Hey everyone, It's Tuesday, January the fourth, twenty eleven. You're listening to the Giant Bomb Cast twenty eleven edition. I'm Ryan Davis, Vinnie Caravella is in the house back in two thousand eleven, twenty eleven, twenty two, twenty eleven, twenty one hundred eleven, Who ten double D Double Boots, Bridis shoemakers here as well. Jeff Gerstman on vacation, enjoying his holiday break a little, I will I will say this morning, when I woke up, I was like, oh, oh, I was just happy something got me out of bed. But if you wait a few weeks, how much better will it be? Oh? And then take that vacation later. Yeah, yeah, we'll see space it out. We'll see like, yeah, the next opportunity that happens, it'll be. Oh, it's December. I've been saying for like five take like a week off, just like good time. I'm already sitting here thinking like, we got a trip the country next week, and then I got a big review of the week after that, and then DICE is Ice is two weeks after that, and then GDC is like two weeks after that. At least're not going to see yes tomorrow. At least you're not going to see yes tomorrow. At the most I'm not going to see tomorrow. That's that's not coincidental. So yeah, so good luck to our boys at ces consumer like Tronic's show the cess Pool, look for that, look out cess Pool. So yeah, every time you say that, I think you're invoking Adam Sessler. Oh that's like, why are you talking about that. I'm not gonna talk mess about sex. That would be a good name for an Adam Sessler segment. You should start the Cesspool a good but then you don't have your clever CSN. He could take it because we're only gonna use it for like this, like I'll two three days next year and we're and we're not even using it tested using they're in the tech round. Won't forget it. We'll keep you well, I'll just keep yelling it at them anyway. But we're not going to CEES because video games have no business at CS three D TVs man except when PSP two gets mouse there and and and and we'll have that information as FAST's not fast. I'm not I'm not disagreeing with you. I'll send you to Vegas. I'm good old Vegas, not even New Vegas. Good New Vegas is kind of messed up. Yeah, So so I think there's a little temporal dissonance here for some folks because, uh all last week we posted like nine hours of bomb casts as part of our chat Bomb Game of the Year, and Viney Caravelle, I just wanted to extend my gratitude to both of you and Drew Scanlon, who is not here but I'm gonna gesture at and look at, uh for the incredible work that you guys did the year. Thanks you guys for playing around with our monkey games. It was like, hey, what'd you guys get in fart of the Cameron Dance? What are you gonna do with Monkey? I don't know, now, okay, Brad, wave your arms around and just pretend you're looking at it. Well, okay, but the packages we were super s thanks those Dave's. Dave designed it. So the design, yeah, the design work was excellent on and I thought it all looked looked really nice, and you know, it helped us. We had a bunch of really cool content up on the site while you know, while on holiday break, So that was a nice thing. To have. It was pretty almost without incident. Almost almost. Let's let's let's talk about the incident. I still fully understand it, so okay, either do I, because when I left this room, it was my understanding that Morden was ours at the other incident. Other one is you perpetrated the your incident, but that's not even incident whatever. January first two incident. Yeah, oh yeah, that was a good one. God damn it. It's weird in our tools because you know, you hit, you hit the next month, and then you're like, yeah, this is going up next month January first, uh, and totally doesn't cycle the year over right. Oops. Oops, I'm surprised I caught it quick. Yeah, so who was Who's a fault for the prime incident? The prime offense. It's weird because Jeff and I talked about it when we were going over the little package. We both watched all the videos like ten times. I mustn't watching about one hundred and fifty because I was kind of like going through the text feature before it was going up, and I'm like, yeah, everything here looks fine. I know, did nothing about it jumped out at me because even looking at that text a bunch, like in terms of like formatting and content, it looked fine. Yeah, like nobody thought to actually check the winners. I know, bay and that was spelled right. I didn't catch that video. Did Bayonetta make it into the video as the winner was the Well that's the thing. Did I smell some kind of conspiracy? Jeff and I talked about it a bunch of We both had it marked off on our copies of the list of like this was the winner from the from the podcast and decisions and stuff, and we even talked about it specifically because we were talking about spelling of Morton, you know, not Morden, and we're talking about it, and he was like, oh yeah, And I was like, wow, you know, we're only putting in the winners in the video. So he's like, oh, yeah, I guess that's true. So I guess Morton's not going going in there. Yeah, I don't know. I will put us all at fault. I will say each and every one of us, I'm saying. You and I looked at true. We did. We did. Yeah. We even like we're like, okay, this looks fine. And it was until what I was like, oh wait, from like like a editing perspective, it looked fun ye, So yeah, I don't know. So I would just like to say that congratulations Morton and the not Morton and I can swallow as much as I want and I'll just make it a big It's good Morten. Yeah, be whatever you want. He is our actual choice. So we like being at an awful lot obviously. Yeah, she was on our mind, but on the record, on the record for the Permanent for the Permanent Record, and in third place. John Marson is Martin, John Martin, Steve Martin our best new character of twenty ten. So other than that, I thought I went on Hitchless, Yeah, which was real. It's a real funny way to start it off with with something like that because it just makes puts me on edge the entire time, like, oh funk, what else is gonna go wrong here? You know, there's a lot of it would have that be like the first day of the like, oh, like a major oversight, like this is this is all gonna be? I'm gonna be in the office every day. Speaking of speaking of temporal dissemance, I loved in the comments, like the conspiracy theories people were coming up with about like primarily the personal top tens with people like changing analyzing the choices that were made, like oh oh, he only put that at number two to get revenge for that game losing so and so category or whatever. We finalized those lists and shot those videos before, like the deliberations, everything happened like days, like a week before those were done locked in. Uh, there's yeah. I think it would be interesting at some point to do on two two regards on the purely production technical and to kind of surface how that stuff is done, because there are a lot of moving pieces that need to come together and I'm really surprised that not more goes wrong, but yeah, there are a lot of things that need to match up and line up and go over. But then also on the kind of like how we come to those choices, and I don't want to say how lightly, but it's it's definitely one of those things. At least in my top ten list, I'm sifting stuff around until somebody says, go on the camera, like we said, like, oh man, my number eight, do I really want to think you? You and I both ended up with top elevens. Yeah. Yeah. When you're asked to kind of put your favorite games into and solidify this forever in a video. It's like it seems very important, but then like it's almost like I almost feel like it's how you're moved, but it's it's it's it's an it's an in the moment decision. All you can do is judge it from how you feel at that very moment. Yeah, and I think you know Jeff Green uh in his top ten lists, which I also I want to I I've already I want to thank all eleven of our of our contributors are our guest top tens. I thought that was a lot of interesting insight. It definitely affected the games that I played over the break. Yeah, some of some of the games that were coming up on that, like uh, Recketeer the Item Shop, it's record, it's recketeer, it's it's something that in the game is actually uh kind of spelled out because of how close it sounds to racketeer. Those were fun lists getting getting different, you know, developer perspective and industry perspective on on twenty ten and seeing what games were bubbling up on certain people's list. I was surprised to see how how how often Darksiders really got brought out there. I guess I really didn't, although it's although it also made it really funny for me that you literally can't talk about dark Siders without saying Zelda. Yea literally impossible for anyone to say anything about Dark Siders with that at some point saying now, yeah, it just it has you, but it doesn't hide it. Yeah. It's probably a testament to the need for more Zelda style games because there aren't that many. But all those lists were awesome, so thanks to everyone involved. One thing that was neat This only happened once, admittedly, but hearing from the maker of a game that was on another developer's top ten list, I'm saying, like, oh man, I super respect the game that that person makes, so hearing that they like our game was extra awesome. Yeah, folks, folks at two K asked us to extend a shout out to Christina Norman from from BioWare for her love of Sieve Oh Cool, which she placed number two right behind StarCraft. That she did. That she did and right, so so go. So going back to the top ten things, Yes, the original thing like certain games are are solidified, at least for me personally, like on my list, like these will make it. These are gonna best. And then once this year, especially once I got up to like, you know, four or five, then there are a lot of games that could have made that back five and like I definitely feel like I could have been you know, eleven through fifteen on my list were very near contenders. H It doesn't drive. There isn't a steep drop off for me after ten. Be like, you know, here's number ten and the rest of the games is your ship. I think I think around a dozen was where I had to start, or maybe around fifteen I had to start whittling. Yeah, But for me, it was more of the ordering, Like that's the thing that is that is super fickle. It's like that's the part where it's just like, yeah, if I looked at this at this list tomorrow, I might have completely inverted it and had a totally different order for this. It's it's the important part is to is to just kind of highlighting like and I also I also want to say, and I don't want to h linger on these on this Game of the Year stuff too much because I've been thinking about it constantly for like a month now. Uh, we are not we are four dudes, we are not definitive, all right. There are a lot of people on the internet, it seems that that's there was a lot of question like, well, did you forget this? Did you you know? Why wasn't this there? It's like it maybe we forgot it, but is that materially any different than it didn't strike us as a thing toinely like the reading the comments mostly mostly looking out for this video is broken. There were definitely a lot of comments for the most want to jumped out. For me, the most was the God of War for best looking stuff easily easily the twenty ten Game of the Year Gate. It's weird. It's weird. It's weird to see it as a conspiracy because we have literally print out and list of all the games in front of us as we went through every war and preppering for going into the podcast, like going through everything before we sat in this room and hashed out those winners. We say, in a different room and hashed out a list of finalists, right and and like, so we had all the releases and I even like while we were sitting in this room, even like during the recorded part, I had full list of the games that came out that year that I was scrubbing through. Don't like to make sure is there anything that we missed, anything that jumping out at me? So right, so like in terms of like missing it, I don't think anybody here could possibly have missed the name of the game as something that came up. But for me, like God of War is a great looking in, but it's just not something that jumps to mind when I think about what was the most visually striking. It's incredibly proficient on a technical level, right, It's somebody turned the knobs up, and it also just looks like a much better version of the previous two. I'm not even saying that it's that it's wouldn't be a valid choice. But again, we're four dudes. These are the perspective of the four dudes, and these were the games that that stayed with us. And I guess God of War three wasn't necessarily one of them, right in that regard. I mean it might have been number four for all of us. I don't know, there's only three, there's only room for three finals. It's just something that for me, just this even when people keep saying it now like oh you forgot about it? It definitely doesn't jump to my mind as like, uh fitting for me in that category. I mean, you can mention it, but it's still would have just been like I think they're all I think you can find more striking things that will imprint on your brain more for that category. And obviously it didn't print on our brains enough to kind of keep bringing it up. Uh yeah, these are totally opinions. There's nothing, there's no formula for this. Don't don't, don't get upset about it. And I really part of the reason that I wanted to put up the lengthy uncut deliberation podcasts is I wanted a doc. I wanted straight up a document. I don't think those things are entertaining at all. I think that actually listening to our deliberation poor grueling. But it is a paper trail. If there's any question like how did how could they possibly come to this decision? Just listen right. It might be a bad decision. We might have come to it poorly. It might just because one of us said, fuck it, fine, I don't care, I'm too tired. Let's move on like it can that And that's fun because that is how these things work. When you have to. We've been doing these for a long time and and this is the problem. I don't know if this is the process everywhere, but this is the process I'm familiar with. So there are humans behind these choices, not not many of them, and it gets worse when there are more. And in the in the in the spirit, oh yeah, try not to remember that far back. Try not to remember like thirty people in the same room trying that was I was actually thinking about that some But because that was where for me, like where the filibuster began. That's it's where that skill, well, it's where that skill in your ability to really sell a game where I, at least for myself, developed that. It was in that room and in that because I'm like, I'm only going to get to get my word in edgewise a couple of times here, so when I do, I gotta fucking go for it. You gotta pick your battles, but you also have to have like a good set of talking points. You got to be able to to really sell it, not just with information but with passion. Man, that was fun. That was a lot of fun. Well that's why I really like the top ten lists as well, because it's like, you know, we have to agree on all this up. You don't have to agree with anybody about your top ten. I just actually, I just want to say in the spirit of they're only being four of us or going along with that theme, and also the parts of the top tens moving around a lot. Yeah, it's really I almost hate to admit this. It's really sad to play other games that you didn't have time to play afterwards and feel like, man, maybe that could have like, yeah, might have edged in a bunch of shit over the break, that could have come up one way or the other totally. But well, that's the part I hate aback Game of the Year is. I think it's I think it's kind of a dopey thing and concept, but I really like it because it celebrates all these great games for the year and then actually going through the entire process and looking all this stuff, looking at all this stuff, you're like, man, I have a ship ton more to play, Like I feel like if I had had time to play Darksiders, it might have There's a good chance it would have ye there maybe, But like it was a point that I made repeatedly, if if you had cared enough you would have played it. Yeah, you know, I mean there are certain demands, you know, reviewing has to take precedents. There's no way I was going to play like a second of Fallout New Vegas before the break It's just the reality of it. And I played it. I'm really enjoying it. It still has its faults. Hey, that's why we have our two thousand and eleven twenty tens Game of the Year. I don't know what. I don't know what year that is, twenty twenty, who twenty When they're playing I was sad they're playing Island Milo yesterday and thinking, man, this is going to be on the list for best music. I know it is all right, closing the book talking of the year, a D twenty ten, Buenos DS twenty eleven. Just started to start your list yet, shoot earlier this year. Yeah, I've got different lists. We got different lists. I've got my the games that I played over the holiday break list. Oh man, Vinny Caravella, Yeah, dude, should we start with you? Just go around the room. I'm sure we must have some overlap. Actually, I don't know. I feel like the break games are so like kind of eclectic and weird. Yeah, they can be. They can be Hey viny, hey man, what you've been playing? Uh so let's see. It's I don't have my list in front of it. I didn't bring notes, so I'm just coming off the hill here Christmas Day. Paint me a picture in the Caravella household. Uh okay, there's an easy one. So my wife got me connects. You got you got Microsoft Connect for connects, the Microsoft one yep, and uh get the connects you mean the move Oh oh no, whatever, So it's really it's it's it's a really funny. I didn't play the connect once over the break TV, so it was you can't even use it for voice chat. It's useless even for that. Well have you been on the other end of it though? Oh? No, sound terrible, terrible, terrible. Uh, it because it picks up all of the game audio. Oh no, well that's the part where you have to just turn your game audio. Oh it doesn't mean it doesn't. I thought it's supposed to set up. Its inclusion is not very good. Yeah. Well so she knew, she that I had this interesting connect this kind of almost lets let's say, a morbid curiosity and connect because because I know you're not very pro in the sense I kind of hate it and I hate everything about it. Yeah, but in another sense, I feel like I need to experience it before I can really develop that kind of lover hate, right, because you can you can't just hate from the sidelines that deeply. You can have a casual heat, but you can't really can't breaking it down. So no, you need to know what you're talking Yeah, So like I felt like I really need to know what I'm talking about. And she knew this, and she she also knew that, like there are things about it that I probably would enjoy. You know, it's a new piece of technology. That technology is kind of awesome, like technical Marvel showing my brother that over the break and you know, it's like, oh, this is mattic. So she's kind of like she's connect And I was like, all right, great, all right, let's set this up nowhere in my house? Can I set this up that it works properly? So a little San Francisco apartment. Yeah, so I've got a I've got a CRT television that's pretty big, and my old school CRTV an HD you should point out, Yeah, there are not a lot of hds yeah, it's a nice one. It's ah, that's why I haven't gotten rid of it. But let's just say for the sake of argument, it's about a foot and a half to two feet deep, right, Uh, So the connect has to be up against the wall, so there's the TV's popping on extra two feet. The connect is pushed up against the wall, stacked on top of the connect box. It came in on top of another box to get it high enough, so it's it's placed upon its boxes on top of the CRT. So it's about I don't know, probably about eight feet right. Uh. And we have our our calves pressed against the couch. So that was the only way we could possibly get the connect to work. And it's got a wide angle end, so it gets a lot it gets, It gets the breadth of it, but it's the height is kind of tough, so it's pointing down on us. So we played some Connected Venture and that was kind of fun and uh and then I spent like an hour going Xbox Yeah play saying saying I'd like to just say it just so that the thing comes up like never mind, Xbox cancel. Yeah, and so like there's nothing here I want to do. But I just want to let you know, I know your fucking name. I just there was just things about it I just don't understand. And now having had it in my house or having it in my house, I can say with authority that they they're just designed design decisions that seem so weird, Like why do I have to go into that other dashboard? Why if we had the spoken thing, can I not just say Xbox and then say number two or number three or up or down? Like why are you going to give me this this isolated thing that has like I don't know, ten twelve choices that are none of the things I ever use, ESPN never use. Is there no way to customize the items on that screen? No, So it's like what's on there? The first pain? The only thing that's on there that really that I could ever want to use is the game, right, don't want to use anything else? Don't. It's a bummer that, like I wish Netflix worked with Netflix, uh, you know pretty much anything else that zone I don't use that there are two media options out there forget well. I mean the reality of it is that the connect is is bad for like UI, it's so slow, it's it's bad. It's bad for you. I well, just because it is slow. It takes time for it to register what you're what you're doing. But you're thinking if if it was trying to register anything fast, or even if it could keep up, it would be way too easy for it to confuse, just like scratching your head for you want to go up five pages like no, no, no, I my head. Yeah, it's it's kind of the the the the limitation when your body is the controller is any errant movement you do can be interpreted, right, I just want the voice stuff to work, yeah, on the main menu, because I just want to be able to go baby steps. Yeah that what you just said running is similar to the argument against something like like, for instance, using the move for first person shooters. Yeah, when you're doing that, there is no dead zone for the controller essentially, like there's no way to like drop your hands and not have the view react to what you're doing. You know, right, you can stop moving the joystick and your view will stay static. And yeah, there are a lot of fatigues, there's a lot there are a lot of designed obstacles to overcome with the stuff. So just played connect Connect Adventures the one that comes with it, and uh, you know, it's it's very similar to the experience we've had in the office with that game. There's nothing new there. But we had a hard time, hard hard time in our space trying to keep two people in. Oh, they just wanted to lose that. I became my wife after all that ham right. Oh yeah, we were just busting out the seams. And then so we had our phone with that was fine. It was a great gift, and you know, I'm glad I have one now. Uh. Then I played World of Kathleen's with Jeff. Was that the rest of your break? That was? That was Christmas this Christmas Day? Tell me about So I have it. I haven't have it too. I don't want to hear about. It's one of the trio that I have not downloaded. I played a fair amount of of Kingdom, but at a certain point it got too complicated and I'm like, I don't know what's going on anymore. There are some actual good improvements basically the same kind of game. It is identical research manage or resource management and putting down dudes and it's like, oh, there's wood over here, so I need to nip chop wood dude, put it. Put this hat on your wood chopper. Right, it's all the hat based job stuff, but now there are there are some refinements that are nice. The best thing that they have added are these little helper guys, like specifically like four or five guys that will just help you out that you can't assign task to. But like if you build something at your factory and you walk over to somewhere else, they will bring that stuff to you. So they literally are just there to fairy goods that are being built to you. And then if you've built a blueprint before for like I don't know, that's a mill, they will automatically build that while the supplies are coming out. So that makes the game a lot faster and a lot more fun. But essentially it is the same, kept any new like online stuff or I thought Kingdom had multiplayers, it had some I can't remember the degree of multi Jeff. Jeff and I were and were building the world together. Man, there are three different worlds now, you like travel from like a snowy one to a kind of more medieval fantasy one to a desert world. So there are three worlds and you don't bring stuff in between them. You just there's like a story. It pays is better than Kingdom and Kingdom. I feel like you got to a point where you just lost I don't know what to do. This has like objectives that keep you going the entire time. So it was just it was Yeah, it just got to a point where it's like systems are just getting more complicated and I've got a million guys running around and I can't keep tracking it. And that that tech tree or building tree or whatever it was. In the first time, I remember being gargant like there were like dozens of buildings on that face. It seems like more streamlined, and like Jeff and I are pretty much able to quote unquote beat the game, you know, in one sitting. So, uh, yeah, it was fun. It was goofy fun, but that sounds good. I'm building the lumber mill. Where are you building? I'm building? Do you both go offline then and have a copy of that world or because it has it has metody right when you when you split up, I think we must both have it. I'm not you get it on weekend? Yeah, I get this. Stroll around the world. Take the keef kids. You know around, but you have to have a court pointed monitor there at all times. Of course, well unless we go out into the frozen world. That's what the Connect is there for. Yeah, that's the other thing with Connect. They don't trust that that. I really don't like the way. I don't know if I should say. I just think that thing is just recording whenever it wants due. What's up, Brad? I don't know if we can talk about that. I heard some terrifying things about the early hardware. Oh what about it about them being able to access it remotely and stuff. I don't know that that is all apocryphal. I have no idea if that's true. Oh, I mean I don't doubt that you could build that hardware. Yeah, it's technically it's not even a hardware. That could just be yeah, just fucking drivers. Yeah whatever. Guess what did you get to see me being fed in my living room? Like nothing too shocking going on there? Scratching his cross again and yeah, you know, like the visions they get back from Connect would just depress them. I think, like literally, when I saw the images that came back, when it takes those photos, I was like, this is fucking just depressing aram like my pajamas, my socks, and like my wife's in her pajamas, and like just in the smallest cramped looking space is trying to jump and stay in the contrast between the reality and like those those marketing driven commercials storing like models where people like some like look they always look like they're in like Asia somewhere on some like like Pagoda like something super nice. Yeah, just like huge floor space and the couch is just in the middle of the room for some bright lighting. Very attractive, that's right, but yeah, super middleist. There is a couch and nothing else, nothing and a flat screen mounted to the wall, and like that's it. Not my everything smushed against the wall, jammed as much shit into this space as we possibly could. My coffee tables on its side. Now is that in the frame? Uh so, if they want to spy on me, let them come, let them see me. Like and then after that it was like it was my wife and I on our little couch, like me laying on my side, she's like laying with the blankets, trying to wave our hands and can't get it to see us. Lighting up my hand, but it's also lighting up the book that's next to me. But anyways, whatever I've had, I've got the you know, the eye toy and the live vision camera like Tho's been seeing in my living room staring at me for years already. I don't know. This thing just seems a little more nefarious. There's moves. There's there's like a hell like quality to it. You know, it's like you can start talking to I turned my vision came around you really really you don't use like the dashboard effects like I just heard of that. Oh for the live vision it doesn't. Yeah, I use that, and I use the dots. There's there's a few different like because there's like the swimming I used the water and the dots, and like the edges still have that. It was always kind of boned that the p S three I doesn't have something similar just like dot pop that thing on once a while. I don't have an eye. I actually get that gives them and get moved. I bet if you use the move controls with the connected works great. I don't think they're compatible, like just like lade up your hand whatever. Wait until somebody hooks them both up to a computer. It's a real games Kingdom Kingdom of the World is great. It's we'll take a look at it later this year. So the games games I went through, Oh that's no good, don't stick that in there. What are your doctor? Who? Whatever? That's a lot. I want to see what was gonna happen wet feeding itself, you asshole. It's not as bad as as you might know. I played it. I got to a point and I had to say, I just got to a certain jump where I'm like, I don't know where I'm supposed to jump from here. I will say it's a game I had to play over the course of like four days, and it's not a long game. Just I'm putting this down. I liked what I really liked where it was trying to go. I really dug some of the music and stuff that was in it, and it just it was not competent enough to like I agree. I agree, Like, is I see this vision in your head? I share this what you see is happening like you're playing a Tarantino movie, like the Badass Chick Grindhouse kind of vibe and like some acrobatics, some dual guns start this like kind of like John Wood jump in gameplay Western like Southwestern kind of guitar riffs and stuff, slide guitar, yeah, just like twangy shit, and the battle breaks out and then it's just like jaccuza. Motherfucker's everywhere for some reason. And then you're yeah, you're in Texas Chinatown or yeah, it's crazy. It sounds great on paper, and then it's like on execution is like the only way to trigger this book bullet time is a slide on your knees and start shooting. So that's you going around in a circle basically sliding on your knees or jump. It's just weird. It sounds like Vanquished before Vanquish, just and just bad. Uh, just like weird handling stuff. The film grain and like camera shakes. Stuff just doesn't look good. But it had some style that shone through. So oh yeah, a little bit that that was a great use of your free time. Well, so I put that in and then I sent that back to game fly and then finish. I finished it. U I almost the first two is there gonna be ye? Yes, because you know, maybe they'll figure it out. I don't know, Like I said, there are things. Yeah, I believe they've confirmed what two, but what I'd like to see a sequel to the other game. I'll skip ahead to the end of my vacation and there's a bunch of stuff in between. At the end. My favorite game in this break Alpha Protocol. Really liked it. There will never be an alph Protocol too, Uh that game? Are you okay with that in the sense that I really liked Alpha Protocol and I can close the book on it, Yeah, like yes, but like there were things about that the game that could have been better. A second crack. Maybe it's really ambitious, but as far as like seamless multi narrative stuff goes, it's probably the best on the market. I I want to check it out because because Jeff said a lot of really positive things about it at the time. Granted it was all you know, catching caveats well, but it was just like the fucking shooting, just like the basic game play. I played it like before it came out, I was like, this is just untenable. So I had I had the I was able to play it with all of that told to me beforehand. You have the benefit of like six months of high Yeah, and people are like, listen, if you really want to, if you want to yeah, and patch it. So if you really want to enjoy the game, don't do this. You should probably do this and like mix this very specific way, and then that even so much of that, let's like drop, like forget trying to even out all the points, like just maximize something, because that you get perks as you match put points into things, and those things really make a huge difference, especially with the gun play. So I was able to play it with a character that I thought was great, and I kind of can't see playing it any other way than in the way I expect it out. But the story stuff, it's just it's really fantastic, the way they integrate everything. It's smartly written, clever dialogue, and like I said, it makes you feel like the way you're making the story of all is the only way this story could have gone, when obviously there are hundreds of permutations. I also had a very positive Obsidian game experience over the break, playing some Fallout New Vegas. Again, my copy was still wrapped, still sealed. I had to break the seal on it about you know, a few days into the break for this for the best, because I think they just put out that giant patch like the week before. Well, it's kind of like I knew Patch like it was one of those I was gonna start playing it a little bit before the break, but I knew there was a patch comedy. It's like, oh, I'll just hang out and it's It is at least as stable as Fallout three was when I played that. Sure, I'm not gonna say it's stable. I have had but I've only had two hard locks in that game is so crazy about auto saves that that motherfucker auto saves constantly. So in both occasions, I didn't really lose any progress. I didn't really care. I think that it's better written than FALLOWT three. I think that's got a better story than Fallout three. I think the stuff with the factions is really interesting. I think the stuff with your companions is really well done because I feel like part of his I got better playing fall Out through playing Fallout three. Like when I first started playing, already know how to play Fallout three. I know this well now. It's like I know where I want to sink my time or my ability is. Basically, it's like I know I would just want to get to one hundred with speech as fast as I can and I know, like what perks are going to be fun to use. That's more it's more like I'm not going to play to like spec to some specific combat thing. I'm speaking to what's the most fun, what gives me the most options in any given scenario, because there are because there are so many options, yes, exactly, but there are so many occasions where it's what you were complaining about, the reason why you kind of just ham and egged your way through it is that if you have like speech and barter, and you know sometimes would be like science or repair or repair or medicine, that will open up these other options for you with a dialogue and as well as like uh yeah, but a lot of a lot of those decisions you don't have to make in the moment. There's a lot of those where you're like, well, I'll come back. I'm not ready to do this right now, So I don't just murder this dude because I'm not good enough at medicine to fix him. I cannot amputate this guy's Like, but even just having full speech and having pretty good barter, like I was able to get through so many situations without firing a shot. Get just seek some great dialogue options watch some some amazing scenes play out, and I really enjoyed that. And having the companions means that I don't really have to fight. I've got i've got the two dudes, I've got to I've got casts, and I've got the dog Rex, my robot dogs. You're not spending much time in vats then, or whenever I fight, I'm in vats. But but I don't have to, like you're saying, you don't have to, I just hang back. Literally, they will do the killing. You have to worry about that they get incapacitate. They can get incapacitated, but they cannot dine. So it's one of those like like they'll fall down. And there's definitely some like kind of tough parts where I'm like, okay, they're after each wave of enemies. They're pretty much done, but I'm okay, so I'll let them. They're basically just like a weird another level of shield as well as attack. Uh, going back to the being able to like not make that decision on the in the moment. In the moment, Alpha Protocol has a timer. Oh no, I know. Oh it's so good. It's just like no right now, Oh man, there's so many times where I'm just reading the things that hit the second uh, like I'll leave it on execute or something. Oh wait, I went to the one. Uh that is Oh man, that's good. That's good stuff. The bad part, like you were saying about uh enough protocol compared to New Vegas, is there are totally situations where they're like, we don't care what's spec you are, You're gonna have to fight this guy, like you know, and you're like, dude, I am like I'm a stealth dude, and now I'm going up a dude who stabs you with knives just runs. This guy has rockets that I'm going up against. The helicopter, the telecop do Yeah, it's like what do you? What do you? What did you do to me? Why would you do this to me? So yeah, I wish, but but high recommendation for Alpha protocol your you. You definitely reminded me and it makes me want to and revisit Grain of Salt. But yeah, I don't know if they patched in a lot of stuff about the gumpany because that's something I heard a lot, was like you have a radical radicule and you're you're aiming at dudes and bolts are just whizzing by their head. That's something I remember hearing a lot. Yeah, I just I just I didn't find that stuff compelling and I thought it looked really ugly. There was there was there was a confluence of things where I'm like, I just don't want to I got really invested, to admit it, wind up playing through it on Saturday Sunday just to sit down play throughs, and I don't know, a load of fun. I also just was just reminded that I love the world to fall Out. This is a fun world. I was like, yeah, I'm happy to be back here. This is like especially like because when you first start that game, one of the perk options is wild Wasteland, which is basically just weird shit is gonna happen while you're out in the wasteland and and you know it's just gonna make your experience goofy. I'm like, yeah, I want goofy. You are you are a pro wild Wasteline because staunchly, but that is a device have perked from what I've read. You know, people who take fall Out serious, Like dude, they were making money Python references and fucking fall Out too, all right, the goofy dumb nerds stuff is inherent to fall Out. Can't be that serious. I think that they can. They can have good drama, and there is good drama in fall Out New Vegas, but I want crazy shit. I just want stuff to jump off at all times. It's a it's a the best most memorable things, and I haven't played through all of it. It was one of my games. I definitely wanted to jump back into Over the Break and never got to. But that the best moments for me are when you meet the bizarre, like you want the bizarre, like the weirdest dudes out in the waste lessens. Yes, Oh so you must have met the guy? My favorite dude from fall Out, And again, I haven't made it through the whole thing, and I'm probably not nearly through the whole thing. Was the guy for the mission fucking I can't remember his name. That the aliens that come down, the Invisible, the Invisible Mutants, Oh, the night Kin. Yeah, the first time you meet the night Kin dude? Oh, please tell me you met that guy? No, he's the guy. There's basically like cows, whether they call the cow, was there the brahmin are getting I met him. I didn't follow up on that threat. I need to go back. I need to go back. I know you're talking. He's pretty good. I love the the yes man robot. I think he is the voice work on that character is in the beginning. No no, no, no no no. You beat him after you get to the strip. Okay, I might be before that. I just like, I did you find Benny? I don't remember who Benny is, and he's the guy who shoots you in the face at the beginning of the game. Check it, dude, Okay, then this is after that. See. I don't know if like the Fallout games are great because it's the way I played fall Out three was I just never did the main story question until the end. Yeah, I mean that's how you play all the thos two games, right, yeah, kind of by you, I mean everybody like they put a path in front of you, and you head where the way points, not pointing, like that's just kind of how I go. My only my only slide against Fallout New Vegas right now is that I feel like I've reached a point, like I've been playing in a pretty specific way of like I want these guys like I want to align myself with these guys. I don't like these guys, and so I want to start putting things into play to get in a certain direction. But I feel like the only options that are apparent to me right now, and like I've got like, you know, seven or eight missions of available to me in different states of undoneeness, I feel like the only option for all of them is fucking kill everyone, and like that's not how I'm playing, and I'm not how I'm want to play. I'm I am a chatty dude, i am not the murderer. I'm not a murk. But it's it's it seems like it's the most apparent thing. So I'm it's kind of reaching a point where like because I was moving and like cranking through missions and getting a lot of good stuff done, and I've kind of I've hit a little bit of a wall. Yeah, a little bit, Ladies and gentlemen. While Drew has appeared Wasteland indeed, indeed, fourth chair coming in, Drew Scanlon, thanks for joining us here. Make time out of your busy prepping. First CES is schedule. Yeah, you go to seance and I'm not fucking awesome score for you make the new Jacks go young bloods. Yeah that will Smith go earn their stripes? Hey, did you guys ever hear Cities Xcel? Yeah? I played some of that. I heard that. It was he it was. It was an MMO that then went free to play, all right, it was. It was subscription based originally, even though it's all like instance, it's basically like you're talking about City of Heroes. No, no, no, it was some kind of online collaborative something there was. It was supposed to be like connected and everything like in the in the beta was there was a beta period, Yeah, I can see that, but this is a totally single player experience. I had its complete sim City just fu want sim City. The idea was it was supposed to be like connected sim citys, but it guys next to you in sim City, like that's an actual person, but it's but it's it's I think it's supposed to be also like super It was at the time supposed to be super instanced. So it was one of those it's it's one of those things where they were trying to use the MMO, uh like you know, pricing pay model, but didn't. I necessarily have the tech to just I can see that because you on a single player account, you build your city, and then you can build another city and another city like in separate games, and then have them trade with each other. So maybe that's where that would like come in. But it's weird because it looks so good, like you zoom into like street level and you're like, oh, that looks like kind of like Grand Theft Auto, and then you roll it out and you're like, oh man, I'm building these residential zones, industrial zone, commercial zone. I'm just waiting for the little sim dude to pop up from SNS like the cartoon will write, yeah, so it's but it's just straight up oh dude, sim City. It was so sim City. I love. I love the sim City has gotten to the point that if you want sim City, you gotta go somewhere else, like it's yeah city behind, So now somebody else has come and picked up. I'll tell you. Once they started getting into like water pipes, like that's where the last it lose me. Like sim City, it's too much, it's too confusing. I can't keep up with it. I liked it when it was. When it's it's just simple, like the grids are simple and easy. At a certain point the grid, it's too easy for the grids to get away from you in like some city two thousand. Uh, well, this is like, it's the same problem I've had every Sim City game since I think the Commodore sixty four. Traffic I can't I can't deal it. I'm not good at traffic. Can't deal traffic. I just I make my small city and then at some point the city grows too big, and then I have to figure out a solution to traffic because the roads that I had connecting these four blocks now does not support You have to think, and you have to remember that your small town isn't always going to be a small town. It just uses public transportation all the time. So it's yeah, actually, actually that was always my way of playing Sim Cities. I'd always just use rail everywhere. I'd just put no roads down. So now you could do subways. You could do subway subways in Cities Excel, and you could run them underneath cities. But it's weird because you do this. That's weird. Oh man. Anyway, Cities Excel was that a steam cell, So that was a steam cell okay, and then explains a lot. Yeah. So then there were a couple of other things. I think it was a Steam cell and there were a couple of other things. That was just I think what I remember you telling me, I bought never Internet's two again. It's not like the third time you probably game. But now it was like whatever Steam sales stuff. I'll just say everything's ninety nine at this point. At this point it's world like a convenience purchase. Yeah. I don't even have to find the disc anymore play it. But I'm want to say that you even already owned that, and this is like this is oh, this was the gold Editions. This was the one with all the expansion packs and everything, and which I heard were pretty good. So maybe it'll read my save. I don't know you'll play that ever. Actually whatever, if you're playing CDs XCEL, there's a chance you totally might play. He played some games. Kanan Lynch two on the PC was as Steam sale. That was what did you think of Kane Lynch too? I didn't put it up. I played sale. Well, then tell me, don't tell me what you bought played. I'm trying to think of what else I played over. It was just it was yeah, for the first time I ever played it. Yeah, I bought that that's fun. Yeah, I think it's better think Katan. I know that that's controversial position to take, but I would rather play Alex here said there. I don't know they're I have other backers. I know that they both board games first. Yeah, German board games. German board games specifically hardcore. That style of as was to Ride, which I really enjoyed. Ticket to Ride. Ticket to Ride is actually the one of those that I think I would enjoy playing the board game version. Yeah, that one's really fun. I think the other like I got played Gaton in meat Space Wait, way too much shit going on, way too much shit going on, and the little things and like haven't trying to set up your your routes and all that stuff. Carcassone is a lot more relaxing of the three. It's the most like on Carcasson, Like I can't imagine playing that on tabletop just because of like where you have the oh just like positioning of like oh, well everything's expanding off to the upper right. Yeah, it's just like the whole tape like slide it like shifted real fast, but more of the like the flowers, you can't put this farmer here because they're I already have a farmer, but trying to match up if he's contiguous with the rest of these, like just kind of the the placement of things on it, like, oh, it seems like there'd be a lot of room for error of yeah that and scoring. Yeah, just like oh, this is he's actually touching the four walled cities here, so it'd be like, well, no, he's a fifty year Like, I don't know. It's not so hard to say when it's there in front of you, But I don't understand, like once the score tally has come up, like well, like the land the land one specifically, I'm like, I really don't. I put a dude down in what I think is a good location and hope for the best, but I really don't understand how how that that part of the scoring Specifically, it's the number of completed castles that his contiguous land touches, right, and he could be the only one on there unless there were unless you started another guy and they got joined later on, right, and then you split it down the middle, right, Uh, the same ring if you're playing by like US or europe rules. I love that part, like you won't play by US rules because it's fucked up because the European rules are weird. No, they seem like the most generous US rules were messed though. Did you turn off smoothing? No? I didn't know if you could. Is there an option? Uh? So that I played that? That was fun? Uh sounds good. I'm trying to think what else. I feel like there was more, but it's a lot expansion. Yeah, I didn't. I didn't. Actually, does that come with it? You have to buy it? I think it comes with It's just an option. It's it's I think it's just one of those. If you're a Carcassone purest of like, no, fuck the Riverons expansion. No, I only play pure Carcassone. So I always played with the Riverson Back to the Future bt t F the game. Hate seeing that written. I don't even like its episode one, episode one, just no bt t F. Yeah, I'm not a fan of that acronym. Yeah, it just looks like what it is was my best friend or something like. It just looks like it looks it looks like an am acronym. Yeah, I don't like it. It looks like but it's no good to btt Yeah, well I'll see you next Friday or something, well taken, sir. Uh that game yep, I played through it as well. I like you like when it first boots up and it's just the opening little yeah. Yeah. Even that font dude, well even you're right, even the fucking fonts yea, even them getting that. Even the fact that there's a like a law firm in Hill Valley named after the screen writers of Back the Future. That yes, it's Zamacus Gale And I think it's the name of the guy who wrote for tell Tale, so that okay, it's Bob's mecas Bob Gale. Who are this? This the screenwriters of the films? Then I think might the third might be the the tell Tale guy. There's also a total like local shout out when they're in the nineteen eighty six and Marty is outside uh Edna's apartments. Yeah, there there's a storefront for a for an arcade, which there's that that arcade exists in uh Marine County, like a few miles away from ware Tail Tales located, so bananas that has to just be a specific shout out to to that arcade which I saw that one. Well, that's awesome. I live in Hill Valley, so I know where that is, and that's in Hill Valley. How I live in Hill Valley. I have to I have to know. I haven't played it. Yeah. Does the storyline of this integrate plausibly with storyline of the movie? Ye? Does it all make sense? I don't know. There's confusing parts. Don't ask too much. I mean, does it happen in parallel because it takes place like after we were talking about time travel serious Back to the Future three? Yeah, all that stuff is Okay. I was mistaken. I thought I had read somewhere that had happened like in parallel with movie, and they're there, they're having their fun with it's time travel. Okay, Yeah, there are already there's already, like the sneak peek at episode two, there's already like things that you did in this episode, you're gonna have to sneak around yourself. But but at the outset the movies have happened. So so the setup for this is that doc is missing, like as as in the end of episode three, the third one, but it's eighty six. Yeah, so it's been it's been like six months. He's been stuck in a computer for twenty years. Yeah, so he's gone and they're having the state sale of his of his you know, his house or whatever. Uh and then basically kicks off from there. So yeah, it takes out, takes place right after the series left off, and fake Martinie Fly is excellent. Man, I saw those YouTube videos of that voice actors. Great, he continues to be It's better than real Christopher Lloyd. So maybe maybe you should pull out that guy's demo real he does. I think he does a really good Morpheus as well, Like he does a lot of a lot of good imitation. I think it was Morpheus, like a lot of crazy imitations. So the thing I really appreciated was that one thing looks they're not holding the cartoonist cannon. Great, they're no flying around on their time travel train with the he was married, right and then the cartoons he's still he's still married in this he's he's they keep they talk about that's fine because that was in the movie about the kids. Yeah, Emma is that her name? Clara? Clara right? So uh yeah, so the time travel Yeah, that the kids don't say they get referenced, do they? Yeah, Okay, because he talks about like trying to find a good college for Jules and Verne because they're in his timeline wherever, whenever the fuck Doc lives never he's just man. But what I'm saying, like, this version of Doc has teenage boys who are going to go to college, and they're talking about sending them to like, you know, nineteen sixties Berkeley or like some other like basically finding the best universities in time. So the weird thing about this game, I will say, I'm really enjoyed it, but there it's a time travel. Back to the Future is a time travel the series which you should not try and poke a stick at or like try and figure out what's going on because it's a movie. Hold behind the curtain. Don't even think about it too. If he's too hard about the logic of the time travel, it's fucking retarded. Uh. The DeLorean got smashed by a train in with eighty five, Dolrian comes back. Florian's here. They they explain it away. I didn't get it. They do because he had as a dream where something happens, but then it happened in reality is No. No, that had nothing to do with any of it. Okay, that they talk about the basically in nineteen fifty five when the lightning strikes in nineteen fifty five, when he's flying in the lightning strikes. I don't think I got this back to the future too. Basically it created a there's a second to Lorian what it is? What do they talk about? That? Which one of the dollg options. You know he's gonna talk to Doc about all sorts of shipways in prison. Oh I didn't talk to about all he was in prison you're talking about? Oh no, really, yeah, dude, we gotta go play it again. You go play it again. You missed out on all sorts of stuff. Oh that's crazy. Oh no, because yeah, I didn't understand where how that was happening. Yeah, dude, all all of your questions are very quickly kind of strugged with, like, well, this is the second story. What do you want both? Dude? Love the opening the opening scene, oh, the from the view of the camp quarter. No, no, no, even just even just like I don't know. So the very first scene in that movie or in that game is the like mall parking lot from from from the first movie is JP Penny, JP panny whatever, they're fake j h, it's it's it's the parking lot scene from the first Back to the Future, and they're actually they're just recreating that scene but at certain prompts, as Marty, you are getting dialogue prompts. You have the actual dialogue from the film, plus like two other alternate takes. I chose the movie dialogue all of those. So I'm like, I don't I don't want to break this. I don't want to like what happens if what happens if we just keep going on the actual and then it spins off and goes crazy from there. But which, So did you just choose the the true movie? I did during the we did the quick look here, and I did it during that. Yeah, But then at home when I played it again, I trust different ones. But well, you know, it was also the same thing. I'm like, wait, this isn't right, and it's like, wait, this isn't right, But you know, it's that game is a Telltale adventure. It's an adventure game. I was waiting to hear because I saw I saw a screenshot with some Match three stuff going on, and oh no, that's the that's the Facebook game. That is nothing okay, that was on their site. Yeah, okay, but this is like, yeah, this is okay. It's it's a tell Tale. It's specifically a tell Tell adventure game. They've done nothing to the mold. Same same length as everything else, but actually seems a little shorter than something like I might I might just go home and play through that tonight. It's it's totally like one or two sittings, very easy. I need to play that the zunes. The only thing I didn't like the look of it's really good. I didn't. I didn't like the uh it was one of the last quote unquote puzzles the chemistry set thing though, that was one on a little too long turn this knob, Yeah, that was It's that's it's the most gamy I felt of all the things in that episode. I like how they couch it and that was kind of fun, the kind of clever, but I just like at this point, I also I kind of like where they're going with the story. But in a way, I hope they change it up a little bit. I hope, I hope locations change and some stuff. I'm you know what, I'm totally happy to just go to a variety of different eras of that same hill, valley, downtown. That's fine. I just don't want to stay in the same era with the same character. Yea, yeah, no, no, I expect I expect more time. I hope it's not. I hope we don't have to wait for you know, season two to change every But yeah, I'd left a good first impression. I I just wanted to say though. Right after I finished that, I dove into Puzzle Agents, which is which is very much not I. I actually I've enjoyed the hell and I'm still still playing it, but really enjoying that game because of the ways in which it is not a super typical tell Tale adventure. It is more like Layton. But there's things about it that it just distills like puzzle games and adventure games just down to like the very basic. There are things about it, the way that animations don't happen that just give you just we don't need to watch this guy fucking walk over and open the door. You click on the door. Next scene, you know you want to talk to guy, click on him talking puzzle time, hit the puzzle. It's just like all the little steps are like, well, you gotta wait for the guy to walk over here and then you can talk to him, or oh, you gotta you know, traverse this. There's just the time spent like trying to make this look like a place or something. That puzzle agent is just not concerned about it. But then it's acted, but it's it's got great, great voice working it. The puzzles are very latenty in kind of self contained little logic puzzle any match stick puzzles close, close, but also kind of same weird thing of like this town loves puzzles. Yeah there's a puzzle town. Yeah, which why? Which is why? Which is why you're called out because you're aready puzzle for the FBI. But that character is great. His weird dreams are super fun. The sheriff is is great. That's part of their pilot programs. So I have my dubts about them doing more of them, but I I urge you to check it out. Available on I phone, iPad, it's on PC and get all sorts of different ways of PC and MA out there. I wish the art style supported an HD monitor a little better because it's a it's a little blurry bitmapped, right, so they're just kinda have to scale it up. It's yeah, well it's looks look like it's weird. It looks like somebody drew it. It's like it's a lot of sprites. It's a lot of sprites, but a lot of sprites that they do like close up shots on a dude that you know, when you're at full distance, it's fine, but then when you get really close, it almost looks like a pencil drawing scaled up or something. Yeah, yeah, it's it's something like that. So but I yeah, I was really enjoying, uh puzzle Asian. I can't quite remember all the other stuff, but I'm gonna well, you know what, there are two other things. I'll start with Pigsies perfect ten for Enslaved. Yeah, yeah, tell me, I get fantastic. This is a good piece of DLC. This is uh, how is it compared to the rest of the game, because I played some Slaved and it didn't really it's better. Okay, I liked some of Enslaved, but it's it's it's different and you should try it. Okay, but before you put Enslaved back on the shelf, it's not on the shelf. It was just I started playing, and then I said, I gonna start playing Fallout because that's what I really want to play. Uh, and Slaved is kind of a slow bird. I was pretty iffy on it until about chapter four, probably because I've liked some of the stuff that's been happening, but it's like no interest in the combat. Yeah, the combat gets a lot better as you buy more stuff. Okay, I haven't gotten to a point where I can buy shit. Oh dude, you're nowhere then, okay at all. Yeah, it's I'm running around the city and fighting robots and I got the girl and the combat gets pretty good on her stand over there. Yeah, the momentum builds and then it gets real fast and then for me it's just kind of hit a wall at the end. But the pigsies stuff, Uh, it's such a it's such a nice little it's charming as fucking It's it's a weird thing to say for that character in that universe because it seems kind of charmless. Uh, it's got a real weird aesthetic. Yes, I like it. It's really weird. It's weird. It's weird about it. It's like the tribal retro futuristic. Like it's I think it's it's plausible though as like it doesn't really it's it's odd because it hits a lot of familiar notes but at some kind of weird angles. The Pigsie stuff seems a little more steam punkish like that he takes his whole thing takes place in like a big junkyard of robots and stuff. Uh. The cinematics and Pigsies perfect ten. Maybe my this is a bold statement, maybe my favorite cinematics I've ever seen, Like the stuff that I don't think they're happening in any kind of engine. I think they're pre rendered. Yeah, it seemed like it from what I saw, But they are. They're gorgeous. And then and they the emotion that they carry through it is fantastic, uh, Like visually, like stylistically, they've got like this paint early thing going on, almost like it almost looked like a watercolor or something to me. Yeah, but but not but but also really sharp. Yeah, and it's like aided by a computer basically. And then the colors they use are great. It's really and then you know, I think we've said it before. The characters in that game are so well rendered in the face and stiff. I even the brief like maybe not even an hour that I played enslaved I was not impressed by character design, but very emmoting, very impressed by the character performance, by by by the performance, and also just how quickly they were able to establish these characters. Yeah, that game wastes no time. Like you, I know what this guy's about, I know what she's about. Go I mean I don't know. I know literally nothing else about the world around them. Everything else is a complete mystery, and a lot of it seems to be the case for them. But I have those characters like everything about that game, like, at least narratively, like they do so much with such a spare economy of dialogue. And I mean not to not to name drop too much or whatever, but you know, Alex Garland, who is a pretty successful screenwriter, wrote all that dialogue and stuff. So yeah, I think the character stuff is great, the overall narrative story, I mean particular, but the characters stuff and just the way that they play with their eyes and smiles and looks and the tones of their voices when they're doing things really sells that entire universe and Pigsy the Perfect ten like really hits all that stuff, turns it up even more than the game does. I was really really impressed. And the game play is different enough. That's that's the crazy part. It's like kind of a different game. Yeah, so you play as him obviously, you play as Pigsy, who you don't play as in the game at all. And in the game you play as the guy Monkey, who is a well versed at hand hand combat, very heavily muscled and acrobatic and like swings on and Pigsy can't do handhand at all. Like Pigsy is like a squat little fat dude who like needs rappling hook to get around and stuff. So you use gadgets and stuff and uh and your sniper riffle a lot better. Yeah, man, I really really really enjoy that. A good play through that tonight. Uh yeah, damn you. It's worth it just to check out those cut scenes. Like I said, they're gorgeous. They are really striking. And maybe I was just on some kind of ham induced you know, fantasy trip or something at that point in the break, but I was really blown away. I played a little bit of enslaved in three D did you have? Uh so when you install that pigsy deal, so it patches the game to make you have a three D TV. No, it's TRIOVI. Well actually they have like what whatever the term is for, like the shutter assisted like actual somebody helped me here. I don't know what the name is for that, like real three D whatever whatever people call actual three D that you need a special TV for. Yes, it has support for that. Well one hundred and twenty hurts. Yeah, thing like THEE or whatever that stuff's called. And they have the one where it's like that just if on your TV, it just looks like two. Like that's the one I'm talking about where you need the special TV and the powered glasses and all that stuff. But you just used the blue and it has it has Trio viz, which is instead of blue and red, it's like magenta and like a forest green or where do you get those glass? They send us pair of glasses. Okay, I think you probably get them from anywhere, like you cut them out of magazine if they if they included them, how it didn't work? It worked, it was three D. But it gives it that it gives it like the sort of weirdly like the colorations it gives us gives this tone of like stuff kind of looks magenta and kind of looks a little too green, like it messes up the colorization. We should maybe do we take a quick look at pigsies per We should definitely do that because that sounds awesome, Because I feel like a lot of people won't try it out because it maybe they got enough of enslaved during it and it's it's probably worth a look. I still think a lot of people are hearing about and say it for the first time during a lot of the Game of the Year conversations, not just not just on Giant Bomb, but on other bag it is, but nice pigsies perfect ten Is it as much a mixed bag as the phrase mixed bag? No? No, if you're a fan of prash bags fans of mixed bags, Uh, but perfect tenant is pretty damn good. Cataclysm you mean the world of Warcraft? Yes, Cataclism played a bunch of that. What I know you start from one? I did? I started? Did you playing more other games than I did? And also play a bunch of while like this doesn't uh? You know? I was and I went into this. You were in a North Carolina ham comb the entire time. I went into this break being like, I don't think I'm ever gonna don't think I'm gonna play any games this break. I'm just gonna take a break, like from games. So you thought that it's funny because we had a we had a guild up, the jump Pomp Community Guild, and Dave and Andy were playing a bunch of it and a bunch of other really really nice folks on it that I don't communicate with that at all pretty much because I just want to play by myself. And so like, uh, I go through and I like level thirty something almost forty, and I think I might be kind of done. It's you know, that's enough has been said about World of Warcraft. Have to go into it. But that's how I spent a good portion of my time. But you like the how do you feel about what has happening in Cataclysm? I mean it's I'm not the one to ask. I don't know. It seems like World Warcraft to me. Okay, well, I mean you didn't be fair. You didn't get to any of the new high level content. No, and I don't even like the world seems I care more about, like what has changed in the low level come right, But that's not cataclysm because everybody got that, that's true. But like that stuff for me, even that stuff, you know, the rending of the world or whatever, like I don't notice it, So I like, I don't know, had you played through it before this? I hit sixty my other character, but like, I don't know. It's like these zones, I just feel like I might be in the wrong place, Like oh yeah, I think this is okay, this not underwater last time? That makes sense? Then I guess sure. The only thing I know is there's been enough time. That's and things aren't aren't Like were these orcs always in this place? Like oh no, that's the one thing I did notice actually, like the shifts of controlled areas where uh those are things I really remembered where I must have like this this used to be a choke point for where or like these were just yeah, elves were in uh this area and then controlled it and now you go through there. I'm playing as a hoard character, like, oh dude, this is just orcs strip mining this entire eleven forest and like that's that's pretty cool. Like they're just burning it to the ground and basically very uh but forever forever, yeah, never run out of resources constantly. They've got the phasing stuff now, so sure imagine stuff like that. It's not going to those areas that are now controlled by the Horde versus the Alliance. I guess. Yeah, so I don't know. It's it's World of Warcraft and you know, you want to go kill things and collect things. And I saw television commercial for World of Warcraft. Oh yeah, they've been running comercials for three years ish or more. They can do whatever they want. I mean for Cataclysm specifically, yeah, uh uh, they call it Cataclysm your hand on. I think my one month runs out the ninth or tenth. Well, we'll see'sticking. I'll forget about it and they'll charge you fifteen. Yeah, you're you're going to be subscribed for the next year and at least we'll check in with Vinnie in December see how his Cataclysm games going. Drew Scan, Hey, how you doing, sir? Good? Did you get to play much games over the break? A little bit? I spent most of my time in Tahoe where all my old systems are right, Yeah, is that where the pinball machine is. That is where the pinball machine is. But we we have staples that we get up to up there. You got your go tows. Yeah, let's see we four hooked up up there. Oh yeah, so Mario Kart Golden Eye obviously, but so four your your mar Kart go to Oh yeah yeah yeah. Do you have a super Nintendo entertain So I've got a Genesis, a sixty four, a Dreamcast, and a twenty six hundred. It's good spread. Uh yeah, and uh let's see that's about it for sixty four stuff. Genesis is usually make a bomber Man and to jam earl okay, uh. Twenty six hundreds usually just Warlords. Nice, but we have the paddle, so it's the paddle. So it's so good. It's all good. Yeah. So if you had Warlords the entire time, no, So I recently, well maybe like six or seven years ago, picked up the Centari because I had when when I was a kid, but it was sold and then I bought this one with like fifty games, so and it came with Warlords. Yeah, it was a good, good spread. I mean fifty games, you're gonna get just about everything. Yeah, I got also ET. Wow, you're gonna get you get fifty games, you're gonna end up with ET. Nine of them are gonna there's a good chance you're gonna end up the copy of Empire Strikes Back. I don't think I have that one. That's a good one. Yeah, shoot the things in. But that's that's that's the first hot level. Wow, it's the first game. First in the whole game is the hot level. That's all that game is is four bar loop of dude did have music? Yeah? I think so you're seeing the Superman theme. No, you know what, I think you're seeing the Tron theme. You're seeing like eight different themes. You went around the world to not get to the star Star Wars theme. I was just eight action get the Superman and the Star Wars. So it's all John Williams bombastt shits just John. It's like, all right, that's it. Go to cello out. We had forty nine instruments for this Warlords. That's a good version of Warlords. Yeah, yeah, I like it. That's that's solid. H What else? What else were you playing on? Uh? Let's see the Dreamcast is usually crazy Taxi and Rush twenty forty nine. Oh man, No, Choo Shoot Rocket don't have that one the best of all party games on the Dreamcast. It's okay. I love choot Rocket. I actually played in chot Rocket not that long ago. It's you have a heart attack playing Chooche. It's madness, it's so much. It's but it's not a great party game, because a great party game is something you can play for a long periods of time. Choot Rocket you can get like two games. You're like, all right now, my every sense is completely shot. That's still a good party game. No, I have to go close my eyes and be in a dark room. I have no longer interested in party because they fried out. They still need to put that out for Live Arcade and PSN. I don't disagree with that. But Power Stone two was always my multiplayer go to game. It's a good one. Yeah, it's a good one. What else? Uh, Well, when I got back to the bay, I played some Rock Band three finally. I mean I touched it a little bit when we had it in here, but my brother got it for Christmas. So keyboards all of of the place. Yeah, multiple keyboards, No, just just the ones. We had one guitar and I'm like dueling pianists kind of action. Yeah, well even with the guitar, because you can use the guitar to do the Yeah. So I found out expert bass with the keyboard is actually really fun. Oh no, I was. When I was doing the review, I was playing almost all the guitar parts on the keyboard controller just because I was enjoying it so much. Yeah, it's fun. It's a fun controller to use. Yeah, with the bass. I like the bass because there's not a lot of chords, right, so it's just a lot of like with your fingers, And that's cool because you can actually do it. Ony chords. Chords are hard, Yeah, chords the keyboard or that's what That's what I kind of start losing is I have to start moving my hand around on the keyboard because it's like I could use these these four it's the pinky finger. You're trying to make me make chords with that, and it gets real bad. So I end up moving around a lot. That was good. We bought uh, let's see, we bought band on the run, that's right, that just came out. Huh and Huet a song by a German band that I'm a fan of called the band's called versin Helden and the song is called NeuRA on vod. I might have gotten that that might have been Was it a free song? I don't think so. I thought it in the recommended I was like, oh man, wow, they occasionally just have some weird shit in there. Although now that Harmonics is independent or something whatever, whatever their current situation is, I'll be curious to see how that affects. Yeah, previous still change. There's sort of licensing delC stuff. I guess. I guess not. It sounds like Harmonics runs and owns and has all the contracts for that stuff, like and TV was not necessarily materials. I think they made like public assurance that it would be business as usual, right, really, I think they did. But I just wonder if, if if that will mean anything for the types of music, because I was still because I definitely got the sense that there was some stuff that was coming out DALC wise. That was just like somebody was Yeah, someone in a in a business room some A and r G. A finger was pointed and said this must be done. You know what's hot? This saying we'd rather know. I was like, this is what you're gonna be doing? So I will say it again that harmonics or rock band pass is what I would love to have with all that DLC at this much sticky licensing, I'm sure sure, But like even like like Drew, like I'm sure like if you were able to just put down fifteen dollars for like access to the entire library, you don't keep it, but he's just able to play all the DLC whatever for a month or something like that, Yeah, then they would make some kind of less money. Also, also that stuff they just don't buy it. You know. Those songs are also sizeable enough that playing them on demand would be kind of I guess you couldn't just like click song and play it right now? Yeah, I guess what all the different tracks and the most most consumer internet connections. I just feel like with all the deal, see, I'm overwhelmed at this point. I can't even look through the lists, just like, Oh, I don't know if I look through the list, because I have all of it just you just have it on already auto. I already bought. Oh god, I have hundreds and hundreds of fucking songs in rock band that I have. You have it all on your own hard drive, dude, even even Guitar Hero because I did all of the disc imports for Guitar Hero. Like my Guitar Hero a library if anyone ever wants to play a Guitar Hero game again, hundreds of songs and play some rock band that ham fucking play some rock bands lose. The first one out has Ham and rock band party at Ryan's house. Ham Band, Let's go. Everyone's invited rock Ham byo Ham. I don't want, I don't can't bring my own man. Uh so little little sounds like he did a lot of good social gaming. Yeah, yeah, you know, brothers and sister holidays. Yeah. I also taught my dad had a play Save five and how did that go? Well? Yeah? Uh he has not played a video game since uh Pga Tour on the Genesis Okay, still my favorite golf game. But we try to get him to play like calf Diddy two and it didn't go well at all. So this was like, wow, well he I mean, we're like a board game family, and I thought that that might translate well to Save five absolutely, and it totally does. I totally see that. Yeah, I mean five is like a complicated Katan, so yeah, if you can handle that then you can easily graduate up. Yes, that was kind of cool, excellent. It's always fun to I was happy that I was able to turn h you know Whiskey media benefactor Shelby Bonnie on TOO S five and that motherfucker's crazy about it. Yeah, dude loves him some sp five anything else true, That's about it, Brad Shoemaker, what do it does? It did? What happened? It got done? It got did what? No? Cali played some stuff? Would you play? Man? I, Brad, let's talk honestly about tront evolutions. Speak frankly on the sensitive issue. I think it's that said, it's not very good. It's not a very good game. V gotta love him. So yeah, I have too completion. I'm about halfway through it. I might finish it. You're past the well before it goes back to game fly. Jeff gave me some good advice. I don't know if he if he aired to this publicly, but play a bunch of the multiplayer and then come back to the story because yeah, because it's easy as ship to level and multiplayer and you bring that experience back to the single player. You know, I tried to play the multiplayer. Yeah, I couldn't find any games. Really, I had zero problems. When was when did you play during the break? Okay? I started playing it two days ago, three days ago, so this is very recent. I mean I found like one. I was like a week and a half earlier. So unless the drop off was that sudden and hard, there was lots of full games to get into. I got into like the kind of basic death match what was it called disintegration or something for anyway, like the basic kill other Guys mode. Yeah, there were games, but I want to try the other modes because you know there's some chie want to see what they were. I did light cycle stuff that was actually the most fun. I had him like, yeah, not only could I not find games running in those modes, but I sat there and created a game and let it idle and never never got enough people to start a game. So I don't know. Game's not super great, it's not good. It's and you Ryan, you haven't seen the movie. I still haven't seen the movie. It's done again twice. I might go to the Imax tonight while you go and play the play enslaved and I will go see Tron alright, So Brad, having seen the movie. Are you at least getting some like good story hooks out of it? I'm getting some story hooks. Okay. Brad told me that he felt the game made the movie worse. I think I may have. I may have back pedaled on that stance a little bit, but like ruining a little bit hard, Okay, the deeper and I get although there's one Well you haven't seen the movie yet, did you see. Yeah, there's one. Pivotle with you. That's right, you were to the evening he took my spot. That's right, that's right, there's one. There's one scene from the movie that the game recreates very poorly, which an engine kind yeah, yeah, like with what's actually it's it's a CG cut scene, but it just doesn't look great and it loses a lot of the gravy toss from if Tron Legacy can can be said to have any of that. It's just yeah, just it's but it's really it's just the gameplay really yeah, the combat them I had issues with just like check pointing of like I just got through this really like kind of stressful combat. The game is fairly demanding with the combat. Yeah, especially early on when you're not leveled, yeah, especially then. But but there's just issues of like you'll go through a combat section and it's like, Okay, now it's time for a little jumping around section and it's like, oh, you ate it in the jumping around section go back to the beginning of the combat sections again. And it's like they were definitely like multiple times the first the first evening I was playing or I'm like, oh okay, I'm never playing you again then and just like quitting out the game like dashboard up, out gone, and I'm like, all right, I'm try so good, let me try. This is really pretty start style, like really shines thereat. But I mean that basically owes to the visual design of the movie, you know, because they just took that, but they were But yeah, it's done extremely well. But there's issues of just the like the controls are more precise than the gameplay really demands, which just makes it feel kind of twitch. You Like I find myself over steering and overcorrecting my guy a lot. Yeah, like jumping too soon because I thought I was gonna have to basically like predict what I was gonna do, right, if that makes sense. But there's some there's some good looking stuff in it. Yeah, like everything about it, Like there's the set like that. I don't know how many of the light cycle sequences you've seen some of those first one, but some of those are pretty Oh I thought the steering was The handling on that thing is awful. Well, I mean it's a light cycle. Pick your phone off that card. Have you ever driven a light cycle? They are they? Yeah, like I expect them to be squarely as shit, I guess, I guess. And also you you just go straight, are just well maybe a little bit right, maybe a little bit left, just kind of but I mean the one, the one I was playing where there's like stuff blown up around you and you have to quickly steer around stuff. Oh yeah, I ate it once or twice. And this I didn't have that much trouble with that the beginning at there there are check points, and that I mean the game is checkpointed. I just I think I just kept running into the occasions where it was not checked. There are a few of those. There's one where you have to fight like probably six or eight guys and then hit a couple of switches and then like the floor like the building you're in basically sort of starts de resing underneath you. Uh and every time, so basically like it literally like floor is just disappearing out from undergy without warning. Every time you die there you have to start before the combat, like fight all those guys again, go through all that stuff again, and like slow sucked. I don't know, I mean, it's like everything about it design wise is fairly sound that if they had just had a whole lot more time to like make the controls better and make everything kind of fit together better, like it would have been a decent action game. It's just jack Tar for a second, please do because I'm just gonna we're talking about checkpoints. Yeah, check points in my old age, in my in my cranky old gamer age, I really enjoyed checkpointed boss battles. There. You're like, oh, thank god, I don't have to do that first party game. You're just gonna start me from like the second life bar. Thank you, So you're gonna give me full health You're awesome game, or like oh, like it took me so long to get to like the third stage of you. Thank you for just starting me here. I know there was even a timer going, like you thank you're looking at game like, I feel like it's something that has as I've gotten older. It's just like I don't want to do that. I would have turned it off. Yeah, Mass Fact two pretty good at that. At the checkpointing, especially the last last level, I was like, oh my god, please don't die, especially at the surprise second life bar where you're like what, oh you to be I used all my health things first one, so there's no way I can do this. And then it's like, oh my god. It's like always they expect you to die, just like and then it's like a barrage of missiles out of it, like NIS or something like that. They're like what and you're like all right, and I just gonna checkpointing. Okay, I see now, okay, just makes way more. Yeah, we're back anyway. I just wanted to add that in for developers who don't mind seeking a checkpoint on boss battles and also on time sequences where there's a timer going and it's like they're never gonna checkpoint this, and they're like, oh, wow, you really did, and you give me like sixty more seconds, like good, good on, I got on the health pack. Sweet. Yeah, like you know what, I just want to beat your game, right, So I played through Toronto Evolution and played a couple hours of multiplayer and went back and scattered around for some achievements, and you know, I didn't. I didn't dislike it. I do think the art style carries a lot of it. I think that there are some yeah, something something can be cultivated. It's it's definitely. It's It's like with Alpha protocols. So seed there where you were. I'm like, I like where you're coming from, and I like where you're going, but it's where you are that's a little bit of a problem. Uh yeah, Like sometimes I'm not even sure what you have to do. But although I am not anything like Jeff, I have no aspirations to get the full thousand pots. He's crazy. He I saw him more of that game than I. That's that's that's Johnny V. Spie. He's almost maxed as level. So the backstory with that is that Johnny V was giving him shit back in the day for a Baller's review about the online multiplayer, where Johnny, I just wish that you had played more than multiplayer, and he's like, yeah, I tried to, and there was no one playing, so I literally couldn't so he wanted to show him. But I have played all of your games. I have the full thousand in your game. He did buy the DLC maps for the multiplayer I did. I tried. The first time I hit quick match in that game, it was like finding game, and then it was like, you do not have the required maps, Like why did you try to match me against a game? Yeah. I don't want to talk too much about about Jeff's I don't want to talk out of school about his proclivity towards that game, but he has He has said to me that his game that he plays more than it is worth playing. I know the feeling indeed dying. Man oh man, I StarCraft has StarCraft. I didn't really get to play it because I was not here. It's not in a place with a computer that would do it justice. Yeah, man, I had grand aspirations for this break. Yeah, like two hours a night before I left, like a massing games that I was gonna play. I had to CEU wallet out. You got your lists. I had put like a dozen games into that CD wallet, including the first Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect two and Bandetta. All this stuff. And then and I also got a sixteen gig us it was actually a little USB hard drive and filled it full of XBLA games because your dad's got a My parents have an Xbox that they use for DVD and Netflix and stuff. And flew across the country and realized I left my memory stick with profile and saved games on it at home. You can recover the profile. I recovered the profile, but all the save games were here, so I couldn't pick back up on anything that I had stopped, so I didn't really played much. It inspired you to play some new games, but not not a ton. I cracked into Pebe winter Bottom. A little bit drunk in North Carolina is not a bad way to be. So yeah, Instead, I got up on Christmas morning and it had started snowing profusely at eight am. And yeah, we got em snowed into my house. Awesome, A full liquor cabinet and ton of leftovers. It's got rained into my house. So I played. I played a bunch of DS, played a bunch of Pcross three d N So do you do you believe? It's pretty good? Good to hear? But I did have three days when I got back to play as much as I could and what did you stuff? Uh, let's see. Primarily released in terms of the most complete experience I had with anything, it was Dead Rising two Case West h Yes, which we recorded a quick look of and yeah, came out over the break look. I think on the side, I believe the last release of I think in twenty ten. Ohh like dick Bag Calendar was it was on the twenty ninth, wasn't it? Seven say when it came out? Yeah? Yeah? When did Milo? I Love Milo? Like no, I Love Milo was at the time of this recording, not officially out still not as the one where that's supposed to come out there like crazy, like clandestine, like speakeasy style, like like get the gym. It was the secret handshake and we might let you buy this game. But yeah, it's this week's XBLA release, Okay, right, because it was it was World and then Rascals and then Thanks. So yeah, that's right. I did play some of that. Did you play you were playing that? Well? We talked about that song before and it was cool. Yeah, it's got a nice music music, grade's got a really nice look too. It does again, I'll repeat what I said before, it does remind me of Cookies and cream for the for the Dreamcast an awful lot, another cute c co op game of that nature, although not as mind bending as Island My Life. I don't know, oh yeah yeah, oh, but even just like the yeah, the main menu tune that you can playing that is that might be the best achievement I have ever seen. It's my life really good. And then when you get it, because because it takes it took me a while, like find find the So there's a tune that plays over the main menu and every time catchy and it's very all the music in the game is super catchy. But every time you you go down to menu item, it makes a little plank noise, but they're actually the the the register for each plank as you go through them are pitched to match the background tune. So if you can figure out what the background tune is and and line it up, you are basically like kind of thumbing through the menu and playing along with the music. And it's such a good tune and when you do it completely correctly, you do a full iteration correctly achievement. I've always wanted an achievement like that. You basically end up playing the melody in time with the music. I used to do that in toe Jam and Earl with their like you can go and play like sound effects, like you could play samples of like claps and snares and stuff, and you can actually play one of the toe Jam Earle songs in that thing. But you know you played, nothing happens. But this is awesome. Yeah, and well this is and this is like way more simple because it's just like go down down yet and it's just a matter of like and it doesn't even matter what direction. It's just like switching from one to the other makes the noise. Can you guys? Hum a few bars? And I can't top of my head. I'm trying to know I had it because I just did that. I got another song from that game in my head right now. Well there was there was another one that I just I was on like one of the tutorial screens or something where it was looping in my house. Yes, yes, I made dinner too, the song from that game the other night. Yeah. They shouldn't let that run. They put out They put out like five or six tracks on their site. So did I And now I am obsessively getting all like unlocking all of the sound test music so I can like record it all because I don't think they've put the soundtrack out. But these two, uh, it's good stuff. They they ran an interview with the guy who did the music like super golf looking, dude, I saw that like long black bangs did not look like the happiest soundtrack, full of harmonicas, harmonicas and xylophones and kazoos. Yeah, it's it's amazing. Yeah, But anyway, zombies, I love zombies. Yes they're not. They're not zombies as far as I can tell. So big surprise. Case West is essentially and in terms of format it's another Case zero. Yeah. It's about two to three hours long, similar mission structure, similar map size, don'tate to own did rising too? Yeah, also a standalone double the price though it is like Case zero two or they realized this has this has like actual well I shouldn't say. I was gonna say it has like real fleshed out co op, but it's not the same cops. Just you're playing Case zero had zero had zero coop zero cop. You can hear me turn your microphone on Case Case zero had had no coop whatsever So you know that that's something that case West has to justify the higher price. But this one takes place directly after Dead Rising two and seemingly would wrap the story line up, but then they kind of leave you with more questions at the end. So I do really like how there is a there is a self contained bit of content that you can buy without the game that takes place directly before the game, and self contained bit of content that you can buy that takes place directly after the game, So you can pretty much get the beginning of the end, just miss all that middle part, avoid the maybe some some would say maybe tedious work in the middle of it. Dead I really like Dead Rising. I think the genius though of Zero and West is they get to the points that Dead Rising two gets to so much more quickly. Well just of like you know, item assembly like they I feel like they really stretch that stuff out like things like Discovery happens much more slowly. The whole track is accelerated greatly, it is, and that's great. I think that benefits the experience. I mean, it's absolutely valid to just play both of those if if you can live with not knowing the middle like eighty percent of the storyline. Yeah, you could just play those two if you want to kill some Yeah, that's totally fun. And Capcom is probably cool with that because they've got fifteen bucks from you. And I have to imagine making it five for and yeah, so fifteen total, but have to you have to imagine making those games was an economy of scale because they already did the work on the engine and most of the assets and stuff. It's just like stuff a couple more areas, do a little bit more view and stuff. Maybe some weapons that were left. There are some pretty There are a couple of pretty good weapons in this that are new. It feels easier to be fair. Yeah, there's no safe game import. You just by default start at level forty uh and level to fifty, which I did by the end of the first play through. And there's no like reverse import, right, like if you beat West, then like on your way through, you'll get a couple more Frank And Nope, you're listening to something that doesn't really it was good to have Frank West back to Frank West. Well he could they could drop like Frank West. I didn't play through all of Dead Rising two so I don't know if there is any Frank West, and they're all at all so they they it's weird. What's up there isn't right in two, it's definitely not the actually pick up, like the kind of the B tier ending from Dead Rising two not the best possible endings. Yeah, and uh kind of shoehorn him him into it and find a way to kind of parlay that into this little kind of well you recorded a quick look at you check that out. Zombie is dead because of that quick look. I'm not gonna lie. I I was a little put off by the guns. Better than that. I like what I like what case West. The guns are overrepresented in the quick look. I just kind of grabbed those for convenience. No no, no, I don't even mean you're using them. The enemies that yes, there are, there are You're so it's all set in this little facility. Yeah, it's like zombie research facility, and there are security guards everywhere shoot you constantly. That part, that part was what threw me off. But but again, when you already start a love forty, you're pretty powerful and it's not a huge deal. I just like the constant like wins, like oh, got hit the reset your animation, but lose your momentum, stripped so much else away from what makes dead rising to a shore, like you don't have to leave survivors around anymore. That's that's that's crazy. That's great, Like you save them and they're saved and that's it, figured their own way out. But yeah, I don't know, uh anything else bred get down, I don't think. I mean, went on some weird plans versus zombies binge yesterday, Uh done, slowly making my way through Professor Layton, uh three, the new one, Yeah, future Future, Yeah, that's probably. I played through Mi Nervous Den. Yeah, and then I finished my BioShock two game because I was on such a role. It does do that to you, right, like I feel like you guys will crazy. Well, it's no, it's because I think for me, uh like mirvous Den again, Mi Nervous Den does the same thing that like K zero Cased West does of the accelerated track where that game is maybe four hours long if that, But you go from you know, soup to nuts of zero zero, of having having nothing to having full plasmids maxed out everything. That's awesome, hardcore. It makes Manrvous Dan also easy. It's shit like when compared to to Buy Talk Too proper. But I felt like I learned things about about the gameplay, about what certain weapons did and and like their effectiveness, how to work in the especially like I played through my nerves then and went into BioShock too, and I'm sorry, I feel like I had a really good understanding of how to set up the traps and oh yeah, my trap, my trap laying was got a lot better. But even just stuff like like, oh, the drill is actually pretty good if you have the dash. With the drill dash, you could fuck it up because you get that in like thirty minutes in the DLC, right, but it's not super apparent, like the first time you use the drill in the main game, it's awful. Never using that, it's like, oh, well, so let's get away from the drills. But once you if you level up your drill stuff and get the drill dash, it's this like lock on fly across the world, one hit kill, badass move that's like, this is great. It was this all the time now, uh, And so it made playing through the rest of BioShock to a lot easier, so I could just appreciate the setting, the really high quality, high quality voice work throughout, Like, definitely, I see your points about my nerves Den, Like that's there's some great voice working there. But the voice working all of Botshock two is really top notch. And I just I liked not to harp on Minerva too much, but like they I thought they did some pretty interesting thematic stuff with that, Like, oh yeah, well was the one the one audiolog where the main character talks about like other guys asking him why he didn't splice himself white so he could get ahead in rapture society? Uh, that was that was interesting. The part where he there's a lot of stuff with the the AI where he has a little freak out scene. It's kind of like one of the last audiologs you find. Yeah, like I feel like that's really emotionally affecting. They had a good job of kind of wrapping this thing up and making it all come together. So yeah, I thought I thought that stuff was good. I thought that, you know, the gameplay was you know BioShock, it played the way that stuff plays. I was a little bummed out. So you know, you encountered this kind of rogues gallery of antagonists kind of like you do. Actually more more so on Minerve's Den than in BioShock two proper. I feel boss characters basically, and I didn't realize this till after fact, but there's totally a achievement for like letting them all live basically, Like there's a like you can choose to waste this dude or just walk away. There's you're talking about in BioShock too. I'm talking about it in Wait a minute, the guy in the giant vat wait, what was that you're talking? Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry. Well then I just it all ran together. I didn't care for that. That would that was in standard belts right, right, Yeah, I didn't like that. But yeah, I thought there's did you make those choices like from the heart, Yeah, just like do what you felt you should be. I thought, like, well, it's the right thing to waste this dude, right. But then but then like achievement wise, they only reward you for one course of action, right, okay, yea balls, I mean, I'm not gonna do that against real quick, so I'm just that's that's just not gonna happen. But there's a little sister sequence that is really really interesting. Yeah you too. That I think is interesting and kind of fleshes out in a in a way that I don't feel that BioShock two really does for most of the game, Like a lot of that game is very retread, like, yes, we've seen this, we kind of know you know these we know these themes, we know these ideas. They're just taking it from the like you know, socialist edge instead of the other way around, like it's sort of pure capitalism. It's you know, it's no self Uh. The little sister sequence thing is one of the things that that kind of adds to the overall feel. And you are. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed that game. I thought like this is this is a well made game. It's you know, it's not it's no revelation like the first BioShock was. But I had my fun with it. Uh So here toront Revolution back to the future puzzle asient enslaved Octo. Dad. Let me just say something about Enslave. Now, you played through the beginning part, Yeah, A good sense of like urgency, right, and especially like the beginning there, well, especially from when the ship blew up. I was I didn't make to the end. I didn't know that happen. It was all scripted to no, you can. It was just like one jump that I didn't I was like me for a piece to fly off, and I didn't realize I could make and I'm sorry. I'm sorry though I was, but I was like right, I was. It was like about to reach for the little pod and like go into that cutscene wash and no. Yeah, I thought it was all scripted. So I think me and you both had the same experience where it was like literally one second left we got to the pod. The second time, I had like ten seconds left because I'm like, okay, I've got this route fucking clocked. That's funny. Okay, but you can die and go down with the ship. You can't go down with the ship, Octo, Dad tell me about the same game kind of that was real popular on the site, like a month ago it was, And that's perfectly well. It is. It's like it's a student game projects a PC universe. Yes, it's like University of Michigan or something like that, University of Minnesota. I think there's a physics experiment. It's basically is it like the ship, it's recreating what it's like to try and deal with normal people when you're on drugs. It's pretty much what that game is actually about. Is that the premise or is that your interpretation? That is my interpretation. You're an octopus. You're an octopus pretending to be a dad. You are octodad okay, and so you have to try and act as normal as you can, even though you're an octopus. So it's got this fucking insane control scheme where each like you're using your mouse and the two mouse buttons. Each mouse button is a foot, so you're basically like pressing down on one button to lift up one foot and then dragging in a direction to move that leg forward, unclicking it to put the foot down, clicking the other foot to lift it up, then drag it forward to match it. So all of the animation looks fucking out of control because everything's just like really stilted because everything else's procedural, like the rest of the animation just kind of happens based on where your legs are placed, so he doesn't look right at all. And then you like click in on the mouse wheel and it switches to like hand control, which are just the tentacles coming out of the suit arms. You got to try and like wave those around, interact with stuff. Octopus is clothed. He's an octop suit or something. Yes, he's pretending to be a man, but he can't let anyone know that he's an octopus. He's gotta he's got to keep that under wrap, so he has to try and act as normal as so I'm saying this is this is some college students getting high for the first time and not wanting to go out into public. Is they're afraid. That's good, but not so high that their code doesn't compile apparently, But it's yeah, very weird. It's free to download. I don't know that I recommend it, but it's it's an experience. It's an It is definitely that experience Wrecketeer, which popped up on a couple did you play that? I played some of that. I've had that sitting on my computer for a long time. I just didn't get around to it. That showed up on a couple of our guests top ten lists during the Game of the Year, And yeah, it's interesting because you are I definitely I ate it at a certain point, and that game doesn't auto save and all that. Yeah, it's basically like a like a roguelike kind of like NetHack style, like don't you crawler? Right? Well, yeah, it's so it's it's weird because the basic idea is that you are you run an item shop. Oh that's right, You're not there at all. You're there, you're the person who runs the item shop in the RPG town. So you have to like go to like there's a guild that you can buy stuff from basically at wholesale, and then you can put that in your shop, and there's issues of like what kind of stuff do you have? Uh, like how you arrange it in your shop? Dependent will determine how attractive it is to your customers. Customers come up to you and say, hey, I want this. How much is it? You have to try and gags like how much can I charge this person without them just storming out because there's basically like you go too high, they'll say what's fucking ridiculous and we'll just leave. Or you can go just kind of too high and they'll say that's a little bit much. What can you do for me? So you gotta try, and like you gotta haggledee. But you gotta try and find that right sky where you don't insult them but can still like turn a profit because you have base costs that you have to buy the stuff from. The Other option is that you can basically hire or you know, get get in line with a adventurer and follow them around in a dungeon. You basically handle like support and logistics for them. They do some weird explanation as to like the like you know, you're not really there, but you're kind of there. But if they die then but it's basically you're never in any danger of being hit, okay, but you just kind of along for the ride. So you're actually controlling, you know, the the adventurer during those sections, so you're like they're handler or something something like that, something like that, but you are really interesting. You aren't the adventure like the caddy. But but both parties are getting something out of it. So it's another way for you to collect items for you to go and selling being the shopkeeper in an RPG. So it was there a storyline there octive there is a overwhelming storyline if there's if there is a fault that I will give other than the brutal uh no no, out of saves uh. That game spends way too much time setting up its story and doing dialogue stuff and like a lot of real cheesy like GRPG style. You could tell this was originally not written in English kind of vibe, but like kind kind of all written at the same time, like kind of like kind of like the story is scenarios. Like maybe the dialogue isn't always great, but the kind of the setup and the characters that they established and the like, it's they thought about it a lot. They could have just said, all right, you're the store owner and RPG go all right, they're fighting monsters. You could have you could have lost all of that and it would have been okay. But then they, you know, stuff a bunch of this stuff in there, and in some ways it helps, but in some ways it's just like I wish we could just kind of get to the get to the meat here. What is what is your progress through the story based on Is it like you hit milestones and the amount of money you have, or is it like you character, You are the daughter of a I think he was a shop but I can't remember what he did. Your dad runs off, Okay, one day on some crazy whim and you're just a young girl left on her own. And then basically the making your way of the world. The mortgage company comes and is going to foreclose on your house, but they're willing to work with you to help you make the money so that you can get out from under this horrible loan that you're paying off debt, paying off debt. So that's how the story is kind of time and parceled out. It seems like it again, I didn't get that far into it. Does your shop have a sign? I have not seen it from the outside. I seen it from the inside. Oh, yeah, it totally does She she makes the sign I forgot. Yeah she is it two peas, two peas and the e at the end shop. No, it says It's says Ricket Tier. It's a combination of two characters names. It's Riquette and Tier. Tier. Tier is this little pixie ferry that helps you out, that works work for the marketing. You can't sell, you can't sell. No, she's the one who's going to decide whether you still have a house to live in a different game. Well, all said and done, and then yeah, I played a whole shitload of fall out in New Vegas, and that was I really enjoyed that. I want to get back into that anyway, I need to revisit I. Uh so I got that. I got that new six new TV. Yeah, project six sixty one inch projection, got a new bulb for it, so it is bright and shiny, which meant that I got to move my you know, modest forty six inch TV into my bedroom. So there was a couple of days or I just didn't leave the bedroom. But you didn't have to bring the three sixty in there. We'll have another phase sixteen. Oh, you just bring a profile on there. So yeah, it was just it was. It's the the USB stick now makes a lot of movement. It gets around, it goes from one room to the other. It's stuff to get into the slims. I find it harder to get that harder hard Mine doesn't fit in the weir because of the bezel on the hen spit on it first. Uh, that's much. That's pretty much. He's just the one talking about not fitting in slims. It's not my fault being a nasty Oh all right, we're gonna have to end this podcast now because I'm running out of hard time.
