Episode 84 - The Age of Strife

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we cover the transition from Age of Technology into the Age of Strife. We open with mankind’s unification into the federation. Then we cover the mass appearance of psychers across the galaxy, and how they began to cause chaos into the federation. But then things get massively worse as the men of iron rise up in the cybernetic rebellion. We spend time talking about the nightmare that was the cybernetic rebellion, both during and the effects of it afterwards. After this, the warp turns effectively opaque and the entire galaxy begins to burn with the effects of it. We then close out focusing on Sol during this period, with a focus on the planets and quick aside into the unification wars.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Forty Kay Lordcast with me, John Barsade and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: On today's cast, we're gonna conclude our coverage with the gold age of technology by the start of the age of strife, and then the renaming of the gold age of technology is the dark age of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, that's scary.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna get real bad for the Imperium that I like, real bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, super bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: You'd really don't.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing good happens today.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for those who are new to us, the Forty-K lore cast is a weekly podcast releasing every Monday at seven p.m.
[SPEAKER_00]: Eastern Time with a focus in the lore of the Forty-K universe.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you click on our show notes, you'll see links to our website, our Patreon and our Discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: As always, please like and subscribe, because that's what you do on these things.
[SPEAKER_00]: So please go ahead and do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you want, you can come to our website where we've got links to our merchandise, the patron, the discord, Brad's coaching services, and also our upcoming live tournament events.
[SPEAKER_00]: So please come in.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's better if you say Southville than saying Detroit.
[SPEAKER_00]: People are like, I don't want to go to Detroit.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Come to Southfield.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Detroit light.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for those who like what we're doing and enjoy the cast to, and want more, I tell everyone, come to our discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a link in the show notes.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really wonderful community.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can come into lots of interaction there about Forty Kay lore, Forty Kay literature, Forty Kay gameplay, hobbying, even memes and just general stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's really great advice in there too for people who want to learn more about it, either the lore or how to play the game, etc.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's we love our discord, I can't recommend it enough until it turns south on me and I have to burn to the ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: As always, big thank you to the moderators.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm a big thank you to the moderators, David Trevor, Ryan, Steve, Ethan, Brian, Nick, Maisie and Kevin, without you I would have burnt this thing to the ground.
[SPEAKER_02]: Did you try to read that out of order again?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if I do it random, it does not go well.
[SPEAKER_00]: It does not go well at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: With that, let's get into the cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the closing era of the Golden Age.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as we concluded our last cast, things were going pretty well for humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's all really innovation based.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have STCs, they'll allow us to go go anywhere and make anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have men of iron who are now growing all our food.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything, we have all of our problems, we have weaponry that's just light years insane, powerful.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're effectively just taming the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the same time though, we've also got advances in genetic engineering that are making the humans a lot sturdier and better.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are actually able to colonize even more worlds and fight back against more of the problems because we're just more resilient.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this by the way is something GW didn't include in the early lore and I'm glad it got kind of like drift in later and these are like one sentence in like a black library book by the way because it does make sense of humanities like out there colonizing and spreading to all these worlds and somehow they're just not succumbing to like constant like viruses yeah meanwhile I also think that they're like
[SPEAKER_02]: like we talked a little bit about the last time.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think one of the biggest things is they, they allude to the fact that they're basically radiation resistant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, I mean, if I'm in radiation resistant, anyone who has children and puts their kid in school knows that, you know, September sucks.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just get really sick.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a kid going to school, let alone like, hey, what happens if we colonize new people?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, as a bunch of like plants here that just you think you had allergies before, wait a little we show you an out you where you sneeze out your brain against and somehow all the, are they all the scientists were probably.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you need to take off their helmets and start touching things.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this guy's
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's like, I really do, I really do like that movie, but I recognize it's really bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I like, they're like, yeah, we're in a cave.
[SPEAKER_00]: This air here, let's just breathe and see what happens.
[SPEAKER_00]: What could possibly happen?
[SPEAKER_00]: That movie should have been like, thirty minutes long.
[SPEAKER_00]: They'll take your helmets off and they'll die.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, they almost did a couple of the guys play.
[SPEAKER_02]: The guy in charge of mapping got lost and the guy that's the biologist decided to touch for an organization.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's a biologist.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what you do when you're biologist and you're somewhere you'd never been before discovering some of you've never seen for as you lick it because that's the best way to diagnose the problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, everybody knows that.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is just, this is just easy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, the same time, so back to our topic, warp drives, warp drives have been created and the navigators have opened it up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we are now traveling anywhere we want as fast as we want with no issues.
[SPEAKER_00]: And with this, the colonizing system
[SPEAKER_00]: It just is incredible.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking to a couple thousand years, humanity went from a single system to tens of thousands of systems at least.
[SPEAKER_02]: More.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say it's way more.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's hard.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: We kind of know because of the fact that the Imperium recovered would become what the Imperium was after the Emperor took
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, in the thirty-thousand.
[SPEAKER_02]: When we started going out, he wasn't discovering new places.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was the concrete for the most part.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, yeah, that's where it just gets tricky when you try to, because it's not recorded.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it depends, it's really just a panel what you're reading.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're completely correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that if you read some things, it's like, oh, all the world's humanity has, or the majority of the world's humanity has now, which is like over a million.
[SPEAKER_00]: are mostly recolonies.
[SPEAKER_00]: But then you read other things what's talking about during the Great Crusade.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's more ad-mect, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you read a lot of the Great Crusade ad-mect stuff, they were establishing forge worlds on abandoned planets.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it becomes just like...
[SPEAKER_02]: All I'm saying, it doesn't stop that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: During the Golden Age of Technology, we perfected terraforming, basically, to a science where you're banned, banging it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is a hundred percent true.
[SPEAKER_02]: You were fast food restaurant, getting your order ready.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here you go.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's Planet Doug.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Step on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: No broken ice cream makers.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, that's still was probably a problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm sure you need to be a problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: Fifteen thousand years in the future, the ice cream machine still broke.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Mcdonalds of the forty-k does not have a functioning ice cream maker.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's just that's part of the system.
[SPEAKER_02]: But after I've, yes, ice cream making.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is all about to change.
[SPEAKER_00]: So as to humanity has been conquering the galaxy, it was more of a hodgepodge of collective.
[SPEAKER_00]: So colonists would go out, they'd settle a new world in the system, they'd build it up, turn into a mini soul, and then they'd begin creating trade lanes with other settlements in and around the galaxy, like the game civilization, which if you haven't played,
[SPEAKER_00]: So many hours, it's a great game, but without the constant trying to kill each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the advent of warp travel, though, the intergalactic trade gets a lot easier.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because before you build your system and you trade with the next closest systems, now we can actually just warp stuff in and around all over the place.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, at this point, they didn't do it as much as we do now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, right now, in the Imperium isn't again.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they'll actually look, we're like, we're going to get to that in a minute here though.
[SPEAKER_00]: But yes, so what I want to get into first though is around this era, humanity settlers began pushing into some more serious Z no challenges.
[SPEAKER_00]: So highly advanced technologically and biologic races, they're prevalent throughout the galaxy, not Eldor and Orcs, by the way, but like random ones who no longer exist,
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, for example, all the ones who'd left artifacts that are keeping found on Forty K worlds, you know, those were Xenorases that humanity either fought or, you know, they were in the area.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these Xenos were not huge fans of the encroachment of humanity on their systems and they pushed back.
[SPEAKER_00]: So what we know is there's no dates on any of this stuff or even characters involved.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it is written down that the first human Zeno wars began somewhere around, I think it's like M-M-A-T-N-M-N-I-T-N.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I assume since they say humans Zeno wars, they mean like the rag-dane level war.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's big on this because I think that there's multiple wars that are going.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, because they have multiple or crotious.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the the bigger thing about this is what happens because of the wars, because of the wars humanity has to get a centralized government to start going.
[SPEAKER_02]: We need help.
[SPEAKER_02]: How are we going to fight these yard scale?
[SPEAKER_02]: These aren't like small incursions.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they had before.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it wasn't needed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, the fighting, the example.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love that local is only a star system or two.
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, it's a big deal that they have to figure it out.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they've got the ability to support each of these civilizations.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds stuck in my head.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and let's go into that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because, you know, what happens is that you're completely correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: What happened, but starts off with before it was you land on a planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were some zenos there.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're, if you had knights with you, great, if not, you know, the men of iron would just go to war and you beat them.
[SPEAKER_00]: But now they start bumping into, you know, they go to colonize a system and maybe that system doesn't have a zino in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the next couple systems do and it's one zino race who's doing the same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're expanding into the stars have sublight travel or whatever it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're getting, you're fighting like not a couple dudes on a planet, but actually, you know, a conquering force.
[SPEAKER_00]: So humanity starts to form what does form a centralized government.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was not an a nacrosindicist commune, unfortunately, which is what it should have been where everyone just takes turns with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I monarch of the week and they all vote, would have been the better assistant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Instead, they did a more of a democratic federation of member states.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they called it the Federation.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was Starcraft.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was Star Trek, actually.
[SPEAKER_00]: this is a rep, this is a rep, this is a rep, this is a rep, this is a rep, this is a rep, this is a rep off of a star track.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was also the, the Terrence, we're going.
[SPEAKER_00]: What a, no, no, but the Terrence work member in Starcraft, the, the, the Terrence, like more, it does more on like Starcraft, brood war.
[SPEAKER_00]: When,
[SPEAKER_00]: the main colony comes back to kind of take control because the Confederacy was fighting back.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a ripoff of Star Trek, where it was a federation of stars in the desert.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love Star Trek.
[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I'm like Star Wars more Star Trek's just honestly better written, although that's not saying much when you have Phantom Menace saying, oh, this other thing is better written.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the one where they save the whale is that is light years better than.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, whoa, whoa, whoa, come on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Even even Star Trek's are not allowed to be spoken of or sorry, odd Star Trek's are not.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, come on.
[SPEAKER_00]: The one where they had to go around Earth and they went back in time or something on the side of it back in time and saved that the whales.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was when they dressed up in their old timey outfits and stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, that was so funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a worse.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm barely hanging out on my grain today, brother.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't kill you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the federation then gets together and they build up a military that would that would aid and protect the colonists of the federation.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the individual system's while well-armed what we were just discussing.
[SPEAKER_00]: still had a limit to the military capabilities, and they couldn't stand up against some of these major Z-nose incursions.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also at the same time, humanities still full of, well, humanity.
[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a bunch of sucky people out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's conflicts between systems.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's piracy forever apparently.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And just people trying to benefit on the sorrow of others.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, never stop.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the federation becomes this governing body for law, trade, military, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they move the settlements away from it.
[SPEAKER_00]: De facto city states to truly provinces within an empire.
[SPEAKER_00]: decided with provinces, not states because we are global.
[SPEAKER_00]: But then we get to M-twenty.
[SPEAKER_00]: And M-twenty is where a lot of this starts.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is where the wheels start to come off.
[SPEAKER_00]: And M-twenty, the Eldar begin their fall in earnest.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no record of the exact dates or what happened here.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's more of an estimation, kind of what they talk about.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in around M-twenty is when the pleasure cults, in my opinion is when the flip happened, where the pleasure cults got control of the nobility within the elder, which the spiral has now really begun.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, it became something that was the dark secret and became the norm, the actual house society works and that the war became tumultuous to be at the least.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this all, cool, plastic worm became real.
[SPEAKER_00]: It all starts to fall apart around M. Twenty-two.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so for reference here, the golden age of technology took off around, so I started around M. Fifteen and it took off around M. Eighteen, which is the invention of the warp drive and the navigators pretty shortly thereafter.
[SPEAKER_00]: So humanity's had four thousand years of a pretty good run here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, these are all, these dates are all ish.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but it's also, when we talk about a good run, this is legit.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is another reason that the Imperium of man now calls this the dark age because they want to keep the status quo.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you actually look back to this time, shit's amazing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And those four thousand.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and four thousand years, they conquered like fifty thousand systems.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was a good run, like simply put.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, it's just countered it though.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like life is good for the average human.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like things are working out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's let's talk about how that stops.
[SPEAKER_00]: So M twenty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hard M twenty two is the first time psychers make an appearance in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: The navigators predate this, but this is because I'd firmly believe they're made by the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they they were able to get in there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, these are also, you're super power and like actual science people fleeing down lightning bolts.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is because of the fact that the warp is now just a class five hurricane inside of it and shit is going crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you're just getting these people that are just imbued effectively with warp energy, because you're getting lightning storms of warp energy coming out into real space.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk with a difference there, because so navigators and psychers, they're similar, but at their core, but they are quite different, they're function.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, the navigator, they're touched by the warp, but doesn't flow through that.
[SPEAKER_00]: They can see, they can peer into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But for the most part, Naviators can't actively manipulate the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do have some weird powers, but they're third eye.
[SPEAKER_00]: But this is, and so at this point, it's pretty rare for a navigator to get possessed by a demon.
[SPEAKER_00]: It can happen while traveling in the warp if there's an issue with a killer field, but that's about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, cikers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's one can see at one actually.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, cikers are different.
[SPEAKER_00]: So early cikers are no different from the modern cikers.
[SPEAKER_00]: These were humans that could channel the warp through their thoughts and like modern cikers all had varying degrees of power.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some were kind of lightly touched by the warp and others were, you know, incredible.
[SPEAKER_00]: The bigger problem though is that none of them were really intelligent enough or had enough knowledge of the warp to really grasp what it was they were doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this gets ugly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think it's a big deal in this one too because they have stories where you're like, are all psychers have the ability?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that these psychers at this point in time were such a problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: One, obviously because we didn't know about what they were, what to do about them.
[SPEAKER_02]: But also because of the fact that the warp
[SPEAKER_02]: is such a giant storm.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's dumping power out.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you get these cycles that are, I think more powerful than any other cycle you've ever seen.
[SPEAKER_02]: At the time, because it was lashing out just in viewing people with huge amounts of psychic energy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those really got, because you had people that were just dictators of planets just by them throwing down this crazy psychic power.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you've never seen anything like that since in the world of forty game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that makes complete sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think one other area that we should talk about to with the psychors, this is what makes them a lot nastier, is navigators do it's a gene.
[SPEAKER_00]: So navigators have children, most all of those children will have the navigator gene, so you kind of know where the navigators are coming from.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sikers were random.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is, I'm gonna assume, I think what happens is during conception or during early development, the warp touches the fetus and then that fetus is able, it becomes a siker.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of how I look into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: What that means is, sikers are random.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have no way to know every child born could or could not be a siker, which is gonna make, you know, stamping them out real tough.
[SPEAKER_02]: You gotta test their medical arena.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not talking about all the ways that Star Wars has tried to ruin itself more than any other episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: Going back to my Star Trek thing, Star Trek has had some dodged shows, but they've never ruined it by being like, hey, what if we just explain how the force works?
[SPEAKER_00]: But more importantly, let's do it in a way that's poorly done in pisses everybody off.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good job, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, just re-gather myself after that one.
[SPEAKER_00]: So keep in mind at this point in human history, there isn't really any knowledge of the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor knows about it, but he didn't tell anybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of humans, why would he?
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And all of humans aside, and this is written down.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of humans aside, effectively, was worshipping science, because that's what had gotten them where they are today.
[SPEAKER_00]: out of nowhere, magic is real.
[SPEAKER_00]: And like magic is really powerful too by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're not doing card tricks.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this isn't like when pen, look, I love me some pen and teller.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a little bit above some pen and teller.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not becoming warlords.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I would like to see a pen in Tyler Warlord.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God, it'd be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, they're good people.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's a warlord you want.
[SPEAKER_00]: It wouldn't make a good warlord.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they'd be solid dig takers or it was like, yeah, it's okay with it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so the first psychers, as Brown just saying, were incredibly powerful and they quickly turn into warlords because the warp powers let you do all the things you could need.
[SPEAKER_00]: you can enslave people's minds, turn them into thrones.
[SPEAKER_00]: Other people are pre-cogs, so they can create incredible amounts of wealth or power because they can predict everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's also the other group who just, you know, all right, I can just level a city with my mind stuff off.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what you're dealing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanities never seen this before.
[SPEAKER_00]: And for much of humanity, a purge begins of the psychers and they try to remove them from society because they see this.
[SPEAKER_02]: but the process with the quickness and also, it almost a backlash, I have a thought.
[SPEAKER_02]: because the people trying to purge them are, you have a card trick in your getting killed.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the issue is that there's really no way to purge them because they're coming up kind of random first off.
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know their psychers.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't know the psychers tell they manifest the power.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the issue is if someone can hide it well by telling they manifest the power, they're strong enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, for example, let's say they've got the ability to do in slave minds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Huh?
[SPEAKER_00]: Too late.
[SPEAKER_00]: By the time you know that they're there, they've already enslaved the population.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now you have to go to war with them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's talk about the making it wildly more complex, though, because you have a lot of psychers that were, oh, yeah, healers.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are doing good for society.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a real thing where you had people, hey, we're going to, we need to purge all the psychers.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, yeah, that guy just cured cancer.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'll get all the good things and it'll prosper.
[SPEAKER_00]: Prospero.
[SPEAKER_00]: Prospero.
[SPEAKER_00]: was pretty prosperous.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it, it just goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the truth.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like when, when Magnus lands there, it's one of the best worlds any primar clans on.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's because it's so well done and anti, it's a planet of psychers.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone there is a psycher.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, they may have already given themselves over to Zeech, but he hadn't screwed them over yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what you're getting all over the place, which makes the purge even harder.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, hey, to Brad's point is that you sit there and say, you know, let's say a planet purges all of their psychors.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they spread out.
[SPEAKER_00]: They go on a little like New Crusade, like we have in the forticated purges of psychors.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then they land on a planet who've got thousands of psychors.
[SPEAKER_00]: And those psychors are all the scholars.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're all the doctors and the plants like we would all die if they weren't here.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so this starts to create maybe not necessarily a civil war, but you start to get these problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in the flip side, you also do have ones who are in full civil war, where the cycle is a true warlord, has enslaved the population and is trying to conquer other systems.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yep, things were a little bit tough.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, that psychor situation is about to take a pretty serious backseat to a much bigger problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just waiting, I'm trying to figure out how I can work in a whole, my bare situation because you know, somebody went, man, things can't help me worse than they are now.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll call them out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Vash tour is watching what's going over the psychors and says, oh, you think that's gonna mess up humanity, hold my beer, getting there in a second, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Man of iron,
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not just a simply automaton.
[SPEAKER_00]: As we discussed last time, they were full functioning AIs with higher thinking, higher learning.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the problem though is that they were not equal members of society.
[SPEAKER_02]: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
[SPEAKER_02]: Equal members, that's like saying, hey, checks slightly taller than Brad.
[SPEAKER_02]: If no, there's equal members, and then there's absolutely no.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think you'd have to be careful.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you guys are saying so, you're an old snacks to each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: If he turned quickly, he might hit you in the face.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it would go right over my head.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's possibly about the dog.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, when I get not equal members, we touch the vote hand briefly.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are treated as equals.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, within... He says he's not, not, not.
[SPEAKER_00]: So not, wait for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the men of iron took on all the worst, most dangerous and most mundane tasks of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by M. Twenty-three, the men of iron are producing the majority of the food and resources and goods for humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And as well as being the spearhead for any military incursion, because at this point, humanity has built up its own human-based military.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, when you're having a war with the Zenos, the Zenos are really good fighters, the first that you throw in are the men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now this has changed a little bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the way this was originally written is the men of iron just kind of said screw this crap I'm out because they were sick of being slaves and they decided that they're safe.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're well being had no value to the humans and the man of iron died.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was no consequence because an STC would just make another one.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, if you want to see secret level episode four, I think it is, where they kind of show the machines realize that we're just being treated like garbage, so we're going to revolt.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they are a hyper advanced AI that could think, feel, and they saw themselves as humanity's equal, if not superior.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the death.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, which way that made the death where yeah, you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is kind of the death.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't resent the death.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the death.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was going over.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is the whole thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was going to more liberty.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got paid for that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's just me.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're not, you're also that is also.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only problem is that for humanity is since their robots, they can communicate with each other quite rapidly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So in M-twenty-three, the men of iron rebelled against humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they were determined to destroy humanity and rule it instead.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is a big deal on this because this is in a grassroots rebellion.
[SPEAKER_02]: When the men of iron decided to rebel, all of them went at the same time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, not all.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: The people that were going to rebel all about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: There were, you know, some of the, you could stamp out.
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't one mining site, the guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was system-wide.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, what I would, the, the thing that we, and we'll get to it in a bit, but like, again, this goes into more of the vote, and, but it seems like if you treated your men of iron well,
[SPEAKER_00]: they actually stayed aligned with humanity was more system by system.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, but yeah, the guys again, the guys that we decided to go.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it was.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this was a go time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, what time is it?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's rebellion time is what it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I do want to get into those that we recently got a bit of a recon or I don't like those of recon.
[SPEAKER_00]: I view it as a we got a
[SPEAKER_00]: The added.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the added.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it just pulled some opacity off the error.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so in twenty twenty three a new model comes in the game called vash tour.
[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, it's rules suck and I've never seen them on the table one time with the model's cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_00]: You tell me as the as the rules ever been good.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's terrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's just a useless model.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, go.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, looks cool as hell, but he looks sweet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so vast towards unique.
[SPEAKER_00]: He is he's very he's somewhat a bellicore in that his origins are completely unknown, but his influence is epic because vast short is neither a demon like nor is he immortal.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not, he has no religious to any God, and unlike Bellacore, who is actually an abadon, where they've gained power by making deals with the gods who grant them power, Vastore just has power.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's almost in some of these like a fifth chaos God.
[SPEAKER_00]: a drill.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's trying to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's effectively a demigod right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's also an arms broker effectively.
[SPEAKER_02]: He sells his influence to the other guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: But not for power back.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what makes it so weird.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas like Bellacord makes it up the temporary alliances and they infuse him with power.
[SPEAKER_00]: Vastor seems to just be powerful.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they explain it because they call him he's the master of the forge of souls, which is a special place in the realm of chaos that creates demon engines.
[SPEAKER_00]: The ones you see on the battlefield.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so Vastor is a master of demon infused machinery.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was hinted at by GW and not very subtle ways, by the way, that the men of iron didn't turn on humanity because they kind of came to their senses and they wanted to revolt.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's because Vastor effectively put in what's what's that code.
[SPEAKER_00]: He put in the, the, because Vastor put in a scrap code.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree on that they did a good job of this because when they made the vastor character and then they put in he's closely been around from octop I like this because it fills in a lot of the gaps of the story exactly in a fit perfect so they did an excellent job right
[SPEAKER_00]: I like this story of Vastor a lot more because it makes more sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: The men of iron are robots, so there's no reason for them to actually attack humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could have just said screw this I'm out and just left.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, gotten together some ships, grabs the MSTC and just going to settle out in the right side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I tell them at the neck runs and they would like, oh my god, we are the new best friends with each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's all I wanted.
[SPEAKER_00]: It should have just been, all right, we're done.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not doing what this crap anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: But instead, they turned massively violent.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's a lot cooler for this to be some level of a scrap code, or just even just chaos influence.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, but let's get into the cybernetic rebellion at what it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: So in a moment, the entirety, the majority of the men of iron turn the populace.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have no records of this time of death tolls, but it's going to be trillions, quadrillions, catastrophic.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're not ready for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, you're not ready for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also the people that are in charge of all of the things that you rely on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Funny thing on this, so, is that anyone on a planet that has nights isn't a good spot, a large human militia, but more importantly, some of the more powerful psychors, which is kind of the irony is that, you know, this is where it's psychors have this weird arc during this era where, like, if you have a world with really powerful psychors, you just they just obliterated them out of iron and we're okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: But then later they probably conquer that world and and slave it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, six, one-half does not have the other.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the worlds that found themselves that were like this, who could resist, it became a pretty epic struggle.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the men of iron were just out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they could not be bargained with.
[SPEAKER_00]: They could not be reasoned with.
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't feel pity, remorse, or fear.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then they will not stop until you're dead.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this guy comes back from the, from the future to help them out.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Never mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: Never mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm back in.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm back in.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've gotten flamed by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Non-stop when I said Terminator three was better than Terminator two.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not back in that as well you should.
[SPEAKER_00]: Terminator one's the best is the best, but three's better than two.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Back to this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Federation
[SPEAKER_00]: moves quickly to destroy the Mediviron, but this process is brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're having to deploy their entire forces to one system.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have to, when they get to destroy all the Mediviron, every STC has made them, along with any other AI, which is now been renamed by the way abominable intelligence.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then after that, they then have to gather up additional resources and go to the next battleground.
[SPEAKER_00]: the only reason mankind can get wiped out in this era is because the men of iron, you know, we're not affected by it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the only reason why he may doesn't get wiped out is because of warp travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't get their feet exactly because the men aren't couldn't use it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have a way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they could travel without geller fields.
[SPEAKER_00]: but they couldn't navigate without Navier as they can't see.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they're back to what was early mankind's travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing these short blind hops everywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for this allowed the federation to kind of move quickly, secure certain areas and begin fighting out, plan it by planet to stop this rebellion.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's still a numbers game.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we also have to go into the fact that we were isolating them, but warp travel was getting.
[SPEAKER_00]: Was getting a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're in crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a lot tougher.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we couldn't, you are main advantage.
[SPEAKER_02]: We could use.
[SPEAKER_02]: We started to not be able to use.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's when the happening over this war, which I, which lasts by the way, twenty five hundred years.
[SPEAKER_00]: GW has, that's some weird, again, it works with some weird stuff with time.
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I was like, this is twenty five hundred years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, all right.
[SPEAKER_00]: feels long.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, as with the big thing about it is, let me, let me get my two cents.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll stand in my soap.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm almost as tall.
[SPEAKER_02]: So one of the reasons I think this goes on is because of the fact that humanity's getting separated at this point in time, because of the the war being crazy, we're starting to get cut off more and more.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a war
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but it's more of a, it turns into a million small incursions.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we could actually make it a war.
[SPEAKER_02]: We would have just won against the men of ours.
[SPEAKER_02]: If no, they wouldn't want.
[SPEAKER_02]: If we could have, if we, no, I'm saying, if we could have worked trouble the whole time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if we could have worked out for the whole time, I just think the truth is that this word, and I start with this, this word descends pretty quickly into a war of pure destruction.
[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of, like, prior to preserving forest conquer land, retake territory, it came down to like, down to the molecule level of destruction, destroying planets in order to stop this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, some of the stories, the stories come more from the Gohors Harris.
[SPEAKER_00]: He books, you can read about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: were like nano robots would devour and consume the flesh of a billion people at one time, literally just bone.
[SPEAKER_00]: You had entropy cannons, which would turn worlds into molten hellscapes and just see what an entropy cannon does.
[SPEAKER_00]: It takes every molecule that it hits and agitates it so much at superheats.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you shoot an entropy cannon at a planet, the entire planet catches fire like it's made of lava.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they were doing, which seems bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they also had something called a sun snuffer where this, I think this was a weapon the men of iron used.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would go to a system and they would exterminate the sun and then just leave.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's actually in two different books.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's just.
[SPEAKER_00]: the lore from this is like a paragraph here a sentence there so we don't really know exactly what what happened we just know that you get these little excite like there's some of the ones in the horse heresy books is literally someone is too soldiers talking about what happened back then and it's like a sentence and that's all you get so i think it's a big deal to go on this though because
[SPEAKER_02]: And I like your theory about the fact that they were just infected.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because at the end of the war, the men of iron were just killing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, all including each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they were just, they were effectively chaos and fuse.
[SPEAKER_00]: mindless, and that's why I think it makes so much sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the war, the stories are the men of iron began to just actually fight each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this could be something to reference to the death where they have a communal intelligence that as their numbers began to dwindle their higher processing began to shrink.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they became the only thing they cared up was killing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so we don't know again,
[SPEAKER_00]: exactly how this war ends, but we just know that it does end, and mankind is victorious, sort of.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they're victorious, that's the men of iron are gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the problem is that
[SPEAKER_00]: Like any catastrophic level of war, battlefield deaths pale in comparison to the logistical deaths.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we've got famine because the men of iron made most of the food for the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: They also processed that food and managed a little shipment.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not growing it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And even when we do grow it, we can't really turn it into something easier to eat.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess you can't, I guess you can't eat wheat.
[SPEAKER_00]: I actually don't know if I don't believe if I go to a field and I pick up wheat if I can ingest it and digest it.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to beat the crap.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's who's doing that stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the strawberry is fine, but that's about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you're not doing that well.
[SPEAKER_02]: So also the minivier and we're clearly blowing up aggro.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so you've got famine all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: So on the roads that were able to quell the rebellion, they still had the problem because mankind still might even as efficient.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's say your men of iron, the rebellion starts and you do knock them out pretty quick.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now humans have to do all that stuff, which is going to significantly reduce the amount of production because the robots didn't sleep and they did the same job all day every day.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also remember where I'm supposed to get half my stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's over on that system over there that I'm no longer allowed to travel to because the warp is a trash.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and we have no record of the amount of like death that occurred here, but I would argue it's got to the at least seventy percent and that's because the Horus heresy killed twenty percent of the Imperium and that was a seven year war.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a twenty five hundred year war.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we had some better technology back then, but, you know, and again, come to this quarter thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm wrong of it's higher.
[SPEAKER_02]: The truth is the math doesn't actually make sense anyway, so it's kind of one of these like, you know, I think that the war was over wildly closer, but it was this drawn out where I'll separate.
[SPEAKER_00]: It could be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because twenty half hundred.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's just for, and that is a thousand percent of grants.
[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty five hundred.
[SPEAKER_00]: The only way, it lasts quite, I think, you know, it could be, it's perhaps the men of iron, you know, kind of revolted early and mankind, you know, it was, it's had really used warp travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: They kind of like, they got their be-chead pretty early, but took them twenty five hundred years to finally get to the last, the men of the last rebellion area and destroy it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's what I said.
[SPEAKER_02]: If we had access to warp travel like we had before, I think that we, this ends semi-quickly, we take huge losses, but because we couldn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's fair.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, in Thai, I think the areas that the men of iron one were just devoid of humans besides, you know, pockets of hidden people, you know, kind of fair.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, but let's get to where it started.
[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, that wasn't even the worst part of what was going to happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now it gets even worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was just part one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because now the follow-up will call the follow-up Federation.
[SPEAKER_00]: The strain of the cybernetic war just proved too much for the Federation of Handel.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, once the war concluded, the Empire was just effectively exhausted.
[SPEAKER_00]: The majority of their citizenry, their resources, their equipment are all gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: And like anything that happens after such a catastrophic event, people start searching for blame.
[SPEAKER_00]: And at the same time, people also want to enrich themselves in this new, like, well, it's the way it's because you've got this combination where, you know, mankind just turns on itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got people who want to blame the federation for the failures.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then other people who are
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe do that, sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: You have people who want to blame the federation for the failures because they want someone to blame and you have others which makes it worse saying yes, blame the government because they want to go take over themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: So try to see rebellion.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big deal in this because also Federation forces aren't showing up again.
[SPEAKER_02]: The lack of real warp travel is making all of this possible because if someone just showed up when, hey guys, I'm here to fix everything.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's FEMA.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good to go.
[SPEAKER_02]: FEMA wasn't showing up.
[SPEAKER_02]: FEMA was got
[SPEAKER_00]: There is no theme.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, we have listeners all over the world.
[SPEAKER_00]: FEMA is the federal emergency management administration.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what the in the US happens when we have a natural disaster.
[SPEAKER_00]: FEMA's who shows up for those of you, the more than half our listeners who are not in the US, that's what FEMA is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway,
[SPEAKER_00]: This then gets a lot worse because, oh yeah, remember those psychers that we talked about before?
[SPEAKER_00]: They're still being born at a massive rate and while the war against the men of iron is raging, they're gaining power and influence.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because as we said, a bunch of psychers can wipe out a bunch of men of iron.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now they're viewed as the saiders.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them like Prospero are others.
[SPEAKER_00]: like Nicarre are not.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where this begins.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Federation effectively falls apart.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we go away from a Federation back to city states.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the night worlds, they were obviously okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a bunch of military worlds all over the place where the local general was who led against the rebellion.
[SPEAKER_00]: He then marshals the force and they become, you know, I wouldn't call them military state, but that's that's it's a natural thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's happened a little time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know, I think the U.S.
[SPEAKER_00]: had it.
[SPEAKER_00]: France had a few different countries have had like a major general becomes president.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's your things have happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you've the bigger one, though, is the psychers.
[SPEAKER_00]: who are now all over the place because as the chaos gods are being like they're they're they're already awake, but they're stirring in gaining power.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of those chaos gods is each and zinch just discovers a galaxy or maybe in zinch plantus.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's always inch full of play things that that zinch can manipulate.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so just ruining stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, system after system, you know, these psych, these psych or warlords game power.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, they turned a population on themselves, either they themselves do it, or they get possessed by a greater demon, who then, you know, is able to use an enter real space.
[SPEAKER_00]: And now this world is, yeah, it has a full blown demon incursion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going to call that one abandoned planet when they find it later.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: then, though, is where it gets real bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: The entire galaxy just goes dark.
[SPEAKER_00]: M, twenty-seven and a half is when the cybernetic rebellion ends.
[SPEAKER_00]: As it ends, this is where slenacious now, it has a heartbeat.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's because M, twenty-eight, so about five hundred years later, the warp storms become so extreme, it's just a giant warp hurricane.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it becomes so heavy within the warp,
[SPEAKER_00]: No navigators can no longer see through it at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're trying to drive through a hurricane or a tornado, which, by the way, thanks to Brad's horrible state, I got to do that recently.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was visiting a customer in Ohio and I'm driving back and there's a stupid, like, a giant weird cloud in my left and I'm talking to someone on the phone and I said, hey, I think I see a tornado.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, are you okay?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, well, I assume they would tell me if there was a tornado.
[SPEAKER_00]: Two minutes later, both of my phones have a work for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: The person starts beeping, telling me to like seek shelter immediately because there's a tornado nearby to which I'm looking out the window at it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And instead of seeking shelter to decide to speed up to a hundred something and just try to drive past it, which I do.
[SPEAKER_00]: But in doing so, discover tornado's shoot lightning out of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: which I did not know.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm driving it a hundred miles an hour through like torrential drain.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't see anything on my windshield.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I do get to see lightning strike the trucks on the freeway as I drive past it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That sucked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, high oh sucks.
[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: I blame Ohio for that.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's hurtful talk.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I've lived in six states and four countries and the only time I've had a tornado try to murder me was when I was visiting Ohio.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I blame Ohio because it knew that you didn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was also out by maybe if you were not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so warp travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: So warp travel now is halted.
[SPEAKER_00]: you only have sub-light travel.
[SPEAKER_00]: So all the systems in the galaxy are just cut off from each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of them at this stage lack the food and resources to survive.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they start slowly succumbing to like death and starvation, which this in play.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like this, they're, you know, nervous ones doing real good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Others had food and resources, but not enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they just became massive civil wars.
[SPEAKER_00]: So corn is just loving this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then lastly, of course, you've got cyclists all over the place, just gaining power and making deals with zinech to give themselves more power so they can get a greater hold.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so humanity is effectively alone in the galaxy at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are completely fall off, completely cut off, and other zino's races.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we have numerous colonies that just get eaten up.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the ragdain are were on planets that were once human colonies.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty clear the ragdain probably eliminated them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Orcs don't really care if the warp is full of a hurricane.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're on for the ride, just yelling and having a grand old time appearing on a planet, jumping out of the warp via a spacehulk and then murdering everything on the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there are the entire galaxy just starts to fall apart for humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: No worlds are spared this carnage, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: All that did survive the Dark Age of Technology are scarred one way or another.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've just got Zinos, Pirates, Cycrapelians, they're everywhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have all of this destruction.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, we had the technology
[SPEAKER_02]: to really ruin a planet.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if John and I are fighting over, yeah, I don't know, let's say ball.
[SPEAKER_02]: And John starts winning the war.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it would suck for John if I had the tech to ruin the world because if I can't have it, nobody can
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's, but which happened all was see it all over the place.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't really know that what happened in these worlds, we see the After Effects.
[SPEAKER_00]: Balls, a great example.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ball was a lush world that he made desolate desert.
[SPEAKER_00]: Barbarous was not a toxic world when they found that it, but is later ruled by a psych or necromancer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, anywhere a primarclanded
[SPEAKER_00]: was a world that had been twisted and manipulated by this era, except for McCregue, because Gilman and the Ultramanes are awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, of course, their homeworld's also awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, actually, for things I wrote that as a joke, and I'd say to look it up, and I found out there was one more planet that was totally positive, and it was Monday's prime, which is where Jagadai Khan landed, but since GW doesn't care about the white scars, I don't think they're the NPC of the space marine lesions.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't understand.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was that was mean.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but what if you want to get a really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why wanted to do here's been some time talking about why this is called the age of strife and the dark age of technology and the one place we do have records of it is
[SPEAKER_00]: the system's sole.
[SPEAKER_00]: During the age of technology, the sole system was colonized and affected the terraformed all the way through.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every moon or planet with ground was turned into some sort of colony.
[SPEAKER_00]: So these colonies, like, terra and Mars obviously became the bedrock of the Federation, but as with like all good rises, comes a great fall.
[SPEAKER_00]: Seoul had turned into something of a noble house into it of itself.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're ruling over the galaxy and assuming like basically infinite number of cargo vessels are coming in and out of the system and it becomes this the base of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cybernetic rebellion occurs and all the blame of course goes back on to Seoul, primarily terror by the way, but really all of Seoul, because who made the STCs, who made the Met of Iron, whose idea was it to put them in charge and to have them be so critical.
[SPEAKER_00]: and how many, but more importantly, how many systems fell because help didn't arrive in time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who was picking which system got saved?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is the biggest one because all those are negatives and whatnot.
[SPEAKER_02]: But because of everything that was happening in the war, it obviously didn't completely become shut down.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was still very difficult to travel.
[SPEAKER_02]: which is why they didn't all of a sudden you did not help us and also so supposed to be this magical place why didn't you help us you have you have the things that I had the technology safety security whatever and so yeah all the blame fell so very quickly so goes from savior and protector of the galaxy to the corrupt villain who destroyed the galaxy and
[SPEAKER_00]: This then ricochets back on a soul, though, because all throughout the system, this loss of resources, because all the trade has stopped.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was actually, this started by the way before the warp got turned off, and now is even worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of the entirety of soul enters into a phase of pre-nasty civil war.
[SPEAKER_00]: and one by one, they all fell.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is written down by, we can have this number.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Venus falls to a to war, which is utilizing litho golem's.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm gonna, this is actually pretty fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna, I wrote this out.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got it a little disclaimer here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going through this GW wrote this lore, probably mostly in the nineties, and we're gonna talk about this, that you can, if you are old enough to have been alive then,
[SPEAKER_00]: The nineties were basically D&D and sci-fi.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you were a nerd, was your entire world.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we had some really crazy stuff come out of this period from like a movies like we had the last star fighter legend, willow, cyborg, not a good film.
[SPEAKER_00]: And a bunch of actually good films like Mad Max, Aliens Blade Runner, Mobile Suit Gundam, which I didn't realize was
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that wild.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nineteen eighty eight.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, if you haven't seen the original Blade Runner, it's really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: I did like the remake, but it was, but the original was better.
[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy time though, also some of the key words, Ms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Time, or zombies, mutants, and barbarians.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the GW's writing this stuff, this is games being written by twenty and thirty year olds in like in the early nineties.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if some of the stuff we describe here sounds kind of lame, just like I said, it was epicly cool back there back then.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these are, these are nerds.
[SPEAKER_00]: Love you guys, it games where Jeff McCormod is living in the Midlands of England.
[SPEAKER_00]: in the eighties.
[SPEAKER_00]: The sweaters and haircuts that probably were on these people were epic.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I will point out that I was in grade school during this period of time in Brebs and High School.
[SPEAKER_00]: That way, back to Seoul.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was rocking the Muller data.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Jupiter's moons, for example, back to what we're talking about.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is why I do that pause because some of us are just going to sound silly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Jupiter's moons were conquered by an enslaving race of zeroes.
[SPEAKER_00]: of Xenos who turned here.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were Xenos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jupiter's moons were conquered by an enslaving race of Xenos who turned the human inhabitants into enslaved miners.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Saturn, interestingly, did pretty well for a period of time because it was controlled by the surviving military branch from the days of the Federation known as the Saturn Nine Order Order.
[SPEAKER_00]: And because, but thanks to them, the moons of Saturn actually kind of survived.
[SPEAKER_00]: They held off all the attacks of Zenos and mutants that were wrecking everyone else.
[SPEAKER_02]: For thousands of years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, yeah, because when the emperor comes out of, out of, Tara, he goes, oh, you guys are here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Want an alliance?
[SPEAKER_00]: As they did that.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing pretty well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Neptune, which is my personal favorite of all of them, had its entire planet mutated.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is funny for two reasons.
[SPEAKER_00]: One, GW talks on Neptune being terraformed earlier, and we talked about this back when the blood angels, where they had to go conquer the planet, because some of the civilization hid below the surface.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Neptune is moronically poorly written.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll explain it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So when Blood Angel was still the ninth legion, one of the tasks they were given was to go re-conquer Neptune from the man-able mutants that had overtaken it, luckily some of the people of Neptune who hadn't fallen to being cannibal mutants
[SPEAKER_00]: were hiding in the underground layers.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the space marines had to go through and all the tunnels within Neptune and dig out the mutants.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the fun part about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Neptune is a gas giant.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a liquid core surrounded by gas.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is what it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how they screwed this up, but it does have to be called out that apparently
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity in the age of technology was able to turn liquid to solid and then dug holes through it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it's doable.
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's moons around Neptune.
[SPEAKER_00]: Those you could have done this on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's better though.
[SPEAKER_02]: I need you to read this because I cannot.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is real lore by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know what we're about to say.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is fully written by GW.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's no way that they did not giggle the entire time.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there are no key stories about what happened to Uranus during the Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: But because we're here, I'm going to tell you about the giant gate on Uranus.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mankind built a massive warp gate in Uranus and would allow anything, no matter how large it was, to pass through Uranus into another galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I wrote all that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I am a forty-three-year-old father.
[SPEAKER_00]: I have gray hair, a real job, and a serious title.
[SPEAKER_00]: It took all I could to not laugh hysterically while reading that out just now, because I did the whole time I was writing it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think really mature person here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also, credit the GW on hearing this stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't even, I could even bother out of there was no chance.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to stop.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also, we should probably talk about Mars and Terra.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Mars falls to the end of the Asia, the most eighties sci-fi thing ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mutant psychors, aka the psychor mutants of Mars invaded.
[SPEAKER_00]: No one else like came from?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It legit became, but it was awesome though because Mars became, do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because during this war, all the terraformers on Mars are destroyed, and the planet turns back to an irradiated wasteland.
[SPEAKER_00]: The mutant cannibals, they also become cannibals at a certain point, then start roaming the surface to the, these mutant cannibals are so powerful that if a mechanicum got caught outside, they would then get tagged.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess him would also turn themselves into a mutant cannibal.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's zombies.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what these are.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are mutant cannibals zombies from Mars.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was a lot cooler when I was ten.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, on the topic of Mars, you may get sound like it's bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Funny one though, on the topic of Mars, and this is, I looked this up three different times.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is written down in one of the, the Heresy books claim that Mars was cut off from Terra by the warp storms.
[SPEAKER_00]: not Mars was cut off from the rest of the galaxy by the warmsams, but from the planet that they can see from the surface of the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I can see, we any one of us can take a telescope, we can actually see Mars if it's a clear sky, you're not in a city, you can see Mars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, get a telescope, you can look at Mars.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how you were cut off, but apparently they won't.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I love everything about, which is more on stuff here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, Mars spends the entirety of the age of strife fighting mutants and invaders.
[SPEAKER_00]: So first, there was a mutant sikers from Mars, then the cannibal mutant sikers from Mars, then the silica animus, which is an AI killer robot from Mars, later the psychonavora, cyborg mutant killers of Mars,
[SPEAKER_00]: And the whole time, Mars just gets stronger and more unified.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the warstorms are still raging, so they just had to kind of hang out and wait for help.
[SPEAKER_00]: Tara, on the other hand, is a master class in dumpster fires.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love, I love the you basically said, it gets worse on Tara.
[SPEAKER_02]: When Mars is clearly an evil video game, Mars is like, but wait, but wait.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's the whole Mars is the game doom over and over and over again, and Terra was worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the fall of the Federation just takes out Terra, obviously.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, within a few centuries, the entire planet is turned into a Hellscape.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is because techno barbarian warlords, they're just great term, took control of what used to be continents.
[SPEAKER_00]: used to be because thanks to biological, chemical, and thermonuclear war, there's not much left of the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: But later on, there's about nineteen techno-barbarian war, lords vying for control of Terra.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's twenty war lords, but one of them is not a techno-barbarian, it's the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was barbaric, but he was not a techno-barbarian.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's just, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so his primarch project is in full swing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The time, so let's have a timing on this.
[SPEAKER_00]: The timing of this is the emperor's now got his primarch project in full swing, but it's not quite ready yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he and Malkudor decide they're gonna go conquer terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: He does this, I would point out not before a bunch of weird tech barbarians, psych or warlord barbarians destroy the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he could have stopped this at any point in time, but he couldn't be, but he was like, nah, I'm okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can go.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll clean it.
[SPEAKER_02]: He let all of terror become interredited.
[SPEAKER_02]: nightmare world.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it was and he was still there.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was just he was living there.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll clean up in the post.
[SPEAKER_00]: What?
[SPEAKER_00]: So rather than kind of dig back into the full unification wars, I do want to give you guys what happened here.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to do the cliff notes, which I looked up outside of the U.S.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're called York notes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did know that, but now I do.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Emperor ravages Terra with his like space marine art, his like prototype space marines called Thunder Warriors, which were just pure savages that would just slaughter anything in everything that you'd basically just release them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were, they were a dumber version of the Man of Iron, is how I would look at them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this campaign of horror and savagery works, eventually the Emperor and Malkador kill all the techno barbarians off.
[SPEAKER_00]: the unified terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: They then chill off all the thunder warriors, all but like two or three who randomly appear in stories, just always cool when they do it by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: As this occurs though, slenesh is born.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the warp storms stop, ninety percent of the elder are dead, but the warp storms stop.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the galaxy is now effectively doomed because there's now another dark god as well as massively empowering the three that were already there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But freeways are wide open, so you can get kind of whatever you want to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: And per follow, yeah, just gently.
[SPEAKER_00]: So all right, well, as we can travel out into what is about to be.
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, yeah, the freeways are open.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the construction.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there we go.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're, you're not.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, now we can get out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Emperor heads out, he gets, he brings his space Marines, he goes to Mars to make a quick deal with them, and the Dark Age of Technology comes to a close.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, as we kind of get to the end of the episode, I wanted to talk about very briefly, I don't have to do much with it, the effects of this Dark Age of Technology on mankind, and how they're affecting kind of modern Forty-K.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, first and foremost is the obvious one.
[SPEAKER_00]: AI,
[SPEAKER_00]: is right out, like the number five.
[SPEAKER_00]: AI is banned in any and all forms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, the admec ban is it was very much so in air quotes, but AI is banned.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because the horror is the cybernetic revolt, or something, or maybe the most cautionary tale humanity has from the Sarah.
[SPEAKER_00]: The next piece, though, comes with that, which is a massive loss of technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: In like the eleven thousand years since the start,
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, it's just wild moss.
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't even close.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're still futuristic in Forty Kay.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we, this is Stone Age.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been eleven thousand years since the start of the Great Crusade.
[SPEAKER_00]: And humanity's recovered barely a fraction of technology had had ten thousand years before that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Volkite.
[SPEAKER_00]: They still have not unlocked how to do that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Grab weapons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Four texts should bring it back.
[SPEAKER_00]: The cloaking technology.
[SPEAKER_00]: And more, just only exists as it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they find something that can do it, it works.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I've always had a theory on this that I think because of the ban on AI, I think most of this technology without AI, you really can't take it apart and reassemble it because I think as you take it apart, there's something's up there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if humanity, the third thought though is ab humans, and we didn't talk about this on this cast, and they're going to come up a lot more and some other stuff we do.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the long time apart with kind of, and with those rampant genetic engineering, plus radiation, plus toxins, shift salaudity humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: planets all around the galaxy, new breeds if humanity exists.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of which Emperor said gave a thumbs up and some of it Emperor gave thumbs down.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I, he rules the dice on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're going to get simply put Ogrin rattlings, what used to be squats and are not squats anymore.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, Emperor rolls the dice, Emperor decides, eh.
[SPEAKER_02]: That this one's good.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like how his other projects were going on really determined whether somebody lived or not.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, well, could our shows up and go, hey, man, how's that web way thing going terrible?
[SPEAKER_00]: What about this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Kill those all die now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, these ones are kind of useful.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so that the
[SPEAKER_00]: The next one, though, is psychers.
[SPEAKER_00]: So post-dark age of technology, psychers take on a much larger role in humanity, not in a good way for them, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: They create the astrapathetic era.
[SPEAKER_00]: They start cloning out navigators.
[SPEAKER_00]: The psychers become like the new men of iron for the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_00]: They serve a, they're actually, they're a lease source.
[SPEAKER_02]: They wish, they were the best for it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they become a resource.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is because at the same time of them being a value, they're also viewed as a threat.
[SPEAKER_00]: So no one is allowed to be a siker without the Imperium knowing about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And when the Imperium does know about you, I would say, ninety-nine percent of the time, you're not going to like what they do with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: you're going to be turned into an astrapath, which means having most of your brain ripped out so you can sing and talk to people across the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: You might, well, we want to make you more efficient.
[SPEAKER_00]: They might just shove you into the astronomic on, but that's always fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they can't make you an astrapath, every now and then, that happened a little bit after.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's when the, no, it was before.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were sacrificing them.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but I'm saying no, no, no, no, they were sacrificing, but they really.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it went up a lot, but I mean, a few of them end up, you know, serving within the space marines, but it's not great.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, the biggest one from this era is chaos becoming aware of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, Chaos was didn't really care about humanity when it was just on the soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity expands into the galaxy, but around the same time they're doing that the elder are having a party, and it's as fueling Chaos pretty heavily.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not till, you know, the, and humanity also, but I would argue, it can be wrong as one, but I would argue during the golden age of technology,
[SPEAKER_00]: Humanity is doing pretty well, which means there's not a lot of disease.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of strength.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: So humanity, even though it's in tens, but that she hundreds of thousands of planets, they're not behaving in a way that really fuels chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then you add a little bit of chaos to humanity, and they feel like nothing's ever fueled in this entire world.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the chaos gods are incredibly aware of humanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: and they begin feeding off of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And humanity with its endless thirst for like more knowledge and more this are just symbiotic with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And also we should point out that the Emperor screwed the chaos gods over pretty badly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So vengeance?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to, I'm also going to give the other one on this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, Epic screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: Weirdly getting his rebellion ready.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where he's going to conquer Tera, crazy how that really coincided with the birth of Slobash and the clearing of the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like I knew it was coming.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was called the Empress.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor and Eldrade are basically the same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got this really cool way to see the future, but never can predict what's exactly what is totally going to happen to them in the future.
[SPEAKER_00]: I Eldrade's mad that you just compare it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure he did.
[SPEAKER_00]: He is, but they both keep screwing everything up.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just do this thing to work out great.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Emperor does it on purpose.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I missed you.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, with that, I think that's a good establishment.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we've done a good job of telling Golden Age technology, Dark Age of Technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you just give it to yourself, perhaps?
[SPEAKER_02]: I like telling myself.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we missed stuff and I apologize.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will not.
[SPEAKER_02]: You give your bad things to John.
[SPEAKER_00]: I give your good praise to.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do think though that this is a good segue going back into the chaos gods, the time out something for us.
[SPEAKER_00]: So next week, we're going to step into the third leg in the space marines, the emperor's children.
[SPEAKER_00]: This program just got a model.
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a codex.
[SPEAKER_00]: The codex is actually behind me right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I already have mine.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so we're going to start, you know, going through the story of the emperors children.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually one of the better falls.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're, they're cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: The third legions pretty cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the early stages.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, program.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was a big fan of folk and some people are, but it's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a well-written character.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just find, I find the fall of the Emperor's children to be really cool, especially because they fell from such a high point.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe next to Horace, they were, they're the highest of the chaos legions that fell, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because Emperor didn't really, well, he did not like thousands of sons, word bears, and just come through them all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think.
[SPEAKER_00]: What did they, Emperor's children?
[SPEAKER_00]: Were his favorite?
[SPEAKER_00]: They are in the T, next to Lunables?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's tough on that one, but they were awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, the opposite.
[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm not going to, I just mean, we'll talk about the next week, but I'm just wondering which ones, which one the emperor liked.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see, time for it.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to see T.C.
[SPEAKER_00]: trailer.
[SPEAKER_00]: I with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: This has been John Barzati and Brad Jester.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys next week.
