last minute
to just get like a balance sheet adjusted. I mean, I remember when
they announced that game and first showed it. You went, Ryan, yeah,
and I remember you're coming back going like, yeah, now they shouldn't
they shouldn't make this game. I was frankly fucking relieved when I when they
finally acted it. I was like, Oh, they should have done that
sooner, because they had already by the time they shoot it to us.
They talking about how we had already changed a lot based on feedback that we
got from early builds, and you know, this was gonna bet you were
off the rails. It's like your first president is used as a way to
change and it was the first time it was being shown to us. Was
this was this was like the big reveal for Hey, we're making a new
true true time game. Why are you making a new look? That?
That was my franchise. That was my exploratory job, was why are you
doing this? What the first game had like some interesting ideas. The second
game was nothing. Streets of La was the first one. Yeah, Streets
of La was the first one, and I had that West Side Connection song
in it before that album was out, and everything was the only good thing
about No No, also all cursing in all of the raps. True.
Yes, the soundtrack was uncensored. That was a revolutionary at the time.
Yeah, absolutely, And you know they did they did their their part in
trying to map it. After Real La, you could, you know,
drive past the Staple Center and like and there's no traffic anywhere. Ever.
It's right, there's there's no traffic anywhere ever. So it's true to life
in that regard. Yeah. Yeah, the first game had like those hooks
as interesting ideas. But then I just never understood why, like why bring
back true crime other than like, hey, we want to make an open
world game. You know what brands do we have in the garbage that we
could slap on it? You know, really bring back the warm feelings everyone
had for a true crime And also you know, it's also the thing of
like all this stuff brought back exactly the same feelings that I had about True
Crime previously. It's just like, why would you do this? Oh wait,
you're you're you don't want to go all the way and have you play
as a criminal, So you're gonna make it so you play as a cop.
Who made the true crime games? That was? Yeah, it was
Lucks of Flux. Yeah, no, that's right. In the early like
days of the first True Crime game, you were not a cop at all,
Right, yeah, I think so. And then they and then they
switched it. They're like, you're gonna be a cop because we realize we
don't have the guts to have this big cop killing game out here. We're
a public public a company, and you know, we don't want the heat
rock Star can can so call that up on their own. Indeed, that's
all I got for news anything else, Patrick, that you'll let us know
when PlayStation Network comes back up and ship is now broke. I just I
don't know that that I'll ever be the case at this point. What if
it was what if it was fixed? While we've been in here and I'm
gonna check. I've been looking, I've been checking on my on my giant
Internet tablet, and you let me use my smaller Internet tablet. Okay,
you let me know what you're Internet tablet says. I think you go to
like what is PSN still down dot com? I don't trust that guy.
I don't trust that that's actually pinging anything. That's just a guy that's gonna
update a page eventually maybe nothing. I got nothing. I've got so so
current, still current excellence. Why don't you go to is is PSN still
down? Still down dot com and check on that We're not going down that
rabbit holes? But only if there's a picture of Chris Remo and Sequila Neli.
Again, the the Cocaine Mountain School of Design is in full effect out
there, and I'm happy to see it having, you know, positive impacts
on the youth. Dumb ass shit. Oh all right, new releases,
let's talk about them. There aren't any great four is that out this week?
That is out this week? Crap liquid entertainment? Yep, what what
else have they done? That's a They started with Battle Realms PCs years and
years like a decade ago. They did the Desperate Housewives. Okay, alright,
yes, and if I'm warming up to this Thoor thing, they start
off with that stuff. They've been just kind of a bad gun for higher
for they did that Jason and the Argonauts game for codemstr All right. Thor
is playable in three D on the Xbox three sixty, so says the box,
which we got in today. So we should probably crack that open and
play it at some point, as I imagine you will hit the fucking dudes
in the face with a hammer over and over again, I should hope.
So right, the back of the WE box says exclusive flight levels. All
fucking thank god. I'm glad we got that version. We got both,
we got three sixty and we got WE so we got WE first, and
I'm like, really, no, I wouldn't have thought that it was the
version box exclusive flight levels. You know you can fly. You wouldn't think
Thor could fly fly. I wouldn't think that Thor could fly. Well,
I don't know anything about Thor other than he's game because I've got those comic
books. Tips off his helmet or whatever. Because of the hammer. The
hammer makes it fly, The hammer makes it hangs on his back. It's
a magic fucking hammer. Dog doesn't like right a pegasis or something. No,
he's just he just hangs under the hammer. That seems a captain caveman.
He just grabs onto the club. And he's not even really like flying
as much as he's just hanging onto the damn hammer and going wherever he wills
the hammer to go. I think if you let's go the hammer, he's
boned. Okay, that kind of gloves, dude, grip that hammer.
He's Thor. Can Thor create a hammer so heavy that not even he can
lift it. Thor can't make hammers. He's not a hammer smith. He's
a god. He's like all powerful. Yeah, he's he's a real god.
He's an elder god. He gets he gets thrown out of asgar to
Rading goes to him and says like, you gotta stop. Guess, I
guess they're kind of equivalence, right, they're just stop making these. Thor
is kind of a thunder godetting bad video games. Yeah, Thor is absolutely
the god of Thunder. Where's the Raiding game? He's a raiding an unlockable
god, and Thor once you fins got exclusive fucking flight levels. Once you
finished Thor, you unlock the raiding skin you played through at a second time.
Right, Not since Unreal Championship two have I been so excited the inclusions
of Yes, exactly. I feel like we've talked too much about Unreal Championship
recently to not go dig up copies of those first two games. The first
two games, there's only two games, Like I was saying that as ever
reboot as my iPad was dying, so I was distracted there, Okay,
I need to charge back up my eyes. Those were Xbox exclusive games,
weren't they? Yes? Yes, yeah, with like a melee focus,
yes, like third person midway published. The second one was like they were
both kind of all right yea, as they were like, well, it's
like the Unreal of that period had you entering like MK fight combos to turn
on where special abilities and shit like they were obviously taking fighting a fighting game
kind of angled to some of that stuff. I went to Epic to see
Unreal Championship too, flew across the country to see that game they made.
They made that internally, Uh, it was being shown there. I don't
know everything. I think they did. Yeah, they totally did. And
there was a bunch of Years for two yes, huh. And there was
a bunch of Gears of War concept are all over the place and I saw
it was like engine and they were like, oh, you shouldn't have seen
that because they had not announced a product back when there was like dark,
I didn't know what it was. I saw the Brewmac and I was like,
oh, that's the thing from the Unreal Tech demo. Yeah, I
wonder what these guys are doing. They're like I used, they hadn't even
announced, like the Gears of War as a as a brand did not exist
at that point. I was just like, huh, that looks interesting,
and they were like forgetting you saw that. I hope they bring back on
Real Tournament at some point. And I feel like I'm like one of seven
people that think they're gonna bring back Unreal anything. I think they should after
I would I would love to see them get back to the deathmatch shooter business.
Yeah, but dude, U T three was such a bath that I
mean maybe even when I play too soon, Maybe they made money on it
eventually, but like that first month or two was krim. I think that's
gonna be a hard sell to Mark Rain to bring back on real tournament after
the inglorious death What do you sell it to me? Like? It was
just because it was it was like, people, are you prepared to buy
five million copies of unreal terment? They could do maybe as a downloadable,
but I don't see how you sell that as a retail products. It's the
time from the style of shooters and even just epics like focus on that style
of game. Point Like at some point, you know it's gonna go circle
back around and be like, all right, we're gonna make Quake five and
they're gonna need to come up with a multiplayer component to that, and hopefully
it'll be what you want out a Quake, I guess, or maybe Quake
three already does that. Yeah. Problem is that like only nether Realms,
like that's the only developer that has maintained any sort of like design team consistency
from Original Incarnation too now like such turnover at like A at Epic or at
any of these other developers. Cliff has been there since jazz Jack Rabbit,
I mean, has been his influence on like Unreal Tournament. It's like,
yeah, he's been there, but he hasn't been the lead. Dude,
they're making the fucking calls. They just man, you just come out the
Unreal Tournament and you put it out. It's the first Unreal Engine four game.
My points, I think you have to have that sort of these ideas.
Yeah, you have to have that sandam into a microphone. That's sort
of insight though. I think you have to have that sort of of context
to have that sort of insight that when you bring it back, you know
what to bring back. I guess yeah. Plus, don't you remember the
story and Unreal Tournament three? Don't you remember? I do? Don't you
lamb field Lattest general latt generators of the field. I really wanted to like
that game. Yeah, they're just they're they're too invested in their gear.
Everything looks like gears. But you know what Unreal Tournament three look like fucking
gears exactly. That's my problem. That's like part of the problem with it.
It's it's not the defining problem of Unreal Tournament three. It's not the
aesthetic. Well, I'm gonna go home and install Unreal Tournament three and play
it with the people who are still playing. What would you like the ballpark?
What number would you say this install of Unreal Tournament three, five or
five or six of fuck this game? Uninstall it? Or you know,
new PC not counting the Xbox three sixty. I just know that there are
like six people somewhere on a server like shooting sniper rifles that make dudes explode
in one shot, and it looks like it's a gigantic bathroom, but you're
really small in it. Well, someone, someone somewhere is continuing level Lord's
great work in in the Unreal engine, and I want to I need to
be there. I need to be there. Moon Diver is supposed to be
out on Xbox Slabber this week. Okay remember that from PSN Yeah a few
weeks back. Yeah, kind of like Strider only four player and way crazy.
Is it any good? It seems okay? I think the four player
thing it kind of makes it too much, makes it a little overwhelming.
I was having more fun with it when I was playing by myself. Vinny
kept hitting the button that was like basically like the spell cast button that came
with this ridiculous animation that made everyone stop what they were doing and watch it.
Yeah. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't have to be that way.
Yeah, but there's some that does have to be that way. It
is because it's it's you know, yeah, it's the unskippable cut scene in
the middle of combat. So let me do this crazy flourish to show everyone
that I'm making you all invincible for five seconds. It's like just fucking making
invisible for five seconds. Let's move on with our lives. That Call of
Duty map pack is out Escalation Escalation, that's right. So it's another new
release sure that has a new zombie scenario in it. YEP play as Sarah
Michelle Geller, Stars of Stage and Screen. George, I love the idea.
I just wish it was not applied to zombies. I want you want
them to go whole hog and just apply it to team death match. Michael
Rooker. Yeah, I want to basically unlock Michael Rooker for death Match.
You just want to be able to get the ice Cube voice pack stuff for
non ice Cube levels. Yeah, if I can just turn that on for
all maps, I want to have at all times spot planes in there.
That's what I wanted to say. All right, I need to grab power
stuff. We're gonna take a break and we'll come back for more podcast recording
here on the Diet Podcast. All right, we're back. Everyone, pick
your cell phones away. No, it's time to talk about some emails.
Emails, emails people would send us emails, Brad Lean, I don't know
if you news already. I've heard rumors to that side BombCast Ajohnbob dot com.
If you want them read on this podcast, this email address that you
send them to. If you send them anywhere else, they're not gonna get
red. I'm gonna get them here, even if you won't even get a
response. No, and you probably won't get a response even if you send
them here, fair enough, because you get just a just a gross amount
of email. You don't even know how much email comes into this email,
gross of emails at no, at least if you discussions one hurls daily like
a lot of email comes into this email address, and a lot of it's
really not good. Some of it's spam, but even stuff, some of
the stuff that's intended to come here. So no, that know that,
like the level of quality is not super high. So you spend a little
bit of time, if you actually think about it a little bit, you
might actually stand a chance of getting read on the air here, unless it's
sandwiched between like five spam messages, in which case I'll just gets deleted and
no one ever sees it. Probably no, because I look at the one
one at a time, okay, heavy, Yeah, No, I delete
all of the Walgreens spam emails. Ah fucking Walgreens, dude. I have
unsubscribed to their newsletter, Like can't you can't? You can't subscribe? Maybe
if we just started reading their deals every week on the podcast, they would,
you know. I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one.
I guess. No, I think it's because it's to all of us.
It's too one of the alias. One of the alias is that I won't
read on the air. Who did that that? I almost did? I
know, but Dix? Who would Who wouldn't sign that email address up?
For what I did. I wanted to know what was like for sale,
like looking for discount ibuprofen and photo development ship. First email comes in from
stet and Cyprus. All right, I gotta look at for them Cyprusians,
Cypriots, Cypriots. That's what it is. Thank you, Jeff hi bomb
cast. Seeing all of the supposed Project Cafe screenshots mock ups, that's the
Nintendo Nintendo thing name for that supposedly. Seeing all of the supposed Project Cafe
screenshots mock ups made me think that wouldn't that controller cost a ridiculous amount of
money? How much do you think that would cost? More importantly, how
much would you be willing to pay for it? I guess this requires a
certain amount of pre knowledge of that stuff, but it kind of comes down
to, Yo, we're going to put a touch screen interface. What if
they took a GameCube controller and stretched out and put a touch screen in the
middle of it. What if we put a GBA inside or something like that
on a wave bird? What's what's the question? How much would that controller
cost standalone? Or is he asking how much? Where? If you were
talking about, you know, the money that Nintendo put into the last one
was not on rees, was not on parts. It was on it was
it was on R and D it was, but but not on like high
end technology. They weren't spending their money on really rare parts or things that
required hard to get parts. It was you know, gyros. And it
was fairly cheap stuff specific hardware, right, but it was fairly cheap stuff
put together in a clever way to make for something different. I mean,
who's to say a really basic touch screen does not also fall into that category
at this point. Yeah, touch mes's been around for so long, mag
My guess is, especially if it's like not multi touch, if it's like
they're if it's just a single touch like the DS screen, but like,
what's the resolution of the display. Let's be really secured into has some history
buying touch screens in volume, so and and they're the most economically viable company
making hardware these days. We probably know what they're doing. It will be
reasonable. I think that charging any more than fifty dollars for a controller is
completely insane, and fifty dollars is also kind of ridiculous. Thirty bucks should
be But if you told me, like, hey, it's got a screen
in the middle of it and all this stuff, And I wonder if there's
any possibility that they will sell screenless controllers, but they'll just be like,
you know, it'll come with one that's got a screen in it, and
then it'll be like that, Yeah, like that's a master controller. Theoretically
you could get three that don't have the screen, or you could go whole
hog and buy three more premium controllers or something. It'll be like the classic
controller where you'll have to plug your screenless controller into your screened controller and you
can only do one, right, you only do one to one. You
always have to have all be wired and plug the vitality sensor into that still
headline. Yeah, yeah, they yeah, they said that they can only
get it to work on eighty percent of people. They're not going to release
it until the tech works on more pulls. Ye, they're trying to get
it to work on the undead, trying to get to work on people who
don't love Nintendo games, trying to convert them. I mean, wouldn't wouldn't
selling screenless controllers to split split the it would you know, cause developers to
not use the screens and all kinds of horrible stuff. But I just wonder
if that's an option that they're considering or whatever. I'm not saying it's I'm
not saying it's the way to go. I mean we're going down a weird
speculative path of like how central to the game design process will this new element
be? Like how much will Mantendo force it? That's assuming the screen is
even on the controller? Right again, assuming it'll have a controller at all.
Yeah, assuming a whole lot of things, about a whole lot of
hear saying, I guess what four weeks from now, we're gonna have the
answers because we'll be in LA at three. Next comes in from Jake in
Pennsylvania is about HDMI connectors. We're talking about these some last week. The
licensing requirements for HDMI stipulate that the physical connector types be on either end of
the cable can be for oh man, The licensing requirements for each tom I
stipulate what the physical connector types on either end of the cable can be for
purposes of interoperability. Uh. This is in regards to to Vinny muttering about
Nintendo putting a proprietary connector on the can on the system end of their new
system. There's some governing bodies somewhere telling people that it has to be m
on your machine. If you're going to use HDMI as a standard for conveying
information, you have to use interoperable. That's great, connectors on either ends.
So component for a Nintendo. Well that explains why the adapt the Xbox
has always had a raw yes, my port because Microsoft will love to sell
your cable. Anyone would. Anyone would. I would love to sell you
some cables. Sony has always been pretty kind of lazy fair about that stuff,
like they've they've just allowed it to sticks. Yeah, they're just allowed
to use the same connector. You could say the same thing about Nintendo.
I mean, I bought my hill, I bought my old PlayStations had composite
video out straight up, that's true, but only like the launch models early
they had those. But even but after that, like there was the standard
PlayStations, like you could use the same if you had a you know,
component cable, you could use that from PlayStation to PlayStation three. Yeah,
and it would do the same thing. I guess they I guess Nintendo lost
it with the weed. But but up to the GameCube you could use the
same you could use that same stuff this nest connector. So you know that
that goes back pretty far. Anyway, A good little piece of clarification about
HTMI things that you learn. Ryan Lonsky writes in Hell of Bomb Cast to
make a bit of a long story short, I bit a friend twenty bucks
that Mortal Kombat would outsell Portal two on consoles according to MPD. What do
you think my chances are of winning this? What do you think my chances
are of getting the MPD numbers? Yeah? Just on console? Yeah,
extremely yeah, yeah, I think that you know, the bulk of the
portal players will get it on the PC, whereas MK is not available for
the PC. So you know, it kind of has that factor that limits
the console sales. A little bit. That said, our numbers on achievements.
Right now, Mortal Kombat is ahead of Portal two on Xbox three sixty,
but it's by like six hundred people or something. That's not and that's
based on the Giant Bomb user base, not total sales, not a scientific
sample. Yes, well it's I think it's a big enough Maybe it's a
big enough sample. Maybe it's probably scientific. I think both of games are
just gonna sell really well. Yep, Like I don't think it's gonna be
a huge like. I think they're just both gonna do And I don't think
it's it's an either or. I think they're like kind of smart frankly for
those two to throw down against each other, because He's complemented very well,
made for a big week. You couldn't think of two more different games as
far as and it was great to go from one to the other like it
was. You know, you could get tired of one the other one.
Palette cleansing like a motherfuck absolutely uh Luke as from Saskatoon. Yeah, Saskatchewan,
Canada, dear bomb cast. I have enough money stamped up to make
one trip stateside this summer m and am trying to decide between Packs in August
or California Extreme in July. I'm a huge arcade history buff, which I
gather isn't really represented at packs, which is I'm sorry, I didn't want
to interrupt, but go ahead. That seemed like the place for it,
because it's sure as hell was represented at Packs East. Yeah, the guys
from fun Spot lugged a bunch of their machines. I don't know if pack's
regular will have that or not, but aingase that was that was because of
their proximity to Fun Spot in New Hampshire. That was great, That was
true. That was honestly. That was like a tiny slice of California Extreme
of just the dark, sweaty ass room, a bunch of really nice arcade
you know, old school arcade machines set up for free play and then you
just go very dark room. That room was was extremely That room was darker
than California Extreme. Yeah. I love California Extream. Ye, I'll be
awesome. Uh that said, I would think he should go to packs.
California Extream will have a six player linked up grid, cabinets. Is that
confirmed? It's there? Every year? Was there? I didn't remember being
there totally. Was there last year? I had really prominent placement the year
before. You know, such completely different events. They're both excellent feel good
events if you are like super into seeing arcade machines. There is nothing like
California Extreme that we've seen. That we've seen. I've been a fair amount
of like famous or once famous arcades. Nothing about about Mike Michael's house that
might that might be something similar, But that's just like source code for arcades
and all kinds of weird stuff, and no one gets to go to Mike
Mike's house. We've only heard tales tales of Mike Mikea's house. Someday,
I just I don't think so Someday I keep the dream alive. Jeff,
all right, you don't want to confront that Hito. No, no,
no, I'm not saying I would love to see it. Also, I
just I just don't know. I s don't know. Mike Micah reach out
to us. Let's come to your basement sometime Forgot's sake. Yeah, you
know, yeah, if you if you have you know, if if the
community end of it is more interesting to you, there's there's nothing like packs.
Uh, but if you want to see an incredible room full of old
arcading machines, there's nothing like games. California Extreme makes more sense. But
if you're yeah, the community, the sort of getting together with a bunch
of people, hearing upcoming developers talk, yeah and stuff. It's machines versus
people, there's California Extremes for the machines. A lot of lines that packs
too, especially at this point if you want to play games older crowd at
California extreme too. A lot of guys that might wear keys on a belt
loop, a lot of ball dudes with pony tails. Well, it's like
some coin op operating motherfuckers. It's some like driving trucks around to movie theaters
and bowling alleys and yeah, and you know pizza parlor mats, Yeah,
and laundromats. They've These are guys that know how to operate a hand truck.
They they not to run a location, that's right, some machines out
on the location, remember like nine locations. These these are these are like
the low rung of the commercial side of of video games, especially now as
as things get worse and worse, and these guys still just a lot of
them are collectors at this point. These guys are not on MOA members.
I don't even know if that even exist anymore. Uh, But it's it's
exciting to go and and hang out with these dudes who still have that passion
for the old stuff and I know that stuff. The sort of guys that
would jump a guy who picked a mame cabinet as a as a prize over
a was it like a Star Wars. I don't blame there was. Yeah,
there was a Star Wars vector graphics. I think it even had the
Empire upgrade on it some and you picked the Mame caps some crazy I can't
remember what it was, but some crazy pinball machines, roller coaster Tycoon.
It was a roller coaster Tycoon machine, which is like a relatively recent machine.
Looked pretty sharp, good condition. They're doing a tront legacy machine.
Do you think that'll be there? Oh? Maybe, Yeah, probably that'll
be out. That'll be out in that'll be out this month, and then
there's a limited edition like upgraded version of it coming out in June. But
I don't want to I don't want to spend five thousand dollars on a pinball
machine. But someone will drag that out. Yeah. Pinball machines are you
want to get into the sick habit like we we We got the glimpse of
that going to California Extreme last year of seeing Like you think it's bad,
arcade machine collectors, pinball collectors are a whole other kind of sick fucking junkie.
It's scary. Yeah, it's truly truly scary. The upkeep on yep,
guys, got to open up a vein and shove pinballs right in there.
Yeah. Like I have a pinball machine that has just has like a
warped ramp on it that I don't know that I'll ever be able to replace
unless someone decides to make more of them, because it's customed to that one
machine. And it's like you need to get every single person that I've ever
talked to that has any knowledge about pinball machines. Basically, as you're gonna
have to have that custom machine, you're gonna have to commission a machine shop
to like custom make you. These people have been doing that. Like if
there's enough demand for people have been going out and making new ramps and new
you know, decals and stuff. If there's enough demand from like the pinball
collecting community as well. Yeah yeah, yeah, like you can you can
go out and buy please prove repro Tron joysticks. Uh do you want that
glowy blue plastic. You can get them insane. So you guys can say
California Extreme. If this guy really likes that old stuff, I would say
California Extreme. But like it does it really warrants Maybe it's just because I've
gone to more of them with the paxes because they're now that there's two a
year, I've had more packs exposure. I am way more fucking excited about
California Extreme. Yeah, I'm excited about California Extream because it's coming soon,
like relatively soon. If you're if you're flying over an ocean. No this
I thought you said for some reason. Oh right, right, right right,
sorry, Okay, in that case, like Packs is more of a
party, California Extreme is like a room full of arcade machines at like kind
of a crappy hotel convention center. You go to go to the Great America
right across the way. Yeah, all right, yeah, that's like what
happens after hours of California extre There is no after hours of California goes until
two am. Yeah, but I mean you're not there. You're at the
hotel bar, paying way too much for drinks, yeah, or which is
what we did last year, or sitting in a hotel No, because I
had to I had that cooler. I didn't, you're the cooler. Okay.
It was me and Dave. Me and Dave were definitely at the hotel
bar a lot a lot yeah, people watching, Yeah, No, just
people drinking but observing the observe. Yeah, observing the arcade, collecting ecosystem.
Yes, definitely it's weird. Yeah, sure you should go this year.
Don't Oh dude, how far it's San Jose. It's not that far.
You would love to go. You guys should get times to start in
the day two. Yeah, it's like Saturday Friday. You can even you
can get in. I think I think this year I might. I might
want to just get a room for the whole time. I was just did
that last year for the Yeah you're there, we were there fucking the entire
show. Was it three days? We left Sunday? Did we stay the
night there? Yeah? We had rooms. We had multiple rooms. Miss
being at that hotel bar a long time. Had that room, they had
that floor. They just smelt like cleaning supplies and weed the entire time,
right, Yeah, guys smelling like whiskey and weed rolling around the floor the
entire time. Guys, I smoke if you got him in the elevator,
Oh, I forgot about first, dude. I was like when we first
got there, he was wearing some amazing shirt. Anyway, Fuck Californy Streams.
You guys should go and go to Californy streams. I'm changing my vote.
I guess go to California. Thanks. Demoil comes from Ben's c I've
been thinking about how much third party games this last gen has been made,
how many third party games this last dan have been made on the unreal engine,
and what advantage that's been to the xboxes live Rari since for a long
time debs seemed to have trouble porting on real games to the p S three
and the we can't run it at all. Given this, how much pull
do you think middlewear makers like Epic we'll have when it comes to next generation
console spects and architecture. For example, the successor will supposedly have a paltry
five hundred and twelve megs of RAM and, which was already a pretty skimpy
amount when the three sixty launched five years ago. If Epic were to go
around the big three console developers and tell them, you know, if you
want your hardware to be able to run the latest version and real engine,
sack up and throw at these two gigs of RAM in there, would they
have to fall in line. I don't know if this is considered apocrypha or
not, but that's exactly what happened with a three sixty. Yeah, if
they got Microsoft to double the amount of RAM in that thing. Interesting,
show them two versions of Gears of War. I don't know if it was
that specific, I'm sure that would make a pretty coup. I want to
say they showed two versions of the games, which is what you do if
you give us this RAM. This is what you do if you don't,
and the game looked, you know, or whatever tech demo looks incredibly better
with with the RAM. So a lot of pull, Yeah, especially Epic.
Yeah, yeah, but I wonder if if you know, this new
console that intends putting out will be able to run even the current version of
Unreal Engine. I would imagine patently ludicrous for them, the ship system that
can't run every game that's out on a console right now, that seems fair,
But yeah, if they're if they're not advancing past what's currently out there,
then at some point it's like screens and the controller, Man, it'll
be a Kurby game that makes that makes sense, I'll call that right now.
It always is. I'm back in. That can be some awesome Kurby
game, but it's like, no, that's the game that makes all this
it are gonna be like, oh okay, that's what justified everything for me.
I get it now next eavelecause it's from Duncan and Brantford, Ontario and
a lot of recent events with PSN and the massive personal information leaked of its
customers. Do you think that this will accelerate Sony's timetable for the PlayStation four?
No? Yeah, oh that was what was one of the things I
was going to mention was the Sony has said in addition to vague time tables
for stuff coming back up, uh, free stuff, some free stuff specific
welcome, welcome home, welcome, We're welcome back, there was at least
the thirty days of PlayStation Plus for PlayStation Plus subscribers as well as a think
I thought it was thirty days for everybody, and if you were already a
subscriber's the things you get like a a try out, three days download everything,
and I guess you lose the rights to it if you don't continue to
just what's the point of getting the free thirty Yeah, they should just be
giving everybody for free thirty days anyway, as like good business to get people
to sign up for PlayStation Plus totally well they were doing. That's just the
way that PlayStation Plus is designed. You have to keep up with places.
That just seems sort of that's not really a gift. I believe there was.
If you're already a PlayStation Plus subscriber, like I am, I find
the thirty days like added to my subscription length. That's great, I'm already
paying for the stupid thing. Make it go a little bit longer. I've
already made that investment. Yeah, but it's like it was already the case
where when I signed up for the year, it was already like it's really
fifteen months, not twelve or you like they're already like throwing three months at
you when you sign up for like, we're not gonna start charging you till
three months after you first sign up. So so just the whole thing just
seems like it has no value at all and they're just desperate to get people
in. I don't know, but actually the few days that I had my
PlayStation Plus there, it seemed the cloud man seemed cool. The cloud like,
the free stuff was was nice. It was like, hey, you
want to pay for free, Yeah, you want to play Sonic that jog
like, not really, but that's cool, is there? Cloud saves seemed
like the big thing for me, And yeah, granted we are all a
bunch of walking edge cases around here. Yep, the play games on multiple
PS three's. Most people don't do that, But that's like the reason totally
although with you know, current dependability of cloud based stuff question, Yeah,
what kind of makes you think is that? Is that such a thing.
I'll be cerious to see the state of my cloud saves when all this ship
comes back up. Yeah, they said that everything is in tact, but
there's no it's hard to believe that though, is actually all. It's not
like I had anything that was completely critical in there, but I'm curious to
see what happens. Well, you're never You're never going to have stuff in
the cloud that you also don't have at least one local copy of. That's
right. As long as you have access to every past three that you play
games on, like, you'll always have the most third, the newest version
you could you could delete it off of you yeah, but so that you
would only have a cloud version. Presumably if something like this ever happened again,
you'd at least yeah, hopefully at that point it's on you. Yeah.
First failure. Yeah, really after the first failure, yea actually can't
get fooled again. Him. Gerard Smith writes in to say this questions for
blah blah blah blah. Uh, this is an MK question MK history questions,
high punch punch answer, thank you. Uh. Back when I was
in school, there was a rumor going around that in MK two there were
moves above the fatalities called total annihilations. One was meant to involve the dog.
I heard that one was meant to involve reptile spinning acid at his opponent's
feet. Was this a myth confined to the Irish schoolyard or is this something
you heard yourself? Definitely never heard that. I haven't ever heard that.
One. I was here, I could take get Sonia down off of the
chains, and the back of that, we're turning into Kano. It was
a big one. There were some there were some guys that were trying to
convince you. They're like, no, there are fucalities that game. They're
like, no, I'm not. I think I think animalities started MK two,
didn't They Like everybody that was that was a big rumor about MK two.
So they went and made them. Yeah, it's the problem with MK
is that there's no separation of or there's there's direct connection between rumor mongering and
what ex chance up in game. Rumors, rumors became features, like bugs
became features or characters in some cases just like totally, it must it must
be awesome on their part. I mean, it's like anything crazy that happens
in those games, they can always just like play it off. It's like,
yeah, well maybe if you investigated that a little further. It's really
it's it's kind of like a meta fighting game. Maybe if you cut up
the baby with Baraka's blades, something cool might happen. Didn't didn't didn't the
Kintaro morph start out as a rumor and then they just went and put it
in a revision. Was like in the very last board, right, one
of the last boards that they put out. It is where they put that
in. Yeah, it was like the last or second to last board out
that they added that. People have been saying you could do it, Yeah,
all right next email. Epic Games has stated, we actually don't get
a name for this berry berry rights in no because there have been other berries
right against Yes, Hey, guys. Epic Games has stated that the launch
of has seated with the launch of Gears Too, that they had made some
changes from the first game to discourage shotgun rushing because they had always intended the
game to be more of a tactical cover based game, and the ease of
which you could rush in and shotgun everyone threw off the balance. Scott me
thinking, is it epics place to change the game in ways that devalue the
way people prefer playing, or should they have just accepted the fact that most
of a lot of players would rather throw cover by the wayside and run around
shotguns blazing Epics intentions, but a lot of players seem to disagree with me.
What do you guys think about that? Well, I think that they
have to it's in their best interest to make a fun game that is kind
of balanced, and if they create a situation where everyone is running around with
the shotgun, they've failed, you know, like if every other fun doing
it. It's like if hey, we design all these weapons that apparently suck,
yea, Like, that's that's not a It's not a good if ninety
percent of the content is going ignored, right, But there is a question
of like, what's the you know, what's the golden ratio of player feedback
versus what you were? I think it's you take the player rumors and turn
it into new characters for the games. You know, same thing, Cole
end a slam ball outfit seems to speak to that. Thrash ball. Slam
ball is a real thing. Whatever ball, threshalls just fake thrash balls,
just football. Slam ball is just awesome. Uh, Paul W Rights in
Hey BombCast. So the other day I was playing through the MK nine story
mode with the subtitles turned on. At some point, Shao Kan says aligned,
declaring he will conquer Earth Realm, except instead of the subtitle just saying
conquer, they spelled it ko and q u e r Okay. Is it
just me or there is another realm? Just crazy committed to this whole key
thing. Are they trying to be serious or is it in a tongue in
cheek kind of way. I think that's both. They're deadly serious about committing
to it. They will never allow I love that though. Actually it's kind
of amazing. Really, it's really dumb, decades decades long commitment to this
stupid, stupid gag that even in the you think that just Ed Boone saw
like an early revision, turned on subtitles and realized there are a bunch of
C words that had gone and change like we can't. I bet it never
even got to him. It was like, I bet everyone of there is
just like lockstep on that stuff, just like no, this is how it's
done. Space C. Replace it with space K. So every time a
word starts with C, it will now start with K. Last email comes
in from Shy and Israel. Hey, bomb cast. I guess this is
a question for Brad, but any one can answer. I would like to
play a final fantasy four. Should I go with the DS political remake or
the new PSP collection? Oh man, Uh, the PSP one is more
faithful, it seems for sure. Has the epilogue too right. The PSP
one in terms of like a value proposition, it's the PSP one is chock
full. It's got it's got that cell phone after years after years, sequel
and like a little interlude episode in between. Uh. The DS one is
really well produced, but as hard as fuck isn't I didn't get far enough
in the PSP one to know how the difficulty has been tweaked there, but
yeah, DS one was so unforgiving that I had stopped playing it. So
review forth, comic take Yes still on the way, look for that soon,
so as I finish it. Uh, I don't know, man,
ps PSP, let's say, all things being the same, you get the
d S version. Imagine for a freaking song person is probably not super expensive
at this point. Yeah, but then you're just getting you're getting more stuff
with the PSP version. Although it's kind of cool to see what they did
with all like the three D cus scenes, But it sounds like this might
be this dude's first experience with it. He may have not he may not
necessarily have the same nostalgia hood. But I don't know if they're using the
same translation or like they added some mechanics and abilities and stuff to the DS
one that may not be in the PSP. Oh man, that's a tough
question. And they're putting all those games to the iPhone two it's released one
of them. Oh, the two D stuff, Yeah, no, the
no, the DS the three D ones, the crazy remade ones yeah,
huh wow, one of them just came out because they did three and then
four. Yeah, everybody, well, they released like the first one on
Yeah they released Yeah, but that was two D right because those yeah,
those are those the original ones they did one of the DSP makes. They
only did three and four in three D on the DS. Okay, everybody
one of those. Everybody's been crying for six, but it hasn't happened yet.
Well, went upon It got rated somewhere for some I think for for
PSN so Chrono trick, also Coronach for wait, what Final Fantasy six like
PSN for something? Yeah, probold form look like they it will start as
a virtual you know, like an original game release, and then they'll finally
give us our damn remaken. I play the hellot like that? Oh yeah,
that be awesome. I want to take bets on Final Fantasy seven remake
for m GP. I don't know that ship kind of sail already? Why
not restart? It didn't right now? Didn't the ship with us? Didn't
the ship kind of sail on a Sony handheld system? Oh no, the
future has come for us. We gotta go all right, Wow, it's
robot from the future. My god, is that what he's gonna look like
for the foreseeable future? I think so if any Caravella has special eyewear on
for his messed up eyes, they probably just dilated somebody in a flashlight.
Can't wait, it's probably just like a Today thing. So in closing,
any version of Final Fantasy four is okay, yeah yeah, but DS version
gets fuck hard YEP version might get Yeah. I go with the PSP one.
If you never played it before, it's stuff. It's probably gonna be
closer to the original experience. It seems good. Good piece of advice.
Uh, and that's it for emails. Thanks everyone who wrote in BombCast at
John bomb dot com is the address. Uh, and that's it for the
show. Patrick, thanks for coming in again bringing us the news we so
desperately crave. Jeff, thank you for bringing in your pizza expertise round it's

your Final Fantasy expertise here in space yea, also space. I'm in space.
Oh yeah, I have to cut that part all right, that's gonna
do it for this week's episode, Oh of the Giant Podcast. Come on
