So we couldn't help ourselves run into each other out there.

Speaker 5: I think, I think you have to be extremely confident in what you do when you coach in any any sports in Kentucky and BBN, there's a tremendous amount of pressure and and a lot of times for a lot of coaches, change comes sort of later. I think he give us ten year plus and he done. We can't take away from him the great things, what great he has done, and and and I was there with Coach Smith his last two years. You know, Coach Smith overall done a lot of great things for for BBN and and and for for Kentucky. But a lot of times it's just time for a change.

Speaker 4: What's it likes that you were there at the four change when you can kind of feel that pressure from everyone on the outside, results just aren't what the expectations are. I mean, are you really feeling that within the locker room.

Speaker 3: You know that the plan is circling the wrong way. So I guess I've never talked you about that. You guys could feel it from coach Smith from Tubby that he was feeling it. He'd bring that into the locker room, which kind of reflected on you guys. You guys could feel that.

Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, and you know, of course we played in an era when fifty six points won the game, right, So it was it was definitely much different basketball than what it is today. But the feeling was there. We knew something was wrong. We could tell that the administration and fan base is not satisfied with losing two games in the row and for example one game. You know, Yeah, expectations in Kentucky are are extremely high, and I think I want to say you have to have an ego to be able to coach at this level and probably be borderline psychopathic to to sustain the type of beating day in and day out from from from the fence and you guys the media.

Speaker 5: From being fair, yes, I'm a little bit. It's been twenty years so I can say it. I'm an og now. So the game of basketball have changed, but one thing does not change. The whole country enjoy Kentucky basketball losing. Watch the ESPNS and the other networks. They all talk about the struggles that there are teams he's facing, so a little bit of adversity, and the guys new guys that haven't been part of We don't have upper classmates anymore, right, Right, we have a thirty year transfer, fifth year transfer, and a seventh year freshman other NBA probably next year. Right, So the basketball has landscapes has changed so much. I was, for example, listening to coach Izzo last night and he I think he expressed he's frustration and and he's more moving towards what I experienced when I was playing in Poland in the club team, when you play against grown men and uh, and I think, uh, here, in the next couple of years, the school is just going to be options. That's one of my questions. The guys still got to go to class or they're just.

So they have like this Christmas friendship. But just the other day on Christmas, I'm checking on her. You know, she's got a lot going on on some medications. She's in the hospital, and she's like, do you all still have the Christmas party? I'm miss hearing from oh listening now, so this will be your alls. Uh, your your your annual Christmas conversation, even though you've taken a few years off. But she wanted me to make sure that you know how much she misses those long talks. Still don't know what you all would talk about. Concerns me a little bit, but that was that was her favorite part of Christmas.

You know, you didn't come from the same place, and now all of a sudden you're you're in with a group of guys who are gonna become your brothers over the course of years. And where you came from if it didn't look like that? And then another thing I wanted to ask you is my daughters. Uh they go to Polish school on Friday or Saturday. Uh did you ever look into a Polish school as it were in the United States for your daughter?

Speaker 5: Thanks for a lot of a lot of to digest, and uh, just one at the time to come and denominator with with arrive in the United States, especially in Kentucky. Was the basketballs so camaraderi you just started right away. And and two thousand and three I ran to a magical guy named Matt Jones and the rest of his history so so it was it was great learning from Maud and all of all of the early things that he was going through because he was still practicing activity law. And then one day he disclosed that he wants to do this full time and look at where to where led, Yes, what it led to something huge and awesome and he cultivated and he cherished and and you know, so so I met so many wonderful people in the state of Kentucky along my journey and uh and I also met him across the country too. There there's places and the meetings I am a part of. And and people say, hey, well, how you doing. You don't know this, but we took a class together, and I'm like, oh man, that this, this is this is just you know, dream come true. That And I'm glad how that just tells you how much networking he can do within the universe and how far he can carry you when you just carry yourself well as well. And you know, and with my daughter that that's a very interesting point. She's interested and ask a lot of questions. So so we might look into something in high school when she might might take a semester overseas in Europe or even in Poland.

And I think that's reflective that UK and U of L have become two of the premiere programs in the entire country right now because the volleyball movement in this state has really been growing over the last several years.
