I remember two can take a sports radio. February the sixth, Mad is off today because he's colon oscarby this afternoon, so everybody's keep him in your thoughts and prayers. 00:01:09 Speaker 3: Uh. 00:01:09 Speaker 2: You know, anytime you go under anesthesia, it's a little a little scary for a person. So we decided to give him the day off today. So we came in Matt Drew and Ryan Shannon Drew and Ryan. 00:01:22 Speaker 4: Did you forget? 00:01:23 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I forgot who was doing the show? 00:01:25 Speaker 5: Okay, we are you under anesthesia? 00:01:27 Speaker 2: I am under anesthesia. I live on anesthesia. This is another Pope Pope quote from last night's coaching shows. I saved it for this hour so we can, you know, get maybe a turn things around a little bit. 00:01:36 Speaker 5: Look at all this show, prip you did well. 00:01:38 Speaker 2: You know, we got to call it, what eight thirty this morning, so I had at least an hour to get ready for the show Mark Pope last night and He's coaching show. We got a lot left in the tank, and we're going to be and you're going to be really proud. That's what I want to hear, you know. That's what I want to hear is that, like, look, we still are not playing maybe not even playing our best backasketball. Yet we still got a lot to go we get all of our pieces back, we're still going to be that team that's gonna make you proud, make a big run. That's what I want to hear. 00:02:07 Speaker 5: On Tuesday before seven o'clock. I was willing to commit to a four game winning streak after Mississippi. I wasn't sure about that one. South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt. They were so bad at Ole Miss I'm not ready to get behind. That almost made it my hot take. But they do have four very winnable games here. I know Tennessee's a big name, but you thump them in their own gym, surely you could do it in Rep. Aerna. So you know, if you win the next four, we can all take a big sigh of relief for heading to Alabama and feel like you're in a pretty good spot and just see if you can knock off Alabama and Auburn on your way out to the end the end of the regular season. 00:02:39 Speaker 2: And Channing, we know how this fan base is. Man, they go on a four game win streak, we're all back on board. We're all like thinking, man, this team can go to the Final four. Let's go. 00:02:47 Speaker 6: So, I mean, nobody in my opinion should be not on board right now, Like why would you not be? I mean, I know that they've hit a tough stretch here, losing four out of five, But there's still a lot of basketball to be played. 00:02:58 Speaker 4: And we've seen, you know, a lot of quad and one winds. 00:03:01 Speaker 6: You still got plenty of them coming up. You got Tennessee, You've got Auburn. Missouri's going to be tough. So there's I think there's still a lot of wins left to be had. Now, you could things could also go sideways quickly too, so you got to make sure you take care of business on Saturday. But I'm still very optimistic on how the season's going to end. 00:03:21 Speaker 5: Yeah, I've seen people saying they would trade with Arkansas or their one game behind this. Come on, Kentucky's the four seed in the bracketology right. 00:03:27 Speaker 2: Now, still a four seed in pychetology. 00:03:30 Speaker 5: Arkansas is on the bubble. I mean, those wins in December and it was a while ago and I just said this were going the wrong way. Those wins have Kentucky still very good standing for the tournament. 00:03:39 Speaker 2: But you got to win Saturday. You can't let South Carolina come here and beat you. 00:03:42 Speaker 5: Different conversation. If you lose to South Carolina. 00:03:44 Speaker 2: And then if Tennessee comes in and you beat them and you sweep the series with Tennessee, then you're right now. You've got Vanderbilt right after that, you should go on a street week, maybe start playing some good basketball. 00:03:53 Speaker 5: If you beat South Carolina and then Tennessee beating Tennessee pulls them down, you could start dreaming dreams of getting back to the double bye because you could take Tennessee spot at the Alabama Auburn Florida and you you'd still need to win a lot of games moving forward, but having two against Tennessee would be big for SEC seating. 00:04:11 Speaker 2: Is it just our are always our high expectation, Shan, and we expect to win every game, not even taking in consideration how strong the SEC is this year. 00:04:19 Speaker 6: I mean, we come on, Kentucky fans are the most fickle fan base on the planet, all right, I mean we had the greatest fan base. But also you lose a few games, and I mean you start reading ridiculous tweets, which I was talking about on the pre show the other day, like Twitter's not real life, but you see all these you know, takes that people have on Twitter going, Okay, you know, we're gonna give Pope one more year, but if he starts doesn't start winning games like you should, then he's got to go. 00:04:42 Speaker 4: I'm like, we're already talking about that. 00:04:44 Speaker 2: You know. 00:04:44 Speaker 6: Now, this is again, not the majority of the fan base, just a few idiots on Twitter. It just goes to show you that, you know, we have those type of fans in our fan base. 00:04:53 Speaker 5: I had a moment yesterday where I was reminded of this. I was sitting at Chick fil a drive through, waiting on my food, looking at my phone of people telling me I suck, and you know all this BBN's dad for something I said about Reed Shepherd, and it's just like, my goodness, this is awful. And the guy hands me my food, he's like, hey man, I really like you guys on KSR and I listened every day and I thought, all right, there's a human being in life that I've made eye contact with who said something nice. And I have all these anonymous people that I will never see or never care about saying awful things. It's just a reminder that that app is full of filth, and your real life is what you should pay more attention. 00:05:26 Speaker 2: To exactly everybody gets. I'm included. We get so emotional over how some twenty twenty one, twenty two year olds play basketball on a Saturday afternoon. It dictates how we feel the rest of the week. But then it's so easy now just to grab your phone. Pope, can't coach marm, you know, and send that to everybody. You need to make take a deep breath. Think twice. I went on a drive after Arkansas beat us the other night. I was, so, what did you drive to? 00:05:51 Speaker 4: You keep saying you want on a drive? 00:05:52 Speaker 2: Did you go at yoga girl's house? I went to noa girl's house to my house. I was gonna guess maybe waffle House. But you know, waffle House is increasing their egg prices. 00:06:01 Speaker 4: I saw that. 00:06:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, because of the bird flew and the cost of eggs, waff Well's gonna increase their prices. 00:06:07 Speaker 6: We need we need more roosters, right Ryan, to get those more roosters to make more eggs. 00:06:12 Speaker 2: Okay, now I'm gonna give you a couple other stats where we're talking about each pope. You know, everybody's what is coach post record? Right now? In the sec four and five Okay, do you know what Nate Oates record was his first year in the SEC? 00:06:24 Speaker 5: Oh, what's that? 00:06:25 Speaker 2: Eight and ten? 00:06:27 Speaker 5: It's not good. 00:06:28 Speaker 2: Danny Hurley's first record was. 00:06:30 Speaker 5: Oh, they were not good his first year six and twelve. 00:06:34 Speaker 2: Todd Golden nine and nine, and then Olzberger the coach at Iowa State seven and eleven. These are probably the four of the top coaches in college basketball right now for in the conversation, and they all struggled their first year in their conference. Take they didn't have this conference either, That's true, historically one of the best conferences ever. Do you take any consolation in that? 00:06:57 Speaker 5: Absolutely? I take consolation and that I take. And this team was put together in like four weeks. I mean everything left. Uh, the schedule's unreal, not just the SEC schedule that it was a hard non conference that they played really well. So yeah, I mean I'm not that upset. I'm mad about Tuesday and Saturday. I'm the big picture I'm still all right with so long as it doesn't keep trending like Tuesday and last Saturday. 00:07:21 Speaker 6: Shannon, Yeah, I mean, this is the toughest conference I've ever seen in my life. I mean, Ryan, you've you've seen a few more years of college basketball to meet. Can you even remember like going even farther back the SEC being like this, this. 00:07:34 Speaker 2: Is not the SEC. And there were there were some years where the SECURE lucky to get three teams in the nca tournament, right or three or fourteen? Now we're going to talk twelve or thirteen. 00:07:42 Speaker 6: Twelve or thirteen, And you know, if you go to five hundred, I think even if you go what eight and ten, I think there's you're in the tournament. I think I think there's a good chance you're still in the tournament. So it just goes to show you the strength of the conference. And you know, I think Mark Pope has done great job so far, you know, throwing all like you just said, throwing the team together as quickly as the dead going in and playing in this conference. You look at Louisville have we were talking about them on the pre show earlier. You know, everybody saying that they're a good team. They're owing four against the SEC. So just just showed you that it's a it's a tough schedule, it's a it's it's really remarkable. 00:08:19 Speaker 4: I think what he's done. 00:08:20 Speaker 5: The last bracketology has thirteen SEC teams already in in one on the bubble, so potentially fourteen. 00:08:26 Speaker 2: Fourteen out of sixteen teams. That's insane, it really is. So people like to point to the Big East in eighty five when they had three teams make the final four. 00:08:36 Speaker 7: Who was it? 00:08:36 Speaker 2: Georgetown, Saint John's and somebody. 00:08:40 Speaker 5: I wasn't born yet, so that's gonna have to be. They played at Ropperena. What happened? But I can't name all the teams. 00:08:45 Speaker 2: It was Villanova or Georgetown John Yes, and they played at Ropperina. Everybody pointed that was the toughest conference ever. This one I think may surpass it. This has just been unbelievable. 00:08:55 Speaker 5: I do think moving forward from this year, Pope will have to and again maybe you didn't what this time, but a little more priority on some guys that can defend. I know Butler and Amara Williams were two that he thought he'd have. Butler being out right now I hurt them and just you know, he's not gonna make any staff changes, but someone needs to go all in on defense. A defensive minded guy, Mark Fox is over there. I know Georgia wasn't great when he was there, but they were considered a defensive team. I think he had him like top forty or fifty several of his years. So I know Pope loves his offense, but someone next season, players and philosophy needs to be a little more focused on the defense. 00:09:30 Speaker 2: Well it's crazy, Shannon is. Like you mentioned Amari Williams, Lamont Butler, and I'll I'll take it allway. They were the conference defensive players of the year, and yet our other guys Jackson, Kobe, Ansley Carr will never make an offense all defensive team. That's what's kind of crazy about it. 00:09:49 Speaker 5: And he might just need some athletes. I don't even get a football player, someone that will see a loose ball and run through somebody to go get it. They're missing that. 00:09:56 Speaker 2: Too, Well, they better get it. 00:09:58 Speaker 5: They need a lance where to just come in and say do body in people? 00:10:01 Speaker 2: Well, who is they don't have a guy like right now? 00:10:03 Speaker 5: They need an enforcer. 00:10:04 Speaker 2: Amari would be the only one. Yeah, And I don't think he's going to do that. He's got to get start getting more minutes. I mean, we're here, we are, We're in February. He doesn't need to just play twenty two to twenty three minutes. He's he's in condition of he needs to play thirty minutes a game. 00:10:16 Speaker 5: Yeah, the drop off is just so big there. I know Garrison's flash some things, He's hit some threes. He'll be here long term and we'll turn into something good. But Amari is just much farther along than him. Right now. 00:10:26 Speaker 2: I want to tell you about the UK Federal Credit Union, the Official Credit Union of the University of Kentucky. UK Federal Credit Union, the official credit Union the University of Kentucky. They wrote that twice they've got a back to back on the script. 00:10:35 Speaker 6: The copy is hot today, shoving the University of Kentucky since nineteen thirty seven and supporting the educational community from student to graduate, employees and beyond. 00:10:44 Speaker 2: UKFCU is here for you, Here for life. Eltibody required fil insured by the NCUA. Don't forget Friday where Kentucky branded out at the Mall. But we've had some great shows at Kentucky Branded. The dude that Polly Shore showed up one day like he just got out out of a dumpster, woke up from a dumpster. Today. The the OVW guys had a big fight in the middle of our show there one time at Kentucky Brandon. 00:11:17 Speaker 5: Just last time. I think it was our best crowd we've ever had. It was patching the monster crowd before Big Blue Mattins. 00:11:23 Speaker 2: I think the the young gal who knocked over all the glasses, Anah said thank you for finally acknowledging that you've been trying to say that I was the one that broke the glass. 00:11:32 Speaker 4: You just admitted it. 00:11:33 Speaker 2: I think it was Shannon. Now he's just a glasses that broke the glasses. So yeah, the Shannon don't talk about So coming out Kentucky Branded on Friday. We'll be out there. It's out by the ma all right, Well, take a break, come back, go back to the phone lines eight five nine two A two to eight seven. Ask anything Thursday, Ryan Drew and Shannon we'll be right back on Kentucky's Sports Radio. All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and Shannon. We gave our hot takes in the first hour of this basketball season, so if it happens, we can replay the audio and like people think we're really, really smart. Here's a couple more on the avision glass text machine. My hot take is that Kentucky will win out the rest of the regular season. WHOA, Okay, that's a good one. 00:12:11 Speaker 6: That's that would have seven and two to close out but went out. 00:12:17 Speaker 2: How about this one. If Kentucky does not see Arkansas in the tournament or lose to them, he thinks cal retires because they'll never have the chance to lose to us ever again. Hal retires after this season just because he beat his No. Here's one. I think a Mario Williams is about to go off. He again, he's he just got a triple double about to so uh eight two two eighty seven. And our friend Andy said he thinks Kobe Bray is going to have a game with eight threes. 00:12:46 Speaker 5: I would like that. 00:12:46 Speaker 2: I would like that very much. That's that gonna be a win. 00:12:48 Speaker 5: I don't think cow will be at Arkansas too long. I never thought that. But I don't think he's petty enough to just retire because he's. 00:12:53 Speaker 2: One to ou one and done. 00:12:54 Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not that much of an emphasis on that game. 00:12:57 Speaker 2: So Billy, our Sports is walking around. Billy, do you have a hot take to add to this? 00:13:00 Speaker 8: Yeah, what's up, guys. It has to do with my funky rooster brethren, Travis Perry. I think there's one game this year that Travis really matters. 00:13:10 Speaker 2: Like. 00:13:10 Speaker 8: I don't know if it's ten fifteen points, if it's six seven assists, there's one game coming up where Travis Perry really makes a difference in a game. 00:13:17 Speaker 5: I like that he looks he looks good against Ole Miss. I even said that's part of the problem, that Travis Perry looks like the best player right now. 00:13:25 Speaker 2: His shooting. He's definitely got the confidence back. But he still made a couple bad turnovers he did. You know, that's the thing. You can get some good minutes out of him because way he's shooting the basketball now. But he made it. Still made a couple bad turnovers. 00:13:37 Speaker 5: He did. But he hit his open three, he got a couple rebounds, had the team's only block shot. I mean, you tell me you're getting that out of Travis Perry. I'll take it all right. Eight five nine two two two eighty seven. Who he got Shannon's Sam, Sam, go ahead, Sam. 00:13:51 Speaker 3: Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. I was having conversation with a buddy yesterday that I'm excited for the TBT to come back around, and know I'm not getting up on this regular season, but I'm excited for the TVT to come back, and I'm interested to see. I guess from the cal era, what kind of players would you like to see on the TVT that maybe weren't on it last year. I know Willias said he's coming back. My take was Daran Lamb, so I'm sure Drew would like that, but I'm interested to see what you guys think. 00:14:20 Speaker 2: All right, appreciate Sam, Drew, he nailed your two favorites, Willy and Deron. That's what he wants on the TVT team. 00:14:25 Speaker 5: Well, don't forget my other favorite, DeMarcus. Yes, you know, he's just floating around whatever international team wants him right now. He's just bouncing contracts, contracts. He's still out there playing. You bring Wall and Cousins back on that TVT team and they might fill Raperina. 00:14:38 Speaker 2: Can you imagine? And that's not a crazy thought that that could happen. 00:14:42 Speaker 5: Now while still in good shape, he was trying to make an NBA comeback not too long ago. 00:14:47 Speaker 2: And the guys that were on the team last year, they enjoyed it so much they're gonna tell everybody, hey man, this is a lot of fun. We played good basketball and crowds were great. That could entice something like Wall our cousins don't want to play next year because Bledsoe was on that team. Letzel's obviously was here with the. 00:15:00 Speaker 5: That's so you're removed from playing for the Clippers like twenty minutes a game went and played for that team. With the problem with the cal era is so many of the good ones and the favorites are still in the NBA and they're not gonna Yeah, Devin Booker is not gonna spend his summer in Lexington playing for TVT. So you got to go pretty far back. But it's been fifteen sixteen years for some of those guys. So then it gets to the point, whell, how many of the ones that are in the NBA are still in shape? But I Wall and Cousins and Lamb headlined that list for me. 00:15:27 Speaker 2: Are there any recent guys that are not in the NBA that you'd like to see play on the TBT team. They like to get some young guys. 00:15:35 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd like to have Nate back. He was a lot of fun last year. I didn't realize how much Nate hayded Louisville till I think he broke both rists just so he could keep his l's down the whole time he was in that city. I enjoyed him. I don't know, I really the three I named were the ones on one. I like the ones they had. 00:15:52 Speaker 7: I mean I too. 00:15:53 Speaker 5: You know you can't have thirty people. Let's just run it back at Wall Cousins, Lamb Marcus tig he was supposed to play last year and ended up playing the Big Three instead with Briscoe and his brother. Maybe he'll be considered TVT this time. 00:16:05 Speaker 2: Eight two two eight seven. Who's next? 00:16:07 Speaker 6: Inn? 00:16:07 Speaker 4: Gary in Orlando? 00:16:09 Speaker 2: Gary in Orlando, How are you? Gary? 00:16:13 Speaker 7: I'm doing great. 00:16:14 Speaker 9: I'll I'll try to do it better than I did last week. I think last week. I don't know what, but I guess it was one of them deals where I was on my pills. I took my pills out of sequence or something. But anyway, here's my take on it. I'm just gonna ask that everybody relax. We don't have a coaching problem right now. We have a personnel problem and uh one thing I like that he's doing. And it's been a rough stretch, but a lot of these guys six through ten are getting some playing time. And we've been in the middle of the season where we hit the wall. We had some guys get hurt. And I'm hoping that when the SEC tournament comes around, everybody's well and then we get to the Big Dance. And I think when we get to the Big Dance, we're not gonna play anybody in the first or second round. 00:17:04 Speaker 10: That could compete in the SEC. 00:17:06 Speaker 9: So that could maybe put us into the you know how far we need to take it this first year to keep everybody smiling again. So I'll ask your take on that. And Drew, I'm thinking about changing my name for Jim. I messed up last week. Is Gary in Orlando, and I know you like calling me Jim, so oh yeah, thinking about changing it all right. 00:17:28 Speaker 5: App Gary's never gonna let me live that down. We were at like this forever a go, and I don't know why I called him Jim. His name is Gary Orlando. Everybody knows Gary and Orlando and called him Jim. For some reason, he hadn't forgotten it. 00:17:39 Speaker 2: I still have people that will reach out to me when Kentucky's playing in Florida or whatever. They like, Hey, where's that place that that guy always says they go watch the games? I just send him Gary Orlando's numbers to hear contact Gary case. I think they moved it used to be to BW three. Now they've moved it, I think somewhere. But there's still people that gather down there to watch the Kentucky because of Gary puts together. 00:17:57 Speaker 5: Yeah, drive some long distances to go meet him too. They have a great group. I think it's together watch all the games. Good to hear from you, Jim. 00:18:03 Speaker 2: Who's next, Shannon Brandon? Brandon, go ahead, Brandon. 00:18:07 Speaker 11: Hey, guys, big fan of the show. My hot take, Billy Lark kind of almost throw my thunder. I think pre Perry will probably have at least a double digit scoring, maybe ten points or so before the season's over. And I know you all already done the Super Bowl picks, but why didn't Matt Jones pick the Brown? 00:18:29 Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you very much, Barry. 00:18:31 Speaker 5: You actually Matt just had a hot take. 00:18:34 Speaker 2: Ah I bet he did. Bet he's had a lot of hot takes today. 00:18:38 Speaker 4: Who's next, Shannon, Jojoe, Jojoe, Go ahead. 00:18:41 Speaker 12: Jojoe, Yeah, first time, long time. 00:18:44 Speaker 2: I appreciate your folks. 00:18:47 Speaker 12: Yeah, this is what I kind of thanks wrong with our offense this year. When Mark Foult was a b why you his big man kind of like Mariy Williams is doing always kind of distribute to the ball at top of the key. But now years past their big man could shoot the three pointer. Well, Mariy Williams can't shoot the three pointers or don't, and that leaves as the guy defended him, which is a big guy in the paint that can pick up any kind of cutter that comes in. So I just feel like that Mariy Williams, which I really love, could shoot the three pointers, it would open up the offense a lot more. And that's all I got to say. 00:19:41 Speaker 2: All right, thank you. You know they do Amari kind of initiates the offense. It's kind of been that way all year. And at least he's gotten away from trying to from the top of the key back somebody down and will lose the handle the ball or somebody' stealing from him. It got him quit doing that. But I mean, the dude had ten eleven Assistan the other night. He can still He's one of the best passing big men in again the game right now. 00:20:01 Speaker 5: Yeah, until the Collers point. Pope did have a more of a shooter at center last year that still ran that high point, high post offense. He might go back to that moving forward. I don't know. I almost wonder if he knew jumping up in a level of competition like I gotta get some defense, because Mario was one of the first guys he went out and got three time Player of the Year, so he sacrificed a better defender, said an outside shooter, because they had that Khalifa guy last year who couldn't guard much but would step out make a couple threes game for him. 00:20:28 Speaker 2: I liked what Pope said a couple weeks ago that Amari is learning how to play in the SEC. When he was playing at Drexel, you know, he could. He was the biggest guy on the field on the court, so he would get called for fouls just if he was breathing on somebody. Well, now he can go bang and knock people around and get away with it and not get a foul called on him. He's learned how to play that way. 00:20:46 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:20:47 Speaker 5: I said this yesterday. It's almost like in the last two games, even though they're both losses, at least to Mari, I feel like he looked around. It's like, wait a minute, I am the biggest, strongest guy out here, and he's starting to use that to his advantage more Earlier at s play, it's almost like you want to wake him up, like, you know, you've got twenty pounds of muscle on this guy. Why are you bullying? 00:21:05 Speaker 7: Take it? 00:21:06 Speaker 5: Yeah, dunk it. 00:21:08 Speaker 12: Uh. 00:21:08 Speaker 2: The Brandon Garrison, at least he's not shy about shooting the three when he's out there. To get to back to the caller's point about the big man shooting the three, Brandon won't. He'll crank one up for you. 00:21:19 Speaker 5: He missed his one trit ole miss, but before that he had a pretty good run. Well we used to do the no no, no, no no. But then he made three out of four for a stretch. So he's got it in him. 00:21:29 Speaker 10: Uh. 00:21:29 Speaker 5: Pulling up his stats now, he's missed his last three over the last four games. But I'd say looking forward long term. What the caller's saying, Garrison will stretch him more than Williams. 00:21:37 Speaker 2: Will Who's next, Shannon, Brian, Brian, go ahead, Brian. 00:21:43 Speaker 11: Hey, guys, how was going? 00:21:44 Speaker 2: How you doing. 00:21:46 Speaker 7: Good? Good? 00:21:47 Speaker 12: Hey? 00:21:47 Speaker 7: Quick question for you. 00:21:49 Speaker 10: Would you guys know, by chance what the over under would be if you have a center have a double double and you lose. 00:21:59 Speaker 2: I would I would not know that if your center and your team gets a double double but you lose the game, I'm sorry. 00:22:06 Speaker 10: A triple double like William's head. 00:22:09 Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that's that'd be a see high. Yeah, those those would be some long odds. That's a slim chance of that, and they somehow managed to pull. 00:22:15 Speaker 2: It Offciate appreciates the phone call. I mean, that's gonna get lost in the fact that Kentucky lost at Ole Miss What Amari Williams was able to do get a triple double. 00:22:23 Speaker 5: That was really the only thing keeping me entertained. I know they were Kentucky was better in the second half, but none of us thought they'd come back and win, so down the final stretch, I'm just yelling for him to get that last assist. Then he had hit away on a back door with like fifty seconds left to get it. So uh, even though the game sucked overall, at least had a little fun watching Amary, you know, become the fourth ever to do that. 00:22:43 Speaker 2: You could tell in the TV broadcast Jimmy Didykes got excited as soon as he hit it. He's like, is that an assist? Is that one they're gonna count? 00:22:49 Speaker 12: That? 00:22:49 Speaker 2: That's true? You know, you could tell he was getting excited just to witness it yet, something you just don't see all the time, especially at the college level. 00:22:54 Speaker 5: Yeah, right before that, Amaro had passed it to Way for an open three and he missed it and started thinking, Oh, it's not gonna happen. Then he out of in that last minute. 00:23:01 Speaker 2: All right, le, we're gonna tell you about serf Pro Shannon. You know this is the week that he and I can't be friends. Though Tucky plays South Carolina, he and I we don't talk to you. We don't talk that week. 00:23:37 Speaker 5: How's your jaw feeling this week with the game Cocks? 00:23:39 Speaker 11: All? 00:23:39 Speaker 2: Thanks for bringing that up. Appreciate that. I really thought I was gonna have lingering effects for that, but I think it just it wasn't displaced. It was just a crack, a hairline fracture and it did healed up. 00:23:48 Speaker 5: So it's at iron jaw, you know what it is? 00:23:51 Speaker 2: Yeah, sure right. 00:23:52 Speaker 5: I'm actually worried about that guy's hand. 00:23:54 Speaker 2: So probably he was still in a cast. 00:23:56 Speaker 6: So what if Darius Rucker Ryan came to you and said, you know what, you can come why the Kentucky South Carolina game with me, But you got to put on a South Carolina jersey and pull for the Game Cocks. Oh, but you get to hang out with Darius Rutger for like two and a half hours, What do you hurt? Come on, be honest, we know you're putting on that maroon or whatever shade of red that is garn it, garn it, garn it I and you are you know you're doing it right? 00:24:24 Speaker 4: Come on? 00:24:24 Speaker 2: I would probably do it and just have a Kentucky shirt under the South Carolina show. 00:24:28 Speaker 6: No, no, no, what if he said no, we're gonna like if we're gonna, he wouldn't know, he wouldn't know. 00:24:32 Speaker 4: We're gonna inspect you. 00:24:33 Speaker 2: We're gonna look at my UK socks and boxer shorts on so eight five nine two two eight seven. Uh, excuse me, there's a big game coming up on Sunday. Well, since we do a radio show, we can't call it what it's called, right, Shannon? Is that rider? Is that just an advertisement? 00:24:50 Speaker 8: No? 00:24:50 Speaker 4: I think we we say it's the super Bowl. 00:24:52 Speaker 2: Well okay, I think when you do a commercial you can't call it the super Bowl. 00:24:55 Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't. Like we couldn't advertise kass Bar saying we have the super Bowl one. But in co you can say. 00:25:00 Speaker 6: I mean in the Draft Kings copy here it says this ain't no little itty bitty teeny tiny bowl. 00:25:05 Speaker 4: It's a super Bowl. 00:25:07 Speaker 2: So maybe they changed the rules. For a long time, you couldn't say it. I say it on an ad, Well. 00:25:13 Speaker 6: It says it right here. We've been saying it on ads for the last two weeks. But I don't want it the copy, so you tell me. 00:25:18 Speaker 2: So, I think the chief should watch still a point and a half favorite over the Eagles. 00:25:22 Speaker 5: Let me pull it up on the old DraftKings app. I think so it is. I'm still I haven't locked all the way in on doing my picks. I'm gonna have an insane amount of prop bets. I get it. 00:25:30 Speaker 2: That makes it fun. 00:25:31 Speaker 5: I make like a spreadsheet and print that out, have it in front of me. I'll have thirty bets on this. Still one and a half, Still one and a half Chiefs over the Eagles. Ye see, my thought process was, this is old hat for the Chiefs. They've been this woud be the third year an old They could they win it, they could do a three peat. But the Eagles the last time they were there two years ago, they lost. So they've been. 00:25:49 Speaker 2: Chomping at the bit, fighting mad, hungry to get back. So that's why I'm gonna think I'm a bet. 00:25:53 Speaker 5: On the Eagles for this in this game, leaning Eagles, Leaning Eagles. I see a lot of people that like the Eagles also do Saquon touchdowns. I haven't committed to Eagles or Chiefs yet, but if I were doing Eagles, I would also consider Saquon two touchdowns because they're gonna beat the Chiefs. He's gonna have to have a huge game. 00:26:08 Speaker 2: DraftKings did have a prop bet this week, thirty five. It was like a three hundred super boost, three hundred percent super boost Saquon thirty five yards in the first quarter. I took it. 00:26:20 Speaker 11: Wow. 00:26:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, I took that thirty five yards in the first quarter. I think they did that like on Monday or Tuesday, try to get people sucked in to start betting on the Super Bowl and things. 00:26:28 Speaker 5: My Tennessee Titans parlays fifteen to one DeAndre Hopkins and AJ Brown to score touch. 00:26:33 Speaker 2: You know that's probably gonna happen. 00:26:34 Speaker 5: The only bet I've made so far. 00:26:35 Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, the reason I want to talk about Super Bowl there is a Lexington connection. 00:26:40 Speaker 5: Oh yeah. 00:26:41 Speaker 2: The backup quarterback for the Chiefs is Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz married a Lexington lady, Madison Oberg from Dunbar High School, got engaged at the castle. Yeah, there might be some other people that got engaged at the castle. 00:26:55 Speaker 5: He copied off me. He did copy off you, even though his was first. I'm taking I did that first. 00:27:02 Speaker 2: Well. Carson Wentz spends a lot of time in Lexington during the off season with his wife's family. Hunts. They hunt. I think it's out in Woodford County. They gotta go out hunting out there, they like. He likes to. He's a big outdoors guy. Uh. He worked out at Woodford County High School with Dane and Josiah and a couple of other kids or the local kids around here during the off season last year. So there there is a Lexington connection that if you're pulling for, if you're looking for somebody to pull forward, be Carson Wentz and the Chiefs. 00:27:27 Speaker 5: So you're going against the Lexington connection by. 00:27:31 Speaker 2: Well, you know what. Carson Wentz was one time quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was uh huh, yeah, I just thought about that. 00:27:37 Speaker 4: Forget you got Darien Kinnard off the Eagles as well. 00:27:40 Speaker 5: Yeah, he went from Chiefs to Eagles. 00:27:42 Speaker 2: I forgot it, totally forgot about him. Yeah. So there's a UK connection and a Lexington connection on Super Bowl. So, uh, if there's a if there's one go to pick, you think you're gonna make a bet if you would recommend, what would it be? 00:27:57 Speaker 5: Uh? I've been looking at Mahomes rushing yards because in big games in the playoffs, he takes off a little more than he normally does. You could get it's in the low thirties. I'm trying to pull it up now. I lean that direction Mahomes running rushing, Shannon, what about you? 00:28:13 Speaker 4: Whatever? 00:28:14 Speaker 6: The over under on touchdowns for Barkley probably take the over. I don't know what it is right now on DraftKings. I'd have to look it up. 00:28:20 Speaker 2: But here's mine shortest touchdown run over unders one and a half. The Eagles, they get down there, they're doing the tush push push, tush push let under one and a half. I think under one and a half is a great bet because of the tush push. 00:28:36 Speaker 5: And Saquan has been stopped on the one a lot this year too. I think you can go four touchdowns. He's giving them off to the toush push. The the saquon two touchdowns is three to one. 00:28:44 Speaker 2: Three to one. 00:28:45 Speaker 5: Answer your question Shannon. 00:28:46 Speaker 4: Okay, there we go. 00:28:47 Speaker 5: It's not really worth betting on Saquan to get one. That's the odds or crap on. 00:28:51 Speaker 4: That it's two. 00:28:51 Speaker 6: So if it's two plus, I feel good about that he might get that in the first half. 00:28:55 Speaker 5: There's also, uh, I don't think this is on our friends at DraftKings, but just for entertainment purposes, I saw online they set the Taylor Swift TV appearances at eleven and a half. 00:29:05 Speaker 6: Oh my, you know, like like when they do the College Football National Championship on ESPN, if they have like different various cameras and stuff, you know, like on different channels, like on ESPNU. If they just had a channel that only showed Taylor Swift, that might pull better ratings than the game itself. 00:29:24 Speaker 2: You may be right. 00:29:25 Speaker 4: I'm just saying, all the Taylor Swift fans all this watching that. 00:29:28 Speaker 2: Yeah, just watch her all game long. 00:29:31 Speaker 5: She's also an Eagles fan. We've got a lot of these these people with connections each side. She's Eagles fan. Oh, huge Eagles fan. Really, she knew Andy Reid when he was the coach of the Eagles. 00:29:40 Speaker 2: Wow, So there you go. 00:29:43 Speaker 5: Darien Knard, Carson Wentz Taylor Swift, Eagle, Drama. 00:29:46 Speaker 2: Fly Eagles fly eight five nine two eighth two two eighty seven. Who you got, Shannon, Let's go to Ed, go ahead, Ed. 00:29:53 Speaker 10: Hey guys got a comment? Two questions? Comment is my biggest fear has materialized because I was afraid of long term injuries? And what is the latest on Lamont? And are the SEC style of play brace russ and physico? How's that going to work in the NCAA tournament. You think the referees are going to call a more tight game, which would like really burk SEC teams. Do you think they're going to let him play? 00:30:28 Speaker 2: Thank you all right, appreciate it, Ed. That comes up every year they go to the NCAA tournament and they get some officials from the Mountain West Conference or something and whatever that aren't used to the physicality of an SEC team. How they play. 00:30:39 Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know what to expect, and I haven't been able to watch many of the other SEC games this year. 00:30:43 Speaker 7: I know it. 00:30:44 Speaker 5: Tuesday night, Oh Miss was at Chris Beard Defense. Get up in your grill. They're getting away with a lot of arm bars. That was really set in Kentucky back. That's a big part of the reason why Kentucky couldn't get in this offense. 00:30:53 Speaker 2: Well, so many teams in the SEC are playing that way. Mississippi State, Don't miss Auburn, Alabama, they all all play that way. And that's what's authering Kentucky. 00:31:00 Speaker 5: A lot of times, Texas A and M say's problem because of Texas A and M going to lexing and playing football. That's when Butler injured. Is everything in that game true? So this this funk we can blame on Buzz Williams style of basketball. He brought to lexing because that's what did Butler in. 00:31:14 Speaker 2: So he ed was asking for a Butler update. You know, we talked about it in the first hour. There's really nothing official. Billy had a little little scuttle but he thought maybe next week, even if he just plays a couple of minutes, just getting back on the floor, I think will be a lift. 00:31:29 Speaker 5: Yeah, I have Pope's quote from last night, so just it's not our opinion, just straight from the sources, all right, He says, I don't know right now. We have to figure this out with the guys we have. That's the job. We have to figure this out with the guys we have, He said, Butler is making progress. 00:31:44 Speaker 2: Well, I think that showed when he was at least in. 00:31:46 Speaker 5: The it's a complicated situation, the. 00:31:48 Speaker 2: Pregame shoot around when he's running a little bit trying to get his conditioning back. So I think that's, uh, he'll be real. I think he'll be there for March. Like I said, Matt is point pointing at the game on the February twenty second Alabama game, So we'll look at that. Who's next, Shannon, free Bird? Free bird? Go ahead, free bird? 00:32:04 Speaker 7: Hey, guys, has everybody doing first of all prayers up for Matt? And Uh, I'll be listening to the show on the road, And I know, does Matt like like classic country music? 00:32:15 Speaker 11: Do you know of Oh? 00:32:17 Speaker 2: He likes the how the old stuff seventies, yeah, even up up to the nineties. Let it like any of the news. 00:32:24 Speaker 7: You remember John Conley, don't you from Versailles? Oh yeah, I'm on the backside of forty very good. 00:32:34 Speaker 2: Free Bird. There we go, set it up perfectly, all right, appreciate free bird eight five nine two two eight seven. Who's next, Shannon? 00:32:41 Speaker 4: Mickey? 00:32:41 Speaker 2: Mickey, go ahead, Mickey, Hey, guys. 00:32:44 Speaker 13: I saw something at the end of the game the other night. I want to see if anybody else saw it. Jimmy Dikes was seated right near the end of the table, right right by Coach Pope, and of course he was talking about Williams close to the triple double, and Ole Miss was shooting some free throws and Coach Pope called a guy over and talked to him about something, and we get the ball, bring it down our end of the court. They threw it over to Williams immediately and somebody cut for the basket. He threw it to them and there was the final assist. I have to think that Pope knew that and he called that play for Williams just so he could get that last assist. If so, I think that's a pretty good move on his part that appreciate. 00:33:34 Speaker 2: The phone call. It's possible, That's very highly possible. I can see Mark Pope doing that and just wanted to give Amrio a chance to get that triple double. 00:33:41 Speaker 5: Yeah, and I agree with it. It looked perfect, and it was with fifty seconds left in the game. 00:33:45 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:33:46 Speaker 5: I didn't realize that part about Pope had got in a whisper, but I knew it was into Mari's brain because he had been looking for a shooter that last minute. 00:33:52 Speaker 2: Or yeah, well, if you remember when Isaiah Briscoe got his triple double, Derek Willis kind of gave up so Isaiah could get the last rebound he needed. Yeah, so they even the players knew about it at that time. 00:34:05 Speaker 5: He uh, he intentionally missed a free throw, didn't he? 00:34:08 Speaker 2: Is that what it was? Yeah, that's right, that's what it was. 00:34:12 Speaker 5: Teammate of the Year by Derek Willis. 00:34:14 Speaker 2: So even the teammates knew that he was closing in on it. So you gotta wonder if I'm sure the coaching staff probably somebody did, probably tell him, hey, he needs one more assists for a triple double. 00:34:22 Speaker 11: Yeah. 00:34:23 Speaker 5: Sometimes you hear these players after they break a record or something like, oh, I had no idea, but I bet in most cases it gets relayed to them or they look up and notice it. I don't know, I'm not out there, but I feel like like a like a Jody Meek's game. I believe he said he didn't even know how close he was. It's I think coaches at that point, if you're looking for something like a triple double or a truly huge milestone. There's gotta be a little whispering going on, like see what he's doing over here, Let's try to get that, get that done. 00:34:49 Speaker 2: The coaching staffs monitor absolutely everything on the bench, I mean everything, minutes played, fouls, timeout, I mean, so you know they're monitoring that. They knew that it probably passed it along. 00:34:59 Speaker 5: And something like a triple. Well, it's worth it's worth going after all. 00:35:02 Speaker 2: Right, we'll take our final break, come back our final segment eight five nine two a two two eighty seven. If you want to call we got to ask anything Thursday. Appreciate free bird mentioning Matt keeping his thoughts and prayers. Got a big day today of these kleonoscopy later today. So but you know, promoting it, in fact, talking about it, bringing it up should encourage all of us to get that done as well. 00:35:20 Speaker 5: So we're gonna call in I think, but it just got dumped. 00:35:25 Speaker 2: Eight five nine two two two seven. Will be right back, all right, Welcome back. Final segment Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon as Matt is off today for his kleen oscoby this afternoon. If you go to Twitter or x whatever you call it, Drew has put out the video of Derek Willis on purpose missing the free throw to the side brisco was on so Brisco can get the rebound. It's it's brilliant, it's genius. 00:35:50 Speaker 5: It's even better than I remembered to see him flick his wrist in his shooting motion to spin it, put a little English on it to the left, and it ricochets out towards Brisco, who catches It's here, there's a triple double. And then I found the quote after the game Brisco said Derek looked at him and said, you need one more rebound, and he's the day he'said I got you. 00:36:08 Speaker 2: Well, you can tell it when he's at the free throw line and bounce. He kind of gives a little side eye to Brisco just to make sure he get, you know, size it up. What do I need to do here? And he shoots the free throw and it's perfect, hits on the little corner the elbow and kicks out right where Briscoe can get his tenth rebounds. 00:36:21 Speaker 5: Another thing I noticed is Kentucky's up on Ole miss ninety four to sixty nine in Oxford, which is why he was able to do that. That that looks like a happier trip to to Mississippi. 00:36:30 Speaker 2: There. It's crazy that the triple double the last two we've got are both men in Oxford, Mississippi. Dan Issel, That's what his scoring record was in Oxford, Mississippi, somebody pointed out to me this week. So a lot of a lot of historic things happen down there. 00:36:43 Speaker 5: When you get back to having fun there, you have fun that taste it with our mouth from Tuesday. 00:36:46 Speaker 2: All right, eight five nine two two eight seven. Squeeze a couple more on before we get out of here. So who we got chanted logan, logan, go ahead, logan. 00:36:55 Speaker 14: Hey guys, Well, I hope Matt does well. Hopefully everything came out okay. But first off, my hot take, regardless of where they end up this season, I think Kentucky makes the SEC Tournament final. May get dropped by twenty five in that game, but I think they'll make it. Secondly, a few years ago, I called in talking about how I taught my infant son how to clap by mimic while I was watching football games, and you guys kind of went on and talked about your earliest childhood memories. Well, ever since then, I've been looking for ways that I can bring him into my kind of game day for UK and just get him acclimated to sports. I noticed a trend that I've kept going and after the results of Tuesday, Kentucky basketball and football is fifty four and one. When my son takes a nap during any point of a Kentucky game. 00:37:55 Speaker 2: Well, you just made it possible. 00:38:01 Speaker 14: Yeah. So I'm obviously gonna have to sit down with him, maybe by by a clipboard to make an example, but uh, we'll have him. We'll have him locked. 00:38:09 Speaker 11: Up and ready for the next one. 00:38:11 Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Yeah, if it works, you do it, Drew, especially going to March Madness. You want to do everything you can to help. 00:38:18 Speaker 5: Sounds like a new tradition forming of him giving his kid a malotone and a tip off one every game. Get that happens so we can win. I don't have a problem with that kid's melitone a little absolutely. 00:38:28 Speaker 12: Uh. 00:38:28 Speaker 2: Any update on Nate Ament am amnt ament. 00:38:33 Speaker 5: Now just still on track to visit I mean, Louisvill's in the mix. I got some competitors in there, but I don't I don't know anything as far as where Kentucky stands. They're not in the lead, but they're in the hunt and getting on campus will be huge. 00:38:45 Speaker 2: And he's the last top ten guy that's not committed yet, is that right? 00:38:48 Speaker 14: Yeah? 00:38:48 Speaker 5: And if he gets him, that's a talent, that's a big time. I mean he's fourth, but this is a year at aj Devon, soa that's number one. He'd be number one any year. I mean, that's that's a generational guy. So uh in in some years, who knows, maybe Nate would be the number one player overall. Pope could shut up a lot of people on recruiting if you could get him. 00:39:06 Speaker 2: I did see where Jasper Johnson was named the Iverson what do they call it? The Iverson Classic Iverson All Star Game. 00:39:12 Speaker 5: We didn't mention it, but he looked like he had a GIR. I wouldn't able to go but the Woodford County Reunion on Sunday where he brought Overtime Elite. 00:39:18 Speaker 12: There. 00:39:18 Speaker 5: I saw the highlights Jack Zach and the crew where there read their stories. Looked like a fun time out there at the New School. 00:39:24 Speaker 2: I think he had thirty one points and last year at the game he had like thirty five points, so I think he likes playing in the Woodford County Old Gym over there. 00:39:32 Speaker 5: I'd say so, and Malachai was there to see him, Pope. Some of the players looked like a fun event after a little bit of a hangover after that Arkansas game last Sunday, But it was good seeing him back in Kentucky. 00:39:41 Speaker 2: I did want to mention before we get out Shannon and they'd announced a Bourbon and Beyond lineup, right. 00:39:45 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. Did you like the lineup? 00:39:49 Speaker 2: Are you? I heard you going over with Billy on the on the pre show. 00:39:52 Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw some of them. 00:39:53 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:39:53 Speaker 6: The headliners are Fish Noah Kahan, Stergil Simpson, who we played a lot on the show, the Lumineers, and Jack White from the The White Stripes. But really, for me, the best part of the lineups when you get further down the list, right, you get Cage, the Elephant, Goo Goo Dolls, Jim Blossom's a lot of great bands on there, Pat Benatar, Ringo Star is going to be there. 00:40:14 Speaker 4: You a fan of Ringo Ringo Star, Yeah. 00:40:16 Speaker 5: He's on like the fifth line of the tiny font on there for Ringo. 00:40:20 Speaker 4: Yeah, blind Woln. I mean, I don't know what. 00:40:23 Speaker 2: Love of those bands like from the late nineties. Yeah, I grew up listening to Marcia plays. 00:40:28 Speaker 5: My new favorite Benson Boone. 00:40:30 Speaker 2: Uh, somebody said, I know that Benson Boone song. Somebody sent it to us after we talked about him yesterday. Ah that song right, keep going. I don't know the word that song you were singing. That's kind of what he does. 00:40:48 Speaker 5: A little bit I heard it. Yeah, that sounded like Benson. This will probably be my first Bourbon Beyond. I love several of the names on the list. It is a better way down there. 00:40:57 Speaker 2: They got this year. 00:40:58 Speaker 6: I think over all the dates of it, it is September eleventh, eleven, thirteenth, and fourteenth. 00:41:04 Speaker 4: It's four straight days. 00:41:05 Speaker 2: We'll see who Kentucky's got football that weekend because it could make a huge weekend election that weekend. The onely only thing I've got on my list we didn't get to was Jackson Robinson was named on the list for the top ten small forwards. You know right now, he's our point guard, you know, he's he's really a small forward. I just think he's a guy that just has been He plays better when he's more involved with the offense, with the ball and his hands. I think he's kind of shown that. 00:41:29 Speaker 5: Yeah, offensively, he's turned it on, but his defense needs to get turned on. Also, he seems to have regress there. I don't know if it's because he's focusing more on being the point guard and running the show while Butler's been out, but he's been pretty bad in that department. But it was cool to being see him named as the finalist. 00:41:44 Speaker 11: Yeah. 00:41:45 Speaker 5: I thoughts on Doctor Jay Award. 00:41:46 Speaker 2: I think is that what it is? Called the Doctor Jay Award? So it's lokod for him? All right? Tell us about Red State. 00:41:50 Speaker 5: Oh, let me tell you about Red State. Uh yeah, Red State.
